Spurs of the Knicks. So Game one was one of
those games where you walked away saying Spurs lack of
experience showed at the end of that game, Knicks veterans
players took over and won Game one. So on Friday
before Game two, I come on a San Diego radio

show with friends of mine every week and out of
the box, and they're always into betting on everything and
everything else. They're like, Spurs are six and a half
point favorites. What do you think. I said, Well, the
Spurs should win game two, but if the Knicks win
this game, they're going to sweep the series. Okay, that's

what I said before game two, So I'd be very
cautious about laying six and a half points in game two.
That was my advice to them. So then the Knicks
win Game two, and now all of a sudden, the
city of New York is going crazy. Cheapest seat for
Game three tomorrow, eleven grand.

You got that in your couch, cushing, So you good?

And then I start thinking to myself, all right, I've
already gone on the air saying if the Knicks win
Game two, they're gonna sweep the series. Now I sit
here and I'm thinking just the opposite, all this celebration
that's going on with Knicks fans right now, two games
short of winning a championship, and it reminds me by
the way of Kobe Bryant back in two thousand and

nine when they're playing the Orlando Magic in the NBA
Finals and they are up two to oh and they're like, hey,
got him now, and Kobe's like, we haven't got crap.

Win a test showbot, I'd asked him that question, yeah,
and so you got to win four games, and all
of a sudden, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking,
as devastating as it's been for being a Nick fan
all these years, fifty three years since they won their
last championship.

What would make things worse, how about blowing a two
zero series lead when he went two on the road
and not just lose, lose four in a row. I
don't know why it is that I have this vision
in my head, but I have a vision in my
head of the San Antonio Spurs celebrating at Madison Square

Maybe you need to shake me right now, VJ. But
something tells me that what appears to be clear that
after fifty three years, the Knicks are finally going to

win an NBA championship. It's not registering with me right now.
You and I both picked the Spurs before the series.
So even though I had set before Game two, if
the Knicks win, they're going to sweep the series, I
walk away from Game two after the Knicks win and
say I'm staying with the Spurs. The Spurs are going

Well, I'm not mad at it, but I can understand
why Nick fans are celebrating the way to celebrating only
the third time in NBA history, the home team with
home court advantage in the NBA Finals has lost games
one and two at home, So it only happened three
times in the history of the NBA Finals.

on Friday against Padaguay, I know, in Los Angeles, So
I just cannot wait to see what that atmosphere is like.

All Right, So I'm going to save that for a
moment because I want to get into Game three of
what happened last night between the Golden Knights and the Hurricanes.
I mean, this was a game that featured record after record.
I mean, we're talking Mitch Marner quickest hat trick in

Stanley Cup Final history. We're talking about the Hurricanes scoring
three goals in thirty nine seconds. We're talking about Marner
only the second guy to have four points in one period,
and the other guy did it in nineteen nineteen. We're
talking about only the second player ever Ted Lindsay being
the other nineteen fifty seven, to have a hat trick

in a quarter in a period. So this has been
an incredible series so far. We were talking before this
series about the Golden Knights. Obviously during the regular season
they had a very forgettable regular season, but they've caught
fire in the postseason. So get us up to day
and where you standing on this series. Right now with

the Knights up two games to one.

The first word is wow, wow, because not only due
to all the history that you just mentioned, but we
are three games into this series. All three have been
won goal games. Game three certainly was the most amazing
of them all, where you almost had a play in
three acts. That was the second period for Vegas, the

third period for Carolina, and then the multiple overtimes won
by one of the goofiest double overtime winning goals you're
ever going to see, with Jay Theodore off the end
boards and it's hard for Martin Hook to handle it
and ends up in the back of the net. It
has been a surreal And I will say this, if

you are a casual sports fan who has been wondering, okay,
should I invest in the Stanley Cup Final? You might
not have strong feelings about the Golden Knights. You might
not have strong feelings about the Hurricanes. Well, guess what,
if you love sports, you love this the number of
storylines and Mitch Marner. I'm gonna mention this for the

people that are maybe a little bit later arriving to
this Cup final. And you mentioned the natural hat trick
that he scored in the second period. Marner up until
this season, of course, he had spent his entire career
in Toronto, his hometown, and he left there as a
free agent, and many said, what's he doing? Why would
you ever leave an Original six team? Well, turns out

he wanted to play in a little bit of a
free er atmosphere. That there is so much pressure on
these players, Stephen VJ. Especially when your hometown kid, especially
when you're playing for Toronto Bay Beliefs, who always struggle
to reach expectations of the playoffs. Well, the way that
Marner has played is affirming that the problem was not

