App eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. Heisman Trophy winner Gino Toretta,
former University of Miami quarterback, two time national champion, he
joins us right now on the guest line.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
What's going on, Gino?
Speaker 4 (00:24):
What's going on to Gotts? How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm doing well, buddy. How you feeling this morning? I'm
sorry about the hurricanet great season, not the end that
you wanted, And I'm wondering how Gino Toretta, a former
UM great, is feeling this morning, this same afternoon.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Well, I'm doing Drive January, so I'm okay. Still still
a little tired. You know. It's it's not always easy
leaving stadiums, and especially one hard rock stadium when no
one leaves till the end of the game. So yeah,
a little disappointed. But we had a chance. You're saying,
(01:00):
there's a chance. We just we just couldn't get it done.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
And the last drive, Uh, Gina, what did you think
was going to happen?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
When Carson Beck got the ball, he had a chance
to write the storybook ending there. What did you think
was going to happen when he got the ball down six?
A chance to win the national championship.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I thought it was going to be a tough game.
But I know this. I was looking for number four
and number ten. That's that's what I was looking for.
Malachai Tony. I just I mean, you've you've seen him
enough being down here Stu Gods, It's like you can't
tackle the kid. It's like Barry Sanders esque, makes makes
great plays, is absolutely phenomenal as a as a player,
(01:38):
seems to have three sixty vision like our backup cameras
in our in our cars. You know, he's looking to
the right and somehow he cuts left and makes four
guys miss. So that's kind of what I was looking for,
and I was hoping he was going to make that,
uh make that play. But you know, you know, listen
credit to Indiana Mendoza is a had a great playoff
(02:01):
run and just a gutsy call on fourth and four
and you run quarterback draw, which I mean I thought
he Signetti was crazy. I was like, just kick the
field goal, go up by seven. But that's why, that's
why he's uh he is Signetti.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I guess, yes, Gino, you are a u M legend,
But was any part of you slightly I don't want
to say happy, but maybe some joy when somebody in
your Heisman fraternity like Fernando Mendoza is able to reach
the highest level in the sport, get the hell out
of here.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I mean, yeah, I mean, you know what I mean.
I'm rooting for Miami. I just he's such a great kid,
great family, and you know, obviously I wish him nothing
but the best and great performances. I just I just
didn't want it to come at the expense of my
Alma manor.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
You.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
You know, I've never fully understood a dry January. Just
tell you one year you sort of reset everything, and
then the rest of the year you're back to normal.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
I'm back to normal. I don't know what normal is
at this point in time, at fifty five. I just
I just know that I've been doing it for the
last My wife has been doing it probably for five years.
I've done it for the last few and.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
It's a little challenge.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I'm not gonna lie, you know, jumping on a private
jet and going to the Fiesta Bowl and not you know,
having cocktails and then sitting in Let's see, my seats
for a festival were pretty good. They were in bid
wells box, fully catered, fully boots and not partaking. So
that was tough. And then to be in a box
(03:38):
last night, fully catering, and that it was there's some
tough days in drive January.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Well, perhaps you want to choose another month. What do
you think I mean?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
I was, I was, I was down with that. I
was down with that, but my wife said, if you're
changed a month and you got to do two in
a row, and I wasn't doing that.
Speaker 7 (03:59):
You know, going into this game, I was saying that
Indiana would probably win a close game because the two
teams are close. But I would say, you know, if
we're going by coaching staffs, the Indiana staff has an
edge there. When you look at the entirety of the game,
you shouldn't blame Carson Beck for one interception. You shouldn't
blame any one individual, and even the field goal kicker.
(04:20):
But when you see the totality of it, were special
teams mistakes, A couple of mistakes here and there, some
of the things that Indiana did, even having those backshoulder throws,
his options on big throws. How would you assess the
um coaching performance in this game?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Well, I thought I thought it was I thought it
was good on both sides. I thought they were both
very conservative. I thought they neither coaching staff wanted to
make a mistake, you know that picked six like Oregon
through to Indiana or Ohio State through to US. I thought,
you know, conservative in nature. I thought Indiana did what
(04:56):
they wanted to do in the first half because Lucas
was out and our dbs were young, and they were
playing off and Mendoza was just firing rockets on the
sidelines and they were moving kind of up and down
the field. I thought Mendoza wasn't as sharp as he
was in the first couple of playoff games. It was
a little windy, and I'm gonna say as a Miami guy,
(05:17):
it was cold at the game, and I think and
I think, you know, his his accuracy wasn't pinpoint, but
because of the because of the weather and that. But
I thought that. I thought the play calling, the coaching
was was good. I think both teams made adjustments. I
literally just went back and kind of watched almost to halftime,
(05:40):
and there's a play in the first half where we
Miami punted and number six who blocked the punt. In
the second half, he almost comes Scott free and he
and he kind of reaches out and he's kind of
sloughing on the play, but he looked to the sidelines like, coach,
I think I can get one. And I looked and
(06:01):
I go, that's a player that told the coaches, let
me rush, let me go after one. And I would
say that play was really the difference in the game
when when he was able to get in and and
block the punt.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Uh Gino.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
When people say the U is back, being back means
winning national championships, it was a great run in a
great season. Did you walk away feeling like the U
is back? Were you proud of your football program walking
away from that game last night?
