All Right, Chris Simms joins us every Thursday on Stegotson Company,
the podcast we do before we get in here. We're
cranking out like two three hours every single day before
we even get in here, which would probably explain why
we're exhausted by the time we get in here and
why I can't say, Eddie Ericsson, I feel fine, all right,
but Chris Simms is the best in the business. Of course,
(00:33):
A PFT with Mike Florio every day on Peacock The
Unbuttoned podcast as well, and one of the hosts of
Football Night in America Sunday Night Football, their pregame show.
Chris Simms joins us. Now, Chris, was that a sloppy
a game? Because I was amazed by it? But was
that a sloppy a game as you've seen Josh Allen
play ever?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Definitely? Definitely definitely. Now My defense always for is you
know this is he's got to do everything, and you
ever notice that they never win games when he doesn't
play just awesome and That's where I always go the
roster just not good enough.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I don't care what anybody says. We see game.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
We seen quarterbacks playing worse than Josh Allen and their
teams still find ways to win.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
They're not capable of doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
And that's where I don't necessarily agree with McDermott taking
the fall maybe over the GM right, I kind of
side with the coach on that one too. Like not
too many all pros we've talked about in Buffalo, we
never talk about a difference maker that we got to
change the game plan for on either side of the ball.
So that doesn't match up to other teams that have
gone to the Super Bowl, right, the Eagles, we've talked
(01:36):
about it's an all star, all Pro team. Then when
they were in the Super Bowls, I mean it's like,
oh my god, oh my god. H positions like that.
It's one Pro Bowl or a All Pro after another.
The Chiefs, of course, tons of them, the forty nine
ers teams that lost in the Super Bowl, tons of them.
I mean tons of them, Like, oh my gosh, it's
an all star team again. So you know, the Buccaneers
(01:57):
with Brady, team was stacked with talent Buffalo doesn't match
up in that department with those guys. McDermott and Josh
Allen have closed that gap and made a fugazy Oh
this is a super Bowl team, and you know me,
I've been here with you guys for three.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Years agoing it's not really a super Bowl team.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
It's a real good team with one of the greatest
quarterbacks we've ever seen. But to your point, yeah, Josh Allen,
he played arguably his worst game of the year.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Right when you talk.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
About mistakes and then some things that were available to
be had, he played awesome in the first half.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I mean, I'm writing in my notes on my phone
going Josh Allen is bawling.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
He's taken over the game.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
Yeah, he was taking this year is the year?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yes, that's right.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
He was thirteen to fifteen.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
They were going up and down the field on the Broncos.
He'd run for forty yards already in the first half.
But the play at the end of the half was inexcusable.
And that's where Josh Allen very rarely leaves plays on
the field. He usually is a maximizer and that's what's disappointing,
is he didn't do that in a big game.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Seems one of the strangest parts about that Bill's press
conference yesterday was the strays that Keon Coleman was taking.
Is that something if you're a Keon Coleman, that you
can come back from? Or is his time in Buffalo
almost over?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
He caught a touchdown last week in a playoff games,
and yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, right, he's got some work to do. I mean,
he knows where he stands. I mean, he hasn't lived
up to what he should be at this point, right.
I don't think he's handled himself like they truly want,
as you know, a first round receiver and being a professional.
So all that's led to him not dressing in certain
games and doing all that. But I think the strays
are not and Keon Coleman shouldn't take it personal. The
(03:36):
strays are more about the big picture stuff we're talking about.
The Bills don't have a number one receiver. The Bills
don't have a number two receiver. They don't have a
one or a two.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I mean they had digs and he shipped them out.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I mean they had digs and digs again, even at
this point of his career. I know he was the
leading receiver to pay. He's not a true number one.
He's a real good number two. What the team and
the Patriots who have other twos and threes, and they
focused the offense around him, right, So that's where, Yes,
he was a number one early on in his career.
