rejecting an offer to be an All Star, who goofed?
I've got to know? Also, how did Rob Manford screw
up the pronunciation of the number one pick of the
Major League Baseball Draft by the White Sox over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
He screwed it up.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
It's the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, it' see the All Star break, well not today's today,
it's on Netflix the home run Derby. The All Star
Game will be taking place on Tuesday. That would be
tomorrow from Phildelphia. And we have a All Star hullible loo.
And I don't know about you, what I.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Enjoy a good hullable loo.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
I do.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Now this involves a stalwart of the fighting pills for.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Years, Zach Wheeler. It turns out that Zach Wheeler.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Was really upset with the whole All Star voting selection
process among the coaches and the players and everybody, except
he's not upset enough to go to the All Star Game,
he declined. Zach Wheeler has declined a replacement invite to
pitch for the National League All Stars on Tuesday. I
(04:52):
don know if you saw this or heard about it.
Perhaps not. Despite a really really sexy season, really good
like an era under two and a half and a
bunch of wins and solid nerd stats and just really
good numbers, Zach Wheeler was not part of the original
(05:12):
All Star Team. He was not selected for the All
Star roster for the Nash League. The All Star Game,
as we mentioned, is in Philadelphia Citizens Bank Park, so.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
He was very upset by that and he did not
bite his tongue.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Zach Wheeler voicing his frustration, calling the snub quote bs
he said, saying that it pisses me off. After a
dominant fourteen strikeout performance over the weekend. Major League Baseball
later offered him a spot as a replacement. They said,
(05:48):
you know what, bat job by us. You know we
want you to be part of the All Star Game.
Why do you just accept this? And they said, okay,
we're gonna offer you, and Wheeler turned it down.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Say what.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
He told reporters that he didn't want to be the
fifth option or feel disrespected, so he said, quote, I'm
not gonna be disrespected. They disrespected me, yell, so I'm
not going to participate now. His agent also ripped Major
League Baseball, saying they were tone deaf, claiming that what
(06:21):
Wheeler's done is a modern medical miracle because of his
comeback from injury. So that is a good jumping off point.
Let us discuss the question. Give me the word, all right,
give me the word for the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zach Wheeler,
who had campaigned to be an All Star, wanted to
be an All Star, then got offered the All Star
(06:41):
spot and rejected the job as a replacement, saying he's
not going to be disrespected. So I've got a Walmart
green jacket and puffy sticker, and we will combine all
of these things together and we are going to make
some chicken teraoki is what We're gonna make a little
(07:03):
side of rice.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
That's what we're gonna do. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
So, first of all, my word to answer the question,
give me the word for phillyes a Zach Wheeler campaigning
for the All Star spot and then rejecting the offer.
My word is performative. What he did was a performative act.
He had a temper tantrum, right, he was very upset.
Temper tantrp with the whole thing. We have a classic
(07:28):
midsummer snub where the player barks at the door for
three days. In this case, Zack Wheeler bark, bark, bark,
just like that for three days and just like your
dog FIGHTO and barking at the mailman. And then the
moment that the mailman comes to the door, Fido hides
(07:51):
under the couch.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
In this case Zach Wheeler.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
In this case, Zach Wheeler hides the second Baseball starts
knocking on the door, saying, Hey, we want you to
come to the al STO give I don't want to
the O swingm Why don't want to go to the
ol stringing.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Well I wanted to go, but now I don't want
to go. Well, why don't you want to go? Well,
disrespect was not You're an All Star.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Nobody knows you think anybody the all streams well, he
used the seventeenth replacement All Star pitcher for the National
League All Stars.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Nobody knows that.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
So Wheelers spent days, not a day. He spent days
publicly bitching about the twenty twenty sixth omission from the
All Star Game and talking about how it pisses him
off and all this and all throwing a total hissy
fit upset with the fans, the media. And then it
turns out he didn't want to go to the game anyway. Okay,
(08:35):
Zach Wheelers like a that he wanted the feeling of
being wanted not to actually go to the game. Call
it a ce situation. Conditional outrage. That's why it was
conditional outrage.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
That's what it was. His his fury, his outrage.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
It only applies when the condition does not suit him properly,
and then he gets really upset and worked up into
a tizzy. The moment so called All Star justice arrived
via a replacement invite, what did Zach Wheeler do?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
He did a one to eighty.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
He did the old Oakie doke and yeah, yeah, psych
just kidding, and I really don't want to go rejected
it because he refused to be the fifth choice. Yeah,
so wonderfuls Baseball's version of screaming at the customer service
rep at Walmart. And then when they say, okay, we'll
give you a refund, well I don't want the refund.
