Leave this hour we are That's what we're doing. I
do want to point out before we get to lead
this hour later, this particular block of time, this we
call it our three special feature The Queen of Hearts
with Lorena Oh We Love Love speak for yourself. So
this hour Lorena is going to solve all your relationship problems.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
You're married, you're thinking about getting married.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
You're in a relationship, you need a slumpbuster, whatever it
might be. Whatever you're looking for there. She'll help you out,
and that'll be coming up later this hour. You want
to start sending questions in hashtag Queen of Hearts. Market
research tells us many of you are too stupid to
know how to spell that, so do a spell check.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Queen of Hearts is the hashtag.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
You can use that that way we can find the
question I know. Otherwise you can call in if you want.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
That'll be coming up later this hour.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Now our lead from Buffalo, where the Buffalo Roam. The
NFL Bill's running back James Cook at a big season
last year. He says that the football team there in
Western New York has a new energy. There's a new
energy in the building under first year head coach Joe Brady,

(04:51):
who was promoted after serving as quarterbacks coach and offensive
coordinator and now Cook credited Brady's leadership style well in
a interview on state run NFL Media, which I guess
is now.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Owned by ESPN, but it's still state.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Run, saying players are more comfortable and able to communicate openly,
adding that the new head coach Joe Brady understands the
locker room culture because he's already built relationships.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
With a roster. So that is a good jumping off point.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Let us discuss the question, all right, how do you
process James Cook running back, praising the quote new energy
in the building close quote under new Bill's head coach,
Joe Brady. All right, So on this one, I've got
the Starbucks app order, John Deere, lawnmower, rest in peace,

(05:45):
beer drinking Brian, and if that was not enough, the
Great Gatsby. So we'll combine all of these things together,
every single thing here, and we're gonna make some cinnamon cookies,
some cinnamon roll cookies, which I make.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Those everyone, so wow, they're really good.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
It's the middle part of the cinemroll and it's wrapped
around the cookie.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
It's solid, solid cookie. All right. So my first thought.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
On this, James Cook did not just throw shade at
the old coach Sean McDermott. He threw an entire solar eclipse.
According to our astrology insider Andrea, when Cook raves about
Joe Brady and the quote new energy and authenticity, it's
NFL speak for the last guy suck the oxygen out

(06:31):
of the room. It's the grid iron equivalent of your
coworker whispering. That's the vibe. That's the vibe. It's so
much better now that they old guy's gone. Everyone connects
Hale under Joe Brady, right under Joe Brady.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
According to Cook, the way I interpreted his quote.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Parsing the words the Bills are not in boot camp anymore,
and Cook basically painted McDermott as a drill sergeant who
turns off the music at the party because it's after ten.
It's after ten, while Brady is the Starbucks app order
of human espresso. Right, he's got that real shot of caffeine,

(07:17):
and the Bills desperately need it now, Cot clearly, and
so the only way to interpret this is he's obviously
going over the top praising the new guy, and by
doing that, he's putting McDermott in a spot where he's
like a lukewarm cup of decaf coffee. Now, as for
the closing of the Super Bowl window for the Buffalo Bills,

(07:40):
it's not closed. It's teetering on the break now. Cook
his insistence that it's on us is just the Bills
finally admitting they've been spending the postseason in recent years
tripping over their own shoelaces, finding new and creative ways
to suck at a time you cannot suck all right.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Secondly, now we.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Go to college football, and Brian Kelly a good Southern
man unless he's not. Brian Kelly not coaching in big
time college football this year. He's outside of the arena
and he's been making a round of interviews recently. Kelly

(08:22):
said that he has been quote mischaracterized since leaving South
Bend saying bye bye to the fighting Irish, arguing that
he never ever claimed that the school Notre Dame was
incapable of winning a national championship. Now, Kelly attempted to
clarify his original message. He said, quote I did not

(08:45):
leave Notre Dame because they couldn't win a national championship.
Those words never came out of my mouth. Close quote Now.
Kelly went on to claim that his actual point was,
if I'm going to leave, I'm going to go to
a play.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
That can win a national championship. Question.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Was Brian Kelly successful in cleaning up his bumpy departure
from Notre Dame? So I'd like two letters? Can I
have an N and an O?

