Now let's get this party started.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
College Football 877-99 on Fox. That's 877-99 on Fox. We
are loaded over the next couple of days. Today, Steve
Spagnuolo going to join the show. We'll have the weekend
observations coming up in about 20 minutes. Tomorrow, Bijan Robinson
on the show. Justin Jefferson is also on the show.
(00:47):
Mikey A, football has begun.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
What'd you guys make here? I'll get to the AP
in a second because Michigan is... no longer in the
AP Top 25, and quite frankly, they don't deserve to be.
Not only for that performance, but for how they acted
after winning a game they should have lost. But let's
start with Lane Kiffin here, because Lane Kiffin, there's this
(01:14):
whole debate going on about Lane Kiffin, whether he's good
for college football, whether he's not good for college football.
Let me be very clear. Lane Kiffin is college football's
biggest star. And I'm not certain it's even close. Like,
go ahead and give me a second place person when
I say who is the biggest star right now in
(01:36):
college football. Because for me, it is Lane Kiffin. You
can like him. You can dislike him. You can root
for his team. You can root against his team. But
the fact that a guy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is
evoking some sort of emotion from just about everybody means
that Lane Kiffin is not good.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
He is great for college football.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Number two on that list would probably be Kirk's Nettie
at Indiana.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Just it's good.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Just because of his, his emergence into the national conversation.
But Stu, I think the gap between one and two
has never been further in college football, where we had
somebody like Nick Saban, where Alabama fans loved him, the
rest of the college football fans hated him. You need
somebody that you, that evokes that kind of emotion. And
(02:22):
right now, Lane Kiffin is doing that where LSU fans
are like, We're riding and dying with him. He is
our head football coach. And then you have the rest
of the nation who's giving Lane Kiffin the middle finger.
And Lane Kiffin has kind of given everybody the middle
finger right back too.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yes, and winning games. And listen, it's one game. I
understand that. It's against Clemson. It's against Dabo. I thought
the bigger story from that game was just how bad
Clemson looked, just how bad Dabo is, and whether or
not Dabo is going to make it this season as
the Clemson head coach. But, Mikey, it's been a long
time since we've been able to say that. There is
a clear star in college football, and there is a star,
(03:00):
there are other stars, but they're a distant second, third, fourth,
and fifth as it compares to Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin,
by leaving Ole Miss, going to LSU, bypassing an opportunity
to coach a playoff team because he thinks he can
win a national championship multiple at LSU, has made himself,
by design, the biggest star in this sport, and I
(03:22):
love it.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Love him or hate him he's much what must watch
television and all of the other people that you would
consider to be a star like kurt signetti marcus freeman
ryan day they're all there because they coach good programs
and they're like they winning football games they're not stars
they're just happen to be really good coaches or have
(03:44):
really good teams Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 6 (03:46):
I want to see what he says at halftime. I
want to see what he says after the game.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
I want to see what his facial expression looks like
during every play.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
That's what Lane Kiffin brings to college football.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Mikey, I was in Death Valley, and I wish I
had the opportunity to hear Lane Kiffin. But also, that
game was such a blowout in the second half. I
had my phone out, and I was watching the Michigan-Western
Michigan debacle. Luckily, I almost put my phone away after
the first attempt at Hail Mary because, like every other
game I've ever watched, when a clock hits zero, normally
(04:19):
the game ends there.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
Right.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Stu, what I'm about to say, just know I take
no pleasure in because I like Michigan. In the Ohio
State-Michigan rivalry, I'm siding with the blue 10 out of
10 times.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
I just want to be clear.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You're going to say something, okay, but you take no
pleasure in saying that thing.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Okay. I like this.
Speaker 6 (04:35):
Why are you smiling?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Because he's taking pleasure.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Michigan's head coach, Kyle Whittingham.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yes. If he had.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Any character or any integrity, he calls the NCAA up
right now and says, that's a loss. Please adjust the
record to reflect that. I can't have my first win
at Michigan be this. And what the Big Ten officiating
crew did was take an all-time moment away from the
Western Michigan players. It's embarrassing. It's disgraceful. And it's on
(05:08):
Michigan to make this right. Because this is, you know,
that ridiculous commercial that everybody laughs at the sportsmanship commercial,
the hand up, the ball was out on me coach.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
That's, that's what Kyle Whittingham has to do.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
But no one does that. I mean, seriously, no one
does that. No, there's not a single kid who, when
the ball is off him or her. admits to the referee, hey,
it was off me. It doesn't happen. You're asking Kyle
Whittingham to call somebody, and I have no idea who
that somebody is, and say to that somebody, hey, take
(05:40):
the win away.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Take my first win at Michigan. Take it away. We're 0-1.
