on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
All Right, here we go and a Loaded Tuesday live
in Los Angeles. It's the Herd wherever you may be
and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us
part of your date. Joel Klatt in an hour from now,
all the big ten predictions are coming out. Mark Sanchez
stops by as well. Jmak I come in with energy,
I come in peace, I come with energy today fundraising
(00:49):
for our show and Kamala Harris appear to be in
the right direction fundraising references right out the gate, injected
with big, big money. Hey you want to funny, Sae
says story real quick. Yeah. So I was in the
airport in Netherlands and some ladies bring a Mark Sanchez jersey,
Mark Sanchiz jersey. So I texted Satia. Check out this picture.
He's like, I'll stop five. He was in like Switzerland
(01:11):
or something. Hopefully, hopefully you didn't harass the young lady.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I did not.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Oh, speaking of Jets, Hassan Reddick, who they got from Philadelphia,
defensive end, good player, veteran, kind of expensive. It's official.
He's not showing up to camp. When they made this
trade for a third round pick, they didn't have this
part figured out. They didn'tive him a new deal. What's
going on here? It's July twenty third. I'll repeat, it's
(01:38):
July twenty third. Camps are open now. Aaron Rodgers has
already missed a mandatory mini camp. Hassan Reddick's a no show.
There's been a story leak that Arthur Smith was gonna
get hired to baby sit their offensive play Colernette Hackett
and oh, by the way, in march, Woody Johnson and
Robert Sala at the NFL meetings apparently got awkward and
uncomfortable and shouting at each other. But yeah, they're gonna
(02:00):
win the super Bowl. Okay. Last season's top sack leader,
Bryce Huff Oh yeah, he's in Philadelphia too. There are
two ways and no fan even in New York, even
a Jets fan would acknowledge this is a dysfunctional franchise.
That's not arguable. Put down the pomp pomps, that's not arguable.
(02:23):
The two ways to right the ship with a dysfunctional
franchise are nail the head coach and get a rising
star at quarterback that you don't have to pay so
you can build around him. That's what the Rams did
with McMahan Goff, the Texans are doing with c. J.
Stroud and Demiko Ryans. That's what the Bills did with
(02:43):
Sean McDermott Josh Allen, or the Bengals with Zach Taylor
and Joe Burrow. Miami actually did it with Mike McDaniel
and two us still in a rookie contract. So you
can go by great players defensive ends, rush hands, corners Hill.
That's how you right the ship when you have a
(03:05):
dysfunctional franchise, Hit on a rising star at quarterback that
hopefully you don't have to pay for four or five years,
and get the head coach right. So what are the Jets?
A forty year old quarterback off a major surgery that's
expensive and they had to give up excellent picks to
get and a head coach that's lost two of his
(03:28):
three games he's coached in the NFL. Oh yeah, an
impulsive owner. This idea that the Jets are a super
Bowl team eight nine tops, We've already got Hassan Reddick drama,
Nat Hackett drama, Aaron Rodgers drama. It's July twenty third. Listen.
(03:48):
You can go and give up big time money like
the Rams did to get Matt Stafford, but you had,
let's be honest, the richest owner, and maybe he probably
the best young coach in the sport. So you can
take a swing on an older quarterback, but he's got
(04:09):
to be great. And Matt Stafford still was when they
got it. If you go to Aaron Rodgers last thirteen
games in Green Bay, he was five and eight. Stafford
to the Rams was a better quarterback than what the
Jets got with Aaron Rodgers, who's not as committed as Stafford, Mahomes,
Alan Brady or Lamar at this point in his career.
(04:32):
So basically, the Jets, they're just putting a fresh cone
of paint on the same old issues. Crazy owner, not
sure if they had the right coach and quarterback drama.
That's all this is. And the sports media, which tends
to fall in love with coastal, big market teams, loves
the Jets. It's an eight win team, forty year old
(04:53):
quarterback coach were not sure as a head coach, was
a really good coordinator. That's what they are. In fact,
I'd argue Robert Sala wasn't even the best defensive coordinator
the Niners had. Demiko Ryans was better. And I'm not
anti Sala. I think he's built a good culture. I
think he coaches with passion. I think his teams play hard.
