Well that's right, you heard the man that time of week.

(00:25):
way tire buying should be. And in the words of
Friedrich Nietzsche, out of cass comes order. The NFL is back,
and what a start like we always say, the greatest
reality show. And you can script everything but the ending,
except once again, Lamar and the Baltimore Ravens fail to
(00:49):
stick the landing against the Chiefs. See what I did
there kind of reminds me of a story deja vuol
over again, Yogi. You may ever heard of the story
of Frick and Frack. They were sitting at a bar
one night, throwing back a couple. Eleven o'clock the news
comes on. The eleven o'clock news comes on, and the
eyewitness news team goes out to a location where some
poor individual is getting ready to jump off the fourth
(01:12):
floor Frick looks at Fraket says, I'll bet you a
hundred bucks. He doesn't jump. Fract says you're on. Two
seconds later, the gentleman jumps. Frick looks at flat Frack
slams his fists on the table, says, I can't believe it.
I can't believe he jumped practice. I can't accept your
hundred dollars, Frick. I've already seen the six o'clock news,
(01:34):
and I already knew that he had jumped Frix's I
saw the six o'clock news too, I didn't think he
jump again. Hello Baltimore, Welcome to the twenty twenty four
NFL season. Whereas Casey Stenegal once said teams can't beat
the Yankees because they get stuck staring at the pinstripes.
I don't know how the hell this kryptonite thing came
up with Lamar Jackson, but this was inevitable. Casey was
(01:55):
gonna find a way. It didn't matter how winter why.
I was on Monday Labor Day with Aaron and VJ.
They were filling in. They asked me, what well I
expect Thursday? That X set I expect points. We got
him went over the total and somehow, some way Casey's
gonna win after getting beat by Detroit last year. Week one,
Kadarius Dony dropping the passes, blah blah blah. This team
(02:16):
is focused, they are locked in, they are on a mission.
Get out of the way, paging Xavier Worthy. That even
isn't even half of it or the start of it.
And what is everybody talking about? Can we okay, we've
had our twenty four hours at fun? Can we never
use the word toll again? We get it, I get it.
The toe didn't come down in bounds, game set, match,
(02:37):
go home drive safely. Thanks for joining us. There's so
much more to talk about than that. Did you happen
to see Xavier Worthy's first touchdown run? That set a tone?
That was a freak show. And don't think the Ravens
didn't notice that as well. By the way, Hollywood Brown
didn't even suit up for the Chiefs. There's another weapon
(02:58):
you're going to get about. Week three, let me tell
you another play no one's talking about. In the Chiefs'
final drive, before punting it back to Baltimore, Patrick Mahomes
threw the pass that got deflected directly up in the air.
He and Andrew Reis went up got the rebound. That
was a huge play, the type of play that doesn't
show up in the box score. That may well have
(03:20):
saved the game. Baltimore would have had about a third
of a field and what two minutes to go instead
of ninety yards to go with a minute forty it
probably wouldn't have mattered. Like I said, deja vuol over again, freakin'
frack get stuck watching the Penns drips. They might have
found a way to screw it up. But regardless, you know,
(03:41):
Mahomes making that play was huge at the time. And oh,
by the way, I loved John Harbaugh holding up the
two fingers after Baltimore scored what we thought was a
touchdown until they reviewed it. There was no guarantee Baltimore
was gonna make that two point conversion. No guarantee, right,
And so the truth of the matter is, once again,
(04:02):
lots of stats, lots of big numbers, Baltimore. Did you
know it was like it was like the old The
operation was a wonderful success and the patient died. What
if I'd have told you before the game that Ravens
would have led in time of possession by a wide margin.
The Ravens had more first downs, they out gained the
Chiefs by one hundred yards, and they actually ran twenty
(04:23):
four more offensive plays. I would tell you there are layers,
there are damn layers, and there are statisticians, because at
the end of the day, when it matters most, when
the heat got hot, it's hard to breathe. Case he
made the plays, not Baltimore. Kansas City has championship DNA.
Baltimore is a terrific team, loaded with all kinds of
(04:45):
great athletes. They do not have championship DNA. Catch me
in January. Spot to lie. You know, you can lie
and wait and say I'll burn it you were wrong.
Maybe that would make for an even bigger story. We'll see.
And you know, another play no one else is talking about.
Did you notice that Za Flowers, two plays before the
infamous Isaiah Likely play, was roaming around the end zone
(05:07):
and the ball sailed over and said just a bit
outside wide left. How come no one is talking about
that play? At least I haven't heard much. Everybody's talking
about Isaiah Likely's toad landing on the white line. Frankly,
it should have never come to that one play prior,
Jay Flowers was wide open in the back of the
end zone. I mean wide open. Lamar Jackson just missed
(05:29):
the throw. Diddy or Didney? What really happened? Well, in
the postgame presser, it turns out Lamar Jackson wasn't even
targeting Jay Flowers. He was targeting a different receiver and
there was a I guess you could say a faire
to communicate along the way Justice Hill was blocking Chris
Jones and Jackson had to get rid of the ball
(05:50):
under pressure. Yes, why would a second string running back
be the only one blocking the best defensive tackle in football?
While Lamar Jackson, if he keeps his eyes down, I will,
by the way, I will defend Lamar Jackson a lot.
I like him. I will not defend justin fields. I'm fair,
Lamar Jackson can play the position. I don't know what's
(06:11):
going on, Kryptonite, you name it, all the things you mentioned,
But even Lamar admitted after the game it says, if
I held it just a bit more, I would have
fired a toay for a touchdown. And then next thing
was Isaiah like Lea's told, and the rest is history.
We're gonna be talking about it. Probably for the rest
of the season. But for the Chiefs, you know, basically
just business as usual, except don't look now, you've got
(06:35):
another missile xavier're Worthy. And I know I keep hearing
all day. Shame on the other forty one teams that
passed him up, Shame on the other teams that traded
about blah blah blah blah. So what you wouldn't have
used him the way Andy Reid would have, I guarantee you,
the way the Chiefs prosecute that offense, the way Andy
Reid and Patrick Mahomes, and the way they have their
(06:57):
trip from their training camp to their philosophy, to their
personnel groupings, to their row trees. Xavier Worthy couldn't be
in a better place, name a team where he'd to
flourish more. Maybe the forty nine Ers he would to
flourish more. But we'rethy only had three touches but two
win for scores, including the twenty one yard rushing touchdown.
(07:18):
And if go back and watch how well designed that
play was. Oh my god, he had a stampede of
blockers and his impact was felt, it was watched, it
was felt in the middle of the field. And because
right after that play, go back and watch the film.
Have a little fun with this. Rasheen Rice was open
on every play after that play. He ended up catching
(07:40):
seven passes for one hundred and three yards. Oh, by
the way, that I mentioned the Chiefs don't even have
Hollywood brown back. It's only the It was only the
first game of week one. And if you're looking for
a deja vu all over again, yogi, remember last year's
Super Bowl winner, the Chiefs. They lost their opener on
the same field. Now, this is a Ravens team that
(08:00):
tells us they've got championship aspirations and there's a long
way to go, and there's no reason to believe, barring
something completely unforeseen, that Baltimore doesn't find their way into
the playoffs. But if you didn't notice that there was
a tremendous gap between where the Ravens are and where
they need to be, and where the Ravens are and
(08:23):
where the Chiefs are, you might not have been paying attention.
And oh, by the way, did I mention that Kansas City,
they've got a few defensive centerpieces that are also superstars,
which you already know. Chris Jones made his presence known
very early in the game, stole an entire drive on
one play at a strip sack of Lamar Jackson, and
(08:44):
then he completely terrorized the Ravens offensive line throughout the game,
which I understand has been rebuilt, and they still look
like they're rebuilding. He at whatever matchup they put in
front of Chris Jones, he beat him like a rented mule,
beat him like a stickhorse. And so this is by
the way, Trent McDuffie. He lost their rep to Ravens
(09:06):
wide receivers Zave Flowers on the first drive. Then he
stuffed him on fourth down late in the second quarter.
There were plays right and left. You know a lot
of times the NFL comes down to five plays and
they don't always show up in the scorebook. Like I said,
Mahomes going up and getting that rebound. The Chiefs made
him when they needed to. The Ravens didn't for much
of the night. Also, the Chiefs offense was smooth, not
(09:28):
all night, but they were fast, they were decisive, they
were explosive, and yes they weren't perfect. They made mistakes.
I think the Chiefs brought their B game last night.
Isaiah Pacheco dropped a bullet on the wheel route on
the sideline that would have been a There was a
tremendous play design, and it's the kind of play that
(09:49):
a wide receiver would catch. It's a time, that kind
of play that Travis Kelty would catch. I think Pacheco
heard footsteps. He's a running back and he saw the
Baltimore centerfielder coming up. He was gonna be about to
get whacked. So he didn't hold onto the ball. But
the play design, Oh my god, Juju Smith Schuster later
he couldn't hold on to a pass with the goal
line had that in his hands. Chiefs had a set
(10:10):
up for a field goal, even though they had just
gotten a turnover fourteen yards on the inZone. So they
weren't perfect, nor did it need to be all right,
But once again the Chiefs, Yes, they've served. Notice, it's
good to be the king. They're better than they were
last year. And as far as Baltimore goes, you know,
(10:33):
lick your wounds, go back to the drawing board. And
I don't know anythink about this kryptonite deal or I
heard part of Lamar Jackson's response. He was kind of
inscrutable to me. It doesn't matter, don't tell me, show me.
But if you're keeping score at home, or if you're
scoring at home, and I hope you are. You look
at the teams in the AFC that theoretically, theoretically could
(10:55):
beat the Chiefs in January Miami. Maybe I won't Buffalo Away.
Everybody's down on them. I'm not, but I'm not predicting
it will. Trust me. No, it's not gonna be the Chargers.
Could it be the Texans?
Speaker 1 (11:08):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Could it be Baltimore. No, you can check Baltimore off
the list. They won't. There's no way in West Hell
they're beating Kansas City in January. No way, and they
know it, trust me, they know it. That leaves Cincinnati
and Joe Burrow. The list is narrowing. I don't want
to see anybody get hurt. This is gonna be a
great story the Chiefs are about to do. They can
(11:29):
do what the Green Bay Packers did back in nineteen
sixty seven. They won the first two Super Bowls. They
didn't play a Super Bowl in sixty six. It was
still the AFL NFL Championship game. Check out, it wasn't
even that it was the NFL Championship game. And the
Packers won at Vince Lobardi. So there's been a team
three pete in the Super Bowl era. There was just
the last two were Super Bowls, all right, So again
(11:50):
the story lines around. Oh, by the way that I
mentioned there was a game in Brazil the night Philadelphia
won thirty four to twenty nine. Nothing to see here,

Speaker 2 (13:29):
All right back at the Bernie Froutters Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you live from the tyrac dot com studios
here in Las Vegas. So much to get to, so
little time. We've got a what I believe will be
another rousing midnight hour topic here coming up in about
thirty eight minutes. Because from where I sit here in
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Western Hemisphere, it will be twelve
(13:53):
midnight literally in thirty eight hours or thirty eight minutes.
And from where you sit maybe it's twelve midnight as well,
but it's certainly a twelve midnight figuratively means you get
the last word and you get the drift. Eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox will take your calls. On
the bottom line, his callers have just been sensational. I'm
looking forward specifically to Knight's topic because it leads to
(14:15):
a larger subject matter. But I use this gentleman as
an example. And by the way, we're also about nine
hours and thirty eight minutes away. They're abounts of which
should be a fairly classic early matchup between two college
blue bloods, Texas at Michigan. And you know who's going
to be there. Derek Cheeter, he'll be Michigan's an honorary captain.
(14:37):
Matthew McConaughey, you're a movie guy. Don't forget our movie
segment brief three's at one. Michael Phelps will also be there.
He's an arbur guy. Will Ferrell not sure that Will
Ferrell connection. Not sure? Maybe Chaz Reinhold. One of my
favorite characters, Will Ferrell. He was at the end of
(14:58):
wedding crashers when he was a joking remember the sky
pilot that okay, forget it.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
He was.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
By the way, Will Ferrell went to University High School
in Orange County, was a kicker on the football team.
To minunderstand, all right, I digress before we get to
the key games tomorrow. There were some real takeaways from
last week, not the least of which that it looks
to me like it's kind of Georgia and everybody else Now.
They still got a long, long way to go. They
(15:27):
got some new faces, but Kirby smart they you know.
They rode Clemson like a stickhorse thirty four to three,
and it was a just a right out of Central
Casting Georgia performance, completely smothering defense. They held Clemson to
just one hundred and eighty eight yards of offense. Let's
(15:48):
just face it, Clemson's offense is not going to be good.
