Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ding Dong.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's a small world, after all, it's a small small world,
and it's our number three talking baseball on the Ben
Malor Show. Reminder, the fifth Hour podcast we'll be up
later today. We want to support this podcast. Make sure
you subscribe to that and get into the weeds. And
what happened to our buddy Ferg Dog So we're on

(00:24):
the same wavelength on that. Meanwhile, here in our number three,
what would owner or why why would our owner Arti
Marino keep Mike Trout hog tied in Anaheim?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
The trade deadline's going to be here before you know it.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Also, what message are the Red Sox sending by booting
starter Brian Bao to the miners? He got a big contract,
Brian Bayo, and he's going to the minor leagues. Also
in the NFL, how did Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell sound
when he claimed that quarterback JJ McCarthy is handling the

(01:01):
Kyler Murray edition really well despite mounds of evidence that
is not the case. We'll talk about all that and
more right now here. It is our number three. Are
you getting kicked out of heaven? You can't get kicked out.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Of heaven when You're an angel. You're an angel, right,
no welcome.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
In the beginning of another hour of the Ben Malors Show,
we are in the air a rewaere. Yeah, we are
key collaborators, You and I. We are crispy outside, warm,
inside coast, coast, border to border and beyond on the

(01:50):
mast and boudaciously, bodaciously powerful microphones of FSR ammating from
the pictures. You know, radio is just like television, only
the pictures are better because you got your imagination guaranteed

(02:11):
human from the world famous Fox Sports Radio studios, where
Charlie d in Minnesota reminds us. This hour made possible
in part by our friends at tire Rack. For over
forty years, tire Rack has been helping customers like Stretch
from Orlando, the guy that works at the pizza shop
there in Orlando, find the right tires for how, what

(02:33):
and where they drive, ship fast and free back by
free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile
tire installation tirerac dot com, the way that tire buying
should be. Now I say that night, I believe it was.
If I'm not mistaken, I think it was Robin. Now,

(02:55):
Robin's only called a few times. She lives in southern California,
in Ventura. She's a little north of LA It's on
the way to Santa Barbara, and she calls every once
in a while. She does not like I remember her
last call. She told us that she does not like
Mike the Leprechaun. And that was the that was the
big revelation. So she wants you to know that. This hour,

(03:17):
she said, Bet, can you let the people know the
nice listeners? Can you let them know about the fine
folks that Express Employment Professionals says, you know what, I
think we will do that. Because you want us to
do it, we will do it, and so we will.
And hey, listen, if you're skilled in manufacturing, skip the
online job search nightmare. Express Employment Professionals can I skilled machinist, welders,

(03:39):
and technicians with contract and full time manufacturing jobs.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
So check that out. Our lead this hour talking Bay's ball.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, baseball for you, No, you're not excited about that.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
That's a good story.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
We'll start out in Anaheim, where the baseball is bad.
The content continues to be pretty good. And as I've
always said, the better story is in me losing locker room.
And so We'll begin with the team that is one
of the worst in baseball. As we continue to slowly
move ahead in the baseball season, there have been more whispers,

(04:18):
in hush tones about the future of Mike Trout at
the Big A and will he continue to be the
headliner in Anaheim.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
So if you didn't see this, perhaps not.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Now we are told that at this moment, there is
no indication that the Angels beloved owner. Is there any
owner in sports more love than Arti Marino man, those
Angel fans, those moms love them. Keeps the ticket prices down,
the food prices.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Down, and they don't care about whether the team wins
or not.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
If they started winning, they'd have to raise the prices,
and those moms, those housewives of Orange County would have
a conniption fit.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
So Arty really is loved.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
So Artiy Marina Appeley is not changed his long standing
unwillingness to move Mike Trout. The trade deadline this year,
I believe it was on August thirty. He's always July
thirty first. This year it's on July or August third,
August third. So the Halos are currently buried in quicksand
as normally as the case. One of the worst teams

(05:19):
in baseball, and despite sucking for many, many years over
a decade, which means they've had high draft picks for
over a decade. Somehow the Angels have managed to do
the impossible. They don't seem to have any blue chip
minor league players. It's like even dumb luck if you're bad.
The Pirates also horrific for years, and a couple of

(05:41):
the picks turned out to be good players. You'd think
the Angels would have gotten some of those picks, right,
but no. So anyway, back to the point, So Mike Trout.
By most accounts, he's not hitting for average, but he's
had a renaissance Mike Trout compared to what he has
been on on the field in recent years. He's still