(09:34):
Well why don't you want the refund? You've been in
line complaining that you want a refund. Well I don't
want the refund.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well you weren't respectful enough. Okay, go away, loser, you loser. Yeah,
so he wanted again. Zach Wheeler wanted the honor of
being an All Star, yet only if it was hand
delivered to his aceness or however you say it. So
classic diva behavior, too good for it when it's not.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
On his exact.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, and this does pop up in relationships, right, this
type of thing like somebody wants you to do something
in a certain way and you don't do it, and
then you try to do it as well, I don't
want it anymore, Well.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I don't want it. Well I wanted it that way,
but I don't want it this way. Well, what's up
with that?
Speaker 4 (10:13):
All?
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Right? Now?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Secondly to the draft we go. That's right over the
weekend the draft was going on. That is where everyone's
favorite bozo commissioner, Rob Manfraud took center stage. Rob Manford
Baseball commissioner Rob Manford there at the podium. He announced
the Chicago White Sox picked the number one pick in
the Baseball Draft twenty twenty six draft over the weekend,
(10:39):
and he mispronounced UCLA shortstop Rock Chalowski. He butchered the
guy's name, creating a very awkward situation. The biggest milestone
of your career up until this point, being drafted and
the commission announces your name and you're like, I'm good.
(11:01):
Instead of correctly pronouncing the player's name, Jolawski, which is
his name, Manford pronounced his name Chaluski, so he just
who goofed I've got there, and that went viral. Another
Manford boner to add to his resume. So the question,
how did Rob Manford screw up the pronunciation of the
(11:23):
first pick of the Major League Baseball Draft by the
Chicago White Sox. This is the easiest part of the job.
It's on a card written for you phonetically, or it's
on a telestrater phonetically. Either way, just simply read what's
in front of you, Read and react.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
We're not talking about a seventh round pick or a
twentieth round draft pick. This was the top selection of
the baseball draft. However, Rob Manfred, who has been the
commissioner for over a decade, and he still has these
moments where he reads these names like he's seeing vowels
(12:06):
for the very first time.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
What is that? Is that? A?
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Oh my god? Where did those come from? I can't
believe it. If Manford ran a spelling bee, every one
of those kids would walk off stage and protest. Every
one of those little punk kids in the spelling Bee
would walk off stage. They'd say I'm out. And at
this point, it's a tradition. It really has become a
(12:29):
tradition with Rob Manford. The Masters likes to brag about
the green jacket that they give out to the winner
of the Masters. Major League Baseball has Rob Manford mangling words,
mangling them right. He has now mispronounced.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
More number one picks than.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
The Angels have had winning seasons since he took over
his commission. By the way, that's true. Manford's been the
commissioner since twenty fifteen. The Angels have had no winning
season since twenty fifteen. However, Rob Manford has butchered the
top pick in the draft. So there you go. Now,
joking aside, this continues to be a massive branding problem.
(13:08):
Now Manford's got a couple of years left. He claims
he's going to leave. None of these guys like to
give up power. I'll believe it when Rob Manford is
no longer the commission The draft is this rare moment
that gets attention. It's not about the game, right, and
this mistake reinforces the pre existing narrative, if you will,
(13:32):
that Major League Baseball does not present the game the
proper way, and there's not enough polish. It's modern media,
and this dork is your commissioner, and it's rather embarrassing
and all that stuff. Remember this is the same guy,
Rob Manford who has routinely sounded intoxicated at the World
Series and other events and famously called the Championship Trophy
(13:56):
the prize of prizes in Major League Baseball, a piece
of metal and refuse to punish a team that he
knows cheated in the World Series. But he didn't have
the enough hair on his chest or big enough balls
to punish the cheating A one one thousand and two,
one thousand holes. Couldn't do it, couldn't.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Do it all right now?
