Dreams game that you'll see on Netflix. Do you have
any feelings towards this game, Not.

Towards the game itself.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
I mean, I'm not a don't care about the Phillies
or the Twins, but the concept, the idea of the
Field of Dreams thing. Obviously, I'm a big nostalgia guy.
I love I love the feeling of what that brings
and what it can bring. I know, when we were
talking about this before the show, and you know, going
through the emails and you know, seeing Jay Stew's kind
(02:06):
of thoughts on it, I kind of fell in line
with that, right, I think, you know, having some of
those older teams or historical teams that were playing around
that time or even involved in that in that era
of when it was a big thing, would probably generate
more interest in it. But the idea behind it, I
think it's raally cool. I love the idea.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Jay, You're kind of it's kind of an original six
hockey sort of deal. You're thinking, like along those lines,
have used the teams that were used in the movie
at some point to play in this game.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
I mean, for those that don't know, because it's an
old movie. One of the main subjects of the movie
is the the Black Sox scandal of twenty nineteen, and
Shoeless Joe is a character in the movie, and I
understand ray Leota batting right handed really pisses a lot
of people on it, But I mean, it should be
the White Sox just host it, and then you bring
in like the team the American League teams that were

around back then. That's a finite number. It's like Tigers, Yankees,
Red Sox. That might be it, But I just think
that and just kind of have them dressed the way
they did, yea, that would that would be better? Like
Twins Phillies, Yeah, exactly to me.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
It isn't the teams now. I can't say that I
would be not drawn in or would be drawn in
if it was Pirates Royals.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Maybe maybe Paul Skeens being a part of that, Maybe
maybe the Reds better use. Maybe I'm not tuning in
for salth Stewart or whoever in Cincinnati. But there is
something to Kyle Schwarbur and Bryce Harper like playing that.
And I think that the Twins, because of their location
to Dyersville, Iowa and where it is in the state

of Minnesota, is also a little bit part of that.
It's a very funky and weird matchup, but the matchup
is the least of my worries in terms of doing it.
And Sam, I want to use you last because you've
been there and you're from Iowa. You've been to a
Field of Dreams game before. The reason that I like
it is because while I haven't been to a Field

