Speaker 3 (00:24):
Don't poke the bed, man.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's a show with three of the best to ever
do it on and off the field, and not live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Here's Pro Bowler T.J.
Houshmandzada and Super Bowl champion Plaxico Burress.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Welcome to End Up On Game, Fox Sports Radio. I'm T.J. Houshmandzada,
and I'm joined by Mr. Plaxico Burress-Lavard, you know, he's
a During his college football season. He's a busy man.
So it's just me and my dog, Mr.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Burris.

Speaker 2 (00:59):

Go ahead and tweet us. Go ahead and tweet us.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
The Patriots and the Seahawks with Sam Darnold getting hurt, A.J.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Brown going down. So we got a lot of football
to talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I guess they must have told Kyle, hey, Kyle, go
ahead and put your foot on their throat, man. We'll
slide you a little contract extension. That was a little
quiet extension that he signed, and we'll get in that
as well.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
But before we do, Mr. Burns, how you doing over there, man? Oh, man,
everything's great, man. It's a beautiful Saturday, man. I'm here
in South Bend for Notre Dame's first home game at 3.30.
Eastern Standard Town, they're playing against Rice. And I'm just excited, man.
Like you said, it's a good time of the year,
college football. And just excited to see my son play

(02:18):
this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, man, I've been trying to tune in and catch
the Notre Dame games to see when Elijah is going
to get. I don't know, man. I don't know what
these coaches be doing, bro. I don't know. I get
wanting to play upperclassmen because you feel comfortable, but I'm
playing the most talented.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
That's just me.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
And maybe I'm biased, but I'm playing the most. I
done trained a bunch of dudes, and these dudes are
all making at least $ 20- something.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Million a year.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
And I'm sitting here like, I know what my eyes
tell me. And if Notre Dame has four receivers better
than your son, they winning the national championship. So if
they don't, I don't know what's going on over there.
That's all I'm going to say. But over here is great, man.
Clear skies, palm trees, man. The weather is great. It

(03:13):
was weird, man. We had some rain the other day.
But it was rain and it was still hot. So
I'm like, oh, man, no. Man, global warming is a
real thing. We in Florida or something.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's definitely a real thing. It was very, very odd.
I was like, it is raining all day, but it's hot. So, yeah,
that was something different. But let's get into what we
witnessed Thursday. And I don't know, and maybe I did
say that, say this on this show. I felt like

(03:47):
the Rams, I think they're going to lose two to
three games in a regular season. walked their way into
the Super Bowl as an NFC headliner. Well, the 49ers
said not so fast. Y'all must have forgot about us
on over here up in the Bay Area. Dude, the

(04:09):
Rams couldn't move the ball and the Niners ran the
ball at will and obviously Kyle going to come up
with schemes offensively to get them yards off the Mike
Evans was very good. Deebo was very good. Christian McCaffrey
was very good. Ricky running back from Indiana, Kalen Black,
was very good. I'm trying to figure out the number

(04:32):
one offense in the league last year with the Los
Angeles Rams was nonexistent. Matthew Stafford didn't play well. Puka
played okay. Devontae didn't get going. Does... It concerned you
the Rams lost the way they lost. And are you thinking, man,
they may be a bit overhyped?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I think one thing that surprised me is surprised everybody
else was the lack of offense. You know, here we
are talking about Matthew Stafford being NFL MVP of last season.
And the headline coming into the, you know, this season
is that the Rams are going to win it all.
And then as soon as Aaron, Aaron Donald, you know,
rejoin the team, it was, the narrative went to, can

(05:15):
the Rams go undefeated? I'm like, wait a minute. I mean,
now we're talking about being undefeated. But, you know, just
looking at this game, I think we all last week,
everybody agreed that the San Francisco 49ers didn't have a
chance to win that game. Just based off of the
mere fact of, you know, the offense, Sean McVay, Matthew Stafford,