(06:02):
surrounded by mostly turd tacos. But Trout has been healthy
and productive this season. He is currently on pace. You know,
I love my on pace. I can't get enough of it.
He's on pace to hit thirty six dingers, which is
not bad.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
That's not bad.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
So that is a good jumping off point. Let us
discuss the question why why would owner Arti Marino keep
Mike Trout hogtied in Anaheim rather than repackage him.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
For example, the New York Yankees.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Just lost Aaron Judge for most likely three months at least,
if not the rest of the season, even though the
Yankees are saying, oh, he'll.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Be back, yeah, yeah, right, two days ago. He's day
to day. He's day to day, all right.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
So to answer the question why Arti Marino would keep
Mike Trout where he is, I've got sawdust, Marie calendars,
and blimpis and we will combine all of these ingredients together,
all of them, and we're gonna have.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
A chamber of commerce kind of day. That's what we're
gonna have. That's exciting, right, No, you're not excited by that, okay.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
So, first of all, the dance of why is because
it's by the book, and it's his book.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
He's the one I'll talk about, Arty Marino. He wrote
the book. And that's why Arti Marino, the owner in Anaheim.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Is treating Mike Trout like a dusty family heirloom. He
refuses to get rid of it no matter how much.
The Angels just rerun the same mistake every season. And
the Angels, as I mentioned, have done the impossible. They
don't rebuild, they don't reload. They just hoarde rubbish is

(07:53):
what they do. It's fascinating, it truly is, and the
Angels continue to do. It's the same stubborn playbook they
used when Shohei Otani was heading towards free agency and
the Angels refused to seriously entertain the many trade offers
that were made for Otani. And at the time the Angels,

(08:16):
at least that team was competitive. So you can make
the argument, okay with Otani, I got it, because they
were not a real contender. They were a full contender,
but they were legitimately within position to make the playoffs
as a wild guard team, and if Otani had used
his magic wand and led them, that would have been okay.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
And so it didn't happen. Now, Mike Trout, the Angels are.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Not a contender at all. They're total pretender. So Trout,
you look at that. He's also got four years and
one hundred and forty eight million dollars left after this season,
so that's a big contract, which means.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
The only certain teams are going to even bother trading
for Mike Trout.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yankees, the Phillies, the Dodgers, would absorb that contract. You
don't think Tampa Bay or Cleveland or Pittsburgh or any
of those teams are gonna do it. I could see
the Giants doing something like that, though. That seems like
a Giants type move. Just go out and get Mike Trout,
put him out in the outfield somewhere, and we'll be okay.

(09:21):
So my theory on this, and I've talked about this
in previous episodes of the show, my theory is it'll
take Mike Trout forcing the issue for this to thrust forward.
Miles Garrett in Cleveland was behind the scenes able to
force his way out of Cleveland. Go to a legit franchise,
a real franchise in the NFL, not a fake franchise

(09:43):
like the Browns, and so you're okay, there we go,
and you'll make it happen and all that. Trout just
doesn't seem interesting. Not that he's a villain. I'm not
saying Trout's a villain. He just seems completely satisfied showing up.
Go into batting practice, get your four or five at bats,
make a couple plays in the outfield, go back to

(10:06):
your villa and have a great time looking out at
the Pacific Ocean.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
And that's it.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
That he's too comfortable. We talk about Chamber of Commerce counterdays.
He's too comfortable in Laguna Beach. He's practically the mayor
of the Sawdust Festival at this point under those eucalyptus
groves and all that. So unless Arti Marino has a
sudden epiphany like a change of heart situation here and

(10:33):
I buy the chatter that Trout's staying put. He's not
going to the Phillies, which is his beloved team he
grew up in Jersey's a Phillies guy.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Or you're not going to the Mets or the Giants
or any of these teams for the foreseeable future.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
And is polishing the trophy case while the windows stays
nailed shut.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
For the Angels.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Talk about Arty Marino now. Meanwhile, to Boston we go.
The Red Sox have been bad. Also, a bunch of
young Prima donna's there in the Red Sox, and they
have decided that the ownership group has said, well, we've
had enough. They already fired Alex Korra. That didn't work out.
The team still blows. The Red Sox have optioned right
handed starting pitcher Brian Bao to the WU Socks. Yeah,

