crazy after Game one. Jmack and I I had heard

Jmack you were talking during the break about an hour ago.
I think, did Michael Jordan lose a Game one in
the NBA Finals heated years ago?

Lebron lost a Game one in the NBA Finals and
won it. It's not there are things san Antonio will
shoot the ball better. Their legs died in the second half,
they looked tired, and they came through a grueling, physical
series against OKAC so I think they'll shoot much better.

But the one thing I can't get past is grown
man strength. Og Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart, Cat, those dudes
have been in NBA weight rooms for years and they
just pushed Wemby around. And I'm not sure this Wemby,
twenty two year old Wemby. You know, go back to

Giannis in year three and then Yannis. Now this is
a different person. And you know, I just there are
some things from Game one I know will last in
this series. For instance, the Knicks are a great fourth
quarter offense. They're not going to become a bad fourth
quarter offense. The Knicks will be the better of the
two teams in the fourth quarter. They're at net rating.

It's their best quarter and it has been all year.
And the second thing I can't unsee is hellad Nick
veterans pushed Wemby around. I mean, Kat was sturdy, and
Kat's not known as a great defensive guy. But I
mean Og Robinson, Josh Hart plays way above his size.
He plays like a power forward. And with that, Taj Gibson,

I love bringing guys on who've been in this league
for twenty years. Taj has been in the NBA seventeen.
He's a former USC Trojan. In fact, I think he
played Kevin Durant in the tournament years ago. Former Nick
former Bull Taj is joining us now live on a Thursday, Tos.
I gotta tell you, you guys who have been in

this league forever, and you probably privately talk about this,
you know, I look at San Antonio. Those are kids,
Those are twenty year old kids. You do you see
what I saw last night was that was kind of
men versus kids physically and the rest. Let you play
in the finals, Taj. They're gonna let you bang around.

I think that's a big, a big advantage to the Knicks,
is it not.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, But that's New York style basketball over the last
couple of years. That's all you understand. That's all you
kind of know. This group's been through a lot of
this tough battles, and I think East coach kind of
makes you got that kind of team. I wouldn't give
so much to slack to San Antonio. They just came
off of a tough series with Oklahoma City, an even

tougher opponent, so I look forward to them playing He
was strong in the second game.

When you face a Wemby last night. He even struggled
to get rebounds. I mean they were on him, grabbing him.
Is there a match up against Wemby? Would you like
Cat last night? I thought was really good defensively. You
know Kat, you played with Kat before? Were you surprised
how well Cat matched up to Winby defensively? That surprised you?

Not really just Cat?

This Cat all together this whole year, through the times
I've been talking to him, He's grown so much as
a player and as a mature adult. And I can
tell I can see it in his eyes even when
the last time I played him in Memphis.

He's just so determined.

And you can tell with this a group of guys
they had that attitude this year. You can tell by
each each game, every time they don't even celebrate. That's
how eager, that how hungry they are this year. And
I'm just so proud of him because you tell you
he just sees that they have a real shot this time.

Did you think Jalen Brunson was ever going to be
this great?
Speaker 4 (04:44):
To be honest with you, Yes, because his dad was
my veteran. I was with his dad almost every other day.
His dad took me I really taught me to rope,
so being in that culture, his dad always had me
watching his game. So even from Belenova, just going to
the games on the road, watching them win, and to
do it not once but twice the n C Double

A with the same group of guys.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
And then to see them where they're playing.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Now, you gotta understand how tough it is to play
in New York City, but to have the whole city
believing in you right now after so many years, Come on, Colin,
you gotta give it to the kid, Gotta give it
to him.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, what makes New York different? You've played for eight
different teams. Why is New York different?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Because the fan base.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
The fan base is so in your face everywhere you
go from morning tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
They're gonna let you have it. And then you know, everybody.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Knows whoever plays that in the Knicks and for the
Knicks in the garden in that fourth quarter. The fans
are even though even tougher to play in front of.
So to have that that crowd going for you, to
believe it in you, and now the whole turnaround, like
you gotta understand the streets of New York really believe
in this team, the whole quick turn, the whole turnaround
is just awesome, and they really got people believing, even myself,

and I'm extremely proud of him and the whole team.

