Speaker 1 (00:00):
I wake up at 1230, 1245 in the morning with
the most violent.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Food poisoning I've ever had in my life.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
So not only did I miss my girlfriend's video and
also I went and did it and I was so
worried about like saying, Oh, I can't, you know, I
didn't want to make up an excuse why I couldn't go.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Cause I thought karma would bite me in the ass. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I am puking so hard from whatever sushi I had.
I peed my pants. It was like, that's how violent.
And I'm thinking to myself, I did the right thing.
I'm missing the shoot. I'm hosting this thing and I
still got sick.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We are back. We are back. We are back. And
I would say better than ever, but I don't know
if we're better than ever.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
We're just back and we're excited to.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Be with you guys. The Calm Down community. We love you.
We've missed you. If you didn't feel you, we hear you.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
If you didn't listen to the pregame this week, the
pregame for those of you that are new here to
this platform are, it's a little thing that we do
earlier in the week, answer some of your questions. But
as we mentioned on that, we took a little bit
of a hiatus before the season started. And then I
kept getting questions, even sweet Brian Dayball, when I did
a preseason game in Tennessee, he's like, are you and
(01:17):
Aaron still doing that podcast? So yes, we are definitely
still doing the podcast. We are so excited to be
back with you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
We just, you know, you had to take a little,
a little mini break and we are ready to go.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
The season is here. We are already headed into week four,
which is hard to believe. When you really think about,
you know, the NFL is so incredible for so many reasons,
but it's like that thing. It's a blessing and a
curse where every week matters, but then it's like before
you know it, it's over. So week four, Aaron's fresh
off a plane from Buffalo, looking fresh as can be.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Look at you. You look fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Well, don't let it, I probably about an hour. Once
we wrap this up, I'll hit a wall. We, um,
that's a hike. We've, we talked about it in the pregame.
I've put on the miles already, not complaining, but we've
just had a lot of games on the East coast.
And so, um, we did the four, five hour flight
back from Toronto. missed you guys last night, but yeah, we,
(02:12):
we crushed it in the Sheraton airport bar. Got to
watch the Rams and the Denver Broncos last night. What
a game, the ending of the Dallas Cowboys game. Holy moly. I,
we actually were together, which is a rare thing. We
went to the Monday night football game. We were in
town and that was such a, it was great, but
it was such a bummer. We were together when Jackson
(02:33):
Dart went down and then neighbors. And we were just like, no,
this can't be happening. Cause I had just come from
Dallas where we've lost Jade and Daniel. So that's the
one part of like, so excited football is back, but
hate when we lose our stars or really anyone.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Completely.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And that, you know, the theme so far this season,
and it started with Sam Darnold in the first season
going out for the Seahawks. He's now back, but then
Kyler Murray went out for the first two weeks. He
had Jaden Daniels. You worked that game.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Williams. We record this podcast on Monday and the Monday
night game. He won't be playing a case. Keenum is
playing like there's just so look, unfortunately we're not telling
you guys anything. You don't know that are part of
the league, but it just feels like, so many, so quick, um,
here in the early goings.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
It's so unfortunate, but, um, yeah, it's funny though. When
Aaron and I were at the game, the Rams game. Yeah.
I like people wouldn't get this story, tell this story.
So we very rarely get to go obviously to a
game together because we're working different games on Sunday on
the road. I'm in studio Thursday, whatever we get it.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
So we go to the Rams game, but we are
sitting in seats where we were, which is obviously great,
but we don't have any, so we have these things
in our ears called IFBs. And it's to hear the announcers,
it's to hear Kevin and Tom, it's to hear Al
and Kirk from me.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Or even when.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
I sit on set on Sundays and do game breaks,
it's like you hear all the different games.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
So anyways, you have the game in your ear. Well,
Aaron and I are sitting there watching it watching the
game and we're like, what's happening? I hate this. I
like had so many questions. And then, cause the experience
I have to say, look, going to a game is awesome.
