Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Boom What Up America Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you live in direct from
the City of Angels, getting you ready for what should
be a great sports weekend. We will continue to be
the only national sports radio show that actually cares or
(00:21):
at least tries to wonder why more people don't care
about the Indians twenty two game winning streak. Twenty two
game winning streak, longest winning streak in the history of
modern baseball. It's amazing stuff. And of course I come
from behind when um m hm. Anyway, so look, uh
(00:45):
I got, I got so many things to tell you
about in sports. With this weekend, College football, which seems
like a whole home weekend, will of course give us
some sort of upset and change the landscape. That's generally
what happens. NFL football. We have a couple of spectacles.
Last weekend, we had good NFL games. This weekend we
have I think great NFL games. Rate Um, we have
(01:10):
Major League Baseball, we do have a potential change in
the NBA's draft lottery system, and we have Triple G
fighting Canelo Alvarez, which by all accounts is a better
fight than Mayweather. McGregor's not even close. It's too legitimate
boxers matching up in Vegas. It's gonna be awesome. And
(01:32):
yet it's this is the crazy thing. We're not really
discussing it at nauseum like we should, especially comparison to Mayweather,
which was not a fair or real fight in in reality.
But that's where we are. How bad was it for
the Bengals. They've already fired their offensive coordinate or fresh
(01:54):
off losing last night, they still have not have not
scored a touchdown in two games. The Bengals fired Ken
Ken's MPC following the O and to start, making it
the first time in the fifty year history of the
organization the coordinator has been fired during the season. It's
not even during the season after two games, not even
(02:14):
through the second weekend in the NFL. So taking his
place will be the quarterback coach Bill Laser. Laser I
can't help but thinking that maybe he'll use some liquid.
Maybe that's how they'll start to Maybe that's how they'll
(02:34):
start to score, right, just roll out some liquid hot magma,
liquid hot magma, whatever is needed. It's pretty obvious that
the Bengals have some issues at quarterback. Right, like anybody,
what is the Mike Tyson expression. Everyone's got a plan
until they get punched in the mouth. Right, Every quarterback
(02:56):
is good when you know, all these guys are pretty
good when they got a clean pocket. When you have
a good offensive line. We have a good offensive coordinator.
But all of a sudden, you're offensive line falters. Last
year it was without Tyler Effort who was injured. Last
year was out without Hugh Jackson, who left to be
the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, And all of
a sudden, the roof fell in on Andy Dalton. Andy
(03:17):
Dalton Ellen, he has been bad. He doesn't seem to
have the confidence to get back to being good. And
they have some dudes that can really play. On the
other hand, as much as Joe Mixon's probably their best
running back, it doesn't you have three running backs, you
don't need them. If you don't have any offensive line,
it doesn't really matter. But some games actually do matter more.
(03:40):
And last night's game not only likely ended the Bengal
season because they still have to go to Pittsburgh, go
to the Green May Packers, next, go to Pittsburgh, still
go to Baltimore. Still go to Denver, still, go to
Tennessee still like those are l l l l L.
But not only that, but you had the Texans at
home with a rookie quarterback, without eight players, without the
(04:02):
Texans having their starting left tackle. The Texans weren't good.
They were just slightly better than the hapless, helpless Cincinnati Bengals.
And oh yeah, by the way, it's on Thursday night football,
which gives you extra time off, but extra time to stew,
extra time for your fans to be pissed, and it's
on full display for the rest of the league. And
(04:26):
speaking of the rest of the league, I told you
it wouldn't be good, and to say it wasn't good,
I like watching football. Then I love watching football. It's great.
It's just a great TV sport. Time out. You got
a break, go to the bathroom, get popcorn, you can
put your kids to bed and come back. I like
watching football. That was a tough watch, Rahma said, I
(04:51):
accurately portray yesterday how bad last night's football game would be.
That would be affirmative. Music's texting me's like if only
somebody I have said it was. And look, this is
not groundbreaking stuff. But like but like people were people like, well,
maybe it's early in the season. They're not that tired yet. Like, no, no,
football is NFL football is never good on Thursday after
(05:12):
playing in a Sunday. It's just not that it's just
not good. It's just not good. But boy was that
bad and boy wasn't a bad look And the Bengals
knew it looked bad and and and their reaction to
it is like, yeah, the offense is bad, Like we're
gonna the first thing to go is the coordinat of
The second thing to go is the quarterback. The third
(05:34):
thing to go is the head coach. That's the way
it goes, you know. And there's a certain amount of
Colin Kaepernick to Andy Dalton. What happens with with Colin?
With Andy Dalton? And I say, Colin Kaepernick, everybody thinks
about the protests, but what you forget about was, um,
(05:54):
Andy Dalton came into a great situation. They've always had
good skill position players there, had a j Green there.
I used to have Mohammed Sanu there. He's had very
good offensive coordinates. Jake Gruden was the offensive coordinator before
Hugh Jackson was the offensive creator. Both have gone both
are really well regarded coordinators and at least one has
(06:15):
gone on to being a very good head coach. And
Hugh Jackson right now he's an unwinnable job, but he's
actually doing a decent job in Cleveland in terms of
of rebuilding nothing. So he came into a great situation
with a good coordinator, with good surrounding town, with a
good offensive line. That's like Colin Kaepernick. Colin Kaepernick took
over a team that had been in the NFC Championship
Game the year before, a team that probably should have
(06:37):
beaten the Saints to go to the Super Bowl if
not for a couple of ill time fumbles in special teams.
If not for that, the Diners would have gone the
Super Bowl without him. So Colin Kaepernick took over, and
when Frank Gore started to age a little bit, the
offensive line started to fracture when he was asked to
do more, when he was asked to carry a team
(06:59):
instead of just being solid, consistent handing the ball off
and occasionally scrambling for a first down. When they asked
Kaepernick to be something more, he just didn't have it. Like,
don't misremember who Colin Kaepernick is? As a player, in
addition to the fact that he's not the same athlete
he was because he had knee surgery, and he doesn't
(07:20):
have the same arm that he had because he had
shoulder surgery. Even when he had the legs, even when
he had the shoulder, there were limitations to him because
he couldn't change his arm angle, he couldn't throw while
scrambling to his left. He would rather run than keep
his eyes downfield. There were flaws to Colin Kaepernick, but
he was in a ready made situation, and when the
(07:40):
bottom fell out with their offensive line was something they
didn't have good enough wide receivers or they aged, and
when the coaching staff changed, suddenly he got exposed as
not really being good enough. And that's what's happened to
Andy Dalton. Forget about the protest. Dalton and Kaepernick are
very much the same. They came into great situations and
they were given they were treated with at gloves and
by the time they should have been they were. They
(08:03):
were pushed. They weren't like thrown into the last night.
He kind of threw Deshaun Watson of the deep end
granted very limited playbook and if he didn't see something
he ran for. But putting him on the road with
that offensive line against the good Bengals defense, that's thrown
him to deep end. That's not what what he What
the Bengals did with Dalton and what even more so,
(08:23):
what the Niners did with kaeperniy gives they they they
did the water wings, water wings, water wings, right, swim lessons,
swim lessons, swim lesson and then they took off the
water things like all right, now, go let's see what
you do in the deep end. And a lifeguard can't
say it couldn't save Kaepernick and can't save Dalton. Were
(08:45):
you guys good swimmers as kids? I remember I took
swim lessons and I've never been able to dive, isn't
it had first? That's ok. Yeah, you're a pencil dive,
which is like that pencil dive is not a dive.
Pencil dive is a call. They dive in name only.
(09:05):
It's not really a pencil dive. Pencil divers foot feed first.
A dive is a dive right head first is always diving, correct,
You dive into dive into a pool as you do
otherwise it's it's some it's jumping into pool. Otherwise canniball
I am. I am a great cannonballer. I can do
the jack knife, I can do I got a good
cannonball form and all that stuff. Um, but I couldn't die.
(09:31):
And the reason was when I was six years old,
I was taking swim lessons at Foothill High School in Tustin, California,
and I dove in and I just kind of lost
where I was and I kind of got like a
case of like underwater like vertigo, right scared the hell
out of me. And like to this day, I still
don't feel comfortable diving. I'm a much better swimmer now
because I have kids and I swim with my kids
than I ever used to be. UM. And but once
(09:56):
you kind of get that, you just start kind of
spinning and you you your loo is that confidence? You
lose that that ability. And I kind of think that's
where any Dalton is. You know, they're booing him. People
have said he has a ceiling. Now he's starting to
believe it, and he's just missing on throws that you
can't miss on even you know their last possession. I
(10:18):
don't know if you guys saw this, do you guys
watch the entirety of the game. They got the ball
back several times, good field position. They get the ball
back with like a minute and a half ago, like
two time outs and a chance to drive down the field,
and they're down thirteen and nine at the time, and
um on third down, he scrambled to his right and
he kind of gave up early and threw the ball
(10:39):
away through the ball out of bounds. And then it
was like he looked at the score clock and realized
it was third down, and he was like, damn it
or whatever he said, And to me it was any
Dalton's a smart guy's not an idiot, but I think
that he's that. It's he has such a lack of
self confidence, such a lot that even now his awareness
(11:01):
has suffered. And he was like, I can't believe I
threw that all the way on third down, because you
would never you would always take a chance on third
down to squeeze one in over by the sideline or
run it and try and get a couple of extra
yards before running out of bounds. But instead he bailed
on that thing early to stop the clock, not realizing
certain now of a sudden he had to get a
completion on fourth down and he threw it to a
wide receiver that wasn't even open. Bengals are done. Texans
(11:27):
were less than impressive. Bad look for Thursday Night football,
with exception of Tariko, who was awesome. Tarrico is awesome,
so is Zionigo over on radio. That's about the only
good things I can say about. There's a football and
I guess the Texans kind of saved their season as
of now. But boy, how about that NFC a f
C South Titans lose at home, Jaguars win and they're
(11:51):
in first place. Colts looked like the worst team in
football Houston, just hanging out with no real quarterback play,
hoping that Blake Bortles pulls his play. US played Portal's
invitation the rest of the year. Cooper couple join us
upcoming next. Does he know how big he's gotten? Not
in the fantasy football community? That does he feel that
every Does he understand everybody's talking about it? And how
(12:15):
much does Sean McVeigh. Sean has to he has all
of the codes, the launch codes in d C. He's
got have shared everything right. We'll get to that next,
But first week one is in the books. Cooper Cups
the first perfect example of this. Say you didn't draft
him and in your fantasy football league you're kicking yourself

Fox Sports Radio. Is he there? He's not there yet.
I'm like, this guy's He's the guy everybody wants to
(14:02):
talk to, honestly, and I don't think you could pick
him out of the lineup, Ramos. What does Cooper Cup
look like? Ah? He's a tall white person. I love you?
Is that right? I love you? U Uh yeah, I
mean okay, what what is tall? It's like six two? Okay, good? Yeah,
(14:26):
you got that. That's that that is technically is tall?
Are you looking at the picture, Ramos? I see you
look at a counter. I know he's blonde. I know you.
You know he's blonde. Yeah, well he's you're a RAMS fan.
I am a RAMS fan. Did byre do you think
you could pick? Do you think you could pick Cooper
Cup out of the lineup? Um? I think I can do. Okay,
But I will say Wikipedia, as of like a month ago,
had him as Cooper cough like to to abs instead
(14:49):
of two ps. So that's how much of a climate's
been for Cooper cup did I mean? But you you
knew he was blond and six to Yeah? I looked
at up with white, right, because I look a black
guy named Cooper. Cooper is not a black guy's name.
It's just not. By the way, Cooper is a great name,
like every right, because you can go Cooper, but you
(15:09):
always call a guy Coop. I have no doubt that
his nickname is Coop and we don't know each other,
and I'm gonna ask him. I can call him Coop Coop?
Can I call you Coop? Coop? Coop? Everybody calls him
Coop Coop? Right, he's better than calling him Cup? Yeah,
uh yeah. But my my point is, and Ramo's kind
of ruined the point because he's super well, he's kind
(15:30):
of sick, comes kind of super, he's super almost creepy
rams fan, right, is that? Uh again? Because he's not
oh b J with the hair, because he played at
Eastern Washington and you've just heard of him, like I
just know he's white and he can catch footballs and
he's gonna get a lot of catches for the Rams, right,
That would be most of America's assumption of who Cooper
(15:52):
Cup is. Like if there was a Cooper Cup impersonator
who hopped on the phone and answered all the questions,
and like, would you even know? You would know? One
would have any idea. And yet, and yet anyone who
has anything to do with the NFL or fantasy football
absolutely knows who Cooper Cup is. That's also a fair assumption. Correct,
You're like, who the else this Cooper Cup? How is
(16:15):
it a white receiver tearing up the league? And he
doesn't play for the Patriots? Right? We had to ask him, like,
eventually you gotta play for the Patriots, don't you? These
of course they're running jokes. Anyway, I'm super excited he'll
join us. Thanks to true Car, you can find out
what other people in the area paid for the same
car you're looking for new or use visit true Car
to enjoy more confident car buying experience. There are there
(16:36):
are a a series of super interesting NFL games, and
probably the most underrated interesting NFL game is going to
be at the l A Coliseum. The Redskins, who are
coming off a year in which their quarterback through for
nearly five thousand yards. The offensive coordinger last year is
(16:57):
the head coach of the Rams. Now, Redskins don't want
to fall to Owen two. We know about the percentages
of teams that make the playoffs when you go to
Owen two. But it's like, the Redskins should all know
what the Rams want to do offensively because they're coached
offensively by their former offensive coordinator, and their former offensive
coordinator is the coach of the Rams. So the Rams
(17:19):
defense should know what the Redskins are doing offensively. The
man everybody's talking about the NFL Cooper Cup joints us
in the Doug Gotlub Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um
safe to say that Sean McVeigh knows a thing or
two about your upcoming opponent? Yeah, yeah, I would say
that's at okay. So does that help for you guys, like,
(17:39):
because there is the there's also the I don't I
don't think there's as much you know, in season scrimmaging,
in season breakdown of defense from the offensive side, how
much does it help the offense? I know it helps
the defense, and I'm sure he's worked with Wade Phillips
a ton on. Hey, here's what they're looking for, and
here's what they like to do, and here's the route.
