Speaker 1 (00:00):
Razzle dazzle. It's our number four, our for the sky's
the limit on this Tuesday, the seventh day of April.
On the original recipe Ben Maler Show, Why is everyone
acting like Lamar Jackson showing up to the Ravens voluntary
workouts as some kind of heroic achievement. It's unbelievable. He's
(00:21):
the franchise quarterback. Also, Andrew luck who famously quit on Indianapolis,
says colch GM Chris Ballard, the Ballard of the ball
did not push him to retire, despite what Summer saying,
how much weight does this have? And what stands out
about Dexter Lawrence being at loggerheads with the Giants and
asking for a trade. We'll talk about that in addition
(00:44):
to everything else. Have a wonderful, wonderful Tuesday. Here we go.
It's our number four. So you showed up to work
and we gotta give you a parade? Is that how
that works? Don't come in the beginning of another hour
of the Ben Mather Show. We are in the air
(01:09):
everywhere teammates, as we say, don't forget the sauce. Do
not forget that coast to coast border, the border and
beyond on the vast and uncontrollably powerful microphones of FSR
guaranteed human emminating a live from the Hammer as we
(01:34):
are hammer Headed from the world famous Fox Sports Radio Studios,
where Quinzel in Oakland reminds us that this hour may
possible in part by our friends that Express Employment professionals
facing production swings are tough skills. Gap workforce solutions from
(01:54):
Express Employment Professionals make hiring easier. Natron from nocal I
Believe and Stockton wants you to find your local office
and see how Express can help you hire smarter and faster.
Visit expresspros dot com today. And Mikey Canoe don't you know, said, Hey,
what about that DraftKings thing? Well, yeah, it's kind of
(02:14):
a big week here. Every everything can turn in a moment.
In augusta DraftKings sports book, America's top sportsbook for live betting,
has action from the first t shot to the final putt,
so you can react in real time right now. Use
the promo code mallards my name help me out on
(02:36):
that m A L L e R. Claim your special
offer at DraftKings Again. That's promo code Mallard's my name,
M a L L E R M A L L
E R at DraftKings League Crown is yours? All right,
put that down and we move on in the broadcast.
So our lead this hour not from college basketball where
me Chigan, lady game if you like misshots, you were
(03:01):
you talk about hog Heaven. In the men's championship game, man,
they could not make shots to save their life. Neither team.
Michigan made two three point shots and won the game
over Connecticut, even though Connecticut outscored Michigan in actual basketball.
But the referees in a very physical game for some reason,
(03:21):
they called more fouls on Connecticut than Michigan in anyway.
That was the difference, the foul shooting, which is just
freaking great. But I leave this hour from the NFL.
We go to Baltimore, Bad Poetry, where superstar quarterback Lamar
Jackson making headlines. He was in attendance, Oh m J.
(03:43):
The first day of Raven's voluntary offseason workouts. Do you
see this? How could you miss it? If you pay
attention to NFL stories? This bounced all over the echo chamber.
The Ravens started their workout a little early, a little
early because they whacked John Harbaugh get out of here,
(04:07):
so they have a new coach. And there he was
Lamar Jackson. Unbelievable, big social media buzz trending topic. Oh
my god, Lamar showed up to offseason workouts. That's a
good jumping off point. Let us discuss the question why
is everyone acting in the football media like Lamar Jackson
(04:28):
showing up to Raven's voluntary workouts is some kind of
heroic achievement. Serious question. So I've got puffy sticker, cartoon, villain,
and pipeline, and we will combine all of these things
together and we are going to wear a different hat
(04:51):
right now and have some Gabba goool. We're gonna have
the Gabba gool and then we're gonna have the babaganoosh
is what we're going to have now. The lead off
the arrow is pointing to on this one at whack
a doodle, not whack a doodle, doo, whack a doodle
on this one seriously. So I woke up. I was,
you know, do the overnight, so I sleep during the day,
(05:11):
and I woke up and I was like trying to
see what happened while I was sleeping. You know, the
first thing you grabbed the phone. You're a little groggy.
I got I got my glasses. I gotta put those on.