It really is.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
However, the NFL television experience has gotten so good that
watching it in your living room is fantastic between the replays, between,
you know, the commentary, all of this stuff, you really
get the entire experience, but the shots, We were like,
so when Malik neighbors went down, we were like, wait,
and then we were like trying to find a monitor,
(04:44):
a monitor. We're trying to find a TV to like
see what happened. And then with Jackson dark going down
and all these things. And it's so hard when you're
just watching from your seats, I can see why people
honestly have. like a NFL package where they watch it
on their phone and listen that way while being at
the game, because we were, you would have thought that
we had never been to a football game before.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
We're like, what's happening.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
We don't know, you know, watching Jackson. I saw the
cart come out. I'm like, Oh my God, I'm texting
with our crew to find out the Intel. So that
was interesting to be at a game and not have,
the info right there in our ear to hear Troy's call,
to hear what was going on. So that was, uh,
but it was fun to be there and obviously see
our friends and, um, you know, get out in the
(05:24):
streets with the, with the fans.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
We never get to do that. Well, you get to,
we do, but we don't, we do, but we don't,
we don't. Where are you? Uh, this week you're going
to Philly.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I have Rams at Philly, which is an intriguing, fantastic matchup.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Um, and what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (05:42):
I'm doing a classic AFC North smash mouth football. We've
got these Steelers and the Browns, which by the way,
both these teams went on Sunday. So they're sitting at
two and one. The winner of this game on Thursday
comes out and is three and one. And why that's
interesting is because both these teams, some question marks headed
into the season, obviously a lot more for Cleveland with
(06:03):
the quarterback situation and whatnot. But like, I mean, you
look at them like three and one through week four, as.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Opposed to looking at a team like the Chargers, you.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Just had them on Sunday, like it's, it's, you start
digging yourself that hole of Owen three or, you know,
like it's tough to get out of those.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Um, and history will tell you, I think it's like.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Only 3% of teams that start Owen three make the playoff. So,
so much already happening in the league in week four,
but it's also why we love it. So, um, off
and running what, um, what happened on the road that
so far that you can like, cause you always have
like funny stories.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Something. So we went to Buffalo. You already went to
the new stadium. It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
You had said that it's fantastic. Um, obviously their older
stadium was old and this is an incredible upgrade.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
It was gorgeous. I, we had got great stuff. Yes.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Uh, when we talked to Josh Allen this week, um,
just absolutely the best to deal with. And, um, he
was talking about, um, you know, playing in a new
home and he had, uh, Tom Brady had said, oh,
so you don't have to deal with weather because of
the canopy. And he said, no, we still do. And
he's like, the wind is probably about half of what
we deal with at the old stadium, but I still
(07:18):
have to figure out the wind patterns in this place.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Thought that was fascinating. Um, right.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Tackle Spencer Brown got to talk to him this week.
He was phenomenal. You know, I was even thinking about
doing a segment about offensive linemen on this show every
week that I talked to.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
You, these guys are the best. And He was so great.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
He was like, it's like spending the night in your
new house for the first night. You're like, okay, I
live here, but this is weird. And he was just
talking about your game on that Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
So, so sweet.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
But then I started noticing as I was standing on
the field yesterday, there was a smoke that was coming
in that you could see on camera. And it was like, Ooh,
is that after a score or like a firework? No,
it was the grill's And the wind was carrying the
smoke in. It smells like one big giant barbecue that
smells fantastic. No, I think from inside the concourse, it
(08:10):
was like you could smell hamburgers, hot dogs, and buffalo
wings on the grill. I looked over at Sweet Clinton,
our security, and I.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Go, I'm starving.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
He goes, this smells so good. But it was like
a smoky haze from the barbecue. And Of course, my
dumb ass, when Josh comes over, I'm like, this place
is great, but that barbecue smell is insane.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
He goes, yeah, it smells real good. Right. It's, it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
So there's different stadiums that have, you know, each, each town,
each stadium, whatever has a different feel.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I was in green Bay for last Thursday's game. They
were not happy. They snapped a streak of.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
They lost their first home opener in 13 seasons. The
last time they lost a home opener, Aaron Rogers was
in his fifth season as a Packer. Like that's how
long it's been. um, since they lost a home opener,
they lost the Falcons, but there's different experiences. So Buffalo
is one of those towns, like that entire, like if
you wanted to rob a house and I'm not encouraging
(09:05):
anyone to rob a house and I've been robbed.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
If you wanted to rob a house though, in Buffalo,
that's a good time to do it. Because if you,
if you know, people are at the game, there's nothing
else going on. It's very green Bay ask.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
No, you're annoyed of these stupid headlines. Carissa encourages robbers. No,
but I'm saying that the town, same thing when green Bay,
like The town is football. And so for Buffalo getting
a new stadium, it was such a.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
I think that just talking to people there, like they
were torn because like the nostalgia of the old Highmark
Stadium and also to have like, I know it's like, oh,
it's just a new stadium.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
It's not. That's like a way of life. And it's
so cool. And so we had Gronk out there. I
don't know if you saw any of it on the
pregame because you had the early game preview.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I didn't see him, but I saw him on the sidelines.
