Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, good morning, good morning, good morning, A happy happy Saturday,
a Fox Sports Saturday August edition.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is Project.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Nil Danny de Bernardinas Athletic Director extraordinaire. I'm Anthony Gargana
from the Fellas, hanging out on a getting ready because
my man, we.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Got lots to get to the top.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Twenty five is out the college which I want to
get to.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Congress is ever close.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I mean, the NCAA is begging Congress to get through it.
And there's a lot of different stuff going on in
the Save the College Sports Act that we gotta get to.
Good morning, mister Athletic director.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yo, what's going on? Cause how we doing? Brother?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
There he is? How was your night?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
It was good? Man? Yeah, I'm crazy, you know, I'm
just here with the family. Uh yeah, it was helping out.
It was good. It went well.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Man, you are a good man, brother, You are? You are?
You are?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
That the lotstick do? Because by the way, when do
you go back to school? Because we already, like you know,
it's August and it's already seven days into it.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Pretty soon.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
We just had the epic one of the greatest Hall
of Fame games.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Ever, it's all buddy.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Oh, I know. I mean, you're one of the I
would say, one of the few people I know that
gets hyped for the Hall of Fame game, which I love.
I love that about you, Mann, I love that you
are excited for the first preseason football game in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
It was a great game. Yes, Carson Beck, Yes, Haines
King slinging it.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I usually get mocked, but I got to have the
last laugh this week because after all the all the
ridicule I took on Thursday leading into.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
The game, it was a great cave like. It was
just a I applaud.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
It was all Carolina Irish and there.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Was Mike Tirico at the end of the game. King
of a night.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Now it was a shootout thirty three thirty great game.
Come back, yeah, man, I mean football's back, brother. I know,
I know it gets you going. So I was happy
to see that morph show for you. I didn't really
have much interest in the game, but I was happy
that I knew that you'd be excited about it.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Where do you when is it?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
So?

Speaker 1 (02:49):
When does the ad go really back to work?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
We're coming back pretty strong, uh like next week I'm
actually in meetings with the school, so like we're pretty
much back at it. The sports side of things doesn't
start off for another like week and a half though,
I got about ten days before sports officially start up.
But there's a lot of preparation to make sure everything's

(03:13):
lined up, make sure we're in line, and that we're
checking all the boxes and making sure we're registering kids.
And you know, this is like the logistical side of
the job where you know you need make sure coaches
are all cleared, make sure that all the student athletes
have the physicals that they're queered. You know, we do
concussion baseline testing and a lot of Jody stuff, a

(03:36):
lot of baseline stuff with the strength and conditioning team
in our school, and then also work on our trainer.
So we're just making sure everyone's right in that aspect
and that's kind of a little bit busy work right now.
And then we're a tryouts. Brother, we're rocking. So I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
My boys just went through their they just went to
their pediatrician to get their physicals.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, man, so they all.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
You know, you got to get the pre football physicals.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, we gotta be we gotta make sure they're cleared.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
You know.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, yeah, make sure they're they're hard right, they're you know,
they're they're in a good spot.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
We There's a lot of things that have been haddening
over the years, but the biggest improvement has been around,
uh the cardiac stuff because of uh.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yes Scott forbid. Yes.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, so part of the physical form for athletics has
really grown in, uh in the cardiac area, which has
been really cool to see. And you know, just making
sure kids are safe we can get out there, make
sure they're you know, uh covered. At my schools, I
try to make sure we do hard tests for all
student athletes every year as well, like a little bigger
thing where we do uh you know, we check on
we do you know, cardiac testing for all kids. We

(04:45):
have a group come in and uh, you know, make
sure everyone's good.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
That's that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Now, when when practice starts, let's say football start for
you guys, well you go, will you be at practice,
you know, walk up the sidelines.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
I check on all of them. Yeah, I check on
all of them. The first week I bounced around a lot,
so I make sure. Yeah, I like to watch man. Yeah,
I'm just there to you know, make sure things are
running smooth. But and I'm not trying to be over
I'm not a micromanager, but I do love being around it.
So I let my coaching not like, look I'm not
I'm not nitpicking here. I'm just I just want to
be around it. So I just I'll bounced around in