I don't think they could score with a fifth full
of fifties in a women's prison. But Georgia had almost
three hundred yards passed singing just under two hundred yards rushing,
and the key takeaway here is because you're gonna hear that,
you know Michigan, Well, they lost thirteen guys to the
(16:09):
NFL and they did well. Texas lost eleven, but somehow
they reloaded. Kirby Smart lost what about eighty guys to
the NFL last year, and once again Kirby Smart shows
his ability to reload after a heavy roster turnover. They
lost Brock Bowers lad Maconkie their top two rushers, and
they didn't have their top two running backs on the
depth chart. They had a freshman, Nate Fraser from modern
(16:31):
day in southern California average about eight yards of carries.
So it's important to remember that Kirby Smart and Georgia
had not lost to a team coached by someone other
than named Nick Saban in the last four years. So
Saban's now gone and the other team on the sidelines
was Clemson and their slide continues. Last year, Clemson went
(16:54):
into Duke to begin the season. They lost twenty eight
to seven, and the Tigers moved the ball that day,
but they couldn't score and it was Dablosweeney said it
was the weirdest game he'd ever been a part of,
But you know, Clemson just continues to get their butt
kicked now. And you cannot ignore the fact that, you know,
there's an old saying adapter die right. And if you
(17:17):
go back to twenty twelve, Nick Saban said he hated
the no huddle offense. He questioned whether the speed of
the no huddle was good for the game. He cited
player safety. The truth of the matter is old Nick,
I love Nick. That was in his style, and he
someone might have been getting up on it over on him,
and you know they're getting their offense in gear where
you're trying to rotate in personnel groupings, and that you know,
(17:37):
all of a sudden you get penalties. But Saban knew
and made it clear that if he did not adapt,
his offenses and his championship opportunities would go right down
a dumper. So Saban fixed it. They fixed the pace
of play, they fixed the RPOs. He said, he basically
realized that at first, we you know, struggle with this
(17:57):
what he called the new age of football. But he
adapted when they figured it out, say hey, you can't
beat him, you better join him. You better figure this out.
Enter the case of one mister Christopher William Dabbosweeney, Clemson's
head coach who when the history books are written, his
legacy secure. But he's starting to sing like an ambulttle
bugs bunny cartoon. Not good, not good. He's put himself
(18:19):
at the wrong end of the transfer portal debate. I
don't know anybody really loves the transfer portal. I was
a college athlete. My situation wasn't perfect, but you know,
you sucked it up, okay, and I think you're better
for it. And maybe not everybody does that. I get that.
I totally get that. But it's still rampant right now.
And and you know, Jim Harbaugh wasn't particularly a fan
of the transfer portal or an il. He used it
(18:41):
to backfill talent. Right his recruiting is still the forerunner.
But this is the new age, and I think Dabosweeney's
been downright obstinate and ignorant when it comes to understanding
the new age of college football. That's why he's getting
his butt kicked against the other blue bloods went in
(19:01):
just a few years ago. He's winning national championships. He
also famously said that he would leave the game if
college players ever got paid. Yeah, okay, that's been happened
in a few years, Dabbo. Maybe you didn't, you know,
read the newspaper. You didn't move, You didn't you didn't quit.
And you know, I get it that Swinny has a
severe version of the transfer portal, but his teams are
(19:24):
completely out of whack. And I don't think it's going
to get much better. And so you got another embarrassing
start of the season, another embarrassing loss to a team
that you were beating three years ago. And you know
now he's taken on callers on his radio show and
right on down the line. It's not going well. Either
get it or you don't. And and you know, Kirby Smart,
(19:46):
he's managed it better. And that's why they beat Clemson
by thirty one points the other day. Another takeaway from
last week. For one game, Miami looked pretty darn good.
Man cam wored their quarterback from Washington State just picked
a part Florida and Mario Cristobal's reputation as an elite recruiter.
(20:09):
He is pretty good. He's always been good, but he's
never never really done it on the field. Okay, I
think that he's gotten players, but they've never really met
expectations that happened that didn't happen. Last Saturday, they strolled
into the swamp.
Speaker 9 (20:23):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
They beat the Gators forty one to seventeen. Their new
quarterback Camoard, who just came in from Washington State, through
for three eighty five and three touchdowns. Numbers are impressive,
but this is a Miami team that looks pretty good,
very good, and again on the other side of the sidelines,
much like Dabos Swineye Billy Napier, he might want to
(20:45):
start polishing up his resume and packing up his office.
Let's review, Florida got pounded forty one to seventeen by
their in state rival brutal. The forty one points were
the most Florida ever allowed in an opening week game.
It was their first loss in a home opener. Forget
(21:06):
the fact that they got their butt kicked. They don't
even lose home openers. The last time the Miami Hurricane
check that the Florida Gators lost in their home opener.
The first George Bush had just been elected president. That's
all ago was nineteen eighty nine for you history majors.
And look Dan Mullen, you know they said he was
(21:29):
laughing in Florida I don't know. He seems like a
good dude. He got fired. He went to three consecutive
New Year Six games in his first three years. They
let him go in his fourth season. What the hell
they're going to do to Billy Napier? Send him to
Singapore and have him caned. This was his breaker, make
or break season. It's not starting well and it's gonna
get worse. They've got they still got to play Tennessee
(21:50):
Georgia lsu old Miss Texas. I like to thank Florida
for participating. Finally, another big takeaway, Notre Dame is going
to be in the playoffs. Texas A and M was
a test regardless of how good they were going to be.
Marcus Freeman has put together a defense. It's very stout.
And I will tell you this. Riley Leonard, who transfers
over from Duke Aaron Torres and I talked about this.
(22:13):
We believe it was gonna fall on his shoulders. He's
a very talented guy. If alex Orgy and Michigan can
be Riley Leonard, Michigan can be very good again this year,
that's a long way to go. I mean, this guy runs,
he throws, He's a field general. I will tell you
Notre Dame very interesting. Keep your eye on them. They're
(22:33):
going to be in the playoff and that's another thing.
We'll talk about it in future shows. The beauty of
this new format is you could lose your first week,
lose your first two weeks. Believe it or not, I'm
not being funny. There's actually a path for Florida State,
not Florida, Florida State, to get into the playoffs. Is
it gonna happen? Oh no, But they're not dead just
(22:55):
two games into the column season, okay, because they played
week zero, Florida State completely broken team. They told us
they would pick up where they left off last year.
Well maybe they did. They lost to Georgia sixty three
to three in the bowl game, But technically, technically the
ACCA title game is up for grabs if Florida keeps winning.
That's the beauty of this new playoff format coming up. Well,
(23:20):
you know him, you love and he can't leave without him.
But he's starting to make a caricature out of himself.
We got to talk about him. There are a lots
there are a lot of adjectives starting to describe this guy,
and most of them aren't good and you're gonna get
to see him kick it off at Nebraska when I
think is in a Brent revenge game on four to
thirty Pacific on Saturday. Yes, we're gonna be talking about
(23:44):
Dion Sanders. Don't miss this. The first we go to
our guy, the chef, Kevin Wyrett with the latest.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
Yeah Bernie In at the NFL. We had some Friday
Night Lights action down in Brazil as the Ego squared
off against the Green Bay Packers and fill it getting
a huge night from their newest acquisition, Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 10 (24:04):
On the first down, this time I go and run
up the bubble for a touchdown. Take one, Barkley hey
sucking touchdown.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
Of the game, won by air and one on the ground.
That was the second of three touchdowns on the day
for Saquon Barkley. That call courtesy of the Eagles Radio Network.
He had one hundred and nine rushing yards to go
along with those three total touchdowns. Jayden Reid four catches
one hundred and thirty eight yards a touchdown for Green Bay.
But to add injury to insult, Jordan Love had to
(24:33):
be helped off of the field after he suffered an
apparent lower lake injury with just six seconds to go,
and Matt Laflora twice asked about love status in his
news conference and he said, quote, I don't know, and
Love did not speak to the media after the game.
In college football, we had a couple of Friday Night
Lights games going on Duke in Northwestern on the shores
(24:55):
of Lake Michigan. This one went to double overtime, the
Blue Devils outlasting the Wildcats twenty six to twenty. B
YU edges SMU eighteen to fifteen, and any blowout Indiana
a blowout win against Western Illinois seventy seven to three.
Major League Baseball, we're in the home stretch of these
pennant races. The AL East standing's unchanged though from yesterday,
(25:18):
both the Yankees and Baltimore Orioles getting wins. On Friday's
the Yankees blank the Cubs three to nothing. Oriels also
with a shutout victory two to nothing. That American League
Central is another division to keep an eye on. But
the Guardians still firmly in command, it seems, though. They
are four and a half games up on Kansas City,
five up on Minnesota. The Guardians getting a win in
(25:39):
Los Angeles on Friday, three to one against the Dodgers.
Royals shut out the Twins five nothing, and the Dodgers
also having some bad news besides the loss, as Gavin
Stone getting placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
He's the team's eighth starting pitcher currently on the il,
(26:00):
and to make matters worse, outfielder ti Oscar Hernandez likely
heading to the injured list after being hit in the
foot by a pitch. That's according to manager Dave Roberts.
In tennis US Open Men's Action, number one seed Jennick
Sinner advanced to the final of the US Open with
a straight sets win over twenty five seeded Jack Draper
(26:21):
and center will face Taylor Fritz. He defeated Francis Tiofo
tonight in five sects. NFL News Steeler's quarterback Russell Wilson
listened as questionable in the team's injury report of the
string calf muscle. Jamar Chase is doubtful for his home
matchup with New England. Excuse me, T Higgins is doubtful.
Jamar Chase is questionable for that matchup with New England
(26:44):
and Christian McCaffrey limited in practice again on Friday. He's
been dealing with a calf injury. Back to you, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
All right, So last week, Week one, as it were,
there were some very nice sexy marquee matchups LSU, USC,
West Virginia, Penn State, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, A
and M just to name a few. But guess which
of those games, Which of any game last Saturday had
(27:09):
by far the biggest betting handle, Yes, you guessed at
Colorado North Dakota State on Thursday night the biggest handle handle,
meaning there was more money wagered on that game than
any other college football game. And you know why. And
for the record, uh, Colorado won. They didn't cover the spread,
and for the record, North Dakota State put up four
(27:30):
hundred and forty nine yards of offense. Colorado could not
stop the run and they couldn't run the ball. They
rushed for a grand total of fifty nine yards two
point six yards to carry. By the way, that offensive
line we were told that was rebuilt. Shudor Sanders got
hit more than Rocky bell Bow in that game. If
(27:52):
this keeps up, he's gonna end up with more surgeries,
and you know the Joan rivers. Where am I going
with this? What is going on in Colorado? Because I
like Dion, I've always liked Dean, but I can hold
two thoughts concurrently when you observe the job he's doing there.
We would totally beat this change agent, and he has been,
(28:14):
but now it's shifted. Does anybody really expect him to
beat Nebraska Saturday? Matt rules Saturday. I don't. I don't.
Nebraska's gonna block and tackle. They got a good little
quarterback of their own, Dylan Roola, son of Dominic Roola,
was the center for the Lions for all those years.
And teams are covered and you know, God by the
name of Matt Hayes just he's some incredibly good adjectives
(28:39):
describing Dion Sanders all bling, no bang, Colorado struggles past
North Dakota State. This is a program that's been referred
to as surface nonsense. It's a constant drone of noise,
just noise. And the truth of the matter is ESPN's
cashing and nice the advertising because we're watching it's turning
(29:02):
into a train wreck. And here's the reality. Is deal
really building anything foundational at Colorado? There doesn't feel like
there's a whole hell of a lot of substance right now.
There's a revolving door of players. Believe it or not,
it's first two years. There's actually been more than one
hundred and twenty different scholarship players go through the revolving
(29:24):
door in the last two years. That's incredible. They haven't
beaten an FBS opponent since the first week of last October.
And yet I'm doing it. I'm guilty of it right
now by this commentary, watch any you know sports reporting,
and Colorado still continues to suck up a lot of
(29:45):
oxygen from the room from nearly every primetime television window.
And if there's anything you've learned the reality of this
from Colorado's somewhat ugly thirty one twenty six defeat of
a very respectable and Deonna acknowledged this, a very respectable,
(30:06):
very well buttoned up North Dakota State team last Thursday.
And if there's anything you notice, it's that Colorado is
really nothing more than flash and dash. They claim they
fixed some problems, they didn't. They're just combobulated. They're just
throwing together. And someone told us they were a threat
(30:29):
to win the Pac twelve last year, they weren't. Someone
told us they were a threat to win the Big twelve.
Speaker 11 (30:33):
They're not.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
And what I think is happening, if I'm being honest,
you may not like it because it's Dion's name. The
truth of the matter is this is a master class
on really how not to build a college football program.
Now I think he's got two of the top five
draft choices on the team. Shudor Sanders is legit. He
checks every box. He is a five tool quarterback if
(30:56):
you get my drift, and he will be a first rounder.
