This is the best of Stu Gotson Company Live on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
We are headed out to San Francisco this weekend, all
of us. Israel Goodieiras at studio with Me Taylor in
the VIP room, Mikeye on Zoom eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox's the telephone number. Eric Mangini, former Jets
head coach. If you remember about a week ago, I
said when I was driving in Huh, what is Eric

(00:41):
Mangini up to? We're gonna find out today. Together we
are headed out to the super Bowl. I'm excited to
experience the Super Bowl on Radio Row with this crew.
I am shocked to hear that Israel Goodieiras has never
been to Radio You've been to US Super Bowl. You've
never been to Radio Row.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, And there have been so many in my lifetime,
even as a professional, so many Super Bowls in Miami,
and I just avoid them.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
I avoid Radio Row.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I avoid the Super Bowls I had to go to
one as a columnist.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
I rode off of the who was it?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
The Saints quarterback Drew Brees? Remember which super Bow was
actually out of the Drew Brees Super Bowl? And I
think with the who did the halftime actors?

Speaker 5 (01:28):
That one.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I can remember it because it was terrible and I
didn't care to see it. But I've never been and
I'm excited about it. I'm a little nervous about the
Super Bowl in general. I feel like it's going to
be awful, and if it's my first radio row, they'll
probably some people blaming me for it. Probably just me, right,
but I have a feeling that these quarterbacks aren't going
to play very well and that I already see one
of them, Drake Mays, on the injury report, and I'm

(01:49):
just like, oh, come.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
On, yes, we'll get to that in a second. Mikey,
I have never seen you nod your head so quickly
in agreement.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
That is.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
He's going to be the guy that ruins radio row
with Super Bowl a week For anyone, I'll blame.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Him, stay hoped. I don't think anyone's more excited than Taylor.
I really do.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Taylor, are you excited for this, my guess is like
this is Taylor's dream. Taylor wants to be in this industry.
He works hard, He's a great kid. He's thirty one
years old and I keep calling him a kid, but
he's a great kid. And he wants this, and he
wants it in the worst way. And really what he
wants to do is just meet people, right. He wants
to meet people, exchange business cards, you know, because this

(02:35):
is a time of year where the media gets together
and they all trot out their resumes and tell everyone
what it is they're doing, and they want to compare
if their job is better than everyone else's. But Taylor,
I imagine no one is more no one is more
excited in our crew for Radio Row than you.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
Is that fair?

Speaker 6 (02:52):
That is fair?

Speaker 7 (02:53):
One.

Speaker 8 (02:54):
I'm not looking at it as we're going to Radio Row.
I'm looking at it as I'm getting a front row
seat to a live show of mad Dog Chris mad Dog.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
You don't even want to watch du Gotts.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
He's on at the same time as us.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
We're gonna have to figure that one out.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
So can I tell you what my lasting imagery, at
least mentally of Radio Row is. It is so down
in Miami. Back in the day, there used to be
I think three thriving sports radio stations in the AM,
and on one of them there was gentleman by the

(03:31):
name of Kevin.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Rogers Krog as the kids call him.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
And there was this sound. I forget did you guys
play this first? Or was this the radio station that
he works for? Just running him live? And then somebody
clipped it. It is the saddest sound I've ever heard
professionally from a colleague.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
And it made me think that I don't have the
coolest job in the world.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
That made me think I have one of the worst
jobs of the world.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Kevin Rodgers is is a person that I met in
Jacksonville at the Super Bowl. We had just started locally
seven ninety the ticket down here in Miami.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
I started that station.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I was the GM I co hosted the afternoon show
with Dan. It was a terrible plan. So was a
Jacksonville super Bowl. By the way, Yeah, that was a
terrible plan. But Kevin Rogers, and this is what radio
row in Super Bowl week is all about. He flagged
me down and he was relentless, okay, because he wanted
to move from where he was in Kansas City down

(04:29):
to South Florida and South Beach in Miami.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
He was a young man at the.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Time, a very polished broadcaster, a great broadcaster, and I
ended up hiring Kevin Rodgers to do updates in the
afternoons for my show with Dan. Yes, we then went out.
I had to add an extra adjective there. We then
went out to a super Bowl. I'm trying to think

(04:53):
where it was. I don't think it was down here
in Miami, is he? But we do have next super
Bowl because I can figure out which one it probably was.
But we do have the sound that you're talking about.
Because this is what Radio Row and super Bowl Week
is all about. Let's first go to the sound. Guys,
where was it, Taylor? Just come to them, I can
say it, Bud.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yes, all right.

Speaker 8 (05:15):
The way to set this up his show was on
in the evenings. Yeah, so by the time he's going
on from Radio Row, Yes, it's an empty radio row.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yes, so it's an empty radio row because Radio Row
is really a six eight to seven p deal. And
when the afternoon shows are over, When the afternoon shows
are over, okay, everyone goes and parties their ass off. Okay,
that's what and then they come back the next day
and they're hungover, and you're Sander, Okay, I'm looking forward
to And so here is Kevin Rodgers, the rare guy

(05:47):
to host an evening show on Radio Row. After everyone
is cleared out, Here is k Roger trying to get
the attention of Lincoln Kennedy.