of Dreams game before, I have been to Field of
Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. When I moved out to Los Angeles,
as I made my way leaving at the time southern
Wisconsin and going into Iowa, I made it as one
of my stops on my way out, so I stopped
and I remember that moment, and that is exactly that
(04:27):
is who I am. So I loved Field of Dreams
and then to be able to see the field and
to see where it is. Every time you go back
to it and see it, I always just say I've
I was there, I've been there, and another that there
are people like that as well that just feel a
certain way when I It's why I do like going
to different arenas and stadiums, because I can say that
(04:49):
I've been there. My favorite movie of all time is Hoosiers,
and right before COVID it was February of twenty twenty,
my wife and I took a trip back home to
Wisconsin to surprise my niece for her birthday, but the
second half of the trip was to go and find
the Hoosiers filming locations at different parts of Indiana, including
(05:12):
the gym that's used in the movie, which is in Knightstown, Indiana.
We went there. We went to the small town that
Hickory was supposed to be, which is a different part.
It's not even close to where Knightstown is, but we
went and hit all these spots. Saw the church where
the town gathered when they were gonna fire. Norman Dale
like went there, saw everything and it was so meaningful
(05:33):
to me and moving to me. And I'm not a
movie guy, but I loved seeing those spots and that's
what the Field of Dreams represents for me. Is No,
they're not playing on the diamond that's in the movie,
but it is the same cornfield down the way, and
just to see the corn in the outfield is pretty
cool whether you've been there or not. But I'm that
type of person that is like the I've been there,
(05:55):
so I'm going to watch and lock in. So that's
why it ends up meaning so much to me. It's
a home game basically for Iowa.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Sam. Does it change that you've been there? Are you
more excited or.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Less excited about this game because you've taken in a
Field of Dreams game.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
I'm excited that it's back because it's been on a
three year hiatus which they did a little construction and
development of the greater area of the Field of Dreams
the first one. I don't know if it can be topped.
I mean just in terms of me being there. I
went back. Originally this was twenty twenty one I went
back from my mom's seventieth birthday, so I was going
to be in town and I'm like, you know what,
just two weeks before the trip, I thought, why not,
(06:32):
I'll just apply for a credential.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Who knows, maybe I can get in.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
And I didn't get the credential wasn't approved until the
day of, so I was like, I thought, either the
boat the ship had sailed and I wasn't going to
be able to go. And then when I got an
email I think late morning that day, it was just
like the whole day just turned into this just fully
fast forward whirlwind and drove up there and it was
(06:56):
it was very because now they're trying to add a
little bit more development. They're adding a youth uh sports,
youth baseball complex sort of off to one side, and
they had all these you know, beautiful lights strung through
the corn and cutouts, and it just it looked very nostalgic.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
And what was the moment though, what was the moment that,
like you will, that that stands out to you the
most in experiencing that.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Well, it's it's hard to not put Tim Anderson's walk off,
you know. And then the fireworks going off right at
the top. Oh, because the way they I think it
was like eight seven the game ended and and just
the fireworks, and yeah, I think that, But there were
a lot of moments just walking around and interacting with
a bunch of guys dressed up like old timey, you know,
White Sox players, and it was just it was magical.
(07:39):
And I remember the tickets were going for like thousands
of dollars because this was such a novel idea. Just
to it felt like you were at a very and
for Iowa being at some kind of elite event, it
was that's kind of rare.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
So this was very special.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, there's pride that that comes with it, and there's
something to it, and just again just of being on
the site and there's stories and the movie and everything
that comes with it just brings me to it. But
I'm also like, I also realized that not everybody is
like that. And I'm not saying that Jason Stewart isn't
like that. You were just in Buffalo, though, and your
(08:12):
son wanted to see the new stadium. You and I
were there a year ago for the farewell to the
old stadium, but it was a different feeling for you.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Don't you guys think that. Obviously, basketball arenas, but like
NFL stadiums are kind of cookie cutters. I mean there's
a couple exceptions. Lambeau obviously would be a destination for me,
and if you're talking about like experiencing a game, that's
one thing, but like just going there to kind of
walk around the parking lot and stuff, I didn't do
much for me and my son wanted to see it
(08:40):
and we did it, and it's cool. But yeah, you
have to admit though, baseball ballparks, especially of the recent iteration,
there's something just charming about them. They all have their
own personality. And I could see like going to a
baseball stadium when the team's not in town and like
doing a stadium tour and whatnot. But football stadiums are
different to me.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, I actually I do agree with that. Everything is
kind of and now everything with their the roofs, I mean,
of all the teams that are planning on or trying
to get new stadiums. Yeah, and there's also like the
fact that the NFL is you have your one hundred
and twenty yards of sod right, and then it's not
like you have a end zone that is that that
has a wall that you have to jump over, like
(09:21):
you would like each ballpark is different in a certain
in its own certain way. Some are more more appealing
to try to go to than others.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Well that's what Jerry's world did, right, the big screen,
Like that's something there that's different than most stadiums, right,
the bigger, bigger screen or like lambou obviously the lambeau Leap,
Like people want to be taken a part in that.
Like that's the thing. So even as a player, the
first time I played there, I was like, this is
lambeau Field, you know, so and what about did you
play in Jerry Stadium?
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I did?
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Okay, So seeing that that store the store war is crazy. Yeah,
like that's the thing you remember. But here's the thing
that's funny is it was that was like revolutionary at
the time because it was just so enormous. Yes, but
now so far has their own version of that scoreboard. Uh,
Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Falcons play, they
(10:10):
have their own sort of version of a scoreboard.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Arrowheads, arrowheads kind of dynamic as well.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
But yeah, my point is the newer stadiums, though, everything
is just to Jason's point, it's kind of being the
same but trying to be a little bit different.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Different, I mean from the outside looking in. I mean
from the outside, not looking in. From the outside. The
new stadium for the Bills looks a lot like Allegiant,
and these just kind of newer age. I guess they're
cool to experience inside, but they're not much.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
Is it just is it just the history for you
Jays baseball usually it seems like it's just it's a
historical thing, right.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
And and by the way, college football stadiums are much different.
I would I would like to go. Yeah, I would
like to go see Notre Dame Stadium from the outside.
You don't necessarily need to experience a game there.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Here's here's the I'm sorry, ahead, I was, Sam, I
was just going to add to that.
Speaker 7 (11:01):
I'm glad Jason brought up college stadiums, especially for football.
I feel like you just have these wonderful like just
slabs of stands and bleachers for college football, and these
newer stadiums in the NFL, they feel like a very
compartmentalized like a lot of different tiers of seating and
then just different little sections and they're obviously trying to
