Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. Max Holloway checks in, my brother, thank you
so much for checking in.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Bro. Another big fight week. Man, it's like every time
last year. We're in New Orleans, now back in Las Vegas.
First off, did you enjoy being down there in New Orleans?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I loved it? Bro?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Did you stay and eat afterwards? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, we stayed today. We got to eat a bunch
of food, so we loved it. Bro.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Would you have everything?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
What? What did we not have?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Bro?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Crocodile was actually really good? You all alligator? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:39):
You like it? Yeah? Chicken?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
What the hell?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I can't eat like anything? Like, I can't look at you, Bro,
I can't eat.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
You're so white. Bro, you're so white, so you actually
don't because I'm more so than you.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
That's crazy. Bro. This guy is crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Bro. Do you remember when I found out your name
was Jerome?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
It was crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Wait what is this? What is his middle name?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Ryan? I found out?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
You guys want to know how I found out your
name was Ryan?

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Bro?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
We got he called it uber and they're like Ryan.
I was like, I thought, what the fuck is Ryan?

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Though?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
We don't have no Ryan. We're not with no white guys. Like,
I'm Ryan stupid.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I'm like because you know, sometimes you know, people call
you to come to get you.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, whatever, Ryan, you're sweating so much.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I know because you keep me the whole time.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I want to call you Ryan from No, not Daniel.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
When I found out your name was Jerome, it was
the craziest. It made sense as to why you move
so fast you can fight the way you fight.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, Ryan, that makes sense. Why you don't move so fast?
Perfect and your wrestler, Ryan.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Holy Ship, Oh my god, bro back in Vegas. How
good is it feel?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
It feels good, feels good. I know you know how
it is over here. It's called the Ninth Island. He's
going to have a bunch of our lines in that
and Timo Mareno. It's to fight Capital. Oh my gosh,
I just can't wait. My BMF title on the line,
main event. Can beat it.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
You know when we were when we were talking to
New Orleans, we talked about like your goals and your aspirations,
and obviously it's still to become a champion. When you
won that fight, right and remain the BMF champion beating
the guy Dustin for you're retiring him, did it feel
like it gets you closer. Do you feel like that win?
If you win this one this weekend, you can stand

(02:34):
and go, hey, now I think I deserve a chance
to fight for the Underspeed Championship.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Oh for sure, for sure, you know what I mean.
And not only that because I have history with Poler
the guys you know, and I have history with the
intrum title holder. I have history holder lights went out.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
No because your guy guy like bumping into the thing
with his shoulder b jackass as Charles Olivero kind of
look like, y' yeah what his hairline?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
But do you feel you just make fun of everybody? Right,
It's like nobody's safe. But does it feel like you
know it puts you closer to that championship by defending
the belt this weekend?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Oh for sure? You know. Like like I was saying,
I have I have history with Justin Gaetgee, the interim
title holder. I I have issue with the undisputed title holder.
So at the end of the day, if I can
go out there, bro, and you know what it is,
if you go out there, you make a moment. That's
what UFC wants. Love, They want moments.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
If I imagine I go out there do a three
hundred moment again? You know what I mean, it would
be insane. You know, how do you deny that?

Speaker 1 (03:30):
But that's even the danger in that though, right, Like
you know that, right, You've been around the game so long,
you know that. How do you make sure you don't
try to chase that moment again? Because you go, if
I make it three hundred moment again, that's like once
in a lifetime, right, Like, But like, how do you
make sure that you don't find you know.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I mean, you know, go out there, stick to their
game plan and just keep putting on them, you know
what I mean, And then if the opportunity presents itself,
I'll go for it. I'm not going to chase it, right,
we have we have a fight, even with the Justin
Geechee fight. Right, the moment happened in the last ten seconds, Yeah,
I mean, like it is what it is. And so
if a moment can happen in the first and seconds,
if the moment can happen in the second round, whatever,
whenever the moment happens, you know, you chase those things.

(04:08):
But you got to be pretty smart to still be
at this elite level of competition.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
You know, yeah, for sure. You know, this isn't the
first time we've talked since this fight been announced. You
and I spoke before when the fight was announced and
we talked about Charles Olivera being the opponent, right, you
are a guy that gets these types of fights where
people just expect them to be explosive. When you got
the Olivera fight, like, what was the excitement level, knowing

(04:34):
that you guys have competed before, what was the excitement
level to fight a guy that's a champion like that
for the BMF time?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Exciting? Exciting? I mean, like I said, not many guys
get to fight for the BMF title, and then not
many guys' names. He's even thrown in the BMF title conversation,
you know, and then dad to have him a former champion,
another former champion, it's just amazing. And like you said,
we had history, but not really you know what I mean,
And he said a bunch of stuff and whatever that

(05:02):
was going on with the first fight, I mean, it
was a it did not live up to the hype.
So hopefully this fight we can right that wrong and
you know, and give the world what they want.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
When you think of Charles Olivera to fight it all?
What do you think of when you think Charles Olivera
the fighter? Because I'll tell you what we think as fans, right,
fans think we think a guy that can finish fights
on the feet, unbelievable submission artists, just a full long
champion and just a dog. But honestly, when you look
at a guy, you got to start searching for weaknesses

(05:32):
as his opponent. And Charles has had moments where he
has had his weakness has shown. How do you see
yourself dealing with like the pressure of Olivera? And do
you expect them to fight you in that way?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
He said it best. You know when before he was
jiu Jitsu Olivera. Now he's an Mma Olivera. And when
he's submitting these guys right, he's not He's not taking
him down and submitting him. He's cracking him on the
feet or hurting him on the feet and then submitting himself.
I think it's a very dangerous opponent. I mean, this
is like he said in his own words, Mma Olivera.