(05:23):
different practices. The first couple of weeks, you know, get
to see the kids. You know, there's new kids coming in,
you know, whether it be you know, upper school kids
coming in to ninth grade or you know, just kids
who transferred in or you know, different things. So like
really just trying to be around and start building those relationships.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
That's awesome, dude, like it is, man loud man, it's back,
all right. We got a lot to get to with
with college and the anarchy. First of all, DNC double
as bagging, all right, begging. They're just gravel to Congress

(06:02):
to put us back in charge.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, they needed please.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Mister congressman, please put us back in charge. Mister Congressman.
We can't take all these lawsuits. We can't take the
add or key, mister congressman.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Please, they can't. They need it, man, I mean they
lose it every turn. They can't have anything stick right now. No,
I mean any ruling they make see you later, it
is not sticking.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Man.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
They are getting pummeled at every turn, at every decision
they've made. So their hands are up in the air
right now saying that we need help, please come regulate
this for us, and the Nancy DOAA for me for
a long time is doing it the wrong way. I
feel like now they're trying to make some rules that
make sense. But it's kind of like the bull who

(06:51):
cried wolf right. They had plenty of time to do
it and they didn't and uh.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, and they had no public support. I mean, yeah,
it's funny. I view it the same way, which is
I look at him and I and I literally I
despise them. I've always despised that governing body right because
I felt it was unfair.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I felt it was nitpicky, like what they would do.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
To athletes forgetting, you know, somebody buying in the family
of flight and all this other nonsense holier than thou,
whether they're just collect and check after check.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
It was disgrace.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
I mean, quite frankly, I want that thing to blow up,
and I hate that organization. Because I think it's the
height of hypocrisy. I think they got sucked into greed,
they were sucked into a power trip, and I think
it needs a new governing body. College needs a new

(07:47):
governing body that's not called the NCAA.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, I agree. I mean I know, I'm close friends
with a college coach who they did. They kind of
just looked into the program over something else and he
got suspended for I think six or eight games because
he bought three kids dinner.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
That's my point.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Like they found out that, like he bought dinner a
few times for kids, and they suspended them. And this
is a couple of years ago, right, this is even
post nil error and they were suspending people. So like
they're a pretty hypocritical long term, you know, over the years.
And now, look, I do agree with some of the

(08:28):
rules they're trying to make and some of the stants
are trying to make, but it's like, yoh, it's a
little too late. You had all the time where you're
all the power. Now you know you're losing some power
and you're and you're crying about it, and not that's saying,
you know, everything should get overturned, but it's like, hey, man,
you guys had plenty of opportunities in the past.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Dude, that's exactly the point. And you know they were
they were the height of power and greed and.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
The whole thing.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
And and you know, it still cracks me up because
when you look at the coaches that and I under
understand how the anarchy is tough on to run a program,
for coachs to run a program, but you know, like
it's like, please spare us the We're gonna go cry

(09:13):
for for you guys.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Yeah, I know, I look, I agree, I completely agree. Man,
it's uh yeah, it's it's not right. I'm excited to
see how it shakes out. And I mean we we
talk about it every week. We're beating the drum here,
but like it's history, man, and we we when we
started the show, we thought would be a different angle
and we'd have a continue you know, we'd have to

(09:36):
pivot because we'd run out to talk about. We have
never run out of stuff to talk about. Every week
they're given us there's a new rule, there's some new
legislation that's happening, there's a core case that happened. Uh,
Congress is getting involved, like it is every week there's
something new, and uh, it's just we're in a wild time, man.
It's a we're in history. Like we always say, this

(09:58):
is history right now.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
It is. It's one of the most fascinating periods. So
let's get in.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Speaking of periods, there's one hundred and eighty day rule
that nobody's talking about, all right, So when we're talking
about that legislation and to Save the College Sports Act,
right there is a bill that's designed to discourage schools
from jumping conferences by requiring a school leaving one power

(10:28):
conference to wait five years as an independent before joining
another power conference, which is a huge deterrent.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
But there's another provision.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
If the legislation becomes law with this amendment in tact,
schools would have approximately one hundred and eighty days to
notify their conference that they're leaving before the new restrictions
take into effects. So what does that mean for the
SEC in the past and the Big Ten?

Speaker 1 (11:01):
What do we talk about?