(05:16):
But this idea with Hassan Reddick now not showing up
that anything has changed here. It's just a fresh coda
paint on all the same old issues. So if you
watched any of the USA Germany game yesterday, it is
a remarkable that Lebron's this good now best player on
the team. But what's discouraging if you're a Laker fan
(05:40):
is the two best players on the team are both Lakers.
If you look after all these five exhibitions at the
key statistical categories, Lebron and Anthony Davis lead in all
of them, points, assists, rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage
(06:02):
they lead in all of them. They are clearly the
two best players on this team, so Lebron and ad
Clutch sports Rich Paul got him to join in LA
and they have more than delivered. But the rest of
the roster is random, forgettable guys and one kid undrafted
(06:23):
who everybody likes but is limited, Austin Reeves. If you
start going around to the top teams in the NBA
and looking at their third best player, again, the Lakers
is Austin Reeves. The Celtics have four guys on this
Olympic team, and that doesn't include Jalen Brown, who's the
sixers third best player, Perennial All Star Paul George or
(06:44):
twenty six points a game, Tyrese Maxi, Oklahoma City's third
best player, Jalen Williams, an elite defender who averages nineteen
a game and shoots forty three percent beyond the arc.
Who's Denver's third best player, high school prodigy Michael Porter
six ' ten, excellent defender seventeen and seven and a
(07:06):
good three point shooter. If you look over the last
five and six years at the championship teams in the NBA,
It's not just been their stars, it's been their depth.
The Celtics depth, what is Derek White their fourth or
fifth best player? Denver's depth KCP was their fifth or
sixth best player. Milwaukee pre Dame Warriors when Wiggins, when
(07:33):
Andrew Andrew Wiggins, a cast off from Minnesota, had a
huge final. The Lakers are Lebron and Ad a guy
everybody likes, undrafted Austin Reeves, and forgettable random guys with
some length. That's what this Olympics is to me. Man,
(07:54):
have the Lakers mismanaged this roster? It's almost like Rob
Pulink and the guys upstairs went to the grocery store
and they got steak and lobster tail. But they've got
four kids at home with mouse defeat, and by the
second night they don't have any more groceries. They can't
afford them. The Westbrook deal was an abject disaster. Lebron
apparently wanted that, but he's not gonna take the hit.
(08:17):
And again, Lebron and Ad I got no complaints. Ad
Early in Los Angeles I thought was soft. Not anymore.
He's a rugged, physical, dominant defender and has looked great
in these Olympics. But Lebron's career and you're seeing it
still at thirty nine years old. He elevates everybody. So
what does it tell you about the Lakers roster? When
(08:38):
Lebron James, I mean j R. Smith, the league was
over him, Matthew Delavadova in a finals, Shane Battier got
really good, really fast, old you Donnas Haslam. Lebron elevates everybody.
And that said, the third best player for the Lakers
is an undrafted guard who averages about fifteen a game.
(09:02):
This roster in LA is worse than you think. If
Lebron can't win a playoff series and is struggling now
in the last two years to win a game in
the playoff series. The Olympic thing, if you're a Laker fan,
is discouraging. It's great for the Olympic team, it's discouraging
if you're a Laker fan. All right, So I saw
(09:26):
something yesterday and you know, fan is short for fanatic.
And when we had COVID and there were no fans
in the stands or limited fans in the stands, TV
just didn't it didn't look as good, it didn't feel
as good. I mean, you could do the fake stuff
in the bubble in Orlando in the NBA, but I'm sorry,
(09:47):
you could change the camera. Angles. Fans matter. They are
the juice, they are the B twelve shot to sports.
But because of that fandom they're they're not always terribly
objective until this survey that is jaw droppingly realistic from
(10:09):
one of the biggest sports fan bases in America. I
can't believe. I mean, in politics, nobody can look in
the mirror, either side RS or d's. They can't look
in the mirror. The Dallas Cowboys fan base is officially
the most honest fan base in America, and I couldn't
(10:31):
believe their answers to this survey that is next.
