Cuban taking the Mavericks current owner to court and Luka

(00:53):
Doncik's name mentioned in this and does he have a
winnable case? Also, the Milwaukee Bucks general manager said he
wasn't forced to trade Giannis a dent to Koombo and
it was a mutual decision.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Do you believe him.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
We'll talk about that and what convinced Tim Hardaway Senior
to allow his number ten jersey from the Miami Heat
to be unretired for his son, Tim Hardaway Junior. All
of that and more right about now. It is a
bridge to nowhere. It is our number one.

(04:30):
still late Wednesday in the West, but we're doing our
Thursday show.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
It's a weird thing.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
We've crossed the rubicon in terms of the overnight, so
we had a.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Hodgepodge of options.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
It was debating where to go to begin, and the
thing that caught my attention, and since I still have
editorial control over what I talk about, the story that
I'm most interested in involves the robber barons of sports.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
This hour from Dallas.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
This is not a Jerry Jones story, So calm Down
is not a Jerry Jones story.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
I promise you.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Leada's in Dallas, though, where the Luca Doncik trade was
so bad?

Speaker 1 (05:14):
How bad was it?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
That donation wasn't even a trade, it was a donation
to the Lakers has now literally sparked a lawsuit. How
many trades there have been trades that have caused lawsuits.
This is this is the story. Is this not a
Am I wrong? Am I misreading the room here? This
is not a good story that that trade was so ridiculous. YEA,
not a trade, It was a donation that this has

(05:36):
now created a hum danger of a store. So if
you didn't see it, and perhaps you missed it to
hear about it, we'll give you the details here, the inside.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Skinny, if you will.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
So there's this really rich guy that got very lucky
and made the sweetheart deal with Yahoo years ago, uh
rubbing audio content on the internet and has lived off
that very well as a one percenter ever since then.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
His name is Mark Cuban.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
He bankrolled the Indiana Hoosiers college football championship this past year.
Here well, Mark Cuban claims that he had a handshake
slash verbal deal months before he sold his basketball team
that gave him continued control over basketball ops.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
And we used to call it GM general manager transactions.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
And this guy Patrick Dumont, part of the rich gambling
family from Vegas, that the Dumont crew they would handle
the business stuff, the boring stuff, you know, the real estate,
casino deals, that kind of stuff as opposed to who
gets traded and who gets signed and all that stuff.

(06:53):
Now here's where it gets really dicey. So Cuban sold
about seventy percent of the Maverige. He owns twenty seven percent,
so he still got a stake in the team. This
is Maverick on Maverick crime. According to the court filing,
this guy Patrick Dumont did not honor, did not honor.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
The verbal contract. Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Instead he gave control to that evil Nico Harrison, who
should get his number of retired? The Lakers retire everyone's number.
DeAndre Ayden's getting his number retired. Run on to Nico Harrison,
just give him a number.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
And so Nico Harrison was in control and Cuban was not.
And cuban explicity Mark Cuban in this whole situation referenced
in court documents the Luca trade as evidence that the
handshake agreement was broken.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
So that is a good jumping up point.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Let us discuss the question why is Mark Cuban, Why
is Mark Cuban doing this? It's embarrassing is that now
you're taking you own the team.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
For a while, you.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Sold the team and now years later here you're taking
the Mavericks current owner to court. And also does Mark
Cuban have a winnable case? Does he have a oneable case?
So I've got Keystone, Bucket, Brigade, and rowing, and we
will combine all of these things together and we are

(08:29):
going to make some Texas toast.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
That's what we're going to make.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
So a I want to preface it, I'm not a lawyer,
but I do play one on the radio. So you
should never take legal advice from an overnight talk shows.
That being said, I'm about to give out legal advice.
So technically a handshake deal. These things, believe it or not,
have come up over the years behind these powerful microphones
and the bully pulpit of Fox Sports Radio. It's rather
shocking that this story would come up, but it has

(08:53):
in the past. So a handshake deal can be legally enforceable.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Did you know that it can't? That's the good news.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
The bad news the problem is proof with a capital P.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
So that makes this a hail Mary play.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
If one person, like, let's say I came up to
you and I said, listen, I got a deal.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I'm gonna sell you. I've got this old like this.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Old motorbike thing that I have, and I'm gonna give
it to you, and then you're gonna give me, you know, thirty.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Thousand dollars or something like that. Okay, fine, that's the deal.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
So it's the problem is you just because one person
says you agreed to it, the other one can say no,
I didn't, and then it becomes a credibility contest. Without
a digital paper trail, I'm talking email, text messages, that
kind of stuff, it becomes a credibility contest. Now, as

