Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kaboobs boom.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
If you thought four hours a day, twelve hundred minutes
a week was enough, think again. He's the last remnants
of the old republic, a sole fashion of fairness. He
treats crackheads in the ghetto cutter the same as the
rich pill poppers in the penthouse. Wow to the clearinghouse
of hot takes, break free for something special. The Fifth
(00:23):
Hour with Ben Maller starts right now.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
In the air everywhere, The Fifth Hour with Me Ben Mallor.
It is Sunday, the sixteenth day of August, on this
early morning, and we are fired up. We're about to
crank up the mail Bag. And this is either going
to be the greatest edition ever of the mail Bag
(00:52):
or an OMG, what are we doing situation.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
We'll find out.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
But first, Ohio, al please, Ohio. I'll get me.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
In the mood.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
It's small band, all right, very good and by request.
A well decorated member of the Malad Militia, he has
(01:26):
been part of some of the iconic bits over the years.
Everyone loves the food Picks. They can't get enough of
the food Picks TV Picks. We now go to the
mean streets of Brooklyn, New York and we welcome in
the man, the myth, the legend, Marcel in Brooklyn.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Oh, thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Ben.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
It is so honored to be with you on your podcast.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
And I gotta tell you what, I'm all the dynasty.
All the other New England hitters, including Mike the Idiot,
con and Blair and Maine.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
There are the worst. There are definitely a terrible one.
So I'm the best. They are the worst. All right.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Now, for the record, I just want you to know
we did spin the hopper, the Mather Hopper, and your
name came up. Now, we did consider Marcel having a
three man broadcast booth, three man booth, although you're the
only one that got back to us. So we're doing
it with you, Marcella. And we're like, you're such a
(02:36):
big star, we don't need anyone else, right, You're you're
the talent, You're the rock star. Come on now.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Oh yes, it is definitely a star of yours truly,
and believe it or not, there Ben, I'm still a podcaster,
I'm a social media star, I'm a sports ambassador all
in my entire life.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
And you're very, very level headed.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
You don't like to brag about your celebrity, right, You
don't do that at all.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
I loved it being the breaking news on everything going
on around the world, including the entertainment industry a.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Lot of Marcel, how does it feel to have been
the only person in the history of radio to report
the Titanic as a breaking news story? Nobody else had that, Marcel,
you were the only one that had that.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
It was definitely a Titanic breaking news story. When I
was calling you on Fox Sports Radio, when I was
being launched it for you and call me sal and
becomes Marcel my name itself.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
You have, Marcel, my favorite drop when we were talking
about the Toronto Raptors and the NBA Finals and you
gave us your player of the game. And I still,
let me tell you something. When I'm having a bad day, Marcel,
I have a cheshire Cat smile from ear to ear.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
So let's get to the mailbag, though.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
First up is Kevin in Kansas, and he writes in
on the mail bag, he says, dear Ben, an honored guest.
With the school year starting, stores are running sales right now.
What do you remember buying for back to school back
in your day? New shoes, new clothes, new trapper keeper,
(04:25):
new lunch box. Yeah, so Kevin, I'll go first and
then Marcel will go. So when I was growing up,
it was always a big deal, always a big deal
to get the lunch box and the backpack. Like that
was where it was at. You get that lunch box
on that backpack, and it was very important. The key
thing was the backpack. You didn't want to have an
(04:47):
outdated backpack, and we had these epic backpacks back in
when I was a kid that had like superheroes and
cartoon characters, and it was like really important to have
that lunch The backpack was somewhat important. Then you wanted
to have like the right kind of pins and things
like that. So that was always a big deal in hindsight,
(05:08):
looking back on it. I also got a few pairs
of clothes, Kevin, I made a few outfits or whatever,
but it was mainly, I remember the backpack, and it
was like picking the right one.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
The lunch box.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
That was the most important thing because you couldn't go
online and just grab stuff. Now, what about you, Marcell,
any memories back in the day, a young Marcel growing
up there in Brooklyn, any kind of school stuff that
you remember getting for the new school year, Marcel.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
Well Ben, I had to say there because when I
was growing up my grandfa my grandpa gave me some
new clothes, new shoes, and of course new school stuff
there from kindergarten days to my.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
High school days.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
Now I've been retired as always to become a student.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
I will just learn for all part parts of this back.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
To school industry, from app to science and everything in between.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
But money is so tight right now. And of course
it's not just a it's always.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
Expensive, but it's definitely a cheaper side of the money
industry so far. But also when I was the high
school days, back from my middle school days from PS
three Cecy nine K here in Brooklyn to Automotive and
Westinghouse high schools, I have to say my new clothes,
(06:29):
my hair is my cutting hair is off from those
side of things, et cetera.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Yeah, blah blah. But it's also you.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Gotta be styling, Mars, so you got to be styling.
What was your high school mascot? What high school did
you go to? What was the name of the high school?
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Oh? Do I mention it?
