Speaker 1 (00:20):
NFL kicks off tonight and we are loaded today. Jerome
Bettis going to join us. Bijan Robinson and Justin Jefferson
going to join us. In hour number two, we are
stacked today. Seahawks and Patriots tonight kicks off the 2026
NFL season.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
And we'll get to that in just a second. Taylor
has been sitting on a take.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
He's upset he did not deliver this take yesterday, and
he wants to deliver it right now as we get
ready for the NFL season. I'm not certain if it's
an NFL take. Mikey, are you aware of the take
that he's been sitting on here?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
No, but Taylor gave me a take before the show
and I've just been mad at him ever since.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
And I don't think that's the take you're referring to.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
But I've just been sitting here stewing about it. Like
I I'm, I'm angry with him.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
So he has two takes. Cause I believe this is
not the take that angered you. So let's get to
the first take here, Taylor. What do you have for us?
Speaker 6 (01:19):
After watching Florida state SMU and seeing Florida state be
three and 14 in its last 17 ACC games, It's
harder to be this bad at Florida State than it
is to be this good at Indiana.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
I like that take.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Put it on the poll. Is it harder to be
this bad at Florida State? than it is to be this.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Good at Indiana.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
Because those results that I just read, those are Purdue-level numbers.
They're Northwestern-level numbers. You're Florida State. You're sitting in the
middle of one of the greatest recruiting states in America.
You have a national brand, championship history, an enormous fan base,
and your result is paying Ashton Daniels a reported $ 800, 000
in NIL to be your quarterback. I wouldn't take Ashton
(02:03):
Daniels on my roster if he paid me $ 800, 000.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Put it on the poll. What's his name? Ashton what?
Speaker 6 (02:10):
Ashton Daniels.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
If Ashton Daniels paid you $ 800, 000.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Would you take him? Just put it on the poll,
just like that. What do you have, Mikey?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
This feels like Stu Gotts going 0 for 17 picking games.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
That's how Florida State, how bad they've been.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
It's almost like It's a mixture of luck and being
bad that gets you as bad as they are.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
You have to actively work to be this bad at
Florida State.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah. They were in the title game, weren't they, a
couple of years ago? Yeah, but.
Speaker 6 (02:44):
The fall off needs to be studied for this Florida
state team for other college powerhouses to be like, what
do we do to not replicate what Florida state did?
And I think the simple answer is not recruit a
quarterback in Ashton Daniels, who was six and 21 as
a starter between Stanford, Auburn, and now Florida state.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Or have Mike Norvell as your coach, right? I love
Mike Norvell. You do, but you don't. He should be fired, but.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
You can't say that you love a guy and he
should be fired at the exact same time.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
No, because this is like separating the artist from the art.
I'm separating the person from the football coach. I love
Mike Norvell, the person.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Great person. Yeah, great.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
The coach leaves a lot to be desired.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
The coach was the toast of Tallahassee two years ago.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
And nothing has gone right since.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Ashton Daniels. Funny.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Let's get to the take that upset Mikey. Who wants
to deliver this take?
Speaker 3 (03:40):
No, no, no.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Taylor's going to deliver because I won't even spit it out.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
All right.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
So tonight's the NFL kicking off. My Patriots are in
a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 7 (03:51):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
I'm sorry to say this. I'm watching on the TV
right now Liverpool play in their Champions League.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (03:58):
I'm more excited for Liverpool's Champions League campaign kicking off
right now against Atletico Madrid than I am for the
NFL tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Are you really? Because I wanted to talk tennis.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Because last night I was up until 3.30 in the
morning watching.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
What was perhaps the greatest tennis match of all time.
And you won't let me talk tennis. And now you've
dragged me into Liverpool.
Speaker 6 (04:16):
That Tiafoe match might've been the second. It was the
greatest tennis match of all time. Tiafoe coming back down
two sets.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
It was the greatest tennis match of all time for like.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
No, no, no, no. This is my Christmas Eve.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
You guys are not going to take this from me
by talking about tennis and soccer.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
No, this is my time.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
OK, I'm just making a larger point. I wanted to
start today with tennis. You guys said no. And somehow Taylor,
who was one of the two of you who said no,
has dragged us into soccer talk. You want tennis talk now?
Speaker 6 (04:49):
It's Christmas Eve. It's Christmas Eve. And me and Stu
Gatz are over here trying to celebrate Halloween.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, well, the U.S. Open is my Christmas Eve. I mean,
I love it.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
I do.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Francis Tiafoe, that match against Mickelson started when we were here.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
We were here, Mikey. We were here doing the show.
I got home.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
The sun was coming down and Tiafoe was still hitting
four hands.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
Stu, when I turned that gate, when I turned that
TV off yesterday before the, the Shelton Alcaraz match, I
was tennised out the Tiafoe Mickelson. I said, there's no
way the next match could be better than the match
I just saw.
Speaker 8 (05:26):
Right.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
So let me turn this off and let me turn
on the Yankee game. Right. And then apparently I missed
an all time class.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Well, there wasn't because you missed a woman's quarterfinal match,
which was a good match on a great match. It
was the match right after Tiafoe. That was Emma Navarro.
She lost to Pagoula. Pagoula, an American, is now in
the semifinals. Mikey is so upset. And then the Alcaraz
match happened and Ben Shelton beat him in five sets
at three thirty a.m.