But that's what we're talking about. It's lack of those
(04:13):
type of players, right. Dalton kin Cave was supposed to
be a star. He's been good, but he hasn't lived
up to it.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Right.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Ed Oliver is supposed to be a star. He's been good. Again,
I'm not taking away from any of it. Like Brandon
Bean's done a lot of good. But I also sit
here and stick up for Sean McDermott and go yeah,
but the team is not nearly as good as like
we've talked about some of the other teams that have
been in the Super Bowl and been in that window
here the last few years.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Chris, do you think Josh Allen has done it? How
does this work in the NFL? Because I think people
are fascinated by this. Do you think Pagoula and beat
does Josh Allen have a saying whether or not McDermott
remains as head coach.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
I think if he went in there, it was like,
you can't fire.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Him, no way, don't do it right, They wouldn't have
done it one. But I know Josh Allen well enough
and been around him enough to know that he's not
into He wouldn't do either one. I would be shocked. Right,
He's gonna let the people and the powers of be
run the thing. I think one of the reasons Josh
Allen was crying so hard at you heired he knew
(05:17):
he might get fired exactly right. I mean, Josh Allen's
not stupid. He's heard people like me on TV and
Florio and you guys and other people go, you know,
if the Bills don't get to the super Bowl, or
if they lose one of these first you know, wild
card divisional round, Sean McDermott might get fired. I mean
that was going around the NFL. I had been saying it.
(05:38):
I mean, so you know, I think that's.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Part of the emotional plea.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
What you saw from Josh Allen after the game is
he knew not only did he let his team down
and he missed opportunities that he usually doesn't miss. I
think he also knew that this could lead to, yeah,
the head coach being fired.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Am I crazy to think the Bill should hire Belichick?
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Yeah? I think you will, thank you, Okay, Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Mean I wouldn't want to go that way at this
age where he's at. I mean, you know again, yes,
and there's just been some questionable decisions. I know he
can still coach ball, but there's just been other issues too,
you know. And also with the with Belichick, the problem
I think he'd have is just like, yeah, how many
good years does he have left if he goes up there?
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Right?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I think a lot of coaches around the league and
go like, is Bill going to hang in there too long?
I don't know if I want to root my whole
family and then he retires two years from now, right right?
So that doesn't I don't think that's the direction you
want to go.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
It feels like to me right now about it's going
to be either Joe Brady the offensive coordinator, or maybe
Brian Dayball that if he made me guess, I'd say
it's one of those two.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
As I sit here right now on a Thursday talking to.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
You guys, what can you tell Dolphin fans about Jeff Hafley.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Hafley's a head coach. That's the one thing I'll tell you,
like no doubt about it. I always knew he'd be
a head coach, and if you were around him, he's
that kind of personality that can command a room and
have relationships and be that guy.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
And then his defense is legit, right.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
I mean, he is one of the better game plan
specific defensive coordinators in all of football. He can do
it a lot of different ways, So I think that's
what's awesome about him. He's gonna bring physicality to the crew.
He's gonna bring smart defensive game planning on a week
to week basis.
Speaker 7 (07:26):
Since your boy Florio put out a report that there's
a possibility Lamar Jackson could be intrigued by going to
the Raiders, and my question for you is what kind
of gummy did you slip into his morning coffee to make?
Speaker 3 (07:39):
As I have would agree, I mean I need to
ask him that.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
I got to ask him that, you.
Speaker 8 (07:46):
Know, hey, could you get me one?
Speaker 4 (07:48):
I figured you already had your own, so you were good.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
But either way, I mean I was surprised to hear
that too, right, I was, you know, and I don't
know if it's just conjecture or theory or whatever, you know,
I certainly can believe that Lamar would love to get
to South Florida.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
I get that It's gonna be interesting to me here.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
To see how quickly Lamar wants to renegotiate or negotiate
a new contract.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Steve Bushati was pretty clear in his press conference of
like I talked to Lamar. I told him we wanted
to get it done early. We can use the same
contract as before, except we'll just boost the numbers up
a little bit. Right, So, like, if Lamar really wants
to be in Baltimore, he's just gonna be like, Hey,
let's do it, let's sign it, blah blah blah. But
if he delays a little bit and hymns and hawes
like I don't know, and there is thought out there
(08:38):
that he'd like to go to South Florida, then my things, like,
mikey Edy, your point is like, why would you want.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
To go to the Raiders right now?
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I mean you know, I mean, Lamar, you'll be you'll
be two or three years older by the time they
get the team situated in the right spot. And that's
where I just can't imagine that that fancies Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I'm interested in Jared'stidham and what's going to happen here
with a lot of people are comparing him to what
the Giants did with Jeff Hosteler, to which I keep saying, no,
that's different. Your dad got hurt eleven games into the season,
I think, and Hosteler had five games before to kind
of ramp up and get ready for a playoff run.