(05:36):
Miles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, to bolster that defense. But, If
you would have told me that the 49ers would have
came out and ran the ball for 174 yards at
5.8 a clip, I would have told you he was lying.
And because you're just looking at all the devastating injuries
that the 49ers had last year, how is George Kittle

(05:56):
going to be? How is Nick Bosa going to look?
How is 54? Fred Warner. Fred Warner. How is Fred
Warner going to cover? Greenlaw. And they all look like
they didn't miss a beat. I mean, they came out
on the football field like they was basically in mid-season
form defensively. I think that's what shocked me more than anything. But,

(06:20):
you know, kudos to my guy Mike Evans, man, out
there looking like he had missed a step and dominating
on the edge, making plays for Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy
played well. But if you're the Rams and if you're
looking at, you know, the way that they, you know,
perform in that game, everybody's making excuses about flying to
Australia and, all of those kind of things. I think

(06:41):
it's going to wake the Rams up moving forward. I
don't think that's something that you're going to see from them,
you know, for the rest of the season. It was
a good wake-up for them, but to lose that game
in that fashion in the division, your antennas have to
go up a little bit. And just like you say,
are the Rams overhyped? We don't know, but it was
definitely a good start for the season for the 49ers.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
And when you look, obviously, the Niners get this, oh,
they're an older team, you know. The guys, they older.
When the season starts, them older players feel good.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
We're ready to go. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
And so coming out of the gate, we, at least
I felt like, it was going to be a tough game.
Once they said Aaron Donald wasn't playing, I said, this
may go. The Niners wait. It's one game. And historically,
the Niners have done well. Well, Kyle Shanahan has done
well against McVay. But it's just one game. And one

(07:42):
of 17, I know people, oh, everybody that feel like
the Rams is going to do this and that.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
They're just going to say it's one game.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
The older players, and we were all older players at
one point in time, if you played long enough. Man,
them first three, four, five weeks of the season, we
feel good. It's the accumulation of practice, the accumulation of
the games.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
That starts to get to us.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
And so if Kyle Shanahan can manage that part of
it with Trent Williams, the best offensive lineman in football,
Fred Warner, the best off-ball backer in football, George Kittle,
once he starts to round in the form, arguably the
best tight end in football, Christian McCaffrey, arguably the best

(08:29):
running back. How many teams can say that? How many
teams can say we have the best player at his position?
And the 49ers could say that with four guys. And so,
you know, they're going to be good. You know, Kyle
Shanahan is going to dial some things up. You said
it earlier. Mike Evans was lights out, played very well.

(08:50):
Debo played very well. The key is, can they maintain this?
And if they can maintain it, the NFC is going
to be. You can't pick a winner. You're looking with
the Seahawks. Not right now. The Rams are going to
be better. Are the Rams overhyped? No. The Rams aren't overhyped.

(09:11):
They made a mistake as we all– because you've got
to criticize them. When you fly in two days before
the game, whereas the Niners got there a week before
the game, now you open yourself up to criticism because
had you won the game, it was, oh, yeah, McVay, man,
they did a great.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Job with this, you know. You lose. You lose. And
so now you open yourself up to criticism. So what
is the time difference for Australia? Is it a whole
day ahead?

Speaker 2 (09:38):
No, I believe it's 16 hours. It's 16 or 17 hours.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
That's a lot, man. It's so.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
They just going to New York or something. Two days ahead.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
I get like just going from east to west coast.
I mean, you talking about 16 hours? That's an adjustment
that you can't make. in two days. It's just not
logical for the players to get on the same page
from that long of a flight, man.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
I can't say they're overhyped, but the way they lost
was concerning because now moving forward, I mean, you have
to have the mind of Kyle Shanahan. You have to
have the players of the Niners. The majority of the
team is just going to run the ball at them.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
No, they're not. Did they insert Aaron Donald back into
that defensive line? They're going to try to run the
ball at them. They're going to try, and it's not
going to happen. Yeah, yeah, once you get a– Because
even you just said it, if Aaron Donald was in
that game, it would have been a whole different narrative.
I believe it's a different game. To the game.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
It's a different game because the second topic, once we
take this break, we're going to get into, man, he
was on the milk cart, man. He was non-existent. We
haven't even said his name is Myles Garrett. We're going
to get into that because when you have the excitement,
the expectations of Myles Garrett and what he did, we

