Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's our number one, our one of the Ben Malers Show.
And a happy, happy, happy Thursday to you. It is
the eleventh day of June and we get to dissect
one of the all time great moments in pro basketball,
the greatest choke job in NBA history. Congratulations to Victor
(00:23):
Wembanyama and the Spurs. They pulled it off. They gagged
away a twenty nine point third quarter lead. It had
never happened before in the NBA Finals and now it
has so here in hour one, who gets the blame
for Wemby's Spurs historical.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Twenty nine point blown lead in the finals?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Also, how much credit on the other side do you
give Jalen Brunson's Knickerbockers as they get the comeback win?
And is this NBA Finals in the fridge for Jalen
Brunson and the Knicks up three games to one. We'll
talk about that and a whole bunch of others. We
also have the World Cup Pick them. The World Cup
(01:03):
pick em will be coming your way as well, and
we'll get started right now here. It is our number one.
For many many years, we have lived by the mantra,
a rather simple mantra that most games are lost, They're
not one. If you don't believe me, if you think
I'm just some bloviating gas bag late at night, I
(01:27):
hope you got a chance to witness the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (01:42):

about this gas thing. And I said, well, Kathy, it's
not a gas thing, it's gas Buddy. It's it's me

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yes.

(03:55):
I think is that wait a minute here that I
think that was Lance, the buster of all people.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I haven't heard from Lance in months.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
And he said, Ben, the reason you haven't heard from
me is because you didn't do the express for it.
I said, you know what, Lance, I'm gonna do it.

we're good and we'd like to learn all you feelis downline.
Not only is this a great night to roast like
a pig at a luau, a traditional Hawaiian lua the
San Antonio spurs.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
What a gag.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
We'll have fun with that all night. And also, as
promised and was a great idea by the late night
drug tester, the world Cup pick them. Now, the hopper
is not in the studio with me. The hopper is
in the green room right now that we're going to
bring the hopper out and we need if I'm math
is correct, we need to get four rounds in each
(05:03):
hour for this to work. There's forty eight teams at
this start of the World Cup, and a bunch of
these teams are not very good and they suck and
they'll be kicked out and all that. But we'll do
all forty eight. We'll explain more about that coming up
in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Big night.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I mean, really, just we're globe trekkers here with the
World Cup.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Pick them. It's just so freaking exciting.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
We are fired up, however, our lead, so don't bear
the lead. My man, Oh what a night now. As
we often point out, and again got an email from
a listener in the New York area, New Jersey who
was like, oh man, you must be fired up then
to get in there and talk about the game. And
I'm like, and my reaction is always the same to this,
because we get paid this. It's like, we don't get
(05:47):
paid extra if the game's good or if there's something
that's like really amazing that happens, we get paid the same.
Where there's no gifts. We did it during the pandemic,
there were no games. We were talking about Marble racing,
and it was the same thing. But our lead this
hour is from New New York City, right above Penn Station.
That was the Hippodrome for game number four.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
That's right, the NBA Finals now Wemby and San Antonio
trying to square the books up against Jalen Brunson and
the Knicks. And were you watching, Perhaps not, maybe you
were watching, you turned it off.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well, if you did, bad job by you.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
The Knickerbockers came back and back and back and all
the way back, as they had a record setting night
down twenty nine points on multiple occasions, and they are
now on the brink of a civil unrest in New
York when the lunatic Nick fans start celebrating there but
(06:46):
the first Championships its nineteen seventy three, is in the
on deck circle as the Knicks rally back for a
one oh seven to one oh six win in a
game that will be remembered for a long time until
we all die, and then it will be forgotten. The
game was decided by og Annobi, who was not blocked
(07:07):
out by the San Antonio Spurs, who were caught napping.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
He ran all the way in and tippy mctip and.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
The miss of Jalen Brunson's three ball tempt with one
point two seconds remaining, and that the kill shot. As
the Knicks get a three to one lead. Now in
the NBA Finals, that means they have three chances not
to f this up and win the championship. Jalen Brunson
helping bring the Knicks back with thirty six points and
(07:38):
og Nanobi had thirty three. Now, the better story is
in the losing locker room the Spurs, who somehow had
a twenty nine point lead and looked like they'd win
by seventy. They had a twenty seven point halftime lead,
they went up by twenty nine a couple points in
the third quarter, and it all went away. All went
to hell right there. And that is a good jumping
(08:02):
off point. So let us discuss now the question, which
is rather obvious is who gets the blame for Wemby's
Spurs on a historical twenty nine point blown lead in
the NBA Finals.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Holy crap on a cracker.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
So my thoughts on this, I've got speakeasy Sergeant Pepper
and leftover lasagna, and we're gonna put all of these
things together and we're going to choke on some Texas toast,
which I think is what the Spurs did. So first
of all, welcome to CSI MSG. It's as CSI MSG.
