the league eat that word. Mendoza holur Beck. Yeah, we're
gonna run them all down and we say goodbye to
Russell Westbrook the right way. We have a conversation about that.
Now we're two the full preseason week one tape. Yep,
jobs one jobs loss? Is that even a thing? Undrafted

kids who took one to the house. Jaydon Daniels, we're
gonna talk about him as well, up his situation with
his number in LSU. That's been a big lightning rod
conversation over the Jersey numbers. So that will be a
conversation as well. But before we get to Jerry Jones
and what we always do, you know, gotta check in man.

that we get this opportunity to talk some sports. So
let's jump into it. Why don't we. Let's let's start
knock start fellas. You know that's where Dallas Cowboys do
their training camps, and well that's where Jerry Jones lets
it all hang out, you know what I mean, Like

he seems to always have been the start of the show,
so why stop now right? They asked Jerry Jones about
the Michael Parsons trade, and well, we had conversations about it.
I don't know that the verdict is in yet or
the book is written yet, but you did have one

generational talent pass rusher in the comparison in the likes
of a Lawrence Taylor and and and those types of
guys that have come into the league. Obviously Reggie White,
but they made the trade. They bring in Kenny Clark,
(05:27):
who is a that's a great, great interior lineman. They
ended up getting Quinnin Williams off of that and just
gave him a nice extension on what he's got going on.
They ended up getting a rookie and Malakitt Lawrence at
pick twenty three, so they got three linemen for Micaeh Parsons. Now,
(05:48):
while I find it hard to debate the talent and
the names connected to that, I think Malakitt Lawrence is
going to be a phenomenon in the league for one,
and Quinn Williams we know he's disruptive, and Kenny Clark,
he's the type of guy that's going to command more
than one guy every single play. Well, it seems like

it's a win. And well, here's what Jerry Jones had
to say about it, Fellas.

It's like going to Las Vegas with some extra money
in your pocket, or going out there with the babies
new pair of shoes and formal money in your pocket.
You can't be as good as a crapshooter as you
are when you've got the baby's new pair of shoes
going out there with it. So in a way, this
actually created a mental part to us and to my

role in it, with me to step out and make
the moves and take the if you will, risks that
are involved in it, which they are to be where
we are today with the complete makeover of the defense.

don't understand what the hell Jerry was saying when he

Okay, that's wonderful. So daddy's trying to get a new
pair of shoes and his baby pair of shoes for
the baby, and he had to get rid of Michael Parsons.
I guess to put himself in position to get those shoes.
Maybe that's what he meant by I guess I would
ask you guys, and looking at what has taken place,

I mean, obviously it would be easy to say, wow,
they dodged a bullet. He blew his knee out. But
we all know that you come back from injuries like
a torn achilles or torn acl or MCL you come
back from those those injuries pretty pretty normal. It's pretty
pretty normal deal. These days, what used to be career enders.

It doesn't even It's just you need time to heal
up from the surgery rehabit and then you're back to
doing things as usual today. Looking at it from right
now today, what do you think the energy of this
situation is? Do you think that the Dallas Cowboys are
the better for it? Or is this something that remains
(08:53):
to be seen? Letting go a guy like that would
be to me, that would be the equivalent of if
the New York Giants had let, you know, let Lawrence
Taylor go literally heading into the prime. He wasn't even
in the prime of his career when they made this trade.
You're talking about letting a Lawrence Taylor type talent go

in a trade as they're heading into their prime as
your draft pick of your team. What's the energy on
it today? Is that cat what Jerry Jones is throwing
out there, or does he feel good about where he's
at and really is standing on ten that getting rid
of Michael Parsons was the right decision.

I'm sure he feels like it was the right decision.
When you can get Quinn Williams, Kenny Clark and the
promise of Mala Kay Launcher, you got to feel good
about that you really do now what I have made
that trade? Probably not because when the trade was made
(09:55):
it was Kenny Clark and I believe two first round picks.
Like these first round picks, you just never really know
what they're gonna be. You don't. It's an inexact science
with this draft. But to be able to flip one
of those first round picks into Quinn Williams, now it's like, oh, okay,
there's a lot of people that would probably trade Micah
(10:19):
Parsons for Quinn Williams and Kenny Clark, just those two
players and so and you got another pick in it.
So when when you for me, when you look at it,
I'm gonna say the Cowboys one one it regardless if
Malaky Lawrence turns out to if Malachy Lawrence turns out
to be a baller they really wanted, but just off

getting Quinn Williams and Kenny Clark because they're proven. We
know what they gonna do in the league. Now it's
just up to them and the Cowboys. There's new defensive coordinator.
Can they be stout on defense? If they can be
stout on defense, regardless if Malachy Lawrence plays, has a
good career, now he plays well or not. For me,

the Cowboys have won this trade just off Quentin Williams
and Kenny Clark. Mm hmm.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
Man, if you're just looking at this, uh, this Dallas Roston,
you're talking about Canda Dallas. Can Dallas have a stout defense?
I mean why should they not? I mean you're looking
at this front four you guys forget that the Cowboys
added Roshan Gary also, so you're talking about Rochean Gary,
Kenny Clark, Quinn Williams, and Roshan Gary uh in a
(11:29):
three four defense, So why wouldn't they be able to
be able to stop the run. Finally, from what I'm
understanding is guy Caleb Downs, He's supposed to be a
phenomenal young talent coming in. They're talking about he's already
a coach on the field and they can basically put
him anywhere, and he covering the ceedee lamb in practice.
And that's just defensively, but offensively. Also, you're talking about

