Lead story.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Lead story from the Zoo, the Bronx Zoo. That's where
we're gonna lead off here, the bronxs Oo. The Pinstripers
made another move, now, Jen the Yankee fans, Hey, the
Yankees are gonna make some big moves here. Okay, fine,
So the Pinstrippers made another couple of moves just before
the deadline. If you didn't see this, perhaps not the

(02:59):
the one that got the attention. The Yankees made a
deal with the San Francisco baseball team, acquiring Elliott Ramos
from the Higantes for a couple of minor leaguers. One
of those minor leaguers the son of the Hall of
Famer Jeff Kent. I wonder if his kid is as
big an a hole as he is.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I don't know. We'll see if the apple falls far from.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
The tree or if it does not. So that was
the transaction. Then we'll just break it down for you
right there. Mixed reviews could jumping off point. Let us
discuss the question with Mallard of the third degree coming
up shortly, the question on this one. Yankees make a deal,
they grab outfielder Elliott Ramos from the Giants. How do

(03:40):
you assess that particular trade? How do you assess that
particular trade?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
All right?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
So I've got Paw, Patrol, Chobani, and Luxor, and we
will combine all of these things together and we are
gonna make some.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Mediterranean chicken and rice is what we're going to make.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Somewhat healthy, somewhat healthy, all right, So, first of all,
look trading for Elliott Ramos, which is what the Yankees
did is not a master stroke. It's not I know
there are some Yankee apologists out there and Rah Rah
types and they drink the kool aid and they can't
get enough of it.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yankee baseball. It is the baseball equivalent.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Of borrowing your neighbors Makita lawnmower because yours exploded.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
And that's it now.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
For the Yankees, their lawnmower was Aaron Judge and then
Cody Bellinger and Jean Carlos Stanton, all of them down
for the count. Good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
Judge has a rib issue. Bellinger has a bad hammy
that went whammy. So those guys around John Carlos Stanton
has always gone a wall. That's his super power is

(04:57):
going a wall. So this this is what's known as
a temporary fix. It's kind of like getting one of
those paw patrol band aids and it just solves the
issue temporarily. This one, of course has launch angle, which
makes the kids very excited. It's got the launch angle.
So Ramos he swings like he's trying to literally fight

(05:18):
the air. He wants to fight the air. And when
he does hit the ball, which happens occasionally, he hits
it extremely hard, and you assume that he'll benefit from
playing in Williamsport, and a lot of people don't know
this Yankee stadium. The dimensions are the same as Williamsport,
Pennsylvania where they have that Little League World Series and so.
But here's the problem. There's always a catch. He strikes

(05:41):
out a lot. That is his special thing that he
does a lot of strikeouts there Ramos and rarely walks
and plays below average defense. Other than that, it's all good.
So eventually this is a platoon player. When the Yankees
at some point get their guys back in twenty two,
twenty twenty nine, Ramos.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Will be a platoon player.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
It's kind of like putting an orange traffic cone in
the middle of a pothole. It warns people to stay
away from the pothole. It does not solve the problem.
So if this goes wrong, then Ramos is an expensive
roster filler. If it goes right, he's a slightly better
than average roster filler. That's what Elliott Ramos is now. Meanwhile,

(06:27):
the music has stopped. Everyone put their pens down and
grab a chair. The trade deadline is over. So the
Yankees ended up dealing a relief pitcher to the Pirates
you've never heard of. They picked up Luis Garcia Junior,
hit a dinger in his Yankee debut on Monday late
in the game, although the Yankees stumbled at the end

(06:47):
there against the Redbirds and as we mentioned, Elliott Ramos,
the outfielder from the Giants at the trade deadline. So
the question what is your evaluation, what is your evaluation
of Brian Cashman and in air quotes shopping spree for
the Yankees. So here's my position on it. I don't

(07:08):
think it's that controversial. This is the modern Yankees. There
are old timers who long for the days when the
Yankees had the biggest muscle in baseball and used it.
That's not these Yankees. This is old family money. This
is old family money. Once George Steinbrenner's pride and enjoy

