Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Radio Viva Las Vegas. Oh, by the way, shameless promotion
coming up in less than a couple of weeks here.
All well, I think we're at the point. Now, where's
two weeks? I be We're exactly two weeks out, all right,
I guess we're a little over. I don't know. It's
the twenty ninth, so this is it's weird because we're
(00:50):
heading into the fourteenth. So yeah, a little over two weeks.
Bad job by me, But a little over two weeks
will be in Vegas. If you're in Vegas or able
to make it, we'd love to meet you, mallard, meet
and greet. Well, we go to Vegas right now, and
it turns out I'm not the most popular person with
the Raider fans. I don't know why. They're very sensitive,
these hardened Raider fans very delicate.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
They're delicate little flowers.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Anyway, Fernando Mendoza, their new savior, their lord and savior.
Fernando Mendoza made his debut kind of you really can't
get too worked up either way on an exhibition game,
and I was flipping around. I you know, I don't know,
I'm such a loser. At least I'm getting paid for
the way I look at it. You know, I'm plausibly
(01:32):
getting paid to watch these games. And I was watching
all the exhibition games from the Steelers and the Packers,
the Patriot game. I had that on a bouncing around there,
and the Lions and ben Gals and you name it.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Of the Raiders played against the Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, that is a dog food matchup if there was
two embarrassing franchises. Their joke. So despite some fanboy reports
about how good he looked, oh my god, I must
have had an issue with my television, listen the reality
on this side.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Heyban, he looked mid. That's where he is. I thought
he would kind of be a mid guy.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
And that's as I canna play as a starter Fernando
Mendoza pretty pedestrian, the average six point one yards per
pass against a bunch of backups who will be delivering
packages for Amazon. Not there's anything wrong with that, but
they'll be doing that rather than playing in the National
Football League. So color me not impressed. One thing I've learned,
(02:37):
all right, One thing I've learned here is to never
get too worked up into a lather regarding these exhibition
games either way. But anyway, let's go to the man,
the mid, the legend, Fernando Mendoza. Here, your new savior,
the messiah of Raider Nation. Here he is on his
first appearance in an NFL uniform in a practice game.
Take a liss.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
It was an invigorating sperience where there's not many moments
where you feel fully alive, and on the field is
when you feel fully alive, especially in the NFL atmosphere.
So I want to give thanks to that.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, well it looked pretty. It didn't look like there
was a lot of energy. Am I missing something again?
Must be a bad TV. Here's more from Fernando Mendoza
on a need for speed.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
A need for.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Speed, great to get out there, get my feet wet
at first especially the first drive, fell a little sped
up because so much anticipation and excitement. However, I feel
like the cheap my teammates around me protected me very
well and they helped me. They helped slow me down.
And I think because it was a good experience.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
And I saw a lot of pressure on Fernando Mendoza
and he didn't seem to be handling it very well.
What do I know?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
So color me not impressed. Even if he played well.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
I wouldn't be like, all right, it's great either way
bad or it's a mid like I said, mid the
story though, to me is some other comments made by
the person we just heard there. And if you didn't
hear those comments, perhaps not Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
He did this. There's this big expos.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Behind a paywall on the athletic and Mendoza says, you know,
talking about you know, they was asked about living in
Vegas and you know the whole reputation of the debauchery
that takes place in that town. Of course, now the
debauchery costs you a lot more because you've got pay
for parking and everything's ridiculous. But Mendoza says, he largely
avoids the iconic Las Vegas strip. He compared it to
(04:39):
a childhood haunted house. Yeah, yeah, I thought this was fake.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Apparently not.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
And even though he signed a contract with fifty seven,
I believe the number was fifty seven million guaranteed. If
I have that right, I believe I am over fifty
seven million guaranteed. Yet essentially he only wears Raiders gear
and off from Adidas, and he also has shut down
social media until the season ends, so that's gonna be well,
(05:08):
the Raider season ends in January, so he'll have no
social media till then. Then wait, there's more. Mendoza also
said the playbook is my girlfriend. Close quote. Playbook is
my girlfriend and has largely decided no, no ladies, You
ladies are toxic. You're toxic to you ladies, and no
(05:29):
partying Poindexter eight partying. And he describes himself as willing
to be quote psycho about football close quote. All right,
that's a good jumping off point. Let us discuss the question.
