Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Wow, good morning, happy Happy Fox Sports Saturday. The Knicks
age closer to break in the streak, to end in
the drought. Woah, what a basketball game last night. It
was amazing, and the Spurs showed their youth. I mean,
(00:28):
that's basically it. They're gonna be a special team. They're
gonna be great. But that's the difference right in Games
one and two were kind of the roles were reversed.
In Game one, the Spurs led throughout, the Knicks kind
of hung around, they made the big run, and then
(00:49):
the Spurs had no answer down the stretch. In Game two,
the Knicks controlled it basically from the second quarter on
up as much as fourteen team. In the fourth Spurs
go on the run like the Knicks to the Game one.
They get all the way up, they tie the game,
(01:10):
they're going. They had the ball with a chance to win,
and Wenby just kind of flips the ball on a
kind of a haphazard pass.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
That's what wasn't looking for it.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Bronson gets the loose ball, Wemby has the Wemby thousand
Brunton it's one of two free throws, and then Wemby
gets a great look, I mean, got a wide open look,
great look to win the game, and he misses and
Nicks go on to win to Game two take a
(01:48):
two to zero lead in this series. Headed back to
what will be a raucous Madison Square Garden on Broadway.
Good morning. Here we are fellas and he is my
main man, the great Jeff Schwartz. Hello, Jeff, your worst
(02:10):
nightmare is happening right in front of you as a
Sixers fan. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
You call the Knicks the worst fan base all sports.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Dix fans the worst fan base in all sports, and
they're about toys de Larry and Brian Trophy. I don't
know where. I don't know where to begin. You said
something that I think is very important, and maybe they discounted.
So you know, there's a time of this in football
a lot. The Chiefs did this forever. They did not
beat themselves right. They used to beat themselves the Patriots
(02:39):
right for so long. There's never beat themselves right. That
was a quality they had with the other team did
something dumb to lose the game, right, And the Knicks
have that quality. Watching Knicks play through two games, they
don't beat themselves right, and the Spurs look like a
young team? Is we thought all along? We thought that
(03:00):
Game seven in Oklahoma City erased all that noise over
the years of how young teams can win NBA championships.
And again to the first two games in this series,
and we have an older, mature Knicks team and a
young a young young gun in like they're coming. The
Spurs are coming. But they turn the ball way too much.
And the final minutes of these games have mattered so much.
(03:21):
You mentioned the sequence last night. Right, they get a stop, right,
Wemby has the ball about ten seconds left. It appears
they're about to run a fast break. Stefan Castle, who's
the point guard, Right, is he get to do his
fast break? Lane, turns his head away from Wemby. Now
(03:42):
I don't watch enough Spurs basketball. I'll tell you, like,
does Wemby bring the ball up often? From what I've
seen this postseason, he does not. I haven't seen a
lot of Wemby bring the ball up. But you got
ten seconds left. You're not calling on time out, You're
trying to make a play. I get Stefan Castle goes, okay,
he didn't give me the ball immediately. But to be fair,
like Brunton was sort of right there. I get why
he didn't get the ball right now. Now he throws
the ball to Wemby. He throws the ball. Castle is
(04:03):
not looking, and then he thin it.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Was also a hapaz pass.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yeah, it wasn't a great it was not pass.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
It's terrible. Like you can't just I'm surprised Castle ahead.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
I'm surprised Castle just quickly turned around. But it was
a bad pass. And then you found Brunson. Now, remember
the Spurs had a foul to give. They used it
way too early in the last possession. Like what, I
disagree with you. I think you were supposed to use
it there they used it. Yes, you were supposed to
use it there they used it. But if they still
(04:40):
it worked out. But it worked out exactly how you
wanted it to work out. Where you had the ball
with ten seconds to go. Remember it goes back. It
was funny.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I'm watching my with my little guy and he's like, Daddy,
they shot the ball. Why do you why do you
take that that three? It was a quick shot. I
go got to get it two for one?
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Okay, Well, I hate I hated the last two Spurs possessions.
You have I get the two for one is a
great idea. Wemby shooting a contested twenty footer is not
a good two for one play and the final play
of the game, and this is where I think again,
all sort of like the youngness of the Spurs. You
gotta get someone go to the basket man, like I understand,
(05:23):
he got a look.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
They waited.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Look is Wemby's game eighteen footers? I would say, that's
not his game, Like you gotta find a shot that
makes that makes sense for the way he's playing right now.
He hasn't been what has he Has he been an
eighteen footer in this series? I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
He made it. He made it.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
He shoots, he shoots threes. Great, This pull up eighteen
footer is not his game right now.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
It was what it was, a wide open look.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
And they got it the.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Two Wemby mid range jump shots. You have to find
something better if you're the Spurs. The point being though
the Knicks are leading this series, where they were trailing
by twelve and fourteen points, the first time in the
play by play era that teams have been trailing in
the first two games by twelve plus points and one
and Brunton is what five for one hundred in the series.
(06:18):
I got it right here. It's nineteen for fifty six
and they're still winning. Look the Spurs in Theory Can.
They were up one with forty seconds left in this game.
They were I think tied with two minutes left in
Game one. I mean, it's not like they have been dominated.
I have been stretches in games where they had been dominated,
stretches a games where they can't score and look like
(06:39):
a team that doesn't really know what they're doing. In
Theory the Spurs Can. I think they're young enough and
notive enough to win Game three in New York. It's
gonna be the craziest arena environment we've had in years
in the NBA. But they gotta make plays down the stretch.
They just have to do that well.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I mean, that's what youth is, right. Like, they were
up huge in game one. Did knicks were dead three
different times? They were dead three different times. They came
back off the mat.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
You liked the two for one first shot Wenby took
out of all the things, get an offense.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Take it two for one. That's how it works.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
I get that. But they didn't have to so Box
and Harper were getting the paid all they wanted, the
perfect world.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
In the perfect world, yeah, I mean when I like
more basket action or more action to the basket. Okay,
you know, but but I need to get a two
for one.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
It worked.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
The point is it worked well. It didn't work.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
They didn't make any of the shots. I mean it.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Worked in that two for one worked in that they
got the ball with ten seconds to go to win
it or go into overtime. That's what you're playing for.
And Wemby made it was careless play. It was it
careless play. He didn't stop. It was careless and then
(08:04):
he has commenced a foul and then he's got a look.
The last shot. I'll argue with you all day long.
That last shot was a great look. I want that
shot all day long. He's got great touch. He could
make that shot. He just missed him saying he can't
make that shot. Absolutely, I would have liked something to
go into the basket. You're not can't get a basket
(08:25):
at that point. I think you got you got time,
and you're not, and most of your chances are not
getting a foul.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
You got a great look.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
You you ran I thought the play was great. Let's
run a high screen a roll and it worked like
you got you got him all, you got him free
with a look, I'm shot. The look you got the
first two for one shot I thought was the worst
one of all that. That was just that was I mean,
that's what happens when you're playing for one and you're
trying to get the you're trying to you're trying to
you're trying to get up a shot like I get it.
(08:55):
You know you're not wrong, and that would you like
action to the basket. Yeah, but you're trying to get
a shot up because the last thing you need is
for the NXT. They had the last shot correct.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
And then also too in this whole thing, you know,
Wemby founding Brunson off to that steal like that just
it's just unnecessary, right, and how he just bailed right
into Brunston like Brunston had the ball, Like there wasn't
he wasn't taking the ball from Brunson. Brunston already had
the ball and it just like the whole sequence looking
like a twenty two year old playing in his you know,
his first finals. And you know Wemby was not good.
(09:29):
In the first half. He played much be in the
second half he started doing some alien stuff. But just
what he I think he's got to get you know,
you know, three pointers which he keep making and he's
just going to pay it's more right. I mean the Spurs,
how many how many weby him off from the paint, like,
you know, that's where he's got to get. How many
how many Wenby how many Wenby lobs the Spurs could execute?
For some reason, all of a sudden they looked there
(09:50):
was a very pasfal game.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
He missed.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
You know, let's hey, a great second half.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
He scored a lot of points, but there was that
one lob you're talking about with about three minutes to go.
It could have took his missed it. He missed, he
missed it. I mean he did, you know, I mean
they bodied him. You know, he plays his game because
he's so long where he's like kind of he's at
(10:16):
the bay. He uses his body to kind of get
close to the rim.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
But you know, man on social media, with social media,
we got a a Ben Stiller video from the final
play of the game, like he's right there, like it
looks like he had his you know, obviously his iPhone there,
but like looking as a professional camera.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Look, you're right, Look web, we got a great shot.
He was open.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I just I thought the action took too long to
get into and I just, man, if you're the action,
well he just Fox stood there for three seconds before
he started moving to the pick and roll. And I
get you want the final shot, but also you had
no chance for a rebound and anything after that play
He stood there for three seconds.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Dude, I mean that's you're trying to set to play
up just picking screen and roll. You're not going right
into it like it's a screen and roll like that.
It was executed perfectly. I got no problem. Like you
you want to quibble about the two for one shot,
all right, Like I don't know what kind of shot
you're going to get when you're trying to rush it down.
I get it it wasn't optimum. You're right about that,
(11:20):
but the lay shot, the execution. The shame of it
is was they executed, but they you know, you just
can't have a sloppy pass with ten seconds to go, Like, dude,
gather yourself before when you're trying to get into a guard,
gather yourself first. He just scooped it out, like, oh god,
(11:44):
I don't know what you're thinking.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
It was. Uh, it was just a scene for the
Spurs that the young team that just they just can't
overcome some of the youngness. And the next though, they
just don't make mistakes, man, they don't. Cat's been incredible.
He's the MVP right now. Obviously, I wonder what the
odds are for him right now. I don't think most
people thought if this was going to be a series
(12:07):
that was won by the Nicks, it would be Brunson.
And I thought Brunson was struggling this. I got one
thing right so far in this series. I thought Brunson
would struggle because of the length of the Spurs and
the physicality. Has it mattered and he does. He makes
the big shots when I mean, you know, you got
a killer lark right, like it's so funny. Brunton is
still the favorite to be MVP. I don't and what
(12:28):
I guess maybe though he'll play better at home. I mean,
Towns has easily been MVP of the series. You know,
he's had what he's had eighteen and twelve and then
he had twenty one and thirteen. He and he's been
great on defense too, which has been you know, a surprise.
I thought he get a foul trouble. He got a
(12:48):
little of foul trouble. Yeah, I thought he was last night.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I thought he'd be in way thirty, played thirty four
minutes because of at I mean played well. I agree
with you. He's played great ball. I mean he's played
great ball. You know when he's at when Webby's out
of the game is cat time, right, because when Webby's
out of the game, when Cortnett comes in right, because
(13:11):
they're playing a hot that's where they do their high
screen and roll. And he shot the ball really well.
He had three more threes last night. Yeah right, It's
always been when Webby's out of the game. When Webby's
out of the game, is when you what's his plus minus?
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Who Cordett?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
No? When? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Well yeah, but minus.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Seven yesterday, you know, when we had the game three,
like what the Spurs just like, hey, shoot the ball better, man,
Like I don't like like they just I don't know
what the Champagne yesterday had eight points in the first
eight minutes, never scored again. Fox actually played well, which
was nice to see Castle just as the turnovers in
(13:56):
the shooting looks young, right, I mean there's not only
many said I for the Spurs just to hey, we
got to play better. We got I mean their bench
is giving them nothing right now. Harper actually in.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Credible the bench. I mean, looking at the Knicks bench.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
I don't even count Harper as like a bench player,
even though he is. I mean he plays down down
the stretch because he has I mean, what you're missing.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Is like sham it yesterday, sham it, shambit goes nuts. Right,
it's three three scored thirteen huge points last night.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Like even Michel Robinson when when Cats out, he give
him something, right, When when Wemby's out he got couldn't
even take a shot last night.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
I don't think you don't want to shoot anyway. Well
I know, but like he didn't even get it.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah, but he can, he can score around the page kills.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Gave you nothing, It's okay.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
So I look, I don't follow NBA awards very very
very closely. I mean the MVP. You know what, would
someone said he want sixth Player of the Year. I
was like this guy, who yeah, he's the sixth best
player on the Spurs right now? Well, Harper.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
You know, obviously Harper was great, like Calvin Johnson, give enough,
and I mean that's the that's.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Sixteen minutes, three points one.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
That's a problem. I mean, shamt Penny if I got
one beef with the Spurs and you know, shamp Penny
gets no shots. I think he had one shot in
the second half. I don't know what he was for
the first half, but.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Yeah, I mean I know eight points because I know
eight points almost immediately right and almost two for six
from the field, Like you gotta give him.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Here's what I don't understand how they run their offense sometimes,
like you got to open things up for Wembiyama and
that means haven have Champenny like he can knock down
that three two for five again last night, He's got
to get eight threes at least minimum.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
You gotta get He had ten shot at ten threes
in Game one. He has seventeen shot times in the
series and fifteen or threes and yes.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
About how you spread the floor and five of them
last night. The Spurs have done a good job in
this season of those corner threes. It's been a big
deal for them. They did it well. It's Okay, see.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
They have not done it as well in this series.