(07:29):
the New York Yankees who are always big game hunting.
Why because it's New York and you're the Yankees, and
you go out and get the biggest badass at the
trade deadline.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Because that's what the Yankees do.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
The kids they refuse to do that because that costs money,
and every dollar that they spend to upgrade the roster
is a dollar less they can spend on the crew
that runs their yacht in the south of France. The chatateaux,
oh that they have. Those chateaus don't pay for themselves.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
They don't.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
So the Yankees just refuse these days to do anything
really all that exciting, and so here we are. Here
we are instead of landing a true difference maker, Brian
Cashman handed the fan base some Jabbadi plane Greek yogurt,
and it's safe. There's really no flavor. You don't really

(08:27):
remember it. You just forget about it instantaneously. That's the
Yankees at the trade deadline, and Luis Garcia Junior and
Elliott Ramos, the two pickups the Yankees got, respectively from
the Nationals and the Giants. The baseball equivalent of painting
the wall white. Okay, that's great, it doesn't really get
you all excited. The walls white, fresh coat of white

(08:51):
paint on the wall. That's it Cashman and his again
in air quotes, shopping spree, if you will. It's kind
of like walking into Costco and looking at all the
delicious cakes and they get the birthday cakes over there,
and then it's in the refrigerator area, and then in
the other freezer across the hallway there at Costco, they've
got the Kirkland brand pumpkin pie, apple pie, and pecan pie.

(09:16):
And you're licking your chops and you're looking at those
cakes and the birthday cakes, and you see the pies
over there and they're like really good, and it just delicious,
and you start panicking and you end up leaving with
a twelve pack of paper towels. That's essentially the Yankees
of the trade deadline. They saw all the delicious cake,

(09:36):
the pie, and they said.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
I don't know what to do. Oh my god, I'm
just gonna take some paper towels. That's what I'm going
to do.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
And while the Dodgers are currently shopping on Rodeo Drive
with a relentless commitment to do whatever it takes to
try to win, and the Yankees, on the other hand,
and by the way, Dodgers said the school was going
to make his Dodger debut at Wrigley later on on Tuesday.
We'll see how that goes. But here's the thing. The Yankees,
while the Dodgers are shopping on Rodeo Drive. The Yankees

(10:07):
are rummaging through the bargain bin at TJ Max right
now and hoping to find something really good, something really
really good. There trying to do it and.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
So good luck.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
So they Yankees have seemingly a weakness behind the plate.
Catcher need help. A catcher. Didn't get a catcher. There's
reinforcements needed in the Yankee bullpen. They didn't do anything
of note to improve the Yankee bullpen. So the Yankees
used to be what the Dodgers are now. They used
to be the Boogeyman. They used to be the thing

(10:40):
that went bumpity bumping the night. That was the Yankees.
When I was growing up, that was the Yankees. I
remember years ago when I early in my career, I
had a gig. I was doing the Dodger postgame show
and the Dodgers had mediocre team. Believe it or not,
they had mediocre teams every year. And I remember I
won this rant. I said, I was doing it. The
Yankees were winning the World Series. I said, why can't
the Dodgers be like the Yankees? Why can't they be?

(11:01):
And here we are. The Dodgers have replaced the Yankees.
They've replaced them as the it team. And now the
Yankees are just the guy that's at the gym and
he only uses the elliptical.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
That's it. That's all the guy does. That's it.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
And Brian Cashman didn't really upgrade the roster. He just
kind of accessorized what they had. And the Yankee fans
have been beaten down so much they accepted. They just
drink the kool aid. They're like, okay, all right, final thought.
And then we've got Mallethy thirty.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
We go to.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Milwaukee, where the beer is fresh and the baseball has
been great this summer. The Brewers, who are the top
team in Major League Baseball right now at this moment.
Second straight season, they have the top earned run average
in the National League, the Brewers, and they have added
some players at the deadline, little depth for the Milwaukee

