This is the Best of the Herd with Colin cowher
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
All Right, it is a Friday. We are live as
usual in Los Angeles. Wherever you may be and however
you may be listening. Thanks for megan us part of
your day. One hour from now. I have my blazing
five picks. Jmck'll have his in the third hour. Last night, Yes,
there was a football game. The bigger story, of course,
(00:47):
is Tua had his fourth concussion, and you know, I
think it's something we had thought about last year. Did
not have one. Jmc. So when you see the fencing
in the hands, it's so tough to watch, and I
want to start with that, not the Bills win. If
I was to us, I would probably call it a career.
(01:10):
I would probably call it a rap. If Tua was
my son, my son was playing football, I would suggest
calling it a rap, but I'm not a pro athlete.
They are hyper competitive, they fight to the end, and
in team sports they often feel a guilt to teammates
and coaches in letting them down. It is real. It's
one of the many reasons pro athletes are admirable and redeemable.
(01:35):
They fight, they play through pain. They don't want to
let teammates down. They cry when they do. I'm thinking
about this this morning. I wonder if the NFL should
not consider an amnesty clause every team gets won every
five to ten years that if a player gets a
concussion or a serious possible career ending injury, the payer
(01:59):
get it's played, but it doesn't go against it's an
amnesty clause. It doesn't go against one every five to
ten years your salary cap, so it doesn't punish the
coaches or the teammates. Because I think two is probably
going to talk himself into playing again, and I'm not
sure he should. He's a great guy, very thoughtful, and
(02:20):
he's a wonderful teammate. He has an incredible reputation in
the league, and I think he'll talk himself into playing.
I think he'll have doubts. Reportedly, a member of his
families suggest that it's time to quit. I think I would,
but that's not the way pro athletes are. Andrew Luck
was rare that in his twenties, in his prime, he
(02:41):
walked away. But it's very hard for pro athletes to
do that. I mean, think about it. Most of us
go to college and we start thinking about our careers.
But the journey for a professional athlete often starts when
they're six, seven, eight years old. People sacrifice for them,
it's or their identity, it's a lifestyle. Two has been
(03:01):
a quarterback back in Hawaii for I mean probably started
at six or seven years old, and he what twenty
six years old now something like that. It's a big
part of him. I mean, he's got a life beyond that.
But it's a big part for pro athletes, and it's
a real palpable thing. They feel guilt, They hurry themselves
back to play. I've talked to NFL athletes. I had
(03:22):
dinner last night with an NFL executive and he said,
you know, we have to sometimes tell players you can't
play this week, you are too hurt. You have to
protect them. They fight to the finish. It's not what
I do it's not maybe what you do, but it's
what they do. Should the NFL consider somewhat of an
amnesty clause to protect the players from themselves? Again to
(03:46):
his decision, it's his, but my guess he'll talk himself
into playing. He'll say things like, you know, I'll be
smarter next time. I could have avoided that. Hey, I
didn't get hurt last season. And maybe all those are true.
But being a pro athlete is almost addictive. It's a
wonderful life. It can be a tough life. It can
be a physically punishing life. But just to ask Tua
(04:08):
on his own to step down and retire, all the coaches,
all the teammates, there's a bond in pro sports that's
hard to explain. A lot of teams, there's limitations on
when guys like me are even allowed in the locker room,
and truthfully, I never like going into them. It's a
sanctuary for pro athletes. It's a club. I haven't earned
the right to be there. They have to let us in.
(04:29):
But it's a special place. It's a special bond. I've
been around pro athletes. I've seen them cry years later
recalling games. They're in their sixties, and seventies. Those were
fifty years ago. There's really nothing like it. And more
often than not, when you pay a player and Tua
just got the bag, they feel a responsibility to not
(04:50):
let teammates down, coaches down, fans down, the franchise down.