So I grabbed the phone and I'm a fudging around
with the phone. I'm like, I see this headline. Oh, Lamar,
what happened? Laura did get an extension? No, no, he didn't
get extendge what happened? Did something bad happen? Maybe he
heard his thumb playing a video game. No, that didn't happen. Uh,
And it said right there the Mars reputation, we know
(05:33):
it proceeds. Yeah, he's in having a good time. Who
doesn't want to have a good time? Unlike some of
these other quarterbacks, though, he would rather I'm telling you,
he would rather work in a deep in a coal mine,
very deep in a coal mine, with no safety gear,
with toxic dust in his lungs, then show up to
(05:55):
voluntary workouts. So I understand that, Like seriously, like, but
what are we doing here? This is the NFL. We're
not some kindergarten sticker chart thing. It's not like, hey,
great chop, Lamar, you made it into the building. Here's
a puffy sticker. In fact, well, you know what, we're
so happy here here's a scratch and sniff, puffy sticker.
(06:16):
How about that? Yeah, Now, some some buffoons are treating
basic attendance like it's landing on the moon, which some
of you think didn't happen. So this tells you how
low the bar has gotten? How low can you go?
How low can you go? Lamar Jackson? Last I checked
(06:38):
franchise quarterback, multi time platinum MVP in the NFL, Lamar Jackson.
So you're I'm supposed to be the franchise quarterback and
we in here talking about April offseason workouts practice. Not
a guy. Not a guy. We talked about practice. So
that means that nobody actually trust Lamar Jackson. The reaction
(07:03):
that this got is so over the top, it's so
out of bounds that it tells you everything you need
to know about the reputation of Lamar jacks This is
not some culture shift, by the way, This what's what's
known as a photo op is what this was. It's hey,
I'm gonna do a good mitzvah. This is a solid
(07:25):
for Jesse Minter, the new head coach that no one's
ever heard of. So this is a solid for this guy.
And there's also some money involved. But this is the
Ravens putting out this this clip like it's like some
hostage video. See say here he is, here's Lamar. Everything's fine,
nothing to see here. Yeah, okay, So Lamar also showed
(07:49):
up because they're supposed to rework his contract. The whispers
in hush tones or that Lamar is gonna get some
money moved around, some new money tossed in, maybe an
new contract that'll be to be determined. So Baltimore's reworking
the contract for Lamar Jackson allegedly. And until Lamar, though,
proves beyond a reasonable doubt that this is just nothing
(08:13):
more than contract choreography, we are going to believe it's
nothing more than contract choreography, all right. Furthermore, to Indianapolis,
a story that still has legs seven years later. Seven
years later, former Colts quarterback Andrew luck was asked about
a claim that he retired because of an ultimatum given
by the Colts GM Chris Ballard, the Ballard of the ball.
(08:37):
He was asked about that Lamar. We talked about Lamar
earlier and his play there, Well, Andrew Lucke, he used
to show up to workouts and things like that. Well,
Andrew Locke rejected. He blocked that claim. He said, no,
he blocked the claim that the team's GM Chris Ballard
influenced his retirement decision ahead of the twenty nineteen season,
(09:01):
and he quit right before the year. So this came
out former Colts tight end Eric Ebron suggesting that Ballard
is the reason that he said, you either are with
us or you're not, and we need to know now.
When asked for clarity, Andrew Luck said via email that
that is not how things unfold. He said, Ballard and
(09:22):
Luck have a wonderful partnership, especially through they had a
wonderful partnership, especially through this decision to retire. Blah blah
blah blah blah, he said, Luck, they remain close. Any
notion of internal pressure that influenced my decision are without merit.
Close quote. All right, So question Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck
(09:44):
saying the Colts GM Chris Ballard did not did not
push him to retire. How much weight does this have?
So normally I would say, well, this is a featherweight,
this is a lightweight. I actually buy this one. I
and am I the buffoon? Am I the one that's
wearing the buffoon hat and no like this. The whole
(10:07):
story that Andrew Luck was pushed to retirement is poppycock.
It's been seven years now. I can't believe it's been
seven years. It's been seven years and we are still
adjudicating this like a cold case. And we've got a
new clue. And really it's not that deep. I don't
believe it's that deep. Like Luck hit the eject button.
(10:27):
He hit the eject button. This wasn't some shadowy Illuminati
conspiracy that we don't need to bring in Joe the
ghost Hunter and try to get to the bottomless. We
don't need to go some smokey back room in a
speak easy in the back of Saint Elmo's in Indianapolis.