Speaker 8 (06:31):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Yeah, No, I'm proud of those kids. I mean, I
mean to get where they got in I would say
a short period of time. Now it's been twenty three
years since we've been there, but since Mario has been here,
it's been quick and now they had a great season.
It's just so tough nowadays. I mean they played. They're
playing an NFL season, you know, and I would say
(06:52):
they're playing it for free, but apparently they're getting getting
seven figure checks of cars house.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I mean, he's got a nicer house than you. Ge.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I'm not gonna lie in my neighborhood, but.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Is that where all the UM quarterbacks live?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
It's Testaverdi there.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I mean, I don't know. I don't know, but I
heard the rental numbers to gouts. I was gonna rent
something from you and rent my house out to him.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
You can't afford it. So you're proud. You're proud of
the you. You feel like they're back. They're not back,
They're not all the way back, because that means winning
a national championship and then winning another. But you feel
like Mario has because there were questions about Mario crystal
Ball and whether or not he should be the head
coach of the University of Miami, but he got it
done this year. And I was I was one that
(07:41):
criticized him. I criticized him often, but they got to
a national championship game when no one thought they would
get to a national championship game. And I have to
think that the U is back and they're not going anywhere.
G No, because they have the coach and they have
the money behind them.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Well, there's no question I think, listen, Mario has been
relentless and firing talent, and I think that, you know,
when you can put together a run like this, now,
all of a sudden, you're at the table playing for
a national championship. So you know, you can add that
as when he's making recruiting calls, Hey, we're there, We're close,
(08:16):
you know, and we're really close to win in a
national championship. The administration the university is one hundred percent
behind him. The resources are there, and you know, I mean,
I just tell people, listen. In January first, nineteen eighty eight,
I watched the nineteen eighty seven national championship team and
I was in Lake Tahoe snowskiing and Jim Kelly was
(08:39):
interviewed on the sidelines of the Orange Bowl Remami won
a national championship, and he said, why would you go
anywhere else? It's seventy five degrees and it's January first,
and I'm like, it's a pretty good recruiting pitch.
Speaker 8 (08:53):
You know.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I mean, to have that weather, you know, to be
on and to have a chance to win a national championship.
Obviously they had a chance at home this year. But
I don't think there's any better place to go and
you can be successful and you know, it's a great
place to be. So I think that, yeah, it's all
the kind of stars are aligned. But I don't think
(09:14):
he's I don't think he's taken any time off. And
to be honest with you, gin know.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
You mentioned stars and one of my biggest takeaway watching
that game and really just watching Miami this season, Malachi
Tony was a true freshman this season seventeen. When the
season started, if Malachi Tony is a three star recruit
in your rankings, get rid of those rankings because they
are garbage.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Well, right, I think Signetti could blow up that too,
didn't he have? He didn't have any five stars. He
had a couple of four stars, and pretty much the
majorities were three stars, but they were experienced guys and
average age of twenty three. But yeah, I think there's
a listen you can find good quality players and he's
(10:03):
been amazing. I didn't know what his star rating was.
I was like, man, you can't I think with Malachi,
I would just say with sides. All right, he's not
the biggest guy. Maybe he's not the fastest guy. I
think he's quick as heck. Maybe the recruiting guy's like,
all right, where does he play? Does he play quarterback?
Because when they let him throw the ball, he was
(10:24):
more than just a receiver throwing the ball. I mean
he was dropping dimes on the sideline. So it's like
almost like he could play anywhere. I think he's a
five star player, but maybe he was a three star
recruit because they couldn't figure out where he was actually
going to play in college. I don't know, but I
would agree if that guy needs to be re evaluated
(10:45):
and maybe fired from his scouting position.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Reminds me of Hill Well.
