was like, I can't believe they're talking about this on

Central Park about the Nicks being three games away. I
am savoring every single second of this. I felt like

I was going to faint in the first five minutes
of the game.

and that no one's sitting down. We're going back and forth,

only because I don't think I will be able to
handle this physically, emotionally, mentally. But what a win, man,

of like those incidents, this one felt rather pedestrian. If

I'm being honest, he's just a freaking gamer. What about
Mitchell Robinson out there playing digits on Webby and causing

I love these guys so much, and the joy that
they have brought all of us, bringing our families together,
bringing our friends together. I mean, like New York is
on fire right now. The city is on fire. It's
the greatest city in the world. I adore it with
all my heart and and it's just so amazing to
see the optimism, the hope, the happiness. I'm not a
Yankee fan, I'm not a Giants fan, I'm not a
Jets fan, I'm not a Rangers fan.

And to experience this with all these people is something
I will truly never forget. But it will all be
for naught if they can't get it done. Let's let's

That just what we're feeling and what we're going through

Josh hart Man, I think I didn't even mention Josh
hart Josh Harpt had more rebounds than Victor Woman Yama.
This guy is unbelievable. Fifteen rebounds and there was one
key play. I believe it was ninety nine to ninety five.
Josh gets the ball off a turnover or maybe you
know it was a rebound, and old Josh Hart goes
down the sport like a rocket and sometimes loses the ball,

sometimes gets stripped, sometimes gets blogged, sometimes misses, sometimes makes it.
He runs, there's about fifty seconds left and then he
slows down, he turns around and regroups, and then Jalen
hits that crazy like rainbow shot. Yeah, he just seems
so smart, you know. And the one thing that I
feel like we have to remember these guys are winners man.

They've won before. Josh Hart, Bickel Bridges, Jaylen Brunton. Of course,
they've won before on the biggest of stages. In fact,
their last national championship was in San Antonio.

away from being able to do that for the rest

the team. I listened to those stories and I wish

we've watched enough finals where you're like, one team feels
like a team of destiny and one team is just
kind of fighting for their lives. One team feels like
the storybook you know that we've seen, and we're in
that spot right now. But then I'm like, no, no, no, no, no,

you don't think that. Don't think that we're down. Oh
one fight, fight, guys, don't be over confident. We'll have
a whole summer and the rest of our lives to
puff our chest out. And so it's like this ponson, Like,
holy pap, we're not just participants. In ninety nine, we
were participants that we had no chance in hell, it
wasn't even close. And even in ninety four it felt
like they were the deeper, more complete team and they

and and here it's like we check off all the boxes.

very handsome, and I'm like, okay, yeah, yeah, let's just

Symmetry of what is this time like for you. Obviously
you're at the finals, but you're obviously the news gather
or the reporter guy, and so just wondering, you know,
with the draft coming up, free agency coming up, is
that what you essentially do there is just collect as
much information as possible.

Yeah, I mean these are always great networking things, like
is he like even back in the day when I
used to see you at finals in Miami, Like those finals,
these like it's just a showcase of all kinds of people,
whether it's agents, it's team execs, it's industry people, and
so that's always great. But this time of year, we're about,
you know, twenty days now from the NBA draft.

I have one eye on the NBA draft.

One eye on on trades, and one eye on you know,
on on on the.

On the finals.

And so it's kind of like you're you're balancing, you know,
two different seasons. One is my season being draft and
free agency in trades, and then the other being the
actual NBA season.

So it's fun.

It's uncovering the different angles that go on at the
NBA Finals and watching these these high level of competitive games,
you hope, so, uh, it'sactely a balance.

When you reported, because I'm certain it was you, when
you reported that Jalen Brunson was going to the Knicks,
did you ever, in your wildest imagination, wildest trains, because
Knicks fans did not, did you ever think it would
turn into this?

No, I don't think anyone could have expected this.
Speaker 8 (18:34):
I do think everyone expected the Knicks to give Jalen
Brunson the keys to the kingdom and.
Speaker 9 (18:40):
And basically make it his picture.