(11:08):
will get into that. And then Aaron Donald didn't play,
so in essence, you put Your two best defensive players,
they weren't there. They didn't show up, so to speak.
And so we'll get into that, but you can't say,
at least I won't say the Rams overhyped. I believe
they can still reach and do everything that they planned

(11:29):
on doing this season, but they're going to need help.
Matthew Stafford, that offense, number one offense, come on, man.
You can't throw for 100-something yards when everybody's saying they're
going to walk their way to the Super Bowl, they
put out a list of greatest teams ever. You know
this year's Rams team was on the list?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Come on, man.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
They were on the list. Stop it, man. And I
literally said, how could this team be on the list?
And they haven't even played a game yet. People were
putting this Rams team on the list of greatest teams ever.
And the crazy part about it, if I'm not mistaken–
They put a top ten list out. They weren't ten.

(12:12):
They were like six or seven. And I'm like, wait, wait, wait.
Where is this coming from? And so the hype for
what many believe the Rams can be, it's fair. But
that's why the games are played on the field and
not on paper.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Because on paper, it looks like, wow. But when you
put that ball on the field and the refs get
out there and you got 11 on each side, you
got a show.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
And tell now. But we're going to take a break.
We're going to come in. We're going to get into
the Miles Garrett not playing well. We're going to get in.
Is it concerning with A.J. Brown now getting put on IR?
Sam Darnold missing multiple weeks. So it's a lot of
key players. injured early in the season. We'll get into that.

Welcome back in the Up On Game. That is Plaxico Burris.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
I am T.J.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Houshmandzada. And before we went to break, we talked about it.
Miles Garrett, he'll be fine. But, man, you open the
first game of the season, you're going against the best
offensive lineman in the game of football in Trent Williams,
arguably maybe in the history of the league, he's been

(14:09):
good from, Start to finish, it seems like that's what
it's going to be. Zero pressures. Zero sacks. Zero tackle
for losses. Zero breathing on the court. He ain't do nothing.
He was just out there for decoration.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Are you worried? I'm not worried. You know, 40 snaps
and you go 0 for no hits on the quarterback,
no sacks, no tackles for losses, no tackles, period. But
I'm going to give Miles Garrett the benefit of the doubt. Obviously,
you know, he's been, you know, one of the most dominant,
you know, figures at the position over the last decade.

(14:50):
I mean, obviously setting the sack record last year. I'm
going to give him the benefit of the doubt because,
you know, he missed most of the training camp and
all of the preseason with a knee injury. So, you know,
I'm not saying it's an excuse, but. You know, he
did mention that, you know, it was on his mind
while he was playing and he was playing through some
knee pain. I mean, if you go back and look at,

(15:14):
you know, the game and you say to yourself, you know,
he did not look explosive as we are used to
seeing Miles Garrett look. So I'm going to just, you know,
go off of what he said that, you know, he's
paying through some knee pain. He was thinking about injury
during the game. And you know that, you know, when
you're on the football field, And if you're thinking about

(15:36):
an injury, then you're really not focused on the job
at hand because we all know that football is 99%
mental and 1% physical. He may have been okay, but
the fact that he did not get a lot of
reps during training camp or any preseason games leads me
to believe that he was not 100%. And am I

(15:58):
worried about him moving forward? Absolutely not. And I'm not
going to dismiss the fact that he was playing against
Trent Williams, which is, like you said, one of the
greatest left tackles we've ever seen. So I'm not just
putting it all on Myles Garrett and saying he wasn't healthy.
I mean, Trent Williams had something to do with that
too because I believe if he would not have been

(16:19):
playing against Trent Williams, he would have had some sacks
and being able to get to the quarterback. But with
all that being said, I think moving forward, he would
not put together another performance like we witnessed the other
night because we just know that it's totally uncharacteristical for

