And how big was that win for Kyle Shanahan and
the Niners over the big bad bullies, the Rams? Also,
Coach Mike McDonald in the Pacific Northwest said the Seahawks
got really, really good news on Sam Darnold, even though

(00:34):
he's not going to play in the next game for Seattle.
How did you process that? And do you believe Cardinals
coach Mike LeFleur, when he says he's feeling pretty good,
Feeling good about Jeremiah Love and his chances of playing.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
We will go there as well. All of it coming
your way.

Yours. And it is our realm here in the audio world.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And a reminder later this hour. Back where it all started.
The great homecoming episode. Benny versus the Penny. We'll do
the monologue and then you'll be on the receiving end
of all the key games. We'll break them all. All
the big matchups in the NFL. We're going to break
them down. Not scientifically, but we'll break them down here

(03:39):
on this show. We'll tell you who we like and
why we like the teams that we like. So far,
1-0-1 this weekend to begin the NFL season.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
We took the Niners and the points. That worked out.
They won.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I thought they would lose and cover the spread. They
won the game outright. And the Seattle-New England game, that
was a push. Our lead, though, this hour is from Australia.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
More on the Game 2 matchup. Game 2 matchup as
the 49ers and the Rams went at it. And if
you saw this game, you know it was not much
of a game in terms of competition here. The much-celebrated
Ram defense allowed the Niners to convert. on almost 60%

(04:31):
of their third downs, keeping possession of the ball for
some sustained drives. If you look at the 49er offense,
they started the game with a 15-play, 65-yard drive. They
only got a field goal out of that. They held
on to the ball for seven minutes of game time,

(04:51):
controlling methodically, converting on third down. So they got a
field goal on that drive. They also had an 11-play drive,
a 9-play drive, And the Rams, on the other hand,
they only had one somewhat meaningful drive. They had a 12-play,
72-yard drive. And they ended up turning the ball over
on downs because Matthew Stafford, for some reason, they keep...

(05:13):
I don't know why they would even think about running
a quarterback key, but the guy can't... He can't move
like that.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
And yet McVay called it dum-da-dum-dum-dum.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
And it got stonewalled at the goal line.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
The Niners defensive... front held.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
And that's that so that was it and then the
rams had a drive and garbage time that also was
10 plays but that doesn't really count that doesn't really
count so the niners win 27 to.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
7 and while normally the.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Better stories in the losing locker room we are going
to focus on the winning side as i blatantly suck
up to all of our listeners in northern california so
there you go this is for you this is for
ernesto And Jay Scoop and all the big Niner fans.
All the big fans of the show that.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Love the Niners. So that's a good jumping off point.
Let us discuss the question.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
How big was this 49er win for Kyle Shanahan and
company as they get her done and knock off the ramp?
So my observations on this, I've got Operation Repo, Gift Basket,
and Bounty Napkin.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
And we will combine all of these things together.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
And you and I are going to have a date
with destiny when Benny versus the penny returns shortly.
.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So the Rams are, whether you like it or not,
the measuring stick in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
They are the bar. Now, right now, that is a
low bar to clear. It's not a high bar. It's
a low bar.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
The Rams, as the measuring stick in the NFL going
into the season, and make no mistake, for the 49ers,
this was a placement test. And San Francisco walked out
of Australia. They boarded their jet back to America with
a puffy sticker and a juice box. Not just a
puffy sticker, not just a juice box. They got both.

