executives around the league. He believes there is a hierarchy
of a top three. Okay, it's Miami, right, it's Cleveland, yes,

And Schalms's report yesterday was that Lebron is seriously considering
the Philadelphia seventies.

I mean the second the second they got Jalen Brown,
I told you Lebron James. So here's why I think
this is such a good play for Lebron James. He's
the guy that can go into Philadelphia, right, and he's
the guy that can help bring together Jalen Brown, Joel Embiid,
Maxy Edgecombe Man. That's a good starting five when you

would sert Lebron into it. But he's the blue guy,
you know what I'm saying, Like, if he's the guy
that could trust the process, and if the process been
you know, all the way till twenty to twenty six,
We're going to get Lebron James on the league minimum,
and that's the end of the process. Lebron James is
that's a good way to finish it is in that city,
for that team in that market, to help them.

Get over the hump. That would be a good way
for him to finish.

Lebron on social media yesterday was bashing the anonymous sources
that were criticizing Jalen Brown and saying, basically, put a
name on it. If you're going to say something like
Jalen Brown is the seventh best player on a team,
put a name on it. And if I'm Lebron James,
I don't look at these anonymous NBA sources burying Jalen
Brown and think I should stay away.

I'd be thinking keep burying him. I'd be thinking the.

Exact opposite, where the league is now trying to suddenly
convince us that Jalen Brown, who just won a championship
less than two years ago, is somehow the seventh best
player on the team. Like, I'm stuck on that because
it's such a ridiculous narrative. Yes, that has now been
built with Jalen Brown.

So I don't think the league is trying to sell
you on that.

I think there is one NBA analytic guy who's trying
to sell everyone on that that he was the sixth
or seventh best player on the Celtics. And I would
tell that guy to go to hell. I mean, it's
ridiculous again Finals MVP and was in the MVP conversation
for most of this year because his team was very good,
unexpectedly good without Jason Tatum.

Yeah, And I think if you're a Lebron, you look
at Philadelphia and you say, this guy is the guy
that everybody's saying is the problem right now, the guy
that got MVP votes this year, the guy that won
in finals MVP. Your analytics are saying because this is
not even just a one person things too, because the
Portland trail Blazers were like, we don't need to make
another big move.

We got Jahn Morant, right, what's the Blazers? Which is right?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yes, Like like, if you're the Portland Trailblazer, you're in
no position to be turning down getting getting Jalen Brown.
But again, these these analytics departments are telling you Jalen
Brown is a negative player. If you're a Lebron, fine,
I'll sign there, I'll play with him. I'll prove you
guys all wrong.

Right, So for Lebron, this is great, It's such a
great thing. Right, he could be the guy that helps
HIMBIID win a title. He could be the guy that
proves to everyone that Jalen Brown isn't the six to
seventh best player on his own roster. He's a lot
better than that. He's one of the best players in
the NBA. He can kind of bring Edgecomb along, Right,
he could teach him showing the ropes, you know, Lebron
loves doing that, and he could show Maxi how to win.

I mean, what a spot for Lebron. He covers all
the bases here. It's a grand Slam for Lebron James.

The more you think about Philadelphia, the more it feels
like a gift has been put in front of Lebron
James because every championship this late in his career is
going to be about legacy. Yes, winning next to a
player that the basketball world is trying to diminish would
make this accomplishment even louder. Winning next to somebody like
Joe Embiid, who has never made it to a conference finals, right,

would be a massive accomplishment where it's like, not only
could Lebron win another title with this group, I am
winning with this island of misfits in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yes, imagine, I mean, seriously, like, imagine Lebron James winning
a title with those four guys in that city. And
I gotta be honest with you, Taylor, it's the Celtics fault.
The idea that the Celtics traded Jalen Brown inside the division,
inside the conference and made that roster so appealing that
Lebron James is fine. It's one of his final three teams,

and I believe that Philadelphia is the favorite. This is
on the Celtics, and this is on Jason Tatum. This
is on Jason Tatum for not stepping up and speaking up, saying, hey,
you know what, I could deal with Jlen Brown. He's
a great player. He's not the sixth or seventh best
player on the team. He's one A or one B
on this team, and I want him around here. Jason
Tatum never did that. Jason Tatum wanted Jalen Brown out.