(11:53):
baseball team. They did not get Trek Schooble, obviously from
the Dodgers, so instead they acquired a gaggle, a gaggle
of pitchers in Dustin May Joe, Joe Romero and Antonio
sends a tella.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Who that guy was with the Rockies? Don't here with
the Rockies.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
You're kind of not really that big a deal. These
aren't the Blake Street Bombers Rockies. You know what I'm
saying if you're old enough to remember that. So that's
who they got. Milwaukee sent two of its top prospects
to the Saint Louis Cardinals. That is an individual trade
to get Joe Joe Romero and former Dodger in Red

(12:37):
Sox Dustin May. And that's what they gave up. So
the question here it is how should the Brewers fan base,
the brew crew fans feel about the move, which is
really just the name here is a guess name. I
say that with a wink and a nod Dustin May.
So there's only one way to fairly evaluate this, and

(13:00):
it is a sawing bat, a swing baut.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
A with withff, with whiff. That is what this is,
all right. Milwaukee didn't just whiff at the deadline. It
goes higher than that.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
They swung so hard that they corkscrewed themselves and their
helmet came flying off. Like, you've got the top team
in baseball yet again, here we sit in August.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
You've got the top team in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
You have a gift from the baseball gods, the mizz
He's got the nickname he ripped off from a professional wrestler,
and he's right there, a number one king of the
hill atop the rotation for the Milwaukee baseball team, a
true generational ace. Now he's not used the way he

(13:48):
should be used because baseball's gone soft and a true
dominant supernova would be good enough to pitch seven or
eight innings every single start in the playoffs. We know
you and I know that will happen with the Miz.
The Brewers, out of an abundance of caution, will not
play that way. However, when he's out there, whether it's
five innings or maybe six, and they'll write stories about

(14:11):
his toughness. If he goes six innings, that's the guy.
So you build around that. You build out the roster
around Jacob Mazeroski. That's what you do. And your big
move here is to go out and acquire a guy
doing cosplay as a carrot top.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Impersonator in mister May. That's the move.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Dustin May, who's got really good spin rate and throws
with velocity, at least he did with the Dodgers. So
Dustin May, a eer of over six. All right, Dustin
May six point two six over his final seven starts
with the Saint Louis baseball team.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
A number, if you look at it.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Casually, kind of looks like a student loan interest rate.
And Milwaukee said, perfect, we love fixer uppers. We'll put
them into the laboratory and get all the bleakers and
gadgets and all.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
That stuff and we'll be good to go.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
So at this point, if Dustin May is your big
pickup to push you to the World Series, Milwaukee would
have been better off contacting the Luxor Hotel and Casino
in Vegas and dealing for the actual Carrot Top because
at least the actual Carrot Top would have sold some tickets.
It would have been good there. The deadline wasn't a

(15:32):
splitsh splash.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
It was not that.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
It was more like dropping a tic tack into Lake
Michigan and not that impressive. Not that impressive. And also
after weeks of the Brewers are in on Tarrek's schoobl
the Brewers are in on this guy and that guy
and the other guy and the guy in the back
and the whole thing. So you should feel, if you're
a Brewers fan kind of like, remember that story the Gambler,

(15:56):
the woman that went to the casino and she was
playing the slots and she thought she had won forty
three million dollars.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
You remember the story. So she's, oh, man, I won
forty three millions. She took a picture of it.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
She's like, this is great day of my life playing
the penny slots. I won forty three million dollars. Holy crap,
only to be told that the machine malfunctioned the people
that run the casino, so they handed her a ticket
for two dollars and twenty five cents and a complimentary
steak dinner.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
That's kind of what the Bruce got. They thought they
had a shot.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
At Schooble and they ended up with a ticket for
two dollars and twenty five cents and a free steak
dinner complimentary on the house. It's Ben Malis Show on
Fox Time Now for hit the man. Try get up,
Here we go, Here we go, Here we go.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
How about that?

Speaker 5 (16:36):
To the third degree? Man, this is one Big Ben
gets grilled.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Cool ah loop.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
DeAndre Hopkins has taken a coaching job at Georgia Tech,
but that doesn't mean he's retired. In a social media
post over the weekend, Hopkins said, I haven't retired from
the NFL, but if you're a wide receiver and you
want to be great, come to Georgia Tech Football. Ben,
do you think we see Hopkins again in the NFL?