They eventually won the Super Bowl. This is a guy
being thrust into the AFC Championship game who.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Hasn't played in a long time.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
There is no ramping up here. He's gonna have to
face the fire in the biggest game of his life.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
Do you think he could pull it off? You know him?
Do you think he can pull it off?
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Well? I do think he can pull it off.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
You know, it's it's gonna take a team effort, right,
you can't. You got to break him into the game
kind of slowly early on. Their defense is going to
have to play well and know that, hey, we got
to buy our quarterback some time to get in a
little rhythm here, right. We can't expect them to come
out and just be like, oh, seven for eight on
the first drive for sixty yards on a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I'd be shocked if that happened.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Okay, so yeah it's but yeah, I think people are
disregarding the Broncos a little too strongly here. Yea, you
know they're at home. They match up with the Patriots.
The Patriots have been shaky on the offensive side of
the ball, so to think that they can't win a
defensive twenty to seventeen type of football game, that's where
I would go. Watch out everybody right now, Like you said,
(10:12):
there's the hosteler thing where. Yeah, I think the Giants
might have been twelve and two or eleven and two
when my dad got hurt against the Buffalo Bills and
they changed their offense a little bit. Right, My dad
was the number one passer in football that year. The
Giants were throwing the ball and being pretty aggressive, but
they had the ability to have a power running game too, right,
So you saw it, you remember you saw Super Bowl
(10:34):
twenty five. I mean the Giants kind of down the
stretch just said we're gonna run the ball three out
of every four plays. We're gonna chew up clock. We
got Belichick and these great defensive players, and we're gonna
kind of play that way.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I don't think that Broncos can rely on their run
game like that. So you know, Stidham knows the offense.
They're not gonna have to hold back things. It's just
going to be about getting him comfortable early on. And
I think that's where I look at it and go, yeah, yeah,
I think they got a fighting chance too. And then
if their defense, like you know, Drake May has fumbled
six times in two games and he's started two interceptions.
(11:08):
He's not playing MVP caliber football. He's been shaky. So
if their defense can recover one of those fumbles or
get a pick or all that, and Stidham can just
kind of stay the course, then you go, Yeah, the
Broncos at home with that de caon they upset the Patriots,
of course, they can, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Sims.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
I was looking at Divisional round qbrs and Drake May
had the lowest QBR of the quarterbacks that played the
divisional round. What have you seen from Drake May and
YZ not playing at that MVP level that we saw
during the regular season.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Well, he played two really good defenses and to have
a worse QBR than C. J.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Stroud.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
I don't know how that would be even be that
tells you that there's something wrong with how they do QBR. Right,
we don't need a QBR to go who played quarterback
the worst last weekend? Like what the there's something wrong
with the formula? Go back to the drawing board, Like
are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
That's crazy terrible?
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yes, he said that that quarterback.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
I mean it really is.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
That's unbelievable, like challenge flag on that. But yes, he's
I respect Drake May because he's he really can keep
his eyes downfield and stay calm under pressure, right, but
a little too calm lately, Like come on, you know
you're playing the Chargers, you're playing Houston, Like you can't
just totally.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Block it out.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
You got to be a little aware in the pocket
of who you're playing against. And your own team hasn't
protected all that well as of late either, So I
feel like pocket presence has not been the best, and
he's been a little off throwing the football. I know
he had the two go routes down the sideline in
the game last week, right, he had that, and sure,
but there's been also another number of errant throws.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
So it's a little bit of everything.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
And that's again where you know, you look at this
and go, Denver's gonna feel like they can pressure him
a little bit. Denver's gonna go, hey, we got pat
certain he can take digs and then we could put
other guys and and and cover him that way, right,
So that's where you give Denver the fighting chance. The
only problem is New England's gonna feel really good on
the defensive.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Side of the ball. How they match up against Denver too.