Speaker 7 (05:52):
In the morning.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Greatest match I've ever seen. I watched the entire match.
I'm exhausted today. Mikey, so that's the take. It's the
soccer take that upset you, huh?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yes because you're right we both did say no to
you talking tennis you did even though you just squeezed
that in thank you and i thought i had an
ally in taylor i thought me and taylor were going
to be a hand in hand no no no we're
going to walk into this nfl season which starts tonight
we are going to do this together we are not
going to let stu gots derail us and then taylor
hits me with liverpool and i'm just i'm i'm beside
(06:26):
myself with how mad i am about.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I mean, I'm not derailing you.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
We have Jerome Bettis, Bijan Robinson, and Justin Jefferson on today.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
And just to be clear to Mikey, I'm not trying
to talk about this Liverpool match. Maybe some platform would
let me talk about Bradley Barkola getting his first start
for Liverpool in a Champions League match.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
You're talking about it.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
This is the platform, yes.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
And if you told me I could only watch one,
Liverpool versus Atletico Madrid or the NFL game tonight, yes,
I would pick the Liverpool game. But luckily, I don't
have to make that choice.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
I live in America. I could do both things.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Can I just say, you're saying all this while wearing
a Patriots logo right in the middle of your chest,
claiming your best friend, Matt Collins, is playing on the team,
and you would rather watch Liverpool and Atletico Madrid or whoever.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
The hell it is.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's a big match.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Instead of talking about your... I'm using air quotes for
those who can't see me. Favorite team, the New England Patriots,
try and get revenge against the Super Bowl champion, Seattle Seahawks,
led by our former quarterback, Sam Darnold. And you would
rather talk about soccer. That's what you're telling me.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
In fairness to Taylor, no one cares about the Seahawks.
What do you do?
Speaker 6 (07:47):
You do this with Seattle all the time.
Speaker 7 (07:49):
What am I doing?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
You want Liverpool.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
No, no matter what Seattle team we talk about.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
You always do.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
This thing where you're like, nobody cares about Seattle. And
then I'm left with the consequences of that where people
from Seattle are messaging me saying, why does Stu always
blast Seattle at every chance he gets?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
I'm not blasting Seattle. It's a lovely place. I've been there.
I've been there several times. I love it. It's wonderful.
It's beautiful. It's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I've been to the Gorge. I've gone to see concerts
in Seattle. I've gone to the Gorge for Dead &
Company shows. My college roommate, Chris Gordon, is from Seattle.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I love the city.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
Gordo.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Gordo. How'd you know?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Because there's only one name that can be somebody.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Like that, and it's Gordo.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
It's Gordo. Yes.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
So I love Seattle. Just nobody cares about the sports
in the great Northwest.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
I mean, nobody.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Nobody.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Listen, the NBA doesn't care about him.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
They have one of the most exciting teams in the
history of the NBA with the Rain Man, Sean Kemp,
and the Gloved Gary Payton, and they.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Moved the team. I mean, what do you want from me?
Speaker 6 (08:54):
I'm going to extend an olive branch to Mikey A.
We could talk Patriots, Seahawks. Mikey, Travion Henderson, sideline. Let's
get all your thoughts out that Travion Henderson, the Patriots'
star running back.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Is out for this contest. That's not fair to Mikey.
He's just excited that we have football, and it starts tonight.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
That's it. Yes.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
First off, if you want to talk about Travion Henderson
being out, don't listen. You would do this to me
with the NBA. You could do this to me with soccer.
You could even do this to me with baseball. You
cannot do this to me with the NFL. I will
tell you how Ramondre Stevenson better have lost those fumble
issues because right now, Travion Henderson being out is the
best thing to happen to him.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Let's go, Taylor.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
I am glad that the Patriots got the Christian Gonzalez
contract done before tonight because I didn't need the unnecessary
drama or Or distraction hanging over the team. Four years,
$ 135 million, making him the highest paid defensive back in
NFL history.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Deserves it. Does he?
Speaker 6 (09:45):
I think he deserves it. At least Mikey doesn't.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
How many cornerbacks can you name that are better than him?
Just off the top of your head. Sertan would be one, right?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
Stingley. I can name three.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Who's the third? Stingley is another one, yes.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
I I'm going to say sauce Gardner.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
But the problem is you have a Christian Gonzalez already
on your roster, and he's their first round draft pick
to sign a second contract with the team in the
past 11 years. Donta Hightower was the last one.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
If you are the New.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
England Patriots, you draft a guy like Gonzo to eventually
give him a second contract. We could debate where he
is in terms of top cornerbacks. If he's a top
five cornerback, you pay that top five cornerback to stay
with your franchise.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
And no disrespect to Seattle the way Stu does. I
forgot Devin Witherspoon, who's also playing in this game. He's
probably better than Christian Gonzalez.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
That's why I forgot him. He plays in Seattle.
Speaker 7 (10:38):
I understand.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
And you know what?
Speaker 4 (10:41):
We just did that whole thing where we were crushing Stupors,
and then I just went ahead and did it and
forgot about them.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I apologize, Seattle.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Devin Witherspoon's up there, too.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
To the great people of Seattle, I am not crushing
you or your city. I'm just saying nobody cares about
your sports teams.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
And I'm right.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
I cared about Ken Griffey Jr.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Did you?