Fernando Mendoza lot to pick a part here. He says
he avoids the Las Vegas trip and the playbook is
(05:52):
his girlfriend.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
How does this read to you?
Speaker 1 (05:55):
So I got Hunter s Thompson all inclusive, opical resort
and depression era. And we will combine all of these
things together. We're gonna enjoy a one arm bandit the
one arm band, a slot machine. We're gonna enjoy that.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Al right.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
So a I would like to thank Fernando Mendoza for
sounding like the biggest square to ever wear the raider's helmet.
All right, this guy not a good quarterback, good SoundBite.
I'll take it. You know, it's gonna be a good time.
Gonna be a good time. I'm enjoying it. I got
a lot of talk radio.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
To do, and this guy's good for my business. He's good.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
So the strip is his personal boogeyman. Yeah, my boogeyman
is having to pay parking on the strip. That's my book.
I love the strip, the paying the parking part, that's
my boogeyman. And I guess, is there like a blackjack
dealer possibly hiding under his bed? Can somebody check under
his bed to see if there's a Mendoza might have
a like a blackjack dealer or a bed bugs or
(06:58):
something like that. And it just came across like he
has so little self control that like driving past Caesar's
Palace down the strip, and all of a sudden he's
gonna turn into Hunter S. Thompson on a bender because
he happened to see the fountains at Caesar's Palace or
something like that, and spare maybe the playbook is my
(07:20):
girlfriend line.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Now, let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
When I was a young man in my twenties, radio
was my girlfriend. The reason radio is my girlfriend. No
women would get within ten feet of me. They all
agreed to stay away.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
He was, I don't know, some kind of feminine bonding
thing to stay away.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Man. This guy's that with the number one pick in
the NFL draft. I'm guessing he doesn't have that problem anyway.
Somewhere across the Pearly Gates, Al Davis, the Late Great
Al Davis is haunting a hallway, wondering what happened to
his beloved franchise. And I really I'm gonna I'm gonna
date myself. When I was growing up, the Raiders were Machiesma.
(08:00):
They were a different breed, The Raiders right that it
used to be the NFL's band of swashbuckling pirate misfits,
right renegades outlaws, The Raiders.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Bad boys, bad boys, bad boys.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Who looked like they would steal your wallet and your
girlfriend at the same time before kickoff. Okay, now the
top pick their savior. Fernando Mendoza is apparently terrified of staying.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Up past his bedtime.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Like what in the world is going on? It's like
the anti Raider And look, Fernando Mendoza doesn't need to
become a degenerate in Vegas. There's plenty of those guys.
Many of them love our show, We love our friend
mouthwash Mic for example.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Right, he didn't have to do that. You don't have
to go down that road.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Okay, but you can visit the strip without turning into
Nicholas Cage and leaving Las Vegas. Like just try to
give a little swagger and a little bit. You know
that the whole thing was.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
It used to be just win baby.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Of course, any you tell anyone under the age of
like thirty or even like twenty five, just win baby.
For the Raiders are well that one.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Come on, just lose. That's their slogan, not win, but
just live a little bit, Just live a little I'm
not telling.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
You to become the party man, but just live a
little bit, all right, now meanwhile to Seattle, and we
told you about this in the previous episode.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
It has now happened.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
It's it's over.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
It's all over for the Seattle Seahawks. Turn out a
lot not a lot lot? Hey, goodbye?
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Oh yeah, yep, we have learned that Terry On Arnold
has agreed to join the Seattle Seahawks. What whoa Yes,
the Lions, you might remember, fired Terry On Arnold in
late June. You might think that's harsh. It was less
than a week after he was arrested in Tampa. He
(10:09):
was the first round pick in the twenty twenty four
NFL Draft. The Seahawks coach Mike McDaniel or McDonald rather McDonald, McDaniel, McDonald,
you know whatever. Anyway, Mike McDonald, this guy had, he
had like knee pads on, describing Arnold's workout as a
great visit, great tryout, and of course admitted there's a
(10:34):
he said there were significant issues surrounding him. Oh, let
me see. What do you think those issues were. Let's
take a look. What do you Let's peek behind the curtain. Okay,
why not?
