Speaker 1 (00:00):
All liver the dream once again here on a fully
loaded sports Sunday. This is Fox Sports Sunday. Once again.
We're in the Fox Sports Radio studios ready to kick
off a huge day in the world of sports. Yeah,
a lot of things happening right now as well.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
The NFL season.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Is now up and running, with the first preseason game
in the books, and now we are fully on as
we get ready for the Shield and everything that comes
with it.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
VJ.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Husking. I'm passing in the halls yesterday, BJ and with
Buck Rising yesterday. Zach Harper and I did some work yesterday.
We got fully into it yesterday, VJ. It's an exciting time.
You know, people always talk about the Hall of Fame game,
and I do want to get into some Hall of
Fame news today as well. But you know, as far
as the Hall of Fame game is concerned, everyone's like, wow,

(00:49):
that was one of the greatest Hall of Fame games
of all time. I know you, I know you watch
these games, you rerun the games, you take your notes
and everything else. But you know, the one thing I'll
say about this game was it just remind you again. Yeah,
we're getting close. Okay, now we got a few weeks,
got the three preseason games, you get the bye week,
and then we get into the start of the NFL season.

(01:10):
So yeah, I thought it was an entertaining game, but
it just sort of wit on my appetite that, Yeah,
I'm getting ready for a little NFL football. I know
you feel the same way.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, man, No, it's not I'm getting ready. I am ready.
I am ready. It is football season. It is officially
football season. And I sent you I the I told
the CP this yesterday. Yeah, when we crossed pass yesterday
that I screenshot it how far along I was in
the game and texted to you the other night.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yes, and it was in the fourth quarter with eight
and some change to go.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
And I'm still I told you I'm gonna watch the
whole I watch preseason.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I never I never get this, honestly, Stave. I never
get this thing. People can do what they want to do.
I don't care, but I never I don't get this.
Oh preseason this or guys, it's football and this is
what it is, and this is what we got. They're
not gonna get rid of it. And this whole idea
that this is not important. See that that's It is
important because there are position battles, and as a coach,

(02:04):
and being a coach myself, you want to see how
guys are going to react and game situations.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Joint practices are one thing, and we do it in
high school.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
We do scrimmage other teams and we do breakup in
positions and go on different parts of the field and say, hey,
my d line wants to work on this. Okay, well
my offensive line wants to work on this, and you
run someplace. Fine, But then we will go scrimmage teams
where it's a game, it's a kickoff.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Coaches got to stay on the sideline. You're not allowed
on the field. It's a game, and you want to
see how kids are going to react on third and two,
on first down, or when we go okay, let's go
hurry up, guy, let's go hurry up. We want to
see the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
It's easy to do with practice, it's easy to do
a joint practice, but in game situation, and then coaches,
it gives you a chance to.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Play the play calling.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
The other night, goodness gracious, both those coaches were in
their bag.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
And I understand there's vanilla defenses.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
That's fine, but you still have to go out and
make the throws and make the players.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
And we'll talk about Carson.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
We're going to talk about it right now.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Okay, all right about Carson Back.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
All right here, here's the thing about the nil money
that's being passed around. We are getting these extended careers,
especially with quarterbacks. So suddenly you got these guys. You know,
bow Knicks I was ready to play in the NFL.
He had started more games at that point than any
Division one quarterback. Carson Back obviously the exact same thing.

(03:26):
Six years, right, I mean, you've got guys that are
playing six years. Pabia of course is not going to
play in the NFL, but he was able to legally
get a sixth year of college. And what it means
is is that these guys are going to be better
equipped to make the transition to the National Football League.

(03:48):
That added experience at the collegiate level. You know, I'm
looking at it. For instance, Jada Mayava USC quarterback, right,
I mean, I don't know if he's going to be
an NFL prospect, but he comes back and the year
this guy, by the way, who led the nation in
QBR last year higher than pave I higher than Mondoza,
higher than saying and he's going to start another full

(04:09):
year of college. Now, how is that going to hurt him?
It's not going to hurt him at all at all.
I mean, go back Drew Brees. You know it was
a three year, full time starter Perdue. It prepared him
for the next level.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Hey man, four year player at Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Absolutely, And so you know, I watch these guys that
are having that extended stay in college, like a Carson Back,
and he looked like a guy who had a full
college career, right, Okay, Dak Prescott had a full college
career a Mississippi State. The transition is less. This is
why there's a lot of questions about Ty Simpson. I mean,

(04:46):
he was a one year starter. One year starters do
not have a great track record when it comes to
longevity in the NFL. There's always exceptions to the rule,
but by and large, those that have a full run
at the collegiate level. Brock perty another guy four year
starter in college, and so it wasn't too much for
him to make the transition in the NFL. So yeah,

(05:06):
I'm not gonna overread what Carson Beck did in this game.
But the one thing is the eyeball test. Did he
look like I belong on the field.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
At the tape on?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Absolutely? With the tape on, he looks like on the field. Absolutely.
And that's what I want to see from a young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
And listen.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And the thing about Carson Beck is simply just this.
And I tweeted this, and I said this the Christopher yesterday.
Not only did he play for five six years in college,
he's played against because of the programs he were at,
He's played against a bunch of guys that are in
the NFL that made it to the NFL, that are starting.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Look at his teammates in Georgia.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Look at the defenses he had to go against in practice, right,
and then all those players from those defenses from those
national championship teams that are in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Do you think he forgot how to how to play
against upper echelon E lee talent.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
No.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
And I and I'm gonna say this, man, I told
Christs yesterday, the Cardinals are gonna regret signing Jacoby Brissett.
And I get some people are like, oh Bridge, okay,
well you could use him as a backup. I'm always
with if you got a young buck and you're not
expecting to win a lot of games this year like
the Cardinals are. The division is murderous, the NFC is murderous.
The Cardinals may win six games. Why not throw Carson

(06:19):
Beck out there?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Now?

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Now you have a young core of a big three
with Masaradi Marve if he could take his head out
of his ass. You got Jeremiah Love who people think
is gonna win offensive Rookie of the Year. And now
you have your rookie quarterback. You have a future big three.
Why are we screwing around with Jacoby Brissett? Use him
as your backup? Now, I would say, oh, it's a competition,
But when it comes down the name and the starter,

(06:42):
throw Carson Beck out there. Now, what are you holding
them for? You're not gonna be good, so you might
as well get this going out. But them give it
Jacoby Brissett. That money is gonna probably force them to
start because you have people go why do you have
twenty something million a year sitting on the bench as
the backup? Well, you shouldn't have sign him to that day.
You should just go with the young puppy, go with

(07:02):
the young buck man.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I'm just a.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
If you're not gonna win, just start the young guys
and build. Everybody learned together. You got a new head coach,
you got a rookie running back.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Everybody learned to go through the hard times together, and
then you can do something in twenty seven, twenty eight,
maybe make elite once Seattle may fall off of the
Rams fall off fifty and that's a long way way.
But you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
But again, very similar to the Kirk Cousins situation with
Vegas when you have a Jacoby ber said, he is
a tradable piece like and we've been talking about this
whole situation with the Rams as they keep talking about
whether Aaron Donald's coming back or not. It looks like
he may. But okay, great, but how about your backup quarterback?

(07:44):
You have zero You have Stetson Benner who has played
in zero games in three years in the NFL. You
have Simpson who has played zero games in the NFL.
If something should happen to your quarterback stafford, throwing those
guys in the fire for their first NFL experience seem
like a wise idea. I want a veteran, so a
guy like brizad or a guy certainly like Kirk Cousins.

(08:05):
As they are, you know, basically holding place for young
quarterbacks to make the transition. They could be valuable trade
pieces for those teams, especially you team. Do you take
the Raiders?

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Do you think the Raiders would start men those a
day one?

Speaker 1 (08:19):
No, I don't. That's not a good team. I don't
neither the Cardinals though, again I don't. When you talk
about starting day one, look at they're gonna get their
reps and everything else, throwing them into the fire. It's
a mixed back. We can always go back to the
Peyton Manning situation. But Peyton Manning also had pieces around him.
They nearly a guy named Marshall Fauk, who, by the way,

(08:40):
he gives all the credit to Marshall Fulk would literally
stand behind him and explain to him on the field.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
What you're looking at? The ball?

Speaker 1 (08:48):
You are you're looking you know again football IQ's off
the charts. Marshall Falk one of those guys, and so
Peyton Manning's always acknowledged how important it was to be
standing in the same backfield with a guy like Marshall
Falk sort of explaining things to him like what's gonna work.
What's not gonna work? You know, not everybody has that
opportunity as a young quarterback. I'm not I'm not worried

(09:08):
about guys getting their heads beaten and it's gonna stunt
their growth forever. Usually guys that start immediately and have
a bad start and it stays that way for the
duration of the career are just stuck in bad situations.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
They're just a bad franchise, you know.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
I mean, go back to the Alex Smith situation. Number
one overall picked by the forty nine ers, five years,
five offensive coordinators. I mean, how are you going to
get any traction as a young player. Then he ends
up being you know where he actually started playing well
when Harbaugh came in, and then he goes to kans City.
And when you look at Alex Smith's record as the
starting quarterback, it's one of the best in the NFL history.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
So he had talent.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
But in those early years, when you have a revolving door,
look at Baker may.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I was about to say, Baker Mayfield is the biggest
example we can we can dam darn you know me.
I'm not a Donald guy at all, But when you
go to the when you go to the Jets. Man
are bad teams and bad franchises. It's just I can
see if they're having a bad blip, but historically bad
like they've been bad for the last decade.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Like it's it just normally doesn't work out.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
You got to get out of there and get to
a better situation unless you just kind of catch lightning
in the bottles, which I think some of these teams, including.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Clus to do well.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
But I mean, then you have a situation like you
have in Washington right now and Tunsil goes down with
an injury.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Man, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
I mean it was a majority of the season to
say he's out. I mean, this guy, You're paying thirty
million dollars a year. You gave up four draft picks
for this guy, Laremy Dunzell, who by the way, went healthy,
obviously one of the premier tackles in.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
The world, the top five tackles.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
You know, you know, you're trying to get a read
on this Commander's team with the incredible breakout season they
had two years ago, and then the feels the wheels
fell off this year. Now it's like where are.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
We Injuries again?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Injuries killed them last year, and if you haven't watched quarterback,
to watch Jalen Daniels. And I'm telling you, man, he's
a guy I'm gonna really have my eye on because
I'm still fifty to fifty on Jayden Daiels because I can't.
I'm not calling him this guy, but I just can't
unsee it. I lived there, I was going to the games.
I was working the stadium for my my my friend's
aau Sons basketball team, working concussions.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Stands Robert Griffin the exactly.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
It's the same same same type you Literally before he
said the name, I'm like, I know where you're going
on this.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
It's hard hard to unsee that.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
And he got hurt last year and now they're banged
up already again. You're signing Stefan Diggs to a year
off the street, right and you know, in the middle
of camp, camp is starting, You're bringing this guy. You're
you're trying to make these moves they send d Debo
gets out of there, you bring them in. But now
he's back with the Niners. I just mclaurin's a wr one,
but I don't think he's even like a top ten
or top twelve receiver in the league.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
But he is a w R one.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
You got thirty two of them, right, there's thirty two teams,
so everybody's got a WR one.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Mean you are a WR one.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
But I just I he's a guy I'm gonna really
watch because I'm watching quarterback and you know me, man,
I like three guys energy, how they talk, their verbiage
and stuff. Jena Daniels feels a little soft to me.
He doesn't feel like he's got that. He's a nice dude,
he's got personality, he's got swag. He's great looking, he's
easy on the eyes for the ladies to look at.

(12:14):
His mom is a manager, and his life store everything.
I'm not knocking none of that. But when it comes
to like toughness and just hardcore, I don't give a damn.
I'm gonna play. I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna make
this play. I don't feel that from him. It feels
too pretty, too soft. So I'm gonna reserve judgment and
see how this year goes. But I know it's only

(12:35):
his third year, but dare I say Stevens is Jadon
Daniels on the clock.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
It's only his third year, but everything you're saying about
Jaydon Daniels. I'm in lunch. There's nothing Everything in coming
out of your mouth would be coming out of my mouth.
I'm not gonna repeat it. Yes, one hundred percent. Yes.
Is it a make or break year for Jayden Daniels. Yeah,
it is year three, like because he's gonna now he
has to come overcome Tunsl's injury and everything else, you know, excuses,

(13:02):
you know, the injuries are part of the game and
everything else. He's gonna have to show us the spark,
the magics.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
I need to see some toughness. I need to see.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
It's too much nice talk with opposing players because they're
micd up doing this quarterback years and listen, I get it,
but it feels like he's going for it. It's the
same thing I say.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
About Ant Edwards, right, I feel like Ann Edwards it's
not organic. Yeah, he's cool. He says some funny stuff.
He says some stuff to get your tweeting and scrolling.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
But I just wanted to be or you could tell
when it's organic, and it just doesn't feel that way
from this kid. And when I see that with quarterbacks
in the NFL yesterday, Buck Riser. I talked about Jalen Hurts,
and I said, look, everybody is not allowed leader, but
you don't see Jalen out there trying to be, you know,
everybody's friend, and nobody questions his toughness. No one's ever
questioned Jalen Hurts his toughness. I'm questioning Jaydeen Daniel's toughness.