Speaker 6 (10:59):
Ricardo just gave me an emphatic.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
And the unit, the big unit. Wow. Yes.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
No, they've had some great teams. I'm just saying nobody
cares about it.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
That's all. I mean, come get me Seattle.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Seriously.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
I ain't afraid of you.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
Both of you.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Mikey, I am so sorry that we started. It is
your Christmas.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
My Christmas Eve.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
And in the stockings was tennis and a soccer conversation.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
It's a big one for Liverpool.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
Gotta get started on the right foot.
Speaker 2 (11:36):

Speaker 1 (11:57):
We'll get to do me a favor. Taylor has his
college football week two tears as well. I want to
ask you guys a question real quick here. Does it
bother you? We have Texas-Ohio State coming up this weekend.
A monster game. But does it bother you at all?
Because I maintain that college football had it right to
begin with.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Their regular season meant something. These games meant something.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Does it bother you guys at all that Texas-Ohio State,
while still meaningful, doesn't mean the same that it used
to mean? Because you have to figure both teams win
or lose. Both teams are going to make it to
a 12-team playoff, don't you?
Speaker 6 (12:32):
You would think that, but the season in the SEC
is so long where if Tex— Ohio State could afford
a loss in this game. I don't think Texas can
because you're looking at a gauntlet of an SEC schedule.
It's hard to see Texas getting through pretty flawlessly. But
I do think there's an element there, Stu, where I
miss the days of college football where if you lost
(12:53):
in week one, if you lost in week two, that
was it.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Pack it up.
Speaker 6 (12:56):
Your season's over.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yes, right. We don't have that anymore.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
And therefore, this game, while a big game, again, a
big game, I have to think that both teams have
a pretty good shot of making it to a 12-team playoff.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
It's not an elimination game. I missed that.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
I don't miss that at all.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
I don't know why you would want your season to
be over in week one or two. This is going
to be one of the best games of the year,
at least on paper. Give me that every week if
I can get it. I don't want to just sit
there and go, well, I guess this is an elimination game.
I like that it puts a team on notice. Like
if you lose this game, you can't lose again. Now
(13:32):
we're going, if you lose twice, you're out. But no,
absolutely give.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Me this game.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
There is a good part of it where you have
teams that are more willing to play these big matchups
early in the season. But, Mikey, there's something almost romantic
about college football where the whole offseason you spend wondering,
is my team going to be good? Is my team
going to be bad? Do I have a quarterback? Is
my coach going to get himself on the hot seat?
And you go into week one, that ball is about
(14:00):
to kick off, and you have such high expectations.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (14:03):
And then by the end of that game, your expectations
are over and you're just thinking about when is the
next offseason.
Speaker 8 (14:08):
Right.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
You're thinking about the holiday bowl.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
I mean, why would you want to ruin your entire fall?
Why would you want to ruin it?
Speaker 6 (14:18):
As a North Carolina fan, I go into every season
optimistic and then that ball gets kicked off and I go, well,
best case scenario is we end up in the Belk Bowl.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
You'll take the bulk bowl right now it's not the.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
Bulk bowl anymore it's the duke's mayo bowl.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
I'm sorry uh so mike yeah i'm not trying to
take the game away from you i'm just saying these
games have less meaning than they've ever had that's all i'm.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Saying yeah but if you're texas or ohio state why
even schedule this game if i lose and i'm done
right why.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Would you even consider.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
It um Because you want to play somebody good?
Speaker 5 (14:56):
No, I don't.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
I'd rather go– if the situation is I lose and
I'm done, then I don't want to play anybody good.
I want to play Northwestern State, the demons, and just
play them 13 times a year.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Right, beat them 80-6 on a late field goal. They
get their sixth point.
Speaker 6 (15:14):
But what you have to be careful about in this
new era is you have Sark basically saying what Mikey said,
like last year, if we didn't play Ohio State, we
find ourselves in the playoffs. Let's go schedule cupcakes. I'm
pretty sure that's what Rutgers thought when they were scheduling UMass.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Right.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
By the way, you see, that's what UMass thought. Yes,
it was a great question by you. We love that
we have access to Spags. He's a friend of mine.
Did you see how he lit up? He didn't light
up about anything else other than your UMass question.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
He said great question. It wasn't. It was just something
he was interested in. He loved it. All right.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Taylor has college football week two tears. How do you
want to do this here, Taylor?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
What are we doing?
Speaker 6 (15:57):
First, Ricardo, I need the music.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Ah, yes, the music. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
This is Taylor's Tears on a Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
All right. Tears on a Tuesday.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Love a good drum line.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I keep saying week two. It was week one. That
week zero thing continues to throw me off. I hate it.
Get rid of it.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
So my first tier.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
We're about to find out who's who.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
This is the who's who tier. The who's who tier.
A very important tier here. We find out who's who.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
All right.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
What do you have for us?
Speaker 6 (16:23):
I have four teams in the who's who because they're
playing each other.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (16:27):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (16:27):
All right.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Kentucky with their new coach, Will Stein, playing Alabama. We're
going to find out who's who.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Kentucky had a good recruiting class. They did well in
the transfer portal. Kentucky's a sneaky good team. So you're
saying we're going to find out if Kentucky's for real,
or is that.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
A different game?
Speaker 6 (16:42):
For real, games are a bit different. This is just
more so a who's who game.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Okay, so who's who. So we're going to find out.
What are we finding out? If Alabama's good?
