Speaker 1 (00:00):
Please don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Living the dream once again here on a fabulous Saturday
day before the big Game.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
This is Fox Football Saturday. And well, I'll tell you
one thing. We are getting ready for a matchup that
absolutely no one could have predicted before the season, and
now we are here. It will be the New England
Patriots going up against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl sixty. Now,
if I read this right, this is the first Super
(00:36):
Bowl matchup in more than forty years featuring two teams
that had preseason Super Bowl odds of fifty to one
or more. This goes back to Super Bowl sixteen when
the forty nine Ers and the Bengals faced off at
the old Silverdome out there in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Outside of Detroit, that we had.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Two teams preseason Super Bowl odds at better than fifty
to one actually matched up in the Big Game. And
as we've been talking about this game over the last
couple of weeks, and no one has covered it.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Like us here at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Lot of the guys, ladies, everyone, all the gang up
there hanging out in the San Francisco area. The thing
that has dawn on me personally and I have watched
every Super Bowl since super Bowl two. That's right, super
(01:34):
Bowl two, we didn't even call the super Bowl back then,
was the AFL NFL championship game between the Packers and
the Raiders back in the day. And I have covered
on site Super Bowl twenty six Super bowls over the year.
So I've done a lot of these over the years.
And as we get ready for this matchup between the
(01:56):
Seahawks and the Patriots, all I'm reminded is the immortal
words of the late Gray Pete Roselle for thirty years
the commissioner of the NFL, because his dream was parody,
Like a dream season for him was every team going
eight to eight back in a sixteen game schedule. And
(02:18):
I've asked this question of a lot of people, both
here at Fox Sports Radio my TV work over the years,
about the word parody, like it's parody a good thing,
you know, where everyone's the same and anyone can have
a chance to win a championship, it's parody a good thing?
(02:38):
Or are you better off to have a dominant team
or a donovan individual in an individual sport over team? So, NICKI,
as we get ready for the show right now, It's
great to see you. How are you, Nikki?
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Fresh off of Thank You, I'm great and just got
back from San Francisco my first ever radio row week
Oh sports radio.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Well, I'm glad because, like I said, I did twenty six.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Of those and so my gosh, you deserve a breather.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I deserve a breather. I don't do it anymore. I'll
ask again.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I'm very anxious to find out how it was up there,
but I do want to start the show today because
we only have a couple hours here.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
We got a life by the way, Yeah, I mean
are you Are you a fan of the idea?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Because again, this is the first time in forty five
years that we have a matchup of two teams that
had preseason Super Bowl odds of fifty to one or more. Okay,
so we no one could have predicted, obviously a matchup
between Seattle and New England in the Super Bowl, at
least preseason. So if this becomes the norm, and remember
(03:40):
in the NBA we've had seven different teams win championships
over the last seven years, are you a fan of
parody versus having a dominant team or a dominant a
dominant individual like Tiger Woods back in the day, or
a Djokovic or Federal attentions, whatever, it's Serena Williams in tennis.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
What do you think is better for.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
A Well, I don't. It's interesting because what is better
is is a you know, very subjective like term, right,
because you can look at dominance and inevitive. Inevitability is
excellent to watch and you're always reflective on the reign
(04:20):
of Tiger Woods, of Michael Jordan, of you know, Lebron
James always in the finals. But I, as a fan,
love the unexpected. But that's how I like consuming sports.
I know that some people do love watching goats and
dynasties unfold lifetime, right, But I like it when it
doesn't seem or when it's anyone's ballgame and it doesn't
(04:43):
seem like, hey, you know it's it's going to be
the Chiefs. Now who's going to meet them? And we
know Chiefs are going to walk away with it, all right.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
See.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
My feeling is this, when you have a dominant team
or a dominant individual in a sport, it creates the upset.
To me, the ultimi, the ultimate to me in sports
is the completely unexpected. If the Seahawks win tomorrow, Okay,
they were favored.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
If New Zealand wins, it's not like about it, there's nothing.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
There's not really an upset because you know, Seattle was
a team that didn't even make the playoffs last year either.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
There really is no upset.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
To me, the excitement in sports is when you really
get an upset. And just like when the Giants upset
the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl, like that was
like unbelievable, like I can't believe this is actually happening,
And you don't get that with parody. If everybody is
pretty much the same, then you take the upset element
(05:41):
out of the equation, which to me is the sexiest
thing in sports. Nothing to me gets me more excited
than a true Do you love.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
The first round of March Madness for that reason? Sure?
Speaker 5 (05:54):
I love.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
I love it when you see, you know, the Cinderella
stories start to percolate. But I get what you're saying.
I think maybe when you look at the context of
this NFL season in particular, where it seemed like every
game was a kind of a game like oh, is
this the breakout moment for this team? And it ended
up being like two weeks later, it's like, oh, or
(06:17):
is that team even good anymore? You know? And so
I get what you're saying in terms of creating the platform.
The table is set when you have one dominant partner
and who sets floor or who sets foot on the
floor with them to dance? Are they going to shock them?
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Right David and Goliath?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yes, exactly, So that.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I mean, that's where I'm at.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Look my attitude about this game out quote Tom Brady,
I don't have a dog in the race?
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Right?
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Why were people upset about that? What was he supposed
to say?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
He's an owner?
Speaker 2 (06:51):
He's an owner of.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
The Raiders, right, he's also a national broadcaster, so you
have to be impartial there.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Not playing.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
And the idea that he has a loyalty to the Patriots,
the team that let him go at the end, I
mean it's like, what does he owe the Patriots?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
He and all the Patriots anything?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
People just are looking for reasons to be angry.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Okay, So now I want to get into this whole
idea that you're up there all right? So yes, and
I don't want to bring this up my good friend
for many many years, Chris mad Dog Russo, Okay, this
is a true story.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
I love true stories from Steve Hartman.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Okay, I'm going to give you a true story, Nikki,
as I always go back in time.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
As you know, I do this kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
So super Bowl twenty five, that was the Bills Giants.
The Scott Norwood missed field goal that was the first
of the four straight Super Bowl losses for the Bills.
That game was down in Tampa, Florida. The Giants were
in the game, and they had a new show on
w FAN radio that had started the year before called
Mike and the mad Dog Mike Francesa and Chris mad
Dog Russo and we are starting the first all sports
(07:55):
station on the West Coast. And so we feel like
we got to be there at the Super Bowl, Like
we're going to fly to Tampa, Florida for a game?
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Really?
Speaker 2 (08:05):
And they, yes, Harmon, you're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yeah, We're gonna send you to Tampa, Florida because we
need to we need to create this illusion that we
are an all sports station. And if we're gonna be
an all sports stations, we have to be at the
Super Bowl. I said, Okay, where are we gonna where
are we gonna do the show? There was no such
thing as radio row obviously in those days, but we
did know Mike and the Mad Dog we're going to
be there because the Giants were in the Super Bowl,
(08:29):
so they're covering from the New York aangle. So we
try to find, well, where are they doing the show from?
I remember was that the top of an escalator in
a hotel. So they had a table set up and
they had a few chairs, you know, for some of
the Giants.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Fans that wanted to hear what they had to say
about the game. So we set up a table right
next to them. I mean, if we figured, you know,
they might get some guests. Maybe we can sort of feel.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
The origins of radio row that you're telling me.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I was in Arizona a couple of years ago, last
time I was around Radio Row or now it's Media Row, uh,
and I saw Chris and we we always say that
was the birth of radio row.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
One table next to another, and right there it started something.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
And the next year we're in Minneapolis and now there
was like five or six tables and it just sort
of grew from.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
That founding father of radio row in flesh all. Wow.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
So but I'm anxious to find out from you, because
I want to get plenty of here because you were there,
so I want to get a lot on this all right,
So first of all, your first time in this see there,
I know there's a lot of podcasters now, used to
be just radio stations. In fact, for years and years
and years, you know, I'd see the same people over
and over again. Now you know last time I was there,
(09:38):
which was down in Phoenix, for it was four years ago,
three four years ago. Just a lot of new face
everything else. So what was your what was your first impression?
Was it something you expected? It was a more less.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Than well, it was interesting because now brands are also
getting involved with their own sets, right, and it's it's
there's a lot of production going into this. And I
was impressed by the quality of some of the sets.