He prided himself on being a sideline reporter. We'll talk
about that after. Go ahead. For those of you that
don't know, he's from Buffalo, but of course spent his
entire career playing for the new England Patriots for people
that don't know how the division.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Break down, the Patriots and the bills are in the
same division. And as Tom Brady said, so fucking funny
on the broadcast, which was great feeling himself, feeling himself.
It was very funny.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
I did love it when he's like, Oh yeah, I
lost three games in that old stadium or two games,
whatever it was.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
And he's like two games. normally I'd be pissed, but
I won 33 other games. The Patriots own the Bills
for that entire tenure of Brady's dominance in the league.
But anyways, I say all this to say that the
Bills are good.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
And this is an organization that, I don't know, again,
for those of you that aren't familiar with football, went
to four straight Super Bowls and lost all four. This
is a community that lives for their team.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
And so to have, so.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Gronk being from Buffalo went back and it was just great.
We had him in the pregame and he was like being,
you know, I need Gronk on the road every single week.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's where I need him out with the people. He is,
as you always talk about him, he's Mickey mouse. He
doesn't love Gronk. Like he's a guy that beat up
on the bills and like he goes back in and
they're all like, we love Gronk. There's no one that
doesn't love him.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Anyways, if any of you get a chance to go
to Buffalo and, taken a game, I highly encourage you
do it or green Bay or, I mean, I don't know.
Those are just the two that stand out the most
to me in terms of fan experiences.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Like, but yeah, I love it. I love that. We've
both been there.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
I know he, he got two quick questions with Josh
before the game and, um, he, I was standing there
watching him and afterwards he's the best.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
And he always, whenever he says hello to you, he's like, yo, Aaron,
what's up? Yo, Carissa, what's up? Like, it's just him.
It's so great.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
And you can't help, but just go hug him. Like,
I just want to hug him. So I went over
and I was like, Robert, give me a hug.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
And I gave him one.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
He goes, Hey, I just did your, your job. I
was a sideline reporter. I was like, yeah, I know
I wanted to do it. And I said, how'd it go?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
And he goes, great.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
I started off by introducing him as Harper's dad. That's
the name of Josh's son.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Is that right? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Or sorry, daughter. And he goes, I came up with
that myself. He's the best. Like, it's just, you can't
help but smile and your face hurts when you're around him.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
And anyone that's like, is that really how he is
all the time? Yes. It's exactly how he is. And
we've both worked with Rob, not just.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
On TV, but like in different, like, I don't know,
business opportunities or different things like that.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
He is the guy. Cause sometimes people, when you work
with them, like, Oh, I don't want to do this.
Or I don't want to do that interview. I don't
want to do that. I was like, no problem. We're
getting paid great money to do this. Isn't this awesome?
It's like, I wish everybody had that attitude.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Like he is just pure sunshine and we love you Gronk.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
So he's the best, the best, the best.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
I do have a story already in week three about
trials and tribulations of the road, which I bet.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
People could, we should coin it. We need to have
So in an effort to have.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Different segments, because the TV minds of us like to
coin things, I kind of want to open it up
to get it sponsored, calm down community. What are some
segments that you want us to have weekly?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Like, is it so like we do headlines sometimes, or
obviously the pregame is its own thing, but like, are
there certain things you want us to talk about every week,
whether it's the road trials and tribulations on the road?
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Like, I don't know. I just love, I would love
your guys's feedback too, as well. the listeners, because sometimes
when we do all the talking, we're not actually knowing
what we're saying. So what do you want to hear
from us? I see a whole graphic coming up with
like planes, trains, automobiles, like postcards, Aaron and Carissa's trials
and tribulations of the road sponsored by, all right guys.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
This is your time to show us. I love it.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
So we go, uh, one of the great things about traveling, um,
even though sometimes it's, it's hard and hard on your
body as we go as a group, like there's a,
you have your group. We go with Dean and Kevin
and I, sometimes Casey, um, we're all together. So heading
to Toronto and then we drove across the border to
get to Buffalo on Saturday. It was Dean Blandino, Kevin
(14:06):
Burkhart and myself.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
So we take an early flight. It was an international flight.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
I think it left at either, my pickup was at
6 a.m., not that bad. We get there, we do
a quick loungy, make loungers and get a cup of coffee.
Then we get on the plane together. I have a question. Sorry,
I don't mean to interject. Because I think this is interesting,
even to people like maybe listening. Are you texting them
(14:31):
and saying like, meet in the lounge? Or like, what's
the communication like It's great.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
It's great. Over-communicating everything. Same. We just got here. We
just got there. Where are you at? And then if
we don't have one, we're like, where's Sherm? Okay. He's
flying in. We're like constantly talking. Okay. Same, same, same, same.