Speaker 3 (10:43):
What the hell?
Speaker 1 (10:44):
All right, so prosecutors are accusing. Now it's an accusation.
They're accusing Terry On Arnold of being the ringleader, the
man orchestrating a kidnapping and beating the crap out of
three people that he alleged and apparently wrongly had stolen
(11:04):
one hundred thousand in cash and a bunch of other
luxury watches and crap that's overpriced that he bought. Arnold
is facing not one, not two, not three, not four,
not five, not six, not seven? How about eight felony
counts for kidnapping, four armed robbery charges? All right? And
(11:27):
how much jail time you think he's fishing? I think
he's fishing in like ten years? No, all right, maybe twenty. No,
how about life in prison? Okay, he's this is not
a jaywalking ticket. He didn't steal a bag of potato
chips from the store. This is life in prison now.
No trial date has been set and that's where we are.
(11:49):
So the question, are the Seahawks telling us something with
the tarry On Arnold pending addition? Yeah, I mean they're
telling us a couple of things. They have no scruples
and they are so scared of the la Rams the
Seattle Seahawks. You don't take a guy like this on
your roster unless you're afraid of the la rams, You're
(12:10):
not good enough, you know it. And this is the
type of move you make. That's it, right, a guy
facing life altering felony charges. And yet the Seattle management
there is like, okay, this is just a harmless footnote.
It's on page ninety seven of the scouting report. You've
got Mike McDonald who looks at potentially facing this guy
(12:32):
facing a life in prison and thinks, well, the.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Guy's got grid, He's got grit.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Terry on'nold has grid plus plus, he's already got a
retirement plan at the all inclusive tropical resort. Where's that
all inclusive tropical resort there, mister McDonald, That would be.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
The Florida State prison system.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yes, now tell me another job where you could gain
employment like this when facing that, in any other job,
you'd be radioactive.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
And yet the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL are like,
oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if when this goes down here,
Terry on Arnold shows up and he's wearing handcuffs and
the Seattle Seahawks spin doctors in the twelves would say, listen,
they're not handcuffs, dummy, They're revolutionary resistant bands. That's what
(13:27):
they are. And he's so good he can play with
those revolutionary resistant bands. You just are mean calling them handcuffs.
You're a boomer. What is going on? You're the reigning
Super Bowl champions act like it? Why dumpster dive for
that kind of back. Stop acting like you're the Browns
or the Jets of the Raiders of the Cardinals. It's unbecoming.
(13:50):
You don't need to run a halfway house with shoulder pads.
Come on, now, the good news is the marketing department Seattle.
My friends there in the marketing department, and they will rebrand.
Now years ago, I'm barely old enough to remember when
they were really good. They had an unbelievable defense. They
called it the Legion of Boom. Now, with Terry on
(14:12):
Arnold coming on, they can rebrand it the mug Shot Mafia.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Oh watch out for the mug Shot Mafia. Pretty good,
all right.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Nothing screams championship culture quite like wondering if your newest
defensive back will be able to cover receivers on Thursday,
or he'll have an extended meeting with his attorneys to
figure out what to do next. All right.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Meanwhile, all right, the.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Last part of this, let's go to Buffalo. Follow up
to the follow up, I have been receiving email from
one I don't think this guy lives in Buffalo. He's
a big Bills fan. He's in the suburbs up there
in western New York, and he's very upset that I've.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Taken shots at his beloved Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Apparently, the overnight guy taking shots at the Bills is
a big problem for this dude. So he sent me
all this propaganda about the Bills stadium and says, see,
see they didn't mess it up. You're just a hater,
you know that whole thing. So we have a stadium update.
The architect behind that monstrosity, the two point two billion
(15:10):
High Mark Stadium, says that the ghastly obstructed site lines
were not a design mistake or some kind of oversight.
They were intentional.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
What.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yes, the stadium was designed that way on purpose. They said.
