Speaker 2 (00:10):
App eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. Heisman Trophy winner Gino Toretta,
former University of Miami quarterback, two time national champion, he
joins us right now on the guest line.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
What's going on, Gino?

Speaker 4 (00:24):
What's going on to Gotts? How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm doing well, buddy. How you feeling this morning? I'm
sorry about the hurricanet great season, not the end that
you wanted, And I'm wondering how Gino Toretta, a former
UM great, is feeling this morning, this same afternoon.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Well, I'm doing Drive January, so I'm okay. Still still
a little tired. You know. It's it's not always easy
leaving stadiums, and especially one hard rock stadium when no
one leaves till the end of the game. So yeah,
a little disappointed. But we had a chance. You're saying,

(01:00):
there's a chance. We just we just couldn't get it done.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
And the last drive, Uh, Gina, what did you think
was going to happen?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
When Carson Beck got the ball, he had a chance
to write the storybook ending there. What did you think
was going to happen when he got the ball down six?
A chance to win the national championship.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
I thought it was going to be a tough game.
But I know this. I was looking for number four
and number ten. That's that's what I was looking for.
Malachai Tony. I just I mean, you've you've seen him
enough being down here Stu Gods, It's like you can't
tackle the kid. It's like Barry Sanders Asque makes makes
great plays, is absolutely phenomenal as a as a player,

(01:38):
seems to have three sixty vision like our backup cameras
in our in our cars. You know, he's looking to
the right and somehow he cuts left and makes four
guys miss. So that's kind of what I was looking for,
and I was hoping he was going to make that,
uh make that play. But you know, you know, listen
credit to Indiana Mendoza is a had a great playoff

(02:01):
run and just a gutsy call on fourth and four
and you run quarterback draw, which I mean I thought
he Signetti was crazy. I was like, just kick the
field goal. Go up by seven. But that's why, that's
why he's uh, he is Signetti.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
I guess, yes, Gino, you are a u M legend,
But was any part of you slightly I don't want
to say happy, but maybe some joy when somebody in
your Heisman fraternity like Fernando Mendoza is able to reach
the highest level in the sport.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Get the hell out of here.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
I mean, yeah, I mean, you know what I mean.
I'm rooting for Miami. I just he's such a great kid,
great family, and you know, obviously I wish him nothing
but the best and great performances. I just I just
didn't want it to come at the expense of my
Alma manor.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
You know, I've never fully understood a dry January. Just
tell you one year you sort of reset everything, and
then the rest of the year you're back to normal.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
I'm back to normal. I don't know what normal is
at this point in time, at fifty five. I just
I just know that I've been doing it for the
last My wife has been doing it probably for five years.
I've done it for the last few and.

Speaker 7 (03:14):
It's a little challenge.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
I'm not gonna lie, you know, jumping on a private
jet and going to the Fiesta Bowl and not you know,
having cocktails and then sitting in Let's see, my seats
for a festival were pretty good. They were in bid
wells box, fully catered, fully boots and not partaking. So
that was tough. And then to be in a box

(03:38):
last night, fully catering, and that it was there's some
tough days in drive January.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Well, perhaps you want to choose another month. What do
you think I mean?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
I was, I was, I was down with that. I
was down with that, but my wife said, if you're
changed a month and you got to do two in
a row, and I wasn't doing that.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
You know, going into this game, I was saying that
Indiana would probably win a close game because the two
teams are close. But I would say, you know, if
we're going by coaching staffs, the Indiana staff has an
edge there. When you look at the entirety of the game,
you shouldn't blame Carson Beck for one interception. You shouldn't
blame any one individual, and even the field goal kicker.

(04:20):
But when you see the totality of it, were special
teams mistakes, A couple of mistakes here and there, some
of the things that Indiana did, even having those backshoulder throws,
his options on big throws.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
How would you assess.

Speaker 6 (04:31):
The um coaching performance in this game?

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Well, I thought I thought it was I thought it
was good on both sides. I thought they were both
very conservative. I thought they neither coaching staff wanted to
make a mistake, you know that picked six like Oregon
through to Indiana or Ohio State through to US. I thought,
you know, conservative in nature. I thought Indiana did what

(04:56):
they wanted to do in the first half because Lucas
was out and our dbs were young, and they were
playing off and Mendoza was just firing rockets on the
sidelines and they were moving kind of up and down
the field. I thought Mendoza wasn't as sharp as he
was in the first couple of playoff games. It was
a little windy, and I'm gonna say as a Miami guy,

(05:17):
it was cold at the game, and I think and
I think, you know, his his accuracy wasn't pinpoint, but
because of the because of the weather and that. But
I thought that. I thought the play calling, the coaching
was was good. I think both teams made adjustments. I
literally just went back and kind of watched almost to halftime,

(05:40):
and there's a play in the first half where we
Miami punted and number six who blocked the punt. In
the second half, he almost comes Scott free and he
and he kind of reaches out and he's kind of
sloughing on the play, but he looked to the sidelines like, coach,
I think I can get one. And I looked and

(06:01):
I go, that's a player that told the coaches, let
me rush, let me go after one. And I would
say that play was really the difference in the game
when when he was able to get in and and
block the punt.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Uh Gino.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
When people say the U is back, being back means
winning national championships, it was a great run in a
great season. Did you walk away feeling like the U
is back? Were you proud of your football program walking
away from that game last night?