Speaker 2 (10:35):

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Okay, so we got into this discussion yesterday, and I've
said this before. Timing and talent have a lot to
do with how quarterbacks get paid. At any point based
on when you signed your contract. Ah Patrick Mahomes can
be the sixth highest paid quarterback and Kirk Cousins could
be the highest. But if I was a general manager
(11:06):
and or you were, and we paid quarterbacks on what
they should make in terms of winning, production, health, the
ability to elevate others. I made a list yesterday and
I think it comes into three tiers. This is how
I think the quarterback should be paid in order, based
on four or five factors. A big one is health.
(11:29):
You got to be available. A second one is you know, winning,
and a lot of that's regular season. Are you productive consistently?
And the other thing is do you elevate others? If
others elevate you, you don't make my list. A lot
of quarterbacks. I would say brock Purty is elevated by
(11:50):
the coach and the roster. There's no proof he's elevating
Garoppolo got to a Super Bowl and lost that. Brock
Purty to this point hasn't done anything Garoppolo didn't do.
Do you elevate your franchise, your coach, your team, your receivers.
That's what we saw CJ. Stroud do. We're like, Wow,
he's elevating others. My argument always been Dak is elevated
(12:10):
by others. The more Dak reliant the Cowboys have become,
the more he throws forty times or more. They have
a bad record. So this is do you elevate others?
Are you productive? Do you win? Are you healthy? And
here's the order I would pay quarterbacks. It's not the
ten best, it is how I would pay them based
(12:31):
on my ramifications. Number one would be Patrick Mahomes. Four
super Bowls in five years. He just won a Super
Bowl back to back where his leading receivers were Rashi
Rice and Jujusmith Schuster. He is without question the best
and should be highest paid quarterback in the league. Number
(12:53):
two somebody who hasn't missed a game since his rookie season.
Josh Allen fifty one total touchdown last year led the
NFL ten more than any other quarterback ten more. Number
three and this is the next four. I believe the
(13:14):
first two are on a different level. The next four
are quarterbacks I like, but they have a flaw. Lamar
Jackson I worry that he can't win in the postseason,
but I would make him number three. He has the
second highest winning percentage in this league, behind only Mahomes,
and he is without question the best dual threat quarterback
(13:36):
in league history. Number four, I worry about his age
but Matt Stafford maybe has the second best arm in
the league. He is probably in terms of ability two
minute drill to run an offense as good as anybody
including Brady maybe with the exception of Brady, a great
(13:59):
to minute quarterback, great arm, silly arm, talent, excellent leader,
academic at the Linus scrimmage, but the ability to add
lib in the touchdown. Number five, big concerns about his health.
Joe Burrow highest completion percentage in league history. Offensive line
(14:20):
and injury histories worry me, but I feel like he
is the one quarterback in the league that can go
toe to toe with Mahomes and equal him in accuracy
and efficiency help the big concern. And finally, Jared Goff
doesn't miss games. Oh, by the way, led the NFL
last year in passing yards including the playoffs fifty four hundred.
(14:43):
He led the sad sack Detroit Lions to their first
NFC championship in thirty three years. But he's not mobile
strictly a pocket quarterback. The final four would be in
my third category, rising Stars. Not everything's perfect yet. I
(15:03):
think we'll have answers and results after this year. Number
one justin Herbert first quarterback in league history to begin
his career without much support on the old line with
three straight four thousand yard passing seasons. Number eight CJ. Stroud.
I know it's one year. The kid's accuracy, poise and
(15:25):
ball placement is insane. First player in league history with
over four thousand yards passing end up passer rating over
one hundred as a rookie. I don't think he's got
a lot of mobility. His compos always goff, but he's
got more than Jared. The kid had a remarkable rookie year.
(15:46):
Next up, Jordan Love Week ten on, behind a young
old line and the youngest group of receivers and tight ends,
was the best statistical quarterback in the league. I know
it's only been eight weeks, but what I saw in
eight weeks was a guy that walked into Dallas and
was significantly more accurate, more athletic, and more poised than
(16:09):
Dak Prescott. He's number nine and ten. I worry about
the turnovers, but he was the best high school and
college quarterback, and he got this team of playoff win
throughout dysfunction. Trevor Lawrence three different head coaches already with
(16:30):
the Jaguars, A bit of a mess back to back
four thousand yard passing seasons. This is his best roster yet, tall,
good arm, mobility. Trevor Lawrence at ten. So these if
I was GM, this is the order in which these
(16:51):
would be the ten highest paid players. Mahomes and Allen
are superstars, Lamar Stafford, Burrough Goff great quarterbacks with a
concern or a flaw. And Tier three Herbert Stroud, Love
and Lawrence rising stars who I think by the end
of this season there will be no argument they should
(17:12):
be top ten in compensation. Jalen Hurts, for the record,
was number eleven, but he's had one great year with
a coordinator who's now a head coach. Dak I had
at twelve.