But what about the offense because that defense played against
(18:01):
his offense last year. Does it help you guys or
is there a limited effect? You know, at the end
of the day, and we're really preparing for this thing
the same he did last week. Um, there's really that
much of a change. I mean, you know, players, um change,
a personnel changes from one year to another. So it's
really about you know, studying film and understanding how those
guys play the game and how we can attack that
(18:21):
and um, you know, and and really at the end
of the day, uh, you know, we have to go
out there and execute just like we would any other week.
So no, things really haven't changed that much. Cooper Cup
joining us on the Doug Gotlives Show. What has this
been like for for you to have everyone talking about you? Right?
Like fantasy football guru guy on TV started talking about
you a couple of weeks ago and now it comes
(18:43):
off everybody's tongue that like, Cooper Cup, do you have
on your fantasy team? Do you have on your daily
fantasy team? What what has it this's been like this
experience been like for you, Uh, you know, it's been
pretty Uh it's been kind of crazy. But I mean
I thought I stay off social media and oh stuff,
so I don't really hear much on on that end
(19:03):
of things, and um, you knowing, really, I'm just trying
to focus in on preparing for this week and doing
what I canada help the Rams get w and uh,
you know that's really been my focus over the last
few uh last few days. But you come you were
playing in Cheni, Washington, right for for Eastern Washington. Now
you're playing for the l A Rams, but for people
who don't understand, like you guys trained in Thousand Oaks,
(19:24):
which is, I don't know, forty five minutes our outside
of downtown l A. And like, I'm not saying you're
an anonymous guy, but we were just talking. Like with
the exception of uh my my technical director who's a
super RAMS fan, most people couldn't identify you. So do
you hear people talking about the Rams even though they
don't know that you're an actual Ram, right, Like that's
(19:45):
like they're talking about you in front of you without
knowing they're talking about you. No, you know what hasn't
happened yet? Um has ha been yet? But you know
I can let you know if aver comes up, you know,
But you know, I think Paul of the issue is,
you know, there's no a lot of times you're on
campus and then my I have some incredible cook so
we don't eat out a whole lot. You know that
might not be helping things a whole lot. What what's
she make? What's what's her what's your go to? Oh? Man,
(20:08):
so she makes it. This isn't gonna sound just stay
stay with me on this makes some at least incredible
cauliflower tacos. Yeah, I listen, you guys told my instagram.
No look, I mean I'm telling you that. Okay, lit, No, no,
hold way listen. I'm all in on the cauliflower thing.
I mean I make. I'm put cauliflower in the grill.
I put down a tinful of sheets, some olive oil,
(20:29):
and and I've seen the cauliflower. I would say, uh,
corner flower. Ah, we do a corn corn okay? And
what else goes in the cauliflower tacas? Well, she makes
a homemade uh swall that goes on it. And then
homemade sausa, some avocado, um, and you know we usually
have a you know, side dish or some kind side dish.
(20:50):
Has to be some sort of protein, right. That sounds
like a lot of both natural and natural carbs. You've
got some side of proteins, so I mean, you know, yeah,
we can have some you know, so well have like
you know beans, something like that. You know, she gets
the protein on plate. Okay, So is this Taco Tuesday?
You do Taco Tuesday every Tuesday? Is it? I can, honey,
I can have the tacos every single night. What's what's
the game plan? We whenever we want to do the tacos,
(21:14):
we'll just we'll do it. We don't wait for Tuesdays
to come around. We just we just throw it on
the on the stove top and get things on. I love,
I love a good taco. We do taco Tuesdays in
my house. Patacos are good any like Cooper Cup joining
us on the Doug gott Leaves Show, Jared Goff was
was criticized a lot last year. Number one overall pick
wasn't expected to play. Did play obviously you know you
weren't there, but uh didn't go? Well? How big was
(21:38):
not just the win, but it's one thing to win
and that's big, but to win and to play well
offensively and to find his own personal rhythm. You're with
him leading up, you're with him in the huddle, you're
with him afterwards. How big do you think it was?
You know, like you said, I wasn't here last year,
so I'm not you know sure exactly what that was like. Um,
(22:00):
but anytime as a team can come out with the
W know, there's uh you feel good about that. Um,
as we're able to win this game with uh every
part of our you know, offense, defenstance, special teams really
playing pretty well and um, you know defense obviously scored
sixty points on rone which helps out offensive offensive ton
and um, you know, I think you know live Jared.
(22:20):
I mean, I think he was obviously pleased with how
he played and how the offense played. But UM, I
think he had you on the offensive time like as
a as a whole was you know, we gotta come
back and h well, there was still we were acting
the cup points. There's still a lot of stuff that
we can fix and stuff that we need to hold
ourselves a higher standard. A and um, you know so
it's really about, you know, moving on to Washington, getting
back to the facility, and correcting our mistake. Okay, for
(22:42):
people who don't know about Cooper Cup's career at Eastern Washington,
he had the most yards in the history of FCS. Okay,
previously was Jerry Rice with four thousand, six hundred ninety three.
I don't know if you guys know he had six thousand,
four hundred and and sixty four. He also had seventy
three receiving touchdowns. The worst year you had, your red
(23:02):
shirt freshman year you had was ninety three catches. After that,
over a hundred catches every year in college. And I
know you threw it a lot, like I know about
all that, but still a remarkable career. All that said,
what's the feeling like catching your first NFL touchdown? It's
pretty incredible, Um, you know, and uh, you know, I'm
(23:23):
just glad there would be a part of uh, hoping
our our team get w and just being able to
a gulf and producing and do what the team asked
me to do. And um, you know, really I wasn't
thinking about too much. I ended up tossing the ball
to the ref and I didn't realized until afterwards. I
probably should have kept the ball, so you never got
it back. No, so luckily I came in here on
I came in here on Tuesday, I believe, and uh,
(23:46):
Monday or Tuesday, and alright, quit manager hat in my locker.
So he went out and save me. Wait, so he
got the ball. How do you know that's the actual ball?
I mean, couldn't he have just gone and gotten any
other ball and like scuffed it up and go, here
you go, Coop, here's your here it is. You know,
I'm trusted in him on this one. And if anyone
else can prove it wrong, and they can do that,
but until then, I'm calling that first. Any truth to
(24:07):
the rumor your parents named you Cooper just because they
liked the nickname Cooper, Right, that's what they did, right. No, No,
it's a really it's actually my name. It's not a
great story. I'm not proud of it. Can you share it? Okay?
Here we go. So, Um, my parents had a dog
named Cooper when they had first gotten married. And um,
(24:32):
when the day that my mom told my dad that
she was pregnant, the dog ran away and they never
found it. And then they ended up naming me Cooper.
So I was essentially named after my parents first dogs.
But they love that dog. They didn't and I'm sure
they love you very much. I mean, maybe not as
much as the dog, right, but and you're kind of
maybe a spinning image of the dog in many ways.
(24:55):
It was a lab. It was was it was a lab.
It feels like a lab story I try not to
think about. I've tried to kind of block it out
of my mind, right since we're sharing, Just so you know,
my name is Doug. But my dad actually want to
name me Rusty, right, so I will say I tell
you Coop's a cool name. Cooper is a cool name.
And though you may be named after a dog, it's
probably their favorite dog. It definitely is better than the
name Rusty. Although I wasn't named Rusty, he wanted to
(25:17):
name me Rusty. I'm glad, I'm glad. I'm glad. Yeah,
I'm glad you could could could share that, Okay, So um,
we we talked a little bit about knowing McVeigh. Look,
he's a super high energy guy but a super focused
guy as well. Has it has it changed any because
it's Washington, because it's an organization he came from. Uh no, not,
(25:38):
I mean, like I said before, I mean this week,
really we're preparing. Every every LaDue is all the same
that there was last week, and uh you know, uh,
we we're at I've said before, but if you were,
if you have to change how you prepare from week
to week in terms of how much time you're putting
in or what the focus is like. And why is
it not like that every week? Why is it? Why
(25:59):
are you not there a weekend and week out. I mean,
we're gonna prepare and do everything we can to to
the best of our ability, and that that's not going
to change to pick on who the opponent is. Hey, Coop, listen,
congrats on the hot start everybody, and I know you're
on social and maybe you're not paying attention because you're
doing your job and you're eating your wife's cauliflower tacos.
Everybody's talking about yet and expecting huge things, But it's
(26:21):
because of how you looked in the preseason, how you
looked in college, and how you fit in this offense.
Best of luck this weekend against the Skins, and thanks
so much for joining us. Thank you very much, so
thanks for having all right, that's Cooper Cup joining us,
named after a dog on Fox Sports Trade. But I
love that dog. I love that dog. I gotta think
about all these things in your name, your kid, though.
(26:42):
I've often said, like you take Bill and Wolfgang and
you meet in the middle. That's where you know, like
you don't want to Steve, you don't want the tow
average name, but you also don't want the name. Um.
I have a friend who has a there's a girl
and my friends preschool class. Jemima. I'm not kidding you, Jemima.
(27:06):
I love some syrup too, but I'm not I am
not naming my kid, Jemima. Dan Bay are joining us
with the latest what he got? Damn well, Cooper Cup
and the Rams gotta win over the Colts in week one.
Week to the Coats get the Arizona Cardinals. Is they're
facing the NFC West this season. And it looks like
Jacoby Brissette's gonna be the starting quarterback for Indianapolis now Colt,
said coach Chuck mcgonogh told reporters a final decision hasn't
(27:28):
been named on a starter four Week two, but the
NFL Network says they are going with Brissette Bengos f
fired offensive coordinator Ken's and Peas after Cincinnati failed to
score a touchdown in the first two games this season.
That means quarterbacks coach Bill Laser will take over the
offense for Cincinnati. Chargers have ruled out corner Jason Verrette
for Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a knee injury.
The Chargers announced they have single game tickets available for
(27:51):
that home opener against Miami on Sunday in the twenty
seven thousand seat StubHub Center. Vikings reportedly concerned about quarterback
Sam Bradford, who was limited in practice this week because
of a knee issue, but Ed coach Mike Zimmer says
he expects Bradford to start this Sunday against the Steelers.
In Major League Baseball, Cardinals and Cubs right now tied
up at one a piece. At the top of the
fifth inning, Chris Bryant to solo home run for Chicago,
(28:14):
who started the day three up on the Cardinals and
Brewers for first place in the NL Central. And golf,
Jason Dat's the BMW at thirteen under had a hole
in one today, Ricky Followers one shot back, and finally
Doug in the NBA. A report from ESPN says legislation
is being sent to the NBA's Board of Governors that
will reform the NBA draft lottery and also allow Commissioner
(28:34):
Adam Silver to find teams if they rest our players.
I think that's fascinating to me, Like, I don't really
know how you fix the tanking. Like they're mad about tanking,
but the tanking hasn't actually worked right, Like I'm not
the only one the Sixers, the Sixers of the team
that pissed everybody off because they were trusting the process
(28:55):
and tanking. But the Sixers only had the number one
overall pick once and that was Ben Simmons, who didn't
even play his rookie season. Like that's the crazy part
about it. But yeah, they got Joel Embiad, but they
got Joel Embiad fourth because he had an injury. So,
uh so I don't I don't really understand what they
what they're doing. I I think they're trying, and they've
(29:16):
tried to fix the lottery previously. Uh And they've actually
tried to fix a lottery previously to help teams that
lose more games get a better draft pick and they're
actually gonna kind of change some of that change the
percentage wise, So now you're gonna reward teams in the
middle more, which I just I feel like it's gonna
bury the bottom. It's gonna bury the bottom. And maybe
(29:38):
there's that's good for business. Right if the Lakers get
it back, if the Celtics get it back, if the
Nicks get it back. You know, if you have the
Golden State Warriors already have it rolling, if the if
the big cities, the best teams, um. If if those
teams are already set and some of them have an
off year and don't make the playoffs and then they
get another Like but like, what do you do if
(30:01):
you're one of these will be gotten franchises and then
you you legitimately aren't good, you lose games, and then
you don't get a top three pick, Like you're completely screwed.
You like Oklahoma City. Worst case scenario. Okay, here's worst
case scenario. Westbrook and um Paul George both leave, you
(30:24):
could have they're both three agents. Westbrook to this point
has not signed the contract extension which is on his desk,
which would be the richest contract in the history of
the NBA. He has until the start of the season
to October to sign it. Let's say it doesn't sign it,
they have a disappointing year, he and Paul George gone
back to l A. Both from l A. Okay, could happen,
worst case scenario. So the next year they're terrible, and
(30:45):
they're terrible because they're terrible, and they go to the
draft lottery and they don't get a top three, top
four pick because why because the Sixers tanked for a
couple of years and only got one number one overall pick, Like,
how does that make any sense? Yes, I'm always curious
as to why did all of a sudden the league
become so concerned with teams at the bottom, Like people
(31:06):
always like like Charles Barkley, for example, always says like, oh,
these bad teams, like they're unwatchable. Like, at what point
ever in the history of the NBA did you ever
get excited about watching teams that were bad? Like it's
inevitable that when you have competition like this, teams are
gonna be good and teams are gonna be bad, and
you hope that the teams are bad aren't bad forever.