Speaker 6 (16:51):
We're going to find out if Alabama's good. We're going
to find out if Kenny Minchies could be this SEC
player of the year type quarterback in Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Yes, I'm sorry, Mikey.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Stu, we're going to find out who's who.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Okay, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
I don't know if you heard the name of the tier.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
My bad.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
We're going to find out who's who.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
All right, there are four teams in it. Kentucky and
Alabama are two of them. I'm sorry, Mikey.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
You are right.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Thank you for correcting me. Let's keep it moving.
Speaker 6 (17:13):
The other two teams in the who's who tier. texas
and ohio state.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Wow the game that shouldn't be played i mean.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
This is big time redemption game for archie manning.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Yeah not so sold on arch you gotta be honest.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
I mean the last half of the season he was
the best quarterback.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
In college football prove it to me i mean do
it for a whole year do it against ohio state
do it from the start of the season do it
in week two in a who's who game how about
that huh all.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
Right my next tier yeah Good loss.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Oh, the good loss tier.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Okay. I like this.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
I have a good loss.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
One team in the good loss tier from this week.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
The Louisville Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
That was a good loss. They lost to Mississippi.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
It was a close game, but you saw, we all
saw the entire country saw that Louisville is a playoff
worthy team.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
And they have a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Yes. Yes. They can sling it. Yes. Former Ohio state guy, right? Yes. Yes.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Unless Stugatz got his way and then they're already out.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
So that was the one good loss tier.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
The next tier.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
It was a good loss. As far as losses go,
it was a great loss. They showed in a loss
that they are indeed for real.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
So that was the good loss tier. The next tier
is the great loss tier. Ah, the great loss tier.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Okay. I love this. A GL. Go ahead. I guess
they're both GLs. Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
The great loss tier. The Western Michigan Broncos.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Oh, what?
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Oh, man.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
That's a great loss. Is it a great loss?
Speaker 5 (18:46):
No, that's not a great loss.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
It's a game they thought they won. They ended up
losing on a technicality. I mean, I had no idea
that we're looking at a different clock than the referees are.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
I don't know if that's a good loss.
Speaker 7 (18:58):
It's not a good loss.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
It's a great loss.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
It's a great loss. I don't know if that's a
great loss. What is that great loss going to do
for them?
Speaker 5 (19:06):
Absolutely nothing. I disagree with this tier.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
It's his tier, though.
Speaker 7 (19:12):
The next tier.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yes. Hot garbage. Michigan.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
A lot of teams in the.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Hot garbage tier.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Our most loaded category so far. I'll run through all
the teams in the hot garbage tier.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
That can't be a great loss for Western Michigan. That
would have been the biggest win in the history of
that football program. And it was taken away from them
by the referees. And no one seems to care. The
fans care more than the Western Michigan coach, AD, fan base,
and the entire team.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I'm confused by it.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
According to Heather dennich the mac is appealing the loss really.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Because it was a great loss might get flipped.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Why would you appeal it if it's a great loss though.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Because it was so great it should be a win would.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
It be a good win or a great win.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
Oh, it would be the best win in program history.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Right. Well, that's convenient. Wait, so the conference.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
I think this loss for Western Michigan is better than
any win they've ever gotten as a program.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
The Mac has issued a statement saying it is now
evident that replay protocol was not properly followed during the
Michigan game. The league has submitted formal appeals to the
NCAA FBS Oversight Committee and the CFP asking they recognize
Western Michigan as the actual winner.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Of the game. I vote yes. But here we are
playing sports in a courtroom again. I mean, it's unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Hail to the Victors was about Western Michigan.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Was it?
Speaker 6 (20:49):
Yeah, it's definitely not. It's Michigan's fight song, but it
should be hail to the victors, Western Michigan, the Broncos.
Hot garbage tier.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
Oklahoma State, Florida State, and everything that was in that
Baylor and Auburn game.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Including Wagway.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
I finished that game, and it was an exciting finish because...
You have the two-point conversion. Baylor goes for two in
the win. Lagway throws it behind him. They fall like
a half inch short. And when that game ended, I
was like, great finish, but I wish I could get
my like three hours back that I watched this game.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Yes. Put it on the poll, Taylor.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
When a ball is thrown behind a wide receiver, do
you know it's DJ Lagway playing quarterback?
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Then I have one team in my contender tier for
right now.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Just one.
Speaker 8 (21:36):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
All right.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Who do you got don't say it don't say.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Don't you dare notre dame wow okay i love this
notre dame.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
They look good in those bad uniforms they did yeah every.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
Other team i don't mention is in my jury still
out and then the final tier today the best team
these two eyes have ever laid.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Eyes on oh i know that is who's that LSU,
go Tigers. He loves them. Go Tigers. He loves them.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
One trip to Death Valley. Actually, his third, as we
learned today. And he loves the Tigers.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Roll Tigers.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
All right, let's get to do me a favor. We
have less than two minutes here. What happened there, Mikey?
Speaker 3 (22:21):
What did I do? Roll Tigers.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
You said roll Tigers.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
I don't know. I'm tired, man. I'm sorry, man. Football
started and I'm exhausted already. Go Tigers. Do me a favor.