Speaker 7 (10:51):
I was going to say he's the best college football
player I remember watching regularly since, like Percy Harvin. Because
the system is ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
He's like, yeah, he played quarterback at a quintas. Like
when they do that reverse pass. How many receivers have
we watched?
Speaker 4 (11:07):
They just throw the ball to throw the ball because
they're supposed to throw the ball. It's like he's reading
the coverage. Oh yeah, I can get one in there,
and he's like throwing strikes and I'm like, Wow, this
kid's sharp. He'll he'll throw the ball he needs to,
He'll tuck it and run when he I mean like
that kind of stuff. That's that's just pure being a
football player and making great decisions. He's just he is.
(11:29):
Uh he's been fun to watch and uh, I seriously
like some of the cuts he makes.
Speaker 9 (11:34):
I'm like, how does he see that?
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Dude? I mean, like he's cutting across the field. It's
like five He's like playing five steps ahead in in chess.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
They should have put him at quarterback for that final drive.
I mean, the way you guys are talking about him, well.
Speaker 7 (11:49):
He is such a attractive piece. Like I think Miami
might already have their quarterback for next year settled, but
it's such an attractive piece you could you could use
that to sell other recruits to come to your school.
Because we've got presumably this guy for at least another
two years, and I don't care if you win a
national championship in those two years, You're going to have
a blast played with this dude.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Well, there's no question I mean not only throwing to him,
but and even I would say he was probably used
in the Ohio State game more of a as a decoy,
and I think Ohio State defense went into games thinking
we shut down Tony, We're shutting down Miami, and really
only I think he had four or five catch it.
It was. It was nothing huge, But I mean he
was a great blocker, just a tough, you know, all
(12:32):
around football player. But yeah, I think you know, if
you're a big white out like Jeremiah Spence, like, hell,
I want to go there because I know if my
slot guy's getting doubled, I'm getting seagull coverage on the outside,
I can I can go catch a hunter balls. So yeah,
I would agree.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
With you, Gino.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
If you had to pie chart the stadium last night,
percentage of that stadium filled with Indiana fans was what.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
You know. I was kind of shocked, segot I'm not
gonna lie. I thought it was going to because I
was told that the Arizona or the Atlanta game it
was ninety percent Indiana fans. I'm going to probably say
sixty forty Indiana some somewhere around there. I really with
the number of people, numbers where people were throwing out,
(13:16):
the tickets were selling for I just I thought there
was going to be you know a lot of Miami
people that you know, we're going to opt out and watch.
But I was. I was impressed that Miami fans were there.
They made it hard. I think Indiana fans likewise made
it hard at times on Miami. And it was it was.
(13:36):
It was a great It was a great game to watch.
It was a fun second half. I mean the first
half with whatever we had thirty or forty yards offense
wasn't exactly very fun. But they made some nice adjustments
to the second half.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Well, you're tired of the Indiana fans, right, Like enough?
Speaker 7 (13:53):
Right?
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I mean seriously, I mean, like, listen, you know, if
you didn't, I need to see a ticket stuff from
an Indiana fan who went to a game three twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Just a ticket stuff, right, Trent Green?
Speaker 4 (14:04):
You you love this? So Trent Green and the Hire
Buddies and Trent went to Indiana and I didn't realize
their last bowl game was like nineteen ninety one, our
junior years. They won the Copper Bowl in Arizona or
something like that. And I texted Trent, I go, I
assume you're here. I'm like just wishing you good luck.
(14:24):
You going? Hey, you know what you know. And so
there was a couple I played with the Indiana, one
of the alignemen on the East West Trine games. So
there's a few there. There are a few fans, and
there they were out in full force. I will tell
you that at the tailgates.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, but there aren't many fans that were fans of
this football program before twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Let's be honest.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
How many games of Trent GREENO do? I mean, seriously, they're.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
They're hoop fans there. There there's no question there were
who fans. I mean, it's kind of catchy. I was like,
you know when they start whoo, I'm like, what are
they saying? Oh? Who You're Okay? I got you? I gotcha.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I tell they put it on the pole was last night,
the first Indiana game Frank renattended since he graduated from Indiana,
where he was forced to go.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
To the game because he was playing.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh god, Gina, it's a wordy pole, Taylor Gin know,
we appreciate the time as as always. Man, We're sorry
about the uh about the us he said he saw
people driving with anger on the way.