(13:52):
That's a problem we.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Gonna find out this year, all right. Coming up on
the other side, it was Hall of Fame Day yesterday
and the four new inductees and the modern class as
Roger Craig by the way, some very sad news there
about the dementia. I'm it was a great Hall of
Fame class, very deserving Hall of Fame class. But now
we already set our sites and next year, one player
in particular is up for a raging argument first Ballader

(14:17):
or not? Who is a you'll find out. This is

YouTube and subscribe. All right, yesterday we had the Hall
of Fame induction speeches. You have very emotional speech from
Roger Craig, who, in my opinion, was long overdue. I
think he checked all the boxes necessary for a running
back to get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame,
considering he was the first thousand thousand guy, three time

(15:46):
Super Bowl champion, three touchdowns in one of those Super
Bowl games in nineteen eighty eight out phenomenaere offensive Player
of the Year, you know, and he diagnosed himself came
clean with the form of dementia that you know. Oh again,
when you when you play the game of football, it
is a brutal sport. And unfortunately, you know, I go
back to my years of the Raiders and obviously Roger

(16:07):
Craig was playing with the forty nine Ers at the
time I was working for the Raiders, and you know,
it hurts me every time I see one of those
Raider players pass, you know, far before their time, right.
You know, three of the players that were on the
Raiders while I worked for the Raiders ended up dying
of ALS Luke Grigg's disease, not rare, Luke Gerrigs diseases
ALS and three Raiders three from that period all died.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Of ale to doing ice challenges for it in support
of it lead to didn't who was a CJ two
K just came out with it. Yeah, yeah, Chris Johnson.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
So unbelievable. So, you know, very sad there, but you
know it was. It was a great class. I mean,
obviously Drew Brees, Layer Fitzgerald no brainer, first ballot Hall
of Famers, Louke, Keighley, Adam and Terry both second ballot
Hall of Famers, very deserving class. Okay, so now it's
it's time to look ahead. Okay, right, all right, let's
go and I think you will agree with me. Two

(16:58):
guys that will be absolutely locked first ballot guys are
going to be Adrian Peterson and Rob Kronkowski absolute first ballid. No,
the conversation on guys like that is no conversation. Next name.
Let's get to the next name. Now there's some interesting
There's two other guys when you look at their credentials,

(17:21):
should be first ballid Hall of Famers, but probably won't be.
One of them is Richard Sherman. Sherman is one of
those guys that.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
M go ahead, Okay, Wow, that would shock.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Me because again, when I talk about domination at a
position and I think that his personality may be overshadowed
what he actually accomplished as a player in the National
Football League.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Maybe yeah, well it did.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
I'm being I'm being sarcastic, but I mean when you
look at his credentials as compared to other corners that
are in the and the Pro Football Hall of Fame,
three time First Team All Pro is a huge thing.
He was on the All twenty tens team. He's a
Super Bowl champion as a five time proler. I mean,
when you think of dominant quarters corners of that era,

(18:16):
I think that Sherman is in the conversation. He will
not be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Another guy
that will not be a first Hall of Famer for
other reasons is a guy again who has insane credentials,
and that's Antonio Brown. Antonio Brown, to give you an
idea of how dominant he was, Antonio Brown in his career,

(18:42):
and I want to make sure I get the number right.
Four time first Team All Pro, that wide receiver, that's
what Randy Moss had. That's Randy Moss. Seven Pro Bowls.
This is a guy when you look at his numbers
and his dominance over a period of time is off
the charts. Between twenty thirteen and twenty eighteen, his numbers

(19:04):
are literally off the charge. He basically averaged one hundred
yards receiving a game over a six year span. You know,
we make this argue about Tory Holt's he ever going
to get in. These are better numbers than Tory Hold,
But it's in a short amount of time. We'll get
into the logistics of you know, having a long career
of you know, very good versus a short run. It's

(19:24):
totally dominant, and Tonio Brown was dominant. But that's not
the person I want to ask you about. Oh no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
No again. You want to ask you a question? It out, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
The question is. This question is whether this person is
a Hall of Famer. The question is should this person
be a first ballot Hall of Famer? And I do
think there is a distinction. Now, I would change rules
as far as a Hall of Fame if I were
in charge. I'll get to that in a moment. But
in your opinion, is Ben Roethlisberger a first ballot Hall

(19:57):
of Famer?

Speaker 2 (19:58):
No, no, Big Ben a first ballot Hall of Famer.
He's a Hall of Famer.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
And listen, God, I can't believe him about to say this,
because I've always felt like this about Ben. I know
the numbers, okay, and I know the stats, But when
you look at him going up against Brady and going
up against Manning in the AFC, it.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Was those three guys, correct, It was.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Those three guys Nine times out of ten they had.
The Steelers had the better team, but for some reason
he couldn't beat those guys enough.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
But they have better teams.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
You're talking about Antonio Brown, hinz Ward, you did, Mike
Tomlin like that, Troy Polamalu. Those Stealer teams were reminiscent
of the seventies Steeler teams. They were loaded everywhere, and
you wonder why you didn't get deeper into playoffs and
get to more Super Bowls with all that talent if
you're the guy.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
It's always been my argument about Sean Payn and Drew Brees,
even with each other over that fifteen year span. You
got the one Super Bowl in the paint man, he
doesn't throw a pick six to Porter to end the game.
You you might not get that ring. And I understand
you got the ring, but I look at.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
The whole content totality. So is he a Hall of Famer.
He's gonna get in. But as you always say, just
because you're in, I mean you think there's way too
many quarterbacks in.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
The Hall of Fame. Now again your main thing.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
See again, football is different than any other sport when
it comes to Hall of Fame because in baseball, you're
a hitter or a pitcher, right, a rare exception for
a Nausie Smith or you know Brooks, you know guys
that had a great club. Same thing with basketball, basically
you're a score. What will you make an exception for
the Kenbi and Matumbo or Ben Wallace or Michael Cooper
defensive specialists. Yeah, they'll do that. But in football, you

(21:49):
got everything. You got guys that throw the ball, you
guys run the ball. The guys on defense, offensive and
defensive lineman, they got sacks. Offensive linemen have no stats.
I mean, you know, so you have to look at
where you dominate at your position. That's why I brought
up a Richard Sherman, That's why I bring up an
Antonio Brown, because they dominated their positions, certainly more so

(22:12):
than Ben Roethlisberger. Look, the dominant quarterbacks of this era
were Brady Manning, Breeze and Rogers. Those are the guys
that were Those are the four dominant quarterbacks of this era. Okay,
they have all the numbers, they have all the accolades,
they have everything else. Interesting that two thousand and three
draft class that produced Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Philip Rivers.

(22:36):
They're very similar quarterbacks. You can look at their overall numbers, Well,
they're top ten all time in all these numbers. Okay,
those numbers have been inflated over the years because they
just throw the ball more. But when you actually start
breaking down their seasons, how many times do they lead
the league in passing or passing yards or passing efficiency?

Speaker 9 (22:55):
Right?

Speaker 2 (22:55):
None? Zero?

Speaker 1 (22:57):
And so then it comes down to the Super Bowl.
So you have Eli Man he with two Super Bowls
and two Super Bowl MVPs. Ben Roethlisberger went to three
Super Bowls, won two zero Super Bowl MVPs. And of
course Philip Rivers never even made it to a Super Bowl.
So they all have deficiencies. You could all but make
the argument because hey, Jim Kelly was a first ballot

(23:18):
Hall of Famer. They put him in on the first ballot.
I mean, okay, he was the only quarterback ever to
take his team to four straight Super Bowls, but they
lost them all. Warren Moon was a first ballot Hall
of Famer, but there was a social significance to Warren
Moon's career beyond just the big numbers and everything else.
Some people talk about Dan Foutz, How was he a
first ballot Hall of Famer. He rewrote the record books.

(23:40):
He broke the record for passing yards in three consecutive years.
He was breaking records.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
When they weren't throwing as much.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Right, yes, literally breaking.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Record Marino Marina's first ballot. How is he not? You
got to put him in the arena?

Speaker 1 (23:55):
To me is a no brainer. As an l Waier,
guys like that, all right, So Ben Roethlisberger really falls
in the same crevice, so to speak, of Eli Manning
and Philip Rivers. Now Rivers course had to restart his clock.
He'll have to wait five more years before he's eligible
because he played three last year even though he was
on the finalist list StAst year. So he has to

(24:16):
restart the clock. But yeah, I'm with you. The problem
now looking forward, if Roethlisberger does not get on the
first bout, next year is Brady's year. They're not going
to put two quarterbacks in with one it's Tom Brady,
So that's.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Not gonna happen. Brady's in next year.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
So Brady's in next year, and then you have sort
of that lull, and this is where they're going to
take a look of Eli mann Let's just break it there,
Eli Manning versus Ben Roethlisberger. Who do you believe should
go into the Hall of Fame first? Assuming you think
both those guys are both Hall of famers. Well, here's
another thing too. Remember Matt Ryan is available. He won't

(24:49):
get in next year, but in twenty nine, if neither
Eli or Ben gets in in twenty eight, in twenty nine,
you're going to add Matt Ryan's name to that and
it's going to go, well, he didn't have the Super Bowl, Okay,
But to see, this isn't about the Hall of Fame
is not about super Bowls.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
The Hall of Fame is about tape.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
And when you put the tape on, Like, I'll ask
the question right now, who was the better quarterback? Just
say just the quarterback, Matt Ryan or Big Ben?

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Again, Matt Ryan won an MVP Award.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
But you noticed how you had to Paul's for a second. Yeah,
you got to think about it. If you just say, listen,
the teams, take the teams out, Big Ben, Matt Ryan.
Who are you taking right?

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Again? Ben obviously played on much better teams, much better,
much better than Matt Ryan.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Big Ben. Was it the number one or the number two? Overall?

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Pick, and that's because the Falcons were terrible and the
Dolphins thought Jake Long and Bill Parcells was the way
to go.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
The thing about Matt Ryan's career because this was the
argument I made with Philip Rivers. So again, there are
only two quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era that have
made the Hall of Fame who never played in a
Super Bowl, and that is Dan Fouts and Warren Moon. Right,
is Philip Rivers in the same conversation as those two guys.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I mean, if we're gonna go by that measure is stick.
We can't change it. What sucks because I'm a Phillip guy.
Phillip's my guy.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Man. I've been with Phillips since is he state when
he was throwing the toy?

Speaker 6 (26:08):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Hold on to that, right, hold on. We're going to
get back to this, but first let's find out what
is trending right now. So we have Garrett producing today,
Manci and you came in as you usually do, taking
care of all the guys around here, and I think
he was stunned, like he was like, what's happening here?

Speaker 10 (26:27):
She got a preview of it last week when I
walked in with food. I did not know he was here,
I still offered him something.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Now I want to hear you. I want to hear
the voice of Garrett on the air. Yeah, this is
work's over here, Garrett. We we're all on the air here.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yes, everybody got to talk on this show.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Garrett's been on shows. I won't mention where he's just
noted to nod and not speak.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
That's not the case.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
That's not here, not today.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Get I get mad when people don't's talk. I'm warn't
happy to speak.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
I want to take places if you like.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
So it was a nice breakfast, right, Garett. I mean
that MONSI brings in. It was an unexpected burrito. Yeah,
breakfast burrito. I was very enjoyed, enjoyed it a lot.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
So I'm you know, keep it up coming if you
if you want, if you don't know.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
Moncey like she is officially Mama Bear of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
And that's and that's real. That's that's like, wait till Christmas,
Wait till, wait till you get your snack, Wait till
you get your your grab bag for Christmas. Dog Like,
we're working on Christmas.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
We all work on Christmas. Christmas, Christmas. I missed the
fact that we have NBA and NFL on Christmas Day.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yes, everybody, I've had a Christmas off in five years.
I've been here for I don't know when.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
I've worked Thanksgiving every for twenty five years.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Black Friday V Day.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah, I'll be there every day all week.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
We're here.

Speaker 10 (27:48):
Yes, I like to keep you guys fed, so nobody's angry.
You know what I'm saying, guys, Let's start with some
NFL and use. Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has informed the
team that he plans to step away from the team
with retire meant likely. He was said to be Detroit's backup,
but now has been placed on the reserve retired list.
The NFL Network is reporting the Bears wide receiver Luther
Burden suffered a growing injury recently in practice. Should miss

(28:11):
a little bit of time. Me and Burden, we wear
the same right now. The Panthers signed Kyle Trask as
a third quarterback on Sunday, as rookie quarterback Haynes King
is expected to miss some time with a hamstring injury.
When it comes to the NBA sad news as Mark
Stein first reported that Hall of Famer Don Nelson a
three time NBA Coach of the Year, a five time
champion as a player with the Celtics, passed away at

(28:33):
the age of eighty six. No easy way to transition.
But we'll go over to baseball, where it is a
tight race in the wild card race between the National
League and the American League. But the Nationals right now
lead the Reds four to one bottom of the eighth inning.
The A's of taking the lead from the Red Sox
in Boston, they're up tow to one top of the fourth.
The Mets lead the Pirates in Pittsburgh five to one
top of the fourth, there where the Phillies lead the

(28:54):
lead the Blue Jays three to one. Top of the
fifth inning. Marlins are on top of the Angels three
to two at home. Bottom of the third. Guardians lead
the White Sox in Chicago two to one after the
first inning.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Brewers on the scoreboard first against the Twins.

Speaker 10 (29:07):
It's one nothing bottom of the second inning about to
start in Milwaukee, while the Rockies and the Cardinals are
tied at one bottom of the first inning. And in
the w NBA Fellas, the Liberty already defeated the Aces
one eleven to seventy one back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
All right, MONSI thank you. Still no reception, still no reception.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yeah, I heard about I heard about that with Verizon today,
all four Verizon people.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Well it is un t at t Well, I have
Verizon and I've been trying to get a hold of somebody,
and I don't have any phone. We have an Internet,
but we don't have anythone.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Googled this morning is set for you, guys.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
To power your phone down, power back on, flip on
and off your airplane mode. That's what I Google right now.
His phone is Verizon. She's like, is your phone working?

Speaker 1 (29:51):
It's not everyone, it's not everyone's. My phone literally says
emergency calls only. And I try to text, and it
literally said your text did not go through. You got
to sign on, get onto Wi Fi from Wi Fi.
You can do it.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yeah, yeah, I was on Wi Fi.

Speaker 10 (30:08):
Oh, because I'm able to text right now, but I
have Wait a second.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
What's that?

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Hold on?

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Hold on through What's app? Wait a second?

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Messages coming, Okay, So but yes.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
I mean, if you're not on Wi Fi, can you
use What's App?

Speaker 1 (30:22):
And like, out on the street, I need the Wi
Fi no matter. Oh now it's working. So whatever, it's
not working, mine still says sos. So, Now all of
a sudden it's working all right, so we'll keep it
our eye on that. Okay, once again we're in the
Fox Sports Radio studios. I want to detour slightly, although
staying with the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a moment.

