Speaker 3 (00:21):
Jason Stewart's here our executive producer, Iowa Samar technical producer,
and I mentioned just hours from now will be the
beginning of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. You know
a lot about Royal Birkdale, Manci.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
No, that's all right, it's not in America.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I love working with Monzy because she's new to golf,
and so we took her to her first ever golf event.
It was the first time you'd ever been on a
golf course last month. Yes, Riviera Country Club is a
great place to have your first golf course that you've
ever been to. We watched the US Women's Open, and
now over the next four days, golf's final major of
(00:57):
the year will be taking place in what has been
a sunny, dry England over these last couple of weeks,
so you won't get the normal wind and rain that
we feel like we're going to be accustomed to at
the Open Championship. It'll be fair conditions and the course
will be playing fast and firm. So just remember that
over these next four days. If he can remember that,
(01:19):
it's Royal Birkdale, even better, I'm going to quiz you. Yes,
write it down, it's your answer already. Royal Birkdale is
where they are playing this year. And there are a
variety of courses that have hosted Open Championships. They have it,
they call it the Open Championship of Rota where they
rotate amongst you know, the yeah, some some more often.
(01:43):
Some are getting into the mix again, others have fallen
out of the mix. So that's how we come to
the point where you and Sam have been enrolled in
a game. Well, let's just have Jason Stewart take it away.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
I'll take it from here, am the Mancy Bolangos in
a game called Honors Course here on Fox Sports Radio.
Honors Course, Your Honor, Your honor. That's where the drop
was supposed to go. Monty viz Iowa, Sam, and here's
your host of Honors Course, Dan Byer. Thank you, ladies
(02:20):
and gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
It's a real simple game where Manzi and Sam will
test their knowledge and if these courses actually held the
Open Championship at some point during their time. Now these
courses maybe real, maybe fake, maybe never have hosted before. Okay,
(02:41):
winner gets nothing, but whoever gets the five first and
wins by two will be declared our winner. And you're
gonna have two stages of this. This is the first
stage and then there's the second stage coming up next hour.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
We hope to be joined by Eric.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
By the way, at some point in this program, a
former World Cup participant weighing in on this England Argentina match.
I may have just ruined the surprise, but anyway, let's
get it going. You're ready to play Honors course? Iowa, Sam?
Speaker 5 (03:15):
You bet you?
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Moncey, are you ready?
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I think so?
Speaker 5 (03:18):
Let's go right your first stop.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Okay, Royal Liverpool, as Royal Liverpool, Moncey ever hosted the
Open Championship.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
No, because it's not real.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
It is real.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
In fact, Rory McElroy won his only Open Championship at
Royal Liverpool.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
I believe Tiger Woods.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I know Tiger Woods had a record setting Open Championship
victory in two thousand and six at Royal Liverpool.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Well, I thought you were throwing me something with soccer
in it because of Liverpool. So I was like, he's
trying to trick me.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
This isn't golf Liverpool.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Royal Liverpool jumped back into the rotation somewhat recently with
that Tiger win, and now it's back in the road.
All right, Sam, are you ready to play? It is
your turn? I'm ready, all right, Saint Isaac's Saint Isaac's.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
So these sites rotate around the United Kingdom, right.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Scotland, England, even Northern Ireland.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
Like Sam's tactics to buy time. It makes no sense.
Saint Isaac's question makes no sense.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
I'm just wondering because maybe there's like you know, and
there's a never mind, just go with your gut. I'm
just doing the thought process here. It's it's real.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
It is not I did it because I just raw
on crowns usually at the news desk for US Honors course.
So far you both get f's in identifying have these
courses actually hosted the Open Championship? All right, let's keep
it with Sam, then we'll get back.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
To your to Monzi.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
What about Royal Sophia in Blanche Iowa, Sam, Royal, Sofia
and Blanche.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
The English, all of the Uni king they have weird
names for stuff. I'm gonna say that's real.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
No, that's half of the Golden Girls, Sofia and Blanche, Dorothy,
Herthy and Rose.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Two thirds of the Golden Girls? Right?
Speaker 6 (05:21):
Is there four? There were four? They're only three. No,
there're four. You're right, you've got that one wrong as well.
Did Scotland event you got an F minus. Did Scotland
invent golf?
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Dan?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
There's some debate on if they did or not. England
invented soccer right, Yes, okay, the Scots say that they did,
but there are other places that have decided to I'm
just trying to get my Scotland. Saint Andrews is the
home of golf. It is in Scotland. Speaking of St
Andrew's Monzies, what about the Old Course at Saint Andrews.
The Old Course at Saint Andrews is that is that
(05:54):
hosted an Open Championship?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah? I feel like the Open Championship has been around
a long time, so why not?
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yes, that is correct. The Old Course is probably the
most famous course in the world. Mancy first on the board.
You have an opportunity to go up to.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
No American League coming in right now?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
All right, what about BA course? Excuse has that course hosted?
Speaker 7 (06:22):
No?
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Because you're making stuff up.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
It was Baba booie was that I was trying to say,
she caught on.
Speaker 6 (06:28):
She is correct, the first one in that one I
would have gotten right.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I gave you a golden girl started laughing when I said,
sots come.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Up with weird names for stuff something.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
All right, Sam, you got the last one here. Okay,
Then we got to take a time out. Royal Saint George's,
Royal Saint George's.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
Royal St.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
George's. Yes, that's a real place.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
It is a real place. One there in twenty twenty
one Darren Clark won there. Ben Curtis is one there.
Royal Saint George's is a course that is host of
the Open Championship. We'll revisit Honors Course coming up in
about forty five minutes. Manzi, you hold a two to
one lead, but Sam will have control. And the next
(07:19):
question as we continue again, it's course on Fox Sports Radio,
your runner, you run it. Argentina almost had one there
saved by England. They continue to lead one nil. England
does in the World Cup semi final that you can
see right now on Fox Hydration Break as they are
in the sixty ninth minutes. He is Monty Belano, so
(07:41):
I'm Dan Byer. It is Stu Gotzon company live here
on Fox Sports Radio. We are in the midst of
the All Star break. Some NFL headlines as some rankings
of rankled some people, whether it be quarterbacks or top
one hundreds. Lebron James still a free agent that change
find out in fifteen minutes or so. But sef for
(08:04):
some summer school Mancys and Iowa Sam are taking some classes.
Jason Stewart take it away.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Thank you Dan. It's time for Honors Course. That's right.