They're gonna go, wait, oh.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
You want to run the ball early on, we stop
the run and you're not that good at running Denver,
Oh you want to throw a little short screen passes
and stuff like that and get going. They're gonna go,
We're gonna smother you and get in your face. We're
not really scared of it. Like Christian Gonzalez is gonna
take Courtland sudden, Carlton Davis will take the receiver.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
On the other side.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Marcus Jones is one of the best nickels in all
of football. So I think they're gonna play the like, oh, oh,
you think you're gonna run the ball and throw a
little quick passes to get Jared Stidham in a rhythm
early on.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
They're gonna go no, no, no, We're gonna take that away.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
They're gonna feel good about their matchup on that side
of the ball too. That's why I'm taking the Patriots
twenty four to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
I know I got them covering the spread. Yeah, but
like I think.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
It'll be a close, tough fought football game where the
Patriots gonna pull away late.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
All Right.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
The NFC Championship game Seahawks minus two and a half
against the Rams, what a great game. Can wait to
see it? Donald Matthew Stafford. I think Stafford becomes a
storyline here and whether or not he could win a
second Super Bowl. Or maybe it is Sam Darnold who
has had his journeys and has found himself a home
in Seattle and now is one game away from the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Who do you like here?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
It's minus two and a half Seattle Rams.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I like Seattle, and now I say this in full
transparency at the start of the playoffs, right, I always
do a playoff bracket every year.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
I had the Texans and the Rams in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
But I'm not going to just go Oh, well, I
picked that three weeks ago, so I'm sticking with it.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I'm going to evaluate the situation a little bit. Seattle's
as hot as anybody in the sport right now on
both sides of the ball. I mean, so I just
look at that, and then I think, out of the
four teams we have left in the playoffs, Seattle's roster
is the most talented. And then you couple that with
the Rams, who I don't think have played their best
ball really ever since maybe the first three quarters of
(14:53):
that week sixteen Thursday night game up there in Seattle.
That's where I kind of favor Seattle in this one.
But am I scared about Sam Donald their first time
in this kind of experience.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Yes, And the Rams have been there, done that, and they're.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Not gonna be intimidated by playing up in Seattle because
they've been there and done that.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Yeah, that's where it's scary.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
But where I do think it's different for Sam Donald
that's compared to Minnesota, is you know, Minnesota played a
style of football where they're like, hey, we want you
to throw for three hundred yards.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
That's what we do. We don't run the ball.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
We want to throw and throw and throw, and we
got these two receivers and we're gonna throw to them.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
See, Seattle doesn't give a damn. They don't.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
And you know, Seattle needs to continue to run the ball.
And they don't run the ball enough really if you
look at it and the way they moved and open
up holes. But they have to do that and rely
on their defense, and I think that takes pressure off
of Sam Donald. So that's where I like, you know,
Sam Donald, not to choke under pressure. We know they're
capable of big plays on the offensive side of the ball.
(15:51):
The Rams defense has not been playing real good lately.
I mean, you saw it. I mean, I know the
Bears didn't score a lot of points, but they kind
of went up and down the field on the Rams
throughout the football game.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Yeah right, So I worry about that.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
But on the same token, you know, I know McVeigh
and Stafford can get hot and maybe put up some points,
but I still feel like I'd be shocked. The way
the Seahawks defense has played since that first three quarters
against the Rams has been as good as anybody in
the NFL.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
I love people saying there's no dominant team in the
NFL and there are three teams holding up their hands going, hey,
we're fourteen to three with a chance to go to
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
I know, I know it is it's funny. It's just
it's you know, I think it's it's kind.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Of what we're talking about is none of these quarterbacks
make you feel warm and cozy yet.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Right.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
We all know Drake May is going to be awesome
and is awesome already, but it's still his first time here.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
And then it's Stidham and it's Sam Darnold. Yeah, so
there's a.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Lot of young and lack of experience in these type
of situations here, and I think that's where, you know,
we've looked at these teams and gone, ah, you know,
they're not maybe as great as some of the great
teams have passed. But it's a defensive year and you
got what three out of the four top scoring defenses
in football going against each other. And that's what we're
seeing here, and I think that's where these quarterbacks can't
(17:03):
forget you know what got him there?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
PFT with Mike Florio every day on Peacock the Unbuttoned

I have a quiet for Dan Byer. We were discussing
this earlier. Before you get to your updates, sir, on
our podcast, we were discussing our favorite Girl Scout cookies
(19:08):
and just the ability for the Girl Scouts to position
themselves in a place where it's nearly impossible for you
to say no as you're walking into your local grocery store.
But I am wondering, Dan, what is your favorite Girl
Scout cookie?
Speaker 10 (19:22):
I am a sucker for the dosey. Does those are
the peanut butter sandwich ones?
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (19:27):
Yes, And I revealed as these were coming out, I
found out I had a coconut allergy because of samoas.