(08:41):
Doctor Mahler is in and we are now performing a
forensic pathology report, the autopsy on the corpse of the
San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
The Spurs didn't just.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Blow a twenty nine point NBA Finals lead, they donated
it to charity.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
It's taxed to doctor book. Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Now, they were up eighty one fifty two with nine
on the clock above the Mecca in the third quarter,
and that is about the point Mitch Johnson, listen, Mitch
Johnson became Professor Doom, teaching a disaster class as coach.
Over the final twenty one plus minutes, San Antonio fell
(09:23):
like they were at the Alamo.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
That didn't end well. People hear the Alamo. The ending
was not good for the people at the Alamo.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Outscored fifty five to twenty five from the nine to
forty mark of the third quarter to the end.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Of the game.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
And why well, they have an addiction prom addicted to
the three ball. Live by the three, Die by the
three The Spurs Biblical meltdown, which this was. They messed
with the basketball gods with all the moneyballs. They kept shooting.
The basketball gods giveth and the basketball gods taketh away
the spurs offending the mojo of basketball.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
They shot a horrific two of fifteen.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
And I'm just talking about the stretch where they blew
the twenty nine point leads. So the rest of the
game the numbers were different, but two of fifteen from
up twenty nine to losing by one, that's thirteen point
three percent, my computer, like brain tells me. And from downtown,
and they from the floor took thirty five shots when
they went up by twenty nine, they only made six
(10:25):
of them seventeen point one percent on two pointers. Throw
in eight turnovers and four assists, and you have the
collapse combo meal that is fully complete and supersized there
for san Antonio.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
And I didn't play in the NBA. I just don't
think that's good. Oh, your mean malor your mean mailer.
Why would you say that, I.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Mean, what would you think? You think it's easy to shoot? Yeah,
seventeen point one percent. They shot seventeen point one percent
for the four thirteen point three percent from three point
range to close out the game up twenty.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Nine to lose.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Now, Mitch Johnson, who should be fired at this point?
I'd fire him right now. I'd fire him in the
middle of the series.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
What are you doing? What are you doing? Anyway?
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Here's mis Johnson that plausibly for now, the coach of
the Spurs, trying to explain how he just was on
the sidelines for the single greatest suck in the history
of basketball.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Take a listen, Yeah, I mean at the.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Top of the list, just in terms of obviously the
circumstances and the stakes of what we're playing for, and
to put as much good work into that first half
as we did and get the lead that we had
and not finish a job as dress I wanted to
say the least.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
He also said that they needed tough minded plays. He
said they needed some tough minded plays. Now that part
of it is coach speak for my guys turned into
jet puff marshmallows.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
In fact, just to prove I'm not making that up,
here's the coach here, Mitch Johnson talking about tough minded plays.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Listen, I mean, honestly, it was tough. He felt the
momentum too much, trevorcomm I didn't feel that until the
clock hit Zeros. I mean there was times where again
I felt was part of that third quarter, and then
some part probably early mid and the fourth quarter again
where we just we got away from playing the Brandon
basketball got us the lead, and then you saw the
(12:17):
times aggressiveness and the just conviction that we played with
early on dissipated a little bit and they made some shots,
and that's where you felt the momentum a little bit.
We just needed a few more tough minded plays to
finish the job.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Again, that's him calling his team soft. That's the coach
calling his players soft, and he's not wrong. That was
marshmallow soft. We talked about the fluffer nutter this week.
That's a fluffer nutter for San Antonio. Now, Victor Wembanyama,
this is on his resume. Wemby officially earned his pilot's license.