Kevin and I live a lot closer to LAX than
Dean does. Dean lives Newport. So he, he takes a
minute to get there.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Carissa, I have a panic attack at 5.15 in the morning.
I haven't even taken my Invisalign out. And Dean is
texting us from the gate going, got here a little early.
And I'm thinking, holy shit, am I late? And Kevin said,
I wasn't even up yet. Dean's like, well, I didn't
know what to expect. International flight. So I'm like, Invisalign out.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Hurry, hurry, hurry. He's the guy that shows up two
hours early for the flight. Yeah. Yeah. You're definitely the
rules guy. We know, yeah, the official. Throw that flag. Relax. Challenge.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
So I get to the airport before Kev, and I said,
where am I meeting you? And I.
Get really, I can crush an air. I can't do
much in life, but I can crush an airport. I
can crush a concourse. I can crush expedia.com. I can
figure out a flight.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I got you. Um, but anything else.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
So, but international flying, I like lose, like, I'm like,
I can't, I can't see, I don't know where I am.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I have the flu. Like I turn weird.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
I can't physically hold my own passport every five seconds.
I'm having the like, where, where is it? Where it's,
it's in your pocket.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Relax. So anyways, I traveled, you give it to Jared though.
When I do too, I don't, I don't give us
that extra piece of paper. What am I doing with it?
Do I have to keep it? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
And then it's like, are you not going to let
me back in the country? If I don't have that
one piece of paper from Cabo San Lucas that I
was filling out on the plane with a pen, I
borrowed from five seats behind me.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Cause who had the pen available when going to Cabo? Yes.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Yes. It's so, it's so frightening. So anyways, I get
to the terminal, the air Canada terminal. And I just
am like, Hey, where are you? And Dean's like, I'm
in the lounge. I call him right away. I'm like,
where's the lounge? He's like, read the signs. It's like
four feet in front of me.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
I feel like I'm in France right now. I don't
know where I am.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
So we get to the lounge. So yes, Kevin shows up.
Now we head to the plane.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
We're seated. We all have our iPads out. We Ready
to grind. Another question. Sorry. Do you like to sit
next to them? Yes. Yes. Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
But we don't. And you know the only reason why
is because it's safe. And not that I don't feel
safe with anybody else because I kind of get in
a foxhole and I start grinding it out.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
But it's like, you know what I mean? I know
you're not reading my shit. Why do you think I
tell you about the privacy screens? I'm still going to
put it on. I got to do it. I know,
but I don't, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
So sitting next to each other. Yeah. Got it. We
got to start doing more of that. Cause we're always like,
where are you at? Where are you at? And it's like,
why didn't we figure this out? Anywho.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
So we're down in the foxhole. We're all on, we're, we're,
you know, glasses are on cleaning the glasses, put on
my compression socks.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Here we go. They're getting ready to show. Look, I'm
worried about blood clots. I just am. I'm like elevating
my legs. I haven't done the, I haven't done the
compression socks though. Do they really help?
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I swell. I swell. Anyways.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
So we're on, you can tell like boarding is starting
to end soon. It's starting to end. All of a
sudden my man gets on, not sure who he is.
We're calling him sandals. And I'm not judging people that
are wearing sandals on.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
A flight, but I looked down, I saw his feet.
He gets on, he is on the phone and it's like, yeah, yeah, no,
she's great. She's great. And this is how loud he's talking.
And it is six 45, sir. Yeah. Yeah. She's great.
She's great. Yep.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
No, I know.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Oh, well I'll send over the deal in a bit.
It is loud.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Then we can't get the bag up. We can't get
the bag up and we're shoving it in and we're
breaking the upper thing. So then one, a sits down, one,
a sits down.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
I'm in the back. Kevin there, Dean's there. They're all turning.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
They're not, we're not sitting with this person, but we're
all now turning around. Like Is this guy on something?
Like he's loud.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
He's on the phone. Then we start doing the ladies
and gentlemen, welcome to air Canada. The exits are here.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
So, um, I'm going to send the deal over and
this is how it's going.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
And the sweet, sweet flight attendant is looking around and I,
and I hear me, I start texting Kevin and Dean,
we're going to have to land in the middle of
the flight and get this guy off. Kevin's like, this
guy is the one that's going to be duct taped
to the seat. Four times, the flight attendant says, sir,
you have to turn your phone off.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
He turns it off. He puts it back.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
He calls again. Then he starts looking out the window,
but still talking loud. Hey, so, yeah, did you get
the deal?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
I know. It's a PDF.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
I'm like, throw the fucker off the flight. He's in 1A.