Jake ferguson tight end, and that's Dak Prescott has all
the weapons and they're just gonna have to just put
up and shut up because it's that time they've been
you know, saying this for the last five six years
over right there, and it's always super Bowl talk going
into the season. But from top to bottom, the Dallas

Cowboys probably have the best roster in the.

In the NFCS.

So there's no excuses for them not to finish first
or second in this division and get to the playoffs.
So they were just gonna have to stop making all
the excuses and finally put this roster together. That that
Jared Jones says that this is why I'm standing here
today because of the Michael Parsons trade. Well, we're gonna
find out real someone how good this football team is.

Is it win or bust? And and and another question
it should be right it always is with Dallas. I
would I would ask this question, is this a message
to all other players like no one? I mean, listen,
they just got rid of Miles Garrett right there used
to be a time and maybe it's just evolution, guys,

Maybe it's just times have just truly changed where if
you have a guy that's as talented as Males Garrett
or Michael Parsons, you would in dream of letting them
go to another team. But it seems to be very different. Now,
so should the mentality it just as it seems maybe
(13:23):
the owners and the franchises are changing. They're kind of
the way they value players, isn't that shouldn't you think
that that should be a lesson to or foreshadowing or
forewarning to the players that they have to make sure
that they're looking at themselves as a business entity as well.
How does that play out for loyalty to the fan base,
(13:44):
How does that play out for loyalty to the community,
because it kind of goes against everything that you would
think sports, in a game like football would represent.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Huh is no loyalty in these sportsman? You know, we
know this. The fans are gonna be loyal to the team.
They love you when you're on the team, they hate
you when you leave. They love you if you're on
the team. May can play as soon as you drop
a ball, throw a pick, get beat you trash and

so you know that that's just how that's how it works.
It's such a small window of time that we can
play this game, and when you're playing it, bro it
seems like it's gonna last forever and then snap them
fingers is over.

And so.

You know, you know what, you know, you know what
I've recognized over the past I will say a decade,
what has changed with these teams trading their franchise playoffs?
I think it comes down to value, It really does.
So when you have teams and organizations that are trying
to rebuild, they're using their best player or the best
player for a boggaining piece to really like rebuild these
(15:00):
football teams. But when I talk about value, on the
flip side of it, it's how much how much is
this player worth? And like some of these teams, they
don't want to trade these players, but they don't want
to pay them either. You look at Kansas City, there's
no reason for them to get rid of trm McDuffie.
Trim McDuffie goes to the Rams and you know he's
one of the highest paid players in all the football
(15:21):
But some of these organizations don't want to, you know,
pay these salaries that some of these positions moving forward
because they they already know what they're looking at from
somebody these players. So to me, it comes down to value.
If they want to pay the guy or not they
trade the trade them somebody else. Let somebody else pick
up the tab. But in the Miles Garrett situation, Miles
(15:43):
Garrett didn't want to be there. They're not really going
to be good anytime soon, so why not start a
rebuild with using Miles Garrett to get you know, some
of these players that we need on this team so
so they can help us win moving forward.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
It's interesting the landscape for certain, and I wonder if
it will work. I mean, I can't y'all know. I
love me some Michael Parsons, but it's hard to debate
the return. As you mentioned TJ, it's it's hard. And
as you mentioned Blecks they added with Shaun gary to
to the team. It's that I mean in Caleb Downs
(16:23):
as you mentioned play, it's it looks like they went
from zero to hero.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
With their defense.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Now. Can can the linebackers do what they need to do?
Can the defense front live up to the expectations? Can
the offense deliver? Like you guys said, We're gonna see
what happens, but it does look intriguing. They do play
each other this year. In fact, that might be the
week that Michael Parsons makes his return to the field,

and we'll see how that all goes. But I'm curious
to see how Michael Parsons performs coming off of his injury,
and I'm also curious to see how Dallas does this season.