So Tips is known as a defensive coach, and he
is a great defensive coach. He gets let go. They
bring in Mike Brown, and yet their defense has been
excellent this year. Does that surprise him, because you.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Got to think about him, Mike's Brown's been proven. I
remember playing against Mike Brown my rookie year when he
was with the Cavs and all the things he got
to deal with back then.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
It's his time, man, I truly believe it.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
He has a good group of young men that's ready
to believe and ready to win now.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
And it's always tough.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
We go from a hard nosed coach to a coach
that a lot of people don't kind of understand and
kind of see his philosophy. But it's panning out just
great and it's a huge story and a great success
for the future. I'm extremely proud of coach Mike Brown.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Man.

He's the man taking a lot of punches to the
face and keeping a strong smile and the way he's
been leading this next group is something special, Taj.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
The Spurs are built on the draft. I mean they
got Dylan Harper, they got a whim be Keldon Johnson.
It's a draft and developed, lottery pick team. The Knicks
traded for Og and traded for Kat and trade. They're
built the opposite. So a lot of times when you
draft and develop and guys grow together, they're very close.
The Knicks came from all different places and yet they're
(07:26):
crazy close that. I mean, you've been on so many teams.
Explain to me. Maybe it's the villanova guy thing, but
the Knicks feels so close despite the fact they didn't
grow together like San Antonio.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Well, you've got a thing about that culture just being
with the next so many years, that culture that Leon
rose and that whole front front line of different individuals
coming together, including Tibbs.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
That culture just came together.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
The family if you look deep into it, everybody's really
connected through the years, from the past to presence and
now out and.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
It's a real family there.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Even from the years I was playing there, guys has
got tighter and tighter, and they go when you go
through those pains and ups and downs, you get even stronger,
and I believe this year, those young men has just
been through so much, and I'm so happy for them
because you can understand the losing.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Your head coach last year, to go through the.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Ups and downs for the summer, and then to come
back even stronger this year in front of that New
York crowd, you gotta tip your hatshover got them so.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Wemby obviously is such a devastating defensive player. I mean,
you could see the NIXT doing you turns. You know,
he just literally not only does he block four shots
in ninety block eight if people challenged him offensively. Though,
in my opinion, sometimes he spends too much time away
from the basket. I'd like to see Wemby. I mean,
(08:48):
I don't need him planted within four feet. Do you
worry sometimes that I mean, I guess it's the NBA,
but that he's become sometimes too much of a perimeter
player or is that okay for you?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I like it and I don't like it sometimes because
he's so talented, sometimes we forget like he could do
really everything, and we want to see him do one
thing sometimes that win the game. But he's he's out
there trying to make all his teammates better at the
same time because at times they rely on him so much,
or even on the defensive side, because when he's out
there on the defensive end, he's he's coming from the
(09:24):
three point line to block a shot. So I think
with the game's going on, he's going to learn to
take advantage of his matchups. But knowing that Mitchell, Robinson
and Cat two different big men, but Scott's limit. For
this kid man, he's the only get to keep getting
stronger and do his playoffs. He's been proving it and
proving and proving because going against Oklahoma City was tough enough,

but we're going to see what else he has been
proved now against this toughen you up NIXT group.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
You know, to be an NBA player, you have to
be so gifted, so good. Every NBA player was not
only the best in his high school. Most of you
with the best in your county. Many of you were
the best in your state. And yet Jalen brunts and
the smallest Nick in the fourth quarter, the team just
like parts the Sea, they just let Jalen take over.
(10:11):
I think that's harder than people think. I mean, the Celtics,
how Brown and Tatum and sometimes I'm not sure who's
getting the ball, and do they love each other? It
is interesting. Maybe it's because he took a team friendly
deal that lets other guys get paid, but to be
so the team, the Knicks are so willing to let
their little guy take over set screens, do the dirty work.
(10:34):
I mean, it's is it like that with every NBA
team you've played for, where hey, he's our score, let
him get his It just feels like the Knicks are
different that way.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Well, I played like that on two teams, one with
Oklahoma City with Russell Rustbrook and one with Derrick Rose
and where we just let him go. And when you
play it with fearless little point guards like that, that's
just that's just the whole world because those guys are
your leaders. Your point guard is your leader. Got always
(11:05):
willing your point guard. And one thing about being around
with JB. He's a pure leader. He's a real point
guard because he always know how to talk to everybody
from top to bottom to make sure everybody's in their
their spots. You see him always talking to Jose on
the sideline. He's just a great leader. And I'm just
I'm just astonished and glad that he's turned into the
same kind of player that his dad was always preaching
(11:26):
about growing up.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
You know, it's funny you played for Memphis. They have
the third pick. They have the third pick. You played
with Carlos Boozer, his dad. Many think they're going to
draft Cam Boozer. And I heard a criticism of Cam Boozer.
People said, well, he's not super athletic. In my take
is well, is Luca I mean, is Jalen Brunching the