And if you draft him, you're going to get the
swagger that comes with it. And I don't like it particularly,
but he's a player. He's legit. So is Travis Hunter.
And he's going to be worn out probably by Halloween.
But he is a dog and I gotta say he
probably he probably helps some NFL teams right now. But
(31:19):
beyond that, you got another little slot receiver Jimmy Horn Junior,
who transferred in from South Florida, tremendous. He's like a
poor man's version of Xavier Whor really really good player.
But you don't build football teams in the periphery at
the end of the day, and I realized football is
now basketball on turf because DB's linebackers run like DB's
(31:40):
did twenty years ago. Defensive ends run run like linebackers
did twenty years ago. You put your athletes in space
to make plays, but you still got a block and tackle,
and you still have to run the ball. You cannot
be one dimensional. So he really transced form the program.
Is his inspirational? Is it foundational? If Dion were to
(32:03):
leave tomorrow, has he left a blueprint of future success
in this new era of college football and the transfer portal?
Or this is just basically a master class on get
your bling, get your name, image and likeness. At the
end of the day, it's not good football. It is
not good football. They took on North Dakota State, a
(32:26):
bunch of just a terrific program period. Look at their history.
They were not recruited by FBS schools, and they stayed
in the program in the last three four years they
rolled into town and I got to tell you, they
smacked the buffs around a little bit for three quarters. Meanwhile, Colorado,
a team that began last season with eighty five different
(32:47):
scholarship players and followed that with another offseason roster purge.
They added another forty two scholarship players. They struggled to finanswers.
But as long as you got your Door Sanders and
Travis Hunter, it's going to make up for this prime
time time experiment that almost lost it's ninth time in
the last ten games. Now, I do believe Shudor Sanders
(33:08):
will be probably a top ten pick in the twenty
twenty five draft. And what do you hear Dion says
complaining that Shudoor and Hunter aren't talked enough about the Heisman?
Why is that your focus? They had four wins last year,
I don't I think they could end up on four
wins this year. We'll see and what happens next year
Shudor Sanders leaves for the NFL, Travis Hunter does Dion,
(33:33):
you know, get out of Dodge as it were. We're
gonna find out. So it kind of leads to my
first I got to thinking about this after I saw
Brian Kelly slamming his fist on the table after losing
to USC. Brian Kelly now owe six against the spread
on Labor Day Marquee games, and I think he's lost
(33:55):
all three years he's been at LSU. He's lost his opener,
but again in this new playoff format, not to worry,
they can certainly be there. But he not only you're
never gonna like the way you lose, but he particularly
didn't like the way he lost. And I'm hearing now
that Kelly's become sort of this guy that people root against.
I got to thinking about Dion. Tell me when you
(34:16):
dial in the night in eighteen minutes eight seven to
seven nine nine on Fox, you tell me do you
think Dion is good for college football or not? Think
about all the things I just said, is he you know,
we're not foundational or not inspirational or not aspirational. It's
just bling and noise and a lot of beat in
your chest and too much talking and banning reporters. It's
(34:39):
not good. So it begs the question, is Dion good
for college football or bad for college football? I want
to hear from you. Secondly, as the season continues, I'd
like to know this, are you rooting for Dion to
succeed or fail? Either way, You're gonna have a baffel story.
(35:02):
If Dion succeeds, wouldn't that be something? What if Colorado rallied,
made a liar out of me and found their way
into the playoffs? Would that be a story? Yes, it
would be. Or what if they continue to fall on
their face? Are you rooting for Dion to succeed or
are you rooting for Dion to fail? I really would
like to know. Secondarily, as an offshoot to that subject,
(35:28):
I'd like to know this. You all know you hate watch.
You all know there are certain people in life, certain athletes,
maybe even entertainers, you root for to fail. Who makes
your list? Don't be bashful, Our callers never are there.
They've been fantastic. Who do you root for to fail?
(35:49):
And are you rooting for Dion to fail? And again
along those lines, maybe you don't have an opinion on him?
I bet you do. I don't think there's anybody really
in the middle on Dion. The bottom line is this,
I'd like to know if you are rooting for Dan
to fail or succeed, if you think he's good or
bad for college football? Along those lines, as you start
to rack your brain, who do you root for to fail?
(36:10):
I'm Bernie Frader. We're coming to your line from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tirect dot Com studios. Keep
it locked you listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, back at the Bernie Fraddle Show,
Fox Fords Radio, we are coming to you live from
the tirect dot com studios here in Las Vegas. Take
up to two am Pacific five am Eastern. In nine minutes,
will begin taking your calls eight seven, seven nine nine
(36:32):
six six three six nine people starting to call in.
Always look forward to your thoughts Dion Sanders. Is he
good for college football or bad for college football? The
narrative is shifting, the landscape is shifting, the perception is shifting.
From where I sit, in eight minutes, it will be
(36:53):
twelve midnight Pacific time, literally and from where you sit
perhaps here in this same situation, but we have listeners
all around the world, so figuratively it is in fact
the midnight hour. The callers have made this great. We
want to hear your thoughts on Dion. You think he's
good or bad for college football? Are you rooting for
him to succeed or rooting for him to fail? And
(37:15):
while we're at come outs, have a little fun. You know,
people root against Jerry Jones, they roote against Dak Prescott
they root against Lebron James, they roote against Taylor Swift, whatever,
Just we are not solving the world's problems.
Speaker 12 (37:29):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
In the world of sports talk radio and the shopping
mall of sports talk radio sports little toy department, we
get to talk about things like, I mean, could Florida
State still make the college football Playoff last year? If
this were last year, zero chance they're done, Stick a
fork in them. But this new playoff format gives automatic
bits to the five highest rank conference championships. If somehow
(37:54):
now again, I think there's a better chance of you know,
led Zeppelin re recording the Gilligan's Island Themes song and
selling a million copies in Florida State coming back and
winning the ACC. But if they do it, they'll be
guaranteed at least the fifth spot on the list. Even
if a Mount West or an AAC team finishes ran tire,
a group of five team is getting in, baby or
(38:15):
checked that a well group one group of five team
is getting in as well. But the power five teams
are all getting in. So let's be clear, Florida State's
look like a drunk crossing in icy street. Dj U
is lost, you know, that by now he's like Mike
McCarthy looking for his mall car on the mall parking lot.
(38:35):
They're so far removed. But here's the key with the
new playoff format. You can't count them out.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
And I think that's what's great about this format. We're
gonna be talking about it all year. By the way,
gives some big time credit to Bill O'Brien, first year
coach at Boston College. Just that Bill O'Brien, the one
that dropped the most f bombs ever in the history
of hard knocks, really had his team prepared stroll into
Tallahassee Campbell Stadium win outright as a thirteen point underdog
(39:04):
eight seven seven, nine to nine, six six nine ninety
six six three sixty nine. Now I'm up. It's the
midnight hour on the Bernie Frattle Show. Keep it lock
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Yep, that's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We
are company line from the tarrat dot com studios here
in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio tyrack dot Com. We'll
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazerd protection. You know over ten thousand recommended

(39:39):
Football is off and running the greatest reality show. You
can script everything but the ending. We do not have
royalty in this country. Our athletes and our entertainers and
sometimes our coaches, they are royalty as well. Yep, tonight
we're gonna be talking about Dion and we call it
the Midnight Hour eight seven seven nine nine six six
(40:00):
three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
Can't wait to hear from you, folks. As usual, We've
got our cadre of callers lining up, thoughtful, interesting. Is
Dion good for college football or bad for college football?
And are you rooting for him? We're against him? And
while we're on the subject, what the hell who do
(40:21):
you root against? You can come clean. Let's start off.
My man Jim in Massachusetts, the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Jim,
always start things off, look forward to it. What do
you got for us tonight?
Speaker 13 (40:34):
I love beyond the start with Bernie, and I think
he's good for college football. If he wasn't, he wouldn't
have a job. I mean, look at all the money
in the in the notoriety he brought into Colorado when
Colorado was really nothing before that, and everybody expects him
to win, win, win, win, when you know building a program.
I don't think he's all about that, but there's a
(40:56):
lot of college coaches that can't build programs. So you know,
you got to live the way the way it goes.
And I'll take Colorado against Nebraska. Seeing how you're jumping
all over Nebraska, Okay, I think I think I.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Love it, Jim. I. And again as I stand alone,
as I've said many times, the most boring conversations are
when people agree, I can know two thoughts concurrently, Jim.
I love Dion as well. I always have, but in
this patriarchal position that he's in right now, and people
expected him to win last year, they don't expect him
to win this year. And when you look at how
(41:30):
he's handled the things away from the field, I think,
one on one in practice, and I bet he's a
very good coach. I believe that. But you're not only
a head coach in college football. You're a surrogate father,
and you're a media member, and you're all these hats.
I just don't think he's wearn'ting all of them. Well,
that that's why I put that out there. I think
he's embarrassed himself a little bit. But your points are
(41:52):
duly noted. Excellent points to that end, Jim, you love Deon,
Your root for him, you believe they win. Is there
anybody against.
Speaker 13 (42:01):
Oh yeah, I'll root against the Chiefs. I don't want
to see the Chiefs get there again. I'm not just
sick of this. I'm just sick of this. Every other show,
every other show on they show football. Then we got
to see Taylor Swift and we have to see all
this other stuff.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
You know.
Speaker 13 (42:18):
I just hate what happened to NFL football. They took
the kick off away and all this other stuff.
Speaker 14 (42:23):
You know.
Speaker 15 (42:24):
I'm old school.
Speaker 13 (42:25):
I rather get back to where the quarterbacks call the
game themselves. There's no MIC's, you know, in the helmets
they're saying how great? You know all it is? Nowadays
all they care about is fantasy football and all that
in the gambling. I mean, sooner or later they're going
not going to have the games on regular TV. What's
going to happen? You have to pay to see the
game I think that's when it's really going to crash
(42:46):
and fall.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Jim, a great call is always so interesting on the record,
Jim roots for Dion, the roots against Kansas City. Well,
that ought to make for a nice segue to our
next caller, Steve in Kansas City. Steve, first, let's talk.
I'm good or bad for college football? Is a good
former against him?
Speaker 16 (43:03):
Well?
Speaker 12 (43:03):
I think Dion isn't good for college football.
Speaker 16 (43:06):
He's great for college football.
Speaker 17 (43:08):
Love it.
Speaker 13 (43:08):
Okay, let's just do it that way.
Speaker 18 (43:12):
And to hear a caller from Massachusetts complain about the
Chiefs being on every toil that is literally heaven.
Speaker 12 (43:19):
That is literally heaven on earth.
Speaker 18 (43:22):
After all the crap we had to go through with
Tom Brady and Belichick, I hope we run about six
or seven.
Speaker 19 (43:28):
Super Bowls in a row so they really get they
really get sick of us. But listen, I hate to
say it, but you know, uh, the people I root
against for the Harballs, Now, I just I The thing is,
Dion is authentically himself. Whether you like it or not,
it's going to be He's going to give you his
(43:51):
honest opinion. And I watched these I watched these Baltimore
Ragons and and uh and the other horrible out there
in Los Angeles, and they're total Charlatan's. I should love
the Harballs, I should love everything that they're about. And
they've just trashed their their reputations and I don't think
(44:13):
there's any way you can get there. They come off
as sort of crazy, they come off as sort of.
Speaker 17 (44:18):
Touched in the head, and I and we should love them.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Jim primarily, I've been around Jim. He's eccentric. You're not wrong,
You're not You're not far off in anything you said.
He's really just more eccentric. If you this guy, dude, man,
go ahead, Steve Well, I just.
Speaker 12 (44:38):
I'm just there's a common there's a common threat here.
When Dion Sanders walks into Arrowhead Stadium in two months
to play, to play our local team, how many fans
do you think are going to be at Arrowhead seventy
five eighty five thousand, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
I'm not sure it was it was that way last year.
It's Stephen a great call man. Always look forward to
your calls. I want to make sure I get to everybody,
but points duly noted, and I'm very refreshing for me.
To hear that our first two callers love Dion and
the Root and for Dion, I'm good with that. I'm
good with that. I'm posing the question of myself because
(45:18):
I can hold two thoughts concurrently. I would just say this,
the North Dakota State game was not sold out, and
that was a home game. So if they stroll into
Kansas City in a few weeks, you know, and they're
one and five or whatever the record would be as
it were, I'm not so sure. You know, we have
a sitting here in Vegas. A lot of times, what
gets a standing ovation today gets it on next month.
(45:41):
We got to see what happens eventually. Eventually this bling
has get backed up with real action. Andre also from
the Great Commonwealth of Massachusetts. What are your thoughts tonight,
my man?
Speaker 15 (45:54):
How you doing, Bernie?
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Thanks for good to hear from you.
Speaker 12 (45:58):
Listen.