(30:44):
Here she mentioned the pass and at Don Nelson. Don
Nelson was one of the most respected coaches in NBA history.
He never not only won a championship, he never even
got to the NBA finals. He was the winningest coach
in the history of the NBA. He retired most wins,
but he never won a championship. He never even got

(31:04):
to the NBA finals, and he still was in the
Hall of Fame. And the reason I mentioned that is
someone that was mentioned yesterday during one of the Hall
of Fame speeches. These are the eight coaches VJ in
the history of the National Football League that have won
at least two hundred regular season games. There's only eight

(31:26):
coaches in the history of the NFL that have won
at least two hundred regular season games. They would be
Don Shula, George Hallis, Bill Belichick, and Annie Reid. Tom
Landry Curly Lambeau, Paul Brown, and Marty Schottenheimer. So Marty

(31:50):
was mentioned yesterday by Drew Brees, who gave him all
the credit. He said, when he came to the Chargers
as a rookie and Marty was the coach of the Chargers,
how tough Marty was on him. And he goes, you know,
at some times I thought Marty was out of line.
But one thing he never doubt it was, is Marty's
belief you can be that quarterback right right, You'll be great.

(32:14):
You can be great, right, yes, And he goes, if
it wasn't for Marty Schottenneimer is the man that took
those first five years I had in San Diego and
then going into a perfect system with Sean Payton in
New Orleans, I'm not standing here in the Hall of Fame.
That's he goes, and he said, this is a man
that should be in the Hall of Fame. Now, why
isn't he in the Hall of Fame? Five and eleven

(32:34):
in the postseason, never got to a super Bowl and
everything else. But again, when I look at Don Nelson,
to me, don Nelson and Marty Schottenheimer very similar guy,
same type of guy, and don Nelson was no problem
in the Hall of Fame. No one questioned whether Don
Nelson should be in the Hall of Fame. I believe
Marty Schottenheimer should get more consideration. And I'm a little

(32:56):
partial because I told you the great story when Marty
came to San Diego and working in the San Diego market.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
You'll love this VJA.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
So he invited about ten of us, ten of the
main sports media people in San Diego, out to dinner,
nice steakhouse. Right, We're like, wow, Marty, thank you. So
we all go out to the steakhouse. There's Marty at
the end of the table and there's five of us
on one side, five on the other, and they're delivering
our steak dinners and everything else. And Marty's sitting there

(33:25):
with an empty plate in front of him, and the
lady walks in and puts a glass of scotch in
front of him.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
He had a glass of scotch. And we just had
a rip roaring time talking, asking any question everything else.
I was a huge Marty Schottenheimer fan. So again when
we talk about coaches and there, you know, we have
the backlog now with Belichick and Holmegrin. That's not to
say these guys who have won Super Bowls maybe slight
Marty Moore deserving, But I don't think a guy like

(33:56):
Marty Schottenheimer, who started with the Browns when they were terrible,
him a winner, you know, lost a couple of AFC
Championship games, had a great run with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He had a one year flame out with the Redskins
at the time when everyone was flaming out, and then
he goes to San Diego completely turn around a team
completely from a team that was one in fifteen. A
couple of years later they win the division title. So

(34:17):
and by the way, his last year as a coach,
he was fourteen to two and got fired. So what
do you think.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
No, I agree with you, Marty Scheinheimer. I mean, you
didn't even go back to just his his you know,
the Kansas City days, right, you can go back to
He's always been out there in the AFC West. That's
always been his stomping grounds.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
And he's the reason why I don't like the five
and eleven is why he's not in the hall.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Why that pisses me off, is because he doesn't play.
He doesn't play.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Okay, so when you get to the postseason, like, look
at some of these names, and I know where up.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Let's let's do this.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
As you were talking, all those coaches you wrote down
that have two hundred plus wins, I wrote a name
next to them, the reason why they have almost All right, all.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Right, hang on that. We're gonna continue on with this
Hall of Fame conversation. This is Fox Sports Sunday. Please
don't listening to Fox Sports really radio, Harbin and Husky,
Fox Sports Sunday once again in the Fox Sports Radio studios.
How we're talking to some Hall of fame. You know,
Hall of Fame is one of those things that you know,

(35:21):
it's just it's it's it's a natural argument's it's sort
of like low hanging fruit. I get it. But at
the same time, with a Hall of Fame weekend, it's
the one time when you can start really get into it,
you get into the whole ceremony with the Hall of
Fame class. Yeah. I was very fortunate VJ to actually
be in canon for two Hall of Fame ceremonies. The
first was in the year two thousand, when Howie Long

(35:43):
got into the Hall of Fame along with Joe Montana,
Ronnie Lott, Dan Rooney that year and then three years
later Marcus Hellen, my dear friend, had invited me to
come along and we went there for his Hall of
Fame ceremony and it is spectacular and if you are
a pro football and this is not a plug, I'm
just saying from my own experience, it's well worth the

(36:04):
trip to Canton to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
It's it's you know, these Halls of Fame. You know,
I've been to Cooperstown only one time, but you know,
if you're totally into the sport, you know, you see
the history and you feel the history. And either way
the way they you know they set it up now
with the gallery of all the bust and everything, it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
It really is.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
I mean, and you know you have your favorite teams
or favorite players or frameer coaches, and that's where we're
going out.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Are these coaches VJ.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Because we're now getting that backlock of coaches I mentioned
already Schottenheimer, but you still have Mike Shanahan out there,
who won two Super Bowls. You have Tom Kaughlin who
won two Super Bowls, Mike Holmgren, who I think should
be in the Hall of Fame. We went to three
Super Bowls, won one, and then of course you got
Bill Belichick, who it's not inexplicable. It was the change

(36:55):
and the rules that led to Belichick not being a
first ballot Hall of Famer as he should be in.
None of these other coaches can even be considered because
they only have one coach Canada each year. None of
them can be considered until you get Belichick in the door.
It's not like you're gonna put him off a year.
You got to figure out a way to get Belichick in.
Then he can start talking about these other coaches.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Well, not just talking about these other coaches. I want
to go back to to Marty Schottenheimer because once again
we if we're gonna use the playoff record against him,
that's my thing, and we're gonna use the playoff record
against them.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Okay, he doesn't play right. And I started looking at
the coaches that you said had two hundred wins, and
I'm looking at these names and the coach that have
two hundred wins, and I wrote a name next to
some of these coaches because Marty Setenhamer doesn't have one.
Any names you can write down, like if you want
to talk about Shula, Well, we had Dan Marino for
one hundred and sixteen of those two hundred plus wins, right,

(37:49):
So he had one hundred and sixteen wins with Dan Marino.
Bill Belichick over two hundred plus wins. He's got one
hundred and ninety six to seven with Tom Brady. Okay,
we can go down to Paul Brown's. Paul Brown's on
that list, right, He's got one hundred and five of
those wins with Auto Graham, is correct, Okay, Even Vince Lombardi,
he's got seventy seven with Bart Starr, Andy Reid, he
had Pat Mahomes. Donovan is not in my list, Curly,

(38:13):
I know, but I'm just naming these great coach and
ray and how they have these guys.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Even Tom Landry, he had eighty five wins with Rogers
sterber Up.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
The two hundred is what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
So like, basically of Tom Tom Landry's two hundred plus
eighty five of those he had the same guy. He
had the same Hall of Fame, elite status quarterback. Tell
me who that's been for Marty over in extended periods
and he had philip Rivers. But I don't want to
hear that from the people who don't even have philip
rivers going to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
So don't try to use faction.

Speaker 1 (38:43):
No, no, no, Marty only had philip rivers as a starter
for one years. That's the point I'm making, is like
here a short year as a starter for a period
of time. Remember in Cleveland. Of course he brought along
Bernie Coacht.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
Yeah, Bernie, Bernie goes on, but they runningto John Elway
all those years.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Janson was a revolving door. Yes, absolutely a revolving door.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
But the point I'm making is if we're gonna go
to the playoff thing, okay, fine, just run that across
the board. You know me, Pardoner, I can't change from
topic to topic. I'm gonna be the same guy across
all topics to keep the sports talk fair because we
can't move the goalpost. Because you wanted to be this
for this topic, but not this for this topic. No,
we're talking Hall of Fame. So we're going across the board.

(39:26):
And like you said in basketball, don Nelson walks in
the Hall of Fame, he walks into the Hall of
Fame was cheaping him out of the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
But for some reason in football, head coach?

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Well, what was his playoff record? Why does that matter?
Could he coach? Because if he was a great coach,
that's what gets him in the Hall of Fame. If
he was a great coach. We've turned this into such
a mathematical numbers thing and pro sportsman, and it drives
me crazy because it affects things like Philip Rivers is
a Hall of Fame quarterback. Dog, I don't want to

(39:58):
hear that we didn't get the Super Bowl. That's not
the point. Could he play quarterback? Was he one of
the best quarterbacks of your air of watching football? Okay,
so now how is he not in the Hall of Fame?
Everybody can't get to the Super Bowl? Not to mention,
he's going to get Big Ben, Pey Manny and Tom
Brady in AFC his whole career. He's got those three guys.
He's got to try to get through.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
All right, Three coaches currently coaching literally thirteen fourteen, fifteen
all time. Which one of these is the best Hall
of Fame candidate? Sean Payton, John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy. They've
all won Super Bowls. All right, we roll on much

(40:36):
more coming up here. This is Fox Sports Sunday, all right,
rolling along, Hair on another busy Sunday in the world
of sports. Fox Sports Sunny. We're from all Fox Sports
Radio studios. That's where we hang out every Sunday. Here
we're talking a little Hall of Fame today we're taking
you know, like I said, it's one of those things
where you get into the back and forth conversation. You know,

(40:59):
I have said this VJ as far as if I
were to set up a Hall of Fame for any sport,
this is how I would do it. Okay, you know
Roger Craig got in in his twenty eighth year of eligibility.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
That's ridiculous. That's that's just crazy.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
Okay, it should never come to that. Let's let's do
it this way. Five year waiting period now here. I'm
making one big assumption here. I'm assuming those that are
voting actually know what they're talking about. That's a big assumption.
In other words, if you are one of those people
that have the privilege of voting for the Hall of

(41:37):
Fame and whatever sport it is, you should be one
of the elite people in terms of knowledge of the
history of the sport. You should be to be able
to put players careers, or coaches careers, or contributors career
in context. So I'm going to assume for a second
that people involved in the voting process know what they're

(41:58):
talking about. Okay, So what I would do is you
have a five year waiting period. The list of eligibles
would only be those that have waited that five year
peer there are no holdover names from the previous year, okay, none.
You start with a fresh list every year of the
five years out interesting, and then what you do.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
Is you vote.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
It could be zero, it could be eight if you
think that. Man, but you're gonna set the bar high.
Eighty percent vote pro Football Hall of Fame, not seventy
five percent like the Baseball writers. Eighty percent vote if
you got five six guys that you think are worthy,
eighty percent of the vote, and you can vote for
as many guys as you think belong first ballot. Now

(42:39):
I'm also into second chances. So those that don't make
it from that list, the holdovers from that list. Five
years later, there will be the holdover list, no oud
of names, just those that were passed up five years ago.
I'm gonna give you another five years to contemplate whether
or not any of those guys he's maybe you miss

(43:01):
somebody belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Hold on, so just pauls four a second, because I'm
following you them. Right, it's not so five year. Every
year a new five. But if you don't get in
off that five, you have to wait five to be
reconsidered again.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
Correct, the leftovers from that list that didn't make it
from five years.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Before you gets pushed another five. All right, I got you.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Now you've had ten years to figure it out on
that list still blow. So that's it. Two tries, two tries.
He If you don't make it after two tries, then no,
you're not a Hall of Famer because basically, after.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Ten years, if you're not in, to you, you're not in.

Speaker 1 (43:38):
Okay, let me give you in because that's what it
sounds like.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Right, You get you two tries, you get to five,
and then you get another five. That's ten.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
What do I say it all the time here? If
I give you a name and you have to think,
you have.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
To think about it.

Speaker 1 (43:48):
I know that's what hall of Fame to be automatic. Absolutely, okay,
So it's.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Hard to do with somebod these names. It's hard to
do man, with somebody's names.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Let me give you an example here and then I'm
going to get to your answer on my three cad Yes.
So you have two wide receivers that have now been
finalist for one of them seven years, the other I
believe five years, Tory Holt and Reggie Wayne. So they're
just lingering. By the way, this happened with another trio

(44:22):
of receivers back in the day, Andre Reid, Chris Carter,
and Tim Brown, and the three of them were just
sort of bunched up for years and then Omarvin Harrison,
who was a no brain first ballot guy, would come
along and just get in and you just see these
names the year after year and then finally, so finally

(44:43):
it was Carter got in, and then Andre Reid got in,
then Tim Brown. The all three got in, but they
wouldn't put them all in at the same time, so
it was sort of like a log jam that was
finally broken. So we have a similar thing. By the way,
there's another name to be added with Tory Holt and
Reggie Wayne.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
That's Steve Smith.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
We really had three wide receivers that are just sort
of lingering right now whether or not they should get him.
Larry Fitzgerald was a no brainer, first ballot guy. Right,
he's like a jury.

Speaker 2 (45:10):
Indoubtedly, undoubtedly I have a problem.

Speaker 1 (45:12):
And so we got first problem. What do you do
with these guys? The idea of hang And by the way,
I've talked to people, Lynn Swan was a finalist for
fourteen straight years. Fourteen years it was announced you're a finalist,
and for thirteen straight years he didn't get the call.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Well, that's that's because there was such a logjam in
the AFC at that time.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
There was a log jam between him and John Stalwarts. Now,
by the way, you know what happened. Swan got in
and the very next year Stalwart got it.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
And that's how it was going to break down. And
I saw doctor that was one. There was some NFL
thirty football like there was. It was one of the
football lives I watched on NFL network that talked about
that and it said, no, it was. It was such
a logjam in the AFC also too, because you had
all those Raider players.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
Yes at that time, you yes, you had a lot
of you had you had the Dallas Cowboys at that time, Pearson.
There were so many teams in that block of the
late sixties and seventy and in.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
Those days they didn't put up the kind of receiving numbers.
Ryan is completely changed. So you're right. It was like
Drew Pearson clip. It was a long swan John Stalworth
and it was sort of a you know, and so
that's that's what happens.

Speaker 9 (46:13):
All right.

Speaker 1 (46:13):
I want to get back to Oh, I'm.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
Sorry, just real quick, I clear up.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Nope, it wasn't that when I interviewed Drew Pearson. Where
Drew Pearson went in. Finally I went I got a
chance to interview all the finalists because they did two
classes in one year because of COVID.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
Exactly. That's who told me that story.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
But he got bypassed that year because they put Harold
Carmichael Ryan right, and then he got in the next year,
and then the year after that unfortunately the latest.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
That's my god.