Speaker 7 (15:26):
The whole city was angry.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Well, I mean you said it ain't putting up a notch,
you know what that is. It's like nobody drives you know,
friendly down here at Miami, and uh, you know when
I when I left, I didn't kind of you know,
I waited for kind of the trophy presentation and kind
of go out there. So there's obviously traffic, and I park,
as an experienced person leaving hard Rock, really close to
(15:50):
the exit, you know, and I back up. I have
to do like a four point turnaround, and I'm and
I'm like like trying to get in the line to
get out of the you know, get on the F
one track and speed out of there, right.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
And this guy like right next to me, like he's
like pulling up. He's like two inches next to like
behind the guy. I'm like, dude, really like he's like,
is it really going to make a difference if I'm
in front of you or behind you? I don't really care.
But he was like making damn sure I wasn't going
(16:25):
to get in front of him, And yeah, it was.
It was people angry driving out of there.
Speaker 7 (16:30):
To test your patience or your masculinity. I'm driving south, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
But that guy would have done that had the canes
one yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Yeah, you know what. You know what I say in Miami,
if if if the nicer car they think that they
have the right of way, it's not the actual right away.
It's the nicer car thinks they has the right away,
and their time means more than yours.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yes, now people down here buy cars they can't afford
so they can get right away. Yes, oh man, all right, Gena,
So it was a great season. We appreciate you being
there for us. We're sorry about the loss, but the
you is back and it seems like they're headed in
the right direction.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Thank you, buddy.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
All right, we'll take a quick time out. I am
told a special guest maybe calling it. We're gonna find
out together.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Next be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson
Company live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Little players only meeting there, Taylor.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Huh disaster they got blown out by the Mavericks, and
Jalen Brunson calls a player's only meeting about that.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
This is what happens when you think you're better than
the NBA Cup banner. And now I'm afraid we've got
an NBA Cup banner curse on our hands.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
Oh you are so right.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Thank you to Gino Toretta for joining us, the Bear,
Chris Filica and also Mike Olic Senior. I am told
that we have a friend on the line. I have
no idea who it is. We'll find out together, so guys,
just let him on here and hello, friend, how are you?
Speaker 10 (18:01):
I just wanted to say congratulations Steve Gotts with this
new program you got. It's Frank Calliando. Yeah, you may
not know my regular voice.
Speaker 11 (18:11):
This is this is this.
Speaker 10 (18:12):
Is actually me. I could hear the fear in your
just there was a sense of nothing that's going on.
Everybody looking around the room, like who could it possibly
if I had come on as John Madden and been like,
here's a.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Guy who's really looking forward to Stuve Gott's take something.
Speaker 9 (18:31):
You know, you think of all the things.
Speaker 8 (18:33):
That you might think on your own, and all the
things that you might not think on your own, and
the things that you.
Speaker 9 (18:39):
Might not think and you might not want.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
To say, those are the things that Stu Gotts thinks themselves.
Speaker 10 (18:48):
Or yeah, maybe I should do it as the new
voice of John Madden. Nicholas Cage. Here's the guy who
I believe we'll take over radio the way I'm checking over,
John Aden.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
I was the fear that you sensed was real because
I had no idea who it was, so well, thank.
Speaker 9 (19:13):
You, really easy one.
Speaker 10 (19:14):
It's really easy to sense fear from you because it's constant.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yes, I live in so I'm drenched in fear.
Speaker 12 (19:22):
Yes, you're drenched in fear.
Speaker 10 (19:24):
But you're the only guy who seemingly.
Speaker 9 (19:26):
Always turns it around.
Speaker 10 (19:28):
So it's that's the other amazing part. It's like, what
and here here is a bunch of falsehood.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
To Frank on stage dot com you can purchase tickets.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
He is touring and I looked that up very quickly.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Frank, So you know with shows coming up in Omaha, Naples,
and Hartford, they're coming up next, tell people about the tour,
and Frank, if I keep promoting it, I'm going to
ask you to congratulate me in different.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Voices if that's okay. But I'll promote the tour here
real quick.
Speaker 10 (19:59):
Yes, Yeah, I'm just I'm doing stand up all over
the place like you said, or wherever you said. I'm
Omaha this week, the Maples, Hartford, I got just outside
of Dallas, uh, the Choctaw Casino, Chalk Tribe Casino. Uh,
that's in Oklahoma. So but just a Franklin Stags dot
(20:21):
Com like you said, so what are you looking for here?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Was Well, the real one, the real show I want
to promote because I know it's important to you, is
the one in Brookfield. And so I want to promote
that one and I'll continue to promote it. But I
would like Jim Rome to congratulate me as well, if possible.