make money off that, and you know, you can pay
for this cabana or like this level of suite, and
(11:22):
it just feels everything's kind of like separated. But you
go to these old college stadiums and it's just the
bleachers just going from you know, row one up to
row fifty, and it's just a different feel.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I know of a couple of guys that have separate
would they have and for their luck, it's changed throughout
the years in a good way where they've had Big
ten trips. So because they're from Wisconsin and their goals,
each year the group of buddies goes to a different
Big ten stadium. So it started with eleven, you know,
(11:56):
the eleven schools, and then now because of the expanse
in with Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers, and you throw in the West,
you know, the back twelve schools. Now they've got eighteen
schools to try to fill out and it's actually probably
fun for them. But once a year I'll see one
group and they'll be like, hey, we're in East Lansing
for the Michigan State game. And another one that we're
in a Happy Valley where at the Penn State game,
(12:17):
So that's neat to see that way. The other level
of college football where I also agree with you guys
is Jason and I went to the Bills Dolphins game
last year and it was Thursday night game high Mark Stadium.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Thursday Night. Was a lot of fun, great great time.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
But it's not guess what I was at LSU, Florida
night game, Death Valley Baton Rouge. Oh No, it's not
like there's so many levels to it you could go.
We were talking about Jane Daniels earlier. Just to use
LSU as an example, maybe the lowest ring is, Yeah,
I saw LSU and Georgia State play in an afternoon,
And then the next one is I saw LSU and
(12:58):
Georgia play in the afternoon, which is what I did.
I feel like I didn't get the full Death Valley
experience because the game that I saw at LSU was
a two thirty Central time kickoff because it was on CBS.
But it's that going to a game at night, like
going to Fenway Park was awesome. I've been there a
couple of times. I've been there for a World Series.
(13:18):
I've seen the Yankees and Red Sox play. But if
I'm going to Fenway Park. I obviously don't care if
they're playing the Yankees of the Red Sox. You know,
like in that aspect of it where college football, I
think that there are different levels to it. There's obviously
different levels if you're going to a playoff game or
going to a World Series. But I think that if
you're saying, you know, night game, night game at Kinnick,
you know, it could be different than just a regular
(13:42):
eleven o'clock Central.
Speaker 7 (13:43):
Eleven am against Central Michigan. You know, he does not
have the feel of Ohio State Iowa at night.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Yeah, so there's like all those like different fields. So
I think your points about college football are are are
good when we're comparing it to what the feel is
with baseball?
Speaker 6 (13:57):
Yeah, Dan, Can I give your wife credit? Could I
give Lisa credit?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Hey, Lisa, please tell me that a part of that
trip was a negotiation. In other words, she said, fine,
well go to your Hoosiers thing, damn, but you need
to do a daseball with me the same day. Like
it was a give and take because because that's very
unselfish to go to the Hoosier's house.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
It's not the days by, it's a Christmas story. They
agreed on a Christmas story location after that. That's what's
why the house is the shooting.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Right. I've been there twice.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I've told the story the locked out of the house
on my first tour before it was popular.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Is that also in Indiana?
Speaker 3 (14:37):
No, that's in Cleveland, right, yeah, okay, but in Indiana
there was no exchange. However, however, I made my wife.
I've posted this video on TikTok on social media. There's
in Hoosier's. The beginning is Norman Dale, the new head coach,
driving into a hickory driving to the new school, and
(14:59):
so he's driving through all this Indiana farmland, and there's
also this this scene of like him driving into town.
We took that same road into this into this small town,
and I had the Hoosier theme song playing, and I'm
driving in and it's it's fall, it's it's it's it's
(15:20):
not fall. It's February, late February, but it's wet. There's
no snow on the ground, but it's wet, there's no
leaves on the trees. But the music is playing and
she was brought to tears, like she got emotional, really, yes,
because of this and how it was playing and the
music like really helped because it's just a great theme.
But it's seriously, the town was an intersection and had
(15:40):
one flashing red stoplight and it's the same route that
that Norman Dale took in the movie, and we were
able to relive it. And my wife loves to shoot hoops.
None of you guys, I don't think know about this,
but she loves to shoot hoops. So when we went
to the Hoosier gym, she was all about shooting hoops.
Now taking her to the Field of Dreams, I don't
think she cares, and she doesn't want to field pop flies.
(16:02):
She didn't need to take a you know, swing in
the batter's box or run around the bases. My son might.
But that's so that was different. So she actually did
have an effect, but I probably do or two, three
or five spoted Lisa is a hooperh huh. Yeah, she
looks she's a gunner too. Yeah, she's chucking them from
twenty five. That's all right, Yeah, what you got Sam?
Speaker 7 (16:24):
One more thing about the Field of Dreams game from
twenty twenty one. Like today it's gonna be a little
stormy today, it's gonna be probably rain off and on,
which is unfortunate. The first year, it was overcast during
the day, like pretty much going into the game, but
as the sun was setting, it like everything just opened
up and it was a beautiful, absolutely gorgeous purples and
oranges and yellow sunset. And I was standing on the
(16:47):
original movie site bleachers like the little diamond, looking out
and I'll post these pictures to my Twitter later, but
like the sunset, and then I was watching kids play
catch on the original diamond, looking at just the entire
complex and people running the bases, and it felt that
almost might have been better than the Tim Anderson walk
off home run, because that was like all the nostalgia
(17:08):
of the movie. And then the sunset with that was
just made it really special.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
As someone from Iowa to people will be like, hey,
let's go to a field of dream site today or
is it just like you've gone once and you've you're done.
I know it's different now because there, as you said,
youth baseball diamonds built on another cornfield and the whole deal.
But I mean, is it a place where locals end
up frequenting?
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Ah?
Speaker 7 (17:30):
I mean, you know it's from It's I don't know.
I think that a lot of people do it once
and then they might do it again. But it's not
like going to the Lost Island water park.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
In Waterloo, Iowa, where you're like, you know, go do that.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
But you know, Dyersville is I think about an hour
and twenty minutes from my hometown of Iowa City, so
it wasn't it wasn't bad to get up there.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Here's the other thing about the town that I realized
is I remember it was off the beaten path, Like
I had to go through Dyersville and the site was
like on the other side of town, so you had
to Like, it wasn't just like take this exit going there.
Speaker 7 (18:02):
It is like there was took some effort to actual
in the middle of a cornfield. It's in the middle
of nowhere.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Really. Yeah, and you see that at the end with
the lights and the at the end of the movie, Yeah,
where they're lined up. Correct, the people came.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
But it's true it takes it takes an effort to
get the old there come. Manzi Blanos is a baseball fan.
Do you have you have any desire? You moved it
all by the Field of Dreams game?
Speaker 8 (18:24):
Yeah, I would like to go one day. I think
that's on the bucket list.
Speaker 9 (18:27):
Yeah, it's it's it feels differently than a typical baseball game.
And there's something with baseball I think Carrie you were
saying like there's some sort of nostalgia with it, like
it's different than other sports.
Speaker 10 (18:38):
You know.
Speaker 8 (18:39):
So I it's definitely something. I hope to make it too.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Yeah, put it on the put it on the list.