Speaker 9 (05:57):
Lincoln Kennedy, what's up, man, Yeah, I'm working.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Where you go?

Speaker 9 (06:02):
You want a bet Chet party night? You're on FHM night.
All right, I'll see you later.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
It's so, yes, this is one of the two. The
next one is the one that's most memorable to me.
But it just the Lincoln Kennedy is there. Yes, he's
clearly Kay Rodger the only person there doing a show. Yes,
And Lincoln Kennedy still denies him because he says, you
shouldn't be here this way.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yes, listen closely, audience, because you can hear faintly Lincoln
Kennedy telling Kevin Rogers everyone has left the building.

Speaker 9 (06:36):
Go again, Lincoln Kennedy, what's up man? Yeah, I'm working.
Where do you go? You want to bet Jet party night?
You're on FHM night. All right, I'll see you later.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
I'm working here.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yes, So If that's not sad enough, Here is Kevin
Rogers still at Radio Row, not at the FAHM party.
This is the next day. He hasn't left Radio Row.
He never went to the FHM party. He just stayed
at his booth on Radio Row. And here is him
with a bloody tongue.

Speaker 9 (07:09):
What else we got? Oh my god, Ray Lewis is here?
Can we get Ray Lewis in the show before my
tongue falls off? Ray freaking Lewis in the house. Wow, Hey, Ray,
got a couple of minutes. Ray, Let's see whatever Ray
Lewis walks in and my tongue is bleeding. Wow.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
That that right there, Stu guys, which was almost twenty
years ago. I want to say, maybe it was twenty
years ago.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Is my entire visual interpretation, mental interpretation of what Radio
Row is like. And I'm thankful we do with three
to five Eastern, which is going to be noon.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
To two over there, if you say so.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I was on my toes and I'm not going to
experience the k Rots thing. But man, I'm just gonna
have like this sickening empty feeling if I ever see
somebody arcing that, or if I see you.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Or anybody else yell a name and then is not heard.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
I'll do it all week. I will. Yes.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Kevin Rodgers quit after that that show.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
His tongue was so bad.

Speaker 8 (08:17):
He said that was like the first ten minutes, Yes,
that show opening, and then I believe he said. He
called Alison after. I was like, I can't keep hosting.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
The showes he's teaching now.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Did he explain how his tongue got cut up? Was
he just talking to me?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
He bit his tongue, that's all. He just bit his tongue.
It was bleeding everywhere he was.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
He was alone.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
He was sad because he decided it was a good
idea to host an evening show on Radio Row when
everyone else was at the FHM party. I remember, ahm,
it's like a spinoff of Maxim Right.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
That was nothing I was interested in.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
But yes, I want to.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I want to just recruit k Roger to be my
afternoon interview recruiter. Like he seems very aggressive and shame
listen what he's doing. So I'm like, let's get him on.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
But when people are actually around, right, but unfortunately he's
teaching them.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
It made him leave the industry. Radio rope.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
It did one more time, A said Kevin Rodgers at night,
trying to get Ray Lewis on because he has no
guest booker because his guest booker and producer all of
them are at the FHM party.

Speaker 9 (09:22):
What else we got? Oh my god, Ray Lewis is here.
Can we get Ray Lewis in the show before my
tongue falls off? Ray freaking Lewis in the house? Wow? Hey,
Ray got a couple of minutes. Ray, Let's see whatever
Ray Lewis walks in and my tongue is bleeding. Wow.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
I'm just imagining being in South Florida at the time,
tuning into whichever radio station he was working for at
the time, and being like, this is not entertaining. Why
am I listening to this man whose tongue is clearly injured,
just yelling at people.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
I don't know if they're there or not. He could
be making it up.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
It's the most entertaining thing I've ever heard.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
I mean, it really is, Yes, because I know Radio Row,
and I know super Bowl Week, and I know stuff
like that happens on Radio Row during super Bowl Week
where all of a sudden you're sitting down, you know,
with with Michael Irvin and I think Hockey's this example
earlier Taylor and Mendoza walks by and you have to
politely tell Michael Irvin to get up because there's a

(10:23):
bigger guest waiting at your table, and You're like, hey, playmaker,
get out of here, and.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
I'll just yell hey Mendoza when I see him. Yes,
That's what I'll do.

Speaker 8 (10:32):
Yes daylor Is he Krodge could have gotten ray Lewis on,
and nothing would have been as good as that clipped that.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
If we got instead, ray Lewis would say nothing interesting.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
If indeed Krodge got him on.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I'm not a fan of cringe humor, and so I
would have I would have somehow taken my radio out
of my car and thrown it out the window if
I was listening to that live because it was so
cringe worthy.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
So anyway, I'm excit I did to take you guess
it's gonna be amazing eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
We're gonna take a lot of calls today because I'm tired.
Eight seven seven ninety nine odd Fox. We have we
have some episodes out already of Steve Gotson Company and
of God Bless Football. Steve Gotson company with Salakata God

(11:19):
bless football. Mike Ollick Junior joins us there and hopefully
we'll see our friend next week in San Francisco, although
he's telling us that he's going to stay in LA
because he knows how sad it is, so.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
See what happens.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yes, I wouldn't mind staying in LA.

Speaker 5 (11:32):
Are you into this game?