Speaker 13 (20:37):
How great is this Stu Gods taking over a great
time slot on FSR the FSR spots Sports Radio. Dude, incredible, fuenomenal.
It doesn't get any better than this. And right now
he's just in the middle of one of my pauses.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Now I know the one in Grant, Oklahoma means even
more to you, Frank calliando, and so I would like
Chris Berman perhaps to congratulate you.
Speaker 9 (21:11):
Say what you will, but nobody.
Speaker 10 (21:13):
It circles to dates the way Stu got judged for
a congratulatory call.
Speaker 9 (21:18):
And where where where he could? Oh, where to where?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Now listen, Grant, Oklahoma means a lot, but nothing, and
I mean nothing to Frank Frank Caliendo means more than
Salt Lake City, Utah. And because you're doing not one
but two nights in Salt Lake City. And so I'll
gladly promote that. If I don't know, Adam Schefter col
congratulate me.
Speaker 13 (21:45):
According my sources, at this particular time, it appears that
Stu Gotts and Company, which I believe is the show,
because nobody has actually told me what the name is.
Speaker 10 (21:55):
They don't have those sources.
Speaker 13 (21:57):
They just told me that he has a lot of friends.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
He's trying to get to work for free and.
Speaker 13 (22:02):
Will eventually have to pay them. But here's the point.
It's a great show, he's a great person, and I
am not being paid to say this yet, as.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
Usual, all of Adam's facts correct.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Yes, I'll exchange. I'll exchange you a Cincinnati promotion for
Chris Berman.
Speaker 10 (22:21):
We already did Chris Berman.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
We did Chris Burman.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
I want to hear it again. It's my favorite one.
Speaker 9 (22:28):
Back to the same world.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Okay, perfect, all right now, Cincinnati, by the way, April
twenty fourth, buy your tickets.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Frank on stage dot com.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Columbus, Ohio the most important place to Frank Caliendo. I
would gladly promote that in exchange for Robert de Niro.
Speaker 10 (22:45):
Congratulations, Hey, you know what, it's very good of you.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
That is very nice of you. That's where and uh, congratulations,
you're doing a very nice job so far. By the way,
Caliendo on stage, we'll be selling ad non Ks book.
He doesn't mean up not Brook I heard him yesterday.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Ah but Columbus, Ohio, Frank, I mean, what is there
a city in America that means more to you than Columbus, Ohio?
Speaker 10 (23:13):
Uh No, but there's uh, there's none that mean even
more to Jeff goldblaboo, even though I'm fro Pittsburgh.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
What what?
Speaker 13 (23:18):
What?
Speaker 9 (23:18):
Why?
Speaker 10 (23:19):
Why would we support Columbus Sea bus? Yes?
Speaker 13 (23:22):
Incredible, going back to the sea bus day, breck back
back to me once again.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
We forgot today.
Speaker 10 (23:28):
I was talking and here's a guy who's just going
from voice to voice.
Speaker 8 (23:32):
That's how much who loves Columbus.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
All gladly exchange you a des Moines for an Alpacino.
Speaker 9 (23:42):

or the Thursday, I don't remember, but either way, congratulations,
you got great to hear you you're as organized as ever.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
All right, final one Kansas City here, melkiper Jr. Kansas
City chiefs, go ahead, talking.
Speaker 10 (24:06):
About tremendous situation.
Speaker 14 (24:08):
Kansas City.
Speaker 10 (24:09):
You know, people think it's in Kansas, could.
Speaker 14 (24:11):
Be on the Missouri side. Tremendous job trying to figure
out which state the city is in.
Speaker 10 (24:16):
Hey, but here's the deal. You talk about tremendous situations. Uh,
you look at a guy like Stu Gotts. What's the guys,
what's the ceiling? What's the floor?
Speaker 11 (24:27):
The floor?
Speaker 14 (24:28):
He's reached and stayed there for quite a long time.
He's worked towards the ceiling at the end of the day.
Tremendous ring, wing span, incredible fast twitch muscle. For my money,
you're not gonna get anything better than Stu Gotts.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
I've seen some of.
Speaker 7 (24:42):
The best small hands though.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Frank on stage. Dot com is where you purchase tickets.