Oh they could. A lot of people could get the
money and then take work off a little early. But
that's not how tool works, and that's not how most
pro athletes I've known worked. I think I would call
(05:10):
it a rap. Mike McDaniel, the very bright head coach
of the Dolphins, offered this after.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
I'm just worried about the the human being. From a
medical standpoint, that's I don't approach things that I'm far
inferior of expertise. For me to go ahead and forecast
things that I don't know and in my non field
of expertise, I don't think that's appropriate. I was just
(05:40):
worried about my guys. So yeah, it's uh yeah, not
not something that you uh every want ever want to
be a part of.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
It's tough. Dion Dawkins of the Buffalo Bills talked after
the game. He an opponent arrival was emotional.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
It was the saddest thing I promise you it was
the saddest thing. We're all just watching them running. We're
like slide bro slide ro slidebro slide, and this game
is so fast. It's a game of inches. You know,
if he would have just slid just a little inch before.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
It's such a sad thing.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
My prayers, my heart goes out to Tua, his family,
his parents, and I hope that he's going to recover
well because this is a violent game and that shows it.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
The decision is TOAs and TOAs only. But I bet
privately the NFL is having discussions this morning, and I
bet they prefer he walk away, not to punish the Dolphins,
to protect Tua. Believe it or not, they've said forever,
this league, this sport, it's about family, and of all
the sports I'd covered in my life, it really is.
(06:59):
It's different. We wish him and the Dolphins, well, it's
his decision, only the game. So we've talked about this
in sports in the NBA with Luca, like how much
Luca is too much Luca if he always leads the
NBA and what they call usage rate, Well, if the
NFL had that, Josh Allen would lead the league in
(07:20):
usage rate. Last year, I think fifty eight touchdowns the
Bills had, he was part of fifty one. Like that,
that's not the way you want it. Last night Buffalo
had four touchdowns. Josh Allen was part of one of
the four. That's what you want. That's what the Celtics did.
The Celtics said, we love Jason Tatum. He's all NBA
First Team, but we're going to lean into collaborative. Dallas
(07:45):
still trying to figure that out with the Mavericks, and
I think Buffalo is getting really close. And I think
last night was an example. This is what I keep
asking with Buffalo. I didn't have him in my top
ten to start the season, let me watch him. But
last night was impressive. I mean a downfall of the
pay at the end. They were too relying on Brady.
But the Bills now have a really good running back,
(08:06):
Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator, he and Alan work. They
have depth at wide receiver, too, strong above average tight ends.
They looked efficient, not a lot of penalties, offensive line dominated,
zero sacks allowed. It was now Miami's not one of
the better defenses in the league, but they're not terrible.
I mean, I look at this last night, and I think,
(08:28):
is this a pivot? Sean McDermott deserves some credit. Last
couple of years, they're drafting offensive guys in the first
couple rounds, first couple picks. It's tight ends, it's wide receivers,
it's running backs. They're trying to get him help. They're
not being stubborn. Sean McDermott and the Bills are listening.
They're not being stubborn here. I mean, like, I think
Lamar Jackson's amazing. I don't think he can take those
(08:49):
kind of hits. I don't think it's sustainable. But I
watched last night. Buffalo now feels more complete. They don't
have any dramat wide receiver. Offensive line was excellent, a
really nice running back, tight ends, wide receiver depth. I
mean four touchdowns, Josh Allen only connected to one. I
think that's the Buffalo Bills that can win a Super Bowl.
(09:12):
I didn't know. I watched the Arizona game and my
takeaway was, good mine, you got you gotta let's put
the Superman cape away. Last night they did. Here's Josh after.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
When you look at the statuet, I don't I don't
know what our numbers were but I know we were
really low in time with possession, and we were probably
really low in total yards, but still managed to put
up thirty one points and that that means your defense
is doing something right. So they had our back tonight
and we're gonna need them going forward. And I'm just
very proud of how guys stepped up into their to
their roles and they played together. You know, when you
(09:44):
play together like that, you're typically gonna have good results.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
All Right, there's stuff on Caleb Williams to talk about.
Greg Cosel yesterday was appointed criticism. We have a blazing five.
I'm going some heavy favorites. I rarely do that, but
I am this week. And U just how good is
Josh Allen? I mean, it's just there are certain athletes,
this was Lebron in his prime where you could have
an NBA game on you could just turn the sound down,
(10:08):
not listen to the announcers of the crowd, and you'd
be like, who's that guy? When I watch television, you
just turn the sound down. And Josh Allen just doesn't
look like other pro athletes, I mean the kids. He's
just too talented not to eventually win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
So here we go Blazing five. Week two.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Let's blaze it up, Fired Up. It's Collins Blazing five,
sponsored by Draft Kicks. Forty nine ers said Viking.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I'm gonna take the Vikings plus five points. I think
it's the play here. Niners are on a short week now,
Jennings has heard it. Wide receiver Christian McCaffrey's still out.
I think it's hard to play two for perfect football
games back to back listen Donald Sam Darnold's playing his
old team. He's faced them in practice. This is the
only team Minnesota that held an opponent under ten points.