(09:51):
for the why why has Mark youb been doing this?
This isn't a lawsuit. This is an oligarch temper tantrum,
is what this is. Because he's not the center of
attention anymore, not right. Mark Cuban, one of the great
ego maniacs of our time, is only suing because he
cannot let go of what he had. And his entire

(10:13):
identity was the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
They were it. That was his baby.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
That's my baby right there, his ego project for decades, decades,
and he made a terrible deal. Now, financially, it wasn't
that bad. He got three point five billion dollars. However,
when you take away the emotional stake that he had
in that team. He got out played because he gave

(10:42):
it up. He gave it up, and what he had
as the face of the Mavericks was bigger, right, it
is bigger now. The business people they got the team.
They used some skullduggery, they got the team. And now
he's having sellers remorse and he's been going on. So
instead of admitting, hey, I screwed up on that one

(11:03):
by handing over control without ironclad contracts, he's running to
the courthouse crying about a handshake deal and using Luca
that trade as a very dramatic excuse. And deep down,
if you go to the very core of this, the
lawsuit is just Mark Cuban drinking Keystone light because he's

(11:28):
got bitter beer face is what he's got. He's just bitter,
and I get it, Like, why did he not think
this through?

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Yeah, I already have enough money. You don't need money now.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I heard from somebody that I was chatting with a
few hours ago that said Cuban thought that for some reason,
the price of sports teams.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Are going to go down.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
This was the time to do it, and he wanted
to get in. He misread the market. He misread the market.
That's what someone I chatted with who knows a lot
about these things. That's their theory on this. And so
here we are. Mark Cuban cannot accept the new normal,
and so he's filed a lawsuit against the owner of

(12:09):
the Dallas Mavericks and he's inventing grievances to stay relevant,
kind of claw back some of that influence. He's talked
about why I should buy the team back, Well, the
team's gonna cost more money now and it's not for sale.
It's a classic case of a guy who's entire foundation
is so wrapped up in owning that he's willing to

(12:35):
go with the nuclear option. And you know, like the
Brooklyn Bridge the other.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Day, burn it up, baby, and you know.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Rather than worry about looking petty in public and move
on and just enjoy a great life, a life that
so many of us wish we could have, was just
not having to worry about bills or anything.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
He's just he's a made man.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
And just watch old episodes of Shark Tank, which you
also quit. So Shark Tank and the Dallas Mavericks in
the span of a very short time, so clearly the
spell is not working now. Meanwhile, to Milwaukee, we go,
why well, the Milwaukee Bucks gave away the franchise a
few days ago and they now are facing the music.

(13:16):
The GM John hurt Horst addressed the trade of Giannis
Adenta Coombo.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
To the Miami Heat for the first time now.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
The Bucks GM called trading Yannis quote a very difficult decision.
He acknowledged that Milwaukee is not a better team today
than they were the other day without him, and he
described Bejanness as one of the greatest players to ever
play in the state of Wisconsin for that basketball team.

(13:46):
And you'd have to say he's neck and neck with
Kareem lou Al Sender back in the day. Right, they
both won one championship with the Bucks and they were
VI's in the team one and all that. So the
Bucks framed it as a mutual best interest decision.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
That's how their positioning is.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
It was a mutual best interest decision to reset and
build a sustainable contender, a building a new foundation for
their coach, Taylor Jenkins, who has that great track record
of success. The Bucks GM emphasized he was not forced
to trade Jannis. Wink wink, nudge, nudge. All right, so

(14:28):
that is a good spot. Let's let's kind of jump
off that the question. The Bucks GM John Horst said
he wasn't forced to trade Gianni Sadenta Cumbo and it
was a mutual decision. Do you believe him? So, I'm
I'm not good. I don't have a great poker face.
It's a hard no. I believe every man, woman and

(14:51):
child with even a rudimentary, rudimentary knowledge of basketball knows
that this is gaslighting.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
It is gaslighting.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Dis guy as an argument, and the Bucks general manager
saying that he wasn't forced to trade I dent to Coombo,
that it was a mutual decision. Now, as my friend
Andy Furman likes to point out, we were born at night,
but not last night. You would need a suspension bridge
to support the disbelief required to buy this.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Milwaukee just got.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Completely pants Now, it doesn't look as bad because the
Celtics trade was worse. What they did was worse. It's
not great, though, It's not great right from the entire league.
Get your pants pulled down there and you went commando style,
and the Bucks GM is part of the bucket brigade
doing mop up duty, trying to clean up the mess

(15:43):
and painting this as noble best for both sides, best
being as good as all the rest, of course, like
a reset that is the broad brush equivalent of repainting
a condemned building. Well, why would you do that? Building's
gonna get knocked down by a wrecking ball. That makes
no sense. Why would you paint over it?