Speaker 10 (11:33):
Man?

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Like? It's not having a hard time getting fired up
for this game?

Speaker 1 (11:37):
I shouldn't be, but I feel like the country as
a whole is having a hard time.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Kind of getting fired up for this game.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
I feel like there will be people that the country
can sort of grab onto, grasp onto.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
I think JSN is one of them.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
I think if they didn't really recognize from the conference
championship game just how much of a fixture he's going
to be in the NFL for a long time. I
think the Super probably going to be another time for
him to shine. I have a feeling the quarterbacks aren't
going to play great.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Whether it be Drake may facing a quality defense.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
For first time in a minute, I mean, the Texans
were great but didn't really have to do much against him, right,
or if it's Sam Donald after essentially a cakewalk against
a bad Rams defense if he's all of a sudden
shaken up by this Pats defense. But none of that
makes me think, oh, this is going to be crazy
entertaining football, And none of it, none of it makes

(12:32):
me think the storyline is that compelling. Sam Donald's a
nice story, but we've heard crazier stories of quarterbacks winning
super Bowls. He's already sort of accomplished his comeback, right,
He's a legitimate top half, you know, top ten quarterback
in the league, which nobody thought would happen. He's gotten
to a super Bowl if he wins a bonus to

(12:53):
be honest.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yes, but Sam Donald was the guy who couldn't play
well in big games until he played well in a
big game.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
And if he plays terribly in this game.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Are gonna climb right back on him and say he
can't do it in a big spot because that's what
the sports media does.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
We're lazy, yes, but is that fun? It's like, oh,
I can't wait till Darnold loses, so we can go
back to saying what we were saying before, Like I
don't really know what else there I mean. If you
are a Drake May Stan if you believe he is
the MVP, if you think he is going to be
the best quarterback in the league for the next decade,
then you're sitting back and like, watch this, watch my

(13:26):
guy start his run.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
But I don't know how many people actually believe that.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Yeah, go ahead, teller.

Speaker 10 (13:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (13:32):
So I'm kind of worried about Drake May now because
after that Broncos game, there was a clip that was
going around where he's talking with his wife postgame. She
taps on his shoulder and he kind of winces, and
everybody's like, is Drake May hurt? And they kind of
dismissed it. And then Drake May shows up on the
injury report, the first injury report, he was listed as
limited for a right shoulder injury, and the Patriots kind

(13:54):
of downplayed it. And then Friday comes along. Today comes along,
and Drake May was not present for the media access
portion of Friday's practice. I'm starting to get a little
worried that Drake May is a lot more hurt than
the Patriots are leading on.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Aren't they saying this one's a sickness, right? He's just saying,
I'm trying to be smart, keep them away from other people,
which I would buy any team that's traveling anybody. Yeah,
you probably can get sick if it is sort of
an extension of that right shoulder injury, and they're a
little concerned about that.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
That clearly would be something i'd be freaked out about.
You had Rabel playing chess nut checkers? Is that what
you're doing there?

Speaker 4 (14:28):
I mean, his penis is at stake.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Put it on the poll. Is Rabel's penis at steak?

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Oh, it's interesting though, because he'd probably want to lose
if he's worried about it.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yes, they're just they're not storylines to your point that
you can really latch onto. You know, it's not anyone
playing for a legacy. It's not a guy who needs
to win a super Bowl. Sam Darnold doesn't need to
win a super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
He's done enough.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
You're almost hate watching if you don't love the Patriots,
you're hate watching the Patriots, which you've done for two
decades now. More than that the Seahawks. Like if the
Seahawks hadn't go on through the you know, Russell Wilson
legion of boom era, and then I would say, wow,
this is refreshing.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Story by these Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
But the only really part of that, like I said,
is Darnold, which you know, multiple teams, and then it's
you know. I think a young breakout talent like Jackson
Smith and Jigba is always fun to watch, especially at
that position. But again, I just go watch highlight footage
of him. I don't need to see him in the
super Bowl to think that this guy's going to be it.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
I already know he's the guy.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
I have found out today that Taylor will be attending
the super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
How about that? I mean correct, that's pretty cool for
the super Bowl?

Speaker 6 (15:33):
Yeah, for super Bowl.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
So you're getting back in time for Monday show or
should we find somebody else to do the VIP route?

Speaker 6 (15:40):
So we're working on the logistics of that.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
Yes, he's planning on doing Monday show from Radio Row.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
I'm worried he'll never leave.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
That would be even sadder than k Rod like a
Crickets Radio Row like posts Wow day after Yes, let's.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Hope for it.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company
Live weekday said three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
App is he for me?

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Super Bowl Week starts right now because we are having
former Jets coach on Eric Mangini for me in my lifetime,
he's a top two New York Jets head coach of
all time, Rex Ryan, Eric Mangini never should have been fired.
And the coach joins us right now here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
How you doing, Eric?

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Great with that in tro I love that fantastic listen.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
I love you.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
You delivered me one of the few playoff years that
I've ever had, so thank you for that.

Speaker 7 (16:42):
No worried. I enjoyed my time with the Jets.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Let's start in the obvious place here, the big story
of the week. What were your thoughts when you heard
Bill Belichick was not going to be your first ballot
Hall of Famer?