We've decided now. we are going to call everyone annoying,
not paying attention, or just doesn't get it 1A.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
That's for now. Hey, 1A, what's up? Okay, perfect.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
He's also the guy that as the sweet woman, older
woman that... you know, we're helping her get her luggage down.
Dean's helping her. He's like, hey, hold on one second.
I just don't want you to hit your head.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Hey, she's elderly. She was here first. 1A, you go
sit down, you know? This, well, and again- What is
wrong with you?
Speaker 1 (20:04):
For anyone that's new to the Calm Down podcast, we
will talk a lot about travel, trials, and tribulations, which
is what we're calling it right now until we have
a different name for it.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Or maybe this will be the name. Sponsored. Because Erin
and I travel once a week during football season, sometimes
twice a week during football season.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
So that's a big part of our life during this
time from September to February. So if you don't like
travel stories, if you don't like traveling, this might not
be the podcast for you. We have discussed this, this
idea that when you get on an airplane, it is
your private, it's your home. It's your private little, you know,
(20:43):
that you get to talk as loud or we're FaceTiming
or what?
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Not everybody else wants to hear all of that. I
don't understand. We'll just lose our, our, our goddamn minds
when you're in this confined thing.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
And, or when you get off the plane, the people
that are like impeding in your, like, it's, it's the
same thing in a church. This pew goes, this pew goes,
like we each take our turn. The people that try
to get up there or the early pre-boarders, you know,
that's my thing. If you're not in section one, two, three, four,
and you're in section eight, then get back to section
eight and you'll board then. It's, I just, I don't
(21:17):
understand why. And I've, I urge anyone out there that
writes comedy, why we do not have a show that
was like The Office, but is centered around airports. Because
the comedy that exists and the frustrations, but like it's
a universal comedy and, you know, in all this, hence
the Larry David aspect of life. We, we all, we
(21:41):
all see these things when we travel and it's just,
it's insane that these kinds of people exist or like
the people that are in the TSA line and like,
they don't, they don't like, anticipate that they're coming up next.
So let's get the shoes off. Let's get the suitcase up.
Let's get the toiletries out. Like, what have you been
doing this entire time? Now we find like, it's a
big surprise. Once you get up there that you're supposed
to do all this. Now you're holding up the rest
(22:02):
of the line.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Wake up.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
I know that's me though, with the passport. It's like,
I was boarding today and I was like, Oh my God,
where is it? And Dean's like, I don't know where
it is. Hey, we should talk to our friend Dakota
about doing a.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Show like this. Yeah. Let's do it. Speaking of Dakota. Um, okay. Okay.
So there, is that the fiddle? Is that what you're
talking about? A Celtic fiddle, she said. Yeah. So you
(22:34):
guys are familiar.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
If you're not, we affectionately refer to our, my boyfriend,
Aaron's husband as the plus ones.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
They have been on the podcast before.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
They also have teased us for two years that they're
going to start their own podcast called the plus one podcast.
It's never happening, but we affectionately love and refer to
them as the plus ones. Or America's guests. Or America's guests, exactly.
The plus ones had the ultimate plus one situation happen.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Last night, the debut of Taylor's video for one of
her four new songs that is out called Patient Zero debuted.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
For those of you that are, it was, it was
so good. It was just, and we'll get to all
of the things that we love about that in a minute.
If you blinked, um, or had to rewind and thought,
did I see what was, was that, was that Steve?
Was that Jarrett? Yes. The answer is yes. You did
(23:40):
in fact see Matthew Stafford, Kelly Stafford, Jarrett Stoll, and
Stephen Kondary in Taylor Swift's new video. And how did
this happen? Erin, would you like to start us off?
And I will fill in the blanks.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Yeah, so this is going to be my Larry Davidism
because this, in fact, is a whole episode. So our
tremendously incredible, very talented, just giving, amazing, thoughtful friend reaches
out and invites our entire group fantastic friend group to
(24:17):
be a part of this incredible video, which we didn't
know this song.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
We didn't know anything. Hey guys. Hey guys.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
It was a, I think it was a voice note.
So do you want to be in my new music video?
And like all these different things, I can't play the song,
but this is what we'll do.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
And this, it'd be the end of that. And I'm
listening to the voice note and I'm like, do I
want to be in a Taylor Swift music video?
Speaker 1 (24:40):
The answer is always yes, yes, yes, and yes. Now,
this is where the unfortunate part for Erin and I
comes into play.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Erin and I were the only two that were unable
to be in this music video.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
But then, so when I say, I was like, I can't,
I just, so I can't be in the video because
it is, this is happening in March. She calls and
asks us to be in the video, which by the way,
like what? Like that's incredible. Like so fucking cool. Yeah. Like,
let's just put it in perspective for a second. Forget
the fact that like, yes, we love her and we are,
(25:18):
you know.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Grateful to her friend and all those kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
But, but just from a, in a separate silo as
an artist, as one of the greatest songwriters of all time,
one of the greatest performers of all time, like all
of these things who just in that silo to have
that person call, it'd be like if Michael Jackson called
and was like, Hey, want to be in my music video?