And you know, that was an opportunity that at that point,
I don't know how many organizations were letting Jalen Brusson
just be the guy and just give him the ball.

And I think that was a big vocal point.

Besides the money, you know, the four years, one hundred
and four million that he signed for. Beyond just that,
it was the fact that they were going to make
him the guy and the featured guy, the leader, the captain,
and his relationships ran deep with the organization, from Leon
Rose who was his agent at the time, to William
Westley who was a high level executive here, and then
right before the regency the next ended.

Up hiring his dad, Rick as a high level lead assistant.
And so the stars aligned, and I.
Speaker 8 (19:16):
Remember I broke that I believe a day, you know,
the morning of free agency, and at that point it
violated a bunch of rules. The NIX ended up getting.
I think they got doctor second round picked for an
early agreement with a player because there were so many
levels of connections and connectivity with this organization in Brunson,
and it was a match made in heaven and no

one could have expected this.

But you have to give Jillen Brunts all the credit.

He's taken the mantle and he's made a championship contending
situation out of it.
Speaker 7 (19:46):
I feel like they got to make a Brunts and
rule where if one of your parents is on the
staff of any team you can talk early, so curious,
then I want to ask a couple of like potential
free agent stuff, but I want to ask you this
first so I can know which one which order to
do this. When you're looking at this this offseason, you're
sort of triaging the main stories that are going to

come out. Is it Lebron top of your radar? Is
it Yanni's top of your radar? Is it somebody that
we don't know about top of your radar?
Speaker 8 (20:16):
Yeah, Yannis has been on the top of my radar
and everyone else in the NBA Landscapes radar for now
thirteen months. I mean, this whole situation started May five,
when Yannis for the first time told the Bucks he's
ready to go to another team. He's ready to look
(20:37):
at his options, which team he wants to go to,
And by the end of the summer in August, he
had made the decision that he wanted to play for
the New York Knicks. And so that's why that's what
led to the Bucks and Nicks engaging a conversation, and
that's what led to all this drama and all this
stuff that we saw play out of the course of
the season, and now I think everyone is at the
custover resolution.
Speaker 9 (20:58):
Not only did Jimmy has to make it clear that
there's gonna be a resolution before the NBA Draft.
Speaker 8 (21:03):
Finally for the Bucks as an organization, But you look
at everything that's transpired, The Bucks wanted to give this
another go. They gave this another chance, and Giannis has
told them for months now that he's ready to move on.
That stance, according to my sources, has not changed the
slightest bit, and so in the inevitability of a trade,
it obviously looms now on the horizon.
Speaker 9 (21:24):
So I think that's top of mind.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
But Lebron James, anytime he's on the board as a
free agent free agent, this isn't a suiturion.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
Where he's got an option.
Speaker 8 (21:32):
He's an outright free agent coming up in the next
couple weeks, and so his future, you know, all indications
are he's going to play another season in the NBA.
All indications are that the Lakers want him back, and
I think there's an expectation that he will.
Speaker 9 (21:47):
Have an interesting potentially being back. But what does that
look like.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
From a contractual perspective, What does that look like from
their conversations they're gonna have to have conversations after the
NBA Finals and to figure out what that partnership will
look like again, and if not, then where.