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Speaking of that, well, the city we go to Houston,
We go to Houston, Houston, we have a problem.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
This is not about the a holes, It is not
about the ales.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Earlier this offseason, the Texans had a decision they were
to fork in the road, to pay the man or
not to pay the man. Now, the Texans GM ex
pat Nick Caserio. Now, he did pick up c J.
Stroud's fifth year option, keeping him under control through twenty
twenty seven. However, they did not give c J. Stroud
(14:47):
an extension. Training camp starts very soon. Have there been
new developments.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Is c J.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Stroud about to get paid the riches of Solomon? No? No,
apparently not. All indications out of Houston are that he
will not get paid the bag. No bag for you
question the Texans holding off. It would appear based on
the reporting holding off on giving CJ. Stroud their quarterback
(15:18):
a big extension. How does that land for you? How's
that land for you? So I think it's great and.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I'll believe it when I see it. There's still time.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
There's still time for the Texans to cave in and
whether they pay him during the exhibition games or right
before kickoff week one. So we're not completely out of
the woods yet. I love the idea that the Texans
are actually going to do this and have some backbone.
Most of these teams don't have backbone. They don't and
they pay for it. Like the Cardinals. Arizona Cardinals knew
(15:52):
they had a guy that wasn't very good, Kyler Murray,
that would rather play video games than watch tape. They
put it in the contract. He bitched and moaned, they
gave him the contract, and now he's playing quarterback for
the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
And the Cardinals will be lining up at.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Defensive tackle dead caphit will be playing defensive tackle for
the Cardinals this year as a result of that.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Listen, the Texans. I love this.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
This is like a radical concept for the Texans front
office here that you don't have to light money on fire.
You don't have to light money on fire. They're finally
apparently realizing I say this with a wink at a nod,
the difference between one magical rookie season and a decade
long relationship with guaranteed money. Now, as a rookie, st J.
(16:34):
Stroud was was good, absolutely, but facts are facts. And
Stroud went from looking like a franchise messiah, a savior
for mister Irrigation there in Houston all the Texans fans
as a rookie, that's my rookie quarterback right now. He
looks like he's reading defenses like it's defense is in
(16:55):
a foreign language. He has no idea what he's looking at, Like,
what is that? The turnover rate was so high?
Speaker 1 (17:01):
How high was it? It was so high?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
The turnover rate in the in the playoffs should have
been sponsored by office depot. They should have sponsored it.
The Texans get I'll tell you this. They get a
puffy sticker. I'm giving them a puffy sticker for saying,
show us you're that guy again, show us you're that
guy again. Not here's a blank check. We're gonna be
(17:23):
like every other dumb team. And because we liked your
twenty twenty three mixtape, we thought you were really good
in twenty twenty three, so we're gonna pay you now. Well,
you haven't good the last couple years. I know that,
but we're still gonna pay you. Well, why you're you
gonna pay me?
Speaker 1 (17:36):
I've been good?
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Well, it doesn't matter. We think you might be good again.
What the hell think of the twenty twenty six upcoming
NFL season? Like CJ Stroud's mid term exam and he's
the kid who forgot the pencil? Where's your pencil?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Teacher?
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Why I left it at home? Well, you're supposed to
bring the pencil. I know that, but I left it
at home. It's an honest mistake. Okay, Well, we're gonna
have to give you some points off. Well that's not fair,
but it's absolutely fair, absolutely fair. Right is The Ben
Mahlor Show If you would like to be Part eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox that's eight seven, seven, nine,
ninety six sixty three sixty nine.

coming up later this hour at the end of the
hour for your dancing and dining pleasure. A staple of
the show, the instant Advice line will return time now
though for the Mallor riddle of the day. And here
is the malor riddle of the day. The good people
(18:40):
over there at FIFA have already sold out, we are told,
a sold out of blank. Fans have lined up to
pay four hundred and fifty dollars for this item that
comes with authenticity. Again, FIFA already selling out of blank
from the World Cup final for four hundred and fifty
(19:02):
dollars each fans. We'll get this with a letter of authenticity.
That is the malory riddle of the day. The answer,
we'll get to it and we will do it.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Next.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Can you write a malicious song?
