for Tuesday, June the ninth, and the NBA Finals have
gotten underway, Ladies and gentlemen. We actually have a series.
Many thanks to the San Antonio Spurs for winning Game three.

We now have a series. I'm not gonna lie. I
was very nervous that the Knicks would sweep them and
we'd be done with NBA talk. We cannot have that,
you know, Rob g and I love the NBA. I
enjoy watching when min Yama. Obviously I'm on the Knicks.
It's weird. I have this eerie confidence that the Knicks
are winning this series. That's not a problem. I just
wanted to go like six games. I don't know that
(00:52):
I'd be how I would handle a seventh game. Going
seven would make me extremely nervous because anything can happen
in the seventh game. And as you saw in Game three,
the best player on the court, Victor Wemban Yama, took
over folks. I mean from the jump, Wemby's just dunking.
He had an unbelievable performance. Again, I mean, listen, I'm
not trying to toot my own horn hear, Who am
(01:13):
I kidding? Of course I am, guys, Victor wembin Yama
had an extra day off. You want to guess who
played the most minutes of anyone, Victor Wembanyama. Did he
look tired to you? Didn't look tired to me. Wemban
Yama thirty nine minutes at thirty two points. How efficient
is this? Eleven for eighteen two or four from three,

eight of nine on three throws, only one turnover in
thirty nine minutes. All I had been hearing was Karl
Anthony towns Owns. Wemby thirty two eight six three blocks.
He was tremendous. I felt like he had more dunks
in this game than he had in the first two
games combined. I'm not gonna bore you with a billion
stats on Wemby being, you know, the youngest guy to

do this, that, and the other. But I did see
an interesting one. Wemby and my guy Steph Castle, first
pair of teammates twenty two years or younger with twenty
points in a game in the NBA Finals, and as
good as one Binyama was, Steph Castle was extraordinary, So
it felt like to me, like Castle carried in the
first half, he had eighteen points. Wemby in company took

over in the third quarter, stretched the lead out and
then just held on for dear life in the fourth quarter.
And folks, listen, we got we're getting lucky here. Three
NBA Finals games, all of them, all of them came
down to the final two minutes. You can't ask for
anything more than that. And I'm not gonna batch my
Nicks here. I am gonna say they hadn't lost a

game since April twenty third. Donald Trump shows up, falls
asleep at the boisterous garden and the next loose. By
the way, the Knicks had led by seven and a
half after trailing double digits in the first half. You're
leading by seven at home at half time in a
game where you close out the series three al was
a death set. It's over, it's done.

They're cooked.

But I told you, guys, Spurs will.

Win in Game three.

Spurs on the money line, A bit of a sweat
there at the end. Not gonna lie. I know some
people are gonna come on with the hot takes and
try to kill my guy Brunson. I don't know. I
thought Brunson was good. I honestly, you know, if we're
being completely honest, role players can swing these games. We
saw it happen in the Thunder series when like Caruso

went bonkers, and who is the other guy who had
a bunch of threes? Not lou Dort, Cason Wallace had
a monster game. Hart and Steed had a game in
game three. I mean, listen, the role players for the
next did nothing. Mckail bridges early foul trouble, two points,
five shots, that's it for mckail Bridges. Shosh Hart was

great in the first half at four threes, just a
invisible in the second half. And then you go to
Landry Shammitt, who, by some accounts is the hottest shooter
in NBA Finals history since my guy Danny. Remember when
he was just hitting three after three, after three. So
Shammitt famously in the last round against the Cleveland Cavaliers
from three, this is no cap he was eleven of

twelve on threes in four games. That's ninety one percent.
From three first two games, he was six of thirteen
shade under fifty percent. In game three. Landry Shammitt, the
bright light to the garden, probably had friends, family, girlfriend's
side piece, everybody in the building. One of eight shooting
blocked at the rim by Wemby in the fourth one
of seven from three five houls in twenty three minutes.

That's just not gonna get it done. So when Shammitt's
not coming off the bench lighting up the flamethrower, you
got Jordan Clarkson, who did chip in ten Alverado decent,
but Shammitt was a minus twenty. Deuce McBride didn't get
enough minutes, two shots did not happen, so the bench
didn't really show up. And then you go to the
Spurs bench Caldon Johnson plus fourteen. I do think he's

a little reckless and out of control. The turnovers killed me.
I probably should take back this tweet. I had maybe
a little harsh So Keldon won the sixth Man.

Okay, and you watch him play and you're like, Okay,
he's fine, but six man, that's the best six guy
in the league. And I had this hot take that
the reason he won the award is because voters were like, well,
that's first, we're great, we got to give him something.
We're not giving it to Wemby, right, we're not giving
him the MVP. Fine, let's give Keldon Johnson six minute
(05:27):
the year. And he was good, he had good stats.
But you watch him and well, I'm sorry, guys, he's
not better than Dylan Harper. I'm sorry, he's just not. Now,
Dylan Harper missed a bunch of shots, but Rob pointed
that out. He was like, you wouldn't know it from
harper stat line how much he impacted the game. I
thought he had a great game, and I look five
of eighteen. I was like, holy smokes, but he had
thirteen points, nine rebounds. He was excellent. And I know