I'd be like, yeah, I want to be in your
music video, Michael Jackson. Thank you so much. So when
(25:43):
that phone call or voice note happens, You're already.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Like, what?
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Like, is this real life? Okay.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Well, then I am my, I it's March football season
has just ended. So I'm going to do all the
things that I can't do during football season that require downtime.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
This particular case, we're talking CO2 laser. If anyone's ever
had a CO2 laser, then you'll understand that there is no, like.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
We're putting makeup on and we can make this work.
You can't, you can't. you are swollen.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
We are, we've got like scab. I mean, this is,
but like, it's like a very, very serious laser. I'd
never done it before, but I was like, I want
to try this. And it requires like at least like
a month of downtime, maybe like two weeks, whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Anyways. So They say sometimes with those four weeks. Right.
It was not, this was not a quick thing. And
I had just got it done.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
I think Samantha sex in the city for our old
friend out there.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Girl is staying in this house March. Cause then I
have to go do something for the masters in April.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
So I'm like, this is perfect. I'll knock this out
in March and I'll be ready to go. We didn't
have trips planned.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Like for our friend group, that was pretty much a
clear time for all of us. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Two days after.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Work has been done, the voice note comes in and
I'm like, no, of all the times that I could
have like, but it's like, I can't, I literally can't.
So I told her, I was like, you're incredible. I
love you so much for.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Asking and thinking and everybody, I can't do it. So
then she's like, well, great. But Steve can do it.
Cause of course, Steve, Would love to do it. Well,
Jared's available. Exactly. I'm upstairs.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
I remember this vividly because the voice note was just
to you and I, right? And then she was like,
ask the boys if they want to.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Be in it. No, it was to our whole group.
It was to everybody. Okay. Then maybe Steve hadn't listened
to it yet because I was like, I'm like, Steve.
I'm like screaming from upstairs. And he comes up, he's like,
what's going on? I was like, Taylor's asked us all
to be in a music video and I can't be
in the music video. Cause I just had the laser,
but you get to be in the video.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
And I'm now I'm like, now I'm, now I'm mad
at Steve. I'm mad at Steve that he gets to
be in the video. And I can't because I have
chose to do an elective laser. And then I go
in a whole thing, but I have to do it
to try to look young on TV. And like, now
I'm like, now I'm down a goddamn rabbit hole of
how somehow this is Steve should not be blamed at
all for this. But now I'm mad at Steve that
he gets to do something that I don't get to
(28:13):
do because I chose to do an elective laser.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
It's just like classic. So, um, You go your, your
reason why you can't go. No, it's, uh, it's, uh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
So to catch up where Chris is, she gets the
voice note. I get the voice note.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I'm actually at.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Like a speaking engagement and, um, I get the voice
note and she, you know, she's, Hey guys, it's going
to be. And I think to myself, don't say Tuesday,
don't say Tuesday, don't say Tuesday. And she's like, it's
on Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
All right.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
On Tuesday, I had committed a year in advance, like
the prior year, to host, to emcee an event in Washington, D.C.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
It was a great event. It was Peyton Manning.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
It was Marcus Freeman. It was Don Staley, like huge people,
all these politicians. A year in advance, I had committed
to it. And I said, yes, I would do it.
Never in a million years would I have canceled. But
I did call my manager and my agent. And I
just said, you guys... Is there anything we can do?
Is there like a jet that could get me back
and forth? Like, what could I do? Like Taylor literally asked,
(29:22):
and I want to be a part of this. And,
you know, we were looking into flights. We were looking
into like a plane.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I'm like, I don't care. I'll pay for it. Like anything.
How long does the shoot last?
Speaker 1 (29:34):
I did the right thing. And I said, even if
I had said, oh, I can't go, I'll get sick.
I was like, there's no way I'll do that because
I don't want to get sick.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Like that would be karma. Karma is my boyfriend. Nope.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I'm not, I'm going to do the right thing. I
would never think about like saying, Oh, I'll get sick.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Cause guess what? You'll get sick. So I went and
did the event. I go do the event. I leave.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I'm so sad. Chris and I are just commiserating together.