Speaker 1 (16:03):
It's just dumb.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
It's it's having a car, a beater car that needs
to go to the junkyard, and you're like, well, let
me take that and get that. Give me let me
get some new tires on that. I'll go to tire rack,
get some new tires and put some new paint on that.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Wy what do you do?

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Like seriously, Now, the truth is Giannis was fed up
and he straight up forced his way out of Milwaukee,
no ifs, hands or butts about it. After years of
quietly sulking and not so quietly checking out, and he
essentially quit. Uh you know, but he started calling out
the box a couple of years ago, and then it

(16:40):
got progressively more and.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
More and more and more and more and more and more.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
So it was I was like, okay, well, he basically
held the franchise hostage until they caved in and shipped
him out. When you start calling out management publicly, that
is a point of no return. And now we I
will give credit to the Bucks because at least they had.
They're not a better basketball team. They're not as good
today as they were.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
The other day. And that is a rare level of
executive honesty.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
And you juxtapose that with Brad Stevens, who treats that
like a severe food allergy. When Boston dropped Jalen Brown
into a Salvation Army bucket, Brad Stevens cowardly used optionality
as a crutch to avoid reality. And the Bucks at
least didn't hide behind any kind of buzzword.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Here. The Greek freak is gone.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
The Bucks will be an irrelevant team for years, and
no amount of corporate spin is going to change that.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
All right, Now, last word to Miami, Miami, Miami.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Why now I know Giannis is there, but this is
about Hardaway, Tim Hardaway Junior. Now, we don't normally care
about guys that are kind of washed up.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
At this point, Hardaway is in.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
As late mid to late I think he's thirty four
to thirty five, something like that, and he's bounced her,
and he's a journeyman NBA player. The sequel not as
good as the not the equal to his dad. His
dad made some headlines though recently, and Sam, I'm not
gonna let my kid wear my old number, and so
Hardaway he signed a one year deal, and it turns

(18:14):
out he will wear papa's retired number ten jersey. I
know you're very concerned about that, the numerical value of
a jersey. But again, the reports last week were that
the father, Tim Hardaway Senior, who I always associated more
with the Golden State Warriors, in the heat, although he
has his number retired by Miami. Of course, the Miami
Heat retired Michael Jordan's number father embarrassing anyway.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
So it turns out this is what happened.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
The question what do you think convinced Tim Hardaway Senior,
the dad here, to allow his Heat number ten retired
jersey to be unretired for his kid. So I have
a theory using some psychobabble. So Tim Hardaway Senior was rowing, rowing,
and rowing the douche canoe, all right, Row row row,

(19:03):
row your douche canoe, clutching his legacy like a bitter
gatekeeper my legacy.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
My legacy is by. It's just by, and.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Like somehow, if the jersey was unretired, all of the
accomplishments would vanish. I just completely vanish if somebody else
his spawn wore the jersey. It's a piece of laundry.
It is not the declaration of independence. The Naked City
never sleeps now. The rumor has it that the Hardaway
family they got together and they staged a much needed intervention.

(19:41):
They sat down or the old man and reminded him
that there's a phrase blood is thicker than retired jerseys,
and they were able to twist his arm that this
was not about erasing the past but extending the family legacy.
All right now, now, Junior, Tim Morroway Junior gets the