people are going to say, well, the stats, and that's
what we get bogged down to. Listen, guys, this is
the NBA Finals. Okay, We're up to like ninety five
games played this season. Guys are tired. Everybody tries on
every possession. It's harder to score. You can look across
the board in the history of basketball. Fine, let's just
go to the modern era. Guys' stats are depressed in
(06:15):
the finals because it's just really difficult to score, which
brings us to Jalen Brunson. And I'm tooting Brunson's horn
every time that he has a clutch moment. And you
know we're three games in now, and you know he
had his most points thirty two, five rebounds, five assists.
(06:37):
But then you look a little closer and it's thirty
two points on twenty five shots. So his shot attempts
for Brunson thirty one, twenty five to twenty five. Last
round it was twenty nine sixteen, nineteen fourteen against the
Sixers eighteen twenty one, twenty two to seventeen. So close games,
way more Brunson. And I don't think that's a bad thing.
I mean, he was a clutch Player of the Year

two years ago. He he scored the game winning go
ahead points in game one, scored the game winning three
throw in game two. He's clutched. In game three, he
was fine, he had a big three point play there late,
but it didn't feel like the Knicks got everyone else involved. Again,
if sham it's not coming in hitting threes, you're getting
nothing from mckel bridges. Where's Karl Anthony Towns? And I

keep hearing Charles Barkley out here, while Karl Anthony Towns
is my MVP. Could somebody give Barkley the stats that
he Kat does not have a point in the fourth
quarter in three games, not a point. Go look it up.
I went through the box scores again. I'm not killing Kat,
but like eleven points, ten shots, I don't know, he
ain't the MVP. My guy ogn Andov plus four thousand.

He carried him, he had twenty eight. He was excellent.
But overall it just felt like the Knicks players. Maybe
they were too amped right playing at home in front
of the garden, the juiced up crowd. Maybe they were
I don't Maybe they thought this was over winning the
first two. You know, you have an extra day to
read your headline clippings. It's impossible to not to be
on social media. They're planning the parade route. Series is over.

You had one lone voice in the wilderness, little old
j Mac. Guys, this series is not over. And I
call I told you guys. The Spurs a winning Game three.
Now I don't have a pick yet for game four.
The problem is they don't get the extra day before
game four. They get it before game five. Oh wait, yeah,
(08:29):
I'm sorry, Yeah, two days off before game five. If
the Spurs can somehow win game four, get this, because
here's how it goes, it goes Game five, San Antonio,
Game six, New York, Game seven, San Antonio. So an
extra day between five, six and seven. That is enormous. Now,
my inclination, rob is to go with the Knicks in

Game four, but I'm not gonna fire on anything yet.
I feel like I've got a good read on the
series and I'm not nervous for the Knicks yet because
I think I think they're gonna be okay in Game four.
But if ween beIN Yama plays like that and Castle
plays like that and Bruns does not get any help,
then yeah, the Knicks are in trouble.

out there. I mean, it's Stefan Castle and Victor Wmenyama.
I think I alread it correctly. Became the first pair
of teammates to you know, each have twenty five and
five in in a final game, or the youngest pair
of teammates to do that. So yes, if that's going
to happen, then sure, the San Antonio Spurs are gonna.

And look, we'll get to the Knicks in a second.
This game was all about Victor Wmenyama, Steph Castle and
the Spurs, like they took it to the Knicks right
from opening tip.

First four shot attempts all at the rim, which is
big for a guy like him, because I know he
can and shoot threes. That's not really his game. His
game is not a three point marksman. His game is
being the tallest, longest dude who've ever seen. Use your
physical gifts. You're taller than everybody out there. Getting near
the basket, they're gonna be a post up game, but
(10:15):
something going towards the rim is where your advantage lies.
And credit to him, he did not settle early. It
set things up with that later in the game. They
had to respect his aggressiveness and he's getting open threes
later that like, we'll work it that way inside the outside.
Steph Castle early in the game was the guy who
really carried them through. Now even though they gave it
(10:38):
up very quickly and it became a seven point deficit
at half right out of halftime. The first thing they
do they ratchet up the defense. Couple of sloppy turnovers, right,
Jalen Brunson, and a seven point lead is suddenly a
one point deficit in the first six minutes of the
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
And so the San Antonio Spurs were the more aggressive,
the more forceful team all night, and it played out
that way. If the Knicks would have found a way
to steal this one after that og Ananobi three pointer
there in the corner, I would have been absolutely shocked
because they did not deserve to win that game. San
Antonio was better for three, probably three and a half
(11:13):
quarters of this game.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
And I'm excited even though I had did I thought
that they were gonna win this one. This has been
a great series so far. Every game has been closed,
Every game has been competitive, and without you know, piling
on too much because I know he's your guy and
he's my guy too short Kings stand up.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
But Jalen Brunson has just not been good in the series.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Wait a minute, he has not been good. You what
you said what you.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Said about Daron Fox where he said, hey, yeah, he
had one good shot there at the end.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Otherwise he didn't do much in this game, so he
was four for fourteen.

He was not good.