Speaker 8 (06:31):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Yeah, No, I'm proud of those kids. I mean, I
mean to get where they got in I would say
a short period of time. Now it's been twenty three
years since we've been there, but since Mario has been here,
it's been quick and now they had a great season.
It's just so tough nowadays. I mean they played. They're
playing an NFL season, you know, and I would say

(06:52):
they're playing it for free, but apparently they're getting getting
seven figure checks of cars house.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I mean, he's got a nicer house than you. Ge.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
I'm not gonna lie in my neighborhood, but.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Is that where all the UM quarterbacks live? It's Testaverdi there.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
I mean, I don't know. I don't know, but I
heard the rental numbers to gouts. I was gonna rent
something from you and rent my house out to him.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
You can't afford it. So you're proud. You're proud of
the you. You feel like they're back. They're not back,
They're not all the way back, because that means winning
a national championship and then winning another. But you feel
like Mario has because there were questions about Mario crystal
Ball and whether or not he should be the head
coach of the University of Miami, but he got it
done this year. And I was I was one that

(07:41):
criticized him. I criticized him often, but they got to
a national championship game when no one thought they would
get to a national championship game. And I have to
think that the U is back and they're not going anywhere.
G No, because they have the coach and they have
the money behind them.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Well, there's no question I think, listen, Mario has been
relentless and firing talent, and I think that, you know,
when you can put together a run like this, now,
all of a sudden, you're at the table playing for
a national championship. So you know, you can add that
as when he's making recruiting calls, Hey, we're there, We're close,

(08:16):
you know, and we're really close to win in a
national championship. The administration the university is one hundred percent
behind him. The resources are there, and you know, I mean,
I just tell people, listen. In January first, nineteen eighty eight,
I watched the nineteen eighty seven national championship team and
I was in Lake Tahoe snow skiing and Jim Kelly

(08:39):
was interviewed on the sidelines of the Orange Bowl Remami
won a national championship, and he said, why would you
go anywhere else? It's seventy five degrees and it's January first,
and I'm like, it's a pretty good recruiting pitch.

Speaker 9 (08:53):
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I mean, to have that weather, you know, to be
on and to have a chance to win a national championship.
Obviously they had a chance at home this year. But
I don't think there's any better place to go and
you can be successful and you know, it's a great
place to be. So I think that, yeah, it's all
the kind of stars are aligned. But I don't think

(09:14):
he's I don't think he's taken any time off. And
to be honest with you, gin.

Speaker 5 (09:19):
Know you mentioned stars and one of my biggest takeaway
watching that game and really just watching Miami this season,
Malachi Tony was a true freshman this season seventeen. When
the season started, if Malachi Tony is a three star
recruit in your rankings, get rid of those rankings because
they are garbage.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Well, right, I think Signetti could blow up that too,
didn't he have? He didn't have any five stars. He
had a couple of four stars, and pretty much the
majorities were three stars, but they were experienced guys and
average age of twenty three. But yeah, I think there's
a listen you can find good quality players and he's

(10:03):
been amazing. I didn't know what his star rating was.
I was like, man, you can't. I think with Malachi
I would just say with sides, all right, he's not
the biggest guy. Maybe he's not the fastest guy. I
think he's quick as heck. Maybe the recruiting guy's like,
all right, where does he play? Does he play quarterback?
Because when they let him throw the ball, he was

(10:24):
more than just a receiver throwing the ball. I mean
he was dropping dimes on the sideline. So it's like
almost like he could play anywhere. I think he's a
five star player, but maybe he was a three star
recruit because they couldn't figure out where he was actually
going to play in college. I don't know, but I
would agree if that guy needs to be re evaluated

(10:45):
and maybe fired from his scouting position.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Remind me of Hill Well.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
I was going to say he's the best college football
player I remember watching regularly since, like Percy Harvin. Because
the system is ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (11:00):
He's like, yeah, he played quarterback at Aquinas. Like when
they do that reverse pass. How many receivers have we watched?

Speaker 4 (11:07):
They just throw the ball to throw the ball because
they're supposed to throw the ball. It's like he's reading
the coverage. Oh yeah, I can get one in there,
and he's like throwing strikes and I'm like, Wow, this
kid's sharp. He'll he'll throw the ball he needs to,
He'll tuck it and run when he I mean like
that kind of stuff. That's that's just pure being a
football player and making great decisions. He's just he is.

(11:29):
Uh he's been fun to watch and uh, I seriously
like some of the cuts he makes.

Speaker 10 (11:34):
I'm like, how does he see that?

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Dude? I mean, like he's cutting across the field. It's
like five he's like playing five steps ahead in in chess.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
They should have put him at quarterback for that final drive.
I mean, the way you guys are talking about him.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
Well, he is such a attractive piece. Like I think
Miami might already have their quarterback for next year settled,
but it's such an attractive piece you could you could
use that to sell other recruits to come to your school.
Because we've got presumably this guy for at least another
two years. And I don't care if you win a
national championship in those two years, You're going to have
a blast played with this dude.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Well, there's no question I mean not only throwing to him,
but and even I would say he was probably used
in the Ohio State game more of a as a decoy,
and I think Ohio State defense went into games thinking
we shut down Tony, We're shutting down Miami, and really
only I think he had four or five catch it
it was. It was nothing huge, But I mean he
was a great blocker, just a tough, you know, all

(12:32):
around football player. But yeah, I think you know, if
you're a big white out like Jeremiah Spence, like, hell,
I want to go there because I know if my
slot guy's getting doubled, I'm getting seagull coverage on the outside,
I can I can go catch a hunter balls. So yeah,
I would agree with you.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
G You know, if you had to pie chart the
stadium last night, percentage of that stadium filled with Indiana
fans was what.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
You know. I was kind of shocked, segot. I'm not
gonna lie. I thought it was going to because I
was told that the Arizona or the Atlanta game it
was ninety percent Indiana fans.

Speaker 11 (13:06):
I'm going to probably.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Say sixty forty Indiana some somewhere around there. I really
with the number of people, numbers where people were throwing out,
the tickets were selling for I just I thought there
was going to be you know a lot of Miami
people that you know, we're going to opt out and watch,
but I was. I was impressed that Miami fans were there.

(13:29):
They made it hard. I think Indiana fans likewise made
it hard at times on Miami. And it was it was.
It was a great It was a great game to watch.
It was a fun second half. I mean the first
half with whatever we had thirty or forty yards offense
wasn't exactly very fun. But they made some nice adjustments
to the second half.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Well, you're tired of the Indiana fans, right, Like enough? Right?
I mean seriously, I mean, like.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Listen you know, if you didn't, I need to see
a ticket stuff from an Indiana fan who went to
a game three twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Just a ticket stuff, right, Trent Green?

