should be If you're just listening to the show, and
we're not always on in Los Angeles, but welcome into
AM five seventy in LA, home of the Doyers and
of course, uh home of the Clippers as well. I
(00:48):
just look, I wanted to give you kind of the
real world reaction to the Brownie James thing, which is
it's no one in basketball, No one in basketball uh
thinks this is a good idea. It's just not. Man.
It's just that, like again, you can take one thing here,
(01:10):
one thing there and go yeah, okay, that makes sense.
And why not? Right, right? And what happens is I
love this defense, and Adam Ouslin offered this defense. And
I've heard people on television, well, they've had nepotism here,
and it's occrued here. Here's again, here's a flawed thing.
(01:31):
I've heard plenty of Stephen A. Smith has said this, Well,
white people have had nepotism in the NBA. Okay, just
we don't. White people don't haven't corner the market on
nepotism there, we haven't. And again, and here's the problem
with really really inauthentic okay stats in debates. And this
(01:53):
goes across politics as well. It's like, look, Dwayne Wade
bought a Glee League team, right. He supposedly bought into
the Utah Jazz. Really he just bought the G League team.
And I think he bought a very like a one
percent or fraction of the Jets. But he bought a
G League team so his son would play in the
G League, hoping his son could earn his way to
(02:16):
the NBA. His son never played in college. Son's not
even playing basketball now. The G League team was completely
non competitive when his son was on them, because he's
not good it can't help him win. He's not actually
good enough. You can't hide this is there's four hundred
and fifty NBA players. The guys in the G League
are better than any college players. You're going to find
(02:37):
all of them, and they are absolute assassins. You know
why because they will cut anybody's throat to get into
the actual NBA. So please stop with the nepotism. White
people have cornered the market on nepotism. Like, first of all,
if you're against nepotism, you're against nepotism. You can't go like,
(03:00):
well it's been good for white like, no, it's it's
j R. Smith's brother was in the G League with
the Knicks for a long time. Try to get him
on the Knicks, right, that was go back then. Obviously,
the antenna kumpos, we're kind of sort of the laughingstock
of the NBA. You put one of them in at
(03:22):
the end of the game, like my god, like one
would think first ballot, Hall of Famer, MVP, they would
be able to have some sense of being able to
play basketball. So please stop with the And I'm also
not a nepotism is always bad again, it's if you're
good enough, you're prepared enough, if you've done enough for
the job, then all by all means you can elevate.
(03:47):
You know, there's something different when you grow up and
your dad's a pro, you learn how to train with
the procesf you look at Steph Curry, right, if you
learn what it's like to train to be a professional athlete,
if you learn if you grew up in the finance world,
and that's all you've been about, all you've been a
part of your entire life, and then your dad brings
(04:09):
you in and elevates you kind of quickly. The same
thing with any sort of family business. Again, it doesn't
mean that you're going to be a boss or a
leader of a company that's as good or better than
your mother or father that started it. Hey, But it
also doesn't mean you won't be just because you grew
(04:29):
up in the family business. I just I don't believe
in absolutes. I don't. It's always interesting me that many
people who who rightfully decry stereotypes is awful, like you,
stereotype people who grew up in a family business and
(04:51):
take over a family business as only getting that job
because they're the owner's kids. Sometimes they do so in
and of its If you say, hey, the Lakers acquire
Bronnie James, I don't hate it. I'm not like, I
don't think he's close to being ready. I think the
smarter play would have been for him to play for Duquane,
(05:12):
where one of Lebron's high school teammates and best friends
has just become a Division one head coach. He needs
to play, he needs to learn to be more of
an alpha. He needs to learn to take more shots,
you know, to take on. He needs to move his
way from on the bottom of the scatteringport towards the
top of the scattering port in college before trying to
do the same thing in the NBA. And if Lebron thinks, hey,
(05:34):
the better development processes in the G League, that's fine.
You could make that argument. I actually don't agree with it.
I think you need to be a star at your level.
