Speaker 2 (00:24):
This is the best of the Ben Mahler Show on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Our lead this hour, though, is from not far away
from Marcel in Brooklyn, the metropolitans that say baseball team
not a good one.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
They kicked off the post All Stars.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Stretch with a win over the Fighting Fills in the
beginning of the second half. Now what I love about
this is the game baseball. The marketing geniuses, the same
marketing geniuses that for some reason thought Will Ferrell should
pop up with the home run derby for no reason
and they needed eight thousand distractions at the All Star Game.

(01:04):
These geniuses said, you know, we're gonna have a showcase
game because there's nothing the men, women, and children of
American sport fandom need. Then to watch the Mets in
an island game, And this was an Island game.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It's just hilarious. They complete.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
It's like when they schedule Monday Night Football, Thursday night football,
you know, before the year, and they don't early in
the other on flex and then you get a dog
food game. You get a dog food game like week
six or seven.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
It's just terrible.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
This is the Phillies aren't bad. The Mets are terrible Mets,
so they won. Who cares? The better story though, is
at the flea market and not if you were following
that or not, maybe not. We've learned that the Metropolitans
are reportedly willing. They are willing to listen to trade
offers for Francisco Lindaharr. However, there's a catch. You gotta

(01:55):
read the five print the Madusha only if another team
is prepared to meet extraordinarily high ask kicking price for
their shortstop. Now, the big catch is also the contract.
It's a humdinger of a contract for Lindor. He's owed
a significant amount of money over the long haul and

(02:17):
the Komodo dragon in the room. Lindor also possesses a
full no trade clause, which means no trade protection. He's
a ten to five guy and all that he's the
no trade thing, but meaning that he would have to
approve any deal himself, he'd have to sign off on it.
So that is a good jumping off point. Let us
discuss the question, what are the chances that Francisco Lindor

(02:44):
gets traded.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
By the match?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
The deadline's coming up here in early August, as we
sit here in the middle of July. So my thoughts,
I've got sweet baby rays, barbecue sauce one percenter, and
Dean Martin and those are three things that have ever
been combined together. But we're gonna do that, and we're
gonna make a dirty water dog. A dirty water dog

(03:06):
is what we're gonna make a Right now, when you
ask a question, what are the chances that Lindor gets traded,
we have to fire up the Mallard trade o meter.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
The Mallard trade o.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Meter has been activated. We're gonna set the Malards on
this at plus three seventy five. Now, that implies a
twenty one percent chance, all right, twenty one percent chance, which, oh,
by the way, that two ten chance is also the
it just as a quinkie dink it's Lindor's current abysmal
batting average. For the match to ten, so twenty one percent.

(03:39):
He's got the three Musketeers working against him. Bad attitude,
bloated contract, and he's at the tail end of his prime.
Good afternoon, good evening, and good night. The vibe right
now from Lindor. He's the coworker who's got a lot
to say, a lot of complaints at the office about meetings. However,

(04:01):
never seems to show up prepared. There's always something a
little off with Lindor. Now another question, who would even
consider a deal for Francisco Lindor at this particular point.
So using the time tested process of elimination a number

(04:22):
of teams to get rid of one of the teams
that you wouldn't normally get rid of, you wouldn't in
this case. And I circled, and I did this on
my notes app but I circled Cleveland and SAI, Well,
there's no way. Yeah, the Guardians are a bunch of tightwads.
I get that a Lindor played there b the Guardians
if they can get the Mets to eat some cash.

(04:44):
Big If that's his original team. He was a star.
His coming of age story was in Cleveland as a
star player in baseball, and their competitive American League is
wide open. There's no great team in the American League.
They are very conservative. It's rathermbarrassing. They're named after a
bridge because of you Wokesters, and so a reunion would

(05:05):
provide a nice boost for the team formerly known as
the Cleveland Indians. Then there are the Blue Jays all coda,
disappointing season. They clearly have needs. They lost Bulbushett, they
didn't really replace him, and so there's some needs on
the infield, and they would like to have a nice
shiny upgrade at shortstop there. I am told in Toronto,

