(00:28):
it pours any like that rains, it's like California falls apart.
Nobody knows how to drive. And I gotta say, coming
from the East Coast, this is as bad as it
ever gets, even for like New Jersey and New York.
So it's a bad and BLUs three day here in California.
(00:48):
The traffic was we know who feels zero sympathy for you.
It doesn't matter, anyone not in southern California, doesn't matter.
The infrastructure here in California is not made for this
type of radius. It's rain for two weeks, dra and
it's coming down right now. And here's why it matters.
I feel like my storage unit, which is being flooded
with rain right now because the roof isn't prepared for this.
(01:09):
I feel like it's gonna come crashing down on my
neighbor's living room. I'm serious, all of a a sudden, there's
gonna be a bunch of Yankee memorabilia and someone's uh
exactly kitchen, my don manning. The autographs, they're all ruined
because they're all being you know, rained on. Right now,
I have all this stuff in storage, all my memorabilia,
like you said, all my autographs, everything is the storage
is being rained on. And when it rains here, it's
(01:29):
like everything falls apart. Everything becomes problematic. There's car accidents,
and I have to be honest. I thought the ride
here again, because I was sort of on a crunch
to make it here on time, I thought it was
a little dangerous. You don't think so, No, not at all. Really.
I guess it's just me, man. I think it is
the best. That's the best, everybody. You're the best that
(01:50):
down playing everything out. You're the guy that's the problem, Davis,
You're the guy that's like hesitant McGhee on it. That's it. Now.
I'm like Willy McGee bron all Star. I'm anna All
Star with an ugly baseball card back from a don't
look like Willy Nigga, Fox Sports Radio, What's going on? Date?
We got a lot to get to today filling in Forgottlieb.
But first I gotta just let everyone know Discover let's
(02:11):
get this uh going. Real credit card questions require real people,
someone who understands your issues and works to resolve them
with you. That's why I Discover offers helpful US based
representative Discover exceptionally common sense. Now where do we go today?
We're gonna talk some Jimmy G's finger, We're gonna talk
Aaron Rodgers decisions, Boom, We're gonna talk. We gotta talk
(02:37):
some Madden, which we did this past weekend. It's like
we honored him before the documentary even aired, before the
world was honoring him. It was crazy, a crazy coinsid
dance and a huge, huge loss for everybody. Man. So
we gotta talk some about the sports world obviously showing
their respects with John Madden. And as you and I
were saying earlier today and off the air, what a
(03:00):
farewell to life. You watch a documentary highlighting how you're
the greatest guy in football history with your family and
then you know, sadly gone a couple of days later.
But I'm so happy he got to watch it. That
was the update today that he got to watch the
(03:21):
documentary and its entirety, how it came out, and you know,
as you said, he ended the documentary with, you know,
a funny, typical Madden type of phrase. It was something
along the lines if they asked him, what did you
realize watching your life back in this way? I realized what?
I what? I never realized such a madnessm but that
he had such an impact on so many people in
(03:42):
football through coaching, through broadcasting, through the game, and the
legacy lives on. So I definitely want to talk about that.
So Madden, Jimmy g Well, Kyle Seeger's in the news.
He retired, Aaron Rodgers. We have lots to get to
in our numbers eight seven, seven nine on Fox, eight seventh,
having ninety nine on Fox. It's a pleasure of being
in here. For Doug Gottlieb, we are Coveno and Rich
(04:05):
at Cobno and Rich we are Fox Sports. Yeah. I
want to get to the Madden thing for a second,
because there are things we all forget, right. I mean,
we talked about it the other day about how Joe
Montana was offered the video game. I couldn't do it.
Madden did it. That was part of his legacy. He
had a handshake deal with a Tari or something like that,
right Montana, Hey, it was it was meant for Madden.
(04:31):
Now there's things you forgot about John Madden, like the
beer commercials, Miller Lite, the you know, the tough acting,
to acted Ace hardware. You forget all the things that
he was so incorporated into our lives. Some one the
other day or Buddy Spots said what about little Giants?
And I'm like, oh my god, I forgot that, the
little speech you give the kids. Like, John Madden was
(04:51):
such a big part of everyone's life. So I think
it's cool to see everyone paying tribute to him on
social media. What was awesome about the documentary? All mad
and I finally got to watch it estray. It's available
now for streaming on ESPN Plus and Hulu and maybe Peacock.
I don't know. I'm so confused where things are, you know,
But I did finally watch it. And because I missed
(05:12):
it when it debuted on Fox, I think you and
I were working. No, it's Christmas Day, Well that was
opening presents. That's hard work, but dealing with with my kid.