Speaker 1 (46:41):
All right, all right, So to the question. So the
question is, these are three current NFL coaches, two of
them by the way, moving to new teams this year,
and they are thirteen fourteen, fifteen on the all time
list of regular season wins of coaches in the history
of the NFL. Sean Payton, John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy, they've

(47:03):
all won one Super Bowl. Their career records are almost identical.
I mean literally almost identical in every respect as far
as regular season, postseason Super Bowl wins. There's almost zero
to separate these three guys. So and by the way,
all of them have only been two one Super Bowl

(47:25):
and won the Super Bowl. So there you go. Sean Payton,
John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy, all still currently coaching, and give
me your one, two.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
Three, all right, So.

Speaker 3 (47:37):
Without it being biased, because I had to really really
think on this because you're talking McCarthy, right. So he
had Aaron Rodgers, right, Sean Payton had Drew Brees, and
John Harball had Joe Flacco.

Speaker 2 (47:51):
That is correct.

Speaker 3 (47:52):
I'm going with John Harball just off the stript that
he did it with the lesser of the three quarterbacks
that all three of.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
Those eyes had. Now, all those quarterbacks led them to
the Super Bowl wins.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
But in no world, at any point in time in
a football discussion, would you.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
And anybody with the right mind ever say that Joe
Flacco is on the level of a first ballot Hall
of Famer.

Speaker 1 (48:17):
Aaron Jing, Lamar Jackson, and did he not have Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
Lamar Jackson's not Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers. And I
love it, okay, But I mean I mentioned.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
Joe Flacco, who he did have great.

Speaker 2 (48:28):
Because James with him, and he won the super Bowl
with him. That's why I put him.

Speaker 1 (48:31):
Every single year the Flacco and Harbor got to the playoffs,
they won at least one playoff game. He cannot say
that of Lamar.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
How many years the McCarthy have far because they have
McCarthy have Far also too. Yeah, I mean, okay, so
I could put him really just barely so, but I
could still put his name if you want to do name.
I could still throw Far.

Speaker 3 (48:47):
But I didn't put it there because that was the
end of FARV and I realized that. But he had
the bulk, He had all the good of Aaron Rodgers.
Sean Payton had all the good god Drew Brees. So
you have Harbo one who's two, I'll go it reluctantly,
even though I don't like the guy.

Speaker 2 (49:06):
Reluctantly, I'll go Champagne.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
I do think he's a better when I take the
feelings and I take the dibiasness out of it.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
Sean Payton, I think is levels of a better head
coach and a better play caller than Mike McCarthy. I'll
be honest with you, I don't think it's closed. I
don't like Champagne now he just runs me wrong. But
the guy could coach the game of football, and he can.
He can draw up a damn game plan and tear
your defense apart. He's great at that. And by the way,

(49:33):
I give him that.

Speaker 1 (49:34):
The one coach that is a contemporary, though, is Mike Tomlin.
But Tomlin has more wins. In fact, Tomlin is tied
with Chuck Nole ninth all time, Tom get Marty Schotenneimer,
eight guys have had two hundred wins. Tied for ninth
and one ninety three are Chuck Nolan Mike Tomlin, the
two Steeler coaches.

Speaker 3 (49:53):
Tomlin's gonna get in because Tomlin's only gonna do a
year TV. If you saw that in booth interview with
him and Tarika and Collinsworth, you can tell. And he
openly admitted he goes. I haven't really thought about it
a lot, he goes. But the season ain't got going yet,
he goes.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
Probably once the season gets going, you know, I'll get
the jitters and I'll get he's gonna do TV for
one year, and he's gonna be great at it.

Speaker 3 (50:16):
He's gonna be exceptional at it. Someone's gonna call him
and say, what's your number. He's still young enough to
at least coach another ten to twelve years in the NFL.
Mike Tomlin will be on the sideline and I'll give
you the team right now. Mike Tomlin is the next
head coach for the Washington Commanders because they're gonna fire.
They're gonna fire dan Quinn this year if this thing

(50:38):
doesn't go right off, if they go through another five
and twelve or six and eleven season, they're not gonna
get rid of Daniels, but they're gonna fire dan Quinn.
And when people don't know, if you don't know this,
not that you don't know, if you don't notice, Mike
Tomlin's from the DMV area. He's from that area. There
are rumors that they wanted him before they hire dan Quinn.
Mike Tomlin will be the twenty twenty eight coach. We

(51:00):
said a coach of the Washington Commanders if this thing
falls apart this year. So Mike Tomlin's still gonna coach.
So he's down, He's down the line. He's gonna blow
off those guys wins away, all right.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
Speaking to Mike Tomlin, he had something to say about
a certain team in the NFL that I found extremely
interesting as we get ready for the twenty twenty six season,
which team find out? This is Fox Sports Sunday Hervin Husky. Hey,
Fox Sports Sunday from the Fox Sports Radio studios. By

Speaker 4 (51:55):
Yes, it is that time, all right, everybody, gather a rock.
It's that time of the week. It's that time of
the day. It's time for Uncle Vj's corner.

Speaker 2 (52:12):
Yeah, sir, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I like
that right there, Uncle Vj's Court, another supendous episode. Man
Here on Harmon and Husky on Fox Sports Sunday, fringing
up some stories that I care about and you should
care about them too. Chilling out here in la is
always on a handsome bulevard and but not let drop.
Let's get right to it. Training camp fights are dumb,

(52:34):
they really are. I get it though, but they're dumb.
They're really dumb. There's your teammate, you guys, now what
feels like it's just a show.

Speaker 3 (52:40):
And the incident that happened the other day between Kirk
Cousins and Max Crosby, it's just no need for it.
You're talking about two veterans. I can see if one
of these guys was a young bukkaroo and your little
young whipper snapper, little wet behind a little mush mouth,
wet behind the ears and wants to prove something.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
These are two guys that are ten plus veterans.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
Why is Mati Rosby hitting him the.

Speaker 2 (53:00):
Runner back in the arm on a rush play? Anyway,
you're asking for bad things that happen here, Tom Brady,
get this thing together here. Both of them were kind
of kicked out of practice and this suspended for practice
for the next dame.

Speaker 3 (53:14):
That's where I want to go with this. Listen, if
you want to fight, I'm the NFL coach or I'm
the franchise. I don't even put in the coach's hands.
I take it to the ownership in the front office.

Speaker 2 (53:23):
Fights.

Speaker 3 (53:23):
You're suspended for two practices. We Docupay, we're not out
here to fight each other. Guys, we got eighteen weeks
to go fight. Let me see that fight. I'll tell
you is that we fight camp and we go too
and fifteen. I'm gonna be mad as hell because you
was ready to fight in camp, but you didn't want
to fight for fifteen weeks when we got our asses
kicked on the football field.

Speaker 1 (53:41):
Can I just njack go? How things have changed? So
back in the eighties with the Raiders, we go to
training camp and sometimes Al Davis, who is sort of
the de facto coach on the sidelines, he wanted to
check the toughness of certain players. He would put out
a hit on players in peric like.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Physical I've seen that done before. I've heard about that
being dumb before.

Speaker 1 (54:04):
It almost instigate. Let's see his reaction. You know, you
late hit or something like that. I just want to
see how he reacts, right, but not just full on
fighting Crosby hitting his quarterback in the arm.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
First of all, why is mass Crossby ever rushing your
starting veteran quarterback when you have the number one overall
pick sitting over here? And if something happens to Kirk Cousin.
Even though Tom Brady is a story that came out
this week that he does want that coaching staff to
hold off Mendoza as long as possible.

Speaker 3 (54:32):
That was reported all y'allhoo sports. He totally gets it.
But yeah, let's clean this up. Also to just to
wrap this up about Max Crosby, he has just always
struck me as the meat head frat guy that never
grew up.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
He just does almost like JJ Watt. I feel the
same way about Jay. I do just kind of like you.
You almost not not I don't want to say bully,
but just kind of like you gotta beat the tough guy.
You gotta be the cool, too cool, tough guy that
can beat everybody up, and you can do it a
certain age and a certain point. Grow the hell up,
because once again, these are two veterans. The veteran guy
on the offense, the most veteran guy on the defense.

(55:09):
I see why they almost wanted to get you out
of there and traded you last year for training camp.
Fights are stupid. More training camp news. I'm watching the
Giants training camp and I'm seeing Odell Beckham Junior out here. Now,
I'm not going to try to knock any man that
still want to get out here and pursuer's dreams. But
when I just saw you talking about.

Speaker 3 (55:29):
One hundred and two million dollars in enough money and
it's not what people think.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
And I'm seeing all these former athletes try to talk
to working class people and telling people where the average
incomemedian in his country is fifty two thousand dollars a year.
That you can't live off of one hundred and two
million dollars over a seven year period that you were paid.
And now you want to come back to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (55:51):
Odell Beckham, I know why you're back. You need the money, bro.
You're not gonna do anything in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
You are washed up, you are older, you are beating down,
you are broken.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
I hate guys that just think you can roll off
their couch and come back to this game unless you
built like Aaron Donald and you work out with Dwayne Johnson.

Speaker 2 (56:10):
But you don't do that.

Speaker 3 (56:11):
You stand on Yoahson getting rap videos and chasing around
Instagram models and stuff like that. Like, bro, I hate
this look for you, and I understand why Harball's doing
it brings them a veteran in there, but I'm gonna
go out on the limit say, I don't even think
he makes this team. He might be one of those
cuts we see when that fifty three man roster comes in.
You go, dude, look, thank you for coming, but we don't.
We're starting the new here and you're old news. I

(56:32):
don't get that man, Get him out of there. Also
two more training camp news out.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
Here in LA. You know what the word is in
Los Angeles, man that charge your team.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
I don't want to do it, guys, but I'm telling
you right now, how would an All.

Speaker 2 (56:46):
LA super Bowl in LA look? Because it's very possible.

Speaker 3 (56:51):
And I'm gonna give you one name why they said
my man Jimmy Burgers Jim Harballs taking his hands off.
He's handing training cam over to Mike McDaniel and the
players are loving it. Derwin James's old record this week
and saying it is a different energy.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
It is fun. We're energetic office defense going at each other.
Offense are running things we ain't never seen before, and
we're adjusted to it. But this is where Harball does.
Let me give you a few names. When he was
in Michigan, he let Mike McDonald get his word in
and say a lot more. When Mike McDonald's was leading
that defense to the number one defense in the nation
and win a national championship. Who's that guy? Oh, that's right.
He coaches the Seattle Super Bowl, the Seattle Seahawks. They

(57:28):
just won a Super Bowl. Another guy name, I'll give
you right there, Mitzer. He let Mitzer talk a little more,
coach a little more in Michigan. Then he usherld the
man to that defense that moved it from twentieth in
the league up unto a top five defense. While he
was here with the Chargers.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
Where's Jesse at right now coaching Lamar Jason as a
head coach in Baltimore, replacing his brother.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
This is what Harball does. Man, he's starting to be
a coach maker. Sharon Maore messed it up, but Sharon Loong.

Speaker 3 (57:52):
Was another guy too that ended up being a head coach,
but he messed it up himself. But listen, I'm not
going to do it just yet, but I might be.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
I might be preview with a rams charge of Super
Bowl here in LA and so far how far would
that be? Last, but not least, last story. Monte Ellis
Is on the record a saying he could have been
what Steph Curry was for exactly.

Speaker 3 (58:12):
You guys should see my two time Hall of Papers
face the way.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
I said that, because I said the same thing, Monte
Ellis Son.

Speaker 3 (58:17):
Let me let me let you understand something. See, there's
levels to this. A lot of former players are coming
out on these podcasts. Now I could have done that,
Tracy McGrady, Why I could have done that with Shaq?

Speaker 2 (58:26):
Vince Carter?

Speaker 3 (58:27):
Why I could have done that with Shaq over Kobe?
Which is dirty work because the man is dead. He's
speaking on the dead man's day. Who can't defend himself.
For now, I'm seeing guys like Monte Ellis Son. You
are seventeen point career. They got rid of you because
they drafted Steph Curry.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
The only award you ever won was the most improved
Player one year in the league. You've never made an
All Star Game. You've never been thirteen second team, first seam.
This is an MVP, unanimously. This is a four time champion.
This is a gold medal winner. Here's the reason why
we got out of the lot of Olympics with the
gold medal. And you could have done what he done.
I'm so tired, Steve, of these former players. Revision is history.

(59:05):
I could have been this and I could have done that. No,
the hell you couldn't.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
It, because if you could have done it, you would
have done it.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
Uncle Vj's corner man.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
I want to get back to the Chargers here.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
Yeah, I saw your face when I said that. I
did that on purpose too. You see Monty Monty Guy, Monty.

Speaker 1 (59:22):
Got him to.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
Real talk, Dista healthy.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
This is justin Herbert's seventh season coming up in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (59:31):
Yeah, my man.

Speaker 1 (59:32):
So through six years, his regular season passer rating is
ninety six point three. That's pretty good. In his postseason career,
his passer rating is sixty four point seven.

Speaker 2 (59:46):
That means.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
What that means that he is way worse in the
biggest games of the year than regular season matter This year, Nope,
nothing until he shows me that he can actually show
up in a postseason game. That is going to be
a big question mark going to the Chargers. We thought

(01:00:07):
he was going to do it last year, He's gonna
do before and that team was so beat up.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Tackles both gone guard down. No we did not.

Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
We keep making excuses, excuse the explanation for Herbert when
we talk negative it is excuses.

Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
Wow, excuses, exclusory excuses don't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Losing both There's a lot of guys that have injuries.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
But look, your line got decimated. It is just like
the line second thing few years ago.

Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
Litany of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks that had to deal
with the injuries on their team and their whole line.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Now, no, there's not.

Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
Your pass were thirty points lower in the postseason.

Speaker 11 (01:00:43):
There is the regulars. The big l there's never been
in the postseason. In the postseason, we're talking about.

Speaker 9 (01:00:58):
Energy.

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
You see, this is Chris.

Speaker 12 (01:01:06):
I wouldn't even put justin Herbert is like in our
tops yearly exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Right, But I would have Jalen justin Herbert.

