Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
That's right, and oh my goodness, Monty, it is a
college football Saturday in full swing. I know they called
week zero, week one, or whatever this year, but it
feels a little different today.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
It feels more official.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Oh, it feels, I mean, look, where else can you
find multiple 40-point.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Blowouts and then one, oh boy, look out below. I mean,
is that not the first week of college football?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
That's how it should be. Get us all started.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
That's really how it should be. I mean, a bunch
of massacres.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
A bunch of, I mean, Georgia had a 40-point lead
at the end of the first quarter, it felt like. Respectfully.
Thanks for coming out. That's kind of how this week is.
Missouri State versus Texas A & M. I'm not expecting
too much out of the Bears. Do you know the
Missouri State was the Bears?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
I think they were the Bears.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Every time college football season starts and these blowouts start happening,
I'm like, it's got to be tough knowing you're going
to go play Michigan, knowing you're going to go play Indiana,
and that you're likely going to get your butt kicked.
It's got to be difficult. It's got to be like
a weird state of mind.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
See, I actually think it's the other way.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
You think it's the other way?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
I think it's the other way.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
I think the vast majority of these people walk in
here thinking, we're going to shock the world. We're going
to do like UMass did Rutgers in the first.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Game of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, because that happens so often.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
But I'm not saying that— I'm not saying those beliefs
are carried on very long.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
However, I think that they come in with.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Confidence and much like in the Boise state Oregon game
that we saw today, which we'll talk more in depth about,
you see how Boise state comes out. They take, and
then they take a punch from Oregon and it's like,
wait a minute, we could punch back.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
And it's like, all right, we're in for a game.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Boise state has a good team, right? Like I know
they weren't, they were super underdogs, but they're not, they're
not one of the worst teams out there.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Mind you, if that score had been.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah, no, Oregon was way better.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
If Oregon had beaten them 52 to 10, you wouldn't
have blinked.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
It's true. No, you're 100%. You're 100%.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Okay. All right.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Now, this is what did happen today. And I didn't
blink at all, but apparently America may be surprised. Because
Indiana beat North Texas by a score of 52 to.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I had to just check it ago. 52 to 16.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
The number one team in the nation. Back to back.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Kurt Cignetti's that AP coach of the year in the
last two seasons. He's only been a head coach for
two seasons, mind you. He's undefeated in winning the coach
of the year award as a head coach.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Okay? He, last year, won the national championship undefeated, right?
Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza skated through college football.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
The year prior. Remember I told you. This time, two
years ago, I said... You don't have a team. I
would think about Indiana. They just Kurt Cignetti guy. You'll
like his, you'll like the cut in his gym.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
You'll like his energy.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Just listen to his first press conference. I think you, you,
you could easily fall in love with this team, right?
Speaker 4 (03:00):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (03:01):
All they went to go do that team to losses.
I believe lost in the college football playoffs to Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Okay. You tell me.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
If Alabama or Georgia or Clemson or any of these
schools that have an established football just personality even, right?
And Kalen DeBoer, I know he's not Nick Saban, but
he was his personality from Washington. We saw him in
championship games prior to getting to Alabama. Dabo Swinney, right?
We saw him in championship games, even though they're on
(03:32):
a little bit down here. Georgia, Kirby Smart, one of
the big personnel, Lane Kiffin. You tell me another one
of these guys. who would lose one game, one game
in his last 20-some-odd that he's coached, and they wouldn't
have this team number one with a bullet.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
I don't understand why I'm sitting here, and I'm about
to sit here. Well, you know, Ohio State, look at
Ohio State. Oh, because you know what?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
They must have been the undefeated team who ran through
the Big Ten and went to the national championship. That's
why they're the presumptive number one favorite. Oh, they get
their quarterback back. Well, we just saw what Dante Moore
in Oregon did with that offense.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Oh, good luck. I just don't understand.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Okay, you can tell me they lost their leading passer,
their leading receiver, leading Russian transfer portal era, bro.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Everybody re-ups, okay?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I don't understand the disrespect, in my opinion, which is
crazy because three years ago, Indiana would have been one
of these sacrificial lambs on week one. But the disrespect
that I feel like Indiana football is getting– wake.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Up, people. It's NIL era, okay? It's wake up. Times
have changed.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
When Indiana goes and loses no less than three games
this season, it is not going to be one of those, oh, man,
can you believe this historical move? Just like last year wasn't, honestly.
History was year one. Year two was confirmation of said history.
And year three is just going to be yet more
domination of Curt Cignetti through college football. And I'm just
letting you know, everybody else is wrong to have him sixth.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
As Mr. College Football, if you don't have an answer
to why this is going the way it is, I
don't have an answer for you, Martin. It seems like
you have just laid out all the logical reasons. And
I don't have a... illogical one to give you as
to why Indiana is not coming into this season ranked
number one. I feel like you're right. There should be
(05:27):
no reason. And I'm using this word, even though it's,
I'm using it loosely a fluke season. That's, that's not
the right word, but I'm trying to say like a
lot of people I think saw Indiana and, All season,
I kept hearing from so many people here at Fox
Sports Radio who are big college football fans that they
were like, there's no way that they go undefeated. Every
single week, it would get closer and closer to the end.
(05:47):
There's no way they still stay undefeated. There's no way
they win this game. There's no way they go on.
That's what I kept hearing from a lot of big
college football fans around here. So I feel like a
lot of people just... wondered, were they really that good,
even though they were undefeated and won? Or was it
that other teams didn't deliver? Do you give the credit
to Indiana, or do you give a lack of credit
(06:10):
to the teams that let them do that? I don't know, Martin.
I'm telling you, if you don't have an explanation for me,
I don't know. get it either.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
And look, if you want to point out, I think
last year the schedule that Indiana had was laughable.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
And let's be honest, the schedule that Indiana starts the
season with this year, also laughable. I've seen that before.
You know who did it the entirety of his time
at Alabama?
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Nick Saban.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Go find Nick Saban versus Mercer and the Citadel and
South Carolina State.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Seriously. They will play Mercer in November.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
In between South Carolina and LSU, Alabama's hosting Mercer. Alabama's
hosting East Tennessee. Georgia's hosting East Tennessee. I'm sitting there
at the update. I'll see Georgia with a random 70-point
win two days before Thanksgiving because they're playing somebody else
before Georgia Tech. They do this all the time in
all these schools. I don't have the biggest issue with Indiana.
(07:05):
Scheduling Howard. I just noticed don't lose too many big
10 games, but I don't expect them to lose too
many big 10 games. Cause that's one of the, I
think that's the best coach team in the country. And
in a sport that historically has been dominated by dynamic.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Coaching, right?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Like the players, obviously they come and go in college
football in a different way than they do in the NFL, right?
Your coach is more of the guiding light of your program,
whereas in the NFL, for example, you're a Chargers fan.
Justin Herbert has been the guiding light of your program
since Justin Herbert has been the starter, for better or
for worse.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Sure.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
Right?
Speaker 4 (07:40):
But he's the constant. He's the consistent.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
And let's be honest, if Jim Harbaugh fails— Justin Herbert
will probably still be there.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Do you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Because that's just the way it goes in the NFL,
and it's different than that in college.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
And it's like with– I don't know what it is.
This guy's got all the energy.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
He came out today, started his– you see what he
did talking with Jenny Taft pregame. She's like, you know,
how do you make sure that you stay on top
of everything?
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Well, he goes, you know.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
You saw Rutgers and UMass last week. You know, you
got to get ready for these. These power six teams
are no joke. You know what I'm saying? Especially early
in the season when everybody's healthy.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Like, we're going to be ready. We're going to be
locked in.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Shout out to our girl, Jenny Taft, for being down
on that field. It felt like 150 degrees is what
they said.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Apparently, that wasn't the report.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Down there. And imagine, like, I know when you're playing,
it's like you're kind of focused. When you're not playing
and you just have to kind of walk up and
down and keep yourself focused. Shout out to our girl,
Jenny Taft. But, I mean... Kurt Cignetti alone is a
good enough reason. You've already sold me without trying to.
Is a good enough reason as to alone why Indiana
(08:47):
should be ranked higher. Just alone on Kurt Cignetti. You're 100% right.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Everybody's waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yes, that's what it feels like.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
It's not happening.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Josh Hoover started two seasons of college football very much
the same way as Fernando Mendoza, who was not just
an unknown college football player walking into Indiana.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
He was not necessarily hyped. He was.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
There was no shot he was the first overall pick
before he started playing for Curt Cignetti.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
But, however, there was tape on Mendoza. He played at Cal.
If you watched Pac-12 after dark every so often, you
would have seen him. Right now, you may not have
been super impressed, but very much.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Like if you watched TCU's first game two years ago
against Colorado, you saw Josh Hoover.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
You know what I'm saying, Josh?
Speaker 6 (09:32):
I didn't.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
You did. I didn't.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
That was a great game. I didn't.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
You did.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
It was 42.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
That was the beginning of– That was the beginning of
the three-week period that Colorado was going to win the
national championship.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Three-week period.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
That's so rude. With Shadoura Sanders and Travis Hunter. I
remember it vividly.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
They called me so many crazy things. Because I said, yo,
I don't know about this Colorado team.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Again, logical.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Again, being logical. I don't know about this Colorado team.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I think that they might have some well they look
small and they still look small did you watch that game.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Yeah no but they they pulled it off they pulled
it off it wasn't pretty.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
What to say well you know they talk about lightning
striking twice it wasn't pretty but i don't know how
it's gonna work for uh.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
It's all right.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Listen, football is definitely back. Here we are.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
Michigan.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Michigan man is fine.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
You know what? I thought things were going to be
different in the Whittingham era. Okay.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Now maybe it's the uniforms.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Is that Michigan playing? I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Highlighter yellows. Looks like Phil Knight snuck in the locker room.
He said, we're going to just, we'll do a little
Oregon swap. Surrender Cobra to Michigan fans 13 minutes into
the year.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Gotta love it. Gotta love it. I swear.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Right through the hands.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Best sport in the world.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Best sport in the world. Talking about lightning striking twice
in one place. Well, it did strike twice in one place,
and apparently we're still waiting for that game to kick
off as a result. We'll get to that coming up next.

Come to you live on the Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's Martin Weiss and Monsie Bilanios on a Fox Sports
football Saturday.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
It feels good, Monsie.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
It does feel good. Back.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
We're here.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Waiting for kickoff for Clemson LSU. It's been delayed further.
Now it's going to kick off.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
9.40 Eastern time.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
9.40 Eastern time. So a little SEC after dark.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
I would not make it. I would not make it
if I was there. Like I would try my hardest.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
And just so you know, she's not saying she'd fall asleep.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
No, no, no, no, no. I would not be able
to be like, okay, so for 90 minutes, don't drink,
hold it together so that you can be ready for kickoff.
There's no way. I would not make it.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
I would not.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Well, especially, Monsi, at a game that on underdog right
now is trending at 77% towards LSU.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
They are a hefty favorite per underdog.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
And underdogs, keep your mill and starts with your million-dollar stack.
You make your pick, survive 20 rounds, and whatever's left
is yours. Underdog, unleash your dog. Now, the dog here
in this situation would be Clemson.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
Right.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Because that would be the dog that needs to be unleashed.
And honestly, it's like America feels like See, I don't
want to go too far. Go far. Why not? Well,
because here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Earlier today on college game day, because of course Lane
Kiffin was on college game day today.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Why would he not be?
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Does he have anything going on today?
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Nothing at all.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
As I saw him prior, walking in to the stadium
with Libby Dunn and Theo Vaughn.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
And Brooks Nader also.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Okay, so one major association to LSU. I can get
with that. Theo Vaughn, for all I can tell, didn't
go to college. We're from the same area.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
You know that?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
No, I did not know that.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Yeah, we had the same area code growing up.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
985.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Brooks Nader, who is a model, is from Baton Rouge.
So there's that. I just wanted to throw that out there.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Yeah, but at least Livvy Dunn at one point donned
the purple and gold.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Yes, I agree.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
That one makes the most sense.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
That makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
Right.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
He did. How about that? I sit correct. So he
did go to college.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Oh, he went to college. That's good.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
He went to LSU.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Oh, he went to LSU.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
There you go. There you go.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
It's all making sense.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
I guess he qualifies in a notable alumni section.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
But there has just been so much attention at Louisiana
State University paid to everything besides the actual football of things,
including the saga of snip, snap, snip, snap, NFL, college, NFL, college.
Are they going to be able to let him play? Oh,
federal judge. Oh, temporary restraining order.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Oh, I don't know. This is what Lane Kiffin said
about it earlier today on ESPN. Yeah, that wasn't easy.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
As much as I feel for the players, and I
believe that you fight for what you believe in, and
I believe these kids have an opportunity to play, just
like all the other kids around the country that are
winning court cases and being put on rosters. But at
the same time, I'm the head coach of LSU, and
I had to make a decision that is for the
(15:07):
big picture of LSU and the LSU football program. with
the uncertainties of what potentially could have come by adding
them to the roster. And we couldn't get exact reasons
or exact what that would mean if we added them.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
So with that, made the decision, which is the best
interest of the team and the university.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
And we're excited to be playing a great game today
here in front.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Of these fans. And let's spot the ball. Oh, let's
spot the ball. Let's just kick it off. Let's silence
all the offseason conversations.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
When Lane's like, I feel for these kids, man. You know, basically,
if I don't sign them, somebody else will. No.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
Yeah, no.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
No, the Big Ten is already done. No, we're not
going to do it. No, we're not going to do that. No,
we're not. They're not.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Everyone has literally said no.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
It's just you.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
It's literally by yourself. I love how much he used
the word kids. Because he wants us to feel like
they're not NFL players, like they have not crossed that line.
And this is one of those situations, Martin, like it
does suck. It does suck for them because of the
decision that was done after the fact. But if you
(16:13):
can't if you can't have rules, then what is the point? Like,
I think it sucks. But no, you you definitely cross
the line and went into the NFL, became a professional
100 percent.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Well, I don't even, like, I have less of a
problem with that, honestly, than just the problem of you
left the program.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Like, that's my bigger issue. Like, whatever you went to
go do, you could have gone and been an aerospace engineer.
You're no longer playing college football, right? And so that
was my thing. And I get that eligibility came back
down the line.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Right.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
But let's be honest, if they had been, they might
have never left because they'd probably make more in college.