(11:20):
that's my team. My favorite TRIPAA team is the WU Socks.
Loved that team rolled out the red carpet there at
the WU Sox game when we were there for the
big Boston Meet and greet so Bao was sent down
after he got tattooed by the Baltimore baseball team. He
took the loss at eight to two defeat to the
Orioles at Finway, and he allowed eight runs in five innings,

(11:44):
which I don't think is good, most of it early
in the game. Six runs on the first forty pitches
in a disastrous, just horrific first inning of pitching. He's
twenty seven years old. He's made twelve outings this year.
He has a six point three three four ERA A
Brian Bayo, I didn't pitch in the major leagues. I
have pitched for the WUSS before. That's not good, all right?

(12:06):
Question what message? What message are the Red Sox sending
by booting ejecting starter Brian.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Baow to the minor leagues. So this one is simple.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
This is no more mister nice guy, No more mister
nice guy, not gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
And this is not just a demotion.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
It's a public service announcement, and I know that I
do the overnights. We do a lot of PSAs around here,
so it's a public service announcement. The Red Sox have
decided they are no longer babysitting. They're done babysitting. Playtime
is over in the sandbox at Finway, the front office,

(12:52):
it would appear, and they've taken away the little plastic shovels,
so you kids can't play with the plastic shovels.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Daddy's here.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, time to crack the whip, right, the hall pass
has been revoked.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
However, here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
The reason that this is one of those stories you
have to talk about is Brian Bao signed a six year,
fifty five million dollar extension back in twenty twenty four.
They said, well, that's not one hundred million, that's not
two hundred million. It's enough money where you look at
that and you say he gave up on the long game.

(13:28):
Where if you wait and you bet on yourself, he
didn't bet on himself. I always say, these guys that
don't bet on themselves, that's a sign to me that
there's something a little off there. They take the big payout.
They don't bet on themselves anyway, Bo did that. He
took fifty five million, which should be enough.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
To live on. I hope he's okay.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
I think he can pay for the HOA and all that.
In twenty twenty four, the Red Sox assumed he was
going to be a core member of the pitching staff,
and I remember, I'm pretty sure he was tagged as
Baby Pedro. I some of you Red Sox guys baby Pedro,
and that nickname can be retired now he's officially flopped.

(14:07):
He's twenty seven in his athletic prime, and Bao has
an ERA of six point three four and it's even worse.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
But wait, there's more.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
As a starter, his earn run average as a starter
is ten point three ten point three er.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
And then there have been some games where they bring in.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
A opener, which is that like we used to call
that the Grapefruit League or the Cactus League, where you
just have a pitcher in the first inning and another
one to say any in those situations. For some reason,
he has a seven zero point seventy to one er
in relief. So Baio's a long reliever with a fifty
five million dollar contract. That's not what they thought they

(14:47):
were getting. And you look around here, as I guess
they've said with the rest of like, we're not gonna
hug anymore. Hugs have been discontinued, and this is now
you better produce.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
We're into June and Brian Bay.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Just became the example saying hey, you other guys, we're
gonna send you down to We're gonna send you.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Down And not only is this humiliating.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
For the player, it's obviously a million for the player
running the lap of shame. You know, the wus Socks.
It's just outside Boston. It's not that far away. Price
to live, it's a bit of a commute, but you
can live where he's living in Boston and drive out
to the Wusocks and all that, and then there's Chattery's only.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Going to be there for a little bit.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
It's an admission though by the ownership group of John
Henry that they're a bunch of buffoons. They're a bunch
of buffoons. They're getting Uber Eats to deliver some Marie
calendars and they've got a little doggie bag and it's
filled with pie. Now, is it banana cream pie? Is

(15:48):
it apple pie? Is it cherry Pie. No, it says
on the label right there. If you didnt, why didn't
you read the label humble Pie. So in theory, this
move gives Brian Bao a chance to reset in a
lower pressure.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Environment in Worcester.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Now, if he needs any help, I have thrown out
a pitch on that field. So if Brian Bao wants
any assistance, contact me and I'll be more than happy
to give him some pointers. As Mark Mark Kay knows
he was there and some of you other boys absolutely
killed that first pitch at Polar Park.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
So I'm ready and I can be his pitching coach.
Why not? Why not?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
So I would expect the vultures. In reality here, I
would expect the vultures to come out and try to
poach Bao for pennies on the dollar. Rival gms are
already outside Finway. They're looking at the Green Monster with
coupons and they've got a shopping cart.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
All right.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Last thing, we go to the NFL Minnesota we go
where Viking's head coach Kevin O'Connell was asked at OTA's
about how quarterback JJ McCarthy has handled the addition of
Kyler Murray. The answer, of course is not. Well, that's
the answer. He didn't say that, though, didn't say that.