Speaker 12 (01:01:15):
How many guys playing a game, Steve, Oh, come on,
I don't know, I will not here, Come on, I
mean answer, what is the most important position in football?

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
It's not the only position. It isn't it's not the
only No, it is.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Not the you know why, because the only position in
football was they actually put a one loss record next
to their resume is quarterback.

Speaker 12 (01:01:36):
Yeah, and for a long time we put win loss
records next to picture the pictures, and we all woke
up one day and realized that was bogus.

Speaker 8 (01:01:44):
That for quarterbacks. You know what, they would have eventually
looked back at this like, actually shows up school, will
look like money that want his debut? What did his
offense give him?

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Chris Big?

Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
Yeah, I will ask me j run right Nowthon Berger
medium rare, all right, you got a big game ahead
of you. Who do you want? A quarterback justin Herbert,
Jalen Hurts? Who do you want?

Speaker 9 (01:02:08):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
I got to take Jalen because he's won them, thank you?
All right, But that's but that's an easy one. And
but most people said, well, Jalen Hurts isn't anywhere near
the quarterback that justin. Well, we all know how silly
that is, though, And I'm the pompo. Not everyone knows
the pomp Yeah, but people are you're defling Hurts versus Herbert.
When Bo Benson is basically when we sit here, most

(01:02:30):
people say, you know, say what are the top five
quarterbacks in the league. And they're gonna say They're gonna
say Patrick Mahomes and say Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and and.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Herbert and Stafford.

Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
That's my top five right now, that's my Joe Bright
Now then Joe Burrow, and then they would say justin Herbert.
You know why Burrow slipped out of my top five
because Burl can't stay on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
And nobody and nobody holds him it. I don't want
to hear.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Joe Burrow's post season record versus I don't. Apparently you
don't care about the games record. Two postseasons in his
six years three he's owing three in playoff games.

Speaker 12 (01:03:03):
Yeah, no, I'm not talking about Herbert James those games. Okay,
what when were those three games? What year were those
three games?

Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
Are you talking about Herbert? Are you talking about Joe?

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Talk about Burrow?

Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Okay, I'm talking about Herbert Burrow.

Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Now we moved on to Borough because Burrow's out of
my top five because Joe Burrow can't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
Stay on the fifty holds him to that.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
Okay, So you're making an argument who has had a
better team around them, Joe Burrow or Justin Herbert.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
Joe Burrows had much Justin Herbert's had a better defense
as Harball got there. Since Harball got there with Staley
was there, they were terrible. Joe Burrow's postseason record is
five and two. He has a postseason passer rated ninety
three point eight.

Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Yeah, he got three of those wins in one postseason though,
so let's not let's not act.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
Like that, Okaya, over four years, he was three and
one one year and two and one the other year.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Okay, So, like I said, he got him over two postseasons,
five wins over two postseason.

Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Because the only two years he had a rep presentative
team that could any defense.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
And get those are the only two years you can
stay on the field.

Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
There's no comparison. Joe Burrow is a much better quarterback
than Justin don't say it right, better quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
He he had those two years because those are the
two years his asked to even stay on the field.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Two years ago, concert twenty four, he started seventeen gasons.
He led the league in passing yards, touchdown forty three touchdowns,
nine picks. One year reads on a nine and eight season,
nine and eight season because they had the worst defense
in the league. He's not better than Justin Herbert got
he gets much better than Justin Herber. He's not Joe

(01:04:38):
Burrow is leapiers over Justin Herbert. Wow, all right, leapier?
God can't move.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
He's a statue, but he's leap years over Justin.

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Justin can't a big game? Oh God, stop, really show
me evidence, Give me an evidence?

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
That is that's your argument though big passing the big game?

Speaker 9 (01:04:54):
Yes or no?

Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Quarterback is about big games? Answer the question, that's it? Okay,
so then that's what we'll go make. Goes By does
something in a big game? Call me?

Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Are we Are we saying that about so it will
not be a Chargers rams suit? Are we saying that
about bow Nicks? Are we going to say that about
bow Nicks?

Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
This is not in the same conversation with Justin who
everyone continues to elevate based on what?

Speaker 10 (01:05:17):
So?

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Why does everybody continue to elevate Burrow.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Because he actually shown it. Look at the he has
the highest completion percentage in the history of the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
Why does that matter?

Speaker 9 (01:05:27):
What does that matter?

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
That matters?

Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
Completion percent Borrow is what number? Can you give me
something on Herbert? Anything on Herbert that stands out? Anything?

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Put the tape on. Man, You're you're reading at the.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
Table, seeing the guy's playing like dog meat game?

Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Are you're reading numbers? You're not looking at the tape.
You're not looking at the tape.

Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
Is not anybody out there, seriously, anybody out there that
believes that Justin Herbert is better than Joe Burrow?

Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Yeah? Everybody everybody in l A.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
No, really, I thought LA was about winning cherry. Everybody
in l Joe champion, you know, win a championship. Matthew Stafford,
Now that's a great quarterback. Yeah, is and I talked
about five quarterbacks. Why didn't you put Matthew Stafford on
the list?

Speaker 7 (01:06:10):
I do.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
He's in the top five. You're not listening. He's in
my top five.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Do you have Matthew Stafford ahead of Justin Herbert?

Speaker 7 (01:06:16):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
WHOA, it's interchangeable. They're four and five, So it's it's
interchangeable for me. Okay, So fine, okay, listen with Stafford.

Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
In the award?

Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
In fatuay? Is it all about Madison Beer? About Madison
Beer didn't get that lip job? She wouldn't look the same.
Have you seen the before and after pictures of her?
The Kardashian treatment football?

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
But am I right?

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
She knows You don't know what I'm talking about with
the lip thing.

Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Hey, Chris, I know, I know who my vege is
this year.

Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
I know, let's spin out, let's let's swine out with's
training right now? All right, so Monsey, you understand what
I'm talking about. She's even acknowledged it, right hold on.
I actually I did not know Madison Beer before she
started dating. Justin her she's got around since she was
a young girl. I don't know who she I know
she's I got the Kardashian treatment on her face. I

(01:07:11):
mean I'm looking at before. I see what you're saying
that she got her lips definitely.

Speaker 10 (01:07:17):
Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't say it's as bad as a Kardashian.

Speaker 1 (01:07:21):
It looks like her face. But yes, I can see
what you're trying. I did not know that. I did
not know that. Yeah, now, yeah I had. In other words,
you know what?

Speaker 10 (01:07:32):
Honestly, like, I as a that's my quarterback, right yeah,
that's my quarterback. But man, when when it's a playoff game,
he is quarter he has not lived up to the expectation.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
It's been disappointing. Like, I don't know what it is
he has not done it.

Speaker 10 (01:07:50):
I'm not saying he can't do it, but what you're saying,
J It's like, I think we're all waiting for that,
and it feels like we've been waiting for it for
years to be ahead.

Speaker 6 (01:07:59):
Of her Man.

Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
That just I just think that when you have those
type of offensive line and Dave line was decimated. But
we're putting that on Herbert. He doesn't have a Jamar Chase,
he doesn't have a team, he doesn't have those weapons
to throw the ball to.

Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
Okay, he does, but it's it's that he looks off.

Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
So I had the same argument about Matthew I testing playoffs.
It doesn't he doesn't pass.

Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
Listen, no problem, I'm but I'm I'm all chips in
on him this year, right.

Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
No. I said the same thing about Matthew Stafford all
the years in Detroit. I'm like, you know, how is
he in the CONFERENCEA? What has he ever done? But
he proved me wrong with the Rams. He won a
super Bowl, he won an MVP. Now I look at him,
he's absolutely Hall of Famer, no question, no question about
Matthew Stafford now. But as far as Herbert called me
when he's Hall of Famer, before he won the Super

(01:08:47):
Bowl with the Rams, he would not have gotten based
on his career with the Lions.

Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
That's to see. That's what's not once againstee. Now we're
moving the goal post for Hall of Fame again.

Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
If you put the tape on seventeen city, did he
benefited all from throwing the ball to Calvin Johnson?

Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
All great quarterbacks had great receivers, though.

Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
Right, not all of them have great receivers Stafford. Most
of the receivers that Brady had outside of Gunk were
pretty pedestrios.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
Who you guys called the greatest tight end of all time.
So you can't do that, Steve, you can't go out.

Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
He didn't have Gronk the whole time.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Well we'll starting.

Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
No, no, no, you're good, You're good. I'm loving the conversation.
It is football season. It is football season.

Speaker 10 (01:09:27):
Earlier today, it was reported that Lion's quarterback Teddy Bridgewater
told the team that he was gonna step away, with
retirement likely the reason. Yeah, yes, So Bridgewater is now
being placed on the reserve retired list.

Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
But Detroit has just signed Josh Thombs to a one
year deal with one point four.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Two five aad already thought to his agent what happened,
already talked ago, So.

Speaker 10 (01:09:53):
They already got another backup quarterback in Detroit, no problem.
The Panthers signed Kyle Trask as the third quarterback today
because the rookie quarterback Haines King is expected to miss
some time with a hamstring injury. Also quarterback Bryce Young
and the team starters they are gonna play in the
team's preseason game.

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
Saturday against the Bills. Head coach Dave kanal Is said today.

Speaker 10 (01:10:11):
The NFL Network is reporting that Bears wide receiver Luther
Burden suffered a groin injury and practice, so he's gonna
miss a little bit of time. Sad news out of
the NBA as Hall of Famer Don Nelson, a three
time NBA Coach of the Year, a five time champion
as a player with the Boston Celtics, has passed away
at the age of eighty six.

Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
Let's shift over to base a ball.

Speaker 10 (01:10:29):
Braves and Yankees underway in the Bronx Braves finally on
the scoreboard, I mean the Yankees aren't on the scoreboard,
but Matt Olsen put them on the scoreboard with the
home run. They lead the Yankees one nothing at the
bottom of the eighth inning. Chris Sale for the Braves
was ejected before the game because he was arguing with
the umpire about yesterday's bock call against him, so he
got ejected before the game even started. The Reds lead

(01:10:51):
the A's three to two top of the eighth inning,
Marlins over the Angels ten two bottom of the sixth inning,
Philly's on top of the Blue Jays at home five
to two after seven innings, and White Sox on a
range lay in Chicago. But Cleveland is up right now
to one and it's the top of the second inning.
The Brewers lead the Twins three to one. Top of
the sixth inning. Jacob Mizerowski has officially recorded his two

(01:11:11):
hundredth career strikeout or not career.

Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
His two hundredth strikeout of the season.

Speaker 10 (01:11:16):
He becomes the second fastest pitcher in MLB history to
do that in a single season. Spencer Streider in twenty
twenty two did it a little bit faster, but officially,
two hundred strikeouts for Jacob Mizerowski back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (01:11:28):
You know, you mentioned Spencer Streider and a lot of
people are like, who who was he? Is he still around?
I mean you're like, oh, who was it was? Like
Nolan Ryan, was it sand No?

Speaker 10 (01:11:38):
No, Spencer Strider, Yeah, strike he did it in one
hundred and twenty three and a third and a third innings,
while Jacob Mizerowski one hundred and twenty nine and a
third innings.

Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
We're gonna have John Paul Morosiano in the next hour.
I do want to talk about the miss situation. Strider
had that one huge year with a braid where he
is twenty and five to hundred and eighty one strikeouts
back in twenty twenty three, basically threw his arm out
and he's never been the same guy since, which will
also bring up my question about the miss coming up
with JP coming up in the next hour. All Right,

(01:12:13):
I love this passion about the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
I reasially do.

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
We're in the Fox Sports radio studios.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
There's so much trouble as fall well, you told me
you lad.

Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
By the way, mind everyone once again if you missed
it last week, so BJ laid down. We are going
to make each A pick is a team.

Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
We go down this stot so we're gonna do something
called all ruffle squad man, pushing all your chips, Get
all your chips, push them in the middle of Pick
a team that you're gonna that you like. It's not
it can't be your team, can't be your faith. That's
too easy.

Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
But we all like a player like another team, or
a coach or something like that, and we want them
to win as long as it doesn't affect our team.

Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
If you're a real football fan, long as it doesn't
affect your team, you don't mind seeing them winning.

Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Everybody's gonna pick one of those, and then we're gonna
have a shaking bait guy, going back to my Ricky
Bobby and my cowd in combination. A guy not on
your favorite team that you like, that you support, that
you want to see winning. That's your guy that if
your team's not doing, that's the guy that you you're
gonna ride within you want.

Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
To see Ben last year, for me, it was your door, Sanders.
I roseed your door. I took crap from everybody, didn't care,
and stood up every week. And when he didn't play well,
I said he didn't play well.

Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
When he did play well, I let everybody know about it,
even though there were people didn't think he was even
gonna make the team. Last year. We were gonna we're
not gonna go there to that, But that's that's what
we're gonna do this. I just think it's some fun.

Speaker 6 (01:13:30):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
We could throw it around and I already see what
was gonna.

Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
Get your Can you can you pick a player and
a team the same.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
Yes, if that's your choice that it does not have
to be It does not have to be different. If
you wanted to be the same team, that's your choice
right there. I personally have a team to scratch that out.
I personally have a player and a team already chosen.
But I think we'll probably wait till either next week
or we got the nice again towards.

Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
The seasons can happen, right, I mean, there's a lot
of preseason first. Maybe we'll do it the last because
it won't take long.

Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
We'll all go around, tell your team, your player and why,
and you know, we move on, so we can save
it for the last Sunday, all right before the Wednesday
night kick off, all right?

Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Coming up On the other side, I wonder what talk
about one player that we are expecting to see his
first taste of NFL action this week, and maybe a
little bit more than people would have expected this early
in the preseason. You'll find out who it is. Coming up.
This is Fox Sports Sunday, Harman and Husky Fox Sports

(01:14:32):
Sunday from the Fox Sports Radio studios. John Palm Morosi
is going to be joining us, coming up in the
next hour.

Speaker 9 (01:14:40):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
The great thing is not only do we have all
the NFL football coming up, but we got college with
I know well and you know, I was doing a
commentary last night on television here in LA about Lincoln Riley.
So USC this year has more returning starters than any

(01:15:04):
FBS school, fifteen nine on offense. They have a third
year starting quarterback in Jada Mayava who led the nation
in QBR last year, number one in the nation.

Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
They're they're expected to go far.

Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
They have the number one recruiting class in the nation.