(16:40):
him the way that he played.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
I don't know if he can afford to put that
type of performance. You're not playing in Cleveland anymore. You're
playing in Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
It's just more eyes on you. The expectations now every game.
If he didn't play well in Cleveland, it would be
the Cleveland Browns loss.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
You don't play well in L.A. But TJ, when you're
like the defensive player of the year and you're going
to a team that is a Super Bowl contender, it
doesn't matter where they're playing, but it's Miles Garrett and
you set the NFL sack record last season. It doesn't
matter if he was playing for the Arizona Cardinals. He
will be criticized more. That's all I'm saying. He's going

(17:21):
to receive more criticism. That's all I'm saying is more
eyes is on you. People expect you to do X, Y,
and Z, and when you don't do it. Of course
they do. When you go out there and do the
things that he's been doing for the last decade. But
now because there's.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
So many more people that are reporting on you, there's
going to be so many more people.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
That have something to say. And so for Miles Garrett, yeah,
it's one game. It just sucks that that one game
is against a division rival. In a fashion that happens. Yeah,
you had a knee problem. You're not feeling good. So
now you're not in the type of shape that you

(18:05):
need to be in because you ain't been practicing in
training camp. So you fly so many hours to Australia.
So now your body hasn't gotten acclimated to it. You're
not in the type of shape you need to be.
You haven't been getting the reps in practice. But now if.
He plays the Niners the next game, and he has

(18:28):
a good game, and Aaron Donald is playing. There's going
to be many that are going to say, yeah, this
is what happened with Aaron Donald in the game. You're
able to get off and do things you otherwise would
not do without Aaron Donald.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Oh, yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
That's what's going to happen now is if and when
he plays the Niners again and he has a great game,
it's going to be just the Aaron Donald effect. And
that's where you open yourself up to that. I'm not concerned.
It doesn't worry me that Myles Garrett didn't play well.
Myles Garrett has built a career on playing extremely well

(19:05):
against the best competition since he's gotten into the league.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
So it does not concern me. But when he gets 0-99.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Back on that defensive line with him, just understand a
lot of the credit may be given now to Aaron
Donald that, oh, Yeah, he helped them. They had to
double him. Because now they know they don't have to
double Myles Garrett. Yes, they do. Come on, TJ, don't
do that. No, I'm talking about San Francisco. The San
Francisco 49ers are not doubling Myles Garrett at all. If

(19:37):
he's 100%, I believe that he can still get at
Trent Williams.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
I believe you. After what I just saw. Trent Williams
is not going to throw a shutout against a healthy
Myles Garrett. He just did. did. I'm going to give
Myles Garrett the benefit of the doubt, like I said.
He wasn't healthy.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
It got so bad, they started moving him to the
other side.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Man. I'm just telling you. So you mean to tell
me a healthy Myles Garrett playing against a healthy Trent Williams–
Trent Williams is going to shut him out just like
game one the other night. You believe that? You don't
believe that. I mean, it's not going to happen often,
but it happened.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
So, if it happened one time, I'm sure it can
happen two.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
I know Trent Williams good. I know he's great. And
I believe Miles Garrett is great. But to throw a
shutout against a healthy Miles Garrett, I don't see that happening.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
I mean, you've done it once. Like, what makes me
believe you can't do it twice? And that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
And a lot of it, and this is what the
Niners did that was, I wouldn't say, you don't run
away from Myles Garrett. You run right at him. And
they were running at him. And we're going to attack you.
We're not going to let you chase from behind. We're
going to run the ball right at you. And that's
what they did. And you're saying that's totally the trip-weaving effect.