Western Michigan, they're 1-0.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Do you know how quickly he'll get run out of
Michigan if indeed Kyle Whittingham did that?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You don't start the conversation by saying, take the win away.
You start the conversation by saying, I'm a man of integrity.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Ah, I see.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
By the way, it's funny you mentioned that, the whole
commercial thing. I was at my kid's baseball game. And
somebody on our team hit a ball that went just foul.
And the kid went, I've called it fair. And the
kid went, Oh no, it's foul. And his dad went, Hey,
shut up.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
And the whole thing with the big 10 officiating crew,
I'm insulted with the big 10 officiating crew because I
want them to look me in the eyes and say,
Do you think I'm an idiot? Because when have we
ever heard that there's multiple clocks, they're not always synced
up with each other? Yesterday, we saw a Florida State
game against SMU where they had no power, and somehow
(06:46):
all those clocks seemed like they were pretty synced up.
But all of a sudden, once one break doesn't go
Michigan's way, the Big Ten office in beeps down like
a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial saying, hey, let's put one
more second back on the clock. We need Michigan to
get this Hail Mary off.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
I got to tell you, if a kid on my team,
and I coach for several years, if they admit that
the ball was out on them, I cut them.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I mean, immediately. Yes.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
I once told a kid of mine during a girls
lacrosse game, to untie her shoes so she had the
time again to kill, you know, another 90 seconds off
the clock because the clock never stops running. When you
score a goal, you have to go back to the
face-off circle, right? And so if you're winning, you'll take
your time getting back to the face-off circle.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
The referees will try to speed you up.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
And I told my kids, hey, If we're up one
late in the game, we score a goal, and we
have to go back to the face-off circle, you untie
your shoes and tie them again.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Remember that time Jason Kidd was coaching on the sideline,
and he just took a water and spilt it on
the sideline to try to buy himself an extra timeout?
Speaker 4 (07:49):
And the ref.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Looked at him and was like, I was born at night,
but it wasn't last night.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
So, Taylor, I'm curious if you think they should have
done that against Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Hmm.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I think you just have to have some pride if
you're Michigan. While Ohio State's celebrating Senior Day.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
So I just want to be clear. Kyle Whittingham picks
up the phone. He has thought about it all weekend.
He doesn't feel good about this win. And I will
tell you that Western Michigan, they're getting more run off
losing this game than they would ever get off winning
the game. But you want Kyle Whittingham to just call
up somebody and say, I'm a man of integrity.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Exactly okay be sure to catch live editions of stew
gods and company live weekdays at 3 p.m eastern 12
p.m pacific on fox sports radio and the iheart radio.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
App taylor let's get to the weekend observations so.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Mikey!
Speaker 1 (08:59):
He came into the league with all the hype in
the world. It started well, and with Mike McDaniel, it
looked like they were going to rewrite the record books.
But injuries set his career back to the point where
he's the rare quarterback who went from wanting to tank
to get him to now tanking with him.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
But maybe... Just maybe.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
A change of scenery will help him.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Probably will.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
And with him being named the starting quarterback this weekend,
after one of the worst preseasons ever. Make no mistake
about it. Just like that. Tua is back.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
He's back, Mike.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
Back to what?
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I don't know. You know what the T in Tua
stands for? Thank you.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Judging teams off of week one, and only week one,
LSU is the best team ever.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Overwhelming. Yeah, overwhelming.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Crown them.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
If the season ended today, yes. You know what the
D in Dabo Swinney stands for?
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Didn't show up.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Done. It stands for done. You know what the S
in Swinney stands for?
Speaker 6 (10:32):
Stay home.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Savannah State. I was debating between that and the Sunbelt Conference.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
He fits the Sunbelt more.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
He really does. Dabo Swinney.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Was standing on the tracks and got hit at full
speed by.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
The lane train. True, true. Taylor put it on the poll.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Was Dabo Swinney standing on the tracks and got hit
at full speed by the lane train?