Leave me alone. Do me a favor.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
The guy who plays golf and afterwards he's in the
parking lot and feels the need to take his golf
shoes off and clack them together to get the dirt
and the mud out.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Do me a favor. Stop doing it. You're annoying.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
We get it. We got you. You played golf. You're
a golfer. You played so well. You have to get
the mud out of your shoes and your spikes before
you go home.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Do me a favor.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
They invented a machine for that. Stop doing it and
doing it so loudly that it annoys me trying to
get a peaceful moment in the golf community's parking lot.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Enough.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Do me a favor. Knock it off.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
I'll go next.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Do me a favor. It's fantasy football season, okay?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
You don't need the whole clock to make your pick, okay?
We all know you're going to take Jameer Gibbs or
Bijan Robinson.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
You don't need 90 seconds to pick your kicker in
the last round.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Do me a favor. Speed this thing up, okay? Know
what you're going to do.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
I like that one. That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Have a plan. Be ready. Go ahead, Taylor.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
Davo Sweeney?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Do me a favor. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Quit.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Save us some time. We know how this ends. You've
won too much at Clemson to go out this sad.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
Just quit.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
All right.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
But there's $ 55 million at stake.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Just get fired.
Speaker 8 (24:05):
It's Stu Gotts and Company. Sal Licata, you're hanging out
with the boys today, and I can't wait to get going.
After yesterday, we tried to get it going, give us
some opinion there. The connection wasn't working.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
We're back.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
No, Stu, we're back. You can hear me right, right?
We're good to go?
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Yeah, I can hear you. You sound great. You are great.
You texted me yesterday after the show. bleeping embarrassment. I
knew you were going to take it home with you.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
I told you not to take it home with you.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
I'm not mad at you. Taylor is.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
We'll play what happened after you left the show yesterday
for you in just a minute, but everything went to hell.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
So thank you.
Speaker 8 (24:41):
Well, we appreciate you having me back because I wasn't
so sure. And I do want to say, Stu, I'd
be remiss if I didn't bring this up to start
the show, not to be a downer here, but it
is the 25th anniversary of September 11th and the senseless attacks. Also,
I am broadcasting live from the SMY studios, which is
at Four.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
World Trade Center.
Speaker 8 (24:58):
So, you know, an hour before the show, I'm looking
outside and I could see where the towers were and just.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
Trying to take it in.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
It's just it's hard to fathom what went on that day.
Hard to comprehend the thought process of the people that
ran up that building or those buildings and tried to
save lives. And obviously we know what happened. And then
sports eventually brought us back to some normalcy. You know, Piazza,
Home Run, all that stuff. But I just want to
make sure that people are aware that we will never
forget and honor and think of those that lost their
(25:27):
lives on that senseless day.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
It's a good job by you, Sal. I lost a
friend that day, John Salerno. It's a tough day, a
difficult day. Every year I'm thinking about it. This year
obviously resonates more for a lot of people. And there
are still people dealing, of course, and they'll be dealing
with it for the rest of their life, the aftermath
of 9-11. Whether it was first responders, whether it's, you know,
(25:51):
families of the victims, it is still something that is
haunting us until this day.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
It's crazy.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
25 years.
Speaker 8 (25:58):
Hard to believe. But we never forget. And also, we
know that sports played a part in healing, like we said,
with the country. And football in full-fledged here now. You
get two games under our belt week one. My biggest issue, Stu,
I love football. God bless football.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
All that stuff.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
I love it. But football now.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
It's like the week one, week.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
Two, even week three, it's like preseason. And yet we
get this overreaction. Like now the Rams stink. The team
that everybody had consensus, oh, nobody's beating the Rams.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Look at them.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
They're loaded, the super team.
Speaker 8 (26:28):
Now they're left for dead at the hands of the
Niners because they lost week one in Australia.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
The overreaction is nuts.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Yeah, but I love the overreaction.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
In fact, I was thinking today that Aaron Donald should
demand a trade to the 49ers. I mean, how about that?
It's what we do, Sal. There's 17 of these things.
They're so precious. They mean so much to so many people.
It's why it's our most popular sport that I'm okay
after a single game in Melbourne, Australia.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Weird pronunciation. I am okay.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
That people feel like the Rams are overrated and maybe saying, hey,
you know what? I didn't know the Niners are going
to be that good. You know, I'm all right with that.
Speaker 8 (27:07):
OK, I love reacting to week one. And obviously the
games mean something. But, you know, the way that preseason
is basically non-existent now.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
You can see it.
Speaker 7 (27:17):
I mean, I thought McCaffrey was hurt last night.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Where is he?
Speaker 7 (27:20):
They're going with the backup running back. Where is he?
Speaker 8 (27:22):
It's because it's essentially a preseason game. So the teams themselves,
we as broadcasters or whatever you want to call us,
sports talk guys, talking heads, we're trying to come up
with opinions and give reaction and all this stuff. And
we could say, well, it doesn't feel right. Because of
the way the preseason used to be compared to where
it is now. It doesn't feel like they've got to
(27:43):
take time to get going. We don't know what these
teams are. But for them themselves to be figuring it
out early on, that is telling.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
I do think that there is.
Speaker 8 (27:50):
An evaluation that takes place, even though it means something
and we all love it.
Speaker 7 (27:55):
The first three or four weeks is kind of evaluating.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
That flight to Australia looked like it aged Matthew Stafford
a decade. Sal, I know you don't want the hot.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Takes right now.
Speaker 6 (28:06):
If you told Sean McVay he could replace Matthew Stafford
today with Josh Allen, but he had to walk to Buffalo,
how fast do you guys think he would get there?