Speaker 2 (11:03):
This has been one of our things that we've talked
about for you know, since we started the show, that
there would be two super conferences, the Big Ten and
the SEC, that football would become one super conference. Those
two conferences being like the NFC and the AFC. So

(11:28):
imagine if you're Florida State, if you're Clemson, Miami, North Carolina,
and you flirted with the idea of leaving before, well,
now this is your impetus to do.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
So yeah, I mean, if I'm the ACEC commissioner, I'm
doing everything. I kind of get that out of the
bill everything I can, because your conference is dead if
this passes. If you get these guys a window, it
means you're forcing her hand and they're gonna jump. I mean,
the big ten in SEC are just gonna all the

(12:04):
top teams. Those other conferences are toast, they're falling there,
they're going a wayside. And you're right, it's gonna be
the NFC and AFC, and we're gonna have two power conferences,
I mean to yeh, and they're gonna fight it out,
and I don't know what they'll look like as far
as games and how you play everybody, right, there's gonna
have to be East and West.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
But oh well, there's gonna be you know, you think
about it, four divisions. Yeah, you'll have four big divisions.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
You maybe with the roadway game, Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know you're gonna I mean, you just have so
many teams that you're gonna have to You're gonna have
to make it, you know, four divisions of whatever it's
gonna be, because.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
I mean you can you're looking at what I mean
you could.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
You could probably have sixty seventy teams in this in
the between the two conferences.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Now my question to you, does your Irish make the
jump if this goes through and there's that one hundred
and eighty day spot to jump in?

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, I think you got it.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah, right, that's it.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
I think I think now you've got to go into
Big ten and be done.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Yeah. I mean they should have been in the Big Ten.
I mean I personally believe that. But yeah, I think
this will be the final straw to push the Irish
into a conference for football and be a part of
the Big Ten.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah, and I agree with it.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
They's all along should have been that, and now's the
time because here's the thing. If this thing comes about
like we think it's going to come about, you know,
you gotta be in one of those two conferences if
you're going to play football.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
That's just it.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
And what will happen is just like we said this, Dan,
like this is something I could see it like it
was a newspaper headline in my head, like it was
a headline on a Monday, and I could see it.
I could see these two, these two this one super
conference with or one super league with the two conferences

(14:07):
and with all the power, and this is gonna be football.
And then there's gonna be a secondary league that's gonna
be like you know, if if this super league is
the A League, there's gonna be a B league just
like European soccer. Yeah, no, model, there'll be a C.

(14:28):
There'll be a B and there'll be a C like
all those teams like think about it. You got you
know the academies in Colorado State and Temple and Tulane
and all those schools that yeah, all the Max and
all those schools that you're not gonna you're not gonna

(14:49):
be in part.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Of it with the big in the Big League.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
That's actually a fun secondary league Like that's that and
and then you know if you're then there's like a
true delineation, right like now you got all right, this
is my super league, this is my my B league,
and you know it's kind of crystallized this is the

(15:12):
rules for the B League. This is the money that's
being spent for the B League. And by the way,
just because you're the B League doesn't mean like you're
not going to get TV money because people are still
gonna go watch you know, the Air Force playing Colorado State.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah, no, for sure. I mean it's gonna be very interesting.
I think there needs to be a lot of planning,
Like I think there needs to be a runway when
this comes out. I don't think I know it's one
hundred and eighty days are saying to jump conferences or
do for the following year, but I think they need
to think proactively long term, like we've talked about and

(15:48):
how these conferences are gonna work. You can't just we
we got to learn from Hallie and I l work
where we just said you can pay kids and not
put guardrails around it. I know they're putting guardrails, but
we also have to plan and have have an idea
of what this could look like. So there's some parameters
around it, because again, people will find the gray areas,
people find the loopholes, and then we're back in a

(16:09):
similar situation. Right, So I love it. I think it's great.
I think, I think you know this has been a
long time coming. But I also believe they I don't
want to making the same mistake we made last time,
and there will be guardrails. The part of this bill
is to have guardrails. But my point is you got
to think long term and play it out in our heads,

(16:31):
like what it could look like and how teams can
work around it and how we'll all fox together, and
then we can kind of make a plan based around that.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
So I'd be curious you as an athletic director, what
would what would be?

