You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Welcome in our two. It's The Herd.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yesterday, you know, I was talking about this to start
the show today, where the NFL makes it much easier
to trade, and I think fans love trades.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I know I do.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I was freaking out yesterday. You know, the NFL's got
red zone, the NBA's got red tape. You know, aprons,
and you know pick swaps and salaries have to match.
Here we are Nick spurs about the play and the
NFL steals their universe because trading's easy. And I've always
(01:06):
thought the NBA, and I've said this for years, gets
two worked up on tanking. The teams that want to
do it do it. You know, it's like getting worked
up over speeding people speed, Like speeding tickets can't be
the be all end all of law enforcement. Obviously, you
don't want somebody driving ninety through a school zone, But
get over it.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
People's speed.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
People are not going to stay within the speed limit,
and unless they're in a neighborhood or by a school district,
it can't be that big of a priority. If a
team's tanking, they're doing it because they want to get better.
I like bad teams wanting to get better. So I
just loved all the trades and we've had it. Used
to be the NBA felt like the trade league. Now
(01:49):
it's the NFL. So I just here to me are
the top ten moves so far in the offseason. I'm
not even including Trey Hendrickson to the Ravens or Malik
Willis to the Dolphins, and I think those are tremendous moves.
So number ten's Kenneth Walker. Now, Walker is really good
and had an unbelievable playoff run, and he is an
(02:10):
area of need for the Chiefs, but he only averaged
sixty yards a game in the regular season and wasn't
always their red zone back, and he is a physical
back that gets dinged up.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
So again the.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Postseason, Kenneth Walker knew his contract situation. He played banged
up and he was tremendous in the Super Bowl, but
there's some injury stuff to be concerned about. I still
like the move a lot for Kansas City. Number nine
would be Mike Evans to the Niners. Again, why is
he this low? Injuries are an issue. I do think
(02:45):
he's a grown up and adds stability to a receiving
corp that's been high maintenance between Ayuk and Debo. You
know you got Kittle coming off an injury, Christian McCaffrey
another massive workload.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I like Mike Evans a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
He's a Hall of Fame player, but again, like Kenneth Walker,
there is a there is an injury reality that we
have to, you know, wrap our brains around Number eight.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I think Kyler Murray to the Vikings is going to work.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I don't think it's going to be fourteen wins like
Sam Darnold, but I could see it being ten.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I think they have an elite coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I've told you I think Brian Flores best defensive coordinator
in football. I love Kevin O'Connell, and I think they
have good players left tackle, wide receiver, running back. I
think they're really well run. I do now they have
a new GM. But and I also think sometimes people
in life need a fresh start. I can't wait to
watch this number seven. Don't tell me Cleveland's terrible. Don't
(03:41):
tell me Cleveland was a big loser yesterday. Cleveland has
drafted so well the last several years. Jared Vers to
the Browns. You get a cost controlled pass rusher, a
cost controlled elite pass rusher. Those don't exist very much
in the NFL. Now you got Mason Graham, spent for
Casey Concepcion, Harold Fannin, Quinn, Shawn Judkins, Jared Verse, Carson Swessinger.
(04:08):
Cleveland's got young talent everywhere. I love this move for Cleveland.
Number six. DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Listen it
basically it allows the rest of Buffalo's pass catchers to
play complimentary roles. Coleman, Shakir Dawson, Knox Kincaid. And that's
(04:28):
what they are. They're they're number two outlets, and so
it's like getting an ace pitcher.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Everybody moves down in the rotation.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
DJ Moore smart, veteran, durable, tough. I think Chicago's going
to miss him more than people think. Again, I'm not
putting him in the Jamar Chase class, but he's a
pro who's plays through pain. He's durable, he doesn't miss starts,
and I think the Bears are gonna miss him a
little bit. A Number five Trent McDuffie. A physical corner.
(04:55):
He's going to create fumbles, He's gonna get sacks. He's
just a great player who's very okay tackling and mixing
it up. A physical corner. He also like Walker to
the Chiefs. He's in his prime and he addresses a
massive need. They were bad at corner last year, so
(05:18):
he was worth the first round pick. Number number four,
I would say Jalen Waddle to the Broncos. Everybody always
talks about his his you know, durability concerns. He's missed
seven games in five years. I don't worry about it,
and he gives them a number one receiver. Now, I
think Cortland Sutton is underrated, but we have to be
honest about what the NFL has become. It's become more
(05:39):
of a wide receiver lead. I used to call him
icing on the cake.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
It does matter.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
I mean, JSN is a big reason the Seahawks got
to the Super Bowl and Pukinakua and Devonte Adams are
a big reason the Rams were in the NFC Championship.