(07:22):
They got both.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
How about that? Yeah. They didn't just beat L.A.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
The 49ers went Operation Repo is what they did. The
Niners were repo men. And they actually and I didn't
show this for some reason on Netflix. They didn't show this,
but they repossessed the hype machine. from the Rams and
then they changed the locks on it. Now, Brock Purdy's
getting a lot of love. He had three touchdown passes

(07:48):
and a passer rating of over 100 and people are
fired up about Brock Purdy and all that. Well, I
will be the voice of reason here. I reached my
boiling point when I kept seeing all this amazing commentary
about how Brock Purdy shoved it down the Rams' throats
and all that. Purdy was obviously not Joe Montana. He

(08:09):
wasn't Steve Young. He wasn't Jeff Garcia. He was Mr.
Checkdown with a hall pass. Brock Purdy averaged six yards
per throw. This is not some kind of aerial warfare
by the 49er offense. It's essentially going house to house
and putting flyers on everyone's door, house to house.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
He dinked and dunked.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
He threw an interception and still ended up using enough
paper cuts to beat the Rams. And it was essentially
football oatmeal that Brock Purdy was serving up, and the
Rams choked on the oatmeal. And to think about the
Niner franchise, they had that 11-day scandal with Kyle Shanahan,

(08:53):
the faux accident. the police cover-up, and a lot of
funny business, right? That's definitely not kosher, what was going
on with Shanahan. It makes you wonder, why would you
not release the video? What are you hiding? Why did
you wait 11 days? The NFL has been known to
cover a lot of things up over the years, so you.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Wonder if there was some payouts that took place. I
don't know. You don't know for sure.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
And so that happened, radio silence for 11 days, and
then the gold standard, the billionaire owner, looking to get
a little nookie in a double-wide trailer at an Ohio
mobile home park there. And the 49ers, so they desperately
needed a normal night, or I guess a normal morning,
because this game was played at 1030 in the morning
there in Australia at local time, and they got it.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
It's alarming for the Rams.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
It is a booster shot for the 49ers' confidence, and
the Niners will be fine if everyone stays out there.
Of course, the NFL injury rate is 100%, so Check
back midseason when McCaffrey's dinged up and Bosa's.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Out and Warder's got a bump over here and Brock
Purdy misses a couple of games.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
And then we'll see how the Niners are at that
particular point. Now, one of the other teams that you
got to look at in the NFC West would be
in the Pacific Northwest. So we hop, skip, and jump
to Seattle. We have a follow-up update. Follow-up update. The
injured Seahawks quarterback, Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold will be right

(10:21):
back on the field this upcoming weekend for week two
of the NFL. No. Sam Darnold is expected to miss
at least week number two. The Seattle football team.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Has a bye.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
They play Arizona. Play Arizona, which is not a real
NFL team. Darnold went out with a right hip injury.
If you saw the game on Wednesday night, you know that. Now,
despite the news that Darnold's going to miss at least
one game, Mike McDonald had a farm EIEIO, and Mike
McDonald called the MRI results, quote, really, really good news. Really,

(10:57):
really good news. He said that Darnold's hip is intact.
So apparently he didn't leave it on the field. He
did not lose his hip while he was playing football
against the Patriots. So Darnold's hip is intact, and the
injury appears to be a muscular problem rather than a
structural problem, meaning the pillar of the hip. Darnold did

(11:18):
spend the night resting comfortably at a Seattle area hospital
after experiencing a large amount of discomfort. So McDonald said
the Seahawks don't yet know exactly how long Sam.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Darnold will be sidelined.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
But we're hearing whispers around the echo chamber that he's
likely going to miss more than one game. And they say, well,
he'll be back sooner rather than later. And then there
was a quote going around by the coach that they.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Dodged a bullet Okay, so, question.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
You got the coach, Mike McDonald, who said the Seahawks got, quote, really,
really good news on Sam Donald, even though he's going
to be out. So how did you process this? How
did you process this? On this one, Seattle is ringing
the church bells because Sam Darnold did not get sentenced
to injured reserve.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Congratulations. Congratulations.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
They have diagnosed nothing, right, in terms of the prognosis.
I should phrase that differently. They have a diagnosis, but
they don't have a prognosis. which is seemingly the part
that tells.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
You when the players are going to come back. So, again,
they have a diagnosis. They don't have a prognosis.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
And muscular rather than structural is NFL medical jargon. It's
the kind of gift-wrapped, gift basket, happy talk slop that
you get. Teams shovel this happy talk slop into little baskets.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
And the actual answer is we have no effing idea.
We don't know.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
And then he tossed in a sooner rather than later,
which is beautiful. Put that right next to day to day,
which is also classic in the Museum of Meaningless Football Phrases. Now,
if they initially feared and this is the chatter that
Seattle thought this was a grade three tear for Sam Donald.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
I'm not a doctor.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few
days ago. So Sam Donald, they thought was a grade three.
That would have meant he would have been out for
eight to 10 weeks at minimum, if not season ending.
If not season ending. So they were thinking it was
a grade three. And now it's either a grade one
or a grade two.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
The hammy. Did it go whammy? So that's the deal
of that.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
So Darnold could still be out for one to five.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Well, he's obviously about one week, but up to five weeks.
If it's a grade two.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
So where I sit on this side of the microphone,
despite all the propaganda from JJ and Renton and our
buddy Nostradinas, I'm looking at this and I'm like, OK,
so I don't think that's dodging a bullet. That's hearing
gunshots and realizing nobody has checked to see if there's
any holes in your body. So you got the backup,