So I reported at the NBA trade deadline it was Miami, Minnesota,
Golden State, Miami, Minnesota, Golden State. Who am I leaving out?
I know I'm leaving one now. No, Boston definitely had interest.
Cleveland had interest, but at the deadline, I remember, and now.
Speaker 9 (24:20):
We can we can play the GameLine.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Yeah, deadline question. Let's see he's looking it up right now,
just so people.
Speaker 9 (24:26):
Yeah, I'm looking it up. So I said, yeah, he Wolves, Nicks, Warriors.
Speaker 8 (24:31):
Those were the jannest teams at the deadline, and then
there were a few other teams at the periphery, Lakers, Cleveland,
Boston that had interest. They discussed concepts, but nothing really
rose to the level of as those other teams.
Speaker 9 (24:44):
Knicks kind of trailed off.
Speaker 8 (24:46):
It was really at the end, it was Miami, it
was Minnesota, and it was Golden State. Golden State obviously
offering four first round picks, Miami offering a slew of
I reported Tyler hero Clill where other rotation players multiple
draft picks, multiple swaps, and then Minnesota made an offer
as well, including draft picks, and.
Speaker 9 (25:04):
They had players as well.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
You think a guy like Jaden mcgannals how valuable he
could be in a potential trade.
Speaker 9 (25:09):
So, and I reported it near the end of the season,
I did my Bucks piece.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
All those same teams you expect to be back in
the mix, And I think that's what the Bucks are
shifting through, is the level of interest from these teams.
But the big question, of course that's going to come
into play is which teams does Giannis want to give
that long term commitment to right because he's got one
year left on his deal, and if a team is
going to give up in the second Apron this collective
(25:36):
bargain airing era, the team is going to give up
three four five first round draft picks, two three rotation
high level players, swaps as well in the trade for Giannis.
You better believe and hope that he's going to be invested.
He then be motivated, he's going to be committed, and
he's going to want to be their long term. Otherwise
(25:56):
it just completely shrinks your window and really it really
depletes your ability to build a sustainable winner. And so
I think that's what Milwaukee's trying to figure out is
which teams is Giannis you know on the back channel,
which team is he willing to go to?
Speaker 9 (26:11):
And you know this has not been.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
A process that's been i think played out in the
public because that's just not how Yiannis has been throughout
the course of his career. I don't expect it'll get
to that point, Like I haven't heard it get to
that point, but I know that's these are all the
things that are playing out behind the scenes.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
So do you not think that a team or might
try to pull a Massiu Juri and get like a
Kawhi for one year try to win the championship because
of how much? Because like if you go back and
look at that trade for Kawhi, it was Demaro Jacob.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
Pearle in a first Sean pick, right, Like I think,
like let's say let's say Portland for example, Right, I'm
pretty sure that Portland would do a couple of players,
you know, starters and a first Shawn pick for Yannis
no matter the risk reward, right, you just you just.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
Go get Yannis.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
But the price is not going to be that this
goal around, like, it's not going to be a couple
of rotation players in a first round pick, and so
knowing that, I think the market has changed itself, right,
Like I.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
Think Ad is a great example.
Speaker 8 (27:12):
When Ad was up for trade in twenty nineteen, that summer,
he hands up with the Lakers. They got a haul.
The Pelicans did get all Lonzo Ball, brandon Ingram, Josh Hart.
I think they got a few first few swaps, Like
that's really what you're looking at if you're trading for galle.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
Ganis So you mentioned a couple of these teams earlier,
but I was curious of from what you've learned these
teams Houston, Denver, OKC, and Cleveland. Of those four, which
one do you think we're going to significantly look different
next year potentially or make a significant move.
Speaker 8 (27:48):
Denver jumps off just from the beginning, the way they
lost in that first round, the way they you know,
I think their roster and their salaries are set up,
and the fact that their owner, Josh Tronk, it was
very adamant. It's Nikola Jokic and everything else is on
the table.
Speaker 9 (28:04):
And so like, realistically, do I think they trade Jamal Murray?
Speaker 8 (28:07):
I would lean no, But then you think about God
that Cam Johnson, You think about Aaron Gordon. I think
that's who everyone around the league is keeping an eye on.
But I think Cleveland's gonna be opportunistic. We don't know
still what Oklahoma City is going to do, Sam Presty,
that organization is going to be very methodical, very diligent
about the process.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
I think you might have mentioned one other team in.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
That I mentioned Cleveland and Houston.
Speaker 9 (28:31):
Houston.
Speaker 8 (28:31):
I think, you know, when you look at that roster,
you think about men Thompson, you know that's really the
untouchable that they have had over the course of the
last year or two. So from there, like what can
you go get? What other star player is sensible for you?
And I don't think they have the answer quite yet.
And they could just run that team back because they
(28:51):
were down Fred van Vleet, they were down Steven Adams
most of the season pretty much the whole season injury,
and so not having those two key veterans, I think also,
you know, it gives you some reason to if you
want to roll it back, you feel like you have
a couple of big time bets that you can side
right in.