(11:03):
They got five sacks. I think they'll put some pressure
and I think this is one of the best coach
teams in the league. Again, the Niners a short week,
they're still banged up. The Vikings pass offense and this
is using backup quarterbacks under Kevin O'Connell. If you go
look at the passing offense, five different starting quarterbacks they've used.
They're putting up top five numbers in the league. I
(11:25):
think this goes down to the final sequence, the final
minutes of the game. I'm going to take the Vikings
to cover, but the Niners to win narrowly twenty six
to twenty three.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Saint said, Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
I'm going to take the Cowboys as a six point
home favorite and swallow the six points. Could be the
best bet on the board. Listen, just go look at
the numbers. McCarthy and Dak are unbelievable home favorites. It's
bully ball. When they're favored and play an inferior team,
they roll them. Dak best home team in the NFL
last year at eight no they scored thirty seven points
a game, so they're very comfortable as a favorite playing downhill.
(12:03):
Defense had six sacks as probably the strength of the team. Listen,
the Saints are one in five against playoff teams last year,
but they were nine and three record against non playoff
teams start the last season. So the Saints get their
wins off the lowsy teams, especially lowsy teams at home.
Now it's a good team on the road. I like
Dallas to win and cover thirty twenty Cowboys. Jet said tighten,
(12:29):
all right, the wise guys like the Titans. I do not.
I'm gonna take the Jets. Listen. As much as Aaron
Rodgers may have scuffed, he was the fourth highest graded
passer in the week in the league last year against
a very good defense. So this offense is going to
get better. They got pushed around. Also, this offensive line
is all new guys. They're gonna get better every week.
We said this. The old line's going to take four
weeks to get really attacked together. I just think Tennessee,
(12:52):
I'm not sure they have an NFL quarterback. They were
atrocious on third down. They failed to cross midfield in
the second half, brutal. Last nine star Will Levis is
completing fifty seven percent of his throws. The Jets were
humiliated physically. They'll play with their hair on fire. Their
defense will be fine. I like the Jets to win
(13:12):
and the Jets to cover twenty four to.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Ten Steelers and Broncos.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I like the Broncos at home plus two and a half.
I like the dog here. Pittsburgh has another road game,
go to the high altitude travel cross country. I thought
Denver was pretty good defensively. I mean, I think Sean
Payton and his guys. They may not have great personnel,
but they held the Seahawks one hundred and fifty eight
passing yards. They got two turnovers. Bo Nicks, I don't know.
He took a one bad pick in forty two attempts,
(13:39):
so I thought he was pretty good. I've said all
off season, I think Denver's personnel is better than you think.
I think we have one of the smartest offensive coaches
at home and Pittsburgh, by the way, their offense was
twenty eighth rank scoring offense last season. I think it's
worse justin fields did not attempt a single pass over
the middle of the field. Denver coaches are going to
see that. I'm gonna take Thecos the points. I think
(14:01):
they win outright, twenty three to twenty.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Bear's in Texan.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Okay, I'm gonna take another favorite. I'm not prone to
do this. I think CJ. Stroud. I think in about
six weeks we may be looking up thinking he's the
third best quarterback in the league. I think the kid's incredible.
I think he's incredible. Seventy five percent completion percentage last
week at home. Last year, rookie Year had one hundred
and twelve passer rating at home. The kid's unbelievable. He's
(14:27):
intentional with his running. He's one of the more accurate passers.
Now they've given him Joe Mixon a twenty five to
thirty carried back. They've added Stefon Diggs. Folks, this offensive
roster is e elite. It's top two or three in
the league now and c J. Stroud's getting better by
the way. The Bears offense a mess and now Roman
Dunzay and Keenan Allen are hurt. Offense had the fewest
(14:47):
yards last week. That was at home against an average team.
I don't think they're going to get the ball March.
I think Houston's going to totally dominate time of possession.
It's gonna be Joe Mixon plaques and passes, the accurate
throwing of c. J. Stroud. I think it's a mismatch.
I don't get the line. I think the Texans win
and cover twenty seven to seventeen, and I think Chicago
may score a late touchdown to make it close. I
(15:10):
think Houston is a bye bye bye in CJ. Stroud. Folks,
this kid, how many starts does he have in the pros?
He looks like a nine year veteran, totally poised, totally
under control, no bad throws. DraftKings Sportsbook, home of Touchdowns.
New customers can bet five bucks and get two hundred
instantly and bonus bets sign up. The code has heard
(15:33):
h e RD. So I take two underdogs. I'm gonna
take the Vikings and the Denver Broncos. And I'm gonna
go with some favorites because I think there's quarterback mismatches.