And here's the problem. I actually watched Bronnie play in
high school. I've actually never bought into any of the
bsu'll see on recruiting rankings or whatever. And I've been
(05:57):
called a hater because I've always been honest since like,
I'm actually a Division one head men's coach, and if
Ronnie was on my team, I think I don't know
he would start. I don't know if he would be
my starting point guard. The answer is probably not. He
would probably have a shot. But I like, I have
a wing who's a better player than him. I have
(06:19):
a shooter who's a better shooter than him. I have
a couple other guys. I have a point a freshman
point guard who has played against him, and I think
he's a far better all around offensive player. I don't
think he's as good a defensive player, but I don't
think the drop offs that great. Just tell me. I'm
(06:39):
a Horizon League coach. I've had my team for three weeks.
I would guess Ronnie James would fight for a starting
spot on my team. If you want to take that
as you're a hater, you can. I'm just telling you
the reality to it. I saw him play in high school.
He was not a top ten player in high school league,
(07:02):
best league in the country, high school league. Okay, So
they decide to put in and of itself Bronny with
the Lakers organization. That doesn't bother me. Lebron leveraging his
free agency with it it's the reality of it. If you can,
if you have leverage, you can use it. But when
(07:23):
you factor in first time NBA coach who hasn't coached
before and who knows better about that than me, When
you factor in that, most people believe. Whether the Lakers
want to make you believe it, or JJ does, or
Lebron does, like, you're not hiring JJ Reddick to be
a head coach unless Lebron James champions it and blesses it.
(07:46):
We're not all idiots. You didn't draft his son unless
Lebron wanted to happen, So he didn't hire a head
coach unless because Lebron didn't respect. Didn't like how Darvenham
co He liked Darvin the guy fine. Darvin was not
a prep guy, late to his own meetings, not an
(08:06):
X and O guy just to hey, let's go out
and play hard and then go play harder, which is fine,
just doesn't work for Lebron. Like Lebron is an over
prep guy. He wants to know everything every other team does,
and he wants to have a plan for how to
attack it and then a secondary plan. You know, people
didn't like Frank. He liked Frank Why because Frank's grew
(08:27):
up in the video room. It's kind of a nerd
over prep guy that fits there. But you hire a
first time head coach has never coached before. Your team
now is brushing up on the second apron, or actually
over the second apron, which really limits what you can do.
(08:47):
Because you've signed Bronni James to a four year, guaranteed contract,
which hasn't been done before, not the fifty fifth pick.
And Lebron who said he was going to take some
sort of you know, discount if you signed the right guys. Yeah,
he'd take anywhere disc and he took the max. Your
(09:07):
best players are the oft injured Anthony Davis, who's the star,
the forty year old Lebron James. And the only player
of value is in terms of trade value, really is
Austin Reeves, who if you want to get something good,
you're gonna have to send him packing. You've got a
point guard who for the last two years has shown
he's not good enough at the top level of the
(09:29):
NBA in Jangelo Russell, and all you're doing is running
that one back, and meanwhile you're fighting for Bronni to
be on the roster. And if Lebron is that responsible
for JJ getting the job. And again, part of getting
(09:49):
that job and making it work is you have to
You can't hire somebody that Lebron isn't in on, because
if Lebron shuts down on you, you're done. But what
we've seen from Lebron on his Twitter handle, on his
reactions on his beliefs is he thinks Bronnie's an NBA player.
(10:10):
Now take his own words for it. Then you hear
JJ say this at the press conference.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Rob and I did not give Bronnie anything. Bronnie has
earned this. Bronnie talks about his hard work. Bronnie has
earned this through hard work. And for us prioritizing player development,
we view Bronnie as like case study one because his
base level of feel, athleticism, point of attack, defender, shooting, passing,
(10:44):
there's a lot to like about his game, and as
we sort of build out our player development program holistically,
he's going to have a great opportunity to become an
excellent NBA player.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
So again, I'll translate the word salad. There a lot
of basketball terms. Okay, we think he can do it all.
Here's the thing JJ, I've watched Brownie play and if
he in fact can do it all, no one's ever
actually seen it. No one's actually ever seen it. There
(11:18):
have been instances. Yes, he can jump, that's actually not
overall athleticism. Latterly, he's just okay, he's smallish, he's not
a point guard. He's not real and by the way,
like people are like, well, his defense, Okay, when you're
six one and a half in the NBA, okay, it
(11:38):
means and you're not a point guard. But eve, if
you are, you're having to guard the best players on earth,
right and if you aren't initially checking them, trust me,
you will match up with them because most teams switch
one through you switch one through four, they're gonna find you.