So I think Jalen Waddle is going to be a
big deal, especially with Sean Payton's play design. I think
he's going to be excellent. Number three AJ Brown to
the Patriots. This guy has been hyper productive with Ryan
(06:07):
Tannehill and Jalen Hurts when Tennessee was the number two
rush percentage offense in the league and Philadelphia with Saquan
is the number two rush offense. So he's basically played
in run centric offenses with quarterbacks we don't love throwing
the ball down the field.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
And now he gets Drake May.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Fantasy Football guys draft AJ Brown number two most underrated
pick on the offseason. Tyler Linderbaum to the Raiders. I
have told all my GM friends, why don't you guys
value centers? They set the protection. I mean, there's three
centers in this league that are amazing. You know Creed
Humphrey off viously Kansas City. Lender Baum for a rookie quarterback,
(06:50):
they had the worst rated old line or near the
bottom in the league. I think he is a massive
get for the Raiders. Stabilizes that interior line number one,
five straight seasons with fourteen sacks Miles Garrett. I've been
talking about this since the trade yesterday. What's really interesting
is Cleveland was a bad team that rarely led in
(07:12):
the fourth quarter. So think about how productive Garrett was
with very few sack opportunities under seven minutes left. Teams
that played the Browns were running the clock out, three
step drop, get it out.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Secure reception.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Now, the Rams probably lead thirteen of their seventeen regular
season games in the fourth and the Rams were second
in the NFL in creating third and sevens. So these
sack opportunities are going to go through the roof for
Miles Garrett. When you say, I always say with Max Crosby,
how the hell does Max Crosby get that many sacks?
(07:50):
The Raiders are getting blown out fourth quarter, teams.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Are running the clock out.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
You didn't even have opportunities to get sacked.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
All right, I know, Nick Writ's not gonna like where
I put Kenneth Walker.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I can tell you that right now.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
First things first, Nick Wright, our friend, all right, let's
bring him on.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I'm Nick Wright.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
You sound almost disappointed to see me, all right, Before
I even get to the Kenneth Walker part. I'm old
enough to remember, and I know we can throw up
your list again. Just have it between us so we
can both look at it. I'm old enough to remember
when Colin Cowherd called wide receivers the icing on the cake. Yeah,
(08:37):
and now you're just a flutter over him. You just
can't get enough of paying a lot for in Mike Evans,
DJ Moore, and AJ Brown's case, aging wide receivers. So
that's the first thing that is just noteworthy to me. Secondarily,
I think you are wild. DJ Moore, if the Bills
(08:58):
hadn't traded him, was going to be the fifth option
on the on I mean, if the Bears hadn't traded
him going to be the fifth option on the Bears
this coming year. I think he had six hundred yards
last year. And I don't know how much you're incorporating
what teams gave up, because for your first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth,
(09:19):
seventh was part of a trade, you had to trade
away assets. I like the old fashioned free agency acquisition
keep my draft picks, So I like Linderbaum, even though
they paid a king ransom. So I don't hate the
list it's a little new age for me with how
much you like the wide receivers. But I do want
to let me give you this the case for Kenneth
(09:40):
Walker being more impactful than you're making him.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Out to be.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
It's not that he, necessarily, in a vacuum, is a
better running back than Jalen Waddles wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
That's not the argument.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
The argument is the Chiefs last year had the least
threatening running back room in the entire NFL, and so
just going from bottom of the barrel in the league
to even if he just puts them at tenth in
the league, that upgrade is so massive in the way
(10:16):
teams are going to have to defend Kansas City. So
I think Walker is going to I think Walker in
Kansas City will make a bigger impact than Jalen Waddle
and Denver, even if Jalen Waddle is a better player
than Kenneth Walker, just because of what the Chiefs didn't
have there last year and how teams are gonna have
to respect.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
The run, that's all.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, I think Walker's a little more brittle than Wattle
Walker gets. I watched Walker at Michigan State. I loved him,
and I also want to I worry about Walker a
little bit here, and I don't know him, but I
worry a little bit when Walker's dinged up and then
all of a sudden he's that spry and healthy in
the playoff run, knowing he's going to potentially go to
(10:59):
Mark and he had his best stretch ever. You know,
it's I worry a little bit about that.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Well, And what's.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Fair is the history sorted. The history of paying top
of the market for Super Bowl MVPs typically does not
go well, so.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
I totally understand that. I just think last.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
Year, by about week eight, teams were like, it does
not matter if you are in a run fit run personnel.