(14:11):
Drew Locke, who gets the football. And Seattle, as we mentioned,
they've got a bye this week.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
They play the Cardinals. who are not trying to win.
They've got them.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
And so Washington, this is in week two, and they
play the Washington Commanders, which is a dumb name for
a team.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
It should be the Redskins. So they can send thank-you
baskets to Arizona and Washington.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Now, if you have to wander into quarterback purgatory, at least–
you have scheduled a minibar which is loaded, an absolutely
loaded minibar.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
So that's good.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Now, final point to a team we mentioned that's not
trying to win, and that's the Arizona football team. So
Cardinals coach Mike LeFleur, Mike LeFleur.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Wonder how he got the job. Oh, that's right, his
brother coaches the Packers.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
So Mike LeFleur is trying to ease concern about the
rookie star running back, Jeremiah Love. who suffered a high
ankle sprain in mid-August, the next great savior of the
woe-be-gone Arizona Cardinals. Now, Love has not practiced or played
since the aforementioned injury, although the Arizona rookie head coach

(15:24):
says he has begun moving around.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Well, that's good.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
On the practice field, LeFleur offered really no detail on
what the plan was describing LeFleur, The player, Jeremiah Love,
as simply progressing and saying that the picture should become
clearer once official.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Practices begin, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, which I believe.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
They already have, asked directly about Love's chances of playing
week number one against the aforementioned Chargers. Number one.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
This Sunday, LeFleur said, yeah, I feel good about that.
He said, all right, close quote. Question.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Do you believe rookie Cardinals coach Mike DeFleur when he
says he feels good about Jeremiah Love, the next great
running back in the NFL's chances of playing this weekend?
So this is pure, unadulterated coach speak. Gobble the gook.

(16:25):
Built entirely around what we like to call in these
parts the Holy Trinity of of vagueness progressing and i
feel good yeah this show is progressing it's progressing the
only way the show goes backwards is when you download
the podcast and then you can rewind the show in

(16:48):
real time the show is progressing and i feel good
the word progressing one of the great weasel terms in
the english dictionary a corpse is technically progressing towards.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Breaking apart into bite-sized.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Pieces and all that. Lorena was telling me a story
about it. She gave me a good corpse story earlier,
so it was in my head here. as the body decomposes.
But anyway, I feel good. That quote, I feel good,
is not a medical diagnosis. It is in no medical journal.
I feel good. In fact, our old buddy Jed Who Fled,

