Speaker 2 (00:21):
If you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I want to play some sound for Israel goodyerez from
one Stephen A. Smith, the greatest of all time, the
greatest to ever do this. You're debating that.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Really it should be debated, right, every goat debate should
have especially with Steve A.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Wait, you guys don't view him as the goat of
sports media.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
I mean, all time is a long time. Howard Cosell
is up there.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
So I viewed Stephen A. Smith as the goat of
sports media. But Stephen A. Smith himself would respect the
fact that we're even having this debate.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
You're right, I'm sorry, but Steven A. Smith, for me,
is the greatest to ever do this. I am the
commissioner of Sports Radio and he is on my all
time sports media team. How about that? But I want
to play some sound and get the reaction from one
Israel Goodi eras because we have spoken you and I
is he about Kawhi Leonard. What a polarizing figure he is,

(01:22):
And last night Steph Curry bounced him out of the playoffs.
Here is Steven A. Smith talking about Kawhi Leonard.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
He's supposed to be the face of the franchise.

Speaker 6 (01:30):
The last five years, the Clippers have missed the playoffs,
got bounced in the first round the next three years,
and now they've missed the playoffs again. So as far
as I'm concerned, if you're talking about how to view
his season individually, in terms of his numbers averaging nearly
twenty eight and six on the season, of course those
numbers are very, very impressive, But in the same breath,

(01:50):
the investment that has been made in him over the years.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Has not reached fruition.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
His ability to carry a team to something that isn't true.
He's gone home in the first round or they've missed
the playoffs the last five damn years, and it's solidified
the fact that he is not the person that you
would want.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
As the leader of your franchise.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
His individual skills are what they are, but in terms
of galvanizing the troops in terms of carrying a franchise.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
And all the responsibilities that come with it.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
That's not him, really, who was doing it in Toronto?

Speaker 7 (02:25):
Who was that We've gallied the troops in Toronto and
led them and won a championship with them over the
arguably greatest team of all time, although it was injured Warriors.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Like, that's one of the most ridiculous takes I've ever heard.

Speaker 8 (02:41):
If you look at the last.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Few years, if you just come onto a microphone and say,
I don't think Kawhi Leonard should be the leader of
your franchise because he's always hurt, I'm good with that.
You can there's nothing I can say about that. He
played two playoff games in twenty three. He played two
playoff games in twenty four, Okay, so it wasn't like
he was there for all of that first round even

(03:03):
And so yeah, we have multiple examples of if Kawhi
Leonard was the leader of your team, that he can
win you a championship. Frankly, he probably should have three,
if not for one big Ray Allen shot. So I
just feel like Kawhi Leonard is misunderstood because he likes
his privacy, likes to be quiet, and when it comes
to a no nonsense basketball player, listen, he leads the

(03:27):
league and no nonsense, Like there is absolutely zero nonsense
in that dude. Okay, So that's the type of player
you want. Like if Kawhi Leonard was on the Miami
Heat and you're gonna tell me he's gonna stay healthy.
What a perfect extension of the coach on the floor.
And that guy even if you make him, you tell
him to run, he's probably not gonna run. But still

(03:49):
he is a perfect extension of the coach out there.
And I just I just don't buy it's just recency biases.

Speaker 8 (03:55):
What that is?

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Taylor put it on the poll. Please, does Kawhi Leonard
lead the league and no non sense?

Speaker 9 (04:01):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (04:02):
A single nonsense, right buddy?

Speaker 7 (04:04):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:04):
And I understand what you're saying. I also understand kind
of what Steven A. Smith is saying. He's not consistent
enough in terms of playing where you want him to
lead your franchise in terms of just being available. But
and I think that's part of the frustration with Kawhi
Leonard is he we all see the greatness every single
time he takes the court. We could see just how

(04:24):
great that guy is as a basketball player and a competitor,
by the way, and he has won two NBA titles,
But I think there is a feeling amongst NBA fans
that if that guy were simply available, if he treated
his career slightly differently than he has, that's a guy
that should have four or five NBA championships. Is that fair?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Well, when you say treated his career the way that
he has, what do you mean by that?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Just you know, all the games off, not being ready
for certain moments, just stuff like whatever happened after he
won the first title in San Antonio.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
But that's all just it's actual injury issues that he's
dealing with. He's not just sitting out because maybe he'll
get hurt. He has He's had a knee condition that
he's had to navigate his entire career. That's why it
was so confusing when he was leaving the Spurs and
nobody could figure out exactly what the issue was. So,
you know, there are people, lesser players who might have