We are only defending the pass. Hand it off the
Isaiah Pacheco or Kareem hunt for two yards.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
If you wish. And I just think it's going to be.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Such a clearer picture for mahomes if teams actually have
to respect the run. Now, Walker's got to stay healthy
and stay motivated. Guys in Kansas City tend to stay motivated,
so we'll see.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
But that's it.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Otherwise, I got no issue.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
With the listing yesterday.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
I said this to start the show today, is the
NFL doesn't get in the way of fun. They tweak
their rules, like the cash rule if it's getting in
the way of fun. They make trading incredibly easy. There's
no pick swaps and you got to match salaries. You
want to trade, make a trade. And I think yesterday
was so much fun. I know it was fun for you,
it was so much fun for me. It's interesting. I
(12:13):
was telling my wife about this, you know, she didn't
fall sports, and I said, basically, the Rams said, this
is a little bit what the Warriors said. Listen, we
don't know, we're gonna just everything's on Stafford's timeline. So
the truth is a weird pick with a quarterback McDuffie.
They don't Historically the Rams did not did not value cornerbacks.
(12:35):
I mean they moved off Jalen Ramsey. So the McDuffie
move was interesting. And then Miles Garrett, are you is
there a realistic argument that they're really building around two
years of Stafford who has a history of taking shots,
he's the last old quarterback that we're just stand in
(12:55):
the pocket.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
And get rocked. Is there anything about that trade you
don't like?
Speaker 5 (13:01):
No, My gut reaction is I think it's good for
both sides.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
I understand it, and I think Miles.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Garrett it's on the board that he's got another five
elite years in him, like you talk about, you know,
he was the best player in the nation as a
high schooler.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
He was the best player.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
In the nation at Texas A and m He's coming
to the NFL and as the all time record for
consecutive double digits or twelve sax seasons, and we just
saw him set the sack record playing for a team
as you mentioned that never had the lead like he
was in the most adverse situation for a pass rusher
and still set the sack record. So I don't hate
(13:39):
the trade at all. I do think what I think
is clear and what you might be getting at is
I see no scenario where the Browns regret this. I
think the Browns are like, we got a young stud
pass rusher, we got another first round pick, a second
and a third. We clean up our books. We're not
ready to win right now any way. Now they got
(14:01):
to hit on the picks. But that would be the
case no matter what I think. There is no scenario
where the Browns are like which we hadn't done this.
There is a scenario where the Rams regret this. I
don't think it's the likely scenario, but the scenario of
if Stafford, to your point, gets dinged, or if they
just come up short and then they go, you know,
(14:22):
if in two years ty simpson's their guy and he's
not really the guy, and it's like, man, we don't
have a way out of this, and we've mortgaged so
much of the future, and it's not keep in mind again,
if we're going two three years down the road, it's
not just that you don't have these draft picks. It's
that the picks you've traded in the past, or for
(14:43):
McDuffie or for Miles this coming year, three years down
the road, those guys would be entering their prime. You
don't have your young core of your team. So it
is a risk. But I applaud the Rams for taking
the risk. And don't you think that the this now
informs the ty Simpson draft pick that they knew this
(15:04):
was possible, So they're like, we're not gonna be able
to draft the quarterback replacement down the road, so we
have to do it now. Because they thought they were
making a huge splash.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
A couple months later with Miles Garrett.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah, there was a story yesterday, Nick where they when
Cleveland reed did Miles Garrett contract in March, the Rams
became super interested a month before the draft.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
So I do think they look back to what makes sense. Okay,
so I said this.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
I try not to be a fan, but there are
some times I can always tell when I'm a fan
and I'm rooting. I get nervous because I usually watch sports.
I watched the red Zone. I'm not getting nervous. Even
the Super Bowl. I picked the Patriots to be the
surprise team in the league. I'm from the Northwest. It
was like, I wasn't nervous. Whoever wone, I was happy.