He is amazing, He's incredible, he's talented and this show
is fantastic.
Speaker 3 (24:53):

Speaker 8 (24:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (24:57):
Yeah, come on with with hockets that was.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
On the tell you, Oh it's a gym.
Speaker 10 (25:02):
It's an amazing and incredible and incredibly amazing show. Here

Speaker 2 (25:18):

Speaker 3 (25:24):

Speaker 10 (25:26):
Yeah, and I'll see it at the super Bowl. I'm
working that out right now.
Speaker 7 (25:29):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
I want to see you in Naples, though, I do.
I want to come out there with Oh yeah.
Speaker 13 (25:33):
I'll get you.
Speaker 9 (25:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (25:34):
I'm sure you'll reach out for free tickets. Sounds good.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
I will and Soul Taylor okay and company is also
asking for tickets.
Speaker 10 (25:43):
Awesome, guys.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
All right, thank you, Frank. We will talk to you soon.
Appreciate you calling it again, Frank on stage dot com.
If you want to purchase tickets, We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Frank. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Let's take some phone calls here if we have them
eight seven seven eighty nine on Fox. That's eight seven
seven eighty nine on and we'll get to your calls
here in just a second. The Knicks player's only meeting
makes me laugh. They're having a player's only meeting because
they were blown out by the Dallas Mavericks and Cooper Flag,
who I maintain is overrated.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
But really is that now? Is he, just so you know,
is a Hall of Fame NBA sideline reporter?
Speaker 7 (26:20):
I am not a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Well, you should be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
It seems a little bit ridiculous for the Knicks on
the heels of that loss at home to the Mavericks
where their fans were booing them out of the arena.
It seems ridiculous a that the fans were booing, and
be even more ridiculous that Jalen Brunson would feel the
need to call a player's only meeting.
Speaker 7 (26:38):
Well, I know you're a huge Knicks fan, so you
know that they also lost the game before that to
the Suns. And I'm sure you also know that they
lost the game before that to the Warriors. And I'm
sure you know that they lost the game before that
to the Sacramento Kings. What so, what your thing is? Yeah,
(27:02):
they should have had the players only meeting after the
King's lost because that's the most embarrassing loss. But to
be honest, like they are in a tough spot they are.
They were sort of hanging in there is that number
two seed for a while, then number three, and now
Boston seems to be sort of clinging to that number
two spot and the Knicks all of a sudden, you
look and they're only three games different from the eighth spot.
And there's a lot of people wondering if Karl Anthony
(27:25):
Towns could be relied upon for any period of time anymore,
because he is all over the place. It feels like
he's been released from responsibility for being the big numbers
guy just because his coach told them, hey, you have
to make the biggest sacrifice for us, So in his
mind that sort of frees him from blame because he's
got to take the sacrifice. And I think that's the
kind of stuff that they're talking about in these meetings
(27:46):
because they're ridiculously talented. They should be top two in
the East.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Small gripe here with Mike Brown. Draymond Green commits a
flagrant foul on Karl Anthony Town's Knicks. Draymond Green a
little beef there, and Mike Brown is hugging Draymond Green
after that game, like we're not two to nine. Our
last eleven games. Mike Brown, we fired Tom Thibodeau. You
to right the ship. Yes, why don't you write the ship, buddy?
Speaker 3 (28:11):
I like that. Yes.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
And Tom Thibodeau would never allow the players to have
a player's only meeting.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
He's in every almost He's in every meeting. Tom Thibodeau.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
It's at least bugged, absolutely, But he's right about that.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Like you brought in a coach.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
You thought it was the coaching upgrade, the coach that
you needed, and yet here you are still having players
only meetings because you're losing the Sacramento in Dallas.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
You know, Well, here's the thing you mentioned, Tom Thibodeau. Like,
Tom Thibodeau is not a player's coach, right, he's a
coach's coach, like he works those players. You go from
that and you're supposed to improve. You're supposed to crack
the whip and go from conference type conference conference championship
series right to the finals and win it. And you
bring in Mike Brown, who sort of sort of walks
(28:52):
the line between players coach and coaches coach, like he
wants to be your buddy, but he also wants to
be like a hardcore coach, and I think you might
lose some people that way. Like I think you might
sort of for a second let go of the rope
because you think things are okay because he's so friendly
and stuff like that. I'm not saying he needs to
be a jerk, but I think there's some of that
can go away in the regular season and maybe you
(29:13):
don't have You're not on it every single game in
the regular season, and so you know, maybe your playoff
position suffers and maybe your playoff path becomes more difficult.