(20:54):
That's Kyle Shanahan, Trent. It's the whole offensive line. But
if you're going against Trent Williams trying to sack the
quarterback and you don't even know what deodorant Brock Purdy
had on.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Brock Purdy wasn't even hit. He wasn't even sacked once.
He was hit twice in the whole entire football game.
So what about the rest of the guys on the
defensive line? Dang, Miles Garrett. Oh, come on, man. We
was already talking about how good this Rams defense was
prior to Miles Garrett getting there. So what happened? Where

(21:25):
were the other players at? Hey, on the milk carton.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Missing. Hey, you know who we need to get credit for?
We ain't brought his name up one time, man.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
No lie. We got to get credit. Hey, Raheem. Yes. Yes.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Hey. Did I do him a disser? Listen, Coach Morris,
great job. He shut the Rams down.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I mean, Raheem has always been a great defensive line, though.
He was in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
That defense did a hell of a job against Sean
McMahon at Rams offense. Matthew Stafford did a hell of
a job. He did a hell of a job with
that defense. And it's easy to coordinate, right, when you
got good players. You see how that works? You know,
they was all in Atlanta. Well, we got to get
rid of him. And they get rid of him. He

(22:17):
go to a team with dogs, and it's like, oh, man.
He know what he doing.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Yeah, the crazy thing about Raheem, man, he's always been
a great defensive mind ever since I've known him and
been in this league. But it's just unfortunate that he
hasn't had a lot of success with being the head
coach of the Falcons and obviously Tampa Bay. But when
you give him the call sheet defensively, you know, I
believe that he's a different coach. And it has showed

(22:45):
in some places that he has been. But just like
you said, man, you give him some good athletes. And
he's going to drop a defense, you know, to slow
you down. But I think the job that he did
the other day against Matthew Stafford, I believe he completed
only like 15 passes or whatever.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Hey, let me ask you this, bro. I'm just sitting here.
As you were speaking, I was just thinking about this.
Tell me, and it will be quick, but we got
to get out low. Think about what I'm about to say.
First round pick, 13th overall, Ty Simpson. Second round pick,
61st overall, Max Clear. Third round pick, 93 overall, guard,

(23:24):
Keegan Trust. Sixth round pick, receiver, C.J.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Daniels.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
So forth and so on. Hey, the Rams draft this year,
not one of those guys did anything.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Not one. I mean, does that bother you? No, it
doesn't bother me. But how many rookies really come into
this league in their first year and on the opening
night of the season and really go out and make
a splash? I ain't got to make a splash. Just
do something. We were all excited about Deshaun Stripling. Obviously,

(24:01):
you know, he went down with an injury. Everybody's been talking.
You know how good this young man is going to be.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
But he got in the game.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
All those guys. I could be wrong. I don't think
they got in the game.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
But do you think a lot of these coaches are
drafting guys to play them immediately?

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Hey, you know in our area, if you're the first-round pick,
your ass is getting on the field. The first round,
maybe second you might get some snaps.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Yeah, maybe second round. First round, 100%. You're on the field. Yeah.
After the first round.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Second round, it's a great probability that you're going to
at least get 15 snaps.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
You're not looking for these guys after the first round
to go out and contribute and add value to your
football team. That's not why these coaches draft these guys
later on in these rounds. The only, I guess, excuse
I'd make for them is when you're a Super Bowl
contending team, you got your guys.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
You ready to go at damn near every position. And
so if Ricky can come in and play, That's icing
on the cake, but you're not expecting him to come
in and play a role, but that is somewhat a problem.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Not one rookie. That's a problem for.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Me, but when you're a Super Bowl contender, then you say, okay,
ain't no rookie really going to do too much on
that team, but for the most part, you go to
all these teams. Look at their first-round picks. They're getting
on the field. They're getting on the field. Now, the
Raiders and Fernando Mendoza, but He won't put the second round.
They on the field. Second round picks, they on the field.

(25:37):
Because you got to get these young guys in the
game and see if they can help the team. But, yeah,
we concerned about Miles Garrett?