(05:17):
retired with that type of you know, knee situation, that
have enough money that you know, they never have to
worry about money again. Instead, he found a way to
win another championship, found a way to build get himself
on a Clippers team that might actually be legitimate. So
I don't think him missing time is a knock on
him on how he approaches his career. That is strictly
injury management.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
So Kawhi Leinner, for you, is a guy that you
would want to lead your basketball team, is what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
But only if I knew he could actually be healthy.
So I don't think many people even predicted he would
stay healthy this year. And you saw when he was
healthy how good these Clippers were, and so I think
that's the problem. I think that's where the uncertainty comes,
even with James Harden. When James Harden's asking out, it's
not necessarily because he doesn't believe that Kawhi Leonard and
he can lead a team. It's because you might not

(06:04):
believe Kawhi Leonard is going to be around, and especially
when you think of you know, the potential and it
obviously didn't happen this year, but any sort of punishment
he gets from the Aspiration deal and potentially you know,
circumventing the salary cap, all that stuff was in people's
minds too. But if you tell me next year, Hey,
if you tell Kawhi, hey, you felt pretty good this year,
you think you can keep that up for whatever it
is seventy of eighty two next year in the playoffs, absolutely,

(06:27):
I'm taking that guy to lead my team STU with
the Clippers.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
With the Clippers missing the playoffs, thanks to the Paul
George trade, Oklahoma City now has a pick in this
year's lottery. They currently have a seven point one percent
chance to move up in the top four. Is he
when you're when you're looking at this trade, I'm first
off shocked that this trade is still still seeing the

(06:53):
effects of it.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Right, benefits for Oklahoma City?

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Yes, right, when you when you fact during just that
a one for one trade of SGA for Paul George
would have been a win for OKC. Then you add
in the fact that one of the picks they got
back turned into Jalen Williams. Now they have an additional
lottery pick coming up. Could you make the argument this
is one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history, Yeah,

(07:17):
I think it was.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's already probably the most. You know, there are trades
where somebody clearly overpaid, like Mikhale Bridges and all the
first rounders for the Knicks. But that's, you know, out
of desperation. That's like a finishing piece, if you will,
for a team for a trade like this to be
two franchise type players, or at least one. At the time,

(07:40):
you didn't even know what Shaye was gonna be. So
when Shay turns out to be a better player than
Paul George, it's already lopsided, right because they obviously had
to give up so much more to get them, So
you throw in all those It's just it seems like
the trade that never ends.

Speaker 8 (07:57):
It's like you mentioned Taylor.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
So there's a seven point one percent chance for Okac
to move up into the lottery or to move up
into the top four in the lottery.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Stu.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
There's a scenario where the Thunder are the NBA champs
for back to back years and then the lottery plays out,
and who do they add to their team? Aj Debontsa, Yeah,
Darren Peterson, maybe Caleb Wilson from North Carolina, Cam Boozer
from from Duke. There's a chance that this Thunder team

(08:29):
is on the vert Well, it's we're already there that.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
This is already there. Yes, we're in the middle on
the verge.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Of a dynasty. They might just get more reinforcements added
to said Donasay.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
And it's not even necessarily just reinforcements, right, it's replacements
for when the other guys get expensive. Hey, chet Holdgan,
what have you done for me to you know, to
pay you max super max money. Okay, we're gonna stick
with cam Boozer.

Speaker 8 (08:51):
Maybe, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I think it just it gives them so many options
to remain good and you're not in salary cap hell,
because you know, they planned ahead and got a little
lucky with SGA.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Hopefully they used that pick on someone who plays the
game in an exciting fashion because they lead the league
in ZZZ plus. I mean, how about that, get someone
who could dunk as that's said. By the way, the
last time Kawhi Leonard played seventy plus games is he
twenty and sixty?