Speaker 2 (17:26):

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, you blob this lame and me.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Of all time.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
All right, boy, we love having them on. You can
sense one football season is back. When Mark Sanchez joins
the show. Ten years in the NFL, Fox Sports Analyst
say nothing, listen good, See I was saying this what
a good assignment? Like, when did you know when? I
(18:54):
don't know how it works here? Right during the course
of the week, you do a game, you fly home,
do you learn in like an hour what your game is?
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Do you know where you're going depending? Oh that's funny.
I need to be wise with my words.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Here.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
We get.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
It's slated every week, right, the A crew is going
to get the A game. Well, those games sure get
toggled back and forth between networks and some games get
flex whatever. So usually at the beginning of the season,
you know your first right now where Titans at Bear?
So we know our opening game, and then pretty soon
here we'll probably get the next three because those first
four weeks of the season there's no real bad game.
(19:33):
Everything's kind of up for grabs. We're still trying to
figure everybody out, understand their identity, and then okay, where
do we want to play these games? And then we'll know,
hopefully after the game we're calling at the latest the
latest I've ever gotten. It was also like the year
after COVID, things were pretty hectic. I think we ended
up calling a game on Tuesday and didn't know the
(19:53):
next game until like that night, so that one, it's
rare it ever happens like that. They do a great
job of giving us, you know, as much lee and
lead time as possible to study, but it gets a
little hectic, especially the last few weeks of the season
when flexing starts, and you know, it's it's it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
What's interesting. You get the Bears hosting the Titans. But
what's fascinating about the game is not just Chicago. No, Levis,
this is his career. Now, he gets a new offensive coordinator.
They've made serious upgrades at receiver. So this sort of
defensive led Tennessee team, No, they're not the same thing.
So whereas Caleb will be the star, yep, Tennessee is
(20:33):
a fascinating team now, so you got it.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
Yeah, it's a fascinating Tennessee team with a new look identity. Right, No,
Derrick Henry defense, are we a defensive identified he no,
not really anymore, not with coach Callahan. That's an offensive guy.
So what does that look like? And we'll dive into that,
I'm sure for that opening game, but I know you
wanted to talk about Caleb.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
What what is rookies or rookies? The game's faster until
you're I mean any The other thing, Mark is you
grew up. You entered the NFL where starters played in
the preseason, right, so you got a little game speed. Sure,
that's not really the way it works anymore.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
And it's not quite the game speed of a regular
season game, which isn't quite the game speed of a
playoff game.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
So he's going to have just a crash. Course.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
I'm trying to figure everything out that thinks he has
going for him, though. I mean, there's a laundry list
of positives going into the season other than just his
talent and ability, what they did around him, not just
the players they got, but the types of players a
Keenan Allen, you know, similar to when I was with
the Jets. I can equate a player like that as
(21:41):
a Jericho Katrie, where he is like, you're dependable, third down,
thousand yards a year kind of guy like he is
just going to be mister reliable for you, you know
what I mean. They have another guy like that in
Marcedes Lewis in the tight end room helping Cole Comett
and Gerald Everett, so there's more targets. Then you add
a guy like DeAndre Swift who's used to playing running
back by committee. I mean, this thing is starting to
(22:02):
look good. You got right at right tackle, you're figuring
out the center position. But you have some real pieces
on offense. And with a coordinator like Shane Waldron. Right,
he took Geno Smith up to his completion percentage. I
mean just knocked it out of the park with Gino
his first year as a starter. Well, he's going to
have something like that in Caleb. And part of it
(22:23):
is when do you let him be superman and go
to the telephone booth? Right, We've had that discussion here
before with Caleb in the offseason, talking about his ability
and win. Is it time to just play ball? I
think adding all of those targets around him, and don't
forget I left out Dj Moore.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
That wasn't on purpose, but the guy.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Yeah, And they drafted Rome, so you're expecting that to
be an explosive player. You have another one in Keenan Allen,
who's going to have fresh legs because DJ Moore and
maybe Rome kind of start most of the maybe he
gets a little less naps than them, but he comes
in in crucial situations.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
So DJ Moore was like forty percent of their offense
last year.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
So and that was with Tyson Bagent and Justin Fields.