That has been Jalen Brunson throughout this series. He hits
one good shot in Game two. He has a little
flurry there at the fourth quarter of Game one, but
outside of that, he has been a what an undersized
defensive liability shot chucker in this series so far. Now
(12:08):
it's only been three games and because they're up three.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Two on hold on, I'm talking Are you calling garon
Fox a chucker or no.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I'm talking about Jalen Brunson.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Oh gosh, Jayalen Brunson is averaging as many turnovers as assists,
which is not good.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
When you're the point guard and your usage rate is
like forty, that's not good.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
And the people say, oh, twenty seven, four and four,
Look what Jayalen Brunson's doing. He had a couple, he
had some key baskets. Yes, in the first two games
in this series. He's averaging twenty seven attempts a game
and shooting thirty seven percent from the field. There is
no reason why it's to take you twenty seven shots
to get twenty seven points. There's no reason why as
(12:47):
the lead ball handler, you average as many turnovers as assists,
especially when you consider the other three scorers in your
starting lineup, Kat, Og and mchal are all shooting over five.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Percent from the field.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
The problem is Kat is only getting twelve shots a game.
Og is only getting twelve shots a game, and mcal
Bridges is only getting eight shots a game because Jalen Brunson.
I don't know if this is schematic or what, but
one of the reasons why, and in fact, the biggest
reason why the Knicks became arguably the greatest postseason team ever,
(13:22):
is because they made that shift in the minute in
the Atlanta series to run the offense not entirely, but
a lot of times through Kat Kat on the pinch post.
Apparently he can unlock things with his passing that we
didn't know about because he has done this since college,
and that's how they really took off offensively. This series
so far, through the first three games has been a
(13:43):
lot of the Jalen Brunson hero ball, which works a
lot in the regular season but is not working out
against the defenders that San Antonio has. They have to
find a way to get these other guys more involved
if they are going to seal the deal the way
that they should.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
So it took me a moment to wonder, what's going
on with Brunson. Why, Well, I'm not killing him as
much as you are. So I just went to his
shot chart. Rob for this game, twenty five shots in
a lot, Okay, he's missing a ton of shots in
the lane that he normally makes. Who else last round
(14:18):
missed a lot of shots in the lane that he
normally makes.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
SGA.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I think this is the Wemby impact. That's my best
read on this. So you could get on Chimpagnee or
vas Vassel, Castle, Harper, whoever it is. You could get
by them. But when you're going up against the calves, okay,
it's Evan Mobley or Jared Allen, normal sized humans. Okay,
when you're going up against the pistons, it's what duran.
Come on, give me right, nobody's scare to him. You
(14:44):
get into the lane against most teams, you're gonna get buckets.
Runson getting into the lane, it looks like he missed one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight eight shots in the painted area. That's an unfathomable
number for a guy who's super money and a great
closer in the lane. His midrange is one of the
best in the league. SGA fell victim to that, and
(15:06):
now we're only we didn't see ten blocks from Wemby
like we did in that first game against the How
many did he did he have it? Like eleven in
a playoff game or something like that.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
I think it's the Blazers, Yeah, Blazers.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Right, so he only had three blocks, but he's altering
shots or you're at least thinking about it, so it's
not as much of a layup. Now again, maybe that's
an excuse for my guy Brunson. Maybe it's these defenders
that are wearing on them. I mean, they're not just
putting Castle on them. Now we need the tracking IQ
data that doesn't come out until later this morning. I
think it's genius IQ where they can actually break down
(15:37):
how everyone did when guarded by Castle, Kelton Johnson, whoever
it is, I don't know Rob that that's the only
thing I could come up with. But it also looked
like the Spurs for large portions slowed it down. Now
that would be most of the fourth quarter. Nix missed
ten straight threes to open the fourth after going I
think six of nine in the third again three point
(15:59):
variant is everything six of nine, you're coming back. But
as soon as they cooled off at the end of
the third, the Spurs were able to like you know,
right the ship and where. I think they were up
one heading into the fourth, and then the Knicks cannot
hit a three to save their life. So I don't
know what's your concern level for New York heading into
game four. I have not seen a line yet, but

they were minus one and a half minus two for
Game three. Again, I do believe this one day layoff
is huge, so I will give the edge to the Knicks.
I'm seeing Nicks minus one and a half again. Interesting.