The name of the game is Honors Course. Get it.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
You're runner, your runner.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Honors Course is going to pit Iowa Sam against Monzy Belanos.
Dan has the results of our one that he will
give away. But it's Honors Course on Fox Sports Radio.
And here's your host, Dan Byer.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Oh, welcome, thank.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
You Roy too.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
And Monzy is up to one, but Iowa Sam has
control and he has an opportunity to even the score. Again.
These courses may or may not have hosted an Open
Championship at some point. Some may still be a part
of the ROTA is the term that you will hear
over the next four days. Some have moved out either way.
(08:59):
Monzy is up to one winner that gets the five
and wins by two. That's how we decide it. So, Sam,
you have one question here, all right, I will give
you a course. You have to tell me if that
if this name is hosted the Open Championship or not. Okay,
you got it, all right. Crown Royal Marquee.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Crown Royal marquis Now are you trying to.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Confuse me with Crown Royal Whiskey, Crown Royal Marquee. I'm
gonna say that's that's not a place that has ever
hosted the Open Championship.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Jason Stewart was nodding his head. You know what that is, Jason,
Canadian whiskey. It is good job, Iowa, Sam, not a
good whiskey at that. Sorry, your runner, your runner, Sam?
Even things up at to a piece? All right, Okay,
what about Turnberry Monsey.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Turn Berry turn Barry.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
You've got the next two questions?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Word is it too? No, that's not, of course that
the Open Championship has used.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Not only is it there have been some epic finishes
at Turnberry, but it is falling out of the rota
purchased by are now President Trump's purchased the property. The
RNA has stated that they are not including Turnbarrier right
now as part of the rotation. However, that could change.
(10:29):
They made the decision soon after the January sixth attacks.
That was the decision at that point. But Tom Watson
almost won at Turnberry. He had the duel in the
Sun with Jack Nicholas, so much, so much happened at Turnberry.
All right.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
I thought you were going to say that turn Bear.
I thought you were it was not going to be
a place, and you're going to be like, yeah, Turnberry.
Turnberrys are some of the produce that you can't buy
in the wake of the Taco Bell virus. Turnberrys. Don't
buy those off. Neopodus.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
Watch out for that cyclospora. What about Monzi? The links
of sausage, there's.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
No way, for the sake of anyone, there's no way.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
This is no a layup. What are you talking about? Sausage,
sausage blanche sausage England.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
You've never heard of it. The links of sausage.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Links of Sausage is not a golf course at all.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
They are delicious, but they are not They are not
a part of the Open Rota or have hosted an
Open Championship.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
There is a sign there is a Sandwich Massachusetts, and
I believe a Sandwich England.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Thank you, random fact, thank you for that. I thought
you were going to be like it is something that
I ordered at the Saugas Cafe this morning. I've driven
through Sandwich, Massachusetts before.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Oh what about Musselburg Lynks, Iowa. Sam, You've got these
next to.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Links Musselburg Lynx. Yes, Musselburg Lynks. Man, that's toughs. I'm
gonna say it's it's no, never been, it's no.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
It has yes, long, long time ago. The last time
it hosted eighteen eighty nine, hosted six times.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
I would have known that for sureeen eighty nine.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Eighteen eighty nine. Yeah, back at eighty nine, it was
in the news.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
It was in the news.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
That was the last time it hosted.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
I had to find a newspiece of that on microfichh.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Sam, what about middle fingers Bro.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Say Sam, I want to win this.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Middle fingers Burrow.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Middle fingers Bro brou No, No, that's correct. I made
that one up.
Speaker 6 (12:51):
I feel like there's like something fingers like there's things
have been named like like islands in lakes are called
fingers sometimes they're used, yeah, but not in the sense
the finger lakes and upstate exactly and finger fingerling potatoes.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I don't know. All right, all right, Sam's even it up?
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Manzi you get these two right? You?
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Uh, well, how does this workchnically? Win the game? And
I don't get an opportunity to Well, that's why she
has to win by two and so you've had your opportunities.
You could have gotten that next question.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Right and beat me right and one.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
So that's why this is important.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
This is important.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
What about Royal.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Lim and St Anne's Royal Royal Lim and St Anne's
is that hosting an Open Championship? You are, by the way,
listening to Stu Gotson Company live in the latest edition
of a game we like.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
To call Honors Course.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Royal Lim in ann and St Anne's is a place
that the Open Championship has gone to.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
You are correct, Yes, it's gonna get one of the
next couple of years or any else. The last one
to win. Adam Scott ended up collapsing down the stretch
in twenty twelve.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Not the actor.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
I have noticed that Moncey, Uh, Moncey tries to read
me as soon as Dan gives a gives one of
the things like she's trying to read me, and see
if I give off a tell.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
I'm actually trying trying to read Dan first. Then I
go to you, you're not wrong, yes, yes, you're not wrong.
But I do try to read.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
All right, for the win, for the win.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
What about Carnusti, Carnusti, Carnusti, Carnusti. That's it, just one
word Carnusty. There's there's there's there's courses that are just one.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Word, your runner, your runner.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I'm going to say, yo, Carnusti is not that way.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Not the open is incorrect.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
It is.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
It is a very popular.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
There's been some great action at Carnousti.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
Carnousti Costco Molinari the last one to win their golf car.
Most notably known, not only was it the time where
Sergio Garcia ended up losing in a playoff to Padric Harrington,
but it's most known for Jean van Deeveld the nineteen
ninety nine with a three stroke lead and him blowing
it on the final hole, the seventy second hole, then
(15:25):
falling into a playoff with Justin Leonard and Paul Lowery,
where Paul Lowery ended up winning, but Carnousti sometimes called
car nasty for some of the conditions that they've had there.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
You're killing me small.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
So what happens now?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Now you get two answers? Okay, Burbery?
Speaker 6 (15:44):
Wait, wait, so Mancie's a point ahead of me, right, yes,
so I need to win by two, So you need
to get both of these so I would only be
up by one.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Yes, Correctay, we keep going, all right? What was again?
Speaker 6 (15:55):
Burbery? Berbery? Yes, that is incorrect. That is I had
so much conviction behind that.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I was confident that was the fastest you've.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Answered, great designer. I wear Berbery cologne.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
That's what I thought it was like. It just was
a common name that was like top for years.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
By the way, have gotten compliments of worn different variations.