So Mike Brown, I think needs to have a coaches
only meeting you can really talk about what they're doing,
because I think the players themselves, in terms of talent
and ability are good.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Let's go out to Calvin, who's in Indianapolis.
Speaker 12 (29:35):
Calvin, go ahead, Hey, this is the best radio show
there is and I'm missing all the time. I want
to make a comment even though I'm a Ravens fan
and I'm sad about losing Harball, but I think New
York Giants is going to be a good spot because
I'm waiting on Christopher Berman and say the gam Man
and also and Bronson. Hope nobody takes the business, but
(30:00):
he look like if Chuck he had a son, a
by racist son, it would be processed.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
I think Taylor's he's laughing in agreement with you.
Speaker 7 (30:10):
I also think it's funny. That's the second best Chris
Berman impression we've had on this segment.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
The only thing I do wonder with John Harbaugh is
if whether or not had he been able to prolong
the negotiations with the Giants until Monday, if.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
He would be the Buffalo Bill's head coach today.
Speaker 7 (30:24):
I think the dart Stataboo neighbors combo.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
But at the time of the teams that needed a
head coach at the time, that was the obvious choice
for John Harbor.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
He can't get the Baltimore job.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
He was fired from the Baltimore job, and the Giants,
as he pointed out in his press conference, that organization,
that family means something to a guy like John Harbaugh.
But I do wonder if he would have taken if
all of that would have went by the wayside, if
the Bill's job, if he knew the Bill's job was
gonna come.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
Think if your guy like John Harbaugh, who has obviously
a Super Bowl success, has a strong reputation, has been
under pressure to win with Lamar Jackson. I think he
looks at the giant situation and says I can build
that there. It's not immediate pressure to win at a
super Bowl level. You go to Buffalo, you get knocked
down in the first round, they're gonna be calling for
(31:12):
your head already. Yeah, so I think it's a calmer choice.
It's sort of job security, Like the Giants are giving
John Harbaugh at least five six years. I don't know
if you could say that if he's going to coach
Josh Allen and they start off in disappointing fashion.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
Live WHEAKDA sent three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
All right, let's go out to Doug who was in
Maryland today. Doug, go ahead, you're on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 15 (31:59):
Hey, congratulations on their show.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Guys, Hey, thank you, Doug, appreciate it.
Speaker 15 (32:03):
A uh big Raiders fan here, been a Raiders fan
for more than forty years, and I was a little disturbed.
I saw three different stories on three different websites yesterday
about all the possibilities of the Raiders maybe going to
get Lamar Jackson. He hasn't proven anything. Why would you
give up that pick to get Glendoza.
Speaker 10 (32:22):
Or something like that.
Speaker 15 (32:23):
I mean, it just seems crazy to me.
Speaker 12 (32:25):
Have you get guys hear anything about that?
Speaker 7 (32:28):
Yeah, I've seen it's I saw a report. I don't
know how legitimate it was, but I did see a
report about Lamar Jackson maybe being intrigued by the Raiders. Look,
if i'm the Raiders, especially at an organization like that,
that probably wants a splash ever since they moved to Vegas, Like,
I would take my chances on a held Lamar Jackson
thirty Yet I think he's yeah then with a number
(32:50):
one pick, even though we just saw what Fernando Mendoza did,
even transferring that to the NFL might take a few
years for him to be great. I think, you know,
these days, you can convince yourself you can build an
instant winner, especially with a talent like Lamar Jackson. So
I wouldn't be too disappointed if they made that move.
But if you're looking for the long term, yeah, Fernando
(33:10):
Mendoza feels like the right pack.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Lamar's twenty nine years old. Woul't you rather have what's
known as as opposed to the unknown? You know, Lamar
Jackson is great. He's great right now, and he's going
to be great for the next six or seven years.
You have no idea if Mendoza is going to be good.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Yeah, you don't. You just don't.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
So no team has built up more cachet for how
bad they've been in recent history than the Raiders, where
it's like the Raiders gave up the most sacks last year.
What part of that team and that franchise right now,
outside of what they did in his seventies and two
thousands with Rich Cannon, would make them an appealing team
that MVP like Lamar Jackson's like, I would consider that team.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
The running back the tight end no state tax I
think in he's from Papino Beach, Florida, so he's not
from there. But you're right, Tailor, it's a fair question.