I mean that sounds about right like the Knicks are
at home, which, off Kraves, is a big that maybe
not in this series because the road team has won
every single game. But I think you agree even that
the Spurs have the best player in this series, Victor
Weyman Yama, even on his off nights, which I believe
that Karl Anthony Towns, you know, on a possession by
(17:11):
possession basis, outplayed Wemby through games one. In Game two,
but if you just look at the counting stats, he's
giving you twenty nine, ten and five stocks a game
right on forty seven percent shooting who Wemby Wemby, So
the counting stats are always going to favor him. He's
been the best player, and he's he's probably gonna continue
(17:31):
to be the best player in any series he plays
moving forward through the rest of his career. But at
this stage of their careers, at this current juncture in
twenty twenty six, here in June, the Knicks have a
better collection of players right now. That doesn't mean next
season that Harper and cass are going to make the
leap that they're continuing to meet.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
The trajectory is incredible, But at this.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Point in time, og Kat, Heartbridges Bruns and that collective
is a better group than what the Spurs have right now.
So I would imagine coming into this next game, they
just have more levers they can go to than San Antonio.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Okay, well, it's interesting you mentioned Towns as a lever.
Thirty eight minutes one assist not.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Running it through him.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
They're maybe they can't him. Is it because they can't
I don't I have That's a great question. I'd have
to drill down. So in the first two games of
the series he had four assists. In the last round
he averaged for assists. The round before that he averaged
seven and a half against the Sixers, and of course
Atlanta was when we saw it most, he averaged six.
So all of a sudden, he's not the focal point
(18:34):
of the offense anymore. Is that because Wemby turned the
water off or they stopped putting Wemby in action? These
are good questions. I again, in the aftermath the game
just sented. It's after midnight here on the East coast.
Maybe that's it. They don't want to go at Wemby
as much because he is, you know, Victor Wemenyama, and
he's gonna tough stuff out.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
I mean, that's fair. But let's say that is the case. Right,
you say, hey, we don't want to attack Wemby with kat,
Why can't we attack Vassal with og? Why can't we
not attack Champagnee with mcel Like? I know, it doesn't
seem like it because mccol bridge only had two points
one to five. There's been a couple of games where
he just hasn't taken a lot of shots. But every
one of these guys, save for Josh Hart, has been
(19:18):
a twenty plus per game score on a different franchise.
OG was the guy for at least the season there
in Toronto, Kat was the guy for several seasons in Minnesota.
Mcel was the guy in Brooklyn. The team wasn't very good,
but you know that at a minimum, you can feature
some kind of offense around him, and he has the
requisite skills where he can get you some buckets.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
For segments of the game.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
So you're saying, hold on, So so Towns, Heart and
Bridges combined took twenty five shots, Brunston took twenty five.
You're saying that that needs to be a little more parceled.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, it needs to be a little unige just because
as we've seen in this series. Now everybody's pointing to
the results. You say, hey, they're dub to two to one.
They won the first two games on the road, so
obviously what they're doing is working. But anybody who knows
a little bit about basketball, you can clearly see that
they seem to operate as a group better when Jalen
(20:10):
Brunson is not dominating the ball against this specific opponent
That may not be what's best for them long term,
or against ninety five percent of the league, but against
this specific team all Jalen Brunson all the time is
not where they're at their best. They were at their
best when their bench was getting up and down and
moving freaking GTA Jose Alvarado was over there making stuff happen.
(20:31):
Then Game one, know og was making stuff happen. Game
two mcal Bridges making stuff happen. And it seems like
when they just say high pick and roll or isolation
with Jalen Brunton, they get bogged down, They don't always
get the best shot attempts, and he has not been
efficient enough yet through this first three games to say
why should we just stick with it? Why can't we
not tryst someone else?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Okay, so I'm amazingly YouTube is just so good. You
can actually go on there and look back at like
a condensed version of the game. So I just started watching.
In the first quarter, they didn't come out with Castle
on Brunson. Champagney first possession, so they early on they
mixed it up, but the Knicks got those turnovers early
and the Spurs jump out to a big league By
the way, Spurs have won all three first quarters.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Gover digous, don't digeous every time.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I don't know if they'll do that again in this one.
Remember they did in all the home games against the Thunder.
They did it here the first three games of the series.
They have the best starting lineup in the league, but
as Rob points out, the Knicks have more higher level balance. Right.
I don't think Harper's gonna go for It's.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Just a veteran thing more than any It's not a
talent thing. It's, hey, we've been there longer. We kind
of know what to expect with the ebbs and flows
of a game. And you always, and again this is
not a Spurs thing. You're historically you're gonna go with
the veteran team in these situations every time.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Over the young time.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
I did see a weird stat that in the second
half the Spurs took like twenty two free throws and
the Knicks took like six. And I know some people
are chirping, but for the game it was thirty two
attempts for the Spurs to the Knicks. I mean they
both shot about the same number of threes. It did
appear as if Fox's idea was to get to the bucket.
(22:09):
Castle was to get to the bucket. He took six,
So they're driving more. The Knicks like Josh Hart zero
three throws, Bridges zero three throw. They're not attacking Cat.
Wasn't attacking Cat barely shot. So I do think maybe
a little bit the Knicks got out of character up
two Oho going home, And my read is the Spurs
made minor adjustments and Webbin Yama an extra day arrest.
(22:33):
He played the most minutes and he had his best game.
The question is can he do that again? Rob I
off was just one day rest, so down three to one, shit,
will actually Rob if you have two days between every
other game, maybe it's not a death sentence to be
down three to one here.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I mean, you don't want to test that theory. You don't, don't, right,
But yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
And again yeah, I tried to sell Rob on the
first three games or clutch all had clutch minutes in
the final three minutes, and you I could make a
decent argument that after being down fourteen. In game two,
they tie it up with three minutes left, and you know,
Wenby does a throw off Castle's back. They ty Gabe,
they probably you know, they win that game, so you
(23:18):
could argue they would then be up to one. So again,
I don't think this is over. I mean, I think
I feel good the Knicks win the series. I don't
think it's like over though. Does that make any sense
or am I talking out I'm talking out of both sides.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
No, I mean it's totally reasonable to have that opinion,
if only because if you just look at the game logs,
all of these games were close in the last two minutes.
Now the game one doesn't appear that I think they
final score was by ten, but that's because you know,
garbage time, they get some free throws, they get a
late basket, the game's already out of reach and that's
kind of the end of it. But these last two
(23:51):
games have been decided by a total of five points combined.
So you can absolutely make the case that this series,
and it has been it's been a great so far.
But you can make the case that this series could
go either way. It's just I feel like the eye
test says that the Knicks have been the better team
through the first three games in the totality, and that's
why they're up to one.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Real quick, did you see the play in the first
quarter where Wemby kind of chucked Brunson. Yeah, I loved
it near the felon. So if you watch it and again,
people are gonna say I'm a hater. Look at it closely.
At the beginning of the clip, Brunson with his left
hand is literally pulling on Wemby's jersey. He's pulling him,
but Wemby's like saying, get off me, and so he
(24:32):
just shoves it. Now, it was clearly excessive, But if
you watch closely, Karl Anthony Towns is doing a lot
of this hook stuff. The Knicks are crafty. They're really
doing stuff. And again I know, hey Jay, wait, you
said you hated when the Spurs when the thunder were
taking flops. Well, yeah, they got exposed and guess what
then it became an embarrassment when every single night that
(24:53):
was all anybody who was looking for. I don't think
the Knicks or Spurs are rising to that level, but
I think it's pretty clear that the Knicks are trying
some stuff like that hooked that Karl Anthony Town's had
where Wenby asked for the review and got it in
one like that. Stuff's happening a lot. They're literally grabbing
one because you don't want him to get to a spot.
He's seven foot four. So I love this series. I'm
just glad we get folks this weekend. Oh my gosh,