So this is set up for immediate success. They don't
play a division. The thing working against them is that
their division is so strong. Well, they don't play a
division game till week eleven. You've made that point. So
I mean, what if they just started out seven and two?
Speaker 3 (23:17):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
It's not an off the wall prediction. Plus, you can't
forget I mean, I think Eberflu saved his job last
year by the way that defense performed down the stretch. Yes,
adding Montes sweat shirt up their defensive line. They have
two studs and Edmonds and Edwards at linebacker, and then
in the back end they have three capable cornerbacks. You
got guys who played eight hundred plus snaps together.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
This kind of thing is really going to start to
take form and take shape. Jalen Johnson's stud player. So
it's like, man, there's a lot. It feels more like
the Jets year two for me twenty ten with you know,
you bring in Ladani and Thomas and you have Sean Green,
Jericho Coawtrey Brayln Edwards, Antonio Holmes, Dustin Killer at tight end,
Like there's guys everywhere you look. They might not be
(24:03):
top five at their position, but they're at least top
half of the league. And then the defense, two stud
linebackers they don't have obviously Durell Reeves, but great defensive
backs and a system that they all know. Back to
the Shane Waldron point and we'll wrap it up. But
when do you let them be superman? And when do
you keep them within the confines? Up the offense, because
that's going to be, you know, feeling that part of
(24:27):
the game. I think he's going to have that part
of his call sheet that has the quick completions, quick answers,
quick game, the stuff he knocked out of the park
with Gino. That's going to be long because if at
any point Caleb misses three in a row, hey, let's
get him two completions in a row. Let's get our
quarterback back and get him distributing the football the way
we know how we can and let's do it easy.
Let's give him an easy completion. So I think they're
(24:48):
prime to employees that have an amazing year. I'm happy
to kick off the season with them.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Oh, I think. I mean, there's very few games at
opening week. I'm more fascinated to watch. That's way the
big good on my list. Listen, it's been you know,
Rescetic has on Reddick's not showing up many camp stuff, Aaron,
the Nat Hackett story with Arthur Smith. Listen, it's the Jets.
It's noisy. Some of it's the city. Although I will
(25:13):
argue the Eli Manning Tom Cofflin teams when they were winning,
were actually kind of boring and didn't make a lot
of news. This team's noisy. What do you what do
you kind of make of the noise? Is?
Speaker 6 (25:25):
Yes, well, I think my argument to that is the
offseason in New York is always going to be noisy.
I think what helps them this year is there's no
hard knocks. They don't have to worry about that. The
Giants kind of wore that hard knocks deal for them
this year, if you will, and they can just kind
of focus on ball because that The Aaron Rodgers injury
would have been massive last year if they weren't on
(25:46):
hard knocks, but because it was on hard knocks, it
even was bigger. Right, So I think up front, and
I know we have a great graphic for this. But
the changes at offensive line, three new starters, same offensive
line coach. But you see Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tipman,
Elija Verr Tucker coming back from injuries, and Morgan Moses.
They get two of those guys, John Simpson the left
guard and the right tackle, and Morgan Moses excuse me
(26:09):
from the Ravens.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
So they have some veteran talent. They got some guys
that they trust.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Joe Tipman's solid center going into his second year, Wisconsin guy.
I think that offensive line should be more or less,
you know, better than serviceable, like better than top half.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Of the league.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
You would think after a rookie.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
That for Shauna kids.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
So he's I mean, I feel like it's the MasterCard commercial, right,
like priceless. He gets to be around Tyron Smith and
Morgan Moses as a rookie and beer swing tackle.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
That's priceless. I mean, you're developing the guy right away.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Those two guys are thirty plus in age, right, thirty
plus years old. The chances those guys play every single
snap now, I hope they don't get hurt. I hope
they're you know, shoelace falls out or something, and this
kid's gotta play. But now you have six legit offensive linemen.
