Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kabooms.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
If you thought four hours a day, twelve hundred minutes
a week was enough, think again. He's the last remnants
of the old republic, a sore fashion of fairness. He
treats crackheads in the ghetto gutter the same as the
rich pill poppers in the penthouse.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
The clearing House of Hot takes break free for something special.
The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller starts right now.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
In the air everywhere. The Fifth Hour with me Ben
Mahler on an early Sunday, and not just your normal
early Sunday the afterglow or is that fire over there?
We'll explain before we get into that, though. Let's let's
have OHIOO get me in the mood, the great Ohiow,
(00:51):
It's in all right now. Every week we try to
have someone new on the podcast, one of our friends
(01:11):
in the Malard Militia. We have gone through the rolodex.
We have checked off big names like Justin and Cincinnati
and Robbie the Mariner, fin down the Line, Down the Line,
our friend in England, Terry in England, has been on
the podcast and others. And now we spin the magic
(01:33):
wheel round and round and round and around. Big Money,
Big Money, Big Money is stop and now making his
way his maiden voyage. On the fifth Hour mail Bag,
on this fourteenth day of June, we present j.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Scoom Ye baby in the House.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Well, I want you to I am very happy here
Jayscoop it is. I love your contributions over the years.
You've been so great. You brought brought us up to
Seattle for the great meet and greet we did before
the pandemic, but all the songs you've deputized other members
of the show, I know you and just Josh have
done a lot of cool stuff music wise, and the
(02:20):
Milkman more recently with the song for Lorena. So it's
been great having a part of the show all these years.
And your timing could not have been more perfect because
I had a couple of people lined up for the
podcast Jayscoop, and for whatever reason, I don't know, I
don't know what it was, because of the nick game,
and they were doing stuff, but people that said they
(02:42):
were gonna do it, and then I couldn't get a
hold of them, and then I was reaching out to
some other people and then and then you, randomly you
had popped up on my phone at about that time.
The timing could not have been better, Jayscoop, So I
thank you for reaching out.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I do the sign from the militia gods, you know, so.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
You bail me out. Now, you used to live in Seattle.
You've lived in northern California for a little while. You
were from there, right, and you're back in that area?
Is that correct? Am I right on there?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, I'm from California and then you know, after high school, military,
after that kind of little bit of nomadic life. But yeah,
I was up in Washington there for about eight years
and now I'm back in Cali.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
There you go. You had a little stopover in Ukraine, right,
you were there?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah, Ukraine, Ukraine, the year and a half over there.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah for sure. All right, we have mail before we
get to the mailbag. The reason I said, well, things
are crazy and all that. The Knicks won the championship
on Saturday Night, and what I.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Was gonna watch that? You ruined it for me?
Speaker 1 (03:48):
I know, I run all those that watch on demand.
You're screwed with. Yeah, the Knicks and I have mixed emotions.
I was hoping the Spurs would come back and win
this series because I could enjoy some shot in Freud.
I do have a lot of friends that are Knicks fans,
and so after the game, I was I was being polite, Jayscoop,
I wasn't a douche. I sent some text messages to
(04:11):
all my New York people. I told my brother, I said, listen,
you should probably stay in. He lives in the city.
I said, stay in unless you want to go get
a TV or destroy a car, then you can go outside.