Speaker 4 (11:03):
He did. I vote yes.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
That game was played in Baton Rouge, but in reality,
it was played behind a woodshed.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
They're good.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Lane Kiffin, going for two. Up 41 points. Insult to injury. Also,
peak Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
He's such an ass, but I love it.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
I do. I do.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
He is the most needed person in college football.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I don't care about any particular college football team, program, university.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
I want the Clark University. They don't have football. They're D3.
I don't think they have football. What do I care?
I love the guy. He makes it more interesting. He does.
And he's an ass. Lovely.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Clemson shouldn't be allowed to call their stadium Death Valley.
The only team that's died there recently is Clemson.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
If you thought LSU was good now, just wait until
they get their NFL players.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
NFLSU. That was without the pros.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
If Joe Burrow gets hurt, Jamar Chase is going to
find a way back.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Put it on the ball.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
If Joe Burrow gets hurt, will Jamar Chase find his
way back to LSU? SEC filing a lawsuit against LSU.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
For wanting to play NFL players.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
You can't spell lawsuit without L-S-U.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
You can't, technically. I'm trying.
Speaker 6 (13:03):
I'm doing the.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Try to spell it. Go ahead. I dare anyone to
try to spell it without L-S-U. Go ahead.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
You can't do it. You can't.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Do you think at any point players on Ole Miss
watched that LSU game and said to themselves, I should.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Have went with them?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
They'd have that, like, whole moral ground standing. Like, Kiwan
Lacey and Trinidad Chambliss, we're going to stay at Ole
Miss and finish what we started. Okay, buddy. Get ready
to lose by 30 points in week three.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Someone had to say that to somebody, right? We should
have went with him. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Did we make the wrong choice? No, we're okay, right? No,
we made the right choice.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Except the quarterback. He thinks he made the right choice.
Because he thinks he could beat LSU by himself.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
And he might have to.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
I just wouldn't feel confident putting my trust in Pete
Golding's hand.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Well, fair.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Pete Golding. Please.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
The P and Pete.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
If you squint, Sam Leavitt starts to look like Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
You have to squint, though.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
You got to squint real tight to get that one.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
For a few more weeks.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Having a tiger on campus feels excessive. SEC, it just
means more.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
No, I didn't like that, the tiger on campus. Why?
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Feels excessive.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Feels like a zoo.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Dangerous.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
It's a bit much.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
It's a place of learning.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
It's dangerous.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Congratulations to Kirk Herbstreit on being the first person in
the history of this planet to own a dog.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
It's a cute dog, man.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Don't get me started on that. I mean, I love
that dog. We got him on the show last year
because of his dog. My daughters love that dog.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
He treats that dog like a purse, carrying it around everywhere.
And then he says the dog wants to be there.
I have never heard a dog say, you know where
I want to be? College game day in Baton Rouge.
Dogs want to be in a park with other dogs.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Yes, but you've never heard a dog say anything.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
I mean, dogs want to be with their owners. Dogs
want to be with their masters.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
And they do.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
He takes them.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
They'll go anywhere.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
I wish I could take my dog.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
On a private jet.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah. Yes.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
My dog would live the life if I could afford
a private jet and go place to place.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
If you were Kirk. Yeah. I love the dog. That
was Taylor's observation. Kirk Herbtree later this week.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
No, it's a terrible observation. Taylor is heartless to dogs.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
He's the dog to your dog.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
I know, but I'm trying to get Kirk on this week.
It was a big game. Texas, Ohio State. He's going
to be there calling it. I want him on.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
I'll tell him your thoughts about his dog.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Please don't.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
I'd like to keep a good relationship with the show
and Kirk.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
All right.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
Please don't mention Taylor.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I won't.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
To the guy behind me who thinks he's calling out
the defensive coverages.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
You are wrong, and I hate you.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
That's a Taylor observation. I was not at a game.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
He was. Someone was calling plays behind him. Yes?
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Yeah, this guy the entire time.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
That guy. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
You know, as much fun as I had in Baton Rouge,
there was a guy behind me who would not stop
yelling this one note the whole time. The problem is
he did it during like TV timeouts. And I'm like,
you realize you're not affecting anything right now.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Just do it. But the whole time.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
He thinks he's impacting the game, though. He does.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
He's impacting my sanity.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Were you close to punching him in the face at
any point?