Trust me, that's work I forgot. Obviously, I know how
charismatic the guy is, how lovable he was and still is.
What I did forget is how funny, naturally funny he was.
(05:36):
They were showing clips of when he hosted SNL and
it's almost as if he was Chris Farley before Chris Farley.
But he was such a natural, like he was so
great at it. And when you watch back at those
Miller like commercials, which I kind of forgot about, you
see how funny is he's breaking through the walls like
he's the kool Aid guy. You know, Miller LTTE was
a big thing. And when I watched a documentary something
(05:59):
else sounds you're minded of was. You know it's called
All Madden, but his All Madden team. We all remember
the All Madden Team. But what I didn't know is
really how much it meant to the players. You're being
You're being acknowledged by John Madden, a coach, a guy
who respects you for being hard nosed, and you hear
a lot of the players, you know, Lawrence Taylor especially,
(06:20):
who who says it made me a better player. I
wanted to live up to his expectations. I wanted to
play good, not only for me, but for him. When
you see what that meant for these players, you're like, man,
his impact is just it was just immense for everybody.
Now when you think of John Madden, you think of
(06:41):
all those things, Like I said, all Madden, the video game, boom,
tough acting, to acting for your athletes foot He had
some stories, and I know they highlighted a bunch of
these in the documentary. And we're gonna go to your
phone calls, your feedback, love it eight seven, seven, nine
nine on Fox can be on. Richard gottlieb Um, Danny
(07:03):
g I sent you that clip that I know is
in the documentary where John Madden is describing Troy Aikman's
facial hair. Remember, not only did he provide amazing color
commentary from such an every guy sort of standpoint, but
he was knowledgeable, right He was calling the game in
(07:23):
a way that everybody could understand. He wanted to teach
the game. But what makes these things stand out is
that he was the first to do stuff like this.
Of course, if you've never heard this, take a listen
to John Madden describing the weak facial hair of Troy Aikman.
It's kind of weak. We'll have that during the show.
We're still efforting that. Okay, well let me tell you.
(07:45):
I'll do it. Look at Troy facial hair now. Uh.
And there's another story where he talks about meeting up
with Steve Young before a game. But he's like, all right,
what did you call me? Hair with a pork chop?
And Steve Young is like, this guy's a character. It's
just everything about him. There's a funny Brett Farvest. I
don't want to spoil it, but he had this amazing
(08:06):
relationship with Brett Farve, and Brett Farve told him a
story about his uncle who had let's just say he
had a large another region. Is that the best way
you can put it, Okay, And instead of saying, oh man,
(08:28):
he just got sacked, he threw out the uncle's name
in the broadcast like he was that sort of colorful.
And you hear more about that in the documentary All Matt,
And again, I don't want to spoil it for anybody.
It was phenomenal and we did talk about him in death.
Go to Fox Sports Radio dot com to hear it.
It was last Sunday. I believe it's spurred a great
(08:50):
conversation about Actually it's not last Sunday, it was Christmas.
It was Christmas when we filled in for Gottlieb then
and we had a whole conversation about Madden, and it
spurred a whole old, old school video game conversation. So again,
that's on Fox Sports Radio dot com. But as we
go to your phone calls, UM, I think it's fair
to say, other than Bobby the brain Heenen in the eighties,
(09:12):
was John Madden the best color commentator? It was? It
was Madden, Bobby the Brain Heenen and Jesse Ventura. What
about guerillam On soon he was the announcer, he would
be like the pet Summer. All OK, fair enough? David
in West Virginia, you're out with comed On. Richard's up, David,
I love the show. Love when you guys still in
(09:33):
Thanks man, what's up? Hey? I just had a question. Um,
I will say, John Madden rest in peace. One of
the greats and so many different assets. Um, what do
you guys think could be done to kind of stop
the trend we're seeing with the players. They are very
(09:53):
notable for their respective teams that are sitting out these
ball games. Do you think there's anything that can be
done to um? Kind of seeing that out, Um, it's
becoming more and more of an issue. I think. You know,
when you look forward to the ball games, you look
forward to certain players, particularly for me as a Steeler fan,
really looking forward to watch Kenny Pickett Um not just
one example, but have you guys had any thoughts on
(10:14):
that I do? And it's uh, when they start you know,
not that I'm not gonna start paying him anytime soon,
but when is an incentive to play? Right? If I
told you, David, you're gonna start making millions of dollars
next year, don't get hurt from now until the draft?
Are you gonna want to voluntarily play one more game? Like?