(20:04):
number ten jersey. Not that he's going to play a
meaningful role in terms of impact.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
On the heat.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
He's a rotation player who's okay, not great. And you
get the heartfelt nostalgia news conference, you get that the
warm welcome and in Tim Hardaway Senior and it gets
to move on and that's it and he will see
how this goes.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
It is the Ben Mahlor Show.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
As we are just settling into the red eye flight.
This is where we say aber kadabrajocus pocus and presto,
and we open up the phone lines and you can
come on here and bust balls and have a great time.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
And that's what we do it. Yeah, you don't have to.
Most of the ding dongs call up, so you don't
have to call up if you don't want to.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
But if you're feeling it, bon Apetite eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox is the call in number. Eight
seven seven nine six sixties six. Think of this like
the land of Opportunity. All those big, high paid daytime
shows don't take calls.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Right, I don't listen to them, but I don't take calls.
So here you can get out all your.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Microaggressions, all of them. Yes, it's like therapy in a
bunch of different places, but it's you know, we're not
reinventing the wheel heat.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
I'm just kind of wow, I'm not I can.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Play one that was That was my doctor, by the way,
the Genie and Medford was my doctor. And Bill in
Koreatown my lawyer. I have really good advice from the
Mallord militia, really really solid advice. Yeah, eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox. The number also on X at
Ben Mahlor. That's at Ben Mahlor. So it turns out

(21:45):
that the United States men's soccer team not just a
soccer team, they're also sugar daddies.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Did you know that? Yeah, there's sugar daddies. I'll explain.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
We'll get to that the way they are. Yeah, and
we will do it.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Next.

the biggest festival of overnight sports talk radio goodness. It

next day and just stay up all night and enjoy
and bask in the glow.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Of the talent of the men and women.

Speaker 2 (23:48):

That is the f fifteenth into the sixteenth, so mostly
the sixteenth on the West coast.

Mallard Palooza big all right, mean, while you can call

hit us up on social media. We use the X
machine during the live radio program. We used to have
this text line thing, but we got rid of that
a long time ago, so now we just use the
X machine. If you're a Mallard Plus plus subscriber, Jay

(24:30):
Scoop said, Boy, these dopes that don't pay for Malard Plus,
they don't know what's on the show. But if you're
Malard Plus subscriber, you already know what's coming up ahead.
We'll save the rundown for the rest of you peons
that are too cheap to pay for Malard Plus later on.
We'll set that up now. Loraina is here. She can
be found at FSR Tech. Queen Hi Bill, There she is,

(24:53):
and you can say hello to Coop at a Bronco
fan that's uh, Bronco fan. Your comments can and will
be used against you in the court of sports trading.
Late night drug tester, right, I think I hit the
post late night drug tester Rights here. I used to

(25:13):
be a DJ, not a good one because I'm doing
talk radio late night drug tester rights And says, I'm
sure if Cuban wants to get control of a team
decision again, I would gladly let him take over the
Winnipeg Jets.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
I don't know about that, some beautiful outdoor space there
in Winnipeg. I don't know that Cuban Cuban wants to
go there, though, I think there's a better chance that
he relocates to Guam on American Territory. In Guam, Jay
Scoop rights In says, speaking of Mark Cuban bad deals,

(25:50):
think of all the people who pass on the perks
of Mallard plus every month, I recommend bundling it with
Coop Deluxe, with the with the included platinum ticket.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
You'll never wait on hold again.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
That's true. And we got in some trouble. There was
a scandal was that six or seven years ago. There
was a bribe scandal where Coop was. There was accusations
that Coop was taking bribes for people to get on
the air right away, and they investigated it and he
could not really uncover what was going on. Now, Curmudgeon Wayne,

(26:25):
this guy Wayne under Luke, he's really leaning into the
curmudgeon stuff. He says, no rundown again, so we know
what the topics are on taff Is it really that
difficult to spend thirty seconds before the show to put
it out there? Less emojis might make it quicker for
crying out life? Well, curmudgeon Wayne, we've got the new product,
Malard Plus. If you're too cheap to pay for it,

(26:46):
that's on you. It's you know, all the boys over
here that have Malard Plus are like, why Wayne's cheap?
You get the everything sent. We have the table read.
At noon, we do the table read.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
We do the rewrite very specifically for that table read.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Yeah, Lorraine is at the table read. She then has
a latte and goes out and has her day, and
then we do some rewrites. We do a second table
read around three o'clock. We do final edit, final edit
on the show, and we normally put that to bed
about six o'clock and then by six thirty Mallard Plus

(27:23):
subscribers know exactly what we're going to talk about. One
hundred percent, one hundred percent Fat Daddy says Big bentt
must be a slow day of FIFA soccer. For FIFA soccer,
for you'd have to start a monologue with basketball, No,
fat Daddy, it wasn't really a basketball story. It is
the fact that a guy who's an oligarc sold something