Speaker 5 (06:45):
No mascots, But Automotive High School is the one and
the second George Westinghouse High School.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Both of them are part here in Brooklyn.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Oh, I know that you grew up in Brooklyn. But
they don't have a mascot like a dog or a
cat or anything like that.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
No, mask, absolutely not, really, absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
To me, Marcel. Every school has a mascot. When I
was in elementary school, we had a bicycle as our mascot.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
It was a bicycle.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Bicycles.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Huh oh yeah, look, how exciting. All right, well, thank you, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Next up is Javon in the Valley of the Sun,
and Javon writes in he says, hello, Ben and friend,
that would be Marcel in Brooklyn, a special appearance.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Here on the pod, and here it is.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
He says, you have made mention of the time you
were let go from Fox Sports Radio brought back six
months later. Can you talk about what initially went through
your mind when they let you go and what led
to them changing their mind to bring you back. That's
Javon in Phoenix. So I was laid off in January
(07:53):
of nine, Javon, that was the day that Barack Obama
was sworn in as the President of the United States
of America. And I remember the night before, we knew
we were getting whacked because we had gotten a message
that the New York Post had broken a story that
(08:15):
the company that I worked for was laying off a
bunch of employees.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
And then later on, about an hour later, I got.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
A text from one of my bosses saying there was
a mandatory meeting the following day. You put two and
two together, connect the dots, and today, yeah, you get
the You knew we were getting getting let go, and so,
like you know, it sucked. I did get a nice,
big fat check. I'd been at the company at that time,
I'd been there for nine years, and so they did
(08:45):
have to pay me a little bit of money to
go away. The problem was I like to work, and
the other problem is I didn't have another job. So
I ended up doing a bunch of fill in stuff.
I did a stint at WEEI in Boston, where actually
Marcel used to call me when I was on there.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
A second time I was on.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
WEI, but I didn't agree.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, I did the Boston thing.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I filled in Denver, Seattle, I got auditions in a
lot of places. I was actually close. I will not
say the name, but I was close to a gig
on the East Coast, and it was neck and neck,
and then I got a call back from Fox Sports
Radio saying, hey, we want you back, and and so
(09:31):
that was that was how that went down, back back
in the day. You ever been laid off, Marcell, You
can't be laid off. You're a legend, You're a self
made man. You can't be laid off from a gig. Right,
come on now you're Marcel and Brooklyn.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
Well, no laid off for me, but instead for my
duties of laying off, I have to say I had
to do nothing, but I have nowhere else to go
to a job in my life.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
But the truth is I will.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Definitely working from home covering this, what's going on on
my socials, playing games, et cetera.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Everything in my own half.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
It's my find out, Marsa. What's your favorite game, Marca?
What's your go to game when you're looking for something
to kill some time? What game do you play?
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Baseball?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Baseball?
Speaker 5 (10:20):
And the second one here from my hobbies, I have
basketball and I have football.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Well, nobody saw can you believe that you're listening that,
my man? Marcel? Baseball, basketball and football.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
It's unbelievable, and hockey is one of the hardest. But
I never stayed in my life that I will fell. Instead,
I'll go to get hurt.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Well said Marcel. Al from the Latrine writes in he says,
greetings Ben and special guest on this enshrinement weekend in Springfield.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Ben, we've all heard your.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Pandemic era tale of your not so nice walk in
the park and the struggle you had with the public breastroom.
That being said, Alf writes in have you ever gone
number one in someone else's house and missed the mark
on accident? That is from Alf the alien o Piners.
(11:16):
So yes, we all have days where the aim is
not right, and I do not like the pressure when
I'm at somebody else's house because there's a lot of
pressure to make sure you hit the bullseye, because if
you don't hit the bulls eye, then what I end
up doing is I'm having to try to clean up
the mess. Do you ever make a mess, Marcel, when
you're doing the number one at the ya?
Speaker 4 (11:38):
That's what the rocking house, right is messing it up?
Clean things up exactly?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Well, that well, said Marcel.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
But sometimes you know you shoot the patriot missile and
it doesn't hit where it's supposed to hit. You know,
it's close to the point, but not quite there. So yeah, Alf,
I've been there and had to take the toilet paper
clean up, make it seem like nothing happened, and that
(12:06):
that is absolutely taking place now. I remember when I
was a kid. I'm older than.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
You, Marcel.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
A lot of people when I was growing up, my
grandparents and aunts and uncles, they had carpeting in the
bathroom and hand the guy. Let me tell you something.
You're doing the number one. Okay, you missed that bowl,
or there is splatter on the side of the bowl. Okay,
there's no real good way to get that yellow mellow yellow.
(12:36):
You know what out of the carpet. You're cooked. You're
absolutely cooked. It's just a nightmare situation.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Fortunately these days and for thirty years now or forty years,
nobody's using carpet in the bathroom anymore. But I just
wanted to share that it is an issue. But you
have great aim, right, Marcel, you're a stud. Your mister
Brooklyn over there. You never missed that toilet, right, Marcel.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Absolutely not exactly.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Now, one of my cousins who lives in Phoenix has
his own urnal. How about that he had an ill
gross in his No, Marcel, that's amazing in his own
home a urinal that is that is VIP status, my man.