We're sending text messages. Of course, our boyfriends and our
husbands get to do this. Of course, we're happy for them,
but damn it. Yeah, we are happy.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
We are. We're bummed that you couldn't be in the video.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
You have to work and my vanity is getting in
the way because I'm trying to stay young so I
could be on TV.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Okay, yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
So I go to DC to go do the event.
And thankfully, I work with people that I love. And
my good friend Derek is there on my behalf to
be there for me with the event. And we go
get sushi the night before. And the next day is
the video shoot. And the next day is the speaking engagements.
I go get sushi with Derek, go to bed probably
(30:37):
around 11. I say to my husband, I love you
so much. They're waking up early to go meet Taylor
to go shoot the video.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Love you so much. I'm so jealous. I booked a
Barry's class. I'm going to go work out in the morning.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
I wake up at 1230, 1245 in the morning with
the most violent food poisoning I've ever had in my life.
So not only did I miss my girlfriend's video and
also I went and did it and I was so
worried about like saying, oh, I can't, you know, I
didn't want to make up an excuse why I couldn't
go because I thought karma would bite me in the ass.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
I am puking so hard from whatever sushi I had.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
I peed my pants. It was like, that's how violent.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
And I'm thinking to myself, I did the right thing.
I'm missing the shoot. I'm hosting this thing and I
still got sick. So now I am sick the next day,
but I still made, obviously, the speaking engagement. I am hearing,
and I didn't sleep because I was up all night sick.
My husband is driving to the video. Oh my God,
(31:44):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
How are you, babe? Well, I've been up vomiting since 1230.
Have a great time at the shoot. Best of luck. what?
Speaker 1 (31:54):
I mean, it's like you do the right thing and
you're still puking and peeing your pants.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Oh my God. It was classic.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
And so then I was like, okay, well I'm, yes,
I can't be on camera because I can't cover up
this laser redness out the whole thing. And so I
was like, I'm going to go and be on behalf
of both of us. I'm going to represent us and
I'm still going to go and be supportive. And she's like,
just come like, whatever. And so Kelly and Matthew are
in the shoot and the girls, they're going to bring
the girls, of course, because hello, why are we not
(32:22):
going to bring those cuties and go have a front
row seat?
Speaker 2 (32:25):
What an experience. Exactly.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
And To watching the baddest bitch do her thing. That's
what I wanted to see. Her control a room and
do all of this and see it. So the next
best thing, since I couldn't be in the video, I
was like, I want to see how this badass woman
fucking runs this thing. So it was the most incredible,
the second most incredible thing would have been having been
(32:49):
in it. Second best thing was sitting there. And let
me just tell you, I already respect it. Like you
do already respect her for so many different reasons, right?
As an artist, as a business woman, as all of
the different things that she did, the way that she
runs stuff, like you and I learn things from her
all the time. And we talk about it, but watching
her run this shoot with such grace, with such kindness,
(33:15):
with such professionalism, it was a masterclass on how to
do things.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
And we've been on a lot of different sets.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
We've been around a lot of different people there. there
is no better person than on a set, the way
that she speaks to the audio people, the cameramen, the
craft services.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
It is just for.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Anybody that tries to have any sort of 1A behavior,
knock it off. Because if you can have the biggest
star in the world, act like the most, the kindest person,
there's no reason. And not only the kindness, but then
she's like, here, I wrote, I'm directing, I'm starring in.
And she just like orchestrated everything to perfection. It was
awesome to watch that. I really, I walked out of
(33:55):
there with even more respect for her than I already
had for her as a professional in that industry that
I don't know anything about. And also, let me say
a shout out to those Stafford parents, to Kelly and Matthew,
The fact that those four little girls were on a
movie set or basically a movie set because the way
that video came out and you guys saw it were incredible.
(34:17):
To get four little girls for eight hours like on
a set and shout out to Andrea Swift who brought
friendship bracelets for the girls to spend time and make those.
she brought books, she brought t-shirts, she brought all of
this stuff to like entertain the girls. Like that says
everything about that family. Like who thinks like, Hey, the
girls are going to probably want to have stuff to
do while they sit there and watch their mom and
(34:38):
dad in this video.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
It just was, it was such a cool experience.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
I'm bummed that you and I couldn't be a part
of it, but like it was really, really special. And
then seeing the video come out yesterday, like how beautiful
that gorgeous awesome.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
So Yay. Congrats, Taylor. Congrats to the plus one. Yes.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Kelly and Dakota and Colin, you guys just like crushed.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
And Taylor, chef's kiss. Always chef's kiss.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Speaking of chef and craft services, I smiled when you
said that. I think Jared at that point was afraid
to talk to me after he left because I had
gotten sick and I had missed it. And he knew
how great it was because you guys all had such
a good time. But when he finally got in the
car and he called me, I was like, how was it?