Speaker 1 (17:01):
The NFL has sent him a text message and the
message is you're on the no fly list.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
So I'm gonna go.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
No, he's been slowing down the last couple of years.
The fact that he took the job at Georgia Tech
tells you what you need to know.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Now.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Is it possible if seventeen wide receivers get hurt and
there's no decent receiver on the market, that somebody will
call him in week fifteen and say DeAndre, we need you. Yeah,
it's possible, but by that point the college football season
will be in full effect.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Are you gonna walk away from Georgia Tech.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
It's one thing, like was it Dante Who is it
Dante Colper No, not Dante Copper the guy Teddy Bridgewater,
Teddy Bridgewater who left a high school job to go
to the NFL with the Lions. Like, that's one thing,
but dig it Georgia Tech. That's a tough one. So
I say the odds less than less than five percent.
We see DeAndre Hawkins again.

Speaker 6 (17:51):
Next, Lions wide receiver Jamison Williams said that Jamiir Gibbs
deserves to be the highest paid running back in the
NFL because he's the best.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
In the league. It's his teammate. Obviously he's gonna say that,
But Ben, do you agree with him?

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Everyone should be paid. You should be paid more, Loraina,
I should be paid more. Everyone should be paid. Listen
when a player advocates for a teammate, and you know,
he said the word best coop, which means as good
as all the rest, and so he said was the best.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
I means as good as all the rest in that category.
Let's put it this way.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Gibbs is going to get a whole lot of gold
boo yon.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
So he's going to get his money.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Whether he's the highest paid or the third highest paid,
that will be determined at another time. I'm not worried
about him. He's not going to have to take a
payday loan out to pay his bills.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Next, Cowboys execs Stephen Jones said over the weekend that
they wouldn't rule out selling a piece of the team.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Ben, do you think Jerry would ever do that. Uh No,
And he'll talk about it.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
You know. It's a free source. And when I've heard
Mark Cuban's.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Name has been mentioned, I don't buy it.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
I'll tell you what happens though, when Jerry crosses the
pearly gates and goes to the other. At that point,
I think Stephen Jones will sell not the whole thing,
but he'll sell like forty nine percent of the Dallas Cowboys.
I predict dal will have and just get free money
and all that. So I don't believe all Jerry Jones
is alive. He's that's his baby, that's his pride and enjoy.
He doesn't want to give anyone access to the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Right there is malad the third degree? How did we die?
You passed this edition? Chicken Time?

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Now four the always popular malor Riddle of the day,

went viral for ordering a little Caesar's pizza. Pizza, pizza.

(22:13):
What else do we have? Robbie the Mariner fan says
he went viral for proclaiming that John Robinson is better
than Jamir Gibbs. Calm down, Robbie, all right, you're sullying
the airways with Atlanta falcon chatter. That's a bad job
by you. That is a bad job by you.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
What else?

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Eke in Roseville, Minnesota says Houston's humidity is the answer?
Page down, lighting up a cigarette from JT the Wingman?

Speaker 2 (22:42):
What else do we have here?

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Manuel and Guardina says the astro guy Trammell went viral
for flying out and then did a cartwheel on his
way to the dugout and twirled his bat like a baton.
That's very specific. I like that a bow. He ordered
a bo Jangles Chicken sandwich. I think was the answer there?

(23:04):
From our friend Steve the misplaced San Diegan Johnny Q
says mute, We're going mute. Eight pieces of gum at
once from Piller up Phil, that's his answer.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
What else do we have?

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Timmy from Busco, Indiana says he went viral for throwing
up today?

Speaker 2 (23:23):
I said that. I think I said that. What else
do we have?