(13:25):
All right? Next next up outback John and Joanna in
the San Gabriel Valley of southern California, Marcel and Brooklyn,
you know where the San Gabriel Valley is.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
The San Gabriel Valley is located in California, the Golden
Great State of the West.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
You are such a big stud You are amazing.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
And by the way, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland,
San Jose, Chico, wedding every city and county there in
the state of its own.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Well, said Mars.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
So.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Well, anyway, out back John and Joanna big fans of
the show, and they say, hey, big Ben and special guest.
We were flipping channels and came across the Little League
World Series game earlier this week between Nevada and Montana.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
It was the last thing or last enning round, last
inning and Nevada was up by seven runs when there
was a close play at third base that they went
to review for the camera watched twelve year olds playing
around for minutes waiting for the verdict. What are your
(14:39):
feelings about reviews? And how long until we see a
twelve year old tap his helmet for an ABS review?
All right, so, first of all, I just can't get
into the Little League World Series.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I'm not it's not my thing.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I remember when I was a kid, the Little League
team from where I grew up, when I was like
around that age, they made it to the League World Series,
and the big deal, as I remember, the big deal
was that, well wait a minute, now, if you get
to the championship game, it gets broadcast on ABC, so
(15:17):
it was a big deal and I was like, all right,
and now every game is on ESPN.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
It's like, it's just craziness to me.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
As far as the replay, the way things are going
right now, absolutely we're going to have twelve year old
Poindexter being able to tap his helmet, and the replay
thing has gone too far.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Like everything, it started out with good intentions.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Let's get the obvious calls that are missed, let's correct
the obvious calls, and it's morphed. It's changed over the
years and now it's like every call has to be
perfect and I'm just not wired that way.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I'm wired mistakes are going to happen as long as
they're not intentional.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
I got a roll with the punches, and that's not
how the system is set up these days. Every call has.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
To be right.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
We are headed towards ABS in Little League and every
form of replay, and to me, you should have like
like the ABS.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Thing's pretty good, it's pretty quick. The replay you should.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Have like a one minute timer and if you need
more than a minute, the call stands. Whatever the call is,
it's got to be obvious, clear and obvious to overturn
the call. So give them a minute and that's it.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
Indeed it is there, Ben, just like Major League Baseball,
they have the ABS challenges with the two minute or
even one minute clock taking place before the games taking
place here from around the league, I do agree with
the little leagues and the twelve year old is going
to be absolutely all things crazy might be going on,
(16:58):
but next time, as a matter of fact, instead of
Major League Baseball, but the little leagues they have the
ABS challenge. They have one minute or thirty minutes before
the batter's taking place before the next one, and et cetera.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
Is that that I have to say, those little leaguers
are definitely on fire instead.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
So next time the ABS clock taking place there for
all games for baseball and softball, they have that too.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Well that's see, that's the magic of Marcel in Brooklyn.
Just just absolutely amazing, just absolutely amazing. That's the kind
of commentary. That's why people tune in here. Marcel.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Absolutely, that's my job, including yours.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Yeah, I'm not your job for us. Robbie, the Mariner
fans very concerned you're gonna take his gig here as
the number one fill in guy for the Fifth Hour podcast. Bury.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Oh, that will be next episode for you.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Very from South Carolina, right so, and he says, yoh, Benny,
I am so excited.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
I don't even have a question for you this week.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Why because this is the last weekend I will be
spending in South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I am on my way out of here and on
my way to Tennessee, free at last, Free at last.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Greetings on the volunteer state home up Nashville, Music City, USA.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Congratulations Barry. For those that don't know Marcel, you're included
in this.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
So Barry.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
I met Barry in Charleston, South Carolina at a Mallard
meet and greet, which he was a big part of
setting up. Without him, that event would not have happened.
And Barry's a good dude, good man. He was in
a tough spot there, did not like where he was
living in South Carolina, and just a nightmare situation. He's
been trying to get rid of the place he was in,
(18:51):
trying to relocate, and now he's got that done. Any
piece of advice you have, Marcel to Barry on moving
to Tennessee, I'm sure Barry's dying to hear your advice
to him as he changes his life. That's a big,
pretty big change, Marcel, Like you don't leave Brooklyn right
You've lived You're born and bred and raised in Brooklyn, and.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
You're yeah, absolutely after my parents adopted in nineteen ninety
two from Harlem and Manhattan to right here in Brooklyn
from nineteen ninety three all the way to present and
still born and raised here. I've was born in gravesand
you might know Coney Island, Oh is the part of it.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
It's home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
It's also home to the Nathan's Frank Furthers as well
the world famous hot dogs.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Joe just Nut there. It's a legend just like mine.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Well yeah, very similar. And you know a couple of
guys that made it big in Brooklyn, and Joey Chestnut's
been on this podcast multiple times, Marcell. We've had Joey
Chestnun on here a couple of times. Holy yeah, exactly
how many hot dogs? If I said I'm gonna put
ten minutes on the clock, Marcell, how many hot dogs
can Marcel in Brooklyn need in ten minutes?
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Ooh, I have to say seventy five?
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Wow, look you big stud. Unbelievable. All right, Well, good
luck Berry. I'm happy you were able to move. Don't
forget about us. I know you'll be living.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Yeah, thank you Barry for that amazing email there on
that good luck in the volunteer State. If you're in Nashville, Knoxville, Jackson,
or elsewhere, leave me a message there on my socials,
including Ben's too, So thank you for that.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Hwang from Ho Chi Min Vietnam rights in he says,
guaranteed human Big Ben. I'm not sure if Disneyland is
selling this, but Disney World is now serving a cinnamon
roll with orange cream cheese icing for six forty nine
at the Kringla Bakery Cafe OG Cafe in the Norway Pavilion.