(17:08):
He went on a long rant and he said, I
think he's handled it really well.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
He's been great, O'Connell said of.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
McCarthy and team meetings, spending a little bit more time
with those guys, the dialogue between the group, all that stuff.
Question for the panel here it is, how did Vikings
coach Kevin O'Connell sound when he claimed that the incumbent
quarterback JJ McCarthy is handling the addition of alligator arms

(17:35):
Kyler Murray really well. So O'Connell sounded like a guy
auditioning for regional manager at Blimpy's like that. The man
was serving up a nice hogie. It was a fluffer nutter.
I am servant fluffer nutters over here. I'm serving fluffer nutters.

(17:59):
Come get a flu nutter. Extra marshmallow fluff. Yeah, little
peanut butter, just a light bit of peanut butter, and
then really thick, really thick marshmallow fluff the fluffer nutter.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
And laying it on thick. And now he was wearing sunglasses.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
You know, I like to look at eyes. Where eyes
are there's some tells by the eye if you're lying
or not. So I couldn't see his eyes O'Connell because
he was wearing shades.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
He was too cool for school. So the words help.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
He said, the phrase you know, which is a DG situation.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Dead give what? Dead give what?

Speaker 2 (18:39):
And anytime a coach sprinkles you know like it's fresh
parmeisana cheese, the coach is telling you.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Not the truth.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
He's buying time to invent the truth. It's the classic
indicator of deceptive speech. If you believe that's I've got
a fluffer nutter to sell you, I do regardless. The
biggest tell came when O'Connell was wrapping up his rant

(19:10):
about how wonderful McCarthy is.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
He gave this sermon and he stammered.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
He said, as a former, as a captain of the team, oof,
who goofed?

Speaker 3 (19:23):
I've got to know that was the mistake.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Now McCarthy was the captain of the vikings. He said,
as a former, that is a man Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Who was rebooting in the middle of a lie.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
We already know McCarthy is not handling this well. How
do I know that? He said it his own words
a few weeks back. This is alligator arms job to
lose and every man, woman and child knows it.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Everyone knows it. Do you know it? I know it?
We all know it.

Speaker 2 (20:05):

Wow, okay.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Mike the Leprechaun says, deal with her fear of spiders,
so he said. Eke in Roseville, Minnesota said her stalker
had a stalker.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
What else do we have to see? Can't read that?
Let's see, we'll skip over that. Who else? Do we
have a page down here? Page down? That's enough. Do
you have an answer the rain nut? Do you have
an answer. Yeah, I think he helped her with her
stage fright stage is it stage fright?

Speaker 2 (24:42):
No, it's also not ingrown ingrown toenail guests by Timmy
from Busco, Indiana. Or it's a Weezer summer from ice something,
bug infestation, donkey sausage all that the correct answer. The
correct answer would be none other than her fear of flying.
Her fear of flying abo phobia. Isn't that what it's

(25:07):
called aviophobia?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
I believe that's correct. Not w D forty King of
the Hill, et cetera from nine oh four Ray or
Great whatever.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Yeah, that w D forty really does come in handy
because when your doors, when your hinges on your doors
start sounding weird, it sounds like you have ghosts.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
And so once you get that WD forty, Oh, is
that what causes that? Yes?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yes, most people who hear sounds, it's because you did
not put that in your line.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
But if they actually need an exorcist.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Well, we know a guy, all right, we know somebody
in the show that can help. Let's go to the phones.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Let's say hello to two percent chance, who's in Alabama?

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Two percent chance. He told the story the other day
about as a kid.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
He got taken to a cockfight in Alabama, although he
spent time I'm in New York.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
He's from Alabama. He's back in Alabama, but he lived
in New York. Hello, two chance.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Idiots.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
I appreciate it. This is such a good caller of yours,
the one you keep mentioning. I said, I'm mu to
the show, so I don't know him. You know, I'm
sure you got some geek pockets. Why don't you go
bail this dude out of jail?