I know in your heart of heart, You're like, I'm
(10:35):
a competitor, I'm an athlete, But would you would you
really want to? No? I totally understand, and that's why, UM,
I think. But with the TV market and the TV
deals that they have and that brings us so much
money as well, do you think that they're going to
come to a standstill with any kind of ratings or
that won't ever be affective. I think enough people will
(10:56):
watch where it's not a factor yet. However, I got
to put myself in the shoes of a college kid,
which would probably be way more stylish like Jordan's or
something than my throw on vans that I'm wearing. But
if I'm putting myself in the shoes of a college
kid that they know most college kids wearing crocs nowadays?
What happened to the days we used to make fun
(11:17):
of them? I think I would sit out the bowl
game too, wouldn't you? Well, I mean I agree with you.
I mean more incentive and you have, but you have
more integrity than I do. You're right about that, like
the guns, like pro integrity. I'm the guy that's like
if I'm getting drafted, If I'm getting drafted in six
months or a couple of months, I guess what I'm
(11:37):
not doing. I'm gonna live in a bubble until that day.
I'm gonna live. I'm gonna be bubble boy until the draft.
Get out of here? Bowl game? Am I getting anything? No?
Russell and Reno? What's up? Coven On Rich? Hello, I
appreciate you guys, show. Thanks man, Yeah, thank you. Yeah.
I just want to get a little shout out for
John Natty. Guy. Listen, patient stuff, Why am I already
(11:59):
is football man? Raised as a young kid when I
first started discovered football, was Madden and the Vikings playing
that Super Bowl and you know, way back in the
early seventies and was just one of the finest memories
I can remember of John Russell. You know what the
cool thing is? And I'm sure so many people have
made this point, but I'll make it one more time.
What the hell? Every generation has their own awesome memories
(12:19):
of John Madden, right, I mean, like, if you're roughly
thirties or forty ish, your childhood was if it's a
big game, it's pet summer on John Madden here. That
was your Hall of Famer chapters. In my opinion. You know,
if you have relatives that are, you know, fifty sixty
or so, they remember him as the cool young coach.
He was the youngest coach of the NFL. So and
(12:41):
and if you're a younger kid that if you're twenty
or thirty, you know him solely, probably because you heard
he was a legend. But the biggest video game that
sells hundreds of millions of copies, so the guy means
something different to everyone. Billions of dollars made from the
video game yep, yep for sure. So again to watch
that documentary too, So I appreciate it's definitely worth the
(13:01):
watch and your commentary from you know, so many NFL
legends and lots of cameos word up and by the lady,
Peyton Manning, Brett Farv, Lawrence Taylor. Uh. You know, everyone
he worked with, from cameraman, two producers, all had nothing
but great things to say about him, how he just
made everything so fun, even you know, commentary from his family,
(13:21):
his sons, his wife, his wife who said John Madden
just never failed at anything. She said she couldn't think
of one thing he failed at. You know, but imagine
my wife and my wife. My wife could make a
list right now what I'm saying, I got failures just
from this past week. Then my girlfriend to tell you about.
And you know, his wife was like, he never failed anything.
(13:42):
When you think about it, he really did give his
all as a coach, you know, retired at a young
age broadcasting. He didn't want to be a broadcaster, took
it on, became one of the best sixteen Emmy Awards.
Hall of fame broadcasting career, then the video game. It
goes on and on and by the way, if if,
since this is the endorse endorser, since this is the
(14:04):
weakest week of the year, in between Christmas and New Year's. Yeah,
it's the Uh. I'm gonna give you a little to
do and it's the peroneum of the hounda. I'm gonna
give you That's a nice way to say it. Huh.
I'm gonna give you, guys the to do list, what
to watch in the sports world and outside of the
sports world. Uh. And we'll take your phone call, so
Seth and Band and everyone on the phone's hang out.
We'll get to you guys next. Comin on rich In Forgottlieb.

in forgot leave. Cavino and Rich love the Danzig Nice
the weakest week of the year. But hey, it's Thursday, right,
it is Thursday, and your Christmas leftovers are bad? Don't
(15:33):
eat them Prime five days later. However, we have a
new rule, Covino and Rich. You could still watch some
holiday classics up until New Year's So if you haven't
seen Eight Bit Christmas yet, I highly recommend it. But
we're gonna talk about things you need to watch in
a few minutes. Everything at Covino and Rich. But give
(15:55):
us a call at eight seven seven on Fox going
over some of your favorite John Matten moments. I think
by now a lot of you have seen the documentary.
Well I don't know, man. I think a lot of
people are trying to figure out now, like right, where
do I watch it? Where can I see it? It's
it's we've all been impacted in one way, shape or form.