(21:00):
Whatever that is, So, Frank says, have you seen this yet?
Or more importantly, have you actually tasted it? Speaking of
former regulars, I have to say I missed the calls
from the former Worst Caller of the Year nominee, credit
Card Gordon, originally calling from Ottawa and later from Waterloo
(21:25):
or London, Ontario. Whatever happened to Gordon from Quang he
rocketed to the top. Essentially, what happened is he rocketed
up and then came crashing down to Earth almost immediately,
kind of like those booster rockets if you've ever seen.
Back in the old days. He used to have these
space shuttles and the space shuttle will take off and
(21:47):
before it reaches the atmosphere, out of the atmosphere, it'll
drop the booster rockets into the ocean. And so really,
credit Card Gordon was the guy where the rocket, the
booster rocket, you go up and then come back down.
Now that was before Marcel and Brooklyn became a member
of the mal and Militia. Credit Card Gordon, Marcel, he
(22:10):
had my old producer Miranda Marino. He sent Miranda a
credit card in the mail, my producer, and she says,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Understand, why did this guy send me a credit card?
Speaker 1 (22:21):
And it turned out that Gordon, he was just called
Gordon at that time. He became credit card Gordon because
he wanted Miranda to buy him cartons of cigarettes and
send them back to Ontario because it was cheaper. I'm
still is cheaper to buy cigarettes in the United States
(22:41):
than in Canada, and so he was trying to circumvent
the Canadian taxes. And so that's that's how that went down.
That's how he became I got.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
To tell you the cigarettes are bad, so.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Kick the habits at bandit.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Look at you.
Speaker 5 (22:57):
No one using the cigarettes, no stud And by the way,
there bad My pops is having cigarettes. But on the
other hand, instead of the cigarettes, he having a mouthstroke.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Wow, okay, I look at you. You're full of information there, Marcel,
And I'm sure the boys are gonna look up everything
you say. We have fact checking, we have alf the Alien, Opineter,
Ferg Dog and Malar prop Guy. They are the three
amigos of fact checking. Do you feel jealous of the
celebrity that Ferg dog and Alf and malaprop guy have
(23:33):
gotten Marcel.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Why do I have the fact check that? And all
the three of them are chacked all right?
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Next up j T.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
The Wingman.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
This guy's a legend, Marcel and Brooklyn.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
JT.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
The Wingman writes in from a treadmill somewhere in the
Smoky mountains of Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
He says, as I.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Sit here on a very warm afternoon when my other
car won't start, it led me to thinking, where is
the word place that ben Ever broke down with the malamobile?
What was the issue? And did you have to get towed?
This is not a bad thing for me today, as
(24:11):
I keep a spare car at work for rainy days
if I ever, if I have.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
The Harley here.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
But car breakdowns are real and etc. Anyway, it reveals
us and not at the best of times. Had a
great national tele joke day. That's from JT. The Wingman
again in the Smoky mountains of Tennessee. And he is
happy that he caused me to run into a wall
(24:42):
to try to stop Moxie from pooping in the kitchen.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
So anyway, d.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Yes, Marcell, my dog likes to poop in the house.
My dog Moxie, so JT the Wingman. I did have
one famous breakdown. We were driving in central slash Northern California.
There's this famous spot called Big Sir. You ever heard
of Big Sir, Marcel, You ever heard of that?
Speaker 4 (25:07):
Big Sir?
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Huh no, no, no, no, you Big Big sur is.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Big Sir is the toe for cars and trucks.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
It's a mortal fat person.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
So Big Sir is in California, Cali, California, that's right,
And it is a place of unbelievable beauty. It's got
I mean, there's all kinds of amazing facts. You want
some fun facts, Marcell, would you like that?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Well, let's do it all right.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
The California Saga California nineteen seventy three, a single on
the Beach Boys album Holland, depicts the rugged wilderness in
the area of Big Sir, Big Sir, Big Sir. There's
a diverse amount of wildlife there. You've got sea otters, elephant, seals,
(26:01):
black bears, all of those animals there. What else? The
river Big Sir River Watershed is a habitat for mountain lions, deer, fox, coyotes,
non native wild boars.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Are all right, there.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
But wait, there's more. The Big Sir Mysterious Fog the
region famous for its dense, mystical fog that often rolls
in from the Pacific. The fog creates this wild atmosphere,
especially along the coastline, adding allure and mystery to Big Series.
(26:41):
So it was what happened here?
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Marcel and JT.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
The wing man. We were on a road trip, me
and the wife. We were on Highway one, which often
gets knocked out because of mud slides and.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Rock slides and all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
So we were driving and the car that we had,
we had stopped at a photo area to take pictures.
So we had stopped, we'd stopped the car and there's
beautiful cliffs and just amazing picturesque views, and so we
stopped at a place to take photos and then we
got back in the malamobile to turn the car on.