Speaker 7 (28:13):
You're talking about Josh Allen. What about Brock Purdy or
Sam Donald?
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Oh, he'd do that today.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
I mean, I'm telling you right now, I know you
hate the overreaction, but if Sean McVay, if he was
being honest, okay, in an honest moment— And they asked him, hey,
you could have Purdy the rest of the way or
Matthew Stafford the rest of the way.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
He would say Brock Purdy or he'd be lying. Okay.
How about that?
Speaker 7 (28:37):
You guys are out on the Rams already and Stafford already?
Speaker 8 (28:40):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
I can't.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
I can't.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
I think the Niners are good, but I can't say
I can't say I'm going to be just same thing.
Speaker 7 (28:49):
Drake Mays like Drake May gets ripped. He played a
bad game. Hey, guess what?
Speaker 5 (28:52):
It happens.
Speaker 8 (28:53):
You'd rather have it happen in week one than week
16 or 17. So I and now it's the same thing.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
All Rams. Everybody loved them. Miles Garrett stinks.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
I was not aware of the knee injury, by the way.
He was an MIA and now he's using the knee
injury as an excuse.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
I hate that.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
I think both teams that lost so far, whether it
be the Patriots or the Rams.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
Still are going to be very, very good this year.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
But Sal, don't you want like this is the NFL
is built for sports fans. It's built for people like
me and you. OK, you can't break down 162 baseball games.
because most of those baseball games are fairly meaningless in
the grand scheme of things. You can't do it in
the NBA with 82 NBA game. You just can't do it.
And you're certainly not going to do it in hockey.
(29:39):
Don't you want fans to be so passionate about something?
And this is the sport they're passionate about because there
are 17 games. They all mean so much. They are
so precious. Again, you're only playing 17. You need to
win as many as you can to get to the playoffs.
And I love that fans are irrational, but they're passionate
about about the NFL, meaning I have fired a Jets
(30:02):
coach and hired back that same Jet coach in a quarter.
I have gotten rid of my quarterback, and the next
week my quarterback is the greatest quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
I think that's what makes the league so magical. I
really do. I guess.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
So then don't– the irrational– and look, fans are irrational.
Certainly I know that.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
I am one.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
But I'm trying to remain level-headed, especially– with the NFL
being what it is in the early weeks.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Like, I don't know. I mean, really, nobody knows. But
you could pick teams.
Speaker 8 (30:34):
And think, oh, this team's going to the Super Bowl
or I love this team in the division. I really
need to watch three weeks before I can say, okay,
this is it. Where I used to be able to
do what I felt, at least, in preseason because you
get a little bit better feel. There's a great unknown.
It's names on paper that we haven't seen, literally have
not seen. Wait, name of the stars who played in
the preseason.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
It doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
They barely play. Right, it doesn't. Yeah, no, I understand.
Speaker 8 (30:57):
That's my point. Look, obviously I love when fans react
to everything. I just, me personally, if I believe the
Rams are good or the Patriots are going to be good,
I don't think I'd be jumping off the bandwagon after
one game.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
And it's the first time that we've seen them play
all year long.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Mikey, how do you feel about Sal? Level-headed Sal, okay?
Not overreacting. Wanting to take three games before he formulates
any sort of NFL takes.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
How do you feel about it?
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Thank you, Sal. I've missed you. I've been with these
two hot take artists. I've been trying to be the
only level-headed person. They've convinced me I'm crazy.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
And now you come in and you spit all this logic.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
And you know what? It's refreshing. Thank you.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
Here's what I will say. Mikey, you guys are listening
to this on the radio. You can't see it on Zoom.
He's decked out in Jet stuff. Definitively, before I see
them play a game, the Jets are going to suck
this year.
Speaker 7 (31:47):
Like, that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
He doesn't need to wait three weeks. He knows.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
We all know that one.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
I told you that three years ago, they were going
to suck tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
By the way, your miles Garrett point is such a great,
great point because if he had three sacks, we'd be
hearing nothing today about him being injured. The idea that
he goes out there, goes to Melbourne, Australia. He's the
big off season signing. Everyone loves the Rams Rams of
the field. And he does nothing. I mean, zero gives
you absolutely nothing and comes out after the game and says, hey,
(32:21):
I'm injured. Do me a favor. Say it before the
game or don't say it at all. How about that?
Speaker 8 (32:26):
Not once did I hear any. Now, I could have
missed it. But the buildup to the season was.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
Rams, Rams, Rams, Rams, Rams, Donald Garrett, Donald Garrett. They're
going to be the best defense ever.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Oh, my God. Look out.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
Purdy's going to be scared for his life. He's going
to be murdered on the field on Wednesday. And is
it Melbourne or you say Melbourne?
Speaker 3 (32:45):
How do you say it? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Well, I thought it was Melbourne when we started today,
but it's Mel-bin, and that is courtesy of Noah Eagle.
Speaker 6 (32:51):
Yeah, so the Australian pronunciation, Sal, is Mel-bin.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
Mel-bin, okay.
Speaker 8 (32:57):
Well, they thought Purdy was going to be murdered in Mel-bin,
and then all of a sudden after the game, it's like,
now my knee was a little.
Speaker 7 (33:04):
Bit banged up.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Not once did anybody report that ever in the last
several months.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Not once. Yes, right.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
So you have to do it on the front end.