was very nervous that the Knicks would sweep them and
we'd be done with NBA talk. We cannot have that,
you know, Rob g and I love the NBA. I
enjoy watching when min Yama. Obviously I'm on the Knicks.
It's weird. I have this eerie confidence that the Knicks
are winning this series. That's not a problem. I just
wanted to go like six games. I don't know that

I'd be how I would handle a seventh game. Going
seven would make me extremely nervous because anything can happen
in the seventh game. And as you saw in Game three,
the best player on the court, Victor Wemban Yama, took
over folks. I mean from the jump, Wemby's just dunking.
He had an unbelievable performance. Again, I mean, listen, I'm
not trying to toot my own horn hear, Who am

I kidding? Of course I am, guys, Victor wembin Yama
had an extra day off. You want to guess who
played the most minutes of anyone, Victor Wembanyama. Did he
look tired to you? Didn't look tired to me. Wemban
Yama thirty nine minutes at thirty two points. How efficient
is this? Eleven for eighteen two or four from three,

eight of nine on three throws, only one turnover in
thirty nine minutes. All I had been hearing was Karl
Anthony towns Owns. Wemby thirty two eight six three blocks.
He was tremendous. I felt like he had more dunks
in this game than he had in the first two
games combined. I'm not gonna bore you with a billion
stats on Wemby being, you know, the youngest guy to

do this, that, and the other. But I did see
an interesting one. Wemby and my guy Steph Castle, first
pair of teammates twenty two years or younger with twenty
points in a game in the NBA Finals, and as
good as one Binyama was, Steph Castle was extraordinary, So
it felt like to me, like Castle carried in the
first half, he had eighteen points. Wemby in company took

over in the third quarter, stretched the lead out and
then just held on for dear life in the fourth quarter.
And folks, listen, we got we're getting lucky here. Three
NBA Finals games, all of them, all of them came
down to the final two minutes. You can't ask for
anything more than that. And I'm not gonna batch my
Nicks here. I am gonna say they hadn't lost a

game since April twenty third. Donald Trump shows up, falls
asleep at the boisterous garden and the next loose. By
the way, the Knicks had led by seven and a
half after trailing double digits in the first half. You're
leading by seven at home at half time in a
game where you close out the series three al was
a death set. It's over, it's done.

Spurs on the money line, A bit of a sweat

try to kill my guy Brunson. I don't know. I
thought Brunson was good. I honestly, you know, if we're
being completely honest, role players can swing these games. We
saw it happen in the Thunder series when like Caruso

went bonkers, and who is the other guy who had
a bunch of threes? Not lou Dort, Cason Wallace had
a monster game. Hart and Steed had a game in
game three. I mean, listen, the role players for the
next did nothing. Mckail bridges early foul trouble, two points,
five shots, that's it for mckail Bridges. Shosh Hart was

great in the first half at four threes, just a
invisible in the second half. And then you go to
Landry Shammitt, who, by some accounts is the hottest shooter
in NBA Finals history since my guy Danny. Remember when
he was just hitting three after three, after three. So
Shammitt famously in the last round against the Cleveland Cavaliers
from three, this is no cap he was eleven of

twelve on threes in four games. That's ninety one percent.
From three first two games, he was six of thirteen
shade under fifty percent. In game three. Landry Shammitt, the
bright light to the garden, probably had friends, family, girlfriend's
side piece, everybody in the building. One of eight shooting
blocked at the rim by Wemby in the fourth one
of seven from three five houls in twenty three minutes.

That's just not gonna get it done. So when Shammitt's
not coming off the bench lighting up the flamethrower, you
got Jordan Clarkson, who did chip in ten Alverado decent,
but Shammitt was a minus twenty. Deuce McBride didn't get
enough minutes, two shots did not happen, so the bench
didn't really show up. And then you go to the
Spurs bench Caldon Johnson plus fourteen. I do think he's

a little reckless and out of control. The turnovers killed me.
I probably should take back this tweet. I had maybe
a little harsh So Keldon won the sixth Man.