That's great for Aaron Rodgers, that's what you want. You
add some guys in free agency with Mike Williams. I
love some of their draft picks. With the young receiver
(27:04):
Malachi out of Western Kentucky, I think he's a yak guy,
yards after catch kind of guy. He's gonna have to
fill that Randall Cobb kind of void and be the
slot wiggle free on third down because we're gonna double
Garrett Wilson, We're gonna double Mike Williams. All right, young kid,
we need you to eat. But suffice to say, with
this whole thing philosophically, from the top with coach Hackett,
(27:27):
their offensive line, coach Keith Carter, and the quarterback, what
are we doing on quick game? Aaron Rodgers went down
on a quick game play, meaning three step timing for
the offense. And you can roll the clip because Leonard
Floyd ends up hurting him on this play. First game
of the year, fourth play, whatever it was. Well, it
looks like they're trying to cut on quick game. So
(27:50):
if the left tackle's cutting like that, the quarterback needs
to know I cannot hold onto the ball. So this
is where there's blame to go around when you say
the ultimate team sport one, are we not cutting.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
On quick game?
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Because this was this ended up being the worst possible
result of guys not getting either a philosophy understood.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Or executing at the right level.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Receivers got to get open, balls got to come out,
and either we are cutting or we are not cutting
on quick game. So that moving forward would have been
my first meeting, my first question to everybody, you know
what I mean, if I'm the Jets beat writer, like,
that's my first question. What's our deal here? What are
we doing this year? Now, he's probably not going to
divulge that to a beat writer, but that changed the
(28:31):
course of their whole season last year. Yeah, so where
are we going with that stuff? And I think they're
going to get a lot more time to do that,
in a lot more privacy to do that. Should they
allow themselves the privacy and things don't come spewing out
of the building, which tends to happen at times. It's
New York, it's really hard, So what does that look like?
And they don't have to explain it every week on
hired knocks or feel like they have to or anything
(28:52):
like that. So I think all these things work in
their favor. But it starts philosophically Hackett offensive line coach
Aaron Rodgers, and then boom go for it because it's
not a ten urre plan with Aaron Rodgers, they gotta win.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
What are we going to get from? Jordan Love thoughts
on the Cowboys next with Mark Sanchez live in lah
the Herd.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Eastern not a em Pacific.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
All right, listen, Green Bay knows quarterbacks. I'd pay Jordan
Love to Mark Sanchez joining us for our radio audience.
Would you be a little concerned that he was erratic
early and we have a very small sample size? Does
that concern you getting the big contractory won't return to
even practice.
Speaker 6 (29:35):
And I think that's part of it, right, That kind
of contract hamstrings you with the rest of your roster.
Look at where the Cowboys are and we'll get to the
Cowboys later. But we've seen a little bit of both,
right the jekylin Hyde and man was he good at
the end of the year. Twenty one touchdowns three interceptions
in the last nine games, didn't take any sacks in
the playoffs, did a great job of throwing the ball away,
(29:58):
went in and hung up almost half hundred on the
Cowboys beat them forty eight thirty two. And that was
a dan Quinn good Dallas Cowboys defense that were expected
to advance to the next round. So massive upset. He
did it all on the road. That's that's a pretty
big deal. So if you're arguing for the contract, you
have some ammo. If you're arguing against the contract, part
(30:18):
of it is listen to to make sure your success
is sustainable. You might want to take a little haircut
and maybe take a page out of the Tom Brady
book of making sure there's enough money to go around,
because at some point the roster might look a little
thin if we don't make this, you know, mutually beneficial
for both sides.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Right now, they're so young offensively, If I'm Jordan Love
and his agent, can I say, listen, pay us in
the first two years, we'll go team friendly the last two.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
At the very end, Yeah, Because yeah, I wouldn't be shocked.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
I wouldn't be shocked if that's kind of the direction
they had because a lot of these guys, they're the
young team you know in Little League that grows up
together for like seven eight years, and that whole Little
League travel team goes to the same high school, and
you're just like, dang it. These guys know everything about
each other. They've been playing together forever. The experience that
they got last year is once again priceless, invaluable because
(31:13):
they got to play in two extra games that nobody
had them pegged for at a very young age, with
a bunch of guys on early contracts. I mean, look
at even the tight end room. It's a young, young
group with Craft and Musgrave, and those guys really performed.