They designed a steeper upper deck, more vertical seating bowls,
and they stacked obviously the upper tiers there intended. The
goal was to bring the fans closer to the field.
And create a louder atmosphere and all that. Yeah, Okay,
(15:49):
a person I'm not going to give the name of
the firm the architectause I haven't heard of them, but
somebody that worked for that company, some blowhard executive, defended
the setup, saying, quote, you will find some level of
obstruction in every stadium in the world, while arguing the
(16:10):
goal was better proximity.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
And atmosphere close quote.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
All right. So the question the Buffalo bills say that
these obstructed seats in their brand new stadium are not
a design mistake.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
How does this reshape the story?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
All right? All right, so let me take a breath.
All right, So claims that these obstructed seats are not
a design mistake elevate the story from a garden variety
screw up garden variety to biblical incompetence. Okay.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Their defense is, yeah, we meant to do that. Yeah,
that's our that's ours. We did it. So let me
get this straight.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
You spent two point two billion on a football palace
that has if I'm correct, here correct me if I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
I jotted down on my notesap on my phone.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
It has a vintage nineteen eighties style JumboTron in that stadium,
the kind of a jumbo tron you would see in
like nineteen eighty seven at the Metrodome. Okay, it has
sightlines that are similar to the nineteen thirties, and the
(17:22):
upper deck so vertical that if you climb to row thirty.
According to internet videos that I saw, it does require,
as we said in a previous episode of the show,
a shirpa and an oxygen tank to get to that point, right,
and so what's next? Support columns in front of the urinals, like,
(17:42):
what are we doing here? And they talked about what
we did is for crowd noise. You know what also
create artificial crowd noise?
Speaker 3 (17:50):
A roof?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
You know what else happens in Buffalo snow, a lot
of snow. I'm just saying, if your goal was to
get a lot of noise, a roof would have done that. Yeah,
oh you're a viet mean, what's wrong with you? So
this is and it made me I'm wrong on this.
I think it's supposed to be a sparkling new NFL cathedral,
the Tabernacle of Buffalo bill Football, not some of some
(18:14):
kind of archaeological recreation of a Depression era stadium design,
like did they dust off the old blueprints from Tigers
Stadium slash Briggs Stadium back and they say, oh, this
seems like a good idea. And as we pointed out,
is listen, if tickets were affordable and it was something
(18:37):
where it was everyone had a chance to really go there,
and you'd have to spend most of your spendable income,
your disposable income, excuse me to go to these games.
The bills just created this PSL bull crap, one of
the great hustles of our time, and the fans in
Buffalo have handed over.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
I think the number I saw.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Was two hundred and sixty dollars to pay the bills
for the right to pay more money for the stadium
or for the tickets in the stadium. That's a PSL
ransom so they could play piekaboo with Josh Allen while
clinging for life like a mountain goat in the upper deck.
(19:17):
It's just so just spare us the the mumbo jumbo
about proximity and all that. That's just lipstick on a
two point two billion dollar Buffalo and just try to
not gaslight people into thinking that alpine style seating and
blocked views are features.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
All right, No, they're bugs.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Okay. Now, I advise the Malard think tank. Fix what
you can do what you can to fix the stuff.
Grab some honey mustard and eat the l.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Eat the l.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
That's the Mallard advice. That's the wisdom. That's what I
have for you.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
So our lead story of this our little baseball here
at the top and big match up this weekend, the
Dodgers and the Brewers four game series. It started on
Thursday night at the Ravine in LA and the Dodgers
are back. They get the perfect tonic. They played the
Royals beat up on the tomato cans there and so
now the Brewers come in. Brewers have not been playing
well recently either, So that was the matchup. I saw
(21:32):
any of that game, perhaps you missed it, and wow,
what a hot mess Edwin Diaz, Yeah, man, he had
dysentery yet again on the mound, coughed up a multi
run lead in the night the inning, and Dave Roberts
acting like the statue of liberty. He was frozen like
(21:53):
a statue watching this happen and took him out too late.