And when you say a prospect who's not hasn't shown,
(12:00):
even in high school the ability to dominate a game
offensively at any statistical category, you should see his defense.
It's like saying, hey, I want you to go out
with this girl. She's got a great personality. That's what
it is. It doesn't mean defense isn't important. It is
really important. You're never going to get onto a basketball
floor if you're anything other than a superstar. If you
(12:21):
can't guard anybody in high school and college in the pros.
But telling us that he's earned it, that's like me
saying I earned my position as head coach of Wisconsin
Green Bay. I know I didn't earn anything. I have
to earn people's respect based upon how I run a program,
how my team plays, and hopefully how many games we win.
(12:43):
But I'm not so arrogant to ever let somebody say, like,
you know what, he's earned this because he spent twenty
one years in the media and his dad was a coach,
and he coached AAU, and he coached in TBT, and
he coached overseas. Like that's not really earning it. That's
I'm not an idiot. But all we're doing, ok, all
you're doing, and JJ's what he's trying to say is like, hey,
we're going to develop him. We're gonna develop him, We're
(13:05):
gonna develop If you're going to develop him, send him
to the G League. That's what that league is for.
If you're in the NBA, you're just doing workouts, you're
not doing practice. And I get it, Like Lebron really
believes you can develop him through these workouts. He's done
these workouts his whole life. How has that developmental process
(13:28):
helped the other part too? It is and this is
like comical. I'm not like it. No one's holding against
him the fact that he had a heart attack a
year ago. Is it amazing that he's come back from
it and now he's able to play in the NBA. Yes,
of course, But there's been plenty of other players that
have suffered cardiac or there's been all the players suffered
(13:50):
cardiac arrest. They're all on the do not draft list.
Nobody wants that, let alone get Hi a four year
guaranteed contract. Like what I mean, just all of this
is just bowing to the whims of Lebron. And we
(14:11):
had Adam Oslin on last hour and I thought he
said something which is completely true. Where you know, for
a long time Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Gelino's
didn't view Lebron as a Laker. They still don't. Lebron
plays for the Lakers. He's not a Laker. It's a
(14:34):
Kobe Bryant town. Why because no matter what you think
of Kobe Bryant. Because I'll just be honest, there was
a lot of times in Kobe's NBA career, I didn't
like him as a player. I thought he was selfish,
he was arrogant. Remember, there was a bunch of different
stages to Kobe. There was early Kobe was trying to
prove himself, who walked and talked like Michael Jordan. Then
(14:54):
there was the Kobe trying to pretend that he was
hood okay. Then there was then there was the defiant
Kobe with Shaq when that thing went bad, right, and
then you know, the last really right around warning towards Achilles.
And after that he became just this incredibly well rounded
(15:15):
individual that everyboy's like, dude, that guy's awesome. He completely
gets it. And a lot of that is the evolution
of all of us as men, Like we all kind
of grow up from at some point we have some
sort of arrogance search for who we are, and then
we finally figured out. You get to your thirties and
your forties and you have kids, and you're like, I
was such a you know what back then. So that's
(15:37):
what Kobe went through. But Kobe didn't want anybody to
hand out anything. Definitely didn't want anybody to give give
a sibling one of his kids a guaranteed contract. I
mean I just nothing could be further from how people
(15:59):
view and again it's a romantic view because he tragically
passed in a helicopter accident. We don't know, you know,
what he would be like now, what his level of
investment in Lebron would be like. Now, Kobe handled it
really well, you know, even the night before when you know,
Lebron called Kobe like, he handled it really really well.
(16:21):
So maybe Kobe would be down with this plan because
of course he coached Gianna, his daughter, and he formed
that program. We were running a kind of a brother
program across the seventy three at the same time. Maybe
he would view it differently because he coached his daughter
and he won a great things from Gianna. But man,
(16:42):
I just for a town that loves Kobe Bryant, for
a town that has always been in love with Magic Johnson,
the Lebron James who had one great championship season in
the bubble and a bunch of other messes of seasons
(17:03):
at the end of it, to have the head coach
that he put in place to be the head coach
say yeah, he's totally earned it. How well, it's hard work.