Because I just downed like and almost send my throat
started to swallow a bit. So it's all the peanut
butter sandwich Docey does for me.
Speaker 9 (19:42):
I was fortunate for you.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Be carefully right, and that's your money maker. Man, your throat,
I mean.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
Be careful. Are you doing absolutely three macs? That's it freezing?
Speaker 8 (19:53):
It's a death I'd be willing to have.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
I know you would.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Dan, stay here for a second because I'm w Taylor
to say to you and the audience and to everyone
what he said to me in my headset, and I
totally agree with him.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
Just so you know, Dan, I said, the more I
hear from you, the more I want to talk to you.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
Oh, I appreciate that. I love talking to you guys
as well.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Well, we appreciate it. You with the MVP of yesterday show, Taylor,
feel free to talk to him if you want, right now,
go ahead.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Do you think of the package that the Rangers gave
up for Mackenzie Gore because no top one hundred prospects
in there.
Speaker 10 (20:25):
I'm underwhelming, Hey, and the and the team controls, so
like the Mets give up two prospects to the to
the Brewers for Freddy Peralta and he's you know, could
be a one year rental.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Who knows if we'll have baseball in two years. But yeah,
great point, Yeah, interested. It is interesting.
Speaker 10 (20:40):
By the way we sawve the Robert case, it is
Robert according to Baseball Reference on the pronunciation of Robert.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
I would like to speak to the Roberts and ask them.
I don't care what Baseball references unless it's a Cuban
Baseball reference, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I only care what Dan says.
Speaker 9 (20:59):
I mean, Look, I would love it if Taylor wanted
to talk to me more often, given that we do
shows together.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
So you know, Taylor also just dawned on me for
we can observations. We do have a Dan now.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
Alone.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yes, I'm sorry in advance, Dan, thank you.
Speaker 9 (21:16):
Speaking of Dan, there's something in the update there that
I'm just I was just laughing at. How do you
think that conversation went between Rich Paul?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Oh, I was gonna guess which of the stories you
were laughing at, because we all have the same reaction
to it, So go ahead explain.
Speaker 8 (21:30):
The story here.
Speaker 9 (21:30):
Well, no, I was I had a crazy reaction to
Jim Mersey's death being investigated by the FBI. But also
that conversation between Rich Paul and the Dallas Mavericks where
Rich Paul says I would like Anthony Davis traded by
the end of the week, and I imagine the Dallas
Mavericks just responding with I'm trying Jennifer because they've been
They're gonna try to get rid of him regardless. But
(21:52):
every single time he gets hurt, another team is just like, well,
I'm not taking a chance on that guy because he
had hand surgery, just playing normal defense, getting his hands stuck. Yes,
between him and a defender, Boom, broken hand.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
And when he recovers from that, he'll break something else.
I mean, oh god, I'll get to the to the
stat of the day. We all have the same reaction
to that. I love the story that's come out. Where
is it Genie buss Is not getting along with Lebron
James and his crew. Welcome to the.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Party, pal, This is what they do. They take over
your organization.
Speaker 9 (22:29):
When Baxter Holmes decides to break down and write a
story about you, you probably gotta find some details that
you don't want. And the Genie bus La Lakers stories, Oh,
it's been a pretty funny family story for a while.
But yeah, her and Lebron not getting along, it was
just a matter of time.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Are you saying that it takes a story like this
to inspire Baxter Holmes, who I've never heard of before.
I apologize, but to inspire him to get off his
couch and write.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
No, I'm just saying, if you see a Baxter homes byline,
just know there's gonna be some great detail in there.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
Okay, I have a stat of the Day.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
I'm certain we don't have imaging for it, but that's fine,
we don't need it.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
It's a great stat Here is the stat?
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Is he this Sunday Sean McVay, who feels like he's
been around forever. We'll coach his first game in his forties.
It's crazy. Welcome to your forties, I know.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Is that nuts?
Speaker 9 (23:23):
It is because I forget how young he started. He's
basically looked about the same, like he hasn't really aged.
In fact, it feel like he's going backwards really a
little bit. I mean, I think he looks a little
younger in the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I can tell you who's not going backwards. That's Kyle Shanahan.
I don't know if you saw the side by side
pictures of one Kyle Shanahan first started coaching and where
he's at right now now. I don't know if it
has something to do with these electrical substations that are
going on right next to their practice field. But Kyle Shanahan,
it was all over social media yesterday. Man, has that
(23:56):
guy aged?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Well?