Speaker 4 (14:04):
You you love this? So Trent Green and the Hire
Buddies and Trent went to Indiana and I didn't realize
their last bowl game was like nineteen ninety one, our
junior years. They won the Copper Bowl in Arizona or
something like that. And I texted Trent, I go, I
assume you're here. I'm like just wishing you good luck.

(14:24):
You going? Hey, you know what you know. And so
there was a couple I played with the Indiana, one
of the alignemen on the East West Trine games. So
there's a few there. There are a few fans, and
there they were out in full force. I will tell
you that at the tailgates.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, but there aren't many fans that were fans of
this football program before twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Let's be honest.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
How many games of Trent GREENO do? I mean, seriously, they're.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
They're hoop fans there. There there's no question there were
who fans. I mean, it's kind of catchy. I was like,
you know when they start whoo, I'm like, what are
they saying? Oh? Who You're Okay? I got you? I gotcha.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
I tell they put it on the pole was last night,
the first Indiana game Frank renattended since he graduated from Indiana,
where he was forced to go.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
To the game because he was playing.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh god, Gina, it's a wordy pole, Taylor Gin know,
we appreciate the time as as always. Man, We're sorry
about the uh about the us he said he saw
people driving with anger on the way.

Speaker 6 (15:26):
The whole city was angry.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Well, I mean you said it ain't putting up a notch,
you know what that is. It's like nobody drives you know,
friendly down here at Miami, and uh, you know when
I when I left, I didn't kind of you know,
I waited for kind of the trophy presentation and kind
of go out there. So there's obviously traffic, and I park,
as an experienced person leaving hard Rock, really close to

(15:50):
the exit, you know, and I back up. I have
to do like a four point turnaround, and.

Speaker 7 (15:56):
I'm and I'm like.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Like trying to get in the line to get out
of the you know, get on the F one track
and speed out of there, right.

Speaker 7 (16:05):
And this guy like right next to me, like he's
like pulling up. He's like two inches next to like
behind the guy. I'm like, dude, really Like he's like,
is it really going to make a difference if I'm
in front of you or behind you? I don't really care,
but he was like making damn sure I wasn't going

(16:25):
to get in front of him, And yeah, it was
it was people angry driving out of.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
There, your patience or your masculinity. I'm driving south.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, but that guy would have done that had the
canes one.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah, you know what you know what I say to Miami,
if if if the nicer car they think that they
have the right of way. It's not the actual right away.
It's the nicer car thinks they has the right away
and their time means more than yours.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yes, now people down here buy cars they can't afford
so they can get right away.

Speaker 11 (16:54):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Oh man, all right, Gena, So it was a great season.
We appreciate you being there for us. We're sorry about
the loss, but the you is back and it seems
like they're headed in the right direction.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Thank you, buddy.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
All right, we'll take a quick time out. I am
told a special guest maybe calling it. We're gonna find
out together.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Next be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson
Company live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Little players only meeting there, Taylor huh disaster they got
blown out by the Mavericks, and Jalen Brunson calls a
player's only meeting about that.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
This is what happens when you think you're better than
the NBA Cup banner. And now I'm afraid we've got
an NBA Cup banner curse on our hands.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Oh you are so right.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Thank you to Gino Tretta for joining us, The Bear,
Chris Filica and also Mike Olig Senior. I am told
that we have a friend on the line.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I have no idea who it is.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
We'll find out together, so guys, just let him on
here and hello, friend are you?

Speaker 12 (18:02):
I just want to say congratulations Steve Gotts with this
new program. You got it's Frank Calliando. Yeah, you may
not know my regular voice. This is this is this
is actually me. I could hear the fear in your
just there was a sense of nothing that's going on.
Everybody looking around the room like who could it possibly

(18:24):
if I had come on as John Madden and been like,
here's a.

Speaker 10 (18:27):
Guy who's really looking forward to Stu Gott's take something.
You know, you think of all the things that you
might think on your own, and all the things that
you might not think on your own, and the things
that you might not think and you might not want
to say. Those are the things that Stu Gotts.

Speaker 13 (18:45):
Thinks and says.

Speaker 9 (18:48):
Or yeah, maybe I should do it as the.

Speaker 12 (18:51):
New voice of John Madden. Nicholas Cage, here's the guy
who I believe we'll take over radio the way I'm
checking over, John.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I was the fear that you sensed was real because
I had no idea who it was.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
So well, thank you.

Speaker 8 (19:13):
Really easy one.

Speaker 12 (19:15):
It's really easy to sense fear from you because it's constant.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yes, I live in fear, so I'm drenched in fear.

Speaker 13 (19:23):
Yes, you're drenched in fear.

Speaker 12 (19:24):
But you're the only guy who seemingly always turns it around.
So that's the other amazing part. It's like, what and
here here is a bunch of falsehood to fix this?

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Frank on stage dot com, you can purchase tickets. He
is touring and I looked that up very quickly. Frank,
so you know with shows coming up in Omaha, Naples,
and Hartford, they're coming up next, tell people about the tour,
and Frank, if I keep promoting it, I'm gonna ask
you to congratulate me in different voices if that's okay.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
But I'll promote the tour here real quick.

Speaker 12 (20:00):
Yes, Yeah, I'm just I'm doing stand up all over
the place like you said, or wherever you said. I'm
Omaha this week, the Maples, Hartford, I got just outside
of Dallas, uh, the Choctaw Casino, Chalk Tribe Casino. Uh
that's in Oklahoma. So but just a Frank onstage dot

(20:22):
Com like you said, Uh so, so what are you
looking for here? It?

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Well, the real one, the real show I want to
promote because I know what's important to you is the
one in Brookfield, and so I want to promote that
one and I'll continue to promote it.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
But I would like Jim Rome to congratulate me as well,
if possible.