You can relive the relive the moves of the part
and field of dreams that I'm sure people will talk
my parts where the doctor crosses over and is old
again and he can't go back to save the girl
from choking. Oh, it's not so much the the catch
at the end, but at the heart strings, well, it's
it's every every single time.

Oh Graham, no one's called me that years. Right then
he walks off into Oh it's you know, and everybody
that gives him a the thanks doc. Yeah, oh great,
great play in the movie.

The one line that gets a lot of I guess
criticism is Dad, could we have a catch? Or would
you like to have a catch? Nobody says that, no,
let's play catch. That's I've never I've played baseball. For
forty some odd years. I've never said let's have a catch.
That's the weird one. But I do want to hear
James rol Jones because this is a great part of

the story. We can't have a segment about Shield of
Dreams without this.

Baseball has mark the time, this field, this game, it's
a part of our past.

fans representing the city. The city is wonderful, especially South
Philly where I've been the most a lot of wonderful restaurants.
It was just very humid. It was like tropically humid
under there. For someone coming from the West Coast where
it's dry as a bone here and hot. That took
some adjustment. The first couple of days were stifling humidity.

But I got used to it and it got a
little a little easier in terms of the weather, and
I just had a wonderful time. It was with family,
celebrated for them birthday, so it was a lot of fun.