the Jade and Daniels conversation, that's that's something we'll we'll

let's talk about this draft class with a chip on
its shoulder. Fellas, all spring, the league called this quarterback
class Week sparse analysis on these guys, was saying that
(20:17):
we might not see a single rookie start Week one
for the first time since twenty twenty two. Then the
preseason started and we see some of these kids dealing.
From Mendoza to Drew Alar to Carson Beck. I mean,
they have all came out of the gates pretty quickly.
(20:40):
Now I know it's difficult to create a narrative off
of one game and one showing in the preseason. It's
not schemed up, it's not starters. But both of you
guys are receivers, and we had this conversation yesterday, Plex,
so it'd be good to hear the expansion of thought
on it and where you're at with the TJ. I
(21:00):
know you train a lot of these guys that go
into the draft and play with these quarterbacks, and sometimes
because of Palmer, you have the quarterbacks there too. At
the minimum, it seems as though this group of quarterbacks
has already maybe proven the narrative wrong of their draft
class not being that good of a draft class. I
(21:23):
think we had the conversation yesterday TJ and went through
four five. We went through five quarterbacks that are rookies
right now this year and if they would potentially be
the starter by next season. And I think by all accounts,
whether it's through retirement or through winning the job, I
(21:44):
think we got to five. So what's your take on it?
Like the quarterbacks right now, do you think the way
Mendoza is playing so far, if he continues on that trajectory,
do you think Tom Brady and the rest of the
Brass will continue to feel like Mendoza needs to sit
out and Cousins needs to play. What's your take on it?
(22:07):
Carson Beck looked good and that that doesn't that can't
be great for Jacoby Brissett, But what's your what is
what's your first DJ? What's your take on it? I'd
like to get get yours on it first before because
I know, plus you're already ready to go. What do
you got TODJ.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
My initial reaction was, Wow, these dudes are playing well.
You go from the first game that we saw what
Carson Beck, it was like impressive, very well. But we've
been there. It's the preseason, it's the Hall of Fame game.
She's not really playing your starters. But I would rather
(22:45):
play well than not play well. You go with Mendoza
and the Raiders regardless she's not starting the season. I
believe Kirk Cousins. He knew when he signed with the
Raiders they had the first pick, and so he's going
to at least start seven eight games. They dead they're
(23:07):
gonna get him at least that now. If he's just
asked the first four he making, But I don't see
that happening. In that offense with Clint Kobiak being a coordinator,
and then you just go around like Drew Aller.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
I don't know if you guys remember this. This is
probably three years ago. I said Drew Aller was gonna
be the first pick of the draft when he came out.
Obviously I was wrong as two left feet, but that
was in State.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Was Hey, I can't say that.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
You don't have to say it. I know football Penn
State failed him, the University of or Penn State University.
They failed him with that two yards in a cloud
of dust offense. They failed him, and so he wasn't
able to reach his potential because of the offensive system
that he had to play under at Penn State. And
(24:07):
then you look at Kay Klumick. He started a lot
of football at Clemson, played very well with the Jets
in his first preseason game, and so the rookies have
done well. And again, I would rather play well in
any game that I plan, I don't give a down
if it's a scrimmage, than not play well. But us
(24:29):
kind of having been through this before, it is a preseason,
things are very simple. A lot of teams aren't playing
their starters, but kudos to all these young men that
have played well, because, as many of us is going
to say, it's just a preseason, well damn it. If
I had played bad, you would have said I sucked
and I'm not ready to go. So play as well
as you can in each and every game you play in.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
Well, you know, basically saying saying these same things basically,
But I don't think that is going to make it
except a week eight. I really don't because in my
mindset is, if you're Clint Kubiak and you're the general manager,
and you're looking at both of these quarterbacks and you're
(25:11):
evaluating them every day and you can't tell which one
is better than the other, why not just start the
rookie and just get him in there so so so
you know what you're dealing with moving forward right off
the jump. So like the players will be the be
the ones to speak up if it does come to that,
(25:31):
because if he's not playing well, one in four, one
in five, whatever the case may be, why, if you're
Clint Kubiak, why would you let your season just go
down to drain when you just bought in a number
one quarterback to take to take over your franchise, So
I think that Kirk Cousin is going to be on
the very short least just because of just because of
(25:52):
that fact. But I just don't understand why you wouldn't
start on week one that that's just my opinion. And
and also with the old Carson Beck thing. They just
signed Jakobe's Brisset to a two year extension, but it's
pretty much the same situation. Arizona has not been very
good over the past, you know, five or six years,
(26:15):
the whole Kyler Murray experience and experience didn't work out.
So if if Jacoby Brissett has basically been a journeyman,
so if you Carson Beck is playing, well, why don't
you play him? If you're the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
The Carson Back situation, to me is the most intriguing
because I think we all know the eventual nature of
what's going to happen with Mendoza in Vegas. We all
know he's gonna end up starting. I don't that's not
even up for debate. But the one that's very curious
is because the Arizona Cardinals, we don't know what type
of team they're going to be. I mean, we know
(26:53):
they got some good draft picks and Jeremiah Love he
looked good. They added him to the roster at the
running backs position. You know, maybe maybe Marv, you know,
maybe Marvin is gonna really really transition into being the
type of receiver that he needs to be at at
(27:14):
the pro level. But we don't know what type of
team this is going to be. So the conversations have
been all these teams that are maybe like how the
Arizona Cardinals are are looking towards what will be considered
to be the draft of drafts in such a long time,
with quarterbacks, a quarterback heavy talent draft this upcoming year.
(27:37):
It's made me watching Carson Beck play made me think about, Okay,
if this is the situation that the Arizona Cardinals are in,
and I think that they're aware of that they're in
this situation, of course, why would you not start Carson
Beck if he shows you any type of promise and
in the preseason game, why would you not start him
(28:00):
and give him the full entire season to see if
he is indeed the quarterback of your future or why
if it doesn't work out, Now you have the draft
that you can lean on and go get another quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
You know why first year head coach man the way
these owners in his NFL operate have a terrible season,
to have a terrible season if you want to and
so yeah, and Carson Beck was supposed to be the
first pick. Remember when he was at Georgia. He went
(28:34):
into the season as a number one pick, got hurt
and lost the spot and transferred to Miami. But none
of these coaches. You can't risk it. You just can't
risk it as a head coach because these owners have
shown like they will get rid of you after one
year and then you'll be a coordinator or a position
(28:54):
coach kicking yourself, Ah, why' do not do that? And
you may not get another opportunity. So if I'm a
head coach, I'm going with Brissett, win me five six
games and hopefully that gives me another year, because if
I go two and fifteen, three and fourteen, I might
be gone.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
So so to does that same rule apply to Clint
Kubiak being his first year as a head coach, having
drafted number one overall pick.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Why that's the question different because he has his quarterback.
May you know how many coaches Mark Davis has had
in the last. He has his quarterback and he's coming
off a Super Bowl win as an offensive coordinator, and
so I believe Kubiak has more rope than Lafleur just
because of the credentials that he's coming with. He just
(29:46):