I think Dallas is a great home favorite, but I'm
gonna take Aaron over Will Levis. I'm taking c J.
Stroud over Caleb Williams. Those are quarterback plays to me.
The wise guys don't like those moves. I do.
Speaker 2 (15:55):

David Spade, Got Fiemi, and also those who can help

someone like Ed Milett or John Gordon. We've all been
(16:22):
through some sort of adversity to get to the top.
We've all used different tools. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay
Glazer and Mental Wealth podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get podcasts.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
He was a Super Bowl chant with a twenty fifteen
Denver Broncos. Appearances to the Super Bowl with the Steelers
and the forty nine Ers as well. He retired a
few years back. Now his son's playing some football. He's
still in Denver. One of my favorite guys, Emmanuel Sanders,
a two time Pro Bowl WIE receiver, is joining us
in the Herd seven playoffs in twelve years. So you're
living the good life, the retired life. And how I
want to ask you. You're the first player I've talked
(16:58):
to since I watched two last night. And I had
said earlier Emmanuel that players, overwhelmingly the football players i've met,
when they get paid, when they get the bag, they
want to prove they're worth it. They don't want to
bail and retire. And I can see Tua talking himself
into it. He didn't want to let down his teammates,
he didn't want to let down the fans. He didn't
want to let down his coaches, and I wonder if
(17:21):
you know, I don't know if it's guilt that he'll
just talk himself into coming back and it may not
be best for him. You watch it, what would you
do as a player?
Speaker 7 (17:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (17:31):
For me, I mean that's hard because you know, I
you know, when they say that, guys kind of get
the bag and they kind of give up. I mean,
I just feel like that's from a laziness standpoint. But
when you're dealing with too, I mean, we're talking about
longeviable of life.
Speaker 7 (17:45):
We're talking about, you know, him being there for his family.
Speaker 8 (17:49):
In years to come. I mean we're talking about a
totally different situation. And you know, I've listened to people
on ESPN and Fox and all.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
These different network work, you know, discuss this topic.
Speaker 8 (18:01):
And for me, like it's a hard topic to discuss
because it's hard for me to tell him exactly what
to do.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
I just know if it was me, it's.
Speaker 8 (18:12):
Just hard for that to be a last play of football,
right right. And I think that's the hardest part for
tool is like I don't want to go out that
way and that be my last play of football. And
I think that's from me personally. Now, if tool was
my son, like you said, I have a son, I'm
telling my son, look look man, like you had a
(18:34):
great career. I mean, you did everything that you could
possibly do. But at some point, how much longer could
you take this abuse to your brain to the point
of longevity of life that it's going to hinder you
and affect you down the road. And it's big decisions
to be made. I mean, it's a hard decision. I
hate to see it, but I just hope that he
does the right thing for himself and don't think about
(18:57):
anybody else besides his family and himself.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
You know, it's so interesting you mentioned that I didn't
even think about that, But the last play being a concussion, Yeah,
that's crazy, that's it. That's really again, you're a player.
I would have never even thought about that, and I
think it does matter. You know, I've said this about
football is really interesting. NBA is a players league. You know,
Baseball guys get ten year contracts. Football's different a manual.
(19:24):
It is a family like you do. I mean, I've
talked to countless players. Once you get to week three,
everybody's hurt. The whole league's hurt. Nobody feels good by
week four, So it's yeah, that's a that's a really
good point. And you know, here's the thing too, is
years ago, ten fifteen years ago, I did feel sometimes
(19:47):
that team doctors sort of pressured you to play hurt,
Like I think that's over now. Like your last couple
of years in the league, what was your relationship with
team doctors, like if you were banged up, what was
it like?
Speaker 7 (20:01):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 8 (20:03):
Certain guys are in different positions. For me, it was
not so much of them forcing me to play. I
feel like in my early years it was more of
if I don't play, the next guy.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Is ready to take my job. Wow. Right.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
And so I'm in there and I'm saying, now I'm
gonna go out and play because I don't want to
be in that situation where I'm a Wally Pittman, you.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
Know what I mean, the next thing, I'm done.
Speaker 8 (20:29):
So I used to always go out and play because
I wanted it so bad that I didn't want to
lose my job. And so I mean, even with to
a situation, I mean, these doctors gotta be they have
to put everything in front of them, especially dealing with
the brain. Like I understand a foot injury, a finger,
this and that, but when you're dealing with the brain,
like that's something that you just don't want to play with.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Yeah. So you played with Garoppolo, Peyton Manning, Josh, Allen,
big Ben. Sometimes they were young, sometimes they were old.
