Us hostage for the foreseeable future here because according to Shams,
he is willing to accept a minimum contract to play
for a contender, and that opens up the doors to
just about every single team, well contending team in the NBA.
Whether or not you believe that report, and I don't
think that you do, because I think you think that

Lebron wants to make some money here in his final season.
I would tell you he's made enough money. And what
he's doing is chasing ghosts. He's trying to catch Michael Jordan.
He's trying to tack on a ring or too towards
the end of his career. And so I do believe
that he'd be willing to play for a minimum contract
in the NBA.

I think it's the smart thing to do is to
give yourself like the entire landscape of the NBA. You
know this is going to be your last move. So
why rule anybody out right? Yes, of course for you Utah,
you can rule them out right away.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
But why rule anybody out a non contending team? Correct?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
And so I think in that respect, it's something you say.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
It's something you say, Hey, I'm not going to let
other teams' salary situations dictate where I'm going to go.
I'm going to go where I'm going to be the happiest.
And if that means taking a pay cut, whatever, I
don't need. I'm a billionaire, And so I don't think
that's actually what's going to happen. Though, I think he
finds his team. I think he talks to the GM
and says, hey, you got to figure out a way
to get me some money here. So if it's something

as simple as let's say you're going to the Miami Heat,
you just take a player like Nicola Jovich or even
and Andrew Wiggins and include that in a sign in
trade and then move on from there and you get
Lebron his money. So this is more about him keeping
his options as open as possible, not actually about what
he's going to make.

This report would suggest that he might be open to
maybe in Oklahoma City, maybe the New York Knicks, maybe
the Boston Celtics, maybe the San Antonio Spurs, although Wemby
doesn't want them, he doesn't need them. But you still think,
correct me if I'm wrong that it's going to be
Golden State, Miami or Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I believe.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Look, I believe in the reporting that there's a reason
those three names are being mentioned. I believe there's a
reason those three names are the betting favorites, and I
believe that it makes sense why you look at those teams.
Maybe not Cleveland as much, although they would are open
to making changes to fit Lebron obviously, but you know,
Miami and Golden State, for example, have made moves to
make it potentially work. So I believe in the reporting,

and when you just put the pieces together, it also
makes the most sense.

said close your eyes and imagine cat winning a title
and yeah, the Knicks very famously won a title for
the first time.

Looking to Wemby for leadership, Like, I don't think he
wants to hear a word that Victor wembin Yama has
to say.

Or Wemby looking to him for leadership or any sort
of advice on how to do this. He's like, hey,
I got it, and I'm seven to five.

And I even think the teasing with Cleveland, right, because
he's over there running through the neighborhood, I feel like
that is just gamesmanship from him. I think it's keeping
the people from Cleveland happy and hopeful. But I don't
think he's going there.

You know, as I get older, when I close my
eyes even for five seconds, when I open him up,
I'm dizzy checked out.

in January in Oklahoma City?

The only time I have him waking up in January
in San Antonio is if he's playing for the Celtics
and he's on the first plane out after the game.

I mean, even that's a little chilly.

I mean if you talk about like, yeah, he's not
he's in Cleveland, now, he's not in Miami. Well, nobody
wants to be in Miami in June or July. It's
super hot. So he's doing the thing where he's in
the right place at the right time of the year.
But look, I don't see I don't see a secret
team pulling up here and making this happen.

I don't think the Knicks are going to be involved here.
I don't think any other real contenders are involved here,
especially like when you talk about okay see and the
it's just a timeline difference.

It's just you don't want.

To, you know, if you're the Spurs, put all this
pressure on this one year or maybe two years whatever
else he wants to play and say, hey, this is
pressurizing Victor Wembiniama.

He's already got his pressure.

He's already got the pieces around him that they want
to build with.

So when it comes to a mystery team, Lebron is
saying that he's willing to accept a minimum contract. We
have to actually see if he will do that. But
people are now saying if he takes a discount on
his NBA salary, the money could come back through the
documentary he's doing. Yeah, what if I told you guys,
I have a team that could rebrand around Lebron and
this partnership, he could make his money back tenfold.