It was. It went went by fast, because that's it's
a real vacation.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
I had to take it out a long time where
you're maybe sitting beachside in some tropical location. This is
always going back you like you Dan, you know, going
back to Wisconsin, going back to Iowa, or going somewhere
to see family.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
It's just go, go, go. There's not a lot of
time just to sit and relax. Was carried there. How
long was that cut? How long does it say, Sam,
well you intro Does it say fifty nine seconds? I
wasn't all right, like forty five? My sense hard on me.

You're closer yet it did no, It did feel like
a minute and a half though, right like it felt
like that, like Trump, it's not about boring or not

or the Twins, but the concept, the idea of the
Field of Dreams thing. Obviously, I'm a big nostalgia guy.
I love I love the feeling of what that brings
and what it can bring. I know, when we were
talking about this before the show, and you know, going
through the emails and you know, seeing Jay Stew's kind

of thoughts on it, I kind of fell in line
with that, right, I think, you know, having some of
those older teams or historical teams that were playing around
that time or even involved in that in that era
of when it was a big thing, would probably generate
more interest in it. But the idea behind it, I
think it's raally cool. I love the idea.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Jay, You're kind of it's kind of an original six
hockey sort of deal. You're thinking, like along those lines,
have used the teams that were used in the movie
at some point to play in this game.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
I mean, for those that don't know, because it's an
old movie. One of the main subjects of the movie
is the the Black Sox scandal of twenty nineteen, and
Shoeless Joe is a character in the movie, and I
understand ray Leota batting right handed really pisses a lot
of people on it, But I mean, it should be
the White Sox just host it, and then you bring
in like the team the American League teams that were

around back then. That's a finite number. It's like Tigers, Yankees,
Red Sox. That might be it, But I just think
that and just kind of have them dressed the way
they did, yea, that would that would be better? Like
Twins Phillies, Yeah, exactly to me.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
It isn't the teams now. I can't say that I
would be not drawn in or would be drawn in
if it was Pirates Royals.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
I don't know.

Maybe maybe Paul Skeens being a part of that, Maybe
maybe the Reds better use. Maybe I'm not tuning in
for salth Stewart or whoever in Cincinnati. But there is
something to Kyle Schwarbur and Bryce Harper like playing that.
And I think that the Twins, because of their location
to Dyersville, Iowa and where it is in the state