Speaker 1 (23:25):
Jill Ripping the malle monologue on the Yankees shocking there?
Ed from Spokane. I just want to say the lawnmower
I mentioned sucks so well. You're the lawn person. Ed
I'm not a lawn person. Donkey Sausage says going barefoot
is the answer, and Lady Sideburns fan favorite Lady Sideburns
and went viral for snatching all of the hot dogs

(23:47):
from the hot dog gun.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
That would be that would be something. All right, Lrena,
here is the Mallard riddle of the day.

Speaker 9 (23:53):
We want a hot dog gun?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Those are those T shirt guns? Now, I forget.

Speaker 9 (24:00):
Have you shot one?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I have not, But have you seen the video years ago?
There was a T shirt gun that was pointed the
wrong direction? Oh no, remember this, and viral clip of
was involving a mascot they had the They had the
T shirt gun somehow pointed the wrong way and yeah,
right there, I'm.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Gonna try my T shirt gun impression. What is that?
Oh right?

Speaker 10 (24:28):
Yes, I actually don't support blowing into the mic, but
that was pretty good, you know, you know, please.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Oh my god, stop Ken Winny in here. All right?

Speaker 10 (24:41):
The almost as bad as when girls talk like this
on the ring.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Oh, the Valley Girls, you live. We're doing the show
from the valley. That's where this originated, The Valley Girls. Anyway,
the correct answer is this guy again, Astro outfueler Taylor
Trammell went viral for blank after flying out, he went viral.
He ran all over the base of He touched the
entire basis and celebrate I did a home run, not
realizing he had flown out to the Blue Jay outfielder

(25:04):
who goofed. I've got to know he crossed home plate,
did a little shimmy when he crossed home plate, and
then was shocked to find out that he actually hadn't
hit a home run. That's great, bad situational awareness. Let's
go back to the phones. Andrea, she called in earlier.
We hung up on her, and that's a bad job.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Best.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Andrew's got a couple of hot takes here. She's the
astrology insider on the trade deadline. Hello Andrea, Welcome, Hello Ben,
how are you? If I was any better, I'd be
a Giant. But I wouldn't be a Giant because I
would have been traded because no, well most of them
got traded.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
A lot of them got traded.

Speaker 11 (25:38):
Yeah, you know, you made an interesting point. Then I
want to follow up on that because you know, you
know a lot about baseball, and you know the thing
about trading. Robbie Ray not only was that disappointing. But
trading to a division rival like the Podrangs, it just
doesn't make a lot of sense to trade him to

(25:59):
a team like that. Check this out the past two months,
his earned one average was one point zero four.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yeah, good, good numbers. Good numbers.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Though, we'll see what he does in San Diego. How
many more years were I didn't see how many years
or left in a contract, So that's usually.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Part of it.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Either I'm going to leave or he's got more time
and they don't want to pay him. So one of
those two things is likely the reason they traded him.

Speaker 11 (26:23):
Yeah, right, because he was going to be a free
agent after this year.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Oh there you go, that's it. They want to get
something for him rather than nothing for him.

Speaker 11 (26:32):
But again, trading to a division rival, and his last start,
he you know, he pitched really well, he was well.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
I don't I don't mind.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
I don'tly mind trading in the division as long as
you have you have to win the trade though, you
have to win the trade.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
You don't win the trade, then that that's brutal. Absolutely.

Speaker 11 (26:50):
I like what you said, prospects or suspects. I love that.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Yeah, yeah, because most of these they all get hyped
up that Major League Baseball Pipeline one hundred or whatever
it's called.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
It's a hustle. It's a hustle, Andrew it is.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
So Yeah.

Speaker 11 (27:07):
So it was just kind of a busy day for that.
And you know, just to trading him to a division rival,
just trading him in general was kind of disappointing. I mean,
not that he knew it wasn't going to happen, but
it's still disappointing when it does happen.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, for sure, I think it tried to trade Devers
and Chapman. They couldn't get those guys traded that. They
traded as many guys as they could possibly trade. All right,
virgo in service, Andrea, thank you so much. I appreciate
that our astrology inside a busy time for her. Let's
say hello to what Bee Pie Blair, who's in the
state of Maine and he's paused his addiction to TikTok