best athlete? Like he knows how to play basketball? That's
what I care about. When you, I mean, tell me
you and when I watched Cam Boozer, I see Carlos.
Carlos wasn't the most athletic guy. Talk a little bit
about Carlos and Cam Boozer because sometimes they think in
the NBA, we think everybody's this ten star athlete. Now
a lot of basketball is knowing how to play the game.
(12:15):
Your thoughts on Cam and Carlos Boozer.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
First, I gotta say shout out to Memphis and Zach
Kleinman and the whole front office.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
They got. They got a big decision to make.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
It should be exciting, It should be really excited for
the city of Memphis. But again, but your question with Carlos,
he's just a great guy. He's a great teammate, and
just being around his kids back then and to see
the way that all of them basically turned out, even
Cam being a superstar kind of player that he's been
coming to, I'm just so happy for him. He's a

super humble player, super humble kid. He's been winning from
for forever. So you can't you can't really miss with
this group of guys coming into this draft in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Okay, finally, you you are forty one at the end
of the month. Lebron is forty one. Now you're the
second latest player, so you yeah, you don't.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Need the money.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
You've had a great life. Yeah, I mean, but you
obviously love basketball and it's an amazing life. There was
a story a couple of days ago that came out
from a reporter who's a very trustable guy, Tim Khala.
Kami's been covering the league forever, and he said, just
keep your eye on Lebron and the Warriors. He loves staff,
he vacations with Draymon. The Lakers have to sign Austin
(13:35):
Reeves and Lebron doesn't want to be the third option.
Could you see I mean you've bounced around. Could you
see Lebron playing and saying, I got one year left,
I'm gonna go play with Curry. I always wanted to
play with him. Does that sound crazy to you or not?
Speaker 4 (13:50):
It really doesn't because the NBA is all about surprises
that our league has been growing at least keep the
fans entertained, And it's all about Lebron he has what
more does he have the proof he's a superstyle talent.
It's been holding our league down for so many years. Uh,
we just give it a to bron man, let it,
let him pick his make his choice, and just ride
out with it. But I would hope to see him

back with the Lakers. I think that's a good fit form.
But we'll see. The NBA is always a special time
and look forward to hearing some special news come real soon.

By by the way, why do you still play at
forty one? You just just love you just love to.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Be honest with you, The phone calls, this is keep
coming all through the years, when I when I was
even when I was playing the Knicks, having Leon called
me off the couch to come tell me, do you
have a couple of minutes for me? And I was
always thrilled with that whole aspect of guys just calling
me and being ready to come in and play.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
I'm just following my path. I came into this league
around older.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Veterans, great guys, always passing the game on and when
I get a phone call.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
I always chuckle. I always called TIBs.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
I laugh about it, and I always he always told
me I would be one of the last guys to
be standing from the team to keep trying to keep
playing the He always told me, You'll have a long career,
and I always smile.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
I'm like, you really think so?
Speaker 4 (15:10):
In each year I get the phone call and they're like,
do you want to come?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
And I'm just like, this is insane. And that's why I'm.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Like, attatch off to the NBA, hats off to my
agent especially, But uh, Colin, I don't take it for granted.
One day, I don't take it for granted. I'm just
I'm just enjoying it.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
You're you're you're a little you know you. Donna's Haslam
is another guy that's been doing this for He did
it forever yeah, and he loves it. And by the way,
there is value as the NBA gets younger, there is
value on older guys who who know how to the
weight room practice. Do the young guys come to you. Now,
you may not love the same music, but the young

guys ever come to you and ask you questions about
the league and travel and nutrition and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
All day every day. It's a part of the job.
But I love it though. This is my this is
my life, this is what I came into doing. I
love working out, I love staying in shape, I love
coming around the organization.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I just love being around the guys.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
It's like when every time I thought I was done
and I got another team to call me in and say.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
We got an opportunity for you.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Each time they always told me just be yourself because
all I knew how to be was myself. I'm not
trying to be anybody else, and it always worked out
for the best of me. But just being an older
guy in the locker room and giving your your one
two to the to the younger generation, they always appreciate
that because at the same time, my mind and competition
with anybody, and I really care about my teammates. And
that's what I learned through this league is it's always
(16:37):
each one teach one. The more, the more you give,
the more you always receive. And that's I'm a proper.
I'm a real strong believer in that, and my career
is a testament to that.