You have to say, hey, I'm not 100%.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Otherwise, I don't believe you.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
You cannot put up a dud like Miles Garrett put
up in his first game and then come out after
the game and say, hey.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
I'm injured. You're cracking up the excuse machine. Can't do it.
Don't do it. He did it. And he should be
ashamed of himself.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
Sal, you mentioned people getting off the Rams and the
Patriots bandwagons right now. And I have this stat from
OptiStats that kind of highlights their underperforming. This is the
first time in NFL history the top two finishers in
the MVP voting the previous season. each had a team
that scored 10 or fewer points in the season opener
with Drake May and Matthew Stafford. So it is historical
(33:49):
how bad these two played in a week one showing.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
All right, so what does that mean? Does it mean
that Drake May stinks now? Explain that stat. I'm not
a stats guy, Taylor. You should know that.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Explain what those stats mean. And that's exactly my point.
I love that you said that. Ooh, big fancy AI
stat machine saying that Drake May and Stafford awful after
where they were a year ago. OK, so now are
we to think that those guys aren't going to be good?
I'll go the opposite. Week two, sign me up. Drake May,
Matthew Stafford, they're going to have monster games.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
Well, the problem with Drake May was this was Drake
May's chance to kind of silence the narrative that that
he was a schedule merchant when you're going on the
road to Seattle and. Against that defense, it was the
same story for Drake May, where the same questions you
have about Drake May after the Super Bowl, you still
have after week one.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Can I ask you guys what this stat machine looks like?
I mean, it's like the George Michael sports machine. It
just churns out stats. That's a dated reference. I'm sorry
if you were born anywhere within the last 20 years.
You have no idea what I'm talking about. But once
upon a time, there was a guy who was doing
it before SportsCenter. George Michaels was giving you all the
(35:02):
highlights and doing it with a robot.
Speaker 8 (35:05):
Right, way ahead of his time with the AI. I
remember that, that sports machine. Okay, but what do those
stats mean, ultimately? It's great to— oh, what are you insinuating
when you bring up those stats? Or somebody who puts
that out there, are we— okay, Drake May's no good?
Speaker 7 (35:19):
Like, is that where we're at?
Speaker 8 (35:20):
I think it's fair to say the jury's still out,
but then it goes to the overreaction last year where
it's like, I mean, certainly New England fans are talking about, oh,
who needs Tom Brady?
Speaker 7 (35:28):
You got Drake May. I mean— It's going to be May.
Everybody was going nuts. Drake May.
Speaker 8 (35:33):
So there's got to be somewhere in between where maybe
he's not Tom Brady, but maybe also he doesn't suck
after one questionable game in which his receiver can't even
catch a ball. If he catches that ball, Dubs, the whole.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Game has changed.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yeah, but what the stat means is what we're seeing,
at least through the first two games here, is something
fairly unprecedented.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
That's all the stat has got to say. This doesn't
normally happen. That's all.
Speaker 7 (35:56):
Let me ask you, Stu.
Speaker 8 (35:58):
Don't you think that that is a byproduct of where
we're at with the preseason?
Speaker 7 (36:03):
Like, back to my point about that before where— It's
it's week one.
Speaker 8 (36:07):
We love it to mean everything because the games are
there aren't that many games. But there also is a
little bit of a learning curve and feeling it out
like they literally have not played full NFL games, real
contact games. This is the first one where they used
to at least play one in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
If you're asking me, do I think if the Rams
are going to be good, even while losing the first
the first game of the season and what I think
of the Niners? I have the Rams now not making
the playoffs, and the Niners are the favorites to make
it to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Look at us doing sports radio, fellas. This is exciting.
We're not playing sounds. We are talking sports.
Speaker 7 (36:43):
You tried to teach me out of that way. And
I'm like, you know what? After we had talks, I'm like,
he's right. What are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Volpe stinks.
Speaker 7 (36:51):
Stafford stinks.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
May stinks.
Speaker 7 (36:52):
And then next week, May is up MVP.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Come on.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
I know, but I wanted you to drive the show today.
Because you got disconnected. You were very upset. You couldn't
get any takes off yesterday. Whatever take she got off,
they sounded terrible. And so I wanted you to drive
the show so you could control the.
Speaker 8 (37:10):
Action today, you know? Okay, I have another take for you.
The nonsense about the Sean McVay planning to go to Melbourne.
Speaker 7 (37:20):
I can't even say it. Australia.
Speaker 8 (37:21):
Planning to go to Australia just two days ahead of time.
I'm like, do you think that that cost them the game?
Or maybe just the Rams were not as good as
the 49ers on this particular day. I don't think the
sleeping habits or the clock– Or whatever, the travel, jet lag.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
So what?
Speaker 7 (37:37):
The Niners were there for two weeks. To me, that
had nothing to do with it.
Speaker 8 (37:40):
Even with the 17-0 outscoring in the second half, I
don't think that that had anything to do with it.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
It's interesting because a lot of people are kind of
pointing that out. The Rams went to Europe last year,
same strategy.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
They flew in. They hopped off the bird. They played
the game.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
They won the game, got back on the bird, and
went home.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Now, Australia is a different animal, okay?
Speaker 1 (38:03):
You're going to Europe, it's a six or seven, well,
I guess from LA it's a bit further, but you're
not going 22 hours with a 38-year-old quarterback who can't
just hop off a plane after 22 hours, play a
football game and get back on a bird and go home.