Speaker 1 (09:21):
No? No no no no no no no no no no.
This is classic gaslighting. Is what this is.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
It is Brian Kelly left Notre Dame because he thought
LSU offered him a better chance to win a national championship.
He said, in his own words, he wanted to be
in an environment where he said, I have the resources
to win a national championship, and that he went on
to say, LSU offered this is the time he left,

(09:49):
offered many more avenues than Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
That's not out of context. It wasn't.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
It wasn't like, hey, listen, U, you're twisting my words around.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Those were direct shots at South Bend.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
You're attacking the Catholics, And instead of winning, Kelly did
a spectacular belly whopper at LSU.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
He hit the swamp water in the bayou so hard?

Speaker 3 (10:16):
How hard?

Speaker 2 (10:17):
So hard he hit the swamp water there in the
bayou that the splash zone reached all the way up
to South Bend, Indiana, and it flew over the head
of can't close the deal, Neil.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
So after being fired midway through last season, as we mentioned,
Brian Kelly is on the outside looking in, looking through
the window, and now he's got some no show job
at CBS as a college football analyst.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
I'm sure, that'll be riveting.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
It would be fun though, if every week he has
a different accent. He can do a Long Island yenta
one week, the next week he can do a New
England accent. Then he can do a Texas accent. You
know it's parts of Texas that have that. I then
go back to his roots.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Why not? So? Kelly says he wants to support.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Now the program at Notre Dame, which I believe is
the least believable line since his fake Southern accent popped up.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
And this lands like a guy. All of this lands
like a guy.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Returning the John Deere lawnmower he stole three years ago
and asking if.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
You want to have a bite to eat, I'll get
your sandwich.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Well, no, you stole my John Deere lawnmower three years ago,
and now you're returning it. Well, I know I'm but
I'm returning and I needed it and I forgot about it.
But why would I want to have lunch? Well, buy
a sandwich?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
No, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Everyone remembers the exit and he's trying to clean it up.
Brian Kelly now because he wants to get another gig
somewhere and he wants to be popular and all that,
and so it's kind of like mopping the floor after
the circus elephants already rampage through. Okay, well they've already
pooped all over the place, So I mean you mop up.

(12:03):
That's fine, but it's like, come on all right now.
Final thought to pro bouncy ball bounce Hi, bounce it,
Bounce it bouncy. Former NBA star Tim Hardaway Senior, who
has blessed his child to wear his jersey number with
the Miami Heat. So Tim Hardaway Senor is making the rounds.
He said he believes that active NBA players should not

(12:28):
host podcast or live streams.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
During the season.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Now.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Hardaway argued it creates unnecessary distractions and is problematic. Speaking
on some podcasts for friends and family, Hardaway said, I
quote quote, he said, I never agree with a guy
having his own podcast on a team while they're playing.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Now.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Hardaway specifically referenced players such as Draymond Green, Paul George,
and Jalen Brown, saying he does not support their in
season media ventures. All right, so the question you got
this former star with the Golden State Warriors, the Heat
and some other teams, Tim Hardaway Sr. Who says active

(13:08):
NBA players such as Draymond Green and Jalen Brown, among others,
should not be doing live streams and podcasts during the season.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Are you with him on this or not? So I'm
giving this one some side eye.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
We have a daily talk show to do every night,
whether there's sports going on or not, whether there's good
stuff to talk about or mediocre stuff or bad stuff
to talk about, stuff that gives us goosebumps and stuff
that makes us puke in our mouth, we have to
do a show. So from a sports radio gas bag
and blowhard standpoint, the player led era that we're all

(13:45):
living in is a gift from the programming gods. It's
the Great Gatsby of content. It really is the Great
Gatsby of content. These guys are not just giving us quotes,
They're giving us entire segments of talk radio. I got
four hours to fill up every night, four hours of programming,
and I often don't even have to lift a finger.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
It's pure supersized silliness.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Today, the modern NBA is basically a podcast network where
they occasionally play basketball.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
It's red meat in the lions Den is what it is.
And the late David Stern.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Would have shut this down, or at least attempted to
shut this kind of stuff down instantly to protect the
league's image policing. Back in his day, police language, he
policed wardrobe. He was from the old country. He's dead,
David Stern. I met him a few times over the years,
back in the day, and he would also have stopped
load management. He tried to stop load management. He knew

(14:51):
one of the great all time predictions. When that San
Antonio Spurs were playing in Florida. It was back when
T and T had the games, and that little weasel
Greg Popovich sent pretty much his entire starting lineup on
Southwest airlines from Orlando back to San Antonio, and they
missed a game, if I remember correctly, in Miami, and