Other than that, you know, just stay in your home
and you'll be fine. Nothing to worry about. One of
the all time great choke jobs. And I'm sure we'll
be ranting more about this on the Overnight Show on
(04:31):
Sunday night. In the Monday, the post more than the
autopsy on what happened in San Antonio. I did the math,
though I did some backup the Napkin mal math Jay
Scoop and the Spurs. If my math is correct, the
four games they lost collectively, they had seventy one points
total in leads. They had a twenty nine point lead
(04:52):
in the most famous game of the finals, they blew
a sixteen point lead in the game on Saturday night,
and the other two law they had a twelve point
lead and a fourteen point lead, and they blew all
of them in losing this series to the New York Knicks,
And so congratulations to the Knicks. I'd fire the coach
(05:13):
if I owned the Spurs, and I would get rid
of the dynamic, though I'd certainly get rid of darn Fox,
who sucked at a time you cannot suck in that game, well,
actually in multiple games, as he did. The joke is
he did provide Mike Brown a championship, his old coach
from the Sacramento Kings. It just he had to wear
(05:34):
a Spurs uniform and Mike Brown had to coach the Knicks,
and so there you go. But Dearren Fox three of
fifteen in the game last night, combine that with his
bonehead decision in the game they had a San Antonio
Blue a twenty nine point lead, where he had three options,
call a time out, reset, get fouled, dribble, get fouled,
(05:56):
or go to the basket and get blocked and then
give the Knicks the win. And he made the wrong
decision there. And how about Stefan Castle one of ten
from the floor, and he scored late in the fourth
quarter the Spurs back court in that game five last night,
the Spurs back court four of twenty five from the floor. Now,
(06:20):
I didn't play in the NBA, Jayscoop, I don't think
that's good. Am I being mean? Jay Scoop to say
that if you're starting backcourt in the NBA Finals takes
twenty five shots and makes four of them, you've done
something terribly wrong. My computer like brain tells me that
sixteen percent shooting.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yikes, I mean, come on, sixteen percent shooting. You know
you got to consider it. The glass barely full. You
gotta be an optimist about this building.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
That's is not half empty. The glass is completely empty
and it's in pieces. Right now, All right, let's get
to the mailback. First one up is from Richard in Michigan.
It's kind of a big state. He says, this is random,
it's a non sequitor, but we'll start with this because
it was the first one that came up. Richard says, Ben,
should they outlaw these self driving cars? And then he says,
(07:14):
there's apparently a thing where it's happening in the US,
but in China it became a big deal where Chinese
drivers are using tiny plastic heads to fool the autopilot
safeguards on the Tesla's. So I've never had a Tesla.
I've only been in a Tesla one time. I don't
really know much about Tesla's other than I was told
(07:37):
that the autopilot in order for it to work, the
driver has to be sitting and paying attention. They like,
monitor your eyes and if you're moving too much or
you're sleeping, the autopilot will shut off. So if that's
the case, obviously this would be working around. I don't
think they're going to get rid of self so self
driving cars because of some knuckleheads fooling the Tesla safety guards.
(08:02):
Although that's pretty creative. It's like the people Jayscoop in
the carpool lane that put the dog in the back,
you know what I'm saying that whole thing. Yeah, all right,
what is next on the mail bag? What do we
have here? Let's see, we've got Reggie from Detroit who
writes in and how about that back to back in
(08:24):
belly to belly from the state of Michigan. Reggie says,
Benny and friend that would be Jay Scoop, who's with me? Reggie.
Reggie says that what is this The authorities have removed
more than twenty seven thousand illegal streams in piracy crackdown,
(08:48):
Global Piracy Crackdown ahead of the World Cup. Ben Reggie says,
is this the end of the Russian websites? Have they
solved the piracy dilemma? That's from Reggie in Detroit. Yeah, yeah, Reggie.
So the way this works, it's kind of like a
(09:08):
game of whack them all. You cannot win. If you
take down twenty seven thousand of these websites, there will
be fifty four thousand that pop up tomorrow. So it's
a game you cannot win. The websites they make a
decent amount of money. I'm not sure how. I guess
advertising those pop up ads is how they would do it, obviously.