What is attractive about the lasts Raider to Lamar Jackson, Vegas. Baby, Yeah,
is that it? It's Vegas? I mean, I mean, come on,
he can't just be Vegas. Yeah, but Vegas isn't Vegas.
(34:10):
I mean, you can gamble anywhere, now, you know.
Speaker 7 (34:12):
I wonder if the Raiders still have some PTSD from
picking JaMarcus Russell, like number one overall, right, that was
their pick, because I understand the hesitation for putting all
your eggs in a basket, and it's just like, all right,
here's this guy, Fernanda Mendoza. Maybe he's not that great
if he doesn't have all the pieces around him, et cetera.
But yeah, if it's me, I'm with the caller. I
(34:34):
think you go. I think you go with the young
talent and just build.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Let's go to Jack. Who's in Oregon today? Jack? Go ahead,
you're on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 11 (34:41):
Hey, still, congratulations on the news show. I love it
to listen to you with Dad, so sureat congrats on that.
I just want to know why they don't call it
cats interperence instead of pass interperence. Then, okay, and then
and then when are these defensive minded coaches going to
(35:03):
teach their safeties and corners, how to not cover a receiver.
I keep seeing these corners and safeties helping the other
team down the field, and it's just really annoying.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
Yeah, yeah, Jack, if you want to form a little committee,
I've got some more rules like that or changes like that.
Why do they call it a delay of game? What's
delaying the game is calling the penalty and stopping everything.
Speaker 14 (35:28):
Right all the way, yes, all the way.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
The two of you kindred spirits.
Speaker 11 (35:34):
Yes, So the Raiders did something in the eighties with
a quarterback on two Super Bowls, if anybody remembers that.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
So why do they call it a two minute warning
when there's a half an hour left in the game?
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Right, that's a good point. Yeah, it's just getting started.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
It's like when you layd at O'Hare Airport in Chicago,
you're really just starting your trip.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
From the runway to the gate is like longer than
a flight.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
Unbelievable since landing once and you look to the right
and there's another plane seemingly way off in the distance,
But no, you're actually both landing in the same airport.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
I am searching the internet for and why to try
to find connection points for.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Lamar Jackson at Las Vegas, and I can't. I can't
find one who desired, who wants to be a Raider
right now, Nobody.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
If there's ever a place for Lamar to go, maybe
comes down to the three to zho five. He comes home,
Lamar Jackson's homecoming.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah, but he's but he didn't say he's attracted by
coming home. He wants to go to Vegas.
Speaker 7 (36:33):
Lamar from TUA, who says, no, Oh god, jeez, I
do think it's a sexy organization. I think the Raiders
are a team that, uh, you know, somebody like Lamarka
convinced himself that I wanted to bring out of nowhere.
But I mean, you're not gonna go from the brink
of supposedly Super Bowls or you know, a lot of
playoff success to just rebuilding again.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Right Baltimore, You're so close there, like to see who
the coach is going to be and see if that
coach can help you get to the places you've never
been before, because John Harbaugh could it, and now he's
coaching the Giants, is he? What did you make of
Lebron not being voted an All Star starter for the
first time in his career?
Speaker 3 (37:09):
I believe right.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
Yeah, I don't really think that much of it. I mean,
the starters are pretty obvious there, I think. I don't
think it's any question. I think the coaches are going
to convince themselves that he should be a reserve, even
if it's not his last year. I think, you know,
there's some rumblings that next year is his last year
for certain. So I don't think too much of it.
He'll find his way to the All Star Game, and
if not, he'll find a way to make sure that
(37:30):
he didn't want to go anyway. Tell everybody he didn't
want to go anyway.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
What was surprising I saw a report by Tim Reynolds. Yeah,
two NBA players voted for Bronnie James to start in
the All Star stop.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
I hope he does.
Speaker 7 (37:42):
That's hilarious. You got to take those guys' votes away,
But that's hilarious.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
No, give him more votes, give him more power. Whoever
those two people were.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
I thought Bronnie James got a lot of vote, not
just like from those two guys. I think, aren't fans
like stuffing Bronni James's name? They want him in the
All Star Gate.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
It's funny, it is pretty funny. But I think I think.
I don't think Lebron ever takes a year off. I
think because he's as close to the end, they'll find
a way to get him in there. There's nobody else
like him, so yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
The sadness is starting to set in because we have
a we have three football games left.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
I don't know what p's and c's are gonna be reporting.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
So much NBA talk, I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
We'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