Speaker 20 (45:58):
I root for for Colorado based on my appreciation a
lot of respect for Travis Hunter. I think he's a
stand up guy. You know, just learned about if he's
a hard worker, he's a grinder. He kind of trust
the process, stays out of the nonsense and the fullistness
also should Doure hope that he's going to be a
high draft pick, but Deon standers overall. As you noted
(46:19):
earlier in the show, this is a game where you know,
I'm hoping that Colorado could be competitive, but it might
be similar to the Oregon game last year when the
Brash just comes out and overwhelms them based on some
of the deficiencies that they have that that I'm not
necessarily confident in. So Deon good for college football.
Speaker 17 (46:38):
I want to root for Dion.
Speaker 20 (46:40):
I'm hoping against hope, but I think tomorrow the game
is going to really show what's actually there. We're going
to get beyond the hype and see like what type
of actual football team? And going into I just feel
like they've decided underdogs against the brask never mind that
it's a rivalry game. Just can this offensive line product
to door Sanders? And then will their defense be able
to up anybody because they're their lines are No, they won't.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
And I got to tell you it's a throwback to
a great of a past era which was a great
rivalry game. Remember Colorado stuffed them last year. I think
it was thirty six fourteen, So I know Nebraska is
lying in wait. Do you root against anybody. Andre. It
is part of the to put a cap around the discussion.
There is anybody root against there is.
Speaker 17 (47:24):
Somebody I root against it.
Speaker 20 (47:25):
And you started the show with him, you know, Dabo Sweeney,
who makes over ten million dollars a year, you know,
and these coaches that have these contracts where they have
to be the highest paid or the top highest paid
millions and millions of dollars. And then now you know
there's a rising tie to lift all boats for the
players can can finally generate income from a billion dollar industry.
(47:48):
And these guys are hook line and sinker against it,
and they're using all these moral arguments in terms of
why this is somehow wrong. So Dabo Sweeney specifically, you know,
you take this hardline stance abouts when you're making money
handle or fit highest paid employee in South Carolina probably,
and then now we're seeing what the results of that.
You don't want to change at the time, and you're
(48:09):
talking all this foolishness, but you get left behind, and
you're probably gonna blame somebody else for it, you know,
rather than taking a look in the mayor. So Dabo
either come come to grips with the fact that it's
a business, you know, or audios, maybe they bring another coach.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
Thanks taking the call as always, Andre a great call. Yeah,
the hypocrisy is bothersome. And you know, the dork factor
that Dabbosweeney wears on his chest was okay when he
was winning, I mean, the legacy security. He's done some
great things at Clemson, but he's sinking like a rock
(48:43):
and the dark factor is now no longer a term
of endearment. And squeeze one more in here a rich
in Texas joints this rich what do you got for
us tonight?
Speaker 17 (48:52):
Good even thanks for having me on.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Sure?
Speaker 21 (48:56):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 22 (48:58):
College, I think so as long as he's bringing more
eyes game. But you know, as with last year, you
know that was really only for about about four or
five games.
Speaker 17 (49:09):
And then they kind of fell off the lift.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Yes, I think it's the.
Speaker 22 (49:13):
Same way this year, you know, and they barely beuh
you know North Dakota State, you know, and they're North
Dakota States will flops in the programs. But the question
is is he did he get to be able to
pull off a couple of upsets like he did last year?
And if not, and to me, you know, he totally
has gone away from recruiting high school and and it's
(49:34):
all portal. And you said something interesting earlier that, hey,
Chudure is just getting killed out there is the biggest
the biggest place that Dean has failed is a recruiting
a lineman that can protect his quarterback. And so I
think that's the problem, and uh, you know, that's that's
where I stay with Leon. Unfortunately, you know, because of
(49:57):
his arrogance, I find myself rooting against them. But there's
no design that he brings eyes.
Speaker 17 (50:01):
To the college game.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
Yeah, fair enough, Rich, anybody else you root against the
world of sports.
Speaker 22 (50:08):
I rooted against the University of Michigan.
Speaker 12 (50:11):
My favorite teams are.
Speaker 22 (50:14):
Michigan State and the team playing Michigan. And I'm actually
headed to the U team Michigan game. So uh just
always hated Michigan, just as I grew up in the
same thing. And then the Boots Texas once I got
out of college, That's where I've headed.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
And hey, we have a have a good time. Man,
You're gonna see some real celebrities there. Tomorrow You'll see
h Derek Jeter and then Matthew McConaughey and Will Ferrell
and uh, all right, Rich, hold up a sign. We'll
say hello, good, good call Rich. Don't be a stranger,
my man. We are to continue have fun. By the way,
Tiger Man in Utah listener to the show. Tweeter says,
(50:52):
Dion brings out the super casual fans. He sucks for
my sport. I only hope he loses every single game,
My man, tell us how you really feel. That's all
all good. I'll like people that are quif kike. You
know all those people in life. You say you have
a hard time makeup your mind. Well, yes and no no.
That's one of the great things about our callers, man,
all of them so far, Jim, Andre, Steve, No Rich,
(51:14):
and coming up, we're gonna have Poppy and JD and
Alaska and Robin, Orlando and Lynn and Colorado. We're getting
to all of you, so just hang tight. I want
to hear what you've got to say about Dion Sanders.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
All right back on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
Coming you Lie from the tarat dot com Studios. Another rockous,
outstanding midnight hour. The callers have been terrific. We go
back out to the phone lines. We're joined by JD
m Alaska. Thanks for joining us tonight. You might be
my first caller from Alaska. Have you called before, JD? No,
(52:30):
I haven't welcome in.
Speaker 17 (52:32):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 9 (52:33):
I you know, I think Dion Sanders is absolutely great
for football. Football is show business and I do the
best people for the sport. Have been people who've been showman.
You look at Leta l. Zado, Joe Namath, uh John
Madden even.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Okay, hold onto, I love your vibe. I love your vibeato. Okay,
look at those four names. What they all have in common?
They won. See here's the thing, and this is why
I like this discussion. Stand on the line JD because
he is good, because he's put butts in seats. The
problem is now his decorum with the media is decorum
(53:12):
with players coming in and out. You're starting to see
the backlash. That's the part that's bothers him. Are you
building anything foundational with that program? Or is it just
all flash and dash and bling. That's why on balance
I asked the question, continue the game is irrelevant.
Speaker 9 (53:28):
I think Joe Namas finally learned that somewhere along the way.
He was always arguing with the owner's wife that well,
it's not show business, it's football. And here's why he
kept saying that from the Jets kept telling him, Joe,
it's show business, and that's really what it's about. You're
putting people behind television sets and you've got people listening
(53:50):
and watching him coming to the games. It's all about
show business, and he's terrific. They call him Prime Time
for a reason. I think he's terrific. I think he's
great for the game. Howard Cosell, Don Meredith. They were
showmen and they were great, and they made Monday Night football,
which in a way sealed the deal for football becoming
(54:12):
the number one sport.
Speaker 2 (54:14):
This is outstanding call. I mean, I clearly you and
I are on the same page. I've said it a
thousand times. We don't have royalty in this country. Our
athletes and entertainers are a royalty. Is there anybody you
do root against?
Speaker 17 (54:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (54:27):
I root against the Cowboys. You know, if Jerry Jones
had his way, it would be like baseball, only the
rich get richer and the poor get poor, and we
wouldn't be revenue sharing, and we wouldn't be doing the
things that make football great. And I never liked the
previous owner either.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
I forgot his name, gill Or Merchison. Clinton Merchison was
the original owner or gil Brand. Oh look, here's the deal. Okay.
And by the way, anything else that would let you
wrap up their call it great chops. I mean, we
wanted to let.
Speaker 9 (55:00):
People know that the first Super Bowl game, and this
is interesting, was actually called the NFL AFL Playoff Game.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
The first three were called that. They didn't do the
super Bowl on the tickets still super Bowl four, it's
called the AFL NFL Championship Game played at the coliseum
in front of sixty thousand empty seats. Continue on.
Speaker 9 (55:20):
Yes, there were plenty of empty seats. And what they
don't tell you is they were giving them away.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
That's right.
Speaker 9 (55:25):
The charity tickets were like two dollars, that's great, and
they were giving them away. Nobody really was that interested
in the game, and the NFL was afraid to call
it a championship game because they were horrified to the
idea what if we lose? They wanted to call it,
and if you listen to those old tapes, they go,
this NFL AFL Playoff Game is brought to you by
(55:49):
and they refused to call it that for years. Ironically,
they now act like they own it. It was really
the fans that took on the name simply because I
guess Hunts came in with the super Bowl, was looking
for his Super Bowl, and after he made the deal
and hung up the phone, he said, what will we
call it? And apparently his son walked in the room
(56:10):
and said, Dad, have you seen my super Bowl? And
that popped into his head. But he tried calling at that,
but they thought it was too funky and too hyped
up into showmanship, you know. They didn't want to be
too showy. They were afraid what if we lose one
of these games? And of course names came along and
eventually they did.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Uh, do me a favor. We need to hear from
you again, Jad, A lot of good stuff. There are
a lot of texture in that call, a lot of
well roundedness, and I think he used it to make
your larger point with is what are we betching about here?
Speaker 13 (56:41):
Man?
Speaker 2 (56:41):
This is the entertainment business, show business, great stuff. Appreciate you,
Poppy san Diego. How are you, Poppy.
Speaker 21 (56:48):
Eh Verne, exciting about right now?
Speaker 9 (56:52):
You know?
Speaker 21 (56:53):
Saturday night? Beautiful night right here? And look, I really
want to talk about Dion. When I was younger and
a kid, I loved the standards as a player with
that Atlanta with Atlanta Falcons, not talk Atlanta Falcons. You know,
drafted them right right, And I'm like, wow, I want
to look up to him. I love him as a player, Uh,
you know, growing up. I would want to analyze them,
(57:15):
you know, his dancing and.
Speaker 20 (57:17):
Stuff like that.
Speaker 21 (57:18):
But like, you know, as you get older as a coach,
you know, I like that. Uh you know it goes
back in the media and stuff like that. But I
didn't like that e band, that one guy from the media.
If you're gonna talk Mac Deion, let the other guys
talk too. So I'm like, I really don't like what
he's doing the program.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
So, but are you rooting for him, Poppy, You're rooting
for m am.
Speaker 21 (57:38):
I rooting for Dion. Yes, I'm rooting for him as
a coaches succeed Yes, but I really don't like all
the other stuff that.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
So it's a clean slate so far, not a single
person is rooting against him, and they was just fine
with me. Is there anybody in sports? Uh? I bet
I can guess too. But is there anybody in sports, Poppy,
that you root against?
Speaker 21 (57:58):
Well, yeah, there's someone that did rooting against. But look,
with what I'm trying to say with Dion, what I'm
really liking about it, I think is not conspirator in
the universe. I'm really liking the Falcames. I'm gonna give
you the spread guys my next three and a half
over the Steelers. I'm liking that for a reason, just
until this is out. But the person that I don't
like on on football or anything, it could be basketball basketball.
(58:21):
I hate Lebron James.
Speaker 17 (58:23):
I really hate Lebron James.
Speaker 23 (58:24):
You know why, because that was.
Speaker 21 (58:25):
Not fair what he said to his son.
Speaker 17 (58:27):
Hey, I don't want you to.
Speaker 24 (58:28):
Call me dad.
Speaker 12 (58:29):
No, forget about your Lebron.
Speaker 25 (58:32):
I'm gonna call you daddy.
Speaker 21 (58:33):
Whenever I see you Lebron James on the street, I'm
gonna say.
Speaker 12 (58:36):
Hey, daddy.
Speaker 21 (58:37):
As as a matter of fact, if I see anyone
with the Lebron James, Jersey Bernie, I'm gonna say hey daddy,
Hey daddy.
Speaker 15 (58:43):
They're not gonna know what.
Speaker 21 (58:44):
They're gonna be like what I'm like, Yeah, you're my daddy,
I'm Bronnie James.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
All right. Poppy, we always appreciate Poppy one of our
regulars on Friday Night, and he likes the Falcons mins
three and a half and yeah, we saw that. I
would just say this about that Lakers Lebron Brownie. Let
the awkwardness begin. Uh, Rob in Orlando, you're up next?
What do you got for us? Tonight.
Speaker 17 (59:10):
Hey, good morning, Bernie Man.
Speaker 8 (59:12):
Good to hear from him again. Listen to uh, Dion Sanders.
I'm a ninety one gra out of Florida State, so obviously,
oh wow, yeah a player. Jane Baby, well we're gonna say,
oh yeah, me and Geane absolutely total leather man, total
leather Here's the thing with Dion, I do root against him.
Speaker 13 (59:35):
At the end of the day.
Speaker 8 (59:37):
He was so disrespectful to his players, current players of
Colorado when first guy he is a circus promoter. I'm
glad that Florida State never made the move to hire
him as head coach because you know what, he's not
a program builder, He's a program destroyer. It will be
there for a couple of years. Yes, they will get
(59:58):
a ton of notoriety.