of Minnesota, is also a little bit part of that.
It's a very funky and weird matchup, but the matchup
is the least of my worries in terms of doing it.
And Sam, I want to use you last because you've
been there and you're from Iowa. You've been to a
Field of Dreams game before. The reason that I like
it is because while I haven't been to a Field
(04:05):
of Dreams game before, I have been to Field of
Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. When I moved out to Los Angeles,
as I made my way leaving at the time southern
Wisconsin and going into Iowa, I made it as one
of my stops on my way out, so I stopped
and I remember that moment, and that is exactly that
(04:27):
is who I am. So I loved Field of Dreams
and then to be able to see the field and
to see where it is. Every time you go back
to it and see it, I always just say I've
I was there, I've been there, and another that there
are people like that as well that just feel a
certain way when I It's why I do like going
to different arenas and stadiums, because I can say that
(04:49):
I've been there. My favorite movie of all time is Hoosiers,
and right before COVID it was February of twenty twenty,
my wife and I took a trip back home to
Wisconsin to surprise my niece for her birthday, but the
second half of the trip was to go and find
the Hoosiers filming locations at different parts of Indiana, including
(05:12):
the gym that's used in the movie, which is in Knightstown, Indiana.
We went there. We went to the small town that
Hickory was supposed to be, which is a different part.
It's not even close to where Knightstown is, but we
went and hit all these spots. Saw the church where
the town gathered when they were gonna fire. Norman Dale
like went there, saw everything and it was so meaningful
(05:33):
to me and moving to me. And I'm not a
movie guy, but I loved seeing those spots and that's
what the Field of Dreams represents for me. Is No,
they're not playing on the diamond that's in the movie,
but it is the same cornfield down the way, and
just to see the corn in the outfield is pretty
cool whether you've been there or not. But I'm that
type of person that is like the I've been there,
(05:55):
so I'm going to watch and lock in. So that's
why it ends up meaning so much to me. It's
a home game basically for Iowa.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Sam. Does it change that you've been there? Are you
more excited or.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Less excited about this game because you've taken in a
Field of Dreams game.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
I'm excited that it's back because it's been on a
three year hiatus which they did a little construction and
development of the greater area of the Field of Dreams
the first one. I don't know if it can be topped.
I mean just in terms of me being there. I
went back. Originally this was twenty twenty one I went
back from my mom's seventieth birthday, so I was going
to be in town and I'm like, you know what,
just two weeks before the trip, I thought, why not,
(06:32):
I'll just apply for a credential.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Who knows, maybe I can get in.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
And I didn't get the credential wasn't approved until the
day of, so I was like, I thought, either the
boat the ship had sailed and I wasn't going to
be able to go. And then when I got an
email I think late morning that day, it was just
like the whole day just turned into this just fully
fast forward whirlwind and drove up there and it was
(06:56):
it was very because now they're trying to add a
little bit more development. They're adding a youth uh sports,
youth baseball complex sort of off to one side, and
they had all these you know, beautiful lights strung through
the corn and cutouts, and it just it looked very nostalgic.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
And what was the moment though, what was the moment that,
like you will, that that stands out to you the
most in experiencing that.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Well, it's it's hard to not put Tim Anderson's walk off,
you know. And then the fireworks going off right at
the top. Oh, because the way they I think it
was like eight seven the game ended and and just
the fireworks, and yeah, I think that, But there were
a lot of moments just walking around and interacting with
a bunch of guys dressed up like old timey, you know,
White Sox players, and it was just it was magical.
(07:39):
And I remember the tickets were going for like thousands
of dollars because this was such a novel idea. Just
to it felt like you were at a very and
for Iowa being at some kind of elite event, it
was that's kind of rare.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
So this was very special.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, there's pride that that comes with it, and there's
something to it, and just again just of being on
the site and there's stories and the movie and everything
that comes with it just brings me to it. But
I'm also like, I also realized that not everybody is
like that. And I'm not saying that Jason Stewart isn't
like that. You were just in Buffalo, though, and your
(08:12):
son wanted to see the new stadium. You and I
were there a year ago for the farewell to the
old stadium, but it was a different feeling for you.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Don't you guys think that. Obviously, basketball arenas, but like
NFL stadiums are kind of cookie cutters. I mean there's
a couple exceptions. Lambeau obviously would be a destination for me,
and if you're talking about like experiencing a game, that's
one thing, but like just going there to kind of
walk around the parking lot and stuff, I didn't do
much for me and my son wanted to see it
(08:40):
and we did it, and it's cool. But yeah, you
have to admit though, baseball ballparks, especially of the recent iteration,
there's something just charming about them. They all have their
own personality. And I could see like going to a
baseball stadium when the team's not in town and like
doing a stadium tour and whatnot. But football stadiums are
different to me.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, I actually I do agree with that. Everything is
kind of and now everything with their the roofs, I mean,
of all the teams that are planning on or trying
to get new stadiums. Yeah, and there's also like the
fact that the NFL is you have your one hundred
and twenty yards of sod right, and then it's not
like you have a end zone that is that that
has a wall that you have to jump over, like
(09:21):
you would like each ballpark is different in a certain
in its own certain way. Some are more more appealing
to try to go to than others.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Well that's what Jerry's world did, right, the big screen,
Like that's something there that's different than most stadiums, right,
the bigger, bigger screen or like lambou obviously the lambeau Leap,
Like people want to be taken a part in that.
Like that's the thing. So even as a player, the
first time I played there, I was like, this is
lambeau Field, you know, so and what about did you
play in Jerry Stadium?
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I did?
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Okay, So seeing that that store the store war is crazy. Yeah,
like that's the thing you remember. But here's the thing
that's funny is it was that was like revolutionary at
the time because it was just so enormous. Yes, but
now so far has their own version of that scoreboard. Uh,
Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Falcons play, they

have their own sort of version of a scoreboard.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Arrowheads, arrowheads kind of dynamic as well.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
But yeah, my point is the newer stadiums, though, everything
is just to Jason's point, it's kind of being the
same but trying to be a little bit different.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Different, I mean from the outside looking in. I mean
from the outside, not looking in. From the outside. The
new stadium for the Bills looks a lot like Allegiant,
and these just kind of newer age. I guess they're
cool to experience inside, but they're not much.