(27:16):
Didn't work. Car was dead, and the problem was we
were out of cell phone reception we were on.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
And it was starting to get dark, and we were porked.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
We were like, oh crap, because we didn't have the
stuff to spend the night there. We were just driving
through and the car broke down and it was like
Oh my god, what are we going to do? And
we were miles and miles away from any kind of
a gas station, any kind of a service station. Plus
it was the weekend at night, those places close, so
we're like, oh man, we are so cooked. We're so
(27:47):
cooked here, and we didn't know what to do. We
had no idea what to do. Anyway, what we ended
up doing is we did nothing because we had nothing
to do. So we were like, all right, So we
figured eventually someone would. We were by ourselves, eventually someone
would come and stop by, and we just asked them
for help, and we waited about forty minutes, as I remember,
and then we decided, let's just turn the car on.
(28:09):
The car started. We were there like forty minutes. The
car started. There was a problem with you the wiring
and the malamobile, and we were able to get that
thing started and we were barely able to make it
out of there without it dying again. We then stopped.
We went to the first repair shop we could go to.
We then stopped the car, went inside to talk to
(28:31):
the person that was there. They said, hey, we're closed
and we can't really do anything, but if you leave
it here, maybe we can do something. So we're like, well,
we don't really want to leave the car. We we thought,
well we'll just get back in and see if we
can drive. We'll take our chances. So we got back
in the car, tried to turn it on. Nothing, it
died again.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
We were coow.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Yeah, so car maintenance.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Is troubled and also is definitely expensive.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
But said that was the scurious But it was only
forty minutes. It turned out to be a false alarm.
Although the car was a lemon, you won't get a lemon.
We got a lemon.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
We got a highway one.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Big sir, Marcel, you gotta go out there sometime.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
I know you're a globe trekker.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Beautiful place, beautiful place. All right, let's hear we have
next up. Next up, we have multiple questions. Let me
see which one I want to pick? Eenie meany miny
mo pick a question by Let's see here what do
we have here? Which one should I pick?
Speaker 4 (29:30):
A B or C?
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Marcel? Which one should I pick? B oh B for Ben? Right?
All right, yes too, Jane writes in. He's a big
fan of your work, Marcel. He says, I know the
pe ones know you said you would endorse a gay
magazine for five hundred thousand dollars. So here's the scenario
(29:54):
I have for you the Fox Sports lords. The overlords
tell you the Ben Moua Show is going on hiatus
for an undetermined amount of time, but they give you
three choices. Under the following conditions. You cannot be negative
and yes you are going to have to boot lick ball,
wash and get your knee pads ready. But the pay
(30:18):
will be one million dollars for three hundred sixty five days.
You will have to produce a three hour podcast all
three hundred and sixty five days of the year. That's
two thousand, seven hundred and forty dollars every day for
three hundred and sixty five days.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
He says.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
Option one, you have to move to Philadelphia and cover
Lebron for the year and again produce only positive content
about Lebron. Number two you have to move to Minnesota
to cover Kyler Murray for the year with the same
conditions as above. And number three you have to move
(30:55):
to Houston, Shane says, and cover the assholes for a
year and same conditions as above. Which one are you choosing?
Speaker 4 (31:08):
All right?
Speaker 1 (31:09):
So we're gonna eliminate Houston right off the top. We'll
make this a fifty to fifty situation, Shane. So we're
not doing Houston, the cheating a holes want no part
of that.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
So then it becomes we don't say language on podcasting, radio, etc.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
That's right. Well, I'm gonna wash my mouth out with
soap and water, Marcel, thank you for that reminder. So
Minnesota and Philadelphia, those are the options.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
And I got my brother is over.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
In Wisconsin, which is not that far away from Minnesota.
And then I got another brother in New York, which
is like a ninety minute drive from Philadelphia. However, Lebron,
I'm gonna go Lebron. I just Kyler Murray. I want
no part of Kyler Murray. And he wouldn't give me
any attention. He'd just be playing video games like Lebron.
I'm down with Lebron. So I'm going Lebron. Which one
(31:55):
do you pick? Lebron too? You pick Lebron? Okay, very good?
Next up, Scott from Northern Kentucky. We got Marcel and
Brooklyn on the mailbag. Scott from Northern Kentucky. Right since
itys Ben and fellow Malard Militia member that would be Marcel. Hey, Ben,
as I am writing this, we currently are under tornado
warning with the sirens going off.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Still can't get used to that since movie here.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
He's from southern California where they don't have tornado warnings.
My wife and I just had family in town for
ten days, did a lot of driving, even went to
the BUCkies in Severville, Tennessee. Ben, what is your sweet
spot for length of visit with family? I love them dearly,
but after ten days we were ready for our home back. Yeah,
(32:43):
I like quick. I like two or three days. That's
about it.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Any more than that.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
It's a problem the old cliches about house gets now, Marcel.
I do know from your many phone calls to me
over the years we're buddies. Meet Where don't we friends?
Me and you Marcell were friends?
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Right? Yes? Absolutely, it's been a long time.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Yeah, I've been with you a long time. You've been
with me a long time. You've made a great support
of the show. We thank you for that. So I remember, Marcel,
you every once in a while on a holiday you
go down to New Jersey. Right, you go down to
New Jersey and do your thing down there. Right? Family?