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Or are you yaller? I had to invent a word
because nothing rhymes with ben Mallor.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Here's another malicious song.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
I rask with the man.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
And I'm here to perform it, but not my popular demand.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
It's easy to s or big man.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
He seems like a real nice fellow, but all in
men and I sing like computer.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Rachel in a battle.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
And he does the updates, but he doesn't work.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Roberto plays the music and Coachy.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Dlu Parancer a classic song from ras Quit the band

the Ben Mahler Show. If you'd like to be part,

Speaker 2 (20:45):

no talking to me. And right over there in the
producers share we have Brandon.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
You can say aload of Brandon. He will will he respond?
Will he not respond? I don't know, but be D
takes PSD takes. You can check him out.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
All your comments canon will be used against you in
the court of the Mallard Militia, so please act according
all right time now for the Mallard Riddle of the day.
FIFA is apparently already sold out of blank from the
twenty twenty six World Cup Finale, which hasn't even played yet,
for four hundred and fifty dollars each. Fans lining up
(21:24):
to buy this. The thing comes with a certificate of authenticity.
So that is the question. Ferk Dog's what's he going with?
He's going with Ben Malors trash, I got your used
banana peel bab a ganoosh guessed by Alf the Alien
o Piner. That's his answer, Sir smokes A lot checks
(21:44):
in with Hidden Valley FIFA edition ranch bottles for four
hundred dollars.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
What else do we have?
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Let' see page down ranch ice cream from Donkeys Sauce
Mummy that's terrible, A goat head signed by Doc Mike
from Inka Terror red cards from Eke in Roseville, Minnesota.
What else do we have? Mike the Leprechaun says they
sold out of the official FIFA flip flop band aids
(22:10):
for all the players who flop on every play Right
JT the Wing man got it right, bad job by him.
Giant bottle of ranch dressing. Also guests by smokes. What
do we got here? Pizza popa something deep fried, chocolate
covered crickets me and a side of ranch dressing.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
I can't read that? All right, Lorraina, do you have
an answer of the rain.
Speaker 7 (22:33):
I'm going to guess their specialty FIFA leather jacket.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Leather jacket, all right? Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (22:41):
It turns out that FIFA has already sold out of
their grass cubes. They're chopping up the field for the
World Cup finale, and they're charging four hundred and fifty
dollars hitting Yes, I wish I was kidding you. They
come with a letter of authenticity four hundred. So I
did some malor math on this. What do you think
(23:03):
the possible or that FIFA hasn't said how many of
these they have? But if you do the math on this,
the standard pitch for a soccer match is I believe
if I'm correct on this, it's one hundred and five
meters time sixty eight meters, so it's seven thousand, one
forty meters.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
I believe I'm correct on that.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
So sorry you said it was forty Yeah, meters.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
So if you slice it up each piece of grass,
that each part is a three by three each three
three three by three, so seven point six centimeters by
I think I'm right on that, don't question me. So
the math works out to be if they were to
take the entire field FIFA and chop it up into
(23:47):
little bite sized pieces and charge four hundred fifty dollars.
And I don't think they did that, just part of
the field, however, they did, that means at four hundred
and fifty dollars each, you know how much money they
would make?
Speaker 6 (24:00):
Let me put it is random numbers?
Speaker 1 (24:02):
All right? I got, I got, I did the math ory.
How what do you think? How much? How much you do?
Speaker 7 (24:07):
I'm gonna go with three hundred and sixty thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Three hundred and sixty thousand dollars, Oh my god. All right, Brandon,
would you like to play our game here?
Speaker 2 (24:16):
How much would FIFA make if they sold every inch
of the pitch after the World Cup finale?
Speaker 1 (24:23):
I would say thirty million.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
That's a lot. It's a lot, a lot more than
the rein. And you're you're you're high, but you're not
you're low. For what the actual numbers at four hundred
and fifty dollars each, the entire soccer field. If they
sold all of it for four hundred fifty dollars each,
each little three by three thing five hundred and fifty
three million dollars, they would take five hundred and fifty
(24:50):
three million. So my question is, why wouldn't they just
sell the whole thing? And and and and also how
would anyone know?
Speaker 7 (25:00):
You know, I wouldn't need like cleat marks in my square.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
I need to know that there was a foot foot
has been here.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Or a logo or something football.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
Would you do that?