(17:26):
who I believe is currently not available to call the show,
Jed Who Fled felt great after a plastic baggie of
the good stuff, but nobody was out there clearing him
out of the swampland in Florida to take handoffs.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
For the Buccaneers in the backfield.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
So the injury update, this particular injury update has the
nutritional value of a soggy bounty napkin.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yum, yum to my tum tum.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
And at this point, NFL injury news conferences are not
even updates anymore.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
They're not.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
They are just organized misinformation sessions set up in front
of a wall of microphones. Mike LeFleur is standing up
there slinging pure snake oil straight out of the Arizona
Cardinals traveling medicine show.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Around the country.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
So that's like one guy I want to see is
this guy Jeremiah Love.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
He's got the name of a star.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Do we all agree on that? That's a name of
a star, Jeremiah Love. It sounds like one of those
fake names they'd come up with. Back when Hollywood used
to make movies that were actually good and not just
Marvel movies, that they would come up with a script
and they'd have that star running back who went to
Notre Dame and his name is Jeremiah Love. Oh, man,
that would be a great name. They don't really do

(18:50):
that anymore. I'm still curious to see if this guy
can be good. It's very difficult to be a successful
running back on a dog food team. Because what happens,
they box you up.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
They make the.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Crappy quarterback, in this case, Jacoby Brissett, throw the ball,
which leaves little room to run the ball, which becomes problematic.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
It is the Ben Maller Show.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Now, one thing that is not problematic is Benny versus
the Penny. We have handpicked the top matchups in the NFL,
the ones that we are most interested in. We've got
the grade eight, and we will break them down. If
you've never heard Benny versus the Penny before, that means
you're kind of new to the show.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
We've been doing this for.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Many, many decades on the radio. And then it was
so popular it went on television. It was on national
television for a couple years, on regional cable TV.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
But it was on nationally for a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
And we did it on YouTube last year. But we're
returning it to its roots, at least for now. It'll
be on the radio. And you'll get it straight ahead.
No calls this hour. You can comment if you want
to add on. to what I'm analyzing in terms of
what I think is going to happen in these games.
You are more than welcome to chime in on the
X Machine at Ben Maller. But no calls this hour.

(19:58):
It'll be Benny versus the Penny for the rest of
the hour.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
We'll get to that and we will do it.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Next be sure to catch live editions of the ben
maller show weekdays at 2 a.m eastern 11 p.m pacific
on fox sports radio and the iheart radio app fox
sports radio is taking over youtube and you can be
a part of it just go to youtube and search
fox sports radio hit that subscribe button and smash that
notification bell and catch all the videos from your favorite

(20:28):
shows two pro The Ben Maller Show on Fox Sports
Radio as we continue on on a very important day
here to remember 25th anniversary.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Wow. 25th anniversary of September 11th, and we're doing what

(21:01):
many people need on this day, overnight talk radio.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Very important, yes. Sports radio.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Reminder, later on, we've got the fifth hour podcast, and
that'll be a spinoff, obviously, of this show and a
chance to catch up.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Just an excuse to talk to one of the people
that helped influence.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
My career in radio, the great Ross Porter, a longtime
Dodger broadcaster.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Let's play baseball trivia on Dodger Talk. The great Ross
will stop by and he'll be on the fifth hour
later on today.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
So here's some stories. He's had an amazing life in
broadcasting whatnot. So you'll hear tales that have never been
told before on the fifth hour podcast. So check it out. Meanwhile,
let's strike up the band. Let's not waste any time.
You know what time it is. Here we go.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
We get the big, big imaging thing here to get
the party started. Here it is. Two seconds. All right.
A little razzle dazzle. I know it's a surprise. I
didn't promote Benny versus the Penny. But here it is.
It's a complete shock that we're doing it here. And
I don't know why. Well, that's a good time.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Welcome, players.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
You're welcome.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Are you up for more Malheur Mayhem?

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah!