(09:30):
So yeah, that's a big number, twenty seven thousand illegal
streaming sites. That's a massive amount of piracy, and it
doesn't even scratch the surface. It's kind of like going
down to the beach, go down to Santa Monica or
whatever your favorite beach is, and you take a cup
of sand, a red party cup of sand off the
(09:51):
beach and then you wander away. You can't say, well,
I've cleared off the sand on the beach. Well, you know,
you took one cup of sand. That's how I don't
think realize how massive the piracy thing is. It's tremendous.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
You'll have.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Jay Scoop. You would never take part in that, right,
that would be wrong to take part.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Oh, I would never do that.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
But if I did, I would never forget the time
that I watched the whole NFL season on one of
those sites. And then and I know they did this
on purpose all the way that Super Bowl Aaron Rodgers
they won with the Packers on that day, boom, I
go to that site, FBI logo, they shut it down.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
I was scrambling. I didn't know what to do. I
was so pissed. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
I think they did that on purpose that timing, but
I had to scramble with my father to find some
bar nearby that was, you know, playing the super Bowl.
But yeah, like you said, then next thing, you know,
you can find whatever the next site is.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember when they did that on
right for the Super Bowl, and there were people like
yourself who were freaking out. They're like, oh my god.
And yeah, within within a day or two, it was
back to normal out back John and Joanna write in
on the mail bag, Hey Big Ben and special guests
(11:15):
that would be Jay Scoop Ben. You have mentioned on
the radio show before that you don't listen to other
sports talk radio shows because you want your takes to
be completely yours and not influenced by the gas bags
and blowhards that are out there. There was another time
that you mentioned that although you enjoy music, you are
not an extreme music fan. That got us thinking out back.
(11:37):
John and Joanna said, we would love to know what
you do listen to in the car when traveling to
and from the north Woods when you have to go
into the FSR studios. Thank you always there you go. Yeah,
So I'll have some music on in the background. I've
pointed out before. It changes by the by the month.
(11:59):
Usually one month I'll switch it up and I'll put
on I like lately, anything from classical music to a
little Latin jazz, you name it. I'll switch it up
just to have something going on in the background. And
then I've got like a bunch of songs that I
(12:20):
do like. I don't really have the music gene per se,
but I have some songs that I've enjoyed, you know,
you pick them out from different years when you were younger. However,
I realized this, Jayscoop, and you're a music guy. You're
very talented, and I love the songs I love, but
I have to listen to them and then kind of
go away from them for a long time because I've
heard them so many times. Like you know what I mean,
(12:42):
If you keep listening to them over and over again,
at some point you can't hear them anymore. You're like,
that's enough. I got to take a break. And so
I'm at that point right now. And yeah, I don't
normally listen to other radio shows because I just want
to do my own own thing. And I pointed out
if you listen to other stuff, even by Osmosis Osmosis,
(13:06):
it just kind of seeps into your head and so
you might steal something from somebody and out. I don't
really want to do that. I love Jay Scoops music though,
big fan of the Jay Scoop tune.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
But yeah, when when I'm when i'm recording that stuff,
by the time you guys play it like, I've heard
it a million times when I'm editing it, so for example,
even editing that love Boat version of the Queen of
Hearts thing.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
That thing is.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Running through my head like all day long. I can't
get it out of there. So you know, I love
it to death. But by the time you guys hear
it for the first time, I've heard it a million times.
And then and then the other part is you're talking
about you know, people wanting to know what shows you,
the sports and whatnot you listen to.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
You know.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
I remember working at a market research place and I
had to be on the phones like for that eight
hours and the last thing I wanted to do after
I got home was get on the phone.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
You know.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
There was like a few people I saw that could
do it, but that was the last thing I wanted
to do after I spent eight hours doing it.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Oh yeah, for sure. And it's part of the problem
that I have is I talk for four hours a
night and I do a podcast on the weekend. So
when I'm not working, I just like to sit there
like a lug, just a big lug, and not really
talk to anybody. I just want to like chill out.
And that becomes problematic sometimes because, as you know, Jay Scoop,
(14:35):
a married man, you have to do certain things. There's
certain requirements on the weekends, and a lot of them
require social activity, and so you just kind of have
to roll with the punches. But thank you out back
John and Joanna a couple of staples of this podcast.