(15:14):
this became a big deal. The people at T and
T were upset. This was like the beginning. It was
patient zero of this invasive species of load management. And
David Stern knew right away this is going to kill
our business. We sell tickets. We have people that plan
their day around watching our players on TV. And these
guys are healthy, they're just lazy. This is not good

(15:37):
for our business. We must put a stop this, and
he find the San Antonio Spurs. He find Greg Popovich,
a ton of money, and all these woke sports riders
and all these blowhards in the media said, oh, it's
only give him a break.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
They win all the time, the Spurs. It's not that
big a deal. It's a one off. Okay, So it
was a one off.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Now like gremlins, don't feed him after midnight, don't now,
don't get them the water.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
And here we are. Here, we are a great prediction
by differenser.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
But guys like Searn he would advise the players avoid distractions.
And you've got Adam Silver who's like, avoid distractions. Let
me hand these guys a mic. Just make sure you
hit the subscribe button, and we need you to get
the subscribe button. Like the players say, they're controlling the narrative,
the funny thing to me is the narrative is controlling them.

(16:29):
These guys feel like they have to respond to everything.
They feel like every man, woman and child is dying
to know their take on every geo political issue. I
promise you they're not. You're not that important. I'm not
that important. You're certainly not that important. So come on,
and it's my it's really confirming my belief over the years.

(16:50):
I've always says everyone wants to do everyone wants to
do audio content, whether you call it radio or a podcast,
it's a man on a microphone and everyone wants to
do it. That's why I fell in love when I
was a little boy, I fell in love with radio,
right And now every athlete, every jock, wants to be
talking into a microphone and giving you their opinion on everything. So,

(17:15):
while Tim Hardaway is probably right, if I was running
an NBA team, would I want these guys doing the
podcast and stuff because.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
It was always and I used to get so pissed off.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
You can ask anybody I worked with when I was
a radio stringer back in the day, and when I
would get the comment something to the effect that I'm
paraphrasing this, I just don't want to don't want any distractions.
I don't want any distractions. Just want to, you know,
do my thing, and that's it. And now it's all

(17:46):
just one giant distraction. It's just one massive distraction, is
all it is. This is the Ben Mahlor Show. Now,
if you would like to be part, you can join
us right now. Eight seven seven nine on Fox. That's

Speaker 2 (18:12):

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Thank you, thank you, thank you. All right back to it,
we'll play off the malor riddle of the day.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I did want to address this, I got any I
just checked the email, which is you should never do,
and I usually don't during the show. I try to
be careful checking the email.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
So I was very angry email.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
You should have started hour or two with him Bope
being knocked out and the French team losing in the
semi finals to Spain. And I did consider it, and
then I was h I'm good, I'm okay. Did I
like the fact I could have done a whole rant
about him Boppe ripping the approach of the team from France,

(21:30):
they're his team, saying the team was sloppy and all that,
and criticizing the way they played, which is seemingly a way.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
To criticize the coaching staff. And I could have done that.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
There was other stuff that I thought was more interested,
so more interesting, and I have editorial control.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
And so that's that. So there you go. Here's the
Mallor riddle of the day. A Mallor riddle of the day.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Here it is a blank from when Michael Jordan was
twelve years old, just a little kid, sold for thirty
five thousand dollars at a recent Heritage Sports auction. That
is the Mallard Riddle of the day.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Wink wink, nod, nod. What is the answer?

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Let's see, does anyone know? We go to the great Unwashed?
This the night before the Malord Paloosa. Oh my god, tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
It is all so exciting, Lorena. It is just the
greatest night.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
We cannot wait, all the acts, all those nervous people.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
What is gonna happen that? Will they win? Will they?

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Will they get gonged off the show? We hate to
gong people off the show, but sometimes we have to.
They're so bad, all right, Fremy says the answer to
the riddle, is a pair of socks. Ferg Dog says

Speaker 1 (23:48):
How did you miss the riddle? Tim?

Speaker 2 (23:49):

Speaker 1 (24:18):

I agree.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
If you're a true fan of baseball, which I am.
A lifelong Dodger fan. Alls we want to see is
a good product on the field. That's what we want
to watch, and the owners don't put it up there.
Last week on Wednesday, the Dodgers played the Rockies, worst
team in baseball, are tied for on a Wednesday evening,

(26:26):
they grew forty some thousand people.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
When the Dogs, they pack it in. The Dodgers, obviously
they lead baseball in attendance.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
And they find but they also give away Mexico, Mexican
not actually in Mexico.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
You're in La or you're in Mexico, are you man.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
I'm close to Mexico. I can spit in the river
that crosses us.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Oh really, okay, don't do that. Don't pollute the river yet. Yeah.
So the Dodgers give aways like tons of bibbleheads and
all that, and uh, you know they do well.