You're talking about a backup tight end, probably a fringe
tight end in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
He was, who probably would have, you know, make a,
probably make more. I'll put it like this.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
He's in more demand at the college football level than
he is at the professional football level.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
So you probably stand to make a little bit more
money with that. But the thing is, I understand the whole,
like this stinks for a handful of guys.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Because it does. And it is confusing.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
And it definitely is one of those things that falls into,
I don't have the biggest issue with it conceptually, but
I don't like the way it tastes.
Speaker 6 (17:26):
Right?
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Do you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (17:27):
I don't have the biggest problem with putting that on
a sandwich. But when it actually comes together, something's off.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
I have to mentally prepare for it. I'm like, okay, fine. Like,
I'm not loving it, but I guess I have to
deal with it.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I don't love it, but hey, I don't run the world, okay?
Speaker 2 (17:44):
I also am okay with the idea that they are
not able to play because you did leave the program, right?
Very much in the same way that if you were
a player who transferred from one school to to another
school and something went wrong, if you transfer from Wisconsin
to Boise State and then after a while something happens
with your Boise State acceptance, you can't just go back
(18:04):
to Wisconsin.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
It's not the way that this works.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
So that's why I'm like, I don't really, the idea
that you can just fall back into college is one
that I don't love. However, what I hate more than
any of it is the self-serving and self-aggrandizing nature of
what Lane Kiffin went with all that because it's not true.
It's not like if it's true, if that's the only
college football coach you've talked to about the matter.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Do you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
But like, sure, you can then say college football coach
feels like this. But then when you interview, I don't know,
everybody else on the subject, they're like, yeah, this is ridiculous.
We're not going to let this fly. And Lane Kiffin says, well.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
What am I supposed to do? I don't understand.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I do understand it because he's Lane Kiffin, and that's
who Lane Kiffin is and what Lane Kiffin does. But
you would think after all of the noise that came
out of the way he left Ole Miss to go
to LSU that on game day he'd be focused about
game day.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Well, no, he's focused on about Lane Kiffin. He's focused
on what people are saying about him. And you're right, Martin,
like we haven't stopped talking about him since the end
of last year's college football season because of how he
handled things with Ole Miss and LSU.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Here we are.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Lane Kiffin. trying to to make it seem like he's
over here being the savior for these kids when in
reality it's like reports are that you pushed them to
go and fight this and so right away you think
oh so you don't believe in your own lsu team
that you have at all so what was what you
(19:44):
left old miss to go take on a program that
you made me think was way better now I don't
know if you believe your own lies here. So he
goes out there because he cares about Lane Kiffin. That's
what he cares about. And that's been the entire time.
As you said, that is Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
He would not be the first coach to leave where
he was.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
At thinking I can't win there to go to LSU
and lose.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Brian Kelly left Notre Dame. You can't win in Notre Dame.
The academic standards are too high.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Oh, no.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
You can't win in Notre Dame. I got to go
down to LSU where I can get players in the family,
said Brian Kelly. Marcus Freeman comes in there and says,
no hairline, no problem. I'll just run through this thing.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Right? Am I lying?
Speaker 7 (20:37):
No.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
No, you're good. I will say that, Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Our producer, Garrett, is not happy with your comment about
the hairline.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Listen, you know what? Honestly, I'm wearing a hat because
my thing is running back, too. All right? It's not
the most positive.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
All right?
Speaker 4 (20:51):
I don't love it.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
I feel my age as I look in the mirror.
I'll tell you, I did not used to have these
widow's beaks. Like, where is it going? So, Marcus Freeman,
I'll tell you this. If I had that much money,
maybe I would do the same. However, you know, the
man's coaching football. He doesn't wear a hat on the sidelines,
so you got to respect that. You know, he said,
I got to get my dude together. He could just
go hat.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
He could, but he's not going to.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
You know?
Speaker 4 (21:13):
A lot of people just go hat these days. Whittingham's
got on a hat.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
He's also got a four-point lead on Western Michigan.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Yeah, that's not great.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Oh. No bueno. They caught the punt this time, though.
That's good.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Yeah, it didn't go through the hands.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
A step in the right direction. A step in the
right direction. No muff.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Mm-mm.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Now, I will say this.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
Uh....
Speaker 4 (21:34):
This weather delay. Now it says kick it 920 Eastern.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Okay, okay. So they moved it up a smidge.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Moving up a bit.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
A smidge. One less drink.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Has such an opportunity to be such a letdown in
Baton Rouge.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Because all of the, oh, it's us against the world. Oh,
what do you mean you won't let these guys play?
They didn't play real NFL football. It's all, I'm telling you.
This is what people, I talk to people at work.
LSU football is a bipartisan issue. That's why the governor
is speaking out about it. That's why, like, everybody in
the state is locked in, and this is just after
(22:13):
they fired the last coach, and they said, yeah, the governor,
Jeff Landry, going, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Paying $ 10 more million for a football coach that loses.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Well, they're paying more than that. And we'll see what
ends up happening. Let's go to Steve to Sager for
everything already happened. And it's currently happening in the world
of sports.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
And that opponent is Clemson tonight at 11th ranked LSU.
And yes, they're in a weather delay. Clemson was only
seven and six last year. So there's that. This is not,
I mean, Trevor Lawrence is not walking through that tunnel.
If I can just part.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
With a lot of NFL talent though.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Last year.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Which kind of proves the point. Like, it's not the real.
I mean, they were preseason top 10 last year. So,
you know, as we look at the top 25, let
me just say, first and foremost, we're all happy to
have college football back full time on Saturdays. This was
a great Saturday and that there was game after game.
Of course, there was blowout after blowout, channel after channel.
I found a couple of top 25 games that were
(23:11):
actually close. And by a couple, I mean two. At
number two ranked Oregon, coming from behind at home, the
Ducks beat Boise State 34-27. Heisman candidate, can we say
that in week one? Dante Moore had 378 yards passing
and three touchdowns. And there was a weather delay at
halftime at number 23, Houston. Cougars eventually did win at
(23:33):
home against Oregon State 33-20. As for the other games,
you got scores like this. Number one, Ohio State blitzing
Ball State 56-3. Third-ranked Georgia 63-3 over Tennessee State. At
fifth-ranked Texas, Longhorns 59-7 over Texas State. And at number six,
Indiana Hoosiers beat North Texas 52-16. Blowout wins at Alabama,
(23:57):
Penn State, Tennessee, and Iowa as well. And then there's
the Michigan game that you mentioned at home. It is
a mere 7-3, Wolverines over Western Michigan in the second quarter.
BYU at home leads Utah Tech, whoever that is, 14-0
late in the first quarter. On FS1, 12th-ranked Texas Tech
(24:17):
shutting out Abilene Christian in the final seconds before halftime,
17-0 Red Raiders. Two minutes to go until halftime at No. 8,
Texas A & M, 12-0 Aggies over Missouri State. And repeating,
and maybe it was a typo before, they're at a
weather delay at LSU and they're now saying, no, no, no,
kick at 940 Eastern Time.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
No.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
They literally just switched it back on the lower third
on ESPN.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
This is why they got rid of the bottom line.
They're making mistakes. This is the problem.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Among the games in progress outside of the ranked teams,
Colorado stayed ahead of Wyoming 21-13 late in the third quarter. Earlier,
blowout wins at Pitt, at Syracuse. Cincinnati at home beat
Boston College 34-15. BC did not score a point in
the first half of that game. Vanderbilt's lead in the
second quarter against, make that now at halftime, against Austin Peay.
(25:14):
Excuse me, second quarter. They've just refreshed on this as well.
I think the same guy is doing graphics for both
things that you and I both talked about.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
ESPN homepage college football has had a rough day today.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
It's week zero for them.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Very much so. 15-9 at half.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Vandy over Austin Peay there. Coco Gauff won her third
round match at the U.S.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Open.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Tyler Redeker in the NASCAR poll at Darlington. Baseball, the
Cubs were 6-5 winners at Miami. And among the games
in progress, bottom of the ninth, Tigers leading at Cleveland 6-0.
Back to you.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Thanks, Steve. As Bryce Underwood throws a check down into
the ground.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
$ 10 million.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
10 million. Best quarterback you can buy.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Martin, come on.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
What is this?
Speaker 3 (26:00):
20 minutes into the season?
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
That's all I need to see. That's all I need
to see.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
How long did you watch Oregon today before you were like,
I don't know?
Speaker 4 (26:14):
How long?
Speaker 6 (26:16):
Right away.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
No, Oregon looked sloppy. But then they, by the way,
you know, in the fourth quarter, they got it together.
But they just, they look sloppy. They didn't look like
ready to start.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Let me see this. Welcome back to Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
If I could try to find here on the underdog app.
what exactly Michigan is trending at because football is back
and underdog keep your million starts with a million dollar stack.
You make your picks, you survive 20 rounds and whatever's
left is yours. Underdog unleash your dog terms apply. And
this is, I would not like the dog to be unleashed.
(26:52):
I would like the dog to.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Stay exactly where it is. Not in this situation.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Can sit right there where it lies. I can't find
this score. It's too many games. College football is a liar.
We go.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Michigan right now a 20.5 point favorite on underdog.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
However, yeah, 20.5 point favorite, but it makes sense. All right,
20.5 point favorite. They're trending 96% to win. Although I
would say out of what? Eight minutes left in the
second quarter. What do you think Oregon was trending at?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Oh, not 96%.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Probably a B plus at least.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
No, that percentage was, I don't.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Know, man.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
At that point, I think it, I think it dipped
in that second quarter. I think it was a lot
closer to like 60%, 65. They didn't look, how many
penalties did they have? Nine up until literally in the
fourth quarter is when they got it together.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
It also seemed like not only did Oregon have a
lot of penalties, It was like.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Third and three.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
No, false start. Let's back that up. Third and seven. No,
we're going to make that third and 15.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Like consistently, they were all like, you know, all penalties
are not created equal.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Like you pick up a penalty after you get the
first down. Like, okay, I didn't love that, but we'll
live with it. Oh, personal foul after a taunting after
a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
You okay, buddy?
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Come over here, and I'm going to talk to you
on the sideline.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
However, you're going to start the next drive.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Right.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Okay? Like, not all penalties are created. Third down penalty
in my own territory. What are you doing? You took
it out of field goal range. Thanks a lot. Now,
there's a.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Scourge going around America, and I can't stand it, but
it's gotten to college football. I didn't watch this today
because I have things to do, but I saw the clip.
Speaker 7 (28:40):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Of Lane Kiffin and Pat McAfee talking to one another
on the highest college-rated.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Pregame show that exists, right?
Speaker 2 (28:50):
A man who's making millions of dollars to coach the
LSU football team, and who hired him as a support
of that rabid fan base. And then Pat McAfee, who
makes his own money, of course, as you know, And
has done, for better or for worse, turned into a
sports media star. And even more than that sometimes, I suppose.
(29:14):
He's at the presidential games. He's doing all types of stuff,
this Pat McAfee character is.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
But, yeah, and also, too, released an album.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Right, I think.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
No, I confirmed. Oh, okay. The album came out.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I've yet to listen to it, but I've seen enough
people talking about it. That Pat McAfee definitely made music.
And so I just wonder how people in this type
of standing in the planet— can have this opinion like
it's just invalid.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
That's why i've really appreciated our friendship and this week
your guidance with me about you know because um between
you and i we're about the two most hated people
there are He told me, hey, just focus on it.
Don't worry about the noise. A lot of times to
do great things, you're going to be hated.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
He says we're the most hated men in America.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
And proudly.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
But it's like, show me, please, the cavalcade of people
who are just abjectly.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
You know what this is? This is Internet hate.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Reading my mentions culture because he's like, you know, like
the same way.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
I don't think people call me an idiot all the time.
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Right.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Somebody tweets me and calls me an idiot. I got
paid to give my opinion. You are giving yours out
for free. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
So, you know, it is what it is, you know?
So I take that. That's what I, that's how I
land on it.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Every time I get that type of criticism from these
types of people, Lane Kiffin's paid way more than I am.
So is Pat McAfee.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
And it's like the idea that, oh my gosh, can
you believe it? Monty, nobody likes me. Nobody likes me.
The ratings disagree.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
That's not even how I took it. I took it
like he thinks he is hated the way that the
great LeBron James is hated. LeBron James is hated by
a lot of people, but it's because he's so great. Like,
there's so many people who love LeBron.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
James, right?
Speaker 3 (31:10):
So the hatred there is because of the greatness that
comes with him.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
It's like the actual true definition of hating, right?
Speaker 4 (31:19):
When you're being a hater.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
You're being a hater. With Lane Kiffin, it's like, Papi,
I don't know if anyone likes you. I don't even
know if your team likes you or if they're forced
to like you. So you saying that, it's like you
are out of touch with reality. But that's not a shocker,
as we've discussed about Lane Kiffin. He is so about himself,
but he is out of touch with how people really
(31:41):
look at you. People don't like you. It's not about
hating you. It's different. LeBron James is hated, and in
the best possible way because of how great he is.
People just genuinely don't like you.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Yeah, and you can say a lot of things about LeBron. Like,
LeBron is corny.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Sure, whatever you want to say.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
But it's like, it's LeBron damn James. LeBron's partnering with
Polymarket today. Oh, so stupid. You know the things I
can list the things I didn't need?
Speaker 6 (32:03):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
That comes pretty high on the list.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Sure, I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
I just tweeted out, why? Why? Like, why?
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Like, seriously, though, but why?
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Could you possibly?
Speaker 3 (32:12):
You don't need to do this, LeBron.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
You print money, bro. Like, you're good. You don't need to.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
You don't need to.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
You're a billionaire. Why? Anyway.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
But LeBron James is still loved so much.
Speaker 9 (32:22):
Of course.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
So much.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
And to that point, it's earned in that LeBron has
won enough on the big stage that it's garnered.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
No, I just don't like him because he's good.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
And that's literally it. I just don't like him.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
He's been around too long doing too many great things.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
He did it to my team one too many times.
Speaker 9 (32:43):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
And that is something that you hear out of fans
all over the place. Lane Kiffin. Correct me if I'm wrong,
but I believe that Ole Miss.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Last year won more playoff games than Lane.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Kiffin has ever.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
And without him, they went on winning.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Good old Pete Golden.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
I'll tell you what, I didn't know anything about Pete
Golden until he got that job. Um, and now, I mean,
I knew partially he was Saban assistant, you know, but
I mean, I knew about him. Like he wasn't like
the rockstar assistant in that way, especially because Saban was
the defense guy.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Pete Golden's the defense.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
It's kind of like you named Sean McVay's offensive coordinator, right?