Congratulations Wenby, you are now qualified to fly the vomit
(12:51):
comet choking away the game. Now mentioned, all these numbers
are when the Spurs went up by twenty nine to me,
that's obviously the twenty point from that point on up
twenty nine to the end of the game, Wenby took
twelve shots, he made two of them, two of twelve,
and the final twenty one minutes plus and he went
zero of two from missed a couple of big shots
from the charity strap. And then you've got the Fox
(13:14):
oh Man making our radio network look bad. Daron Fox,
once a Sacramento King, always a Sacramento King. Foxy went
one of seven from the floor with four turnovers in
that fateful stretch from nine to forty to.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Go in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
To the end of the game, including the bone headed
play of the day. That's right, the boneheaded play of
the day, which will be discussed and analyzed, and all
that up one spurs up one thirteen seconds left, and
this is one of those you make the call moments.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Okay, so you're Daron Fox. You have options.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
You could dribble it out, force the Knicks to foul,
you play the foul game and they got a foul
you because the time's gonna run out. Or you could
call a time out and reset and run and play
that way. Well, dearon Fox decided, I don't want to
dribble out and get fouled, and I want to call
a time out. Instead, I'm gonna choose option C. I'm
going to force a layup attempt against a shadow defender
(14:15):
OG and Aenobi who's draped all over me. And what
does Anonobe do? He goes mutambo as we used to
stay back in the day and swats it away and
that set up New York.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
For what turned out to be the game winning possession.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
And again, the basketball gods giveth, the basketball gods taketh away.
And now that said, it's not all bad news for Wemby,
Foxy and Mitch, because these boys have earned the secret
password to the speakeasy at the Sports Suck Bar and
(14:51):
they can now have cocktails with other choke artists, for example,
the Dirty Birds. I see Matt Ryan over there, Julio Jones,
coach Dan Quinn at the speakeasy of Sports Suck.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
They're all in there.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Members of that Yankee team that blew it against the
Red Sox and the American League Championship Series.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Those guys are in there as well, having a grand
old time. Now.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Secondly, on the New York side of things, here the
question how much credit do Jalen Brunson's knicks get for
the comeback? So on the malor big board, not a
list Terry and England on the big board. I'm giving
them five percent. They didn't come back. I'm not going
to call this a comeback. They just waited for the
Spurs to choke on their own puke. And that's exactly
(15:34):
what the Spurs did. And yet the Knicks are getting
I've seen some of the coaches. They're getting a media
tongue bath.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
It is.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
This tongue bath is so deep, I think we need
to call in a lifeguard for safety reason. Now, listen,
Brunson and og An Andobi they played well, obviously down
the stretch, and they combined to score thirty three of
the fifty five points in the twenty nine point comeback
from that point, and they shot twelve of eighteen and
(16:02):
that was obviously great. In fact, it's sixty six point
six percent, which is a sign of the devil, which
is who the Spurs are hanging out with. After that performance,
Bruntson and og look like the adults in the room,
and the Spurs look.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Like the kids in the back of the room that
eat glue. That's what they look like.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
And so you give the Knicks a little bit of
credit for not throwing in the sponge, and so they
kept Scratchy and clong.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I believe that's worth five percent.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
However, the garage band started here, and it was Sergeant
Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band. It is mathematically impossible, mathematically
impossible to rally back from twenty nine points down against
a smart basketball team, against a team that just plays
fundamental basketball. The way that you are able to come
(16:47):
back from twenty nine down, you can't do it without
a little help from my friends or in this case,
the Spurs acting like the Beatles. They were accomplices. Most
games are lost, they're not won. This is a textbook example.
As we said, the said disaster class, absolute disaster class
by the Knickerbockers. Now the final thought here, big picture,
(17:08):
big picture. The Spurs are facing elimination. Things are not
going well. Here's Victor Wembanyama on the state of the Spurs.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
What's going through my mind right now. I think he's
gonna go one of two ways, one of two ways
and a bad one and a good one. And I
know the bad one would be giving up. The good
one would be getting struggler through this, getting more together.
And I know this is what we're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Want to bet on that question?
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Is this NBA Finals in the fridge for Jalen Brunson
and the Knicks up three games to one. So I'm
nodding my head, Yes, this is shocking up. There is
no such thing as momentum, so it's not like the Knicker.