I watched the young quarterback at last week, and I
thought bow Knicks was the best of the group, but
they looked a little overwhelmed. Go back to your career
when you were playing with either Josh or Peyton or
Garoppolo and they were young. They weren't that you know,
(21:13):
they were they were in the developmental stage. Give me
an example of the difference between playing with a veteran
quarterback and a kid quarterback in your career. What's the difference.
Speaker 7 (21:26):
I mean, they're big eye. It's like a deer in
the headlights, you know, Like yeah, and you know, as
a veteran wide receiver, you're like, look, I'll just keep
doing it to me. I take the pressure, right, But.
Speaker 8 (21:41):
But no, man, when I when I see both Nicks,
even when I see Caleb Williams, you know, like these
guys got a lot of expect expectations coming in especially
you know Caleb Williams in the performance he had, even
both the performances they had in the preseason. It was
a lot of expectations with these guys. But I mean
that rook's man, I remember my first rookie year. Like
(22:02):
I mean, college is a whole nother animal, right, it's fast,
But National Football League it's it's turned up a notch
and even playoffs it's turned up even more of a notch.
And so you gotta get used to that speed. You
gotta get used to the just the lifestyle of the
National Football League. It's a lot that's going on with
these guys. I think that they're doing a tremendous job,
(22:22):
you know what I mean, and handle it. And I
think week by week they're gonna get better and better
and the game is gonna slow down more and more
and they're gonna get more and more comfortable. But I
tell you, well, I think the Broncos. You know, right now,
Broncos fans are kind of frustrated because they're tired of losing.
And I am too, But I mean, this this just
feels different.
Speaker 7 (22:41):
Though.
Speaker 8 (22:41):
We got a young quarterback with a lot of talent.
He can escape the pocket. He can make plays. You know,
I was watching his interviews. He carries himself really really well,
Like I think that we have some special you know,
we got Sean Payton, so we just got to allow
it to manifest and build up on itself and don't
put excess pressure on this kid.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
So you played with the Niners back in twenty nineteen.
I think you played with Kittle and a lot of
these guys, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, who I think is
the best linebacker in football. So when they took the
Jets to the woodshed, my take is, you don't want
to play a veteran team week one at home. I
think the Jets are going to be fine, But if
(23:20):
you watch that game, you're like, the Jets are terrible.
You were in that Niner locker room. I think there's
like seven hall of famers. Fred Warner's a Hall of famer,
Trents a Hall of famer, Christian's a hall of famer,
Kittle's gonna be a Hall of Famer. I mean, Tufunga
eventually is unbelievable. You tell me the Niners culture, you
(23:43):
were part of it. I just think they're great. I
don't think the Jets are bad. What was it like
to be part of that team that I think is
the best roster in the league.
Speaker 8 (23:52):
Oh, the Niners. What Kyle has built out there, I
mean it's special. I don't have too many regrets, but
sometimes I sit back or saying, why the hell of
it out? You know, We're coming off the Super Bowl
and I was just I was on my last leg
and I was just wearing the eyes and going back again,
and I knew how hard it was repeat, But man,
I wish it would have never left. I mean, just
(24:13):
playing under Kyle Shanahan, Man, it was awesome. I mean
the weather out there in California and seventy and Sonny
and I mean just just.
Speaker 7 (24:20):
The energy out there. It's just special.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
Man, playing with Kiddle and dee Bo and Bosa and
Fred and all those boys.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
I mean as.
Speaker 8 (24:28):
Semi young team, but it's a bunch of grown men
that love ball and they come to work every single day.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
And not only that, they got in my.
Speaker 8 (24:36):
In my opinion, you missed the Hall of Famer because
Kyle Shanahan and me is gonna be a Hall.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
Of Famer, right uh.
Speaker 8 (24:43):
And I mean he stays true to the run. I
mean his system is everything that I am as a receiver.
They want they want receivers that will take pride in
the run game and who can who who can catch
the ball to be consistent with who they are and
how they are, how they play and so what he's
out there.
Speaker 7 (25:00):
It's just special man.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
And man, I was watching this super Bowl, this previous
super Bowl. When they lost it, it crushed me. I
mean my energy just went down because I can't wait
until Kyle host that hoisted Lombardi Trophy man, because he's
deserving of me for sure.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Finally, Josh Allen, you played with Josh. I actually loved
Buffalo last night because they ran the ball. And I
always talk about the Luca Dantice of the Dallas Mavericks.