I mean the Knicks have done it good. There was
a play, you know, it was the early fourth quarter
where the Spurs are started making it come back a
little bit, and I think Fox dribbles in the lane,
stops and then he tries to throw the ball out
to the corner and the Knicks just picked it off
and went down and lay up. But they've done a
good job of understanding where the ball's going next in
the series. When Spurs scored ninety five and one oh four,
(16:32):
I thought last night the Spurs were going to go
for one hundred and twenty, right. I think they scored
thirty four in the first quarter. They were incredible, and
then all of a sudden, they had that two quarter
stretch from the end of the first quarter until about
five minutes left in the third quarter, they scored twenty
five points. The Spurs did they just went quiet, while
the Knicks just took off. And the Knicks look strongly.
(16:54):
Og has been incredible, just physically right, this physical play
in the paint. He's made it enough threes to keep
to keep them a little honest. You're right. I mean
their bench Shaman has played better than I thought he.
I mean, he's on it. They mentioned last I didn't
know this a month. You know, he was on a
non guaranteed contract would start the season, which is like
I know, it was the thing in the NBA bridges
(17:17):
making enough shots. Cat's been great and the Knicks look
like a really good basketball team. That's that's two inns
away from a championship. I will say though, again, the
Spurs were up one and forty seconds left and we're
tired than with two minutes left in Game one. So
they they've been in these games. They could easily win
Game three, Game four, make this a series. I don't
think they will, but would it surprised me if the
(17:39):
Spurs made a series from here on out?
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Probably, but they can.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
And these are not two Knicks blowouts, even though Game
one end up being a ten point win for the
next But Dave won what thirteen in a row? Now,
they've covered twelve to thirteen. I mean they've played they
I think I saw too. They have lost this NFL draft.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yeah, it's unbelievable the run that they're on.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
And what it is is they finish right like it
goes back to finishing. And you said it earlier about
being a veterans. See they're smart, right. It starts with Brunson.
Brunson finishes, and then all those role players around him.
It was funny I thought this that I have a
(18:19):
dear friend of mine. We worked together, de von Gibbons.
His cousin is Michel Bridges. Okay, so we live. We've
lived Michal with Devon together. We work together. He does
the sixes for our network and the whole thing. Anyway,
So he's in San Antonio with the family at the game.
(18:43):
So I'm texting with him. Last time, I go, Cutsin's
got to get the ball. We call Bridges' cousin. I
go Cut's gotta get the ball and he shots. Second
quarter here is he takes over. He had twelve in
the second quarter and were ten, and then he finished
with and they had another ten in the second half.
(19:03):
Like you, they need that contribution their veteran team, right,
Like that's where they just know how to stay in games.
They know how to get leaves, they know how to
close games. Now, the scary thing is for the Spurs
is that in these series up until now, the Knicks
(19:26):
win a couple of tough games and then they shoot the.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Hell out of the ball and blow teams out.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Yeah, the Knicks are due for that game, and that's
what if you're the Spurs, Like, that's that's what's scary.
Like they're do for the Josh Hardicks five threes game, right, yeah,
so shammy, yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Alvarado and right like all those dudes making it rain.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
It does feel like the Spurs also, I mean, are
due for a game where they shoot the ball well
for the entire four quarters. But it might not happen
because of their going back to you or I don't know,
I write you need you need a freak wemby game.
I think I think that they're young enough and don't
know enough yet to not be as like, oh boy,
we're down to nothing, this is it, right? I think
(20:12):
I think they're too young to realize that. Yeah, but
also maybe too young to deal with the crowd that's
going to happen. While that's gonna be a sadity.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Let's talk. We gotta take quick to you.

(21:28):
But yes, when last we left, we were talking about
what Monday will look like at Madison Square Garden, where
the ticket will be what five figures, but it will
be in attended.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
I got a buddy going I don't even know what,
Like I forget what he told me he paid for that. Like,
I mean, if you've saved money for a lifetime, this
is I guess this is what it's for. Right, you
can if you have the money like this is this
is now time to use the money. Yeah, I mean, Look,
the President coming adds another layer of this, right, because
every sporting event he's at, you know, it just includes
(22:08):
extra security, extra scrutiny. It's gonna be it's gonna it's
gonna be a madhouse anyways, and you include the president
in that. I've had I've had people I know go
to football games where the president's at. It just adds
extra everything, Right, So the atmosphere is going to be
even extra just to get in in the arena, Right,
it's gonna be crazy. Look for those who who might
(22:31):
not have been to MSG before, I've been fortunate to go.
I know you you you've been there plenty plenty of times.
And I've only been for Rangers games. I've not been
for Knicks games. I went to Rangers. I went to
three Ranger playoff games in twenty fourteen. I've seen concerts
there when I played for the Giants. That place is
so awesome it's hard to explain. Like you walk in there,
(22:54):
at least for me, and there is a very old
school vibe. It's older arena obviously, right like you you're
just sort of when you're there, it feels very much
like you're there for the sporting event you're at right
where some arenas you walk into there's just a lot
of other things, a lot of things happening in the arena.
You're just there for this event, right, You're just there
for the basketball, the hockey. The way the lighting is
(23:16):
done makes it to where like the court is the
central focus of They mean the Lakers do this too.
They've done this forever. Where they low the Lakers lower
all the lights except the ones over the court. They
did this the form they do it in Staple Center now,
So it makes that the main event the court right
where other arenas you see there's light everywhere. Right in MSG.
They just light the court up, they turn the lights
(23:38):
and everywhere else. It's cinematic feeling to it. And in
the expanse been waiting generations for this opportunity. It's it's
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
One of the.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Coolest crowd environments we've had in sports in recent memory,
I can't imagine one that we I mean, you know,
college football, big culturable Saturday probably feels this way. There's
no NFL stadium that I mean maybe Buffalo, Kansas City
that feel quote quite like this, but nothing in baseball.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
It's going to be the sea about the arena sports.
And then you add the historical nature of the Garden.
You add nineteen seventy three, the drought since the Knicks
had won. There's been a drought in New York since
twenty thirteen when the first one the Giants one eleven
(24:28):
or eleven. That was the last time. That was the
last championship of New York.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Yeah, because the Yankees had one nine and then the
Knicks haven't won forever. The Mets no chance. I mean,
you know, you know, but yes, no, in sports, yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
You have you you have a huge drought. You have it.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
It's a great basketball city.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
You know, it's always been a baseball Like if I
was going to rank New York, I having spent having
worked up there for a long time, I would say
a baseball is number one. Basketball is a close second,
Like that's the that's the sport. It's it's a hoop
sport hoop city, and it's a baseball city, like it's
(25:11):
it's always been, you know, the number one and both
like they they've they've always been that kind of city.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
And you know, I mean it's Madison Square Garden.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
It's Wemby comes in and it's bigger than life. You know,
it's all the money in the world up there, It's
all the celebrities. It's going to be a spectacle. Like
you said, the President is going to be there. I mean,
imagine what that's good, you know, Magi.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
The security for the round, like that security for him
being there just makes it really tough for people that
are like you gotta get there. If you're listening, that's
a going to the game. Congratulations, you got to get
there like an hour earlier.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Now it's i mean, the scene around the garden, like
I can only imagine what that.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Scene is going to be like.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
And that's one of those where like you just, you know,
whenever I go to New York near you know, Christmas,
I just stay away from anything like south of forty
fifth straight, Like I just I'm not like I'm not
going right. This is one of those where like you
just if you have no reason to be thirty fourth
and Broadway. Don't go down there. It's gonna be it's
gonna be like an absolute it's I mean, it's'd be
(26:16):
fun at me if you as a Knicks fan obviously,
if you're just a casual person. Can you imagine just
like getting out of work and you kind of don't
know what's happening on Monday around around Midtown You're like,
what's going on here? Like you're just playing a sports
fans obviously, I mean people that work there in sports fans,
they're gonna be like, what the heck? And then you know,
this series goes long enough there's a World Cup game
at MetLife and a Knicks game on the same day.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, which the World Cup starts Thursday.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Yeah, but I think I think the fourteenth there's like
a crossover game, like there could there could be a game,
you know, I think it's like game.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Yeah. The only thing is it's the met Lunch in Jersey,
so I know. But but like Penn Station, like it's
gonna be I'm talking about for for people I know,
you know, but yeah, it's more about what Penn Station
will look like, you know, like which positions underneath mass
score Garden. It's uh yeah, I love like cool crowd atmospheres.
(27:09):
I think it's super the Caroline Hurricanes the other night,
like incredible crowd shots. After they won that game, By
the way, I went to bed, it was two nothing,
ten minutes left in the hockey game, all right, but
I had the under that game under six. I woke
up and checked the score. I was befuddled. There were
there were four goals scored the last ten minutes of
that game, and then obviously overtime game. We got some good
(27:29):
good sports man, really good sports. Oh, it was all like.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Awesome. Yeah, that game was ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
And then we've got more hockey tonight. They're taking the
extra day off for the NBA, which feels kind of
odd that like they're not playing this weekend. It is
what it is that does I think benefit.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
The I like it, actually. I think it's good, good
travel day, you know. I like the extra day in travel.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Look like they're taking commercial flights though, Like yeah, I know,
but it's good build up, like a healthy build up
from game, like you're switching cities.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
I do think there should be an extra day. I
think hockey I the hockey should play tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
The hockey's not doing that. It does allow the Spurs
and that don't have to travel last night right to
like sleep, go home, sleep in your bed, wake up today,
travel to New York. Get your get your recovery, get
your rehabit. But what wait do sports have been? You know,
you know what it has done though the last couple
of days, I've been like, man, I'm ready for football.
I'll be back with the stop dude, I get away
(28:28):
by that. The sports is like, it's like the sports
and me. I booked my flight out. I booked my
hotel out to Eugene for Week one already, Like I'm
like you did, Yeah, I go to I Yeah, playing
Week one Boys and State for like actual decent team
on Week one. Yeah, I've seen three games since I
I think in the kids of three games, they've won
like eighty one to seven, seventy seven to seven, and
(28:52):
like fifty two to three in three games. I'm taking
this shit, so this will be a little bit better
Week one.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah, I guess what. The boys, he's good.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
They're not gonna win forty six, I hope, So I
would think that we could do that. But it's been.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
You know, I can't wait to see your boys like
they're gonna be. This team is going to be ridiculous, man, Like,
you just know how great he's gonna He's going to
have a great year. You got a heading is such
a great coach. They got a lot of kids back.
This quarter vast year where we have had in our
(29:31):
history an actual like championship or bust season like we've
had years we've been really good. Obviously, even when we
went to the championship at fourteen, it didn't feel like
that was the only way our season was gonna be good.
This was the first time in my lifetime ever it's
a championship or bus season for Oregon. So it's quite
a different, you know as a fan, Like, I'm sure
(29:52):
this year is going to be hell unless we win
the championship.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
But it's the first time i've had that, you know,
really really this is like they buil this team up
for twenty twenty six. So but just the basketball, man,
the hockey's been so good. It just it's got me
to college worl.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Well, you know what it is. It's it's games that matter, right, like,
you know, it's goods amazing, the NBA regular season was trash.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
It was just not good.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Well, the noise is that way.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
No, but it's worse. It was worse this year. I thought.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
I thought it was worse this year in year than
years past. I thought it was even guys not playing
and just the amount of miniature restrictions and it's just harm.
And then the playoffs come around, and the playoffs had
been great, like the first round, he had some upsets,
interesting stuff you had okay se uh Spurs series was awesome.
(30:49):
You had the story of the Knicks running through the East.