Speaker 17 (59:59):
And may that's good enough.
Speaker 8 (01:00:01):
But when he leaves, he's going to leave the program
in shambles.
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
And that's t.
Speaker 9 (01:00:07):
Rob.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
That's actually. Look. Whether people will want to hear that
or not, whether they agree with that or not, it's
a pretty thoughtful insight on your part. And as a
graduate of Florida State in ninety one, you've been there
and you've seen the act up close and personal. You
remember what Dion said when Atlanta drafted him, he said,
if if Detroit went a drafted me, that I had
to put me on layaway because it could have afforded me.
(01:00:29):
That was a twenty two year old Dion, So this
has always been in his DNA. Hey, good to hear
from me. That's just an outstanding call. Rob the first
Dion detractor. But look at the reasons he gave. And
as this plays out, you can you assure me that
Rob is going to be wrong what this program might
(01:00:51):
look like at the end of the year. And that's
the other side of the coin. It's all fun and
game stil someone loses an eye, right, you have the party,
your trashy apartment. Who's cleaning it up up the next day?
But man, it was fun while it was going on,
and we're all here for it, right, we are getting
to all of you. Nobody go away, then, Manuel, Mark Griffin,
Tony hang right there. Want to hear what you gotta say,
(01:01:12):
But first we got to hear with the chef what
he's got to say with the latest update.
Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
Yeah, we did have some college football on a Friday night.
It was a great matchup on the shores of Lake
Michigan Duke and Northwestern and this one went to double
overtime and the Blue Devils win in twenty six to
twenty b Yu and SMU. It's eighteen fifteen win for
the Cougars and in Indiana when they blow out win
against Western Illinois seventy seven to three. But much of
(01:01:38):
the country's eyes down on Brazil as it was Friday
night lights action for the NFL Eagles and Packers. Saquon
Barkley a huge game for Philadelphia.
Speaker 26 (01:01:50):
On the first down, this.
Speaker 10 (01:01:51):
Time, I goes and right up the bottle for a touchdown.
Th saipe one Barkley and suck a touchdown of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:02:00):
All over ground Eagles Radio Network with the call sakuon
three touchdowns. That was the second of three that he
had on the day, two of them coming on the ground.
He also at one hundred and nine rushing yards. Jayden
Reid leading the way for the Packers four catches, one
hundred and thirty eight yards and a touchdown. But for
the Packers, the loss happened and it got even worse
(01:02:21):
six seconds to go as they were trying to maybe
make a last comeback down the field for maybe a
hail Mary attempt. Jordan Love, suffering an apparent lower left
leg injury, had to be carted off of the field,
and Matt Lafleur was asked about it about his status
love status going forward, and he said, quote, I don't know,
and Love did not address the media either after the game.
(01:02:42):
Major League Baseball, the Pennant races taking shape. We're in
the final stretch of the regular season. That wildcard race
in the National League really tight, right now? What's a
tie between the Mets and the Braves, both teams getting
the victory. On Friday, the Braves do beat the Blue
Jays three to one, Mets over the Reds in extra
innings six to four. In the American League Central, the
(01:03:07):
Cleveland Guardians trying to pull away, and on a Friday
they do beat the Dodgers three to one, and it
was a division matchup between the Royals and Twins. It's
Kansas City blanking Minnesota five. Nothing so in that Al
Central it is Cleveland leading Kansas City by four and
a half and Minnesota by five. And for the Dodgers,
(01:03:27):
they got the loss. And they got some bad news
today on the injury front. Not only have they lost
another starting pitcher Gavin Stone was the only pitcher they
had this season who did not miss a start in
the rotation, but he is now on the injured list
with right shoulder inflammation. He's the eighth starting pitcher that
the Dodgers currently have on the IL, and it gets
worse for the Dodgers as ti Oscar Hernandez. He's been
(01:03:48):
a revelation for Los Angeles this year, a free agent pickup,
and he is now heading to the injured list. According
to Dave Roberts, he was hitting the foot by a
pitch in ten US Open men's action. Jennick Sonnaire advanced
to the final of the US Open in men's singles.
He got a straight sets win against twenty fifth seeded
(01:04:08):
Jack draper Man. Sinner's gonna face Taylor Fritz the American
he defeated Francis Tfo in five sets. And some injury
news updates for the NFL this weekend. Russell Wilson is
officially listed as questionably. He tweaked his hamstring on Thursday,
and he has listed as questionable strained actually strained calf muscles. Actually,
(01:04:29):
he's been reported as having and Jamar Chase questionable as
he had been holding out, and we'll see if he'll
be on the field for New England as he just
recently returned to the team. And t Higgins though doubtful.
He has a hamstring injury and has been listed as
doubtful for their game against New England. And Christian McCaffrey
was limited in practice again he's been dealing with a
(01:04:53):
calf issue. Back to you, Bernie, All.
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Right, thanks, Cheff. Go back out to the phones, Wake
the kids, Alert the neighbors, Grandpa, put on pants. It's
our guy, Manuel in Guardina. What's up, budd, got your
radio on, big fella, say what. Let's let's put uh,
let's put him back on hold. Man, Well, let's go
(01:05:16):
to Lynn in Colorado. Lynn, I'm hoping to hear from
somebody in Colorado tonight because that's where Dion is. Good morning, Barney,
Good morning.
Speaker 15 (01:05:25):
I just wanted I just wanted to say, Uh, being
at the epicenter of all of this, Dion has really
uh lowered the integrity level of the university. I don't
root for Dion the things that have gone on with
his sons.
Speaker 8 (01:05:41):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:05:41):
He's got a son that drives a Rolls Royce on
campus and was booted the other day by the campus
police because he just parks at anywhere he wants to.
Speaker 9 (01:05:52):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:05:54):
The settlement with the uh, the settlement with the Shiloh
and the other the eleven million dollars settle. But this
is getting old here. The of the alumni are starting
to raise their eyebrows.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Are you with the university all in? Just I'm curious?
Continue on you are your points pretty well? Go ahead?
Speaker 15 (01:06:17):
No, it's just that, Uh, there's just not it's a
turnover situation we have. He's not building anything here. The
students have supported him the first year, it's not quite
so strong the second year.
Speaker 8 (01:06:32):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:06:33):
There's a lot of question marks that are arising right
now at this point, and it really doesn't seem like
Dion's really doing much to help himself. Is running his
mouth like he does.
Speaker 24 (01:06:43):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:06:43):
The the news, the news here in Colorado is being
shut out by Dion because he doesn't want to talk
to CBS because they said something about his sons that he.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
That he didn't work right, right, we talked at least.
Speaker 15 (01:06:57):
Yeah, this stuff just goes on and on burn. I mean,
we've got to hit the student I mean, he's making
over six million dollars in mil money up here and
driving around Elon Musk picked up as well as the
rolls Royce. I mean, this stuff is just ridiculous as.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
It goes on and on and on, so I want
to get to all the then that's just outstanding inside information,
as you so eloquently put. You are there in the epicenter.
So great to get your opinion on this. And we
do this every Friday night, So don't don't be a stranger.
An excellent call man, weel you are up, my friend, Sad.
Speaker 22 (01:07:35):
It's action came in the chain reaction.
Speaker 25 (01:07:39):
Bernie Brado, the man, the Midt hey man, beautiful Friday night,
beautiful first week of the NFL. What a game yesterday
and you you harped on it, right man. If that's
the best that Baltimore has for Ksey and Baltimore had
better hope that somebody else helps him take out the
(01:08:02):
trash because in case, he looks like a chug nut.
But onto uh Dion Sanders. I root for the guy
because you know he is good for college football. I mean,
let's be honest, He's brought a lot of eyes, kind
of like the Caitlin Clark effects, a lot of people
don't like it, but he's brought a lot more eyeballs
(01:08:22):
and uh, you know a man he he has.
Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
But if he doesn't win, if he doesn't win, uh
you know, it's it's it e genders a different discussion
continue on.
Speaker 25 (01:08:34):
Yeah, well, well that's the thing, Bernie. I mean, I
don't think he's gonna win. You know, new Heizel couldn't
win Barnett Barren. He could win, you know, and Deon
is not half the coach these guys are. He's a
lot of flash. You know, you got to give him credit.
He's made a lot out of what he's got, you know,
(01:08:55):
basically baffling with b X if.
Speaker 27 (01:08:57):
You have me.
Speaker 25 (01:08:58):
But yeah, team, as far as the team, I love
to hate.
Speaker 15 (01:09:04):
You know, there's one and one only.
Speaker 17 (01:09:06):
Those pukes in Houston and call the.
Speaker 25 (01:09:12):
Ass one one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand
holes or strolls, whatever you want to call him.
Speaker 22 (01:09:18):
I hate those facts, those.
Speaker 21 (01:09:21):
Cheaping ken Rod in Hell love you, Bernie, right back
at you.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Thanks man, Well, I want to get to all these folks.
Thanks so thanks again, buddy, Marco Los Angeles, thanks for
hanging on. You're up next.
Speaker 11 (01:09:33):
Hello, Bernie, how are you doing well, my friend. I'm
very glad to hear that. I was going to say
that Dion is great for Generation X.
Speaker 17 (01:09:43):
You see him coaching and remind you of him.
Speaker 11 (01:09:47):
Back in college, him back in baseball, him back in
the NFL.
Speaker 15 (01:09:51):
The only person that I would love to see.
Speaker 11 (01:09:53):
As his offensive coordinator is the other guy, Bo Jackson.
That would make one heck of a show. Bo Dion
coaching Colorado.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Boy, that's coming in from left field, my friend, I
didn't see that coming. Is there anybody you groot against
in the world of sports?
Speaker 11 (01:10:12):
Definitely? I mean I grew up in New Jersey and
I live in Los Angeles now, and the Dodgers are
one A and the Mets are one B. So I
got to ate the Braves and I got to hate
the San Diego Padres.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
All right, thanks for checking in, Mark. I want to
get to all these folks. Appreciate you. Bud Griffin and
San Diego joined us. Dude the ning. What are your
thoughts tonight?
Speaker 24 (01:10:36):
I went to.
Speaker 23 (01:10:38):
University of Colorado in two thousand, graduated in two thousand
and eight, and I must say, most beautiful campus ever.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Not sure if you've ever been there, but yeah, I
have absolutely been to Boulder.
Speaker 11 (01:10:49):
Yes, yes, lots different than it was last years.
Speaker 23 (01:10:54):
I wish I could have gone to a game Dion
war cleats when I.
Speaker 24 (01:10:58):
Was in y middle school.
Speaker 23 (01:11:01):
But I do understand everybody's take on, Like I think
it's a whole play for him to get his kids out.
I keep pay he's out another season, He's sold fifty
thousand sunglasses, whatever it is. He's done a lot of
things really quickly, and it's just amazing to see. Like Nebraska,
Colorado was nothing back in the day. So now you know,
(01:11:22):
I'm born and raised San Diego.
Speaker 13 (01:11:24):
All I got is the Padres.
Speaker 23 (01:11:27):
I hate ten Spanos, hate the Chargers.
Speaker 13 (01:11:30):
So it's basically it's kind of like I got those
two things going on. That's thes basketball of course too.
Speaker 23 (01:11:36):
But you know, I think Beion's doing a decent job,
but he definitely can be kind of a crook and
we'll see what happens with that, all.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Right, But appreciate you checking in. I'm going to get
to all these folks. Thanks so much for hanging on line.
Speaker 8 (01:11:51):
We have.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Rick from Colorado up next. Rick, what have you got
for us?
Speaker 17 (01:11:58):
Hey, Bonnie?
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
How he's doing good? Thank you good?
Speaker 17 (01:12:03):
I think what Dean's doing in Colado is good. The
problem is is the people in Caladda should have known
what they were getting and don't complain about it because
he's changed the whole program to where it is now.
Look how much money he's made.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Form no doubt that's undeniable.
Speaker 17 (01:12:22):
The three hugging electric car driving people up in Cottaladda
lived in Condlado since sixty three. And there's a separation
of who we are, who we ate, and who we
won't want to be. Now who you want to be?
I hadn't seen that stadium, that Bowl since Cordell Stewart days, yep.
And now they're complaining about it and all. And you know,
(01:12:45):
a friend of mine went to the game, he last
the first game of the year. He says, you could
tell all the people that love Coddlado and beyond and
all that. And he said, you can see all the
people sitting in the stadiums with their arms from oh
my god, the pearl flutchers and all that. Shut up.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
That's what you get, the apocrisy.
Speaker 17 (01:13:06):
What you were, jinny, and now you got it. Now
you're going to start playing about it. But if they
loves to Nebraska, and have a bad season this year.
You better watch out. But Hey, don't fire him. He'll
still get paid.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Hey, great call, honesty and candor appreciated. All right, no
one's getting shut out. We're gonna have to move quickly.