So why is it now that there's like this all
of a sudden, you need to fix the lottery system,
(31:29):
Like I just don't understand, Like I think it's the
I think it's the optics. I think it's the optics
of it's it's like, Look, the reason that sports are
better than Broadway is the end is not predetermined. Right.
It's the same reason. It's the same reason that um uh,
you know that the gambling on sports that they don't
(31:50):
want that you can't have anybody throwing a game, right
is because the the ending, not just the ending, but
the the different in terms of point total. It cannot
be predetermined. And they feel like people are predetermining it
and you're making it. You know it must see games
you're making it, must not watch games. And I would
(32:10):
also say that I think that a lot of this
is the backlash from ESPN and Turner and being like, hey, guys,
what the hell right, what the hell are you doing here?
What are you doing? We paid all this money, like ESPN,
This is the real part that's hurt their company is
not the cord cutters as much as as this this
(32:34):
mere factoid they thought they were gonna play two x
whatever they're paying for the NBA. They thought they were
going to pay twice that to retain the NBA rights.
They end up paying three times that. I believe they're
paying seven or fifty million dollars year. They thought they're
gonna have to pay one point four million dollars year.
They end up paying over two two billions to one
(32:55):
point four billion. They end up playing over two billion
maybe for the rights all told, so they it was
two extra three x. So the the ESPN is like, hey, look,
we paid way more than we wanted for your product,
and we're not even getting the best of your product
because we don't know when guys are gonna play, and
then when teams go bad in the middle of the
(33:17):
season they shut it down. And look, that's what this is. Really.
It's also a reaction to Mark Cuban who said, you know,
once we thought we weren't gonna make the playoffs, we
decided to tank because there's a reward in that, and
so this would cut at the heart of that. But
even that didn't work, even didn't get them one pick.
You can get a top four pick um, So why
(33:44):
do they worry about the bottom because it's supposed to
be thirty owners in it together. The owners in these
small market franchises have already felt like, hey, all these
guys are gonna leave? Are They felt like the Indiana Pacers.
The second you don't feel like you can compete, you're
gonna leave and go to a big market where can
make more money and you have a better chance to
win and join up with your boys. And we're left
(34:05):
with bad teams. We can't sell tickets, and we can't
sell corporate packages, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, and ESPN and Turner like,
we can't get people to watch if we don't have
our best players playing. And this is the reaction to it.
Should the NFL be worried about games not selling out?
I'll tell you next what True Car. You can find
(34:31):
out what other people in your area paid for the
same car you're looking for, new or used. Visit True
Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug otlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Mm hmmmmmmm. Cut it that simple fact.
(34:53):
I hope you're having a great Friday. Ope you've got
an outstanding weekend. Ramos, You're gonna have to track my
winning record in coaching youth sports. I have first baseball
game coaching on Sunday wonder Funday morning. Yes, you have
a soccer game tomorrow, soccer game for Lucas at eight
in the morning and for Sarah at eleven. But you're
coaching Sarah's team, right, both teams and eight huge team
(35:15):
is called what the Silver Nights, Silver Nights? Uh? Sarah's
team is called what the Blue Crew? The Blue Crew?
All right, Silver Nights, Blue Crew. We have yet to
be named a team. They're like on the fall, you
can kind of name your own team. I was gonna
ask you on your team name. But slappies, let's play
a game. This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
(35:47):
What do you got there, Dan Buyer? We have got today?
Psychic psychic, alright, psychics, there's a lot to look forward
to this weekend. Let's start. How about this from college utball.
Only two college football games with the ranked teams facing
each other this weekend. It's number three climbs and at
number fourteen Louisville and number twenty three Tennessee at number
(36:09):
twenty four Florida. All the rest are just one ranked
team against the non ranked team. So, psychic, what college
football team that is ranked should be worried this weekend.
That's a great question because this is one of those like, oh,
it doesn't look like there's a lot of good college
football games, right because you know, uh, they're playing. You know,
Alabama shouldn't be worried. I don't think South Florida, although
(36:29):
they're seventeen point favorite. I got my picks up coming
later on the show. I'll tell you the team that
probably should be most worried. You ready for it? Yes?
L s U O L s U. Right. I mean, look,
um lu's taken on Mississippi State on the road in Starkville.
I don't know if you see Nick Fitzgerald play, but
(36:49):
Fitzgerald is a run pass threat, UM, super super athletic.
They have a really good uh, They've got a couple
of good running backs. They've got a couple of decent
wide receivers. Donald Grays have their best wide receiver. Uh
Froud Green is their kind of deep threat. You're just
you're playing on the road in the SEC and you
really don't kind of know what you have and they
physically man handled b y U. We're not gonna do
(37:11):
that against Mississippi State. I don't believe Mississippi State has
scored forty nine and fifty seven points in the first
two games. Granted against uh UM inferior competition, but like, look,
if I have a team I'm most worried to be
it b L s U on the road, first first
road game. Indee, come on, maybe, come on, come come.
Maybe the Oars are right there. Let's move to the
(37:33):
National Football League. The largest NFL spreads this week right now,
according to Nevada, have the Seahawks as a fourteen point
favorite over the Niners and the Raiders also a fourteen
point favorite over the Jets. I know the picks are
coming up later on, but psychic, do both one or
none of these teams cover this weekend? Well, it's interesting,
Um Raiders, you said Raiders, right, Yes, Raiders over the Jets.
(37:54):
I like, I like. I like the Raiders, Raiders coming
off a road win at home against the Jets, who
do and have an offense. UM Seahawks Niners, though, it
is interesting, Like I actually think the Niners defense is
pretty good and the Seahawks offense struggles. But remember the Niners,
as you pointed out yesterday, I believe to me right,
Niners youngest team in the NFL. The Browns were, but
(38:15):
the second with the second youngest. They've completely revamped their
roster um. I think the team most in in the
spread that is most likely to not be covered would
be the Seahawks Niners traditional rivalry. It's not the Seahawks
aren't good, it's that I'm just not believing in their
offensive line against the Niners, team that has literally nothing
(38:36):
to lose. The l A Chargers have announced that single
game tickets are available for Sunday's opener against the Miami Dolphins. Yeah,
tickets are available in the twenty seven thousand seats StubHub Center.
So psychic will this game end up selling out? It
will end up being sold out. Here's the crazy thing, Like,
why is the NFL not doing more to help the
(38:58):
Chargers in the rams what they're playing at the exact
same time. It just strikes me as I mean, they're
not there. What do you think, guys? Thirty minutes in
between the two? Yeah, Carson in downtown Los Angeles, thirty
minutes in between the two, and you should there are
enough people in l A to fill up both stadiums,
But like, why risk it? Like you wouldn't you wouldn't
(39:20):
do that in New York obviously Oakland. Now with San Francisco,
they're not that close together. There's like an hour and
a half between almost San Jose where San Francisco plays,
and different fan bases where you're trying to establish a
foothold for both of these teams. You're not doing many favors. Um.
I do think that stadium in Tendence is a problem
because more than anything, why would you go like, I
(39:42):
want to watch all the teams play, like I want
three four TVs wherever I am, I want to watch
Red Zone and at least one of the TV two
TVs the minimum three TVs is preferred. But um, I
think a lot of this is the NFL not doing
many favors. The Kansas City Royals get three more chances
to the Indians winning streak now at twenty two games,
(40:02):
so psychic will the Royals be the team to end
the streak this weekend? The Ship end the streak last night? Right,
they had the league go into the ninth including couldn't
close Mount lost in the tenth. But yes, I mean
the Royals have played remarkably much better baseball. Vargas goes
tonight against Trevor Bauer right, Uh so I don't know
if that and then Carrasco is back against Jason Hamill.
(40:26):
That's on Saturday. On Sunday it's Corey Klueber against Danny Duffy,
so they're not losing Sunday with Klueber. It has to
happen the next two nights. Will it happen? M hm, yes,
I think it happens, so psychic. Finally, what's the combined
score of John soccer matches this weekend? As head coach? Well,
his daughter's team is obviously not good. They got smokes
(40:47):
having nothing last week Sun's team. I'm feeling I'm feeling
a little bit more. I think the Sun's team gets
beat five to three. Daughter's team, Sarah's team gets beat
in the eight one variety, So it combined thirteen to four.
That's what I'm looking at. It is game time on
the Doug Gotlib Show. Did orange wedges do orangeges at
(41:08):
the half? Orange wedges? There's there's certain things which I
don't know they It's like purely soccer is orange wedges
at the half? Yes? I never played at a sport
where I had orange wedges at all. Um. I just
remember I did we did orange wedges as kids like
growing up in southern California, do orange wedges for I
remember for everything for football at halftime for uh football
(41:31):
and soccer mostly, And then we played in in college.
We played at U and l V two years in
a row. And you know if he was the only
place we ever played where at halftime they had orange
wedges in the locker room. There's one NFL game this
weekend I find fascinating. Tell you what that is upcoming
next in the Doug gotli Show Boom, What Up America?
(41:58):
Doug Gottlieb show Box Sports Radio Live and direct from
the City of Angels, where you have not one but
two NFL teams that play at the same time in
the same city on the same day. What could possibly
go wrong? I could possibly go wrong? What Up? Welcome in.
I hope you're ready to have an awesome weekend. Awesome,
(42:19):
awesome weekend. We got picks for you up coming later
on in the show, I'm gonna tell you about one
game I find fascinating in a second, but I think
I might be more fascinated by the fact that, um,
the biggest story in sports is not the biggest story
in sports right, Like, that's the crazy part to me.
(42:41):
The Cleveland Indians won their twenty second consecutive game last night.
We've we've we've told you this before that we actually
care um or at least me and John Ramos care.
Ryan Music, producer of the Doug Gottlieb Show. Do you
here not really not really meaning's okay, it's listen, It's okay, dude,
(43:06):
I would say, but by definition of not really means
like I'm aware of it happening, but there's no part
of me that's ever going like, man, I really want
to see if I can watch this next Indians game.
Uh No, I don't think you want to watch the
next Indians game. But the Indians have like, look, here's
(43:27):
here's the sale. Okay. So much of baseball is about history, right,
so much of so much of baseball is about is
about history, and historically this is the greatest streak winning
streak in the history in the modern history of the sport.
(43:49):
And they've done it. You guys realized Andrew Miller was
just activated. They activated the robot known as Andrew Miller.
Is that a bad knee? We just activated last night
and I've done it with Jason Kitness and Michael Brantley
on the d L, like two of their best players
on the d L and their best reliever on the
(44:10):
d L. They've gone on this ridiculous streak, which is
a longer streak than any in the history modern history
of the sport. And yet I feel like like a
bad NFL game and last night was a bad NFL
game Trump set or the Trump versus ESPN thing Trump
(44:32):
set instead of actual sports, actual greatness from a team
that's really really good, has a chance to have the
best record in baseball still at the end of the season,
and they went to the World Series. With the Game
seven of the World Series last year. I think it's fascinating.
(44:55):
Dan Buyer, Uh, what's your what's your level of fascination
with the Indian store. I actually was very disappointed to
myself last night because I was watching the NFL game.
But but you did, But you did? You did? Uh? Um?
Turn over to MLB network. No, I didn't. And that's
(45:15):
what was disappointing. That's why I was disappointed in myself
was I got the alert on the phone. I saw
that the Indians were in a close game, maybe in
the seventh or eight fitting at that point, and then
I lost track because I was watching Texans Bengals. I
was right there with you, Dan. At no point I
didn't watch the game either. I mean I was watching,
(45:36):
but I was watching and listening to. Like I had
back to school night, I had my son at basketball.
I picked him up. We were listening to the game,
plus Eagles calling the game. I've done games. I think
I Eagles the best broadcast, best play by play man
in the business, um in the NFL business, and frankly
NBA college basketball as well. I think he's the best.
So I was listening to and then Rico is doing it.
He's right there in the conversation like it was great
(45:58):
and the game was terrible, and it was ever anything
we talked about. But I mean, at least Dan was
paying attention to the score, like I don't expect you
to watch every pitch or really care about it. I
didn't turn back, and that's why I was. I was
disappointed in myself. Was I found out because the alert
on my phone popped up and said Indians win in
ten innings, and I'm like, oh goodness, I forgot to
(46:19):
turn back and even check in on the game. But
That's what I'm saying. Like I'm with dan In in
the sense of like I'm aware of it. I know
it's happening. I'll check in to see if they're winning
or not. But at no point, and when I'm watching
like other sporting events that I'm more interested in and
now for everyone, like I'm a Bengals fan, so that
probably has a lot to do with this. So when
I was watching the game last night, like I was
invested in the NFL game, and at no point was
(46:41):
I ever like, man, you know what, I gotta check
in on those Indians, And I don't know, did you
ever feel like that, like when you were watching the
game night? No, No, I was not, But I mean
I honestly forgot. You want to know what really happened.
They played in the day the day before, right we
were watching the game, and they played during the day,
like right towards the start of the show is when
(47:03):
and I and I kind of conflated the two days,
like I got home and I drove home, and I
actually kind of butchered last night at home where I
I was, I was driving home and my wife was
taking my girls to uh they ride horses, ride horses
and my son with him, and she was like, I'm
gonna swing back through. Do you think you can get
into basketball? But by the time when I get if,
(47:25):
I get home at like five thirty, and I was like,
yeah I can. I was like, is there anything you
need me to do for you? And she texted me like, hey,
figure out dinner and we need groceries for lunch and so,
and then she texted me, um, hey, don't worry about dinner.
We can figure it out after back to school night.
(47:47):
And so I got there and I got back a
little quicker to my house and I thought I would actually,
as you guys could tell or you saw on cowherd,
I got a fresh eet, I got I got cut
up um. And then because it took long, you know,
like they start going back and fixing every little hair.