Come on, man, what are we doing here? So the
other one hundred and fifty draft prospects that have accomplished
(17:23):
actually more on a basketball floor, who check a lot
more of the boxes, who are more ready to play,
and would take less money and would need a four
year guaranteed contract. They haven't worked hard. Come on, man, Like,
what are we talking about? I understand? Okay. JJ thinks
we can develop him. That's what he said that when
(17:44):
he talks about developmental program, we can develop him maybe,
But saying that he still has to develop would say
that he's not close to being ready now. Would also
point to a contry addiction in terms in that he's
earned it. How why would you say that? And the
(18:08):
only reason you would say that is and look, you
also had Ronnie himself saying I never thought about playing
with my dad, Like what what? Just you're just lying
to people's faces when they know it to be the truth.
If you just tell somebody the actual truth right away,
right to their face. Yeah, Like, look, his dad is
(18:29):
a great is one of the greatest players of all time.
And JJ has said, you think Lebron's the greatest player
of all time. We think his son is going to
develop into a smaller version of that he's not there yet.
We want to develop him. I don't think anybody would
sit there and go like, you know what, apple trees
make apples. Maybe he's maybe he's gonna be a late
(18:49):
bloomers basketball player. He hasn't got that opportunity. He had
the heart attackle Like, why can I get to that?
When you sit there and go like, I never thought
about playing with my dad when the when his dad
was saying it forever, When the agent says we're not
doing a two way contract, when the team gives him
a four year, guaranteed contract, Nobody gets that late in
the second round. Nobody gets that in the second round,
when the coach says he's earned it? Are you trying
(19:12):
to make us hate Lebron James? All Right? Coming up
next here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, I think it's really really fascinating how one
uh one, I don't know if you want to call
(19:35):
it sideshow has taken away or maybe challenged the ultimate
celebration of the fourth of July. What is it and
is it really a challenger? We'll get to that next.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Be sure to catch the live edition of the Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Hey, it's Ben, host of the Fifth Hour with Ben
Maller with me and a lot. Have you joined us
on our weekly auditory journey. You're asking what in God's
name is the Fifth Hour? I'll tell you it's a
spin off of it Ben Mathers Show, a cold hit
overnights on FSR. Why should you listen? Picture if you will,
a world where we chat with captains of industry in media,
sports and more every week explore some amazing facts about
(20:19):
human nature and more. Listen to The Fifth Hour with
Ben Maler or the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever
you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Stuck otta leave show. You're on Fox Sports Radio. What up?
And welcome in Hope. You're having a great, great day.
You know, for our entire lifetime, the fourth of July
has been celebrated with fireworks. As a matter of fact,
last night I was it is not even a humble brag.
This is the brag. So I live My house backs
up to Green Bay, which is part of Lake Michigan,
(20:47):
right and uh you know, so there's all you know,
even on third of July there's like a lot of
little fireworks displays and you can kind of see them.
I don't need the extra I thought, my. I thought my, sorry,
I thought my because I no, I didn't. This is
what it literally sounds like.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Actually that's pretty good, that's pretty Yeah, that's good.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
I didn't. I didn't need to help. We're not that
close to you can hear the cracker. I appreciate it,
Sam I saying, you're only trying to help. I love
playing drops, I know you do, and I enjoy drops.
In this particular case, I got it because I was
sitting out there.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
Going self made drops. That was very, very pressive.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
And and of course you're you're thinking to yourself what
everybody thinks. It's like, why can't they just do the
finale the whole time? You know, like five minutes were
just done. But I guess maybe you'd and then you
play starts and stripes forever then And indeed, okay, so
(22:04):
there's a new challenger though, Okay, a new challenger of
this whole thing, which is the drone Show. The drone Show.
And I gotta tell you I'm pro drone show. I'm
I'm yeah, I'm kind of ant. I like, like a
good fireworks to plays cool, but like it's a lot
(22:27):
and there's just not a lot of variants. Now, there
are some really really cool fireworks, don't get me wrong.
There's some things that they can do where they like
and then like thirty seconds later they turn into look
like they're worms. You're like, my, am I tripping on acid?