We don't need to do that. No puppet strings, no
(10:49):
puppet strings, right, we don't worry about that. Uh And
really what this is no secret handshake? There was no
secret handshake. He Andrew Luck walked away because he didn't
like football. He wanted out, period. Stop. It's not that deep.
He just didn't like it. And if he liked it,
he would have played. They would have ripped the uniform
off him. No, he gave the uniform Backsit I'm done.
(11:11):
I don't want to play anymore. And that's not good enough.
You can't have that. We have to have our heroes
that love football and don't hate it and want to
keep playing. And it's not fair, it's not right. Yeah.
So in the football where it's like, oh no, it's
the cartoon villain, Dick Dastardly. We need a cartoon villain.
(11:33):
Where's Dick Dastardly in this story? And Chris Ballard, the
ballad of the ball is a perfect guy. He's an
easy target. He's like a tenured professor of mediocrity, pumping
out generic brand NFL teams like a factory assembly line,
and one after another. Blame him. He's the man, blame him.
Hanging on him now. According to a minutes long investigation,
(11:58):
Eric Ebron, the tight End, had a personal beef with Ballard,
which is a as we call it, a dead you
what dead?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
You're wit?
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah, dead, you're whit nothing nothing more. Meanwhile, Andrew Luck,
he went into it. He's like tire Woods became a
golfer because his dad wanted him to be a golfer.
Andrew Luck became a football player. That was the family business.
Oliver Luck had played for the old Houston or There's
Love Me Blue, as mister Irrigation knows, and he didn't
(12:30):
have the burning passion for the NFL and all that stuff,
and so he he was good, he was talented and
had some big numbers and all that. But when the
tough things started popping up and the going got tough,
he hit the eject button said I'm out, no moss.
And here we are years later, seven years later, and
still stories popping up, trying to rewrite the ending, which
(12:52):
is wild and crazy. And that's where we are right now.
All right, last thing to New York, pay me or
trade me. Another NFL player has made the demand very
popular this time of the year. So Giants defensive tackle
Dexter Lawrence has asked for a job transfer. Not happy.
(13:13):
He is not going to participate in off season workouts
that are going to be taking place later today. The
Giants will begin off season workouts, so we'll get some
good stories about Harbaugh and the Giants and all that
stuff and how great the quarterback Jackson Dart looks and
all everything sunshine, rainbows and lollipops. Because the Giants won't
lose a game until September, so they're in good shape
(13:35):
on that real game. So Dexter Lawrence and the Giants
have been through now two off seasons. We are told
trying to get a new contract. I know it's hard,
and they've negotiated. They're at stalemate right now. Nothing has
been done. And so now Lawrence with two years remaining
on his deal, it's really tough. I hope he'll be
(13:56):
able to make. It's going to have to eat some
Rama noodles and some celect frozen pizza. He'll be making
twenty million dollars this upcoming season. Can we all start
to go funding for Dexter Lawrence? So the question what
stands out about defensive star? I say that loosely, Dexter Lawrence.
How can you be a star in the Giants? They've
(14:16):
sucked forever? So what stands out about Dexter Lawrence being
at loggerheads with the Giants over his contract? So Big
Sexy Dexi, that's his nickname, not my nickname for him.
Sexy Dexi has got the double big gulp, the double
big gulp of hutzpa to demand a fresh mountain of
(14:38):
moolah Malar's mountain of money. On this one after the
year that he had in twenty twenty five, where he
was essentially a three hundred and forty pound eyewitness, a spectator,
and that's about it. Lawrence sack production went down ninety
four point four percent. How how low can you go?
(15:02):
Half a sack? He had half a sack more than
you had in the NFL, except he played all seventeen games,
So you were more likely to find sasquatch walking around
Central Park than to find Dexter Lawrence Sexy Dexi an
opposing backfield last year. Nevertheless, Lawrence is twenty eight. He
(15:25):
figures this is prime time to make more money. And
he does have some Pro Bowls, which is where they
play tic tac toe and things like that. And he's
been on nothing but dog food teams with the Giants.
So where does he end up. Let's play the hypothetical
what about ism? What about this? What about that? What
about ism? So the first thing that popped up in
(15:51):
the magic Crystal Ball, the first thing that popped up
here for Lawrence is the pipeline Hardball to Harball, Harbaugh
to Harball. Yeah, so it makes it. We're looking at
John to Jim the Chargers are sitting there with a
fair amount of cap space burning a hole in their pocket.