It was amazing how he's like, babe, she's so incredible.
(35:27):
And she brought us in and we got to see
all this stuff. We got to be in her dressing
room and we were eating lunch with her. And he goes, babe,
I got to tell you the craft services, unbelievable. The
omelet station was incredible. And I was like, and our
clothes we got and Kelly looks so beautiful. And I
was like, and he was just going on and on
about craft services. And I was like, yes, but how
was our friend? Like, how did that work out with her?
(35:49):
Tell me about senior. He's like this omelet. I mean,
we just sat in her room and we ate with her.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
And I was like, Oh God, it was. And let's
not get confused. Yes.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
As much fun as I was having watching her do
her thing. I was like, Steve, don't fucking talk to
me enough.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
He keeps coming over. He keeps coming. Isn't this incredible?
Isn't it? We're afraid of us. We get to, we
get to keep the talks. We get to keep the talks.
The shoes. She's giving us the shoes.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
And I was like, after, after like the first couple
hours of encouragement, I was like, don't fucking talk to
me anymore. This is the video that I wanted to
be in and I can't be in it. So I
don't want to hear how much fun you're having.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Get out there and get out of here. I just
was like, we got in the car and he's like,
are you really mad? I was like, no, I'm just bummed.
But yeah, anyways, video is beautiful. It was quite an experience,
but it's also just so Jared and Steve, like. Matthew,
you're the MVP of the league. Kelly, you're a supermodel,
the greatest mom in the whole world. Like those, those
things should happen to you guys.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Steve and Jared, not to take anything away from them
because they're also fantastic, but it's such a Jared and
Steve thing. It is. People like we stumble into shit.
They stumble into like a fucking rainbow with a.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Pot of gold. National treasure. What are we doing? God.
But maybe that's for karma because they're really great guys.
So anyways, that's that. It is zero. Also, I learned
about some little things last night that I can't- You did?
I want to hear.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Because I never want to ask, but then when she's telling- Oh,
I can't wait to hear.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
I can't wait to hear. I can't wait to hear.
I can't wait to hear. It was gorgeous. It was gorgeous.
It was gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Wait, can I get a little sentimental really quick? And
then I'm sure we can wrap this up. You were
talking about Kelly being an amazing mom, and I also-
We give her credit all the time for being an
amazing wife as well and watching her last night on
television with the ups and downs of emotions because she's
there and the cameras are there and they get her.
(37:45):
And also seeing our friend accept the award and put
out this basically movie and do her thing on the
red carpet. And then our other girlfriend who's in Miami
cheering on her husband who's just coming back from an injury,
massive injury, and he's leading his team to being 3-0
as well. And then you doing your thing. We have
(38:06):
such a great, we talk about our guy friends all
the time, but I just, I'm so proud of this
little group we have right now of our girlfriends and
the support for each other that we have. It was
so nice. Like, you know, we've, I just, damn, I
think it's so cool. And like, you know, obviously Taylor
was so supportive of wear last week.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Kelly's in the stands wearing it.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
And then it's like, we're shouting out to, you know, our, um,
our girlfriends and their husbands and how they're playing. It's
just like, I saw a picture of Taylor and Dakota
last night and it was like women supporting women. And
I was having this moment last night when we were
all texting each other about, um, yeah, things in our lives.
And I just thought I was really, really grateful. I
(38:47):
thought it was such a cool moment. So shout out
to our girls. I love that because there's also, and
you and I, um, I think that as we've moved
through this Like life, you know, but also like the
industry and stuff like that. And I've talked about before
the value of female friendships. And yes, we love our
guy friends, as you mentioned, but as.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
I've gotten older, the value of female relationships, authentic female relationships.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
And supporting each other, whether it's where or the music video.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
And it doesn't even have to be something that grand.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Just a simple, like, check-in text or those kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Like, it is really, really special.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
And I and I feel that way too, and not
to bring it back to this, but like this calm
down community. Like I, like, I like, thank you to
anyone that like sent a DM, like we miss you guys.
And like, that means a lot because this is something
we started five years ago with just like the motivation
to like have Aaron and I, you know, truly like
you and I just catch up once a week and
(39:47):
like have an hour to sit down, but what that's
turned into, I just think it's really special, but yeah,
women supporting women, what a concept and how far that
can go when you do it and take authentically.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
I don't know. We are back.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
We love you guys. Thank you for, uh, being a
part of this great, this great community. We've got a
lot of great things coming, including Aaron has a tease with.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
I can't wait. She hasn't even told me. Okay, I
can't wait. All right. We will see you guys next week.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Mwah.