Mitch Marner. It was the environment that he had in Toronto.
And he's in a totally different place now. He's around
a lot of other world class players in Vegas. And
you saw last night not only the playmaking skill that's
always been a huge part of his game, but just
the goal scoring, the elite goal scoring. He can do
it all. And what a redemption story this would be

for him if he not just wins the Cup, but
probably wins the con Smite as the playoff MVP. If
the gold Knights win this series, and oh my goodness,
Steven VJ, what would the reaction be back in his
hometown in the Toronto area. My goodness, gracious, I hope
there are still some people there rooting for him because
he deserves it. But he has been putting on a

show in this Stanley Cup final.

I no Canadian hockey fans, they're very, very low. I'm
pretty sure he's got plenty of people. When I thought
about that, watch it the other night, like, wow, you know, Toronto, Maple.
I mean, the Canada hasn't won a Stanley Cup, hasn't
won Lord Stanley in so long, and hey, you got
a Canadian here just you know, killing it right now,
kicking ass. But I want to go to a point
I made with you two weeks ago, and now, goaltending

was gonna be huge in this series, in that Carolina
was a sixteen game plus win differential over the Vegas Knights,
and just on paper, this should have looked like a
walk through the way Carolina walked through the Eastern Conference.
But you and I both said, this Vegas team is fast,
they're big, they're scrappy, and if you look at the

point totals in this game, no one scored less than
three goals. Five goals have been scored three times, four
goals have been scored two times. Which goaltender is going
to actually make some saves for which team to win
this Cup because this is gonna be another.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Five four four four four three game tomorrow night.

Well, DJ, I'll say this, if it comes down to
one big saves, you gotta go with Vegas simply because
and again, carter Hart was not part of the organization
playing every day certainly when the season began. But of
the two starting goaltenders when this series began, only one
was still in the pipes there towards the end of

the game, and that was carter Hart there for Vegas,
whereas Bussie of course was in that it was a
blu key goal that won it for Vegas. But for me,
I've always said this VJ and Steve, it's not always
your goals against average and a series like this, because
you're exactly right, no one here is going to pull
a march Ambrouder or a Jean Sebastian Jiguere from years

ago when they were winning the cons fights by giving
up one point five goals a game. That's not this
kind of hockey. Okay, there's a little bit more Hudson
Bay rules are playing up and down. So in that situation,
it's not the number of saves, it's when do you
make the big state? When do you make when once
your team has tied it, when can you keep it there?

When your team has cut up to one goal? When
can you keep it there? When your team just took
the lead. When are you able to keep it at
that one goal lead? That to me is a big
thing going forward. And to be honest with you, based
on the way this series is gone, I have a
little more trust in tier Heart than I do Anderson
or Boosy.

I want to talk a little World Cup. I'm going

My father in law was a huge football fan, very
excited about the United States hosting, and we were all

I was thinking, wow, I mean, okay, you know, the
United States here we are. Let's let's let's see what's next.
And four years later, out of thirty two teams, they
finished last, thirty two out of thirty two and so
it's been a roller coast to ride for the United
States men ever since. Obviously our women have been to
the Pentagle, but on the men's side, it just seems
like we're in this stagnant stage. They haven't defeated a

European team since twenty twenty one. So as we enter
this twenty twenty six FIFA World Cup, and I say this,
and I've been around a long time, JP okay, and
you know me, I cover all the sports, I really do.
But until the United States men actually show some competitiveness

on the world stage, in the world's biggest sporting event,
it's hard for me to get excited. So give me
some scenario, because I saw where the it's not impossible.
The United States has listened as one point three percent
chance I'm winning the World Cup here in twenty twenty six.
One point three percent. So tell me something. It's going

to get me engaged and interested in the world before
we get it started, all right, So here we go.