I'm I just I just had a high noon. Why
does it look like I'm tripping on acid? Watching some
Medusa type thing? Right, they know how to do there
(22:50):
has been advances in their technology. But let's be honest,
the drone show thing is way cooler, way cooler, and
it doesn't screw up every dog locally. Like my poor dog,
I want of My dog haves a sheepdoodle named Odell
Beckham junior. Junior. This is the worst day of his
(23:12):
life every year. I mean, look, actually the worst ones
are the guys that are fireworks, guys that shoot out
the fireworks all month of July. You know, because at
least for today you can find a safe place or
if you have family lives out the country, or there's
there's a room in the house that you can't hear
the fireworks, you can put the dog in there so
they don't freak out. Everybody knows today's a bad day
(23:34):
for dogs that are affected by fireworks. But when it's
you know, July thirteenth, and you're like, you think you're
in the clear, and then and the dogs start freaking
out again, it's kind of unfair of the animal anyway.
Point is, you don't have any of that with a
drone show. Like in our search for technological advances that
makes fireworks better, we found it. It's called drone chefs,
(23:56):
and they're better. You can discuss this at home. First,
Let's get the Monsi bloos with an update. Monsy.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
I'm with you, Doug.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
My dog, though, is weird. I have now he's gonna
be twelve this year if he makes it. He's a
three legged pitbull. It's been through a lot. He's always
enjoyed the fireworks, like he would sit outside and watch.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
It doesn't affect some dogs, yeah, like it.
Speaker 7 (24:20):
It's very weird.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Typically affects dogs and not old dogs.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Our old family dog was very affected by it, and
we had to put him in like the back room
and turn on the TV and wrap them up in
a blanket the whole thing. But are my current dog.
He just sits out there and now he's deaf, so
he really has no issues. He's super fid.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
He's gonna be watching them still, but he used to
watch them.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
I'm definitely watching an extra inning game right now on
my screen between the Red Sox and the Marlins. The
Red Sox have taken the lead. It's the top of
the twelfth inning. Red Sox are up five to four.
They are down to their final out, but they do
have a man on third base. The Cubs are beating
the Phillies nine to bottom of the eighth inning. Hap
has homered twice. Both of them were three run homers,
(25:03):
so his six rbi in the games so far. Again,
bottom of the eighth Inny and the Padres have extended
their lead over the Rangers three to one. Top of
the eighth inning and the games that have already finished.
The Nationals edged the Mets one zero thanks to a
pinch hit home run from Jesse Winker. The Cardinals edged
the Pirates three two to ten innings, while the Astros
defeated the Blue Jays five to three. The Guardians outscored
the White Sox eight four and the Reds beat the
(25:24):
Yankees in the Bronx eight four, but it was a
show for the people in attendance.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Six homers were hit.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
The Twins crushed the Tigers twelve to three and seven
innings due to weather. In the NBA, the Warriors have
agreed to a deal acquiring Buddy Healed via sign and
trade from the seventy six ers, who will get a
twenty thirty one Dallas second round pick. It is a
two year, guaranteed twenty one million dollar deal for Buddy Healed.
The raptors forty fifth overall pick Jamal Shd has agreed
(25:50):
to a three year, six point one million dollar rookie contract.
And like father, like Sun dug our very own LaVar
Arrington's son, LaVar Arrington, the I can't announce.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
That he's going to follow in his dad's footsteps. He's
going to go to Penn State.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
That's awesome.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
Thanks for that, Sam. Back to you, Doug, and.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Look again, like we've been talking about this, I don't
know if if LaVar's kid can play okay, but again
he's one of eighty five. You know, ain't like gonna
be handed anything at all. Le Bar was how good
was Levar's.
Speaker 7 (26:26):
A full cow?
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Is he a good fall?
Speaker 7 (26:33):
Yeah, I mean all American seven year NFL bet So.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Yeah, more than that. It's more than that, though, Monte,
I mean, like, I'm not I'm out in any way disrespect.