And now look what looks Look at what has happened here.
I can't speak for some reason. He has made the Celtics,
have made the Sixers roster so attractive by the addition
of Jalen Brown, that Lebron James wants to end his
career in Philadelphia. It's unbelievable. The Celtics should be ashamed
of themselves. Brad Stevens, you should be ashamed of yourself.

If you're a Lebron James and you're looking if this
move for you is about silencing the doubters, because Lebron
James for as great a basketball player he is. Yeah,
he has doubters, and I'm sitting next to one of
them right now.

Two types of people in the world. People that admit
that Lebron James is the best basketball player ever and

imagine Lebron comes in and says, hey, we're going to
bypass that conference final thing. I'm taking us all the
way to the finals, right and then maybe winning a championship.
I mean that's pretty good. That's a pretty good way
to end it. So the Knicks are out, huh?

I mean it seems like it seems very unlikely at
this point that the Knicks are going to be involved
in this.

Yeah, what do you make of him saying it was
Rich Paul who said, if the Knicks had it won
a championship a year ago, Lebron would be headed to
It's the New York Knicks.

It's the easiest thing as well, it's the easiest thing
in the world to say if Jessica Alba would consider
marrying me, I would consider marrying That's the level of
ridiculous today is like something that is never gonna happen,
something that has no consequences of saying it's gonna happen.

Yeah, it's well, it feels fine, other than there's no
paychecks coming in anymore, so the bank account is going
the wrong way. But no, no, it feels good. It's
been such a less thing. I've been around way too much.
My kids are probably getting sick of me, but yeah,
just being able to be all in the summer. Kids
are around, we're on the pool, we're in the lake.

We're just having a good time and coaching their sports.
So that's been busy. I'm about two hours a day
on the baseball field consistently between the two boys and
then playing soccer with my daughter. So it's been full
time dad mode this summer.

If I told you you were undrafted, So if I
told you when you you know, when you signed your
first contract, you were going to play thirteen seasons in
the NFL, you would have told me what.

I mean, I would have been like, you're crazy. Probably

that point i'd have been like, no, yeah, that's easy,
I'm going to play fifteen. I had a little bit
of a delusional mindset through my career of like how
good I was or how good I could be, which
I think helped me kind of, like, you know, just

be able to kind of try to meet those high
expectations have for myself, and to do that you got
to grind, and so I really put a high standard
on myself to make sure that when I was here
in Lake Tahoe for.

I was out here running routes on the lawn like
every morning, crazy, and I was making sure that I
didn't leave any stone unturned because I wanted to be
the best of the best.

When you're running routes out of wherever you're doing it
was Mahome throwing the ball to you, like who was
throwing the balls with that?
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Well, one year Trevor Lawrence through to me, But for
the most part it was like Marty Fish through to me,
one another buddy through to me, and then a lot
of it was just running routes like I can catch
a football. I just need to make sure I'm in
shape and ready for the wear and tear of the
ground and pound of the season. So mostly just running routes,
running fast, doing conditioning things like that.

When you have an undrafted tryout and you eventually make
the team, how difficult is it because they're investing so
many of their resources into the guys that are getting
drafted to where you're coming in undrafted and you kind
of have to realize that I'm not going to get
that many chances here.

receiver at the University of North Carolina.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
I'm a huge tar Heel fans.

Yeah, I mean since I was a little kid up,

like gravitated towards u NC. And I'm a big basketball guy,

So no, I mean it's really crazy looking back at it,
to be honest. Is so when I I came to
rookie camp, I didn't have a contract, and at the
time they just had the draft, they just signed all
these free agents, uh, one of them being a North
Carolina wide receiver, I believe. Anyways, they they already have
the roster, and so for me to make it, they
(15:48):
have to cut somebody that they just gave a signing
bonus to and then they have to sign me. So,
like like you said, they already put these this time
to to see this guy and to research them and
then give them money as well, right, and then and
then they have to give me three days to be
able to prove that I'm better than to cut him,
so right now I get more nervous thinking about then
in the moment, the moment, I was like, I don't care,
(16:09):
like I'm gonna go beat him out, like I'm better
than him. And so it worked out, and they end
up cutting a guy that they just gave up ten
thousand dollars to three days before that, basically to come
and practice for three days, and then they signed me,
which is pretty cool.