You know, it was very interesting. And then you got
these the first two games had been awesome, like really
really great basketball, fun, exciting, it's it's and and you
know it's been captivating them.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
I'm not curious what the prices are for the for
the tickets in MS. I see people complaining, like, like
what do we do about it? Nothing, It's just the
NBA Finals, Like what do you what do you? You
don't go? Like what else do you want? This is
It's never been this way. I mean, oh boy, here
we go. You ready? So? Uh you want to sit
(31:29):
behind the basket. Oh, there's there's one for only eighteen
grand it's actually not bad compared to the rest of
the Do you want to sit not even court like
you want to sit like here we go like five
uh five rows off the court mid court fifty four
thousand dollars. The website of mine listed as an amazing price.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
By the way, I just want to know how to
how many people have this kind of money.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Well again, like I have a friend going, let me
see what he said about it. I think he's just
like I was so so when I in twenty fourteen.
So in twenty fourteen, Well, I always told myself that
I would pay to watch my San Francisco Giants playing
a World Series. I just wanted to go right. And
in twenty fourteen, we had to buy, the Giants had
(32:15):
to buy, and the Giants were playing in the World
Series at home, They're putting the Royals, and so I
was like, look, man, I'm look, I can afford to
like I'm I'm going so and then weren't even that bad.
I bought like tickets behind home plate, a little bit
like one section to the right of horse. I got,
I got to go in the field. I got to
go in the field, like I hit up Dave Flabbank,
(32:36):
who I knew the broadcaster for the Giants and so.
But I paid one thousand dollars for the tickets, which
is a lot. I mean, twenty fourteen. That's a lot
behind home plate. You know, flew across the country last
second I did. They were it was my sixtieth birthday
present of my dad too, so that was part of it.
Now I would have paid probably up to like I mean,
(32:57):
more than one thousand probably a ticket, but like this,
this is in the price range where like I couldn't
even justify this to my wife, like, hey, hun, I'm
spending twenty grand to go watching my basketball team play.
I don't I don't know. I guess you saved that
money for this. And you know what's interesting too, is
like the market took a dive yesterday. People probably are like,
(33:18):
I'm I may a lot in the last two weeks
in the market, like let's go, we made some money
and then yes, you took a dive after you bought
these tickets for eighty eight thousand dollars. But I don't
know who's affording I don't know, I don't know. I mean,
I gotta imagine it come down Monday. I would imagine
if they can't sell these what I said, you tell
her that the world that's not my world. I'm I'm
(33:39):
seeing how much am I? Buddy? I'm looking at the
text right now. How my my, he's thirty thousand dollars each.
I think like it's a it's a it's a business thing, right,
It's like clients and and companies are paying for this. Yeah,
I don't. I don't know. I don't know how you
(34:02):
how you do it. It's it's out of market. I
was I was willing to pay for my tickets for
that World Series up to maybe a couple of grand.
This is like a way out of any price range
i'd pay for. I'll tell you, tell you what the
organ was playing a championship game. I think I would, Well,
I just near a deer. That's a lot of money
for you.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
I don't know if I could, but again, like hold on,
we gotta take quick t o and then and then
and please expound. And Jeff hanging right here on Fox
Sports Radio listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, Welcome back
fellas and Jeff hanging.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
As uh talking a lot about what happened last night.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
The game was amazing. I just heard Convenial Richard play
a little snippet of it, uh and on our network.
And one of the things that they were so right about,
and I just said the same thing to Jeff, which
is the season was horrible and then all of a sudden,
like it does it that hard left turn, it turns
(35:05):
out to be spectacular. They use dust that until dust
till dull reference is fabulous, But it's so true, like
this was a horrible season and the playoffs have been awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
Dude, Yeah, I mean this feels like it's it happens
often with the NBA, and they I throw that out right,
they got feare out why this is the case. I mean,
part of it is like they you know, they don't
call the flopping in the postseason, right like they've they
haven't really done much of that, and the end of
the Thunder series they didn't. They didn't do much of that.
The first two games. They've done a good job of
just sort of keeping the basketball, you know, to what
(35:39):
it is on the court. Like I just it's been
just the players have cared so much, right, you can
tell the passion they're playing with the intensity, the level
of just overall play duh, right, it's much better. Like
it's just very clear how much better this is the
regular season. And it's right, you know, talking about a
(36:00):
lot like I yes, yes, of course you know you
want to watch the regular season, but this is not
the same thing as the regular season. So you know,
don't judge or don't think the playoffs will be a
certain way. Just just pay attention to the play This
is what the playoffs are. It's always this way. And
so it's been great, great basketball.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Yeah, well these playoffs have been even better. I mean
you've had better stories. Firstly the Knicks on one side,
and Wemby and and okay see the other. So it's
actually a perfect storm when you think about it, Like
the storylines are are really good. But the basketball again
the last two nights, in the first few games of
(36:42):
the series, and basketball has just been so good, just
so good. What you're what you're describing. It funny that
your mind went right to football, and I know why
I did, because I'm similarly I feel the same way.
It's when you're watching the end be A finals, the
NHL Stanley Cup Finals. It's a heightened sense of sports, right,
(37:07):
it matters. There's so much on the line, and that's
football every week. To why we love football, it's because
every game matters exponentially more than one hundred and sixty
two baseball games eighty two basketball games, like it just
does like and when you have that kind of weight
on one game there, it ratches it up intensity and
(37:30):
the intensity is intoxicating.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
That's exactly right. And you know there's obviously like a
care factor each week in each game that you feel
from the players and coaches, right and the fans. And
you know, football will ever lose that. You even have to
go to eighteen games the NFL, they're not going to
lose that. But that's what it is, right, It's the
(37:53):
it's the scarcity of inventory. And you know that each
week for the most probably there's you know, there's things
happen during the season where teams might not, you know,
try as hard the end of the season, but you
know what you're getting. It's a very it's a product
that's very familiar. Which is why I argued that the
NFL international games are fine. You're playing on these other
days is fine, but you can't lose Sunday, right, because
Sunday is very familiar for all of us. We know
(38:14):
what times of games are going to be at. You
play your day around it. And that's what makes the
NFL one of is that they're so great as you
know what, you know what you're getting each week. There's
no surprises of surprises in each game, right, but fundamentally,
no games are at one four, you know, you know eight,
you know, twenty night game eight fifteen whenever. They kind
of move the time by five minutes every year and
(38:35):
you know, got Monday night, Thursday, like, you know what
you're getting.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
And so that is so valuable to the NFL.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
It's it's you know, it's huge.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
You know, it's funny.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
I was talking, we were talking Dami d and I
about the Project Nil about the new proposal which I
think would be great for college football, and that is
to play the bowl.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Games at the start of the year.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
So you would have this whole bowl schedule leading it
like in August, leading into the start of the season,
which would be awesome.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
I love that do so I've always argued that they
should do so basketball. College basketball has like the ACC
Big Ten Challenge, right, they have that in a year. I
have long made the case that the confidence should do that.
Like the Big ten SEC should have a challenge like that.
But just do it football right one verse one two,
verse two, and do it week one or do it
(39:33):
over the first two weeks to season. I think that
would be a hit in college football to do something
like that.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Well, you could do the same thing with the with
the bowl, right if you're moving the balls and you
know we're up against it, so we can kind of
flush that a little bit more. But there's a great
concept that could that. It could be where the fella
is hanging out right here on Fox Sports Radio. Oh,
good morning, good morning, good morning. That'd be happy happy
(39:58):
Fox Sports Saturday, especially to the Knicks and their fans.
One oh five, one oh four last night to stun
the Spurs take a two lead in this series, and
it goes back to New York the Nova Knicks.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
It was. It was that it was just to me
and we'll talk about it more today throughout the show, Jeff.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
But again it goes back to the youth.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I mean, it was clearly that you know, Spurs are
that young team and we've seen this in sports like
that's what it was. It was a bad turnover at
the end. Miss it a miss it a wide open shot. Great, look,
you know, I mean, that's that's youth.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
So one thing we know about NBA champions is they
tend to have to have a little bit of experience
to win, right, they have to have the superstars typically
twenty six years old, right or I an SGA last
year was a little bit younger than we've seen in
the past, but most of the time it's been twenty seven.
You take your your bumps and bruises, you lose in
(41:08):
in kind of miserable ways, and you finally get back
and you make it happen the next year. You after that,
and I think once we saw the Spurs beat the Thunder,
which again is is is unusual given what we've seen
in the NBA passed maybe we all thought ignored, you know,
those those sort of wisdom, the ways that we've seen NBA,
(41:30):
you know, teams win the past, and it's shown the
first two games, the experience of the Knicks. They're they're
a they're not routed right, the first team in the
play by play era to be down by twelve and fourteen,
uh and in respective game one to and win those games, right.
And then last night, specifically the end of game situations
where the Knicks just don't panic, right, they get the
ball to Brunson and he makes he makes a play,
(41:53):
and last night he did. He did miss his last
shot right, but then he got a steal on a
bad pass by Wemby and got fouled and made one
of the two foul shots. And Wenby's like, I mean,
not Wenby. Brun It's like seventeen to fifty nine for
the series. He has not shopped the ball very well,
but in those big moments he's able to make those
plays where the Spurs just really right now and those
big moments aren't making those plays. And it's shown up
obviously in the win loss column. And you know, maybe
(42:16):
they'll figure out in Game three. I don't think so.
This is sort of what they are at this point
of their of their playing careers. And it's really showing
the physicality too, of the Knicks, the older players right,
the physical nature, their effort, their ability to sort of
sense when things you know where they should be in
the court when things are about to happen. It's better
than Spurs right now. It just is. And it's been
(42:39):
very impressive to watch them play. It really has and
they win at four. I don't know, but they have
a two h league going back to Guarden. Men. I know,
I know, I.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
You know.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
It's going to be.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
State the obvious.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
I mean, it's a mountain.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
I don't know how you uh, I don't know how
you react. Now we've seen teams completely melt. I don't
think the Spurs are type of team. So you know,
but the thing about the Knicks during this crazy streak
that has been since April, since they last lost, yeah,
(43:21):
is that they had these crazy shooting nights in the
Garden where they just bury teams and then they went
by fifty. Like We've seen that against the Hawks, we
saw that against the Sixers, and we saw that in
the Eastern Conference finals against Cleveland where they just buried you.
Do they have a game in them like that against
(43:42):
the Spurs and the Spurs come at some point?
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Yeah, you know, you have to imagine that the Josh
Hart five three pointer game has shown up right, the shammit,
you know, you know, five to seven from three point
line is coming at some point. Brun the ball. Well,
that's I've got a few things wrong about the series,
but I've got a couple a couple things, right, and
what was I thought Brunson was going to have a
tough series, the physicality of the Spurs defense. Yeah, just
(44:07):
be in the middle guard and and I thought this
was what Brunson was going to have and it's shown out.
But I didn't expect Kat to play this wall offensively.
He's done a great job right now. He's not the
leader for MVP, which I think he should be. It's
brunts and right now then you know, maybe people assume bruntson.
You know, it's more of like a like the consop
mith right like a whole entire postseason. I don't, I mean,
(44:28):
a fall is not supposed to be like that, but
it does feel like if he's the favorite right now,
it's more.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Well, he did win the game one, I know, but dude,
but catch I don't care. I mean, list a nice game,
and he din's shooting the ball particularly well for the
first three quarters.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
He hit the corner three and the game winning shot
over Wemby.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
I mean, yeah, yeah, well, I mean Kat's what he's
averaging eighteen and a half and fifteen rebounds. He's done
a good job.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
I mean, I'm not I'm not, yeah, I mean and
last night. You know, he lost his.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Mom and I mean it was beautiful, Like he was
very emotional last night, hugged his father at the end.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
I was never the biggest Cat fan, I I really,
you know, like he's played really well, somehow avoided foul
trouble game one, got into a little foul trouble last night,
but was able to stay on the floor in the
fourth and you know, played really well, you know, overcome
with emotion at the end of the game.
Speaker 4 (45:29):
It was beautiful. He's done a great job. And his
defense has been really good on Wemby too. I mean
Webby just for the most part, has not gotten the shots.
I think that that he would like throughout, you know,
throughout the game, and it's it's been an impressive job
by Look, the Knicks have done everything they had to do.
And look, if you're a Spurs fan or you have,
you know, like I do, Spurs to win the championship,
(45:51):
you would think that, you know, if you are glass
half full right on the Spurs. Okay, you're you're up
one with forty second left. Didn't close the game that right,
You're I think you're tied with two minutes left in
Game one, didn't close the game out and Din close
game outs because the Knicks are better closing games out
right now. But maybe you close game three out right
and then you win game three now it's two to one,
(46:12):
and then you survive game four somehow. I mean, there's
there's eight path forward. I think the Spurs are also
young enough to not really care their down to nothing right,
they don't know any better, but also young enough to
not close out games, which really concerns me. Right, I think, look,
(46:32):
do you think it's more likely in the next sweep
or this gets back to like a game six. I
think it's a sweep, right, No, I don't think they sweep.