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Back in the day, there was a scam people to
sell like dirt by dirt, and people would make money.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
They're doing that. This is man. There's a lot of money.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Man. I don't know who's paying for that. I do
not want a piece of the turf from the FIFA
World Cup.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
I'm good, I'm good. I just go to the calls,
and who do we have this year? Any meenie, miney moe.
Pick a call. Let's see. I think phones need to
be rebooted. What are we talking about here? Let's see here.
I put them randomly on, you put them randomly.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
Well, he was waiting for the game.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
Okay, so he's been putting them game.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Oh so we have no we have no screen calls. Okay,
all right, we'll just take a call blindly a caller.
You're on the air, unscreened on the Ben Maler Show.
Hello caller, welcome.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Oh how lucky are we? What London?
Speaker 4 (26:04):
What were you doing? Anyway?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
It was waiting for a game, which is like fifteen
minutes away. But I don't know.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I hate that game on Monday.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
I never get why do you hate the game? It's
the instant advice line. It's a great hold. Well, you're
on the air right now, to stop your complaining.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
So at the Madison Square Garden thing, they were out
there the next day picking up all the trash. Yeah,
trash from the party that.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Yeah, well it was they, weren't they weren't.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
It was one guy who was an artist and he
only sold That guy's a dope too. He only sold
like fifty bags of trash. You should have sold more
than that.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Anyway, I'm ready for the Pluza on Thursday morning. Hopefully
not the first doll, but we'll see. And how about
those Red Sox.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Yes, the Red Sox as long as they play bad teams,
they look like a good team. So they're play the illusion,
the illusion of contention. For the Red Sox, the illusion
of contention.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
At least they're in the mix right now. They're in
third place.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
They have a losing they have a losing record.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Did you win? Did you? Did you watch Gimbledon?
Speaker 1 (27:09):
No? No, I didn't.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Well it was the Europeans, it was the Czechs, it
was the Germans.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
I'm aware, I'm aware. I didn't watch it. I'm aware
of what happened. I just didn't watch it.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Okay, But anyway, the Europeans are taking over.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Well, good for the finals.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
My final four for the World Cup are pretty much intact.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
So you want all chalk. Then you're saying it's just.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
You know, no, I had to toss up between German,
between England and Norway.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
But you can't brag about having the teams in the
fund because four of the top four teams and before
the tournament are in the final four.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
So it's all chalk.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Okay. I was watching something called the Sail Boston this weekend.
Have you ever heard it? At? All ships?
Speaker 1 (27:54):
I don't know what that is.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
The tall ships came into Boston and I was on
the boat watching them down down there the near your hotel.
Basically they were passing by a bear and it was
very foggy in the morning. I tried to catch the fog,
but I missed it.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Oh see what he's doing, Dad jokes again? You did that?
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Was that?
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Is that a preview of what's to come? Are you?
Speaker 6 (28:19):
I show you a preview of what's to come? You
know what that means?
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Man, I got it, I got your trip. I gotta
I gotta hang up with it.
Speaker 6 (28:30):

Or that a good time on your trip?
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Is this true? You text her every weekend? Is that accurate?
Speaker 4 (28:38):
I asked her? How was her trip?
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Okay, social should actually go on a trip. No, there's
no trip.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
And just because you have my number, it doesn't mean
you should text me.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Oh this is what happened with me and Doc Mike
Man last time, last time? All right, thank you, last
time member. I do not believe that will be the
last time ever. I think that is it.
Speaker 7 (28:56):
But I do kind of blame you, Ben, because you're
the one who says I go on tour for my number.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Four.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
That's accurate. You do perform. You're a great singer of
the number four.

Do you have any kind of special talent that you
can toss into the mallor palooza.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Well, I'll tell you the story. When I was in
sack of practice with I ended the ball like fifty
times on my head and this guy Paul like jo
must shot to a ball the ball of my head.
Speaker 6 (30:52):
A ball on your head? Great story.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
Yeah, let me threw a ball and it hit the
ball in my head.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
The problem is that doesn't really work on the mallet polls.
Do you have like a.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Comedy routine you can do? Could you do an impersonation.

See, now that's your stick. Your stick, e dog is
to do the joke and not give the punchline. That's
your stick. You just do the jokes, you set the
joke up, and then you just move on to the
next thing. That's your stick.