(05:28):
how about the Yankees? Now, that would have little razzle dazzle.
And if the Mets are convincedland Door blows, send him
over to the Bronx crosstown rivalry, right, send him on
the Cross Bronx Expressway. Send him over there, massive buzz.
We all know Anthony Volpi has been flat out bad.
How bad is He's so bad? He was at the
game when I threw out the first pitch of the

(05:48):
Wusox game playing for Scranton Wilkesbury in Triple A. That's
how bad he is. And then you've got the Diamondbacks.
They love swallowing bad contracts, although they don't. How about
Nolan Aronato, they picked him up. He's average, he stinks.
So anyway, there's options. And by the way, let me
point out Ken Rosenthal, baseball insider. Remember a couple of

(06:10):
weeks ago he said he did not believe the Mike
Francessa inspired trade rumors about Francisco Indoor because in the
wisdom of Rosenthal, it didn't come from the Beat writers
in quotes. I guess now it's in place, So the
Pope was right. Francessa was right. As I surmised Francessa,

(06:31):
he's buddies with a lot of rich people in New
York who Wall Street types, who hang out with other
Wall Street types.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
The guy that owns the Mets as a Wall Street type, so.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
It's more likely than not he's got pretty good sourcing
when he's tossing that out. So good luck to Kenny Rosenthal.
I recommend some sweet baby raised barbecue sauce for the
HOGI of crow, maybe some onions on that little bell pepper.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
And enjoy your crow sandwich.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
And just the fact that the Mets are now even
entertaining offers for Lindor that is a drastic sea.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Change for the Mets.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Here that's a one eighty organizational reset. Is it on
the horizon, stay tuned, developing hot dot dot dot one
thing that is not developing hot at all?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
That would be the report card or what are you
talking about? The report card?

Speaker 4 (07:24):
What you're doing?

Speaker 1 (07:25):
That would be from the home run Derby. The All
Star Game did very well. It was on Fox. And
you watched the twenty twenty six home run Derby on
Netflix averages five point three million viewers, And he said, well,
that seems like a decent number. Well, there's like three
hundred million people in America, but that is the least
watched home run Derby in a generation. You got to

(07:47):
go back to over twenty years ago, in the early
two thousands, the last time the home run Derby did
this poorly. The Derby this year first time since nineteen
ninety four that it was not televised by the small
cable channel out of Bristol, Connecticut. It's all part of
this new multi year agreement with Netflix and Major League Baseball.

(08:09):
They lost roughly four hundred thousand viewer.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Oh no, but it was that four hundred thousand.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
It was a number I looked at four hundred thousand
viewers from last year, despite the fact that they were
on a seemingly bigger platform.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
There was a lot of promotion for the home run Derby.
It's streaming debut question.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
The MLB Home Run Derby on Netflix had its worst
rating in a generation. Is this major, minor or meaningless?
So for Baseball it's meaningless because they've already got their money.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
It's not great.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
For Netflix, it's major embarrassing, despite blowing tons of cash
and bringing in a guy that makes you flip the
channel off. Barry Bonds, just a complete a hole, and
Albert poolhost who's not very entertaining. They pulled nineteen nineties
public access cable TV ratings. If you remember, if you're

(09:12):
old enough to remember, the east of these things called
public access, which is kind of like YouTube. It was
just on cable television. The actual contest was a classic.
That's the thing that's really kicked to the nuts. It
was really good the Cardinals Jordan Walker upset the hometown
hero Kyle Schwarber. And it's too bad. The amateur hour
broadcast completely sucked at a time you cannot suck. For Netflix,

(09:35):
we got awful camera angles, basic stats that even non
nerds like did not make the graphics on the TV.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
There was the.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Cringeworthy Will Ferrell comedy routine that distracted from everything and
Major League Baseball trying to look cool. They wanna be hip,
they want to be with the cool kids. However, they
ended up looking like the embarrassing old uncle who gets
on TikTok, like what are you doing to?