Fox Sports Radio, Cavino and Rich, let's go it back
(16:16):
on a Thursday and reminisce a little bit boom tough
fact into acting. Then the pitch Man. He was such
a great pitch man. John Madden talking about Troy Aikman's
beard might be my favorite thing. Danny G please play
that for everybody here. You noticed that Pat Troy Aikman
is trying to grow up beer and he just can't
do it. I mean, you know, the blonde haired guys,
(16:37):
a lot of them have trouble. But I can't even
I'm looking as close as I can and I can't
see any beard. But he's been that's a four day beer.
It's a passive it town. It's very very pass where
it is. Not here it is, but see I mean,
I mean he got a little in here and a
little up there, if anything here at all. Watch when
you take it off. He doesn't have anything going up
(16:58):
in there. Get time, and he just had his twenty
ninth birthday. I know, but I don't think he's doing
a very good I quit. I mean you know what
I mean, Like if you've been working on for for
like four days and that's all you get and they're
going gets tough. If it's top top just quit. Yeah,
good message. Well you can't just quit. Yes, your god,
that's what's That's what I'll saying. Or to go and
(17:20):
get top quick when it going gets tough. Quit a
legendary moment from John Madden. Let's go to your phone calls.
But first I gotta remind everybody, uh not okay to
drive Stone Coino. The truth is your reaction times are slower.
When you're high. You not only put yourself in danger,
but everyone around you. Stop kidding yourself. If you've been
using marijuana in any form, don't get behind the wheel.
(17:40):
If you feel different, you drive different. Drive high. Get
a d Y paid for by NITZA. Now let's go
to Seth in Long Beach. What's up man Comino and Rich? Hey,
you guys, Dad mouthed earlier, and I'm not gonna stand
for that. I had all right, you know, well you
(18:01):
and me both. It's gonna make a comeback. And I
had a college buddy and every time we watched the
football game. He was from New Jersey, and he was
convinced that John Madden hated the Giants, and like we
couldn't watch the end without every five minutes going this
is BS. I hate this now I did hate gives
us no respect. It's awful, like he was convinced there
was a big conspiracy from John Madden and Pence the
(18:22):
past summer against his team. And now I have a question.
By the way, I haven't seen the documentary yet because
in my house, my wife, let's us watch the Real
House in New York on loop. Basically, Oh, do they
address the Quetz performance he had on The Simpsons, because
he was amazing on that one episode he did with
(18:42):
the Super Bowl. I'm curious did they address the Simpsons.
I don't think they are. I don't think that that
was terrible. By the way, one other thing, not that
I don't want to talk housewife. Earlier in the show,
you guys said the word nether region and I was
very offended. So I need another apologie. I apologize. I'm
(19:06):
not sure what happened there will happen again. Thank you, Seth.
Let's go to Ben in Miami. Hi, been Hey, I
just wanted to shout out John Madden and I'm only
twenty so I didn't. I'm not really around for his
come game days. But I just bought the game playing
right now using as Madden. I want to just mention.
(19:27):
I'm noticing the NBA it's becoming more and more of
a team reliant game. You watched the Lakers last night.
They had two or maybe three players and double figures,
and I'm really liking the way that teams are really
becoming reliant on everybody on the court and it's not
becoming a one person kind of thing. Yeah, you have
noticed that a lot. You have noticed that a lot.
(19:48):
I don't know if you heard cow heard before we
came in talking about Lakers fans. You can't expect Russ
to be something different. You got what you know. That's
what you You knew what you were getting with Russell
West exactly. Yeah, and you're seeing it now. But man,
the season so young and early still. But at the
same time, that's the conversation you have with women when
(20:09):
they try to change you. They think you're gonna change
and be something different. You're like, no, you knew who
I was. You know who I am. You knew who
I was when we signed up for this. You know
then you knew I was a lazy slug, So you're
never gonna change. Yeah, Russ who Russe is? Alright? Kevin
in Culver City what's up, keV, Hey, what's up? Fellas?
(20:32):
What's up? Man? Hey? Man? I just want to let
you know the whole crew, Danny g you guys are
like magic together. You know. I came up with Jim Rome,
you know, his whole um or his whole stick of
how he did his show interacting with the callers. I
think it's great and genius. What you guys do. I'm
telling you this is a daily show. You guys, keep
it up. Kevin, you better tell somebody, you better tell
all the people you know, spread the word on this
(20:55):
magic here. We love this show. We love the crew.