Let's give him his respect. But I did want to
ask the question, what's the difference, you know, between walking
away if you're Russell Westbrook because it's a league minimum
and maybe you're not a guaranteed starter, versus Lebron James

taking the league minimum. I mean, Lebron is older, right,
isn't Lebron older than Russell west Yeah? He's way older, right?

derail the respect of his career and what he did.
But I was just curious, didn't Lebron just do the

because he wanted to go to a team that had
a chance to win a championship in the Philadelphia seventy
six ers, Lebron had more money on the table from
other franchises. It seems as if Russell, Russell Wilson, Russell
Westbrook didn't have that. And Russell Westbrook right now is

the greatest Oklahoma City player ever. Now SGA may end
up taking that title from him. What he's done, Bro,
he did it his way. He wasn't a topper crew
that kind of screwed him over at UCL's freshman season,
gets drafted forth to the Seattle SuperSonics, never plays there

because they relocated Oklahoma City. People want to discredit him
and his stats are empty, and y'all know I'm a
Laker fan. If his stats are empty, then our Lucas
stats not empty as well. He yeah, does he score more, yeah,
but he doesn't rebound as much. And so you know,
it's a lot of discrediting what Russell Westbrook has accomplished
(40:05):
and done. And I just think that's crazy disrespectful when
you when the triple double was so hard to get
and he starts just getting triple doubles like it was nothing.
Then the triple double don't matter now oh, you know,
but if it was that easy, everybody would do it.
Everybody would do it if it was that easy. And
he has more triple doubles than anybody to ever play.

And so I just felt like the last heever many years,
he's kind of been discredited and hasn't been getting this
just doing and I think that's wrong. And look what
he did for Oklahoma City. Look what he did, right,
So he convinces Paul George to go to Oklahoma City

and then Paul George gets traded to the Clippers for
SGA and a bunch of first round picks. What if
Westbrook didn't do that, Oklahoma City would not be what
they are right now. And so, if anything, credit him
for convincing Paul Georgia come to Oklahoma City. SGA gets
traded to Oklahoma City for Paul George and a bunch

of first round picks, and the rebuild was on. And
look what they've done with that rebuild. But Russell Westbrook
is a top five point guard ever in the history
of the NBA in my opinion, what he has done
in the game, and then outside of that, what he's
done in the city of Los Angeles for these kids,
(41:32):
his AAU program. Why not a lot of things that
he that he does, it goes unnoticed because not many
people talk about it because he's not talking about it.
But he does a lot for the young kids out
here in the LA area. And so for me to him,
congratulations on the hell of a career, and the people
that discredit him, shame on them.

Yeah, man, kudos of Russell Westbrook. Man, I really believe that,
you know, he was at a point in his career where,
you know, what if he had opportunities to play other places,
but he wanted to come off the bench. But also, man,
he played eleven years in Kansas, he played eleven years
in OKC, and then out of the last six years,
he's played on six different basketball teams. So I kind of,

you know, feel that he didn't want to turn into
a journeyman himself, and he was able to walk away
from the game, you know, with his resume, you know
what I mean, His resume speaks for himself with his
fifth all time in assists in fourteen, that's going on
the NBA scoring list. So I don't really think there
was really too much for him to do but to
go out and chase a championship, but Russell Rustbrook I

don't think has that kind of personality to really just
going to chasing championships.