Speaker 3 (10:04):
You're too old for that?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
And sure the spin doctors claim that this is the
spin from baseball. Well, they got a lot of younger viewers,
younger demo. However, that did not offset losing was it
ten percent.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Of their audience year to year?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
And if Apple sold Let me ask you, if Apple
sold ten percent fewer iPhones, how would that affect the
price of the stock.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
I think it would crater. I think it would go down.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
And Major leagu Basketball's home run Derby the good news
for Baseball when it comes to their relationship with Netflix.
The home run Derby is truly a one percenter, meaning
they drew about one point six percent of the total
Netflix global audience.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Here's that Netflix is on.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
They have three hundred and twenty five million global paid subscribers.
Do some math on that, what's the cheapest price for
Netflix three hundred and twenty five million global paid subscribers,
and the home run Derby drew five point three million,
So that means there were roughly roughly another nineteen three

(11:17):
hundred nineteen million other people who had Netflix had access
to Netflix and had no interest in watching the home
run Derby. So you can't call it a new era
when the audience is sprinting the opposite direction. So if
this is the streaming innovation, give me back.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
To the old barring stuff we had before.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Not a great start, not a great So you combine
that with that joke of a first Netflix broadcast between
the Yankees and the Giants with all.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Kinds of dumb d dumb dumb dumb bits not looking
so good.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
That's this whole crossover thing not really resonating with the
base who are the core of the broadcast. Now, last word,
we transitioned from baseball, We go across the way to
the land of Lebron. Cannot go more than ten minutes
without mentioning.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
The name Lebron.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
So Lebron James made his first public appearance since he
announced he was quitting the Lakers, and he announced. Did
you hear the big announcement you did? Yeah, you're a liar.
He didn't announce anything. He refused to reveal his next team.

(12:35):
And he was at that fanatics fest where they price
gouge you there in New York and when asked if
there was a decision that was still to be made,
Lebron doing some cheeseball podcast for friends and family said
immediately he shut it down, said that he had already
agreed to not discuss it. Now, I love I don't
do interviews anymore because these guys are so terrible. When

(12:57):
I used to do interviews, though, I always love when
I get a memo from some pr hack.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Well he's willing to go on with you, but he
won't talk about this. Well, that's the only thing we
want to talk about. Well he doesn't want to talk
about Well, why is he doing the interview? Well he
won't do the interview.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Fine, don't do the interview, jack ass, your dumb jackwagon.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
What's wrong with you?

Speaker 1 (13:16):
It's so stupid, like you who cared Lebron. You've been
doing this your entire life. You can get asked a
tough question, you can't dodge the question. Y'all, I'm not
talking about that. I am not doing that really, okay,
all right, wonderful Now. Lebron did tease the fact of
what's ahead, saying he's looking forward to what unfolds next

(13:38):
and that it's going to be pretty fun wherever he lands,
emphasizing he's entering the final stage of his NBA career
more than that later. Lebron also acknowledging that he won't
keep everyone waiting forever, just close to forever, saying I
won't hold you guys up.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Too much longer.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Thank god, Lebron. Course, it don't really matter to me.
I got a show to do with it.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
You sign tomorrow, You could go sign with a team
in China. I gotta still do the show. Lebron declined
to say any timeline or hints about his next destination,
so quickly the question why is Lebron James taking so long?
So long to decide his next NBA landing spot? So
this is simple, all right, This is peak Lebron theater.

(14:23):
The man runs these offseason clinics like he's at residency
at Caesar's Palace in Vegas, back when they used to
have free parking and took care of the people that gamble,
not anymore, of course, because they don't do that. But
they're turning free agency into a bloated Marvel sequel, a
lot of ego and some just boring storylines that Lebron

(14:46):
has mastered. If he was a baseball player, they checked
me out. Jog around the bas is the only cardio
powered entirely by ego. And we know that Lebron from
years past loves the public courtship, basking in the love
notes and the chocolates and the free drinks and from
those desperate executives. And there's no speed dating with Lebron.

(15:08):
He wants to be whined and dying. Someone just hand
him a bottle and crank up. Dean Martin's that samar He.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Wants the love I wants it.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
He's a total Lebron an energy vampire, and he leaves
these front office executives emotionally and mentally depleted. Well, he
picks a team that compliments him the most for how
he looks on his different angles on Instagram. And so
it's supposedly a three horse race between the Cadavers, the Heatles,

(15:39):
and the Sixers, with the Warriors coming up on the
outside until he decides, Uh, We'll just keep living our lives,
because what else are we going to do? The NBA
waiting around Lebron is simply waiting for that dopamine hit
to kick in. He wants give me the dopamine. I
need the dopamine. Okay, calm down.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Be sure to.