And you know, these guys are coming up together. They
could be nasty, and in the playoffs they were tougher, grittier,
(31:33):
and feistier than the Cowboys. They just out executed him.
And you know it's almost that ignorance is bliss mentality.
Let's just go roll out there and play our best ball.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
I think my interpretation is Love is a little more
far than Aaron, not quite as precise, but willing to
letter rip oh I. And my take is Mark, he's
not Aaron. Aaron tend to be a very precise quarterback.
I think you have to live with Love. I think
Love's got a little Josh Allen where he's gotta make
(32:02):
some throws that you win. But I'm okay with that
because I trust Green Bay's operation.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
And get that number.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
If he's gonna make a couple of those throws, take
it from five or six like he was at the
early in the season to like two or three, where
you're like kind of hold your breath, you know, the
more you can just eliminate those for his game. And
then we got to watch how it plays out at
running back. Aaron Jones goes in the division to the Vikings,
and now you bring in Josh Jacobs, who isn't quite
the receiving threat maybe as Aaron Jones, but more of
(32:32):
the downhill, you know, every down back kind of thing.
So you see what they what they want to do there,
but so much, so much youth and experience, and those
two things don't really go together right, And Jordan Love's
in a good spot. I think they just got to
figure out the contract. I bet you, I bet you
we're talking like a week or so, because he's he's there.
(32:52):
How valuable are these practices. If you don't have the
quarterback right like, you're trying to get all your guys
going and you know, keep that momentum from the last year.
You need those guys together again. You can't lose your
most important guy right now. In my opinion, this sets
a tone for your season.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
So paying the quarterback is it's a delicate balance that
you want to pay it, but if he's got an
injury history or there's limitations. So the Cowboys are gonna
pay Mike and CD. They drafted them, they hit on them,
they're elite. You gotta pay him. That's why you draft guys.
Are you hit on them, you pay him. Dak's more precarious.
(33:29):
He at times has been carried the more the team is.
Dak reliant. They have struggled against good teams. This is
a dance to me. With those three stars, they couldn't
spend any money in free agency. They're very top heavy.
Where do you go with that? Are you worried about
the distractions of contracts with Dallas?
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (33:49):
Well, one hundred percent. And it's once again a noise factor.
How much are we listening to all this? And you
know how much does that infiltrate our locker room and
affect what's going on on coaching wise. I mean everybody
coaching wise is on a one year deal, So it
creates kind of two mechanisms, right, Like you can have
a high risk, high reward scenario. If things work out,
(34:12):
all those coaches are gonna get retained and paid, and
a high.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Tide raises all ships.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
So great, Well, if things don't work out, there's gonna
be a ton of turnover. And then now there's questions
about the quarterback. What do we do even if he
leaves next year? He's got a forty million dollars cap
hit for the Cowboys, So I mean that's like I
don't know, told there'd be no math, but around fourteen
percent of your cap it's gonna go up again next year. Like,
they got real questions. But let's just start with this season.
(34:38):
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I mean,
the lack of the offseason activity, the poor momentum after
the playoff loss. Where's your depth, where's your experience? Like,
what are we doing Potentially two rookies starting on the
offensive line, that's gonna be different for Dak And then
what are we doing in the running back position. I
know Zeke's back, but he's a year nine. No Tony Pollard,
(34:59):
So who's the catching thread out of there?
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Doubt all Von.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And so think about the
difference between maybe Dak and the Cowboys his rookie year
and the talent he had around him.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
The other explosive players.
Speaker 6 (35:17):
Think about a couple of years ago when Cooper Rush
went in and went four and one as a starter.