Speaker 8 (20:37):
How great is this you gots taking over a great
time slot on FSR, the FSR spots sports radio. Dude, incredible, fuenomenal.
It doesn't get any better than this. And right now
he's just in the middle of one of my pauses.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Now, I know the one in Grant, Oklahoma means even
more to you, Frank Calliando, and so I would like
Chris Berman perhaps to congratulate you.

Speaker 8 (21:11):
Say what you will, but nobody.

Speaker 12 (21:14):
It circles to dates the way Stu Gots judged for
a congratulatory call.

Speaker 13 (21:18):
And where he could, oh where to where?

Speaker 8 (21:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Now listen, Grant, Oklahoma means a lot, but nothing, and
I mean nothing to Frank. Frank Caliendo means more than
Salt Lake City. Utah, and because you're doing not one
but two nights in Salt Lake City, and so I'll
gladly promote that. If I don't know, Adam Schefter col
congratulate me.

Speaker 8 (21:45):
According to my sources at this particular time, it appears
that Stu Goats and Company, which I believe is the show,
because nobody has actually told me what the name is.
They don't have those sources. They just told me that
he has a lot of friends that he's trying to
get to work for free and will eventually have to
pay them. But here's the point. It's a great show,

(22:08):
he's a great person, and I am not being paid
to say this yet, as usual, all.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
Of Adam's facts correct.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Yes, I'll exchange. I'll exchange you a Cincinnati promotion for
Chris Berman.

Speaker 12 (22:22):
We already did Chris Berman.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
We did Chris Burman.

Speaker 11 (22:25):
I want to hear it again.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
It's my favorite one.

Speaker 13 (22:27):
Mack back back to the same world.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Okay, perfect, all right now, Cincinnati, by the way, April
twenty fourth, buy your tickets.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Frank on stage dot com.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Columbus, Ohio the most important place to Frank Caliendo. I
would gladly promote that in exchange for Robert de Niro.

Speaker 9 (22:46):
Congratulations, Hey, you know what, it's very good of you.
That is very nice of you. That's where and uh, congratulations,
you're doing a very nice job so far. By the way,
Caliendo on stage, we'll be selling ad Non Verks book.
And he doesn't mean job, not brook I heard him yesterday.

Speaker 12 (23:06):
Ah.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
But Columbus, Ohio, Frank, I mean, what is there a
city in America that means more to you than Columbus, Ohio?

Speaker 12 (23:13):
Uh No, but there's uh, there's none that mean even
more to Jeff Goldblaboo, even though I'm from Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
What what?

Speaker 7 (23:18):
What?

Speaker 12 (23:19):
Why why would we support Columbus Sea bus?

Speaker 8 (23:22):
Yes, incredible, going back to the sea bus day, back,
back back to.

Speaker 10 (23:27):
Me once again.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
We forgot that I was talking.

Speaker 12 (23:30):
And here's a guy who's just going from voice to voice.

Speaker 13 (23:32):
That's how much who loves Columbus.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
I'll gladly exchange you a des Moines for an Alpacino.

Speaker 13 (23:43):
And now just starting to sound like Whippy from Popeye,
I will gladly pay you Tuesday for Hamburger today? Yes,
or is it Thursday? I don't remember, but either way, congratulations,
you got great to hear you. You're as organized as ever.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
All right, final one Kansas City here, Melkiper Jr. Kansas
City chiefs, go ahead, talking about.

Speaker 12 (24:07):
Frem memdous situation.

Speaker 14 (24:08):
Kansas City.

Speaker 8 (24:10):
You know, people think it's in Kansas, could be on
the Missouri side.

Speaker 14 (24:13):
Tremendous job trying to figure out which state the city
is in.

Speaker 8 (24:17):
Hey, here's the deal.

Speaker 12 (24:21):
You talk about tremendous situations.

Speaker 14 (24:23):
Uh, you look at a guy like Stu Gotts.

Speaker 12 (24:25):
What's the guys, what's the ceiling? What's the floor? The floor?

Speaker 14 (24:28):
He's reached and stayed there for quite a long time.
He's worked towards the ceiling at the end of the day.
Tremendous ring, wingspan, incredible fast twitch muscle. For my money,
you're not gonna get anything better than Stu Gotts.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
I've seen some of the.

Speaker 6 (24:43):
Best small hands though.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Frank on stage. Dot com is where you purchase tickets.
He is amazing.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
He's incredible, he's talented and his show is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Am I coming to the Naples show? Are you inviting
me to Naples?

Speaker 12 (24:57):
Yeah? Yeah, come on with with hockets. That was almost
tell you, Oh it's a gym. It's an amazing and
incredible and incredibly amazing show.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
Here we go, Jim Oh, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jim Jim.

Speaker 12 (25:09):
I'm starting up with Tony Romobile.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Frank Alliendo, you are the greatest. Frank on Stage dot com.
If you want to purchase tickets, I'd like to have
you around here more often. Thank you for calling in, buddy.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 12 (25:27):
Yeah, and I'll see it at the super Bowl.

Speaker 13 (25:28):
I'm working that out right now.

Speaker 11 (25:30):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
I want to see you in Naples, though, I do.
I want to come out there with Oh.

Speaker 8 (25:33):
Yeah, I'll get you.

Speaker 10 (25:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (25:35):
I'm sure you'll reach out for free tickets. Sounds good.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
I will and Soul Taylor okay, and company is also
asking for tickets.

Speaker 15 (25:43):
Awesome, guys.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
All right, thank you, Frank. We will talk to you soon.
Appreciate you calling it again, Frank on stage dot com.
If you want to purchase tickets, We'll talk to you soon. Frank,
thank you. Let's take some phone calls here if we
have them eight seven seven eighty nine on Fox. That's
eight seven seven eighty nine on Fox. And we'll get
to your calls here in just a second. The Knicks
player's only meeting makes me laugh. They're having a player's

(26:08):
only meeting because they were blown out by the Dallas
Mavericks and Cooper Flag, who I maintain is overrated.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
But really is that now? Izzy, just so you know,
is a Hall of Fame NBA sideline reporter, I am
not a Hall of Famer. Well, you should be in
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
It seems a little bit ridiculous for the Knicks on
the heels of that loss at home to the Mavericks
where their fans were booing them out of the arena.
It seems ridiculous a that the fans were booing, and
be even more ridiculous that Jalen Brunson would feel the
need to call a player's only meeting.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
Well, I know you're a huge Knicks fan, So you
know that they also lost the game before that to
the Suns. And I'm sure you also know that they
lost the game before that to the Warriors. And I'm
sure you know that they lost the game before that
to the Sacramento Kings.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
What so, what your thing is?