It's like I can love a guy. I want him
to be the man. I don't want him to be
the only man. And I watched Buffalo last night and
I'm like, oh, that that can win the super Bowl. Well,
(25:35):
two tight ends, depth good back, their defense is always
good with Sean. What was it like playing with Josh
as a leader as a guy man.
Speaker 8 (25:46):
First of all, watching Josh Man, I love the way
that he's playing right now, especially because he doesn't have
no big time receivers. I mean, when me and Diggs
was there, it was like, man, I got to get
these guys the ball, Like, got to get these the
ball guys the ball. And now he's just like, man,
I'm going into the game and I'm just making my reason.
(26:07):
I'm finding an open guy and there's no emotions of
having to force force the ball to somebody. And I
think that it's it's it's a great thing for him,
I mean, and just playing with him.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
One thing that I didn't.
Speaker 8 (26:18):
Like is is this overrated comparison. I'm like, are these
people crazy out of their minds? I mean, this guy
is just as fast as me. He's six foot five.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
I mean he has a rocket of an arm. I
mean he I mean he has all the intangibles. I mean,
he's an incredible player.
Speaker 8 (26:34):
I truly enjoy being out there, you know, just watching
his growth, you know in Buffalo, watching him versus the Chiefs.
Blink right, just he's just blinking and on fire, jumping
over guys the same way that he was doing against
the Cardinals. I Mean, I love this version of Josh Allen.
He's the same Josh Allen I played with in twenty
twenty one. But I feel like back then they were
(26:58):
giving him a spectations that he's supposed to be great,
but now he didn't have the receiver so to speak,
that they they want him to have, and he's balling
and I'm loving it.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Emmanuel. I always love having you on the show. Thoughtful guy.
Good luck to you, Good luck to your son. I
know he loves football too. He's gonna like basketball more
at indoors. He can dunk. That's way more fun. Basketball practice,
way more fun than football practice. Emanuel. Just get ready.
He's got to throw those pads and that stuff away.
In about three years, you go hoop and you're gonna
have to watch that and deal with it.
Speaker 7 (27:29):
Oh God, we'll see though.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
All right, Emanuel, good seeing you, my man.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
I appreciate you calling. Good scene as well.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
All Right, there's a real pro right there. That guy
knows the game really, really well. And I think his
point is fascinating that I never even thought of. You
don't want that to be your last plug. You're a
pro athlete, that's it, you say, Well, I don't know.
I totally I could totally get that as a pro athlete.
I want my last show to sing, baby, weren't Elway
and Manning's final well no plays basically super Bowl winning
(27:56):
walk off Like yeah, I can remember as a kid
Elway announcing his retirement after the Super Bowl, and I
remember thinking this, he's still like a top ten quarterback,
like why would you? But you know John was a
Stanford guy, had businesses. But it's very rare. I I
don't know why. In my brain Roger Staback I thought
could have played longer. I don't maybe that's not true.
(28:17):
It's all fuzzy. But l Way and Stallback I remember
when they retired, I thought they still had something in
the tank. So what is that? Seventies football?
Speaker 5 (28:25):
Yeah, seventies.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
We haven't had one of those in a while.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
A nice job by you. I guess we stopped talking
about baseball now that for me. Tom Brady can still play, Yeah,
no question, Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
Tom Brady kidding.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
He sniffed around at one point. I'll take it broadcast,
you wanted to get on a jet fly down game
plan tyree killer Jayala watta sure? Yeah, I mean seriously,
if you were a backup quarterback in this league and
you wanted one more shot, you almost played for free
in Miami, McDaniel Jalen, those backs, Tyreek. That that is.
(29:01):
I mean a lot of times when you go in
as a backup quarterback, you know it's like, uh, like
the Justin Fields thing. That's just gonna be hard. Miami
is a backup quarterback. That is like if I'm Zach Wilson,
I'm like, all play for free, get me down there.
And that is you get the coach, you get the receivers,
you get the backs, The lifestyle, the culture in Miami,
(29:24):
that stuff doesn't matter. South Beach. I like it. My
wife top season, year round back. My wife thinks it's
too nightclubby, and I'm like, he's going to get groceries.
I'm out there dance Miami in LA. She doesn't like
those cities. Those are like awesome cities. I gotta talk
to Aan.
Speaker 8 (29:41):
I gotta talk to her