Our Fox Sports Radio set looked iconic. But then like
Bleacher Report had a huge stage with like Carnival Games
because they realized that interviews got tired of standing there waiting,
(10:12):
so they made fun things for guys to do. I
was I was really impressed by it all. I did
hear that a lot of people said it wasn't as
chaotic and crazy and it felt smaller than it had
been in years past, So I don't know if they
made it more difficult to take it out.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Well, I guess the question is, so ten years ago,
last time the Super Bowl was there, I was at
that Radio Row and those were, you know, pre COVID
days when they still had there were thousands of people
walking through, Oh wow, all over the place. So you're
you're literally in the midst of people. I mean they
were sort of sequestered, but you know, there are thousands
(10:50):
of people sort of walking around the whole Radio Row area.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Was that the case here?
Speaker 4 (10:55):
No, it wasn't thousands, it was there was a very
mellow call energy. Nothing for netic people were I mean,
no public access, so it was all just media members
athletes walking around. You know, It's so funny. I don't
in the flesh. I'm not in a lot of football
locker rooms consistently. I you know, i'd say more in
(11:17):
NBA and MLB locker rooms, but obviously watching the games
and with football, because they're wearing helmets, you don't see
you guys. And so I had a hard time, like
I was like, wait a minute, is that is that
so and so easy?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
You don't know football guys, I mean unless they're a quarterback,
and obviously we see their faces all exactly.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
But you know, it was really cool having you know,
I met fre Danda Mendoza, Fred Warner stuff by the set.
He was awesome, Like everyone was in a really good
mood too, So it was really cool having having a
presence there being in an all female led show with
Alex Curry or Fearless leader Carmen Vitali, Tracy Sandler and
(11:55):
so just really really cool being part of the conversation.
Speaker 3 (12:00):

So what's your favorite Super Bowl snack? Like? What do
you look forward to?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
It's amazing.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
I'm literally about to asking booth on this one.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Okay, here we are talking about this, and by the way,
tomorrow VJ and I we're gonna run down prop bets
like there's crazy, like we have sixty of them. But
we also talk about food because everyone has a different
setup for Super Bowls. My feeling about this is this, Look,
I'm a wings fan, uh huh, but to me, it's
wings and pizza.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Yeah you can't. I mean, you get if you have.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Pizza, there's got to be wings. If there's wings, there
has to be pizza. It's they're together.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
Doing an ad for peptobysmal now like geez well no,
I mean, but is that is heartburn highway?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Well?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Maybe well no, not maybe about well not everybody douses
their wings in the literally atomic level sauce like you do.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Wait, are you gonna have the my tie bars rocking
and rolling tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Absolutely.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
I've already got a bottle pre made of what's called
jasper stock for plantersons.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Okay, okay, So Nikki, uh he was asking you during
the break you said you might be hanging out with
a friend to watch the game.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Give us, give us the lowdown. Come on.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I like dips. I'm a big dip personal and I
love I love like a celery and carrot, you know,
combination of just dipping into whatever I want. I like, Yeah,
I love crudita and chips. Oh, glacamole, I love glacka.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Okay, well now you're talking about different chips.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Yeah, or you can even mix up the crud to
tay and dip it in like the buffalo chicken dip
you know.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Okay, Yeah, we're talking to tell you.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
This exactly, exactly, all right, what are you guys having
on deck?
Speaker 2 (16:35):
All right? Bo, have you chimed in yet on your
quisine for tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (16:40):
If given that I don't have a dog in the
fight tomorrow much like Tom Brady. Yes, yes, I don't
really care. I'm not I I honestly forgot the game
was even tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
Last year, there was nothing in my nothing. My stomach
is pt for alcohol.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Well, first of all, goals were ready as I was
predicting a double digit win for the Eagles last year
against the Chiefs, who came true. Uh, you were living
the dream last year, and so you know what this
guy did. This guy is an Eagles fan, and after
after the Eagles blow out of the Chiefs the next day,
he's already like we need a new quarterback and we
(17:16):
need a new coach.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Was super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
What are you looking forward to?
Speaker 2 (17:26):
That's what it's Martin got here, Martin, how about your
day tomorrow?
Speaker 8 (17:31):
Well, I'll start with the dirty child I te you know,
maybe taking that.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
I'm going to get hungry right now, but during the.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Game, whatever my wife wants to eat.
Speaker 8 (17:41):
Honestly, what I'm looking forward to is a little break
from football, you know, a little reset. A lot of
stuff happened, We have so much just happened in the NFL.
Sam Donald is at the Super Bowl and he's not
like doing interviews on radio row. He's about to play.
He's a favorite for Super Bowl MVP.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Right now. We need to sit with that as a
as a nation.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Martin, you mentioned that I said this before before the
playoffs actually began. Okay, so we had the number one
seed in the AFC was demp and the number one
seed in the NFC was Seattle Nikki, and I asked
this question of everybody. I said, for a moment this
before the playoffs began. Can you picture Sam Donald hoisting
(18:25):
the Lombardi Trophy? And I asked the same thing about
bow Nicks. You know, the two number one seeds. Can
you envision bow Nicks hoisting the Lombardi Trophy? Can you
envision Sam Donald hoisting the Lombardi Trophy?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
And the answer was unanimous, No.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
I can, I can envision Sam bow.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
No, well, now Sam Donald's looking good. Before the playoffs,
you were a believing believer in Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Yeah, before the playoffs, yes, you were. I think it
was that regular season game against the Rams where they
prevailed in overtime.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Where he did come back, and obviously that.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
I was I was like, oh, these guys are contenders,
not pretenders, and trust me, as a UCLA Bruin, I've
been inclined to doubt the likes of Darnold throughout his
career well.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
As a fellow Bruins as we are UCLA.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Obviously, Troy Aikman went through Super Bowls with the other
UCLA quarterback that got to a Super Bowl, Billy Kilmer,
leading the then Redskins to the Super Bowl again.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Everybody since color TV was invented, Yes.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
That back in the day.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
That was the undefeated Dolphins wrapped up their undefeated season
against Billy Kimmer.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
More about Charbonnay's injury, but he's a Bruin.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Absolutely, But this is the first time that a USC
quarterback has ever started a Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
It's crazy and the same the same for Drake May Yeah,
UNC first time US quarterback.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
And they've had other quarterbacks, but yeah, all the SC quarterbacks.
You think about it, this is the first time a
USC quarterback has started the Super Bowl and this is
so don't say you don't have a horse in the race,
mister Trojan. You guys, we gotta be both.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
I'm very Sam Donald tomorrow. As much as I don't
want the Seahawks to win, I will be rooting for
Sam Donald tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (20:08):
I think it less about rooting for the Seahawks to
win and more about not wanting the return of Patriots fans, right.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
I was like, come on, can we get a little
bit of a more extended break from.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
No, there's someone in kindergarten who is in the Boston
area who's never seen a Patriots Super Bowl. Way, it
took all of a week for Patriots fans to remind
everybody how annoying they are. It's pretty spectacular.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Well, I mean, I mean to put in perspective, this
is the Patriots twelfth Super Bowl, I believe, which is
four more than any other team has ever been to
the Super Bowl. And but here here's something on the
other side. I want to get into this a little
bit more. Obviously, we had the MVP Award announced, and
you know, the controversy wasn't so much of Matthew Stafford
(20:53):
edging out Drake made We knew it was going to
be a close felt right, But the fact that somebody
voted for Justin Herbert. I mean, is there any justification
in your mind you're one of the fifty people that
gets to vote for the Most Valuable Player award? Josh Allen,
I could see getting a couple of votes. Yeah, I
mean yeah, I mean he talked about a guy carrying
a team as far as he did.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
But the one guy when.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
You consider there was a one vote difference in terms
of first place votes between Stafford and May who is
it was Stafford? And by the way, I'm gonna explain
that whole thing on the other side when we have
a little more time. But yeah, I definitely want to
get into that with you and the awards. We'll also
talk a little bit about the Hall of Fame coming
up with that big announcement this week. But the justification
(21:41):
of And by the way, the guy that did vote
for Herbert had been writing up Herbert all season long.
If you actually had read this guy, had ever heard
of him. He had articles all year long talking about
how the Chargers had lost both their offensive tackles and
how he was more valuable to his team than anyone else.
So it wasn't like the guy came out of the blue.
He pretty much gave you a preview of his vote.
(22:04):
He had said he was going to basically lean toward
Herbert as the most valuable player.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Interesting, can you see any way to justify Justin voted
the most valuable player?
Speaker 4 (22:18):
And that just seems like irresponsible when you're you know,
bread crumbing all season long like that.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
People want to strip them of his vote. I mean
you think that you think a stupid vote like that
is if he should be suspended doing.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I get it when, like, you know, there's funny fan votes,
you know when you write it up for the All
Star whatever, and it's like, how did you know Matthew
Della Delavadova get a vote for NBA All Star Weekend?