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Nah.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
But, man, you can't be putting up goose eggs across
the board.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
No, sir.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
You cannot be putting up them goose eggs across the board.
We got to go talk to our guy, man. He
going to give us these updates, and we going to
get right back into it with this National Football League.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Allo. Isaac Lawrence. Hello.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
All I know is if Oregon State and Michigan State
were playing right now, you guys would still be doing
the show.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Yeah, yeah. You know that. We committed to the show, Ilo.
We committed. No doubt, man. Hey, Ilo. Yeah. We're here
for you, baby. We're here for you, Ilo.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
I'm glad some people aren't. I mean, boy, what a
delicate doily that guy is. Anyway, we'll get to his
school in just a moment. Number five, Indiana hosting Howard.
Let's find out how the defending nationals champs are doing
from the legendary Don Fisher on WHCC.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Here's the snap.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Hoover wants to throw it. Does Johnny Becker.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Touchdown, Indiana. That was easy as pie.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Becker literally just made a little slant run into the
end zone and Hoover hit him with nobody on him.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Second touchdown of the day already between Josh Hoover and
Charlie Becker. That extra point was missed. It's 13 to nothing.
Fifth ranked Indiana over Howard. 242 left to play in
the first quarter. Number six, Oregon at Oklahoma State. The
kickoff of that game has been delayed by lightning in
the area. Tenth-ranked Texas A & M up 7-0 over

(27:16):
Arizona State. 4.55 left to play in the first quarter
on a two-yard run by Reuben Owens for the Texas
A & M touchdown. Michigan and 11th-ranked Oklahoma are scoreless.
Six minutes and 40 seconds left to play in the
first quarter. Let's check in on number 16, Penn State.

(27:37):
They are playing Temple at the Link in Philadelphia. A
short time ago, Penn State returned an interception down to
the Temple five-yard line but could not score.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Mama, no!

Speaker 4 (27:50):
They went for it on fourth and goal from the Temple, too,
but their pass fell incomplete.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Mama, no!

Speaker 4 (27:57):
So it is scoreless Penn State against Temple after the
first quarter there. And in the NFL, Green Bay Packers
tight end Tucker Kraft agreed to a four-year, $ 75 million extension.
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer agreed to a three-year,
$ 45 million extension. Guys, back to you.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Man, everybody's signing extensions. Congratulations to those players.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
TJ, where are our extensions? Ain't nobody gave us no extension. Nah,
we can't get no extension. Ilo, we got to get
you an extension too, man.

Speaker 4 (28:27):
Already done, but thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Hey, man. Penn State can't even score against them. They
need to do away with them. No disrespect to the
Indiana and the Howard games, man. You don't need no
warm-up games, man. Let's just get straight to it.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Get it.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Straight to it. Now, I know who got straight to it,
and it's kind of unfortunate, man.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
A.J.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Brown, he on IR now, high ankle sprain, so he's
missing four games.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
Four?

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Yeah, when you go to IR, it's a mandatory. You
got to miss four games. Mandatory four.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
A.J. Brown has a high ankle sprain, I believe. History
has taught me that it's basically a six- to eight-week injury,
high ankle sprain. so it must be.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Like a mild high ankle sprain because it didn't look
that bad it didn't look that bad and it man
that is painful though i had one and it is
oh i think i think every receiver has had a
high ankle sprain at some point oh my goodness at
some point every receiver majority of running backs just the

(29:38):
way especially the way he used to do the hip
drop tackle back then, and it was, it wasn't a
big deal. Yeah. And so, he's headed to ours. Sam Darnold,
he may miss multiple games because of his hip injury.
It hadn't really come out. Two teams that obviously played
in the Super Bowl against each other, they opened up

(30:00):
the NFL season with the Seahawks winning defensive battle on
both sides of the ball. What are your takeaways from
that and the injuries to two of the better players.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
On each team? I think for, you know, for Drake May,
you know, I think it's going to slow down, you know,
his progress and gathering a rapport with A.J. Brown because
obviously that's why they brought him in to be the alpha,
to be the number one wide receiver that, you know, he,
you know, needs to get over the hump if they