Speaker 8 (09:18):
I didn't think it was in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
I mean, but I think that's what Steve and A.
Steve and A is absolutely factoring that in that part
of it. In you don't want him leading your team
because he's never going to play seventy games, unlike SGA.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Right, listen, Toronto chose one year to man have that
guy lead that team got the ultimate prize, so name
namely another guy who did that on a one year
loan when and gave an entire country a championship, Like,
come on, like we get what's happened lately. We've always
known that his knee would be a problem, but it

(09:51):
was supposed to be a problem that year in Toronto.
They managed it. They you know, only had him play
a certain number of games whatever, sixty games that year championship.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
So yes, I mean he did win the Raptors a championship.
They kept going to the playoffs with Kyle Lowry who
you know, I think Teresa Max He told us was retiring,
but they kept getting there with DeRozan and Lowry and
Lowry and DeRozan and DeRozan and Lowry, and they kept
getting bounced out in the second round. And then in
comes Kawhi Leonard boom NBA title.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
If I was Kawhi Leonard, I'd be a little less
worried about that knee and more worried about Pablo Torre
sniffing around.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
It's crazy how nothing has come of that, Like it
feels like this is just one of those things where
they're just gonna let Kawhi's career end, and it's like
we never.

Speaker 8 (10:37):
Got to the bottom of it.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Oh well, yeah, put it on the pole, Taylor, what's
your Kawhi Leonard be more worried about his knee or
Pablo Torre? H And I can answer the question. I
love that, I love Pablo, and I say this respectfully,
but no one cares. Stu.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
They asked him about that yesterday after they lost. Yeah,
the headline says, Kawhi mom on Clipper's future. Also, he's
not stressing the NBA's aspiration probe.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
He's always mom and he's never stressing.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
I mean, now I've got Pablo Torre and like some Corduroys,
a white T shirt with like a little sweater over it,
just going to the floor, smacking the hardwood and just
standing right in front of Kawhi Leonard and see what happens.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I'm just saying, is he I have too many things
in my life to worry about that. That how Kawhi
gets his money, where he's getting it from is not
one of them. I mean, I like fans lit they
got enough stress in their own life. They don't care
about that stuff. Just give me a game, give me Kawhi,
give me a big game. Let me turn it on
and entertain me. That's all I'm saying. All Right, I
know who cares.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I'll tell you who cares the old school players who
are already mad that the new school players get all
this money to begin with, and now they get secret
money and we're supposed to be okay with it.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Where was that.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Secret money when I was playing in the eighties.

Speaker 8 (11:55):
Dang it.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Sean Merriman is go. I'm looking forward to this. Shawn
Merrimane was a menace when he played in the NFL,
an amazing athlete. I'm really looking forward to this. Tailor,
you had something.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah, we have a caller actually, who wants to talk
Kawhi Leonard?

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Oh really wow? No one calling in on Draymond or Jordan?
Who's the better defender? Huh? Eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox? That is eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
We'll take a call here. Let's go to Mark in Miami. Mark,
go ahead, you're on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (12:28):
What's up, fellows? Yeah, as far the pole questions, Jordan
by a landslide, it's not even close Lee, but he's
not on He's not nowhere near an MJ was the
best elite perimeter defender and I don't think there's a
close debate on that as far as Kawai goes. Guys,
I've never everybody talks about the Luca trade being the
worst trade. To me, this is my father worst trade.

(12:50):
When you look up all the assets the Clippers gave
up in that trade, you basically gave up an MVP
of the league. You set up a dynasty there in
Oklahoma City. The Clippers are still irrelevant and even though
they got the richest owner in all the sports and Bomber,
they probably got the nicest arena in all sports, and
they still don't move the needle. There's a redhead of
steps out in their own city and in as great

(13:10):
as Kwhi is, he he's the most odd superstar I
think maybe in the history of sports. He doesn't talk,
he had, he's mute, he has no brands. He's just
an all around great player. But nobody knows anything about him.
The only thing we know he has a bizarre laugh
and he has a new balance feel that we discovered
because he's in that commercial. But at least for the
for the mask. You could say they got Cooper Flag,

(13:31):
who to me, is gonna be a generational talent. So
when you look at all those factors, guys, to me,
the Clippers making that trade and now they have no
assets left and they're pretty much gonna reboot, and probably
Kawhi is gonna is gonna bolt. And so I'm just
hoping that a heat ten because I know Miami's deferate.
We haven't landed a whale. I think they're gonna make
a play for Kawhi. I really hope they don't. This

(13:53):
is an anomaly. This says this year has been anomaly.
He's not gonna stay healthy. He's gonna play probably about
thirty games next year, and then he will be dumb
enough to the real him in and give him a
big max deal to take him. So they better not
do it, guys, because I'm healing rumblings they're gonna be
that desperate to really go after him because of the
playing team that we become year after years. So I'm
just saying, for he Nason, please don't do it, because

(14:14):
I have a bad feeling guys that they're gonna be
so desperate they're gonna bite and take it.