But it's funny, But it was something like that.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
I'm glad you mentioned that.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
If you ever go to NBA dot com after they
announced the All Star teams. Like the starters, they're literally
almost every single player in the NBA game gets a vote,
not from the media, not from the media, from the players.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
That's so funny.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
I think players like, do you tell me seven NBA
players voted for this guy?
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Guy literally sits on the bench.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
I think like Enniscantor might have voted for himself at
one point. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
You know, it's just by the way they're voting for
starter in the All Star Game, not voting for in
the off.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
There's a difference between All Star and you know, career
defining awards like an MVP season. You know that one vote,
that one vote can make all the difference.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
I could. I mean, we don't know if Drake may
will ever get this close again.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
All right, Before we get to all of that, though,
let's find out what is trending. Weise sounds like he's
got his big day set for tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I like it. I like it. So you're ready to
sort of put a cap on this football season? Yeah, yeah,
I'm ready to.
Speaker 8 (23:43):
You know, we've been in the movie theater now for
four and a half hours. It's been an epic, don't
get me wrong, but like I'd like to stretch my
legs a bit. See what people do on Sunday at
one o'clock Eastern, like Mayo a little brunch.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
What a concept.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
I opened the show, Martin, I talked to you as
a usually do. I just walk in and start talking
to people. Martin barely puts up with me. Actually a
little more receptive today because I think I hit a
court talking about this parody thing, you know, getting two
teams that obviously no one predicted before the season could
be possibly matched up in the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Are you a fan or you're not a fan of parody?
And let's just keep it to the NFL.
Speaker 8 (24:20):
I'd say I am a overarching I have to say yes,
But I think that this is an unattended consequence where
I like, this could be like I was telling you earlier,
this could be the first episode of a three part
trilogy between cause me, these teams are set up, they
really shouldn't be going anywhere when you look at contracts
(24:40):
and so on, like, there's no like last ride feeling
to this situation. It also could just be one of
those one offs, you know, like you know, I know
The Rams obviously have improved since, but like Rams, Bengals
felt kind of a one off super Bowl and then
Rams computedy like later on down the line, but in
staff forgetting the MVP.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
But yeah, I don't.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
I am rooting for Sham Darnold here, and I think
if you're not, I am either from the Northeast, which
I understand they're like either you're a Jets or Patriots fan.
But like the redemption story of it all, I think
it's something that everybody should be able to at least
get behind.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Well, if he does win, he'd be the first quarterback
to win a Super Bowl playing for his fifteen.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
That's what I'm saying is like Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
And this resilience, literally this this kid has had the
thickest of skins.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
They see a lot of revision is history. How could
the Jets have let him go because he was terrible
with the Jets? Yeah, right, like you know he was
terrible as why and.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
So the Jets are a terrible organization? Sorry.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Bigger question is why did the Vikings let him go?
Speaker 8 (25:40):
No, that one that answers is why the Vikings let
their GM go? Because not only did miss there, he
also missed on Daniel Jones and you can't miss that badly. Yeah,
speaking of former Vikings quarterbacks, this one might be the
next Viking quarterback. But Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins effected to
be released before this art of the new league year
(26:01):
in March, allowing him to choose where he wants to
play in twenty twenty six. That coming down from Adam
schefter Steve Hartan is looking at.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Me I the Vikings, do you bring him back? I
don't know. I think JJ would love to see him back.
I think JJ would love to And not talk about that, JJ,
I'm talking about wide receiver JJ man. Did you see
what he said? You know what?
Speaker 5 (26:22):
You got to get through this?
Speaker 2 (26:24):
All right?
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Update into just let me just get to this theoretical
convery NBA real.
Speaker 8 (26:30):
Quick, because there is a game active right now. Are
two games active? Only one is close. The Thunder have
a forty.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Nine to forty three lead over the Rockets. No, the
ched Holmgren in double digits case a while into.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
Double digits, Shay Gildas Alexander obviously not playing for Oklahoma City.
Is he's going to be out toil the rest of
the All Star break and looking at Tarry Easton and
reached Shepherd with ten each. So reach Shepherd burn Jared
McCain on a layup earlier today, Jared McCain making his
OKC debut after he was traded from seventy six ers.
Two minutes left in the first half there and the
Nets lead the Wizards by about thirty in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
All right, Martin, thank you so much. You're welcome, looking
very good.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Thanks all.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
We'll talk to you a little bit later on once again
here Fox Football Saturday, Steve Harb and Nikki k with you.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
All right, this MVP vote. Nikki, here's what I explain.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Explain it to me, because you've got some insight.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Well, I mean.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Again, this argument about the season that Drake May had,
those Drake May proponents of why he deserves it more. Okay,
I think the postseason has sort of exposed some of
the inflated numbers for Drake May this year.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Let's put it this way. We know that New England
this year.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
It's a matter of fact that New England's strength of
schedule was the weakest of any.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
NFL team historically easiest.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Since nineteen ninety nine, third easiest by the way since
nineteen seventy four, I mean crazy, all right. So his
regular season passer rating this year led the NFL one
thirteen point five. In three playoff games, his passer rating
is eighty four point zero going against good defenses. That's
(28:11):
almost thirty points less in the regular season. He completed
seventy two percent of his passes in the postseason fifty
five point eight. And by the way, New England has
yet to score twenty points in any playoff game. They're
high as eighteen in three playoff games. That's the most
points they have scored. So they've been going against better
(28:34):
defenses in the postseason and Drake May has been exposed.
He's also been sacked five times in each of these
three playoff games, and he's fumbled the ball six times.
So I mean, the fact is Drake May and New
England took advantage. And by the way, give them credit,
they won games they should have won against the easiest
(28:57):
schedule the NFL has seen of any team since nineteen
ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
But if you're going to compare.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
The schedules of Drake May versus a Matthew Stafford who
played in the NFC West, that's you know, a difference
than the AFC East.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
And don't tell me about common opponents.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
You know everyone's trying to downgrade Stafford for the bad
game he had against the Falcons. Well, look at Drake May.
They played against the NFC South.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
No, no, no, stop, I'm talking about totality of their schedule.
There was no comparison. The Rams played a much tougher
schedule than the New England Patriots.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
The numbers were comparable and so I believe they got
it right in my opinion. Nidy Abison on Hea what
you say that Stafford should have been the MVP.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
I do think the narrative and you know, I know
these awards are not based on narratives, or they're not
career achievement awards. I do think the stage was set
for Matthew Stafford to have a incredible comeback from an
injury that had us doubting if he was even going
to play at the beginning of the season, and then
to have the productivity that he did have the Rams
on the brink of playing in the Super Bowl. Excellent.
(30:04):
He was my MVP. However, I will play a devil's
advocate here and just as you say, May's numbers have
been inflated, buoyed by their strength of schedule. Matthew Stafford
had Sean McVay. Matthew Stafford had Puka Nakuah. Matthew Stafford
had Kyron Williams. He had one of the best offensive
units surrounding him, that one that he's had the comfort
(30:27):
of playing in for years. Drake May to have his productivity,
to not have the genius of a McVeigh, and to
still have that success in his second year. That's when
you look at those numbers and yes, he did have
the edge in a lot of statistical categories that are significant.
And if you're really going to dive in, I think
you can make the case for May.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Okay, it's not a knock on Drake may phenomenal year.
When I hear the Puka Nakouah argument, I laugh and
I always say this no disrespect, but Cooper Cupp had
one of the greatest seasons top five seasons of any
wide receiver in the history of the NFL. Who is
his quarterback that year, Matthew Stafford. So is it conceivable
(31:12):
because Cooper Cup's never been that same receiver since is
it conceivable that Pooka nakou is actually a creation of
having Matthew Stafford throwing the ball.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I don't know he threw a guy.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Too, Calvin Johnson in Detroit who became a first ballot
Hall of Famer. Then he comes to La Cooper Cup
has one of the five greatest seasons any wide receivers
ever had triple ground of wide receiving and Super Bowl
MVP and Offensive Player year. And now Pooka Nakoua, this
seemingly obscure wide receiver becomes a superstar.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
What do they all have in common? Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 7 (31:50):
We also don't talk a lot about the wide receivers
that don't hit this all star status but look awesome
when Stafford is throwing to them, Like say Kenny Galladay,
who got a very large contract from the Giants that
everyone thought was going to be the next Megatron because
of how well he was playing. That was all Golden Tate.