Like it's a revolving door and it doesn't sometimes all
the way matter. Uh, but, And I can see where
Pete Golding interviewing for head coaching jobs wouldn't get him. Right?
When you just sit there and you hear him talk
and then you go up against some of the other
head coaches that are out there.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
He's not nearly as charismatic as some of the other guys.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
He doesn't project as well as some of the other guys.
But when I hear Pete Golding talk about football, I'm like,
you know what? I hope you kick LSU's ass, buddy. Right?
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
I hope you do. Because it just sounds like football
to me. We're the most hated men in America.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Shut up, Lane.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Pat, how do we, however will we do, what are
we going to do, count our millions and go to
hot yoga? Do you see that they did a hot
yoga today on three, walked in with Lane Kiffin at
hot yoga this morning. Curious is looking at me like
he saw it too. He's waiting for me to go
to break. Either way, everybody else in that class looked terrified. Like,
please get these cameras out of my face. It's 110
(34:20):
degrees inside. It's only 95 outside. It's August in Baton Rouge, right?
So I was like, no, please back away. And remember
the story that came out when he left Ole Miss?
The hot yoga place was not a fan that he
was there.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Right. I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Lane Kiffin started to do yoga, and he's different now.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (34:39):
And then the hot yoga place was like, yeah, I
much preferred when Lane Kiffin wasn't coming to our hot
yoga place.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
But what are you going to say? We're the only
one in Oxford. Don't let them in. Guilty or innocent?
I think Oregon is guilty today. Probably. Oregon is guilty.
Of what?
Speaker 2 (34:56):
How long should they be convicted for? We'll find out
next in Sports Court. Martin Weiss, Mons Milano, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Tell you what, you know who's guilty. Who?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Dove Kleiman for tweeting out that Colorado players are putting
their Instagram handles on the back of their jerseys like
that was new. That's been three years old. And apparently
everybody just saw it and was like, ah, front page news.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Three years ago.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Three years ago, which makes sense for the team that
it was three years ago. And like having that interesting.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Oh, that was back when you had Rick Ross on
the sidelines.
Speaker 6 (35:36):
Right.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
You had Rick Ross and Terrell Owens and just about
anybody else you could find.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
I'm surprised Barack Obama wasn't in. You know, then you
name it.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
The luminaries across black America were just descending on Colorado
to go watch the Buffaloes play.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
I don't know how many went last year.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
No, I don't either. But I think more than USC.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Well, I'll just say this. UNC, North Carolina. Colorado at
least had five or six games.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
North Carolina had one last year. And they were like, oh,
Mia Hamm, I cannot be bothered to come back.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
All right.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Let's play sports court.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
The defense is wrong.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
The sports court.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Garrett?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Your Honor? Uh-uh.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Your Honor, I knew he was waiting. Come on, Your Honor.
Speaker 9 (36:23):
Yeah, three years ago is when Dove Kleiman actually mattered
before he sold his site to someone else.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Anyhow, moving on. You two remember Ray Gunn, right?
Speaker 5 (36:33):
I do. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (36:33):
Yeah, the Australian teacher who I would say in a
weird way shocked the world with her breakdancing performance at
the Olympics. Well, she's back in the news again. She
had a documentary about herself debut on Netflix last night.
Don't know if you saw that, the Untold series. Were
you two and I and the rest of the planet
guilty or not guilty of break shaming her?
Speaker 4 (36:57):
Not guilty. These allegations are false.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
And honestly, let's bring back more shame. Your 15 minutes
ended a year ago. What is this Netflix documentary?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
That thing? We need to bring back more shame.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Yeah, absolutely not guilty.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
These allegations are false.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Can I say we're guilty if anyone is watching that?
Whoever is watching that documentary is actually guilty. But the shame,
I'm with Martin.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Bring it back.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Why is there a documentary on that? I can't.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Guilty on that.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
She's laughing all the way to the bank, guys.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Literally.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
That's all she is.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Also an interesting story in the news.
Speaker 9 (37:36):
The Spurs happened to fire their play-by-play guy this.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Week, Jacob Tobey. Don't know if you've heard this.
Speaker 9 (37:43):
He allegedly cheated on his then girlfriend with a sister
of one of the Spurs players. And that's why they
fired him. Are the Spurs guilty or not guilty of
not minding their own damn business?
Speaker 4 (38:00):
I will go Spurs. Actually, I'm going to go guilty.
Book him.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I think that's why your boy got his job back,
because I think that's probably some level of lawsuit that
possibly could come that way, because I didn't violate a rule.
I violated a rule at home, but at work, what's
that got to do with anything?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Yeah, I think he got his job back. So I'm
going to say that he definitely got his job back, right?
The Spurs are not guilty.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Your Honor, I object because it's devastating to my case.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Because in the moment, they had to look into it, right?
And I think now they fixed it. So that's why
I'm saying they're not guilty. Because in the moment, they
were like, wait a second, there's a sister involved with
a player. They had to look into it.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
I get what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
But looking into it doesn't mean you just automatically fire
or suspend the guy.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
That's what looking into it means you look into it.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
I think they wanted to make sure they wanted to
look right from the beginning and they kind of look
silly because a lot of people were against it, but
now they made it right. So yeah, not guilty. All right.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
If he slept with one of the players, would he
be guilty?
Speaker 3 (38:59):
That's a different story.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Different conversation.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
Moving on, Clemson's Dabo Sweeney, obviously in the news, he
kicks off.
Speaker 9 (39:06):
Here and we said either 40 or 60 minutes, depending
on the bottom third. He famously thinks that he knows better,
what's better for college football than the rest of the
sport does.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Just two years ago, we brought in zero transfers.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Then he only had three.
Speaker 9 (39:20):
Transfers last season when every other team in the country
was full-blown portal crazy. Well, they've gone from national title
contender to seven and six. Also ran his Davo guilty
of living in a world that's passed him by, or
is he not guilty.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
By reason of being the only one left with any
sanity in this world? I'm actually going to go not guilty.
You're letting him go again? I think it fell apart
for them nasty in a big way last year.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
We had a lot of NFL talent on that team,
and things just never seemed to be able to get
it together.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
But I do appreciate the fact that Dabo.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Is like, I had a linebacker in class, and then
Pete Golden's calling him, taking him out of biology to
come back to LSU.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Like, I'm snitching. I don't like this.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
You know, I'm going to say guilty.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Whatever they're saying he did, he did that.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Even if he had the right idea, the right mentality,
you saw what was happening around you, and he was
a little too late. Like, now he's probably like, man,
if I would have jumped sooner and just accepted the
reality of what college football was becoming, maybe they wouldn't
be in the situation they're in right now. I'm just saying.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Speaking of the situation we're in right now, at least
this Michigan defense is flying around.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Thank God. Golly. I mean, I'm telling you. You watch
stuff like this. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Let's look in the NFL, Monsi, because I fly all
the time for work, and I could not imagine an
18-hour flight and having to do.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Anything the next day, much less play a football game.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Monsi, why don't you
just take it from here? Why don't you just take
it from here?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
So you can watch your game?
Speaker 4 (40:53):
Game?
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I mean, this is technically a game. There is going
to be a winner and a loser. And the winner
right now in this first half might not be your Michigan, though.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
I honestly, at this point, I am rooting for what
happened my sophomore year in college, which was the first
year for Michigan played Western. And in the middle of
the fourth quarter, there was a tornado. And they just
canceled the rest.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Of the game.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
Stop. And did you ever finish?
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Did they ever finish the game?
Speaker 2 (41:22):
No, they literally stopped the game with like 11 minutes
left in the fourth quarter. It was like a three
score margin. It was going to, but they like, they
decided to call the game. Just call the game at
this point. Just call the game.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
No, you have to sit through.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
10 million, 10 million, 10 million dollars. 10 million, 10 million,
10 million dollars.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
You have to sit through a whole other half.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
Cancel the season.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
My goodness.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
I'm watching Western Michigan push Michigan players against their will
at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
They really are.
Speaker 9 (41:53):
It is.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
I'm sitting here and watching this game with Monsi, and
I look over, and I'm obviously doing the show as
I'm watching the game.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
So I'm not watching every single snap.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
It's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
But defensively, they're flying around. Defensively, Michigan is making stuff happen. Offensively,
it looks like Western's playing Eastern. And I say that
because of all the yellow.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
It's not looking great.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
This is what happens when you dress like West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
This highlighter yellow is not working. I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
It is disgusting. It's Mays and blue, not Mays and Mays.
Speaker 9 (42:28):
Martin, at least your alma mater did not lose at
home to Citadel today in three overtimes like mine just did.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Is that your alma mater?
Speaker 9 (42:36):
Charlotte lost at home, home opener to the Citadel, 43-41,
triple OT.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
That's a tough one. That's hot.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
That's a stinger.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
That hurts.
Speaker 5 (42:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Biff Pogge, right? I don't have a $ 10 million quarterback.
Is that Biff Pogge? No, that's two coaches ago. Two
coaches ago. I thought he went back.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
He did go back to Michigan.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
No bueno. I'm sorry, Garrett. That is worse. But Martin
might join you.
Speaker 4 (43:03):
Respectfully, no, it's not worse. No, it is not worse. Respectfully.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Because nobody thought Charlotte was going to win anything or
do anything. I was told that Michigan was going to be,
it's a new attitude under Winningham.
Speaker 4 (43:16):
It's going to be a whole new scenario, a whole
new vibe. Well, you know what I just saw? He
had another pick six from the $ 10 million quarterback.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
Somebody called Larry Ellison and Dave Portnoy.
Speaker 4 (43:27):
Tell him, turn the money back on. Turn the money.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
Back on at the Michigan football facility, because goodness gracious,
this is ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
And Michigan is, he's out of bounds. I don't care.
Give him the touchdown anyway.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, they should, yeah. You're lucky he's out of bounds.
But the offense has not, has not looked good for
your Wolverines. It's okay, Martin. Listen, he's out of bounds, so... God,
he's out of bounds by himself, too. Like, not even, oh, oh, dummy. Dummy, dummy.
(44:02):
That should have been a pick six.
Speaker 4 (44:03):
Way out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
Way out of, by himself. But you just, you just
stepped out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Sincerely, these are the type of moments that lose teams
like Western Michigan these types of games.
Speaker 7 (44:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
Like, when Boise State on third and five and deep
in their own territory with about four minutes left in
the second quarter, they ran the ball. I remember seeing,
I told, it was Bo and Chris Profet in there.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
I said, this Boise State just lost this game.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
They had to try, in my opinion, had to throw
the ball, had to try to score a touchdown there.
And then from there, kick the field goal on fourth
down because you're going to need touchdowns. against this team
sure enough they get outscored 20 to 10 in the
second half do you know what I mean that's the
type of thing that's generally how this works because when
you're sitting here you're watching these games it's all about
(44:47):
how you're impacting the line of scrimmage right in general
right how are you impacting the line of scrimmage on
a play-by-play basis Michigan's defense is impacting the line of
scrimmage for sure Michigan's offense not so much Two teams
that you do expect to impact the line of scrimmage
is the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers
when you look at their lineup and roster. I think
(45:09):
if you have a true hot take on this that
you're just fishing for one, it's a fascinating case study.
And how would you handle an 18-hour flight?
Speaker 4 (45:19):
Not well.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
Because I just polled the room earlier today and, you know,
Perfette said he had been on like a 14-hour as
a kid You know, Bo said as far as he
had flown was to Chicago, right? And he's like, that's,
you know, he's like, it's a five-hour flight.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
I've done a 12-hour flight to Germany.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
I did the Dubai.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (45:39):
Right?
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:40):
That was about, you know, I think 12 and then
10 more we had to lay over.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
That's rough.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
But I could not imagine doing anything of note after
that flight, which is why I kind of like, The
Ram strategy, more than the 49ers strategy.
Speaker 7 (46:00):
Right?
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Like, the 49ers have been in Australia, so they're now
on day four of Australian food.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
Yeah, no, they're on the Barbie.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Fosters.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4 (46:13):
Right, so they've been there in an effort to get
their body.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
acclimated and adjusted with the times and everything. Sure.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
But when you consider that the game is being played
at 1030 in the morning, local time, you know, if
you get to the stadium at 8 a.m. for a
noon kickoff or 1 p.m. kickoff, when you get to
the stadium for a 1030 kickoff, right? Moving your schedule
(46:42):
all around to me seems a little weird. Whereas like
the Rams feel like to me, they're just going to
wake up at 2 a.m., which probably feels like normal time,
and just they're treating it like the time is not changing,
which there's no perfect way to do this. But if
I were of one to try to do it, I
(47:04):
think treating it like the time is not changing is
better because I then don't have to re-acclimate for week two, three, four,
and five.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
And six.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
I think in theory, it sounds like the right plan. Obviously,
they fly differently than you and I would fly. I mean,
they're probably going to be able to rest and sleep.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
To paraphrase Draymond Green, though, 18 hours on a plane
is still 18 hours on a plane.
Speaker 7 (47:31):
1,000%.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
But I think the 18 hours for them is different
than the 18 hours for you and I. Those 18
hours are going to be the most comfortable that they
can be for the Rams. But it is 18 hours for...
So with that, that's why I'm like, I think in theory,
the idea sounds right that they're treating. They just want
to get there. They want to do it. They don't
want to let their body feel the time difference. They
(47:53):
kind of just want to shock the body. And so
in theory, it sounds right. But like 18 hours, like,
I don't know, Martin, like. this seems like you're either
going to be just so pumped and excited because you
have no time to think, or you're going to be
drained and exhausted and feel like you're in the upside
(48:15):
down because you didn't maybe get to sleep on this
18 hour flight. I don't, I have a hard time sleeping,
especially on a plane. Like I, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (48:23):
So I do.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
I have, are you out before it takes off?
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Please. I have, I'm so good at sleep flying now.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Oh, yeah? My brother is asleep before it takes off.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:34):
I may be falling asleep as it's landing, and then
I have to wake up.
Speaker 4 (48:37):
That's backwards.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
It is. I have a hard time sleeping. But I
assume these guys are going to be a little bit
better adjusted. I don't know. I don't know what I
would do. I don't know if I would prefer this.