I'm like, yeah, I want my haircut, but like I
want to go. And then I went and ran to
the supermarket, got everything I needed, thought I need to get,
(48:08):
but forgot to get anything for dinner. And I got
home and she walked in She's like, what's for dinner?
I was like, oh wait, I thought she said we
could wait till afterwards, like I met me and you. Anyways,
I had to throw pizza in the oven that take
him the basketball and I come back. So I actually,
in my mental kind of rolodex, I was recording the
NFL game and I didn't even think about the Indians
because I thought they had played during the day. And
(48:28):
then I remember getting I remember turning on the TV
at night and like and seeing the call, like and
Jerry Bruce with the walk off double, and I was like, wait,
I thought they won yesterday. I forgot that they played today.
That's actually what happened. But I would think it's like
the biggest story in sports, and it's really not like
people are like, well, boy Tom Brady looks young, that's
(48:48):
that's a bigger story. Yeah, that's that was what was surprising,
just with my own personal experience, was I knew Texans
Bengals was not going to be good, Yeah, exactly, and
that I was watching it enough to forget that the
Indians were in a close game just one channel away.
And that's I guess how I view the streak. Mm hmm.
(49:11):
Maybe football is like like sex, right, Like it's really
that's a bad thing, is bad, Like there's no real
thing it's bad football. Even when it's bad football, is
that possible? Could be Plus it's new, like we're only
in week two, Maybe it would be different if it
was we knew it was now, we knew it was
gonna be bad. We knew it was gonna be bad,
and we just did We knew it was gonna be bad.
(49:34):
Um and we watched it anyway, and then it was
like reaffirmed. How but like music keeps texting me like
this is bad, Like just like you said, this is bad,
and I buddies who would listen to the show, like
this is worse than you even described it as, Like
Thursday football isn't good? Isn't good? There are times in
which the games, like the game last night was the
perfect example of we always think a close game means
(49:56):
it's a good game. Last night's game was closed. Wasn't good?
Wasn't anything good about it? Yeah, that's okay, you got
Rams for next Thursday. This is one of those. I
know I'm old, but do you guys remember when Rams
forty niners was awesome in the nineties? Of course, but no,
I've the music is no idea what we're right? Can
(50:18):
you name one when Rams nineties when the Rams were
actually before they left, before they left l A early nineties,
remember who they had. I'm gonna say Eric Dickerson, but
I have no idea, guys. Nope, I think Jim Everett, right.
I what I remember. I remember Jerome Bettis and they
(50:39):
had Henry Ellard, right, they had Flipper Anderson, and they
used to have they used to have some epic epic
duels and that Kevin Green was on the defense. I
was their star Hall of Famer Kevin Green, who later
went to the what the Carolina Panthers. Um they had
some like epic Monday night football games with the San
Francisco forty Niners. They could never beat that. They were
(51:00):
like the they were like the Nicks to the Bulls.
They could never get past the Niners. You had a
time in the eighties when it was you know, Rams
Niners as well, when you when Eric Dickerson was there.
The Rams made it a couple of n NFC title
games during that time, and of course I thought it
was one. It was one they played the Bears. Chicago
was freezing cold, and I thought it was too But
(51:21):
I could be I could be off on that, but
you could be right, there's very very pobble. But they
were in that mix that you know, like when we
talked about for guys like us that were growing up,
Doug when the Packers weren't good and the Yankees weren't good,
there was that group of teams of the Giants and
the Bears in the forty niners and the Rams were
actually in that conversation at that time of teams that
were competitive. Early nineties. Uh, it was it was early nineties.
(51:46):
They weren't good. I I apologize before they moved, they were.
They won five, three, six, five and four games. I
do remember them being it was it was Jim Everett
for a long time. It was one year in which
they had Henry ell Or Jim Everett and Jerome Bettis
all on the same team and they won five games.
Their best years were they had eighty four ten wins.
(52:08):
That was a strike shorten year. I think eighty six
they had ten wins, and then nine eighty nine they
lost in the conference championship. They went to the seven
where the work stoppage years. Okay, so eight seven that
was a bad year for them. That that actually really
hurt them was those are those are the two kind
of bad years during that stretch when John Robinson was
their coach. Anyway, Rams Niners used to be good and
(52:32):
now it's not very good. That's not what's the week
after that? Ramas, do you know? I don't know. I
just worried about that Thursday night game. I don't I'm
sure it's not worried about the game. No. I think
it's different that I think it's great for the I
think it's great for the Rams. They got the easy
start Colts Redskins at home, and then you got the
Niners in the road, and the Niners are coming off,
(52:53):
uh the Seahawks, right, so the Sea is gonna be done.
They did twice the last year. I continue to believe this. Well,
remember the first of the Monday night game, the first
game of the year, which the hut out um. I
I believe that the Dallas Denver game is the most
interesting game. Uh, We'll circle back around to the Dallas
(53:16):
Denver game. But there's so many different parts of it
that are being a little bit overlooked. And I think
it's fat Dak Prescott on the road schedules tougher this
year against a dynamic pass rush, and I'm not saying
that I'm buying into Trevor Simeon, but he was better
than we give him credit for the other night on
Monday night, and they did win and they are playing
at home. Okay, we'll circle back around to that game.
(53:38):
Paul Mamala Andaji is gonna join us up coming next.
He's a two time world champion box. Of course he's
an analyst for Showtime. I'll get his thoughts among the
overlook things this weekend. Canello Triple G the fight that
fight fans. This is the one I've been waiting for.
Is it me? Or isn't this like the easiest bet ever?
It opened up at minus three for for Triple G.
(53:58):
Now it's minus one for like all the money is
coming all this money is coming in and pushing line
over to Canelo's way. It seems like Triple G is
a much much better fighter in this matchup. Well, ask
PAULI up coming next. But first I want to talk
you about the next big thing in fitness. It's called
the Bullfrog Pro Training System. It's a It's used by
the U. S. Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines, NFL,
(54:21):
NBA teams, Professional motocross MM a rider fighters and and me,
I use it and it's awesome and it doesn't take long.
Like what's the worst things about trying to get into shape? Right, Like, well,
I want to hit all my body parts and I
want to do it quickly, and I don't necessarily need
a gym membership for it. And I also don't want
(54:43):
like heavyweight pounding on my joints. And maybe you're not
a class guy, right you go in and it's like
I don't want to be feel that good by some
motivating class guy going like, Okay, let's go. You're amazing.
This is the thing for you as I used its.
Frog Fitness, go to frog fitness dot com. What you do?
You you like, lay down, put your feet in, put
your hands in, and you do I just do four
(55:04):
exercises ninety minutes, ninety seconds arrest in between, and it's amazing.
To get your Bullfrog Pro training system, just go to
frog Fitness dot com. That's frog Fitness dot Com. The
first step towards getting in the best shape of your life.
Dominate gravity by training horizontally with bull Frog Pro Training System.
It's the worst fun you've ever had. With true car
(55:27):
you can find out what other people in your area
paid for the same car you're looking for and on
average save over three thousand m s r P. Whether
you're looking for a new or use car, visit True
Car and enjoying more confident car buying experience. The weirdest
thing being in Vegas where like the reason that there
were only fourteen thousand UM people in attendance when Mayweather
(55:50):
fun McGregor was, I don't think you can fool boxing fans, right,
And what what you have to know is, like different
demographics by different sporting events, they just do um the
For example, this has been a rough week for one
of my former employers, right. But the reason that ESPN
(56:13):
put Sergio Dip on TV and granted he didn't do
well and it was but they're trying to really reach
the Latino market. Then I look, Latino football fans are
survent fan There's a huge especially in Los Angeles, and
that's what the Charges are trying to reach. The problem
(56:34):
in l A is Latino football fans are mostly Raider fans,
a little bit Rams fans, and none of them are
Charger fans. So it's a it's a really hard one
to try and win. That win the group over. But
that's the logic behind trying around, trying to m what's
it called trying to have somebody who's bilingual where English
is their second language on Monday Night football. But the
(56:59):
reason that so some of it does come down to
demographics and what people will tell you about m m A.
And I said this when I was there. It wasn't
that mm A fans weren't fired up for McGregor just
mm A fans um you know, white, black, Mexican whatever.
They don't have a lot of money boxing fans do.
There are a lot of rich dudes that love the fight,
fight game, and you could not get them to pay
(57:24):
the highest ticket prices in the history of the sport
to watch something that they did didn't they did not
see as legitimate fight. Whereas this fight is legitimate. It
just is. And so while the handle won't be as big,
there'll be a lot of big bets. Every seat will
be sold. Is Triple G versus Canello. And I'll also
(57:46):
be honest with you, I haven't watched a lot of
Canelo's fights since the Mayweather fight, and I still carry
it against him. I just do I know he's matured.
I know this is a better matchup in terms of
U Triple G is not as fast as Floyd us
and so he won't look as stilted as he did
in that fight. But it's really hard. This is like,
(58:07):
this is the like why the whole eye test thing
doesn't work in college basketball or in college football, and
selecting interment like it all depends on when you see them.
When I saw Canela, when I watched every round of
a fight, was the Mayweather fight, and he was just
too slow, and I just did not think he looked
at the level of Floyd Mayweather. And I granted that
(58:28):
was years ago. He's improved. This is a better wait
for him, a better matchup for him. Whereas every time
I've seen Triple G fight, he looks like the best
fighter in the world, I told people, and I am
not a I would not consider myself a boxing nick
boxing guru, but I know enough boxing people and have
(58:49):
watched enough boxing to tell you unequivocally that Triple G
is is and should be regarded right now, not over
the last decade or fifteen years, but right now as
the best powerful pound fighter in the world. And that's
what's at stake this weekend in Vegas, And I can't
understand how anybody thinks Canelo is going to beat him,
(59:09):
because Triple G seems to never let me down, whereas
Canelo has I'll beat only once. I'll be the only one.
Does that make sense, Ramos? It does make sense. Yeah,
And I love I love boxing. I grew up. My
dad threw me up on boxing. Since I was a
little kid, I loved watch boxing. Did you ever box?
I did well in the in the garage with my dad.
(59:31):
You know, he put your dad beat the crap out
of you. And then like see that was that was boxing? Yeah,
it was. But we don't only do it when he
had a tough day at work, but it was. It
was boxing. It's an amazing sport in it It's fine.
I mean that when when we grew up in the
eighties and nineties and even the two thousands of boxing
(59:53):
was incredible. And I agree with you about Triple G though,
he's he is amazing. So I'm I mean, I wish,
I wish I was there, but like, look, it's gonna
make a really good Saturday. You got Louisville taken on
Clemson and then uh and then you have the fight,
so you got a couple of good things, even though
college football is not great early early game Pittsburgh Oklahoma State.
(01:00:15):
Oklahoma State struggle with Pittsburgh last year, but pitt lost
a lot to graduation Ocahm States better. Um so I'm
not nervous as I probably should be my ald mater,
but I'm interested in it. Interesting see what happens. Alright,
we're searching for Paul Paul Molonagi. Is he gonna join
us in the couple moments? All right, here's what we'll do.
(01:00:35):
Let's get to damn buy or find out what else? Do?
I can tell you this, Doug that right now. And
Chicago Cardinals having a bit of a meltown. We're up
to one on the Cubs, but Chicago has rallied now
for a four to lead, still have the bases loaded
with just one out. St. Louis trying to gain ground
on the Cubs in the NL Central as they started
(01:00:56):
the day just three games back of the North Siders.
Cardinals also key in their eye on the Rockies. There's
they're just two and a half back of Colorado for
the final wild card in the National League. In the NFL,
a busy day the Bengals are o and two after
losing last night to the Texans, and today they fired
their offensive coordinator, Ken's ampez Quarterbacks coach Bill Laser is
gonna take over four zampez Um. Any time you do
(01:01:18):
Bill Laser, you gotta do the fingers thing like you
gott do Bill Laser Laser. There you go, Bill Laser Laser.
He's gonna take over and probably can't do much worse.
Bengals still haven't scored a touchdown this season. Yeah, there
the Bengals this year, the Rams of last year. The
speaking of the Rams, They've got the Redskins in Los
Angeles coming up on Sunday, And there was so much
(01:01:39):
talk about how many people filled this Colosseum on Sunday
for that game against the Colts last week. Well, the
stub Hub Center just a little ways away at l
A still hasn't sold out for Sunday's game between the
Chargers and Dolphins. The thousand seat stadium still has tickets
available for that game. If you get tickets for that game,
you won't see Chargers corner Jason Verrette. He's been ruled
(01:02:00):
out because of a knee injury. Now the Colts are
likely going with Jacobe briced Is they're starting quarterback against
the Cardinals coming up in Week two. An NFL Network
report said as much, but Chuck mcganna wouldn't confirm it.
Vikings they're gonna have Sam Bradford starting against the Steelers
on Sunday. That's according to the head coach, Mike Zimmer,
but ESPN says the team is concerned about Bradford's knee issues.
(01:02:21):
Remember he's had those couple of surgeries and apparently had
an m R ride this past week. According to ESPN,
as Bradford dealt was swelling and discomfort in that knee. Also,
Jaguar's corner Jalen Ramsey is considered a game time decision
for their game against Tennessee with an ankle injury, and
a report from the ESPN says legislation is being sent
to the NBA's Board of Governors that will reform the
(01:02:41):
NBA draft lottery, and the report answers of proposal that
will the law Commissioner Adam Silver to fine teams if
they rest our players for national TV games or do
it for multiple games. By the way, both Canelo Alvarez
and um Globkin wait in at hundred and sixty pounds,
but they're about coming up tomorrow night's um. One of
the things kind of missing in that Adam Silver uh legislation,
(01:03:06):
whether the change the lottery is that he can find
like he has autonomous power to penalize teams for what
he thinks is tanking games. Correct. Yes, that's yes, Yeah,
that's that's It's really interesting if that goes through. It's
like uh and and Adam Silver right now is probably
the most beloved of commissioners in professional sports, but he's
(01:03:28):
been so pro player. At some point he will have
to punish teams or sitting their star players. Will see
how that plays out. We mentioned Paul Molinagi is going
to join us. Of course, he's a two time world
champion boxer, works for Showtime, and this is really the
fight that fight fans boxing fans have really waited for,
way way more so than Mayweather McGregor, and they both
(01:03:51):
just waited in at a hundred sixty pounds. Paubly joins
us now on the Doug Gottlieb Show hundred sixty Does
it does this weight class favor either the either the fighters?