Brewers win the game. The crew get back on track,
feel good about themselves there against another Dave Roberts liked
him in that spot moment there, So we'll wait to
get our full review on that series. But the Brewers
feeling good about themselves, Dodgers and another embarrassing moment there.
(22:14):
It's all about the loose bies. I'm sure some Dodger
propaganda's say, well, you know, he didn't get any anybody
really out, but he looked.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
You know, there's some signs. There's some signs he's about
to turn the corner.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Ah, all right, anyway, the real story, don't bury the lead, mama,
and the real story here is the unrest in Blue Heaven.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
As we have talked about.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
It's bad, like the Gougenheim Partner group, it's not good
at all.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Everything I'm hearing, everything I read.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
This is a big time financial boondoggle that has no
end in sight, no really good ending to think about it.
Like the top way this could end would be that
all you have to do is sell the Dodgers. You
already sold the Lakers, and they just take that whatever
money you can get out of that after Capito gains,
(23:04):
and then pay off the federal government to keep yourself
out of some country club jail as a rich person,
because rich people go to country club jail about.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Where we are based on the information we have.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
So the other part of this is the there's a
lot of pieces in the jigsaw puzzle is sho Hail Tani.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
So we're hearing that the reports.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
I'm sure these were completely organic and we're not leaked
by somebody from the Dodger PR department that sho Hel
Tani is unlikely to exercise his key man opt out
clause even if Mark Walter is forced by the federal
government to sell the Dodgers because of some illegal dealing financially.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Now, the report that conveniently.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Popped up in multiple Friendly to Baseball outlets. Friendly to
Baseball outlets claimed that it was as source familiar with
Otani's camp, where is Campbelltani?
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Do is that?
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Like?
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Do we know is that in Riverside? Where's Campbelltani? San Clemente?
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Do we know where that?
Speaker 3 (24:07):
We don't know where they're not? Now the clause if
you don't know, give you the quick thumbnail on this.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
So a Tani ten year, seven hundred million dollar contract,
he's currently getting paid seven dollars an hour, and most
of that money deferred. However, there's an opt out if
Mark Walter, the owner, or the Dodgers executive Andrew Friedman
say bye bye to the organization now Otani's camp.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
This is according to the reporting.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
They believe that Dodgers have proven themselves to be a
well oiled machine and fulfilled their promise to reinvest the
money saved through Otani's massive contract deferrals into the Dodger roster.
Then you had that longtime gas bag executive Stan cast In,
(24:57):
the Dodgers executive.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Who came out there.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Remember I remember when he got very upset with a
one of the beat writers. I approached him in the
press box. Very classic a couple years back. Anyway, stay
Casting insisting that the owner of the team, the guy
that's his boss, Mark Walter, and his sudden sale of
the Lakers completely unrelated to the Dodgers declaring there are
no changes here. Wink wink.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
I added the last part that wink wink. I added
that that was not his court. I added the wink wink.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
That was my part.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
That was my part, I added the wink wink.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
All right, So that is a good jumping out point.
Let us discuss the question show hey, Otani, all right,
not going to hit the eject button on the Dodgers
if they're sold this according to multiple reports, believe it
or not, believe it or not. So I've got Lady Gaga,
my pillow and televangelist, and we'll combine all of these
(25:52):
things together and we'll give you the ABC's and the
one two threes. We always start out, though, with no
one one one one?
Speaker 3 (26:04):
What stop?
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Stop? I said, stop? What a croc? What an absolute croc? Okay, Seriously,
we're not chugging the corporate blue kool aid. Now. I
like the Dodgers. I'd like them to succeed. I'd like
them to do well. But unlike a lot of you people,
I have critical thinking. All right, I have critical thinking,
(26:33):
and that is my my advantage I have over many people.