(30:31):
want to compete and win a world championship. I mean,
the season that he had last year with one of
the worst wide receiver groups in the league, you know,
shows me that, you know, this young man is talented.
He can really play. But I think they was really
hanging their hat on A.J. Brown to really kind of
just open up this passing game and open up this

(30:52):
running game and get him out there on the edge
and draw some double teams so they can run the
ball more effectively with Henderson. But You know, it sucks because,
you know, the expectations was high. I think everybody was
really curious to see what A.J. Brown was going to
bring to this team in his offense with all the,
you know, everything that was going on in Philadelphia. You know,

(31:14):
he was happy to be there. But obviously he's going
to take the field, you know, probably in the next
five or six weeks. So he will be back. But
I just don't think when you have a high ankle sprain,
maybe because it's early in the year, first game of
the season, that you will get back to 100%, you know,
in the second half of the season. So, you know,

(31:36):
so I think they'll be okay. But, you know, the
performance that Drake may have the other night, three interceptions
in the fourth quarter, that just can't happen. It's just
crazy just not making good decisions, turning the football over,
three picks in the fourth quarter. So they're definitely going–
and I know Mike Vable will definitely clean that up.
But if you're looking at Sam Donald, I mean, you know–

(32:00):
Sam Donald is basically this offense. So if he's not in,
you know, I don't even– who is the backup for
Sam Donald who's going to be moving on? Drew Locke.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Drew Locke.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
So, you know, Drew Locke is a veteran. He has
not had a whole lot of success, you know, even
when he was in Denver and now he's in Seattle.
But these guys are coming off the Super Bowl. I mean,
they're a Super Bowl, you know, caliber football team. and
one of the competitive divisions in all of football, the
NFC West. So hopefully Drew Locke can get in there,

(32:35):
play well enough, control the football, manage the game, and
just don't tank this team early on in the season
so they don't have a chance to compete to get
into the playoffs. So hopefully he can win two or
three games and save the seat for Sam Donner when
he gets back. A.J. Brown being back.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
That's a problem for the Patriots considering they had the
game right there in their hands. I felt the game
turn when Romeo Dobbs dropped that ball. Um, but we,
as we said, we going to drop balls. You not
going to catch every ball thrown your way. That is
just inevitable. You are going to drop balls for him.
It just sucks that he dropped it in that moment.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
People are off. We had Asia.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
He would have caught that. He may have caught that,
but it's going to be a problem. Um, if you're
the Patriots and A.J. Brown cannot be healthy for the
season when he returns, because like you said, that high
ankle sprain, depending on the severity of it, it's a
long injury. It really is a long, it's nothing you

(33:43):
can really do. Well, maybe the rehab process is a
little different now that we out there. They've come up
with where they can expedite it from six to eight
to four to six or three to five, whatever it
may be. But with the Seahawks, If Drew Locke has
to play an extended time, they're not winning three, four games.
They won that game not because of Drew Locke. They

(34:06):
won that game because the defense were intercepting Drake Mayne.
He was just throwing them straight meatballs to the defense like,
what are we doing? He was giving it away. He
was giving it away. I mean, the score was 13-10.
If Drake Mayne doesn't turn the ball over the way
that he turned it over, the Seahawks lose that game.

(34:29):
And so Drew Locke is going to have to be
remarkably better because the defense can't play any better. The
defense played as good as they could play. The Seattle
Seahawks defense. And so what for me is concerning, and
I've said this, I felt like the Seahawks would take
a step back because offensive coordinator is now with the Raiders.

(34:52):
They're breaking a new offensive coordinator, and we don't know
what he can do. They need all the reps they
can get. When I say they, Sam Darnold and the
offensive coordinator in the game together. So now they're not
going to have that. So that really, really, really concerns me.
But we'll see. We know the defense is going to
play well. Mike McDonald's a hell of a coach. But
it is, at least for me, a concerning thing. Welcome

(35:14):
back in up on game, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
That's Mr. Plexico Burris and I am T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

And early in the show, I spoke on this and

(35:44):
we don't have a lot of time. And the 49ers,
they did this like they didn't have a lot of time,
you know, The Niners and Kyle Shanahan smacked the rounds.
And next thing you know, Kyle Shanahan signs an extension.
It kind of went under the radar, so to speak.
Just out of the blue, Kyle Shanahan signs an extension.