Well, your your nicknames are hard hat. I mean that
you're you're a guy that puts in the hours and
you put in the time. And it's a pleasure talking
to you, Taj.

about playing in New York, you know. I remember during
a lot of the great Laker teams in the eighties
and nineties, I can remember watching the games and thinking,
the way they lit the forum, you could see the
faces because there are all these movie stars and I
always used to think I can't see the faces when

I watched other teams. Well, now I watched the Laker games.
You ever noticed that in New York's the same thing
you can see like seven rows deep. The way they
light it feels like it's different. And part of it
is they want it to feel big that you know
they want to send the message out. This is a
great place to play for free agents in the league.
Nothing against San Antonio, but I wasn't watching the fans
last night when they play at Madison Square Garden. I mean,

I'm just you know, Brunston's driving by and I'm like
checking out the fans. It's like it's a who's who.
It just feels it feels very Lakers. Jack Nicholson nineteen

one point, the national championship in college football, the national
champ is top six in the preseason ratings, so you

kind of know going into a season, you know who's
got a chance to win it. Eleven to twelve years.
In fact, last year, Indiana was just outside of that.
Indiana was a good team, Fernando Mendoza. And by the way,
Indiana could have lost five games, Iowa, Oregon, Ohio State, Miami,
they were in you know, Mendoza pulled them two games.
So top six teams in college football, those are your

national champs. So this is the Athletics twenty twenty six
college football preseason Top twenty five, And this tells you
how college football has changed. Indiana, Big ten, Ohio State,
Big ten, Oregon, Big ten, Top three teams, Big ten
Texas who I love but never trust, SEC four than

Miami and Notre Dame. I don't disagree with those numbers.
I don't disagree with anybody in that top twelve on
the screen. And I do think the national champion is
going to come from Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Miami
and Notre Dame. I think it's my gut feeling today
is it's Miami against a Ihio State, and I'd take Miami.

Miami against Ohio State would be my guest. Notre Dame
is also going to be really good, and they're going
to fly through their schedule and they get Miami at home.
So if I had to do an order, i'd have
to see Miami schedule. I'd probably go Ohio State one,
Miami two, Notre Dame three. I like Texas. God, I

don't trust him. Here's Sark this week on arch Manning
the pressure. Is he ready for the season.

of Oregon. I may flip them. But Dante Moore's good.

the top, like fifty quarterbacks in college football.

There's so many good ones.

likely done for the season.

Yeah, No, I mean Oklahoma's kid didn't play well in

Jets fan, like, hey, we're gonna wach that point.

When everybody's belly aching about college football and oh there's
too much money. First of all, look at the names
at the top of college football right now. Ohio State, Texas, Miami,
Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia, I'm sorry. Ratings up, revenue up,
all the teams I want to watch. You can complain
and be grumpy about it, but I'm watching the games

more now than I was ten years ago because I
feel there's I mean, I got an academic power. I
got Miami, I got a Texas school, I got a
Pacific Northwest school, I got Big ten Texas Tech. Now's
got a rich booster. They can compete.

Did none of the dopey politicians say, hey, Nick, did
you see the ratings for the college football Playoff? Are
you just mad that Alabama's not anywhere near the top twelve?
Is that what you ticked off about?

What cracks me up? As they're all saying everybody is
talking about a super conference. We don't want a super conference. Hello,
you got two of them now. They've won sixteen of
the last twenty national championships. The SEC and the Big
Ten right now are super conferences. Look at the revenue
of the Big Ten in the SEC. It's miles above

the other conferences, and they're winning all the national championships
and our preseason ratings it goes Big ten, Big ten,
Big ten, SEC, and then Miami Notre Dame are huge brands.
So you know, Oh, I've been hearing this my whole life.
I I worry that college football is getting top heavy.
It's been top heavy since it used to be top

heavy with Army and Navy.

Yeah, you know.

Now it's top heavy with traditional football powers. The last
forty the.

Here's Pete Bbakua, the Notre Dame ad on the whole
super conference concern.