I feel like there's a lot of pressure on the
Rams in the sense that you're not... Pressure, but man,
I'm like... Going back on my thoughts, because I'm thinking
(48:58):
there's a lot of pressure. But then at the same time,
if you don't have time to think and you just
have to go play, you're just going to go play.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
You never even adjust to the idea that you're in
this foreign land. Like, yeah, it's 1030 in the morning
for everybody else. But like, like I got I got
back from uh i flew i was in detroit this
week and i flew back yesterday and i was up
at like 2 a.m why because i i like slept
on the flight and i was just kind of like
(49:25):
wired didn't really have a good concept of what time
it was supposed to be right i look up oh
it's 2 30.
Speaker 4 (49:30):
More i should go to bed You know, I got
stuff to do. Right. I got to shut this down.
Speaker 7 (49:36):
Right.
Speaker 2 (49:36):
So but you don't ever really kind of you just
hit the ground and you start flowing and going. That's
what I think the Rams are doing. And again, there's
no perfect science to this.
Speaker 4 (49:46):
No. But I feel like if.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
I were to choose, I would choose the Ram strategy
over the 49er strategy because I do have to play
a week two game. back in whatever East, at least
a relatively reasonable time period or time zone to my body.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (50:04):
So I guess you're, you're picking which week do you
care more about week one or week two?
Speaker 2 (50:08):
And I think that's really what it ultimately boils down
to for me. If I, if I had, I think
both teams would like to win this game. I think
the Rams are baking in. If we lose this, this.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
Will be okay.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
Who I'm just checking to see who they play in
a week to each of them. Because, okay, 49ers are
playing the Dolphins in week two. That's probably why they're
not too worried about week two. That's probably why they're
doing this trip. And then the Rams do face the
Giants on Monday Night Football. So... Yeah, clearly the Rams
(50:41):
are more worried in the sense about their week two
matchup or don't want to be tired for their week
two matchup. And the 49ers are not worried about Malik
Willis and the Dolphins. And I don't blame them. I
don't know what I would prefer. I don't know. Also,
did you see that apparently the San Francisco 49ers practice
(51:01):
area is near a substation?
Speaker 4 (51:04):
In Australia?
Speaker 3 (51:05):
In Australia, there's a substation near them.
Speaker 4 (51:07):
I buy it. They're like, why change?
Speaker 3 (51:12):
Let's keep it consistent.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
We told you it wasn't making a problem. We told
you it wasn't making a difference. See?
Speaker 2 (51:18):
But that is brutal scheduling by the NFL to put
both of those teams on the East Coast after flying
to Australia. Because I just looked it up because I
wasn't exactly sure how far you would.
Speaker 4 (51:32):
I mean, you would.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
I would think that you would fly out of L.A.
and go across the Pacific. to Australia, but I double
checked just to be sure.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
And you do. Okay.
Speaker 6 (51:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (51:42):
So now you got to.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
Go all the way to Australia today and either fly
from here to New York or here to Miami.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
And both of their games are at home.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
49ers at home.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Rams are at home.
Speaker 6 (51:52):
Sorry. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
That makes more sense.
Speaker 3 (51:54):
Yes. So 49ers are hosting the Dolphins. Rams are hosting
the Giants.
Speaker 4 (51:57):
That makes more sense. So it doesn't make any sense.
If you had to play in New York or Miami,
would you go the other way though?
Speaker 7 (52:01):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (52:01):
Would you then go over all across Europe?
Speaker 3 (52:03):
I would just go around the world.
Speaker 4 (52:04):
Atlantic?
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (52:07):
That's what I was thinking. It's like, do you fly
the other way?
Speaker 2 (52:10):
Maybe, maybe you stop off in like Italy for like
a gelato.
Speaker 5 (52:14):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
Through your connection flight.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Some pizza.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
I'm watching Chris Sims and Nicole Auerbach.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
And everybody trying to make sense of what's happening to
Michigan right now.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
I don't think you're going to.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
114 yards of total offense, Monty. 75 on the first drive.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Even worse than it looks. Even worse than the stat
line says.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
And you know what?
Speaker 2 (52:43):
I've said it twice in text. I'll say it right now.
Are we sure that after hearing all that Kyle Whittingham
had to say or lack thereof of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry?
And all the good things that Urban Meyer had to
say about one Kyle Whittingham as he took this job.
Speaker 4 (52:59):
Is he a plant? Because what in the hell are we.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
Doing throwing a six yard out with 10 seconds.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
Left in a half to throw a pick six?
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Like- Yeah, what was that going to get you?
Speaker 4 (53:12):
What was it going to get you?
Speaker 3 (53:13):
What was it going to get you?
Speaker 2 (53:15):
A first down conversion? There's six seconds left in the half.
You're on your own 30. You've gotten 25 yards of
freaking offense since the first drive.
Speaker 4 (53:26):
You have to throw a six-yard out. With my quarterback,
you can't throw a check down.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
I was going to say, could that be like a
layup in the NBA where you just want to see
the basket go in the hoop? Is this like we
just want him to make a good throw, have a
good catch, feel good? Could that have been the reason
behind it? I'm not saying it's a good reason.
Speaker 4 (53:44):
Well, if that is the case, then oh, boy.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
10 million, 10 million, 10 million dollars.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
10 million, 10 million, 10 million dollars. I'm just saying.
I mean.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
Martin, it's week one. It's week one. Just don't let
it affect you.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
You've had two turnovers in the first half, but you're
not establishing the running game.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
That's how Michigan is supposed. Part of the reason why
Ohio State used.
Speaker 2 (54:13):
To lose to Michigan was Right. Like those that last
stretch with Jim Harbaugh at the end was because Ohio
State was did not for whatever reason. And I honestly
I think Will Howard the last game got a concussion
and they were afraid to take him out of the
game because if you benched him against Michigan, it would
have been that disaster. We took a nasty shot in
(54:34):
the second quarter and wasn't the same guy afterwards. But
if you look, offensively, their offensive lines and defensive lines
were getting pushed around by Michigan players. And there's been
this whole conversation in the league now about how, you know,
that Michigan National Championship team, none of the guys really
are making big impacts.
Speaker 4 (54:54):
None of the guys, yeah, the skill players weren't ever great.
It was the lines.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
It was the offensive and defensive lines that were dominating,
and that's how J.J. McCarthy was able to look like
a first-round quarterback because he had an incredible offensive line.
Speaker 4 (55:13):
And I see this.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
I'm watching Bryce Underwood just getting white jerseys all around him.
It's not what you like to see, especially when you
heard Kyle Whittingham all offseason talk about he's.
Speaker 4 (55:23):
Going to strengthen this team and all this, so on
and so forth.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
About 20 minutes until LSU kicks off, so there'll be
something else more disappointing than college football if Clemson's able to.
Speaker 4 (55:35):
Depending on how it goes. Maybe.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
But right now, I'm trying to do the math in
my head. I may be forgetting somebody, but I don't
think so. Save Oregon. Michigan right now is putting up
the worst top 25, the worst performance of a top
25 team we've seen so far to start the year.
Speaker 3 (55:58):
Um, yeah, I think you're being a little bit harsh,
but I think it's fair.
Speaker 4 (56:02):
I don't even, I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (56:04):
I don't, I mean, if you want to count in
like maybe the attendance at USC, but Jade, my album
went through three complete passes.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Right.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
When you're looking at the way, like I'm looking at
Texas A & M right now, up 26 to nothing.
Speaker 4 (56:17):
And before they can go to damn halftime.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
Yeah, it's true. You might be right, which is not good.
Speaker 2 (56:25):
Sincerely, I think that this is, from a ranked team
playing an unranked team, which is just about everybody in
this week, this is the worst first half I've seen.
At least Oregon was moving the ball.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
They weren't scoring.
Speaker 5 (56:40):
No.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
Yeah, Dante Moore didn't look bad.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
He missed somebody bad on one throw. Evan Stewart. But then, again...
Came back into it, and you're able to figure it out.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Bryce Underwood does not look good.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
We are allegedly 23 minutes away from kickoff of Clemson
at LSU. Hopefully something to take my mind off of
what's going on in Ann Arbor. Also, too, I want
to dive into this decision-maker survey that came from The Athletic.
We see these a lot around this time of the year.
There's some interesting things out of this that I'm going
(57:13):
to challenge. Let's see where Monsi lands on it. Martin Weiss,
Monsi Villanova, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (57:20):
Hey, it's Covino and Rich from Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (57:23):
Now, in addition to hearing us live weekdays from 5
to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio, we're excited to announce a brand new YouTube
channel for the show.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Yup, that's right.
Speaker 7 (57:33):
You can now watch Covino and Rich live on YouTube

Speaker 2 (58:03):
Martin Weiss, Monsi Boulanios, coming to you live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios on allegedly a Fox Sports football Saturday.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
What do you mean? There is football going on.
Speaker 4 (58:11):
I know, but I don't like it anymore. No, I know.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Your team is not playing good football, but they're out there.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
It was more fun when it was just artificial games.
We were talking about restraining. Everybody said, let's wait for
the games to get here.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
No, let's go back.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
Let's go back to Friday.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
I want to argue about judges and restraining orders and
can't boys play in the NFL. Actually, in fact, do
the Detroit Lions have any linemen available they can send
to Ann Arbor for the second half?
Speaker 9 (58:36):
No.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
I'm just saying, Lane Kiffin's doing it.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
Well, technically not yet. Technically not yet. Leaving the spots there,
but technically not on the roster today.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Any reports that LSU delayed the game so they could
decide if they still, you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 4 (58:51):
They were still going back and forth.
Speaker 3 (58:52):
You think those guys are there just in case? Because
that would be so dramatic if at halftime they, like,
come out suited. I would love that.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
That would be absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (59:04):
That would be madness. There's something that I feel is
absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 7 (59:09):
Mm.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
That happens in the NFL seemingly every year, no matter
what happens. But this athletic survey of decision makers, which
is quantified as general managers, higher ranking executives, head coaches, coordinators,
and other coaches. 20 voters on the panel, okay? So
(59:34):
with 20 voters on the panel, each voter had the
opportunity to get three votes, so that means there's 60
total votes available. Of the 60 total votes for who
were the best three quarterbacks in the league right now,
Josh Allen received 19, Patrick Mahomes received 16, and Matthew
(59:57):
Stafford received 15. Now, I'm old enough to remember how
last season ended. But Josh Allen had not had like,
not one, but two of the worst turnovers you'll see
in a football game. And that's why Denver did not represent,
(01:00:20):
I mean, that's why Buffalo was not in the AFC
championship game.
Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Flatly like in a game like Josh Allen had two
of the worst turnovers.
Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
You'll ever see.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
And I just wonder what Josh Allen would have to
do for people to like if he ever wins something
of note, like a championship conference championship or Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
Well, there's nowhere else to put him.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
I think he's going to name him the best quarterback
of all time at that point because it seems to me,
to me, my dollar, Matthew.
Speaker 4 (01:00:54):
Stafford was the best quarterback in football last year.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
He got the MVP, not only that, but also the
only defense that gave him any trouble was Seattle.
Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
Seattle won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
I think if Seattle did not exist, then Matthew Stafford
and the Rams would have likely won the Super Bowl, right?
Speaker 4 (01:01:12):
And I'm not about to sit here and say that
Sam Darnold was.
Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
The reason why he was wheeling and dealing all through, right?
The Seattle's defense was the reason why they won the
Super Bowl. Darnold played well enough, not taking anything away
from him. Defense was what that team's calling card was.
Every Stafford, if you look at his numbers, you break
them out against every other team. He's still the MVP,
but it's like, wow, if he just didn't play against
(01:01:36):
the Seahawks twice a year, he might have had the
best year we've ever seen of a quarterback ever.
Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Yeah, I think my my only argument back to you
is if I don't if. Those turnovers by Josh Allen
at the end there were really bad. And they were
solely by himself turnovers, right? Like only him. It wasn't
like a tipped pass that ended in the hands of
(01:02:01):
a defender. Like him by himself did those terrible turnovers.
But throughout the entire season, we saw Josh Allen do
incredible things. And so Matthew Stafford is great. But if
I'm not looking at the numbers, if I am just
looking at quarterback play, Josh Allen definitely to me was
(01:02:24):
the better quarterback last year.
Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
They was.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
I can't help it. I also think the Rams have
a better team than the Bills. on maybe not in
special teams, but the Rams have the better team.
Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Like Josh Allen doesn't do it alone. He has James cook,
which is a big part of it. And it's not
that the bills are a bad team, but the Rams
were the better team around the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:02:46):
I mean, what's the most helpful thing for a quarterback?
The O-line. Good run game.
Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
O-line run game.
Speaker 4 (01:02:52):
They led the league in rushing. James Cook was the
rushing champion. Like, they led the league in rushing. You
know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Like, meanwhile, the Rams ended up going into 13 personnel
running three tight.
Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
Ends on the field, partly because all the wide receivers
were hurt.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Like, you know, I just said, like, it's just, I just,
the idea that Buffalo is devoid of talent around Josh
Allen is one I push back on.
Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
But I don't think he's devoid of talent. I just
think the Rams had better talent, though.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
But offensively especially, they spend a ton of first-round picks
on the offense, like pass catchers, so on and so forth.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
And it's always like, oh, these guys don't work. These
guys don't work. Or it'll be DJ Moore.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
He's now the new– I think it's the most overrated
signing of the offseason.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
DJ Moore?
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
Yeah, the most overrated acquisition.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
Like when they talk about like how much of an
impact he's going to have on the next– like is
he a good player?
Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Sure.
Speaker 6 (01:03:45):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
But it's like.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
DJ Moore is– He's no Puka Nakua.
Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
Right. He's he's in that he's not the top 10.
He's not the top 15.
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
And quite honestly, I don't think he was going to
be a major part of Chicago's offensive strategy this year.
Speaker 6 (01:03:58):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
That's why they were able to move off from him.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
So I just don't think I think they're going to
be in the same spot they were last year in
the postseason. Everybody's going to pick them to win. They'll
have two massive brain farts. And then all of a
sudden we'll be trying to relitigate what an interception is.
to try to like paint josh allen's ceiling in a
brighter light it's just really it's absurd some of the
things that we end up hearing sometimes out of that
(01:04:23):
but again if you look at the votes for the
mvp in this same decision maker category 20 votes available
josh allen received eight of the 20 votes available now
my also thing is this is small sample size very
small because there's 32 teams.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
Right it's a super small.
Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
And there's no knowledge of like how many.
Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
Who came from where other five.
Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Bill staffers on this right you know what i mean
or how does it all break down you'd like to
think the athletic is doing a more robust uh but.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
You don't know that you don't know you.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Don't know who knows maybe you have to investigate this
three years later and come down with all these editors
editors notes about the coverage you know steve I've been
told Kyle Whittingham had physical tough teams.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:05:09):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
I mean, you're still winning.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
I'd like to see it happen offensively. Let's go to
Steve in a second.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
You know, the name Bryce Underwood is trending on Twitter.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
I can only imagine. I'm sure the $ 10 million is
probably too right underneath.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
I just figured you've been doing a lot of tweeting
during the show.
Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
I've been trying not to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
I'm trying my best to.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Be professional and focused.
Speaker 4 (01:05:30):
Oh, no, I'll put it on main.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
They have just started the third quarter at 16th-ranked Michigan.
Wolverines ahead of Western Michigan 7-6. Bryce Underwood with one
interception thrown. He does have one touchdown run. Also in
progress on FS1 late third quarter. 12th-ranked Texas Tech now
up 23-3 on Abilene Christian. Late third at 8th-ranked Texas
A & M. Aggies over Missouri State 26-0. And halftime,
(01:05:56):
it is 14th ranked BYU, 42 to nothing over Utah Tech.
And yes, we are expecting kickoff in 10 minutes finally.
After a couple hours of weather delay, 11th ranked LSU
is hosting Clemson.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
How exciting.
Speaker 6 (01:06:12):
Well, maybe. Maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
I've seen week one and... It wasn't a lot to
write home about. I mean, like the highlight of the
weekend so far was Michigan State was paying their opponent
a million dollars to come visit last night, and Spartans
actually fell behind for a couple of minutes early fourth quarter.
That might be the highlight.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
I couldn't even enjoy it right, Steve. I couldn't even
enjoy it right. That's supposed to be a party for me.
I'm supposed to be dancing in my apartment doing the
river dance. Couldn't even enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Because of this. You're saying today has killed.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
It's no longer fun.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
We did have a game at number two, Oregon, where
the home team was down first half. Oregon did beat
Boise State 34-27. Dante Moore, 378 yards passing, three touchdowns.
Blowout wins for number one, Ohio State, number three, Georgia,
and number five, Texas. Wins for Indiana and Alabama in
blowout fashion as well, and for Penn State, Tennessee, and Iowa.
(01:07:06):
At number 23, Houston, Cougars beat Oregon State 33-20. There
was a lightning delay at halftime in that game. Auburn
defeated Baylor 17-16, stopping a two-point try at the end
at the goal line in Atlanta. And Oklahoma State lost
at Tulsa 24-10. There are three college games on Sunday,
by the way, on this holiday weekend. Friday night on
(01:07:27):
Fox TV, it'll be number 25, Missouri at Kansas. Among
the games in progress out of the top 25, South
Florida is now leading 13-3 against FIU early in the fourth.
Vanderbilt only led Austin Peay at the half 15-9. It's
now Vandy 28-9 early in the fourth. The Minnesota Vikings
(01:07:47):
re-sign veteran safety Harrison Smith. Patriots running back Travion Henderson
missed practice again with an ankle injury. New England plays
the season opener Wednesday at Seattle. To baseball, Philadelphia's Kyle
Schwarber with his 41st homer of the season. Phil's beat
Atlanta 4-2. Wins for the Cubs and Detroit as well.
Brewers still in a rain delay. Bottom of the fourth
(01:08:07):
at Cincinnati. Milwaukee up 2-1. Not yet an official game.
Red Sox lead bottom of the eighth at Baltimore 5-0.
The Rays are tied 3-3 at Texas. Yankees are winning
5-1 at San Diego. Top of the seventh. That's the
Fox TV game tonight for much of the country. Houston
ahead at home against the Diamondbacks. 3-2 in the bottom
of the seventh. Arizona Diamondbacks half game behind San Diego
(01:08:29):
for the last NL wildcard. The Dodgers have a 2-0
lead against the Nationals' top of the second.
Speaker 7 (01:08:34):
D.H.
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Shohei Otani of L.A. out again due to injuries for
a third straight game. Coco Gauff won her third round
match at the U.S.
Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
Open.
Speaker 1 (01:08:41):
Back to you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
You don't got any more, Steve?
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
I mean, seriously, anything to keep this Michigan game off?
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
I can mention in the good news department for your co-host.
Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
Tay Oscar Hernandez showed up again.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
At the plate tonight. That's what I want to hear.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
I don't know what has been going on the last
two weeks, but for the first time this season, he
has actually shown up at the plate. I know. And
he's part of the reason, like Mookie Betts has shown
up in the last couple weeks at the plate. If
they have those two guys actually in the lineup and
producing in the postseason, yes, they could actually win some
playoff games.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Steve, here's the problem I'm having. Right here, 6.30 p.m.
says college football results live looking. So this is the
game we have to live look in at is University
of Michigan.
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Can I tell you that your boy, Pat McAfee, tweeted
at 4.34 local time, so 7.34 Eastern time. I've never
seen a quarterback this hyped walking down a tunnel. Feels
like Bryce Underwood is about to go wild.
Speaker 4 (01:09:39):
That's why he's the most hated man in America. Right there.
Opinions like that.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
I just had to throw that out there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
Bryce Underwood still has like three years of eligibility left, right? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
Seems that way.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
Do you got the receipt for the NIL deal?
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
Can you try and get out of that?
Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
I'll just say it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
There's been many a coach in college football where the
boosters get mad enough, they'll pool their resources and get
them out now.
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
Well, you know, honestly. 10 million, 10 million, 10 million.
Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
And this is not Bryce Underwood's fault, but... C.J.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Carr should be the starting quarterback in Michigan, and it
is disgusting.
Speaker 4 (01:10:17):
That he is not.
Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
Okay, this is an Irish reference. Please explain.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
C.J.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Carr is Lloyd Carr's grandson. Do you know the recruiting
pitch that Tommy Reese gave to him?
Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
For Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
For Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
His recruiting pitch was, how on earth does Michigan have
anyone else in their class but you?
Speaker 4 (01:10:36):
And he said, you know what?
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
You're right. Literally, that was the pitch. How does Michigan
have anyone else in their class but you? And he said,
you know what?
Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
You're right. And he went to Notre Dame. There you go.
Second flag on the offense this time.
Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
So really, this is kind of ancillary negative from the
whole NIL era already, is that you're putting all your
eggs in this basket.
Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
Steve.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
And this is the meal.
Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
Steve, the quarterback just got a freaking holding penalty.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Yeah, he did.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
On a read option, the quarterback got a holding penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
And I'll remind you, the last person who organized this
offense ended the season in jail.
Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
Quite literally. And this looks exactly the same.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
I believe Michigan has as many penalties as points tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
If not worse, in jail he was in. Washtenaw County
jail he was in.
Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
For our listeners, Martin is standing. He doesn't ever stand.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Seven penalties, seven points.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
I mean, seriously.
Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
Oregon, I think, had nine.
Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
Well, LSU, please kick off.
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Well, it's a good thing in the Michigan schedule. They
got a cupcake next week, so I'm sure everything will
be fine.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Steve, if these are cupcakes, we are in desperate need
of an insulin shot.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
For those unaware.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
The sugar rush is clearly taking over.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
The big noon kickoff for Fox TV, noon Eastern, next Saturday,
is Michigan against Oklahoma.
Speaker 6 (01:12:07):
Ooh.
Speaker 7 (01:12:08):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
Well, well.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
I haven't seen Oklahoma play this year yet. I'm not
sure if they've played a game yet this year.
Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
It was 51-zip last night.
Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Okay, 51-zip.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
It was UTEP, so like half the games today, I'm
not sure what we learned, but.
Speaker 4 (01:12:23):
I did not think John Mateer was very good last year.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
I think we were not supposed to learn anything with
this Michigan game.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Oh, we're learning.
Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
We're learning. And that's the problem.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
We're learning about the coworkers, not just the team. This
is group stage in the World Cup, right? If you
blow the team out, it's nothing of note. But if
you struggle.
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
It is bad.
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
No, it's worse because you don't, the group stage in
the World Cup, they actually draw names out of a
hat as to your opponent.
Speaker 4 (01:12:48):
That is true.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
These, you actually literally pay opponents to come play you.
Speaker 5 (01:12:54):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
I tell you, Ohio State's opponent today, Ball State, got
$ 1. 9 million to lose 56-3. And the athletic department said,
thank you. Can we come back next year?
Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
Yes, because that's going to, you don't know what impact
that will have on, like, not even to be funny.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
When I was a kid growing up in Southern California,
Cal State Fullerton had a football program.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
They did?
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
They needed money. Absolutely they did. They played at Florida
and at LSU in the same year and piled up
a half a million dollars in one season. And this
was back then.
Speaker 4 (01:13:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
Which, you know, you can imagine what other sports that
pays for as well, not just football.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
Another punt for Michigan. Gotta love it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
Coming up next, though, I'm going to dive back into
the NFL because.
Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Because you need to.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Well, not only that, I'm trying to save this show
and have some modicum of professionalism, but also, like, I've
seen some changes being made, and the only thing I
can figure is because it's a whole bunch of people
tweeted about this last year, and it's like, if this
is going to be the impetus of why we start
to change policy... then we're going to be in for
(01:14:03):
a really, really, really long go at this. I cannot
believe some of the changes in evaluation that have been
made as a result of someone wholly.
Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
Undeserving of them. We'll get to that coming up next.
Speaker 6 (01:14:18):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
And I'll tell you what, Muncie, the more things change,
I just wonder. I just wonder about, like, Michigan football
is in the tailspin. Jim Harbaugh ruined this program.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
But that's a conversation for next hour.
Speaker 9 (01:14:40):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
I do want to start talking about, I know I
said I was going to talk about Pro Football Hall
of Fame, but I'm going to start with a college
football coach. Because the reason why the Pro Football Hall
of Fame is making massive changes through the voting process
is because of the grave, just the grave change disservice
(01:15:02):
and just crime against humanity that Bill Belichick was not
a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (01:15:08):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Can you believe it? The shame that we should all
feel because Bill Belichick was not a first ballot Hall
of Famer. So now as a result of this, the
selection committee is going to be trimmed from 50 members
to 28. There's no longer going to be a representative
from every team who was able to vote, right? There
(01:15:32):
was now going to be 27 at-large selectors and one
selector from the Pro Football Writers of America to represent them.
There were going to be 27. There used to be
one at minimum per team, right? Now they're going to
eliminate other categories and all of this and that. But
the problem is the only reason that people are making
(01:15:55):
this grand change is because Bill Belichick did not make
the Hall of Fame in his first year as an
eligible candidate.
Speaker 4 (01:16:08):
And I'm here to tell you, we didn't need to
change the rules for that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
It is perfectly okay for Bill Belichick to have not
made the first ballot, not been a first ballot NFL
Hall of Famer. Understandable that he also, yes, he has
one of the most decorated.
Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
NFL coaching careers that you'll ever see. I don't take
that away.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
But what I also don't take away is the idea
that not once but twice was very credibly investigated and
caught for cheating. I didn't at the time say you
got to take him out the league, right? I didn't
at the time say that it invalidates his whole career.
But if there were to be a first ballot Hall
(01:16:57):
of Fame coach, I would expect that coach to have
no blemishes on his resume. Belichick, for all of the
beauty that is there, there's some warts.
Speaker 4 (01:17:12):
And that's okay. That's okay. That's okay. It's fine. We
can look at this and evaluate that and say, you
know what? The reason why, Spygate, Deflategate, okay, cool. Let's
all vote for him year two.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I don't think anybody had the idea they're going to
keep him out forever, especially after the big uproar. Because
it really was, I can't, the way it was, there's
five people in this room right now. It was like
Monsi thought Martin was going to vote for him. And
Martin thought Monsi was going to vote for him. And
then all of a sudden, oh, we left Belichick off
the ballot.
Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
Oh, no. But ultimately, that would have gotten rectified this year.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
And he's far from the perfect first Ballot Hall of
Fame candidate.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
So I don't I don't know if I'm the person
that you want to have the discussion with, because I
think Bill Belichick should have been a first ballot Hall
of Famer, even with the blemishes that you have just
laid out. The other thing about this, Martin, is I
don't know if this would have been rectified this second year.
Reports are, though, that these changes have been I don't
know how much I believe it. I think I agree
(01:18:16):
with you that this really did happen because of Bill Belichick,
even though reports are that this. These changes have been
something that they've been looking at for the last two
and a half years. That's what some of the reports
are saying. But I thought he should have been a
first ballot Hall of Famer. I don't know if it
would have been rectified. You just laid out reasons like
the cheating stuff to some people. They can't get over that.
(01:18:37):
They can't let it go. So I don't know if
it would have been rectified, to be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
There's a difference between letting it go and acknowledging what happened.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
No one.
Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
To me is holding a big grudge against Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
I don't know if it's a grudge.
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
I'm going to say it like this.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
He's The fact that he's eligible shows that you would
think like, like shoeless Joe Jackson, for example, couldn't, he's not,
he can't be in a hole.
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Like there were guys who were literally banned from the
sport because they were cheating.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
He was punished and it was all well and good.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
But at the end of the day, it's like, you know,
it's not quite the same as a funeral, but like,
it's not a funeral.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
And it's like, you know what? Monty was a great
radio host, but she was a better woman.
Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
Like, no, we're only talking about your radio host ability.
We're only talking about the coaching.
Speaker 4 (01:19:28):
That's it. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
It's only that.
Speaker 6 (01:19:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
But I feel like you're trying to be logical by saying, like, okay,
they kept him out one year. They're not going to
do that anymore. That was the punishment that it sounds
like you are happy with. Oh, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
I don't think. No, I'm talking about he was punished physically.
while he was coaching.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Right, but you were for him not being a first
ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
I would have expected him to be one. When he
was not voted one, I did not blink.
Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
You did not blink because of the blemishes, because of
everything that happened. There are very.
Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Prominent, rational reasons why a voter would say, I am
not putting him in first ballot.
Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
I feel like some people I don't know these voters.
It wouldn't surprise me if to some voters it's like, no,
he still doesn't deserve to be in it. Robert Kraft
is still not in it. And you can put them,
you know, hand in hand with all of the blemishes
that we're talking about when it comes to New England.
So I just don't know if it would have been
rectified this year. Like, I don't see that. I think
(01:20:24):
the people who didn't want him in don't want him in.
Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
Yeah, it's not that deep.
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
If it wasn't that deep, then he should have been
a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
When you read the reporting of some of the people
who were voting on it, it's like, I didn't vote
for Belichick, but I never would have expected that he
was not going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 9 (01:20:42):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
So there's a difference between, I thought these other five
people were more.
Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
Than this guy because this is his first time up,
which has happened to players and coaches and executives in
the Hall of Fame since the start of it.
Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
And because it was.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Oh, my God, Bill Belichick, we now have to revamp
the entire rules. You know who's sitting up there? Drew Pearson,
the Dallas Cowboys, is sitting there furious. Now I don't
want to change the rules because Belichick didn't get in. Like,
there's a bunch of people who didn't get in, and
that's okay.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
Yeah, it is okay. But it's Bill Belichick.
Speaker 7 (01:21:19):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
And he cheated. There's levels to this, though.
Speaker 5 (01:21:21):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
But the level was he cheated.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:24):
That's the problem.
Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
And so that's why it probably wouldn't have been rectified.
Because look at how you're seeing it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
But when you read the reporting, all the reporting was,
I would have voted for him if I had known
he wasn't going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
Yeah, because reports are always good. Reports are always 100% accurate.
Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
They're reporters.
Speaker 4 (01:21:37):
What are they supposed to say? They're telling the truth.
Martin Weiss, Mons.
Speaker 2 (01:21:46):
We line you'll share on a Fox sports football Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
Do we have any more of those underdog reads? Cause
I'm going to go on underdog right.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
Now and bet on Western Michigan to win this game.
Speaker 4 (01:21:59):
Whatever the odds are. I don't care.
Speaker 9 (01:22:01):
It's over.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
It's never been more over. Michigan is losing today.
Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
So back the Kyle Whittingham era off to a great start.
Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
At least you can watch Clemson and LSU officially.
Speaker 4 (01:22:16):
I know. Finally kicked off there in the real Death Valley.
I'll say it. I actually read a story about that
in The Athletic today.
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
The Death Valley. Which one is the real Death Valley?
And the story further made me feel.
Speaker 4 (01:22:31):
Like, yes, it is LSU. LSU. Yeah, it's simple. But, you.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Know, maybe Ohio State would regret this decision. Seeing how
things are currently going. But Ryan Day and the Ohio
State Buckeyes decided to, in the world where college football
tradition is quickly being erased, as we're watching teams play,
(01:22:59):
like Ohio State plays Texas in week two. That's not
the most random. And I know Clemson and Ellis, you started,
but this ACC, SEC matchup, like most of the time
you're used to seeing, not necessarily seeing games like this
in the early season. Ohio State didn't have a game
like that. They played Ball State today. Ball State got
a million and some change richer as a result.
Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Sure did.
Speaker 4 (01:23:19):
Lost by 53. Yes, they did.
Speaker 2 (01:23:23):
But tonight, or today rather, was Ohio State Senior Day.
Senior Day is traditionally left for the last home game
of the day, of the year rather, because it's the last.
Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
Time your seniors are going to play.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Now, In the college football playoff era, I kind of,
I could see a spin where you say, well, we're
Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (01:23:53):
We're going to host playoff games here.
Speaker 2 (01:23:56):
Let's do, the last game of the regular season does
not mean what it used to in college football. So
let's go ahead and move our senior night to week one.
But that's not what they said months ago. That's not,
and I checked several different reports. Ryan Day, legit, unless
(01:24:19):
Adam Rittenhouse and the rest of them, Nicole Auerbach, unless
they're all lying to me, Ryan Day said he moved
senior night so that everybody could be more focused for
the Michigan game. Now, when I wrote that down initially,
four hours ago when I was talking to Garrett, I
thought his score would be 42-7, Michigan in the lead.
Speaker 4 (01:24:43):
He might not have nothing to worry about.
Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
But for the record, I don't like this.
Speaker 3 (01:24:51):
You don't like that he moved it?
Speaker 4 (01:24:52):
No, I don't like that he moved it. Because?
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
I think that senior night should be the last home
game of the season. That should be a reflection of what, like,
your senior year is not over. And, like, understandable. And
what I really would have done is if I did
think that I want my players to be as focused
for the last game of the season as possible, I
would have said.
Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
This is Ohio State. We plan to host playoff games.
Speaker 2 (01:25:17):
I want to do it in the first week of
the season when it's a little bit less stress.
Speaker 3 (01:25:21):
I hear what you're saying that the reason. is something
to kind of— if you're an Ohio State fan, that's not
what you want to hear. It sounds like you are
already thinking about something you're worried about later on in
the year, and I don't like to hear the lack
of confidence going into week one. That aside, I totally
(01:25:44):
hear what you're saying, especially you as a Michigan man. But—
celebrating the seniors in week one, I don't think is
a bad idea. The reasoning he said is not what
you want to hear, but I do like it's exciting.
It's week one. Everybody's there. The school is ready to
(01:26:05):
kick off the season. What better way to celebrate your
seniors than when everybody's On high vibes. Like at the
end of the season, you might be stressed. You might
be worried about some things. That is not how you
want to celebrate your seniors, even though ideally it is
that way. But it does get it can get emotional
(01:26:26):
at this. I feel like it's all positive. It's all excitement.
It's all a good thing. The reasoning is not great
behind it. I'm with you, especially if you're an Ohio
State fan. I hear you, Martin. But I really don't
hate it. Like overall, I don't hate it. I think
it's good for the school. You're excited. Everything's kicking off,
and you're a senior. You're excited. It's not a bad thing.
Speaker 4 (01:26:46):
Let me tell you something, Marci.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
Western Michigan just took the lead in the fourth quarter
on a field goal.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
They did.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
And if I was a Bronco, my first radio partner's
name was Mike Feld. He went to Western Michigan and
was a big-time Bronco fan. In fact, most recently went
to the Frozen Four when they were there. He travels around.
He is losing his mind right now.
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
And I know this.
Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
He's not happy with that field goal just now because
that was a 19-play drive. It was a 19-play drive,
and then on 3rd and 11, the 20th play was
one of the most egregious face masks that was not
called by Michigan defender. This should be first and goal,
depending on where they are, Western Michigan driving with a
(01:27:28):
chance to go up 14-7. This has been the worst
start to a season that I have seen out of
the University of Michigan in 15 years.
Speaker 3 (01:27:40):
That's bad.
Speaker 4 (01:27:41):
Since Appalachian State. 2008.
Speaker 6 (01:27:46):
And I.
Speaker 4 (01:27:48):
Wouldn't even go... 2007.
Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
And that team, that team, that Appalachian state team, they,
they lost to app state, which was a freaking really
good team in division, whatever they call it back in
those days, division two, Armani Edwards, Armani Edwards, right? North
town that he, that one team went nuts. Then the
next week they get pounded by Oregon, right? They did
that Michigan team by, I think I might've been on
(01:28:12):
Michael James.
Speaker 4 (01:28:13):
That Oregon team got pounded by Oregon.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
In the week too. You know, I season ended. 11-2
with a win over Tim Tebow in Florida.
Speaker 7 (01:28:23):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
So I'm just saying, that season started out rough.
Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
But 11-2 is.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
About what you can get out of most Michigan season.
This is the worst start. Because Western Michigan ain't going
to win but seven games this year. This is disgusting.
Speaker 4 (01:28:40):
I'll tell you, is Whittingham a plant? We got to
go back and get the sound from the... I have
a ton of respect for Arvin Meyer and Ryan Day.
He's a really good guy.
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
You were happy with the hire when it happened because
it wasn't a big name, which is what you said.
Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
First of all, I never thought Kyle Whittingham would be available. Sincerely,
I thought he was going to be at Utah until
he retired because it felt like a lifer, okay? Never
in a million years did I have that Kyle Whittingham
was available. So I'm operating in this world of, like,
the Lane Kiffins, right? And it's like, well, I don't
want Lane Kiffin to be my head coach.
Speaker 4 (01:29:17):
You know what I'm saying? Like, yuck.
Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
That might be bad. What if Lincoln Riley gets to act?
You're thinking of the options that are available, right?
Speaker 4 (01:29:26):
You're hearing these names. Not necessarily jumping. At the idea.
Jumping at the idea.
Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
And also, you have to remember, the last head coach
of this program ended.
Speaker 4 (01:29:39):
The year in jail.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
They weren't planning on firing him until he went to jail.
So then you have to open a whole new coaching
search because of all this naftiness going on in your
athletic department.
Speaker 4 (01:29:56):
And so, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
At the time, I said Kyle Whittingham should be able
to build a team that can establish a line of scrimmage,
and if Michigan can establish a line of scrimmage, they'll
win nine games. It's been the strategy for Michigan football
since the start of freaking football. And I'm not talking
about the start.
Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
Of Michigan football. Michigan State started football in general. The sport.
They run the ball. Think about it. Tom Brady went
to Michigan with a six-round pick. They didn't know what
to do with him. Okay? They run the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
When Jim Harbaugh was running through, when Jim Harbaugh was
suspended and Sharon Moore coached at.
Speaker 4 (01:30:35):
Penn State, you know what they did, Monsi?
Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
Is that when he cried?
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
That is the— it might be the— Was that.
Speaker 3 (01:30:40):
When he cried?
Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (01:30:42):
Oh, you know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:30:44):
No, he might have cried after Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
It was Ohio State that he cried after.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Okay, okay. But it might have also been— it might have
been Penn State. You know, I can't drill it down.
But think about this. You have a substitute teacher and
a head coach, right? And at that point, legitimately a
substitute teacher. We didn't know just how bad it was
going to be when he got promoted during maternity leave.
Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
Okay? It was really bad. But Sun Tzu's teacher and
head coach, they run the ball, Wanchee, 30 times in
a row. 30 times in a row. That's what I
told people. Taylor McCartney's not a first-round quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
You're not going to run the ball 30 times in
a row with a first-rounder at quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:31:19):
You're just not going to do it. You're just not
going to do it. That's like saying, you know what?
I'm only going to take my Ferrari in the neighborhood streets.
Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
No, you know, I'm not driving my Ferrari.
Speaker 4 (01:31:30):
I'm going to the freeway. I'm going to open this
bad boy up a bit.
Speaker 6 (01:31:33):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
That's what you do with a first-round quarterback. Now, with
this quarterback, I wish they would run the ball more.
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Well, maybe that'll be the change after, you know, the
first three quarters. Maybe that'll be the change that you'll
see in week two. It's early. It's early, and the
game's not over.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
You know, how long does it take you, Monsi, when
you go to a restaurant to know that this place stinks?
Speaker 3 (01:31:55):
Oh, man. Sometimes more than once. Other times right away.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
How long does it take you when you go to
the movie theater? You bought your ticket and you're sitting
there and you're like, oh, this movie stinks.
Speaker 4 (01:32:06):
This is a bad movie.
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
I'm pretty quick to judge on a movie.
Speaker 4 (01:32:09):
No, I paid way too much money to sit here,
so I got to finish it.
Speaker 6 (01:32:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
But the chances that this thing ends up good, none.
Speaker 9 (01:32:17):
They have run only 36 offensive plays in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
By the way.
Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
Western Michigan ran 20 offensive plays on the last drive.
Speaker 9 (01:32:26):
Yeah, they've had 54 offensive plays to Michigan's 36.
Speaker 4 (01:32:29):
Oof. I'm telling you.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
They've dominated the ball against the team that should have
won the national title. If I was a fan of Western,
I'd be upset I'm not up more. I'd be upset
I'm not up more. I'm going to text my buddy
Mike Feld. I hope you're enjoying this because I'm not.
Speaker 4 (01:32:47):
And you know what?
Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
Kurt Cignetti, he warned us all about this this morning.
He warned us all about this type of thing this morning.
Talk with Jenny Tapp. We'll get that sound coming up next.
I think you told me you already had it, Gary.
Speaker 4 (01:33:01):
Don't worry about it. We'll get it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
Because I think that this guy just has the best
attitude when it comes to college football, especially today's version
of college football. It's refreshing, and it's what I would
love to see everywhere else. You know who I'd like
to see at Michigan? That guy, Kurt Cignetti. How can
we hire him?
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
He can't. I'm letting you know now.
Speaker 4 (01:33:21):
That's what I want. That's what I wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
The guy nobody's heard of who comes in and takes
30 small school transfers and makes it a freaking Disney movie.
You know, with Fernando Mendoza and the like.
Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
But no. Instead, we're here. Second down for Michigan. They're
going to lose this game. I've been saying this since
half time. They're going to lose this game.
Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
You have.
Speaker 3 (01:33:41):
I'm joining you in your misery, though. Dodgers just lost
the lead.
Speaker 4 (01:33:46):
The Dodgers won two World Series in the last— I
don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:33:48):
You also won a national championship recently. He cheated! What
are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:33:53):
I guess the Dodgers might have cheated, too.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Let's see what Pablo Torre finds out about that now
that he's done with the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (01:34:00):
Oh, Monty, do you want to talk about the Clippers
at all in this show tonight?
Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
I mean, if you want to.
Speaker 4 (01:34:04):
Well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
I mean, sure. Stupid Clippers.
Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
Stupid Clippers.
Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
But all day. All day, baby. I am not giving
up my fandom, unlike some Clipper fans are. I'm going
to stick through it. This is part of it. You
think this is the worst as a Clippers fan?
Speaker 9 (01:34:17):
Ha! Not at all.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
It is a really good time to be a Clippers
fan because everything should be less expensive.
Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Oh, I literally said that. I can't wait to go
to a game for $ 12. Can't wait.
Speaker 1 (01:34:26):
Everything should be.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:34:28):
You'll be able to see everybody. Sit in the 100 Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:34:30):
Can't wait. This wasn't true. I moved to L.A. after
this was actually true.
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
Ironically enough, the Clippers are in their best stretch that
they've ever been in the 10 years I've been in L.A.
But I used to hear all the time people saying
how they would go... If they lived in L.A., they
would buy Clippers tickets to watch whoever they wanted to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:34:46):
They couldn't afford Lakers tickets.
Speaker 6 (01:34:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:34:48):
And now they've got that big, fancy new dome. Intuit dome.
Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
Intuit dome. Can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:34:53):
I wish Michigan would get into this game.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Coming up next, I'll tell you why it's important to
respect your opponents, which Michigan clearly isn't doing.
Speaker 4 (01:35:02):
Martin Weiss, Monster Boulogne, Fox Sports Radio.

Martin Weiss, Monty Bolaños here on a Fox Sports Football Saturday.
Speaker 6 (01:35:53):
Hello.
Speaker 2 (01:35:54):
You can join us on Twitter and get your two
cents in if you want to tweet the show. I'm
at Martin Weiss, Monty's at Monty Bolaños. So I have
a report, Monty.