Coming up, we'll have Tony in Miami. We have GD
in Oakland, Dug in San Diego, Western Colorado. Sit tight.
We want to get to all you keep it locked
and listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, back on the Bernie Frattle Show as we
wrap up the midnight hour. I want to get to
(01:13:41):
these callers. We go out to the phone lines. Tony
and Miami joins us. Tony, thanks for having on. How
you doing, Bud?
Speaker 24 (01:13:48):
Hey with Bernie real quick. Deon Sanders worked when he
was electric in the nineties and to him and Barry Sanders,
never saw anyone more electric touching the football. Come close
to it includes Lamar Jackson. There was a speed and
a quickness to him. It only for Beon. It only
(01:14:10):
worked as a player. Though this coach is a lot
of similar to love Lebron James. A lot of hot
air and they display it differently, but it's a lot
of gas going nowhere, and it doesn't really work in
my opinion. I think they both pushed their kids and
that's great and everything. I just think it's like you said,
(01:14:34):
when Lebron leaves the Lakers that they did nothing and
happen nothing. When he leaves Colorado, it's going to be
in shambles. Have a quick question. You're meant to answer
it now. But he says, I if you went to Detroit,
they can never afford him. My thing is he only
won just like Lebron as being a mercenary, bouncing from
(01:14:56):
stacked teams, the stacked teams. Do you believe he would
have ever won it anything in either Detroit or if
he stayed in Atlanta during this time and you know he.
Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Was don't no, I'll just tell right now. He was
a defensive back, he was a great acquisition in San Francisco,
he was a great acquisition in Dallas. Clearly part of
those teams.
Speaker 17 (01:15:17):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
But no, if he just stayed in Atlanta's whole career,
they never would have won. And his impact, that doesn't
diminish his impact. And I got a real soft spot
for Martin Deancer. I think he's a really good communicator, right,
and he played major league baseball. Okay, I played minor
league baseball. Don't know what it takes man for him
to do what he did. What's happening now, though, is
he's a patriarch at the university as a front man,
and ironically that charisma's going out the window because he's
(01:15:41):
misusing it. Thanks so much, Good call Tony as always,
g D in Oakland. You're up next, Bernie. Yes, sir,
this is Gary.
Speaker 27 (01:15:49):
I appreciate you taking my call. Well, appreciate you calling man,
and I also appreciate your honesty and maturity here in
this new sports landscape gambling and social media. But in
reference to Dion, you have to look at his employer.
Speaker 9 (01:16:07):
When he got.
Speaker 27 (01:16:08):
Hired by the Colorado Colorado.
Speaker 17 (01:16:10):
Asked him for something.
Speaker 27 (01:16:11):
They asking, probably to change that whole face of their
program and Dion. When Dion leaves there, it's gonna be
much easier for them to get another big time coach.
And it's gonna those stands are gonna be full for
another four or five years, even if they lose every game.
Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Okay, fair enough, that may well happen.
Speaker 17 (01:16:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
And when you look across the broad base of one
hundred and forty Division one programs. The larger question was,
there's no question he's delivered. Okay, they're printing money. I
got to get to some other callers. Any other final thoughts, Gary,
And the other.
Speaker 27 (01:16:43):
Thing is about the EON's kind of unique in too
many ways. Meaning one, there's no Hall of Fame athletes
that are like coaching college teams.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
True.
Speaker 27 (01:16:53):
And number two, when it comes to the system, Deon
knows the system and has worked the system. He's known
about it and he's worked it longer than anyone.
Speaker 17 (01:17:01):
When Dion went to college, you're a baseball player.
Speaker 27 (01:17:05):
Dion was making sixty thousand dollars a year from the
Yankees when.
Speaker 17 (01:17:08):
He was in college.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
You know your history, my friend. He actually copyrighted prime
Time Prime He copyrighted Primetime.
Speaker 27 (01:17:17):
Eric Dickerson had to take a cut and taine to
go to the Rams. Tody Smith, Bubba Smith's younger brother
in the late seventies, was on the Great Defense at USC.
He knew he was driving around la and a Rolls Royce.
So the honesty of the sports landscape that's kind of
just like changed. And Dion is a unique individual. Wherever
(01:17:39):
he is, wherever he's going to be, in life, and
we got to just roll with it. And as far
as like him and his son, that's a unique thing.
And I do relate it to Lebron and his son
because what I'm really afraid of is.
Speaker 9 (01:17:55):
Watching the Laker game.
Speaker 27 (01:17:57):
And another NBA player body slam Lebron's son to the
ground and the referee doesn't call a foul.
Speaker 17 (01:18:04):
What's going, Harry?
Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
I'm up against it and I want to hear from
you again. I appreciate man. I wish you had call
earlier in the ad. I got to get to this
one last call.
Speaker 14 (01:18:11):
Gary.
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
I hate to cut you short. Thanks so much, Doug.
We got short time. It's just the way it worked out.
Bring us home, Doug. Doug in San Diego.
Speaker 16 (01:18:20):
Berry, love your show, buddy, Really burn baby bird. Okay,
I think that Dion is wonderful for college football. He's
energized it. I mean last year when he I was
quite a splash callge Dog.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Games, Doug. I didn't manage the clock properly. I'm going
to ask a favor, don't. I'm gonna have to cut
it short, but at one twenty am, if you want
to call back, I promise you I will take your call.
My producer will let me know if you've called back.
I want to give you time, and same with Gary. Gary,
I didn't let you finish. I'll break the rules. But
coming up, we got a segment. If you like movies
and you're like football, you're gonna love this. Keep it
(01:18:59):
locked to Bernie frattles.
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
Yeah that's right. You heard the man. The Bernie Frawder
showcaps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We
are comingy line from the tire dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. Tyrec dot com. We'll help you get there.
Unmatched selection, fast free shipping for your road, anster protection,

way tied buying should be quick programming. Note Gary in
(01:19:25):
Oakland and Doug and San Diego are two final callers.
I wish i'd managed to cock a little better. I'm
going to open the phone lines for you if you
guys can call back at one twenty am. I don't
want to cut you short. You were very interesting callers,
as was Everyboday night. But I cut you too short.
I don't like that, So I hope you're listening, and
I hope you can check back in and you're always
(01:19:46):
welcome every Friday night. But every Friday night now at
one am Pacific, four a m. Eastern, we have a
new segment and if you like movies, you're gonna love it.
We call it Breeze threes.
Speaker 6 (01:20:00):
Not one, not two, but three.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
It's entertainment. It's good.
Speaker 6 (01:20:09):
It's breeze three.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Mark ahead. We've got Tonight's topic is football movies? Your
your favorite three football movies since it's of course football season.
Speaker 28 (01:20:20):
So my movies, well, I know the rule is three,
but I have five, but just you know, bear with me.
So my first movie is Any Given Sunday. That's Al
Pacino Jamie Fox. I think Lawrence Taylor was in it,
and Ken has it and Dennis Quaid was in it.
So that's my first football movie. And then my second
(01:20:43):
football movie it's Adam Sandler The water Boy.
Speaker 26 (01:20:46):
That's one of them Football the Devil, I mean, just
you know, just.
Speaker 28 (01:20:51):
A crazy movie, Adam Sandler stuff now. And then my
another movie is North Dallas forty. I think that's from
the seventies. Nick Noltan and mag Davis. Mac Davis was
a country singer singer, but he was great. And another
one that I thought of was The Last Boy Scout
with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans and Halle Berry was
(01:21:11):
in that too. Now my other ones, just you know,
note about football movies.
Speaker 26 (01:21:16):
I thought of The Longest Yard, which is another Adam
Sandler movie.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
So that was a remake. The Adam sandlermer was a remake.
Speaker 26 (01:21:25):
Right of the of the nineteen seventy four Burt Reynolds movie.
Speaker 6 (01:21:30):
So that's mine.
Speaker 28 (01:21:31):
At Any Given Sunday, The Water Boy North Dallas, forty,
Last Boy Scout, and The Longest Yard, those are my movies.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
All the choices no good. I saw them all. Bree
Who's next?
Speaker 29 (01:21:43):
Okay, so I'll go next. And so I actually also
had Any Given Sunday that was one of mine, and
the speech always life, life is like football, It's all
about a game of inches.
Speaker 18 (01:21:57):
Love that.
Speaker 29 (01:21:58):
I just thought that was an incredible acting performance for
like all three of them, and I think it really
just captured like what it's like in the locker room,
what it's like if like the coach and the owner,
if they're having like issues with each other, and how
that just like kind of can bleed into like play
calling or if they're not on the same page, and
how much stress and like drama that causes. So I
(01:22:19):
just I think that was just really incredible. I did
remember The Titans because I just think that's a classic, right,
and I think that also had a really great soundtrack
like number one and yeah, a top I think it's
like a top five Denzel movie. Honestly, the little girl
of the daughter of the other coach was like my idol.
I wanted to be her or have like a daughter
like her, Like she was just all into football. So
(01:22:41):
I thought she was insanely cool. And I thought it
just like had comedy, drama and like it like hit
at your heart strings, you know, especially like history around
that time, you know, I think.
Speaker 26 (01:22:51):
It was huge.
Speaker 29 (01:22:52):
And then my third was The Express, the Ernie Davis story.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
That's a wonderful Oh that's a wonderful movie tell story.
Speaker 29 (01:23:03):
Yeah, so I it was he was the first African
American to win a Heisman, and so Dennis Quaid actually,
you know, like recruited him and after Jim Brown. I yeah,
Jim Brown had left Syracuse and went into the NFL.
I'm thinking, if I remember correctly that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
You've got the correct and they both went to Cleveland.
Speaker 29 (01:23:22):
For yes, and so just his story and how he
you know, came into that program and he was and
just changed that whole program and changed kind of like
Dennis Quaid and how he was going to coach from
you know, years on later, and just Ernie Davis as
a person and just like the impact that he made
and he was such a positive guy. And to see
(01:23:43):
you know, when he when one of their first like
away games, of how people were treating you know, African
Americans at that time and how you know, it was
just historic and just it was a terrible time in
our history. But anyway, so yeah, so I those were
my three. The Express is one of my favorites. And
actually Chadwick Boseman, that was his first movie.
Speaker 6 (01:24:03):
He was Floyd Little.
Speaker 29 (01:24:06):
Yeah, so kind of like a random fact, but yeah,
those are my three and it's outstanding. And so I
wanted to do football and I'm sorry for how this
whole segment started, but because like, welcome back, Bernie, we
missed you last week, and it's the first week of football.
So that's why I was like, oh, let's talk about
football movies.
Speaker 2 (01:24:22):
These are very thoughtful movies. I got to tell you
I The Express didn't make my list, but it was
an amazing movie. I know there Ernie Davis story. And
for those who don't, he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns,
just like Jim Brown never played a day in the
NFL because he was struck with an ill list and
died way before it came. And he yes, this is
really a topic. This is so hard. You know, you
(01:24:43):
guys hit the good ones. He Express, remember the Titans.
The blind Side didn't make my list, but I loved it.
We Are Marshall didn't make my list, but I loved
it on any Sunday came close. I just it's like
picking your favorite noodlean and played a spaghetti We talked
the draft day, et cetera. So these are the the
three that made my list, and you guys might you
might be surprised by this, but I selected these based
(01:25:06):
on how much I truly enjoyed them, just genuinely enjoyed them,
like a little kid eating a piece of cake and
ice cream. I enjoyed them so much. I watched them twice,
and all for entirely different reasons. I'm gonna start with
the Longest Yard, because that was just pure rock is fun.
Burt Reynolds, Paul Crue, The Wrecking Crew, the Meat Machine
playing against the Guards, the Adam Sandler remaking O five
(01:25:29):
was funny, but it just didn't measure up. The quarterback
for the Guards team ed latter Captain Canawer. I had
a chance to golf with him in a charity fundraiser
back many years ago. It's no longer with us, but
just a few years back, and we talked about that
movie at length. But The Longest Yard is just pure entertainment,
and yes it came out forever ago, but I promise
(01:25:49):
you it holds up. Burt Reynolds at his absolute finals,
a little a lot of Ray Nichke Dick, but a
lot of really good cameo appearances are here's the two
They're gonna knock you over. I could not leave Rudy
off the list. It's the true story of Daniel Rudiger,
the Undersonis player that went to Notre Dame against all odds,
ends up making the team, finally sees the field in
(01:26:12):
his final game and actually sacks the quarterback. My good.
But Buddy Kenny and I would go to one Notre
Dame football game every year we don't do it anymore.
We'd see USC Michigan whatever. He was a season ticket holder,
and he was part of the cast or not the cast.