Hey guys, yeah, I think we hunt to fifty pounds. Um.
Probably you know, go Off has been that the wait
a long time, but Cannello seems to have a little
bit more of the way struggles. So um, I think
(01:04:13):
you can pick advantages for either guy about why one
sixty better is a better way place for for either guy?
You know. Um, at day the end, I think the
styles mashine and blending is is what really makes it
u exciting. Okay, in terms of machining and blending, what
are there what are there two styles and how do
they mesh blend? And they're both known as big punchers,
but they're both not reckless, you know. So I think
(01:04:34):
this fight is a bit more techarable than people will
realize because they're both very skilled fighters. At the same
time that the explosive kind of power that they have,
they have some highlight really kind of knockoffs between them,
and I think, uh, you know, there will be a
certain amount of respect for each other's power, but at
the same time, there will be a kind of go
for it approach by both guys where neither guys really
kind of got a tap dancers on the back foot. Really,
(01:04:56):
you know, they're both kind of guys that go for
it and try to get you out of there at
a certain point. So we all us the power of
each one. There will be respects for the other's power.
But and then they are they are great fundamental fighters.
But at day then these also guys that are going
to go for the ko and I think that will
be exciting. Polly mallinoalogy joining us in the doug Otlip Show.
Of course you saw him uh called the uh Colin
Mayweather McGregor fight on showtime? What's your showtime? Two time
(01:05:16):
world champion boxer kind of to join us here on
the doug Otlip Show. You can listen to his podcast,
Brooklyn to the World. You download that and learn everything
you need to know about the fight game. He's just
given us a small sample of it right here. Um, Okay,
if you were in the corner of Canelo and you're
going to pull off the upset, what what are the keys?
What would you tell Canello he needs to do? I
(01:05:39):
think Cannello has shown a lack of a job in
his career where I think he's gonna need it tonight,
you know, because the job and now we can protect you.
I think it will also offset uh Thellopkins power approach
lost a golofkin set ups uh and and his and
his uh. It will also keep pullofkin off of his rhythm.
You know at days inlfkin tax fundamentally sound. He's a
(01:05:59):
little bit let's have a lot of thinknelo, but he
uses Jeb very well ways to the day of the
fight shows that, I think and I one needs to
show that jeb an you think you only need to
show that Jeb and I need to show it in
the correct way. Um. A lot of times when I
think can at the Jeb down fights, I assume it
just doesn't look correct. It doesn't it doesn't look comfortable
and uh and honestly, if you use a Jeb the
wrong way against a good fight like like walk and
he'll make you pay for it by countering you over
(01:06:20):
the top of it or underneath. I think k I
one needs to use a jab the proper way. But
also at day then he needs to make a Loft
pay for using his own jab. And and and kind
of doesn't have the athletical ability to counter and uh
and and make you pay for some things that maybe
uh you don't do right. You know, locking has a
great Jeb, but sometimes he grows in the same way
too many times, so kind of looking offset that by
countering and and and and you know, making creating some
(01:06:42):
down and the JEB of the loft game, you know,
I think that JEM is important for both guys. Do
both is such a big puncious that you can't just
walk in the front door like that without walking into
a big shot and getting yourself hurt. So I think
entering behind the JEB is key, and both guys are
gonna need to use it. And I think it starts
with Canelo, because Canelo, the guy who was probably lesser
known for you having much of a jeb. Uh what
what about what about Triple g Um? Knowing what you
(01:07:05):
know about Canello, knowing what you know about Triple g
what would your advice for him be going into the fight?
I would say the same thing. You know he also
when heeds, he has the same here, he's up against
the same kind of thing work can I looks, is
strong enough to hurt him. So you don't just want
to try to walk in the front doors. Use the
jam but goalfkins you have sometimes he has gets a
little bit repetitive. He uses it a bit more consistently
than does Canello, but it gets a little bit repetitive
(01:07:25):
and the timing al he doesn't change. So you need
to be a little bit more creative with the JEB
and so that you know you're not being encountered off
like a lot of Like Kelbrook was countering go Offkin
a bit um on that on when he was using
his JEB. You know, you don't want to use your
JEB as a detrimental where using it the same way
and guy started geting timing of it, you know, so
I'd say he need definitely easy to use his JEB
as well, but change rhythms on it a little bit um.
(01:07:48):
I think the key is the body works for both
guys as well. I think both guys are terrific body punchers,
and I think both guys have done totor. If it
work to the body and gotten stopped just to the body,
I think that will be of the rated thing. But
entering behind the jab and not just going directly to
the body is important because again, you clean yourself at risk.
When you try to go with the body, you're you're
exposing your head a little bit more. And when you're
(01:08:10):
finding guys that are as big a pointed as these guys.
You don't want to take too many chances, but at
the same time you do want to be able to
vote for it. Polly moll anology joining US two time
world champion boxer works for Showtime. You can see just
how efficient he is in his analysis of the fight game. UM.
I've said this, but look, I my knowledge of boxing
(01:08:30):
pales in comparison to yours is not really close. But
in talking enough fight fans and fight efficionados, they said, yeah,
I could see like if I said Triple G currently
not the last decade, but currently is the best pound
for pound fighter in the world. Is that a crazy statement?
That's not a crazy statement. Um, you'd have some disagreements
about you know, some other names that could be torn
(01:08:51):
into into that spot as well. But I think you
have an argument. You know, I don't think it's a
far fresh to argument to say, go Offgin it could
be number one pound for pound. I think there's three
or four guys you can make a case or that
our number one comple Town and Games is one of them. Uh.
This fight. I also mentioned that one of the reasons
the Mayweather fight UH struggled to sell out or struggled
to fill up the arena was boxing fans and one
(01:09:12):
boxing fans will spend money, whereas mm A fans just
don't have that money. Boxing fans weren't weren't in on
it being a legitimate fight. This one feels different. This
one feels like the fight fans fight of the year.
Is that a crazy statement? Um? No, I think that's
actually a pretty clad assessment. You know, at the end
of the day, there was a little bit of of
(01:09:32):
a fraud type of thing in the air with maywella McGregor.
You know, Um, it was exciting for many other reasons
than it actually being a good fight, you know, MG.
Exciting for the reasons of the personality, the reasons of
different worlds coming together, a different fan basis, both guys
have a big fan base and all and so on
and so forth. But the fact that the competitiveness of
the fight. Only an idiot would have thought that fight
(01:09:53):
would have ever been competitive, you know, whole Pommic golfskin
is actually yes, the fight fans fight, and that they're
both explosive, they books come of the skill set and
they're both very very good fighters who are coming together
at a point where everybody wants to see him fight.
So at days end, from a fight perspective, this is
really a fight that is more for the for the
(01:10:13):
traditional fans, and he gets them excited. I like Golfkin,
I like go Offkin in the fight. Um, anything the
guy hits goes down. It's crazy, uh rare as you
see this kind of thing. I mean literally, you see
guys that are punchers and they say, all he hit you,
if he hits you, but literally, but not every single
time they hate you, do you go down? You know,
I've never seen a guy who literally every time you
land between shot the appoint and goes down. It's crazy.
(01:10:35):
Even if even though day Jacob's flight, you know what,
he was having trouble landing cleanly. When he did lane cleanly,
Jacobs land down. You know, Um, I just don't see
Canello having the defensive ability that Jacobs has, the athletic
ability that Jacobs has. So you know, I think at
Day's end, well, is it the fight walking up? What
does bring a certain threats to the table. I think
whatever the Lofkin hits he destroys, sort of like the
driving drag overline and Rocky four, And uh, I really
(01:10:57):
think once he's landing on Canello. It's gonna be great
stuff from Brooklyn to the World. Is the is the podcast,
which you can find on the Showtime app. Of course
you see him breaking down boxing for Showtime. He's always
kind enough to join us either on Fox Sports Radio
or Fox Sports Television. He's Polly Malin Nagi. Polly, thanks
so much for joining us. A no problem, and I'm
working tonight on CBS Sports met check out Mike Leaves
(01:11:19):
fight against un Quadrucke CBS Sports Net. I'm in Chicago
right now. It will be a funny, fiting fight like
the former noted in Football Player. So he's got quite
a backstory if you look at all, right, that'll be cool.
That's my old network, CBS Sports Network. Good guys over there,
of course, Uh, CBS Sports Network Showtime much the same,
and of course they shoot fights. It's a it's a
high quality, uh in terms of the production production value.
(01:11:42):
On CBS Sports Network, Paul mon Naji joining us. Yeah,
I'm about it all, but you music. I think I'll
end up watching it now, whether I end up paying
the money you or if I split it with some buddies,
or if I just go to like a sports bar
(01:12:03):
or something, but I'll end up watching it. What about you, Ramos?
Did you go most? I think Ramos did. I think
he just dropped the most deaf. It's uh, by the
way at six nine nine. If you don't do high deaf,
like who does that doesn't like who's gonna go like no,
I'm gonna go stand or deaf? Do you think that
(01:12:25):
they have to offer that given that there's probably some
people out there that don't have high definition TVs. There are,
I'm sure that I do they have to like, yeah,
I just it's one of those deals to where you're like,
but if you didn't, if you didn't offer you have
you have you ever have you watched anything in stan
You're like, how did we ever watch this? And yet
(01:12:46):
it was you know, it was the norm. I mean,
but my point is if you just don't offer it,
and you're you just make it one price point, couldn't
they just get away with that? I think they could.
That's what I mean by yeah, like like why do
you That's the whole thing. It's like, is that really
a decision to somebody like well, I'm gonna pay seventy
dollars for the fight? I won't pay eighty dollars to
(01:13:08):
actually see the fight. Do you have any standard of
TVs in your house? I do not. I do not either.
No I have a one. No, no, no, I don't.
But it's funny. I do have like one of I
have a flat screen that we're gonna put up outside. Um,
and my wife's like, you're gonna put it outside like
(01:13:30):
an outside TV. Was like, no, I've had it for
like seven or eight years. It's still an HDTV whatever. Um.
But even those ones are so heavy, like in compared now,
nothing is as heavy as the old TVs, right, the
old round back keys. Those were ridiculous, Seriously they were.
It looked big and heavy, and then if you ever
(01:13:50):
went to pick it up, you were like, I still can't.
I knew this was gonna be heavy, and it's even
heavier than I thought it was. I have a Samsung
TV that I bought a argut for three d bucks whatever.
And I don't know if you know this about these
these inexpensive stamus like TVs. Occasionally there's a problem with
the wiring where the power will go in or outer
in route, and it's like it's a big problem, and
(01:14:11):
it's apparently it's you can fix it if you know
what you're doing. But I don't know what I'm doing.
What's what's crazy. The craziest part about TVs are now
now that there these let that level TV is so inexpensive,
and wife's like, just throw it away. It costs. It
will cost two and fifty dollars to get the TV
and just buy a three TV. I'm trying to take
(01:14:33):
it back. I think I think they'll take it back.
I've had it for it. I don't think so, you
don't think, so we'll see. I'll report back or report back,
all right, Skip Bayless. Things that Shaun Watson could be
the next Michael Jordan's. We'll let him explain that. I'll
crush it next. Broadcasting live from the studios of Doug
(01:15:00):
Gotlive Show, Fox Sports Radio. Do Do Do Do, Doude
Dode dode do? I do like September, but it's not
as cool when you're in California. It's like the only
(01:15:20):
thing about California like California. The cool part is November
is a lot like September everywhere else, but September is
and I think part guys, of my of my sadness
over no one caring about the Indians is how much
I like playoff baseball. I love playoff basebook. But again,
playoff baseball is also made better on the East Coast.
(01:15:43):
It just is because outside it's like crisp coolier. You know,
they have to go to they go to their mouths
to warm out their hands. I love playoff baseball. I
also like and it's not because I work for Fox.
I used to say this when I work for ESPN ORCS, CBS.
I like the way that Fox specifically shoots all Basically,
do you understand that Fox shoots games differently than CBS
and ESPN? Do you guys know that? So? I hope
(01:16:06):
so I don't know, but I should hope they do.
Do you know what they one of the things they
do that that's that NBC, CBS and ESPN don't do.
I don't know those, uh those close ups, the close ups,
the facial reaction to close ups, like you just see
the kind of intensity and the look on guys faces. Um. Look,
they have some of some of their own tech, which
(01:16:27):
is different, but it's the they're they're known as they
do the close ups. And in baseball, it just works,
just works because the game is slow and you're watching
anybody you're trying to I love it. I love it.
I'm I'm so excited about playoff baseball. Um, and you
know the other thing that that's kind of getting a pass.
Have you seen this in the National League? Do you
(01:16:48):
realize that the Cubs might actually record wise have a
worse record than both of the wild card teams, both
Arizona and Colorado right now? Yeah, And it's one of
those things to where we think of the best playoff.
We're always trying to find the best playoff rules or whatever.
But I think about in Major League Baseball, which now
(01:17:09):
lets another team in as the wild card playing game.