Okay, and you watch him play and you're like, Okay,
he's fine, but six man, that's the best six guy
in the league. And I had this hot take that
the reason he won the award is because voters were like, well,
that's first, we're great, we got to give him something.
We're not giving it to Wemby, right, we're not giving
him the MVP. Fine, let's give Keldon Johnson six minute

the year. And he was good, he had good stats.
But you watch him and well, I'm sorry, guys, he's
not better than Dylan Harper. I'm sorry, he's just not. Now,
Dylan Harper missed a bunch of shots, but Rob pointed
that out. He was like, you wouldn't know it from
harper stat line how much he impacted the game. I
thought he had a great game, and I look five
of eighteen. I was like, holy smokes, but he had
thirteen points, nine rebounds. He was excellent. And I know

people are going to say, well, the stats, and that's
what we get bogged down to. Listen, guys, this is
the NBA Finals. Okay, We're up to like ninety five
games played this season. Guys are tired. Everybody tries on
every possession. It's harder to score. You can look across
the board in the history of basketball. Fine, let's just
go to the modern era. Guys' stats are depressed in
(06:15):
the finals because it's just really difficult to score, which
brings us to Jalen Brunson. And I'm tooting Brunson's horn
every time that he has a clutch moment. And you
know we're three games in now, and you know he
had his most points thirty two, five rebounds, five assists.
(06:37):
But then you look a little closer and it's thirty
two points on twenty five shots. So his shot attempts
for Brunson thirty one, twenty five to twenty five. Last
round it was twenty nine sixteen, nineteen fourteen against the
Sixers eighteen twenty one, twenty two to seventeen. So close games,
way more Brunson. And I don't think that's a bad thing.
I mean, he was a clutch Player of the Year

two years ago. He he scored the game winning go
ahead points in game one, scored the game winning three
throw in game two. He's clutched. In game three, he
was fine, he had a big three point play there late,
but it didn't feel like the Knicks got everyone else involved. Again,
if sham it's not coming in hitting threes, you're getting
nothing from mckel bridges. Where's Karl Anthony Towns? And I

keep hearing Charles Barkley out here, while Karl Anthony Towns
is my MVP. Could somebody give Barkley the stats that
he Kat does not have a point in the fourth
quarter in three games, not a point. Go look it up.
I went through the box scores again. I'm not killing Kat,
but like eleven points, ten shots, I don't know, he
ain't the MVP. My guy ogn Andov plus four thousand.

He carried him, he had twenty eight. He was excellent.
But overall it just felt like the Knicks players. Maybe
they were too amped right playing at home in front
of the garden, the juiced up crowd. Maybe they were
I don't Maybe they thought this was over winning the
first two. You know, you have an extra day to
read your headline clippings. It's impossible to not to be
on social media. They're planning the parade route. Series is over.

call I told you guys. The Spurs a winning Game three.
Now I don't have a pick yet for game four.
The problem is they don't get the extra day before
game four. They get it before game five. Oh wait, yeah,

I'm sorry, Yeah, two days off before game five. If
the Spurs can somehow win game four, get this, because
here's how it goes, it goes Game five, San Antonio,
Game six, New York, Game seven, San Antonio. So an
extra day between five, six and seven. That is enormous. Now,
my inclination, rob is to go with the Knicks in

Game four, but I'm not gonna fire on anything yet.
I feel like I've got a good read on the
series and I'm not nervous for the Knicks yet because
I think I think they're gonna be okay in Game four.
But if ween beIN Yama plays like that and Castle
plays like that and Bruns does not get any help,
then yeah, the Knicks are in trouble.

This game was all about Victor Wmenyama, Steph Castle and
the Spurs, like they took it to the Knicks right
from opening tip.

First four shot attempts all at the rim, which is
big for a guy like him, because I know he
can and shoot threes. That's not really his game. His
game is not a three point marksman. His game is
being the tallest, longest dude who've ever seen. Use your
physical gifts. You're taller than everybody out there. Getting near
the basket, they're gonna be a post up game, but
(10:15):
something going towards the rim is where your advantage lies.
And credit to him, he did not settle early. It
set things up with that later in the game. They
had to respect his aggressiveness and he's getting open threes
later that like, we'll work it that way inside the outside.
Steph Castle early in the game was the guy who
really carried them through. Now even though they gave it
(10:38):
up very quickly and it became a seven point deficit
at half right out of halftime. The first thing they
do they ratchet up the defense. Couple of sloppy turnovers, right,
Jalen Brunson, and a seven point lead is suddenly a
one point deficit in the first six minutes of the
third quarter.

And so the San Antonio Spurs were the more aggressive,
the more forceful team all night, and it played out
that way. If the Knicks would have found a way
to steal this one after that og Ananobi three pointer
there in the corner, I would have been absolutely shocked
because they did not deserve to win that game. San
Antonio was better for three, probably three and a half

quarters of this game.

And I'm excited even though I had did I thought
that they were gonna win this one. This has been
a great series so far. Every game has been closed,
Every game has been competitive, and without you know, piling
on too much because I know he's your guy and

But Jalen Brunson has just not been good in the series.

Wait a minute, he has not been good. You what

Otherwise he didn't do much in this game, so he

That has been Jalen Brunson throughout this series. He hits
one good shot in Game two. He has a little
flurry there at the fourth quarter of Game one, but
outside of that, he has been a what an undersized
defensive liability shot chucker in this series so far. Now

it's only been three games and because they're up three.

Two on hold on, I'm talking Are you calling garon

I'm talking about Jalen Brunson.

Oh gosh, Jayalen Brunson is averaging as many turnovers as assists,
which is not good.

When you're the point guard and your usage rate is
like forty, that's not good.