Speaker 3 (22:10):
It's time now. Benny versus the Penny.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
And it is back.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
I would say by popular demand.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
I don't know that that's the case. But it is back.
Benny versus the Penny, the iconic bit. and we don't
really have music playing or whatever. I don't know. We'll
work out the kinks here eventually.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
I did get a message from one of my key
insiders who was demanding, absolutely demanding, said we cannot do
Benny vs. the Penny without the classic tune from back
in the day, or it's not the authentic Benny vs.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
The Penny.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
So we'll have to go in there and find Pink
Floyd's Money and then play that.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
But in the meantime.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
If you're new to the show, this has been off
and on radio for many, many years. It's a hobby
that I have. I like to handicap NFL games against
the spread. Makes it more enjoyable for me when I
watch the games. I've been doing this many years. Some
years I've done really well. I've gotten killed some years
against the spread. And I was doing really, really well

(23:11):
on the podcast version of this, on the Fifth Hour podcast.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
And then we went on television and I just... pooped the.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Bed on television, which was very, more embarrassing than radio
because people could see me drowning on a weekly basis
over there on NBC. But we're back on radio, so
back to winning. And so far we have not lost.
We are 1-0-1 against the spread. Had a push on
the Patriots-Seahawks game. The three points there, that game finished

(23:42):
with a three-point line. Took the Patriots, so that didn't
work out. blown 10-0 lead by the Patriots, a bunch
of patsies. And then we gave you the 49ers plus
the points in Australia, and that worked out to be
an outright win.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Didn't need the points.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
We thought the Rams would win, but the Niners would cover.
So we have handpicked eight games. The way this works
is if you're, again, someone that's not heard the bit,
Koopaloop will be representing the penny, so he will flip
the penny in the air everywhere, and that's how that works.
And Benny versus the penny, very simple. Now, they've tried

(24:17):
to get rid of the penny, which is a bad
job by them.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Oh, here we go. Here we go. Now I'm in
the mood. See, you had to get me in the mood, Lorena.
Now I'm in the mood.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
Why wouldn't you tell me this was your song days ago?

Speaker 1 (24:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
Like I've never played this.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
I assume everyone knows everything.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Anyway, so we flip the penny in the air and everywhere.
And you say, well, what is heads?

Speaker 1 (24:44):
You know, heads.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Well, what is that? Well, that's the home team. Tails
is the road team because you sit in your tuchus
when you go on the road.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
And so that's how that works.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
And these are all lines from our friends over at DraftKings.
So factor that in. Lines are subject to change. So
this is as of when we started handicapping these games. Again,
eight hand-picked games. So let's get the party started. First
up on the board, the Atlanta Falcons and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

(25:15):
This game in the land of the yinzer. It's on Fox.
You better watch.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
You're not... I'm telling you, you better watch. You're not gonna... No?

Speaker 5 (25:25):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Well, this game featuring, I believe, Joe Davis and Greg Olson.
have the call, if I'm not mistaken, on this game
on the Fox box that rocks.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
So they will have a call there.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
And Steelers were a three-point favorite, and they have now
gone all the way up to five-and-a-half-point favorites for Pittsburgh
at home with Aaron Rodgers in what is going to be,
he says, his final season as quarterback in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Now, the reason for this line movement is an injury.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
And the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, not expected to play.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
In this game as of the time we're doing Benny
versus Penny.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
Tua Tungabailoa injured during practice, and that means that Cooper
Rush is expected to start at quarterback for the team
from Atlanta, and that is why... There are such big points.
But it's not that Tua's that much better than Cooper Rush.
It's just that Cooper Rush is that much worse than

(26:34):
every other quarterback in the NFL. The wise guys are
leaning towards the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
However, remember, the numbers, most of the bets by the professionals.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
As I understand, are done early on. They get their
money in when they like the line. The line has moved.
So the Sharps liked Pittsburgh at minus 3. The line's
inflated now. I'm going to take the line value here.
I am going to take the Atlanta Falcons plus the 5.5.
I don't think Pittsburgh's good enough to blow anybody out.
And I do believe Atlanta will have a pretty good defense.
And they have Bajon Robinson, who should be able to