I think by the fact that the Cubs are benefiting
from playing in the NL Central where they can have
a worse record than all of the top three teams
potentially in the NL West and still get in. And
oh yeah, by the way, you get a buy out
of the wild card. And now every day this time,
(01:17:34):
we'd like to play you a portion of one of
those shows on Fox Sports Radio. And Fox Sports Radio
has lots of extended branches. Right. Uh, First there is
Undisputed and first things. First two TV shows which you
can hear on Serious XM Channel eighty three. As you
can the first two hours of our show, there's also
Clay Travis's OutKick. The coverage is the Dan Patrick Show,
(01:17:56):
There's Rich Eisen Show, there's Colleg Cowherd show. There's been
Miler's show. There's even Jason Smith show and the Government
Brother Steve Gorman Sports who follows this show. There's a
lot to choose from, but I thought this from Undisputed
Skee Bayliss's show, Shannon Sharp and Joey Taylor, I thought
(01:18:23):
this was an interesting reaction to Deshaun Watson winning his
first start with the Houston Texans. You want to talk
about big game, big stage intangibles. You want to talk
about guts, toughness, resilience, leadership, intangibles, whatever all those things are. Again,
I'm not saying he has Michael Jordan's ability, which is coach,
(01:18:44):
remember the illusion that Babble made. But he does have
Michael Jordan's esque intangibles, and that's why they made a
great move, the best move of the draft, to go
from twenty up to twelve to take him. And that's
why Bill O'Brien made the worst move of the preseason.
He didn't just hand him the keys and say it's yours,
let's go take us for a ride. And I told you,
(01:19:06):
if that had happened, he could be this year's DAC.
He could do what Dad did last year because Dad could.
They couldn't help but give the keys to Doc when
Romo got hurt. Yeah, I think the problem is and
I do think both players, both Dac and Deshaun have
great on field intangibles. I think that's fair. I think
the problem is that we're there's there's a continuum there, right,
(01:19:27):
and on one side of continuing there's intangibles, but there
side there's tangibles, and everybody likes Deshaun Watson, and Deshaun
Watson lived up to and exceeded anyone's expectations when he
arrived as a five star at Clemson, even after the
knee injury, and then he ends up winning a national championship,
Like all of those things were remarkable. But what's the
(01:19:51):
truth of it is last year he had statistically a
disappointing year, and the reason was he was trying to
show everybody could run from the throw from the pocket
instead of running right. And the only thing that changes
in the playoffs in the semifinals and finals in the
championship was that he ran more. That they all right, listen,
forget about trying to prove to people you can throw
(01:20:12):
run more. And the reason that he wasn't great from
the pocket was he just battles with accuracy and he
battles with going through his progressions and that those are
tangible things, those are not intangibles. And I do I
think we're starting to understand the pattern that Skip Bayliss follows,
which is not a bad pattern, but it's the reason
(01:20:34):
that he loved Tim Tebow was Tebow had great intangibles,
incredible leadership, incredibly tough. Now Deshaun Watson has better feat
Tim Tebow was fast, but was not athletic in the pocket.
It's a mistake that people make all the time. It's like, um,
it's like, uh, what's the name of the kid? He
(01:20:56):
played at Arizona and then he's play He's a volleyball
players played I think in the Minnesota in the NBA.
Uh Chase Butttinger. Chase Butttinger is an Olympic level volleyball athlete.
Great jump, but he's not a great athlete because in basketball,
basketball athleticism is more about lateral speed, quickness, and also
(01:21:19):
about first step ability, whereas he has a good first step,
but not a great first step, and though when he jumps,
I mean he can put you in and dunk on you,
he doesn't do a lot of other athletic things, whereas
all around athleticism is far more rewarding than your vertical jump.
And that that's what Tim Tebow was. Team Tebow was fast,
but he was an athletic de Shaun Watson is more
(01:21:39):
athletic in the pocket. He is more refined than a
Tebow was. He does have a chance, but it's really
hard to make guys that struggle at times with accuracy
that pinpoint a more accurate We've see that with Cam.
I think that's the problem with Dak and I think
that'll be It's one of the things is that Russell
(01:22:00):
Wilson doesn't get credit for Wilson's tiny and he's learning
to be better in the pocket as he's had to
find ways to step up like Drew Brees steps up.
He's got a strong arm. But one thing Russell Wilson
is is deadly accurate, especially on the move, and that's
not what Cam is and that's not what Deck is,
and to this point, that's not what Deshaun Watson is.
So I agree with the idea that he's got great
(01:22:22):
and tangibles, but tangibles are equally important. You can't. I
will take the guy with intangibles with less tangibles, but
I will not take the guy with no changeables. That's
what the Fox said, Doug Alive Show, Fox Sports Radio. Uh.
(01:22:45):
Probably the breakthrough moment of the show today was Cooper
Cup telling us the real reason he was named Cooper.
Here we go, our parents had a dog named Cooper
when they had first gotten married, and the day that
my mom told my dad that she was pregnant, the
dog ran away and they never found it. And then
(01:23:06):
they end up named me Cooper. I was essentially named
after my parents first dogs. Well yeah, well listen, here's
what I didn't think of that I just thought of now,
Indiana Jones was named after the dog. We named the
dog Indiana. Remember that, so like, look, it's it's not
a bad thing. If if Indiana Jones can be named
(01:23:30):
after his dog, then Cooper Cup, damn it, he could
be named after his dog and his wife makes a
caulifliwer tacas mean case of qualify, we did not get
an invite. Now that didn't happen. I will give you
my thoughts on why the Cowboys Proncos game is fascinating.
I'll share it with you. I'm coming next. What up
(01:23:52):
it still gotta leave show Fox Sports Radio. Happy Friday
to you. I hope you like me. You're gonna have
an awesome weekend. I am just fired up. I love September.
October my favorite month of the year. Football games matter,
Basketball comes back, uh, and of course baseball gets to
(01:24:14):
absolute peak importance. Like we are, we are getting creeping,
really really close. October is the best sports month of
the year. You're like, oh, you're Basketballday March man, It's
like March is cool, but there's nothing else going on
in March. Right, You got this kind of confluence of
I have football, college and pro and the games are
really good and they matter, and plus like the NFL,
you don't even know what you have to October one, right, Um,
(01:24:36):
I have a little bit of basketball and I got baseball,
and baseball playoffs are awesome. Think about think about how
great baseball playoffs are so very very fired up for you.
But like I said, we don't know what we have.
And this time of year last year, we didn't know
that Dak Prescott was going to remain as the as
(01:24:59):
the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Right, We're just like,
well with Tommy went Tony, Romo goes back. And then
he kept winning and winning and winning and playing well
and being solid and and you know, Romo couldn't get healthy,
wasn't ready, He wasn't ready, And by the time he
was ready, it was too late. It was too late.
This weekend's really interesting because as much as Dak overachieved
(01:25:24):
based upon anybody's perception of who he could be. An
easy schedule last year, get a really good team, get
a really easy schedule, um, and that kind of ends
this weekend. Last year they opened up with the New
York Giants and then they went to Washington and beat
(01:25:48):
the Redskins. How good with the Redskins last year? Do
you remember what do you remember, John about the Redskins
last season? I know Kirk Cousins had a good season.
Did I want to say they finished up strong? Take
a guess over under a number of wins for the
Redskins last year under eight seven and one? Okay, so
(01:26:11):
they had they had tied, the kissed their sister. That's exactly,
wasn't it. They had an Arkansas But there you go.
Wasn't it kind of not to burn you, Ramos? But
wasn't it kind of the obvious the opposite? Wasn't it?
Like they had to win the last couple of games
to get in and they didn't. Um, what do you think, Ramos?
I think he's right. By the way, you just like, yeah,
(01:26:32):
you folded like a cheap town because I think I
think he's right. Is he right? Well, here's what happened.
They end up losing four of their last six. So
I was right, he was right. The Robbos was wrong
and right they did. They were the last team before
the Falcons to beat the Green Bay Packers. That's that's
(01:26:54):
that's there. That that is there. That is the trivia answer. Right,
they beat the jet They lost their first games out
of the shoot and then they ran one four in
a row. They actually end up winning I think six
out of out of out of us, six out of
eight with a with a tie in the middle. They
were six one and one in the middle of their season,
(01:27:14):
and then they faded dramatically down the stretch and they
just they had no running game at all by about
mid season. None but um okay. So anyway, last year
went on the road and his first big road win
was against the rival of the Washington Redskins. This year,
his first big road game is against the Denver Broncos.
(01:27:38):
Remember your schedule is part of it is you played
division to division, right, like um, they match up with
the the NFC East plays the NFC West, Right, that's one.
They played the NFC West, and they also play and
they play a miss mash mishmash of other games. So
(01:27:58):
I'll give you example. This year they played the Broncos
in the road. They play the Cardinals in the road,
and I don't think the Cardinals are very good. Oldest
team in the league. Rams at home, Packers at home.
Last year they played the Packers at home. Again, they
go to the Niners, to the Redskins, Chiefs at home,
at the Falcons at the Raiders, Seahawks at home. So
(01:28:19):
out of their divisional matchups, they got some very difficult
road games. Raiders likely playoff team, Falcons Fenning NFC champions
both on the road, Packers who split with them last
year at home, and they go to the devil Broncos
who were down last year. But is a tough place
(01:28:40):
to play. And the look the way in which the
way in which you could expose Dak Prescott has been
to put pressure on Dak Prescott when he throws the football. Right,
That's what the Eagles did, That's what the Giants did
last year. We'll see if the Broncos can do it
this year. But I it's it's it's this is the
(01:29:04):
conversation I had last year heading into the season, the
same one will have this year. There is the perception,
and it's that the Denver Broncos had to find a
replacement for Peyton Manning in order to get back to
the Super Bowl. Excuse me. The year the Payton Manning
won the Super Bowl, the hea threw nine touchdown seventeen
in receptions, could throw a football. He got replaced because
(01:29:26):
he was injured and they had brock Ostwalder, who was
actually much better. But they just felt like a bad
Payton at least gets us in the right play. Bad
brock Oswylder makes a game changing mistake. They went with Peyton.
They won a Super Bowl. So Trevor Simeon doesn't have
to even be great in order for them to win
(01:29:47):
if their defense is what it should be. And if
you watch their defense week one of the season, it's
really really good, and they can put pressure on you
without sending guys and uh, they reworked their offensive line.
I just I feel like this is a fascinating game,
a fascinating snapshot, especially because Doc was not good the
(01:30:09):
first week of the season. He's twenty four of thirty
nine or two sixty eight. He was inaccurate, he missed
some easy throws, and you can get away with those
against the Giants who had no offense. You can get
away with those against the Giants, who they got a
(01:30:29):
first down on every possession, they got at least one
first down. When you're on the road, it's totally different.
We're on the road against legit pass Rush's totally different.
And I think we can say a lot of things
about the Broncos. They got legit pass rush, right, they
got dudes who get after the pass. I think in
many ways, that's a more interesting game than the Falcons
Patriot Packers, even though the Falcons Packers is a rematch
(01:30:51):
of the NFC Championship game and the Packers are far
better than their defensive backfield, and the Falcons are officially
opening their new stadium. And then you got Louisville hosting
Clemson right which last year was a blowout until it wasn't,
(01:31:12):
and Deshaun Watson had to stomp out the Cardinals. And
this is one of those games where you would take
just about every other player on Clemson's roster ahead of
anybody in the same position on Louisville's roster, with one exception,
(01:31:34):
and in college football, that one exception from a college
football one guy can in fact win you a game.
The Gloville's defense is not good, offensive line is particularly good,
wide receives is pretty good. Head coach is pretty good,
pretty good at offense. But Lamar Lamar Jackson is he's
(01:31:57):
a video game, all right. And the thing about video
game video game quarterbacks, the Mike Vicks of the world.
U these are guys that are really good in video
games aren't really good in the NFL. But it doesn't
seem to matter. Do you see? Bill Polian said he
thinks he might be a wide receiver in the NFL.
(01:32:17):
I think he might be close to right, Um, he's small, inaccurate,
but man, is the athletic, and he throws some the
balls down field that are he throws a crazy ball downfield.
There's a lot of vic to how he plays a
lot of Mike vick Dal he plays um. But that's
(01:32:39):
like the fascinating game in college football. And the weird
thing is I do think that Louisville could win, and
if Louisville wins, they got a pretty clear path to
playing for an a a CC championship, and an a
CEC championship would probably put him in the playoff. But
I don't think they're anywhere close to these other teams
in terms of overall t talent. Don't think it's close.
(01:33:03):
Super Bowl champion Heath Evans joins the show up coming
next works for the NFL Network. I'll get his thoughts
on what the Patriots can do to former pass rush
and why Tom Brady is doing all these interviews, like now,
I don't have a concussion problem. Seems like by saying
he doesn't have a concussion problem, he's admitting you that
(01:33:23):
these the two teams this weekend are his former teams,
Saints and Patriots. They'll meet NOLA. That's up coming next.

Last week in college football picks upcoming in uh about
ten minutes here on the Doug Gotlip Show. Heath Evans
(01:35:14):
will join us in mere moments. Heath, of course works
with the NFL Network, former st former Patriot as well,
and he will join us on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Some games me more than others. And it's weird because
the game last night was only on the NFL Network.
I thought Montarco s Trico is great, it could be better. Uh,
(01:35:35):
Collinsworth is good as well, and it's funny that I
don't there isn't anyone else who does the analysis of
the analysts. So I'll do a little bit for you.
Like I tried to tell people that Tony Romo wasn't good.
He was okay, but it wasn't good because he didn't
(01:35:56):
the first time doing he didn't really know how to
do it. Did you notice I don't know if you've
noticed that Um, For example, the center for the Cincinnati Bengals,
the guy who got laid out the end of the game.
You see the play last play the game, they're doing
the laterals lateral lateral, lateral lateral, and the center for
(01:36:20):
the Cincinnati Bengals gets absolutely laid out by J. J. Watt.