I'm glad Jason brought up college stadiums, especially for football.
I feel like you just have these wonderful like just
slabs of stands and bleachers for college football, and these
newer stadiums in the NFL, they feel like a very
compartmentalized like a lot of different tiers of seating and
then just different little sections and they're obviously trying to
make money off that, and you know, you can pay
for this cabana or like this level of suite, and

it just feels everything's kind of like separated. But you
go to these old college stadiums and it's just the
bleachers just going from you know, row one up to
row fifty, and it's just a different feel.

I know of a couple of guys that have separate
would they have and for their luck, it's changed throughout
the years in a good way where they've had Big
ten trips. So because they're from Wisconsin and their goals,
each year the group of buddies goes to a different
Big ten stadium. So it started with eleven, you know,

the eleven schools, and then now because of the expanse
in with Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers, and you throw in the West,
you know, the back twelve schools. Now they've got eighteen
schools to try to fill out and it's actually probably
fun for them. But once a year I'll see one
group and they'll be like, hey, we're in East Lansing
for the Michigan State game. And another one that we're
in a Happy Valley where at the Penn State game,

So that's neat to see that way. The other level
of college football where I also agree with you guys
is Jason and I went to the Bills Dolphins game
last year and it was Thursday night game high Mark Stadium.

Thursday Night. Was a lot of fun, great great time.

But it's not guess what I was at LSU, Florida
night game, Death Valley Baton Rouge. Oh No, it's not
like there's so many levels to it you could go.
We were talking about Jane Daniels earlier. Just to use
LSU as an example, maybe the lowest ring is, Yeah,
I saw LSU and Georgia State play in an afternoon,
And then the next one is I saw LSU and

Georgia play in the afternoon, which is what I did.
I feel like I didn't get the full Death Valley
experience because the game that I saw at LSU was
a two thirty Central time kickoff because it was on CBS.
But it's that going to a game at night, like
going to Fenway Park was awesome. I've been there a
couple of times. I've been there for a World Series.

I've seen the Yankees and Red Sox play. But if
I'm going to Fenway Park. I obviously don't care if
they're playing the Yankees of the Red Sox. You know,
like in that aspect of it where college football, I
think that there are different levels to it. There's obviously
different levels if you're going to a playoff game or
going to a World Series. But I think that if
you're saying, you know, night game, night game at Kinnick,
you know, it could be different than just a regular

eleven o'clock Central.

Eleven am against Central Michigan. You know, he does not
have the feel of Ohio State Iowa at night.

Yeah, so there's like all those like different fields. So
I think your points about college football are are are
good when we're comparing it to what the feel is
with baseball?

Hey, Lisa, please tell me that a part of that
trip was a negotiation. In other words, she said, fine,

It's not the days by, it's a Christmas story. They
agreed on a Christmas story location after that. That's what's

I've posted this video on TikTok on social media. There's
in Hoosier's. The beginning is Norman Dale, the new head coach,

so he's driving through all this Indiana farmland, and there's
also this this scene of like him driving into town.
We took that same road into this into this small town,
and I had the Hoosier theme song playing, and I'm
driving in and it's it's fall, it's it's it's it's

not fall. It's February, late February, but it's wet. There's
no snow on the ground, but it's wet, there's no
leaves on the trees. But the music is playing and
she was brought to tears, like she got emotional, really, yes,
because of this and how it was playing and the
music like really helped because it's just a great theme.
But it's seriously, the town was an intersection and had

one flashing red stoplight and it's the same route that
that Norman Dale took in the movie, and we were
able to relive it. And my wife loves to shoot hoops.
None of you guys, I don't think know about this,
but she loves to shoot hoops. So when we went
to the Hoosier gym, she was all about shooting hoops.
Now taking her to the Field of Dreams, I don't
think she cares, and she doesn't want to field pop flies.

She didn't need to take a you know, swing in
the batter's box or run around the bases. My son might.
But that's so that was different. So she actually did
have an effect, but I probably do or two, three
or five spoted Lisa is a hooperh huh. Yeah, she
looks she's a gunner too. Yeah, she's chucking them from
twenty five. That's all right, Yeah, what you got Sam?