You think Kawhi Leonard is gonna be happy with that
team to play for Lebronto.

But imagine quickly, Lebron Kawhi Scottie Barnes yaka Pertle. I
did start talking myself into that lin threat.

Yes, Lebron plays all the games in the States, Kawhi
plays all the games in Canada, across the border.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I like it right. Lebron comes in, He's like, hey, States,
I got you. Just stay here.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
I get to do my I get to do my
farewell tour across the United States.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
You play in Canada.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
But is He was kind of like when Messi came
to enter Miami to sweeten the deal. They were like, Hey,
this this new MLS Apple deal, You're gonna get it
a huge chunk of that. There's really no incentive for
Lebron to go to a team like the Toronto Raptors
unless they rebrand to Lebronto.

Let me tell you about the most famous person in Toronto.
His name's Drake. He hates Lebron.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
He had a Lebron tattoo covered it with a Shay
Gildess Alexander tattoo. He is dropping Lebron's names and all
these songs and cursing him out, saying he's not a
faithful husband.

It's just like, there's no chance in heck that he
goes to Toronto.

No chance.

If I'm Lebron, this is interesting, man, because he thinks
about this stuff.

I think the perfect team for him right now, the
Lakers and him parted ways.

I'm not gonna say the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
No Lakers quite the day. The Lakers have made a
thousand moves today. Lebron is never going back to LA.
But I think going to Boston would be a smart play.
I think going to you know, the rival of the
team that just kind of bailed on you in the
LA Lakers, I'm not certain how the relationship is with
that city, with their fan base and with that organization.

You can't go to the Knicks. The Knicks just won
a title, so we can't be the reason the Knicks
win a title. They've already done it without him going
to Boston where they won a title. But it was
a few years ago, and there seems to be there
seems to be some repairing that needs to be done
in terms of relationships with certain players, Jaylen Brown, Jason Tatum.
We'll see what happens with Jaylen Brown, but going to
the Celtics and helping them get past the Knicks, getting

back to the NBA five Finals and maybe winning an
NBA championship.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
That'd be a pretty good ending for him, would it?

Not for you, but for him.

I just don't see that possibility whatsoever when you consider
just a lot of things, right, Like that was.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
The rival, the main rival for all.

Of his his teams, right his for Heat Calves and
the Lakers, and it just it just doesn't seem very probable.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
That he would go there.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
In particular, you know, the two guys that they have,
if you're assuming they somehow keep Jalen Brown or even
if they move him, the guy that that is the best,
their best player, Jason Tatum, effectively plays the same position.
I just I just don't see that possibility happening in it.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
But it would be a good move. Now.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
So we're talking to Ramona Shelbourne later, right, And this
is where I don't think it'll be a good move,
right because it's pressurized, like immediately you got to win
a championship. So you've got the Boston fans looking at
Lebron James they've already hated for twenty five years, right
and seeing you better win US a championship this year
or we're gonna blast you even more. That's not really

the setup Lebron James wants to have, right, It just
doesn't feel Plus they just of all the teams we're
talking about, the most recent champion in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Sure, it doesn't feel like the right fit for him either.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
But if the reports are right that Lebron wants to
compete for championships and he wants to play meaningful basketball,
he's going to have to go somewhere where. Once he
gets there, the expectation is title.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yes, regardless of where he goes.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Well, I don't know if he goes to Golden State,
is the expectation of title I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I Eveland, Yes, it is.
Speaker 4 (10:33):

Internally now, the rest of us will look at it
and say, yeah, he's a little old. It's probably not.
They're that team's little old. It's probably not gonna happen.
But internally, yeah, they're talking championship Miami. The expectation is
title right. If they get Lebron, they will finish off
that roster in a way that they are telling themselves
absolutely title contender.

Expectation Title right, maybe a little tougher. I mean Eastern
Conference Finals.

Little tougher when you consider that. He Yeah, it's just
it's a tough fit. With James Harden a little older.
I would say contender, but I wouldn't be feel great
about it.