Speaker 9 (23:57):
The substantion thing just on an a side find hilarious
because I saw where they were basically saying it's been debunked,
but we're looking into it. Oh, it's either one.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Or the other.
Speaker 9 (24:08):
But no Kyle Shanahan. Yeah, the side by side of
him from twenty seventeen to twenty fifteen yes.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Very jarring.
Speaker 9 (24:16):
But I will say for those who hadn't seen it,
he set himself up with the first one, right, because
you can tell he looks so good, right, well, you
can tell by the color of his hair. And the
second one, which is more natural, it's got some silver
streaks in it. That that one on the left from
twenty seventeen, that wasn't his original hair color, right, he
was dying it back then. He doesn't have as much
sun right, his face looks a lot more pale, and
(24:38):
he's growing out the beard currently, or the at least
they go, yeah, the full beard, and so yeah, if
you look at that one from twenty seventeen, I feel
like he probably looks about a decade younger than he
really shouldn't he really was at the time.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
I have a top five list of occupations slash hobbies
that age you the quickest, Okay me particular, well, Joe
just in general. Or if you take one of these jobs,
you're going to age at a at a rate where
no one else ages. You get what I'm saying, Yes,
you get old very quickly. Kyle Shanahan looks like he's
about to coach his first game in his eighties. It's great.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
He does look very sad, yes, but I think the
I think the gray streaks work for him. I think
the way you can tell most people don't. I mean
a lot of people recognize this already. The best way
to tell aging is just around the eyes, especially for
a guy who doesn't do the whole skincare routine like
probably most men don't. That's where you age the quickest.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
How are my eyes?
Speaker 9 (25:32):
I'm not gonna stare at you right now.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
We'll talk later.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
Number five here these again.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
This is top five occupations or hobbies that will aid
you the quickest. Okay. Number five. Overnight radio host Mikey
is nodding his head in agreement. I've never seen you
agree with.
Speaker 8 (25:51):
Me as somebody who's who's been there. Yep. And I'd
love Dan Byer's take on that too.
Speaker 9 (26:01):
Dam didn't expect to work this much on this show.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
No, He's like, hey, can I get back to.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Just doing an update? I mean, Jesus Christ, how unprofessional
are these people?
Speaker 9 (26:09):
I will say that before cell phones, if I was
ever out at night driving around, if I ever needed
a quick sports update, that was my favorite thing to do.
Just put on the overnight guy. You know, it would
be like clockwork. Every ten to fifteen minutes, you'd get updates.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Well, I think the overnight host job is to just
do updates over and over and over again because no
one's calling it and you run out of things to say, and.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
So what you do is just update the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
You know, remember Eddiekaplan who used to do it down
here in Miami.
Speaker 9 (26:37):
Just trying to remember his last name.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
He would stay on until the final pitch of a
Major League baseball game. He would not get off the
air until the final pitch of the final game that
particular night.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Number four.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Being a Jets fan.
Speaker 9 (26:52):
Hm, you guys get paid.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
That's a hobby. Oh, yes, I did. I clarified hobbies
number three. The NFL coach. I didn't know that it
aged you like that until I looked at Kyle Shanahana
McVeigh looks great.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Yeah, he does, he really does.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
He's a young forty the old ball coach. The old
ball coach, well said, Taylor, You've been waiting to say
that your entire life. I'm so happy for you, number
two President of the United States.
Speaker 9 (27:30):
It's number two.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Yes, look at pictures of Barack Obama when he first
went into office and when he left office, that guy aged,
and he aged quickly. Most presidents do. And number one
morning show radio host again, Mikey, are you agreeing with me?
Speaker 9 (27:51):
So if you find yourself aging too quickly as a
morning show host, do you then request the overnight shift
so you age a little bit slower.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
You're trying to yourself the afternoons right here?
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Three to five? Perfect?
Speaker 8 (28:04):
You want to put some bags under your eyes? Do
the morning show?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Oh, it's brutal, it is so so bad. It's the
It's the shift that I would least want to do
in radio.