Speaker 12 (01:15:20):
I was gonna say, and maybe this is me being
a little cynical, how much does returning starter really matter
in this nil transfer age? It like say, I know
that guys are playing together, but I also think in
an age like this that also speaks to that USC
just couldn't get guys.

Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
No, no, no, no, I don't, I don't. I don't
see that as a coach. It's trust me. It's going
to be good for them. This is the why, this
is why they did it. USC could get guys. USC's
got money. You your master's program is for your master's degree.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
It's from USCA. You know how much I know.

Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
I know that's who has no no, but I think
they I think no, honestly, I think what lacln Riley
thought was Okay, think about it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
This is what everybody's doing now. New guy, new guy,
new guy, niggatt.

Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
Let's try to go with the old model because we
feel like what we have and as we built from
last year what we have this year. You gotta work
these new guys in. It's not as easy as people think. Man,
it's not just ad wad and start sooner or later. Guys,
this nil jump is gonna start the pan out.

Speaker 12 (01:16:18):
You can be more semends right now like teams have
won right now with it. And I'm sorry Lincoln Riley
doesn't have the time for me to faugh about with him.
If he doesn't win this year, I want his ass
out the door.

Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Well, and here's the numbers on him. So remember his
very first year at SC turned things around eleven to
one to start that year with Caleb Williams. Yep. Then
they got blown out by Utah in the Pac twelve
Championship game and had the embarrassing collapse against Tulane and
the ball way I am so since the eleven and
one start that first year, his winning percentage is five
point eighty. His predecessor, Clay Helton's percentage at USC was

(01:16:49):
six fifty seven and he got fired. The reason that
he is still the coach is the buyout was still
over seventy million. That number has come down considerably this year.
I'll put it this way, He's.

Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Not gonna break.

Speaker 12 (01:17:01):
By the way, this this idea that we're just gonna
keep giving guys astronomical buyos.

Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Well, I think that once they get out of the
n C Double A, once they create, once they create
their all of coaches constantly. We don't have once once.

Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
Once they have once they decide to get away from
the n C Double A and create the College Football League,
which is coming. It's coming, guys, within the next five years,
they're gonna leave the NC to all these conference they're
gonna leave the.

Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
They're gonna make their own league. When that happens, then
you'll get out of those these buyout contracts and things.
But just just just real quick. One thing about the
NIO thing that you're saying, you're saying, well, teams are
doing it. They're winning now.

Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
If you go back and look Indiana, they brought guys over.
That wasn't Kurt Signetti's first year there. Like you brought
guys over, but it wasn't a guy that they brought
over last year that made like all the number one
the number one difference as far as the other scoops
the outside of mente Off James Madison team with them, right,
he brought it was like twenty something players, but that
was years prior.

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
They build up to that. What I'm saying about SC
is they have talent this year. Now it's tough as
hell because Oregon's loaded, in Ohio State's loaded. So it's
it's it's problem a coach.

Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
When you're losing close games consistently, that's coaching.

Speaker 12 (01:18:15):
I'm not picking. I've heard about how he runs his
defenses too, and that's just a.

Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Now you brought in a Hall of Famer. On your defense,
Gary Patterson, who's being inducted in the College Football Hall
of Fame, dis yere for his long run at TCU.
I'm sorry at TCU, and he is a great coach.
Now he's going to be defensive coordinator. So just our
excuse is a USC fan, just I am, because I've
heard this a lot too. It's like, I'm allowed to
have expectations.

Speaker 12 (01:18:43):
Watching Notre Dame sitting there a year after year, and
now we have an entire thing about Notre Dame not
making the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
And meanwhile USC is like, well, this is.

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Just life in the Big Ten.

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
You're USC exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
You can't, just, George, I have to keep doing this
with the.

Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
USC argument against is ridiculous because Oregon just joined the
Big Ten? How are they doing?

Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
And the's funny. I'm hearing this from you, guys.

Speaker 1 (01:19:06):
Oregon came such a power over USC and football.

Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
I'm glad I'm hearing this from you guys. I'm giving
you some props right now because I was saying this
to you guys two years ago when this whole Pack
twelve thing was shifting. I was on airson guys, it's
different than the Big I know you guys don't want
to believe that it's different in the Big ten.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Well, Oregon was running the PAC twelve. So you got
one team out of the PAC twelve that came over.
Washington's not gonna Washington is gonna keep getting their ass kicked. U. C.

Speaker 7 (01:19:33):
L A.

Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
Is gonna continue getting their ass kicks. There's gonna continue
getting their ass kicked. These teams are in.

Speaker 12 (01:19:38):
USA always disappointed, even still in the PAC twelve. Under Well,
that's because they would let Kyle Whiteham come in with
Utah and beat them up at the end of the year.

Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
Well, see if Kyle Whinaham can turn things around the Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
You already know what's going to happen.

Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
I am worried about Bryce Underwood, though I'm not I
am I'm not as confident in him to hear what happened.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
I mean, I'm real, what do you mean what happened here?

Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
Mit? Yeah, he was a high I just paid high
school player ever in terms of Nie But this is
the first I'm hearing of this. Well, because your concerned,
my concern is what I'm hearing, what people are seeing?
What are they seeing footwork.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
Really, they did bring in the quarterback coach from Utah
that molded all those Utah quarterbacks. We'll see, but I'm
holding reserve one and I'm not going to go out
like I was last year for Bryce Underwood. I come on, man,
I'm allowed to like be real.

Speaker 9 (01:20:28):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
I'm not a total numbers like you. I'm allowed to
be real.

Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
I am as real as they get. You want some
more real sports talk, It's coming up. This is Fox
Sports Sunday. Oh, it is that time, the month of August.
It's an interesting month. It's an interesting month in the world.
Is sports little dog days of summer as far as
baseball is concerned. Although John Paul Morossi will be joining

(01:20:52):
us coming year fifteen minutes, who do have some big
questions for him about the American pastime. And also, uh,
we got preseason football going on right now as we
get ready for the upcoming NFL season. Once again, we're
in the Fox Sports radio studios. I mentioned earlier VJ
that Mike Tomlin, who's going to at least spend one

(01:21:14):
year in the broadcast booth or hanging out doing his
analyst work, made a comment about a certain team. And
another reason I brought this team up is yesterday, Zach
Harper and I filled in on a show yesterday and
I asked him, because we did this last week VJ,

(01:21:34):
I asked him his current power rankings in the AFC,
right power rankings in the AFC, and he didn't hesitate.
He goes, my number one is New England, and I
was taken back, like, you know, I don't see anybody
listening New England. You know a lot of people look
at New England's schedule last year, which was the weakest
of any NFL team since nineteen ninety nine. How they

(01:21:57):
performed in the postseason, even though they were able to
get to the suit Super Bowl. Certainly offensively, they struggled
in that entire postseason with their offense. But also the
other factor with New England is the Mike Rabel situation.
And Mike Tomlin talked about this because they were asked
about the Rabel situation and he says, well, let's be

(01:22:19):
clear about this. The situation with he and Razzini will
pretty much fade away if they win, but if they don't,
they will never let go of that. The media, it'll
be on him all day long. They will force the
question like has this been a distraction for you? Is
this the reason why you're not playing as well as

(01:22:40):
you did last year? In a minute they lose one game,
it's not going to be a loser streak. The minute
they lose one game exactly. And that's my Tomlin's point.
You want to keep a story in the news. Lose,
you lose, or you're not doing as well as you
did a year ago. They're going to bring it up
and bring it up and bring it up. Whether he
wants to answer the questions or not, the media is
going to keep it fresh on his mind. So I

(01:23:00):
think we're sort of on the same page as far
as New England. Obviously, the Buffalo Bills are the betting
favorite to be the team in the Super Bowl representing
the AFC this year, which seems strange. It's also strange
as the Ravens are number two. Both those teams have
new coaches this year, but I guess they needed a change,
you know, by McDermott, by Harbaugh, now that you got

(01:23:21):
rid of those guys, yeah, we'll put you at the
top of the list. But what is your thought about
New England right now? As we get ready here. I mean,
we talked about the Washing Commanders and this one year
run that they got to the NFC Championship Game. Daniels
obviously had a phenomenal year, and then they had some
injuries and it completely fell apart. And now we're wondering, really,

(01:23:42):
is there anything to think other than what happened two
years ago was an aberration? Is it conceivable that what
happened last year with New England was just a perfect
storm and that it was just this one year wondered
team that we're never really going to hear from again
in terms of a serious one to get to another
Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
They have too many good players for that. Man, they
got too many good players for that. They have one
of the best safeties in football. I think Drake May's legit.
And you know, I don't have to be a fan
of the guy, but he's he's legit. He's a big, big,
strong arm quarterback. You know, he runs the offense. Well,
throw the ball. Well, I mean you got you got
aj Brown now, so you get you get a deep threat.
He throws a great deep ball, and now you got
a big guy that can go down and get it

(01:24:21):
for you. And that's what aj wanted in Philly. They
run the bellc ball roll with Stevenson. They Frabel's got
a defensive mind. It tough. Just because there's a scandal
doesn't mean they lose their toughness as a team. That's not.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
If anything, this franchise knows how to galvanize situations and
come together in situations and tune out the world. And
it's rooted in US against the world, Like the Patriots
are twenty five years of US against the world.

Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
This is nothing new for them. Now on the human
man side, if you got some players that kind of
want to take the role of well, I believe in
this and believe in that, and he's not upholding that. Yeah,
but if this is end of the day, we come
from the area you and I are. When you know,
some guys drink all night, some guys snort coke. Some
guy as a teammate, did you care? Are you gonna
help me win on Sunday? Like, I don't care what

(01:25:10):
you're doing, dude, I don't do that, and I don't
live by that, that moral compass and that creed. But
all right, so you snort some cold are you? Are
you gonna catch eight balls for one forty seven and
two touchdowns today because if you're gonna do that, I
don't really give a damn what you did last night.
And I think there's gonna be some of that, because
that's just human nature, just human nature.

Speaker 9 (01:25:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
Man, look, we're all man, da da da. But then
there's some whoa holier than out thou and I can't
believe he did this to his family, And you're gonna
get a little bit of that. But I think that
this franchise is rooted in US against the world, and
I just think they also have too many good players
to not be good.

Speaker 9 (01:25:45):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Buck Rising yesterday when I filled on him in a
fifth show, Yes, he picked him as his fallback. He
we did our fallback teams, and he found the team
in the league we think takes like big steps back
this year. Mine was the Bears. His was the Patriots,
and he thinks they take a big step back. This
is a big issue and the big problem. But that
same thing I said to you, I said to him,
they have a lot of good players. Man, it's hard

(01:26:07):
to just fall off with that man that many.

Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Certified dudes on the football field, because more than Drake
made a reason why they got to the Super Bowl again.

Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
These are the first four games on New Williams sketch,
and I know him. I got him at Seattle that
opens this Wednesday night.

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (01:26:25):
Then you have the Steelers at home, and then you're
at Jacksonville at Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
But they can't get both of those. They can get
both of those, they can they can get. We don't
know what's up with Jacksonville. I know that's probably gonna
be CPS, all chips, all ruffle squad. I know how
he feels about Trevor, but we don't really know about Jacksonville.
We watched Jacksonville win what eight to nine in a
row to finish the year, and then look like that
at home in the playoff game against Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
They could be won and three quite easily. You know
that they also be three and one quite easily. That
defense is mind.

Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
That defense is official.

Speaker 9 (01:26:54):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
I know the schedule looked weak last year, but that
you still put tape on it. You still see guys
flying to the ball, you still see schemes. You see
Christian Gonzalez is one of the best safeties in football.
He races a lot of things offense want to do.

Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
So this year, the AFC East is matched with the
NFC North, so that means they get Detroit at home,
they get Minnesota at home, they're at Chicago.

Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
When's that Chicago game? I need, Tommy.

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
That's Week Seven's alright, Thursday night, National TV, Thursday night game.

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
I think Chicago is that team that takes just a
huge step back because I don't believe.

Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
Well, they had so many incredible wins. I mean, Caleb
wins was it was games they won the last year
it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (01:27:40):
That's not even the stat the status, the turnover differential,
they were like plus seventeen last year. They're not going
to do that. That doesn't happen year to year.

Speaker 1 (01:27:47):
New England also plays at Kansas City, and we don't
know what Kansas City is going to be this even
though I'm sorry and they also play at the Chargers.
I'm frightened to right Kansas City off, though I really am.
Are you going to be at that New eng at
Chargers game? It's a Sunday night game on November.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
If it's Sunday night, I'll beat there covering it unless
not unless I'm doing other things. Not unless I'm doing
other things.

Speaker 1 (01:28:12):
I mean, it's it's not easy when you're in demand.

Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
When you're in demand, you.

Speaker 1 (01:28:17):
Gotta shuffle your schedule around, and then you have to
start prioritizing.

Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
It's difficult. I'll put it on our prayer list. God,
please help me handle all that.

Speaker 1 (01:28:25):
I'm sure. Yes, wait, as I'm looking at the schedule
right now, you know. And then let's get to Casey.
Right now, that's another team.

Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
I mean, you wrote them off, well you I wrote
them off before they got blown out in the Super
Bowl bull the Eagles because I predicted before that game
that they would lose by double.

Speaker 2 (01:28:47):
Digits to Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (01:28:49):
So I'm on record here at Fox Sports waiting with
that prediction that I nailed. And then I also said,
not only will Kansas City lose big to the Eagles tomorrow,
I believe I had the day before. This will also
be Patrick Mahomes's final ever Super Bowl appearance.

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Do you know?

Speaker 1 (01:29:08):
That's That's where I stood. And then they come back
with the losing season and he's coming off a big injury.
He's on on the field. Look, I don't want I
would love to see Mahomes. I am not anti Mahomes.
I love Patrick Mahomes as I've made the argument he
is the only true franchise quarterback in the NFL because
he's a guy that actually has won multiple Super Bowls.

Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
You gotta win with multiple Super Bowls to be a
true franchise quarterball.

Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
Well, franchises, not franchise. I'm talking about all time greats.
Everybody's okay, you know I want the all time I mean,
my definition of a franchise quarterback isn't just a guy
that shows up every year and says, oh, he's been
our starting quarterback for eight years. Yeah, what has he
ever won?