But in line at Starbucks, you smell good. Thank you
very much. I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I love that Birbery.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
What about Royal sink ports Royal sinks or sink sink
Royal sink Port. I think you're trying to trick me
with a Stuart Sink thing. I'm gonna say no.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
It did in nineteen oh nine and nineteen twenty just twice,
Just twice, Monsy. You give me once from one hundred
Port for the victory, for the victory Mirfield, I got the.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Car nasty one, which is like the eighteen hundreds? Is
that what you said? No?
Speaker 5 (16:54):
No, there was a recent one.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Oh dar what about what about Merefield?
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Mirfield? Merefield Mirror No, Merefield. No, I'm gonna say no,
it's not a place that the Oba Championship has gone to.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
It sure has a bunch of times, including when Phil
Mickelson won in twenty thirteen. Mierfield one of the biggest
tests in golf, but has not recently held the event.
Hopefully that will change in the future. All right, Monci,
you get this one right. You can still win Royal
port Rush.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Yes, that is a place that the Open Championship has and.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
That is correct the winner a plus.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Isn't that where this one's happening at. No, it's the
Royal last that was last year.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
This year Royal Birkdale. Remember we started the Royal Birkdale.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
But I remember Royal so I was like, it's either
the place that he said.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
On Royal Marquis could have been there was going to
be Royal Kansas City. But I figured that you guys
would sit through that one, just like you guys saw
through middle fingers bro which I thought was was and but.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Bob, that one was. Uh yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
If I would have said Baba booie, you wouldn't. You
would have known. You would have known that it wasn't real.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Moncier, if I may, Dan, if I may, great job, job,
congrated very much. Yea.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Hopefully it's a good primber that Sat Andrews has the
Open Championship next year, and then as we mentioned Royalhythm
and St Anne's in twenty twenty eight, maybe Royal Sofia
and Blanche will get it.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
At some point.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
We shall see.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
That was a good one, that one. That one tricked
me pretty.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Good, only you, Sam.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
I watched the Golden Girls, but I didn't think about
that at all.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
I forgot Sophia. I remember Blanche for sure, your honor.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company

Speaker 3 (18:59):
App A happy Monday to you if there is such
a thing. Welcome in and it is Open Championship week
getting set for the action Royal Birkdale. One of the
perks that we have in living on the West coast Monsei.
NFL football starts for us at ten o'clock in the morning,
which is nice in the early season, regular season games,
(19:20):
it's still light out when the Sunday Night football, it
may be dusk, but it's not pitch black. And the
other thing is is the Open Championship actually starts Wednesday
night for us. Liked about ten thirty because they everybody
goes off on the first tee at Royal Birkdale.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
There's no split teas. They need the whole day.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
They got a lot of sunlight in England and in
Scotland where the event is played, or last year in
Northern Ireland. So there's the opportunity on a Wednesday night
before I go to bed, I take in some Open
Championship golf.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
And then how late are you going to stay up?
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Probably for about an hour or two. I'll stay up
till actually a couple of hour hours. I've stayed up
till one or one thirty. The problem is is then
the better players end up teeing off check at around
that time, and then at the time I wake up,
they're all done done. So I may see like a
bogie or a birdie early on, and then the I
go to bed and next thing you know, the player's done.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
You also just said if there is anything as a
happy Monday, I like Mondays. There's less traffic, there's less
people in the streets and in the stores. I could
go grocery shopping.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
I have argued that Tuesday's the worst day, and the
reason being because you've already accomplished something, but you're not
even halfway through the week, and you're still not on
a slog like, you know, maybe off the weekend high.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Sure, yeah, but yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Tuesday is actually the worst day during football season.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
You come off of a weekend where you've had football Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Monday, and then you're like, oh, it's Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Put my waiver wire claims in, I'm gonna wait for
a game until Thursday.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
I gotta wait forty eight hours for a stupid game.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Exactly, but I'm more for that. Tuesdays are the bluer
days over Monday. I just like that there's no traffic
on Monday. And again, I could go to the store
and it's not that there's not that many people out
in about because it's Monday. You know what I'm saying,
trained to push past the pain. Not athletes, just people
trafficked every day right here in the United States, sometimes
by someone they trusted. During the World Cup, help us
(21:23):
break the silence. Visit blue campaign dot gov slash World
Cup to learn more.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Now, Friday wasn't a great day for Tyler Hero of
the Milwaukee Bucks formerly of the Miami Heat. The news
that ended up breaking Friday afternoon. I look, we know
bam At a Bio threw a punch or slap Tyler
Hero did something struck him because he was unhappy with
a couple of things that happened with Tyler Hero having
(21:49):
an Instagram post about mid range field goal percentage. Also
a text exchange, a private text exchange that became public,
and bam At a Bio ends up viking Tyler Hero,
and honestly, Manzi and I think that this is completely unfair.
I understand that Tyler Hill the Hero is a guy
that people like to hate that he can play the
(22:11):
villain role, but here he is the victim. And I
feel that maybe initially people were like, ah, he had
a coming, But the real problem in all of this
is Bamana Bio and I think that the bigger picture
is heat culture. And so as we've now kind of
simmered on what has happened over the last seventy two hours,
(22:33):
and no one's really talking except Tyler Herroll spoke with
ESPN at Summer League. Didn't appear to have really any
physical injury. I know some people were saying that there
was a mark under his eye. Whatever the case may be,
Tyler Hero is not the villain in this. He is
the victim of this, and I think that the biggest
culprit of it is not only it's Bamana Bio, but
(22:55):
it's heat culture. It's a phrase that I can't stand
and it's an annoyed me because it's tried to separate
itself from the rest of the NBA, but in a
way it's almost bullying tactics, and I feel it's a
bit of a cop out for this to be the
opportunity for bam Outa Bio to do something with Tyler
Hero when he saw him every day of the week
(23:16):
for four or five seasons and nothing happened at that time,
And this is what's going to break the straw that
broke the camel's back. To me, it's crazy and Bam
out of Bio is completely in the wrong in the situation,
and Tyler Hero is not a villain in this spot.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
He's a victim.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
I agree with some of what you said, and on
all of it, I do think that Bam out of
Bio to me is the one that I'm looking at, like,
why did you do this? You are the veteran player
in this situation. You were not moved and traded. You
are still whatever you got annoyed about. Whether it's the
graph that Tyler Hero posted about the mid range percentage
(23:55):
of shooting with players because it also had Janna Santa
to combo on it. Who is in New Miami Heat Blair?
Who was that a dig at? I'm not internally sure.
I just don't agree that necessarily this heat culture is
to blame. In fact, you're saying, the first opportunity to
do this, you did it. Why didn't you do it?