Speaker 5 (16:56):
What were your thoughts?

Speaker 7 (16:58):
Yeah, it's it didn't make any sense when you look
at his body of work, it's hard to compare him
to any other head coach and think this guy doesn't
deserve to be on the first ballot. And it just
felt like there was maybe some I don't know if
it's pettiness or personal issues associated with it, but you know,

(17:21):
Bill isn't mister personality, and he can rub a lot
of people the wrong way, and he never really cared
what the media thought of him and the bulk of
the voters our media. So I think it's unfortunate. I
think it is a discredit to the hall because it's

(17:42):
still obvious that anybody that he.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Deserves to be in eric Izzi Gutierrez here, I'm curious
just how you know him. Like you mentioned, he doesn't
care what the media thinks about him, right, he probably
doesn't care what anybody other than his peers really think
about him. How would you say that he would view
this as sort of a minor inconvenience or something that
he's taking very seriously because it's not proportionate to what

(18:08):
he actually wronged somebody.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
Yeah, look, I'm sure he's frustrated. I don't know how
you couldn't be frustrated with it. But you know, his
mantra was always he didn't worry about the media because
if he lost, they couldn't save him, and if he won,
they couldn't touch him. And unfortunately, you know that there
is such a role that the media has played, and

(18:36):
it's gotten bigger and bigger as years have gone on,
and it's proliferated. So I'm I would imagine he is
a football purist. He would look at it based off
of results as opposed to you know, whatever the personal

(18:56):
associations people may have with him, Eric, what.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Is your Do you have any sort of relationship with Bill?

Speaker 7 (19:01):
Now, no, we're we do not have a relationship.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
So I'm just wondering as the guy who as the coach,
and I applaud you by the way for doing it
at the time, for the coach who kind of, I
don't know, kind of peeled back the curtain on the
flake Gate, what were your feelings like if that's the
reason he's not in the Hall of Fame, How does
Eric Mangini feel about Spygate?

Speaker 5 (19:26):
I'm sorry, how does Eric Mangini feel about that?

Speaker 7 (19:29):
Yeah? Look, I don't think that's the reason. That may
be part of the reason. There are a lot of
things that happened over the course of time that people
have pointed to, and then people have looked at the
way that the Hall is voting, you know, in terms
of you have to pick three out of the five candidates, right,
you know, I don't those twenty years ago and he

(19:51):
won what three Super Bowls after that went to six
one two of the coordinator. I mean, right, I think
in retros look at the the amount of winning that
he did with multiple different types of teams, and through
the free agency and salary cap era, there have been

(20:16):
a lot of great coaches who have had great quarterbacks
that couldn't win anywhere near as consistently and builded.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Right.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
What'd you make here of the Giants hiring John Harbaugh.

Speaker 7 (20:31):
Yeah, it's you know, it's going to be interesting. John.
John was in a really unique situation in Baltimore. I
actually was with the first ever Baltimore Ravens team and
I was in the interview when we interviewed Eric Tacosta.
He came in as an intern and I was sat
in with Ozzy, who's a mess cat guy. Was a
mescat guy, and you know, he's been there thirty years

(20:54):
and several people in that personnel department, including the salary
cap pro person know, uh, multiple multiple guys have been
part of that department, and it's a real strength and
they have an identity and they've they've done such a
good job over the course of the Baltimore Ravens time

(21:15):
of identifying players and bring bring great players in and
and now he goes to a situation where he's going
to get a lot more responsibility for doing that which
which is his which is great, and it's something he
earned based off of the success that he had. But
it's challenging. It's it's extremely challenging. So it's not just

(21:37):
coaching the team, but but now being responsible for all
those other decisions very related to personnel. Uh in conjunction,
you know, with the GM to try to identify guys
that are right for for his program.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Eric, I'm curious, as you know, I would imagine that
people that go into coaching and just love football more
than other people. Right, So you're probably not having a
hard time figuring out what's interesting or most interesting about
this super Bowl coming out? But from your perspective, what
is like if you're geeking out on this, what's the
most interesting parts or part of the Super Bowl coming up?

Speaker 11 (22:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (22:14):
Look, I love New England defense and that's really been
the story through the playoffs and listen, their offense had
the face three really really challenging defenses to get to
the super Bowl. But when you look at what they've
done defensive lead, it's very similar to what we did
the first time we won the Super Bowl, where we

(22:35):
were coming off a down year. We brought in a
bunch of players that from all different teams, and Mike
Brabile was part of that group who we brought in
who is going to be a special teams player, that
was going to be his core identity, and he morphed
into something totally different and then they gained the momentum
that they gained throughout the course of the season. Tom

(22:57):
Brady was in the second year, Drake may Who's is
in this second year, they had more wins than we did.
We were five and five at one point and then
went on a run. But during that first Super Bowl run,
we only scored three offensive touchdownds and Tom Brady I
think was responsible for two of those, and then Drew

(23:17):
Bledsoe had had the third. And the defense and the
special teams are really the story. And New England's defense
is very similar to that. You know, they're starting a
rookie fourth round safety and Craig Woodson. You got a
guy like Elijah Ponder who's undrafted free agent who's getting
meaningful snaps. You got guys like Harold Landers and Tennessee

(23:40):
or Milton Williams right out now, the electrician Ellis. There's
so many guys that they've brought in and have come
together and they're doing a lot of things. They're matching
up their disguising, they bring different Politzes each week, multiple fronts.
A lot of that stuff is based off of communication

(24:02):
being able to play well together. So that to me
is has been really really fun to watch, especially in
the AFC Championship game. Andrew was hurt and they lost
Roberts Blaine pretty early. You know, all these other other
guys had to fill roles. Maybe they did such a
good job of that. That's that's it's speaking out why.