Speaker 9 (28:13):
Now that I see them under the shadow of your
ball cap.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
Yeah, not terrible. I look pretty good, not terrible.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I gotta be honest. I was checking myself out earlier today. Yeah,
and I was like, man, I gotta tell you, with
everything you've done to yourself, you look pretty good. I
was talking to myself. I mean, I'm going crazy.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
How big was the mirror? Just the face? Their full buddy.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
So it was an angled mirror.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
To make me look.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
Better, A flattering angled mirror.
Speaker 9 (28:42):
What angle specifically is he?
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Are you turned off by college football because I'm reading
about Dari mensa, who is the quarterback formerly with Duke, Well,
you might still be with Duke went into the portal
going to Miami. Miami's offered him, you know, a whole
new deal, ten million dollar nil deal, separate andil deals,
and a scholarship for his sister, who plays soccer currently
(29:08):
at the University of Oregon. And the reason I ask,
are you tired of college football? I am because it
is giving me a headache. It is too much. You
have players. I have no idea who's playing quarterback for
what school next year. I'm not certain who's coaching what
team next year. And I know we're coming off a
great playoff, an exceptional championship game, especially in that second half.
(29:31):
But college football, they need to get somebody to wrangle
this in and be the commissioner. Whether it's Nick Saban
or somebody or anybody else. Okay, they need to get
someone who is in charge of college football and has
the ability to wrangle this thing in.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Because now you have a situation.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Where Duke is suing the kid who played quarterback for
them last year.
Speaker 9 (29:54):
It's not it feels messy, right, But to offer a counterpoint,
I will simply read from a show sheet provided by
Taylor Hippolis of the VIP Room. He said, when NIL started,
people thought the Alabamas of the world would pull even
further away, and it's been the exact opposite. And then
he has another note that says, which I don't know
how this is helpful for us. People also complained that
(30:18):
NIL was ruining college football in general. The season ended,
which one of the best stories in the history of
the sport. That's all true, It's all true.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Thank Taylor for that.
Speaker 9 (30:27):
Yes, but all the stuff that you're talking about, all
that mess that's happening underneath, as people are climbing up
to try to be the indianas, it's just even dirtier
than it was before. And then you start bringing in.
When I say dirtier, I mean it just feels dirtier,
like people stabbing each.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Other in the back in the shadows. I got to
be honest with Yeah.
Speaker 9 (30:47):
I'd rather have the FBI tapping telephones, yes, than people
suing each other.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yes, I mean a suit k full of cash. I mean,
that's that's what I'm talking about. Do it in a
back alley somewhere, you know.
Speaker 9 (30:58):
In that respect that, Yeah, I do think I've been
tired of this part of college football anyway. But for
those who have their you know, have to get involved
in it because it's the new recruiting. You know, more
power to you if you're that interested in that. But
I don't want to be on message boards wondering which
quarterback is going to sue his way out of his
current situation.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
So let me be very clear. I am fine with
the transfer portal. What I love about the transfer portal is,
you know, in years past, you would have a second
third string quarterback who would never get an opportunity to
play because he went to a school where there's a
guy in place, and that guy is not giving up
the number one starting job, and so now that kid
has the ability. Kyle McCord is a good example of
(31:38):
the kid who was with Ohio State had to transfer,
went to Syracuse led the nation in passing his senior year.
In years past, he would have had to sit on
the bench for Ohio State for a senior season. At
least he had the opportunity to go to Syracuse. He
led the NCAA in passing, and then the Eagles drafted
him I think maybe in the fifth or sixth rap.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
So I love the portal.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Can we figure out a way to wrangle all of
this sin so it's not all willy nilly and we're
jumping all over the place. And I have no idea.
Willy nilly is an old phrase, but I have no
idea who's playing quarterback where and who's coaching where. It
drives me crazy because we talked about the you being
back and if Carson Beck could finish off this great story,
what great story. We've never seen a story like it,
(32:22):
And then people were talking about Carson Beck being a
um great if he won the national championship.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
No, he was there for a season.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
He was a hired gun, erected quarterback to help the
U win a national championship.
Speaker 9 (32:34):
Such a contrived, feel a good story. You're right by
the way, I will. I no longer say willy nilly.
I now say Billy Gilly because it reminds us of
an old friend.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
He's an old producer, Billy Gilly. He's an old co host,
an old producer of ours. I tell you have something here,
I don't. Oh, you were leaning in like you had
something there, Like I thought I was in your wheelhouse
on that U way.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
To bail me out. I got you here, dude. Stud.