Speaker 6 (27:02):
Yeah, they should have had the players only meeting after
the King's lost because that's the most embarrassing loss. But
to be honest, like they are in a tough spot
they are. They were sort of hanging in there is
that number two seed for a while the number three,
and now Boston seems to be short of clinging to
that number two spot and the Knicks all of a sudden,
you look and they're only three games different from the
eighth spot. And there's a lot of people wondering if

(27:25):
Karl Anthony Towns could be relied upon for any period
of time anymore, because he is all over the place.
It feels like he's been released from responsibility for being
the big numbers guy just because his coach told them, hey,
you have to make the biggest sacrifice for us, So
in his mind that sort of frees him from blame
because he's got to take the sacrifice. And I think
that's the kind of stuff that they're talking about in

(27:46):
these meetings because they're ridiculously talented. They should be top
two in the East.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Small gripe here with Mike Brown. Draymond Green commits a
flagrant foul on Karl Anthony Town's Nicks. Draymond Green a
little beef there, and Mike Brown is hugging Draymond Green
after that game, like we're not two to nine our
last eleven games. Mike Brown, we fired Tom Thibodeau. You
to right the ship. Yes, why don't you write the ship, buddy?

Speaker 3 (28:11):
I like that.

Speaker 11 (28:12):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
And Tom Thibodau would never allow the players to have
a player's only meeting.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
He's in every almost he's in every meeting. Tom Thibodeau.
It's at least bugged, absolutely, But he's right about that.
Like you brought in a coach.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
You thought it was the coaching upgrade, the coach that
you needed, and yet here you are still having players
only meetings because you're losing the Sacramento in Dallas.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
You know, here's the thing you mentioned Tom Thibodeau. Like
Tom Thibodeaux is not a player's coach, right, he's a
coach's coach, like he works those players. You go from
that and you're supposed to improve. You're supposed to crack
the whip and go from conference type conference conference championship
series right to the finals and win it. And you
bring in Mike Brown, who sort of sort of walks

(28:53):
the line between players coach and coaches coach, like he
wants to be your buddy, but he also wants to
be like a hardcore coach, and I think you might
lose some people that way. Like I think you might
sort of for a second, let go of the rope
because you think things are okay because he's so friendly
and stuff like that. I'm not saying he needs to
be a jerk, but I think there's some of that
can go away in the regular season and maybe you

(29:14):
don't have You're not on it every single game in
the regular season, and so you know, maybe your playoff
position suffers and maybe your playoff path becomes more difficult.
So Mike Brown, I think needs to have a coaches
only meeting really talk about what they're doing, because I
think the players themselves, in terms of talent and ability
are good.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Let's go out to Calvin, who's in Indianapolis.

Speaker 14 (29:36):
Calvin, go ahead, Hey, this is the best radio show
there is and I'm missing all the time.

Speaker 16 (29:43):
You want to make a comment. Even though I'm a
Ravens fan and I'm sad about losing Harball, but I
think New York Giants is going to be a good
spot because I'm waiting on Christopher Burman and say the
g Man and also and Brunson. Hope nobody takes the business.
But don't he look like if Chuck he had a son,

(30:03):
a by racist son, it would be processed.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Ah. I think Taylor's he's laughing in agreement with you.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
I also think it's funny. That's the second best Chris
Berman impression we had on this segment.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
The only thing I do wonder with John Harbaugh is
if whether or not had he been able to prolong.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
The negotiations with the Giants until Monday, if he would
be the Buffalo Bill's head coach today.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
I think the dart Stataboo neighbors combo, but.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
At the time of the teams that needed a head
coach at the time, that was the obvious choice for
John Harbor.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
He can't get the Baltimore job.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
He was fired from the Baltimore job, and the Giants,
as he pointed out in his press conference, that organization,
that family means something to a guy like John Harbaugh.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
But I do wonder if he would have taken if all.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Of that would have went by the wayside, if the
Bill's job, if he knew the Bill's job was gonna come.

Speaker 6 (30:50):
Think if your guy like John Harbaugh, who has obviously
a Super Bowl success, has a strong reputation, has been
under pressure to win with Lamar Jackson. I think he
looks at the Giant situation and says, I can build
that there. It's not immediate pressure to win at a
super Bowl level. You go to Buffalo, you get knocked
down in the first round, they're gonna be calling for

(31:13):
your head already. Yeah, So I think it's a calmer choice.
It's sort of job security. Like the Giants are giving
John Harbaugh at least five six years. I don't know
if you could say that. If he is going to
coach Josh Allen and they start off in disappointing fashion,
that's a good point.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Gino tretta former Heisman Trophy winner for the University of
Miami two time national champion, will join us at four
o'clock and Mike Golick, Senior, good friend, good to join
us right now.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Let's get to Golick here.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Mike, did you ever think we would arrive This is
crazy that we would arrive at the day where the
college football capital of the world is Bloomington, Indiana.

Speaker 17 (32:00):
It is It is amazing. I mean, it's obviously the
sign of the times, of the transfer portal, of paying
players and good old fashioned coaching, right, I mean, Kurt
Signetti and his staff what they're doing, and the players
buying in. It all just came together to one of
the greatest turnarounds. What since nineteen forty five until last year,

(32:26):
Indiana had never won more than eight games. They were
the losing his program with over seven hundred losses, only
to be overtaken by Northwestern in the.

Speaker 11 (32:34):
Last two years.

Speaker 17 (32:36):
It is, it's stunning, and it's going to it's going
to show other athletic departments and presidents, presidents of colleges
how quickly you can turn things around with.