(24:25):
That's probably where.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
Well you geeked out the man. You really did? That
was great?

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Yes, yes, well look I'm with you here, And I
actually think that for a bunch of reasons that both
of these quarterbacks are probably going to struggle in the
Super Bowl, not just because they haven't necessarily faced the
type of defense as they're about to face, but also
just all the nerves and everything that comes.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
With the Super Bowl. So I'm just curious as a coach, right,
if you're.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Going into a game where you think, all right, maybe
my offense or my quarterback specifically is going to struggle.
How do you talk up the rest of the team
to tell them, hey, look this, if we win, it's
going to be because of you. That'socus on this, this
and this without sort of insulting the side of the
ball that.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
You don't think is going to do particularly well.

Speaker 10 (25:08):
Well.

Speaker 7 (25:08):
It's it's interesting because Breag May is so new to
this and he's had these huge and I felt like
Breag May is, you know, in a unique situation to
get Josh McDaniels in the second year, and that's that's
helped him so much in terms of his development and

(25:34):
the progress that he's made. But he's he's very much about, hey,
I'll do whatever I need to do help the team win.
He had there's no ego associated with with with him
at this point, which is which is fantastic. And on
the flip side of that, dam Darnold kind of had
a hero's journey. You know, he had the frustrating years

(25:57):
in New York and they got rid of him and
he traveled to with the Carolina next was starting there
with four and two. There he gets stumped. There, goes
to San Franz, plays a year there, then goes to Minnesota,
has the excellent season, kind of falters down the stretch.
They don't want to commit to him. Now he goes
to Seattle, so he's he's really totally just change the narrative.

(26:22):
I think this last game, the NFC Championship game, to
me was the biggest change in the narrative because he
was a big reason why they won. Where he's been
a big reason why teams have lost in those moments.
So hopefully he's over that hump, and you know, I'm

(26:42):
cheering for me. You love to see a guy who
who's kind of had the arc that he's had be successful.
It's it's a great story and it's another good lesson
for any young athletes or any athletes that are struggling that, Yeah,
if you work hard and you keep at it, you
can't get better, and you're not defined by the moment

(27:02):
you're in. You're defined by the things that you do
moving forward, and you get to keep rewriting your story.
And Sam's doing an amazing job of that.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Yeah, we cheer for all former Jets around here.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
I just wish it was still a Jets. Eric, What
was your reaction?

Speaker 1 (27:21):
People don't realize what a big star you were when
you were the head coach of the New York Jets.
And I'm wondering what your reaction was when your agent
whomever asked you, Hey, Sopranos called, they want you to
do a cameo. What was Eric Mangini's reaction to that.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
So I was actually in a bus. We had taken
a group of players. We went to see there's a
Golden Gloves fight in the city, or a series of
fights in the city, and we had gone to that.
We'd gotten a bus to go watch the Fight's Teddy Atlas,
you know, was a guy that I was friendly with,
you actually work with the team. And so we're driving

(27:58):
back in the bus and I got a call on
myself from a producer and I thought it was you know,
I thought it was someone you know, had a prank
or something like that when they asked me, because I was,
you know, I was such a huge fan. I love
the show. My wife and I watched it religiously, and
then to have an opportunity to be on it, it

(28:20):
was you know, I said yes right away, and it
was so interesting when we went to film the actual episode,
I was supposed to be friends with Tony and James
Caldelfini said, look, Eric.

Speaker 11 (28:33):
You can't.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
We can't have you be my friend. People will take
it seriously, and I thought, who would possibly this is
a television show. Who's going to have a problem with this?
But got quite a few emails and I'm negative reactions
to it, saying, you know, you're presenting Italian Americans the
wrong way, you're presenting pro football the wrong you know,

(28:58):
all the things that people can sometimes get up arms about.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
But it was a.

Speaker 7 (29:03):
Great call by James Gandalpeni to have it be more
of a hello as opposed to you good to see
again type thing.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Right, and you thought Jet fans were bad? I mean, jeez, Eric,
we appreciate it. Thank you for the time. I hope
to do it again soon. Sorry we're short on time,
but thank you. Super Bowl just started for me.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
Thank you, Eric, Yes, no worries, guys, great to do
it all.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Right, appreciate it. The great Eric Manginie, the greatest.

Speaker 5 (29:30):
Jet coach in my lifetime. God super Bowl Week is here.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on
Fox sports radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Eric Mangini, former Jets head coach, good to join us
at around four twenty is y. I saw you perk
up during the UH during the update there, which is
odd you perked off voice.

Speaker 5 (30:01):
Yeah, well.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
You perked up during the Vikings sound. What made you
perk up like that? Why were you so interested?