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Now? Again, here's the here's the issue.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
I'm talking about it with the scope of through the
lens of football.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
I mean, I guess it works the same way in basketball.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, I don't know if I don't think it will
happen to level well in football.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Right because I mean, the Big Twelve is a great
basketball conference.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Oh for sure. No, I mean it's great. There's so
many really strong conferences in basketball that I think, I
don't know if I see it happen in the scheduled
There's so many more games, right, A lot of teams
play each other already. There's a lot of these offseason
tournaments that help you financially for being a part of it.
So I don't know. I don't think it will. This
will have the impact that obviously it's going to have

(17:29):
in football.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
So what does it mean for say Kansas, right, like,
because it is Kansas going to get in? Like basketball
it matters and football it's it's sometimes e yeah, sometimes
it's it's you know, you go all right, and then
you know, for the most part, they are what they are.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
But what does that mean? That means they're in the
B League but they're in a league in basketball?

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Yeah, yeah, I'm again I'm trying to think, like I
haven't put them enough thought into it, but I would
love for them to be proactive with that thought, like
how does that look? And like how are they how
is it going to affect these teams that are trying
to be be in something A and other? How how
is it looking? And they stay in a conference for
some sports but not all sports?

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Right?

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Like are we gonna evaluate it by sport? Like me
and you always talk about or are we going to
have general rules?

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Right?

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Well, that's how they've gotten themselves in trouble in the past. Yeah,
these blanket rules.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Yeah, I'm hoping we learn and we say these are
the guidelines. But here's the next layer is going to
be sports specific.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Now. I don't know if that's feasible coming from Congress,
but if n Cuba wants any type of you know,
guidance leadership in this, they would maybe step up and
try to think like that. But who knows right now, man,
who knows.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
There's a lot of off shoots with this bildo. We're
gonna dive into this. Also, we gotta get your top
twenty five. Next week we will unveil the top twenty
five in high school. The Project Nil Top twenty five

Speaker 2 (20:29):
It's Project Nil, Danny de Bernadine's athletic director for Penn Charter.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
High School, one of the oldest schools in the country.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
I'm Anthony Gary, got it from the Fellas and your
resident sports Dad and this is Project Nil.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Hey, so coming up and uh, this will be fun.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Next segment we got to play for you to speaking
of athletic directors, the athletic director from Purdue.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Oh Man who fired some shots.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Came out flinging.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Uh, I want to find out from our athletic director
how he feels about what my man was trying to say.
So we got plenty of that's gonna be fun looking
forward to that. But first we talked last week about
the lawsuit that went down in fact that we could
go Friday, the Colorado judge said that the high school

(21:36):
class of twenty two would be eligible for another year
of el of college eligibility, and that's already had ramifications.
We talked about certain guys, it'll be interested. Well, this
is unbelievable. Cole Hudson, who's an old lineman from Texas,

(21:59):
was yet he can't with the Browns and the Cowboys.
He gets to return to Texas for a fifth year
of eligibility, which is a big deal. And this is
where you're gonna see it really matter, right, Like we
think about quarterbacks and everything else, but like linemen who

(22:24):
need to be more mature and bigger and stronger. This
is where it's gonna help out. Now Indiana, you know,
speaking of signettes, we'll get to that with Purdue coming
up a little bit. But defensive lineman Stephen Day will

(22:44):
now get to return to Indiana. Now this is I mean,
this kid, this kid Delli's stud He led Indiana and
TFLs with nineteen he had five sacks included. I mean
that's there's a big piece to their defense, like Hudson

(23:04):
is a big piece to the offense. The Texas offensive
line try to protect Arts Manning.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, I mean it's huge. And because these guys are
obviously incredibly talented college football players, now they might not
have the size of a burst to stick in the
NFL at the level, So like to be able to
get that fifth year and come back as a twenty
three year old and give that team such a big
boost of you know, leadership and you know guidance. It

(23:34):
also an elite college football player. And also they've been
sniffing around camps, so like they've learned and played at
the highest level right now and they're coming back and
now they're ready to play college. So these are some ramifications.
The lawsuit in Colorado basically said you can go back
to your teams right if you weren't already in the pool.
It's a bit of a mess that she said you weren't.