People thought Golden Tate was doing wide receiver one status
like Aquan bolden at Is, like in his final year
(32:11):
in the NFL was having a renaissance with Stafford throwing
to it.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Does anybody believe Phoka Nakua put up those kind of
numbers with any other team in the league.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
The thing that I don't get about the supporting cast
is that it has legitimately never been an issue before this.
I've never once heard it until a golden boy from
the East Coast was up for MVP. Like, I'm sorry,
Tom Brady won MVPs throwing to Randy Moss, Patrick Mahomes
won MVPs throwing to Travis Kelsey.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
I mean.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
It before, it hasn't the end of the day, Stafford
played a harder schedule and put up better rowstats than
Drake made it.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
That's look, and I understand and again this is Nikki.
This is not a knock on the.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
I mean I was if I voted, I would be
voting for Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
I will also say too, like, I know there's some
consternation over the vote that went to Josh Allen into
the one to Justin Herbert, but like, I am not
convinced that those are just we just automatically count those
to say, oh, yeah, those would have been Drake May
votes or something. I know I disagree with that, but
there's this like narrative that like somehow May was.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Party Pat's advocates in that.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Again, I mean, I could go over a lot of
MVP votes a little different now because they expanded the vote.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
It used to be you just vote one, one vote.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
That's only in recent years that they now say, well
you got to give a first, second, third, fourth, fifth
place vote, so the votes are more spread out.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
So I really only look at the first place votes.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
But I remember when Tom Brady was in, I thought
he should have been the MVP over what was it,
Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
I thought, actually, Brady had a better season.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
So there's a lot of controversy, and why don't we
take non quarterbacks more seriously when we talk about.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Most valuable player? Again?
Speaker 3 (33:54):
You could make a really good argument then in many ways,
Josh Allen was even more valuable for the Bills this
year than he was last year when he was the MVP.
So I mean that's I guess Nikki. I would ask you,
what is your definition? And the most valuable player? Is
that the best player on the best team.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
How do you do that?
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Christian McCaffrey absolutely the most valuable place.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Because we said before the season about the forty nine ers,
I go, the only way the forty nine ers are
going to bounce back this year is somehow some way
McCaffrey stays healthy, and he did, and they are back
in the.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Playoffs and it's the same. I mean then you look
at like the Coach of the Year candidates, right and
it's like what Kyle Shanahan did with one injury after
the next. Absolutely he deserves to be in the conversation.
I personally would. I think what Mike McDonald has done
in Seattle makes him worthy of.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Oh, it was from a coaches standpoint when Cohen did
in Jacksonville before the playoff. Obviously Ben Johnson in Chicago,
and there were a lot of very viable Coach of
the Year candidates all right. On the other side, all
the controversy surrounding.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
The Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Ooh, I'm gonna explain some of it to you, and
what changes should we expect in the selection process. We'll
break it down. This is Fox Football Saturday, Steve Harman,
Nikki k with you Fox Football Saturday, and yes, we
continue the countdown for the big game tomorrow, Patriots and
(35:20):
Seahawks Super Bowl sixty. Much more on the matchup and
some interesting trends from a gambling standpoint that you might
be interested in. Not that we're promoting gambling. But we
recognize that's what you're looking for the Hall of Fame,
and I wouldn't say it was a fiasco in terms
of I mean, obviously everyone's talking about Belichick and Kraft
(35:43):
now getting into the Hall of Fame. But I got
to explain this briefly, Nikki, why this happened.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
So last year.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Up until last year, the way it worked in the
selection of the Hall of Fame class was this. They
would have basically the contemporary care category five. They would
cut from fifteen to ten, ten to five, and then
they would vote on each of those five guys individually,
like all right, give a name, eighty percent of the vote,
they're in, and for years and years, all five will
(36:13):
get in. You got to that final five year in
they would do the same thing with the coach, contributor
and even the senior candidates. They would be voted on individually,
not against each other. But they decided, and this was
pressure put on by certain people like Dion Sanders, that
there were way too many guys in the Hall of
Fame need to cut back. So they decided, all right,
(36:33):
well then we'll we'll pit them against each other. So
we'll take the contributor, the coach candidate, and the three
senior candidates, and you vote for three out of five. Well,
if you do simple math, getting eighty percent of the vote,
well you can only vote for three out of five
is near impossible. And what has come out is a
lot of the guys feeling that, well, of course Craft
(36:54):
or Belichick, they'll have many opportunities to get in.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
So I'm going to give these three senior play.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Vote, so this might be their one chance to be
one of the finalists for the Hall of Fame. And
enough people did that where I don't think any of
them got eighty percent. In that case, only the top
vote getter would get in. In this case, it was
Roger Craig, the former forty nine or running back, who
I do believe is a worthy Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
And that's what happened.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
And so unless they change this rule, and from what
they're saying right now, I don't think they're going to
change the rule. But this is three straight years that
no contributor or coach has gotten in. Last year was
Mike Holmgren that was victimized by this system. Now it's
Bill Belichick, and so the Hall of Fame seems dead
(37:42):
set on keeping the classes smaller. But until they actually
separate the contributor and coaching candidates from the players, this
could repeat itself for years and years and years, And.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Then isn't there also the likelihood that, you know, Belichick
could be back coaching.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
There were probably a few reasons why maybe some people
would lean. I mean, I think I gave one reason
because they wanted to give these players an opportunity to
get in, because it might be the only chance they
get as a finalist. But you're right, everyone keeps bringing
up spygate to flake Gate. I don't think that was
a major factor. I do think, like you just said,
the idea that he might come back to the NFL,
(38:23):
and it's not unprecedented by the way, Joe Gibbs had retired,
got elect to the Hall of Fame and then came
back to the then Redskins to coach after he'd already
been in the Hall of Fame. Paul Brown did that
when he left the Browns and in with the Bengals,
so it's not like it hadn't happened before. But yeah,
I mean, there were probably a few things. I'm sure
there's even personal bias because let's face a, Belichick treated
(38:44):
the media like crap. So these personal biases come up.
But the question is is he is he going to
be the one coach candidate next year? What about Tom Coughlin,
What about Mike Shanahan, what about some of these other
coaches They're still waiting for, you know, their opportunity to
even be mentioned as a finalist for them.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
I think the system needs to be fixed.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
I do well. First of all, here's here's how I
do all hall of fames. And follow me on this.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
This idea of like tenth ballot, twentieth ballot. You know
Roger Craig thirty three years after he last played, forget that.
First of all, my idea of a hall of famers,
I give you a name. If you have to think
about it, it's not a Hall of Famer like it
should be like this, Tom Brady Hall of Fame, paid,
Matt Hall of Fay.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
You know, Aaron Rodger Hall of Fay.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
You know, if I have to think like you know,
Ben Roethlisberger, because he's on the list next year, Eli Manning,
that's not a Hall of Famer in my eye.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
But here's how I would do it, all right, five
years you're retired.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Your stats aren't going to change, right, you've seen I
imagine if you're on the committee to select you, you've
done your homework, right. You got five years to decide,
and you only have first ballot guys. And I'm a
big believer in second chances. So if you don't get in,
then that five years, lady, get one last chance. Now
you've had ten years to review their career. Are they worthy?
(40:08):
If you're not still convinced the guy's a Hall of Famer,
then he's not a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
None of this.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
You know, every year fourteenth forget that. Two chances, that's it.
Five years. Wait, vote, they'll make it five more years.
Second chance, that's it.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
And you still divvy it up with the eighty percent.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Yeah, whatever whatever standard you want to do with the
eighty percent is fine with me. And I would include
all of them together, coaches, contributors, players all in the
same mix.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Are there's Steve NFL Honors voting No, sorry, Hall of
Fame voting by Steve Hartman.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Well, I just think it's easier, and I think it
really takes the guests work out. I mean, again, if
I have to think about it. If you throw a
name out at me and you say, well no, then
you're not a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
All right. Coming up on the other side, we got
some interesting numbers that could determine which team comes out
on top of tomorrow's game. This is Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 3 (41:07):

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Top of your screen.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
For many people out there that are not gamblers, now,
I know there's a lot of people that bet, you know,
on a daily basis, weekly basis, whatever may be, wager
a lot of money during the course of a football season.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
I get that.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
But there's a lot of people out there, Nikki that
the only time they ever bet on anything, it's like
Super Bowl, It's like it's the.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Ultimate whares, the squares.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
The prop bets like this, all right, so you know
again tomorrow VJ. Husky and I are doing five hours
to get you all step for the game tomorrow. We're
gonna have like sixty prop bets. I guess one of
the prop bets that a lot of people like to
jump on is the UH the anthem.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
How long will it take to sing?