Speaker 2 (15:59):

Are lead this hour from Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami,
and that.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Is where the welcoming party greeted the big star known
as the Greek freak. He was welcome with open arms
there in South Forida. If you saw any of this
or heard about it, perhaps not never missed an introductory
news convers These things are like pep rowley, They are pepperrolli,
so Jannis identikomb. He had a lot to say, he said,

(17:03):
among other things, he joined the heat, he said, because
he wanted to leave his comfort zone.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
He said, join the.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Heat required leaving his It is a happy place, he implied,
happy place there, describing the move at this point in
his career is a necessary step to keep growing professionally
and personally after thirteen seasons in the land of the
Cheese Kurds. There in Wisconsin, in the greater Milwaukee area.

(17:32):
He emphasized that chasing greatness, he said, sometimes means embracing uncertainty.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
He made it clear that he.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Views the transac shon as a challenge rather than simply
a change of scenery. Okay, so that is a good
jumping off point. Let us discuss the question for the panel,
the Blue Ribbon Panel. You're part of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Giannis Adenta Coombo says he is leaving his comfort.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Zone, and that playing with the heat is going to
be a challenge. How do you poke holes in this?
I poke some holes in this.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
I got fork fast and furious and swizzle, And we'll
combine all of these things together, and we are going
to go out and play in those white, sandy beaches,
in the beautiful turquoise waters of South Beach.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
That's what we're gonna do. But before we do that,
we always say.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Number number one, number one, number one, number one.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Oh what fun?

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Number one?

Speaker 1 (18:34):
It's number one, Okay, So let's start with this. His argument,
Yannis ident to Coobo's argument, is like a fishing net.
There's a lot of holes in a fishing net, right,
there's a holes in it. And speaking of fishing, you
can also do that year round in South Florida without
having to dress like an eskimo. Now, there is no

(18:57):
ice fishing in South Florida, but you can enjoy the
weather there. This is the classic tired athlete trope. I
am challenging myself while picking one of the easiest possible
landing spots. Gotta love it, gotta love it now. Yannis
talked about a comfort zone. I talked about the whole

(19:19):
comfort zone. Leaving his comfort zone, and so he's relocating.
He got the old U haul and he's relocating from
a walk in freezer to a beach front cabana.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Is what he's doing now. In February.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
The average temperature in February in Milwaukee is thirty three degrees, right,
thirty three degrees. You know what the average temperature in
Miami is. Yeah, it's it's thirty five. You no, it's
seventy eight. So that is not discomfort. That is a
forty five degree improvement. That's the SPA package with the

(19:58):
manny and the petty is what that is there, and
it sounds pretty comfortable to me. Now, Yannis did not
leave Milwaukee.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
He escaped. This has been going on for several years.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
We have been documenting it audi audio commentary here every night.
And when we've talked about Giannis, there have been these
little signs just chipping away.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Chip chip chip chip chip chip chip chip chip, just
like Shawshank redemption.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
And as for the challenge, right, you gotta be a
app slute, income poop, a sucker to buy this.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Oh it's a child, you know, it's a challenge. Are
you at the fork in the road? Okay?