(23:56):
If you didn't enter the portal, you can't go anywhere else.
But a lot of these teams have already spent their money,
so it looks like they have to go fundraise money
to bring these guys back because they've already hit their
you know, ceiling for spending. And then this bill an't
the Congress bill. They's basically up to to say, okay,
right now, it's twenty about twenty one million, they say,

(24:19):
and then there's a collective right, but twenty one the
school's allowed to spend. In this proposed bill, because these
people are saying we can't keep up with the spending.
They would give you twenty three million dollars for your roster,
but then twenty seven in retention, so you would have
fifty million for your school. Now some schools are spending
that in football right close to it, so like that

(24:41):
would hone teams in and say no, there's no more
outside stuff. You have fifty total million. Like that's a cap.
You can't go over it. You're allowed to spend for
all your programs fifty million dollars, which.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
I can't, is it?

Speaker 3 (24:57):
I mean, I mean there has to be a number.
I don't know how to fifty, but I think there
should be a number. I think there should be a cap.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
Like I agree with you, I think there should be
a number. But here's my The number has to be
by sport.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Yeah, so they're just saying you have fifty total. So
some teams they're just going to neglect other sports and
go on on one. They could be always go on
in football and neglect basketball and baseball and everything else.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
And what are you trying to do?

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Like you're trying to protect the athlete all sports, right
if you're if you're the governing body of college athletics.
Which again, which is why the NCUBA has always been
been a faulty premise if not for.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Its power. Right Hey, when it had.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
All the power, it could abuse everybody and it could
sit out and and play god college sports. God. Yeah.
But now with that, without its power, it's like, all right,
what are we doing here? It should be governed by sport.
That's why the conference. See, the power should be in

(26:09):
the conference, right covering the because the conference should know like, hey, listen,
this is the rule in college football. Right, so you
have an It's why you have a commissioner for sport,
because you go, you guys can only spend thirty million

(26:29):
on football.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Everybody gets up to thirty million. No more. Yeah, because
now because now it's it's more of.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
An even playing field, because Otherwise, if you're giving a
blanket number for all those different sports, I don't know
how you do it.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Yeah, I mean that's they're proposed that that's in the
Congress will agree. I think, like we talk about, it
should be specialized. It should be I believe there should
be a cap. But yeah, I don't know what that
number is because I'm broken down, like what teams are spending.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Yeah, it's irrelevant for like whatever million dollars. Whatever millions
of dollars is irrelevant for us, right, Like you know,
it's just about but the concept is what needs to
be implemented, just so there's just so there's a there's
guidelines and but again it's got to be done by sport.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Yes, yeah, we gotta. We gotta think about it in
a in a different light and not just try to
do a blanket number for everything.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Like here's the basketball, here's your football, here's your baseball,
here's your hockey, and then you know, you got soccer
and wrestling and you know lacrosse, and everybody's got to
have their own, their their own kind of way. Yeah,
travel budget for them, Like that's that's the only way

(27:47):
it's gonna work. If you did it by sport and
have and have the uh you know, the conference have
the power.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
I'm thinking about the Big Ten because hockey is really
big in a Big ten and that's starting to be
in the right Wrestling is huge in the Big ten, right,
so that's starting to become a number, right for the
top guys.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
So like.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
With those two sports being elite in the Big Ten,
it kind of would hurt them if they's just a
blanket number because, right, they want to invest in football
and basketball, but they have these other sports that are
merging as big nil paydays, like on the wrestling side
for the league guys, and like hockey now, right, like
hockey at Penn State and Michigan, like the Big ten
schools Michigan State, Yeah, Michigan State. You know what I'm saying, Martone,

(28:31):
they have these guys that they're paying and then like
are there penalized because they're good in other areas and
they're attracting those type of kids, Like I don't, Yeah,
I don't. I think you're right. It has to be
by by sport, and uh, then do have a collective
cap from.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
That, right, like like each sport and then and then
the university's sides like, hey, you know, my hockey program,
I gotta go. I gotta go dive into my hockey program,
Like my football is a separate entity, like you gotta
you know, I don't know what you would do as
the A D because it's so different. It would be

(29:09):
so different now, but you know, like you could be
if you're you know, Heartland University, all right, Yeah, and
Heartland is obviously football first, so it's in the you know,
Big ten in football, and Heartland has a good decent
hoop team, but it's not it's say, it's in the

(29:31):
you know, it's in the Big twelve in basketball, and
it wants to go into hockey, right like, so it
would be in a different league in hockey, and like
whatever it is you want to do, you know, you
as the A D, would would be like would join
per sport. You could be in different leagues.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Yeah, no, I agree, that makes sense. I'm not sure
if they're seeing it like that right now. And that's
what I'm talking about, like the proactive vision of the
bill they're putting in like general terms right now, but
like then, who who regulates how how it's gonna go
from there?