You just gotta have all the momentum going into the
next game. I saw something. I saw a sign that
I'll get to in a second. But as Chicky Baby,
(17:55):
this old you don't even know this guy's are Before
you were alive. There was this guy named chick Hern
who broadcast the Laker games. I actually liked him. I
was around him a little bit back in the day
when I was a young lad, and he would say,
this series is in the refrigerator, the doors closed, the
lights are out, the eggs are cool, and the butter's
getting hard. In a Jello's jigglin. This thing appears to
be vacuum sealed, time stamped, and shoved behind the leftover lasagna.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
That you had back in April.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
The body language, that's to me the tell for this
first big body language guy, Benny body language. I saw
the surrender Cobra. I saw the surrender cobra. That is
a universal sign. Universal hands atop the head. Pose, all right,
hands atop the head as you realize defeat is inevitable,
(18:45):
and you put your hands above your head like that.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
The math ain't math in here.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
The only path for san Antonio back involves twisted ankles,
divine intervention, and some kind of clerical error. And forget
just the nuns that they have in San Antonio. If
the Spurs want to flip this, they need more than
just holy water I'm talking about. They should bring in
(19:10):
a rabbi, a priest, a shaman, voodoo dolls, bags of garlic,
garlic bulbs, the whole thing. San Antonio needs a total
spiritual reboot to ward off the bag juju man.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
They should They should call the Ghostbusters. Who you gonna call?
Call the Ghostbusters? All right? Is the Ben Mahlor Show.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
As we are just beginning here what I need and
this is gonna be a little different, and we'll take
obviously calls. We'll try to work some calls in. We
have a lot of things planned. As it is the
World Cup. Pick them the hoppers in the green room.
I will bring in the hopper to the main studio
here and we'll spin the hopper every team and we'll
go over the rules. Every team has a number in
the World Cup, so we need the callers to be
(19:56):
represented here. So we need a call to represent the people.
So there'll be four teams. Myself, Ben High Loraino will
have a team, Coop will have a team, and then
the people, and you'll represent the people.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
And we want to have somebody new each hour.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
It's very exciting, and we're Wilson, We're worldly people here.
We're not just evil Americans that just worry about America.
We're worried about the world, our brothers and sisters all
over the world. So we'll have the World Cup pick them.
We'll begin that, and we need a caller for that,
and also want to react. Obviously, this is the greatest
choke job in NBA history, not the greatest come back,
the greatest choke job by the San Antonio Spurs. Wake
(20:35):
Up the Echoes eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox
on ex at Ben Malor that's at Ben Mallor the
World Cup Pick them in its entirety it begins.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
We'll get to that. We will do it next.

(21:57):
As we saw the greatest choke job in the history
of pro basket ball. Congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs.
You are the laughing stock of the NBA. Everyone is
pointing their fingers and going haa wow.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Twenty nine point lead. You gagged it away. What an embarrassment,
absolute embarrassment.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
If you'd like to hit us up on X at
Ben Mahlor, that's at Ben Mahlor. You can be part
of the program also on ex Lorena FSR Tech, Queen
My Bell, don't talk to me and Cooper Loop All
Bronco fan. That's a Bronco fan. Your comments can and
(22:38):
will be used against you in the court of sports radio,
So please please act accordingly.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yes, all right, we are pressing on. Yes, we are
pressing on and on and on and on and on.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
As talking to some basketball got the World Cup, the
World Cup pick them, which is coming up, and so
we need to have an on air meeting about the
World Cup pick them, So I think we'll probably do
that right now. So we have to figure out the
points system for the World Cup pick them. A lot
of these teams that we're going to be drafting are terrible.
They're absolutely horrible teams, just complete no chance to win
(23:18):
the World Cup from what I have what I've read,
I've been reading up on the World Cup because I
gotta study for this, although it was really nothing to
study for. We have the hopper. The hopper has arrived.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
You hear that, the mighty all knowing hopper.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Yeah, the hopper is here. It was in the green room,
was having a cocktail.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
It is possibly inebriated, so who knows what that means
for the hopper.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
It seems to be somewhat inebriated.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
So I will I will send the I have alphabetically
organized every There's a number next to each team name
starting with it's alphabetical, so Argentina will be first ball
number one. And who's Beka Stan? Who's Beka Stan?
Speaker 6 (23:59):
Is?
Speaker 1 (23:59):
I guess there's forty Well, there's forty nine teams. Apparently
I thought there was forty eight. Huh wait a.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Minute, so wait, wait, I know it says forty nine.
I think my math might be off. Here is it
is uh Uruguay in there? Let's see here, Turkey, Well,
we're all we have our first mistake. We have our
first mistake on the on the World Cup thing here?
All right, Well it's forty some say forty eight, So
(24:24):
I guess I have forty nine on my my big boar,
how about forty and he's forty eight?