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Absolutely, since my uncle Donom and se are married here,
but they move away from us into the Garden State,
including Lindon that's in Union County.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
I've never been there since they moved there.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
You do go on holidays, right you and and uncle
Dynamite hang out?
Speaker 4 (33:36):
Well? Yeah, absolutely, thanksgiving this right? Not go far away.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
I have to visit my great grandmother h Tt as
well and Kevin. They lived in five bushes since they
moved here from two thousand and three, including the blackout.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
Oh and of course for Christmas instead gifts with my
family including my cousins Demir and Davian.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
There are the best. Wow, that's a perfect for Look
at that.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
A little behind the curtain with Marcel Scott and from
Northern Kentucky says also, please never have blind Scott on
as a guest on the mailbag. I beg you, Scott says,
I'll even volunteer to do it. How about that me too?
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Blind Scott is a male not a female.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
But the truth is there, Ben, since I block him,
he definitely try to cheat on all my.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
X platform, including that it's a terrible one.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Scott says, No, this is Scott, Northern Kentucky's originally from
southern California says no one wants to hear me or
even know who I am, but I guarantee the militia
doesn't want any part of him on the podcast. There
you all right?
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Well, thank you, Scott.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Terrence from Parts Unknown rights and says Ben, Sometimes when
you are criticizing an athlete, I imagine them calling into
the show to defend themselves.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Has that ever happened to you or anyone in.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Your business, Yes, it has happened. There have been some
famous moments in sports radio where people have gone mono
almano to the host, my guy, Mike North, I think
it was Mike North in Chicago famously had a run
in with Ozzy Gien, who was a player for the
Chicago White Sox. These days, though, Terrence, most of this
(35:29):
is done on social media. I had a run in
with Deshaun Watson when he was playing coming out of
Colorado at Clemson. Also had a run in with Geno
Smith and Doma con Sue, the boy named Sue. So
I've had those are social media interactions. In the old days,
I had interactions with players who got upset with me,
(35:50):
and I'd go in the locker room and There's always
a rule when I was getting into the business. If
you're going to trash somebody on the radio, you have
to be accountable. You have to show up to the
locker room and let them see you if they have
a problem with you. So I did do that back
in the day. However, you know, these days it's mostly online.
It's mostly online. But I have had my run ins,
(36:11):
and if anybody has a problem with anything, I say,
feel free.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
You know, like Blake Snell, bro I ain't playing unless
I got mine.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Blake's that little weasel, Blake Snell. My god, Mike from
Wisconsin writes, and he says, Ben and whoever you're on with.
In China, there's an experimental Chinese bullet train that has
shattered the world record, accelerating from a standstill to four
hundred and ninety seven miles per hour in just five
point three seconds. Would you feel safe on a bullet
(36:41):
train going four hundred and ninety seven miles per hour?
Speaker 3 (36:44):
And the answer, Mike is hell.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
No, no, me neither.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Right, Come on, Marcel, if one thing goes wrong and
you're going five hundred miles an hour, forget about it.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
It's all over.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Turnout the last the parties over Leo d Rio from
Chicago Rights and he says, Ben, how could PBS not
have gotten their stuff backed up in multiple places? Now
this is about a lawsuit. PBS Public Broadcasting Systems has
sueded data Center.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
They lost access.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
To fifty a fifty terabyte archive with seventy years of
TV history and it's all apparently gone. From what this
story is. According to Leo from Chicago, it is mind blowing.
If that's the only place. I hadn't really gone deep
into the story. But I know, Marcel, you always have
(37:43):
your stuff backed up in more than one place when
you have your terabytes, right.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
And speaking of PBS there, Ben, did you know the
Corporation for Puppet Broadcasting they shut down last.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Year because.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
The Trump administration has banned Also the Department of Education
also bad.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
That's wow, they shut down.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
They cut that there's still PBS. They just cut the
the money, the taxpayer money that that's going to Lance
from LA Rights and he says, I would like to
talk to lawyer Mallor. And he says, there's a guy
from Starbucks or no, there's a guy. I guess this, okay,
check that let me start over Marcel. So, this guy
is an oil and gas executive who is suing Starbucks.
(38:28):
He claimed a wobbly table caused hot tea to spill
onto his genitals, leaving him with severe injuries. And so
Lance says lawyer Mallard, does he have a winnable case?
That is from Lance in La. So it's highly unlikely
(38:50):
he's going to win the case. This happened in San
Diego in twenty twenty four, And there's two things you
look for. Number one, was this on Starbucks obviously?
Speaker 3 (39:03):
Or was this user error?
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Right?
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Was this user error?
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Should the person have noticed the table was wobbly and
not put their drink down and alerted somebody at the
Starbucks to fix the table? Did the person do that?
That's the first thing you asked. The second thing you
ask is the injuries? How bad were they?
Speaker 5 (39:24):
Like?