Speaker 1 (30:05):
See, that's my that's the that's the fear.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
The fear is I don't know how they're gonna, like
do they have the stomach to dive into this stuff?

Speaker 1 (30:15):
And you know where does the greed factor come in? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Right, because somebody's gonna be looking for their bag. That's
how it always is, oh for sure. But again, do
they have the stomach to really kind of because all
these loopholes until you go in once and for all
and fix it and come up with a system, you're
gonna have all this and and the beg Congress just

(30:42):
to have the power they're trying to they're still trying
to get the old way back.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Yeah, and the way it doesn't work.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah, obviously there was something wrong, right, we were trying
to fix it. So let's That's what my whole point
was earlier. It's like, let's learn from our mistakes and
attack this smarter. Yeah, with some vision, yes, and not
look just at the short term issues, but let's think
about how this looks after we do this, yeah, from.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Now and and come back with an actual plan.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Like there's still there's no plan, Like all these questions
that we just that we just threw at you, Like,
what's the plan.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
No, I hear you.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
I'm I'm totally with you. We got to figure that out, man.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
And then and it goes back to and I don't know,
and I'll ask you this because you know it from
a high school level. Is it just universities are learning
institutions and not equipped to run a business and that
and that's what we're talking about, because each every team
in every sport is its own business.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Yeah, I mean, I I know that.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
You know, major corporations have have you know, uh, different
companies in different sectors, but each of those companies have
their own leadership and needs you run like a business.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
Yeah, they don't have to grow without that way. And
they're gonna have to start thinking about it. And they're
starting to. They're starting to create more positions that are
you know, in charge of you know, they're trying to
bring collectives in, they're bringing more business minded people involved
in it. But still they need to continue to evolve.
And especially when we have some new rules that are
coming our way and some regulations, how how do we

(32:32):
adapt to that and how do we you know, create
these positions. It's not just you know, an AD. You
need someone that that works along with the AD. That's
on the business side of things, right, that can help
you be sharper, Like I feel like I have a
good understanding, but I don't, you know, I haven't run
you know, like a professional GM right, you need you
need there's cap and you know you got to figure

(32:52):
out and there's you know, there's fundraising and there's different
there's different avenues that you need to kind of create
these positions.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
For yeah, yes, yes, all right, let's take a quick
to come right back. We got to tell you about
the new A D and Purdue and what he said,
and we gotta run through the top twenty five. This
is Project and Danny de Bernadine is Anthony Gargatta with

(33:20):
you right here exclusively on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back.
It's Project Ni l Name Image Lamas Danny d. I
can't believe it's last segment. I know, as always, we're

(33:42):
gonna get going on our on that podcast, launch, newsletter,
everything we'll have you covered in this world.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
It's a great space. We love it.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Uh So Tommy McClelland the new athletic director at Purdue.
I gotta I gotta get your opinion on this is
uh has the introductory news conference and he's chesty.

Speaker 6 (34:10):
Take a listen, every recruit, every current student athlete will
hear this message repeatedly. We are here to win championships.
If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
My god. A day later, he walked it back. He said,
you know, that minute it came out of my mouth,
I knew that was the problem.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
So look, this is where I'm at with it. I
want I want to get the guys fired up, the
girls fired up. I want to you know, come in
with some energy. And you know, I'm all for little chirp.
But like, be have a clue, my god, they just
won a national championship. It's like in football, Like that's
the biggest championship you can win. They just did it.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
And by the way, like Indiana like football.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
All right, bro, they just did it. And like I
get at your rival, but like I'm all for but
like be be a little bit vaguer, like I'm for
I'm all for a little chirp. It's just like strategic
with it. And he obviously was not with that with
that quote. He he totally missed no.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
And look again, like I agree with you, Like I'm
not like I'm all down for you as the a
d go Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Man, go for it, brother, But you know you just
got to do it a different way.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Yeah, for sure. And Purdue is a great school and
they're gonna they're gonna do good things. And uh, I
don't know much about him, but he seems intense. He
seems like he's you know, he's got some good energy
and he's gonna try to build up the rest of
those programs. But their football team's been a dumpster for
the last uh yeah, figure that out since you know Tiller, Yeah,

(35:56):
it's been a while.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
You know, you gotta go back to Drew Brees these days, buddy.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yeah, slinging it all right?