Speaker 9 (14:18):
So thanks for the time.

Speaker 8 (14:19):
Get that man.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, great, call rack them. I mean Mark show.

Speaker 8 (14:26):
Mark in Miami. That's what we need back.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Yes, yes, Mark, I'm gonna give him find me on
social media. I'm gonna give you the hotline number so
you can just buzz in whenever you want the.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Hot You don't give anyone the hotline number. What do
you're gonna give it the Mark?

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Mark in Miami justned.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
He did make me.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
He did make me think about a timeline where that
trade doesn't happen and it's just Kawhi, Leonard and SGA
on the Clippers and.

Speaker 8 (14:50):
We all have to be serious about the Clippers.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Yeah, how about his Jordan's take though, huh.

Speaker 8 (14:54):
It was wrong?

Speaker 1 (14:56):
What I mean? He was a defensive Player of the
Year year, nine time first team All NBA Defense.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
What okay, we'll see Yeah, he's a great perimeter defender,
as a man said, so we'll see Draymond.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
He didn't say that he was great. He said he
was the greatest of all time.

Speaker 8 (15:14):
That's what he said. He said his market he said
it was the greatest perimeter defender. And I was like,
okay to Raymond does more do you.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Know the hotline number?

Speaker 9 (15:23):
I did that? I don't get right.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
That's why Taylor didn't give it to you. He gave
it to Mark.

Speaker 8 (15:28):
Okay, I mean you and Mark and Miami are going
to have a podcast.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
We'll get to Sean Merriman in just a second. Here,
Taylor put it on a pole. Should Aaron Judge be
smiling every time Mike Trout hits a home run?

Speaker 8 (15:54):
That's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Mike Trout hit another one and then cut to Aaron Judge,
And I thought then they were gonna cut to right
field and Shane Gillis was going to be performing the
way Aaron Judge was bent over laughing.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
You think one of the Yankees pitchers is gonna go
over to the opposite dug out and be like, listen,
if you guys have put went in high and tight
on Aaron Judge, we're not gonna get mat.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Also, this is like Mike Trout's like six home run
against the Yankees in four games. Yankees, maybe stop pitching
them maybe.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Well, you know what this means for Trout. It means
what it always means. He'll be hurt in fourteen days.
Inside of fourteen days, he will be on the sixty
day d L. I guarantee it. It's amazing. Sean Merriman
in just a second, tailor, what happened in the Yankee game?
What's going on there?

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Joe Dell just hit a grand Slam for the Angels.

Speaker 8 (16:45):
Rough Man, lots of emotions.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
We've lost a busy Sean Merriman is a former All
Pro linebacker Chargers great played eight years in the NFL,
three time Pro Bowler, and he joins us right now. Sean,
how you doing, man?

Speaker 9 (17:01):
Hey, what's up on? Man? How you doing?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
I'm doing well, buddy. So we're a week away from
the NFL Draft, and I'm wondering if you remember what
it is you were doing a week out of your
NFL draft, the draft that you were taking in. What
was it like the week out and then the week
leading up to the NFL draft?

Speaker 9 (17:19):
You know, like when the draft comes around, it's probably
the best time because all the work is done, right,
I mean, so soon as you leave college, you jump
right into your workouts, getting ready for combine, getting ready
for your interviews, finding the agent. I mean, it's just
it's NonStop. And then the week or two before the draft,
you're like, oh, I'm chilling right, all all my work
is done. Now my name just got to get called

(17:41):
and we're all good. So it's it's a bit of
like just a celebration from the last week or two
before the draft for the players.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
What was the first thing that Sean Merriman purchased once
he was drafted to the NFL.

Speaker 9 (17:55):
A new wagon, a G five hundred, and I sent
it off to West cost Remember West Coast Customs back
when it was big there. Yeah, man, I got that
thing all lights out out man TV's and everything else.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
So that was it.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
That was it, West Coast Customs. That was the MTV show, right.

Speaker 9 (18:12):
That was it?

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (18:13):
Yeah, yeah, Okay.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
You reread it or no, you're good with it.

Speaker 9 (18:19):
No, it was the best. I mean, you know, like
I grew up in preg Prince George County, Maryland. Man,
like you know, you started seeing shows on TV, like, Okay,
the first thing I'm gonna do when I get some money,
I am doing whatever's on this show, right, whatever's on
TV you started doing. I didn't give it. I didn't
give a damn what that thing looked like. I was like,
I'm getting my car done by West Coast Customs. Turns out, man,

(18:39):
they did a really.