their training camps, and well that's where Jerry Jones lets

he seems to always have been the start of the show,
so why stop now right? They asked Jerry Jones about
the Michael Parsons trade, and well, we had conversations about it.
I don't know that the verdict is in yet or
the book is written yet, but you did have one

generational talent pass rusher in the comparison in the likes
of a Lawrence Taylor and and and those types of
guys that have come into the league. Obviously Reggie White,
but they made the trade. They bring in Kenny Clark,
(05:27):
who is a that's a great, great interior lineman. They
ended up getting Quinnin Williams off of that and just
gave him a nice extension on what he's got going on.
They ended up getting a rookie and Malakitt Lawrence at
pick twenty three, so they got three linemen for Micaeh Parsons. Now,
(05:48):
while I find it hard to debate the talent and
the names connected to that, I think Malakitt Lawrence is
going to be a phenomenon in the league for one,
and Quinn Williams we know he's disruptive, and Kenny Clark,
he's the type of guy that's going to command more
than one guy every single play. Well, it seems like

it's a win. And well, here's what Jerry Jones had
to say about it, Fellas.

It's like going to Las Vegas with some extra money
in your pocket, or going out there with the babies
new pair of shoes and formal money in your pocket.
You can't be as good as a crapshooter as you
are when you've got the baby's new pair of shoes
going out there with it. So in a way, this
actually created a mental part to us and to my

role in it, with me to step out and make
the moves and take the if you will, risks that
are involved in it, which they are to be where
we are today with the complete makeover of the defense.

I guess to put himself in position to get those shoes.
Maybe that's what he meant by I guess I would
ask you guys, and looking at what has taken place,

I mean, obviously it would be easy to say, wow,
they dodged a bullet. He blew his knee out. But
we all know that you come back from injuries like
a torn achilles or torn acl or MCL you come
back from those those injuries pretty pretty normal. It's pretty
pretty normal deal. These days, what used to be career enders.

It doesn't even It's just you need time to heal
up from the surgery rehabit and then you're back to
doing things as usual today. Looking at it from right
now today, what do you think the energy of this
situation is? Do you think that the Dallas Cowboys are
the better for it? Or is this something that remains

to be seen? Letting go a guy like that would
be to me, that would be the equivalent of if
the New York Giants had let, you know, let Lawrence
Taylor go literally heading into the prime. He wasn't even
in the prime of his career when they made this trade.
You're talking about letting a Lawrence Taylor type talent go

in a trade as they're heading into their prime as
your draft pick of your team. What's the energy on
it today? Is that cat what Jerry Jones is throwing
out there, or does he feel good about where he's
at and really is standing on ten that getting rid
of Michael Parsons was the right decision.

I'm sure he feels like it was the right decision.
When you can get Quinn Williams, Kenny Clark and the
promise of Mala Kay Launcher, you got to feel good
about that you really do now what I have made
that trade? Probably not because when the trade was made

it was Kenny Clark and I believe two first round picks.
Like these first round picks, you just never really know
what they're gonna be. You don't. It's an inexact science
with this draft. But to be able to flip one
of those first round picks into Quinn Williams, now it's like, oh, okay,
there's a lot of people that would probably trade Micah

Parsons for Quinn Williams and Kenny Clark, just those two
players and so and you got another pick in it.
So when when you for me, when you look at it,
I'm gonna say the Cowboys one one it regardless if
Malaky Lawrence turns out to if Malachy Lawrence turns out
to be a baller they really wanted, but just off
(10:39):
getting Quinn Williams and Kenny Clark because they're proven. We
know what they gonna do in the league. Now it's
just up to them and the Cowboys. There's new defensive coordinator.
Can they be stout on defense? If they can be
stout on defense, regardless if Malachy Lawrence plays, has a
good career, now he plays well or not. For me,

the Cowboys have won this trade just off Quentin Williams
and Kenny Clark. Mm hmm.

Man, if you're just looking at this, uh, this Dallas Roston,
you're talking about Canda Dallas. Can Dallas have a stout defense?
I mean why should they not? I mean you're looking
at this front four you guys forget that the Cowboys
added Roshan Gary also, so you're talking about Rochean Gary,
Kenny Clark, Quinn Williams, and Roshan Gary uh in a
(11:29):
three four defense, So why wouldn't they be able to
be able to stop the run. Finally, from what I'm
understanding is guy Caleb Downs, He's supposed to be a
phenomenal young talent coming in. They're talking about he's already
a coach on the field and they can basically put
him anywhere, and he covering the ceedee lamb in practice.
And that's just defensively, but offensively. Also, you're talking about

Jake ferguson tight end, and that's Dak Prescott has all
the weapons and they're just gonna have to just put
up and shut up because it's that time they've been
you know, saying this for the last five six years
over right there, and it's always super Bowl talk going
into the season. But from top to bottom, the Dallas

Cowboys probably have the best roster in the.

In the NFCS.