I think there's going to be two inevitable outcomes. You're
gonna have a super league because there's only going to
be a small number of universities that are going to
wake up year in and year out and say, okay,
we can still invest this type of money to field
a nationally competitive football team. I don't think a super
league is good for college football, and I certainly don't
think a super league is good for college sports.

I think you've got two super leagues now. And by
the way, the argument, well, you're only going to have
a handful of teams that will be able to compete.
We just got out of a twenty year cycle where
it was Bama, Georgia, Clemson in maybe Ohio State. It
felt like for fifteen years and nobody had a problem
with it. It's got more people under the tent now.

the most NIL money are academic powers. Vanderbilt was never
any good. Vanderbilt now gets five star play Indiana, which
has a huge business school. Indiana was a basketball school.
Now they're a football school. So we've got all sorts
of new people under the tent. Indiana never existed, Vanderbilt
never all miss now's got money.

all that Jalen Brown hullabaloo like a couple weeks ago.
That got real quiet, isn't it. I don't know what's
on the horizon, whether it's the Rockets, whether it's the Celtics.

This Lebron to the Warrior stuff makes me wonder if
the Lakers are like, hey, why don't we go after Yan?
Something big is gonna happen, And it's gonna happen before

Usually when there's a big story and it gets very quiet,
the calm before the storm.

Well, I've learned this in politics, military sports. If people
don't want it out, it doesn't get out. Stuff gets
out when some one of the parties wants it out.
So the fact that there's nobody talking, and we just
saw this with the Rams who were working on the

the Raft. We never heard that. That wasn't talked about
most of the big moves durant to the Warriors, like
what in the world's happened? Yannis is a star. The
fact that it's getting quiet, it's a pretty good indication
somebody is working it.

I just wonder when you watch the Knicks with their depth,
they go nine or ten deep. You look at the Thunder,
the Spurs, the three best teams, they're like nine or
ten deep.

Giving up three guys, two or three guys and draft picks,
and that will take away from your depth.

We saw the Nuggets have a good run ended quickly
when they had to lose guys, right, the Celtics, I mean,
their rosters decimated. I don't know, would you prefer depth
or a superstar like Yannis?

Well, the team that's interesting is the Rockets. Yeah, so
it's very clear that the Spurs have better young talent,
and Okacs got more picks and more talent. Houston feels
like really really gifted but missing. They're just gonna keep
falling further behind. I think they like shen Goon, But

what I give shen Goon up for Giannis? You know?
And you know, do you have to give up Amen Thompson?
I don't know. All I know is this in the
history of sports, not everybody win a title. The great
Sacramento Kings teams couldn't win a title, the Niners with
Kyle Shannan, all these Hall of famers have not won

a Super Bowl. There's always a team that doesn't win.
You don't want to be that team. So San Antonio
is gonna win eventually, maybe this year. Oklahoma City's got theirs,
Denver got theirs? Like where's Houston? Because I because buy
for the record is Oklahoma City may be able to
use both their picks, move up and get another top

ten player out of the best draft in a decade.
So I Houston is the team to me that they're
going to fall further behind. Kevin Durant is not getting younger,
and I think they like shn Goon. I like shen Goon.
But if I could replace Shngon with Yannis, I'd have
to give up some picks. I would consider it.

fifty to sixty and he defended Wemby great. I think

he held Webby to two for eleven shooting.

The other thing that you notice is when you have
as many guys, I mean, Bridges is sturdy, Heart is sturdy,
og is sturdy. Is that they can run bruns and
off screens, off big screen setters. And as good as
Stefan Castle is, you can't battle your way through all
of those screens. So, I mean, Castle does a great job,
but I mean they've just got so much, so many

guys that are just strong base athletes.

Interestingly, we've got a chart of the highest payrolls in baseball,
and obviously the Dodgers are one and have an amazing record,
But Interestingly, if you look at the top six, some
of them are treading water.

Yankees are doing great, but the Blue Jays have been
a bit of a letdown. It's early, right, we're a
little more than a third of the way through the season,

Meanwhile, I looked at the lowest spenders. Yeah, let's yeah, well,
and you've got two of them. Two of the bottom four.
Tampa and Cleveland are currently in first place.