I'm going to ask this in a very delicate way
because your news is to get the news and then
report the news. But I am wondering because you are
a fan. I'm just wondering if you've ever received news
and you had to do like a double take because
you didn't believe it was true. And if so, was
Michale Bridges an example of that five verst r Lucas
probably up there.
Speaker 8 (29:29):
Yeah, I think Luca definitely takes that for me. But
I mean there was one that happened at the deadline
this year, ad getting trade of the Wizards that I
remember when I heard that, I was like, what so
Like I was stunned because and and and I think
like people in people in some of those circles around
(29:49):
a d I think they were stunned too, the fact
that the Wizards would make a play like that at
the time they did it, the price they got him
for obviously they got you know, Dallas did end up
with a few couple for Shawn Picks and other assets,
but that was really just to wash the money away,
right and give it to Washington and be able to
clean your books, and so the way it happened definitely
(30:09):
that that was probably the last time I was like wow,
like that's that's insane.
Speaker 9 (30:14):
But Luca, That's that's another strategy for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
I was like, wow when someone sent me shoums just
report the Michale Bridges going to the Knicks for five
first round picks.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
It's like, there's got to be a type.

Of that was like two right, and that's the right two.

Is that's the last thing for me from some of
these teams that you know, didn't make the playoffs but
still have potential to make moves. I think of teams
like Dallas. I think of teams like New Orleans or
you know, obviously you got the Grizzlies and even the
Bulls out there. When you're thinking about the potential of
hey maybe we're working away from tanking. Do you see
you hear any of these teams that you know, people
(30:48):
haven't really expected much from trying to make some big
moves this offseason.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, I think I think the
new three to two one lottery has made it to
where there's two things.
Speaker 9 (30:58):
Now there's two things the NBA has completely eliminated.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
One.
Speaker 8 (31:01):
You can't just outright want to lose games. You just
literally can't. You can't go into a seat and say
we are tanking because you don't want to be at
the bottom three because then you're in the relegation zone.
And you literally can't a FOURD to have your fan
base and your franchise go through complete losing on purpose
to be able to get a top pick because you're
not guaranteed that top pick at all. So that's eliminated.
(31:25):
And the other thing that's eliminated is this jocking for positioning.
So like what we've seen the last couple of years,
Utah has had top whatever six for eight protected pick,
Washington's had top eight six protected picks over the last
couple of years, and you jockey to get to like
top four, top bottom four, bottom five, so you make
sure you keep that pick.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
Well, you can't do that anymore, at.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Least guarantee that for yourself because it's flat and dots.
So even if you finish with the fifth, sixth worst record,
you could still end up back in the lottery and
then lose that pick.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
So I do think that going into it.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
So you think about a team like Sacramento or a Memphis,
you're gonna want to be competitive, and that's why I
look at a guy like John Moran. So if you're Memphis,
You're still trying to win. You still have John Moran
for multiple years left on his deal. Do you keep
him or do you trade him to a team like
Sacramento or another team that might also be in that
rebuilding type threshold. So this three two one lottery, I
think is gonna have a lot of unintended consequences moving forward,
(32:22):
and I think a lot of randomness with the lottery
as well.

Yeah, I mean these are always great networking things, like
is he like even back in the day when I
used to see you at finals in Miami, Like those finals,
these like it's just a showcase of all kinds of people,
whether it's agents, it's team execs, it's industry people, and
so that's always great. But this time of year, we're about,
you know, twenty days now from the NBA draft.

One eye on on trades, and one eye on you know,

And so it's kind of like you're you're balancing, you know,
two different seasons. One is my season being draft and
free agency in trades, and then the other being the
actual NBA season.