We're at the American Century Championships here at Lake Tahoe,
and I was trying to explain to Taylor he's young, okay,
but I saw you on the driving way range with
Jack Wagner.

Can you explain to Taylor not who.

Jack Wagner is, I've done that, but just how important
he is to the proceedings here in Lake Tahoe.

Well, I believe he's been at every one.

Yes, and so not too many guys can say that,
right one y, And he's a legend. And everyone loves Jack.
I mean, I've played with him a few times in
like the I shouldn't even say this, but the older women, yeah,
love Jack Ratner.

My wife was here a couple of years ago. The
only person she wanted to meet was Jack?

Yeah, yes, I mean he is an unbelievable guy.

I love him.

We've got a great relationship, played a ton of golf together.
And he looks great. I mean you would never guess
how old he is and he looks awesome.

Yes, and he's still doing it. I'm like, dude, can

He's on like season fourteen of the show and he's
going to Vancouver for months to film it. I'm like,
come on, man, like time for you to just play
golf and or life.

What makes this place so special? This tournament's so special.

Man, It's so good. I think it's just the atmosphere.

You just it feels like a pro tour is man,
and we all think that we're pro golfers right now,
we're farthest from it. Yes, you can possibly get right
when you come out here and you got the ropes,
you got the fans, you got the prorams, and you
got this big build up, you got the events, and
then you get to seventeen and you got the.

Fandom so cool.

It's there's just no better feeling, you know, like game
day is great, but this is like yes, and this
is out of our element, right, Like, this is something
that we don't you for a living, and then you
show up here and you want to compete, You want
to win every you think you can win. And I've
bet there's sixty to seventy guys who think they're going
to win this thing, even though a lot of them
don't have a chance, including myself.

Well, yes you do.

And so you think you're gonna win it until you
get to the first t box and you duckh hook
it in the woods, and then it's.

Like, oh, well. Billis was telling us a couple of
weeks ago, I don't know what it's like to play
at Augusta, but for a weekend, I feel like I'm
a PGA tour player playing at Augusta. He also said
that if he was not invited back to this event,
his wife would leave him and marry someone else who
was invited to this event.

That's a great point, I went.

I went all the way up till about three or
four weeks ago until I got the invite right, and
so my wife had the divorce papers ready to like
she was like, you.

Are now not cool enough to go to the town
it's my favorite week of the year. So what do
I do Now?

Do you feel more pressure this year since you are
retired Now, like a lot of these NFL guys, they
have training camp in the back of your mind, You've
had a a lot of free time to kind of
prepare for this event.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Now, Yeah, definitely, I definitely put more pressure on myself
going on this year.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
I put more time into it.

So I'm like, if I don't play better, like I
just wasted a lot of time and money. So but no,
it's it's again, it's such a blessing to be out here.
I mean even just sitting right here, I'm like, as
I'm talking to you guys, I'm like, man, I need
to hit some golf balls. Yeah, but it's just a
it's just an event that just gets those competitive juices out.
And like you see these other guys practicing and they

got their swing coaches and they got all this going on.

Yeah, haw annoying is twelve men by the way, I
mean he was listen, he was on with us earlier
and he's like, hey, I've only played three rounds in
the last six months.

more than anyone out. Yes, but he always sets a stage. Oh,
I've been so busy. I've been in eight cities in

on the range, and I say, Taylor, no one cares
about soccer anymore. The USA loss, Like, no one cares anymore.

if I have to empty the dishwasher is like my
greatest fear.

is because you got there's so many steps to it,

I've just there's challenges to it, and there's a lot
you know, parents and oh I know with that kind
of stuff.