Speaker 8 (18:39):
Good job, Sean Real.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
I don't think you were ever on any really bad teams,
were you?

Speaker 5 (18:46):
No?

Speaker 9 (18:46):
Not, not really, man. They kind of struggled. You know,
when I got to Buffalo my last couple of years,
I got I basically got waves and or you know,
in people's eyes, traded right, and they wasn't playing that well.
But I wasn't on that team. And then the following
year we actually started like five and zero, and then
we all got hurt and everything one another the bridge.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Okay, So the reason I asked that is because I'm
that We're down here in South Florida and the Dolphins
are going through some transitions. But they've got devon Ah
Chan there and the GM has says that he's off
the table, he's not available for trades. But if I'm
a Chan and I'm playing for a team with no expectations,
and I know they're gonna work me like crazy, am
I excited about that? Because I might get you know

(19:28):
stats and get my money down the road, or is
it just feel like a wasted year where they're just
kind of work overworking you.

Speaker 9 (19:34):
It's hard, man, And one of the hardest things to
do is to show up to work every day with
a good attitude knowing you got sucked, right, I mean
it is. It's tough because the losing attitudes and negativity
in the locker room. You know, the coaches don't know
if they're gonna get fired week to week or.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Year to year.

Speaker 9 (19:52):
It's just it's like a dark cloud. And so to
ask somebody, first of all, football is an emotional game,
is passionate. You got to have like a good attitude
to go out there and run your body into another
human band full speed. And so when you walk into
a negative situation, you're like, Okay, how do I do this?
How do I go put my body on the line
knowing that we're not gonna win?

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Sean, you played with Philip Rivers, and I'm wondering when
he announced that he was coming back to start a
couple of games this year, what was your reaction to that.

Speaker 9 (20:24):
To be honest, man, I wasn't shocked because I was
with phil. I was with field doing Antonio Gas's Hall
of Fame induction. I can so me and him, Drew
Brees Lt, you know, Gage were all kind of circled
up and talking. And you know Phil was talking in
the present at tension right like a lot of us,
you know, we're retired, Like okay, remember this. When this happened,
in this play, in this game, Phil had just the

(20:47):
same animation, the same passion and energy he talks with.
It just seemed like he was ready to go out
there and play. So I didn't pick up on the
conversation until it was announced. Then it made Then it
made sense.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
It feels like there's a lack of hype around this draft,
and I think it's because of the lack of quarterbacks
or the lack of high level quarterbacks in the draft.
How are you looking at this draft as a former
defensive guy.

Speaker 9 (21:11):
That's always the case, right, And with the NFL this,
and and I wouldn't even say just with the NFL,
but fans are general. A quarterback like that, that big name,
that keystone quarterback drives everything. It drives fans, it drives jerseys,
the drive TV revenue. It all starts with the quarterback.
So whenever it's not there, right. Whenever it's not there,

(21:33):
then everything starts to kind of dwindle down. I mean,
that's that's the same reason why the Super Bowl wasn't
talked about as much, right because they didn't have a
Pastor Maholmes. They didn't have a Joe Burrow, they didn't
have a Josh Allen, and so everything is driven by
the quarterback position. But there's some damn good players coming
out in this draft, man. And by the way, these

(21:54):
some of these guys are going to be future Hall
of Famers one day, I think, I mean, it's it's
just given. But man, I think there's a turn, there's
a tide happening right now where they got to start
highlighting some of these other guys. Everything can't be revolved
around the quarterback position.

Speaker 8 (22:09):
Sean.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Speaking of the Chargers, they got ex Miami head coach
Mike McDaniel down there as the offensive coordinator. I'm a
little over there, I shouldn't say down there. I'm kind
of excited to see it because I really like McDaniel
and I like the idea of what he can do
with Justin Herbert there. How much do you think Justin
Herbert still has in terms of before he hits his

(22:30):
ceiling to improve and how much do you think McDaniel
can help him out with that?