So they steal one of these two games, yeah.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
I think they went.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
I think the Spurs won on I don't think they sweep.
Speaker 4 (46:47):
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (46:48):
I mean, like, look at this series has been the Knicks.
It's been dead. Even series Game one, the Spurs controlled
up until the end. I mean, you know, the Knicks
going that run at the end of the game. The
Spurs control the whole game. Last night, the Knicks controlled
from the second and after the first second. Yeah, I
(47:11):
mean the Knicks control of the game and then they're
up fourteen in the fourth quarter, Spurs going to run
and they have the ball with a tie with ten
seconds left, the game tied when Webby turned it over.
I mean, that's modo line and they have the great
look at the end of the game to win it.
(47:32):
So like, I don't think it's just sweet. I think
it's I think Spurs get one. I mean I don't know.
I mean I'm not the biggest believer in home court
or home ice.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
I don't think I feel even less about but yeah, yeah,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
I don't. I don't go, oh man, game's there, so
they can't now the obvious is to start the game
like the first quarter is going to be crazy. You
can't lose the game early, right, and you can. You
can't win a game early, but you can lose it early.
You can't. You can't get overwhelmed and just get out
(48:10):
of the game where the Knicks go on one of
those crazy nights and because if you lose Game three,
that wedd and you're probably you know it's gonna be hard.
I think they got a puncher chance in game three.
I think they do too. They just have to be
up what maybe like fifteen with two minutes left, like
not having any Indian situations.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
Yeah, I mean, I get it. It can happen to
be able to close out and look, I think miss Johnson,
I think I think next time he's calling time out
and not letting a turnover happen with ten seconds left.
And I get why they didn't call time out. You
had a fast break, run opportunity right, your opportuny to
get up and down the court. I'm not even pro
time out, like I'm fine with coaches letting the players play,
(48:53):
but that situation, with how young they are, I think
he will regret not calling time out there on the
turnover that wemb had you had one left, you know
you I get they were talking tellcasts about you want
to say that one time out as long as possible
to advance the ball up the court if you had to.
But in situation, you know there's ten seconds left, you know,
just get a play, you know, draw it up, get
(49:13):
get settled, and said the turnover happened again, I don't
think it was the worst say, I think moving forward,
he would call time out of that situation, give them
the opportunity again to get a move the ball up
and get the play you want and look, making game
winning shots is hard, man, whether we just expect everyone
to do it all the time. The numbers are like,
guys make game winning shots like twenty percent of the time. Like,
(49:36):
it's just it's really hard to make game winning shots.
Wenby had a look. I would have wished it was
a little closer than eighteen feet, but he had a look.
He had it there, he's got he's got to make
it off the back iron, try to get a rebound.
Didn't happen in time. Dude. I've been so impressed with
the Knick's rebounding, I mean, their offensive rebounding. They just
want it more. And I get the way that the
(49:58):
Spurs are playing defense. It's it's sort of hard to
box guys out because they're rotating.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
So much the long and you're talking about the long
rebounds two to come off three.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
Yeah, And the part of it is they're trying to
you know, they're trying to figure out a way to
do the double brunts in and they say the second
guy at brunts and that ends up everyone else scrambling
and he can't box out and next have just won
a lot of offensive rebounds and it's gone extra points.
And again there's more things to spurs I think you
do differently. The one that they can't do is just
one if the Knicks are you only have that that
(50:28):
fifty game from three at home and they avoid that. Wemby,
I'm curious what his sort of next moves are here.
He didn't play well for the first half of this game,
rights second half of this game. Very clearly, the Knicks
are making him work a little bit harder on offense
other teams that have in the past. There's still these
(50:51):
twenty two he's still sort of missing I think a
little bit offense when he's one on one isolation. But
they gotta find ways to get him the ball and
better and better spots to get some points. Knicks do
a good job of not allowing that clearly, but they're
still root right thing for san Antonio growing the series. Yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Yeah, totally. I mean again, you're saying the team like
and you're right about like how they rebound the ball.
They got great role players, Like what makes the Knicks good.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
You got og.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
Heart Bridges, right, you got your two stars, but then
you got those three guys are great role players at
what they do. Bridges plays defense, that could score, heart
does everything but score og same thing, rebound will score,
(51:46):
could do anything physical, d up big guys. And then
they got guards off the bench. They could they could score. Right,
and you come off the bench, and you got Deuce
and you got uh, you know, Alvarado and and and.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
Right you got a big like Robinson off the bench.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Right, Like, so you got guys, yeah, like the guys
that play that play the that that Phil rowls like,
they're they're deeper and and you know, Kelvin Johnson's killing them,
killing the Spurs. And I won't say this, one of
their best players like needs to play even more. And
(52:26):
he's another young player. But Harper has been money man.
I love Harper.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
Harper last night He's going to be a superstar in Y.
The way he gets to the basket, Yeah, it's you know,
that's what I think. You think The thing that the
two for one, the shot that bothered me is like
you've had a Harper and Fox I think pretty much
gets the basket when they wanted. It felt like you
could have drawn up a player to get them to
(52:53):
the downhill to the basket and then have Wemby and
everyone crashing And I get you probably don't want if
you're choosing players to take a shot the end Harper,
you know, go into the basket. Maybe not your favorite
of all the options, but he's been so good. The
nixt words foul, trouble that that's really my big gripe
is that that that not the last shot. It's really
the second to last shot. Went behind the two for
(53:13):
one and then said they could have got a better
play in that's it. But again, well behind a shot.
He's made that shot before. Not it's not his bread
and butter shot, but he was there. Mitter Robinson on him,
and again the Spurs were right there. They just they're
not closing the game. I thought when the Spurs came
back that they were winning the game. You know, a
couple of big plays in this game too. The Spurs
fouled three Nicks three point attempts, which you just can't
(53:37):
have this. I think they came up with eight points
on those attempts. The one the review with about three
minutes left where they called it off og, which it was.
They reviewed it called a foul, and it was I
mean that that's a It was ninety seven to ninety seven.
They got on like a fourteen oh run tie the
game up, and then gave og three foul shots, which
again't you just can't.
Speaker 3 (53:56):
Do for the Spurs. You can't horrible foul.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
So far Castle missed the last eight minutes in the
first half because he made he made a dumb foul
a three point attempt. Again, it's some of those. Again,
it's the second quarter. I get it, But the Nicks
wanted to run without Castling there right like that those
plays matter for the entire game. You can't do that
if you're the Spurs. And the review processing the NBA
is so fascinating to me because I think about this.
(54:20):
In the NFL, like the NBA, you can review anything
on the play, right, so like a foul was not
calling the play and they reviewed it called a foul
in the In the NFL, could you imagine if they
were review to play and they're like, we have a holding. Actually,
NFL fans would go will lose their mind that happened.
But for an NBA that's the way they do it. Obviously,
(54:41):
it was a clear foul, so the call was the
correct call in that moment. So dude, series been so
much fun. All of the Spurs were going to take
that one when they came all the way back. They
did their young bad turner of over by. Wemby a
lot to learn for them. Can they can they make
it a game in game three and four? Absolutely, but
it feels like a tall task unlets the figure to
finish these games.
Speaker 2 (55:02):
Yeah, I like, I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (55:04):
They don't have a finisher though, right, Like that's the
thing about Brunson is that they have the Knicks, have
Brunson the Spurs Like it's Wemby, I get it, but
he's not very yet offensively right to like be.
Speaker 2 (55:19):
You got a great look, I mean, you just got
you missed the shot, you know, I know that. I
mean you run a high and you got a wide
open look.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
Like I know, I mean, just okay, if you're if
the game is tied with two minutes left, like, what's
the Spurs offense? Right, It's pick and roll and then
then try to you know, sort of spread out and
get some of the guys in the corner. I think
they just have better offense in those moments, right that
that's sort of I thought, well, you are missing that.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
But look at the shot of difficulty for Brunson that
he had to win the game when he won game one,
he makes him why know, but look, but look at
the difficulty of this shot. First of all, the corner
contested three didn't touch the rim, all right, and then
(56:12):
he comes back with uh a jabstat attack step back
over Wemby Like it was ridiculous, right, Like, I mean
that shots The level of difficulty for that shot is
(56:32):
off the charts.
Speaker 3 (56:33):
And he made it.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
And again that was another one that just didn't even
touch the rim.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
So he had that he Butts had that one lay
up two where he kind of like awkwardly shot it
and just he just finger rolled it like eight feet
over the basket and just went right into like didn't
even touch the rim. It just he's been he's been good.
His dad by the like coming off the bench like
defend him with like I was like, Pops, I get it, man,
(56:59):
I get it. But like your your boy can can
fight for himself. I thought it was funny.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
Yeah, well you know he listen, I get it.
Speaker 4 (57:08):
He keeps all the way down the bench like like
Tony Brothers about to tea him up, Like he came
all the way to off the bench. That was a
functioning because Brunton obviously unfazed by anyone tried to talk
in his face.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Yeah, no, he's tough, dude.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
Man.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
The kids in Philly, Philly, tough.
Speaker 4 (57:25):
Philly, gotta bring back to Philly. Well, I mean, you know,
I mean championship and we're gonna bring him back to Philly.
I just said, well, I just told you where he's from.
What do you want from me? It's part of his toughness. Sorry,
if they don't make him like I Eugene, I'm not
from Eugene.
Speaker 5 (57:40):
I know you.
Speaker 3 (57:41):
I just want I had to throw it out there.
I mean we're the California Preste looking over to grapes.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
Yeah, I drove along pch every day for high school.
I am definitely spoiled, but uh, you know, developed to
two NFL offensive linement, aren't. My school is like weirdly
kind of interesting. We have a lot of celebrities going
to my high school. Mitch and I are like the
fiftieth most popular former Palisades Dolphins, even though we both
(58:11):
by the NFL for seventeen years combined. That's crazy, right,
Like from my high school, like we're like not even
in the top top who's your top five or top three?
Like athletes are just like are just people. So Steve
Kerr is a forest whitaker. I love for Genie Buss
(58:35):
And so those are.
Speaker 5 (58:36):
Three paper people.
Speaker 3 (58:39):
Those are a lot of paper people.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:41):
Oh yeah, there's like the l M F A O
like both both of the of the uh red fu
and it's red food right, yeah, they're both from there,
Kiki Vandaway.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (58:56):
It's all the top of my head. I'm just thinking
of like all the people. You can go Wikipedia page.
There's a lot. Yeah, a lot of a lot of dolphins. No,
so Mitch and I are like like, we're like not
even I'm probably not even like the top ten. My
brother went Super Bowl, so like the top ten alum
of our school. Yeah, wow, that's wild. May ask the
(59:19):
first first you know, female exact gave NFL history for
the Raiders like that. Yeah. A lot of dolphins, yeah,
high school. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (59:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
By the way, all the Nova guys went to Villanova.
All the Knicks guys went to Villanova.
Speaker 4 (59:37):
I'm aware of trusted me. You've only attended you haven't
heard about the Nova Knicks. So it's obviously it's hard
and Brunson. Who else is the other one? Is the Bridges, Yes, okay,
those three right, yeah, And it used to be yes,
it used to be which his name? We went to
(59:57):
Minnesota the Guard Oh my god, yes, Dante. And so
it was all for him at one point.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
To tell you what kind of quach Jay Wright was,
Oh yeah, great coaches of all time?
Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
Oh yeah, retired early, didn't want to deal with the
NL Like, yeah, no, no, I tell you a funny
story real quick. So there was always rumors when he
was at Villanova. Oh my god, the rumors Kentucky. I
mean you name it right, like he was going everywhere,
(01:00:38):
the Knicks, the NBA and then the NBA thing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
You remember when there his name was like he's going
to the NBA, He's going to the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
I mean not specifically, but I know every year they
talked about like it was a big deal.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Like one of the years it was like a big deal.
So I texted Now he had told me he wasn't going.
So I texted him and I dude, you're not you
sure you're not going?