You know, while you guys were teammates in Miami. Well,
(24:17):
it's because he knew that he was not gonna that
was not gonna fly around Eric Spolstra or pat Riley.
It was not going to fly. He had to keep
it together. The first opportunity he gets away from mom
and dad, he does something that he's not supposed to.
And I think that's why I'm just I'm with you
that it's like this is all bam, Like what were
you thinking in doing this? But I'm not blaming Heat
(24:39):
culture because I do think heat culture is a real
thing in the sense that those guys, if you play
for the Miami Heat, you are playing for each other.
I believe that. I don't know if they play me
basketball like in other teams where there's one start, they
play a team sport. And I think that's what I
like about Heat culture. But it is crazy that there's
(24:59):
no video.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Yeah, it's in a hotel gym, right that was.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
There's a video every There's videos everywhere. So it's just
like goes more to show how video of Jordan Pohl
and Draymond Green. That's impressive. How is there no video
of this?
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Jason remembers me saying, and I said it this past weekend.
The problem with the Warriors thing. They were more mad
about the video being leaked and it's not being leaked
because of Heat culture, right, and that's not a good
thing like that. It's not like this is Heat culture
of being a bully in doing those sort of things,
or if you're not on my side, you're going to
pay for it is absurd you Donnas has Them and
(25:40):
Draymond Green are now having a bit of war of words.
I'm not sure if we do have the audio at
least on what Draymond had to say. But the point
is is not everybody loves heat culture, and it could
have been a reason on maybe why Jimmy Butler was
done with with Heat culture. I think people thought that
he thrived because he led them to an NBA Finals.
But if you have your Donnas Haslam on the bench
(26:03):
to keep that culture in when he never plays, They've
had other players.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
I use the.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Example of Juwan Howard. Juwan Howard said on the bench
for the Miami Heat never played. Juwan Howard goes gets
a college basketball coaching job and slaps an assistant coach
from Wisconsin during a handshake line like I know he's
not wearing the heat colors, but there does seem to
be some sort of heat culture sort of thing with it.
You know what culture I want is a winning in
(26:29):
classy culture and having bam Adebio go up because he
doesn't like that Tyler Hero said that you shouldn't make
sixty million dollars for being a good defender. I'm sorry,
that's not what breaks the camel's back. That shouldn't be
what makes the house of cards fall, That shouldn't have been.
(26:49):
That's it. That's the last straw. I put up with
it for so long, and Monzi, that's it. That's what's
going to bring me to it. And I know that
you're saying that now that they're former teammates, that that
he had been waiting to do it. Then I think
that that is even more of an indictment on heat
culture that you couldn't have it out, and maybe more
reflective of why the Heat didn't have the success that
(27:11):
they've had over the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
But the Heat, I mean, what is success like the
Heat have what have been to at least the plan
and they have fought, they have never they have never tanked.
So I would never say that they were bullies like
I hear what you're I hear what you're saying, but
I don't know if I necessarily agree with that. And yeah,
you're not allowed to act like a fool when you're here,
(27:34):
you want to act like a fool outside of that?
How is it? How are you blaming the heat culture?
You can't clearly while they were together. I can assume
that being part of the Miami Heat the last couple
of years may have been a frustrating experience because they
were there, but it was never enough and they were good,
(27:54):
but again never enough. So I can see the frustration
in the being part of the mind Miami Heat when
the expectations are high and you're having success, but it's
not the success that you want. And so you're here,
you're not allowed to act a fool. You get out
of here, and you're allowed to act a fool. And
I don't know if I'm relating it to heat culture.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Heat culture. James Johnson, who is the guy that when
they do those player surveys. James Johnson's like the guy
who's a black belt in a bunch of different different
forms in jiu jitsu, and James Johnson's their enforcer, like
nobody wants to fight him. Like the anonymous poll is
ninety eight percent of the league would not want to
(28:36):
fight James Johnson. He's on the Heat bench. Donnas has
them on the Heat bench. You have these enforcers there,
and I feel that that there is this it's whether
it's a bullying sort of deal. I know it's a grind,
that's what it's supposed to be, and it's about winning
and hard work. But I also think that in this situation,
(28:58):
Heat Culture should have sorted out whatever differences bam Adebio
and Tyler Hero had had over the last four years.
That this shouldn't have been the final piece of it.
Heat Culture, if it's as as great as it was,
should have worked out whatever differences were going on between
the two because your culture is so strong. If your
culture is a way where one player is upset that
another player had a secret DM released and then goes
(29:20):
and pops someone, that's not a culture like that's that's awful,
and so what happened to Tyler Hero is awful. No
matter if people wanted to punch Tyler Hero time and
time again. You have an eighty two game season. The
Heat and Bucks play three four times a year, take
your opportunity. Then at that point, take your opportunity when
you were teammates sort it out. Then it almost feels
(29:41):
like the Warriors, for as critical as it was about
the video going out, would however it was handled, at
least had a somewhat better culture. And I know that
there were waves within the organization, but to me, this
is just the Miami Heat being bullies.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
But see, like I agree, I agree with what you're saying.
That to me, Bam again again, Bam, out of Bio,
you look the worst in all of this, and I
feel like it's unfair that because he did this outside
of Miami, completely outside of the Heat culture, you want
to tie it into that. To me, it's like it's
clear as day that like he's taking advantage of a
situation because he's scared of what happens back in Miami
(30:21):
like that, and again, all of this just makes him
look bad. There's no Tyler hero like you said, like
you can you can want a bunch of all you want.
In this situation, it seems like Bam is out of
line and it's disappointing. Bam. You are You're still in
Miami Heat. You are still very you you are in
a spotlight still.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
But that's my point is is if the culture was
so good, you wouldn't have to wait till he left.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
But it was good. While the point is a culture,
while it's there, you're not gonna mess thissup.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
But they aren't messing anything up. They they Jimmy Butler
carries them as an eight seed to a final again
an eight seed, So it's not like they're winning sixty
five right right, So like they're winning forty eight games
or in or in the playing tournament. So this culture
that we talk about, not only is it like winning
basketball games and bringing championships, it's obviously suppressing all of
(31:15):
the anger and frustrating, affecting the chemistry. There were worst
things said to bam at a bio when he scored
eighty three points, right, there are worst things said about him.