But I'm watching the Spurs Oklahoma City second half.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
I'm nervous. I want the Spurs to win.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
I think Nick Spurs feels gigantic and I'm literally a fan.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I'm like, ah, it's officiating's terrible, and.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
I'm like, God, I've become a fan, and I gotta
tell you, I don't. I think the Knicks matchup very
well with them. But I said yesterday is when be
going to become so good that the MJ. Lebron debate
is pointless. We're arguing about second he is could be
(16:23):
I mean played go bear off the floor. Holmgroun's a
great player disintegrated. Are we looking at the beginning of
a nine ten to eleven finals player that starts now,
not later?
Speaker 5 (16:37):
I mean, maybe I listen, it's it is certain. This
playoff run was the first time he actually started to
be on the trajectory of the greatest players ever. And
if he wins the title here, then he is accelerated
(16:57):
past the trajectory of Lebron and Jordan. It actually is
the trajectory of Kareem. Kareem in year two was scoring
Champ MVP, best player in the league and won the title.
Now and so Lebron at Wimby's age was in the
finals but lost. Jordan at Wimby's age was the third
(17:20):
pick of the draft, but obviously Jordan then by year
seven ripped off six championships in eight years. So it's
all slightly different paths. I am. I am not as
interested in me in twelve years as Wimby. Gonna render
these conversations moot as other people, just because it feels
(17:40):
to me just off the back of you know, the
back of my hand. In the last half decade, we
have had the following, at least brief conversations. Is Yannis
going to become one of the five greatest players ever?
Is Joker going to be better than Stephan? Are the
(18:01):
Celtics with Jatam and Brown gonna reel off three championships?
Is Shay the next Michael Freaking Jordan? And the Thunder
are this unstoppable force. Now we're to a point where
the team hasn't yet even won their first title, and
we're like, what's it gonna mean when he wins five
in a row? So I would pump the brakes on
(18:22):
that a bit. I also will say this, I think
everybody looks at this as, oh my god, this is
the Knicks opportunity, and it does. And I think I
think the Knicks are gonna win. I think the Knicks
have been the best team in the league for a month.
They've blown everyone out, They're healthier, they're more rested, all
of that. But it does warrant mentioning this colin.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
It feels like.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
And I would bet on the Spurs are going to
be there a bunch of times. But a team made
the finals in his second year did not get back
for eight more years and in the meantime demanded a trade.
They didn't give it to him, and he demanded one.
Lebron made the finals at age twenty two, did not
make the finals again with Cleveland until he left and
(19:06):
came back eight years later. Luca made the finals at
twenty four. They traded him the following year. The d
Wade made the finals and won the championship in year three.
They then bottomed out before Lebron came there. It always
feels like, oh my god, this guy will just keep
getting there. I would anyone have believed five years ago
(19:29):
that Giannis when he made the finals I think at
twenty five and was scored fifty to win the title,
he won't come close again as a buck. So I
only say that for this reason, like this is just
as critical for the Spurs as for the Knicks. Nobody
is guaranteed to be right back in it, and I
(19:49):
would argue the Spurs certainly moving forward, have the tougher
road to get back to the finals because the West
feels so much more stacked than the East.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I want to end with this because you're a lot
of your branding is Lebron, and I think it's tim
Kawakami is a longtime Barrier writer, and I think this
is really it's really interesting, is that you know.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
These new owners, they have a history.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
They will move off great players Stanny Machado, you know,
Trade Turner, Scott Seeger, like like great, great, all star
level batting champion, Hall of Fame talent guys. And I
think there's no question that JJ Reddick Luka are they
believe if you had to pick two, that's the future.
(20:34):
Austin reeves. You can't let them walk for nothing. I
think they want a team friendly deal, but you have
to prioritize that.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Corey Seeker. Here's my thing.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Lebron's been has monetized his brand as well as anybody.
Kudos to him, but he could end up with the Warriors,
and I do not believe whether it's the right move
or not, it would crush the new owners that I
think privately they'd kind of like to get out of
the business. Lakers sellout games regardless, and Lebron Curry Draymond
(21:07):
Pods eleventh pick is a die Mara, a big that
potentially can fit into the ecosystem. I look at it
and I think Lebron Curry Draymond or friends. It's Tim
Kawakami throws it out there, and I'm like, it doesn't
sound crazy to me.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Listen, our pal Bill Simmons has been talking, at least,
you know, hinting at this for a while that he
thinks that's a real possibility.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
I think it is. I wouldn't write it off.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
I don't think that team would be good enough to
win the title and that you.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Laid out there now.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
If they would have to make significant other moves and
have a lot of things happen, it would be fun.