Well he did that with Gallup, CD, Schultz, Zeke.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
And Pollard. I mean, that's some talent now, So flip
flop the quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (35:36):
Even if you're not a Dak fan, let's say you
know what I mean, Like, even if you don't like that, Okay, well,
then who would win on this team? Who's gonna help
this team elevate suddenly? And where are the weapons? Who
am I throwing to? Who's keeping the defensive coordinators up
at night? Like, dang, what are we gonna do about
this guy? And that's you know, those are tough questions
to ask going into a season. You want to have
those things shirt up. So I think the lack of
(35:57):
depth is gonna be tough. And this is gonna be
a lot on Dak's plate. You know, he's always going
to be poised to handle anything. But this one's you know,
this one's stuff.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Mark Sanchez joining US Fox Sports, he opens up Titans
and Bears, the you know it's I do think it's
become a very quarterback coach centric league. And I and
I think we know, by and large, there's about ten
great everything in the league, like offensive tackles, quarterback coaches.
(36:27):
Earlier today, I said, if you told me, regardless of
what their current situation is, that we paid quarterbacks in
a perfect world in order be paid with their worth.
And I put up three tiers. I said, Mahomes and
Allen feel different to me. That literally Josh Allen had
(36:47):
ten more touchdowns than everybody else in the league, and
that Mahomes has been to five to six Super Bowls.
Then the second is remarkable players. There may be a
Lamar playoff issue, a stafford age of Burrow health, a
golf immobile issue. I think those are great quarterbacks. Then
there's three to me that are rising stars. Again, I
(37:07):
just need more, I need more hours. Herbert's got to
get the right coach. And then I said Jalen Hurts
is my eleven DAK twelve. But if I had to,
as a GM, pay ten quarterbacks in order of what
I believe health winning, production elevate, others not be elevated.
Is there is there somebody missing there?
Speaker 6 (37:31):
I might shuffle some guys around, but remember I have
to call all ten of those guys games, so we're
not going to get into a ranking system.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
I didn't know what That makes production meetings very difficult.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
I didn't know what to do with Jalen Hurts one great.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
Yeah, but I think some of that is like recentcy bias. Right,
if those years were flipped, he'd probably be on this board.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
That's what I mean. You no, I think you're right.
I didn't know what to do.
Speaker 6 (37:52):
And then what do you do when guys get hurt
like Kirk Cousins who is playing out of his mind,
maybe MVP worthy, and then gets hurt so oh like
he's not in because he's older and coming back from injury.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
I didn't where's Aaron Rodgers where? You know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (38:07):
If you got hurt last year, you can't make this list,
like what are the It's hard because your your scope
of it totally valid. My scope of it totally valid,
but we might factor or or weight some of these
factors a little bit higher, let.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Me out to you, or lower.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
We got we got a minute and a half left, forty.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Survived for a minute and a half, tucking.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
QBS forty off an achilles surgery with a new old
line and a hacket issue a little bit. What are
reasonable numbers for Aaron you know his new now what
what what should it look like?
Speaker 6 (38:39):
What I mean, he's I think he's easily uh four
thousand yards around there. I think he's easily right around
thirty touchdowns, less than ten.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
Picks, Okah, I mean throw nine picks. Yeah, like that
would be more than enough.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
And I think he can easily surpass that in a
year where they catch fire. You know, like that's a
team that could win the division, you know what I mean?
And I mean we had two really good teams never
won our division. The division went through Foxboro Brady and Belichick,
and we were nine to two at one point playing
them on Monday night and just got absolutely blown out
of the water. So you know, I don't know this.
(39:16):
This team is going to be good. Their defense is solid.
I think they got less noise with the hard knock stuff.
I think the Jets could potentially run the division. Well, okay,
what does that look like?
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Then?
Speaker 6 (39:26):
Rogers numbers are going to be way more than what
I just explained at three or four thouy thirty.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
And ten or lesser. Right, So I think that's easily
attainable for him.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Wow, I said. My take was by mid October, if
the Penn State rookie, You're like, Wow, if the O
line is healthy and there's chemistry, because I don't suspect
those veterans will play a lot in preseason, and I
think they'll figure each other. As you know, old line's
the toughest cohesion to Creer, no doubt, right quarterback receiver
(39:58):
and O line that is timing and cohesion. If it
mid October, were like, Aaron's got time to throw.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
I know Breeseall's going healthy comar.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
I know they're a good team.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
The defense is solid. I mean they could win it.
You got the Bills. I pick the Jets all right?
Speaker 1 (40:17):
Uh Sanchez, it's so good to see.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
It's great.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Mark Mark Sanchez arrives sodas football. I can smell cut grass.
I can smell cut grass right now.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Love it