Speaker 1 (20:38):
At the fork in the road, Yannis picked the path
of least resistance, not that the Miami Heat were a
heavyweight team, because they were not the only real challenge
though in Miami.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Is choosing between the sunscreen SPF.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Levels, Like, what do you want to do? I don't know,
I don't know, thirty five. I should probably go higher
than that. Okay, I'll go a little higher than that.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I don't know what I'm doing. He hand picked the.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Quote Heat Culture close quote where Eric Spolstra is the
ultimate supposed cheat code.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Just to ask him, he'll tell you.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Yannis basically selected a team with built in bumpers and
a bowling lane, and the actual challenge would have been
to stay in Wisconsin. That would have been the hard
road to take. The Bucks won a championship because some
guys got hurt and they were able to win.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
That's great. Things are not particularly well. The Bucks went
for it.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
They got the player that Jannis wanted in Damian Lillard.
That didn't work out, Snap Crackle Pop. Now Lillard's back
with the Trailblazers and Yannis is kind of hanging, hanging
and all that, and if he had stayed there, that
would have been the challenge, all right, put the bucks
on your back and gallop into the winning circle again.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Instead, he chose the Wizard.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Of oz Lie Yellow Brick Road, skipping along the yellow
brick Road. We're off to see the Wizard. We're off
to see the Wizard. Pat Riley and friends. Yeah, Ryles,
all right, now, pitched too. As for the wide angle lens,
the wide angle lens.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Okay, So we've got a lot of.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Time for basketball season, so I'm sure we'll revisit this.
But I have a show to do today. So Jannis
a dent to Cumbo is expected to form. This is
what all the geniuses tell me, one of the premier
duos in professional basketball, with Bam out of Bayo, who
had the most bogus eighty something point game of all time. Instantly,

(22:41):
this is expected to elevate, elevate Miami into the championship
conversation that they're a heavyweight team now in the East
with Giannis and Bam out of Bayo.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Now, let's just assume the position that Lebron.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Does not go to Miami, and it's still in play.
We're doing the show right now. As of right now,
Lebron is not with the heat.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
He's not part of.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
The equation, so put him off the side. The question,
is there any way the dynamic duo of the Greek
creak and Bam Bam do not succeed with the heat.
So is there any way this does not work? Because
you're all telling me, man, this is so good. It's
like peanut butter and jelly, the Greek freaking bam.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
So is there a way it doesn't succeed? Absolutely? It's
called the multiverse.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Now for you casuals, you all think, well, you're Honesta
Denta Coombo, big name multi time MVP, Bam out of
Bio's got some good fantasy numbers in Miami, and that
front court there is an instant title favorite. Just add
just add some water and it's all rainbows, lollipops and
just a tremendous defensive tandem there for the heat and

(23:58):
man they're loaded, but not so fast, my friend, No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Because if this dynamic duo.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Fails, it'll be the most predictable plot twist since a
Fast and Furious movie. You feel me on that, Like
it's a great idea on a tablet. You look at
the tablet, you're like, well, yeah, that looks good playing
a video game, and then you realize the tablet and
the video game does not have five defenders packing in

(24:25):
the paint. Everyone's treating Yannis and Bam like this blessed marriage.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
However, it's actually two people who are fighting over the.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Same side of the bed. They both like the right
side of it. Well, I want the right, Well you
can't have the right. I have the right. Well, no,
I'm honest, I want the right. Well no, I'm Bam.
I was here first. Then pat Riley loves me. He
licks my toes, so I get to have the right side.
Well no, but I'm honest. I've won the MVP woord
a couple of times. No, no, but I'm I'm the
chosen one. I'm the favorite son of the Miami Heat.
So I'm Bam out of Bio and I get the
right of it. But no, I'm honest, I want the right.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
So there you go. They're fighting over the right side
of the bed. And they're both.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Non shooter who if you look at the way they've
played in their careers, they dominate the painted area. Neither
won a really great outside shooter, and so without elite
spacing meeting the players.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Around them on the Heat.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Unless you think Tim Hardaway Junior is going to be
the secret sauce there. You figure going in, teams are
gonna dare Giannis and Bam to beat them from the outside.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
They're gonna clog the lane.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
And that's what I would do, and I'm never wrong
about these things, and leave the half court offense looking
like toxic bleach and ammonia mixture. And you get all
bogged down there and disheveled if you can't hit the
outside shot you throw in Giannis's recent knee boo booze.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
He set some issues there. And so this master.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Plan, the blueprint, it's just one cramped lane away from
being dysfunction junction.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
What's your function? Right? Final point.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
So one of the other highlights, I did not see
this live. I woke up watched it on the YouTube.
So during the Heat's introductory press conference, giannisident to Koombo
was welcome.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
We talked about that already.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Pat Riley was there and at one moment which got
a lot of traction, pat Riley, the president of the
Miami Heat, praised Bam out of Baio's loyalty joking.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
He said, quote, I don't want to get kicked out
or knocked out, rather knocked out.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
I don't only get knocked out, he said, referring to
BAM's altercation there with the player that was traded for
Giannis Tyler Hero, who's currently with the Milwaukee Bucks. The
joke was obviously it was interpretated many different ways. It
was most said, well, that's a parting shot at Tyler
Hero and Riley doing his thing there who was sent