It's uncovering the different angles that go on at the
NBA Finals and watching these these high level of competitive games,
you hope, so, uh, it'sactely a balance.

When you reported, because I'm certain it was you, when
you reported that Jalen Brunson was going to the Knicks,
did you ever, in your wildest imagination, wildest trains, because
Knicks fans did not, did you ever think it would
turn into this?

No, I don't think anyone could have expected this.

I do think everyone expected the Knicks to give Jalen
Brunson the keys to the kingdom and.

And basically make it his picture.

And you know, that was an opportunity that at that point,
I don't know how many organizations were letting Jalen Brusson
just be the guy and just give him the ball.

And I think that was a big vocal point.

Besides the money, you know, the four years, one hundred
and four million that he signed for. Beyond just that,
it was the fact that they were going to make
him the guy and the featured guy, the leader, the captain,
and his relationships ran deep with the organization, from Leon
Rose who was his agent at the time, to William
Westley who was a high level executive here, and then
right before the regency the next ended.

Up hiring his dad, Rick as a high level lead assistant.
And so the stars aligned, and I.

Remember I broke that I believe a day, you know,
the morning of free agency, and at that point it
violated a bunch of rules. The NIX ended up getting.
I think they got doctor second round picked for an
early agreement with a player because there were so many
levels of connections and connectivity with this organization in Brunson,
and it was a match made in heaven and no

one could have expected this.

But you have to give Jillen Brunts all the credit.

He's taken the mantle and he's made a championship contending
situation out of it.

I feel like they got to make a Brunts and
rule where if one of your parents is on the
staff of any team you can talk early, so curious,
then I want to ask a couple of like potential
free agent stuff, but I want to ask you this
first so I can know which one which order to
do this. When you're looking at this this offseason, you're
sort of triaging the main stories that are going to

come out. Is it Lebron top of your radar? Is
it Yanni's top of your radar? Is it somebody that
we don't know about top of your radar?

Yeah, Yannis has been on the top of my radar
and everyone else in the NBA Landscapes radar for now
thirteen months. I mean, this whole situation started May five,
when Yannis for the first time told the Bucks he's
ready to go to another team. He's ready to look
(20:37):
at his options, which team he wants to go to,
And by the end of the summer in August, he
had made the decision that he wanted to play for
the New York Knicks. And so that's why that's what
led to the Bucks and Nicks engaging a conversation, and
that's what led to all this drama and all this
stuff that we saw play out of the course of
the season, and now I think everyone is at the
custover resolution.
Speaker 9 (20:58):
Not only did Jimmy has to make it clear that
there's gonna be a resolution before the NBA Draft.
Speaker 8 (21:03):
Finally for the Bucks as an organization, But you look
at everything that's transpired, The Bucks wanted to give this
another go. They gave this another chance, and Giannis has
told them for months now that he's ready to move on.
That stance, according to my sources, has not changed the
slightest bit, and so in the inevitability of a trade,
it obviously looms now on the horizon.
Speaker 9 (21:24):
So I think that's top of mind.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
But Lebron James, anytime he's on the board as a
free agent free agent, this isn't a suiturion.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
Where he's got an option.
Speaker 8 (21:32):
He's an outright free agent coming up in the next
couple weeks, and so his future, you know, all indications
are he's going to play another season in the NBA.
All indications are that the Lakers want him back, and
I think there's an expectation that he will.
Speaker 9 (21:47):
Have an interesting potentially being back. But what does that
look like.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
From a contractual perspective, What does that look like from
their conversations they're gonna have to have conversations after the
NBA Finals and to figure out what that partnership will
look like again, and if not, then where.

So I think those are two definitely top of mine.
And there's gonna be a bunch of other situations. Houston
losing the first sround, what do they do this offseason?
Boston loses in the first round after three to one lead,
what do they do with guy that Jaylen Brown, Derek White,
other players that are up for big money extensions either
this summer summers to come, you know, New Orleans, what
do they do with several players on their roster, whether

it's the Zion Winson or Trey Murphy of Herb Jones.