Speaker 9 (22:35):
So many and then let me tell you, Mike McDaniels
was very smart to do this. And you know, you
look around and he has some opportunities, some meetings. I
think he even declined to meeting or two to go
when he had an opportunity for a hit coaching job.
You don't want to take a head coaching job. There's
gonna get you fired in a year or two anyway, right, Like,
you just don't want to. And you got an opportunity

(22:55):
to go and coach a quarterback, put yourself, put your
put your name back in the hat after the next
season or two, and go to a team and a
position that you want this time, right, not that you
have to take because because the opportunity is there. So
I just think he was smart in a way did it.
And also like kudos to Jim hobback right because you're

(23:19):
letting the big personality come in there and kind of
drive things. And Jim Hobbaks are a really big personality too, man.
So I just think that they put winning first between
the two and and and set themselves out for the future.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
But Justin Herbert has to win now, right, Sean, like
he's run out of excuses. You have the head coach,
you have the offensive genius. You have to start winning
playoff games, right.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (23:43):
Of course that dark cloud is always going to be
over rhum until he gets deep in the playoffs. There minimum,
I'm not just saying win the ring. I'm talking about
like at least an AFC championship game. But you also
got to remember the two best tackles in football went
down last year for the season, that that interior that
they didn't have anybody at the center position. You're starting
running back and your number, your first round draft pick

(24:05):
all went down one for the season, the other one
for half the season. And so if you start looking
at that again, because we all and I'm guilty of
this too, because I played against some of the best
quarterbacks ever, we got to start taking a little bit
out of the quarterback's hands. Because if you just if
you want to sit back and say, you know what,
this team didn't play well because Justin Herbert well Man,

(24:28):
you lost three Pro bowlers, right, You lost three or
four Pro bowlers on one offense in one year. I mean,
that just doesn't happen. So what do you do, right,
what do you do as a quarterback? I mean he
got tax Justin Herbert literally got tax last year because
they couldn't block for him. So but yeah, I agree,
he has a dark cloud until he gets deep in
the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (24:48):
There's another quarterback.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
There's a whole locker room that has this weird dark
cloud over and that's in Philadelphia. You've got the AJ
Brown situation, which you know, their GM's saying he's a
part of the Eagles, but everybody seems to be expecting
him to be moved.

Speaker 8 (25:00):
What do you make of that?

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Because it doesn't seem like they're very often as teams
with this much dysfunction that still have success that they
should have won two super Bowls the last five years.

Speaker 9 (25:10):
I mean yeah, but again and while we you know
how the damper is really on them, we talk about
this dark cloud, and really because Jalen hurts, you know,
that's that's where it starts. And I'm not saying you
don't put fingers point fingers at AJ Brown. You don't
point fingers that you know other other positions or even coordinators.
But the dark cloud is really around Jalen Hurts and

(25:31):
whether he's an elite quarterback or not. Right, that's where
it starts at. Now you can kind of trickle down. Okay,
let's look at the AJ Brown situation. Is he is
he a problem in locker room where he's just you know,
there's animosity between him and Jalen Hurts. Can we keep
him here and risk running to the same problems again
next year? You can start looking at other things, but
the real question mark is on Jalen Hurts and is

(25:52):
he an elite quarterback or not?

Speaker 1 (25:54):
What do you think?

Speaker 9 (25:57):
I think he's above average, I think I don't think
he's lead. I think he's above average. But again, you know,
you give an elite quarterback that roster, they're gonna be right,
they're gonna win two or three Super Bowls because if
you look at both sides of ball and who they
have and what they have from the interior d lineman
and pass rushers to DBS to a running back. I mean,

(26:20):
you give an elite quarterback that roster and you got
you two or three super Bowls within a five year
period that that you know, you get Patrick Holmes, you
give Joe Barrow, you give any one of these, Josh Allen,
you give any one of these guys that roster, they
got a couple of Super Bowls within five years. So yeah,
I think he's above average. I don't think he's the league.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Who's the quarterback that Sean Merriman never sacked, never got
to that he wishes he had sacked.

Speaker 8 (26:44):
Oh man, did you actually miss it?

Speaker 1 (26:47):
I think, yeah, they all have one.

Speaker 9 (26:52):
Yeah, I got them all. I got all the ones
that lead that I wanted to get right.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
All right, So let me try this. Let me try
the which quarterback gave you the most delight when you
sacked it? Oh? Tom?

Speaker 9 (27:05):
I mean if you guys can't see me, but I'm
smiling right now.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
So yeah, is it because they were so hell bent
on protecting him at all costs because obviously he didn't
really move.