So there's no excuses for them not to finish first
or second in this division and get to the playoffs.
So they were just gonna have to stop making all

the way they value players, isn't that shouldn't you think
that that should be a lesson to or foreshadowing or
forewarning to the players that they have to make sure
that they're looking at themselves as a business entity as well.
How does that play out for loyalty to the fan base,

How does that play out for loyalty to the community,
because it kind of goes against everything that you would
think sports, in a game like football would represent.

Huh is no loyalty in these sportsman? You know, we
know this. The fans are gonna be loyal to the team.
They love you when you're on the team, they hate
you when you leave. They love you if you're on
the team. May can play as soon as you drop

It's such a small window of time that we can
play this game, and when you're playing it, bro it
seems like it's gonna last forever and then snap them

to rebuild, they're using their best player or the best
player for a boggaining piece to really like rebuild these
(15:00):
football teams. But when I talk about value, on the
flip side of it, it's how much how much is
this player worth? And like some of these teams, they
don't want to trade these players, but they don't want
to pay them either. You look at Kansas City, there's
no reason for them to get rid of trm McDuffie.
Trim McDuffie goes to the Rams and you know he's
one of the highest paid players in all the football
(15:21):
But some of these organizations don't want to, you know,
pay these salaries that some of these positions moving forward
because they they already know what they're looking at from
somebody these players. So to me, it comes down to value.
If they want to pay the guy or not they
trade the trade them somebody else. Let somebody else pick
up the tab. But in the Miles Garrett situation, Miles
(15:43):
Garrett didn't want to be there. They're not really going
to be good anytime soon, so why not start a
rebuild with using Miles Garrett to get you know, some
of these players that we need on this team so
so they can help us win moving forward.

It's interesting the landscape for certain, and I wonder if
it will work. I mean, I can't y'all know. I
love me some Michael Parsons, but it's hard to debate
the return. As you mentioned TJ, it's it's hard. And
as you mentioned Blecks they added with Shaun gary to
to the team. It's that I mean in Caleb Downs

as you mentioned play, it's it looks like they went
from zero to hero.

Now. Can can the linebackers do what they need to do?

some full preseason Week one discussions, takeaways from the guys,
the Jade and Daniels conversation, that's that's something we'll we'll