They've become staples of this podcast. Alf from the Coast
Right Since says Ben and friend Foody Fun two point zero.
(15:00):
Alf says, I don't know if this is real or bs,
but I recently saw that McDonald's is bringing back the
fried apple Pie nationwide for a two week run in
the US this month. Also, Ben, I'm not sure if
you paid off your teas from the other podcasts, but
the special feature Amazing Tale if not what you mentioned
(15:21):
to here. There you go, not Benny bad Finger, there
you go. I have my burned finger, which is actually
hurt more the last couple of days than it did
when I initially burned my finger putting it into the dishwasher.
So yeah, I would doubt the fried apple Pie thing
(15:44):
is real, because why would you do something for two
weeks that doesn't I mean, I haven't seen it, so
I don't know. Alf. There is a location in southern
California in Downey, California, which is like the original one.
Not the original McDonald's, but one of the early McDonald
and you can get the original fried apple pie at
(16:04):
that location, which I think is either one the only
or one of just a couple that you can get
the fried apple pie at. So uh yeah, the if
you're if you're an og and you love McDonald's, that
was the way to go. And uh as far as
the special feature of Amazing Tale, Alf, my brain is
(16:27):
so fried right now, I have no idea what you're
talking about. So we're just gonna move on. Quwang from
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, right since says guaranteed human. First off,
a group of pigeons is most commonly called a flock,
says Quang, depending on their special activity or setting. Groups
(16:47):
of pigeons are also called a kit when they're flying,
a loft, when resting or housed together, and not a herd.
This came up on the show, he says, Sorry, Lorena, yeah,
and so there you go. Sorry, sorry, but yeah, we
(17:08):
were wondering because on Colin Cowherd show, everything's the herd.
You know, it's the herd, you know, because his name
cow Herd and all that. Also, Quang says, has marcel
in Brooklyn ever been sworn in, you idiot. I don't
recall Marcel and Brooklyn being sworn in the show. I
(17:28):
believe he's at a higher level, and I don't think
either one of us, Jay Scoop has been able You've
been able to meet a lot of the fans of
the show. I have, I've met most of them. I
don't think I'll ever meet Marcel in Brooklyn. I don't
think that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
So how cool would it be to meet Kwang?
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Like he's one of my favorite people that contributes because
of how far away he is, you know, it just
boggles my mind that this show, you know, does that
connection that far away.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
I love hearing when.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
He he writes in or the rushing Kid or you know,
like where when was his name Audubon before before he
moved back to StAst side.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Of the auto bon yeah bottom, yeah, yeah, yeah, we
had that Ozzie was from Western Australia. Yeah, the part
of Australia no one lives and it's just it's just
kangaroos and there's not enough water to support life. And
he lives out there in the middle of nowhere. Uh yeah, well,
thank you kwang. I I'll let Lorena know she Yeah,
(18:26):
she screwed up. I'm sure she'll be very happy about that.
Ferg Dog writes in says Ferg Dog out early for
good behavior. In Fullerton. He says, hello, Ben, when is
the what's the last time either of you went to Yosemite?
I know that's a long trip for an for well,
I guess he thought, well, originally Andre was going to
(18:50):
be in here, so I guess it was for Andre.
But but you're here, Jay scoops. I you live not
too bad to drive where you are in northern California.
I when I go to a national park, I've never
been to Yosemite. I go to Sequoia. That's where I go,
which is kind of near King Kings Canyon, Sequoia, which
is Fresno adjacent. So that's typically the national park.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yeah, for sure, but you'll still get you know, you
still have some of those big redwoods or I think.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yes, I don't think it's in Yosemite, right, said yosemities
further up? I think much further up.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
It's got it's got something there. I don't I don't remember.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
You know, they have like but nothing like what it
is where you were talking about.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah, Sequoia. I love the giant forest. That's my favorite
spot that, like the huge Sequoia trees which are three
hundred years old. And Yosemiti's got you know, you know,
Yosemi's got giant everything there. But I have you I
guess you've never been, right, you've never been to Yosemite.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Oh no, I've been multiple times, and especially growing up.