Speaker 9 (27:20):
Yeah, protecting him, but also too, man, just the competitive
nature of him. And you knew how bad he how
much he hated to lose, how much he hated to
get hit or to to you know, one of my
years in Buffalo, I mean we made him, we beat
him in Buffalo, he threw four interceptions. I mean that
was so gratifying, because he's so great. So you know
how much it killed him inside to not only lose

(27:41):
that game, but it also thro four big.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
I love it. Sean.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
We were around the water cooler earlier, and my prediction
was you were going to say Eli Manning just because
he had that whole moment where he spurned San Diego
on Draft night.

Speaker 9 (27:55):
No, I didn't have a problem with it. But I
did San Diego a favor, you know, definitely. I definitely
hooked the fans up. I could tell you one thing
after we played them. I had a bunch of free
drinks that night when I went out after the game.
So we're happy, all right.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
So Sean, we appreciate the time. I'm going to ask
you here. I'm gonna give you my Mount Rushmore of
Maryland Sports figures, okay, University of Maryland where you played.
I want your Mount Rushmore. And then we're gonna ask
Ai Colin cowhert Okay, So I will start. You want
to go first?

Speaker 9 (28:28):
You want to go ahead?

Speaker 1 (28:29):
All right? So I would go my Mount Rushmore of
University of Maryland sports figures. Len Bias, Lefty Drizzl, Scott
van pelt At, Dominique Dawes.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
How about that huh, okay, pretty good.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Okay, who do you got that's good?

Speaker 9 (28:48):
Yes, I'll agree with Limbia's number one. Yep, I'll go.
I'll go Randy White, good one. Yes, I'll go Randy White.
I'll go. Let's go. Uh uh. It's the Steve Francs,
the Wan Dixon on the.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Basketball so good, it's Stevie franchise.

Speaker 9 (29:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I will go there. Man, it's it's
tough because I'll go with Scott.

Speaker 8 (29:17):
You know that's a good one. He represents the school
pretty well.

Speaker 9 (29:23):
Yes, oh, man, I can go there. Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
So on the Fox Sports app there is not Colin Cowhard,
Ai Colin Coward. Who's better at his job than Colin.
It's remarkable, it's unbelievable, and Colin's very good at the job.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
But let's ask Ai Collin and see who he agrees with.

Speaker 11 (29:39):
Maryland's Mount Rushmore starts with Lynn Bias. He's the myth,
the talent, the what could have been that still hangs
over the whole place. Then I'm putting one Dixon up
there because he's the face of the modern Golden era.
E Jay Henderson because he owned college football awards season
and Katie O'Donnell because that field hockey resume is basically
video game numbers. That's the four star, power titles and legacy.

(30:03):
All right, quick, gut check. Are you building yours around
basketball greatness or the all sports dominance Maryland's had across
the board?

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (30:10):
No Boomer or sizing on there.

Speaker 8 (30:11):
I noticed Boomer was a totally fair call.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Even if we were doing a football only Marilyn.

Speaker 11 (30:17):
Rushmore, He's on it, no debate. The reason I left
him off my four is simple. I went with the
guys and gals who feel like the biggest campus legends,
not just the best pro resume coming out of college park.
Boomer's got the ACC title, the records, the National Football
League Most Valuable Player. He's a monster turp. If you're
swapping him in, who are you kicking out e J.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Henderson or one Dixon? It's good at Sean, I understand
you thought Taylor was asking you and he wasn't. You
didn't think that AI Colum can respond that quickly, but
he did, and so I understand the confusion. But the
way he says e J.

Speaker 9 (30:53):
Henderson is weird, right, Yeah, yeah, that was I mean,
I was at EJ.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
Too.

Speaker 9 (31:00):
I think. I mean you look, you can make a
case to swap out EJ Henderson and Randy White. I
mean you know DJ is a BUCkies winner and yeah, man,
I think, yeah, he's one of those guys. Are good.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
All right, Sorry for being ridiculous with you, but we
enjoyed this very much. John. I'd like to do it again.
I'd like to have you around here more often if
you're willing to. So thank you for doing this.

Speaker 9 (31:22):
Man, you gotta got thanks having me all.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Right, appreciate it. I didn't get an answer there that
scares me.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
My apologies is he especially when we're doing get in
two separate locations because I'm always traveling. I never stop,
is the Unfortunately for me and you. Taylor gauges everything
in terms of success by the amount of views we
get on a certain video. I do not, but I
am told that our Champions League NFL playoff take has

(32:43):
has made some waves on social media, especially in England.
I love this talent. Taylor tell us more yes, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
So you never really know what's gonna take off when
when you say it on the show. And I just
kind of put this clip out as just a feeler
to gauge the the audience, thinking a couple people are
gonna respond to it whatever. It's up to one hundred
and twenty three thousand views on Twitter and it seems
to have reached England and Stu. It's hit the perfect

(33:14):
It's hit the sports media sweet spot, as I.