Milwaukee doesn't spend a ton of money. The Cincinnati Reds
don't spend a lot of money. It is I've said this, Yes,
the Dodgers have a lot of money. They're all so
brilliantly managed and brilliantly run. Okay, it's not just money,
Like you know, money can create chemistry issues. Do you
spend the money wisely? That's been my criticism of the Steelers,

like it's just not just money. By the way, in
the last decade two losing his franchises in the NFL,
or the Jets and the Giants. This idea that big
market solves problems is how do you spend your money?
Sometimes these big markets where the media is powerful and
talk radio's popular and the owner listens to talk radio,
like New York or Philadelphia, you end up signing guys

where you win the press conference or you win the week,
and you win the back page of the tabloid. But
it's not a smart signing. The brilliance of the Dodgers
is they've let great players go. Manny Machado's gonna be
a Hall of Famer, Seeger Turner, granky. They've let great
guys walk. They've signed the right stars like Mookie Bets.

Everybody loves it, multiple outfield, infield, They've signed the Freddie Freeman,
beloved family man. Oh Tani, no ego. So I just
think it. And I'm not saying this because, oh Colin,
you support the Dodgers. I do. I think they're well run,
but go look at what the proof are in the standings.
There's a lot of small markets. Milwaukee's one of the

top three run organizations in baseball, and it has been

signed Darnell Washington's got a new contract, He's a blocking
tight end. Travis Kelcey last year had twenty more catches
as an old tight end contemplating retirement than Washington's had
in his career. But they signed him up and paid

He's been there every day, you know, to classroom, good student,

So the Steelers spent one hundred and ninety one million
on defense last year and their defense wasn't good. So

signed two guys in the last couple of days that
are from Omar Khan's first draft class. So I've said
this for years. In the Cowboys, they tend to resign

Lebron lost a Game one in the NBA Finals and
won it. It's not there are things san Antonio will
shoot the ball better. Their legs died in the second half,
they looked tired, and they came through a grueling, physical
series against OKAC so I think they'll shoot much better.

But the one thing I can't get past is grown
man strength. Og Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart, Cat, those dudes
have been in NBA weight rooms for years and they
just pushed Wemby around. And I'm not sure this Wemby,
twenty two year old Wemby. You know, go back to

Giannis in year three and then Yannis. Now this is
a different person. And you know, I just there are
some things from Game one I know will last in
this series. For instance, the Knicks are a great fourth
quarter offense. They're not going to become a bad fourth
quarter offense. The Knicks will be the better of the
two teams in the fourth quarter. They're at net rating.

It's their best quarter and it has been all year.
And the second thing I can't unsee is hellad Nick
veterans pushed Wemby around. I mean, Kat was sturdy, and
Kat's not known as a great defensive guy. But I
mean Og Robinson, Josh Hart plays way above his size.
He plays like a power forward. And with that, Taj Gibson,

I love bringing guys on who've been in this league
for twenty years. Taj has been in the NBA seventeen.
He's a former USC Trojan. In fact, I think he
played Kevin Durant in the tournament years ago. Former Nick

I gotta tell you, you guys who have been in

this league forever, and you probably privately talk about this,
you know, I look at San Antonio. Those are kids,
Those are twenty year old kids. You do you see
what I saw last night was that was kind of
men versus kids physically and the rest. Let you play
in the finals, Taj. They're gonna let you bang around.

I think that's a big, a big advantage to the Knicks,
is it not.

Yeah, But that's New York style basketball over the last
couple of years. That's all you understand. That's all you
kind of know. This group's been through a lot of
this tough battles, and I think East coach kind of
makes you got that kind of team. I wouldn't give
so much to slack to San Antonio. They just came
off of a tough series with Oklahoma City, an even

tougher opponent, so I look forward to them playing He
was strong in the second game.

When you face a Wemby last night. He even struggled
to get rebounds. I mean they were on him, grabbing him.
Is there a match up against Wemby? Would you like

how well Cat matched up to Winby defensively? That surprised you?

This Cat all together this whole year, through the times
I've been talking to him, He's grown so much as
a player and as a mature adult. And I can
tell I can see it in his eyes even when
the last time I played him in Memphis.

And you can tell with this a group of guys
they had that attitude this year. You can tell by
each each game, every time they don't even celebrate. That's
how eager, that how hungry they are this year. And
I'm just so proud of him because you tell you
he just sees that they have a real shot this time.

Did you think Jalen Brunson was ever going to be
this great?

To be honest with you, Yes, because his dad was
my veteran. I was with his dad almost every other day.
His dad took me I really taught me to rope,
so being in that culture, his dad always had me
watching his game. So even from Belenova, just going to
the games on the road, watching them win, and to
do it not once but twice the n C Double

A with the same group of guys.