Speaker 3 (30:10):
The combination of the actual sound and Taylor being excited too,
because as we were, Isaac was discussing the news and
Adopho Mensa getting fired by the Vikings. They're giving reasons
as to why, and then Taylor said it's because of Sam.

Speaker 8 (30:28):
Darn well they said, they said, it's not because of
any one singular decision. Yes, and that's where I have
a BS meter. Yeah, it was going off like crazy, really,
because that is exactly what happens when the quarterback you
let walk goes to the super Bowl and the quarterback

(30:48):
that you have as a result looks like JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
That gets you fired ten times out of ten.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
I'm looking at a stat right now, sorry Stu, but
it's a few as starts by draft picks since twenty
twenty two, and it's the Dolphins are the worst at
one hundred and twenty two starts, which tells you about
my fandom and what I've been dealing with. Where the
Vikings are second at one hundred and seventy two and
there's like another fifty start gap between them and third
place there and that's its twenty twenty two. But the

(31:15):
results have been there, the wins and losses have been there,
except it's been zero to two in the playoffs. And
I'm like, after watching Chris Greer here with the Dolphins
survive so many you know, calls for his firing, that's.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
Because they have a loyal owner though I mean.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
They just right, but loyal for what reasons?

Speaker 3 (31:32):
You know, you have mensa here like just getting canned
that for four years and they were pretty good.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
They were okay, but you can't listen.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
You have a choice at quarterback, and it's JJ McCarthy
or Sam Donald, and you choose JJ McCarthy over Sam Donald.
After Sam goes fourteen and three, you lose the playoffs.
They understand, but he goes fourteen and three and then
the next year Sam signs with the Seahawks. Your quarterback
keeps getting hurt, your former quarterback is in the Super Bowl, Like.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
What does that do though?

Speaker 3 (31:59):
If you if you're gonna say, all right, I'm gonna
fall for that narrative, I'm going to go ahead and say,
you know what, that makes sense, let me get rid
of him. Does that mean that JJ McCarthy is not
well thought of in the organization? Does that mean that
the next GM is going to say, hey, we've got
to find another quarterback because JJ's not it. And if
that's the case, like if everybody else in the organization

(32:22):
is getting that sense, right, why am I going to
give it my all for this guy? Why is you know,
why are we even going with JJ to begin with?
I do think it needs to be addressed, like when
they say it wasn't because of any one move, just
say the names. Hey, we are in with JJ McCarthy.
We want him to be our quarterback. There is no
judgment on him quite yet. We still think he's going
to be great. But just getting rid of the GM

(32:42):
right now when that is the one sort of move
that stands.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
Out, I don't know if that does well for your locker.
I have the Jets trading for JJ McCarthy, man.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
That's about fitting, That's about right.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
Or Kirk Cousins because the Falcons are expected or release
Kirk Cousins. The odds that Ajan McCarthy or Kirk Cousins
is the next Jets starting quarterback for next season minus
five thousand.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Is he He bet on his head coach being the
quarterback whisperer and he lost. That's it, And Kevin O'Connell's
not getting fired. They love Kevin O'Connell. I don't know why,
but they do. Kevin O'Connell made the same decision as
the GM. He's the head coach, he's the guy working
with the quarterbacks every single day.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
And the guy he decided to let go to Seattle
is playing in the Super Bowl. Yeah right.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
It doesn't seem like it is a GM's fault.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
If he were to have assessed a talent and said, hey,
that's a good talent and then the coaching staff did
nothing with it. Like if it goes somewhere else with
that player, if the player goes somewhere else and does well,
then you should probably hate GM's good coaches.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
You guys are in the house.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
You guys are the ones responsible for getting the best
out of a singular player, just responsible for identifying it.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
We had Salvacata on a Stegotson Company earlier today. It's
been out for a while, and now he brought up
an interesting point.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
When did we all start caring about the Hall of Fame?

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Like suddenly everyone cares about the Hall of Fame for
a ridiculous reason, but no one ever cares about the
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
I couldn't tell you, like what coaches are really in
the Hall of Fame. Like, if you ask me who
is some of the greatest coaches in the history of
the NFL, I could name off a few names, but
I imagine there's way more coaches in the NFL that
I have any idea that exist in that league. And
I think it's yeah, it's one hundred percent right, which
is why I was saying yesterday. It's the only thing

(34:44):
that you could say about Bill Belichick that have people
coming to his defense.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
You actually you don't really care about the Hall of Fame,
but in your mind, you know, this guy's the first
ballot Hall of Famer.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
He didn't get that thing. Here comes the outrage, but
doesn't really matter. Single nobody really cares that much.

Speaker 8 (35:01):
You're right, Can I tell you, guys a something that
is a revelation, but it's not going to shock you
at all.

Speaker 5 (35:06):
Okay, well it's not a revelation, but go ahead.

Speaker 8 (35:09):
I believe it was twenty twenty one. I had one
day of PTO left, and I took it to go
see Derek Jeter get enshrined in Cooperstown.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
See that's a little different.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
I'm so proud of you get the opportunity to see
like a childhood hero in person in any capacity, much
less something that means so much to that player. That's
pretty cool. But who else got enshrined that day? What
were their stories? What were their speeches, what were their histories?

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Like, I bet you don't remember.