That was obvious last night. So I don't know if
the Rams did it the right way, the wrong way.
(38:23):
I just know that people are going to point to
it because San Francisco, the team that got there a
week to 10 days in advance, They looked very, very sharp.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
They did. They looked very good.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
And so naturally, the next day, people are going to
point out, hey, the Rams didn't do it correctly and
the Rams didn't take this game seriously. And I think
that's what people are upset about.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
By doing that, though, it feels like we're discrediting what
the 49ers did because I think that game could have
been played in any country, in any stadium, and you
were going to get the same result of the 49ers
just overwhelming L.A.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Well, hold on, Taylor.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
If that game's played in SoFi, you think you're getting
the same result?
Speaker 6 (38:56):
Almost any stadium.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Got you.
Speaker 8 (39:03):
I'm more so with Taylor on that, that I think
it is discrediting the Niners.
Speaker 7 (39:07):
Like, okay, so who do we think is the worst
team in the.
Speaker 8 (39:10):
NFL or going to be the worst team in the NFL?
I'm not just going to say the Jets.
Speaker 7 (39:14):
Who do we think? The Browns.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Browns, Cardinals. Dolphins. Dolphins.
Speaker 8 (39:19):
If the Browns played the Rams or the Niners in Australia—
And the Browns got there two months before. And the
Rams showed up the day before.
Speaker 7 (39:30):
Of the game. Like, the Rams probably still would have
beat them.
Speaker 8 (39:33):
I know that anything could happen any given Sunday, but
my point is I don't think it's about– that's a weird–
same thing with the West Coast coming east.
Speaker 7 (39:40):
Like, come on. It's a bunch of nonsense.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
No, I understand that.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
But how do you explain the Rams, who are so explosive,
who are so good– even without Aaron Donald, playing that badly,
like that poorly.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
They had the entire offseason to get ready for this game.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
They sent Todd from accounting over to Australia to figure
out what's the right amount of time to spend in
Australia before you play a football game, and Todd was wrong.
So how do you explain it, Sal? Because that team,
I would guess, that's the worst game that team is
going to play this year.
Speaker 8 (40:11):
I would say that it's honestly rust. I really think
that it's just first game, rust, good team. Now, we'll
learn about them eventually.
Speaker 7 (40:20):
Could this be a harbinger the rest of the year?
Speaker 8 (40:22):
I mean, are the Rams even– maybe things that happen
in week one are going to be signs the rest
of the way. I don't believe that that's going to
be the case, especially with a team that's as well-coached
as the Rams are and as loaded as they are now.
Speaker 7 (40:33):
Could Stafford fall off the cliff and be an older guy?
Speaker 8 (40:35):
That absolutely, I think, could be a legitimate reason– to
doubt them but for them playing as poorly as they
did with the weapons that they have i just look
at it as a they played a really good team
who was maybe just more ready at this particular moment
and maybe the rams are going to take a little
time to get going.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
By the way if you're a rams fan you hope
they didn't do it correctly you hope that matthew stafford
isn't just aging you hope that it was the plane
it was the 22 hours it was the fact they
didn't get there a week before because if stafford's gonna
look like that they don't have a shot what do
you got mikey.
Speaker 5 (41:08):
Is Todd from accounting fired today?
Speaker 3 (41:10):
He should be.
Speaker 5 (41:13):
He should be.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
No, McVay should be. I mean, stop sending Todd from accounting.
How about you go and figure it out?
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Todd from accounting had one job to do, and that
was how long do we need to be in Australia
to beat the 49ers?
Speaker 5 (41:27):
And he failed.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
So you're saying Todd called McVay and said, hey, you
guys can hop on a bird, land, play football, get back.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
On the bird and go home.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
That was Todd's report back to Les Snead and Sean McVay, yes?
Speaker 5 (41:41):
That's exactly what happened.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Then he's been fired, yes.
Speaker 7 (41:44):
They should have used more AI. I mean, come on.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
By the way, is anyone else worried about AI? I mean,
you hear all these reports. I'm watching the news last night.
It's like I'm living in a movie, for crying out loud,
where AI is going to kill everyone inside of a decade.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
What are we doing?
Speaker 5 (42:01):
ChatGPT says we shouldn't be worried.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
Exactly.
Speaker 8 (42:06):
I started reading some Twitter threads yesterday on that, and
I was like, I don't.
Speaker 7 (42:10):
Think this is going to be good for my mental health.
Let me stop this. So, yeah, I'm scared.
Speaker 8 (42:16):
But realistically, are humans really dumb enough to create something
that would wipe us all off the face.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
Of the earth?
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
I'm wearing a Jets hat.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
Yes. Yes.
Speaker 5 (42:25):
They're dumb enough.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
Especially if it's lining their pockets.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Hey, I'm going to enjoy the next decade, and I
don't care what happens after that.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
But for the next 10 years, man, I am living large. Oh,
my God.
Speaker 7 (42:40):
The AI stuff.
Speaker 8 (42:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (42:41):
Less AI, more reality. And more real football in the preseason.
Get us ready for week one. Less overreacting as well.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
All right.
Speaker 7 (42:49):
Did we do enough takes there still? Am I okay
so far?
Speaker 3 (42:53):
You're doing great.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
Never enough takes. I want to play some sound from
Taylor when we come back. 877-99 on Fox. That is
877-99 on Fox. Sal is in for the entire show.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
We are thrilled about it. We love him.