Speaker 4 (42:16):
The nation has been hitting in recent years, so.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Basically it's usually around two minutes. It's like a two
minute you know.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
So who is is it Charlie Pooth?
Speaker 3 (42:26):
It is Charlie Pooth doing the anthem this year national anthem?
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Are you familiar with Charlie Pooth's.
Speaker 4 (42:34):
Yes work, Yes, he's had some good pop songs. I
would I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Does it seem like a guy that will drag it
out a little bit or get through it?
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:42):
I think he's an He's a quicker. He's a quicker. Yeah,
so you would wager unders I would hit the under Interesting.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Here's a here's a little fact about the UH super
Bowl games in recent years. The last three years, the
underdog has one straight up.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
You're like, wait a second, the Chiefs won too.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
Yeah, guess what When the Chiefs played the Eagles in
Super Bowl fifty seven, they were a one and a
half point dog to the Eagles. They were one and
a half point dogs. They won that game straight up.
Against the forty nine Ers. Two years ago, the Chiefs
(43:25):
were two and a half point dogs and won the
game straight up. And then last year the Eagles were
a point and a half underdog against the Chiefs and
of course blew them out of that game. So the
last three years the underdog didn't just cover.
Speaker 4 (43:42):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
The underdog won straight up.
Speaker 4 (43:45):
Isn't it a point and a half underdog like a
pick them?
Speaker 2 (43:47):
Basically, Well, technically the answer is yeah, no, But I mean, yeah,
I know what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (43:53):
Say yeah, yeah, but I get what you're saying. Also,
that's very interesting.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Well, if you're thinking about so right now, the spread
is four and a half points, right, So actually, if
you look back, the underdog has covered the spread in
the last five Super Bowls. In fact, Tampa was a
three point underdog against the Chiefs when they blew them
out in the Super Bowl in Super Bowl fifty five.
The only favorite to win the game out right in
(44:19):
the last five years was the Rams, but they were
four and a half point favorites against the Bengals and
they only won by three. So if you're looking for
a trend, and by the way, this has never happened.
We're five straight years the underdog has covered in the
Super Bowl. So this is a trend over five straight years.
(44:39):
And by the way, the idea of three straight underdogs
winning the game outright, that has never happened in the
history of the Super Bowl. So just take a pause
right there when you look at this Patriots team as
a four and a half point dog. By the way,
here's another interesting stat. First time we've ever had a
(45:01):
Super Bowl where both teams were top four in the
NFL and both scoring offense and scoring defense. So on paper,
this is an amazing matchup when we really look at it,
when you look at the Patriots, if they're going to
win the game, how's it going to happen?
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Besides scoring more points?
Speaker 4 (45:25):
Yeah, but what has to happen disrupt Sam Donald's flow.
They got to turn him over.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Right, He's got to become the turnover machine we know
Sam Darnald can be, and which was very possible because
if there has been a strength in this postseason, we
mentioned the offensive numbers.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
There has been no Patriots offense in this postseason. They
haven't scored more than eighteen points in three playoff games.
Drake May is completing only fifty five percent of his
passes in the postseason after completing seventy two percent in
the regular season. Now, granted they went against the Chargers,
they went against the Texans and the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
Those are three really good defenses. Guess who also has
a really good defense, Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
So he can't turn the ball over. Drake May has
got to play better if they're going to beat the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Right, But when you're facing the Seattle Seattle defense, so
they'll task it is a tough task.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Yeah, But somehow, some way, Drake May has to play better.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Is it possible?
Speaker 3 (46:26):
I always go back to the Super Bowl, the first
Tom Brady win. So that Super Bowl was January two
thousand and two, was in New Orleans. I was down there.
It was really weird, Nikki, because it was right after
nine to eleven. Security was out of control. I mean
it was understandably, but it was out of control. So anyway,
(46:48):
we had Hank Stram, the legendary Hall of Fame coach
of the Chiefs, super Bowl winning coach, and he would
come on every year.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
He was a broadcaster at that point, and he would
he had this like full roof way of picking the
Super Bowl winner. He had like twenty five different stats.
He would, you know, throw into the computer and come
out with a winner. And we'd had him on for
several years and most of the.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
Games were pretty predictable back in those days, so we
weren't gonna give him that much credit. So anyway, the
Rams were like two touchdown favorites in that game. They
were two years of moved from winning the Super Bowl.
The Patriots had this completely unknown quarterback. They should have
lost their first playoff game on the tuck rule, and
they got a break in that game, and so they
were fourteen point underdogs. New England was fourteen point underdogs.
(47:34):
So we're talking to Hanks Ram. We go he what
tell us what the commuter said?
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Hanging wah, Yeah, I gotta put all the numbers in,
and so I've got the New England Patriots winning the game.
Like what, coach, you better put the numbers back in.
There is no way, no way, no way, the Patriots
are going to beat the Rams. None. They're zero. It's
Kurt Water, it's Marshall Fall. They just won the Super Bowl.
(48:01):
They are It's not even close. And what happened.
Speaker 3 (48:05):
New England won the game and Tom Brady became a
legend leading the game winning drive for the vinitary a
Field them. So I certainly can't dismiss New England by
any stretch of the imagination in this game, if any you.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
Can never you can never count the Pats out. In fact,
I think they use that as their their fuel, honestly.
And he does give me a little bit of a apprehension,
I guess when I like, everybody seems to be picking
the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
So everybody, we did something on LA TV.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
They talked to Dodgers players. Every single one of them
picked Seattle. And I'm like, I don't.
Speaker 4 (48:46):
Know, weird because something seems off. It's like too easy.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
Too easy.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
I'm with you, Yeah, I mean, just like New England
came out of nowhere this year, so did Seattle. Yeah,
I mean, I you know, I was listening to Jonas
you know a little bit earlier today on his show,
and he was talking about the fact that he was
one of those people when they decided to part ways
with Gino Smith and replace him like Sam Darnold. And
(49:13):
he said at the time, and I think we all said, like, well,
that's that's sort of a lateral move.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
I mean, it's okay.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
He got rid of Gino, who's been pretty good the
last couple of years, and he replacing him with Sam Darnold,
Like you think that's going to be a real boost
to your team.
Speaker 4 (49:28):
Sam Donald once again proven people wrong.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
Including the playoffs over the last two years. He's thirty
and seven, yep, but there is something about this New England.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
Yeah, and it's the Verbel effect.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
I'm with you on that.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
I mean, vrabel I covered obviously super Bowls. When he
was a player, he was always that guy. He was
one of those guys you could tell this is this
guy's got a courting future. He was just an overachiever
type guy and he just felt like he got it.
I love the way he interacts with his players. You know,
he's a big, you know, raw, raw guy. He gets
(50:06):
in their face.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
He never standing still on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
He is up in it and he's just a positive
vibe for this team.
Speaker 4 (50:15):
He'd be the first ever to win a Super Bowl
as a player and as a coach with the same
organization correct us.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
And the thing the way he has handled Drake May
this year, because Drake May has made mistakes, like he's
had a games. We obviously we were here every Sunday
covering games, and he would make, you know, red zone interceptions.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Like dude, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (50:37):
And then you'll remember, like Okay's it's really his first
full year as a starter. But you can tell that
he has such support from his coach. He doesn't dwell
on it. It's like you can see, you know, this
is like the certain coolness and quarterbacks like you know,
they don't get like Joe Montana was the ultimate like this.
(50:59):
You know, if he had a bad game or bad throw,
it didn't FaZe him like okay, the next play, you know,
And you get a sense with that with Drake May.
So even if Seattle were to force an early fumble
or an early interception, I don't think it would have
any real adverse effect on Drake May.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
And I think that's a lot because of the way
he's treated by his coach, Mike Frabel.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
I think Frabel the way he has led the not
just Drake May, like the entire organization and you know,
the infusion a belief in the Patriot way. Right, It's
just still mind boggling to me how brief the Patriots
rebuild actually was from complete dominance, dynastic, you know, takeover
(51:47):
of the NFL and what it was like five.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
Years well and even beyond that.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
And the reason is, and this is where Bob Kraft
really deserves more credit than probably he has gotten over
the years. And I'm disappointed he didn't get in the
Hall of Fame. You know, the guy's in his eighties.
I mean, he belongs there. But the one thing that
always set the Patriots apart from every other franchise in
the NFL and how they were able to maintain it.
(52:13):
Yeah they had Belichick, Yeah they had Brady, they had
other players.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Is admitting you made a mistake.