Then you can't hit a mid range jumper. And why
are we paying a guy sixty million dollars to be
a good Defender's.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Got to be something we don't know, Dan. There's stuff
about this relationship between them two on the heat that
we don't know about that we why was this that
broke the camel's back, we don't know.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
And the Heat Culture, if it was as good of
a culture, would have cleaned it up. It would have
taken care of the issue while they were teammates. So
like they when they have the alternate uniforms that say
Heat Culture, I just laugh. It's it's ridiculous because it's
not as good and it's not as cool as people
want to think that it is. And Draymond Green even
says that, Jason, you want to give us the idea
(32:04):
of what the summary I guess of what Draymond Green
was saying to you.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Donna's haslem and you talk about two people having a
history obviously coming into this, I guess Donna's has almost
real critical of Draymond Green and the wake of that
whole Jordan Poole thing. Uh. But Draymond Green on his
podcast paraphrasing here. So when I first saw this, I
was like, Damn, this is two young guys. E Donna's
has them raised. If you raise this young guy in
(32:30):
the light of what you say about me and now
he punches this other guy that y'all kind of co raised,
are you going to have the same energy towards them?
And how Donnas has responded on Twitter, it's a long post.
I won't get into it, basically saying you were on
sucker bleep four years ago when you swung on your
teammate and you're on sucker bleep.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Now Draymond Green, what what like he is? Is he crazy?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Well?
Speaker 4 (32:57):
No, he is? He is. I just he does things
every single time like you called out Eudonna's haslam in
this situation, like with everything that you have done, Like
are they are they grown men? Are they not? Like
we're gonna really put this on Udonna's haslam, especially coming
(33:18):
from a guy that has swung on his own teammate
who was a younger teammate where he should have been
the leader, where he should have been the one guiding them.
This is just like are we are we We're really
gonna call this guy out? You out of all people,
Draymond Green.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
But his point is if you're gonna call me out
in our culture out when the same thing happens with
your culture, are you going to remain silent? That's what
Draymond is saying.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
But like.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Draymond is in every headline and it's never a good one.
But does Dodona's has them have a history that of
being some somebody like Draymond Green. No. So, I just
don't know how Draymond Green finds the audacity to call
this man out when he has done so many wrong
things in his career and is still doing wrong things.
(34:07):
We're talking about bullies, that is Draymond Green.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Sorry, no, that's okay. Draymond Green was just saying that
Eudonnas Haslam had something to say about the Draymond Green
and the Warriors culture if you will, yes, during the
Jordan Pool fight.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Yes, uh huh.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
So now this is on Eudonna's Haslm's watch that.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
He's not even a part of this. So Eudonis Haslem
had a comment on Draymond Green punching his teammate Draymond Green,
then you, who are not even in Las Vegas right now,
I'm gonna blame you.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
The only part that I think Draymond went wrong is
that he did it too soon. He didn't allow Eudonnas
Haslm to have an opportunity to talk about this because
it just happened on Friday. If Eudonnas Haslm would have
been silent for a week and never said anything about this,
because again he is the face of heat culture. He's
the face of it. I mean he never played in
(34:59):
this final seasons there, he's the face of it. If
Eudonnas has Them would have stayed silent for a week,
then I think Draymond would have been one hundred percent
in the right. The only problem is is Draymond cashed
his chips in too soon and didn't allow Eudonna's has
Them ample time to actually respond to it. So now
instead of responding to the situation, Eudonis Hasm gets to
(35:21):
respond to Draymond Green, and now the point is lost.
That's the point where Draymond Green made an error. But
I don't think he made an air in calling out
Eudonis Haslam, who again is the face of the Three
faces of heat culture are pat Riley, Eric Spolstra, and
Eudonis Haslam. So that's who it is. And if you
(35:42):
have two players who spent all that time together, and
I know you and I now disagree on what should
have happened during that time, but I think it's a
fair point. If Eudonnas has Them was going to speak
on what happened with the Warriors, then he sures SECT
should be able to speak on what happened to the
Miami Heat, an organization that he knows a heck of
a lot more about than the Than State Warriors.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
I feel like we are comparing apples and oranges here.
I don't. I don't see how Draymond calling out somebody
who's no longer on the team, who was not at
even set event or location, relates to Eudonna's Haslam making
comments on Draymond Green, who is a bully who has
had multiple incidences in his NBA career, calling him out
(36:23):
for punching his own teammate, a younger teammate. I don't,
I don't. I don't see the connection here.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
I do.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
I he's the Draymond's Draymond would be the face of
the Warriors culture in a good or negative way, And
I think that Eudonna's Haslam is the face of Heat culture.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
I think that there's They're much more comparable than than
what you than what you see. And I feel I'm
not saying that Donna's Haslam should take all the blame.
I'm more putting the blame on what is Heat culture,
and and the blame ultimately goes on bam Adebio but
I think it's a bigger picture with heat culture, and
therefore I think that Eudonis Haslam is a part of that.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Draymond Green is saying that this was Eudonis Haslam's you know,
with teammates, that he should have whatever taken care of
them better. I just can I can see Draymond Green
if somebody said to him or someone said, well, Steve
Kerr should have taught you better, he would have. I
can see Draymond Green saying, like, I'm a girl and
ass man, I make my own decisions. Steve Carr has
(37:23):
nothing to do with what I do. But now here
he's saying that Eudonis Haslam does have something to do
with the raising of these NBA players inside his culture.
Like I just I have a I don't see it.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
He just wants if Eudonis Haslam had something to say
about Draymond, which Draymond obviously remembers what happened with the Warriors.
This is the comeback to that you had something to
say about us. Now let's hear what you have to
say about Yeah, just happening in your own backyard.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Yeah I had something to say about you punching someone.
Now you want to bring me in on a situation
that I wasn't even a part of.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Well, I think I in an indirect way, I think
he's a part of it because I think it's heat
culture and how absurd that is. This was a lotted
by some heat culture and that's ultimately what this, I
think is all about. You may not think it has
anything to do with heat culture, and I think it
has everything to do with heat culture. You're I'm going
(38:23):
to be the British reporter and put words in your mouth,
but I think you're just like Bam, got ticked, realized
that now he's not on my team. Now I can
finally do something. I wish you would. That's what Bam
had been waiting for since the trade happened. I wish
you would, Tyler Herroll. I wish you would say something,
and something was said and it gave him the excuse.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
I feel like Draymond Green should have came after should
have come after Bam out of bio if he had
comment like you should be critiquing Bam out of Bio
for what he did, not pulling this guy because you're
mad that he called you out.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I find it that Draymond probably had respect for you,
Donnis Haslam and then was surprised that he got called
out by Eudonis Haslam.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Everyone I know.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
But I also don't think that Draymond thinks that BAM's
probably on his level.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
No, right, well he doesn't. He doesn't. He probably thinks
Bam is below him, beneath him.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
And in a weird way, I think that he feels
that eudonnas Hasm.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Is on his level, and then Eudonna's Hasim is like,
are you kidding me? You're beneath me.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Sure. A lot of dynamics, a lot of dynamics within it.