Spread that room or for sure magic. You know. John
Madden does touch on like, you know, the genius that
he was as a coach, and he talked about other
coaching genius genie. I I believe it's did he bring
up the genius he did? He with He said, look,
(21:17):
you know when it comes to sports, when it comes
to football, you know, he lived for football. He's like,
you're you're a gym teacher. You're you're basically a gym teacher.
You're you're just a coach. He's like, but when you
when you make a difference, when you win the way
he won your all of a sudden, A genius. I
don't think a lot of people are aware of the
winning percentage. He put it in his own job. But yeah,
he was a genius when it came to it. Um
(21:39):
with a remarkable life, remarkable career. And again if you
see the documentary, you are reminded of of the man,
the family man um, the bus right, the bus, the
Madden buss and things that you may forgot, like he
was a pitchman for Dr Pepper, Like I didn't remember that,
but it seemed like everything he touched turned to gold.
People brought into him because he was relatable. They trust him.
(22:00):
He was the everyman. We would do the beer commercials
tur duck, the turd duck, and no one knew about
a turn duck in a turkey and chicken, and he
talked about it in thousands and thousands thousands sold pretty wild,
but even a huge impact, like like you were saying,
like you were saying, Even in the beer commercials, he'd
be like, you know, like regular guys like you and me.
He was. He related to everybody. By the way, let's
(22:23):
go back to Kevin Culver City real quick. I hear
he wants to talk about Trey Lance, and you know
I can't resist forty nine our conversation Kevin go ahead,
definitely and Peter john Mann and simply put, he's the
face of the NFL. He's still the face of the NFL.
And he when you watch the game and steel like
you're watching it with one of your boys. He was
like America's best friend when it came to football watching
(22:45):
with Pat somehow so thoughts and prayers to the family
he was. He was, He's a goal and uh, you
know he's like that that could that face. He just
such a friendly guy. Get get him back to Trey Lance.
I think Kyle Shanahan, he's on the field him, he's
the best coach for Trade Lance, but off the field,
the worst coach for t Land just announced that this
(23:06):
is the guy. Jimmy's got a bad thumb. Look, clearly
he was doing something wrong in that Tennessee game. Would
you rather run a Jimmy Garoppolo out there with a
bad thumb or a healthy Trade Lance? Just give him
the keys already. The whole thing with the development of
the quarterback is you've got to support him. I remember
the Packers when they had a Hall of Famer Brent
pot They said, Aaron's our guy. It's time. Aaron's our guy.
(23:28):
Andy Reid with Mahomes. Mahomes is our guy. You gotta
support your quarterback. Enough is enough. You got Nick both Suck,
you got George Kiddo, Diebo, Samuel. You've got three pieces
to win a championship. You got There's a million guys.
This team is stacked. And again you can say that's
a Homer statement because I am a Niners fan. But Kevin,
(23:49):
I'm gonna get into this because I have a whole
theory on Jimmy G's thumb, selfish, self preservation. Is he
a team guy. We're gonna get to all of that.
Jimmy G will talk to Aaron Rodger is um and
before we get the trending in a few minutes, we
are going to talk about the must watch stuff because
this is that, you know, other than some Bowl games
and of course NFL Week seventeen coming up, this is
(24:12):
the time where you could actually binge watch or watch
some stuff. So we'll get to what you need to
check out. Um, but let's see what's trending. Rich In
Caveno good to hear from you guys. It's good to
finally see some of you in person. I haven't seen
you guys in a while, so it's good to finally
have you in studio. Brian Family getting the job. Did
you see my Onyx earrings? I'm wearing my earrings today?
(24:33):
Are warn't for a throwback Thursday? He looks like a
jersey gued I mean the guy like on earrings. It
it's a throwback Thursday Jersey short dress up day. I
was a big fan of the Uh the rap group
on SLAM. I hear you were a big fan of
Bubba Sparks as well. Yeah. So we've got some college
(24:55):
football going on right now, guys. And for anybody who
says that the Bull season is just some glory to
find exhibition game, I'd love to introduce you to the
Tennessee and Purdue football fans because they got a great
game here in the Music City Bowl, and both these
teams are playing hard, no question. It's about midway through
the first quarter at seven to seven, Cedric Tillman caught
a forty one yard touchdown catch from Hendon Hooker, the
(25:17):
Valls quarterback, and then Perdue responded with a seventy five
yards score from an eight and O'Connell throw downfield for
Brock Thompson. And in that play there were so many
misstackles it was unbelievable. But earlier in the day we
had the Duke's Mayo Bowl, and just as much as
rich and Covino were jealous of Shane Beamer and him
getting dowsed with all sorts of mayonnaise, which happens to
(25:40):
the winning coach. I mean, you guys were really wanting
to be a part of that. But Beamer and South
Carolina got the job done against North Carolina thirty eight
twenty one and Sam Howell, the Heels quarterback, was sacked
four times and his offense was one for ten on
third downs. Hey, Brian, is it weird that I saw
your search history and it was people covered in mayo? Right?