Then there's a bunch of teams like Miami, Golden State,
Minnesota that have to make moves, that want to make
moves to better their team. So I tried to rattle

it's just like I'm not putting any order of things,
like if it happens, it happens, and I'm going to

Yeah, deadline question. Let's see he's looking it up right now,

Those were the jannest teams at the deadline, and then
there were a few other teams at the periphery, Lakers, Cleveland,
Boston that had interest. They discussed concepts, but nothing really
rose to the level of as those other teams.

Knicks kind of trailed off.

It was really at the end, it was Miami, it
was Minnesota, and it was Golden State. Golden State obviously
offering four first round picks, Miami offering a slew of

draft picks, multiple swaps, and then Minnesota made an offer
as well, including draft picks, and.

They had players as well.

You think a guy like Jaden mcgannals how valuable he
could be in a potential trade.

So, and I reported it near the end of the season,
I did my Bucks piece.

All those same teams you expect to be back in
the mix, And I think that's what the Bucks are
shifting through, is the level of interest from these teams.
But the big question, of course that's going to come
into play is which teams does Giannis want to give
that long term commitment to right because he's got one
year left on his deal, and if a team is
going to give up in the second Apron this collective

bargain airing era, the team is going to give up
three four five first round draft picks, two three rotation
high level players, swaps as well in the trade for Giannis.
You better believe and hope that he's going to be invested.
He then be motivated, he's going to be committed, and
he's going to want to be their long term. Otherwise
(25:56):
it just completely shrinks your window and really it really
depletes your ability to build a sustainable winner. And so
I think that's what Milwaukee's trying to figure out is
which teams is Giannis you know on the back channel,
which team is he willing to go to?
Speaker 9 (26:11):
And you know this has not been.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
A process that's been i think played out in the
public because that's just not how Yiannis has been throughout
the course of his career. I don't expect it'll get
to that point, Like I haven't heard it get to
that point, but I know that's these are all the
things that are playing out behind the scenes.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
So do you not think that a team or might
try to pull a Massiu Juri and get like a
Kawhi for one year try to win the championship because
of how much? Because like if you go back and
look at that trade for Kawhi, it was Demaro Jacob.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
Pearle in a first Sean pick, right, Like I think,
like let's say let's say Portland for example, Right, I'm
pretty sure that Portland would do a couple of players,
you know, starters and a first Shawn pick for Yannis
no matter the risk reward, right, you just you just.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
Go get Yannis.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
But the price is not going to be that this
goal around, like, it's not going to be a couple
of rotation players in a first round pick, and so
knowing that, I think the market has changed itself, right,
Like I.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
Think Ad is a great example.
Speaker 8 (27:12):
When Ad was up for trade in twenty nineteen, that summer,
he hands up with the Lakers. They got a haul.
The Pelicans did get all Lonzo Ball, brandon Ingram, Josh Hart.
I think they got a few first few swaps, Like
that's really what you're looking at if you're trading for galle.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
Ganis So you mentioned a couple of these teams earlier,
but I was curious of from what you've learned these
teams Houston, Denver, OKC, and Cleveland. Of those four, which
one do you think we're going to significantly look different
next year potentially or make a significant move.
Speaker 8 (27:48):
Denver jumps off just from the beginning, the way they
lost in that first round, the way they you know,
I think their roster and their salaries are set up,
and the fact that their owner, Josh Tronk, it was
very adamant. It's Nikola Jokic and everything else is on
the table.
Speaker 9 (28:04):
And so like, realistically, do I think they trade Jamal Murray?
Speaker 8 (28:07):
I would lean no, But then you think about God
that Cam Johnson, You think about Aaron Gordon. I think
that's who everyone around the league is keeping an eye on.
But I think Cleveland's gonna be opportunistic. We don't know
still what Oklahoma City is going to do, Sam Presty,
that organization is going to be very methodical, very diligent
about the process.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
I think you might have mentioned one other team in.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
That I mentioned Cleveland and Houston.
Speaker 9 (28:31):
Houston.
Speaker 8 (28:31):