And then to see them where they're playing.

Now, you gotta understand how tough it is to play
in New York City, but to have the whole city
believing in you right now after so many years, Come on, Colin,
you gotta give it to the kid, Gotta give it
to him.

Yeah, what makes New York different? You've played for eight
different teams. Why is New York different?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Because the fan base.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
The fan base is so in your face everywhere you
go from morning tonight.

They're gonna let you have it. And then you know, everybody.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Knows whoever plays that in the Knicks and for the
Knicks in the garden in that fourth quarter. The fans
are even though even tougher to play in front of.
So to have that that crowd going for you, to
believe it in you, and now the whole turnaround, like
you gotta understand the streets of New York really believe
in this team, the whole quick turn, the whole turnaround
is just awesome, and they really got people believing, even myself,

and I'm extremely proud of him and the whole team.

So Tips is known as a defensive coach, and he
is a great defensive coach. He gets let go. They
bring in Mike Brown, and yet their defense has been
excellent this year. Does that surprise him, because you.

Got to think about him, Mike's Brown's been proven. I
remember playing against Mike Brown my rookie year when he
was with the Cavs and all the things he got
to deal with back then.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
It's his time, man, I truly believe it.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
He has a good group of young men that's ready
to believe and ready to win now.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
And it's always tough.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
We go from a hard nosed coach to a coach
that a lot of people don't kind of understand and
kind of see his philosophy. But it's panning out just
great and it's a huge story and a great success
for the future. I'm extremely proud of coach Mike Brown.

He's the man taking a lot of punches to the
face and keeping a strong smile and the way he's
been leading this next group is something special, Taj.

The Spurs are built on the draft. I mean they
got Dylan Harper, they got a whim be Keldon Johnson.
It's a draft and developed, lottery pick team. The Knicks
traded for Og and traded for Kat and trade. They're
built the opposite. So a lot of times when you
draft and develop and guys grow together, they're very close.
The Knicks came from all different places and yet they're

crazy close that. I mean, you've been on so many teams.
Explain to me. Maybe it's the villanova guy thing, but
the Knicks feels so close despite the fact they didn't
grow together like San Antonio.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Well, you've got a thing about that culture just being
with the next so many years, that culture that Leon
rose and that whole front front line of different individuals
coming together, including Tibbs.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
That culture just came together.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
The family if you look deep into it, everybody's really
connected through the years, from the past to presence and
now out and.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
It's a real family there.

Even from the years I was playing there, guys has
got tighter and tighter, and they go when you go
through those pains and ups and downs, you get even stronger,
and I believe this year, those young men has just
been through so much, and I'm so happy for them
because you can understand the losing.

Your head coach last year, to go through the.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Ups and downs for the summer, and then to come
back even stronger this year in front of that New
York crowd, you gotta tip your hatshover got them so.

Wemby obviously is such a devastating defensive player. I mean,
you could see the NIXT doing you turns. You know,
he just literally not only does he block four shots
in ninety block eight if people challenged him offensively. Though,
in my opinion, sometimes he spends too much time away
from the basket. I'd like to see Wemby. I mean,
(08:48):
I don't need him planted within four feet. Do you
worry sometimes that I mean, I guess it's the NBA,
but that he's become sometimes too much of a perimeter
player or is that okay for you?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I like it and I don't like it sometimes because
he's so talented, sometimes we forget like he could do
really everything, and we want to see him do one
thing sometimes that win the game. But he's he's out
there trying to make all his teammates better at the
same time because at times they rely on him so much,
or even on the defensive side, because when he's out
there on the defensive end, he's he's coming from the
(09:24):
three point line to block a shot. So I think
with the game's going on, he's going to learn to
take advantage of his matchups. But knowing that Mitchell, Robinson
and Cat two different big men, but Scott's limit. For
this kid man, he's the only get to keep getting
stronger and do his playoffs. He's been proving it and
proving and proving because going against Oklahoma City was tough enough,
(09:45):
but we're going to see what else he has been
proved now against this toughen you up NIXT group.

You know, to be an NBA player, you have to
be so gifted, so good. Every NBA player was not
only the best in his high school. Most of you
with the best in your county. Many of you were
the best in your state. And yet Jalen brunts and
the smallest Nick in the fourth quarter, the team just
like parts the Sea, they just let Jalen take over.