That's not fair. You know, when they filmed the Notre
Dame scene when Rudy is sacking the quarterback, he was
(01:26:34):
part of the crowd that day in the extras and
so look, you know, maybe it's a little sacking for
some people, but this is a young man, true story,
determined to overcome the odds. He lived here in Henderson,
Nevada up until recently. Daniel Rudiger, But Rudy and longest
jarred the third one. I'm gonna go way deep into
the cookie jar. Now. This movie came out in twenty
(01:26:58):
fifteen Christmas and it was very much under the radar.
It was a movie called Concussion with Will Smith who
plays doctor Bennett Wally who discovers the brain ish issues
in football. I know the NFL that really was not
real happy about when that movie came out. And this
(01:27:19):
individual who comes to the United States been in Amalu.
He's a forensic pathologist and he moves to Pennsylvania and
he ends up falling in love with one of the
faculty members he was so articulate, so articulate in terms
of his ability to explain the dangers of football and
how the human skull was never meant for this. It's
(01:27:41):
a phenomenal story. It's a it's if you have any
intellectual curiosity about this and how we got to this
point where the NFL will sued for a million billion dollars.
It's not just Will Smith. Albert Brooks was in it.
He was fantastic. He played Sarah Wect, the famous attorney
who who was part of the O. J. Simpson trial.
(01:28:03):
Alec Baldwin is in it.
Speaker 9 (01:28:06):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
Luke Wilson, Paul Reeser, Yes, you're right. David Morse he was.
He was the one who played Mike Webster, the true
story about the Pittsburgh Steelers center who basically lost his mind. Okay,
And when you've got NFL stars like Junior Sale committing suicide,
Dave Dowerson committing suicide, it was doctor Walloo who came
up and discovered the CTE and pointed out in brains,
(01:28:31):
it's exquisite filmmaking. It's intelligent filmmaking. Turn off your phone,
shut off the lights, don't pay attention. It's one of
Will Smith's best performances. And it's based on a true story.
And uh, look they had to actually persuade Roger Goodell
to present his findings before his player safety committee. That's
(01:28:52):
how important this doctor was. So those are my three.
Rudy longest yard concussion obviously very different, very disparate, but
I enjoyed them I mentally for different reasons, to the
point where I saw each one twice, any of the
final thoughts.
Speaker 29 (01:29:05):
Around the room, just going back to the longness yard.
So ed latter was also in Young Blood, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
the hockey movie. Yeah, our Youngblood like the one the yeah,
the hockey movie. Yeah, I love Yeah, it's one of them.
And Keanu Reeves one of my favorite movies of all time, honestly,
not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
Okay, we'll go to.
Speaker 6 (01:29:22):
A chef now, all right, So my three, I'm gonna
begin with Friday Night Lights because it was iconic, really
did a great job showing the passion and how intense
and how seriously take football in Texas. Uh And as
someone who watches the Rams every week on TV and
they fumble, I'm like, I forgot the player's name, but
the dad is always like hold on to the football.
(01:29:43):
That's me at the TV whenever I see the Rams fumble.
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
So well, you know what's great about that too? A
good one, Chef. Excellent one because it was based on
a besselling movie by bestselling book by a guy named HG.
Bissinger who I saw speak Billy. Bob Thornton was the
weird dad right in the movie. Yeah but that listen
that that was in Midland, Texas and continue on. That's
(01:30:06):
an excellent choice.
Speaker 6 (01:30:07):
Okay, So my second one will be The Longest Yard,
the Adam Sandler Chris Rock version. I thought it was
just so fun and yep, and I play beach flag
football every week, and whenever I get to be quarterback,
I just yell out Schoolyard bs on three one two
three break and so I love living that out every week.
And then my number one is Rudy. The story of
(01:30:31):
keeping your dream, keep working, don't give up, chase your dreams,
and whether you get as far as you want to
or not knowing you gave it all, I think is
something that's very important. Is something he really embodied. And
everyone cries during the jersey scene. Come on, now, how
can you not shed a tear? When after he works
so hard to not only one get into Notre Dame,
(01:30:52):
to make what they call the prep team, the practice squad,
and then after all the work he puts in, he
didn't even make the dress list. He wasn't gonna dress
for the last game, and having the captain come in
to Coach Dan Devine's office lay his jersey down and say, Coach,
I want Rudy to dress in my place. I mean,
how could he not have a dry eye? You know?
Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
You know what's interesting, Kevin good good, really good detail
on your part. I know that Eric Parsige Notre Dame
people lost their mind because apparently that's the one seed
that never was true. They kept true to the movie.
But that scene about laying the jerseys, the scene, I
think it gets to a lot of people. The actor
Charles Stutton, who plays the janitor, say kid, you know,
(01:31:37):
and then at the end when he's suiting up and
he does the slow clap you know, like a y. Yeah,
Charles S. Stutton shed a tear. I think it got
it was a movie, yeah, but he understood the gravity
continue on.
Speaker 6 (01:31:49):
So yeah, those are my three Rudy the Longest Yard,
the Chris Rock or the Adam Sandler version and Friday
Night Like Friday Night Life.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Thank you nice, you know what great one. Everybody did
a great job as always. I love this segment and
I'm a little surprised Little Giants did make the list.
I thought it was sneak said nothing. The annexation of.
Speaker 6 (01:32:14):
Puerto Rico almost did.
Speaker 26 (01:32:16):
I got a couple more than nobody mentioned.
Speaker 6 (01:32:18):
Go ahead, mark Brian song with oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
True story of James Kahn yep.
Speaker 26 (01:32:24):
And then just for the comedy sake, horse Feathers with
the Marx Brothers.
Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
You see, you're too good at this. You gotta be
a Wackle movie person to know about the Marx Brothers.
Speaker 17 (01:32:35):
And you know no one.
Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
Also a very recent one American Underdog, the Kurt Warner
story that didn't make anybody's list. I never saw that
you guys might enjoy it. It's a little cheesy, but
I I thought it and somebody had the water Boy, right,
we had the water.
Speaker 26 (01:32:52):
Water Boy, but you reminded me of the blind Side,
So that was another.
Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Another true story, you know, and draft Dy didn't make
the list. I thought that was pretty good and fun.
But you guys really did a good job. But we
are Marshall I thought might make the list as well.
True story about the plane crash that went down one
on Matthew McConaughey. By the way, you'll see him on
the sidelines Saturday in about seven and eight and eight
hours from now in Michigan, Texas. So there's that, all right.
(01:33:18):
Another great job by everybody, good answers, good thoughts of
people want to tweet some of their favorites. They've been
doing it over the last few weeks. This is going

threes movie segment. By the way, our thanks to Rapid

They'll have you covered three hours before college kickoff. Every

MGM right here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart

on the movies and the football and the depth and
the knowledge and the texture and exceptional callers tonight on
(01:36:02):
the Dion situation, very candid What I really liked about
what the callers do every week is they have an opinion.
They have a definitive opinion that they don't equivocate, they
don't go back and forth. They give a definitive opinion.
It feels genuine, it feels honest and the way they feel.
But then they tell you why, and they bring receipts
(01:36:23):
and they offer up relevant specifics, accurate information in some
cases personal knowledge. A gentleman who lives in Bowler he
sees Schudor Sanders driving around in a Rolls Royce, and
the backstory and some of the other things really really
good callers. Gary from Oakland brought up a superb point
that you know what, we're underestimating the fact that Dion
(01:36:44):
has given Colorado exactly what they wanted. Maybe we've done
that because the flash and dash and wore off so
quickly and the honeymoon stage wore off. But look what
he's really done for the university and the popularity. And
if you've ever been to Bolert, it's an amazing area.
Maybe you watch MOREK and Mindy. There's a flashback that
was filmed in Boulder, Colorado. It's a very, very very
unique place. And good buddy of mine here in Colorado.
(01:37:06):
Mike Pritchard was at University of Colorado, was the MVP
of the National Championship game back against Notre Dame in
nineteen ninety one, played for Bill McCartney. So Colorado's had
their day in the sun, and it'd been a long
time and Dion has allowed them to relive those glory
days as it were. They're not having this success on
the field, and some of his tactics are being questioned,
(01:37:28):
but look how much we spent talking about him tonight.
Right again, the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
You have to be invested to care, and people are
invested in Colorado and Dion Sanders. And by the way,
I like him. I was just merely inquisitive as to Okay,
you know, you are overseeing a major program and if
(01:37:50):
someone tries to copy this model elsewhere, you know, let's
face it, I mean, that is this good? I don't.
We had great opinions. One of the reasons we had
such great opinions is people, more than one person amplified
the fact that this is entertainment, this is show business.
(01:38:10):
The one caller for Alaska Jad talked about the famous
story Sonny Werblin, who is you know signed Joe Namath
to the massive contract. He was all about show business
and Joe Namath understood that. And we've start to realize
that this is what we consume in America. We don't
have royalty in our country. And to that end, that
(01:38:31):
caller even talked about how Monday Night football became show
business because the two one of the original announcers. They
weren't the absolute originals, but they were early on. Howard Cosell,
the legendary journalist, and Don Meredith, Dandy Don Meredith who
played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and then was an
athlete in the booth. Here's the true story. Howard Cosell
(01:38:55):
hated Dandy Don Meredith thought he was a dumb jock
and the jockocracy was ruining sports. Meanwhile, Dandy Don Meredith
hated Howard Cosell. What do you know, Howard, You never
wore a jock, You never played sports. They hated each other,
and they for the most part, sort of kept it
under wraps. But you can always, too, you know, tell
(01:39:18):
when two people got the red ass at each other.
Even the body language gives it away. There was one
particular exchange. This happened on Monday night football. One night,
Howard decided he would trip up Dandy Don Meredith. They
were getting along this particular night. I don't know if
it was phony or for real, but for whatever reason,
they were getting along on this particular date. And here's
(01:39:41):
the deal, I don't know where. Howard looks at Dandy
Don Meredith and says, oh, well, well, Dandy, Don, you're
rather truckulent tonight. And there was kind of silence, and
Dandy or Howard says, do you know what that word means?
Speaker 6 (01:39:56):
Don?
Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
He goes, of course I do, Howard. If you had
a truck and I borrowed it, well that would be
a truck you lin. And somehow, I don't know, he
won up them. Some people are very quick on their feet,
others aren't. Both of them are right. Howard meant it
as a compliment, but I think he was setting Dandy.
You know, he was setting Dandy down up because they
(01:40:17):
were having good exchanges and they were going back and
forth and trucul it means you're just really assertive, really
you're really aggressive, and you're really eager to kind of engage,
and Howard liked that in people. He respected that and
Dandy Don was one night he thought he trip them
up there you have it so good on that call
(01:40:37):
or remember that again. I want to reiterate, great stuff
on the movies, great stuff on of course the midnight hour.
Lots of news in soccer, including a relatively big name
who just retired. We'll get to that coming up at first.
Our chef up with the.
Speaker 6 (01:40:55):
Latest, Yeah, Bernie. The NFL a rare Friday night game.
Now the Anti Trust Act, the Anti Trust that Congress
gave the NFL stipulated no Friday night games, but doesn't
start till the second week of September. And with this,
with this being the first Friday in September, the NFL
taking advantage. Now, I'm questioning whether maybe it might be
a trial run to move Week one up to Labor
(01:41:17):
Day weekend to maybe get more Friday action. That's just
my personal speculation. Nonetheless, they did have a game down
in Brazil, Eagles and Packers. As Philadelphia wins this one
thirty four to twenty eight sake one Barkley Man, his
fantasy owner is happy tonight. Three touchdowns, two of them
on the ground, one hundred and nine rushing yards and
Jayden Rita, for his own part, led the Packers four catches,
(01:41:40):
one hundred and thirty eight yards and a touchdown, but
the Packers lost the game, might very well have lost
their quarterback. We'll have to see exactly what Jordan Love's
status is going forward. Matt Lafloor asked after the game
Jordan Love tweaking his lower left leg with six seconds ago,
and Matt Lafluor was asked about it and he said, quote,
I don't know. Love did not address the media after
(01:42:02):
the game. In the college ranks, we had three games
on this Friday night. It was a thriller on the
shores of Lake Michigan Duke in Northwestern and this one
went to two overtimes where the Blue Devils do win
in twenty six to twenty BYU and SMU. The Cougars
win this one eighteen fifteen in Indiana, seventy seven to
three blowout against Western Illinois. Major League Baseball, the National
(01:42:28):
League Wild Card continues to be tight. It's tied for
the last spot between the Mets and Braves. They both
do get the win on Friday night, the Mets outlasting
the Reds in extra innings six to four. Meanwhile, the
Braves do get the win against the Blue Jays three
to one. Down American League East, that's been sea sawing
all season long between the Orioles and the Yankees, but
(01:42:48):
each of those teams getting a victory. On Friday, Yankees
a day game against the Cubs, were the New York
winning this one three to nothing. As for the Baltimore Orioles,
they beat the Rays, a shutout win for Baltimore two
to nothing. That American League Central, the Guardians trying all
they can to finally give themselves some breathing room, and
(01:43:09):
they do get the win against the Dodgers three to one,
but they are two closest division teams trailing them did
play each other, so they weren't going to gain any
ground regardless. But the Royals do get the shutout to
win against the Twins five and nothing. So it is
Kansas City four and a half games back at Cleveland
in the AL Central Minnesota currently sits at five games.