Speaker 11 (32:50):
The right mixture, right.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
And if you have a guy like Mark Cuban who
wants the football program to be good, that's how you
do it, right. That's it We college football in twenty twenties,
whether it be money.

Speaker 17 (33:01):
Money makes the world go round. Now again, money's part
of it. You have the money to bring into the players.
You got to bring in the right players, and you
got to be able to coach the right players. So
while money is obviously huge and it always has been,
it's still part of the process.

Speaker 6 (33:18):
I know he's an not you guy, but it's still
jarring to watch a football game and then see Mark
Cuban on your screen like ill set like that, SE's
the basketball guy like it.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
It just looked weird to be. I don't know what.

Speaker 11 (33:29):
Well, it's amazing.

Speaker 17 (33:31):
What what championship games, whether it be college or or
professional sports, brings out the the stars like well, Mike
and I on our show, we're talking to Devin mccordy
the other day, won three titles with with the Patriots,
and he said before the Super Bowl going on and
warming up, he said, it was amazing. You look around

(33:51):
and you just see celebrities everywhere, and you're like, wow,
they're all here to watch us. It's it's wild. Now
in college it's different. It's more a lumb of the
of the schools. And god knows, Miami had a bunch
of former players there, but it does get pretty wild.

Speaker 11 (34:08):
It's seeing the celebrities.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
There, Mike, even though they lost, how much money do
you think rubyin Bain and Mesidor made last night because
they were really disruptive.

Speaker 17 (34:18):
Well, Bain was already going to be a high selection,
without question. He was he's he's going to go in
the top ten, depending on the need of the team.
But Moten was fantastic. Mesador was these guys. I mean
at two eighty two, seventy five, three twenty five, this

(34:38):
is a man's man's defensive line.

Speaker 11 (34:41):
So Bain was already going to be a high draft pick.

Speaker 17 (34:46):
You already, Yeah, exactly, he's especially now that that Dante
Moore dropped out.

Speaker 11 (34:52):
Yeah, Bain may end up being the number two pick.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Now, Mike, were you surprised that Signetti Because everything he
did up to that play, that decision suggests to me
that he was going to try to end the game
and not kick a field goal to go up six.
He ended up kicking the field goal. I thought he
should have went for it. Were you surprised by Signetti
doing that?

Speaker 17 (35:12):
Listen, I'm more of the conservative nature. I'm not as
into the today's game of going for it all the time.

Speaker 11 (35:20):
I would have kicked the field goal. I would have
gone up six.

Speaker 17 (35:23):
Now, as as Mike and I kind of discussed, if.

Speaker 11 (35:27):
You're up three, there's.

Speaker 17 (35:30):
Now you feel like you only have to go and
kick a field goal to tie. Do you really go
for a touchdown? You're kind of caught betwixt between. If
you're down six, you know you have to do everything
in your power to get a touchdown. Miami has the
ability to do a big play, So I under while
I understand both sides of it, I would have kicked
the field.

Speaker 11 (35:48):
Goal and forced Miami to go all the way to
the end zone.

Speaker 15 (35:52):
Is taking the three the new punk rock? Is that
like the new, like weird thing to do, just taking
just taking? Yeah, well, I know, against the grain, it
doesn't it.

Speaker 17 (36:04):
It seems like still going for it on fourth down?
Is is what's in everybody's head. If you always see
that that analytical graphic pop up of whether.

Speaker 11 (36:15):
It to go for or not, normally it's go for it.

Speaker 17 (36:17):
It's almost seems like every freaking situation is go for it,
And it seems like coaches today are going for it
when sometimes you know, sometimes three points will we'll.

Speaker 11 (36:28):
Do you right? And uh in this case, it turned
out to be enough.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Mikey is right though, taking the three points is the
new going for it?

Speaker 6 (36:37):
Yeah, but Mike is Mike's had such a young face,
but he makes such old references. So when you say
it's taking the three of the new punk rock, I
think even Golick was confused.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
Yes, I was.

Speaker 11 (36:48):
I'm not gonna lie I was.

Speaker 18 (36:51):
I was.

Speaker 11 (36:52):
I didn't know where you were.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Going, right, Just so you don't feel alone.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Uh, Mike, were you surprised going to the NFL here
just for a few minutes. Were you surprised? I wasn't.
I thought he deserved it. But by the Bill's decision
to part ways with Sean McDermott.

Speaker 17 (37:07):
I mean, listen, this is the year right between John
Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin Sean McDermott. Now, Harbaugh and Tomlin
both have Super Bowl trophies in their pocket, but they're
gone nineteen and eighteen years and with rosters, especially Baltimore
that figured should have won, haven't. And Sean McDermott, certainly

(37:29):
with the roster that has basically been stopped mostly by
Kansas City, one time by Cincinnati, but mostly by Kansas City.

Speaker 11 (37:38):
You know what's doing. I'm kind of both ways on it.
It's like who you mean to get? How do you
know it's going to be different?

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Right?

Speaker 17 (37:46):
But you've been over a time and time again that
you're like, okay, we need to change the cycle. It
was like Andy Reid in Philadelphia, right, winning NFC championships
or getting the NFC championship games, going to one Super Bowl, losing,
losing in the other NFC championship games.

Speaker 11 (38:05):
They they got rid of him.

Speaker 17 (38:06):
They've been through a cycle of a few coaches since,
but they have been to a couple of Super Bowls.
So and I always go back to the late great
Marty Schottenheimer who has said, ten to twelve years in
a locker room, players start to.

Speaker 11 (38:18):
Look past you.

Speaker 17 (38:19):
You know, you kind of lose that that kind of
grip on the locker room. And so it's all the
nice because after especially this year, with all the new
head coaches, and some will be first time head coaches,
some have been head coaches though Jeff Haffley was a
coach in college. We're gonna be We're gonna say, let's

(38:39):
grade the head coaches. And every year I say, you can't.
You have no idea, especially a first time head coach,
what they're gonna do if they were a coordinator all
their life, now they're a coach, what are they gonna
do as a head coach when they sit in that
CEO chair as a head coach, I have no idea
what decisions they're gonna We'll look at one of the

(39:01):
greatest dynasties of New England Patriots when those coordinators of
Josh McDaniels, of Matt Patricia, you know, went out to
be head coaches. They were awful and they're not going
to be head coaches anymore. So you absolutely don't know
what the difference is going to be.