Speaker 6 (16:54):
Closer than I care to admit.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
All right.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Hey, guy behind me, instead of yelling cover one, why
don't you cover one's mouth?
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
What?
Speaker 5 (17:11):
What?
Speaker 4 (17:11):
It was Taylor's.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
That was terrible by Ricardo. Terrible judgment.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Well, let's try again.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Ricardo, if I tell you that was Taylor's joke, what
sound would you give me?
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Iowa scored 40 points with 507 total yards. Not your
father's Hawkeyes. Heck, not your two-year-old's Hawkeyes.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
I miss the days where I could just count money
just betting Iowa unders.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Not anymore. Dangerous game. I hate it. It's going to
take a while for Vegas to adjust.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Notre Dame, Wisconsin might go down as the worst uniform
matchup in the history of college football. Those Wisconsin Yetis.
I'm fine with Notre Dame's uniforms.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
They were okay.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
They could do better. They have done better. Those Wisconsin
uniforms were dreadful.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Dreadful.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
The problem was you had Notre Dame and Wisconsin both
going for it. You could only have one team in
a game going for it.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Right.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yes. But Marcus Freeman would look good in the Wisconsin uniform, right?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
He'd look good in anything.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Anything.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
If there was a punting Hall of Fame, Wisconsin's punt
would be first ballot.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
The punter?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Just that one punt that he had.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
That one punt.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
Yeah. Hey, Notre Dame, Wisconsin. You're Notre Dame, Wisconsin. Don't
get cute. It was back to the uniform thing. Skipped over.
Punting Hall of Fame. Is there a Punting Hall of Fame?
I should have. I should have punted.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Ray Guy, I think, is in the Punting Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
He has the naming rights. It's the Ray Guy Punter's
Hall of Fame. Yes.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Well, he's in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
He's the actual Hall of Fame, right? He's the actual
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
The only thing that looked better in this game than
the punt was, of course, Marcus Freeman.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Here's something to ponder.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
If Boston College didn't play college football this season, how
long would it take somebody to notice?
Speaker 4 (19:39):
No need to discuss now. Just stash it away for
a rainy day. I'd go seasons.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Whatever happened to that? I wish you didn't do this.
Whatever happened to that red bandana game that Boston College
used to play? Oh, Boston College hasn't played college football
in 10 years.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Oh, wow. Taylor, put it on the poll.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
If Boston College didn't play college football this season, how
long would it take somebody to notice?
Speaker 4 (20:04):
It's wordy. It's long. I understand that, but it's a
good poll question. Yeah, Mikey.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
I wish you didn't ask that.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
I wish in, like, week eight you would have said,
you know, Boston College hasn't played this season.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
I would have been like, huh, they didn't?
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
If Alabama still had standards, they would have fired Kalen
DeBoer after only getting a field goal on their opening
drive against ECU.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
The Pirates.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
There were people calling for it.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Miami could have told Stanford to play and Stanford still
wouldn't have stopped them.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Here's what we're running. Stop it. Can't. Louisville Ole Miss.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
The rare game I turned off in the first half
and couldn't turn off in the second half.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
One might say it was a tale of two halves.
Great game.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Ole Miss Louisville. Thank you for saving the worst week
one of all time. The second half of Ole Miss
and Louisville.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Game of the year.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Eric Morris, the rare coach who took his entire team
from North Texas to Oklahoma State and somehow look worse
than North Texas ever looked.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Almost impossible to do.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
How do you do that?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
You upgraded uniforms, everything, conferences.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
And you didn't even play a Big 12 opponent. You
played Tulsa.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
If Oklahoma State played Rutgers, it would set college football
back to the day Rutgers invented it.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
It did.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
It fell too early in the season to get Washington
Versus Washington State.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
The Apple Cup. That's a December game. What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Yeah, it needs to be brisk.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
What's happening?
Speaker 6 (22:16):
Upsetting the Apple cart.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Hey. Proud of you. Bryce Underwood. Act like you've been
there before.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Also, just a reminder, you stunk all game before that
Hail Mary. Michigan, you can't wear those uniforms and have
that performance.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
Too much ugly.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Michigan, highway robbery. Michigan, screw job. Michigan, heist of the century. Michigan, rigged. Michigan,
stole one. Michigan, had the refs in their pockets.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Michigan, I'd like to have a ref in my pocket.