Speaker 8 (33:17):
Like to call it Twitter.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Yes, because every angle coming from it hates the idea.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Yeah really, that's how you know it's a good one.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Yeah. Yes.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
So the people in England that found this are tweeting.
Of course, the Yanks. Of course, the Americans are copying
our ideas with soccer. The Americans are tweeting, this is
one of the worst ideas we've ever had.

Speaker 8 (33:43):
Can we recap the idea?

Speaker 4 (33:45):
The idea was the Champions League has double legged games
in their knockout rounds, so the NFL Playoffs adopts that
for their playoffs, and you play, you play a home
and away match in the NFL and then aggregate score.
Whoever wins moves on the one.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
The response that got me the most are the British
fans who are super cocky and be like, wow, look
at them wanting to do what we do all the time,
and it's like, oh, wait a second, we just want
more football. We're just borrowing your idea. It's not like
it's the greatest idea in the world. I mean, you guys,
and they used to do this. They don't do this anymore.
But putting more weight on road goals was kind of

(34:22):
the dumbest thing I'd ever heard. And so, yeah, we
want more football, but don't take too much. We're not
taking like your idea. It's just a second game.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Also, England, we're filling time here. I mean, that's what
we're doing. I mean, we're just filling time. I mean,
no one wants to turn take any rules from your sport,
that boring sport which no one scores, and use them
for our sports, which are exciting.

Speaker 8 (34:44):
Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
So a couple of the tweets of people responding American
sports trying to be more European while European sports are
trying to be more American. The world's truly gone mad.
Somebody else responded, spoken like someone that's never played the
game before. I don't need to drop my bona fides

(35:05):
on them, but I but I practiced a lot at
the University of North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Yeah, well done, a lot of practice. Yes.

Speaker 8 (35:13):
By the way, you're gonna be at our game this weekend.

Speaker 11 (35:15):
No, I.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Like someone who doesn't play the game anymore.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Which game is this? Softball or flagfoot?

Speaker 8 (35:22):
Flag foot? Flag football.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
But I'm also missing the softball game on Monday.

Speaker 8 (35:25):
Oh wow, I mean I have to show up. Oh wow,
we're probably gonna win. Then you've seen crush.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Tailor about the softball Yes, I am crushed. I was
considering getting a flight back because I'm basically in New
York the next two weekends, so I didn't want to
do the stugotch travel plan. Especially I just don't have
that in my budget of flying somewhere, flying back, and
then flying to said city again. So I'm just staying

(35:51):
there the entire time. But once I realized that I
was going to miss the softball game on Monday night,
I did look up Sunday, Hey how much would a
flight be? And then I all the price and I said,
you know what, I think I can miss one game.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Yeah, they're pretty.

Speaker 8 (36:05):
Isn't going to be too upset about it.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
I will say this about borrowing the idea from England,
we did pretty well with the office, right. That was
an idea that we stole from them, and I think
we won up them. So I feel like we could
possibly take this two game things and make it our own.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
And not only that is he with the World Cup
coming up next week, I promise you I am going
to have a segment dedicated to something that we could
take from soccer and implement it into America. Wow, just
need the fanfare.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
So pleasing Europe and you're pissing off the United States
of America. I'd rather be in Europe's good graces. I
gotta be honest.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
So this idea that I'm workshopping, I don't want any spoilers,
I told Ricardo earlier, and Ricardo's one word response was wow.

Speaker 5 (36:51):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
So that really he dried himself away from day baseball
just to give you a wow.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
It was that good.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
The idea that I'm going to pay for next week
is going to get universal praise, and I think if
we get in a commissioner's ear, it's going to get approved.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
I'm very intrigued by this because there's a few things
that soccer does, like v R, but that's just replay
like football already has that.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
I guess I'll have to wait. He said the bar
very very high for himself, is he That's.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
That's like universal praise, universal praise.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
That's that sports radio. You set a low bar and
then you somehow try to exceed it.

Speaker 8 (37:25):
Not the vi P baby.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Everyone, have a great night. We will talk to you tomorrow.
Taylor has an idea. I can't wait to hear it.