Otani did not negotiate one of the rarest clauses in
baseball history. You can count, I believe, on one hand,
the amount of people that have had that clause. You
don't do that to just waste it. You know, it
is an inject button, and you don't certainly broadcast your
(26:56):
intentions when you're going to hit it, just like Mark
Walter did not say I'm gonna buy the Lakers in
less than a year, I'm gonna sell them. He didn't
say that. He didn't say that, you know, because he
didn't realize the FEDS would be off bird dogging him
after him. So Otani's Camp Campboltani is that like Camp Pendleton,
(27:17):
So Campoltani would have to be clinically stupid to telegraph
their movements.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
They don't know.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
There's so many unanswered questions here about how how bad
is this? Is it legitimately terrible? Is it not as
bad as initially reported? So naturally you would think they're
sitting there with their Lady Gaga poker face, pretending, pretending
everything is pure Dodger Land magic, like we don't know
(27:49):
who if the Dodgers, who buys the team? Does Andrew
Friedman stay or does he leave? Will the new owner
keep spending like a drunken sailor or turn the Dodgers
back in to Frank McCourt ere a dollar general where
they bring back he sop Troy. Nobody knows Didley squat okay,
(28:09):
and all these reports conveniently leaking out at about the
same time.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
It just makes you go hmmm.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Kind of like that was orchestrated one of those lines
the Dodgers, the well Oiled Machine line, which pr person
wrote that that's quality, that is absolute quality from supposedly
Otani's camp. But just to put a bow on this,
declaring Otani will not walk right now is like walking
(28:41):
around the stables there at Churchill Downs. And we have
one of our great listeners who tends of the horses
at Churchill Downs, walking around the back of Churchill Downs
and just wander around and announcing the winner of the
Kentucky Derby while the horses are eating hay in the back.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
What are you doing all right now?
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Pitch due to the Bronx, to the Brox and the
Bronx of the Bronx and Brox and Bronx Box Brox
broxh Jazz Chisholm not exactly smooth Jazz a miserable season.
Much This may have Yankee fan Jill in Minnesota. She's
devastated at Jazz Chishm there, who's continued to suck at
a time he cannot suck.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
When Oh for.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Four Yankees had a matinee there in the Bronx three strikeouts,
including the final out.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Yankees lost one nothing to the Seattle baseball team.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
And despite being absolute dog crap all year, Jazz Chisholm
does not think that going to the bench would help him,
of course not. Why would he Nothing else has helped him,
Why would that help him? He said, The only way
through the struggles is to continue to play and go
oh for four.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Uh while he said, to keep going through it.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Yes, it's an automatic out when you play the Yankees.
You're always on the power play when Jazz Chisholm is there.
Because the Yankees lineup is shorthanded. Now his offensive production
has fallen into the abyss. Okay, it's somewhere in the
East River. Chisholm a six eighty seven ops for the
Yankees right now at the time we're doing this monologue,
(30:22):
and that is way down over one hundred points, over
one hundred and twenty points from where it was last season.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
And it's across the board.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Down down down down, down down down down down down down,
down down down. It's way down now, Chisholm said, you know, he' said, oh,
it can be okay and all that stuff, but he's
carrying a roughly forty percent with rate, and it's not
just against one pitch it's not just against breaking balls,
(30:55):
it's against everything, and he can see it. Here's what
he said. He said, he doesn't have an explanation. He said,
I can't tell you why or else I would be
hitting Chisholm, insisting that he isn't mentally defeated. And he
then said he believes forty one games can turn a
season around, which is the amount of games the Yankees have,
(31:16):
give or take here the rest of the way. So
the question, can you diagnose what the f is going
on with Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Junior, the second baseman
from Hell. So yeah, Jazz Chisholm Jr. Let's go back
to February, and it was great, it was wonderful. He
(31:37):
came out and it was spring training in Florida, and
he showed up and he was doing cosplay as a
glorious peacock, and he was strutting around as a peacock
with his feathers in the air everywhere, and if I
remember correctly, he was talking about.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
A fifty to fifty season in the Bronx.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
And unfortunately he has been not been charged with writing
bad checks. He wrote checks he could not cash and
no baseball play. Think about this. Of all the players
in Major League Baseball, there is no single baseball player
in twenty twenty six that has destroyed their financial future
more than jazz Chism.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Nobody has done more damage.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
To their outlook career wise financially than jazz Chism.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
And his big.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Proclamation from Yankee Nation has turned out to be not
a dream, more like a nightmare. He wanted the mega
mega mega millions in free agency, and instead he has
thrown roughly one hundred and fifty million dollars. That's how
much he's going to lose into a bonfire and watched
(32:47):
it burn, baby burn, and that is generational wealth up
in smoke this season. That's how bad jazz Chism has been.