And I coach my daughter in lacrosse. Man, you got
to deal with the parents, and you know what you
have to do. You have to tell your kids, tell
you every once in a while.

I got to scream at you just to say, yeah, now,
don't take a personal good point.

I do do that, but it's not for that reason.

Yes, you do it because they.

But but no, I love it, and in fact, I
love it. I love I really love coaching the other kids. Like, yeah,
I love being around my kids and spending more time
with them and helping them through things and sharing some knowledge.

But it's the other kids that.

That I love it, like seeing their progression and seeing
you know, some of the things. Maybe I don't know
what I'm talking about, but sometimes I feel like I do,
and and I love to see the you know, the
positives that come from it, even just from an attitude.

Like for me, like I coach mostly and there's some.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
Technique stuff and all that that I feel like I
can help with, but most of what I coach is
like attitude and effort, which I don't feel is very hard,
but for nine year olds, for some reason, it's really
hard to do. And so my son is the number
one kid like he he is very emotional and he
and he is a perfectionist and he doesn't want to fail,
and so just learning how to fail, which I think
(24:00):
is why sports are so awesome because it forces you.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
To learn how to fail.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
You're going to fail, yes.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
I promise you, no matter who you are, you're going
to fail in sports. And guess what life You're gonna fail.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy.

Do you feel like coaching puts a target on your
kids team? Because if I was a washed up athlete
across from you on the sideline and I saw Adam
Thielen was coaching the other team, it becomes my super Bowl.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
No, definitely, yeah, I gotta beat that team.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
People want to win for that reason, yes, and they
want to show how much better their kid is than
my kids, and so my son ends up getting a lot,
uh you know, like the best efforts of the other players,
which is great for him. So I'm all about it.
I'm fine with that. I'm competitive, so I want to
win too. But I just love the development. I love
these kids just learning how to handle, like I said,
(24:49):
adversity and challenges, and also just the glory of like
they win a game in the last.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
Inning and and they.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
Dog pile of each other, Like we coach the seven
on seven tournament and like we got down to that
my son caught a ball over the middle and gets
down on the on the one inch yard line.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
We had three downs to win the game, and we
didn't do it.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
But it was like so fun for them to feel
that energy and excitement, Like you can't teach that stuff,
and like that's how you fall in love with the
game when they get a feeling of that, and then
it's like, oh, I want this, and I want to
practice more so that when I'm in those moments, I
can I can do it.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
So it's it's it's so fun.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
You tell those parents, by the way, they could be
coaching if they wanted to tell them to put the
time and stop deplating to you.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
You know, no, thankfully, thankfully, no one's complained to me,
But they complained to the other coaches, right, and they
tell us how bad we are at coaching, which it
is what it is.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
I'll get you out here in a second. Could you
see coaching in your future? Is that something that you
would consider?

Yeah, not not at a high level, but sure.

I mean I love I love it, you know, the
higher the level my kids go, it's just fun to
be around it. And again, like I feel like I've
I played four sports throughout high school, so I feel
like I have a lot of abroad understanding of different
sports and just the competitive edge and and mindset and
practice and and how that relates the game. So I

feel like there's a lot of knowledge that I love
I would love to continue to share.

Blessing to just build so many cool, strong relationships over
my thirteen years and just people that respect so much
that don't get a lot of glory or they don't get,
you know, the recognition, but they're just great people and
work hard all for this goal to win a championship
that they're not even they are a part of, but
they're not on the field, right and so that part.

But yeah, game days, you show up to that stadium,
you come on the field to warm up, like there
is no greater feeling, like the end of my career
when I could just like walk on the field and
be like this is amazing, like and I just like
soak it all in, like do my warm up routine,
like felt so good and like didn't care what happened
because it was just so fun to be a part of.

of the bits of advice I've gotten from some friends
of mine who played here in the past is, you know,

don't wear yourself out in the days leading up to
the tournament. Correct, Yes, get out and see the course,
but don't play eighteen every day. And you know if
you do that, it's five six days in a row.
So yes, yeah, nine yesterday. We'll play the pro am
today and probably nine more tomorrow and let's go all right.

bonus to and then they have to sign me. So,

to to see this guy and to research them and

then they have to give me three days to be
able to prove that I'm better than to cut him,
so right now I get more nervous thinking about then
in the moment, the moment, I was like, I don't care,

than him. And so it worked out, and they end
up cutting a guy that they just gave up ten
thousand dollars to three days before that, basically to come
and practice for three days, and then they signed me,

Do you feel like coaching puts a target on your
kids team? Because if I was a washed up athlete
across from you on the sideline and I saw Adam
Thielen was coaching the other team, it becomes my super Bowl.