(06:03):
And I'm excited for it, you know what I mean?
We get to find out I think so one of
his uh I just is doing a bunch of interviews.
One of his Portuguese guys said, he said, the difference
between this fight and me and him is that he
can strike with me, but I cannot grapple with him.
And I'm like, whether this is MMA, so we get
to find out.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
But he said, and now he says, it's contridiculous that
that's why I don't.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I confuse And if he believes he can strike.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Maybe it was less like maybe it was lost in translations.
Yeah maybe maybe so maybe he was he probably believed that.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
If you believe it's striking me, we get to find
out come Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Man. So one, I truly believe that one of the
things that makes Olivera so able to survive when he
guys hurt him is when they hurt him, they are
so afraid to follow him to the ground that he
kind of lays on his back and he gets to recover.
We've seen the time and time again he gets dropped
and then they don't want to go down because of

(06:57):
the dangers. Are you willing to go down there? If
you hurt.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Him, we see what happens, you know, I mean, if
the moment is right, if we feel like we hurt
him a lot. Maybe we follow him. If not, if
I kN know on a hundred times, I'll tell him
get out if I need to, you know, if I
like he's playing because you don't know, he played pawsome,
this guy like he loves to play pawsome, you know,
sometimes you get hit he like he does his dance
thing and I'm like, brother, you're acting here, you know.
And and if the moment is right and we see

(07:22):
it and we feel like we actually heard him, we'll
go to it. But we see what happens.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
He has a style where he likes to press forward.
Do you think he fights you in that way? Especially
after the way to fight with the Poor happened where
he was trying to fight in that style, but you're
so like, you're fast, you're long, you move a lot.
Do you think OLIVERA is gonna stalk at you like
he did some of these other guys? And can you
take anything from that first fight?

Speaker 2 (07:45):
We see what happens, you know, we see what happens.
If he does that, I'm I'm not sure, you know,
I don't know what they do with Maybe he surprises
us and do something in the way else that we've
been watching, but we were ready for everything. We got
ready for everything and then acting him for the first
from the first fight. You can't take nothing away. We
were so young. That's like ten years ago. Yeah, I
mean that that that'd be if if me and him
was the same person ten years ago, we wouldn't be

(08:08):
where we're at in our careers. You know. We we
both grew as as as kids. You're as kids.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Why laughing?

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yeah, because now you're acting like a Daniel.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
They'll say, were you so trash? I would was so
big to your ears are so big. It's almost like
your face grew into your ears a little bit. Your picture,
it was like your face is huge. They were big
back when it's like the size of yours. Now, I
don't do that was the last time you had here?

(08:39):
Ask me? This is why you can't invite nobody on
your show like this dog. You just come and disrespect me.
So I want to ask you this. Right, the UFC
were fighting in the White House obviously in June, but
there's their national fight. We caught that BMF title could
also put you in a place where a guy in Comamcgregor,

(09:03):
who you have to my history with also right, could
potentially be there in June July. Would that be something
you would entertain if you know, you went about this
weekend and you say, man, I want to go and
kind of write that this dude needs an opponent. I'm
holding the b MF title. Would you consider him even
in that b MF conversation after he's been away as
long as he has, and is that something that you

(09:23):
would look at at doing? Oh?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
For sure?

Speaker 1 (09:26):
For sure?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Why not? You know what I mean? If if you
ever got your fat ass off the college, I'll fight you.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah in July. Yeah, man, I couldn't even get to
the fighting Wait in July. Every weight first time I
would beat yours.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
In an eating contest. Maybe not even that.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I'm I'm actually gonna go to Hawaii and I'm gonna
beat your ass.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Please come, please come and be my ass.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
You need it. Let's do it because you are bad off.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Actually, don do it because I want to get paid
for it. But but uh, back to your question. If
if that's if that's the fight, that's the fight.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (10:07):
We got to see what happens. How much times guys
here sitting and talking future rever sence when they're facing
Oliver and then they end up on the bad side. Yeah,
I got that focused. But if the Connor mcgrigo fight,
I'm gonna not.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
To take it, Yeah for sure. Max. Before I let
you go, I want to ask you this. You've been
around for so long, all all time greats, even Dustin Pourier, right,
because Dustin's not that old. But people start talking about retirement, retirement, retirement,
like when you're he going to retire? Is it almost over? Like?
But that doesn't happen with you, Like that's It's the

(10:40):
weirdest thing. Like I never hear people asking about when
Max Holloway is going to retire, Like is that surprising?
Because most guys that are champions and then they're not
the champion and they've been You've been there for what
fourteen years? Not thirteen years? Yeah? Yeah, most people are
like George. They I feel like fans actually ran George
sae Air out the door. Are you hearing that? And

(11:02):
I'm just not hearing it.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
I mean I hear it sometimes you know it is
what it is, But I think so I'm only hearing
it because I'm beating their favorite fighter. So at the
end of the day, I'm glad you know I'm here.
I got a lot more to do. I want to
put my name next to the history books and your
name with the two division champ and uh one step
closer come March seven.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Maybe Mount Rushmore. You want to be on Mount Rushmore
next to me? You're not? You actually say that to
the security guards over that like you are. You're talking
tracks about me so much that the security guard as
I pulled into the parking lots like Max, say he
don't want you on Mount Rushmore. I'm like, I can't
even get to work. I can't even get to work.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Whoever's that security guard APEX or UFC please raise his
paid because I.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Mean, I can't even get to work. Put this dude
coming at me. Hey, thank you about bro.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Always did this before we leave, you know.

more money and didn't answer the phone.