That's good. Mikey, you know what the M in Michigan
stands for?
Speaker 5 (23:19):
No.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Miscarriage of justice.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
How do you see that one coming, Mikey?
Speaker 4 (23:26):
How could you?
Speaker 6 (23:26):
I'm sorry. That's on me.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Michigan, Western Michigan. Taking a page out of soccer's book.
Extra time. It's going to end when it all ends.
I mean, that's it. When I blow the final whistle,
that's when it's over. We spoke about it. Yes.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
We spoke about it all World Cup. What if they
brought this to sports.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
And we said it would be awesome? They did it.
Now we're complaining about it.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
In my personal record book, Michigan is 0-1 and Kyle
Whittingham is on the hot seat. If any voter puts
Michigan in the top 25.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
After that performance... They should lose their vote forever. They should.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
It's a good thing Michigan is not known as a
program that cheats. If Western Michigan had beaten Michigan, Western
Michigan would have become Michigan and Michigan would have become
(24:32):
Southeastern Michigan.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
USM That would be such a good wrinkle.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
You play a directional school, you lose. Yes.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
You have to go in their direction. You have to
take their direction.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Their region.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Right now, North Carolina would be Central Carolina and East
Carolina would just be the University of North Carolina because
ECU dominates us every time we play in football.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Oregon Ducks survive in advance. If it walks like a
duck and quacks like a duck, it's overrated. Dante Moore, overrated.
Dante Moore, this year's Drew Aller.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
That's not fair to Dante Moore.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
I didn't say it. You did.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Kate Klubnick, maybe. Garrett Nussmeier.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Dante Moore, the rare quarterback who somehow looks like he's
already on the Jets while also trying to.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Avoid the Jets.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
This year's Clayton Klubnick.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
You know it's a bad slate when Duke Tulane gets
serious quad box consideration.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
It's bad.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
It really is.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
You're just browsing around like, there's got to be a
fourth game here somewhere.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
You're just searching for just anything.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
It's almost never in the Duke Tulane game.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Was it in your quad box? No, I got consideration. Okay,
you were thinking about it. It didn't make it, yeah.
It's the last time you'll be thinking about that, right? Probably.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Yeah. Kirby Smart had never covered at Georgia as a
38-plus point favorite.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
You know what that means, Mikey? He was due. They
were due. Nailed it. Baylor. Auburn. Rock fight. DJ Lagway.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Enough.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Enough.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I've seen enough.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
I've seen it at Florida. I've seen it elsewhere. I've
seen enough. You see one DJ Lagway, you've seen them all.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
How about that?
Speaker 4 (26:53):
Put it on the poll. Taylor, if you've seen one
DJ Lagway, have you seen them all? Thank you. Texas
A & M.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
The rare 50 burger with a side of shutout. The
least impressive 50 burger with a side of shutout ever.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
They played nobody?
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Yeah, and it was like 26-0 kind of late in
that game. And then they ran it up at the
very end of the game. They outscored Missouri State 17-0
in the fourth quarter to get to 50-0.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
Good teams win. Great teams cover.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
Football's on, man. I knew Alabama....
Speaker 1 (27:42):
ECU was over when ESPN showed that the ECU quarterback
was doing construction last year.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Guy was wearing a hard hat.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
That's more like Virginia Tech style football, yeah. Hard hat
and a lunch pail defense. Beamer ball.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
AGM resigning.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
A defensive coordinator allegedly giving drugs to players.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
And everybody having sex with everybody.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
Somehow, North Carolina still managed to lose the bye week.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Just one week, I'd like nothing to happen.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
You're 1-0, baby. That's it.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
No, we're 1-1 now.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Well, you're not.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
We lost the bye week. But you're 1-0, technically.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
East Tennessee State coming up next.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
If you were 1-1, he'd be fired. They are just waiting.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
No game, yet hell of a week at Chapel Hill.
Speaking of hell, Mark Bryles. Mikey, those are the.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Week 10 observations.