Speaker 8 (24:28):
Yeah, forty eight, and that's what I'm reading.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
All right, let me send you the forty I have.
I have the forty eight I have, and then for
some reason.
Speaker 9 (24:35):
It was I'm sure when we hit one of them twice,
well know right.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Well, some countries I guess go by two different names.
Is that what we're supposed to is that? You know,
they're weird like that? What are you eating? By the way,
this is a time of work. I needed a dib.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
I needed some DIBs. Okay, okay. You know those little
ice cream things you put in your mouth there, like
little bite sized ice cream?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is the least to.
Speaker 9 (25:00):
Melt as you eat them, which makes them so much better.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Yeah, that's the that's the thing, all right.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
So I've said to the see which team doesn't belong coop,
and we'll just take that team out and then we
can we can edit that.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
We'll trim that down as.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
We work our way through here and the reaction of
the people. I do need somebody to do we have
somebody to represent the people here.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Yeah, trim of.
Speaker 8 (25:22):
These people on hold called specifically for that. But I'm
sure that well, I mean, except accept line four there, that's.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Exactly for I don't know. Let me see line four here.
What we got I have to click my board here
line for see one two.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Oh boy, really are you sure about that?
Speaker 8 (25:41):
That's really that's the only person that called specifically for.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
That line for one of the jeez, I don't know
that we want line for all.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Right, Well, we've got to figure out which team doesn't
belong because I have forty eight balls in the hopper.
I don't have forty nine. So we got to throw
a team out. How about that? We can throw a
team out? Who do you want to throw out?
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Tunisia? Do we want to throw them out? Senegal? What else?
Speaker 2 (26:06):
What else we got? We've got Morocco. They're not gonna
win anything, right Morocco?
Speaker 1 (26:10):
I got no change.
Speaker 8 (26:11):
Well, first of all, yes, this is not an alphabetical order.
I mean I've already seen the Algeria and Argentina should
be even swap.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Okay, well that's the order.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Okay, that's the freaking order we're doing here. Okay, everything's um.
You want to go through a number everything you want
to do that, go ahead. You got plenty of time
because we got to do this, like right now, we
have no time.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
This is oh my god, you know what, let me
get some reactions.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
And so I was trying to find the extra country,
and then it confused.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Me, It says.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
The thing I got from it, say, is the tournament
fields forty eight teen some published listed.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Uh okay, here we go, so.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Cobbo Verde and Cape Verde and Ivory Coast and something
else interchangeably. So let's see, Well, what about Ivory Coast
and something else? Is Cabo Verde on there? Oh man,
this is a lot harder than I thought. Forty eight teams.
Speaker 9 (27:15):
Ivory Coast is on there too.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Yeah, I see Ivory Coast.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
But is okay? All right, we'll figure it out. We'll
just start, We'll just go through it, and then what
the end if we have an extra team. There's no
way we'll have an extra teams.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
They get forty eight balls in the hopper, and that's
how it's going to go. Let's see the reaction of
the game. Let's see here at page down. As begel

the weekends in the early days of Fox Sports radios,
like two thousand and Sean had the birth of his

Speaker 1 (28:17):
He's a one of these annoying nick fans. That's just
completely out there. What else do we have?
Speaker 2 (28:25):

Hopefully the hopper was being watched by a certified accounting firm,
so he says. Terry in England says, a list in
our one a a block, absolute high honor for your efforts.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Which is so who who? Well, yeah, it's who am I?
See it's called who am I? Game?
Speaker 2 (35:41):
So the most points per game in the playoffs with
one team sixty or more games in NBA history. You've
got now Jalen Brunson's averaging twenty nine point two with
the Knicks in his career with New York, and he
is trailing only Michael Jordan, Lebron James and me again.
(36:05):
Jalen Brunson averaging twenty nine point two points per game
with the Knicks in his playoff career in New York
and most points per game in the playoffs with one
team sixty plus games. Jalen Brunson trailing Michael Jordan, Lebron
James and me, Who am I?
Speaker 1 (36:21):
That is the question the answer. We'll get to it
and we will do it next.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
So Jalen Brunson at twenty nine point two points per
game with the Knicks in the playoffs, that's the fourth
most points per game in the playoffs with one team
sixty or more games with that team trailing only Michael Jordan,
Lebron James and me. Whom I? That would be the question?