I think that's harder than people think. I mean, the Celtics,
how Brown and Tatum and sometimes I'm not sure who's
getting the ball, and do they love each other? It
is interesting. Maybe it's because he took a team friendly
deal that lets other guys get paid, but to be
so the team, the Knicks are so willing to let
their little guy take over set screens, do the dirty work.

I mean, it's is it like that with every NBA
team you've played for, where hey, he's our score, let
him get his It just feels like the Knicks are
different that way.

the most NIL money are academic powers. Vanderbilt was never
any good. Vanderbilt now gets five star play Indiana, which
has a huge business school. Indiana was a basketball school.
Now they're a football school. So we've got all sorts
of new people under the tent. Indiana never existed, Vanderbilt

I don't know. All I know is this in the
history of sports, not everybody win a title. The great
Sacramento Kings teams couldn't win a title, the Niners with

market solves problems is how do you spend your money?
Sometimes these big markets where the media is powerful and
talk radio's popular and the owner listens to talk radio,
like New York or Philadelphia, you end up signing guys

where you win the press conference or you win the week,
and you win the back page of the tabloid. But
it's not a smart signing. The brilliance of the Dodgers
is they've let great players go. Manny Machado's gonna be
a Hall of Famer, Seeger Turner, granky. They've let great
guys walk. They've signed the right stars like Mookie Bets.
(35:42):
Everybody loves it, multiple outfield, infield, They've signed the Freddie Freeman,
beloved family man. Oh Tani, no ego. So I just
think it. And I'm not saying this because, oh Colin,
you support the Dodgers. I do. I think they're well run,
but go look at what the proof are in the standings.
There's a lot of small markets. Milwaukee's one of the

top three run organizations in baseball, and it has been
for years.

I was saying earlier. I mean, Darnell Washington is a

loves Darnell Washington and he is he and Mike McCarthy are.

I mean they had like the Broncos fifteenth rated Cowboys tenth.
I'm not going to tell you what company it was.
Is terrible. But everybody's got the Ravens like top three

or four in the league. I don't know. If Jesse
minners a head coach, you could be a coordinator. I
don't know. The only thing I know, and I don't
know if Joe Burro's going to finish a season. He's
got another bad offensive line. The only thing I know
about the division the the AFC North Pittsburgh spends way
too much money on defense, linebackers and tight ends. That's
all I know. Last and offensive line spending second most

in linebackers, third most in cornerbacks. And if they just
signed Darnell Washington's got a new contract, He's a blocking
tight end. Travis Kelcey last year had twenty more catches
as an old tight end contemplating retirement than Washington's had
in his career. But they signed him up and paid
him money. And Mike McCarthy earlier today could not be

more excited love Darnell.

He's been there every day, you know, to classroom, good student,
he's a pros pro. I've been very very impressed with him,
So you know, he's He's not everything we've asked, we've
you know, I just think, you know, I know, if
keeps saying this in year one year, as you get
to know your players, you know, to certain schemes, you
may till one way to the other variations of schames,

and I you know, and definitely we've been doing that
with our tight ends and he's a big part of
that reason.

So is he fast? Because the Steelers in back to
back seasons have had the slowest team speed according to NNGS.
So they're one of the slowest teams and they're resigning
a linebacker and a blocking tight end. We know you're
strong and tough, get faster, and you better save some

money for Joey Porter Junior. He hadn't gotten paid yet.
So the Steelers spent one hundred and ninety one million
on defense last year and their defense wasn't good. So
this year, let's change some things. Oops kidding? Linebacker, blocking
tight end, more money. I don't get it. I just
(40:34):
I give up with the Steelers. I think they re
signed two guys in the last couple of days that
are from Omar Khan's first draft class. So I've said
this for years. In the Cowboys, they tend to resign
their own guys. You know, it's kind of validating their picks.
Don't love that. I like going out like the Rams
and being like, yeah, I mean, we like our pick.
(40:54):
We like Miles Garrett Moore, we like our cornerbacks, we
like Trent McDuffie Moore. That's what philadelph Field will do. Like,
we like our picks, but we'll go get a guy
of Saquon Barkley if he's better than guys we drafted.
Pittsburgh's kind of leaning into their guys, kind of validating
their picks. I'm not a fan of that, but some
of them, yes, I don't know because I'm all worked

up today. Boy, they're happy in New York. They are