(01:43:32):
As for the Dodgers, not only do they lose the
game three to one, but they got some bad news
on the injury front. Another pitcher on the injured list,
Gavin Stone and he had been so reliable, the only
starter for the Dodgers to actually make every start during
his turn in the rotation this season, and now he's
on the injured list right shoulder inflammation. And to make
matters worse, ti Oscar Hernandez, who's been a great pick
(01:43:53):
up for Los Angeles, likely heading to the injured list.
According to Dave Roberts, he was hitting the foot by
a pitch and tests revealed a contusion, so ti Oscar
gonna be out at least for a little while. In tennis,
Jennicksonner advances to the final of the US Open and
Men's Singles. He gets a straight sets win against Jack Draper,
(01:44:14):
the twenty fifth seed, so Taylor Fritz the American defeats
Francis Tiofo in five sets. He will advance to face
center for the US Open Championship. And in the NFL,
we do have some injury updates. Russell Wilson questionable for
Sunday's game. He's got a string calf muscle. Jamar Chase
for the Bengals listed as questionable as he just recently
(01:44:36):
returned to the team, and t Higgins has a hamstring injury.
He is doubtful for Sunday's matchup against New England. Forty
nine er running back Christian McCaffrey limited in practice again
he has been dealing with a calf issue. Back to you, Bernie, all.
Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
Right, Jeff, So in the world of soccer, we have
a retirement announcement. She got pregnant, she retired, but maybe
not necessarily in that order. Time for Christophett's World of Soccer.
Speaker 14 (01:45:02):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.
Speaker 1 (01:45:18):
It's all here in this report from the World of soccer.
Speaker 30 (01:45:22):
A quick international break here this weekend, Bernie, we got
UEFA Nations League in Conca, calf in action and across
the world. So club soccer takes again a back seat.
Not really much to talk about besides a very shocking
three to one victory for Italy over France to start
the group stage of UEFA Nations League. Just killing Amape
(01:45:43):
very invisible. I mean, he's been scoring goals in his
Madrid showing, showing, but in general some very stark, very
surprising results here. For the French side of things, u
US is not playing in Nations League this weekend. They'll
be having a friendly on Saturday with Canada. It's a
good time to step back and once again appreciate what
(01:46:05):
has been the almost unstoppable dominance of one Earling Holland.
We'll love to see what he else on the international
side of things, but can we talk a little bit
about what he's done out of the gate for Manchester City. Now,
if you don't know the name Earling Holland, he really
came onto the scene in twenty twenty two where he
came over from German side Borussia Dortmund and almost immediately
(01:46:26):
out of the gate just scoring a tremendous amount of goals.
In his first year with Manchester City, he had more
goals than appearances. So far in twenty twenty four. Right now,
Earling Holland has seven goals in three appearances. And to
help you with that math, let's just go ahead and
tell you how that breaks down. Right now, two of
those games were hat tricks. Two of those games he
(01:46:47):
had three goals in two separate games. Yes, it's unbelievable
and just a tremendous, tremendous force. Already starting off, Earling
Hollands joined some exclusive Premier League history because only six
players have ever scored hat tricks in consecutive Premier League
matches and his scoring records already put him en route
(01:47:09):
as a very early favorite for the Beloondior. Just a
tremendous amount of power once again, as Manchester City just
reminds the world that they may have one of the
greatest young players in the world right now. I will
put him up there against Killian and Bape for the
time being, just because this scoring does not seem to
(01:47:30):
be stopping anytime soon. But as we said, Bernie, the
men's side is on a break here and for the
international competition, and it's a good time to talk about
the retirement of one of America's great Alex Morgan announcing
this week that she intends to end her playing career
after this weekend in professional women's soccer, that she will
(01:47:52):
be saying her role moving into the future will be
investing in women's sports. Also announced that she is pregnant
with her second child and will and her professional playing
career after Sunday's game against North the North Carolina Courage
in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL. This brings to
a close a tremendous career for Alex Morgan, thirty five
(01:48:15):
years old, with two World Cup titles to her name
and a gold medal from twenty twelve London Olympics. Morgan
has been around the block, been working for fifteen years
here with the national team. All in all, one hundred
and twenty three goals for the United States in about
just over two hundred and twenty appearances, and it's important
(01:48:36):
to remember that Alex Morgan was doing this bright at
early She was one of the youngest US soccer players
to go out there and score twenty goals in a
single season. She earned accolades throughout her her entire career
and led the way in turning the US women's team
into a force that has recognized the world over one
of the largest in women's sports, along with Carli Lloyd
and Mega Arpino, and she was for a long time
(01:48:58):
the last link to that old generation. It was not
assumed that you'd be playing in another Women's World Cup
coming up here given her age at this point. But
also at the same time continue to play professional soccer
for the San Diego Wave, but after Sunday that will
be no more.
Speaker 6 (01:49:17):
So make sure to tune in if you can.
Speaker 30 (01:49:19):
Sunday as the San Diego Wave take on the North
Carolina Courage as the final farewell to more Alex Morgan
a true American patriot when it comes to the game
of soccer now only, however, if ESPN would cover it
a little bit better. I don't know if you saw this, Ernie,
and I understand I'm getting into some thorny territory here.
(01:49:42):
People love artificial intelligence or what they call AI, which
is actually large language models, is not actually intelligent, it's
just guessing at what you do. But this has been
the big thing for investors as people who try to
figure out ways to shoehorn in artificial intelligence AI large
language models into our sports and our sports coverage. We
(01:50:02):
had this incident here with NBC putting on a fake
Al Michaels to do recaps of Olympics during in Paris.
But ESPN made an announcement here this week that said,
and this was from their front row, this is from
their big pr thing that they were trying to bring
(01:50:23):
in a new AI project that was going to, in
their words, basically help them write stories that would serve
what they call underserved sports. One of those happening to
be the National Women's Soccer League and WSL, along with
the Premier Lacrosse League, So this is something they've been
wanting to roll out and what they call underserved sports.
(01:50:45):
It's important to note too that the recap blurb they
meant to showcase the feature got the record of the
Washington Spirit wrong. So right out of the gate, just
really really not working well. I find this very cynical.
I find its ESPN's decision to use AI technology from
(01:51:05):
Microsoft very cynical. To call them underserved is ridiculous to
call them. And what you do if you see an
underserved sport and you think you need to solve the
problem is you hire people to actually cover those sports.
AI cannot cover those sports. It can only regurgitate, screw
up and make mistakes. You're better off not covering them
(01:51:27):
at all than putting an AI on it because it's insulting.
There's many people out there who are very passionate about
the NWSL.
Speaker 6 (01:51:35):
I've met in many of those people.
Speaker 30 (01:51:36):
They would gladly write about the NWSL if given the opportunity. Instead,
you roll out this AI slop that just gets facts
wrong all the time and insults real hard working journalists
hardworking coverage and insults that sport by deciding to put
something in there. That's just literally guessing. It doesn't know anything.
(01:51:57):
It doesn't know what a right score is. It's scrat
the Internet and tries to make an inference and guess
what it thinks is right. And in this case, all
it can do is just keep getting things wrong. I've
seen Gannett roll out the same thing to try to
cover high school sports, and it is always, always, always
pointed out at getting stuff wrong all the time.
Speaker 6 (01:52:16):
This is not a new innovative to technology.
Speaker 30 (01:52:18):
It's been tried many times before, and it's not really
helping anyone at the end of the day by serving
them with AI slop instead of actual coverage of these games.
Speaker 1 (01:52:26):
What it is is a quick bucke in.
Speaker 30 (01:52:28):
It's a cash in to try to get investors to show,
to show investors, look, look we're using AI. We're using AI,
because investors then blindly then throw money at you. This
is not something that belongs in the world of soccer.
Soccer is a sport of the people for the people,
and it has always been very sensitive to that. Shame
on ESPN for doing this, Shame on these AI companies
(01:52:50):
for trying to sell us this idea that it can
replace human beings. Covering these sports and ESPN. If you
think the NWSL is underserved, go hire some people to
start serving them. That's all I've got for you this week, Bernie,
enjoy the world of soccer.
Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
Well, I guess the world of soccer has been so
much of the media with the World Cup and the
Olympics and so on and so forth. Maybe it's coming
back down. And they do rely on star power. So
as long as the messages of the world, et cetera
are in, well we'll see what happens. Speaking of star power,
what do you hear? Who's going to be on the
sidelines for Texas Michigan on Saturday, which kicks off here
(01:53:29):
in a bounce once seven and a half hours. And
I'm not just talking about the players. We'll chop it up.
Coming back, I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to live for
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tarrect dot com studios.
Keep it locked or listening to the Bernie Fradtle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, wrap it up on
the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come to live
from me tyreck dot com studios here in Las Vegas.
(01:53:52):
Before I go any further, I want to take my
broadcast team back in Los Angeles, turning all the dials,
keeping us together. You taken all the calls the movie segment,
and of course Mark Ramsey doing a fabulous job, our
technical producer, keeping this glue together. Here in the chef
Kevin wired on all the updates they've been with me. So,
(01:54:16):
of course, since eleven pm Pacific on Friday night, I
will be back on these airwaves eleven pm Saturday night.
A lot to digest. We've got another slate of college football,
and we've got to preview the NFL. I know, we've
already got a couple of games under our belt, the
game Thursday night between the Chiefs and the Ravens, and
(01:54:38):
then you know the game that seemed to fly under
the radar, Maybe not so much. They flew under the radar,
the Packers and Philadelphia, a high scoring affair. So we'll
head back from Brazil. But we got a great slate Sunday.
We'll break it down Saturday night quite a bit, some
(01:55:00):
really interesting marquee matchups. You got some divisional teams playing
each other, Raiders and Hardball making his debut Aaron Rodgers.
By the time we signed on next week, Aaron Rodgers
will have been on the field again. We'll see where
that goes. And of course Kansas City, well one down,
minute to go, we'll see what happens. By the way,
(01:55:21):
in about nine hours set check that seven and a
half hours or less, Texas Longhorns will teed up against
the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan currently ranked tenth. Not sure if
they're worthy of that ten ranking. Maybe they are. There
are seven seven and a half point home underdog against Texas,
who looked pretty terrific last week against an overmatched Colorado
(01:55:43):
State team. Texas ranked third. They'll play for just the
second time ever, the second time ever. The last time
they played almost twenty years ago. You may remember the
Rose Bull thriller January first, twenty oh five, when Texas
outlasted the Wolverines Vince Young and Texas thirty eight to
thirty seven on a field goal was time expired. Twenty
years later, they're gonna tangle. This is all part of
(01:56:05):
the new college football landscape. You're getting these great matchups
early in the season. Texas visits the Big House be
the first time, and you know, here there's a real
contrast between these two schools because both programs have recruited
and developed quality talent over the past few years. But
(01:56:27):
you got Texas has a big advantage Saturday and that
they've got coach quarterback continuity with Steve Tarkisian and Quinn Ewers,
whereas Charon Moore takes over for Jim Harbaugh and you
know he's breaking in well, Davis Warren, I you think
you're gonna see Alex Orgy with some you know, some reps.
(01:56:50):
Can Michigan sustaining the run they're gonna need to And
this is all about conference bragging rights. It kicks off
at about nine m. Not everybody thinks Texas is gonna win.
I think they're gonna when I don't necessarily think it's
going to be a blowout. I do think Michigan has
some challenges offensively. They just don't have the skilled players
that they've had. And you know, you lose JJ McCarthy,
(01:57:11):
who is a wizard on third down, wizard and fourth
quarter and a wizard on you know, you know, moving
the chains, right, This is a guy in the red zone.
He found the way to score. There were prolific wasn't
asked to do a lot, but he was asked he
came through. That's the biggest difference. Michigan still has one
of the best defensive front sevens in college football. That'll
be a real matchup to watch. And the bottom line
(01:57:34):
is I think Texas would just have too much for them.
Michigan stills Will Johnson the best quarterback corner cornerback in
the country. They just don't have the depth. You know
what's going to be interesting though. Watch the sideline. Just
see Matthew McConaughey. He was also there in that January
first game many years ago for Texas. Derek Jeter, the
honorary captain for Michigan, Michael Phelps, the Ann Arbor guy
(01:57:55):
who won a million gold medal swimming, and Will Ferrell.
They're all expected to benn Arbor on Saturday for your
viewing pleasure. All right, it's gonna do it for the
Bernie Frattle Show. As I said, I will be back
on these airwaves Saturday night, eleven PM. Lots to talk
about and we'll break it down and have it for you.
(01:58:15):
In the meantime, keep it locked up. Next the Fellas