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Like you gotta you know. I'm trying to get the story.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
And he's like, call me right, So I called him
and he goes, I'm gonna tell you one time, I
got no interest in coaching in that league, all right,
I told you this before. I'm not and like Jason's
sweetest guy, like the nicest guy in the world. Right,
but he took he had a little bit of a
(01:01:27):
town like he was tired. Even so he's like, he's like, dude,
you remember that I was on the Olympic team and
I got to chase the coaching those kids, those guys,
I got no I got no interest in doing it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
I got no interest. He's a teaching right, Like he's
one of those guys.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
He likes the and the idea that at I l
you can't you can't go from year to year was
that was his I'm done, like I'm not doing it
because he liked to build a program that sustains he
what he wants. National championship was in the mix every year.
(01:02:05):
It's because he had a whole system, a fear system
that went from you play you freshman, sophomore, junior, junior
goes to the NBA replenished by the freshman, and it
was the cycle and then it ended and that was that.
And so he wanted nothing to do with the NBA.
(01:02:25):
But all his players go out and do it well.
So they're a tough team. Man, They're a tough team.
We'll come back. I want to switch up a little bit.
Big news in.
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
The NFL this week.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
The Rams get nasty and the Eagles and Patriots finally
did the deal, so we'll discuss them, not even talking
about it. Where the Fellas right here, Jeff Schwartz, Anthony
Gargana right here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, Fellas
(01:02:59):
and Jeff hanging out with you guys. Hey, big week
in the league. Miles Garrett comes Ram. I mean, what
an incredible move. Their defense now includes Miles Garrett. They
(01:03:19):
got McDuffie, which was their their weeklink last year was secondary.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
You got McDuffie.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
You also get Watson, so you get the chief secondary
and you got Miles Garrett. Yeah, you still got Kobe Turner.
You still their defense is pretty ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (01:03:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:03:39):
I'll tell you what, if you wanted to address areas
of weakness, I'm not sure you could do a better job.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
The areas of weakness, God Let's needs unbelievable are areas
of weekness heading this offseason, or.
Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
Pass rushing and cornerback because as we saw last year,
they blew lot of games late, right, because they were
not able to get stops. They weren't able to get
off the field. And that's just what the team was.
And and so you know, the winner is that the
Internet is what it is. But one of the reason
that I just hate the Internet sometimes that you point
out like that the Rams address their needs, right. They
got a quarterback and an all Pro Tred McDuffie, and
(01:04:17):
they got the best pass rusher in the NFL, Miles Garrett.
For people like their actual week, there's a special teams.
I'm like, you can't it. There's those you'll draft one
smuch teams player like those teams is a conglomerate of
a lot of players. And guess what, having better football
players overall makes such teams better, Miles Garrett. Trying to
block a field goal makes your field goal team, your
field goal block team much better, right. Trey McDuffie having
(01:04:39):
to play on a gunner or not a gunner, he
you know he'd play, you know, he'd be the guy,
the guy guarding the gunner. I don't even know what
position you would call that on special teams like those guys.
Every starter in the NFL typically plays one special teams
right in the back ups play all of them. So
getting Trent McDuffie and Watson and Miles Garrett and drafting
a tight end in the second round makes as much
(01:05:00):
he was better. Right. They have done an incredible job
addressing those positions of need, and I think the Rams
I thought they were a favorite heading to last season.
I backed off a little bit because we saw, you know,
a lot of news obviously at Matt Stafford not playing
in the preseason with a back injury. He seemed obviously
was fine, But dude, they were one game away from
(01:05:23):
the from the Super Bowl last year, and you'd argue
they were even a play away from hosting right the
after championship games. Then it went to Seattle because of
that two point conversion, They're right there and they got
better that you either get better or worse, and they
got so much better this offseason it's hard to even
put into NFL history. Adding Miles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, Jalen
(01:05:47):
Watson to a team that's already a Super Bowl favorite
wan a move by them. FM picks man, I love
it going forward with Matt Stafford. Don't which three three
number one picks and years and they wasted one of
them in time Simpson. They could have drafted the only
thing you worried about, like I don't know what you
(01:06:09):
know what the Pukah situation is going to be, so,
which is why they should drafted, you know, Mkai Lemon,
but like yeah, someone but correct, that's a situation worth
monitoring as he you know, you know, guess he was
rehapen and whatnot, so that's worth monitoring. Obviously, vout Adams
a year older, right as well, and you worry about that.
(01:06:30):
That's why I thought wide received was just right there
for them to take.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Yeah, I mean it almost. I was shocked because it
felt to him and now it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Feels even worse, like like you're going for it this year, right.
And I've heard the argument that Rams spent the pick
on ty Simpson because they want to back up, right
if you missed off it for months, But like side
to Kobe Burst, like you could have done, there are
options right to make that happen, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
I mean that was the hurts you know, insurance policy
heard our second round pick.
Speaker 4 (01:06:58):
It feel different if the Rams spent second round pick
on a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
People, I agree with you. I I you know, I
felt the same thing. I felt you had to go Lemon.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
He's the perfect fit with Stafford with that offensive how's
he looking so far in Philly? I've been paying at
I mean, you know, I mean it's so ta. So
I did see a video Jaylen Carter looks really good.
I saw like a local clue. Well, he's healthy, like
his shoulders are fixed. So that's yeah, that's a big deal.
But so the Rams, dude, I mean I took her.
(01:07:27):
I mean, it's so it's amazing. They are clearly, like
clearly the favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:07:34):
Oh yeah, I took him. I took him immediately to
win the Super Bowl. I'll tell you why. I obviously
the reasons we just mentioned. But I I I think
Aaron Donald will come back and play too.
Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
You already said it, right, Like, I just lean in
that way.
Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
So yeah, I just think that. You when you have
a player like that who retired a little early, he's
still in great shape. Obviously, this is like red meet
for him, right, Like he doesn't he can come back
in week eight and just get in shape for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
He won't be double teamed. Can you imagine Aaron Donald
sar Donald and Miles Garrett on the same line.
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
What on the same side, they could be on the
same side.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
One of them is getting open, one of them has
a free rush.
Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
I mean not free rush.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
They're gonna be a handful man. And then you got
lockdown guys in the secondary. Yeah, Like McDuffie's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
And Watson is really good too, by the way, they're
both behind.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
But McDuffie is I've talked to Steve st He was like, uh,
bags is yeah, back then roll sleeves up.
Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Donah Well. I did a podcast our day. We talked
about breakout players on defense. I know Williams. I think
I'll be a break up player for the Chiefs. That's
beginning of the Weeds obviously of the Chiefs roster, but
like that's what the Chiefs do. He'll be great for them.
But it's not Watson. He's not McDuffie's So like, the
Rams have just done a great job. Saffag guys. They
healthy obviously got to finish out games a little bit better.
But you know, one thing about having a veteran team
(01:09:02):
like this and team that's won suero before is they
know the pace of the season. Right, that's important to
understand what you what you need from your team in
week one, week seven, week sixteen, right, they know the
pace of the season. Yeah, and that's and maybe with
Miles Garrett and McDuffie, like you have less stressful end
of game situations because you're just up by more, right, Like,
(01:09:23):
it's a lot different for an offense, obviously, for Matt
Stafford to spend the final four minutes of a game
running the ball at replay first, trying to you know,
go down the film score touchdown because your defense gave
up another late touchdown, right, or your special team is
better this year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Because and they always were, they loved well, they were
forced to kind of play that clock game. And what
happens is, like you said, you know, it's almost like
you're playing mad and like you feel like you have
a ninety percent chance you're going to score. But now
you've gotta worry about clock because it's like I don't
(01:09:57):
want to go too for one, right, Like man, basically
you gotta worry about like the other team getting the ball.
I mean that was always what it was. And so
you know there are times when you're running on second
down and you probably should throw it still and then
he gave up the down and the next thing you know,
you don't score, you're setting for a field goal.
Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
And now you can be more aggressive because you're your
defense of your back. So either Rams are easily right
now the favorite. And look think about too. I think Seattle.
I really do believe offensively they're gonna step back without
Kubiak there. I think we saw that with the lines
last season. Like I have a first time play caller
from the forty nine ers. Maybe he's fine, maybe he's not.
(01:10:38):
I don't know yet, but I just know he won't
be Kubiak. So the Rams will turned Obviously McVeigh is
their play caller. They have a much better roster. You'll
go on the rest of the NFC. I'm really high
on the Cowboys this year. I think you are too,
But they're not the Rams at the moment. You know,
Philly's not the Rams of the moment. You know, there's
some teams in North that are. They're quite interesting as well,
But the Rams to me a clear favorite right now.
(01:11:00):
That all every the checklist, right, the quarterback, the coach,
pass rusher, the secondary.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
One question it's going to be and we'll say it
a thousand times in Stafford's health.
Speaker 4 (01:11:13):
And I think it's also just like poopo akuas you know,
if he's yeah and so yeah, it's it's uh, it's
a great trade. I mean, let's what a job look
And for Cleveland. I actually like it for Cleveland too, right, Like,
you're not gonna win championship with Miles Garrett and by
the time you even get good, before before you even
(01:11:37):
you know, you won't be good for a couple of years. Now,
just like get better, you know Garrett, by the time
you're good, probably not the same player. So get as
much as you can for him moving forward. And yeah,
I think it's a trade that works for I get
Brown fans will be upset about it. I get it,
But you know you're right. I mean, you're wasting the
best years you got to move draft and you know
(01:12:00):
you got a big haul from Ales Garrett. So I
think that's a trade that it's worth worth it for
the Browns and both teams win here totally.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
Yeah, I say the same way.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
All right, how do you see the other trade, the
one that everyone thought would happen actually happened?
Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Yeah, did aj Brown?
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
We'll talk about this on the other side, did aj
Brown achieve football heaven by going to New England, which
he said in his press conference. We'll talk about that
fellas on Fox Welcome back to the Fellas, Jeff Schwartz,
anything he go, I got no hanging out right here
(01:12:42):
on Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
Radio talking on a lot of the finals.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
But the big news in the NFL this week, the
big trades, Miles Garrett, we just covered inn A. J.
Brown been a long time coming. I think it was
months ago. I go, yeah, Jeff, he's gonna go to
the Patriots US, But it took a minute for it
to have and it finally did. The Eagles and Patriots
(01:13:09):
make the deal. The Eagles get a fifth round pick
next year and a first round pick in twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Depending on which fan base you listen to, who is
upset with the compensation. Eagles don't think. Eagles fans don't
think they got enough. Patriots fans said they gave up
too much. So interesting they didn't get a first for
next draft. Right, it's at the first twenty eight and
twenty eight.
Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
I'll tell you what, man, I know the internet isn't
great for this, but there's you know there's a little
some editing clips of AJ Brown talking about his time
in Philly. I gotta think Eagles are happy he's gone mad.
And I know, I know you want to keep him
just because he's such a talented player, but it just
seems like when a player is just it's just out right,
(01:13:58):
they gotta go. And he seemed like he is so
out of the Eagles, and kind I kind of worry
about that in New England for him, right, Like, things
are pretty good in Philly. I get it. You might
not have been friendly with Jalen Hurts as much as
you were when you first got there, and maybe you
didn't love the offense, but you win a lot of
football games. Man, you win a super Bowl. If you're
(01:14:20):
not happy winning a super Bowl, so you're gonna be
happy not when the super Bowl then will? I gets
you you think you're gonna win Super Bowl. I sting
understand that, but I kind of think this is a
win for Philly. Like you can have a guy that
that that seemingly just wasn't happy on a winning team,
which is like, so really.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
You know what's weird, dude, is that, I mean you
talk to any buy in that room they love AJ,
They love Aj.
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
They he's a bad person.
Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
I just I just know that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
But but it's but it's kind of antithetical, right when
you see a guy that is kind of acting selfishly, right, Like,
I mean, you know, there is a degree selfishness. Now
it's also makes him great, but it's a degree selfishness
that says, hey, I'm not happy winning. I need to
(01:15:16):
win and you know, look at my numbers and try
to be a Hall of Famer. I mean, I get
that you want to be a Hall of Famer and everything,
but like, by the way, is Drake, Like are you
going there to is Drake May?
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
Football Heaven? Like all of a sudden, Drake May is Mahomes.
Maybe it's a Raybel thing. He likes playing with Rabel
in Tennessee and he wants to go back to play
with Rabel.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
Well, I know he loves Rabel.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
But again, it's all about the genesis of his happiness
came out to the how the offense was and how
he was being used in his volume, Like he's upset
that they went to a conservative offense. I'm upset that
he does a giant with Jalen on the fields that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:59):
I'm Upset said the one conservative offense. Look, I am,
I really understand why wide receivers are divas. Right. It's
a position that basically requires one on one, right, It's
you versus the cornerback. Right, It's very like outfits linees.