Speaker 8 (35:37):
To be honest, I don't remember because in my mind
only Jeter went in that day.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
It could have been Jeter opening five guys Burgers, and
it would be like, Wow, what a day, Taylor, do
me a favor.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
See who else was in that class? Okay, I want
to see who you're dismissing right now? If possible, who
else was in Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame class?

Speaker 5 (35:58):
Tail or A big, big Yankee man. Of course, his
final day PTO was spent in Cooper's Down. I have
never been prouder of you. Do you hear me son son?

Speaker 4 (36:10):
I hear his son seriously though.

Speaker 5 (36:12):
He's looking up Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame class.

Speaker 8 (36:15):
I'll tell you, I'll tell you why. Yeah it was
Derek Jeter. Yeah, Ted Simmons.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
What really, the Brewers catcher and Larry Walker?

Speaker 6 (36:23):
What it might as well have only been Jeter.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Yes, you're right, Larry Walker benefited from playing a Coors Field.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
You could have told me that second name was made up.
Who else was that?

Speaker 1 (36:36):
You said, the Brewers catcher? Oh, Teddy Simmons, never heard
of him? Yeah, Teddy ballgame.

Speaker 5 (36:40):
Yeah, that's not Teddy Simba one of the great catchers
of all time.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
I mean he is really, yes, Tim and Johnny Bench Yeah,
ye huh.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
He's in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
I mean, but I mean he wasn't first ballot, right that?
What may tries was that?

Speaker 8 (36:56):
So he retired in nineteen eighty eight? Is he he
got inducted in twenty twenty, So I'm guessing that wasn't
the first ballot exactly.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
It's unfortunate when you have to go in with Jeter.
It is, that's not a guy. And perhaps Bobcraft is
right he didn't want to go in the same weekend
as Bill Belichick because you get buried, you know.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Okay, how just by his name, because you know his
speech is going to be terrible. Like I don't think
Bill Belichick if it wasn't if it was just this
year and people Bill Belcher going into the Hall of Fame,
I think it would just be an afterthought. I don't
even think you'd see it until like the first set
of commercials on Sports Center.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
There are certain guys, regardless of whether or not I
think their speech is going to be boring, where I
will go out of my way to watch them be
inducted into the Hall of Fame. Belichick was probably one
of those guys, now even more so because I can't
wait for his speech because he'll go scorch dearth on.
Everyone is he, but Belichick is probably My larger point is.

Speaker 5 (37:50):
There is a guy in every Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
Class where they are the more key, right, and you
don't want to go in with a guy like Derek Jeter.
You don't want to go in the same year Tom
Brady goes in. You don't want to go in the
same year Bill Belichick goes in. I understand that. I mean,
Bob Kraft needs to understand that we don't care when
he goes in, whether it's with Belichick or not. We're
not going to care about what Bob Kraft has to say.

(38:13):
I don't care what owners have to say. But I
am interested in this coach, his speech and when he
gets inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (38:20):
Because he's great. He's the greatest coach he's ever lived. Period.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Yeah, I'm interested too. And okay, so it's August eighth.
What do you think about this? He shouldn't go into
the Hall of Fame while he's still coaching, because like
he's gonna be sitting there, well, I mean still has
a job. Let's put it that way, because you know
how he is. And it's probably about a month before
his season starts, like you're supposed to be sitting there celebrating,

(38:46):
laying back, patting yourself on the back for everything you've done.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
You know, in his mind, he's just gonna be like, can.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
We get this over with? I got I gotta prepare for.
I don't even know who the opener is. I got
to prepare for.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
He se you in Ireland? How have I not known.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
That fine, he knew that right off the top of
his domeright.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
But Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame class and Ted Simmons
took him hours.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
I mean, Bill Belichick's gonna be up there thinking about
how the weather in the UK is going to affect
his UNC football team. He's not gonna care about his
speech and about making people cry, making people think about
his childhood.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
He's just gonna want to move on.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
Mikey. Yeah, is so right. And I can't believe we
kind of glossed over it. And when he said it.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
But Pollyon did he got ten people to vote again
Bill Belichick, so he didn't have to be the one.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
I mean, God, the.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
Stuc Gotts is strong in him. It's a good move
by Poleon. Yeah, but you hear him like he's all
he's so nervous during that, during that statement, it makes
you feel like there's some holes in the story, you
know what I'm saying. Yeah, Bill Hollan, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
I said no, it was just setting up for a joke.

Speaker 5 (39:56):
Let's go to raj in Orange County. Go ahead, Rajio.

Speaker 10 (39:59):
See hm, Hey, what's going on too?

Speaker 5 (40:03):
What up?

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (40:04):
One the next time you're coming down to uh C.
You gonna come for Alehana Fest September or what.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
I went to Ahana Fest a couple of years ago.
It was fantastic with Eddie Vedder on the beach there.
I don't know when the next time. I'm going to
be back, hopefully in a.

Speaker 5 (40:17):
Year or two.

Speaker 10 (40:19):
A man, we'll miss you down here. What do you
usually say at the Ritz?

Speaker 1 (40:22):
I stayed at the Is it the Saint Regis? Well,
I've stayed at the Ritz before. Monarch Bay is where
I stayed that hotel, room number five thirteen.