Speaker 3 (28:53):

Joel Anderson and Steve Spagnuolo are going to join us
in hour number two.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
We are loaded today as we get into football. Mikey A.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Is starting a bowling league, but Taylor, before we get
to that, Mikey A. 's bowling league, I have so
many questions. Why is the first question? uh just so
mikey a is prepared uh taylor has his worst team
I think in the history of college football.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (29:42):
The worst team in the history of college football.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
It's the Northwestern State Demons out of Louisiana. They're an
FCS program.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Right.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Their logo is a demon, but on their helmet, they've
just stolen Northwestern University's N. It's the same color scheme,
and they just put a fork through the purple N.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Okay. Well, let me say this on behalf of Northwestern.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
They're happy to hear that it's not them as the
worst college football program.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
In the history of college football. So this team is
the worst, huh?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
So in week zero, they play Louisiana college wildcats in
a IA.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
Team and wildcats.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yes. They lose 42 to 37, which normally historically does
not happen. If you're an FCS team playing an N
a IA team, right? So week, week one, they're going
on the road to law tech, Louisiana tech and Louisiana tech.
The bulldogs are 44 and a half point favorite.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Ken Northwestern state bounce back. Can they cover the 44
point spread? They lose 80 to six. They are now
it's a long season. We're only through week one right now.
They've played two games. They're own two. Long season, a
lot of time for the demons to kind of turn
(31:00):
this one around. But I'm keeping an eye on them, Stu,
because they might be the worst team in college football history.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
If La Tech was favored, if they were minus 73,
they would have covered the spread?
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
And the worst part about this is they are down
77 to 3 in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Right.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
They kicked a field goal.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Well, you have to.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I mean, 77 to six is, is, is 77 to
six that much different than 77 to three?
Speaker 4 (31:29):
It feels different. It sounds different. Yes. I mean, and
it is different. Of course it's three points closer. You
want to get back?
Speaker 2 (31:36):
You want to get back? Well, if you lose a
game 80 to six, you would assume nobody on your
team really feels good about that outcome. But if, if
you get that extra field goal, at least your kicker
is going into next week with some momentum, right?
Speaker 1 (31:48):
He has, listen, he has some confidence. He hit his
last kick. I mean, And listen, the team in general
has some confidence. They scored in that final drive. They
got a field goal against a better team, better opponent,
Louisiana Tech. You have to feel good. You'll take your
points when you can get them. And you'll take your
confidence when you can get some. And they are a
confident team going into next week.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
So I'm looking at the box score right now. La
Tech had 296 passing yards, 232 rushing yards. That field
goal came when they were down 83. I get what
you're saying, Stu. You can't kick a field goal when
you're with, with 47 seconds left. You can't line up
a 37 yard field goal when you're down 80 to three.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Mikey, how do you feel about this? They're down 80
to three. Okay. 80 to three. And I'm okay.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Listen, they tried scoring touchdowns. They tried the entire game.
They couldn't score a touchdown. They're not going to score
a touchdown. Why not take the three when the three
is available?
Speaker 4 (32:46):
I realize that.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
The score is 80 to three and you're down by
77 points on the road.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
Just remember this.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
The kicker is always looking for a new job and
the special teams coach is looking for a new job.
And if he's saying, hey, man, you put me out
there twice to kick. We nailed both. I don't know
what your problem is.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
Offensive defense.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Right.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
What you're saying is that kicker is auditioning. He's kicking
for somebody.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
Right.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Yes. Exactly. The place is going to transfer next year. Right. Yes.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
So Northwestern State, they're going on the road this week
to East Texas A & M.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Right.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
The Lions out of the Southland Conference at the FCS level.
That's got to be East Texas A & M right now.
I don't know anything about this team. This has to
be their easiest game on their schedule.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Northwestern state yes if you're deeming them the worst team
in the history of college football then of course they're
everyone's easiest game i mean but.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Imagine when they win it won't happen but imagine you
have them.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Going winless this year is that what you're saying this is.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
My bold take after week one yeah northwestern state demons
will not win a game this year i'm gonna go
out on a limb there.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
All right Mikey, what is going on with you in bowling?
Why are you starting a bowling league? I judge people
who start bowling leagues. I judge people who bring their
own ball to the bowling alley. What are you doing here?