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Let me get us about the Chiefs though. So I
feel how you feel. I don't feel how you feel.
I understand, it's just say it that way. I understand
how you feel. But Vegas feels differently, Oh, Chiefs. The
Chiefs are number five of Super Bowl percentage. Yeah, so
they're the fifth rate team that in percentage wise that Vegas,
that Vegas has. And this is bat MGM, this is DraftKings,
this is multiples that have them in between four and six.

(01:30:10):
So you average that out, that's fifth right at a
plus ten eleven. They're number one by all Vegas books
to win the division. So this right off people haveing them.
And that's out of plus one ninety four. And I
think the Charge I have the Charges winning the division.
I think the Chargers take that division. I think this
is the this is truly their year. But this Chiefs

(01:30:33):
team you just can't write off.

Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
It's almost like the the villain and scream is I say,
you gotta shoot him in the head, like you you
haven't until you.

Speaker 12 (01:30:44):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Actually they were on their way probably to the seventh
c No. No, remember, Mahomes got hurt. Mahomes got hurt
in week fourteen, started fourteen games, he got exactly they
were gonna make the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
At six and eight?

Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
No, they were How are they gonna make the play
by winning more games? Six and eighth the end of
the season, Steve, No, they had more games?

Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
Kay, Then they finished nine and eighty. How was I
gonna make the playoffs?

Speaker 4 (01:31:09):
Why?

Speaker 7 (01:31:09):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
Nine and eighty?

Speaker 4 (01:31:12):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
All right, here's the thing about Mahomes. Okay, and this
is no knock on Mahomes. I understand this. He has
already earned the right to be in the conversation with
all time.

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
Greats at his position.

Speaker 1 (01:31:23):
All Right, but his first year as a start, he
threw fifty touchdown passes.

Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
Now, how's that possible.

Speaker 1 (01:31:29):
Well, when you've got Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey in
their prime, remember that two headed monster. We would make
the argument, choose your poison, which way are you going?
You can't double up on both of them and one
of them is going to kill you. And then he
continued on with these lofty numbers, putting up huge numbers.
If you look at the last three years, his numbers

(01:31:51):
have dropped off dramatically. Is it because he's a worse quarterback. No,
he doesn't have the same weapons. Okay, he doesn't have
Travis Kelcey in his prime anymore. The guy's sporting the
dad bod these days. He doesn't have superstar running backs,
and he certainly doesn't have any receiver that is anywhere

(01:32:11):
near the threat that Tyreek Hill was back in the day.
Those last two Super Bowls, I give an immense amount
of credit to my Homes because Tyreek Hill was gone,
but he still had Kelsey in his prime during those
two Super Bowl years. The problem is not Patrick Mahomes.
The problem is he just doesn't have a lot of
game changers in his offense anymore. That's the biggest problem

(01:32:33):
facing the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
True.

Speaker 3 (01:32:36):
True, but you don't believe in the Chargers now. The
Broncos aren't getting for some reason. We're not hearing a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
And they made a lot of offseason moves, included Trader
for Jaylen Wattle for my dolphins. So they added some
some speed and firepower. Yeah, the Raiders are gonna be bad. Yes,
I don't hear you talking much about the Bengals or
the raven We know the Steelers are not gonna be good.
I got before I start really discussing. The South is. Yeah,

(01:33:06):
I'm just throwing it, you know me. I'm ahead of
the game, man. The South is. The South can be jumbled.
This year, we saw what the coach did, but then
the bottom fell out and then here comes to Texas
with an eight game winning streak behind Jacksonville's nine game
winning streak to end the years last year. What's Tennessee?
I think Tennessee. I just love the coaching moves. Three

(01:33:28):
new big names in there. And if Brian Dable, listen,
Brian Dable, you're the quarterback whispers what they called him.
And he's turned guys around, He's helped guys get He
got Danny dimes paid. He fixed Josh Allen. We forget
the cam Ward is a number one overall pick, which
means people want to him over everybody else. And that's
what he has there. Saala is gonna do the defensive

(01:33:50):
side of the ball, and I think he's a great
defensive mind, play caller scheme. Look what he did with
that defense in San Francisco last year, holding that thing
together with chewing gum in a paper clip, with all
the injuries that they had last year.

Speaker 3 (01:34:02):
So when you talk about the Chiefs, I don't hear
a lot of love for other AFC teams. Somebody else
has got a.

Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
Spot up at the end and they don't know why
everyone's so down on Denver. I mean, I think we
are agreeing about Denver. If bo Nace had been healthy
for the AFC Championship game, you don't think they would
have beaten New England.

Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
But if I was an eighth wed all be hot
sc quarterback in that game, I don't I don't even remember. Okay,
I don't even remember. Jared Stenham was it was a sham?
Was he the quarterback? All right? All right?

Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
So there's a new stat that I really like in
measuring a quarterback's effectiveness. You're ready for this. It's called
the passing success rate.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
Here's what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:34:48):
It's based on the successful pass gains of at least
forty percent of yards required on first down, sixty percent
of yards required on second down, and one hundred percent
on third or fourth down. Number one all time because
they've done this retroactively. Number one all time quarterback is
Patrick Mahomes. Okay, okay, so that is that to me

(01:35:11):
is a good gauge. Okay, when you need to get
yards in a specific situation, are you delivering right?

Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
And in the case of Mahomes number one all time, okay,
I mean key, you argue it. No, I can't argue it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
I said.

Speaker 1 (01:35:30):
My knock is not on Mahomes. The problem is when
you're throwing the ball to somebody, they got to do
something with the ball at pedestrian running backs and they
don't have pedestrian receivers, and they have a tight end
that's hanging on by a thread. He got married, he's
moved on, he's got the dad bought all right, ready
on they go, all right, coming out from the other side,

talk about any subject matter every when it comes to

(01:36:32):
the world of sports and beyond. The great John PALMERROSI
JP is joining us right now. JP. I understand here
in Detroit, but why I want to steer you to Milwaukee,
where Jacob Mazerowski right now is dominating the world of
baseball as you have at this tender age right now,
leading the majors in era strikeouts, second fastest ever to

(01:36:54):
get to two hundred strikeouts in a season. The guy's
whip this year is point seven, having statistically one of
the most dominant years of pitching in history. And yet
I fear for a man that keeps throwing the ball
over one hundred miles an hour seemingly on every pitch.
What are the odds he can maintain this for any
extended period of time? Are you as worried as I

(01:37:14):
am that at some point that long arm of his
is just absolutely going to give out? Trying to throw
the ball over one hundred miles an hour constantly. The
body wasn't meant to do that.

Speaker 9 (01:37:26):
This is a fascinating question, Stephen VJ. And thanks as
always for the opportunity to be on the show. The
reality is this, no one has been able to do
what he is doing in quite this fashion. Remember he
is already in the pitch tracking era, which encapsulates this

(01:37:48):
velocity fueled time and the history of our game. He
has set a record for the number of pitches at
least one hundred miles an hour in a season. Adam
mcalvey has talked about this attlb dot com sixty six
pitches at one hundred plus and this is just it's unbelievable.

(01:38:09):
What he's doing, and when you consider the body frame
all of these things, he is a one on one.
No one's like him. The only thing that gives me
hope that he can keep this up and defy the
laws of physics, gravity, et cetera. And let's be clear,
pretty much every picture, at some point in time who

(01:38:30):
throws this hard breaks down in some form or fashion.
The human body doesn't do this into perpetuity. Okay, there's
a time limit on everything. But the one unique thing
about Miserowski, it's not that it's easy what he's doing,
but he has a very unique mechanical delivery and a

(01:38:52):
unique musculature, and the way that he strides so long
towards the plate and the distance that he is at.
Tom Berducci wrote a great piece about this, about how
basically because of his stride length, whatever the miles per
hour says on the gun, it's like two miles faster
than that, because of how close he is when he

(01:39:15):
actually lets go of the ball, like, yeah, the rubber
doesn't move, but the mis does, right, And so the
way that he utilizes his levers and his length and leverage,
all those things, they are more conducive than the average
pitture in terms of being able to keep this up now,
no one can do this forever. So the answer to

(01:39:36):
the question is, at some point in time, yes, he
will break down, because all pictures do, even Berlander does,
even Schurzer does, oh Toni does. They all do at
some point. But he has a chance to keep this
going longer than you might think, even though he is
very slight of frame, you could say in terms of
his his body composition. But the way he does it works,

(01:40:00):
and the way he does it is mesmerizing.

Speaker 1 (01:40:03):
Well, we also were talking in terms of Paul's schemes
over the first two years in the same breath, back
to back years sub two Eras.

Speaker 2 (01:40:10):
This year is Eras at.

Speaker 1 (01:40:12):
Three ninety six, and he's nowhere near as dominant as
he was his first two years in baseball. How do
we explain that mechanically he's.

Speaker 9 (01:40:22):
Not quite as aligned as he was in the past.
And Mark the Ross has talked about this on MLB Network.
It's small, It is so small, but when you are
at the elite of the elite, it's a fraction of
an inch of a hip turn, a fraction of an
inch on the delivery. It seems to me, and the

(01:40:43):
work is still there. I don't think it's an injury
per se, but I do believe that mechanically it's not
quite as in sync as it has been. That doesn't
necessarily have to be an alarm. He's still a really
good pitcher. He's still able to give his team chances
to win. It just seems like he's a little more

(01:41:03):
hittable than he's been in the past. Now some will
be quick to say, oh, it's the World Baseball Classic.
I'm not so sure about that. Yeah, he was ready early.
Yeah he pitched more innings than anybody else did for
the Americans, But I thought that in some ways that
would have helped him get ready sooner. Where he was
it seemed to me in midseason form earlier on in

(01:41:24):
the year. So I don't think it's a WBC. I
think it's a slight mechanical issue. And yet you look
at the Pirates, guys, they're still in this thing. And
in the National League, it's it's harder to be one
of those playoffs contending teams because everybody in the American League,
including you know, including your local semi pro team, is

(01:41:45):
somewhere in the playoff picture. In the American League right now,
but in the National League it's a more exclusive club,
and for now still that club includes the Pirates.

Speaker 2 (01:41:55):
Jpo Morosi are MLB insider Fox Sports Radio. Let's talk
of the Dodgers, man, because they just coming off of
a seven game losing streak, and you know what happened
the last time the Dodgers had a seven game losing streak,
they won the World Series. And I've been saying all
year long, I'm not worried at all.

Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
Lee's kind of closed down to eight and a half,
and it's got balloon as big as fourteen. You got
the bruise and you got the braves there. But is
there any panic what the Dodgers are? Is this still
just the squad that's probably gonna represent the National League
in the World Series? Part one of my questions. Part
two of my question is any alarm for show Hey
that he hasn't pitched this July third? And is this

(01:42:33):
a good thing or a bad thing for the Dodgers?

Speaker 9 (01:42:36):
So, Number one, they are not panicked. I was around
them this past week in Chicago. I did not sense
any panic. There's also, though, an acknowledgment that they're not
really clicking on all cylinders, and there's no real mystery here.
To your point, Otani hasn't pitched. Mookie is not having
a Mookie type season. Kyle Tucker, although he has gotten

(01:42:59):
going recently, has not had a great first year with
the Dodgers. They are dealing with injuries. Will Smith is out,
Rushing is out, Diaz was out for a while, came back.
He hasn't really been himself either, and so you're dealing
with some injuries in the rotation, You're dealing with some
imperfections in the bullpen. The lineup is not quite as

(01:43:20):
deep as it has been, and they needed that win
last night. It was amazing. Oh TONI delivers late. I
was thinking. I was actually as the game was then
fold last that I was saying, what am I gonna
say that, Stephen b j If they're sitting on eight
straight losses, and by the way that they've already fallen
behind early in the game today, Robleski continues to struggle,
So they don't seem to be panicking. But I will

(01:43:42):
say this, they are more vulnerable right now within their
own league than they were at this time last year.
And when I look at the landscape, I see a
better than fifty percent chance that the NL representative in
the World Series is not the Dodgers. Now, that's not
how I've taken my opinion, because there are other quality teams.

(01:44:05):
They don't have the best record in the league right now.
The Brewers have for a while. The brains are pretty good.
The Cubs, who I saw sweep the Dodgers this week,
they're really good. They're winning again tonight by a big margin.
So it's not so much that the Dodgers are flawed,
although they have some issues, and I think they're less
perfect now than they were a year ago, I would say,

(01:44:28):
And the rest of the league has gotten better, so
I think the league has closed the gap. The Dodgers
would come back to the pack a little bit. Yes,
they have Scooble, but they're vulnerable and they're not worried
about it, nor.

Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
Should they be.

Speaker 9 (01:44:39):
There's still this confidence about that they're the back to
back defending champions. But when I look at this team play,
I see pathways, especially with the Cubs. And maybe I'm
just basing on what I just saw in person this
past week, but the Cubs defend really well. They added
two starting pitchers at the deadline, they added some bullpen help,

(01:45:00):
They're athletic, they hit the ball out of the ballpark.
If the Cubs really get going, they're going to be
a nightmare for anyone to face in the playoffs. So again,
what I'm seeing right now is that things have closed
up a little bit for.

Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
The Dodgers, all right, very quickly because we're up against
the clock. But I sneak in one more question, a serb,
do you believe the P Crow Armstrong right now is
the current leader in the nl MVP race? And two
do you agree with P Crow Armstrong that Babe Ruth
never existed?

Speaker 9 (01:45:32):
Number one? I agree that PCA is the current front
runner for the nl MVP. If by the ballot right now,
he would be number one on my list.

Speaker 1 (01:45:43):
He does more right now.

Speaker 9 (01:45:45):
Again, Otani is a DH only still really good d
the DH only PCA on the basis defensively power hit everything,
five tools. So right now PCA is the choice, even
though even though I be real clear on this one,
I do not concur with his take about Babe Ruth.
That is not correct. But fortunately when I look at

(01:46:09):
the criteria, having a correct take on the Bambino is
not part of the criteria inviting for the in voting
for the MVP. So as a result, that's not part
of the criteria. You're free to vote for PCA.

Speaker 1 (01:46:21):
All right, very good. He is an embarrassment to Harvard Westlake,
great high school out here in southern California for somehow
buying into this conspiracy theory that the Bambino actually never exists.

Speaker 9 (01:46:32):
We got to check with Fred and Giolito to see
was this an erroneous part of the curriculum there.

Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
I don't know, it's an elite high school out here,
but some crazy theories are coming out of that high school.