Speaker 3 (52:20):
They were the kind of team you could use a
high draft pick or maybe a high price free agent,
and if it did not work, they would cut their
losses immediately.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
And that's what happened with Mayo from last year. You know,
you bring in.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
This guy and you're like, well, it's a really fair
he inherited a mess. He's only been there one year.
Come on, give the guy an opportunity, and they are like,
we should have hired Vrabel in the first place, and
he's still available. We're going to go and make a
change now. They couldn't have predicted Ego from four to
thirteen to fourteen and three.
Speaker 4 (52:52):
But he understands in action quickly before he got picked up.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Successful organization, those that are consistently successful have a culture.
The Patriots have a culture, The Steelers have a culture.
These are franchises that know what they're doing. Forty nine
Ers have a culture. There's certain franchises and Vrabel understood
the culture. Obviously, you get Josh McDaniels, who, you know,
(53:19):
not a hell, not a good head coach, but he
knows how to run a Patriots offense and he knew
how to and I was happy to see for Josh McDaniels.
He named assistant Coach of the Year in the vote
and he deserved it, and Rabel was Coach of the Year.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
He deserved it.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
So I mean the idea that they were able to
rebound as quickly as they did once they sort of
put all the people back in place that understand the
culture of the Patriots, right.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
Magic, magic, But yeah, you're a Craft does deserve a lot.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
Absolutely, Bob Craft knows how to run an organization. He's
the best owner in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
Yeah, with a white that's three years younger than them.
A he's doing good things.
Speaker 4 (54:03):
I don't hat on age gaps, No.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
Not at all.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
All right, coming up on the other side, we'll continue
on as we get ready as well.
Speaker 2 (54:13):
Nikki was there, I mean she was there. I want
to get more into it.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
It was so much fun, all right.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
I want to hear more stories exactly what's going on,
because everyone else wants to know.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
You were lucky enough to be there all week, you
know what.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Steve, I was so thrilled to come back and sit
alongside you in person.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
Thank you, Nick. Well.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
I want to hear the stories. We got plenty of
them as we get ready for the big game. This
is Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 2 (54:36):
Steve Harvor, Nikki Kay here Fox Football Saturday, getting ready
for the big game tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (54:42):
Oh, we got a skiaplon going on here? Are you watching?
Are you a Winter Olympics fan?
Speaker 2 (54:52):
All right?
Speaker 3 (54:52):
I'm not a Winner sports fan because I really have
never I've lived my entire life in southern California. I
know that a lot of southern California is I'm to guess, Nikki,
you are someone that has done some scheme.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
I probably my best athletic skill set is snowboarding. I Uh,
my parents got me started very young. We grew up
going to Mammoth time and time again. And when you
learn young, you're fearless. And that's how I I ski
or snowboard now. So I think if there was a
sport I could win a gold medal in, you know,
with training, it would be something snowboard.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
Really well, I probably enjoyed a lot of the sea whitears.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
Yes, yes, well, now he's on the outs because he
was a bad guy to our girl, Nino do revs.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
So what did I say? I I sort of just
saw Sean White said something when.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
Yeah, I don't know what he said, but you know
he's he's not coming across in the greatest of lights.
But yes, he was the flying tomato. It was so
much fun watching him. But I love Chloe Kim. It's
it is weird though, because I feel very out of
touch with the winter sport athletes.
Speaker 2 (55:54):
Well look at it, I start.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
I will say this, watching the downhill competition is tense.
I mean that is and I go back to I
remember Franz Klama, it's like fifty years ago, and just
riveted watching the downhill.
Speaker 7 (56:09):
I can't tell either of you a single one of
the rules for curling, but I never miss it when
it's on TV.
Speaker 4 (56:15):
I've tried curling a couple of times. Really yes to
do stories for I worked at NBC affiliates, so you know,
we'd host the Olympic Zone. Let's get nikky out on
the ice. It is incredibly difficult, and it's not just
pushing the stone which is heavy. It's like forty pounds
and you have to lunge and glide and push this rock,
(56:36):
you know, across ice and not lose balance. And then
the people are doing the sweeping. You have to really
apply pressure and do it.
Speaker 7 (56:43):
Yes, you're on shoes on that ice. They skates, there's
nothing just straight flat shoes.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
Yeah, you've got to be there. You need serious strength.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Well, it's the number two sport in Canada, behind hockey,
so curling is big.
Speaker 4 (56:56):
I look.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
I enjoy watching.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
It's one of those things where I really don't think
about it until it's actually there, and then I start watching.
I get hooked. Like most people That's how it is.
The one thing I do like maybe over the Winter
Olympics over the Summer Game. I just think they've had way.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Too many sports in the Summer Games. I mean, it's
just becoming ridiculous, right.
Speaker 4 (57:14):
Well, and someone made the.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
Break dancing the last time.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
I was like, come on, it's so funny because I
think I saw someone make the point online. And I
have always been a Summer Olympic over Winter Olympic sports,
you know, I just I really enjoy it those. But
then someone is like, you know, the Winter Olympics are
displays of athleticism that a lot of normal people can't attempt,
(57:38):
like ice skating, slalom skiing, getting air in a half
pipe like And while you may say the same for
a lot of Summer Olympic sports, they are kind of
like everyone can swim, everyone can run, you know, it's
just doing it at the most elite level.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
Prect correct, Well, yeah that makes it more relatable. Yes,
I mean, yeah, you're run faster or jump higher than
anybody else does.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Well, I'm going to continue. I've been breaking down this
favorite versus underdog thing. Okay, you may I mentioned the
last five years, last five Super Bowls the underdog has
covered for them won outright. So I'm going back to
Tom Brady's first Super Bowl win. That was Super Bowl
thirty six. Now, this is more than a trend.
Speaker 2 (58:22):
In the last.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Twenty four Super Bowls, the underdog has covered seventeen times.
The favorite has only covered six times, and one of
them was a pick them game. Actually, the last time
we saw these two teams play New England and Seattle,
that game was a pick them at kickoff, so there
(58:45):
was no over you know, underdog or favorite in that game.
But that's seventeen of the last twenty four Super Bowls
the underdog has covered.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
So this gets back to the whole New England thing.
Being an underdog in this game.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
I know it makes me nervous, but then I want
a good game. I guess that's all I want.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
I think most people say that.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Yeah, I know, that's so, that's so well, I agree.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
With it, but that's true.
Speaker 3 (59:10):
I mean, unless you have a team you're rooting for,
you just want a good game. Yep, are you excited
about the halftime show?
Speaker 4 (59:18):
I love Bad Bunny, that booney. I don't like I
know a couple of his hit songs, but I really,
he seems like a good guy. He does a lot
for Puerto Rico. I just think it's really cool that
the NFL is, you know, celebrating someone who has such
a global appeal.
Speaker 3 (59:34):
Well, the NFL when they got some heat about Bad
Bunny because of some of his political statements, just simply
at the Grammys recently, but he made those after well,
I understand that. But the NFL after that said, we
have spoken to him, and we have reminded him that
(59:57):
the super bowls for everybody. So we're expecting a really
great show from a very talented artist, Bad Bunny. So
they're they're covering their bases. It's not like we haven't
had in past.
Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
Certain political.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Moves made.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
But the NFL seems very confident that Bad Bunny is
just going to go out there, kick ass and perform
his songs.
Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
I think Cardi b might be making appearance too. Really,
she's dating stuff on digs. She's got a great song
with Bad Bunny. But you know, she might do the
thing where she doesn't want to take attention away. She
might be chilling in Craft's box.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
It's a lot of people, you know what they talk
about think about this. None of these halftime artists are
paid because you're never going to get an audience like this. Yes,
you got one hundred million people plus watching you.
Speaker 4 (01:00:54):
I was told a very captivating story about do you
remember Usher's halftime performance? So Lebron James trainer Mike Mancius,
who's been with him throughout Lebron's entire career, I think
since basically year two in the NBA. Mike lives in
(01:01:14):
Vegas part of the year, and he got a call
right around Super Bowl like, this is Usher's people, you know,
we might need to work with you. And Mike was like,
all right, let me know. Let me know. Didn't nothing
ever really gained momentum or traction. Got a call, you know,
It's twenty minutes before kickoff. He's at home with the family,
(01:01:38):
everything's all set up, getting ready to sit down watch
the big game, and he gets a call we need
you at Allegiance. He's like, what what's going on, gets
to the stadium. Usher has thrown out his back and
is in a room lying on the floor crowded people.
Mike's like, get everyone out of here. You know, it's
(01:02:00):
now the game's off and running Ushers like can't move.