You're a little young to remember, like.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
I've heard of it. Though I've heard of it.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I'm just he was a takeover a game linebacker in
an era where you know you had you again it
used to be football teams used to be their running back,
was their franchise guy, and their their middle linebacker, and
LaVar was the humb Believe you know.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
That the character of Bobby Bouchet from The water Boys
based on LaVar. Really, LaVar got invited to the set
of the movie Shoot the water Boy, got to meet
Adam Sandler, and there's a scene where there's actually a
bunch of scenes where he does like the LeVar leap
over the offensive line and sacks the quarterback. So yeah,
Bobby Bouche is loosely based on LaVar. Rington I did
not know that.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
He was one hell of a foul player. Man, He
was a dude stug gott Liep show here on Fox
Sports Radio. So Sam, I know you agree on the
drone show above the fireworks show.
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Yeah, And another thing I'd add is that after you're
like past the age of maybe fourteen, you've seen you know,
fourteen or so fourth of July or however, men you
can remember I've seen this, You're like, oh, this is awesome,
this is fun. But it's almost more fun to get
your own fireworks from Missouri or wherever they sell, you know,
the personal fireworks, and do that play with those yourself,
be safe, of course, and then like the professional fireworks displays,
(28:00):
you're like, you know, you're like once have seen like
you know, ten to twenty of these, You're like, I'm good,
you know, And the technology can only go so far.
My idea is, I love the drones, the ideas, the concepts,
the technologies. Only can you keep getting more and more
complex and more impressive. And you can even mix a
little bit of fireworks in with the drone shows and
maybe some kind of soundtrack on a loudspeaker, so there's
(28:20):
a hybrid of things you can do. The drone shows, though,
when I saw like one that had been finally like
you know, past like the developmental stage, I was really impressed.
It looked like three d It was like, am I
what am I watching here? This is something I've never
seen before. So yeah, the drone show I think is
a good, good alternative, good option, and it might take over,
it might take over the fireworks show, but we shouldn't
(28:41):
get rid of fireworks completely. I think that the fireworks
show still has a place in American history, in the
America's heart, But drone show is a new age of
entertaining the masses.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Yeah, I look, I think ultimately, ultimately you're gonna have
the best of both worlds, right should be all one
or the other. But I do think that fireworks kind
of in other ends instances have become cliche. You know. Now,
fireworks are still great, like you hit a home run,
you can't have like a drone show, like all of
a sudden you press maybe you can all the sudden
you press the button, and there's the drone show to
(29:13):
celebrate the fireworks. But it's I mean to celebrate celebrate that.
But I don't know.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
There's something about the noise of fireworks too that I know.
It bothers like you can bother veterans, they can bother
dogs and animals, But there's something about like hearing those explosions,
and I think people still like they like that. They
like they like things blowing up, and drones don't blow
up unless they're being used for other means.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
I understand. I appreciate that you like things things blowing up.
It'll be interesting, though, like who's gonna be the first team?
And maybe it's already happened. I don't pay attention to it,
to enough of it that that advertised to say fourth
of July. I mean all these home games, all these
home games are sellouts, and one of the sell you know,
(29:57):
one of the reasons you have night games or afternoon
games is have we got have a fireworks show after
the game? You know, after the game. I do wonder
what's what's the cost of firework show versus cost of
drone show?
Speaker 6 (30:12):
Well, I know one thing. If you are a drone
a drone show business operator, a drone show owner of
that entertainment, you know, you probably you invest in these
drones and I'm sure they break or run into each
other and break down, but you know it's I would
think that in the long term drones would be cheaper.
I could be wrong, but that's just my hunch.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
I would think but I don't know. I don't know
how many you need. I don't know how expensive it is,
how hard they are to transport, like when you transform,
they transport in boxes? Or do they all fly in
same places? It as a drunk like they have.
Speaker 6 (30:47):
The monkeys from a Wizard of Oz, Like they're just
gonna fly from one state to.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
They're like, what is that? Oh, it's the drone show
they're flying in today.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
Is that a flock of birds?
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (30:54):
No, it's a drone drones. You're gonna turn on us
anytime now.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
It's a it's a it's a drone show. S Doug
Gottlieb Show. You're on Fox Sports Ready, welcome in Happy
fourth July to you. We do have a lot of
sports in fact to get to, including could we have
not one, but two Trouble Crown winners in baseball. We'll

to get to as many stories as we can at
(32:08):
the end of the show so you feel updated not
just on what's going on, but my opinion of them.
We call it the press, the press, monsy b. What
do you got?