Speaker 3 (01:36:04):
Give me the report.
Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
I texted with Mike Feld, who is locked in in
Western football, Western Michigan football for the uninitiated, who right
now lead the University of Michigan 9-7 in what is
the worst showing from a top 25 team thus far
in college football. He said to me, Western hosts Boise
(01:36:26):
in three weeks, and I've been trying to tell people
all summer that game is probably going to decide the
G6 playoff spot.
Speaker 4 (01:36:35):
Oh, okay. Now, we saw what Boise did.
Speaker 3 (01:36:37):
What week is this? Did you just say?
Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
They play in three weeks. In three weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
Okay, week four.
Speaker 1 (01:36:41):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
So we saw what Boise did to Oregon today, which
was give them a hell of a fight. And honestly,
if the ball bounced a few different ways, they.
Speaker 4 (01:36:51):
Could have won.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Yeah, they probably should have won.
Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
Now, say Michigan is somehow able to win this game,
that would be the same story of.
Speaker 4 (01:37:00):
In fact, the opposite.
Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
Michigan put up a hell of a fight against Western
Michigan and found a way to win, right? But still,
the ball could have bounced any type of way. This
game is not reflective of the score type of thing, right? Like,
Oregon scored 34 points, but yeah, okay. But they were
biting their fingernails for quite some.
Speaker 7 (01:37:16):
Time, right?
Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
There's more than a few surrender cobras in Eugene. And
that's what we're also seeing here. So when I hear
my buddy Mike Feld tell me, who is, again, Western
through and through, You can see his profile picture here.
Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
He's full. I hope that doesn't play. But you can see.
I mean, this is him at a West.
Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:37:39):
He's locked in.
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
Through and through.
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
And it's not necessarily. He's not saying it. He's being sensational.
Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
Do you know what I mean? He's not somebody who's
every year saying West is going to win the national championship.
Speaker 9 (01:37:53):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
Because he knows. It's just not realistic. Now, he did
also say, did I expect this?
Speaker 9 (01:37:58):
No.
Speaker 7 (01:37:58):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:37:59):
No, neither did I.
Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
Nobody did.
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
I remember watching before Jim Harbaugh got to Michigan and
there was like Michigan State under Mark D'Antoni. Yeah, Mark,
it's hard to get, you end up messing with Mark D'Antonio.
Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
There we go. Michigan State football, Mark D'Antonio.
Speaker 2 (01:38:21):
They had a 23-play drive in the Big Ten Championship game,
one of the first years it was there. Kirk Cousins
might have been the quarterback. Yeah, it might have been
Kirk Cousins, but it was way back when. And I
remember thinking, man, I can't wait till Michigan's able to
do that. Just go in the line of scrimmage and
move grown men against their will. And that is not
(01:38:43):
what's happening against a much smaller defensive line from Western Michigan.
Speaker 4 (01:38:47):
Kirk Cignetti said it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
To Jenny Taft pregame of his game against North Texas.
She asked him, how do you prepare for this type
of thing? And he said, it all begins with being
prepared and having the right mindset, which I think we do,
and respect for the opponent. We all saw Rutgers-UMass, right?
(01:39:10):
And now you would say that Cignetti, okay, maybe....
Speaker 4 (01:39:14):
Well, water your own grass a bit. You know what
I'm saying? Mind your own business.
Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
But there is some level of we all did see Rutgers-UMass,
and then, of course, they came out 1 by 40.
Speaker 4 (01:39:23):
So hard to argue with what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
But this, to me, feels like, and maybe I'm guilty
of it. As a Michigan fan who just sees Western
on schedule and says, well, all right, well, that should
be a 21-point margin and so on and so forth, maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:39:36):
I'm guilty of it as well.
Speaker 2 (01:39:38):
Because for him to say, I think Western and Boise
State are going to go toe-to-toe, I was watching with my.
Speaker 4 (01:39:43):
Jaw on the floor watching Boise State play Oregon.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think with Kurt Cignetti, his approach,
the way he looks at the game is hard to do.
I think what you and I do of... jumping in
on the excitement for our team is the normal thing
to do to come into it feeling like this is
(01:40:06):
going to be an easier game if we do the
right x's and o's if we handle our game plan
correctly this should be an easy game i feel like
that's normal that is how almost every single person probably
looks at their team going into a situation like this
kurt signetti How many times do we see, did we
(01:40:27):
see last year, Indiana score or win, and Kurt Cignetti
looked exactly the same on the sideline?
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
He was doing a little dance in the day, but
to your point, he's very much, but he's got what
you would call RBF.
Speaker 3 (01:40:44):
Yes, exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:40:45):
At all times. He's not very happy.
Speaker 3 (01:40:46):
He's not very, and like, he's not easily impressed. And
that is, I think, a hard mentality to keep through
and through. And he does it so well, which is
so great. It's great for his team because they know.
even if we win by 60 I don't know if
I've impressed the coach and so they're all always striving
(01:41:07):
to do it again or to be better even if
they blew out a team they're always striving to be
a little bit better because he's not easily impressed that
is a hard thing to keep at all times like
I give him credit for that it's not easy to
stay like that but hey If it brings out the
best in your team.
Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
And he's not one in the same.
Speaker 7 (01:41:28):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
But it reminds me a lot of Nick Saban.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
To me, you can kind of tell that he's from
the Nick Saban tree in that Saban's famous for saying
that good news for your team is rat poison and
things of that nature and setting a standard that he follows.
Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
As opposed to anything else. I know we're two minutes early.
I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
I cannot continue to watch the game. I'm about to
kick it to Steve to save myself, unless you have
anything more to say.
Speaker 3 (01:42:01):
No, let's go to Steve to say.
Speaker 4 (01:42:03):
I'm sorry, but.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
It's, I know, but it's the third and 12 and
I'm just sitting here watching them run the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:42:08):
They're good. They're going to convert this fourth to seven.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
I believe they have more running plays than Michigan has plays.
Speaker 4 (01:42:14):
Why would you not go for it?
Speaker 2 (01:42:16):
Like, if you're Western Michigan, why would you not go
for it right here on fourth to seven with three
minutes left?
Speaker 4 (01:42:21):
You're down. You're up two. But you have Michigan has
a point. You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
Actually, that's probably why, because Michigan has run no plays
and has no yards since the first drive of the
freaking game.
Speaker 3 (01:42:31):
This is like Bill Belichick.
Speaker 4 (01:42:33):
Bill Belichick last year. Remember?
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
North Carolina comes out and everything feels good. It's like, man,
this team might win the ACC. And then by halftime,
it's like, wait, what else is on?
Speaker 1 (01:42:43):
That's actually what the people in the stadium were saying.
If you saw the empties by the third quarter. This game,
you mentioned it's a new coach after all those years
at Utah. Kyle Whittingham is in his first game running Michigan.
This is reminding me of, do you remember... Chip Kelly's
first game as the Oregon head coach, 2009. They were losing.
(01:43:06):
their opener at Boise state 19, nothing and looking truly
awful and lost 19 to eight. And one of the
boosters who was just so ready to boo the team
off the field still hadn't got it out of the system.
Actually wrote chip Kelly, a letter said, I spent this
much on traveling to Idaho to see this game. And
(01:43:26):
I spent this much on tickets and this much on
hotel and everything. And you guys put on that performance.
And the story goes that Chip Kelly actually looked at
those numbers in the letter and refunded the fan his money.
Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:43:41):
It was that bad an opening.
Speaker 4 (01:43:42):
Hey, Kyle Whittingham, pull out the visa. We take Amex
over here.
Speaker 1 (01:43:50):
So we've got about three minutes to go. Western Michigan
is leading at 16th ranked Michigan, 9-7. And the visitors,
the Broncos, took the lead. On a field goal of
39 yards that capped a 20-play drive that lasted 13
minutes and 40 seconds. Right now at eighth-ranked Texas A & M,
(01:44:13):
it's 50-0. Aggies over Missouri State with under four minutes
to go. BYU ranked 14th, leads 56-7 against Utah Tech.
End of one quarter at 11th-ranked LSU, home team now
up 17-3 against Clemson, including a pick six. We had
earlier blowout wins for Ohio State and Georgia, for Texas
(01:44:34):
and Indiana. No. 2 Oregon came back at home to
beat Boise State 34-27. Among the many other games, Vanderbilt
was only up at the half 15-9 and beat Austin
Peay 28-9. Right now it's Virginia Tech 73-0 over VMI
and still 10 minutes left in that game. South Florida
(01:44:55):
led 6-3 in the fourth quarter against Florida International. South
Florida wins 19-9. In baseball, Brewers at Reds had a
long rain delay in the fourth. They're only in the
bottom of the fifth inning, tied at two. Diamondbacks have
taken the lead. It's 4-3 at Houston, now bottom of
the tenth inning. Nationals now lead at the Dodgers 3-2
(01:45:15):
in the top of the fifth. LADH Shohei Otani out
for a third straight game due to his injuries. Tampa
Bay in 10 innings, won at Texas 6-3. Junior Caminero,
his 38th homer. Philadelphia got Kyle Schwarber's 41st homer. Phil's
beat Atlanta 4-2. Road wins for the Cubs and Boston.
Road wins for Detroit, Minnesota, and Toronto. Coco Gauff won
(01:45:37):
her third round match at the U.S. Open. Tyler Redeker
in the NASCAR pole at Darlington. Meanwhile, at 16th ranked Michigan,
we are under two minutes to play. 9-7, visiting Western
Michigan in a lead back to you. Now, Steve, it's over.
Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
There may be two minutes on the clock, but if
this stands, it is over. As Bryce Underwood, apparently he's
just fumbled. I thought he was down. We'll see a
good replay here.
Speaker 4 (01:46:02):
Oh, that ball is all the way out. This game's over.
Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
The Kyle Whittingham era starts with a loss, unless there
is a miraculous turn of events in the next 101
minutes and 50 seconds.
Speaker 9 (01:46:14):
And yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:46:15):
You mean miraculous like a long pass to Michael Westbrook
or something like that.
Speaker 4 (01:46:20):
You know, Steve.
Speaker 1 (01:46:20):
It's another Michigan reference.
Speaker 2 (01:46:22):
At this rate, a pass completion in general would be
a miracle. But I understand what you're trying. I'm just all,
it's just so nasty.
Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
So Bryce Underwood's going to finish with under 100 yards passing.
No TD passes, one interception, one fumble.
Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
And not only one interception, but it should have been
a pick six. This game should not be a one-score
game here.
Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
And there's also what you mentioned, the face mask that
was not called after the very long drive. It should
have been a first and goal for the visitors right
after that, taking up maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
To a 15-minute drive. Maybe that play, maybe that drive,
then it takes up another minute and 50 seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:47:04):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
Right? Because that's really what I think probably was the killer,
what I would have been, you know, really upset about
as a Western fan in that time is the ability
to take more time off the clock as I'm taking
the lead.
Speaker 4 (01:47:16):
But you know what? That only matters if you're playing
a competent football team on the other side. Clearly not.
Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
This team is from the Mac conference, which I repeat
has ball state, for example. getting paid $ 1. 9 million today
to lose at Ohio State. And they're not the only,
hardly the only team in that conference that is taking
big paydays for road games such as this and expected losses.
Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
Make no mistake about it. This is the worst game
you'll see all weekend by a ranked team. People want
to laugh about Rutgers and UMass.
Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
Rutgers is supposed to stink.
Speaker 6 (01:47:53):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:47:53):
Rutgers is supposed to be bad.
Speaker 3 (01:47:55):
And they scored more points.
Speaker 4 (01:47:57):
But Rutgers is supposed to be bad.
Speaker 2 (01:47:59):
That was a game back and forth, and they didn't
really have a shot once you saw UMass was moving
the ball. But UMass, you know, a team that hadn't
won a game in God knows how long.
Speaker 3 (01:48:08):
677 days.
Speaker 4 (01:48:09):
Damn.
Speaker 9 (01:48:12):
Western Michigan's getting 1.5 mil for this one. Nice. Oh,
my goodness.
Speaker 4 (01:48:15):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (01:48:16):
What a win.
Speaker 4 (01:48:17):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (01:48:18):
I don't believe Michigan is getting. that kind of cash
for the Oklahoma date next weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:48:22):
They should have gotten more. You know, Bryce Hunterwood should
give them the money.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
Give them part of the 10 million.
Speaker 4 (01:48:28):
I'll just say it.
Speaker 6 (01:48:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:48:29):
I'd rather. Western, man. Golly. Especially.
Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
And this is what is so disheartening. And this is why, though.
Because this is why people want to make the point.
of salary caps. That's not real.
Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
Theoretically, there was one per athletic department when this whole
NIL thing started.
Speaker 8 (01:48:48):
$ 10 million, $ 10 million, $ 10 million.
Speaker 4 (01:48:52):
20 mil, they said. But it's true of sports.
Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
You tell me that we need a salary cap or
it's not going to be competitive, blah, blah, blah.
Speaker 4 (01:49:00):
I hear you.
Speaker 2 (01:49:01):
However, I watched the Mets spend a billion dollars and suck.
Speaker 1 (01:49:06):
Missed the playoffs entirely.
Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
I watched Michigan spend a billion dollars and stink.
Speaker 4 (01:49:12):
I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
It's not like the Angels haven't spent over the years.
We talked last weekend's show about them. This is Trout's
whole career. They're not going to win a single playoff game.
Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Spending doesn't mean anything. Giants 9, Mets 5 today. I'm
sure Juan Soto's check cleared.
Speaker 4 (01:49:31):
This is ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:49:32):
They got a turnover cowboy hat for Western Michigan. We're
never supposed to see that when they.
Speaker 4 (01:49:39):
Play in Michigan.
Speaker 5 (01:49:40):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
And they brought it out really early, by the way.
Speaker 4 (01:49:43):
Well, that's because they had a turnover in the first half.
Speaker 1 (01:49:46):
You know, I mentioned last night it was Oklahoma 51-0
over UTEP. Those are the next two opponents for the
Michigan Wolverines. So if things don't go well next weekend,
there's always the Miners in a couple weeks.
Speaker 9 (01:49:59):
Maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
Steve, I mean, just watching this.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
I mean, again, and to be fair, there's been a
promo running all day of Jonas Knox saying, I'm not
going to go too far with this Rutgers-UMass thing. I'm
going to revisit it in.
Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
Three weeks, right?
Speaker 1 (01:50:15):
To have the season play out a bit.
Speaker 4 (01:50:17):
UMass might be really good. Who knows? Do you know
who their starting right guard is?