Okay, So I don't know if title would be the
realistic tier. I would say NBA Cup.

She's an NBA insider and reporter for ESPN. She is
everything La Lakers, So let's start there. Obviously, Lebron, James
and the Lakers. How surprised were you, Ramona that Lebron
and the Lakers decided the part ways.
Speaker 8 (11:40):
You know, I feel like we saw this coming for
the past year, and the writing was on the wall
and nobody either could read it or wanted to read it,
because this is this has.
Speaker 9 (11:51):
Been coming, right.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
They took Luca to lunch at Craigs and they gave
him this binder and they were like, Hey, we're gonna
have a bunch of capspan since the summer of twenty
six because Lebron's not going to be here like this,
you know, like where did that capas come from? And
they said, we'll get you a center and we'll get
you who you want. You know, you should sign the
extension here and it was kind of like and then
(12:15):
you got that statement from Rich.
Speaker 9 (12:17):
Paul last year and you know it was this was
like this very long goodbye.
Speaker 8 (12:23):
You know, it was kind of like we saw this
coming and yet you didn't really believe it. And then
is you've you've been around Lebron, have you ever seen
a breakup with the team so like amicably.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Usually no, no, not at all. I've never seen him
not have a plan, And it just seems like the
Lakers for a while now have not really been part
of his plan because they're building around Luca Austin, et cetera.
Speaker 9 (12:45):
Yeah, I mean, look, you know, I'm in my mid forties.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
I don't know how old you guys are, but like
I felt bad for Lebron ever since that Luca trade, Like,
I because I know what it's like to be like,
I'm a couple years older than him, but as NBA years,
he's ancient, right, and he's still really good and he
works really he's up every day at five training and
he's holding off the young guys like he's probably doing
all these longevity hacks ten hours a night with his
(13:10):
Ora ring and like, and then they get this young
guy who's this like he's got a great smile and
he plays the game really well and he's they call
him Luca Magic. I mean, he was like one of
Lebron's first draft picks on the All Star team when
he got to be the captain the first time. I mean, like,
it's like you just got replaced by this younger, like
cuter version of you. I mean it's we're in show business.
(13:30):
We know how this feels. It sucks, So I feel
bad for him. He doesn't deserve that, and I'm happy
that he broke up with them rather than them breaking
up with him.
Speaker 9 (13:40):
I mean, you know, like I I like the conscious
uncoupling term.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
I think Gwyneth Paltrow just said that first when they
when she broke up with Chris Martin, right, and then
Winhors brought it back yesterday, and I'm just gonna keep
going with it because I think that's really what this was.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Ramona how do you think Lebron's going to be remembered
by Laker feds?
Speaker 9 (13:59):
Okay, I mean that's what's like. The people didn't love
him here, guys.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
And it's I like, I host radio in LA all
the time, and you wouldn't believe the callers and John
Ire and I will.
Speaker 9 (14:09):
Sit on radio and we'll go, you, guys, this is like.
Speaker 8 (14:12):
The greatest player of all time who's playing for your team,
Like you should appreciate that. And I think people like
respected him, and they appreciated him, but there wasn't a
real connection or love.
Speaker 9 (14:23):
And is that because he followed Kobe probably right.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
Like nobody's Kobe, you know, And and Kobe had been
here for twenty years. He was sort of Laker blood
like her family. Lebron came here as best years were elsewhere.
He's sort of a like a late career arc, you
know that. It's like you know when your show goes
on for twenty seasons and then there's like this, there's
this three season arc where they're in this random place.