(27:44):
for three and a half billion dollars and then didn't
want to sell it because it's his whole identity, and
now he's trying to get it back and it's it's crazy.
Michael and Tulsa writes in and says a plus plus
on the Mallard monologue, Is it possible Giannis, James Harden
and Kawhi Leonard could all get together for the team
of suck? Maybe Mark Cuban could buy that team and

(28:05):
get Luca back.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
Chip in the Q's.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Rites and he says, hey, plus on the Mala monologue.
Sounds to me like Mark Cuban is having sellers remorse.
We saw a big profit, or he saw rather a
big profit. Chip in the Q says, but for good,
but forgot the fact that once he wasn't the majority
the owner of the MAVs anymore, he was going to
lose that personal spotlight. It's one of these weird things.

(28:30):
I mean, you got anything like this. If you own
a sports team, you're an egomaniac. Does anyone disagree with that?
If you're rich. There are plenty of rich people. We
don't know who they are because they don't promote themselves.
They're super wealthy, and a lot of them hide amongst us.
They just live normal lives. Like most of the rich
people I've I've read up on this. A lot of

(28:51):
the really wealthy people don't drive nice cars and wear
bling bling and all that. They live a rather modest life.
The ones that are schmucks and and want everyone to
know who they are, they're the ones to buy sports teams.
Another great example is Jeanie Buss, who did nothing other
than when the genetic lottery and happened to be the
daughter of Jerry Buss, and so she was running leg

(29:13):
Well the Lakers got sold, but she's like, Wow, I'm
still gonna hang out and I'm still gonna be the
kind of the face of the team. Well, you sold
the team. That's when you sell something. It's not yours anymore,
it's not what do we get? The Baltimore Free Loaders
accounts this tonight the Declaration of Independence went for slightly
more money than a Tim Hardaway Jersey. What is Tim's

(29:36):
legacy that he is protecting? As for the Declaration, I'm
glad I bought it.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
It's going to make a.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Great coaster at cocktail parties, wasn't it? How many copies
of the Declaration were made?

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Right?

Speaker 2 (29:50):
When there were a few copies made, and then it
was hard to make things. They didn't have printers back
when they formed the country as we know it, so
it was a little difficult to get stuff printed. And
there were people didn't like just hold on to stuff.
They didn't worship things, items that did not happen.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Great example of that is and I love this story.
When I was in school. One of the few days
I paid attention when I was.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
In school, they talked about at the White House when
they change presidents, they'd have a lawn sale at the
White House that people could come by the old furniture
at the White House, like because the new president would
change the drapes and the soulfron.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Now, then what's that fun?

Speaker 1 (30:37):
That's right? That is a fun fact, Lorraine. That is
a fun fact. Of course.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Now, if you get within like thirty feet of the
White House. They released the dogs at you and if
you get within ten feet, your firing squad, I think.
But back then, back then, it was like, hey, come
on down, hang out.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
With us, to come inside. Yes, I don't know about inside,
but they had a thing.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
And I remember reading that historians were trying to track
down like the old furniture from the early White House
days because it was in people's homes. It was passed
on to other people. It's just a weird I don't
know how I got down that rabbit hole, but here
we are, and we'll move on from that. Femi the
top uber eats driver in the Twin Cities, and what

(31:20):
a great delivery man he is. And he made those
those fun Mallard bumper stickers a few years ago, and
I still see people sending me photos randomly. There I
got a bumper sticker from Femi. Here's in my car,
he says, Ben. Why do all these dopes want to
know what's coming up on the show. Isn't life supposed
to be like a box of chocolates? Yeah, exactly, you

(31:41):
never know what's in store. Well, these guys they're entitled
like Wayne in Duluth, the curmudgeon. And so what we've
done is listen if you want to know what's coming up,
Mallard plus that you get you everything right there. I
don't know much about the Coop Deluxe. I guess that
gets you on the air faster. But Malard plus is

(32:01):
a tremendous item. And I just laid everything out.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
We have the meetings and all that, we go through
the thing. Now.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Meanwhile, the sugar Daddies, it turns out, are US men's
soccer players are not only bad at soccer, they're also
bad at finances. Now, I remember when this deal came
down a couple of years ago, and I had completely
forgotten about it, because why would I remember it. So
it turns out the United States men's national team who