touch on it as well. We'll get to the lightning
locker round to take us home later on. But right now,
let's talk about this draft class with a chip on
its shoulder. Fellas, all spring, the league called this quarterback
class Week sparse analysis on these guys, was saying that
(20:17):
we might not see a single rookie start Week one
for the first time since twenty twenty two. Then the
preseason started and we see some of these kids dealing.
From Mendoza to Drew Alar to Carson Beck. I mean,
they have all came out of the gates pretty quickly.
(20:40):
Now I know it's difficult to create a narrative off
of one game and one showing in the preseason. It's
not schemed up, it's not starters. But both of you
guys are receivers, and we had this conversation yesterday, Plex,
so it'd be good to hear the expansion of thought
on it and where you're at with the TJ. I
(21:00):
know you train a lot of these guys that go
into the draft and play with these quarterbacks, and sometimes
because of Palmer, you have the quarterbacks there too. At
the minimum, it seems as though this group of quarterbacks
has already maybe proven the narrative wrong of their draft
class not being that good of a draft class. I
(21:23):
think we had the conversation yesterday TJ and went through
four five. We went through five quarterbacks that are rookies
right now this year and if they would potentially be
the starter by next season. And I think by all accounts,
whether it's through retirement or through winning the job, I
(21:44):
think we got to five. So what's your take on it?
Like the quarterbacks right now, do you think the way
Mendoza is playing so far, if he continues on that trajectory,
do you think Tom Brady and the rest of the
Brass will continue to feel like Mendoza needs to sit
out and Cousins needs to play. What's your take on it?
(22:07):
Carson Beck looked good and that that doesn't that can't
be great for Jacoby Brissett, But what's your what is
what's your first DJ? What's your take on it? I'd
like to get get yours on it first before because
I know, plus you're already ready to go. What do
you got TODJ.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
My initial reaction was, Wow, these dudes are playing well.
You go from the first game that we saw what
Carson Beck, it was like impressive, very well. But we've
been there. It's the preseason, it's the Hall of Fame game.
She's not really playing your starters. But I would rather
(22:45):
play well than not play well. You go with Mendoza
and the Raiders regardless she's not starting the season. I
believe Kirk Cousins. He knew when he signed with the
Raiders they had the first pick, and so he's going
to at least start seven eight games. They dead they're
(23:07):
gonna get him at least that now. If he's just
asked the first four he making, But I don't see
that happening. In that offense with Clint Kobiak being a coordinator,
and then you just go around like Drew Aller.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
I don't know if you guys remember this. This is
probably three years ago. I said Drew Aller was gonna
be the first pick of the draft when he came out.
Obviously I was wrong as two left feet, but that
was in State.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Was Hey, I can't say that.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
You don't have to say it. I know football Penn
State failed him, the University of or Penn State University.
They failed him with that two yards in a cloud
of dust offense. They failed him, and so he wasn't
able to reach his potential because of the offensive system
that he had to play under at Penn State. And
(24:07):
then you look at Kay Klumick. He started a lot
of football at Clemson, played very well with the Jets
in his first preseason game, and so the rookies have
done well. And again, I would rather play well in
any game that I plan, I don't give a down
if it's a scrimmage, than not play well. But us
(24:29):
kind of having been through this before, it is a preseason,
things are very simple. A lot of teams aren't playing
their starters, but kudos to all these young men that
have played well, because, as many of us is going
to say, it's just a preseason, well damn it. If
I had played bad, you would have said I sucked
and I'm not ready to go. So play as well
as you can in each and every game you play in.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
Well, you know, basically saying saying these same things basically,
But I don't think that is going to make it
except a week eight. I really don't because in my
mindset is, if you're Clint Kubiak and you're the general manager,
and you're looking at both of these quarterbacks and you're
(25:11):
evaluating them every day and you can't tell which one
is better than the other, why not just start the
rookie and just get him in there so so so
you know what you're dealing with moving forward right off
the jump. So like the players will be the be
the ones to speak up if it does come to that,
(25:31):
because if he's not playing well, one in four, one
in five, whatever the case may be, why, if you're
Clint Kubiak, why would you let your season just go
down to drain when you just bought in a number
one quarterback to take to take over your franchise, So
I think that Kirk Cousin is going to be on
the very short least just because of just because of
(25:52):
that fact. But I just don't understand why you wouldn't
start on week one that that's just my opinion. And
and also with the old Carson Beck thing. They just
signed Jakobe's Brisset to a two year extension, but it's
pretty much the same situation. Arizona has not been very
good over the past, you know, five or six years,
(26:15):
the whole Kyler Murray experience and experience didn't work out.
So if if Jacoby Brissett has basically been a journeyman,
so if you Carson Beck is playing, well, why don't
you play him? If you're the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
The Carson Back situation, to me is the most intriguing
because I think we all know the eventual nature of
what's going to happen with Mendoza in Vegas. We all
know he's gonna end up starting. I don't that's not
even up for debate. But the one that's very curious
is because the Arizona Cardinals, we don't know what type
of team they're going to be. I mean, we know
(26:53):
they got some good draft picks and Jeremiah Love he
looked good. They added him to the roster at the
running backs position. You know, maybe maybe Marv, you know,
maybe Marvin is gonna really really transition into being the
type of receiver that he needs to be at at
(27:14):
the pro level. But we don't know what type of
team this is going to be. So the conversations have
been all these teams that are maybe like how the
Arizona Cardinals are are looking towards what will be considered
to be the draft of drafts in such a long time,
with quarterbacks, a quarterback heavy talent draft this upcoming year.
(27:37):
It's made me watching Carson Beck play made me think about, Okay,
if this is the situation that the Arizona Cardinals are in,
and I think that they're aware of that they're in
this situation, of course, why would you not start Carson
Beck if he shows you any type of promise and
in the preseason game, why would you not start him
(28:00):
and give him the full entire season to see if
he is indeed the quarterback of your future or why
if it doesn't work out, Now you have the draft
that you can lean on and go get another quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
You know why first year head coach man the way
these owners in his NFL operate have a terrible season,
to have a terrible season if you want to and
so yeah, and Carson Beck was supposed to be the
first pick. Remember when he was at Georgia. He went
(28:34):
into the season as a number one pick, got hurt
and lost the spot and transferred to Miami. But none
of these coaches. You can't risk it. You just can't
risk it as a head coach because these owners have
shown like they will get rid of you after one
year and then you'll be a coordinator or a position
(28:54):
coach kicking yourself, Ah, why' do not do that? And
you may not get another opportunity. So if I'm a
head coach, I'm going with Brissett, win me five six
games and hopefully that gives me another year, because if
I go two and fifteen, three and fourteen, I might
be gone.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
So so to does that same rule apply to Clint
Kubiak being his first year as a head coach, having
drafted number one overall pick.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Why that's the question different because he has his quarterback.
May you know how many coaches Mark Davis has had
in the last. He has his quarterback and he's coming
off a Super Bowl win as an offensive coordinator, and
so I believe Kubiak has more rope than Lafleur just
because of the credentials that he's coming with. He just
(29:46):
won a Super Bowl, he coordinated an offense and a
quarterback that the Raiders didn't want, and Sam Darnold they
could have had him, they chose not to take them.
They didn't want them. So you need to tell me.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
So you mean to tell me if you the Las
Vegas Raiders and your Mark Davis and you're sitting here
looking at this team and they're not playing, they're not
performing well, they're not winning football games, You're just gonna
let Kirk Cousins, uh, basically sink the ship in his
first season. Knowing that you've got Fernando Mendoz on the
you ain't.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Gonna sink the ship. If Fernando Mendoza start, the Raiders
going to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
No, we don't have to listen.

Listen you had when you're if they start Kirks Cousins,

Because you feel he can learn, he can learn from
watching what is it?

What is he learning how to lose?

playoffs or even into the.

Mendoza is a rookie.

They have fired coaches in their first first absolutely multiple times.