It would be interesting. I would like to watch them play.
So if Lebron's leaving the Lakers, the Cavs, if they
can find a way, if they you know, they extend
Harden and then at the deadline move Harden because it
(22:03):
doesn't make sense for Lebron and Harden to be on
the same team. That's interesting to me. The Warriors be
interesting to me. But I want to say one thing
about Lebron and the Lakers quickly.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
I if the new.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Owners are super excited about getting out of the Lebron
James business, then they're not quite as sharp as I
think they are. He once again showed you this postseason.
He is the best old guy in the league. He
once again showed you this postseason that he can, for
moments of time or games or stretches, still be the
(22:40):
driving force to winning at the during the NBA playoffs,
and he is still at forty one years old. Just
better than Austin Reeves. I understand Austin Reeves has so
much more time and it's a long term deal, so
you want to keep him, but it is going to
be very difficul for next year. I'm not strong long term.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
I'm saying for next year for.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
The Lakers to be better off by letting Lebron James
walk for nothing. And if their thought process is all right, well,
next year we're reforming it, and then the year after
we go for it, you're just squandering the first year
with Luca, they tried to trade first center called it off.
This year, they were all focused on keeping cap flexibility
(23:26):
for the following year, and then everybody got hurt. If
next year's a tweak all of a sudden. If I'm like,
you're a Laker vineyard, like we've had Luca for four
playoff runs and we haven't had a playoff run.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Yet, it would be risky.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
I know it's weird because Lebron's old, He's still is
the second best player on your team, and there's not
another team in basketball that thinks it's good business to
just let the second best player walk for nothing. Maybe
they'll do it, but I would be very hesitant to
do that if I were the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Right, first things first, after us, my friend, it's always
good to see you can't wait for the finals. I
too think the Knicks are going to give the Spurs
some trouble. I'm not sure if they win it, but
I do think it's a six or seven. Gad, it's
a really really good series.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Good se anybody well, great seeing us talk to the
letter calling by.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
I think it's gonna be a real series, and I
think for a lot of reasons, they're red hot. It
all comes down to what we've talked about is how
legit is the Knicks run the East was Atlanta was
a bad team all year. I mean, shocker, a hardened
team was awful in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Shocker.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Embiid couldn't play in a couple of games in the series.
It's the East for whatever reasons, She's not very good.
Speaker 2 (24:37):

You know it's It's interesting if Philadelphia is going to
be fine. But I think AJ Brown is one of
those players that I compared it earlier to Saquon Barkley.
We all knew Saquon Barkley was really good with the Giants.
He became great with the Eagles, better fit better supporting
caft cast. I mean Aj Brown has been wildly productive
(25:38):
with run centric Tennessee and run centric Philadelphia. I think
his numbers are going to pop with the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Jmack with the news. No, no, hear on the news.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
This is the Herdline News.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
I got a mystery for you here, Collin. So we
got the NBA Finals starting tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Everybody's geeked.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
Everybody knows that Wemby is the favorite to win Finals MVP.
That's obvious. You don't want to bet Wemby to win
the finals MVP. But would you guess who's second, third,
and fourth? I think they, I mean, this surprised me
when they just brought it to me.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
The odds. We know Wemby's the best player in the league,
and Jalen.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Bruno, Stefan Castle three, No, Karl Anthony Towns.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Correct, Karl Anthony Towns the three. Guess who's four?
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Yeah, now he's like, Oh, McIntyre's in my head, what
is it? Og og and ob plus four thousand?
Speaker 4 (26:39):
What? I love those odds on OG. So Wemby won,
But then.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
The next three favorites for finals MVP are knicks. I'm
just trying to talk through this exercise. I don't think
the Spurs are that top heavy. But by the way,
they had seven guys in double figures in Game seven.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
I mean, Dylan Harper is great, but he comes off
the bench, so.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
They're not going to give him MVP. Right, He's twenty
years old. It is interesting.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
I think the Knicks have more firepower than the Spurs.