(27:08):
make a couple of plays here. Atlanta trying to shorten
the game. Pittsburgh's not going to score that many points because...
they have a plodding offense. They don't have too many
playmakers there in Pittsburgh unless they picked up somebody I
didn't see on my depth chart here. And Tua's dealing
with an oblique injury.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
He was limited.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
So as I mentioned, Cooper Rush is going to play quarterback.
So you feed the ball to Bajon Robinson, get out
of the way. And the Falcons do have some decent
playmakers with Drake London and Kyle Pitts and whatnot. So
you can just throw that quick passing game, screen plays,
play action, get the ball to those guys. And not
that Cooper Rush is all that good, So I'm going
to take the Atlanta Falcons. I'll take the point spread

(27:46):
value with the five and a half. And the penny picks.
Koopa Loop flipped the penny in the air everywhere. Let's
see where that penny lands.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
Ben, when you did this on TV, did you guys
lie about the penny or did you really flip a penny?

Speaker 2 (28:04):
No, not only did we flip the penny, my buddy,
one of the big executives at NBC, he lives in Philadelphia,
and he made sure he was the keeper of the penny.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
I didn't even know who the penny picked before the show.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Are you saying this is not a fine oil machine, Coop?
Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 5 (28:19):
I'm just saying I feel bad because, like, I— Again,
we've got the penny picks, the Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Oh, my God. All right. Well, that's not.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
I mean, that's just it.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
I'm flipping an actual penny here.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
That shows you it's authentic. He really did. He really did. But, no,
that's good, though. That shows you it's authentic.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Yeah. Yeah. And it makes it easier, Coop, when I'm
watching these games because then I don't have to worry
about 8,000 games. There's only a couple that were different.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
That's true.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Next up, we have the Chicago Bears and the Carolina Panthers.
And this game is on Fox as well. We didn't
pick the game just because it's on Fox, but it
is on Fox. Adam Amin and Drew Brees have the call.
And you say, well, what's the weather going to be like?
You always worry late in the year about the snow
and the bad weather and all that. Well, early in
the year, you worry about the heat. And it is

(29:08):
going to be toasty on Sunday at 1 o'clock in Charlotte.
87 degrees, a slight chance of thunderstorms there. In the
Charlotte area, so some hot summer weather for Carolina and
the Chicago Bears.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
The Bears again, the road team.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Bears a three-point favorite in this game. And where is
the wise guy money on this? The sharp money pointing
towards the Chicago Bears here as they're getting most of
the money, most of the bets. on DraftKings based on
the information that we have at this time. Now, the
reason for that is injury. The main reason the Bears

(29:49):
are getting the pick from the wise guys is the injury. Now,
I'm going to take the Bears also, and I like
the logic of this. Carolina is opening the season without
both of their starting tackles. That seems to be a
bad thing for me. I didn't play in the NFL,
but it would seem to me if you're playing both

(30:11):
your backup tackles against a pretty good Chicago defense, that's
not going to end very well. We know Bryce Young's
not very good. Even when he gets protection, he's not
very good. Can you imagine what it's going to be
like when the Bears' defense collapses on the edges and
forces Bryce Young to speed up his already crappy clock
and what a debacle that's going to be and get

(30:33):
the Chicago Bears defense forcing Carolina into those third and
long situations where You're for something. I'm not betting on
the Bears because of Caleb Williams.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
I'm not a big Caleb Williams fan.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Even though many of my friends in Chicago worship at
the altar of Caleb Williams.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
Bottom line here, the Bears will win.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
They will cover, and they'll turn that Carolina offensive line
into mashed potatoes.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Take the Bears. Take the Bears. The Petty Picks. All
road teams all the time, Ben.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
But the penny also likes the Bears.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
This is ridiculous. This is absurd. This is illogical.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
All right, next up, we got to move on. All right,
next up for us, let's go down to the Baltimore Ravens.
A new coach here for the Ravens as Harbaugh took
off to the Giants.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
They fired him.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Ravens opening up here a three-and-a-half point favorite. Ravens minus three-and-a-half,
minus three-and-a-half over the Indianapolis Colts. This game being played.
in Indianapolis, which means who cares about the weather? Because
it's in a dome. It'll be 85 outside, but perfect
conditions inside there at the dome in Indianapolis. And the