This is the thing. I don't believe Clint Kobiak would
be in that position. Now. Have the Raiders shown a
history lately of letting the coach go after one year? Yes,
but I don't believe Clink. Look at the coaches Raiders
have had. So let's just go with ap. It was

his first time being a head coach anywhere outside of
high school. So there's a you know, people may be talking,
you know, behind the scenes. And then you get Pete Curroll,
who many thought why is he still coaching? So you
get a guy that has never been a head coach
past high school, and then you hire a guy that

many things, why are you still coaching? You've had your run,
So it's kind of easy to fire those two guys. Well,
he's he's been a. He's been a football lifeer, so
to speak. His pops is due. He just coordinated the
Seattle Seahawks offense to a Super Bowl, and I know
they were led by their defense. I mean he was
(33:30):
dialing up plays and designing plays and calling plays at
the right time. And look at when you watch the
Raiders play this first preseason game, same thing you saw
in Seattle. Calling the right player at the right time.
Guys know where to go with the ball. He is
not getting They go on seventeen. He ain't getting fired
after one year.

eighteen seasons. Uh fellas he was offered the opportunity uh
to continue to play, and based off of what the
offer was, he said he'd rather retire. It's it's interesting
and maybe it's a little different than Lebron James. But

before I it's a quick segment, but I like respect.
Let's give him his respect. But I did want to
ask the question, what's the difference, you know, between walking
away if you're Russell Westbrook because it's a league minimum
and maybe you're not a guaranteed starter, versus Lebron James
(38:36):
taking the league minimum. I mean, Lebron is older, right,
isn't Lebron older than Russell west Yeah? He's way older, right?
Speaker 4 (38:44):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I mean what's the difference here? But but but give
your your love words first. Obviously, I don't want to
derail the respect of his career and what he did.
But I was just curious, didn't Lebron just do the
same exact thing going to Philadelphia.

No, Lebron could have taken more, he chose not to
because he wanted to go to a team that had
a chance to win a championship in the Philadelphia seventy
six ers, Lebron had more money on the table from
other franchises. It seems as if Russell, Russell Wilson, Russell
Westbrook didn't have that. And Russell Westbrook right now is
(39:21):
the greatest Oklahoma City player ever. Now SGA may end
up taking that title from him. What he's done, Bro,
he did it his way. He wasn't a topper crew
that kind of screwed him over at UCL's freshman season,
gets drafted forth to the Seattle SuperSonics, never plays there
(39:41):
because they relocated Oklahoma City. People want to discredit him
and his stats are empty, and y'all know I'm a
Laker fan. If his stats are empty, then our Lucas
stats not empty as well. He yeah, does he score more, yeah,
but he doesn't rebound as much. And so you know,
it's a lot of discrediting what Russell Westbrook has accomplished
(40:05):
and done. And I just think that's crazy disrespectful when
you when the triple double was so hard to get
and he starts just getting triple doubles like it was nothing.
Then the triple double don't matter now oh, you know,
but if it was that easy, everybody would do it.
Everybody would do it if it was that easy. And
he has more triple doubles than anybody to ever play.
(40:28):
And so I just felt like the last heever many years,
he's kind of been discredited and hasn't been getting this
just doing and I think that's wrong. And look what
he did for Oklahoma City. Look what he did, right,
So he convinces Paul George to go to Oklahoma City
(40:48):
and then Paul George gets traded to the Clippers for
SGA and a bunch of first round picks. What if
Westbrook didn't do that, Oklahoma City would not be what
they are right now. And so, if anything, credit him
for convincing Paul Georgia come to Oklahoma City. SGA gets
traded to Oklahoma City for Paul George and a bunch
(41:10):
of first round picks, and the rebuild was on. And
look what they've done with that rebuild. But Russell Westbrook
is a top five point guard ever in the history
of the NBA in my opinion, what he has done
in the game, and then outside of that, what he's
done in the city of Los Angeles for these kids,
(41:32):
his AAU program. Why not a lot of things that
he that he does, it goes unnoticed because not many
people talk about it because he's not talking about it.
But he does a lot for the young kids out
here in the LA area. And so for me to him,
congratulations on the hell of a career, and the people
that discredit him, shame on them.
Speaker 6 (41:51):
Yeah, man, kudos of Russell Westbrook. Man, I really believe that,
you know, he was at a point in his career where,
you know, what if he had opportunities to play other places,
but he wanted to come off the bench. But also, man,
he played eleven years in Kansas, he played eleven years
in OKC, and then out of the last six years,
he's played on six different basketball teams. So I kind of,
(42:13):
you know, feel that he didn't want to turn into
a journeyman himself, and he was able to walk away
from the game, you know, with his resume, you know
what I mean, His resume speaks for himself with his
fifth all time in assists in fourteen, that's going on
the NBA scoring list. So I don't really think there
was really too much for him to do but to
go out and chase a championship, but Russell Rustbrook I
(42:35):
don't think has that kind of personality to really just
going to chasing championships.