Speaker 1 (39:24):
How bad were the injuries here? Now, there have been
examples of people in similar situations who have been able
to cash in massive amounts of money, right, massive amounts
of money. Now. Starbucks has denied the allegations. In its response,
the company argued that the guy may not have taken
appropriate steps to limit his injuries, including seeking timely or
(39:48):
recommended medical treatment.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
So they're claiming, you know.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
He screwed that up. Bad job by him. The lawsuit
the latest. There's multiple lawsuits here. Two customers recently sued
pop up for more than one point five million over
an alleged condom like object found in fried chicken? Marcel,
have you ever gotten a condom in your fried chicken?
Speaker 4 (40:10):
The answer is no, okay? I had.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
Popeyes is a family friendly restaurant store. They have chicken bets, gits,
et cetera.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
All right outback steakhouse hit with a one point five
million dollar lawsuit a woman claiming she slipped on mashed potatoes.
You ever slip on mashed potatoes?
Speaker 4 (40:31):
No answer is no, okay.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Eighty four year old Florida man sued waffle house after
alleging his window advertisements or it's in window advertisements distracted
him from a curb.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
So have you ever been distracted by window advertisements? Marcel?
Speaker 5 (40:51):
No, sir, Ree, doles are definitely unacceptable.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
All right, very good? What else do we have? See
page down? Derek from Honolulu writes in he says he's
originally from Phoenix. He lives in Hawaii now. He says
Ben can we get weed man to Hawaii for free housing?
And there's an island, the Island Life in Hawaii that
(41:20):
is offering to anyone free accommodations, free housing to anyone
who will help care for rescued pigs. Yes, the Pig
Sanctuary in Hawaii is recruiting new volunteers to come and
help them care for their rescued pigs. They will put
out they'll put you up in a cabin and on ground,
(41:43):
complete with electricity and Wi Fi.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Wi Fi and the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
And you have to commit to twenty hours a week
helping them for at least a few months. Marcel, would
you be cool being a pig farmer? Would you? Would
you help rescued pigs?
Speaker 5 (42:03):
I've never been a zoo in my life, but not
just in Hawaii. Oh, by the way, Derek, I'm so
sorry about Tropical Storm Laala hitting the Aloha state going
on right now, but please pray for the families, Please
pray for everyone knows who are been affected by this.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
Marcell terrifying.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
Whether I will buy you a ticket to Hawaii if
you want, you can fly there and then live at
the Pig Sanctuary. Does that sound good to you?
Speaker 4 (42:31):
Well?
Speaker 5 (42:31):
Absolutely count me in, all right, Rarek, yes, Norick, thank you.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Derek said he wanted to get weed Man. There, I say,
Marcel and weed Man free housing. Now you still got
to pay your bills, you still got to buy your
food and stuff that you're okay with that, right?
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Absolutely? And speaking of not just for we meant hippie.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
He definitely lost to the Benny Awards this year, but
this year, but next year.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
As a matter of fact, man, I will take it
right back, all right.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Well Parker from Vegas rites in and he says, ben,
I have fished my entire life. But even if you
haven't fished, how could someone not know what a piranha
is or looks like?
Speaker 3 (43:14):
And this is the story.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
An eight year old fisherman caught a piranha after the
dad thought it was a normal fish. The dad didn't realize, like,
wait a minute, here, that's not a normal fish. That
is a frickin' piranha. And this is this is a
guy named Mike, a Pennsylvania native, and they were out
fishing there and that's it.
Speaker 5 (43:39):
Now.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commissioned were roped in and
quickly confirmed that it was a piranha. Which is more
native to South America than Pennsylvania. So I guess you
don't expect to see a piranha there, but they found
a piranha.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
And I don't know much about fish either. I don't
like to taste of fish.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
I don't really eat neither.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Are you all air high five?
Speaker 1 (44:04):
Marcel?
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I'm giving you an air high five. We're teaming, Yes
it is.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
You.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Ever been fishing, Marcel.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
I've never been fishing in my life, but I was
tried to looking for the fish there with that.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
Tank.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Yes, understand, I understand completely. All right, what else do
we have?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Let's see page down.
Speaker 1 (44:27):
Well, Hudson from North Carolina rites in. He says, Ben,
why would police need to warn people to not go
aboard the viral ghost ship? This is a police in Tacoma,
Washington have warned people not to board the ghost ship
of cats. Forty furry feline creatures were rescued from the
(44:54):
cat boat and it's anchored off Owen Beach in Washing
So I guess, Marcel, this boat was just filled with cats.
And then obviously you know what cats do, Marcel, to
create more cats, They make cat whoopie, and they made
cat whoopie, and then that's what happened there.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
So yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
The only thing I would say, Hudson is it's likely
some YouTube people trying to go virals who are like,
oh man, I'll go on there, this will be great,
We'll go viral.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
That's the way to do it.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
Come on.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Bruno from New Jersey writes in on the mailbag with
Benny and Marcel in Brooklyn, the og the Gangster Marcel
and Brooklyn, Bruno from Jersey says. Bruno from Jersey says, Ben,
there was a teenager charged with a salt as he
(45:48):
was relentlessly hitting X his ex girlfriend with dodgeballs in
gym class. So this thirteen year old boyface is a
misdemeanor assault charge after relentlessly pelted his ex girlfriend with dodgeballs.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
She ended up in the hospital.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
And then Bruno says, is that really what happened? Or
is there more to the story? So Bruno, I have
no idea. How how the hell am I supposed to
know whether or not?