And so what happened was I was thinking back to UM.
It's what's named Boding, right, Russell Boding. And there was
a port portion of the game earlier where Chris Collinsworth said,
(01:36:41):
you know, Russell Boding one of the strongest players in
the NFL, and he bench pressed forty two times at
the combine, etcetera, etcetera, And then he went into his story.
That's part of what it takes to be an analyst
in the NFL. You have to not just tell me
why something's happening, but give me perspective on who's doing it.
(01:37:01):
You have to do the work. And look, I thought
they did a good job in Tony Romo making him
look smart. And he knows what he's talking about. He
knows the other team, he knows that the defense and
the tendencies and watching the film, but doesn't really know
how to do it because in addition to that, he
has to provide us some context with who he's talking about,
what their strengths are, and why it happens. Like for
(01:37:24):
one of the it's one thing for Russell Body to
get laid out by J. J. Watt, it's the other
thing to go like, Oh, Russell Boding is one of
the strongest, toughest dudes in the NFL, six three o
eight center out of North Carolina. It's an other thing
when you find out that he's he bench pressed like
forty two times, even two times. But last night's game
(01:37:45):
is was actually more important than other games when you
do a standalone game in the NFL, Like that's what
happened to Jeff Fisher last year with Monday Night Football.
I know it was the second Monday Night Football game,
but the fact is it was the only game on TV.
Every aybody in the league is watching and people are
just blown away, like, wow, that is the worst offense
I've ever seen. And that's what happened with the Bengals.
(01:38:09):
The score popped up twenty to nothing against the Raven July. Wow,
that's boy. They didn't play well. Then you watch him
last night, You're like, well, they're just not good. And
they fired their offensive coordinator earlier day. That actually happened. Laser, Yeah,
Bill Laser. Laser. The Laser is their new offensive coordinator
(01:38:36):
formally or he's gonna call plays. He's formerly their quarterback coach.
He Devan's works for the NFL Network. You can follow
on Twitter at Heath Evans. You can see him on
NFL Total Access tonight at seven o'clock Eastern time. He
joins us now on the Doug gott Leaves Show. Uh,
it's the Heath Evans Bowl in New Orleans this weekend.
Oh boy. Yeah, the loyalties are definitely being tested for sure. Okay,
(01:38:57):
let's let's start with I mean, both bad, both coming
off losses. But people are freaking out about the Patriots.
Uh twofold one no pass rush, how do you fix that? Well,
I mean, revisionist history would say they've never had like that,
one dominant guy rushing the passer um, and they always
find a way to have one guy with ten, another
guy was six, and then a whole bunch of guys
(01:39:19):
with four, and some of those guys are even dbs,
you know, So that pass rush doesn't scare me as
much on defensive side of the ball as much as
all of the downright ugly, dysfunctional, unfundamentally sound defensive ball
that we saw, you know, um, all the edge rushing
that Kareem Hunt and the Chiefs were able to get
on them, But we just don't ever see those type
(01:39:40):
of exterior runs where they're just running around the corner untouched.
You know, those are worrisome, but a lot of them
are technique and and want to and I think Bill
as well well, actually more Brady than Bill. After the game,
Tommy's words were very pointed about just wanting to compete
more and having a different mindset, and so he must
have sent something that are seeing something about the week
(01:40:00):
of practice that was a little bit off that they
couldn't get corrected, and then it showed up in front
of the world last Thursday, night. Okay, So how easy
that correct to correct on the road? Um, Like, you know,
Saints weren't weren't great, they weren't even really competitive in Minnesota.
How how hard is that in terms of matchups to
do against the Saints? Well, it's Drew when it would
be kind of be similar to the how hard is
it to match up verse Brady? You know it's listen, Drew.
(01:40:23):
Drew is capable of going to put forty plus on
that defense that we saw last week in Week one
verse Minnesota. So, um, we saw the night that that
that Um. You know, Um, both these teams had and
there's there's there's times you just buried the tape, and honestly,
both those tapes probably just need to be buried. I
don't think when we get to the end of the year, UM,
(01:40:44):
people will have long forgotten Week one. And you know,
revisionist history would also say the Paths the last three
times they've they've lost on opening week, they've gone on
to Hoyster Lombardi that year. So, UM, we'll we'll see
how it goes. But but Drew can manipulate a defense
as good as anyone. Um. And if they're not locked in, UM,
and if they're not able to eliminate a run game
and you give Drew a run game, uh, they'll be trouble.
(01:41:07):
What about what about Drew? Uh? Drew does? They do
have those running backs, but they really struggled to get
it going against Minnesota. They're on the road. Minnesota is
a good defense. Uh, but I don't know. He feels
like to me, like getting him more running backs, it's
not what he needs. He needs better wide receivers, and
the obviously need more on the defensive side of the football.
Doesn't feel like mismatched parts In New Orleans, well, the
(01:41:29):
old line is worrisome. And honestly, you look across the league.
I mean the Giants old line, that's not a championship
old line. The Saints, um, you know, they struggled, and
I think you know, Drew has made superstars and made
you know, super Bowl runs with lesser wide receiver talent
than he has right now. Um, that's just the truth.
But you've got to be able to protect your quarterback.
(01:41:50):
And you know, I think the one thing that can
you know, make an offensive line look better than what
it is is a run game. Now, it's always hard
for me. The second guest Sean Payton because at the
end of the year every year his offenses one two
or three, scoring, total yards, passing, et cetera. So um,
it's um. I have my philosophies about how you stabilize
a team that has a bad defense. And it looks
(01:42:11):
like the Saints defense might be bad once again. It
needs to grow up in a hurry. Um. And when
you have a bad defense, UM, you better focus on
the run to keep the opposing team off the offensive
side of the field. I think we're gonna see that
from New England this week. I think there will be
a concerted effort to run the ball to keep Drew
off the field so their defense can play Drew Brees
for twenty seven minutes, twenty eight minutes instead of thirty two,
(01:42:33):
thirty three or thirty four. Keith Havans joining us in
the dug out, like show, what do you make of
so many teams having poorest offensive lines? Teams are built wrong.
You know, Um, you look at Atlanta two years ago.
I always say, you know, before Scott Peel we got there,
you had all these pretty bells and whistles. He had
a lot of unique weapons. I mean, um, from Julio
all the way down. Um, but when you can't protect
(01:42:55):
your quarterback, UM, they're of little value. And Scott Pioli
and Thomas Dimitrov got there on with d Q and
they started focusing on old line and d line and
then we saw that team grow at a rapid pace
last year. Um. The Giants are you know, a two
year old version of the Atlanta you know, uh Falcons.
You got a lot of weapons, um, and no old line,
So you can't really do a lot with him. O'Dell
(01:43:17):
will make that team better, UM, but but he's that's
not a that's not a championship contending team. UM unless
that offensive line improves a lot. So and I think
that's the one position to we've seen the impact in
the play just even the last two years with New England.
Dante Skarneckia comes back, UM, maybe the best old line
coach to ever coach, UM and makes a drastic difference
(01:43:38):
last year and year one being fresh offer retirement, and
you know, you know we'll start to see that teaching impact. Uh.
Click in again. I'm sure he Devin's our guests in
the Doug Outlant Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh,
Dak Prescott. Look, look, he's he seems to do all
the right things, but there is a lack of accuracy.
(01:44:01):
There's just he is not a pure pocket passer. He
is not that refined in his skill as of yet. Um,
And look, some of that you can some of that
is rust in first game, but some of it is
that's just who he is. What are your thoughts on Doc?
How he looked Week one And it was a dominated performance,
but it was more it was so much more about
their defense or the Giant's lack of offensive line than
(01:44:22):
it was anything the Cowboys did offensively. Yeah, I agree
with I think most of everything you just said, I
would maybe compare it to to Russell Um Wilson. You're
the I've always praised Pete and Darryll Bevil the you know,
the head coach and Seattle in the offensive coordinator, for
the growth track, that you know they kept Russell on
and that they were blessed with beast mode. Um, you know,
(01:44:44):
Dac honestly doesn't have beast mode. They're different type backs.
But Doc has a better offensive line than Russell Wilson
was ever afforded. So I just Doc does all the
right things mentally for me. I think a lot of
the physical stuff we we've seen him make, a lot
of the throws we've seen him, um, you know, manage
the game him in a way that you want from
such a young quarterback. So I think the growth track
for him eventually he'll pan out just fine. Um, It's
(01:45:06):
just always about where he's at now physically and mentally
as a quarterback. That run game has to be dominant,
and then that run game makes that defense so much better.
And then Rod Marinelli um just allows his defense to
tee off and kind of let him go hunt. And
that's where this team has to live to be successful.
What we saw from the Rams last week. Look, I've
everyone I know is said the cold stink. They got
(01:45:29):
terrible personnel and they were starting a guy that shouldn't
have been a starting quarterback. So much though that Jacobe
Brossett's gonna start from this week. All that said, Rams
actually look pretty good. But how much of that is
fool's gold because they're playing against the team that was
just at a talent disparity. Maybe we call it half
and half. I mean, I think you chalk up some
to emotion new new coach, Um. A lot of I
(01:45:51):
think a lot of excitement about all the internal changes
that these players that were there last year saw. You know,
Todd Gurley and I are good friends and in um,
you know, as soon as um, you know McVeigh um
hired Aaron Chrome or the aligne coach. You know, I
called t g on my Listen, buddy, you are in
for a treat. You know, you've got a great old
line coach that's gonna know how to scheme runs that
(01:46:13):
are gonna benefit you and your strengths, you know. And
so what we've seen the quarterback play obviously last year
it was it was atrocious and um, but that offense
was atrocious. So um it was a good start. But
but I do think that was a very deficient Colts team. Um.
You know, we'll see what uh Week two offers. I
mean this this Redskins Rams matchup, I think has um
(01:46:35):
there's a lot of connections between these two teams obviously
coaching wise, UM, and we'll we'll see, um if they
can continue putting the right foot forward, so to speak.
The the Falcons host the Green Bay Packers. Packers have
revamped their defensive backfield, isn't enough to slow down the
Falcons well after what we saw last week. Yeah, you know,
I I tried to warn people and it's still early.
(01:46:57):
I might be wrong. Um Shanahan lost calling plays with
Matt Ryan and all those weapons was huge. And it
was more so huge I think in play design in
the run game, and um, you know, there was a
lack of creativity I thought last week and and what
Atlanta put on tape in the run game much less
the pass game and the rhythm that you're O C
and in your quarterback and create when you have a
(01:47:18):
great quarterback like they do is very special. So we'll
see what Steve can get going this week as the
new O C. There. Um, But listen, Aaron, I did
this kind of tail of the tape the other day,
and in any way you want to skin it, you're
probably gonna give the advantage to the Atlanta team in
every way, shape or forms. You want to look at
running backs, you want to look at Olne, you want
to whatever you want to look at, you'll probably give
(01:47:38):
the advantage to Atlanta outside of of quarterback. And it's
a it's a tough matchup who you want to pick.
But Aaron is Aaron, and so you go with Aaron
but Aaron by himself is enough to win that game
by himself. So um, you give him a fresh defensive backfield.
Last year in the playoffs, they didn't have one healthy dB,
much less five or six. So I this will probably
be a much different game, uh um than what we
(01:48:00):
saw last year in the NFC Championship game. I tend
to agree with you how fixable is the Bengals offense?
But by changing just coordinators, you know, I got I
watched the game last night. I'm you know, we're going
on t a here at uh you know, seven Eastern.
I gotta go watch that game one more time. So
this is without ever watching you know, our our game
tape where I get to really dive into it. I
(01:48:22):
think it's much bigger than a than an O C.
I could be wrong, obviously, they've already made the change.
Um that might spur people on emotionally. Anytime someone gets fired.
If you're smart as a player, coach, um, you're gonna
dial in that much more mentally, physically, emotionally, because unless
you're a J Green, you could be next. And I
really do think that that's probably the only untouchable on
(01:48:42):
that team of of a guy that's just job security,
no matter what. Um. But it's it's it's a mess.
You know, they lose two guys on the old line
and uh free agency. Um and it's it's been what
I saw with my eyes last time in game speed
was atrocious. Yea, it was. It was really really bad.
You can think O. Heath Evans on the NFL networks
NFL Total Access tonight seven o'clock Eastern time, fall on
(01:49:04):
Twitter at Heat Evans take out that Heat Evans Bowl
as former teams the Patriots and the Saints playing against
each other. The winner gets to visit heat Devn's house.
They go to Heat Devon's house for dinner. He's great stuff, dude,
Thanks for catching up with us, Thanks for having me.
All right, let's quickly find out what Dan buyers got.
Who's got working. That's some news of Major League Baseball.
As you and Heath went heavy with the National Football League,
(01:49:26):
the Major League Baseball has handed down a fine to
the Boston Red Sox an undisclosed amount, though for stealing
signs of the New York Yankees using an Apple Watch
earlier this season. Cardinals needed all the tricks and they
still couldn't stop the Cubs. Chicago wins today eight to two,
as the Cubbies scored seven times in the sixth then
(01:49:46):
and Chris Bryant with a home run in that Chicago victory.
And golf Mark Leishman leads to the BMW Championship at
second round play at fourteen under Jason Day and Rickey
followed just one shot back. Our report from ESPN TES
legislation is being sent to the NBA Sport of Governors
that will reform the NBA draft lottery. The report adds
there's a proposal that will allow Commissioner Adam Silver to
find teams if they rest our players for national TV
(01:50:09):
games or do it for multiple games as well. The
proposal also encouraging teams that they are going to rest
players to do it at home and not on the road.
Now for some NFL news, the Chargers have announced that
single game tickets are available for their home opener against
the Dolphins on Sunday. Remember they're playing in the stub
Hub Center, which seats under thirty thousand. Chargers are gonna
be without corner Jason Barrett for Sunday's game against Miami.