So Mike works with him, gets his body right, like
I don't know what juju magic, you know, voodoo? He works, usher,
goes out and delivers the halftime show on roller skates.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
How come I have never heard this.
Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
Before because Mike told it to me personally.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
How how does a story like that? And I get
had you heard that story before?
Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
No, I've never heard that story.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
So I mean, get out. It's not really very carefully. Yeah,
you know, I don't know. I should have probably asked
Mike if I I mean, it's a.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Great the bridge now, but I mean, wow, yeah, that's
an incredible story. M hm wow, that would have been
unbelievable if he couldn't perform with your backup plan.
Speaker 5 (01:02:46):
I actually have a list of who might perform at
halftime with bat On.
Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
Oh it save it the first Let's find out what
is trendy, Martin is ready for? Do you have any
halftime shows that you've enjoyed more than others over the past, Martin.
Speaker 8 (01:03:02):
I think my personal favorite would be Beyonce Formation.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Yep, really like that. You know.
Speaker 8 (01:03:10):
I liked it the best because there was a moment
in which she kind of tripped and I wasn't sure
if she did it on purpose or not. And I
just felt like, like that's got to be the most
the best compliment you could pay to a performer. It's like,
did a quarterback mean to throw that ball in complete?
Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
You know what I'm saying? Like was that the goal?
Or is that just a mistake? Right? That was?
Speaker 8 (01:03:33):
That was my personal favorite of my life, though, are
you looking for? I mean as much as I look
forward to any other halftime show. I liked the Weekend.
I did like the Weekend Weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
I didn't like that one. Sorry, that's what we're all entitled, right.
I loved the Justin Timberlake one the Patriots were in
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
So I have an opinion on halftime shows.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Yes, quickly don't matter.
Speaker 8 (01:03:56):
No, not that, it's just that I don't know if
we'll ever reach at this point with the advent of
the social media and stuff of that, is streaming really
more so a like universally great halftime show? Yeah, so
there's universally regarded as great because we're not forced to
listen to like, for example, you could go your whole
life and never listen to a bad Bunny song. That's
the most popular artist in the.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
World, and it's like, you know, I really like I
thought the fifty cent one was cool here in Sofi
Stadium where they it was like the Avengers. But a
lot of younger people online were like, I don't know
any of these these artists.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Right, well, I like the surprise appearances that that's sort
of the unknown, like, you know, somebody shows.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Up that wasn't scheduled to show up. Sure, you know,
it's like an upset, you know. On the game.
Speaker 8 (01:04:39):
There you go from Houston Rockets lee the Oklahoma City
Thunder eighty five to seventy six with eleven minutes left
in the fourth quarter, Kevin durantk got eleven, Jabari Smith
Junior with sixteen, Tari easton the high Man with twenty
one for Houston, no SGA for ok See. He's out
with that ab straam until after the All Star break.
Chet Holmgren has fifteen points elsewhere in the NFL. Kirk
(01:05:02):
Cousin its expected to be released before the start of
the new league year in March. He's going to be
able to choose where he plays in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
As a result.
Speaker 8 (01:05:09):
Marcus Brady following Jesse Mentor from the Chargers to the
Ravens as the new passing game coordinating Chargers interviewed him
for the OC job that went to Mike McDaniel, the
Jets hiring Seth Ryan as their new passing game coordinator.
Seth Ryan follows Aaron Glenn from Detroit and follows in
the footsteps of Rex and Buddy, who used to look
for the Jets as well. Ratt Ryan was with the
(01:05:30):
Lions for five seasons, and Nick Emman wari he suffered
that low ankle sprain in practice this week, said he'll
be good to go for tomorrow's Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
All right, Martin, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
As always, a couple more facts about this game. So
the Patriots since two thousand have appeared in ten Super Bowls.
Since two thousand and no other team has appeared in
more than five.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Cheat code how about that.
Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
By the way, this New England team is the first
team ever to get to the Super Bowl a year
after losing thirteen games. So you know, even though this
is a completely different cast from the last New England
team that made it to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
The fact is they are the New England Patriot.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Kind of fun having the annoying Pats fans back in
the group chat.
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:06:23):
Okay, well now I want to get back to your
your time here in San Francisco. All right, so what
would you say was the ratio of Patriots fans versus
Seahawks fans that you saw there?
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
So I got there pretty early in the week, right
and fans were, you know, trickling, and I would say
I feel like it was maybe like fifty forty five
Pats fans. But I also, you know, I didn't see
a lot of fans. I was in the convention center
where they weren't allowed, so but walking around the streets
(01:06:55):
as the week progressed, I think I noticed more paid.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
One of the problems you have when you have a
game in a city where there's a team and they
don't make it, yeah, is that you got I remember
when the Chargers had their one trip to the super Bowl.
The game was down in Miami and they had upset
the Dolphins in one of the playoff games, and you know,
I leave San Diego and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
They're going crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
I tried it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Finally in the Super Bowl, I get to Miami and
like they are so pissed off. So did you get
a sense with forty nine or fans around like I
have really the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (01:07:33):
And you know, no, no, I don't. I don't think
it was like that. I think, you know, they're just
you could sense that their team, against all odds, was
still in the conversation close to the end, right, and
so probably just a little bit. I mean, and forty
nine Ers players were everywhere, very notably. I mean, that's
cool because it's the host city, right. But oh, side note,
(01:07:54):
Christian McCaffrey apparently was playing piano.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Yes, I said, it was really cool.
Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
Yeah he did that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
No, he's a man of many towns. I was just
happy to see him be healthy this year, and you know,
the league needs their stars to be out there.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Did you go to the fan Experience?
Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
No, I did not. I was at a lot of
activations throughout the city. I did. When I got there
on Tuesday, before I had really any work obligations. I
hopped in a cable car wrote it down to Fisherman's
Wharf and it was so fun. You know, I haven't
been in the city since before COVID, so it was
cool because I think it was hit really hard by COVID,
and then now it's back to life. It's bustling and
(01:08:33):
it's gorgeous, great weather all week too.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
One of the ais things.
Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
I would go to San Francisco a lot way back
in the day, you know, even when I worked for
the Raiders, we always played the forty nine Ers preseason,
and you would drive in to the city and you
could see Candlestick Park because it was out on the peninsula.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
You could always see that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
And the first time I returned to San Francisco's same
highway and it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Was gone, it was weird.
Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
I mean, like I mean for me, you know, because
I'm so in tune with stadiums. It would be like
you go to Paris and the Eiffel Towers got or
he you know, that type of thing. It was just
so weird having been on that road coming into the
city you could see Candlestick Park out on the peninsula.
And then it just vanished the fact that they could
not get an inner you know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
That's that whole noise about.
Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
The city had approved, had already approved through a vote
to have a inner city stadium for the forty.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Nine Ers and everything else, and then.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Politics got involved, and the next thing, you know, they
dragged it out to Santa Claara.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
But they got the Chase Center, they did, and they
get to you know, you get to host Super Bowls
all the time and other major events out there.
Speaker 4 (01:09:50):
I think you can make the case oracle might be
that one of the coolest ballparks in the country. Yes,
I would love to say in a kayak during a
baseball game out there.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Would you like to do that? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
I think that'd be so fun.
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
The crazy thing about the old Candlestick Park because it
was on the peninsula. When they first built that place,
it was beautiful because it was during the day.
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
They didn't realize about the winds at night. And that
was the craziest place. I went to a game where
there were once a baseball game. I remember the shadows
were coming in and I was walking upstairs from the
sunlight into the shadow to you know, get a couple
of beers or something. The second I stepped into the shade,
I swear the temperature dropped twenty degrees.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
It crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
It was so weird because I took a step back like, okay,
I'm good, am I having a hot fast?
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
What happened here? And it was that's real.
Speaker 4 (01:10:36):
It is crazy because it's probably in a ballpark like
that it just never sees the light of day. If
you're in the shade, you're in the shade. You're in
the shade.
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
So anyway, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara will be the
host of this game. And last time, I said, I
was there ten years ago, last time they hosted a
Super Bowl. There a couple other facts about this game.
Are you a Mike Tarico fan? Yes, because this is
for a Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (01:11:02):
He's so likable.
Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
And then isn't he getting on a plane and flying
straight to me lan Yes? Remarkable, But also as someone
you know in the industry, I'm like, give give him
more people shots. But he is the best of the
best so well.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
I mean, you know a lot of guys have done
this where you're the voice of the network. I mean
Joe Buck obviously is sort of that and everything else where.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
You've got to be.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Everywhere costas you know, for years of the NBC used
to do this where he's there there, he has to
be somewhere. I mean, it's not an event without him.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Do you like all that travel?
Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
Yes? I would be so thrilled to have that as
part of my calendar. Oh hey, you're going to cover
your you know, you you.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
See Nikki, you're young, you see, that's the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
You know, when I was you know, obviously did a
lot of traveling way back in the day.
Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
But yeah, I like the travel component.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Do you like him?
Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
Yeah, I think I would like to be a sideline
Well no, not a sideline reporter, but you know when
you're just covering the game, big game of the week
and you're all over the country.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Well, this is the thing about being a play by play.
You know, early in my radio career, years and years,
they're like.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Dude, why didn't you do play by play?
Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
I got no way. You're on the road where I
am on the road all the time. I was like, no,
you just you just celebrated an important award I did.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
I got.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
I got inducked in the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
Of Fame, and you had Eric Dickerson, Eric Dickerson and
the guys.
Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
I still have Eric's Hall of Fame jacket. So Eric
showed up, and Eric said a little controversial this week with.
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
Some of his bad Benny comments. So my buddy's out there.
But anyway, Eric showed up. I'd asked him to be
my presenter.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
We've been friends for many years, and he showed up
wearing his gold jacket and I was.
Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
Like, did you're an upstage make on? Man?
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
I was, well, I was just sort of like, I've
never seen you wear that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
He goes, I never wear this thing, but I thought
for your big event, you know, I'm gonna wear the
Hall of Fame jacket. Right. So he got up there
and he said all these nice things, and then as
I'm gonna walk up on the stage, he takes his
coat off and he put it on me. He goes,
I want you to wear my Hall of Fame jacket.
So when I gave my speech, yeah, I was wearing that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
But then he left.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
After that, I had to do some other things, and
he left his jack and said, yeah, I'll pick it
up later because he don't live far from me, and
he hasn't picked it up yet, so it's still sitting there.
Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
That's that's awesome, And first of all, congratulations, thank you.
That's great. You know Eric. Eric's so funny because him
being in the area and having you know, the voice
and the resume of his career. I remember when I
first moved back to la I had a friend in
the industry who was like, hey, what are you doing for?
It was New Year's I think, and I go, oh,
(01:13:34):
I no, no, no, plant stat be goes. Do you
want to go to Eric Dickerson's New Year's Eve party?
I go, okay, sure at Eric Dickerson's house. Guess who
I rang in that New Year's with?
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
You were right there, but I mean probably there with
my ex because she was always at these parties.
Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Just beside your ex. I was sitting at a table
with the great Tommy Lasorda. Yes, and we were talking.
This was a couple of years ago. I think it
was like twenty It was twenty twenty before COVID hit,
so that you know, we didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Know pass away. What was it four years ago?
Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
Yeah, and so we're I mean very very special memory now,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
So you saw his house. I've been there one hundred times, but.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
It was a little bit taken over, right, considering it
was a party full of people I didn't know, But yeah,
special memory.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Well, he's the best. I mean, Eric is just like
as after his speech, I said, you know, I know
everyone here knows him as a Hall.
Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Of Fame football player. I'm lucky enough to know him
not only as a Hall of Fame person and a
Hall of Fame friend.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Oh I love that. Great, Great, we tie it all up.
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
Yeah, you know, I had to do last speech on then,
I'd say, had to sort of get a feel for
the room.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
You know that time the jacket heavy?
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
No, actually surprisingly not. You know who makes those jackets, Hagar?
Speaker 4 (01:14:43):
Oh yeah, wow?
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
All right, yeah, who would know that? I didn't know
that she'll actually put it on.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
All right, coming up, we're going to make sort of
some of our predictions on what to see, not necessarily
who's going to win the game, but maybe maybe Nikky's
got a prop bet that she really likes, right, one
that she really likes and haven't been there all week,
maybe a better feel of what's gonna happen in this game.
This is Fox Football Saturday, Steve Harbin, Nikki Cano Saturday.

(01:15:53):
that anytime I open my mouth, Martin's like, turn on
my mic. You've got great power, Steve.
Speaker 7 (01:15:58):
It takes a village to keep Stephen Lyne. I know
you're a Hall of famers, Steve. I heard Carrie's weight
he started radio roads I did. Those two things are true.
A lot of the rest of the stuff is fastly overrated.
Okay for a bow and Chris, guys, are we ready
for tomorrow? So we're gonna do maybe five hours tomorrow,
(01:16:19):
five hours.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
We get on at ten o'clock West coast, one o'clock
in the East coast, basically going up until what half
hour before the game, So we do five hours.
Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
That's right, We got to figure that out. Okay, thank
you very let's put that in your brain right now.
Speaker 4 (01:16:34):
I got to start the day off strong, and you
do have.
Speaker 3 (01:16:37):
To figure out something for tomorrow, so you'll figure that out.
Great job today as well, guys. All right, so here
we are, Nikki was get ready for the big game tomorrow.
So I know you've been thinking about some prop bets,
right have you? Do you have any any prop bets
that intrigued you?
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
So I'm always I love the Gatorade color one just
because it's fun. I was just doing a little research
right there. It looks like I think orange has the
best odds right now because it's been the most the
most frequent in rotation since like twenty eleven or two
thousand and one. I like the odds you're getting for lime,
(01:17:16):
Lemon lime real well, that's my favorite Catoride regardless.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
By the way I understand, Yog, the Patriots are going
to wear their white jerseys white.
Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
Because they're road warriors.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
They've never actually worn that combination in a Super Bowl
with both the.
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
White jersey, maybe to signify the new era.
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
You know, if I were if I were going to
lean to a color for the Gatorade, I'm leaning blue.
Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
Right because you think it appeals to both teams.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
I do anybody going purple. It's like a flyer in purple.
Speaker 5 (01:17:53):
Okay, yeah, blue is plus two twenty three on my Okay,
my purple's plus five twenty five. I like the purple,
to be honest with.
Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
You, Yeah, that's good value. I don't know what it
was last year.
Speaker 7 (01:18:04):
I feel like I don't remember if it's ever been
purple in the Super Bowl, but I do feel like
when I see gatorade baths for like college games, so
there's a lot of purple. I feel like I feel
like it's well represented. I'm just trying to figure out.
Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
Did you know clear also has a spot clearer water?
Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
Yeah, Clear Waters plus eleven fifty.
Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
Yeah, they got to get a color. I would I
know there's an article out by the Athletic of how
they are something out by the Athletic of how they
keep it secret. I would love to know that.
Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
Little so Eagles last year were yellow. Okay, so Jeeves
back to back were purple blue for the Rams, blue
for the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (01:18:42):
So it's been repeating the color the past.
Speaker 5 (01:18:45):
The Patriots last Super Bowl when they were blue and
the Seahawks win, they were orange.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
Here's another stat that my favorite the Patriots. So this
is the tenth Super Bowl REMA. Two teams facing each
other again in a Super Bowl game. The winner of
the first meeting is six and three.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Wow. Now, of course last year we had a rematch
and it was a different outcome.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
So yep. But I know there sometimes if you just
get into two, into those numbers, it's like whoever wins
the coin toss or whenever you know the Super Bowl successful.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Let me ask you about the coin toss heads or tails?
What's it going to be?
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
Ooh, I think it's gonna beat tails? What about you?
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
I'm going heads? All right, I'm going heads. I'm going heads.
So many good stories this year. But getting back to
the you know.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Just I think Jackson Smith NA is going to be
Oh MVP, are you.
Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
Ready for this? I got I got a prediction. I predict.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
First of all, you're going with Smith and Jigba. I
predict neither one of these quarterbacks will be the Super
Bowl and VP.
Speaker 5 (01:19:59):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
But if New England wins my prediction super long shot
hunter Henry, Oh wow, that is don't do this to me.
You don't even know what you're doing to me right now?
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
And My reason I say that is I could just
see him catching a couple of touchdown passes in the
red zone. He's a veteran tight end. No tight end,
by the way, has ever won the Super Bowl MVP Award.
Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
A real big stretch, Steve.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
But if New England wins, I'm going with Hunter Henry Seattle.
I think Kenneth Walker will be the MVP. I don't
think either quarterback is gonna be the MVP of this game.
Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
I'm going JSN Seahawks win.
Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
All right, So have you decided which friend you're going
to join for the game tomorrow? You have?
Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
I think I think I've got a couple of options.
Go mix it up, meet some new people.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
You're on the South pay these days. Yes, that's going
to be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
Every day we make great stuff. Have a great day tomorrow,
and we will as well keep it there For all
the latest, this is Fox Sports Radio.