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
No, neither does anybody else because the whole world transfers
everywhere else all the time.
Speaker 4 (01:50:26):
You got to figure out who's playing where.
Speaker 1 (01:50:28):
I can't keep track of quarterbacks, much less guards in
college football now.
Speaker 4 (01:50:32):
Yeah, Rocco Beck at Penn State. You look good. You know,
that's a fun game.
Speaker 1 (01:50:37):
Isn't that about 30 Iowa State guys on Penn State now?
Speaker 4 (01:50:40):
I'm just thinking about it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
Just off the top of my head, quarterbacks who transferred
started their first game who looked significantly better than Bryce
Underwood today.
Speaker 4 (01:50:48):
That'd be Josh Hoover for Indiana. Certainly. He cost less
than $ 10 million, I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (01:50:54):
Rocco Becht also had four touchdown passes today.
Speaker 4 (01:50:56):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
Arch.
Speaker 9 (01:50:58):
Arch.
Speaker 4 (01:50:59):
Arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
Yeah. Arch Manning. He had a crazy game today. Dante
Moore stayed.
Speaker 4 (01:51:05):
Maybe that's a problem. Did these Western players come from Western?
Who knows? I don't know. But I hope they score
another touchdown. They deserve it.
Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
They're only in field goal range. If Michigan can hold
them to 12-7.
Speaker 4 (01:51:16):
Steve.
Speaker 1 (01:51:16):
There's 92 seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:51:21):
Left in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
There could be 92 minutes left in this game. Michigan
is not going to get more than three first downs.
Michigan might not get more than three first downs in
the next two weeks. Watching this, I guess Oklahoma, Brent
Venables has got that contract.
Speaker 4 (01:51:37):
Are you kidding me? They're going to get crushed.
Speaker 1 (01:51:40):
And they just tackled a runner inbounds, which makes Michigan spend,
I think that's the last time out.
Speaker 6 (01:51:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
Just let it go. Just give up. It's going to
be better than this. Clemson over here. They're trying to
give up 17 to three.
Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
Yeah, that quickly got away from them quickly.
Speaker 4 (01:51:58):
So you can't even hate watch LSU.
Speaker 3 (01:52:00):
No, you can't. Damn it, Clemson.
Speaker 1 (01:52:04):
So you're saying the most hated man in college football.
There's a new nominee in your mind.
Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
I know this in the Midwest right now, especially Pat
Fitzgerald getting the win against Toledo.
Speaker 4 (01:52:15):
And I know it wasn't good.
Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
But Michigan state, they were trailing early fourth last night.
Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
But did you hear him at the post game presser?
It was like, that's how, I mean, I'm sure this
is what I do. I was ridiculous, but it's the
idea that he's like.
Speaker 4 (01:52:27):
We're building something. We're building. So it's going to be good.
We're coming up from the bottom.
Speaker 2 (01:52:30):
This team two years ago was winning a net, won
a national championship. And I have not enjoyed watching a
single game since really.
Speaker 4 (01:52:38):
There's, what good has there been? What good has there been?
Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
People ask, I, Monty, I got people texting me, why
is Ward Manuel stepping down to Michigan AD?
Speaker 4 (01:52:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
Maybe every time they win a championship, the coach runs
for greener pastures immediately. How is it that in the
last three seasons, Michigan Athletics has had one, two of
the three biggest championships you can win, football and basketball,
and the head coach didn't stay around for a week after?
Speaker 1 (01:53:08):
So you're saying you did not enjoy them beating Michigan
State last year?
Speaker 4 (01:53:12):
Sometimes those are things you're supposed to do. You're supposed
to beat Michigan State.
Speaker 3 (01:53:16):
Not easily impressed.
Speaker 1 (01:53:18):
But getting blitzed to USC and the Ohio State game
and didn't beat Oklahoma last year.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Sincerely, it was the USC game where I was like, oh,
this team stinks. Like, all due respect to Southern California,
but when you were getting put manhandled on the offensive
and defensive lines by a Lincoln-Riley team.
Speaker 4 (01:53:38):
You got to get out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
That was King Miller, 150 yards rushing, the nephew of Dr. Dre,
starring at the Coliseum last year.
Speaker 4 (01:53:47):
You know, I played AAU basketball with Dr. Not Dr. Dre. Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:53:53):
That was almost news.
Speaker 4 (01:53:55):
You said Miller, and it made me think of Romeo.
Speaker 1 (01:53:57):
He used to play.
Speaker 4 (01:53:59):
I played AAU basketball against several times.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
Little Romeo?
Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:54:04):
Do you beat him?
Speaker 4 (01:54:06):
I mean, we played your team. We played enough that
we want some.
Speaker 1 (01:54:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
Like we were in this. We played a lot. It
was not a one off.
Speaker 9 (01:54:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:54:14):
Third and two for Western Michigan with one minute and
24 seconds left.
Speaker 5 (01:54:22):
Oh, my God. You've got to be kidding me. They've
bumbled a snap. Offense recovered. The ball's out. Offense recovers.
And what just has to be the root. Like, that
was rude. Because, honestly, it looked intentional.
Speaker 4 (01:54:38):
I was going to say. Like, if you had told
me that they were trying to run the stat, like,
some play. Fumble Rooski. Fumble Rooski. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
The trick, the Fumble Rooski. If you had told me
they were trying to do that, I would have said, yep,
probably so.
Speaker 1 (01:54:49):
So what really Michigan needs is an ending like, you know,
you pick that up and you run 90 yards the
other way.
Speaker 5 (01:54:56):
It's like the— Jordan Davis, was it, last year with
the Eagles?
Speaker 1 (01:54:59):
The punt block. That wasn't that many years ago. The
pump block with Michigan State, right?
Speaker 4 (01:55:04):
Oh, thanks, Steve. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:55:06):
It's that kind of ending. It's needed at this point.
Speaker 4 (01:55:08):
Yeah, yeah, it would be. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:55:10):
Jalen Watts Jackson!
Speaker 4 (01:55:12):
Oh, we're in trouble with the snap!
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Wow! That's Gus Johnson in person.
Speaker 4 (01:55:17):
No, it was Sean McDonald. Oh, okay.
Speaker 6 (01:55:19):
Who.
Speaker 1 (01:55:20):
Can I just say it sounded a bit more like
Gus Johnson?
Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
I can't get the crack. Oh, we're in trouble with
the snap!
Speaker 1 (01:55:25):
Well, you can probably do it once.
Speaker 4 (01:55:27):
But I would say.
Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
Sean McDonough, he's easily the kiss of death. If he's
calling a game, they're losing. He's probably calling this game.
Coming up next, we'll dive into more Big Ten football.
Speaker 1 (01:55:40):
Your team's got 30 seconds to go. Western Michigan settling
for a field goal. It's only going to be 12-7.
One Hail Mary. Did you not see the Illinois game?
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
I think this is what the kids call trolling.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
No, this would be the definition of a Hail Mary
because it would take divine intervention.
Speaker 4 (01:55:57):
Sincerely.
Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
You know how that term came about? Roger Stahlbach said, no, no.
Speaker 4 (01:56:03):
Hail Mary.
Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
Oh, Hail Mary. I was like, what, Divine Intervention?
Speaker 4 (01:56:06):
Roger Stahlbach said, I'll guess Christmas.
Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
He threw the ball and said a Hail Mary.
Speaker 3 (01:56:13):
As he's throwing, he said the prayer.
Speaker 9 (01:56:17):
Boom.
Speaker 4 (01:56:17):
Cowboys caught the touchdown pass. Wow. That's where Hail Mary was.
Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
Yeah, he was asked afterwards, how do you explain the
long pass to win the game? And he said, yeah,
ever since it's been that label.
Speaker 4 (01:56:26):
Hope Bryce Underwood went to church.
Speaker 2 (01:56:28):

Coming to you live, Fox Sports Radio. Martin Weiss, Mossy
Bolaños here. Tyler Glass now on his 89th pitch of
the Dodgers trail three to two.
Speaker 3 (01:57:00):
In the sixth inning.
Speaker 4 (01:57:02):
Still time.
Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
Still time. Still time.
Speaker 6 (01:57:04):
But.
Speaker 4 (01:57:05):
With nine seconds left in this.
Speaker 3 (01:57:07):
You don't have a lot of time.
Speaker 4 (01:57:08):
Well, also, by my count, this is going to be
the first top 25 team to lose. This season. So
that's fun.
Speaker 2 (01:57:18):
And if, in fact, they do score a touchdown in
this nine seconds, it reminds me of the World Cup, Monsi.
Speaker 4 (01:57:24):
Well, you know how, like. Some wins were draws.
Speaker 3 (01:57:27):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:57:27):
Some wins, you know, some draws were losses.
Speaker 6 (01:57:30):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:57:31):
This is at best a draw.
Speaker 3 (01:57:32):
Yeah, and not a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:57:35):
There's no way to paint this as a good outing
for anybody but Western Michigan, no matter what happens in
the next nine seconds of this game. I will say,
I know I've dominated this with Michigan talk. Just know this, Monsey.
Clemson's going to have about right. Clemson's going to have
(01:57:57):
about seven to nine players get drafted in this year's
NFL draft, and they're going to lose five to six games.
Speaker 5 (01:58:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Yeah, I think Dabo, he still obviously has the ability
to get talent. in the transfer portal era, but just
when they go up against other high-level teams, it's just
not working.
Speaker 4 (01:58:17):
24-3, LSU the lead over Clemson in the third quarter.
Western Michigan victorious over, oh, they're going to review the
final play. I can't imagine what for.
Speaker 3 (01:58:29):
Yeah, because that was a bad throw. He didn't even
throw it in.
Speaker 4 (01:58:32):
It was not.
Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
Bryce Underwood threw a Hail Mary that landed just about
out of the field of play.
Speaker 3 (01:58:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:58:39):
So the play is under review just to add injury
to insult.
Speaker 3 (01:58:44):
Yep, that's exactly what's going on.
Speaker 4 (01:58:45):
I don't know what they're looking at. Are they looking
to add another second onto the clock here?
Speaker 3 (01:58:49):
For what? Like you said, for what is the purpose
of this?
Speaker 4 (01:58:54):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
Yeah, there's no time left on the clock, and that
would have been Bryce Underwood's third interception had, The defender
would have been able to land inbounds.
Speaker 4 (01:59:02):
So.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
It's only week one.
Speaker 4 (01:59:04):
Our second interception, third turnover.
Speaker 3 (01:59:06):
So do they fall out of the top 25?
Speaker 4 (01:59:08):
That's the problem. We have to continue to play football games. Abso-freaking-lutely.
Are you kidding me? I don't know. If they don't. Yes, absolutely.
They shouldn't even be in the under-receiving votes category. After this?
Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
You're not telling me this is the 30th best team
in college football?
Speaker 4 (01:59:25):
No chance.
Speaker 3 (01:59:25):
There's no way.
Speaker 4 (01:59:26):
They shouldn't, no.
Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
I just have seen some teams not drop out the
way that they should when they lose. I've seen it
in the past.
Speaker 4 (01:59:34):
28-point favorites.
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
Yeah, no, it's bad.
Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
Tell you, the last football game that I enjoyed watching
with the University of Michigan was the national championship.
Speaker 4 (01:59:45):
I know. Oh, repeat third down?
Speaker 3 (01:59:47):
Repeat.
Speaker 9 (01:59:49):
Why?
Speaker 2 (01:59:50):
One untimed down is a defensive penalty. Oh, one second
left on the clock. I don't know how they were
able to determine that.
Speaker 4 (01:59:58):
Also, why? I mean, it's the big house at home cooking.
But also why?
Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
You can win a game in one second. Now, Michigan won't. But, yeah,
I don't know how they figured that there's supposed to
be one second left on this clock as Michigan is
about to lose again to Western Michigan. If you're listening

be sure to search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get
those podcasts. Right after the show, Today's podcast will be posted.

Speaker 4 (02:00:33):
We get off the air. There's been a lot made
about USC's attendance, Monsi.
Speaker 3 (02:00:37):
Yeah, all over my feed.
Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
Yeah, I think it's a big nine issue, but then
I saw some of the other schools around the country.
Speaker 4 (02:00:44):
And I think, you know, it's hot as hell outside.
Speaker 3 (02:00:48):
It is really warm.
Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
We're not talking just enough about how hot it really is.
Signetti said, or Jenny Taft reported, it was like 152
at times feeling off the field.
Speaker 4 (02:01:01):
Which doesn't even sound real.
Speaker 3 (02:01:03):
No, I didn't know it could be that high.
Speaker 4 (02:01:04):
You know, right. Is that eligible?
Speaker 3 (02:01:07):
Can you do that? Can you play? Is this legal?
Speaker 4 (02:01:10):
And to the point, can you play?
Speaker 3 (02:01:13):
No.
Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
North Texas' quarterback left the game with cramps. And that's
really where the game kind of turned for North Texas.
Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
In that moment when he did leave the game.
Speaker 2 (02:01:21):
With cramps, and they were able to, Indiana able to
open up 21 unanswered in the fourth quarter. That's what
you expect to see out of a defending national champion.
Not what you've seen out of Michigan since they won
the national championship. They've done everything but defend it.
Speaker 4 (02:01:35):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (02:01:36):
I think it's a big non-story when it comes to
that USC game. I don't know what they look like
because they played again today, yesterday?
Speaker 4 (02:01:42):
Yeah, there were more people there, but it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (02:01:44):
But it wasn't packed. But I've been to SC games
a few times, and I'm not a fan, so I've
stayed inside.
Speaker 4 (02:01:51):
Get out.
Speaker 2 (02:01:52):
You know, Western Michigan, I feel sorry for you. Michigan
just won that game on that touchdown pass. Michigan's going
to go 1-0. And I'll tell you what, it's the
worst 1-0 I've ever seen in my entire freaking life.
Speaker 3 (02:02:03):
I would be pissed.
Speaker 4 (02:02:05):
I told you you could win a game one second left.
Speaker 3 (02:02:07):
But there was another one second left. We saw it.
Speaker 4 (02:02:10):
I don't know how they ended up with one second
left on the clock. Oh, no. Western Michigan just got hosed.
Speaker 2 (02:02:15):
I'm sure that Aaron Torres and Jason Martin will be
all over that because that is the best college football
wrap-up show in America.
Speaker 4 (02:02:20):
They're ready for week one, I'm sure, and this is
going to be the lead. That was terrible. What a joke.
Speaker 3 (02:02:24):
That's terrible.