Speaker 6 (32:17):
All right?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Well, why don't we start with today's tradition, since it's
fourth of July of the famous hot dog Eating Contest
Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, and we have a
new winner of the mustard belt ten.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Seconds to go.
Speaker 8 (32:31):
But I think Pat bert Letti's about to have a
coke kind of smile here at Nathan's Famous a personal
best for Pat Birdle Lennie out here in Corney Island.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Fifty eight hot dogs is what he had, Pat berto Letti,
this was the ESPN TV call, so he won his
mustard belt.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
The lady side, Mickey sud.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Oh when the woman's competition fifty one hot dogs, breaking
her record of forty eight set in twenty twenty.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
I don't think I could eat more than three.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Hot dogs in an hour, let alone ten minutes.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Yeah, I mean, I've been told the trick to it.
I still don't understand the trick to it.
Speaker 7 (33:21):
I know, and the trick to it?
Speaker 6 (33:23):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (33:23):
The water and like just keep Oh no, no, the
water is really what throws me off.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
You gotta put the bread in the water and then
rely not. You got to condense it.
Speaker 7 (33:31):
Absolutely. The sogginess of the bread sounds horrid.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
SI slide down your gillet easier. Oh yeah, yeah, I
got something real quick. If I eat more than like
two or three hot dogs, I get like the worst
stomach ache. Like hot dogs are obviously just like emulsified junk.
And even if they're all b francs, Like if I
eat like two or three four hot dogs, like I'm like,
I'm out, I got my Innern's come to a screeching halt.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
I can't.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
I could never. I could never do a hot dog
eating contest. Be audit to bow out after three.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
For sure, three in an hour, and I'm enjoying it
with a cocktail or something, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (34:06):
All right, let's move on to Wimbledon.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Here, Doug Andy Murray, who just had spinal surgery June
twenty second to remove assists, was really trying to play
in Wimbledon. You know, he's coming to the end of
his career and he is playing in the doubles turn
the double side of Wimbledon. There's a video. ESPN just
tweeted the crowd. You know, this is probably his swan song.
It's probably the end. Yeah, a standing ovation for ninety
(34:32):
seconds and he got it.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
He got teary eyed. Who wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
But it's just people, you know, cheering clapping for ninety seconds.
Like it's such a sweet moment, a way to go out,
you know, Like I got emotional and I'm not even
there and I could feel it just watching this clip.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Well obviously being British and winning, you know, winning Wimbledon
once and he was always it was always, you know,
a big thing, yes, and he's like who else was
good when the Big three was at their peak, you know,
kind of the I don't want to say pat Ewing.
Maybe he's more Dominique Quilk, I don't know, but it's
like we don't like pat Ewing was never an all
(35:10):
time great because Jordan won all the championships at the
Pistons whatever. The same thing here with Andy Murray. Great
tennis player, but you know he wasn't at that level.
Doesn't mean that he didn't have a great career.
Speaker 7 (35:22):
Yeah, but such a sweet moment.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
Just to wrap up on what's going on at Wimbledon,
Novak Djokovic is advancing Taylor Fritz, who is the thirteen seed,
is advancing, so is Ben Shelton, so is Francis Tioffo.
All Americans on the lady side already a big upset.
Jessica Pagoula, the number five seeds. She just lost today
her second round match in three sets. It's the highest
seed to lose to lose in the tournament thus far,
(35:46):
but number twelve seed Madison Keys she's advancing, and of
course world number one Yahtik she won her second round match.
Coco Goff is going to start her second round match tomorrow,
so she's also still in it. But that is a
wrap up on what's happening at Wimbledon. In the NBA,
the big story today was that Buddy Healed is now
headed to the Warriors via sign and trade with the
seventy six Ers.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
Uh you know, Healed Steph Curry.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Leaders for most three pointers made over the past five seasons,
but the Dallas Mavericks added Klay Thompson and their odds
in Vegas for winning next.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
Year did not move at all.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Do you think.
Speaker 7 (36:21):
Buddy Healed moves the Warriors?
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Yeah, I mean I think, look, there's he's not Clay
as defender, but he's an elite, elite shooter. And I
don't think they're done yet, right, What are they keeping
Andrew Wiggins? Are they gonna how much they gonna play kaminga? Obviously,
they have never figured out the five spots since Andrew
Boga got hurt. They really haven'ten able to figure figure
(36:47):
that one. Out. You know they've They've done it with
what's my guy's name for Milwaukee who played for UCLA.