Speaker 1 (36:06):
Here you go. The top twenty five coaches pulls out.
You're ready, let's go.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Let's run it all right.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Ohio State takes the top spot, thirty eight first place votes.
They're loaded there. You know, you talked about Chris Henry.
You've been talking about him for a while.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
You know, he was in our he was in our
top I think he was ranked second last year in
our top ten high school players, so he was right there.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
So I mean, you know, Jeremiah Smith and Julians talk
about an embarrassment of riches. I mean they are loaded.
Also loaded is Oregon. Dante Moore comes back. Their lines
are intact. Oregon is going to be very good. Oregon
comes in second with six first place votes. George's third

(36:59):
with seven first place votes. They are fantastic.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah. Uh, Texas is fourth.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
I mean they're good, but I don't know a big
games early. They got to see we'll see, we'll see
what Texas is pretty early.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Yes, I mean I know, I think.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
I mean, I want to get through these two and
then I want you, I want you to look at it.
Notre Dame is five and they are strong.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Of course. CJ. Carr h is back. I love what
he did in Indiana.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Aforementioned is six and they got fourteen first place votes.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Dan, Yeah, I mean it's like, how do you go
against him? Right? I mean, Signetty's been an absolute stud
since he's gotten there. And it's like, look, they they
got the formula. They're not deviating from the plane. They
still have. They just got another fifth year kid to
come back. Right, they're going with older guys are doing
how they They're attacking the transfer portal that way and
they're doing it. You kind of like the Patriots. You know,

(38:02):
older guys know your job. Come in, they've been around again,
experience and uh yeah, man, it's interesting to see a
sixth team have the second most first place votes. Right,
that's interesting.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah, I love the same thing. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
And then uh, I mean I do like. I like
Notre Dame a lot. I think they're really good. I mean, obviously,
Georgia and Oregon real good. Texas I'm a little and
again you know.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
It's arts. Take the step, it's the question is art,
it's it's it.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
It's right. That's exactly right. I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
And then around it out you got Miami seven A
and m Oklahoma uh old, miss.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
I think people are sleeping. Are all missed because Lane laughed.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
Yeah, but they still got Trinidad. Man, people are forgetting
he won. He's back. They're good and they're good and
not just he's really good college football quarterback.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
Yeah, I like them.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
I'm not out in Oklahoma at nine, I think they
should be down.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Yeah, I'm not. I agree in Matier, I'm not in
love with Matier. Yea.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Then Texas Tech LSU those teams out you know, eleven, twelve, thirteen,
I feel like they have an argument to be in
the top ten for sure.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Yeap SC.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
I don't know how good your defense is. Their offense
is gonna be good. B Yu is good. Michigan Penn
State at seventeen. Respect for Matt Campbell.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
He's one of the best coaches in college football.

Speaker 5 (39:36):
Man.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
I know that that search didn't look like it was,
you know, going well, but I mean to land him
at the end of the day is an absolutely.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Yes, the doctor Pat Craft, the ad at Penn State
did a good job. Tennessee, Washington, smu Utah, Iowa comes
into twenty two, Clemson, Houston, and Missou twenty five.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
That rounds out. That's your top twenty five coaches poll.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Yeah, and my sleeper this year down to the bottom.
I like Clemson. I like Dabbo to do. Uh have
a good job this year with the with the Tigers.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
So the youth starts to grow a little bit because
he was one of those anti nil guys from the
jump yep.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
And I think they're a little older, a little better.
I think they're gonna do a good job.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
I like that. I like that pick.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
All right, that's gonna do for us? Uh, stay tuned
Fellas coming up next. Thanks for hanging, seeing the moment