(26:03):
Is it? Is it weird that you're looking at my
search sister? What's weird? Hey? Right back at you, very weird.
Which is a man who does his research. He comes
prepared to every show. So there's also news about Andrew Witworth.
You guys know that the famed offensive linement for the Rams.
He's coming off the COVID list. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
(26:25):
is hinting that Monday will be his final home game.
He says all signs are pointing to that as his
career looks to be ending soon. Packers wide receiver Randall
Cobb coming back at practice today after that core muscle surgery.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson did not practice. Tyler Huntley, his backup,
was activated. As far as the NBA, David Edelman is
going to step in or is in line to step
(26:48):
in for Nuggets head coach Michael Malone out with COVID
night teen protocols and denver as a game later tonight
against the Warriors that is scheduled seventy or seventy. Six
Ers head coach knoc rivers he goes on the OVID list.
Dan Burke will be elevated in his spot as the
Sixers take on the nets. And then I'll leave you
with this guy's because I know you've been talking a
lot about John Madden. Week seventeen games, all NFL home
(27:12):
teams will set aside some time to have a moment
of silence for men before the playing of the national anthem,
and as they send it back to Richard Govino, you guys,
we all love Madden for how real he was, how
authentic he was. And I think too many broadcasters they
get into the business and they think they have to
be somebody else. People can see through that, but nobody
(27:32):
could see through Madden. He was just one jolly rock
of a human being. Yeah, I agreed, which is why
I'm glad you were on your mayonnaise schistry. Gotta be
honest with yourself. There was some quote I read where mayonnaise.
John Madden said that's the biggest word he knew, MAYA
word I know mayonnais Thank you, Bryan. And he also
(27:54):
mentioned Lamar Jackson, and in the documentary they feature Lamar Jackson.
Jim Gray says, there's so much high about the Madden
curse if you made it on the cover of Mad,
but it was really the Madden blessing. And you see
that when you when you see how much it meant
to guys like like like Pat Mahomes. You know, it
meant the world to me, you know, being on the
cover growing up playing Madden, it had huge impact on
(28:15):
just so impactful to all these young players. It just
really meant the world to all of them. You remind
me more of his brother. Um, so tomorrow at this
time we'll be watching Cincinnati Alabama and then Georgia Michigan
later on the day. So tomorrow I'm watching you know
what as we as we get into some Jimmy g
(28:37):
talk and we'll mention some Aaron Rodgers news. I do
want to know what's on your in between Christmas and
New Year's. The week year, the week, the weakest week,
the grassy Knoll of the year. Um, I'm gonna give
a couple of things to watch in between Christmas and
New Year's. No one shows up for work. Uh, no
(28:57):
one answers their emails. You can't get anybody to combine
and fix anything. Is that time of year when the
world falls in love? People are trying to decide because
they still eat left and no one gets off their couch.
I went to the gym. It was empty because everyone
has that. I'll start next week. It's the it's the
Grassy Knoll, I hear you. Um, the Madden documentary. Let's
just get that out of that up there right to
(29:19):
watch it. I'm all Madden and it's available for streaming
now Netflix. Don't look up. It makes fun of everyone. Yeah,
it's a it's a it's like idiocracy, for it makes
fun of both sides of the aisle. So if you
if you read like, oh it's a little political, yeah,
I think it makes fun of everyone in a great way.
So don't look up. That's uh Leo, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah
(29:41):
hill Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep. I mean it was pretty ridiculous, funny,
long movie though over two hours. The Jim Gaffigan stand up.
That's the thing, though, Richie, I keep going in and out,
Like I felt my phone at the Phantom vibrate. It's
like calling me because it had been hours since I
looked TikTok, Like my attention span is just not what
(30:02):
it used to be. You really gotta the Gafflegan Special,
which is like an hour solid. I like Jim Gaffigan,
And uh you said, Boba Fett. That's a good one.