(32:28):
got absolutely given the atomic wedgie by Belgium in front
of a massive TV audience, losing four to one, which
was a humiliation situation, they got exposed. The goaltender looked
like he was playing U soccer on a Saturday at
the local park, waiting for orange slices, defensive blunders all

(32:50):
over the place. Well, despite that humiliation situation, the US
men's national team will reseved sixteen million dollars from the
people were there at FIFA for reaching the round of
sixteen beating up a bunch of tomato cans. However, it
turns out they got some dudes to pay. They're not

(33:11):
just bad at soccer, they're bad at finances.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
They're sugar daddies. Yeah, the US.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Men's national team stars will be forking over fifty percent
of their money to the US soccer women's team, the
national team for the women. Then you might be saying, well, Ben,
why would that be. The women didn't play. I didn't
see a single woman playing out there in the World Cup.
I've been watching I didn't see it. I've been watching
Fox one, I've been buying stuff at home. Deep, I

(33:37):
didn't see any women out there. Why did they get
the money?

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Well, it's all because they complained.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
The ladies bitched and complained when they were not getting
enough money, and so they worked out a deal because
at one point the women had.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
I don't really follow women's soccer. I guess they're not
very good anymore. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Anyway, from what I was reading about this back in
twenty twenty two, there was a collective.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
Bargaining agree and even for a single.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Dollar reaches the pockets of the US men's national team.
The Soccer Federation of the US will keep twenty percent
of the money. So they get twenty percent, and then
they break it down. The rest of the twelve point
eight million will be divided equal.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
And that's the way it goes.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
So in just in basic malor math, that means the
women who did not play a single minute in this
World Cup, because it's the men's World Cup, will each
receive two hundred and forty six thousand dollars per player
without even participating in the twenty twenty six feet a
World Cup meeting.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
The US men's national team truly sugar daddies of soccer
in that while man, what a deal for the ladies.
That's great. That is who was a female soccer player? Right?

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Come on now, yeah, I'd like to be a female
soccer player.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
My god, holy crap.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
We can make that happen.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
So yeah, I guess it's these days. It is possible
with the Frankensteind or whatever. But anyway, the US women's
national team, their share will sit.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Here's it gets even better.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
So it's gonna sit in an interest bearing account, and
so they'll make money on it, and then they'll get
that money at the end of the twenty twenty seven
FIFA Women's World Cup, which I guess is a thing.
So how about that two hundred or two hundred thousand bucks.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
And they didn't do a damn thing. Isn't that great?

Speaker 2 (35:39):
I mean, not for the dudes. You know, the dudes
do all the work and the ladies get the money.
Where were we seen that before? Lawn God, Larry says,
Get off my lawn, he says. And Manuel and Guardina
already answering the who am I game question, which we
haven't even given out yet. I wonder if that's an
automated message from Manuel and Guardina things that.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
Make you go home? All right? Anyway, let's get into
it right now. And here is the who am I?

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Game?

Speaker 1 (36:06):
This is again where we pretend to be somebody else?
As we call it, the who am I? Going?

Speaker 2 (36:09):
So Detroit Detroit Tiger pitcher justin Verlander. We'll talk more
about this later. He's announced he's going to quit. Of course,
he's not gonna quit now, because why would you do
it now? You can't play anymore. He's gonna wait until
the end of the year.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
I guess it doesn't matter the Tiger's blow anyway this season.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
So Tiger spitcher Justin Verlander and I are the only
players in MLB history to win Rookie of the Year,
Cy Young and MVP awards in our careers. Again, Justin Verlander,
who announced, of course he'll be on the All Star
team because you know, hey, let's kiss his ass, just
like they did with Kershaw last I believe it was

(36:46):
the last year. Anyway, Tiger spitcher Justin Verlander and I
are the only players in baseball history to win the
Rookie of the Year, Cy.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Young, and MVP awards in our careers. Who am I?
That is the question. The answer will get to it,
and we will do it next.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller

about that? A reminder, I need to promote this more
because I got a bunch of email. Oh, your show
was covered up by some soccer thing or something like that.

to prepare. That's life. You gotta be ready. And if
for some and somebody makes a bad programming decision and
does not put a show on at the time it's
supposed to be on live, we get covered up.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
We do the show no matter what. Like that's just
the way it works.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Like if you do local radio, you get a day
off if the team's playing and you're not on. We
don't do that though. We have to work no matter what.
So come, rain and sleep the whole thing. So go