I mean, it just it just was never this like
blood feeling. There's never real connection feeling. And and I
mean I still get calls on the radio all time
about this Blaze Pizza event.
Speaker 9 (15:03):
Do you remember this Blaze Pizza event? Yes, the first.
Speaker 8 (15:07):
Summer he sent he tells the Lakers he's coming. There
was no It was exciting for Laker fans because they
I mean, you forget how.
Speaker 9 (15:14):
Bad they were before he arrived. He was they were terrible,
Like they're in the lottery every year.
Speaker 8 (15:19):
Every year, I would cover the finals and then I'd
get some an NBA producer would be like, okay, so
we're gonna have you stationed at the Lakers for the
draft and I'm like, what, oh the lottery again? Oh god, okay,
that's next week. And then I had to call everyone
and get caught up and be like, we're the Lakers picking.
Speaker 9 (15:35):
And I'd stand out there and.
Speaker 8 (15:36):
I think Rhys Davis was like the host back then,
or maybe with Sage, you know, and I would stand
out there and say the same three things for ten
hits in a day, you know, and like this was
like six straight years, six straight years, like it was like,
you know, Julius Randall, D'Angelo, Russell, Brandon Ingram like we
can't and it was it was a really rough.
Speaker 9 (15:58):
Time in Lakerland. And some of those years Kobe was
still there.
Speaker 8 (16:01):
They were just really bad. He was either injured or
he was old. And so Lebron came and he made
them relevant again. He made them interesting again. He chose them.
They really didn't do much to recruit him, other than
you know, Magic came over to his house the night
before and was like, let's go. You know, like, I
don't think there was a big there was no production.
(16:22):
You know, they need to sell him. He just was like,
LA sounds cool, and I you know, I like the franchise.
The Knicks at that point were still dysfunctional. I think
Phil was there too, wasn't he still Yeah, they had
a beef, you know, so if he was gonna leave Cleveland,
he had to go someplace cool. And LA was cool,
and you know, they they very quickly got him a
(16:44):
star and Anthony Davis. They won a title. But I
just I don't think he ever really embraced LA either.
That He didn't even do a press conference that summer.
Remember his first press conference was an Akron after he
left Cleveland. It was like, I'm still one of you, right,
And then there was supposed to be some event at
Blaze Pizza. All these people showed up and Lebron didn't
and everyone got mad and then it just sort of
(17:08):
kind of never escalated from there.
Speaker 9 (17:10):
I mean, whereas like I don't mean to, you know.
Speaker 8 (17:13):
Compare contrast, but like Luca got here, was totally shell shocked,
couldn't believe he got traded. But like the first two
things he does, I think he got parking for everyone,
or he like helped people get like affordable.
Speaker 9 (17:27):
Parking to go to the game, and then he.
Speaker 8 (17:28):
Fixed a Kobe Murle like very quickly started doing like
on point things to say, I love La, and I
don't know, I just I never felt that from lak
your fans, from Lebron.

Towards La, and.

I frankly like when he broke a lot of these
all time records, I felt kind of like it didn't
feel right. Really, you know, it was he should have
been in Cleveland or some you know, the place that
really loved him. Because you know, we're gonna have the
World Cup final in a little aisle and it'll probably
be two nations that have nothing that are not US, okay,

and like if you go watch, I don't know, let's
say it's France, and who do they line up with?
Could they play Norway. Is that they on the same bracket.
You know, probably France is going to be in at
the probably the best team. But like people are going
to show up and they're going to cheer really hard
for two teams that they are not natives of. And
that's kind of what this whole time in La felt like.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
You're surprised by that, is he he's breaking Kareem's record there,
you know, well actually looking, I mean it was.
Speaker 9 (18:30):
A nice moment. Everyone got their phones out and threw
it up on the ground.

Yeah, I was just looking at the bracket to see
France plays Paraguay next, and I was just giving Ramona
bad information.

But no, no, they beat Paraguay.

They beat them last night, right right, They beat Paraguay
and then they play the winner of Wait a second,
what am I looking at? No, they beat Sweden. Yes,
France plays Paraguay and then they beat and then pat Okay. Yeah, Canada, Morocco,
sorry to get up.

Then who's on the other side of the brack of France?

And this is how we discussed soccer in the United States. People,
we have no idea what the hell we're talking about.

Then I just follow everything early Hollando having on Instagram
and like, ah, the.