And the people say, oh, twenty seven, four and four,
Look what Jayalen Brunson's doing. He had a couple, he
had some key baskets. Yes, in the first two games
in this series. He's averaging twenty seven attempts a game
and shooting thirty seven percent from the field. There is
no reason why it's to take you twenty seven shots
to get twenty seven points. There's no reason why as
(12:47):
the lead ball handler, you average as many turnovers as assists,
especially when you consider the other three scorers in your
starting lineup, Kat, Og and mchal are all shooting over five.

The problem is Kat is only getting twelve shots a game.
Og is only getting twelve shots a game, and mcal
Bridges is only getting eight shots a game because Jalen Brunson.
I don't know if this is schematic or what, but
one of the reasons why, and in fact, the biggest
reason why the Knicks became arguably the greatest postseason team ever,
(13:22):
is because they made that shift in the minute in
the Atlanta series to run the offense not entirely, but
a lot of times through Kat Kat on the pinch post.
Apparently he can unlock things with his passing that we
didn't know about because he has done this since college,
and that's how they really took off offensively. This series
so far, through the first three games has been a
(13:43):
lot of the Jalen Brunson hero ball, which works a
lot in the regular season but is not working out
against the defenders that San Antonio has. They have to
find a way to get these other guys more involved
if they are going to seal the deal the way
that they should.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
So it took me a moment to wonder, what's going
on with Brunson. Why, Well, I'm not killing him as
much as you are. So I just went to his
shot chart. Rob for this game, twenty five shots in
a lot, Okay, he's missing a ton of shots in
the lane that he normally makes. Who else last round

missed a lot of shots in the lane that he
normally makes.

SGA.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I think this is the Wemby impact. That's my best
read on this. So you could get on Chimpagnee or
vas Vassel, Castle, Harper, whoever it is. You could get
by them. But when you're going up against the calves, okay,
it's Evan Mobley or Jared Allen, normal sized humans. Okay,
when you're going up against the pistons, it's what duran.
Come on, give me right, nobody's scare to him. You

get into the lane against most teams, you're gonna get buckets.
Runson getting into the lane, it looks like he missed one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight eight shots in the painted area. That's an unfathomable
number for a guy who's super money and a great
closer in the lane. His midrange is one of the
best in the league. SGA fell victim to that, and
(15:06):
now we're only we didn't see ten blocks from Wemby
like we did in that first game against the How
many did he did he have it? Like eleven in
a playoff game or something like that.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
I think it's the Blazers, Yeah, Blazers.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Right, so he only had three blocks, but he's altering
shots or you're at least thinking about it, so it's
not as much of a layup. Now again, maybe that's
an excuse for my guy Brunson. Maybe it's these defenders
that are wearing on them. I mean, they're not just
putting Castle on them. Now we need the tracking IQ
data that doesn't come out until later this morning. I
think it's genius IQ where they can actually break down
(15:37):
how everyone did when guarded by Castle, Kelton Johnson, whoever
it is, I don't know Rob that that's the only
thing I could come up with. But it also looked
like the Spurs for large portions slowed it down. Now
that would be most of the fourth quarter. Nix missed
ten straight threes to open the fourth after going I
think six of nine in the third again three point
(15:59):
variant is everything six of nine, you're coming back. But
as soon as they cooled off at the end of
the third, the Spurs were able to like you know,
right the ship and where. I think they were up
one heading into the fourth, and then the Knicks cannot
hit a three to save their life. So I don't
know what's your concern level for New York heading into
game four. I have not seen a line yet, but

they were minus one and a half minus two for
Game three. Again, I do believe this one day layoff
is huge, so I will give the edge to the Knicks.
I'm seeing Nicks minus one and a half again. Interesting.

at home, which, off Kraves, is a big that maybe
not in this series because the road team has won
every single game. But I think you agree even that
the Spurs have the best player in this series, Victor
Weyman Yama, even on his off nights, which I believe
that Karl Anthony Towns, you know, on a possession by

possession basis, outplayed Wemby through games one. In Game two,
but if you just look at the counting stats, he's
giving you twenty nine, ten and five stocks a game
right on forty seven percent shooting who Wemby Wemby, So
the counting stats are always going to favor him. He's
been the best player, and he's he's probably gonna continue

to be the best player in any series he plays
moving forward through the rest of his career. But at
this stage of their careers, at this current juncture in
twenty twenty six, here in June, the Knicks have a
better collection of players right now. That doesn't mean next
season that Harper and cass are going to make the
leap that they're continuing to meet.

The trajectory is incredible, But at this.

Point in time, og Kat, Heartbridges Bruns and that collective
is a better group than what the Spurs have right now.
So I would imagine coming into this next game, they
just have more levers they can go to than San Antonio.

Okay, well, it's interesting you mentioned Towns as a lever.
Thirty eight minutes one assist not.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Running it through him.