But the only thing that Draymond did wrong was that
he spoke too soon. You didn't say anything wrong. He
just spoke to me, all right, She's bonti belanos. I'm
dan Byer. On a Monday.
Speaker 2 (39:38):

Speaker 3 (40:03):
So close by the way an hour in, no one
hears wished me a happy half birthday.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Ye oh oh, happy birthday. That's right. I mean I
knew it was coming. I said it two days ago.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
Sorry, my wife forgot.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
She called me on my way into work today. No, no,
I saw her this morning and I left the house
by and then she's like, oh, my gosh, I forgot
it's your half birthday because she married the one person
in the world who still talks about half birthdays well
into their forties, well into.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Their fort so you better celebrate her half birthday.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Yes, okay, it is. It was in May.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Want to reach us eight seven seven nine nine on Fox,
that's eight seven seven nine one six six three sixty nine.
But like Lebron James, we're only going to take questions
from plant to the eleven year old kids. So those
are the only calls that we are taking today. Jason Stewart,
it is my half birthday. How are you no?
Speaker 5 (41:09):
I knew it was your half birthday. I've been planning
on this. This is why I wanted to take you
golfing today. So today after the show, we're going to
play golf for your half birthday. He did, think the
entire time.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Golf and we may play half of eighteen holes because
it is so freaking hot.
Speaker 5 (41:24):
But it's nine holes, half of eighteen.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
But but it's hot everywhere.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
Yeah, it is hot.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
And it was hot last night at gain bridgefield House,
or at least somebody was hot. And that's one Caitlyn Clark,
boy was she mad? Manci Belanyos and that game against
the Golden State Valkyries. In fact, Caitlyn Clark talked about
the exchange after the game that she had with the
referee that went viral on social media.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Killy, can you.
Speaker 5 (41:53):
Take me through that second quarter play with Stokes that
aid in the claude like that the red campus and
then I have to play with a contusion in my
life the rest of the game. It's ridiculous. Campus holsing that.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Okay, now, I don't shoot the messenger because whenever we
talk about Caitlin Clark, the messenger is always attacked. But
remember a couple of weeks ago when the whole Alyssa
Thomas situation came out and we did a clip. Like
many clips on Fox Sports Radio, when you talk about
(42:26):
Kaitlin Clark, it grabs a lot of attention. But my
point was that Caitlin Clark isn't innocent in all of this,
and what happened last night in what you saw last
night in that clip was one of the things that
I was talking about in all this. Now, the other
part was the taunting on the free throw miss and
(42:49):
other things, and just players going after players, and you'd
get a lot of comments of, well, a fist to
the neck isn't the same as taunting someone agree. I
agreed with that, But don't make it seem like Caitlyn
Clark is little miss angel done nothing wrong. This has
actually been an issue with Kitlin Clark throughout her career,
(43:11):
so much so I think ESPN had a special camera
just for her dad because he would be telling her
during games, calm down, let it go, stop complaining that
sort of thing, and last night wasn't a great look
for Kaitlin Clark.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
It really was not. I love Kaitlyn Clark. I think
she's great, and I do believe that she's had a
rough time in the WNBA and that it's been unfair
treatment of Kaitlin Clark one hundred percent. But last night,
the way she reacted after that was just like, girl,
you cannot do that. I understand that life has been
(43:50):
unfair for you in the WNBA. I understand that they
have missed call after call after call. I understand that
the officiating in the WNBA is a joke. I understand
that you feel like you have a target on your back.
I understand all that. But with great power comes great responsibility,
and your responsibility in that moment is to keep your
(44:11):
cool and not act like that. And that was I
think an extreme built up frustration for her, letting it
out right like it's spilled over. She had been trying
to maybe hold it in this entire time. I really
get all that. I feel bad because she looks so
bad in that clip. She looked like such a brat.
There's no way to deny it in that clip, and
(44:32):
it's just kind of like it's unfair that you are
now going to be criticized. I get all that, but
it's because of what comes with the power that you
have as Caitlin Clark. You can't act like that. You
almost have to be you almost have to always always
be on your best behavior, even there, even though there
(44:54):
are times that it is justified for you to act out.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
And I don't disagree with that, and I would say
that in this specific instance, Manzi, instead of being on twelve,
turn it down to five, right, like the referee showed
magnificent restraint in not teeing her up. And I actually,
if we want to get to the real nuts and
bolts of it, the look is awful and you're one
(45:19):
hundred percent right. I think the worst part is the
doubling down in the postgame press conference. There's already this
thought process of the WNBA and the referees being poor,
and when you double down the way that you do
and say what you said and yeah, I got needed
in the thigh. How could you miss that? Ress miss
(45:39):
a lot of calls, That's probably why they missed it.
And if you would have seen the way that she
responded and at one point she wasn't trying to headbutt,
but she moved her head forward in a aggressive nature
toward the official that if you were in the NBA
automatic tea possibly being tossed, and she didn't get out
(46:00):
anything for this, and so like in this instance, not
only is she wrong, like we actually have to give
the WNBA official credit for understanding the situation and holding back,
because then if you tear up, then it becomes another
complete different.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
Firestorm, right right, And and that's almost worse for Kitlyn
Clark the fact that the ref didn't do that, because
now everybody so yes, because I think now that everybody
wants to criticize Kitlyn Clark, they can say she gets
to be a brat and they didn't give her a
technical You get that that angle of it is gonna
come out.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Sure, yeah, I can see that. I can see that.
I don't I think there's more on what the I
just I just I give the official credit. And like
in the terms that you're saying it, like maybe I
shouldn't have given the official credit. But in a way
of everybody saying that Caitlin Clark is being you know,
(46:56):
ruled or officiated unfairly. Here's an instance where it's only
about Caitlyn Clark, it's not about anybody else, And they
were like, okay, well we didn't tee you up, so
like in that sort of way, I understand the firestorm
that would build up as well.
Speaker 5 (47:09):
But there's more to it.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
There's I know, Jason Stewart wants to get to the
lip reading aspect of it and what exactly Kitlyn Clark said,
but Iowa, Sam, you want in I.