(36:09):
Was it the right thing to do? Nobody knew about it.
Do you like it?

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Well, nobody found out about the accident for 11 days later,
so why would we think? that we would get any
update when he got to the extension. But I get it.
I understand. You know, John Lynch, the relationship, obviously, you know,
with his dad and, you know, Mike Shanahan and now

(36:35):
that Kyle Shanahan is, you know, the coach, I get it.
Just really trying to create some stability within that organization.
You know, I've said countless times that I thought, I
think that these 49ers windows has closed on, you know,
reaching the Super Bowl, even though they did have a

(36:56):
good performance the other night against the Rams. But, I mean,
who are you going to get as a head coach
better than Kyle Shanahan out there? And that's available. Not many.
Kyle Shanahan has been good, but he just has not
been able to win the big games. Obviously, the Super
Bowl and the playoffs and, you know, losing that game.

(37:20):
last year at home to be number one in the
NFC West, and Seattle comes in and beats them on
your home field, games like that that he has not
been able to win. He's not a bad coach. I
think he's one of the best young offensive minds in
all of football. And when you look at the future

(37:42):
of Brock Purdy and the potential that he has to
be a really good quarterback, You know, why take him
away from a coach that he has a good relationship with,
understands the playbook, and, you know, is really, you know,
kind of blossoming into being one of these good young
quarterbacks in all this league. Why take that away from him?
So I get it. I understand. So he's going to

(38:03):
be there for a few more years. Obviously, the team
is getting a little older, especially with some of the injuries, Kittle, Debo,
you know, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, some of those guys,
Trent Williams, obviously he's Seems like he's been there for
like two decades. Team is getting older, but, you know,
I get it. I understand. John, you know, Lynch wants

(38:24):
Couch in the hand to run this team, and that's
why they gave him the extension. Hey, it's finally some
good news. I mean, you know, all offseason, it was
a talk of IUK, and then the owner basically dealing
with some– Little issues and a little problem.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
You know, a little roach motel, $ 140 worth, you know. Sorry,
it's bright. Hey, man, $ 140 a month, what you doing? But, hey,
you know, they saving money on one end so they
can give.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Money on the other end. I guess that's how we
look at it. But it's, to me, it's very warranted
if I'm the Niners.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Kyle Shanahan ain't going to be my coach until he
says he doesn't want to coach anymore. That's how good
of a coach I believe he is. He's one of
the better coaches in the National Football League. People will
point to, oh, he still hadn't won a Super Bowl.
I'd rather have a chance to win a Super Bowl
than be a coach. watching everybody else have a chance
to win a Super Bowl and so he's consistently put

(39:35):
his teams in a position to have a chance to
win a Super Bowl and so for Kyle Shanahan and
the San Francisco 49ers smart move congratulations you you When
you know you have a good coach, just like when
you know you have a good player, you got to
keep them around. Because it can be a lot worse
than what you have. And I know a lot of

(39:56):
the fans kind of, oh, man, we lose it. Kyle
Shanahan's a great coach. Be thankful you got him. Because
before Shanahan, it wasn't looking that good. Y'all had hardball.
But the coaches in between and all that, it wasn't good.
And everybody knows that.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
And so.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Don't get greedy. Understand what you have. Appreciate what you have.
And it was absolutely the right thing to do, at
least for me. I think Shannon had a hell of
a coach. Great offensive mind. The way he just dismantled
the rounds, bro, that tells you all you need to know.
And so kudos to him. Wish him nothing but the best. But, yeah,

(40:36):
if I'm John Lynch and I'm that 49er team, we
are staying together as long as they'll take us. And
we got to take a break. We'll be back. That's
Plaxico Burris. I'm TJ Hushamazada, up on game, Fox Sports Radio.