Not that way really the rest of the NFL cornerback
and wide receiver. I totally get why you're divas. Right.
(01:16:20):
It's a very sort of selfless position, right, and you
do need the quarterback to get to the ball to
get your stats. Right. But at some point though, you
have to sort of put that aside to win football games.
Speaker 5 (01:16:32):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
And it's and he's choosing essentially himself over being on
a team that's been winning for so many years, and
that feels like ultimately the wrong decision in the end.
I again, I'm pro wide receivers being divas. I totally
get it. I'm not against that idea. But I think
the best wide receiver is sort of find a way
(01:16:52):
to sort of do do both of those things, right,
you know, be you know, be you know selfish. You
have to be selfish to be good as a wide receiver,
in my opinion. But all to understand you know that
that the team is very important. I get he's frustrated
with the offense, but they brought in a new offense
coordinator who, in theory, their offense has easy yards, has
easy completions. Right, it's a lot different than the offense
(01:17:13):
that Eagles were running. So I'm I'm fascinated by this
from the new England side. I totally get it. You
needed someone like a J. Brown to help you out.
I saw I saw something where someone ESPN said like, oh,
this is now an unsemble offense. No, it's not.
Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Why do we dude?
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
You know what's frustrating about the sports media. Stop with
fresh sports media. It's like everything is everything is everything
is always good, like every one of these these these
shows like everything's the best ever, it's the best.
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
I'm like, no, it's not.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Why why wan to be the best ever? It's a
good trade for them, but it's not the It's the
offensive line is the question mark. I think running backs
are fine, they're not great. The tight end is not.
They don't supposed to tight end there. But also too,
like like Boutan's fine, is the number two? It's not okay.
It's like your wide receiver room is the best NFL either.
Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
I got to.
Speaker 4 (01:18:07):
I mean, Dobbs is your number two, right, I guess
Dobbs are number two. I don't feel great about Dobbs.
I I just it's their offense is better with Brown.
But it's not some unsolvable force. I just I don't
why we do this, Why do we do this? Why
do we get on TV and say things like this,
this is not true? So nonetheless I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
I like I look at them and go, well, obviously
they got better, they needed to get better, and Drake
will get better and it helps the quarterback. But you know,
they got to protect, like that's why they lost the
Super Bowl and the way they did correct.
Speaker 4 (01:18:38):
But I I like the draft pick Albomu, who might
not play this year though, right because Morgan Mosa is
there in Campbell's there. But yeah, they and their schedules
a thousan times harder this season.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
That matters, Yeah, which is why they wanted to keep
the twenty day That which is why they wanted to
keep the twenty seventh pick at all costs. Yes, you know,
so you you you keep that pick. But yeah, there
is a was always hyperbole. Oh the greatest ever, you know,
the greatest ever.
Speaker 3 (01:19:05):
This is what it is, all right, big Alb. We're
coming up next where the Fellas on Fox.
Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
Well, good morning, good morning, good morning, happy happy Fox
Sports Saturday, Saturday June and the sixth where the Fellas
and Jeff hanging out with you on a beautiful Saturday morning.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
After the next take care of business.
Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
What a game in case you just joined us, We've
been talking a lot about it obviously, and just how amazing,
amazing it was last night. What a night last night
in Santi Antonio Wemby, he showed his youth. That was it.
(01:19:50):
It was all about the youth. He has the band turnover.
After the whole they get to stop. They need they're
going on the floor, sloppy pass off the back of
the National. Next thing, you know, brunts get Castle, get
(01:20:10):
next thing, you know, brunts and foul gets fouled. Wenby
fouls Bronson and then they run the high pick and roll.
Webby's got a great look like elbow extended and he
just misses.
Speaker 4 (01:20:25):
Yeah. What a what a serious so far, two incredible games,
two different endings, right, but still the same theme is
is true, is that the Nicks they're poise their physicality,
their ability to sort of get what they need in
a given moment is better than the Spurs right now.
(01:20:47):
And that's where the experience of the Knicks is really showing,
right for years and years and years. And this is
how true we've talked about. You know, NBA champions need
to have some seasoning, right, they need to have be
a certain age for the most part. Right, your superstar
tip is twenty six and older. It was twenty seven
until until Shave won last year. And you know it
shows in those big moments. It shows when Wemby gets
(01:21:10):
the rebound and I get while he was passing it
to Castle, but Castle wasn't looking at him and it
wasn't a great pass. And you know you, I know
Webby is not often bringing the ball up like that,
but you had ten seconds left. I get why Castle
was like, okay, let's go, like we got a fast break,
let's make it happen.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
And then the fact I don't understand why Theydy cold
time out. But I've always been more of a time
out guy.
Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
Than a well I'm a timeout guy. If you have
a team full of twenty two year olds, like if
you have the Knicks, I let the next play that
out and like get the ball to brunts in and
let him go. I absolutely look the next player that
went out, But you have a twenty two year old team,
like call time out, get him set up.
Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
Yeah, like I always, I always prefer time. I mean,
I understand the other theory, which is, you know, guys
aren't back and you can get it. Sometimes a much
easier look if you're just gonna go run it out.
And that was a Larry Brown thing from back in
the day. I get it, but you know, it just
killed me. The interesting part of these two games is
(01:22:15):
that Games one in Games two were like carbon copies,
except it was Spurs controlling most of Game one. The
Knicks go on the epic run to win it, and
the Knicks controlled after the first quarter, controlled the whole game,
up fourteen and the fourth Spurs go on that crazy
(01:22:36):
run but they can't finish.
Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
They win the next finished.
Speaker 4 (01:22:40):
I mean, I thought for sure that this was going
to be a Knicks win when they I mean, do
a Spurs win. They get in ninety seven ninety seven right.
They then foul og right on a three point of ten,
but again was a silly foul. Spurs did this three
times in this game where they fouled a three point
shooter with no reason to do so. One was the
end of the shot clock where I think it was
(01:23:02):
you know it was Alvarado who got fouled by Castle.
Castle did it another time. Just not good basketball from them,
but they make it work. And then Webby has that
had that drive to finish and the and one, and
you're like, this is it. This is that the Spurs
are taking this game. And then then they didn't and
then they you know, they they got what they wanted
in the two for one. I didn't love the first
(01:23:24):
shot and the two for one, but.
Speaker 5 (01:23:26):
So be it.
Speaker 4 (01:23:27):
They got the ball back with ten seconds left, with
opportunity to win the game, they throw the ball away
and then look, it's not talked about a lot but
the foul. But Weby didn't have to foul Brunson either,
just stand there just getting his way b seven to five.
Instead he just runs and bumps.
Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
Into him and wow, yeah, I mean he was panicked.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
He just packed.
Speaker 4 (01:23:43):
Yeah, but if you watch, if you watched the play,
Brunton had the balls no reason, so like you knew
that you were you know, you didn't have to found
but a yet you found them Brunton makes only one
to two, they get the ball back and then of
course he misses again. You've maybe convinced me a little
bit that that was a better play than I thought,
because I think that they need to go downhill. But
he did have an open open Look, you missed it,
(01:24:04):
and that's the ball game. Look, if you want to
be a glass half empty guy for the Knicks, it's
for the Spurs. It's like we just blew two games
at home. There's no chance glass half full. You say
we're up one with ninety seconds left, and then game two,
we're tied with it two minutes left, and like we're
right there, gott to finish, and there's Brunson is not shot.
(01:24:26):
Was I think he's seventeen to fifty nine. He's doing
a good job getting the line. He's making big shots
when it matters the most. There's a lot more for
the Spurs to get better at right offensive rebounding, correct
defensive rotations. I think I would just would double brunts
and seems to be killing them right now. Webby's got
to play better. They got to shoot better as a team.
Castle gotta stop turning the ball. Like there's so many
(01:24:46):
things that Spurs can do better. The question is are
they going to do those things? I don't think so,
Like this is what matters. And then you go to
an emotionally charged building the way the garden will be,
you know, it takes it to a lot of level.
So to your point, let's go, let's kind of relive
this for a second. So Harper has that little floater
to tie the game at ninety seven with three minutes
(01:25:11):
to go. Yes, then they had the Knicks challenge to call.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
They saw the foul where Champagny fouls Og on the
three point attempt. That's her foul, right, So stupid, stupid
foul right. That makes it one hundred to ninety seven.
Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
That was huge.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Wemby comes back to make it a one point game
and then Og misses, and then like the horrible turnover
by the by, the Spurs gives the Knicks to the
ball again and then it's one O two ninety nine.
(01:25:54):
After Brunton makes the layout right, Wemby miss has a
good look, misses a three. Then Bronson misses his shot,
and then Harper makes an I love Harper. Harper makes
another dribble drive where he scores one O two one
on one with the goaltending by cat right, then they
(01:26:15):
get to steal. Harper gets to steal off of Bridges
and when Bianna has the layoup right, so we they're
up one. Then they get the fat he makes the
free throat so on the three point play. So it's
one oh four, one oh two, fifty second, seventh seconds left. Bronson,
(01:26:37):
who is just absurd, right like, and this is what
the Spurs lack. I mean, the Spurs lack one thing.
Jalen Brunson, right, the guy that can make every big
shot the closer. He ties the game, right, Yeah, he
ties the game with that thirteen foot step back. It's
(01:26:58):
one oh four, one o four with forty seconds to go.
Then Wenby misses. That was the two for one, sure,
yeah right, sixteen footer contested he misses, and then you know,
and that was the game, right Like, you come back
(01:27:19):
and Brunson missed, Webby gets to rebound.
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
And the turnover and then you know, we know what's happened.
Speaker 4 (01:27:26):
So they're right there. I think there. I think they're
young enough to really not let this kill them. I
think older teams this might be a problem. So like
we'll see what they look like Game three, they're not
going to stop trying, right but the garden on Monday
night's gonna be one of the best amastaurs we've seen
in sports history. Yes, you know we talked about earlier.
They get in prices like ten grand just for like
(01:27:49):
you know, the war. See in the house, it's going
to be a zoo. On top of that, the President's
going to be there, so that the presence of him
is going to make this different dynamic as well in
the crowd. If you're going the game, get there much
or and you think security is going to be incredibly crazy.
There there's a vibe in the garden that's just almost unmatched.
(01:28:10):
I remember, I think that for you know, for me,
it reminds me a lot of the form, you know,
like just like the vibe in there, it's just unmatched
NBA right now, there's nothing like that, nothing like MSG
when it's when it's rolling in all the NBA and
it's just gonna be The Spurs have got to not
let that bother them early in this game. They have
(01:28:33):
to find a way to not let the Knicks go
on the run. They've had at some point in these
last two games where the Spurs just look offensively completely
out of sorts. And part of that is when Weby's out.
I get that. I think when Wenby's out, the ball's
got to go through Harper, right, like just when he's out,
Harper's gotta gotta be the kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
That's kind of been what's been happening. And I just
think they're one player short, right, They need a veteran.
You need a guy that.
Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
Could that's like, is that supposed to be Harrison Barnes
or he was just that? Just nah nah? And you
know Fox, well, I think it's supposed to be Fox,
to be honest with you. Fox is better yesterday than
he has but he's still still missing that like eight
foot jump shot. Yeah, you know often, but he shot.
Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
At like I like Champagny, but he's a younger player
and sho geddy, he came from nowhere, right, like any
like a veteran guy that could make you create your
own shot, could score it and like you look at Champagne, right,
and eight points in the first half earlier, probably the
first quarter. He had eight points in the first quarter. Yeah,
(01:29:37):
and then he didn't score it. Only took maybe a
shot or two after that. Yeah, he's gonna he's gonna
get the ball out more. The thing that I think
for the Spurs you have to worry about is is
your You have not seen the Knicks make fifty five
percent of threes game yet you know Josh Harden doesn't
have the five for eleven game.
Speaker 4 (01:29:54):
Yet that's gott to terrify you. You've got two games
at home and you have shot the ball terribly well,
that's simply when you do that right, and you go
back on the road or going on over the first time, like,
that's where role players typically aren't as good.
Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
It's more where the other way around, where Shammet and
and and Alvarado and and all their guys, right, are
the ones that make the plays? You know, Johnson, I
will say this non existent either, which is kill them.
You're right now, I will say this. The hope for
the Spurs is that listen.