Speaker 11 (40:35):
Yeah, you know, it's pretty crazy.

Speaker 10 (40:37):
So was the last time you worked this much? Like
you've been on the air, on the air like every
day this month, done that like.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
I've never no, no, you're asking that this is the
hardest I've ever worked period and the discussion two consecutive weeks.

Speaker 5 (40:51):
It's crazy. And I'm going to Super Bowl nuts.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
I mean, he's had you on the air this long ride.

Speaker 10 (41:00):
Tell me about it. Yeah, where's Radio row this year?

Speaker 5 (41:06):
In San Francisco?

Speaker 4 (41:07):
We're the Super Bowl?

Speaker 7 (41:08):
Right?

Speaker 10 (41:08):
Is it by like the Chase Stadium? It's not that
LEVI is it Belave?

Speaker 6 (41:12):
It's in San Jose.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
Listen I just uh, I walk, I follow the crowd,
and when I get there, I get there, and then
I and then I dominate. That's what I did, percent man.

Speaker 10 (41:21):
I mean it both start till Jim Rome gets there.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
Right, Well, now, it doesn't start until I get there.
How about that?

Speaker 10 (41:26):
Hey, let's go all right?

Speaker 5 (41:28):
Roj lovea thank you about Ray way?

Speaker 4 (41:30):
Wait, Roger had a Nazi open question. Didn't even ask it.

Speaker 5 (41:32):
Oh he didn He's been on the phone forever.

Speaker 10 (41:35):
All right, man? How about that tennis down under? I
mean jokovish? Do we need to look into that? I
mean everyone's cramping, Sinner, Mussetti, Alcratz, all cramp and then
Djokovic thirty eight? Should we look into bat or just.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
He got two walkovers? I mean he should be out
of the tournament already. He was down two sets and
gonna walk over. Yes, we should be looking into this.
How is Djokovic surviving this? And no one else is crazy?

Speaker 3 (41:58):
I would check the bank accounts of those two. Please
air of a day let him walk over.

Speaker 8 (42:02):
You're saying that Djokovic is surviving this if you watched
that match today against Sinner, Yeah, he was by.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Point until the fifth set. Somehow guys, listen to me.
This is what ten his players have to do when
they age. Okay, So if you're down two to zero
in a set, you're down three to zero in a set.
Normally he would try to fight back when he was younger,
in his prime, but he just lets it go because
he wants to conserve and save his energy for the
fifth set, a set that he has to win. And

(42:32):
so that's what you saw that. You saw a guy
it's like a cagey vet. You saw him being smart
with his energy, Okay, because he only has so much
at this point in his life.

Speaker 5 (42:42):
That's that's what I saw him.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
Even in the sets he was losing, steats have no air,
he wasn't reaching, he couldn't, couldn't.

Speaker 5 (42:48):
Be one of the last two standings.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
So how about that somehow found that occident in the
last set, the last two sets.

Speaker 5 (42:55):
Actually, let's go to uh Derek in Pennsylvania.

Speaker 11 (42:57):
Go ahead, Derek, guys, first off, Hall of Fame, the
Kirby Pucket first ballot. Okay, if you look at the stats,
I know you've got a stat guy. Look at them
and compare him to Don Madden, and they are identical.
And Don Madden Lee actually has better stats. I just

(43:18):
want to move on to Mangenie. Yeah, So, as a
Cleveland Browns fan, the three greatest weeks of Cleveland Browns
fan ever was when Manginie was coach. And remember when
he stomped the Patriots three weeks in a row. It
was it was the best teams in the NFL and
then down to the Stains and then Breylan Edwards dropped

(43:41):
a touchdown in the end zone or they would have
beat the Saints. So if you got him on air,
ask him about those three weeks, because those are the
best three weeks of Cleveland Browns football ever.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
All Right, I remember to ask him.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
No, I'm going to apologize in advance for not asking
him about those three weeks.

Speaker 4 (44:02):
I was gonna try to ask.

Speaker 5 (44:03):
I mean, Derek, I love you, but I just I can't.

Speaker 11 (44:05):
Like.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
We have a limited amount of time with Eric Mangini,
and he is the greatest coach in Jet's history of
my lifetime. It's him a Rex Ryan, Okay, and I
want to thank him for getting me to the playoffs once,
go ahead, Taylor.

Speaker 8 (44:17):
My word association when I hear Eric Mangini besides just
Mangenius is Sopranos, and I've been working on my James
Gandalfini impression where he goes that's it.

Speaker 4 (44:26):
Just coach, just still working on that.

Speaker 6 (44:29):
I'm still working on it.

Speaker 5 (44:30):
Keep working, I said, I was working on it. Their
work harder.

Speaker 6 (44:36):
That said, just coach, Sweeten.

Betrayal Season 5

Betrayal Season 5

Saskia Inwood woke up one morning, knowing her life would never be the same. The night before, she learned the unimaginable – that the husband she knew in the light of day was a different person after dark. This season unpacks Saskia’s discovery of her husband’s secret life and her fight to bring him to justice. Along the way, we expose a crime that is just coming to light. This is also a story about the myth of the “perfect victim:” who gets believed, who gets doubted, and why. We follow Saskia as she works to reclaim her body, her voice, and her life.