I thought I was on an island deer. I think
I just heard Nick say he likes the Knicks. I'm
excluding New York media from this, obviously, but I recorded
my pod with the New York writer. He doesn't think
this is crazy. Ogn and Obi plus four thousand. He's
going to match up with wenby a.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Lot in this sem ohg is is on a short
list of the best two way players in the league.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
He's top.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
You ask you asked GMS about OG, you ask coaches
about OG. He's a really respected player. I think he
is a little bit of a secret sauce that you
can match him up against the big I mean he
does everything. He can hit threes, he can rebound, he
can defend. He's a power player, he can he can
play finesse. OG's a great NBA player. They kind of
(27:45):
stole him from Toronto.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
Well, and they could only afford him because Brunson took
one hundred and thirteen million dollars less right with his deal.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
But there is a parallel.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Remember I brought this up the whole Hey is Mike
Brown similar to Steve Kerr in that Brown takes over
for Thibodeau makes one change. Karl Anthony Towns is now
in the Draymond role and the Knicks are unstoppable.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
And then you've.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Got like a is Josh Hart kind of or maybe
og is that the Igo Dollar role? Because remember Iguodala
against Lebron in the two thousand and fifteen finals, got
MVP for his defense. He didn't stop Lebron, but he
slowed him enough and was good offensively.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
I'm just telling you I wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
Bet wemby MVP, but Colin I dug into those matchups
this season.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Okay, you said ranked the top six players in the
finals wemby one. Brunson too. I think Og Brunson are
back and forth depending on how Yeah. I like Stefan Kass,
then I'd go Cat, then you then you'd I mean it.
Speaker 7 (28:47):
I mean, listenin, Harper is going to be better than Bridges,
but right now, Bridges is I mean, he's got like
what sixty percent against the Cavs. People are selling the
Nick short this whole listen. I didn't want to jump
in when you were doing that, Amon Dreen, did you
know the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Are supposed to come out of the East.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
I looked up the odds before the playoffs a mere
six weeks ago. The Celtics were heavy favorites. The Calves
were the second favorites. Yes, then the Knicks, so they
weren't supposed to come out like the Knicks have played
out of their mind now for six weeks.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
And that's why people ask a question that I think
is fair is is some of this Cleveland's a mess.
They had a terrible defensive back court, so that was
a bad matchup against Brunson. Philadelphia was a mess all year.
I mean, they were playing level. They just got healthy
at the end, but they didn't play.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Together that much. And Atlanta stunk. They were sub five
hundred and March.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
So again, it's not that I don't respect the Knicks,
but you look at who they beat and you're like, oh,
it's pretty weak. The most impressive thing about the Spurs
to me, not only did they beat Oklahoma City, which
I'm not sure the Knicks could do, they flushed Minnesota out.
Minnesota's roster The construction of that roster is much like
(29:59):
the Knicks. There's a little bit of everything, and they
they flushed them out. There were some non competitive games. Man,
So I when I looked at that line, I thought
it was gonna be like a one point spread.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
And it's four and a half.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
And you know, you and I know the Knicks are
not gonna have a great first quarter. It's just gone,
you know. They they they're Oklahoma City san Antonio. That
intensity will feed into when the when Wednesday's Game one,
the Spurs will have a very good first half. Will
they have the energy for the second half against the Knicks.
(30:32):
But you would guess San Antonio is gonna jump out
to a lead and be the better team early in
that game one.
Speaker 7 (30:39):
Yeah, I am curious real quick on Carl Anthony Towns.
So he seems cool. How about this stat, Colin, I
looked this up on the numbers. He's taken the fewest
amount of shots per game of the Knick starters. Carl
Anthony Towns. I know that's gonna sit fine when you
win eleven in a row.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Oh, I'm cool.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
Taking a step back to Josh Hart, what's gonna happen
if they faced Vert City down two to zero in
the series. Is karl Anton Town's gonna be like, I
gotta get back.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
To being me.
Speaker 7 (31:04):
That's my one concern, is Kat and like, it's fine
to fit into a role when things are rolling, but
when you get you know, what's the classic line from boxing.
You have everybody as a game plan til you get
punched in the face, and then it's like, well, Kat,
are you cool taking nine shots a game? When you
were like a volume score you were one of the
best scorers in the league. So there's so many good subplots.
I know the NFL is hot right now, but when
(31:26):
the finals start, we're gonna be geeked. Let's go back
Colin to the NFL and Miles Garrett's obviously big move
to the Rams. Much as being made of the Browns,
I said they were tanking some team to disagree. I
think they're doing the Jets model right. Let's get as
many good young players and picks as we can. Figure
out the quarterback later. We're not going to the super Bowl.
We're not a wildcard team. Let's just get good players.