They're maybe they can't him. Is it because they can't
I don't I have That's a great question. I'd have
to drill down. So in the first two games of
the series he had four assists. In the last round
he averaged for assists. The round before that he averaged
seven and a half against the Sixers, and of course
Atlanta was when we saw it most, he averaged six.
So all of a sudden, he's not the focal point

of the offense anymore. Is that because Wemby turned the
water off or they stopped putting Wemby in action? These
are good questions. I again, in the aftermath the game
just sented. It's after midnight here on the East coast.
Maybe that's it. They don't want to go at Wemby
as much because he is, you know, Victor Wemenyama, and
he's gonna tough stuff out.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
I mean, that's fair. But let's say that is the case. Right,
you say, hey, we don't want to attack Wemby with kat,
Why can't we attack Vassal with og? Why can't we
not attack Champagnee with mcel Like? I know, it doesn't
seem like it because mccol bridge only had two points
one to five. There's been a couple of games where
he just hasn't taken a lot of shots. But every
one of these guys, save for Josh Hart, has been

a twenty plus per game score on a different franchise.
OG was the guy for at least the season there
in Toronto, Kat was the guy for several seasons in Minnesota.
Mcel was the guy in Brooklyn. The team wasn't very good,
but you know that at a minimum, you can feature
some kind of offense around him, and he has the
requisite skills where he can get you some buckets.

So you're saying, hold on, So so Towns, Heart and
Bridges combined took twenty five shots, Brunston took twenty five.
You're saying that that needs to be a little more parceled.

Yeah, it needs to be a little unige just because
as we've seen in this series. Now everybody's pointing to
the results. You say, hey, they're dub to two to one.
They won the first two games on the road, so
obviously what they're doing is working. But anybody who knows
a little bit about basketball, you can clearly see that
they seem to operate as a group better when Jalen
(20:10):
Brunson is not dominating the ball against this specific opponent
That may not be what's best for them long term,
or against ninety five percent of the league, but against
this specific team all Jalen Brunson all the time is
not where they're at their best. They were at their
best when their bench was getting up and down and
moving freaking GTA Jose Alvarado was over there making stuff happen.

Then Game one, know og was making stuff happen. Game
two mcal Bridges making stuff happen. And it seems like
when they just say high pick and roll or isolation
with Jalen Brunton, they get bogged down, They don't always
get the best shot attempts, and he has not been
efficient enough yet through this first three games to say
why should we just stick with it? Why can't we
not tryst someone else?

Okay, so I'm amazingly YouTube is just so good. You
can actually go on there and look back at like
a condensed version of the game. So I just started watching.
In the first quarter, they didn't come out with Castle
on Brunson. Champagney first possession, so they early on they
mixed it up, but the Knicks got those turnovers early
and the Spurs jump out to a big league By
the way, Spurs have won all three first quarters.

Gover digous, don't digeous every time.

I don't know if they'll do that again in this one.
Remember they did in all the home games against the Thunder.
They did it here the first three games of the series.
They have the best starting lineup in the league, but
as Rob points out, the Knicks have more higher level balance. Right.

Just a veteran thing more than any It's not a
talent thing. It's, hey, we've been there longer. We kind
of know what to expect with the ebbs and flows
of a game. And you always, and again this is
not a Spurs thing. You're historically you're gonna go with
the veteran team in these situations every time.

Over the young time.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
I did see a weird stat that in the second
half the Spurs took like twenty two free throws and
the Knicks took like six. And I know some people
are chirping, but for the game it was thirty two
attempts for the Spurs to the Knicks. I mean they
both shot about the same number of threes. It did
appear as if Fox's idea was to get to the bucket.
(22:09):
Castle was to get to the bucket. He took six,
So they're driving more. The Knicks like Josh Hart zero
three throws, Bridges zero three throw. They're not attacking Cat.
Wasn't attacking Cat barely shot. So I do think maybe
a little bit the Knicks got out of character up
two Oho going home, And my read is the Spurs
made minor adjustments and Webbin Yama an extra day arrest.
(22:33):
He played the most minutes and he had his best game.
The question is can he do that again? Rob I
off was just one day rest, so down three to one, shit,
will actually Rob if you have two days between every
other game, maybe it's not a death sentence to be
down three to one here.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I mean, you don't want to test that theory. You don't, don't, right,
But yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
And again yeah, I tried to sell Rob on the
first three games or clutch all had clutch minutes in
the final three minutes, and you I could make a
decent argument that after being down fourteen. In game two,
they tie it up with three minutes left, and you know,
Wenby does a throw off Castle's back. They ty Gabe,
they probably you know, they win that game, so you
(23:18):
could argue they would then be up to one. So again,
I don't think this is over. I mean, I think
I feel good the Knicks win the series. I don't
think it's like over though. Does that make any sense
or am I talking out I'm talking out of both sides.

No, I mean it's totally reasonable to have that opinion,
if only because if you just look at the game logs,
all of these games were close in the last two minutes.
Now the game one doesn't appear that I think they
final score was by ten, but that's because you know,
garbage time, they get some free throws, they get a
late basket, the game's already out of reach and that's
kind of the end of it. But these last two
(23:51):
games have been decided by a total of five points combined.
So you can absolutely make the case that this series,
and it has been it's been a great so far.
But you can make the case that this series could
go either way. It's just I feel like the eye
test says that the Knicks have been the better team
through the first three games in the totality, and that's
why they're up to one.

Real quick, did you see the play in the first
quarter where Wemby kind of chucked Brunson. Yeah, I loved
it near the felon. So if you watch it and again,
people are gonna say I'm a hater. Look at it closely.
At the beginning of the clip, Brunson with his left
hand is literally pulling on Wemby's jersey. He's pulling him,
but Wemby's like saying, get off me, and so he

just shoves it. Now, it was clearly excessive, But if
you watch closely, Karl Anthony Towns is doing a lot
of this hook stuff. The Knicks are crafty. They're really
doing stuff. And again I know, hey Jay, wait, you
said you hated when the Spurs when the thunder were