Tonight at midnight Eastern Cobra Kai Season four starts. Terry
(30:22):
Silver mixed cameo. I'm so amped for this. I'm a
little behind, right, so I'm not gonna I'm not Dickey
Columbus here discovering it because people have been telling me,
telling me about this for years now. Last night I
started yellow Stone, and if you need to show to Binge,
I feel like everyone will endorse this yellow Everyone loves
yellow Stone. You know it's hard though, It's hard sometimes
(30:45):
to agree with your wife or significant other on what
to watch. So this might have to be a solo
mission for me to finally invest in yellow Stand. I
think the girlfriend's gonna want to watch Kevin Costner. Honestly
don't know. But that's why sometimes you never get to something,
and because you know she wants to watch The Bachelor
and you want to watch yellow Stone, you can't agree
(31:05):
on something well, and man, did watch some stuff and
they're like, why did you watch it without me? Don't
look up Gaffegan, Yellowstone, Boba Fett, Cobra Kai season four tomorrow.
There's a lot tomorrow, Cincinnati, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan. But what
I want to get to next is my dude, Jimmy
Garoppolo and his thumb thumbs up, Jimmy G. I want
(31:29):
your take on this everybody eight seven seven nine on Fox,
because as you know, Jimmy G didn't tell any teammates
to meta stump. He played the whole second half not
telling anybody. Okay, and in the press conference yesterday which
I watched like a nerd, him and Kyle Shadhan talking
(31:51):
to the press, it's it's redondant. You can say what
you watched. I think bard Um he made it scene
while I'm no excuses, team player type of guy. And
I'm like, is that a contradicting statement to hiding an
injury down the stretch of a season. Isn't that a
little more Jimmy g self preservation? There? There's different ways
(32:14):
to look at things now. Right, for example, you know
Michael Jordan's played the infamous flu game. Right if you
did that today, Oh, how selfish of you? Come in
to work spreading your germs? Stay at home. If Michael
Jordan did that today, you would say, hey, whoa, hey,
sit it out. We don't need something. You're not gonna
(32:37):
hear about the famous COVID game. No, you're not. He
played with the VID. Not gonna happen. And there's also
this expectation now of like, yeah, you gotta tell me
about your injury. I want to know about it. And
it's funny because I grew up it's probably better In Spanish.
My mom would always say, never let your left hand
know what your right hand is doing. You know, you
don't tell everybody everything in blabber all the time. So
(32:58):
maybe he's coming from the standpoint of like, hey, I
don't want people to know if other teams know, this
is not good This is not good information. Maybe he
didn't know how heard he was. I want to hear
your feedback. We're gonna go deep into the forty niners
and some Aaron Rodgers, some news around the NFL coming
up right here on Coveno rich In forgot leaven again,
(33:20):
Larie Mark, let me remind you guys a lot today. Uh,
it can happen easily. A few drinks become few, too many,
call for a ride. Now, what's the worst that could happen? Well,
you could get pulled over, you could lose your license,
you could total your car, you could kill someone, drive
sober or get pulled over, paid by paid for by NITZA.
You said hover? Did you say over? Over? Over? Pulled over?
(33:41):
Pulled over? Good one? Thanks more coven On rich next,
much like Anita Baker giving you the best dot com? Yes,
just like Anita Baker's We're the best around Caveto and
(34:02):
rich In forgot leave eight seven seven nine nine on Fox,
Fox Sports Radio, Rich, do you think it's okay to
drive stone? I don't. The truth is your reaction time
slow way down. When you're high, you not only put
yourself in danger, but everyone around you. Stop kidding yourself.
You've been using marijuana in any form. Don't get behind
the wheel. If you feel different, you drive different, Drive high,
(34:24):
Get a d U. I paid for fine knits again
at Covino and Riches where you can hit us up.
We're the best, according to the production baker in for
Doug Gottlieb Fox Sports Radio eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, I'm
excited speaking of karate kid. I'm stop slemding your hand
(34:45):
on the conto, fired, shaking my coffee, Fired up to
be here, fired up for Cobra kind tonight, lots to
get to. If you hadn't watched all Madden, you gotta
check that out, Boba Fette. If you like satire, if
you like Leo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, don't look up, and
we have lots to talk about Jimmy. We're actually talking
about Jimmy g right now. But I'm just thinking about
(35:07):
all the hassles and the hops. Right, we talked about
all these people with the VID nineteen. You know what
I gotta do. Everything is a hassle in a hop.
You know what I gotta do after this Riginald. On
a personal note, I gotta take my kid to get
a PCR test just to return to school on Monday
after the holiday break. Then get back to school. But
here's the thing. Yeah, she's got to get back to
(35:29):
school like Rodney Dangerfield, like Thornton Mellon, good one. But
she needs a PCR test. And get this here's the
like personal update, it's like a nationwide crisis. I just
called to make sure, like, hey, appointments still good. Know
what they said? They're like, yeah, but we can't guarantee
you a test. I'm like, well, and saying this to
a little kid, by the way, it's like tragic. She's like,
(35:51):
what do you mean? Am I not gonna be able
to go to school because they're running out of tests.