(31:48):
wise guys, the sharp money backing the The team from Indianapolis,
the public likes Baltimore, so we have a split on
this game. I'm going to take the Indianapolis Colts plus
the three and a half. And the reason for this,
I don't trust the Ravens are all the way back.
A lot of changes there in Baltimore. I don't know

(32:09):
what to make of this new coaching staff. I want
to see what they've got there. Jonathan Taylor is really good.
Should be able to shorten the game there. Keep Lamar
Jackson on the sidelines there. And hide Daniel Jones, pick
your spots with that. And it's not like the Colts
have to stop Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
They don't.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Just force the game to be close, long drives, methodical
drives here and whatnot. And so I'm going to take
the Indianapolis Colts here at home plus the 3.5.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
And....

Speaker 1 (32:43):
The penny picks. Let's see here. Put the penny in
the air everywhere like you don't care. Come on. Don't.
Come on. Come on, Coop. Don't do this to me.
Come on.

Speaker 5 (32:54):
Penny pick the Colts.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
So we've done now five games, three here and then
two the other. And the pennies pick the same thing
I've picked every game.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
Every time.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
What's the point of the pick?

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Do you want the penny to go first next time? Yeah,
you know what?

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Maybe we will. How about that?

Speaker 3 (33:14):
All right.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Let's do one more game real quick here. Buccaneers and the–
this is absurd. Buccaneers and the Bengals– This game is
on Fox. You've got Kevin Kugler and Daryl Moose Johnston
on the call. So that is the broadcast matchup here.
The Bengals, a three and a half point favorite at home,

(33:37):
partly cloudy, 83 degrees in that beautiful city. of Cincinnati
right on the shores of the Ohio River on Sunday afternoon.
I normally go first, but I'll let the penny pick.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Go ahead, Coop. Let the penny pick. Go ahead. Let's
see who the penny likes.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
La, la, la, la, la, la, la.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
The penny likes the Bengals.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Stop it. We're going to get canceled from radio. This
is so stupid. This is like the worst bit in
the history of radio bits. Yeah, I like the Bengals too, Coop.
Here's why.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Jeez. All right, listen.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Is it Benny and the Patriots?

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Is it the penny or it's penny versus the penny?
It's just Benny picking games and the pennies agreeing with me.
It's the amen choir. It's the amen choir.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
The penny is so devastated from being canceled by the
United States government that they're like, all right. Anyway, listen, Tampa,
I'm looking at Joe Burrow here, should be able to
attack the Bucs secondary. The Bucs much better last year
anyway against the run versus the pass last season.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
I know it's a new year.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
There's new players and all that. The Bucs not as
good as they were last year. They're not– They're lacking
playmakers on offense, mainly Mike Evans. A couple other guys
left in the offseason. And I'm looking at Cincinnati, and
they're healthy for the most part right now. And you've
got two big play bazookas out there, Torpedoes and Jamar
Chase and T. Higgins, who were full participants of practice

(35:09):
on Thursday. And Tampa, they're secondary. And good luck. You're
going to give up some chunk plays. And that's a problem.
We like the moxie of Baker Mayfield and all that,
but he turned the ball over a ton last season.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
He's very erratic, and you do that, good luck.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Now, Cincinnati historically in recent years has not been very
good early in the season.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
But that tells you what has happened, not what's going
to happen.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Bottom line, I am going to take the Bengals just like.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
The stupid Petty. So, so far, one, two, three, four, five, six.
We're six for six. Will we continue?

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Up next, we've got a showdown between the Bills and
the Texans.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
We've got that. And real quick, I will give the
instant trivia.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Then we've got to get back to the games because
we are up against it, as we say in the
radio business.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
Here's the instant trivia.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Blank leads the NFL with 34 touchdown receptions on go-slash-fade
routes or routes since 2018. Seven more than the next
closest player. That's the instant trivia. The answer, we'll get
to it. We'll do it!

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Next.