Speaker 6 (47:18):
Totally agree with you guys, Like the ref in this
instance is like allowing the toddler to have the go
ahead and just have your meltdown, like I'm not gonna
make it any worse. The ref took the high road
and just let her have that awful look on her face,
screaming in her face. So yeah, the ref looks like
the one who took the high road, and she looks
like the one who had the toddler meltdown.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
And Caitlyn Clark was very above line, above counter or
above board, if you would to say, kept it cleaning
the post game, but it was anything but clean what
she was saying to the ref.
Speaker 5 (47:48):
Jason, It's like amateur lip reading and this is all
over Twitter a bit. Give me an give me an
effinge call, is what she said. And she's two feet
from her nose, right f I got out five f
in times. That's what she said at the top of
her voice, seemingly. And then to your point, Dan, when
(48:09):
she was given a chance to like own it, you know,
I lost my cool. Maybe I shouldn't have been so
forceful or violent, she doubled down and said, yeah, you
got to give me the call on that. Like that
was like class lists. You go back ten days. Remember
it took her a week to speak on camera in
the way the Alissa Thomas thing. And then everyone gave
(48:30):
her credit for everything she said. And then one of
the things that she said was we all have to
do better. We all have to do better in treating
the officials. The officials need to do better, the league
needs to do better in supporting the officials. And then
this check gets up and two inches from the ref's face,
give me an effing call and makes makes her look
(48:53):
like a fool. And to your point, the referee showed
amazing restraint in this moment.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
I think, and to Monty's point, which I think is fair,
and I hadn't really thought of that. If she you
know she has given the technical then the backlash is enormous,
but I don't I don't know how it wouldn't be
warranted exactly, and so and then this ends up being
every single Caitlin Clark discussion that ever happens is it
goes to the polar opposites of one side saying one
(49:23):
thing and one side saying another, and not the actual
issue at hand. But this is something that Caitlin Clark
that to Jason's point, doubling down when we bring up again,
she has not figured out a way to control her emotions.
So then last month again when I say that Caitlyn
Clark isn't innocent in all of this, I'm sorry. People
don't love cry babies when it calls, we hate it,
(49:45):
we can't stand it. Yeah, we hate floppers. I'm not
saying that Caitlin Clark is flopping, but these are things
that can get under your skin when you're watching the
sport of basketball. And if somebody's complaining to the ref
every single time, not only is it probably annoying to
the ref, it's annoying to those who watch the sport
as well.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
Bo Knows chimes in and said, was it a ticky
techie foul or a foul. This not calling major fouls
needs to stop. I have no issue with her overreacting,
and it's it's kind of just like it's unfortunately for
Kitlyn Clark, she is she's on a different on a
different platform. The way I am going to look and
(50:22):
criticize Kitlyn Clark is different than the way I look
at other WNBA players. And that's what I mean. With
the power that she has, she has a lot of
responsibility and in that moment, she has to know, like,
as frustrated as she is, she can't act like that
because it's not gonna help her in any way, shape
or form. Like, I get it, it is not fair,
I understand, But Kitlyn Clark, girl, like I need you
(50:45):
to go get a bat behind closed doors and smash
some dishes. After that happens, like, let it out in
a different way, because that is not going to help you.
I do think that if the ref would have given
her a TECH, it would have been one of those
rare incidences where the conversation about Kaitlyn Clark is not
polarizing because everybody would have been like, yeah, she deserved it.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
I don't think so. I think I think it would
have just and I think that in the normal world
it would. But to her point, people only hear, guess what,
Caitlyn Clark's been needing the quad five times? All right,
She's been needing the quad five times. The third time
I would have gone off on the ref she waited.
That's how the argument ends up dissolving into what most
(51:25):
Caitlyn Clark. There's always a reason on why something is justified,
no matter on what side that you're on or isn't justified.
That's what I think it ultimately would come down to,
and it's why, like the the official in the matter,
I don't want to say, is in a no win situation.
But you know, in a way of not calling that foul,
(51:48):
I think it's more beneficial, or calling that a technical foul,
it's more beneficial for what the referees are going through
at this time. Yes, in the weird way of something
that should obviously be a technical foul, the ref doesn't
make the right call and calling it, but that actually works.
That's the sort of bizarre world that we are now
(52:09):
dealing with in the WNBA.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
Her not calling the foul is really good for the
officiating argument really bad for the discussion of Caitlin Clark
and her antics against not getting the calls.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
I think it's the opposite. I think her not calling
the technical foul shows well, what if you're not going
to call her give her a tech on that? Who
are you giving text to?
Speaker 5 (52:34):
Like?
Speaker 3 (52:34):
That's like, who are you going to give a technical
to you? If a player runs up to you uses
the F word five times, I think that would be
the overall discussion about the WNBA. But if she gave
it technical last night, I think you have more of
a hubbub about it. So I think she did the
right thing and just swallowing the whistle and taking it.
But ultimately that's probably not if you're if you're by
(52:55):
the book official and you're a ref. I don't think
that she followed it, but I think that she made
the right decision. I know it's a little bit confusing,
but I just by not calling it. If she called
it to your point, I think it would have been
a bigger deal. But you almost now every other player
in the WNBA is like, well, should we go up
to an official and say the F word five times?
(53:16):
They're better not give us a tea because they share
a heck than Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 4 (53:20):
That's another good point. What's upsading?
Speaker 6 (53:22):
See the way you guys are discussing this, it's like
you're creating outrage fuel, like on either side whether it's
called or not called, or like you can be outraged
that it wasn't called, you can be outraged that if
it was called. And I don't think this would even
matter that much. People wouldn't be talking about it if
she just wasn't like she's struggling, she's struggling to score.
She's not been a factor for the team. When she's
(53:43):
on the court. They end up, I think, losing more
than they do win. And like they're at home against
the Valkyries. I don't know if I can't remember if
they were a favored or not, but if she was,
if she was hitting five out of eight threes instead
of one out of eight and scoring twenty plus points,
I can't remember last time she said over twenty points.
Speaker 5 (53:59):
She's an factor.
Speaker 6 (54:00):
She's spinning her wheels this summer, and then this stuff
happens and it just makes everything look worse.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
I want to say this, and Sam, you are exactly right,
and I think Manzi, you and I inadvertently started to
go down the slippery slope of what ends up happening
to Sam's point of saying, and it's totally fine in
discussing it. The real point here, honestly is Jason Stewart.