Speaker 10 (33:00):
Just to your point though about the transfer portal, Yes, yeah,
Dan in La, if you had to sit out a
year like like football and basketball used to have to,
how many of these guys are actually moving? That's my
question to it is. I think that change along with
all of nil. But to be immediately eligible to play
the next season, I think is really open. The Wild
(33:21):
Wild West.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Show on Sundays. You're doing too much over here. For

me and Izzy we're discussing surprisingly and Mikey you might
(35:01):
want to put on your catcher's glove. We were talking
about the Baseball Hall of Fame during the break and
is he asked me a very good question, an interesting question, Actually,
do you still care about the Baseball Hall of Fame
and so? And my answer was no, But I guarantee
(35:21):
you that Taylor does because Andy Pettitt did not get in.
And I'm guessing Taylor that you are furious because you're
a big time Yankee fan. So is mikey A. I
am guessing both of you are upset that Andy Pettitt,
with two hundred and six votes forty eight point five percent,
is not going in to Cooperstown Baseball's Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
So it was a big jump up from last year,
which is I guess encouraging. But yeah, I'm kind of
at the point where I just want them all in.
I want them all in at this point because you
can't tell the story of baseball without the Alex Rodriguez is,
the Barry Bonds is those guys when you watch their
careers now I know their their careers are tainted with steroids.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Yeah, but you can't.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
You can't tell the story of the nineties in baseball
without them. So if you want to put them in.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
And without the steroids, you mean, yes, if you want
to put them in and put like an asterisk on
their plaques, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
And do that.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
If you want to put them in a separate wing,
go ahead and do that. But I think their careers
deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
It's fake now, it's forget. The Baseball Hall of Fame
is for gazy.
Speaker 11 (36:24):
I got a kid who's perfect, like, wants to do
everything baseball.
Speaker 8 (36:27):
That's why I have the mint.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
Yeah, and he's dying to go to the Baseball Hall
of Fame, and I'm gonna take him. We're gonna walk
around and I'm gonna be like, yeah, but there were
a bunch of guys better than these guys that aren't
here because they took steroids like everybody else.
Speaker 9 (36:41):
If you if you actually play it out and they
do put out let's say a steroid era wing, it
would be the most popular section.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Of the Hall of Fame. It'd be the greatest of
the greats.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
I mean.
Speaker 9 (36:52):
The only part about it that I do like sort
of the unexpected result is the Andrew Joneses of the
world do get in because they're voting for somebody else.
And for me, I think the debatable guys probably should
get it anyway. But for me, the era that I
still loved baseball, Andrew Jones, who's a nightmare to deal with,
(37:14):
not only at the plate, but was just an crazy
impressive center fielder. So I think he absolutely deserved to
get in. Would he have gotten in if it wasn't
for people holding off and then just you know, keeping
the steroid users out.
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Maybe not.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Andrew Jones is certainly deserving of being in the Hall
of Fame. So was Carls Beltrin. I'm not certain. I mean,
Andy Pettitt is deserving. That's fair, and Taylor is right,
and I agree with it because I've spoken to Tim
Kirchin about this several times, and no one cares about
the Hall of Fame the way that guy cares about
the Baseball Hall of Fame. He agrees Bonds a rod manny,
(37:51):
any of the steroid guys they should be in the
Hall of Fame, have their own wing. Put an asterisk
to whatever you want, but those are some of the
greatest players who have ever played. Bonds was better before
stef if I'm being honest. He was a three time
MVP before he got to San Francisco.
Speaker 9 (38:04):
More of an all around player.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
Maybe.
Speaker 9 (38:06):
Do you think Carlos Beltrin is friends with Lewis Robert
because Beltran and I'm still going to die on this hill.
There's no chance. His name is Lewis Roberts, l Ui
S yes R O B E R T. As a
Cuban man. I believe Cuban. I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
I think he had the proper response earlier when you said,
let's ask the Roberts.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
Or the Robts for all.
Speaker 9 (38:31):
You know what I'd settle for asking the Beltrons. I
think they probably have a better answer than anybody in
any of these rooms in here.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Taylor, you're leaning in again. Now, I'm not confident going
to you, but you are leaning into the microphone like
you have something to say.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
People forget that Carls Beltron was tied to the Houston
ational scandal, remember when he was the Mets manager for
like two months.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Yes, you said that very quickly, because he had ten seconds. Yeah,