Vikings here, Nory would have to play them in the final,
I believe. So they're entirely on there they bracket, but
I got it right there you go. So I'm curious
about the Lebron James free agency situation because, as you
mentioned before, it's like he's never broken up with the
team and didn't have a plan. I mean, some would
argue his move back to Cleveland was made before he ever,
you know, entered his fourth year in Miami.
Speaker 9 (19:27):
We felt that during those finals.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Yeah, and so this feels like when he says, hey,
let's see what you got doesn't feel genuine. It feels like,
if this is the pattern of Lebron James, he's got
a very good idea.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Of where he's going. Would you agree or does this
seem like a different situation for him?
Speaker 8 (19:44):
This feels different? Maybe this Okay, you were closer to
twenty ten than I was. Did you feel like he
was always going to Miami in twenty ten?

In fact, Dwayne Wade famously, even though he had thought
Lebron was going to come, didn't really know as the
announcement was happening, So he left some miss.

There because people like they all came to that office
building in downtown Cleveland.

I always remember Wendy telling me.
Speaker 8 (20:06):
About this, right like, it was like this office building.
And then remember remember Donnie Walsh got out. The Knicks
guys came out and was like, Donnie.

Walsh had a neck brace on.

Chair. I believe a wheelchair just had a.

Surgery, I think.

And I was like, oh, it's probably it's not good
optics for the Knicks there, you know.

And then Chicago was in it.

I think Chicago was definitely in that because Dwayne was
from Chicago. And then you know, Pat had to make
a really strong case, you know. I think that the
way this history has been written is that Pat brought
his his rings into the room and he set him
on the table and he said, come with me if
you want to win, right Like, I don't think that's
exactly what happened, but I.

It's a good story though.

But you know, the sense was, I don't think he
knew what he was exactly going to do in twenty ten.
I think that was a true decision. Every other move
I think I think he knew what he was doing.

that had been in the wind for a year.

Lebron wants to make some money here in his final season.
I would tell you he's made enough money. And what
he's doing is chasing ghosts. He's trying to catch Michael Jordan.
He's trying to tack on a ring or too towards
the end of his career. And so I do believe
that he'd be willing to play for a minimum contract
in the NBA.

I think it's the smart thing to do is to
give yourself like the entire landscape of the NBA. You
know this is going to be your last move. So
why rule anybody out right? Yes, of course for you Utah,
you can rule them out right away.

But why rule anybody out a non contending team? Correct?

And so I think in that respect, it's something you say.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
It's something you say, Hey, I'm not going to let
other teams' salary situations dictate where I'm going to go.
I'm going to go where I'm going to be the happiest.
And if that means taking a pay cut, whatever, I
don't need. I'm a billionaire, And so I don't think
that's actually what's going to happen. Though, I think he
finds his team. I think he talks to the GM
and says, hey, you got to figure out a way
to get me some money here. So if it's something

as simple as let's say you're going to the Miami Heat,
you just take a player like Nicola Jovich or even
and Andrew Wiggins and include that in a sign in
trade and then move on from there and you get
Lebron his money. So this is more about him keeping
his options as open as possible, not actually about what
he's going to make.

This report would suggest that he might be open to
maybe in Oklahoma City, maybe the New York Knicks, maybe
the Boston Celtics, maybe the San Antonio Spurs, although Wemby
doesn't want them, he doesn't need them. But you still think,
correct me if I'm wrong that it's going to be
Golden State, Miami or Cleveland.

I believe.

Look, I believe in the reporting that there's a reason
those three names are being mentioned. I believe there's a
reason those three names are the betting favorites, and I
believe that it makes sense why you look at those teams.
Maybe not Cleveland as much, although they would are open
to making changes to fit Lebron obviously, but you know,
Miami and Golden State, for example, have made moves to
make it potentially work. So I believe in the reporting,

and when you just put the pieces together, it also
makes the most sense.

compete for championships and he wants to play meaningful basketball,

Lakers for a while now have not really been part
of his plan because they're building around Luca Austin, et cetera.