He bet on himself and right now he's got a
cream pie all over the place.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Right Chisholm wanted the penthouse. He wanted the penthouse.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
As of this moment, he is going to be shopping
in the My Pillow section of free agency, one of
those pillow contracts we talk about all the time, and
he'll be starring in a budget friendly remake of a
My Pillow commercial those used to be everywhere, and his
(33:26):
likely next contract instead of the presidential suite. He'll be
staying at a hostel, right and just going to keep
the roof over your head. And you got a lot
of people hanging around and all that. One of those
one year bounce back pillow deals. Yeah, So it turns
out all those tail feathers from the peacock costume were
hot air.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
That's what they were.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
All right, final point, Let's go back to the NFL.
I am contractually obligated to talk about this, so I
wanted to talk about the presentation. All right. Watched a
lot of these Thursday exhibition games and my right hand
was getting a workout, flipping around the boob tube to
practice football, not real football, not real football.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
We talked about practice football exhibition games.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
So the question, what was your big takeaway from spending
about seven hours of your life. We'll be on your
deathbed someday and wish you had that time back. What's
your takeaway from the malor sampler on the first real
night of exhibition NFL television broadcast. So my takeaway is
rather simple, and it's the same take I've had for
(34:37):
many years.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
I just like to enhance it.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
It's confirmed, I was read, I got reconfirmed by my
take validated. So the exhibition television broadcasts are not football coverage.
They're not football coverage. It's like going to church, all right,
it's going to the tabernacle, every local broadcaster. And I
flipped through all these games, the Lions and the and
(35:00):
the Patriots there there again. I went down the Raiders
and Cardinals. I was watching the forty nine ers of
the time. All of these broadcasts, everyone that I sampled
on the malor sampler, every one.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Of them was.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
It was like watching a televangelist working as a faith
healer holding.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
A tent revival out in the boondocks, promising miracles this season.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
It's like they were all passing around this sippy cup
with team.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Kool aid, is what they were doing. So yeah, it's
I understand.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
You check your critical thinking at the door when you
are in this environment. And repeat after me. Everybody looks amazing.
We've had such a great camp all m G. Yeah,
these telecasts it's like real estate listings. You know, they
ever check if you've ever looked for a house or
anything like that. You look at these real estate listings
(35:54):
online and everything is charming, potential, a lot of upside,
which usually means total dump, total dump. And on night
number one of the exhibition games, like, every single rookie,
(36:17):
according to these guys, is Moses parting the Red Sea.
What a draft. We nailed it. We absolutely nailed in
the draft. Every veteran, best shape of his life, hasn't
had a better camp than this one. Yep, every dysfunctional
franchise on track.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
On the road Gloria Road to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Like you aren't watching actual analysis, You're attending a three
hour motivational seminar where the snake oil is officially licensed
with the NFL shield on it. Welcome to the cult.
It's like, come on, I'm watching the Titans broadcast. I
(37:04):
was watching the Charger Texans game and some blowhard from
the Texans like, well, the NFL sent us to London
because they love the Texans brand.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
No, they didn't, dummy.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
They sent the Texans because they send everybody outside a
few glamour teams overseas because they're barnstorming. And that's what they're.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
Doing because they love the Texans. Okay, it's not so
just knock it off. You're embarrassing yourself, is what you're doing.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
It's embarrassing be sure to catch live editions of the
Ben Maller Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm pacific'.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
The XPO's Mallard.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (37:42):
To the third degree, this is one big vent gets grilled?
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Who knew and koopa loop?
Speaker 6 (37:52):
Now, Ben, I know that you weren't all that impressed
with Fernando Mendoza's first NFL showing, but everybody is. I'm
super excited about Drew Aller. He had great stat's better
than better than Mendoza. I imagine you feel the same
way about his showing.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Yes, I don't. I'm very levelheaded, as you know, Coop.