Speaker 6 (26:54):
It's it. Well, yeah, the Dodgers are fortune and I'm
lucky to be a fan. But when the Mets, the Yankees,
even Saint Louis and the Atlanta they go to these
other stadiums, there are attendance doubles. Not because they want
to see their home team, is they just want to see.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
A good team. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Oh, there's also a lot of Dodger fans that are everywhere.
They've jumped on the bandwagons, so when they get it's insane.
When I I don't know if you know, years ago,
I did stuff with the Dodgers and I traveled with
the team briefly, and you'd see a few Dodger fans
at different places.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
I see these.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Dodger games when they're on the road. It's like Dodgers
Stadium East when they go. It's crazy how many Dodger
fans there are everywhere.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
It's wild.

Speaker 6 (27:37):
But back in the older days, the Oakland Athletics, even
the Pittsburgh Pirate, Cincinnati Reds, those are all smart, small
market teams. When they're winning, they fill up the stadium.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Well, yeah, for sure, obviously that's the key you win.
People want to be part of a winner and all that.
There's no question that.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
That's what's going on.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
So all right, we agree that Mike Mexico, we agree
the salary cap is is not gonna work because the owner,
but not a cap.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
The cap should be against the owners that they got
to spend more money.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Yeah, they won't do that either.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
They should if the teams are making money. And the
reason you know they're making money is because they won't
open the books because it'll embarrass them because.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
The players will be like, well wait, why would we
put a cap and a floor?

Speaker 2 (28:32):
And you guys are all making money, so a lot
of money, and so not that you shouldn't make money.
If you own a team, you should make money. Just
don't cry poverty. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
All Right, thank you, Mexico. Mike, all right, you're the man.
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Call me again, Mexico. Let's go to Eric and maryl
Do I have a contestant?

was such a wild story. He was in the prime
of his career and it was like, no way that.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Would happen to mister Taylor.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Oh yeah, I remember because you were like you sure,
and I'm like, yeah, just hurt it. Yes, I was
up and I'm here. I'm still here in DC.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
And how did you find the show again? You left
the show for twenty years? How do you find the show?

Speaker 4 (30:02):
What's funny is I'm up and I happen to have
my I was looking listening to the soccer game today
on the Fox Exam and it was still on the
station and I heard your voice. I'm like, I know
that's not Ben mallis still on the radio.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
I know it's rather shocking. I agree.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
I'm amazed by See when did I'm trying to think
that has it been twenty.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Years and seven? Wow? That is wild? How is that?

Speaker 4 (30:33):
I would love if you could bring back that you
still had an audio from the show that, Yeah, that
would have been. If you can find that, that would be.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I'm sure it's around here somewhere. Finding it is another issue,
that is that's always.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
The part digital like our like online streaming archives do
not go back that far.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yeah, I think that's pre dates podcasting. Yeah, I don't
think we even had that on the It might be
on a disc somewhere in the studio.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
Yah, blow that off. I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Well listen, listen to me, all right. A couple of things.
It's great that you're out there still. I'm glad you
found the show.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
And are you up at late at night or you
usually go to bed early? What's your deal?

Speaker 4 (31:13):
No, it's so happened. I just I was usually I'm
you know, I'm in by this time and sleep by
this time. But I just happen to be up because
I'm trying to do a little bit of walking now,
so I try to go early in the morning because
it's supposed to get up to like one hundred and
two today, so I try to get out early. And
I'm just a little listening and heard you on and
I was like, man, he's still that's good. That you're

(31:35):
still in the radio still, well, thank you.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
Hilarious.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
I appreciate that.

that night and it was one of those stories. Was like, no,
that can't be there reports that the initial reports were
that me and it was an incident.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
But was he killed?

Speaker 2 (32:19):

Lived in the western suburbs of Fort Lauderdale, and I
went to this old Catholic high school way down to
Port Larder. It was like a forty minute drive home.
So when I finally got my driver's license, I used
to drive like three or four people home every day.
The last person I would drop off every day is
this squirrel Amanda. One day professed her feelings for me,
right when I was into some other girl that had

(40:05):
a boyfriend. Oh no in my league.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