I don't know how old you guys are, but like
I felt bad for Lebron ever since that Luca trade, Like,
I because I know what it's like to be like,

he's ancient, right, and he's still really good and he
works really he's up every day at five training and
he's holding off the young guys like he's probably doing
all these longevity hacks ten hours a night with his

Ora ring and like, and then they get this young
guy who's this like he's got a great smile and
he plays the game really well and he's they call
him Luca Magic. I mean, he was like one of
Lebron's first draft picks on the All Star team when
he got to be the captain the first time. I mean, like,

cuter version of you. I mean it's we're in show business.

We know how this feels. It sucks, So I feel
bad for him. He doesn't deserve that, and I'm happy
that he broke up with them rather than them breaking
up with him.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow just said that first when they
when she broke up with Chris Martin, right, and then

Like you should appreciate that. And I think people like
respected him, and they appreciated him, but there wasn't a
real connection or love.

Like nobody's Kobe, you know, And and Kobe had been
here for twenty years. He was sort of Laker blood
like her family. Lebron came here as best years were elsewhere.
He's sort of a like a late career arc, you

this three season arc where they're in this random place.

I mean, it just it just was never this like
blood feeling. There's never real connection feeling. And and I
mean I still get calls on the radio all time
about this Blaze Pizza event.

Summer he sent he tells the Lakers he's coming. There
was no It was exciting for Laker fans because they
I mean, you forget how.

Bad they were before he arrived. He was they were terrible,
Like they're in the lottery every year.

Every year, I would cover the finals and then I'd
get some an NBA producer would be like, okay, so
we're gonna have you stationed at the Lakers for the
draft and I'm like, what, oh the lottery again? Oh god, okay,
that's next week. And then I had to call everyone
and get caught up and be like, we're the Lakers picking.

And I'd stand out there and.
Speaker 8 (15:36):
I think Rhys Davis was like the host back then,
or maybe with Sage, you know, and I would stand
out there and say the same three things for ten
hits in a day, you know, and like this was
like six straight years, six straight years, like it was like,
you know, Julius Randall, D'Angelo, Russell, Brandon Ingram like we
can't and it was it was a really rough.

Time in Lakerland. And some of those years Kobe was
still there.
Speaker 8 (16:01):
They were just really bad. He was either injured or
he was old. And so Lebron came and he made
them relevant again. He made them interesting again. He chose them.
They really didn't do much to recruit him, other than
you know, Magic came over to his house the night
before and was like, let's go. You know, like, I
don't think there was a big there was no production.
(16:22):
You know, they need to sell him. He just was like,
LA sounds cool, and I you know, I like the franchise.
The Knicks at that point were still dysfunctional. I think
Phil was there too, wasn't he still Yeah, they had
a beef, you know, so if he was gonna leave Cleveland,
he had to go someplace cool. And LA was cool,
and you know, they they very quickly got him a

star and Anthony Davis. They won a title. But I
just I don't think he ever really embraced LA either.
That He didn't even do a press conference that summer.
Remember his first press conference was an Akron after he
left Cleveland. It was like, I'm still one of you, right,
And then there was supposed to be some event at
Blaze Pizza. All these people showed up and Lebron didn't
and everyone got mad and then it just sort of

kind of never escalated from there.
Speaker 9 (17:10):
I mean, whereas like I don't mean to, you know.

Compare contrast, but like Luca got here, was totally shell shocked,
couldn't believe he got traded. But like the first two
things he does, I think he got parking for everyone,
or he like helped people get like affordable.

Parking to go to the game, and then he.

Fixed a Kobe Murle like very quickly started doing like
on point things to say, I love La, and I
don't know, I just I never felt that from lak
your fans, from Lebron.

I frankly like when he broke a lot of these
all time records, I felt kind of like it didn't
feel right. Really, you know, it was he should have
been in Cleveland or some you know, the place that

World Cup final in a little aisle and it'll probably
be two nations that have nothing that are not US, okay,

and like if you go watch, I don't know, let's
say it's France, and who do they line up with?
Could they play Norway. Is that they on the same bracket.
You know, probably France is going to be in at
the probably the best team. But like people are going
to show up and they're going to cheer really hard
for two teams that they are not natives of. And
that's kind of what this whole time in La felt like.