(26:50):
to Wisconsin. And there was that back and forth. They
got into it in Viva Las Vegas Tyler Hero and
bam At of Bayo. So the altercation at a practice
event stemmed from social media comments criticizing bab Adabio Tyler Hero.

(27:10):
There was some DMS and some other things that said
that he was essentially the teacher's pet, the preferred choice
of pat Riley, got preferential treatment and the value the
money thing and how they made sure that heat to
keep him around, gave him the contract and some of
these other guys they shopped them every year. So that

(27:30):
led to a eyeball to eyeball, nose to nose, shoulders
shoulder confrontation where bam Adebio went Bam Bam and I
suppose he struck Tyler Hero. Now these social media critics,
Riley actually getting some criticism. Ryle's saying that it was

(27:53):
not classy, it's unprofessional to take a cheap shot. Even
though he was praising out of Bio, it was perceived
is a cheap shot at his former player Tyler Hero. Question,
was this pat Riley praise of Bam out of Bio
a jab at Tyler heroes?

Speaker 3 (28:12):
You know, a jabb at Tyler Hero inappropriate?

Speaker 5 (28:14):
A right?

Speaker 1 (28:15):
So two for one again, was it Riley's praising Adam Bio,
which was also a jabb at Tyler Hero inappropriate? So
let's go to the judges scorecards on this, and I
wrote down two words. Oh no, that's what I wrote down.
Oh my god, Riley made a joke. Pat Riley made
a joke. Quick someone called the sensitivity police before the

(28:39):
entire NBA collapses under the weight of their feeling. Just
like that, right, I just I roll my eyes at
this kind of crap, Because if you honestly think that
by pat Riley praising Bam out of bio and taking

(29:00):
and a bit of a jab at Tyler Hero, you
think that was inappropriate? Congratulations? You have never been within
forty miles of a competitive locker room environment. This is
a trip to the swizzle in South Beach. It's one
of more popular spots it was back in the day
there at least a few years ago in South Beach.
A vintage pat Riley cocktail, A little spicy, little spicy,

(29:24):
little performative, absolutely on brand for the Miami Heat executive
who has been doing this this type of thing, Ryles
for forty plus years.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Pat Riley has been doing this. Riley did not throw shade.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
He threw a Miami Beach rental umbrella and told everyone
to relax, just like that. The former radio commentator, that's
how pat Riley got into all this. He was a
radio commentator with the late Great chick Her And you
can put it in the refrigerator.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
The doors close, the jello's.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Jigglin Uh, and all that from the old legendary broadcaster
from back in the day. But if anything right, if anything,
this this was a message not in a bottle, but
it was a message about culture, the Heat, culture, accountability,
grown man.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Locker room dynamics.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
This is not some kind of moral referendum. Uh, it
is not.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
And so if you're one of these humorless hall monitors
out there complaining.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
I recommend you go jumping a lake. Okay, go go jump.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
In a lake right now, and just go find something
real to cry about.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Just cry, cry, cry, cry cry, Just like that.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
Here we go, Here we go, Here we go, Degree,
here we go. Bibbity boppity bibty boppity. Cuopoloop, here we
go coopoloo. What do we have on this edition of
Mallard to the third Degree?

Speaker 7 (31:02):
Well, John Gruden said on a recent podcast appearance that
he wants to return to the broadcast booth, but this
time as a play by play announcer. Shortly after that quote,
he was announced that Gruden will handle play by play
duties for a preseason game in.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
About a month.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
Ben, how long before Gruden is doing regular season play
by play for one of the big networks?