(16:13):
They're desperate for the anchor. They haven't really, unless I
missed it, they haven't done that signature thing this offseason.
Jim Harball loves offensive lineman, defensive lineman. He loves trench
warfare more than he loves Khakis. Yeah, more than other cakeys.
So if Lawrence is available, we know he's not Chop Liver.
(16:37):
He's not Chell, So no, he's not. But he's a
high price considering the lack of big game pedigree. He's
a high priced luxury item that stopped working last year.
Stopped working last year. And so whether it's the Chiefs
or the Chargers, the Bears or the Patriots or whoever
else is sniffing around, they're sniffing right there. Someone is
(16:59):
going to pay for the name brand while getting the
generic store version. From twenty twenty five is the Ben
Mahlor Show. If you'd like to come in on this
or anything else that has happened, we had a new
champion in men's college basketball. Any of that is fair game.

(19:30):
the social event of the year, Well, I like to
think the social event of the year is none other
than the Mallard Meet and greets, although some some say
that it's that Taylor Swift Travis Kelcey thing ofm a
jig which is going to be taking place in Rhode Island.
(19:51):
There's no need for UH, there's no need for UH.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
And their love.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
So I say, are we going to be in that area?
We're not. We're gonna miss it by a month. Rhode Island.
According to the tabloids, they claim that the wedding of
the Summer will take place on June thirteenth in Rhode Island,
So there you might have to make another trip to
(20:19):
the big event there in Rhode Island, so be part
of the festivities there. So what fun that will be?
Let me know how that goes. I'm good on that.
I am a good Zoe on that. Oh absolutely, What
else did I say? I thought there are a couple
of things that I was gonna rant about. I decided
not to. One of them involves the status of tau
(20:44):
Knee Romo, so Jim Nance was asked in an interview recently,
he was asked about the criticism around Tony Romo as
his partner on CBS. Romo's been getting killed. They say
he's just lazy. All he does is golf. He doesn't
do his homework. I've been a huge Romo fan over
the years. I really don't pay that close attention when
Romo's doing the games these days because I'm busy doing
(21:06):
other stuff and I've got the mute button on, or
I'm flipping around. Although usually does the late game and
it's like one or two other games. Anyway. Nance acknowledged
the criticism. Of course, do you think he a A
pushed back on it, B no comment or C. C.
Pile law? Well the answer, hey, yeah, yeah, here's what
(21:30):
Jim Nan said. He said, we've been together for nine years,
he and Romo. I didn't know they were married together
for nine years. It's been a joy ride. I know
there's a lot of noise out there, and sometimes the
noise just feeds more noise, he said. But Tony doesn't
pay any attention to it. You know that's bullcrap. By
the way, one hundred per Tony is aware of it,
(21:52):
and he knows it. And yeah, Nance says, I don't
pay any attention to it. You're aware of it too,
Hello says. There are a lot of people that love him. Yeah,
they're called his family, the great majority. Dude, I love him.
It's been a thrill working with him. That's from Jim Nance,
who gave me a lot of fluff. Let's go to
(22:13):
the phones. I see a blast from the past. We
go now to Sin City, Lost Wages, Nevada. I know
Tammy in Vegas will be excited about this. We say
hello to the man, the myth, the legend. If you
need someone to win an Olympic gold medal swimming in
the fountains of the Bellagio, who you're gonna call mouth
washed Mike baby, Vegas.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Baby to me?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Yeah, live and chickens.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
So I was trying to find you.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
I was.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
I was in Vegas. I was gonna come say hello
to you. I didn't know where you were. I couldn't
get a hold of you. I did not see you.
I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Where
have you been, Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Jerry?
Speaker 1 (22:56):
You know?
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Uh? Tunnel? I don't know. I'll alat of time on
the street. You know, I'm a professional carpenter. I had
a house on house on HDTV, and you don't that
i'd have a house on my own.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
But I don't Are you are you? Are you calling
us from Are you calling us from a tunnel?
Speaker 3 (23:22):
I'm calling you. No, I'm not calling you from a bus.
And I've got a jacket over my head to try
to drown out some background.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Okay, yeah, it sounds really good. It sounds really good,
right good? Are you right, Loraine? A really good audio?