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
I mean when they went on those epic runs to
those blowouts, they played those mutt teams, right, like the
Haulks or Mutt team.
Speaker 3 (01:30:39):
Sixers are a mutt team. And Cleveland's delusional.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
Right, like the coach thinking they're analytically won three games
and things. You play good defense like they're delusional.
Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
I mean, they're they're they're two up heard in the
in the in the finals.
Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
Right, But my point is that I know it's crazy,
and my point is that the Spurs they're not like that.
They have a good DNA, right, like not those teams
that the Knicks crushed. So I don't think they get blown.
Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
Out unless the unless the Knicks have that game, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Yeah, I sort of saying I don't think they get
blown out in the game, like, I don't think they
get I don't think that there's a I don't think
they're winning by forty like they did against those other
slop teams. Yeah, I will the Spurs quit. I think
the Spurs got good DNA, Spurs played good defense. Listen,
(01:31:45):
Nicks may win and may sweep, but I don't think.
I don't think they go embarrassed San Antonio. I don't
think that happens. I would agree with you as someone
who some Spurs tickets. I'd love for this gup at
San Antonio and maybe sell some of them off, like
I love like to like give me two to two
(01:32:07):
and I'll call cash out probably or I'll bet the
other side and figure out a way to get out
of it. It's so funny because, like you know, I
thought that this series would be a lot different. Then
I made some like future waiters that for like serious
props of that I are going right, and Kat leading
a rebounder in this series. He's leading rebounder by far
so far. I took Champenny over Brunson for most threes made.
(01:32:29):
That's going well so far. But then just the spurs
of not I just hunts said.
Speaker 4 (01:32:35):
Obviously, to look back on this, I I just didn't
value the principle of of of a the Knicks analytically,
we're playing great. They did want Their net rating the
playoffs is unbelievable and and their historic nature of blowing
these teams out in the playoffs is incredible. Right, it's historical.
I thought that would end, and I just didn't take
(01:32:56):
you in the consideration the youth factor, Right, I thought
Wemby was gonna be was able to overcome that. They
won Game seven on the road against Oklahoma City. Yeah,
I thought that was a game that ended that idea
that they're too young. But look, it's fair to say
Oklahoma City didn't have Jayalen Williams didn't have you know
Mitchell chet Holmgrend was a no show and the Knicks
don't have that. The NIXT everyone's showing up for the
next right, they're all they're all playing, and they're all
(01:33:18):
giving effort. And I'm looking forward to Game three. It's
been a great series so far. I don't I don't
want my position with the Spurs. I'll tell you that
I think this is going to be Obviously, you know,
are they winning four next five? Probably not? Can they
win a couple shirt? I think they could be competitive
in a couple of these.
Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
Yeah, yeah, all right, Uh, listen, I want to go
football a little bit, okay, and uh, one of the
things that I had discussed this week, I don't get
all the love for certain teams through through which team.
A lot of love for the Packers. There's a lot
(01:33:59):
of love for the Ravens and the Bills.
Speaker 4 (01:34:02):
Oh okay, can we can we do Packers first?
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:34:05):
Okay, I don't get buddy the Packers to me. I
say this every year. Okay, when you look at a
good team. We talked about the Rams earlier, right, think
about all that what I call game wreckers on the Rams,
Like guys, you're like this guy Matt I if Stafford
goes off like we're losing, right, if Pukkua, if Miles Garrett,
(01:34:27):
if Trent McDuffie, now right, you know, maybe you maybe
you maybe maybe you take you know, any consideration. You
know some of the other guys. The Packers don't scare
you at all. They don't have any of those guys.
Give zero of those guys. Michael Parsons one.
Speaker 5 (01:34:44):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (01:34:45):
What one guy that like really really worries you.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
I great a quarterback doesn't worry me. I like him,
but he's too up and down.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Love does nothing for me. I don't get it. Like
he's one of those guys that you know analytics, you know,
E p A and CPOE and all that stuff, like
he's gonna grade well every game. If I am I'm
a Chiefs fan, if I'm playing the Packers right, as
a Chiefs fan, I'm not all concerned Jordan Love's gonna
(01:35:17):
go down win the game. No, I'm just not at all.
No matter how bad the Chiefs are playing, I think
Mahomes can win the game, right, Yes, like that? That
to me is that the Packers are probably gona win
ten games again, They're probably gonna just do what they do, right,
They'll win the ten games, but come postseason time, they
don't scare me at all. They just paid Christian Watson.
(01:35:38):
Parsons is important, right, but they played better when Parsons
was healthy and gout in the full of the things there,
he's gonna be an important piece for them. The rest
of them just does not scare me at all. They're
not a scary team. That's what job, you know. Sure,
but like Jacobs also might have to deal with that
suspension at some point, right, Like he might not be
there for eight games at some point this season. So it's, uh, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
That's part of the talking, you know, believe all this love.
Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
I don't get San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
There's a lot of sanfran one of.
Speaker 4 (01:36:12):
The Sisco, mostly because I think we think we think
we know, I mean, has a great coach. They've won
three They've won a ton of games with him there.
I mean, they're not as good as the Rams or Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (01:36:23):
There's a lot of milde on McCaffrey.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
Yeah, he's he's got the the you know every year
that kind of calves and Achilles out for a couple
of weeks or not out, but you know there's some
talking about him missing some weeks and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
So you like the wide receiver situation.
Speaker 4 (01:36:41):
Not necessarily, No.
Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
No, no, I love Kittle. I mean, I mean, you
know again, and I love the coach. Coach is great.
Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
But man, they're very They're very top heavy. Like you like,
they're very top heavy, which is what they've had a
problem with for a long time now is the top end.
I get David bad luck, injuries. Their whole defense was
just remember last schedule was super easy, right, That's why
I look at them to have a good season. But
I understand, I look, Shanahan has done a lot more
(01:37:12):
with a lot less than Green Bay has, right, Like,
that's why I think there's at least a lot I know,
But I.
Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
Look at both of them teams. I go, I'm not,
I'm not, I'm not in press. I don't think that
they're you know, after the Rams, there's the teams to watch.
And I was having this argument and everybody and their
mother tells me how the Bears are going to regress.
I got news for you. Chicago's good. Yeah, Johnson is
(01:37:38):
the real deal. The quarterback is good. I love the quarterback.
I love Williams.
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Little Madden Kurse situation here, Williams, I didn't think with
the Bears is that it's just as much as we
try to fight this every off season. And I have
certainly been someone who has fought this idea that you know,
the the regression is not coming in the one score games.
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
It does.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
And the Bears won a lot of games last year
they should have won. But calla Williams is going to
be better, right, he complete more passes. That said, the
defense is better. They might not play as many close
games this season, right, They might not have to play in,
you know, in all those close games.
Speaker 2 (01:38:12):
Because the regressive thing doesn't take into account the team
getting better.
Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
No, I agree, No, I I like, maybe they play
in only six close games this year, or not ten
or whatever they played in last year. The NFL is
sort of built to be that way the Bears. To me,
if you're buying stock in the team long term, it's
the Bears, right, you have to coach. I think the
front off has done a really good job, Caleb Williams.
I mean, think about how Goody was last year. Completed
like fifty eight percent of passes. Imagine he complete sixty
four percent of passes or sixty five what it will
(01:38:39):
be as a quarterback. So the Bears excite me a
lot this season as a team that you know again
just continue to grow on what they were last year.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Yeah, yeah, I love them And in the NFC, like
all this ravings love are how do we know that
is lamar finx? Like is he is that offense fixed?
Not played well last year? And I love him?
Speaker 4 (01:39:05):
The thing I always sort of pushed back on some
times and I was wrong a little bit maybe last
year with Ben Johnson on this is like the hot
the hot coaching higher like you know Mint, oh my god,
he's gonna be the best head coach of all time.
It's like do we know that we think we might
think that. It feels like those hires a lot of
times just aren't as good as as they end up
as we think they're going to be. Now, Ben Johnson
certainly putd me wrong last year. I thought it was
(01:39:26):
a little bit of skepticism on on Ben Johnson, like, hey,
you told me it's gonna be really good, We'll see,
and he ended up being really good. So I always
pushed back a little bit on those teams.
Speaker 3 (01:39:35):
Wasn't a great coach, you know, the best coach ever.
Speaker 4 (01:39:38):
Know, Lamar has got to play better, right, and you
know he's got their offensive line they're trying to fix
in Baltimore, which is important.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
I just don't think how long until Derek Henry goes.
Speaker 4 (01:39:48):
I mean, he's like five thousand yards away from the
all time record, but you know, rushing, I don't know
if he gets there. But their their offense is not
I mean right now it's Bateman, right, I like Jay
Flapp Flowers is fine. I I think that it's hard
for your number one wide receiver to be that small,
(01:40:08):
unless it's Tyreek Hill, who was a fast wide receiver
of all ye right, Like you have to have like
a special skill Tyreek Hill. But also the number one
in Kansay has always been Travis Kelsey, so like that's
not that's really you know, you can make argument maybe
it's Mark Andrews, but he's get older too, right. They
got rid of likely. The offense line got better with
the added Dad and Vega there as well. But I
(01:40:30):
just yeah, I think it's fair to with Baltimore because
of the new coach and getting rid of Harbaugh. But yeah,
they got to prove it to like what is Baltimore
posting says they had none of it? Right, It's like
when are you even considering them? But are they gonna
this is the year They're gonna do it all of
a sudden in the AFC, like this is finally the
year with a brand new coaching.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
Nay, they got a little better old defense, a dress defense.
I think Cincinnati wins that division.
Speaker 4 (01:40:55):
That'd be worse the first off. No, it won't be
worse the first They finished heart last year.
Speaker 3 (01:40:59):
Yeah, I am, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:41:01):
I think fandom is important, right, like I you know,
the Chiefs fans. So we talked about earlier, right like
if we're playing the Packers, do I worry about Jordan
Love And the answer is no, dude, I'm terrified of
Joe Burrow bro like.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
Like like every time he's got the ball, give him
a little bit on the other side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:41:16):
They're gonna score.
Speaker 3 (01:41:17):
They're going to score.
Speaker 4 (01:41:18):
I just don't think Taylor's a good coach. They missed.
They only be the playoffs twice under under Joe Burrow
that made the ex Chentire game in the Super Bowl.
In those two years, they've been heard and they haven't
played as well.
Speaker 3 (01:41:26):
In defense. I think they can win that division.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
I mean, it's just Baltimore because you know, I don't pitch,
you don't feel, and obviously I agree, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:41:35):
I don't disagree with you on that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:37):
Yeah, all right, I know you've got to roll.
Speaker 4 (01:41:39):
Yeah, all stars. They had a big tournament today, big
game that we won. What how about this extra We
went extra nings yesterday in softball. We we do like
a joint team. So it's me and another team, my
team with pair of another team. We went extra ings yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:41:53):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:41:54):
We have ghost runner, which I didn't know that was
a thing. Extras a ghost runner on second base and
we won nine to eight. A lot of fun. That's famdaughter,
my daughter staring this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
So nice. Well enjoy it, my brother, thank you, and
then we'll see you next week. Pal, there is Jeff Schwartz.
Brain's coming up next, so we'll dive back into the
NBA and some baseball, some futures and all that's coming
up fellas right here on Fox. All right, welcome back
(01:42:24):
Fellas and Jeff on the big NBA Finals Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:42:31):
Hey, don't forget.
Speaker 2 (01:42:33):
For over forty years, tire Rack has been helping customers
find the right tires. How what where they drive ship
fast and free back by, free road hazard protection, convenient
installation options like mobile tire installation. Tire rect is the
way tire buying should be. Here we go, tire rat
(01:42:54):
Play of the day, A big one in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:42:59):
Oh g Webaniama screen on the left with three Wemby
for elbow catch and shoot and missed it off to
that grim and then nixt survive.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
An instant classic in San Antonio, New York takes two
in Texas and they've.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
Got a two old lead in the NBA eight Finals.
There it was to play the game, of course, the
last play, great luck. Weby had it and uh back
rimmed it. There it was your Tiraq played the day.
It's Nicks Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:43:32):
Now let's go to our man joining us that he
does every Saturday. This time the brain, Hello brain.
Speaker 5 (01:43:44):
Does anyone still thinks the Knicks are not good? I
just again, I this is so strange to me that
the I've never seen a team that was this public.
It's like a you know, big market team disrespected. Do
everyone thought this team had no chance? They their faith?