Speaker 5 (34:09):
First off, I've got two balls that I bring to
the alley. I got a spare ball and a strike ball.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
A couple of balls cutting it up. Yes.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
What's the difference between your spare ball and your strike ball?
Speaker 6 (34:20):
My spare ball is plastic and doesn't hook.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Right. Go straighter.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Naturally, yeah. I don't know how I couldn't assume that.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Wait, so you walk into the alley with two bags?
Speaker 6 (34:30):
I have to wheel it. I have to wheel it.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
What?
Speaker 4 (34:32):
No, it's one bag, two balls. That's the wheel. I mean, technically,
we all walk into the alley with two balls. I mean.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
I got four.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
I get you. Were you ending it there?
Speaker 6 (34:50):
No, I was just waving you off.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
So go ahead. More about your bowling league. I can't
believe he's turning into a Cody. Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (35:00):
You asked me a question. You asked me why.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (35:03):
And it's because I was in a league with my
son because he wanted to do it. And then he
decided he didn't want to do it anymore. And I
realized I do way too much just with him. And
I miss adult conversations. I miss having a couple of drinks.
and just hanging out with some adults. And I don't
really get to do it much except with you guys.
(35:23):
And frankly, I don't really like most of you.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Right.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
So I wanted to, it's a, it's a forced night
out every week.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Right. Okay.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
And so the kid's not there is what you're saying.
Speaker 6 (35:34):
No, no kids.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
It's all adults.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Right.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
So it's just a reason to get away from your
couple of friends.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
And you're putting under the umbrella of I'm tired of
having conversations with my kid. I miss adult conversations where
we talk about football.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Yes, as opposed to the conversation I have with my
kid where I talk about football.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Now, this might be a silly question since you're already
somebody who brings your own balls to a bowling alley.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Yes, fair ball.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Are you bringing your own shoes and shirt too?
Speaker 4 (36:02):
What do you think?
Speaker 6 (36:03):
Shoes, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
Shirt, this is day one of the league starts today.
I want to get a feeler for it.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
I can't be the guy that walks in with the
shirt and no one else has a shirt.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
Like I can't, I can't do everybody who bowls there
is probably going to have a ball, maybe two and
their own shoes.
Speaker 6 (36:20):
I'm confident in that. But their own shirt, now you
might be pushing it.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Stu, when I think of bowling, the only person I
know when it comes to bowling is Pete Webber. That's
why I always make the Pete Webber reference. That has
to be bowling's number one moment. The Pete Webber, who
do you think you are? I am.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
You are.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I am.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
I think Earl Anthony is generally considered the greatest bowler
of all time.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
But Pete Webber has the moment, the celebration, probably the
most famous. Yes. Can I ask you guys for a
little help with this?
Speaker 6 (36:49):
I might need a team name.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
All right, you're responsible. You're the captain. Are you wearing
a jersey? You're not going to get jerseys before the
first match? What is it, a match, a game? What
do you do?
Speaker 6 (37:01):
Yeah, it's a match. Three games is a match.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
So I think you get everybody on your team's favorite
NFL team, and then you make your bowling uniforms, like
the Pro Bowl uniforms, and then you guys are the
Pro Bowlers. I don't hate that. And then you get
a little jet patch, says AFC.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
I don't hate that.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Yeah, but Shador Sanders made a pro bowl.
Speaker 6 (37:33):
Couldn't make our bowling team though.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Are you taking this under consideration? The pro bowlers?
Speaker 6 (37:43):
You got something better?
Speaker 4 (37:44):
No, I don't know. I was thinking about spare balls,
something like that. A spare ball?
Speaker 6 (37:52):
We've got two women and three men on our team.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yes. I mean, a spare ball is a bit excessive.
Do we agree?
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Bringing one ball because you take bowling seriously and you
want to have the grip and it's perfectly fitted to
your fingers, I understand that.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
But the spare ball that could pick up the.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Seven pin because it's on the corner over there seems
a bit excessive for someone who doesn't really bowl.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
1,000%. My bowling strategy when I go to a bowling alley–
I find the hottest pink ball, the lightest one, and
I palm it and I just throw it down the lane.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
I finished with like a score of 77.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
You would be the Israel Gutierrez.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
On our team. Oh, by far. I'm such a liability
when it comes to.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Ball.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
A spare ball is the only team name I had
for you.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Go with Pro Bowlers.