When I was growing up, I was in that after
school program with the YMCA, and so during the summer
they would always take us out to places like Yosemite.
So so I did it growing up, and then as
an adult, you know, I've covered a lot more ground there.
(20:16):
Of course, you appreciate it more as an adult.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
When you're a kid, You're like, what are we doing?
There's true cares, there's trees.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Come on, it's just like the last one.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
By the way, Ferg Dog wrote in about that. I
think you said Ferg Dog did, oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Do you think he's gonna be like Mike Tyson? You
know Mike Tyson was like he was unstoppable. Yeah yeah,
that slip up with Buster Douglas. But when he went
to prison and then he came back out and it
was just it was never the same after that. Do
(20:49):
you think Ferg Dog's game was going to be affected
by his his his stint in the Gray Bar Hotel.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
It's it's going to take time. As you know, Jay Scoop.
Once you've seen the things, the trauma that Ferg Dog
has seen being in Nyper Jail, it's a whole new
world and his whole perspective. I've noticed the edge is
not the same. That's a great take by you, Jayscoop.
The edge not quite the same since Ferg Dog was
(21:17):
released on furlough from Cyber Jail, so we will keep
an eye on that. He also said, can I borrow
the mal ormobile when I go? I think, what you know?
You should borrow borrow, hollering James borrow his his car
if he had Have you met hollering James, Jayscoop, I
know you've met most of the people here. Have you
(21:38):
met I have not.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I wanted to go up the Minnesota route. Of course
I would have gone up there and then across to Montana,
But yeah, I didn't get to go up that way.
And there's a pretty cool contingent of people up there.
In Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Yeah, Yeah, Minnesota has been great to the show. They
love love their sports and that morning show that we're
the lead into the Power Trip Morning Show. I believe
it's called There in Minnesota. I was on as a
guest with the eighty Day Remote in Vegas at four
in the morning. I was there at four in the morning,
and the bar was packed at New York, New York
(22:12):
with Minnesota people drinking at four in the morning to
watch their radio show. Was awesome. I was so impressed,
Like Meat Sauce and the boys there on that morning show.
How popular they are. Barry from South Carolina, right center
the mail bag. He says, yo yo, ma, Benny. If
these weight loss drugs were available when you were in
your bigger days, do you think you would have used them?
(22:35):
It's a good question, Barry. I don't like taking a
lot of medication, and I've never liked taking a lot
of medications, so my knee jerk reaction would be say no. However,
at the same time, I look and say, well, if
I need to lose a lot of weight and it
was like the quickest way to do it, I'd say
(22:55):
it's fifty not even fifty to fifty. I'd say it's
like four forty sixty. Uh in the sixties, I wouldn't
do it. But I know tons, I don't know. I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
So, man, what what do you say at J. Scoop?
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I think if somebody said, hey, then look, all you
gotta do is every like fourth skittle.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Isn't ozempic pill. You're not gonna put anyone.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Isn't like a needle thing or something like that. I
don't want to do a needle.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Don't you have to don't know.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
I don't if it's an injection. Yeah, if it was
a pill, of course you take the pill, big deal,
you know, just have a as you said, have a
couple of skittles and have an ozempic or whatever. Uh
J T the wingman from uh near Knoxville, he said,
he says it's Severville, Tennessee. I keep mispronouncing this. J.