One more thing about the Field of Dreams game from
twenty twenty one. Like today it's gonna be a little
stormy today, it's gonna be probably rain off and on,
which is unfortunate. The first year, it was overcast during
the day, like pretty much going into the game, but
as the sun was setting, it like everything just opened
up and it was a beautiful, absolutely gorgeous purples and
oranges and yellow sunset. And I was standing on the

original movie site bleachers like the little diamond, looking out
and I'll post these pictures to my Twitter later, but
like the sunset, and then I was watching kids play
catch on the original diamond, looking at just the entire
complex and people running the bases, and it felt that
almost might have been better than the Tim Anderson walk
off home run, because that was like all the nostalgia

of the movie. And then the sunset with that was
just made it really special.

As someone from Iowa to people will be like, hey,
let's go to a field of dream site today or
is it just like you've gone once and you've you're done.
I know it's different now because there, as you said,
youth baseball diamonds built on another cornfield and the whole deal.
But I mean, is it a place where locals end
up frequenting?

I mean, you know it's from It's I don't know.
I think that a lot of people do it once
and then they might do it again. But it's not
like going to the Lost Island water park.

In Waterloo, Iowa, where you're like, you know, go do that.

But you know, Dyersville is I think about an hour
and twenty minutes from my hometown of Iowa City, so
it wasn't it wasn't bad to get up there.

Here's the other thing about the town that I realized
is I remember it was off the beaten path, Like
I had to go through Dyersville and the site was
like on the other side of town, so you had
to Like, it wasn't just like take this exit going there.

It is like there was took some effort to actual
in the middle of a cornfield. It's in the middle
of nowhere.

Really. Yeah, and you see that at the end with
the lights and the at the end of the movie, Yeah,
where they're lined up. Correct, the people came.

But it's true it takes it takes an effort to
get the old there come. Manzi Blanos is a baseball fan.
Do you have you have any desire? You moved it
all by the Field of Dreams game?

Yeah, I would like to go one day. I think
that's on the bucket list.

Yeah, it's it's it feels differently than a typical baseball game.
And there's something with baseball I think Carrie you were
saying like there's some sort of nostalgia with it, like
it's different than other sports.

Oh do we have Do we have the long sound
bite from from Mike Gonzales that our editor in the
back the last segment. Let's play it. Let's play that
it was Sam back from Philadelphia? How was the city
of Brotherly Love on the vacation. Philly is great.
Speaker 7 (34:45):
I know it gets a lot of crap from people
who maybe just think of it the sports teams and
fans representing the city. The city is wonderful, especially South
Philly where I've been the most a lot of wonderful restaurants.
It was just very humid. It was like tropically humid
under there. For someone coming from the West Coast where
it's dry as a bone here and hot. That took
some adjustment. The first couple of days were stifling humidity.
(35:09):
But I got used to it and it got a
little a little easier in terms of the weather, and
I just had a wonderful time. It was with family,
celebrated for them birthday, so it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
It was. It went went by fast, because that's it's
a real vacation.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
I had to take it out a long time where
you're maybe sitting beachside in some tropical location. This is
always going back you like you Dan, you know, going
back to Wisconsin, going back to Iowa, or going somewhere
to see family.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
It's just go, go, go. There's not a lot of
time just to sit and relax. Was carried there. How
long was that cut? How long does it say, Sam,
well you intro Does it say fifty nine seconds? I
wasn't all right, like forty five? My sense hard on me.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
You're closer yet it did no, It did feel like
a minute and a half though, right like it felt
like that, like Trump, it's not about boring or not
about boring.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
No, no, I felt really long. I was confused because
I thought we were going somewhere else with the audio.
I know, but we could let you in on the
secret of that. Thank you.
Speaker 7 (36:12):
It's great to have you back. I love having it's
gone for a week. I was going to talk for
a little you know, play every year. It was like,
it was great and then the weather. I think the
weather is is a legit. Part of the conversation with
you guys said I agree.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
Like we got a tweet from a listener and said,
can we do like a side podcast on how much
more sweaty and the bad weather in Philadelphia was?
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Sam? They loved it. It was notable. It was notable.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
And you said it was your mom's seventy fifth, So
a happy birthday to your mom. I hope she had
a had a great time. But it was great time.
I hope she had a great time in Philadelphia, a
great job, whole family there. It is.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
I just I hope you were okay with us and
wear multiple shirts when you go to Philly, obviously, I'm Sam.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Yeah, absolute humidity is a problem.

It did like we were on the freeway, then we exited,
then we got back on, then we exited, stopped for gas,
and came back on. We're going to be back on
again tomorrow. We have beep Jerky to eat. Yeah, you