I don't just I'm not a reactionary talk show host.
I don't believe in the ever do I think Drew
Aller is the savior of Pittsburgh's quarterback dilemma and all No,
I do not.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
I do not.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
It's nice that he had good numbers and all that,
and a Penn State guy the whole thing, and exceeding expectations.
I don't get excited about that. I'm not. I mean,
it's a preseason game number one in the Green Bay
Packers were totally destrevel next.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
Now, Ben, there was a report that Luka Doncik had
zero idea that the team was going to be sold,
and this came after he talked about how great the
communication was between him and Mark Walter. Do you think
it's surprising that he had no idea that this was coming.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
No, because Mark Walter had no idea this was coming.
The FEDS hadn't been bird dogging him. He would have
kept the Lakers, like they didn't buy.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
The Lakers to sell the Lakers after a year, Like
they're panicking over there.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
They got to figure out how to dig themselves out
of the holder in right now.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
And yeah, I totally believe that this was not the plan.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
And they were embarrassed and they were hoping they wouldn't
have to sell the Lakers. They had no choice, so
they had to get rid of them. So they're not
going to announce it. Nobody had this, Nobody knew this
was gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (39:33):
Next, New Dallas and Mavericks coach Dusty May was asked
if he would ever return to coaching in the college ranks.
He said, I hope not because that would mean I
did crappy here. Could you see him ember returning to college?
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Well, he answered, you know the answer is yes, if
he sucks. That's what we always said that the college
job is a fallback job. The NBA is a better life.
It's more money, it's a better lifestyle. You don't have
to deal with the nil bull craft. Of course, he
ran a.
Speaker 3 (40:04):

Speaker 6 (47:35):
Luckily we have a short abbreviated Coop Scoop on Entertainment.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
You're saying I f'd up the clock? Is that what
you're saying. I'm just saying it's a good thing that
we do.
Speaker 6 (47:44):
Okay, all right, We're gonna start off in the theaters
and the new movie out this weekend that I want
to highlight is called The.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
End of Oak Street.
Speaker 6 (47:52):
Now. This is a sci fi slash fantasy thriller. The
synopsis goes after a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street
from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown. The
Platte family soon discovers that their very survival depends on
them sticking together as they navigate they're now unrecognizable surroundings.
(48:13):
I believe there are dinosaurs in this movie. I'm just
gonna throw that out there. It stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor,
and Chris coy is also in this one.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
Oh Chris coy is but a Hathaway. I've heard him,
you know.
Speaker 6 (48:27):
Yeah, Chris coy has been in some TV shows and
movies as of late. He's actually gonna be in another
show that I'm gonna mention here in a couple of minutes.
But good reviews on this one. By the way, Anne
Hathaway's awesome. Love her all right. Moving over to television,
we have a new show called Don't Say Good Luck,
(48:47):
and that is available to stream on Netflix. Right now.
And it is a family dramedy centering on a high
school student whose preparations for starring in her high school
musical are interrupted by disturbing who's at home. We've got
Steve Buscemi and John lovetts in this one.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Oh, I've heard of both of those people.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
Yeah, all right, I'm hit man.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
I heard of both those guys, John Love It's very
funny man back in the day.
Speaker 6 (49:12):
Yeah, that's right. So you've heard both of them because
they were both super famous in like the early nineties.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
So Dare You, Dare You?
Speaker 6 (49:21):
And last, but not least on Sunday on HBO at
nine PM or streamingun HBO Max. We have a new
TV series set within the DC universe called Lanterns. It
comes from Damon Lindelof, who is the creator of Lost
and Watchmen, And basically it's centers around the Green Lantern.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
And I've heard of the Green Lantern. Yes, famous in
the like the nineteen thirties. Yes, that is true.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
It is.
Speaker 6 (49:54):
It doesn't take specific storylines from the comics, but it's
structured as a murder and investigation that draws elements throughout
Green Lantern's history as well as from TV shows like
True Detective and Slow Horses, and I believe this is
starring Finn wind Trock of Stranger Things Fame. First of
eight episodes Sunday, HBO, nine PM.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
That is scoop scoop unterview