Yesterday there was a friendly game, the sendoff game, So
the final dress rehearsal, the US plays Germany to one
win for the Germans. The US, especially when the starters
were in played really well. And then right at the
end there was what I thought was a pretty clean
challenge by Tim Wea on a German player at the
end and got all ball, but it was a hard

tackle and the German player pops up and there's a
little bit of a pushing and shoving. Our coach Marichio
Pochettino is right in the middle of it and it
got testy. That to me is what I want to
see from this team. Because in two thousand and two,
the US reaches the quarterfinal and probably should have beaten Germany.

Controversial handball not called against Thorsten Springs of Germany. You
could look it up as the kids say, it happened
so and then in twenty ten, he had the Land
of Donovan goal that that was a where were you
moment in American sports in my opinion, where where if
you were not watching that game, what what the heck
were you doing when he when he scores that goal
that gets the US through. So we're looking now for

that next great US men's American soccer moment. They of
course missed the World Cup in eighteen twenty two. It
was in the wintertime and it didn't really feel like we.

I loved it because we needed to see a little

to him, humble roots for him in Texas and he
always had that that chip on his shoulder. This is
the chance for this American group to show that that
soccer is not the sport of the suburban privileged kids,

if you will that it's a support. It's a support
for everybody that everybody that that has an American pass with,
everybody that has an American part of their identity.

And we played with a little bit of swagger. It's
it's unique in the American consciousness. We are we are
not the underdog and and basically everything we are the overdogs. Okay,
no matter what the sport is. We even just beat
the beat the Canadians in the hockey gold medal games
on the men's and women's side, boom right there at
the Olympics. So what are we possibly underdogs in? It's

this We're still slight underdogs, not massively but we're not
supposed to win it. To your pointers, it's ninety eight
percent chance we're not gonna win an according to what
you just said. So this is where we can still
bond together a bit as American sports people to root
for one team, one flag, one identity together and and
to find find a person on this team that resonates

with you, whether it's because of country of origin, cultural story,
part of the country that you connect to, whatever it is,
find that player and and and attach yourself to him,
because there's there's someone on this roster that we all
can identify with. And and that's the beauty of our country,
it's the beauty of soccer. Find that player, find that team,

and let's go. Let's let's go on a run that
captivates the country. And it starts again eight o'clock Eastern

same again. But I'm gonna put my money on Spain.
I'm taking Spain over the field, and if there is

somebody in the field, you're taking on Oh absolutely, I'm
taking Espanya over the field. If there's somebody in the
field you like, who would you ride with? That would
be that would overtake Spain and win this World Cup.

percent from the three point line. In these two games,
he's shooting thirty four percent from the field, twenty three

city for a guy that obviously is a better shooter
than that, and you feel like at his home court
that he should have some advantage to at least get
his shot back on track. And if he does actually
shoot like he normally does, that's just gonna make it

once sound ready again, Sam, the Cleveland Browns, you know
you're saying, Wow, you just got rid of Miles Garrett.
They got a boatload in return. First of all, you
got Jared Verse. This kid's already a two time Pro
Bowler twenty five years old? Is he Miles Garrett? No,
but he's he's a pretty good player. He look happy, though, well,

I can imagine it's okay, you know what, wants to
stay in the NFL. He didn't look happy. Well, but
I mean they they wanted a lot, obviously for Miles Garrett.
They got a one, they got a two, they got
a three. Those are all premium picks. I mean, if
the Browns draft, right, that's three starters at the very least,

plus a two time Pro Bowl kid, right right, So
that's a pretty good haul for Miles Garrett. That being said,
less need and the Rams. And again, you can do
this when you have ownership that has limitless money, which

the money. So they always have that, but they also
have a commitment to win and win now. Now, if
you're a fan of any team, right and they always
make the say, well, we gotta worry about the future.

three years from now, forget that. We have him now.

goes down with an injury. A year ago in training camp,
he had back problems. We were sitting here making our predictions.
We didn't know if he was playing. We didn't even

I believe if, if a big if, if Matthew Stafford
is healthy, the Rams are the prime challenger to the Eagles.
And that's what I said, right, I said, you know
who's going to challenge the Eagles? I said, well, if

they are the prime challenger to the Eagles. That was
my preseason prediction. So it really comes down to that.
I mean, yes, it's great to have Miles Garrett's great
to pick up a Pro Bowl corner. It's great that
they made all these additions to their defense. That's all great,

is your quarterback or Ty Simpson is your quarterback. You're

not going to win super Bowl with those two guys.