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Yes, quality audio?
Speaker 1 (23:42):
So you're on are are there?
Speaker 6 (23:43):
People.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
It's it's it's two thirty in the morning in Vegas.
Is there are there people on the bus right now?
There's other people on the bus with you.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Yeah, there's on the and you know.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
The week Okay, who cares about that? So you went
to you went to rehab. Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Oh? Yeah, I die for forty five days. I didn't
drink for forty five days.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
I thought you would die if you didn't drink for
forty five.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Days a lot, you know, I thought so too when
I got out of rehab after forty five days and
then check myself and.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Nobody for me. And when I got out, it took
me about a half hour, and like, you know what, Yeah, so.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
You went to Okay, another successory. So you went to
rehab for forty five days, you got out, you waited
at least half an hour, and then you went to
get some mouthwashed.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
For those for those who don't know why, why I
would tick No, I take a breath hold, I say so.
Normally when the audio is this bad, we hang up
on the car. But this is mouthwash, Mike, this is
a legend. We've done a few of these meet and greets.
In Vegas and thanks to our buddy slug and he
puts those together and we're very grateful. Hopefully we'll do
another one later this year. And so Mouthwash Mike showed
(25:13):
up to the first one and he had mouthwash, but
not the green mouthwash, of the blue mouthwash, the yellow mouthwash,
and he has that at all times, and he was
the starter the show mouthwuf. He invited us to go
down to the Belagio so he could jump in the
fountains and swim around, which I thought was a very
kind offer. I did not take him up on the offer,
but I thought it was a very kind offer to do.
(25:34):
And we were worried about you. We didn't hear from
you for over a month. We thought, oh no, what
happened to our friend Mouthwash Mike. But you're alive, and
well you're okay.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
You know, you know, Sonny is so much walle the last.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Well, that's not very nice. That's not very nice.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Yeah, yeah, all right.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
I gotta go because the quality is really bad. Can
you cook call tomorrow or something?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
All right, it's a sports show. Yeah, I was done
for text.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Okay, I don't know what he's saying.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
I don't know he would have gone for Texas Tech.
Texas and what I don't know that's what I said,
Texas Tech. I don't think that's what he's said. No,
I don't think that.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
I think it is.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
No, I don't think so. Is that what you said?
Mouth watched Mike something about Texas Tech. I'm not doing that.
Let's say hello to Mark, who's in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hello, Mark, welcome,
You're on the Ben Mather Show. Hello sir.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
If I was any better, I would not have taken
that last call, but I did. Yeah, that was painful.
So what's going on? What do you got here? What
do you got? You gotta dazzle everyone right now. You're
gonna clean up the mess that I just made.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
I had.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
There's a spill on Aisle seven.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
I don't par anyway. I've got a question. Are you
meaning Greek? How far south do you come?
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Well, it depends. I usually I try to do them
when I'm traveling somewhere anyway, if I'm visiting a relative
or something like that. We did one in this the one,
the furthest south we've done is Charleston, South Carolina. We
were in Charlestown. Yeah, well that was a couple of
years ago. But yeah, yeah, yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
You plans to do any more closer?
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Would you would you like us to come to West
Palm Beach? Is that what you're asking for? Would you
like us to come to your backyard?
Speaker 4 (27:38):
No, I'm rather than Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
I would not mind the Miami Yeah yeah, my gascon
retired to Miami. The state is place over there. Oh no, no,
you know now. The reason I'm asking because I I'm o,
my god, I'm not supposed to travel too far. Oh
I got you some medical stuff. I hear you, man,
(28:01):
I hear you.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Yeah, you know I don't care about that. I said,
if I can get to meet and greet, it's.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
You got me. I'm going all right, trust me. It's
not I love that you love the show, Mark that
that's awesome. It's not worth risking your health to go
to a meet and gree But I would love to
meet you at some point. And I do have family
in Florida. I don't see them very often. I have
friends in Miami. So at some point, I'm sure I
haven't been to Miami in years. I'll have to get
back to Miami. And we'll let you know I haven't either.
(28:30):
Oh there you go, look get that more. Yeah, you
know how it is, right, you know the deal? Yeah, exactly.
All right, Well, good luck with your your medical stuff.
Hopefully they get that all cleared up and that could
make you feel good and all that. Yes, No, I