I think, you know, when you look at that roster,
you think about men Thompson, you know that's really the
untouchable that they have had over the course of the
last year or two. So from there, like what can
you go get? What other star player is sensible for you?
And I don't think they have the answer quite yet.
And they could just run that team back because they
(28:51):
were down Fred van Vleet, they were down Steven Adams
most of the season pretty much the whole season injury,
and so not having those two key veterans, I think also,
you know, it gives you some reason to if you
want to roll it back, you feel like you have
a couple of big time bets that you can side
right in.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I'm going to ask this in a very delicate way
because your news is to get the news and then
report the news. But I am wondering because you are
a fan. I'm just wondering if you've ever received news
and you had to do like a double take because
you didn't believe it was true. And if so, was
Michale Bridges an example of that five verst r Lucas
probably up there.
Speaker 8 (29:29):
Yeah, I think Luca definitely takes that for me. But
I mean there was one that happened at the deadline
this year, ad getting trade of the Wizards that I
remember when I heard that, I was like, what so
Like I was stunned because and and and I think
like people in people in some of those circles around
(29:49):
a d I think they were stunned too, the fact
that the Wizards would make a play like that at
the time they did it, the price they got him
for obviously they got you know, Dallas did end up
with a few couple for Shawn Picks and other assets,
but that was really just to wash the money away,
right and give it to Washington and be able to
clean your books, and so the way it happened definitely
(30:09):
that that was probably the last time I was like wow,
like that's that's insane.
Speaker 9 (30:14):
But Luca, That's that's another strategy for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
I was like, wow when someone sent me shoums just
report the Michale Bridges going to the Knicks for five
first round picks.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
It's like, there's got to be a type.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Of that was like two right, and that's the right two.
I hope it is. Go ahead?
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Is that's the last thing for me from some of
these teams that you know, didn't make the playoffs but
still have potential to make moves. I think of teams
like Dallas. I think of teams like New Orleans or
you know, obviously you got the Grizzlies and even the
Bulls out there. When you're thinking about the potential of
hey maybe we're working away from tanking. Do you see
you hear any of these teams that you know, people
(30:48):
haven't really expected much from trying to make some big
moves this offseason.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, I think I think the
new three to two one lottery has made it to
where there's two things.
Speaker 9 (30:58):
Now there's two things the NBA has completely eliminated.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
One.
Speaker 8 (31:01):
You can't just outright want to lose games. You just
literally can't. You can't go into a seat and say
we are tanking because you don't want to be at
the bottom three because then you're in the relegation zone.
And you literally can't a FOURD to have your fan
base and your franchise go through complete losing on purpose
to be able to get a top pick because you're
not guaranteed that top pick at all. So that's eliminated.
(31:25):
And the other thing that's eliminated is this jocking for positioning.
So like what we've seen the last couple of years,
Utah has had top whatever six for eight protected pick,
Washington's had top eight six protected picks over the last
couple of years, and you jockey to get to like
top four, top bottom four, bottom five, so you make
sure you keep that pick.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
Well, you can't do that anymore, at.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Least guarantee that for yourself because it's flat and dots.
So even if you finish with the fifth, sixth worst record,
you could still end up back in the lottery and
then lose that pick.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
So I do think that going into it.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
So you think about a team like Sacramento or a Memphis,
you're gonna want to be competitive, and that's why I
look at a guy like John Moran. So if you're Memphis,
You're still trying to win. You still have John Moran
for multiple years left on his deal. Do you keep
him or do you trade him to a team like
Sacramento or another team that might also be in that
rebuilding type threshold. So this three two one lottery, I
think is gonna have a lot of unintended consequences moving forward,
(32:22):
and I think a lot of randomness with the lottery
as well.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
All Right, a couple of quick ones. We'll get you