(01:50:32):
He's out with a knee injury. NFL network says that
the Colts are gonna start to Kobe Brissett in their
game against the Cardinals. Colt said coach Chuck Pagano told
reporters today the final decision hasn't been made, but the
report says it's gonna be Brissette over Scott Tolzeen. Minnesota
Vikings reportedly concerned about quarterback Sam Bradford, who was limited
to practice this week Doug because of a knee injury,
but at coach Mike Zimmer says he expects Bradford to
(01:50:53):
start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. And what should be
one of the marquee games that we've got this weekend.
It should bat just twice torn as a c L.
So you've got to be cautious about about any sort
of any sort of knee injury. All right, last week
we had great, great college picks. We expect to have uh,
(01:51:14):
even better picks this week. Let's get after it. I
want winner. We got it five NFL five College five.
It's five for five with Doug Godli. Let's go five.
I watched Nebraska last week as uh they lost to
Oregon by a touchdown, and maybe it's that I'm like
(01:51:37):
Mike Riley. Maybe it's that I realized they're returning home
to play Northern Illinois, whom they're better than. Maybe it's
that I feel like they're Tanner Lee is coming around
as a starting quarterback. Maybe it's that Northern lost to
Boston College and their win is over Eastern Illinois. I
just I kind of think Nebraska. I thought Nebraska actually
showed me something. Granted, they struggled to keep up with
(01:51:58):
the absolute speed and talent of the Oregon Ducks. You
don't have that with Northern Iowa. It's a twelve point
spread played in Lincoln. Give me the Huskers. Duke just
blew out Northwestern. It was the Essa t Bowl. They've
taken on Baylor. Remember when we celebrated Baylor's or celebrated
(01:52:19):
Liberties win over Baylor and we're like, wow, what a
great win for Liberty. Do you want to happen the
next game for Baylor? They lost to U T. San Antonio.
Baylor is not good, they're very young. Duke is not great,
but very well coached. Playing at home. They just demolished Northwestern,
who's a good team from the Big Tent. What do
(01:52:40):
you think they're gonna do to Baylor, who's a bad
team from the Big twelve. Duke's laying fourteen points. Take
all of um. Um, I'm gonna go. I got some
other big lines here that I may I like that
other people seem to want to stay away from. I
will admit I'm in the bag for Oregon State. My
(01:53:03):
brother is a basketball coach there. But I've watched Organ
State play. They're beaten by Colorado State on the road.
They're beaten at home by Minnesota to fourteen. Now in
their fort in there pack twelve openers. They head to
the Polus to take on Wazoo, who had a miraculous comeback.
Miraculous comeback against Boise State to win at home. Uh luke, folks,
(01:53:28):
too good. They're playing at home. It's in the Polus
points more than anything. Organ State is not good. I'm
gonna take Wazoo minus twenty one. This is this is
one to which I I just wonder how big the
spread would have to be in order to get me
to bid anybody else I'll take. I'll take Wazoo. Are
I got a couple of upsets for him. Um, Let's
(01:53:51):
start with Mississippi State. Their Mississippi State is taken on L.
S U at home. We talked about this a little
bit earlier. I don't know if I like him to win,
but a lightning the cover. I'll take Mississippi State seven
and a half point, favorite run pass threat at quarterback.
Take it on L. S U, who was dominant against B.
(01:54:13):
Y U. But it was such a talent disparity. I
don't think you have that talent disparity with what Dan
Mullin has been able to recruit in stark starkful. I'll
take Mississippi State seven and a half of the SEC
home opener. Give me the dogs. Last pick. I gotta
pick the big game of the weekend, Clemson laying three
(01:54:33):
on the road at Louisville, and I think the hesitance
for everybody is, hey, last year, Florida State went in
there and just got blasted, absolutely blasted. The one thing
about this Clemson team is there's a there's a culture
of winning these games. And they hopped out to a
big lead last year. And yes they had Deshaun Watson
and no they don't, but they have so much talent
(01:54:55):
on that defensive front. Every analyst I have talked to
about this game like the battle is the defensive front
is so deep, so fast, and so good for Clemson
going against a very average at best offensive line and
Lamar Jackson running around back there, I'm gonna take Clemson
overall talent versus one guy. I know it's on the road,
(01:55:15):
Clemson lane three. I'll take Clemson. So the five for
college Notre Dame a sum I didn't say Notre Uh, Nebraska, Wazoo, Clemson,
Mississippi State, Duke is that five? That's five? Right? Right,
Let's get let's get to the pros. You heard Sam
(01:55:35):
Bradford has got a bit of a gimpy knee. They
are also six and a half point dogs in Pittsburgh.
Anybody see Pittsburgh play last week? Okay, right, Like I
think Leban will be better than he was last week.
I don't think Antonio Brown will be as down as
he was last week. And I think the Vikings have
a defense that travels. I think an offense that's solid.
(01:55:56):
They have quality tight end play with Kyle Rudolph. They
have a big timelidercy Eiver with Stevon Diggs. They got
an outstanding young running back as well with Dalvin Cook.
I think they got enough weapons. Where this is a
close game doesn't mean Pittsburgh loses the game. I just
don't think they went by a touchdown. If you want
to wait and see if it goes to seven, as
long as Bradford's plan, I really like the Vikings to cover,
(01:56:20):
if not to win, Vikings plus six give it to me.
I haven't seen Tampa, but you guys know how I
feel about teams that are on hard knocks, right, I
fall in love with them. I'm in love with this
Tampa team because I watch hard knocks. To me, um,
they also are coming off of a bye week. Remember
they're not bye week, but they didn't play because of
(01:56:40):
the hurricane, and so they're at home. They're completely arrested,
and though they may not be sharp now, the places
that usually jumps up and get you is in special
teams more than anything, sometimes blocking and technically taking on
Chicago team whose quarterback by their former quarterback Mike Glennon
used to be the starting quarterback with Tampa Buccaneers last
year with the backup quarterback with the Tampai Buccaneers. I
(01:57:02):
thought Chicago kind of overachieved last week. I really did.
I thought Glennan played pretty well and they lose seventeen
at home to the Falcons. Rode a very different story,
and I think this Buccaneers team is one that will
challenge for the NFC South. I like the Buckos. They're
they're given six and a half means they win by
a touchdown of more. That doesn't make me nervous at all. Uh,
(01:57:23):
Denver at home as an underdog. You know, San Diego
ran the ball well for them for like a quarter
and a half and then couldn't run the ball at
all against them. There is a Cowboys team with a
better running game than the than the standing of Chargers,
better offensive line, but still the idea is a smaller
defensive line that's speed, you're ready to get aft to
the quarterback. They seem to find a way to uh
to clog up those holes. I like Denver to win
(01:57:46):
outright at home as two and a half point underdogs. Uh.
Other pick that's underdog pick San Francisco for the Niners
are thirteen and a half point dogs to the Seattle Seahawks.
I just don't think the Seahawks have the the offensive
line where they're gonna score twenty points and uh and
(01:58:08):
and hold the old the Niners off. The Niners aren't
very good. Seahawks are pretty good. Seahawks defense is dynamic,
but their offensive line just stinks and that that limits
their ability to anything else. Sunday Night Football. I said
this on Cowherd Show. Packers are a three point dog.
I know everybody thinks you're head into Atlanta, your head
into the the wolf's den. Atlanta didn't blow me away
(01:58:29):
last week against the against Chicago Bears. And I'll grant
you there's some energy to be an NFCY champions, returning home,
opening up your new stadium in the regular season. But
that stadium, like so many other new stadiums, it's big,
it lacks personality, it lacks sound. And the Packers have
gotten better and the Packers are healthy. I'll take the
Packers just three point dogs, and those are there. It
(01:58:51):
is five NFL Let's college five for five with Doug Godley,
a team I was really impressed. Within Week one might
be getting some really bad news. We got details for you.
We'll share them with you. Next. What True Car. You
can find out what other people in your area paid
for the same car you're looking for, new or used.

(01:59:15):
So Clay Travis said two things. He believes in boobs
in the first Amendment, and Brook Baldwin wouldn't even say boobs.
She's like, did you say b o O b as like,
it's not a bad boobs are not a bad word.
It's actually because kids were watching, so she wanted to
make sure that. Trust me, if your kids are watching
CNN in the middle of the day, you've got a
(01:59:35):
lot more problems than the word boobs. Boobs. Boobs is
not a bad word. I'm not sure. I know, I
know that's something that Clay says on his radio show
and writes, uh, And I'm not sure that it was
maybe the forum because it it became more about him
saying boobs than it did about the content of what
he was what he was crushing about. Um, but I
(01:59:59):
don't booms is a bad word, do you? Well? The
country doesn't know because we just dumped everything you said. No,
I'm just kidding, all right, you're not you did not,
really we did. We did not. I said balls yesterday
and people did like Ron was like, you can say balls,
do you use the balls? Who knows what they you know. Uh. Anyway,
(02:00:23):
let's get to the press. The press, m what do
you got there for me? You you started with this?
(02:00:45):
Why not ended Bengals today firing Ken's ampez for um
reasons that we saw in week one and week two.
The offense is you have to score a touchdown. That
means quarterbacks. Coach, you're ready, Bill, there you go. It's
gonna take over four. Yes, their new offense is gonna
be called liquid hot Magma. Bengals went owen to at home.
(02:01:08):
They've only got six home games the rest of the way. Yeah,
it's gonna be an uphill closse. Minnesota Vikings reportedly concerned
about quarterback Sam Bradford. ESPN says that the quarterback headed
m R I Tuesday on his knee, swelling at discomfort
in that knee. But coach Mike Zimmer says he expects
Bradford to start this Sunday against Pittsburgh football guy, football player, right, Yes,
I expected to start. Like, shouldn't be fine? Take a
(02:01:31):
shot for a guy who's had, you know, multiple knee
surgeries and Teddy Bridgewater is still not healthy. Do you
know who the backup is for the missile of Vikings?
Do not look it up. Oh gosh, yes, case keeno,
he's keenom. Nice work out of you, nice work, thank you.
And the NFL Network reports a report says the Colts
are gonna start to Kobe Brissette and their games Sunday
(02:01:52):
against the Cardinals now called, said coach Chuck Bagano. Guys
keeping it close to the vest I don't want to
tip off the Cardinals or anything on the starter. Maybe
you know so they I'm sure they're planning for Brissette
and Tolzine, but it's likely going to be Brissette Sunday
against Arizona. Toine was terrible. Brissette's a different kind of terrible,
but at least he can run. At least he can
(02:02:12):
run for his life. Keep those cards close. Don't show
anybody what you may be doing. The NFL Network listed
finds that were handed out in Week one of the
NFL season. Saint safety Kenny Vicaro over twenty four thousand
dollars for his hit to the head of Vikings white out,
Stefon Diggs digs a little uh letter on the wallets
six thousand dollars for punting a ball in the stands
(02:02:33):
and Chiefs tight end at Travis Kelsey speaking of balls,
I'll put I was find twelve thousand dollars for putting
the ball in Kyle Van Noise groin and that Thursday night. No,
it wasn't that much. By the way, Tyreek Kill not
find at all for the deuces sign that he threw
up in that week one win against the Page suspended
next year for domestic violence back when he's in college.
(02:02:55):
That's about how quickly the NFL gets around to it.
Fox Sports Major League Baseball in center John Rosie says
the Red Sox are being fined by Major League Baseball
for stealing signs using an Apple Watch. Find's gonna be
an undisclosed amount. But Ken Rosenthal chimed in on the story,
saying that if this happens again, the fine could be
more substantial, saying the Red Sox front office didn't know
(02:03:16):
about it, and neither did Red Sox skipper John Farrell.
But the Red Sox, uh, yes, being fine today for
stealing those Yankees, So I love they're find an undisclosed amount,
Like you know, they should do a novelty check. I mean, yeah, yeah,
the uh knowledge check. We're disappearing ink, that's funny. The
(02:03:36):
Apple Watch thing though, like I have an Apple Watch
highly functional, which you know that's um and you said that,
you know, they have a new Apple Watch coming out
that has you don't need a cell phone with, right,
So it's like a watch, only smaller. You can't see
it as much and doesn't stores and much information. Where
do I sign up for? But they have that new
Apple iPhone coming out which is a thousand bucks which
all you have to do is look at it. It's
(02:03:57):
got like some technology where you look at it, you
can open it. You guys see that yeah face for
recognition or whatever. Yeah, it sounds crazy, but listen my
birthdays January fift if you guys will chip in again
from Martin's of course, Save the Best for last. A
champion greyhound in Ireland. It's tested positive for cocaine. Yes,
(02:04:19):
following a first place finish at the Irish Laurels Dry.
Three separate tests indicated cocaine in the dog system. Its
owner claims the dog ingested it accidentally. So I know
it sounds awful to give the dog cocaine of the race,
but yes, right music, does that mean the owner has
(02:04:41):
actually got to be really upset that the dog probably
ate his cocaine. That's probably Oh I hate that dog,
take my coke baging out there and pressed. That was
the press. You know. That's the problem with rescuing greyhounds, right,
like have you seen those greyhound rescues, because the greyhounds
out there, you know, is not only are they used
(02:05:01):
to running and sprinting and they're not really trained whatever,
but they a lot of them have bad coke habits.
How did they get the dog to stop, That's what
I'm wondering, or run straight? They just run fast? Has
run fast? All right? Quickly? You got any upsets this weekend?
Buyer um, I do not upsets. I like Virginia Tech
(02:05:24):
to cover against East Carolina. Well, East Carolina is terrible.
Like that they are they are. East Carolina is terrible.
Although it's at home. Have a great sports weekend. Be safe,