I think people now at at some point you have
to say, all right, maybe we were wrong and Knicks
(01:44:05):
actually are pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
Well you listen, let me give you credit because you've
been on this next team since the beginning of the playoffs,
during the whole run, and you were like, listen, I
think the Knicks. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
You thought the Knicks would win the East, and you thought.
Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
That they would give either OKAC or the Spurs a
series and probably win it like that killed.
Speaker 5 (01:44:31):
Okay, see, but the Spurs, you know what, Listen, it's
interesting they were down for Young and he made this
great comeback and then Wemby just that was kind of
like his Jeames Worthy h Fred Brown play right back
in the day villain Georgetown against North Carolina. It where
he just threw the ball off Castle's back and it's
(01:44:53):
a shame. You know, you hate to lose a game
like that, But that's sports.
Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Well, I I mean, listen to me. It's just the
tale of youth like this. The Spurs have showed your
youth the first Tree game. The two games were carving
copies of each other. Game one, the Spurs control the game,
the Knicks make them fourth quarter run. Spurs can't handle
it right and they fold down the stretch. Bronson is
(01:45:21):
a killer and he wins the game. Game two, the
Knicks control the game. They're up fourteen in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs go on that same run that the Knicks did,
except they couldn't finish it the way the Knicks finished it,
and they had everything going for him right like they
had momentum. That stupid foul on the OG three was
(01:45:42):
it was a terrible play they gave. They had the
game tied, and that was a killer. And then you
know the turnover you mentioned, And then the other thing
is Wendy had a great look like you gotta knock
it down. You got the great look.
Speaker 5 (01:45:58):
You know. It's it's interesting, and it's like the difference
in the you know, one of the differences between these
two teams is and you need a basket right at
the end of the game. The Knicks have that guy
that seemingly just scores and makes that play. The Spurs,
you know when he's great, nothing he's not. He is,
(01:46:20):
but just different kind of situation where I just have
much more faith in the mixing of the score at
the end of the game having to need a basket
versus the Spurs just keeping it real.
Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
Well you know, it's always been you know, the guard,
the wing, the guy that can face the basket and
create has always been the best closer.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
And down the line that guy may be Harper.
Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
Yeah, I'm a big fan of his, Like Dylan, Harper
was awesome last night and when they needed buckets, you know,
he scored. Was it for it, had two buckets, crucial
buckets down the stretch to tie the game in one
game in the lead.
Speaker 5 (01:47:02):
That was my biggest prop. But yesterday was him over
eleven and a half points, and so I thought his
minutes would be there, and they really were. It's just
I thing. The game three line have you seen Anthony
really surprised me.
Speaker 2 (01:47:15):
I know, I have not seen it. I'll take a guess.
I'll say the Knicks are.
Speaker 3 (01:47:23):
Four and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:47:25):
That's that's what I would have made it minus two.
This team continues to get.
Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:47:34):
Oh my god, that's u unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (01:47:37):
It is like the people need to be hit over
the head with a baseball bat to just recognize this
team is good. They're still being treated like their garbage.
It's unbelievable to me.
Speaker 3 (01:47:47):
I wow, that's unbelieved.
Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
It's still it's still the lack of respect.
Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
This crazy dude crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:47:57):
It's like I keep seems like if people or people
watching a different game.
Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
I went to the clothes that last night.
Speaker 4 (01:48:05):
Seven seven, holy moment.
Speaker 5 (01:48:09):
I told you, I go every and every sharp run away,
every sharp was on San Antonio last night, and I
look everything I had not to bet the NIXT that
I got. You know, I respect people who know what
they're doing, and I laid off it. But I thought
that line should be like four and a half. And
I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
Yeah seven, oh my god, Yeah, but look alievable.
Speaker 5 (01:48:33):
I will be betting the NIXT in game three and
Game four, but the next and every game at home.
If they're going to be treated that little.
Speaker 2 (01:48:40):
Respects crazy that they are only.
Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
Two, Yeah, make money with the money line, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:48:50):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
Like, listen, we would argue. I'm not arguing, but we've
been kind of ticking this around. You. I've had to
roll with these kids, but uh, we would kick this route,
like are the Knicks going to have the blowout? Right?
Speaker 5 (01:49:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:49:05):
And like I think, you know, it's certainly in the cards,
but I think the Spurs keep it closed, like you
know it right, and they play defense. It's not like,
look the Knicks when they go Bananda's and shoot threes
and and they're just raining. But they did it against
(01:49:25):
those Mutt teams, right the Sixers. Sure the Cavaliers delusional
that they are. They're not doing that against san Antonio.
But here's what holds true. And it's hold true in
the first two games. And I don't really see it changing.
They got closers right like Bruns. It's a closer. They
(01:49:47):
can't san Antonio can't figure out the matchup when Webbian
is off the floor.
Speaker 5 (01:49:54):
And by the way, Anthony and again, I always try
to be fair in this world, and I always admit
when i'm I think I'm very and I will say
that Karl Anthony Towns has been utterly spectacular earlier. Yeah yeah,
and I and I again, when someone proves me I'm
(01:50:14):
not like someone who you know, I give him credit.
And in Towns of the guy Anthony that I had
been very, I say, luke warm if I'm being nice, uh,
And he's just one of those star players that's not
my kind of guy. Hasn't been that kind of guy.
But you know what, being totally fair in the playoffs,
he's been dominant he's been dominant. And you know, it's interesting.
(01:50:39):
You knew Brunson was a constant and the role players
are constant. But he's the one guy to me that
when he plays well, you see a team that's having
on an all time run, when he doesn't, they're just okay.
To me, he's the X factor on this team. And
he's just been great. And I give him a lot
of credits defense, his offense, his passing ability. He's been terrific.
(01:51:02):
And that was something I really did not think that
Towns had this in him because it look he may
tell me something to watch show and beat eat him
up back when I just this is just the guy
that I just never Saul was a real serious player
in a big series and gave credit to him. He's
been terrific. And I give Nick's credit. I give him credit.
Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
I great, you know, beautiful, And it was a you know,
tough night emotionally, was mom passing and you know, at
the end of the game he's talking to his dad.
Speaker 3 (01:51:32):
You know, yeah, God blessed. I mean it was a yeah,
it was great.
Speaker 5 (01:51:35):
I give him a lot of credit. I really mean that,
like he deserves his flowers, and uh, you know, It's
only the only two games in the series so far,
but you know, he was a huge part of why
they want his defense. And when Beyona h.
Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
Bridges last night was that was the key. I was,
Mi cal Bridges was.
Speaker 4 (01:51:54):
The key last night.
Speaker 5 (01:51:55):
Phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
So I was texting so you know, his cousin, Devon
Gibvens works with me, right, so he covers the six.
He's a good friend of mine. That McHale is Devon's cousin.
So Devn was in San Antonio last night, so he
was at the game. So I'm texting him.
Speaker 4 (01:52:15):
I'm going, you.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
Gotta get cousin involved. Bridges didn't have it. She had
one shot early in the second quarter. He only had
one shot.
Speaker 5 (01:52:22):
Remember I had this over eleven and a half. I
was cursing myself and.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
I'm like, you gotta get him involved in the game.
And then he hit one three and then he hit it,
walked into another running three, and then he was off
and he helped them.
Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
Because there was that there was that point where the.
Speaker 2 (01:52:39):
Spurs were making a run and his scoring stayed them
off and it was a big moment in the game.
Speaker 5 (01:52:47):
And I said, you know what I mean, you used
to really get on Darryl Moore for how he put
together the Sixers. The Knicks are put together perfectly. In
my opinion, they had perfect team. Everything, everything fits.
Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
Hey, we gotta take quichioh, you're right on. Let's take Quichio.
I want to ask you about we'll talk some more,
maybe some props. We've got the hockey tonight, so I
want to ask you about Game three and the little baseball.
So the brain will have some picks for his last segment.
So hang around, and the brain just gives out gems.
(01:53:21):
So you want to make sure as that we hang
right here. Fellas on Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back Fellas,
Jeff Schwartz, Anthony Gargano.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
Jeff was with the kids. He's got a tournament. I
got a tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:53:37):
Later on.
Speaker 2 (01:53:39):
We have a baseball thirteen U tournament down in Delaware.
Later on with the brain. Right now, brain, let's kick
it into a little hockey. Because the Stanley Cup Finals
scintillating first two games, Game two, Vegas looks like they're winning. Well,
(01:54:00):
they're up to nothing and they're gonna and they're gonna
go up two out of the series. And then bang bang,
Carolina ties it and then Carolina wins it. Uh in
Game three tonight from Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:54:16):
How do you say it, buddy?
Speaker 5 (01:54:18):
You know, before the series, anty before the series, I
thought Carolina will win a close series. Okay, you know,
through two games, I had think that Vegas has looked
like maybe is slightly better.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
To me.
Speaker 5 (01:54:35):
Again, by against just two games, I leave with the
betting lines Vegas with the first two games. Again, this
is another year where the home team has one more,
road team has one more games, and the home team
in home mace So I liked Vegas in Carolina, the
games in Vegas are the larger. Pick them. It's a
(01:54:55):
pick them game. I think it's the right number, Anthony,
I really really do. When Game five occurs, I'll probably
play veggas getting of the price of dour thirty, but
it'll pick I think it's honestly, I think it's a
fifty to fifty game. I think it's just the right number.
I think it's a really hard game to handicap. I
(01:55:16):
don't know what you think, but I think it'll be close.
And for me, no, no engine this pripert the game.
Speaker 4 (01:55:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
The other part of it too, which is really tough,
is you know, the first game five to four through
goals yep, this one. You know, I don't know. I
look at this game and I kind of like goals
in it. But I mean, you know, I think I'm
(01:55:44):
unimpressed with Anderson.
Speaker 5 (01:55:47):
Yeah, he has not been in this series. He hasn't
been anything. He's been no great shakes, for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
I mean I like their defense. I mean, obviously Caroline
plays defense, but you know, and both these teams will
block a lot of shots.
Speaker 3 (01:56:00):
But I still I think goals could be had.
Speaker 5 (01:56:03):
I don't love Vegas's goaltending situation. Personal hard the guy
we know well I gets and I think he's I
think he's ok pay but I think he kind of
is a little overrated in my just my opinion, I
don't think he's anything close to elite close to elite.
I think he is an average goaltender right now, in
(01:56:25):
my opinion, the best. That's not an insult. I'm gonna
think he's bad. I just yea, And I think he's
getting a lot of hype because of just you know,
became in front of him, and maybe just everything has
happened on people. I think get a little bit in mind,
taking a little bit too much credit. People talking about
him winning the con Smike, I'm like, are you kidding?
Like I would find that like ludicrous to me. I
(01:56:48):
don't think he's been the main reason at all that
they're where they are.
Speaker 3 (01:56:52):
Just my opinion, baseball. Who you got in baseball?
Speaker 5 (01:56:56):
A couple of days, I took the Mets five inning
line to day Noel McLean, the guy I just liked
very very much. Going against guy for the un has
been awful. Canning has been atrocious. Thing to me, had
a couple of bumpy stars. But I laid a dollar
(01:57:18):
twenty in the five inning line. I think it's extremely reasonable. Uh.
Ben Brown of the Cubs, I laid a dollar forty
over landed roupe. Uh and I took under four and
a half runs in the five inning line. Raised versus
Marlin Shane mcclanning has been great. Lake Bachar in a
bullpen game for the Marlins, is actually I expecting to
pitch two to three pretty good innings. I would have
(01:57:39):
made that closer to four three and a half that
five inning line total. Like the under and the rais
versus the Marlins and the five inning line.
Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
Yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:57:51):
How about the Yankees there without Judge, it's a completely
different lineup.
Speaker 5 (01:57:56):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 2 (01:57:57):
I mean, I like Boston again tonight because you got
sare Is going and he'll neutralize a lot of their lefties.
Speaker 5 (01:58:05):
Yeah, I mean I could totally see that. I mean,
I Boston though it's hard of back Ballston, you know,
I think there's a lack of off time and so smart.
It's just been really really difficult to back that team
to get Look, losing Judge is a is a big thing.
I'm gonna tit my cap to myself on one thing.
Four days ago, Ben Rice is sitting sixteen to one
MVP and I literally it's like, this is this is
(01:58:27):
one of the best stats of the year. I go,
Aaron Judge, I go pretty obviously he's putting the DL
and I go Rice as the best steps by far
in the American League.
Speaker 2 (01:58:35):
He said, Wow, that's awesome. Man's and then we got
to run great stuff. Everybody, We love you. Have a
great week. Fellas are out