Speaker 4 (46:15):
Me neither, Bruno?
Speaker 5 (46:17):
What kind of that terrible on peril Ward's story is
taking place?
Speaker 4 (46:25):
Why do you do that?
Speaker 1 (46:26):
I will tell you though, Marcell when I was in
elementary school. I never had to worry about, you know,
taking a dodgeball to my ex girlfriend because I didn't
have an ex girlfriend. I didn't have a girlfriend. Now
you were a big ladies man, I've been told by
I think it was our friend uh in Boston the
Leprechaun who said the Leprecaun tells me that you are
(46:48):
an ultimate ladies man.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
You're rico save with the ladies?
Speaker 4 (46:51):
Is that all?
Speaker 6 (46:53):
Ben?
Speaker 4 (46:53):
Break it down there.
Speaker 5 (46:55):
First of all, one Mike did he idiot con doll
worst and he.
Speaker 4 (47:02):
Is my total enemy.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
And second he is definitely interrupting me onto your show
and onto your calls for saying those things about me.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
And the third one since I blocked him on my socials.
Consider this, no one could say this guy like Mike
the idiot con jot for him.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
Now, Sue's Dog, SU's Dog writes in he says, let
Marcel know when he's around the ladies. They all say, ooh,
la la Is that true, Marcel, when you're around the
ladies thingla la?
Speaker 4 (47:42):
It is? Really?
Speaker 1 (47:44):
You agree with that? Interesting way to go, Sue's Dog.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
I don't know where that came from.
Speaker 5 (47:48):
Thank you, Sustal you're kind of a real guy to me.
He is a total member of the Team Marcel campaign.
And you know why the team Marcel because win four
enemies like Mike in New Hampshire, Mike the idiot, con
Blair and Maine and blind Scott in Boston.
Speaker 4 (48:07):
They definitely interrupt my whole campaign.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
So just for this real campaign instead, it's gonna be mine,
not mayors.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
Just for the record, So you do not like Mike
in New Hampshire, but you're cool with Sue's dog. Is
that accurate?
Speaker 4 (48:20):
Yes, it is all right.
Speaker 5 (48:22):
Shane in des Moines is a total member of my campaign,
and that's what not least.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
Is it true that your group is called Marcel's men?
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Is that true? Marcel's Marstell's men.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
I put that also my Team Marcell campaign to make
my five time caller of the Year great again. That
will take him place.
Speaker 3 (48:43):
All right, very good, Let's see what else do we have.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
I'm going along here. This is a long podcast. We
do a couple more. Benny, it's Bart from Texts. No
Reggie by the way, this week, Where the hell are
you Reggie anyway? Benny, he says, it's Bart from Texas.
Do you think Troy Aikman will be okay, they over
the weekend, Marcel that the NFL will not allow Troy
Aikman to visit team facilities. He's on the same restrictions
(49:08):
that Tom Brady is under because he's working for the
Miami Dolphins. Yes, part, he'll be perfectly fine, Right, we agree, Marcel?
Speaker 3 (49:19):
Come on, all right, great.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
To Akerman, all right, we're gonna get out on that. Well,
one more, one more. This one's from a quick one
from Eric in Maine. He says, he listens in Maine.
Speaker 4 (49:31):
Is a total real member of my campaign. So shout
sat him know about that?
Speaker 1 (49:35):
Yeah, anyway, Eric says he's he listens at least three
nights every week. He says. Oreo is launched chicken and waffles,
banana pudding, and deep fried cookies. These are the new
oriole items because of a special fan vote. Of the three,
you can only have one and which one sounds most attractive?
(49:56):
Which one would you rather have? Marcel, Chicken and waffles,
banana putting, deep fried Oreo cookies.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
Deep fried oil cookies is the one? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (50:05):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (50:06):
All right? Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (50:07):
All right? Uh, well, they're all deep fried Oreo cookies.
But that you want that one. How about the I
Go Banana pudding. I would like to try the banana pudding.
I would like to try. All right, we'll get out, Marcell.
Promote yourself. How you have a morning show, Marcel in
the Morning. I've done that.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
I have the Mornings with Marcel and Friends on Tuesday
mornings on stream Yard.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
But it could be defunct.
Speaker 5 (50:30):
But my podcast called the Morning News Setlines on Sprinker
is definitely a live It will take place five days
a week. It's set for weekends on Sprinker, iHeartRadio, Spotify
or wherever day listen to my podcast and here's my model.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
You give me fifteen minutes. I'll give you the world.
I'll give you the headlines. I'll give you the sports.
I'll give you the show busy.
Speaker 5 (50:51):
You said about entertainment there, Ben, and that's without least
the business and technology all in one amazing podcast.
Speaker 3 (51:01):
You're amazing, Mars. So that was a that was a
wonderful promo.
Speaker 1 (51:04):
Now I told the last couple of times Robbie the
Mariner fans been on him and like, hey, Robbie, you
got he does a YouTube show with our friend in Australia.
And I was like, hey, Robbie promote the shows. Oh yeah,
do this thing on YouTube, but you sold it. That's
how you sell a show, Marcel, That's how you sell