Speaker 6 (39:18):
Right, Mike, So with the Dolphins hire and Jeff Hafley,
the Green Bay DC defensive coordinator, you don't know anything
about him. You don't know what he's going to be.
But I'm curious what you think of this being in
terms of being beneficial for a franchise. When they brought
in the previous or Mike McDaniel, you have to be
okay with two Okay, that's something you have to concede.

(39:40):
Or a previous coach, you have to be okay with
Chris Greer, that's something you have to concede. This GM
is bringing in a coach he's familiar with and they
have no necessary ties to a quarterback. It's actually a
clean slate for these guys, and they have a relationship,
the GM and the head coach. So I'm curious how
much that benefits a team where you don't have to

(40:02):
be like, Okay, I'll take this job, but I've got
this sort of ball and chain around my ankle that
I have to take with me.

Speaker 17 (40:09):
Well, I mean, is two are going to be there?
I mean it's two are not going to be there?
If who is there?

Speaker 6 (40:15):
Locally, we all sort of realized they're going to try
to find a way to get around it, even if
they have to take a hit in terms of the
salary cap.

Speaker 17 (40:22):
Yeah, well we've seen Denver take a monster dead cap
hit with Russell Wilson and look they're They're in the
AFC Championship game a couple of years later, how about it.
But so I'm I'm kind of all for a clean slate.
And it's not odd to have an offensive former head
coach and then the next head coach be a defensive guy.

(40:45):
We see that kind of quite a bit. Uh Actually,
and and Halfley being a defensive guy. Now, the issue
that you have when you have a defensive coordinator. A
lot of times that head coach can call defenses.

Speaker 11 (40:59):
We don't know if Halfley's.

Speaker 17 (41:00):
Going to do that or not, or led a decordinator,
but their most important higher than is who's going to
run the offense. And if you get a hell of
an offensive coordinator, in two years, that offensive coordinator may
be looking at a head coaching job and you may
lose him and have to replace him. And I'm kind
of like what Dan Campbell had to do in Detroit,

(41:21):
What maybe, what maybe Mike McDonald will have to do
in Seattle with Klint Kubiak if he gets a job,
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Mike, Thank you and enjoy, Enjoy the football weekend. College
football is over and Signetti has one more championship, the
Marcus Freedom.

Speaker 11 (41:37):

He runs it any.

Times for the odds up?

Speaker 6 (42:24):
Does he get it in?

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Tons doone?

Bo Mendoza runs the football and store.

Speaker 11 (42:35):
Twelve yard play.

Bernando Mendoza tremendous fake and then he runs it in.

Holy hell with Indiana Hoosier, this thing, Jesus, I.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
Feel like Henk Goldberg right now. Did you get the
podcast promo in.

Speaker 11 (44:35):
Hoosier?

Speaker 3 (44:35):
Yeah? So listen.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
Is he is a big Mendoza fan and Mendoza showed
me some toughness last night, and he showed me some
guts that he showed me some guile, and he showed
me the ability to turn this thing into kind of
like a circus a wrestling match with his comments after
the game that we'll get to in just a second,
But you had to be so impressed with Mendoza last night,
that run in particular. And it's tough this because there

(45:01):
were probably three unsportsman like penalties that should have been
called on Mendoza and that's why his chin was bleeding
and his lip was bleeding. But Mendoza, that's the most
impressive I've watched a ton of him this year, is
he I walked away from last night's game, the National
Championship game, the biggest of moments, more impressed with him

(45:21):
than I've ever been the entire season.

Speaker 6 (45:23):
I feel like saying I'm a big Mendoza guy now
kind of undercuts the whole idea that was a big
Mendoza guy well before everybody else was saying Mendoza for Heisman. However,
I remember the Penn State game, you know, the drive
down the field, game winning drive where I sent you
screencaps of that final throw. Yeah, where he was pressured,

(45:45):
where he was getting hit, where he was turned into
a folding table, as he's making the best throw at
the time, the most important throw of his life, and
it was a touchdown. And you know, watching him a
couple of play more since then, obviously you can just
tell there's a toughness there. And you know in the
National Championship game in his hometown that it didn't matter

(46:09):
what was going to happen to him, he was going
to focus and be at his best. And he knew
that Miami Hurricanes defensive line was going to be probably
the best one he faced all season. And that's why
I love that they went after him because when he
had the bloody lip, like I just thought of, I
don't know, Dwayne Wade bloody lip against the Knicks one
year where he went off for like fifty. That just

(46:30):
sets people off sometimes, and that was another reminder that
he needed. But you knew he was motivated. And I
think Taylor's about to tell you.

Speaker 5 (46:38):
Why if you were doing a storybook on this, you
couldn't script it better. That the person that takes out
Miami is one of their own. And Fernando Mendoza made
sure to get that jab in after he won the
National Championship because he called Miami out and was like,
these guys denied me from a walk on spot. And
then he commits elsewhere, he wins the Heisman. He beats

(47:01):
Miami in their home stadium in the National Championship. Like
that is the best scriptwriters in Hollywood. Yes, couldn't tell
that story.

Speaker 9 (47:10):
Right.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
It's a great story. It's revenge. It's hey, you passed
up on me, and now it's full circle. Here I
am in your stadium beating your team and you didn't
want me.

Speaker 6 (47:18):
Question last year Bernando Mendoza when he was a Cal Beart, Yeah,
he lost to the Hurricanes in a very close game.
Was thirty nine, thirty eight. He didn't have the greatest game.
There was probably a targeting call or a late hit
call that should have gone Cal's way and didn't, but
they lost that game. If go back to last year,

(47:40):
they find a way to pull that game off. Cal
Fernando still have that same beef with Miami or do
you think that maybe he doesn't have that same fire
in his belly to try to beat Miami and not say,
you know, he probably still would have transferred, still probably
would have gotten to IU or what have you still
got that same revenge factor? Do you think if he
beat him last year? Because I think last year's game
added to it.