(31:48):
Jared Versus is a great player. Here's Brown's GM Andrew
Berry really glazing Jared Verse.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Jared Verse.
Speaker 8 (31:56):
He's obviously a huge part of this return for us.
You know, Jared is an outstanding football player, former defensive
Rookie of the Year, two time original Ballot Pro Bowler.
He's a perfect DNA match for our attacking front. We
are really really excited to add him to our team.
He allows us to continue to play defense as a
(32:17):
high level, which has been our standard over the past
several seasons, and we're really excited to welcome him into
the organization.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yeah, I think all of that's true.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
I think Cleveland has to feel if we did a
poll and said, take every team in the NFL, show
me your best seven players twenty four or younger. Cleveland's
got an argument. They're in a very I mean the
Rams are in that too, But Fannin Schlessinger Verse concepcion
(32:52):
is going to be a big hit. Is that running
back from Ohio State Judgkins, Like they guys Fano the
right tackle. Cleveland's got seven or eight potentially exceptional players,
and none of them are getting paid right now, so
they when they want to spend money and if they
get the quarterback right next year, I still think Shador
is better than people think Cleveland's If you're in Cleveland
(33:15):
today and you got a first, a second, and a
third and a star pass rusher for basically cost control
for the next two years, I feel pretty good if
you're a Cleveland Browns fan.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
Again, honestly, I think the Browns are in good shape.
I know people don't want to hear that the.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Thing is and Colin.
Speaker 7 (33:33):
I know people don't like hearing this tanking stuff when
you're just like, hey, Schadure, Deshaun Watson, whoever wins quarterback,
I don't care.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
It doesn't matter. We're winning four or five games.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
But you can see the shell forming. And this is
what Seattle did. They had the shell.
Speaker 7 (33:48):
They had all these good players, but Gino Schmid didn't
deliver enter Sam Darnold. So I think if the Browns
they if they happen to get a top two pick
and they're losing thirty to nothing in December.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
I'm excited. I look at the schedule.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
I'm sorry, Cleveland's not gonna win one or two games
or three and four. They played the Jets, I mean,
I mean, look at the schedule, the Titans, the Saints,
they play the Raiders, we don't know. I mean, Cincinnati
twice is Atlanta. So what do you say, No, if
the Giants of the Court, Cleveland's gonna win seven.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Games, Oh that's great news. Wow, that is excellent news.
And you're gonna play their selves out of a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I'm sorry, but Cleveland's GM.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
This this thing.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
And I'm telling you, Shador Sanders.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
I watched Cleveland last year with Flacco beat green Back,
and green Bee is pretty good football team. And they're
better now than they were because Miles Garrett Jared Verse.
Obviously Garrett's better, but how how important was he when
you were trailing games in the fourth.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
All right, let's wrap up with the New York Giants,
your team of destiny this year.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Although it's starting to feel a wobbly there.
Speaker 7 (35:00):
I notice you're not as puffing in your chest out
as he used to. Yesterday, they signed three receivers, obj Jujusmith,
Schuster and the immortal Braxton Barrios. And at some point
people are like, oh, we got all these guys. Wait
a minute, what's the real story here. Oh, Malik Neighbors
is cooked, so you know there are legitimate concerns. I mean,
(35:20):
he had a cleanup they're calling it in April, but
to sign three guys Colin Jujus with Schuster going to
his fourteen and six years, the Srixton Barrios is like
more famous on Instagram than on the football field.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Well, this is this is what the Chiefs have been
doing since they let Tyreek Hill go, is you know,
just finding guys that they can bring it in out
of their system.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
It can work.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
It's not ideal, but I think there's a lot of
receiving talent out there. I'll say it again. The Malachi
Fields that the Giants got from Notre Dame is going
to be productive as a rookie. That's a really He'll
end up being, over the course of time, the more reliable, dependable,
productive player than neighbors because he won't get banged down.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
That's my hot take. Jmckle the news.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping that. The
Herd Line news.
Speaker 6 (36:16):
Why the A. J.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Brown trade is not good for Jalen Hurts And it's
not the reason you think.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Next, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
Weekdays and Noone Easter nin am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and The iHeartRadio.