Comment.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
That Fs up the algorithm. We get in the algorithm.
More people watch. It's all fake on the Internet, but
watch the videos.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Come on.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
I'm told I'm not supposed to say it's all fake,
but watch the videos on YouTube. Please check it out.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right, time now
for the Insta Trivia. Quickly, and we'll get back to
Benny versus Penny.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Blank leads the NFL with 34 touchdown receptions on go-fade
routes or routes since 2018, seven more.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Than the next closest player. That is the question. What's
the answer?

Speaker 2 (37:15):
We don't have a lot of time to give bogus answers.
So we'll just pick a couple here.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Hell, I don't have time for
any of them. Go ahead, Lorena. What do you think
the answer is, Lorena?

Speaker 5 (37:27):
It's a me, a Mario.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Mario. No, it is Mike Evans now of the 49ers.
Mike Evans of the 49ers. Back to the games. We go.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Next up, we've got the Buffalo Bills and the Houston
Texans on Benny versus the Penny. The Bills, a one
and a half point favorite on the road. This game
in Houston, it is on CBS, Iron Eagle and Ross Tucker,
who I at.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
One point worked with years ago in another gig. And
they will have the call here.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
And the game in a dome, you mean 92. So
it's good in domes. Chance of thunderstorms there in Houston
on Sunday. The sharp money.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Is actually on Houston as a small home.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Dog, public liking Buffalo. I'm going to take the Texans
in this game. I'll take the Texans here as that defense.
I certainly don't like the Texans offense, but the defense
should cause problems. A lot of problems for Josh Allen,
who historically has been terrible. Hadn't won a game as
a starter yesterday. In that building in Houston, that tells
you what has happened, not what's going to happen here.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Low scoring, close game.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
I'm going to take the better defense, which is the
Houston Texans and the Penny Picks.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Here we go. Will it be seven for seven?

Speaker 5 (38:46):
It is seven for seven, Ben.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Oh, come on!

Speaker 2 (38:48):
No!

Speaker 1 (38:53):
How is this possible?

Speaker 5 (38:54):
I'm telling Lorena the pennies picked before you even say yours.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
I don't even care.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Astronomical odds. The Packers at the Vikings on CBS. Jim
Nance and J.J.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
Watt. I wonder if Tony Romo is going to watch
this game.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Anyway, it's in the Twin Cities this weekend, so that
means it's obviously in a dome, which means the weather.
Who gives a rat's ass about the weather because it's
in a dome, and so you don't have to worry
about it and all that, but it will be in
the 60s, so nice cool weather there. in Minnesota for
this game. In terms of where the sharp money is,

(39:29):
that would be on the side. of the Vikings as
a small favorite. Green Bay actually opened a one-and-a-half point
favorite in this game. The Everything flipped around, so the
Vikings are now a small favorite. You know I don't like,
do not like Kyler Murray. Not a big Kyler Murray fan. However,
you look at that Green Bay offensive line, and that

(39:49):
is some Swiss cheese right there.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
So a lot of injuries there.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
The Packers entering with three starting offensive linemen on the
injury report. So even if they play, how effective are
they going to be? And you don't really know what's
going on there with the quarterback, Jordan Love.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
Inconsistent.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
And certainly against Brian Flores, one of the better defensive coordinators,
that's problematic. So I am going to take the Minnesota
Vikings and the Petty Picks.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
We did it, Ben. The Penny Picks, the Packers.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
All right. We got limited time here, so it's going
to go real quick. Giants and Cowboys. I'm going to
take the Cowboys minus three on the road on NBC.
The Penny Picks quickly.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
Coop, no imaging. Who's the Penny Pick? And the Penny Picks.
The Cowboys. All right.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
We agree on that. And Chiefs Broncos Monday night on ABC.
Chiefs minus two and a half. I'm going to take
Kansas City at home. The Penny Picks.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
Kansas City at home.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
Oh, come on. There was one. Oh, no. There's no way.
You got to be joking as weed men would say,
come on.