Speaker 5 (48:00):
Yeah, I think he would have still had that same
revenge factor.

Speaker 6 (48:03):
For the national champion.

Speaker 5 (48:04):
Yeah, just because of that denying him a walk on spot,
like I wanted to pay tuition to go here and
play on your football team, most likely be on your
scout team for years before maybe even getting a chance
when he's getting offers by like FIU. The fact that
Miami is the one, like they showed the pictures of

(48:24):
him in the crowd with like the green face paint,
the orange face paint. The fact that Miami told him, Hey,
you're not even good enough to pay tuition here, right,
that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (48:33):
Yes, it's insulting.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
And he got his revenge last night a little bit
too much with panning over to the parents every time
in Doza made a play. I mean, do I need
to see the whole family? And every time he makes
a play talking about the script rit you couldn't script
it any better. His mother has ms, his father is
sitting there celebrating with her not standing up. Yeah, so

(48:55):
that he can you know, they can both fully appreciate. No, no,
don't put me into a bad spot here, No no,
no, no no. I'm just saying I realize the family dynamic
and the situation and what everyone's doing, and it's heartwarming
and it's fantastic. But again, I'll ask the question, do
we need to go to the Mendoza family every time
he makes a play? I mean, the brother looks just
like his brother's no longer Withindiana, you're talking about the

(49:18):
younger brother. Yes, did that go viral when they were
celebrating when that kid came over and went Mendoza start
recruiting that kid now, Seriously, I do wonder if Mendoza's
game will translate to the NFL. He's going to be
the number one overall pick. But man, this would not
be the year I would want to be the Raiders

(49:40):
and have the number one overall pick, simply because I don't.
He's not a slam dunk and I'm not certain he's
going to be great. And when you take a guy
number one, you want him to be great, not good.
He's got to be great.

Speaker 6 (49:52):
If I'm the Raiders, I've never felt more comfortable in
the history of American football. Picking a quarterback with my
top pick, because you know who's giving me all the information,
all the insight, and all the opinion that I need,
Tom Brady, Right, Like if Tom and he was on
the ground there watching Fernando play. If Tom Brady tells

(50:13):
me that guy kind of reminds me of me. I
want him to be a quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders. Yeah,
he's going to be that, and he's probably going to
be pretty good.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
Brady had boots on the ground. Is that what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (50:24):
Yeah, yep, Brady was a six round pick. I'll remind
you right, there's a reason.

Speaker 6 (50:28):
For that, right, But in Brady's mind, he should have
been the number one pick, and Fernando should be the
number one pick.

Speaker 2 (50:33):
I have to follow this face because he's making faces,
and I know when he has something to say. Mikeyyey
has something on this what he got.

Speaker 5 (50:40):
Tom Brady being involved doesn't help at all.

Speaker 15 (50:43):
Greatness doesn't know how to explain greatness to other people.

Speaker 19 (50:46):
So him being there, he can't tell you like, oh,
this could just throw it the way I do, Like,
it doesn't work that way. I would say that Mendoza
has such a high floor.

Speaker 11 (50:56):
And a low ceiling.

Speaker 15 (50:58):
He's going to be fine in the NFL, not going to.

Speaker 2 (51:00):
Be great, though, I would say Brady's not doing him
any favors by comparing Mendoza to Brady.

Speaker 3 (51:05):
He's making it more difficult.

Speaker 6 (51:06):
Yeah, I just want to remind you we're live on
Fox Sports Radio, and Fox is paying Tom Brady to
explain a lot of football to everybody, and so I'm
pretty sure.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Can they explain the technical parts of a radio show though?
I mean, Tom, Can Tom explain that?

Speaker 6 (51:24):
I think, Look, I'm comfortable with Tom Mikey. I'm comfortable
with Tom assessing a quarterback and say because he knows
more than a GM is going to tell you. Like
he might not tell you the physical parts of it,
but that's not what makes a great quarterback. What makes
a great quarterback is between the ears and being able
to see the field and process everything quickly. If I'm

(51:44):
looking at Tom, if I'm looking for a quarterback, I'm
asking Tom those safe questions, what do you see in
this person's ability to process?

Speaker 3 (51:50):
Et cetera.

Speaker 15 (51:52):
That's why none of the great ones are ever great coaches.
They're not great gms. It just doesn't work that way.

Speaker 3 (51:58):
I mean he's kind of right about that.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
It's like Tom Brady can't explain. He would have a
hard time explaining to you in a way that you
would understand, really what makes Tom Brady great. He would
he would have a hard time articulating that to you,
what makes me so great because some of the stuff
that he does, you're not certain Mendoza is gonna be

(52:20):
able to do or wants to do the same. The
film work, the gods, the ability to be calm and
very stressful situations. Brady can't just look at a guy.
I know he's the greatest of all Todd, but he
can't just look at a guy and say, yeah, that
guy's me because Brady doesn't even know what makes him him.

Speaker 3 (52:37):
That's that's the larger point.

Speaker 5 (52:39):
Yes, why don't you get him an offensive line and
some receivers?

Speaker 11 (52:42):
How oft that.

Speaker 6 (52:45):
I think Brady knows what makes him great, and I
think he could explain it to some I'm not saying
he'd coach that person, but I think he knows what
makes him great. And I think having watched Fernando Mendoza
do all the things that you just said, be calm
in a big spot and make all the throws. I
think it's good. I think it's wells to assess.

Speaker 2 (53:00):
Yeah, but you don't agree with Mikey's overall assessment of
It's very hard, because I do.

Speaker 3 (53:04):
It's very hard for the great ones to revalue.

Speaker 6 (53:06):
I haven't seen too many of them, b GM, maybe
John Elway.

Speaker 3 (53:08):
Yeah, alright, Gino Torta next,