(23:52):
Scoop s E V I E R V I L
l E. I have no idea. He's told me before,
and I keep forgetting so always just saying you're not
sever sever I don't know Feaverville or something. I feel
like vill is right, says dear Ben and guest, JT
the Wingman says, as we are reaching the end of
(24:15):
the pro bouncy ball se well just ended the last
night and the NHL season. Do you believe that the
World Cup will take over the daily talk or will
it be just our annual quiet time with only baseball
for the middle of the summer. I know you did
the pick em for the World Cup, but can that
(24:36):
carry the monologue. Fortunately, we will have the mal or
Palooza to get us through the All Star break, but
since I know you pride yourself in quality monologues, the
material will be thin. That's from JT the Wingman. JT.
There's always stuff going on, and that the days of
you know, some days obviously are less than others, but
(24:57):
the days of nothing going on. I lived that life.
We lived it during the pandemic. That was more recently
in twenty twenty and twenty twenty one, when we were
all on lockdown. I think parts of California are still
on lockdown, and that's a different conversation. But anyway, listen,
there will be plenty of things to talk about. JT.
(25:18):
The World Cup. I'm getting the sense, unless there's a
big controversy, the only thing people really are into is
Team USA nashally and I'll play it. I'll play it
by year. If there's something really good going on, then
we'll be into it. And we have a bunch of
trade rumors with Giannis Adenta, Coombo and some of the
other big names in the NBA. They're going to be
(25:40):
changing teams. You've got the NBA Draft, so there's stuff
to talk about. There's another wave of NFL free agency,
and we're about a month away from the start of
NFL training camp, which is not necessarily great talk radio.
It gives us something to talk about, not great. Think
it's a little something different. So there's always something going on, and.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
There's always marble racing.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
I mean, come on, you can't say there it's gonna
be thin if I mean, if you listened during that
pandemic time you saw you saw Ben pull everything out
of that hat. I mean, if you can get through that,
I'm convinced you could get through anything.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Apocalypse, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Oh yeah, yeah. That was the ultimate because every year
in sports radio, most of the guys would take vacation
during the All Star break because there were two days
the day before the All Star Game of the day
after the All Star Game, when there really wasn't anything
going on, and so guys would take that vacation and
never have to worry about it. And then when the
(26:44):
pandemic happened, Yeah, we had no games from mid March
until I think it was I don't know exactly. I
think it was July. It was either late June or
early Joly. I'm gonna get it up right now. That
started dirty, but hold on.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
And fun fact, that's when me and just Josh linked
up because prior to that I had been solo and
then there was like nothing going on, and we were like, hey,
let's start writing some songs about the pandemic. So like
our first like three songs in a row were all
about you know, pandemic, COVID and all that. And then
(27:22):
finally sports started back up and we started doing about
other things.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Yeah, it was Wednesday, March eleventh, was the last NBA
NHL game Wednesday, March eleventh, twenty twenty. Pandemic happened that night,
and then no games until July twenty third. So from
March eleventh to July twenty third, Bupkus squad douche on
the sporting calendar and the show. We had more people listening,
(27:50):
which still blows me away. Jay Scoop's kind of embarrassing.
We had more people listening when there were no sports
than when there are sports. We had to higher audience
share on Fox Sports Radio during the pandemic that we've
ever had before or since. Pretty crazy. It's just we
do well, we do well, but it's not you know,
it's not like that.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
But you're already you're already practicing that, you know, night in,
night out, with all the shenanigans and all that.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
That's why I can't remember.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
There was a call, maybe like a week ago, and
there's a caller who almost felt bad because he wanted
to talk about sports.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
He's like, well, you guys don't really do that though
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Uh yeah, yeah, I know. And I point, you can
talk about whatever you want. Just be somewhat entertaining, Like
that's my that's my thing. It's like, just don't be
boring and all that. But it is true no matter
what I talk about. And I get a lot of
you know, I get a lot of flak for the
monologues and stuff like that, but I spent a lot
of time talking about the monologues and preparing for the monologues,
(28:49):
and then people call up and they don't want to
talk about anything I say, so it doesn't really matter anyway.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
It's like Sporto whoopee Pie versus Goofy whoopee Pie exactly,
Goofy dominates.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
That's pretty much Ryan f Ryan Sea writes in from Maine.