Speaker 1 (31:18):
Okay, so when does he settle his lawsuit against the NFL?
Does he get to do it just because he wants
to do it? Is that how that works? Like, Hey,
I'd like to have a network TV show again? Can
I get one, because I'll just ask the network. I
think you have to show that you can do it.
Number one and number two, those jobs don't come open

(31:40):
very often. You think Jim Nantz is gonna walk away. Hello, friends,
and I don't want to do it anymore. So I'd
say the chances of John Gruden getting a network play
by play job in the NFL are less than ten percent.

Speaker 7 (31:54):
Next, a report on Tuesday suggested that Brownie James will
not necessarily be following his father to a new team.
Ben what are the odds you give to Bronnie staying
with the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Well, I would say if he goes to Miami or Cleveland,
the Lakers will be so happy. This will make their life.
It would be a honkey talk over at the Lakerland there.
If he goes like Philadelphia or Golden State is much
less likely.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
But he's not. He can't play. The kid can't play.
He sucks.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
So if you can sucker the Heat or the Calves
to take.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Him, why not.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
The problem is lebron knows this kid can't play, so
he'll probably be like, I'll leave in LA.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
I don't want him on my team.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
All right.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
Next, the Detroit Tigers were on a little bit of
a hot streak going twenty to fourteen as they came
into the All Star break.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Kids call it a burner coop. The kids call it
a burner.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Now.

Speaker 7 (32:42):
Some think that the Tigers can make a push for
the playoffs because they have the second easiest remaining schedule.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
Yeah, Ben, do you think they can push for the playoffs?

Speaker 1 (32:51):
I would love to say no. You know, it's my
hobby to bury the dreams of fans. However, the American.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
League blows, and so.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah, I think there is a path. The American League,
tam is wide up. There's no good team in the
American League. They all suck. So yes, and the americanly
just get in. You got a top picture? Absolutely, How
did we do? Koopa loop? You pass this edition? That
is a wind hass to jump falaiah.

Speaker 2 (33:18):

Speaker 3 (33:50):
Okay, okay, cool they they made a song about you.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
You know that weed Man Hippie went to see a
magician who said he could turn people into windmills.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Wow? Cool?

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Yeah, he said he is now a big fan, so
big fan of Do you hear that weed Man is
going to be at the Dolphins rookie mini camp for
a tryout?

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Cool?

Speaker 2 (35:45):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yeah, apparently you're trying to make the practice squad as
a walk on kicker because he wants to get the
high praise.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
He wants high praise.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yes, all right, what else do we Let's see, we're
all familiar with Wee Bowl, a huge sponsor of the
Ben Malor Show. But did you know weed Man's segment
now has its own sponsor?

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Really yeah, it's called weed Bowl. That's a scare. That's
a Michael in Tulsa. Thank you, Michael.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Why did weed Man Hippie get into the hot air balloon?
Why he wanted to get high? He wanted to get high?
What happened to weed man after eating too many edibles?
If you ate too many edibles, weed man, what you
got a pot belly? Pot belly? Why does weed man
keep a three legged cow out back?

Speaker 3 (36:39):
Why you prefer lean beef? Lean beef?

Speaker 1 (36:44):
All right, let's see here, dad joke Dan.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
Why do vegans never get into fights?

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Weed Man? Why they don't like the beef? They don't
like the beef?

Speaker 3 (36:57):

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Well, thank you weed Man, the great weed May it

Speaker 1 (37:16):

Oh oh, that is the entertainment thing.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Yeah yeah, okay, who's.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Your favorite Entertainment Tonight host Marcel.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
All Mary Hart Doctors?

Speaker 3 (38:00):

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Mary's starting up. She still loves the Dodgers. She still
goes out to those Dodger games. God bless her. All right,
go ahead, Derek, that was great.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
All right?

Speaker 7 (38:10):
So, uh this week, and I'm going to start with
a entertainment story, a news update, if you will, ben
you news. Yes, Now, this requires a little bit of background,
especially for you, because I'm sure you don't know anything
about this.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (38:26):
So, there is a famous video game series called God
of War.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
I don't know if you've you've heard of that one.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
I've heard of God, and I've heard of War, but
I have not heard of that.