So they're running out of PCR test. So now I
frantically have to dry around l A to find a
place that may have one in the rain and get
it done by Monday when they go back to school boy.
So yeah, man, it's it's tough. It's crazy. You don't
have a tests and everybody's got the O macron. Uh
(36:14):
COVID sort of like online dating. Now, what do you
mean where in the beginning there was like sort of
like sham or weirdness involved in it. Now it's like, yeah,
if you do it or had it, like you're not
you don't feel weird about it. Like thinking about the
first couple of people you know they got COVID, You're like, man,
I got it. And now it's like most people you
know have got it. Uh, online dating. People used to
(36:36):
hide it. Oh where'd you meet? We threw a friend
at the bar or throwback Thursday and meeting you didn't
aughty things when no one was around. Oh you do
that too, Okay, thank god. Yeah I know what you mean.
It's just yeah, I get you. Hey, onto, Jimmy g
Jimmy Garoppolo. I ask you this. Selfless or selfish? That's
(36:58):
the question. Because when me Gee goes to the press
conference and says, hey, everybody, first of all, let me
smile because I'm so damn handsome man, look at these
pearly whites. Let me disarm everybody. If you have any
controversial questions, here's my smile. Let me disarm you. Jimmy
G absolutely had braces perfect. Yeah, I was gonna ask
(37:19):
him a hard hitting question, but he's so handsome. Now,
now step off a little bit. Jimmy G saying that
he didn't tell teammates or coaching staff that he hurt
his hand, his finger, he's thumb until after the game
and he's like, well, I'm a no excuse this type
of guy. Look at my smile again, by the way, um,
(37:40):
and I'm a winner. I'm not gonna make excuses. And yeah,
that that interception that sailed in the beginning of the
third quarter, bam, that was my thumb. So I wonder
selfless because he's playing through the pain and he wants
to win, or selfish because deep down inside the minute
he's out, it could be Trey Lance time for good. Now,
(38:04):
after watching the Madden documentary, you're reminded that if you
made the All Madden Team, you're a guy that played
through a little pain. You're a guy that played with
broken bones. It's a little thumb hurting. Maybe when you're
a quarterback at your thumb is you know ligaments since
you can't hear up he count to a football. Maybe
it's not his active Drew Brees if you remember last
(38:27):
year gripping. I don't think that severe is it. He
couldn't practice on Monday, Brecks on Tuesday or Wednesday. If
I were him, I do everything in my power to
be out there because you don't want to be Wally
Pipped or or should we say Drew bledst But but
here's the deal. The Wally Pip thing and these references
you make are surprises. There's no surprise for Trey Lance.
(38:48):
He's the guy. No, he's the guy the future. That's
not a surprise at all. With Wally Pip and Bledsoe
and Brady it was a surprising like, oh my god,
the star went down. Oh they got Wally pipped or Blitzoe.
This is not the case because Jimmy G knows that
next year's probably Trey Lance. Anyway, THET nine might jump
(39:10):
start this whole Trey Lance experiment going into the playoffs.
There's no tape on Trey Lance. Really, there's no reports
on him. So if anything, could Trey Lance be like
a weird weapon going into the playoffs where no one
really knows much about him or is it just such
a rookie liability where it's like, you, dummies, why would
you go tray Lance into the playoffs? So I think
(39:33):
you can make it argue it's more that it's not
like he proved that he's the guy. Well, he hasn't
proved that yet. So I think to answer your original
question and we'll go to the phones eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox. I think the general public is
gonna perceive it as selfish, well in today's world if
you google. But I think it is selfless. He's playing,
he wants to be out there, and you know, for
(39:54):
all we know, he's just hoping that he gets better.
You don't know, you have you have a nailment, right,
You don't know if it's gonna go away the next day. Well,
if you google, it's probably feel a little something all
the time if you google, which, by the way, Brian
family googling people with mayonnaise. Let me close this. If
you google Jimmy Garoppolo, everything from Sports Illustrated to Fox,
the A p Y, everything is saying Jimmy G. I
(40:14):
hurt Jimmy G. Is that the best option for the
forty niners? Or is it to throw Trey Lance in
there first? A bad run defense in Houston. If Trey
Lance gets a chance, it might be over for Jimmy g.
We'll take your phone calls and feedback. Next can be
an all rich In for Doug Gottliep Fox Sports Radio.