Speaker 7 (36:34):
App coming Saturday, horse racing's greatest thrill ride. Golden Tempo
made history once, can he do it again at the
Belmont Stakes.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
Coverage begins Saturday at for Eastern Live on Fox.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
I think one of the hardest things to do for
rich guys or successful people is to admit I made
a huge mistake. And once you draft, like the Patriots
did a top ten quarterback and you know he's good,
your job is to protect him and elevate him fast
when he's on that rookie contract. So they hire Jirowd
(37:09):
Mayo and he's a disaster.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Boom.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Robert Kraft gets rid of him, like we're not gonna
get We're not gonna get stubborn.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
It didn't work. It's over. So the Patriots have done
what the Bears did?
Speaker 1 (37:24):
You know? The Bears they get Caleb Williams. They're like, yeah,
youbra flus not working, Boom, Ben Johnson, and they start
stockpiling wide receiver, offensive line and tight end talent. Sean
Payton did this even dealing with the Russell Wilson contract.
First thing he did fix the on line immediately for
bo and get bow Nicks. So if you look at it,
it doesn't seem that difficult. First thing, they get rid
(37:49):
of Drawd Mayo. They made a mistake, so they bring
in Josh McDaniel's rabel and then they draft.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Last year they.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Draft the left tackle with their first pick, second pick
running back, and then this year they go back to
the offensive line. Then they add Romeo Dobbs and aj
Brown yesterday, the latter yesterday. So again, it's not that
hard when you get a top ten quarterback on that
rookie contract. You know, young quarterbacks are like young kids.
(38:16):
The smoother the first seven to eight years of their life,
the greater the chance they'll be successful adults. And the
Chargers got Justin Herbert. They fiddled around for four years
until they finally pay the coach. They wasted four years
of Justin Herbert's career. The Cincinnati Bengals, we're going in
the year seven with Joe Burrow. They still have never
given him a legitimate, big time offensive line. So I
(38:39):
just appreciate what the Bears did with Caleb Luther, Burden, Loveling,
the tight end, Roma Dunze. You know, let's go get
let's fix the offensive line. That's what Sean Payton did.
Let's get the old line right. Let's go get Jalen Waddle.
Let's draft wide receivers, the running back in the second round.
(39:01):
It doesn't seem that difficult. Just get out of your
own way. But there are teams, and you know, I
love the Chargers, but they fiddled around for four years.
Hire an assistance. Just go get hardball, Go get a
proven head coach. And the Bengals, can you just go,
you know, just go spend money and go buy the
best left ackle in the world. It's available. Just give
(39:22):
Burrow a break. So, I mean, aj Brown to me,
changes everything with this offense.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Here's Mike Gravel.
Speaker 9 (39:29):
Yesterday, just trying to improve our football team every possible way,
you know, give our offense multiple weapons to build on
what we.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Did last year.
Speaker 9 (39:42):
I don't know what happened. I'm not I'm not trying
to figure out what happened in Philadelphia. I'm trying to
focus on what's going to happen here and trying to
get him acclimated to what we.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
Do and how we do it.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
So, I mean, listen, Patrick Mahomes maybe the most talented
quarterback ever. Some will argue that on a short list,
but Andy Reid Travis Kelcey in his prime, Tyreek Hill
in his prime ensured some level of success, and Alex
Smith in the quarterback room for a year. So and
I think Mahomes is great. But I've said, if you
just flipped Burrow and Mahomes' circumstances, Burrow's got more trophies.
(40:18):
I'm not sure if Patrick does. So there is a
lot of circumstance here. I've said forever in my business,
don't chase money, chase management. There's a sea of money.
There's a finite amount of quality, non meddling management in broadcasting.
And I think I appreciate what the Patriots have done.
They followed sort of the Peyton when McVeigh got to LA.
Remember that he took over that mess with Jeff Fisher.
(40:40):
First thing, spent a fortune on a left tackle Andrew Whitworth.
Let's get the O line fixed right, and let's have
a grown up staff. Let's give money to offense. Let's
protect Jared Goff, who's not highly mobile. So I just
appreciate the swings by the Patriots because I think they've
got a lot of complementary offensive players. They've got a
(41:03):
lot of good running backs and Hunter Henry Good tight ends.
They don't have a go to number one that you
have to roll coverage over. AJ is gonna change the
way you defend them and play them. It's gonna be
a little like Randy Moss. It's just gonna open up
doors for everybody else. And I don't think AJ is Randy.
Randy is maybe the most talented receiver I've ever seen.
(41:25):
But AJ Brown top four yards and touchdowns in two
run centric offenses.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
He is gonna pop in New England.