Speaker 7 (38:35):
All right, So in the video game, you play as Krados,
this kind of like you know, Demi God, and you
you fight all of the other like Norse and and
and Greek gods.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (38:47):
Anyway, Amazon made this into a TV show. They released
photos from you know, the first look kind of teaser
photos back in February of the character as Credos, and
the reaction was bad. People were not liking it. They're like,
this guy is not like ripped enough to be like

(39:09):
a you know, God destroyer. He just doesn't really like
look the part. People thought he just looked weak and
so this whole backlash. Now, yesterday a new story came
out that said God of War shocker Credos actor Ryan
Hurst recast after on set injury.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
So the new story says that he tore his.

Speaker 7 (39:29):
Bicep and that has caused them to need to recast
the role.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Did they put a wink wink in there at the.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
End of that, That's what I was saying. I was like,
do we really think that's what happened here? Or were
they like, hey, look man, you know, and the order
to not embarrass you will come up with something. Yeah,
but you're out.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Well, why wouldn't that That happens all the time in sports,
So why would it not happen with that?

Speaker 4 (39:55):
Yeah, that's it just makes sense.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
You know, Well we'll cover for you.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Don't worry about it, you know, And yeah, all right, right,
just from what you've told me, and I have no knowledge.
I'm totally uneducated. I completely agree.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
Good good, all right. So that is the That is
the latest.

Speaker 7 (40:11):
With the God of War series on Amazon Prime now
going over to theaters. The only thing worth mentioning this weekend,
of course, is Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
So what everybody's talking about so far?

Speaker 7 (40:23):
The reviews from both critics and audience alike are through
the roof ninety six percent on Rotten Tomatoes on.

Speaker 4 (40:29):
Both of those.

Speaker 7 (40:32):
Obviously, the best way to see it, if you can,
is seventy millimeters IMAX. If you don't have tickets already,
you're not going to be seeing it this weekend.

Speaker 4 (40:41):
It is completely sold out.

Speaker 7 (40:43):
They opened up three am showings at CityWalk at Universal
and those are sold out.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
Yeah, it's sure. It's insane.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
So it's gonna do a little better than Supergirl.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
Yeah, yeah, just a little bit.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Somebody sent me a story from one of the trade
papers how like Supergirl, they spent one hundred and seventy
million on it, and I think, you know, it's already
been out for a while, and I think they've lost
over fifty million dollars or something like that.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
Some ridiculous amount of motion.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
Yeah, I can.

Speaker 7 (41:13):
I can go see movies for free with my unlimited pass,
and I didn't go see it.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
So it's not a great song. Yeah, not a great Yeah.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
Not at all.

Speaker 7 (41:21):
And then last, but not least on Sunday or oh
is it Sunday? No, it is on Tuesday, Tuesday, Jus
Jay twenty. First, Bill Maher is getting honored with the
Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center.

Speaker 4 (41:38):
That will be a Netflix special on that.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
Are you gonna fly out for that? Coop? Is that
in DC?

Speaker 5 (41:44):
Right?

Speaker 3 (41:44):
You're gonna play out there for that?

Speaker 7 (41:45):
No?

Speaker 4 (41:45):
No, but I will check it out on Netflix.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
That's your guy, Bill mar Though.

Speaker 4 (41:49):
Yeah. I love Bill Mark.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
Yeah. Have you been to the show?

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Have you seen?

Speaker 3 (41:52):
I have you haven't?

Speaker 7 (41:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (41:54):
Waiting in line at the CBS lot to get in there.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
They're getting rid of the CBS lot over there. Somebody
told me they're getting rid of that.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (42:00):
You can't get tickets to his show anymore, like the
way that I Yeah, you actually you have to get
to like literally go there in person line.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Yeah, that sucks. I used to like I was a
Letterman fan. Years ago, and I was visiting my.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
Brother in New York, and we waited online at the
Ed Sullivan Theater there.

Speaker 4 (42:17):
And you and you saw him.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
No, I didn't get it.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
I spent like three hours waiting in freaking line and
wasting my time and.

Speaker 4 (42:25):
I ah, And then you never tried again.

Speaker 3 (42:27):
That was it. One time that said it's not worth
my time, so I didn't go.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
Yeah, all right, so anyway, that's coop scoop entertainment