No, definitely, yeah, I gotta beat that team.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
People want to win for that reason, yes, and they
want to show how much better their kid is than
my kids, and so my son ends up getting a lot,
uh you know, like the best efforts of the other players,
which is great for him. So I'm all about it.
I'm fine with that. I'm competitive, so I want to
win too. But I just love the development. I love
these kids just learning how to handle, like I said,
(24:49):
adversity and challenges, and also just the glory of like
they win a game in the last.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
Inning and and they.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
Dog pile of each other, Like we coach the seven
on seven tournament and like we got down to that
my son caught a ball over the middle and gets
down on the on the one inch yard line.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
We had three downs to win the game, and we
didn't do it.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
But it was like so fun for them to feel
that energy and excitement, Like you can't teach that stuff,
and like that's how you fall in love with the
game when they get a feeling of that, and then
it's like, oh, I want this, and I want to
practice more so that when I'm in those moments, I
can I can do it.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
So it's it's it's so fun.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
You tell those parents, by the way, they could be
coaching if they wanted to tell them to put the
time and stop deplating to you.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
You know, no, thankfully, thankfully, no one's complained to me,
But they complained to the other coaches, right, and they
tell us how bad we are at coaching, which it
is what it is.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
I'll get you out here in a second. Could you
see coaching in your future? Is that something that you
would consider?
Speaker 7 (25:42):
Yeah, not not at a high level, but sure.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
I mean I love I love it, you know, the
higher the level my kids go, it's just fun to
be around it. And again, like I feel like I've
I played four sports throughout high school, so I feel
like I have a lot of abroad understanding of different
sports and just the competitive edge and and mindset and
practice and and how that relates the game. So I

feel like there's a lot of knowledge that I love
I would love to continue to share.

wife says I talk too much, so it's really good.

everyone says. And the relationships, whether that's your teammates or
the coaches or the staff.

Like, man, like, what a.

Blessing to just build so many cool, strong relationships over
my thirteen years and just people that respect so much
that don't get a lot of glory or they don't get,
you know, the recognition, but they're just great people and
work hard all for this goal to win a championship
that they're not even they are a part of, but
they're not on the field, right and so that part.
(28:15):
But yeah, game days, you show up to that stadium,
you come on the field to warm up, like there
is no greater feeling, like the end of my career
when I could just like walk on the field and
be like this is amazing, like and I just like
soak it all in, like do my warm up routine,
like felt so good and like didn't care what happened
because it was just so fun to be a part of.
Speaker 7 (28:35):
Uh, definitely, we'll miss up.

You should start your podcast with the anthem with you
walking in through.

I went to Freenie, said I put a flyer on

I'm just out here. My goal is to beat people
like Billis. Yeah, my buddies here who I know were
of similar skill level. Yes, compatible Jay's handicaps a little

you played played nine holes yesterday. I was very surprised
by how hard it was. It and it doesn't at

least the front nine. You know, it seemed to me
to favor a left to right ball flight, and unfortunately
I hit the Schnorkel hooks, So I'm not sure that's
going to go well. A couple of times I come
on the tea like where am I supposed to get this?
But looking forward to seeing the whole eighteen today. One
of the bits of advice I've gotten from some friends
of mine who played here in the past is, you know,

don't wear yourself out in the days leading up to
the tournament. Correct, Yes, get out and see the course,
but don't play eighteen every day. And you know if
you do that, it's five six days in a row.
So yes, yeah, nine yesterday. We'll play the pro am
today and probably nine more tomorrow and let's go all right.