The real point in all of this is Jason Stewart,
(54:26):
who watched the WNBA with great passion when she came
into the league in her rookie year, and everything that
has happened to that point is now basically turns you
off of the game.
Speaker 5 (54:37):
Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Like you're not as interested or rooting for Caitlin Clark.
It's now become not as enjoyable for you.
Speaker 5 (54:46):
Is that fair? I would say it's really. She makes
it very difficult to root for her nowadays. All the stuff,
this attitude in the antics. I loved about her in
college because she was just kick ass and not taking
names and she was like putting her fist in the
air and getting an opponent's faces. All this attitude stuff
(55:07):
was so appealing to her, and I think that's what
kind of created this popularity. Now she just looks like
a whiny ass little player and it's hard to root
And Sam's point about her not being good I'll go
one more step. She's not the phenom, she's not the star. Like,
what's the appeal of Caitlin Clark's game right now? She
(55:29):
doesn't have those moments where you're like, oh man, that's
that's different than anything I've ever seen in women's mout.
Speaker 6 (55:35):
She has some nifty passes, and she'll do some spectacular
things during the game, but scoring and especially shooting threes
has really hit this. You know, it's really those logo
threes were what put her on the map, I know,
and that's absent right now. And again people would probably
just ignore this officiating, you know, her bumping heads to
the officials. If she was scoring twenty five a game.
Speaker 5 (55:56):
She's not.
Speaker 6 (55:56):
She's she's chipping in seven, ten, twelve points a game.
She's got she's always got like a she's got a
minus a lot and the plus minus.
Speaker 5 (56:03):
She's got a lot of turnovers. Isn't like this.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
The point of it is that all of these arguments
end up going down the slippery slope and that we
aren't like, we're not talking about we're talking again of
how Caitlin Clark is being treated compared to other players
in the NBA, or how refs treat them, and we
aren't just talking about this right like that's because the
(56:27):
problem is everything can turn into something. But the fact
is that if she isn't playing well and isn't as
exciting to watch anymore, to Jason's point, that's not good
for the WNBA. And I think all the other stuff
that had happened, whether it be her injuries, whether what
happened to her the first year that she played in
the WNBA, all of those are reasons on why she
(56:47):
or why this league isn't following that rocket ship that
it had when she entered the league two plus years ago.
And I think that's like probably the biggest issue. And
I don't know if we'll ever be able to talk
about it like that. I have no idea when we
had the Aaron Judge argument not to bring that up
and saying that I'm that I'm right or wrong about
(57:08):
who's more popular. But this was part of the conversation
as well, of does Caitlyn Clark is she just flash
in the pan for that excitement of what she did
in college? Would she be able to keep that longevity?
Aaron Judge is injured now, not a great example, but
I still think that we would say that Aaron Judges
kept the longevity of being that face of baseball or
one of the faces of baseball, and now right now
(57:30):
with Caitlin Clark, it's kind of iffy, right She's the
face of the face of controversy and Kareem came, you know,
out and had the comments that he made whether she
is or isn't the face, but she was the face
of the NBA when she came into the league, and
now there's just everything that's been around it, and so
that that fandom and craziness about here. Again, she's not
(57:55):
innocent in all of this, and the last night is
a reason why that maybe it's not as big as
it once was.
Speaker 4 (58:00):
With Caitlin Clark is logical, it's it's nothing of it
ever since she stepped into the WNBA, and it sucks.
But like Sam just said, it's one side or the other,
and it's never the stuff that matters, which is the
logical stuff of how she's playing. She's not playing well.
Does it have to do with injuries? Does it have
to do because she's beat up? Maybe, but she's not
(58:21):
playing well and she can you can see the frustration
on the court with her, and even if things seem
easy to discuss with her, it's never going to be
like that. I don't know if that's going to change.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
I don't think it is. I don't think it is.
Speaker 5 (58:36):
Are you two, you two, You and Sam are the
noted Caitlin Clark fans in this building. Are you really
big fans of her? Still? Do you gravitate to her
like you always have or some of the stuff even
kind of worn on your fandom?
Speaker 6 (58:53):
I'd say yes, Yeah, I mean I'm still I still
look at her cumulative career and I'm like, Wow, she
is amazing, and I still think she battling for better officiating.
But when you have moments like that where you're so
frustrated that you cannot control like an ugly, you know,
appearance to come out, it's just hard.
Speaker 5 (59:10):
It's hard.
Speaker 6 (59:10):
And I don't want to be like a blind Caitlin
Clark fan, because, like Dan says, she's not innocent in
all this, and she she needs to work on herself.
She needs to work on playing better, shooting better, and
keeping her composure on the court.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
Well, yeah, I'm like, do you, Sam?
Speaker 6 (59:27):
I think she I think she her career's not settled,
her career's not settled. I just feel like this third
season is like this weird dream of like her first
three seasons sort of just combined and it's like she's
just spinning her wheels this summer.
Speaker 4 (59:40):
My opinion of her hasn't changed, but I am definitely
like wondering how the game's gonna go. I'm like, oh,
fever play, Let's see what Kaylen okak this game.
Speaker 6 (59:50):
She could have twenty five and nine assists, or she
could have like eight points and six assists and just
not be like an impact at all on this on
the on the game.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
But as Sam to wrap this up, because it is
only her third year and there is some feeling where
it doesn't feel like a third year. It kind of
feels clouded like it's been Yeah, more than something's changed,
but it feels like partificiating.
Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
People hate her or they love her. It's just the
same thing for three seasons.
Speaker 5 (01:00:13):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
I think she still is so early that she can
turn this around.
Speaker 5 (01:00:19):
Absolutely this is it's.
Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
Not changing my opinion completely of her. That I was
wrong on Kaylen Clark, that's not it. But it is
like I watch now games a little bit like, please
don't act the full Please don't do this, Kaitlin.
Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
I would also say that your opinion is different because
you're not Iowa mont I am not Iowa Monts because
you're Iowa Sam. There's always going to be something that
you hold near and dear.
Speaker 6 (01:00:42):
But again, I don't want to beat sugarcoat things when
she is being a brat, like I just don't. Ever,
that's just how I don't want to approach sports that
way because I think that's like to super fandom, and
so you have to be somewhat objective. She's being a
brat one day, that's somebody she needs to work on.
And I've seen her numbers. They're not good this year.
They've slipped a lot since the first like games. She's
in a really bad stretch right now.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Yeah, it was a bad look last night.