He says, I'm typing this email. He says, I'm going
to take a guess and say the mystery guest is
Terry from England. No boys, my question this week? Ryan says, Ben,
I know you're married. Is your wife forcing you to
watch Love Island? Or is it just mine? Ben? This
(29:23):
show is awful. It's trash and very addicting. If not
Love Island, what show does she put on that you
are forced to watch? That's from Ryan seas she puts
on a lot of old movies. My wife loves old
Marilyn Monroe movies, like early Hollywood. Well that's not really
early middle Hollywood, when there were big giant productions and
(29:46):
everyone would all of a sudden break out into song
for no reason at all. It just starts singing, and
you're like, why is that person singing? I don't understand. Okay,
it's part of the movie, but it's dumb. Okay, just
watch it. Stupid that only so that goes on? Uh
and not Love Island. I usually I'm working and she'll
be watching something. I don't really pay attention to it.
(30:08):
There are some I call them Switzerland shows that we
watch that are usually like home improvement type shows, that
kind of thing. It's common ground. Yeah, I don't most
of the stuff she watches, I'm not. You know, that's
not my not my jam. Well what about you, Jay Scoop?
Any neutral ground shows you forced to watch stuff that
(30:30):
you don't want to watch? Or is your wife not
watch TV at all? No?
Speaker 3 (30:35):
No, typically like films, normal films and stuff.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
You know, when I when I'm solo, I hate to
admit it, but I'm a reality show freak or competition
show freak, either of those ones. Even when I had
a friend who was on one of those and he
gave me some of the you know, some of the
behind the curtain, you know, the stuff that's not true,
(30:59):
what is true, and that I just try to pretend
I never heard that and get entertained by that. But
but together, mostly you know, films and movies like good
big movies.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Gotcha, Yeah, the reality I learned that early on when
they first studio, they started doing those dating shows. What
was the early dating reality shows? God, I forget the
name of it, Like, oh well, I wasn't Roger lodge On.
Was it blind Dates?
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Blind Date?
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Yeah? Yeah, I saw. I used to have to drive
through Hollywood to get to work, and when I lived
in that part of town, and i'd drive through and
they'd always be filming stuff on Hollywood Boulevard. And I
say always, I saw you. A few times a month
they'd be filming stuff. And I remember I was driving
down and they were filming this couple crossing the street
(31:53):
and then I guess they didn't get the right shot
because they had to film them again crossing crossing. It
was really funny watching this whole thing. I was stuck.
I was stuck in gridlock traffic, so I was watching
the whole deal and it was the same exact shot
because I guess, you know, you gotta gotta get it done, man,
you gotta multiple shots, multiple angles. I don't know what
(32:13):
that was all about.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
But and they had that show Cheaters.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Oh yeah, remember that that was quality and entertainment too.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
And then it wasn't dating but the newly game that
was pretty entertaining. They would get some some people in
trouble with some of those answers.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
The old school yeah, Hollywood stars, the dating uh yeah,
they were they were all good. Lucky Tony writes in
from the Bay Area. He says, ben ead Dog's back,
f yeah, and here's why he should get two golden tickets. Firstly,
when I tried to give Dog my ticket, Coop refused
(32:50):
and made me go on the air and do it.
And after you told Dog, I bet Coop never told
him how they work. Secondly, I would only listen to
the podcast the hour I missed from lunch or the
hour I called in. But when E Dog started calling,
I listened all four hours because I don't want to
miss his calls from Lucky Tony. It was very kind
(33:14):
of you to endorse Lucky Tony. E Dog and E
dog goes way back, as you know, with Joe Dogg.