Speaker 10 (01:46:45):
JP.

Speaker 1 (01:46:45):
We're up against great stuff. As always, We'll check in
with you next week. Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
You got it.

Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
Hey is John Paul Morosi. Yeah, I want to ask
you about that Pete Crow Armstrong thing. Babyrruth never existed.
Let's find out what's trending right now. Some of the
still believes there was I would imagine mons you believe
that there was a baby Ruth. I believe there was
a Babe Ruth.

Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
But that is hilarious, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:47:08):
You know it's funny because I thought when I saw
the original quote, I thought maybe just taken out of context.
Then I actually heard the interview and yeah, oh no,
he's all dug in on this like he's he said,
unpopular opinion. But it's an unpopular opinion. I understand. But
Babe Ruth never existed, never never existed.

Speaker 10 (01:47:24):
It's like, you know, and made me think. And this
one is more ridiculous. But after Bam bam at a
Bio scored the eighty what was it whatever?

Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
That, yeah, he says he didn't believe that Will Chamberlain
never scored one hundred in a game that was like
a lot of people came out and talked about that.
Any film of it, any film, there's no film, there's
no there's no record of it.

Speaker 10 (01:47:44):
And but this one, to say that baby Ruth did
not exist is like taking it to another level, not
just saying that he was not as good. You know,
he didn't say he was playing against plumbers. It was
probably underhand. That's not what he was saying. He was
saying he doesn't believe it.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
Front though, interesting though it is like you start, I
gotta be like, well, hold on for a second. I
mean I ain't never seen them, you know, and I
don't know nobody that's never seen them. I don't know
one person that was, like I remember when I saw Baby.
I don't know nobody that's ever seen Baby play like in.

Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
Person's You know, you can almost make the argument of
almost any person that has passed, Right, my parents have passed,
like did they actually exist?

Speaker 9 (01:48:30):
Sure?

Speaker 10 (01:48:30):
But I think like now, with with the way we
photograph and video, everything that's not going.

Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
To be the case, not going to be the case.

Speaker 1 (01:48:37):
There's proof, it's proof, right, Like now it's just like
people are saying there's no proof, but it's like.

Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
No, no video. George Washington crossing the Delaware River on
Christmas night, right, just surprised the breath.

Speaker 7 (01:48:47):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:48:47):
One president that did take a lot of pictures though,
is Abraham Lincoln. He was ubsessed, he was upset, right
obsessed with this photograph. He took pictures all who existed.
You don't know George Washington did, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
You know what I mean a lot of it.

Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
All right, Well we'll stay with baseball here, Fellas.

Speaker 10 (01:49:04):
The Braves avoided this sweep after defeating the Yankees two
to one in ten innings. It was Michael Harris with
the RBI single in that tenth inning to give Atlanta
the win.

Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
Right now.

Speaker 10 (01:49:14):
It's the bottom of the eleventh inning in Philadelphia, where
the Blue Jays and the Phillies are tied at five.
Phillies have a man on first and second and they
have all their outs to go. The Cubs lead the
Royals ten two. Bottom of the eighth inning, Brewers and
Twins are tied at three apiece.

Speaker 1 (01:49:27):
Top of the eighth in Milwaukee.

Speaker 10 (01:49:29):
Still on Arrange Lee in Chicago between the Guardians and
the White Sox, where Cleveland is up to one. Top
of the second inning, Cardinals lead the Rockies four to three.
Bottom of the seventh. The Orioles are up on the
Rangers nine three. Bottom of the sixth inning. About to start.
In Texas, Diamondbacks on the scoreboard first against the Dodgers.
They're up to nothing. Bottom of the second inning about
to start. Mariners lead the Rays one zero. Top of

(01:49:51):
the second inning. Nationals already beat the Red seven to one.
A's held on four to three against the Red Sox.
In Boston, Marlins crushed the Angels twelve to t three.
News out of the NBA sad news out of the NBA.
As Hall of Famer Don Nelson, a three time NBA
Coach of the Year and a five time champion as
a player with the Celtics, passed away at the age
of eighty six. When it comes to the w NBA,

(01:50:13):
because the Minnesota and Dallas team are playing right now,
Links are up forty seven to forty five at halftime.
In the NFL, Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is stepping away
from the team, likely because of retirement, so Detroit has
already placed him on the reserve retired list, but they've
already signed veteran quarterback Josh Dobbs to a one year deal.
The Panthers signed Kyle Trask is a third quarterback because

(01:50:34):
rookie quarterback Haines Kink Haines King injured his hamstring injury.

Speaker 1 (01:50:39):
On that game winning drive in the Hall of Fame game,
he's expected to miss some time. Back to you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:50:46):
Stuff, yes, that might get him cut.

Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
To which is don't say that now, I hear what
you're saying.

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Yeah, in preseason, if you fumble the ball or if
you get hurt, those are the two fastest ways to
not be on a roster to following week. Those are
two fastest ways. The other night, that kid that fumbled
that ball. They pulled them out of the game. I
literally looked at teams that you won't have a job
this week. That's terrible, I mean, because think about it.

Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
You're a third of four, you're a three.

Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Or four right now, the one and two's aren't even playing,
and you're fumbling as a three. Bro, You're cut. Sorry,
you cut, you get hurt in preseason.

Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
Again, We've talked about this many times. Going into a preseason,
going into training camp, on average, there may be three
or four spots up for grabs on every NFL roster,
three or four spots. Everything else is already set. Now.
Injuries can change that, obviously, but based on healthy players,

(01:51:42):
the decisions have already been made all season. They're already decided.
Now can that change in the preseason. It's so rare.
Usually when they're their decisions to be made on three
or four positions, it's what they say day in and
day out in practice. That's that's where they're going to
make their decision on base what they see day in
and day and.

Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
I'm practiced, it's not a flash play in the game.

Speaker 1 (01:52:04):
The idea exactly honestly, as I said, I remember how
the Raiders used to navigate the preseason again, our rosters
were set. I remember one time we had a running
back named Dan Reader. You're ready for this, Dan Reader,
the guy's name, right, And we went to Cleveland in
a preseason game and this guy looked like Larry Zonka

(01:52:26):
Hey was running over people, running away, and we're like, Wow,
this guy's great. Can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
Got to cut two days later. Okah.

Speaker 1 (01:52:34):
And by the way, he never really caught on with
anybody else. I mean, it's like, what that was great?

Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
No, but you just said it yourself.

Speaker 3 (01:52:39):
It was a preseason game, like the game is not
going to override every day we see people whenever people question, man,
why would they trade that guy?

Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
Why would they cut that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
I've always been of the of the of the opinion
of look, man, they're with these guys every day.

Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
They see how they show up, they see how they
We hear the great stories about Kobe Bryant, right where
Kobe with people.

Speaker 1 (01:53:00):
You know, he was a ball hog.

Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
He's not gonna pass the ball, it's not gonna this.
And then we find out later in life from Byron
Scott and other people, Hey, the reason why he was
like that is because he would tell guys, listen, I
saw what time you got here, I saw what time
you left.

Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
I saw during the breaks in practice you were on
your phone. Why would I pass you the ball late
in the game. I was the first here here in
the last one to leave and was locked in, dripping
in sweat all practice long, and you lollygagged through it.
So people that see people every day is where those
decisions are made. But that's why I'm going back to
King Listen. It was a great game and a great play,

(01:53:34):
but you can't get hurt as the number three quarterback.
They're gonna You're not gonna make that team is the
number three quarterback. There's a lot of guys that can
sign and bring in as the number three guy.

Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
I don't think. I didn't think he was gonna make
the team anyway. With the Panthers in one of the.

Speaker 1 (01:53:49):
Games I'm looking forward to this week preseason is the
Raiders expect Mendoza to play quite a bit. I don't
know what to do. I mean, Neil with the Kirk
Cousin situation everything else, So yeah, I mean I to me,
I will give him as many reps during the preseason
as I possibly can, and and just getting a sense

(01:54:09):
of Mendoza might No, obviously I don't know him personally,
but just getting a sense of him, I would imagine
that he wants as many reps as he possibly can get.

Speaker 3 (01:54:19):
Week two, start Kurt and then bring Mendoze in because
you got to get Curse on work. With the first
preseason game, I start Mendoza and I tell him, listen,
you're playing the first half, so so just go play.

Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
I mean, we're not gonna pull you no matter what happens.
You could go out here and throw three picks in
the first half. You're just gonna throw three picks in
the first half, but we're not gonna pull you. I
give Jins some run too. I'm not sure if i'd
have him in.

Speaker 3 (01:54:41):
Street clothes, maybe two or three carries, just to just
to give Mendoza a good guy behind him. I wouldn't
put Mendoz out there and then put my number three
running back out there. I don't think that'd be smart.

Speaker 1 (01:54:51):
Preseason interesting that the Raiders open against the Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (01:54:55):
Well it's always regional, you know, they always kind of.

Speaker 1 (01:54:57):
Stay understand they have a game under their belt.

Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
Yeah, well that's what you signed up. But you sign
up to play that game Becauselarry Fitzgerald's going in the
hall right.

Speaker 1 (01:55:05):
That game is going to go Thursday, by the way,
and out at Allegiance Stadium. Have you been at Allegiance Stadium?

Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
Yeah, it's beautifus are great.

Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
It really nothing nothing such as so far got my
heart right now. So far is crazy, man, so far
is crazy. So far is huge. And when you have
to walk in where you get me started? Well mine
have been. Man, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:55:26):
I've never been in the press box. I don't have
that like you do. I'm just sitting out there.

Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
I'm just taking my boys in regular seats. Hey, listen,
shout out to the sofa people too. That's the best
buffet that media gets to eat. Really, there is garbage,
and yeah it is garbage. It is, though, But the
food that the don't you treat your fans like you
treat the media.

Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
I ain't gonna lie, man. The Lakers are two, but
the the Rams and Chargers number one.

Speaker 1 (01:55:55):
Because the food they're selling the fans is just.

Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
What's that's every stadium stop being there, just drink.

Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
It's not every stadium. We ever go down to Pecko Park.
Some of the greatest food I already eating. You ever
had their try tip nachos? Holy crap? That's good. All right,

(01:56:42):
listen live. All right, We've had a very busy show
today and the week's ahead as we get thoroughly into
the preseason. Now now again, I'm just curious, so when
we get into preseason. One thing for the Hall of
Fame game, it's a standalone game, so you can spend
a little extra time of that. How is it you're
gonna break down these preseason games? So how much are

(01:57:03):
you going to watch these games?

Speaker 2 (01:57:05):
All of them?

Speaker 3 (01:57:05):
I watch every preseason game because NFL Network reruns every
preseason game, so you'll get to whatever your local area
is gonna put on, which is normally for US Chargers
Rams in Dallas and un Raiders.

Speaker 2 (01:57:16):
Those are normally the four and the nine Ers. Those
are the five teams that Southern California is gonna get.
And then of course then they're gonna start warming up
their TV crew. So we'll get our we'll get it.
We'll get like.

Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
Thursday due the Hall of Fame game was this Sunday
night cruise. So we'll get a Monday night game. We'll
get Buck, we'll get Akman for one Monday night game.
But I will go back on NFL Network. My DVRs
are said.

Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
I will literally spend my late nights of watching all
of the I think it's like sixty five of them,
I believe. But I will watch every preseason game.

Speaker 1 (01:57:42):
All right, So I need a prediction from you because
if this is going to happen, it has to happen
like now, Aaron Donald joining the Rams, Oh yeah, he does.

Speaker 2 (01:57:51):
I mean it's got to happen.

Speaker 1 (01:57:53):
Now. You're not gonna wait till the week before.

Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
The season started. Not only that, the fact that he
was out there the fact that he went out there
and I guess try out or worked out. Dude, you
want to play, they want you back, You're going to
come back. I still just my thing was if they
didn't get Miles Garrett, would you be coming back? That's
just my thing about it.

Speaker 1 (01:58:10):
And well, I don't again, I I do not understand
his motivation to come back.

Speaker 2 (01:58:14):
I mean second ring.

Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
Well, but it has a ring.

Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
I know he's not second.

Speaker 1 (01:58:20):
Getting a second ring is not going to change his legacy.

Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
You don't know that it's not changing his legacy.

Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
He's already he's already acknowledges literally one of the greatest
defensive tackles in the three time defense every year, All Pro,
every year he's been out for two full years. Let
me ask you this, we'll change his legacy if he
comes back and he's subpar and the Rams don't win

(01:58:48):
a Super Bowl? Is that going to hurt him? By
tagging that onto his career resumes.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
He's going to make him look a little silly for
coming back in it'll make it'll make him look kind
of silly for coming back.

Speaker 1 (01:58:57):
Well, I'll give you a guy they did try that,
and his name was Red White. Now Reggie White retired
after winning Defensive Player of the Year his final season
in Green Bay, going out on top, and then he
sat out of here and decided to come back, and
he came back one year with the Carolina Panthers. He
actually started every game that year. He was unrecognizable from
the player that he had been. I mean, I don't

(01:59:20):
get it. I mean, you walked away from the game
with your mind sound, because every time you walk onto
that football field, you put your body at risk.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Listen, you've said yourself every single time you walked on
that argument, because you've said yourself that even if you
played this sport, you would milk it. It's a less drag.
And now you're questioning thing.

Speaker 1 (01:59:41):
And I said, is also is that ninety nine point
nine percent of players do not voluntarily retire from sports.
Aaron Donald is a rare exception.

Speaker 2 (01:59:51):
Right, he can do it for a second time if
he comes back and plays this year and then retires again.
He did it on his own.

Speaker 3 (01:59:56):
He wasn't forced, and so retire. I just I've answered
a question. I saw him out there practicing. We all
saw him this whole workout thing. Try out whatever word they.

Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
Want to use. He's gonna problemly, he's gonna be back
and listen. It's whatever with me.

Speaker 6 (02:00:10):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
The team is loaded as it is. We'll see if
they can finish the.

Speaker 1 (02:00:12):
Job this year, thirty five years old. Young man's game,
young man's game.

Speaker 9 (02:00:20):
Well he does.

Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
I just don't want to. I don't want to see
any tarnish on what was one of the greatest careers.

Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
I don't think they could be any tarnish on it,
on it.

Speaker 1 (02:00:28):
God bless everybody, all right, great stuff is always VJY.
We want to thank Monsie. We wanna think, yeah, Chris,
we wanna thank Garrett, give me there. On Fox Sports