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Well, as you know, I like to let justice play out,
and it's possible Ferg Dog is guilty.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
I want to see how this all plays out.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
I will contact my attorney, though, and we will. We
will proceed if we have to. We will proceed if
we have to. Two percent chance. Ferg Dog is a
staple of the show, and I believe no justice, no peace.
And I'm a little concerned at how blind Scott acted there.
I don't know what's going on with that. He sounded
like someone that had things to hide. I don't know

(26:53):
why he would have anything to hide, but worried about that, concerned.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
I like to hear him, and uh, I know how
he got the cell phone in jail. My brother did
some uh prison time in Upstate New York. Uh he
had a little rough stretch in his early twenties.

Speaker 6 (27:11):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (27:12):
I want to elaborate how he how well he didn't
specifically do it, but how other people get cell phones
in but uh, it's not a comfortable ride from the
county jail to the upstate prisons if you can.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
The prison wallet and yeah, yeah, gotta sit on your
side a little bit.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
I think that being said, though, I have a I
have a buddy that prison wallet. You've never have a
prison wallet anyway, Uh, I have a buddy.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Be careful googling it on a work computer, but yeah,
go ahead, I.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Have a buddy that was just in jail. Oh yeah,
and I think it was a prison I don't know,
but anyway that he had like a tablet in there, like.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Not one that he had to sneak in the you
just like.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Really, yeah, think prison would be bad if I had
an internet, right, I don't really move around much anyway,
so I think that would be great.

Speaker 7 (28:06):
You know, you know what the prisons in jails have
now to uh combat this. They have got this chair
that you sit in and it x rayed. You in
anything magnetic.

Speaker 6 (28:19):
It'll pick up.

Speaker 7 (28:20):
So if there's anything get inside them, you know your recomeria,
it will find it.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
So you just you're stuck to the chair. You can't
get up.

Speaker 7 (28:31):
You just sit down and it'll show everything.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Yeah, I don't think that they're still getting guys. We've
had called mother guy in was it Wyoming? And when
Montana that used to call from prison. He was giving
a phone though that guy, yeah it was he loved
Eddie King Eddie. And then as soon as he got
out of jail he called he called this guy with
this guy from I think it was Montana, Wyoming.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
He called up from jail because he had some he
had insomnie.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
He couldn't sleep, so they give him a phone to
play with at night, and he called in the show.
And then as soon as he got out of the
jail he stopped calling. One time he called, that's it
so bitter about that.

Speaker 7 (29:06):
So he had a correctional officer helping him out, so
he had an inside source.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
But when these guys are low level, like you know,
I don't know, I just feel like if there's long
as they're gonna riot or anything like that, Now you
have to limit what they can look at. But whatever,
anything else, two percent chance anything else at all.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
That is, you got just a little hot prison talk.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
I had a Russell Wilson take, but it'll take me
too darn long to get to it.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
All right, but we'll say it, but wait for next week.
Why a golfer?

Speaker 7 (29:40):
What is a golfer and a magician? Uh? What does
a golfer and a magician both love? What are the
what is the one thing they have in common that
they both love?

Speaker 3 (29:54):
This is a great jobs golfer and a magician, well said,
a professional love.

Speaker 7 (30:00):
A hat trick?

Speaker 6 (30:01):
Oh hockey player? I screw you up. I'm tired.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Go to bed, Go to bed, Go to bed, go
to bed. That was I knew that was not going
to be funny. I knew that was going to suck.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Let's go, Let's go to Andrew in Bakersfield, California.

Speaker 6 (30:17):
Hello Andrew, Hello Ben, Hey, thanks for reading me the oath.
Last night, I have an iPhone. I was listening to
the show on iHeart and I said, hey, you know
who call the show? And they did and it muted
the show right. But when I was on there was

(30:38):
a delay after what you said, So I understand your
misgivings about possibly greeting me the oath because we didn't
have our normal rep parte crickets.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
You like crickets, you're a fan of your a fan
of crickets.

Speaker 6 (31:00):
No, but I've heard that they can be like you know,
John the Baptist eight locus.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Are you are you sure he did? I was there
video of it. I don't know. Maybe it's just an
urban legend. You have no idea.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
There's eyewitnesses.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Yeah, eyewitnesses are not very reliable. You know, in court
they say eyewitnesses are very unreliable.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
But yet it provides evidence. But thanks for the call
of Benny. All right.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