What am I blanking? Anyway? Do I think the Warriors
are better? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I think they I think
they are better. Yeah. Do I think they're a championship team? No?
Speaker 6 (37:06):
No, no.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
I think Oklahoma City got better with their bench is
really good.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
And I think chet Holmgren is going to take another
step next year. Yep. I think Minnesota's really good. I
do wonder what they're sealing is. I thought the Mavericks
got better, But you know, you are running the risk
of injury. Kyrie's always you know, you think he can
always get hurt. He's gotten hurt so much in his career.
And they obviously overachieved the playoffs as opposed to the
regular season. But I mean LUCA is just getting better
(37:32):
and better. Oh yeah, and the West is tough. Boy.
We have mentioned Denver. Let's see what Denver does losing
KCP after losing you know, Bruce Brown last year, They're
not the same team.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
They were not at all, not at all. Also, in
the NBA, you know, we just got Ronnie James. You
talked about it a lot Jamal Shed, the forty fifth
overall pick for the Raptors. He's agreed to a three year,
six point one million dollar rookie contract.
Speaker 7 (37:56):
What are you expecting from Jamal Shed. You're a big
college basketball guy. I mean you're a.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Cos it's a stud man. All said's a stud.
Speaker 7 (38:02):
Yeah, so you're no surprise here.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Only surprise only because he got hurt. He got hurt
in the NCAA tournament. Otherwise probably a first round draft pick.
Jamal Shed is awesome. I don't know. I mean, I
think he can start. I don't know, like he's a
starter on a playoff caliber team. But you're a better
team for having Jamal Shed because he's he'll be a
backup point guard. He can really guard and get you
(38:26):
into what you want and and and he can he
can score enough to get The best thing he does
isn't score. But I love him. He's if he had
another year, you want to play for me? He can
do whatever he wants. But he's he's a stud all right.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Well, today for the July all baseball teams are playing,
but there is a possibility that we may see two
players win the triple Crown.
Speaker 7 (38:50):
I mean, Shoho Tani and.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Aaron Judge are literally leading in all the categories. Wouldn't
that be crazy? Would that just be like?
Speaker 7 (38:56):
Would that? Would that do anything for baseball?
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Look, I've said this, I think we'll talk about this
in the pod. How cool would be if you had
both of them hit the triple crown? They both should
be in the home run derby. Yeah, they should, you know,
they both should challenge for the home run record, which
Aaron Judge holds with the old the American record, he
holds the record. Yes, let's just be very clear about this.
There is nowhere else in sports where you get caught
using performance dancing drugs and you get to keep your record. Yeah,
(39:22):
Ben Johnson won one hundred meters dash. Everybody went crazy
at the Olympics. Then turns out he was on the Jews.
They took it away. Yet Barry Bonds is still the
home run Like, how does that work? Doesn't work for me,
It doesn't work anyway. And then we had Yankees Dodgers
in the World Series. Now we're onto something, but otherwise
is the triple Crown. We don't pay a ton of
attention to RBIs anymore. Just don't Yeah, batting average doesn't
(39:45):
matter as much. But when you're that level of dominance,
all right, we tip our cap to you.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
All right, all right, quick one here, Doug.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
There's a picture of Dak Prescott on vacation in Cabo
San Lucas. The picture was taken and posted on X yesterday.
He was wearing a walking boot. Apparently he's been worrying
it for a week, but the Cowboys said it's nothing major,
just a minor right foot spring.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
Do you believe that?
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 7 (40:13):
Nothing to worry about.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
Then he's not on crutches.
Speaker 7 (40:16):
No, it was not.
Speaker 6 (40:17):
It's in a waking.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
It's July. It's jily.
Speaker 7 (40:21):
Well, that's the press. You get out there and pressed.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
A couple things download the Doug Gallap Show podcast. You
shoul let's do on a daily basis, really like, I mean,
what else? Oh, don't blow your fingers off tonight. That's
a good one right again. That way, if you do so,
you can say, hey, Doug told me not to this.
Doug Goallleep show, Fox Sports Radio,