They were young kids. They would call me up on
the weekends back in the old days, and it was
Joe Dogg and E Dog and they never wanted to
talk about sports, just like now that is. I will
I will let if he calls this week, I will
(33:35):
let e dog know that he is beloved by Lucky
Tony Leo from Chicago Rights Since says Ben, do you
think this guy is going to get street cred in jail?
And he sent me a story here, Leo? A guy
from Texas has been sentenced to forty five years in
prison because he stole legos a corent Yeah cross country
(33:58):
lego theft ring. The guy said he still he stole.
According to Leo, the story sent me two hundred lego
sets across the country three hundred thousand dollars in retail theft.
How about that? Two hundred lego sets for three hundred thousand?
Is that right? Can that possibly be right?
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Am I going to school for the wrong thing? Am I?
Speaker 1 (34:23):
That's three hundred thousand for two? What what's the math
on that? Hold on, let me do some Let me
get my calculator out here, Jayscoop. I'm gonna see if
I can do some malor math. So three hundred thousand,
let's see, let's see here, and then divided by two
hundred and let's see here, that would be that would
(34:47):
be fifty. There's no way like fifteen hundred dollars a
Lego set. There's no chance.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
No, yeah, I mean maybe if some famous celebrities somehow
add some connection to it.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Yeah, brune oh from Jersey, Right, since says Ben, do
you subscribe to mister Beast on YouTube? He just hit
five hundred million YouTube subscribers this week? No, I do
not subscribe to mister Beast. I've only seen mister Beast
when he pops up at NFL games and things like that.
I I don't really know anybody in my circle. I
(35:22):
guess I'm too old now that watches mister Beast.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
I'm in your circle.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Ben, Okay, do you watch mister Beast?
Speaker 3 (35:29):
I do, because guess what he does a competition?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
All right?
Speaker 4 (35:34):
That guy gives out money like like nothing. It's kind
of crazy. Like if you get anywhere near that guy,
it seems like you're gonna get at least one thousand
or ten thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
I don't know, that's crazy, all right? Yeah, Well, then
you're my only person I know that watches You're it.
It's that's it, Bruno. I just found my guy, Jayscoop,
and that's that's all. Greg from the Valley, that's the
Valley of the Sun, says Ben, Are you gonna go
get some of that delicious garlic sauce from Papa John's
because Papa John's is now selling their famous garlic dipping
(36:06):
sauce in grocery stores. Greg, I'm not planning on going
out to buy garlic sauce from Papa John's. That's that's
not happening. I can make my own garlic. It's real,
real simple to make garlic sauce, Jay Scoop. You just
put like, got half a stick of butter in there
(36:27):
and some some garlic powder, and you can put real
garlic in there if you want, And within like five
minutes you got some garlic, you know, garlic dipping sauce.
Put some pepper in there if you want, not yourself,
or you just got to have a guy, and you're
my guy for the gar I'm yours for mister beasts
your mind for the garlic sauce. That's right, all right,
(36:49):
Well, we got a bunch more, but that's all we have
time for. As you know, podcasts is supposed to be
about thirty minutes. We've already gone over thirty minutes here, Jayscoop.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
But you've already lost their attention.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
I know, I know, it's all over.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
It's all over, Didget Spinnerdget Spinner has taken over.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
You didn't even get to the Jay who wanted to
know our thoughts on the There was a rumor at
the World Cup last week there was a Shakira body
double opening ceremonies.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
So I uh, okay, so what that means that the
hips are lying?
Speaker 1 (37:21):
On that note, I will be back tonight another week
of the Ben Mahler Show. Have a wonderful rest of
your Sunday, or if you're already later in the day,
Jay Scoop, you got anything you want to promote here,
Jay Scoop, anything at all.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
I'll just promote the Mallard Palooza.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Man, it's coming, and I'm telling you somebody is going
to bring it and they're going to win it and
it's not going to be me and just Josh.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
That's your tease, all right?
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Fair enough? On that note, we'll talk to you next time.
As Dick and Dayton would say, bye bye, bye bye,
