Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Daniel Jeremiah works at the NFL network. He's got a podcast.
It's a good one. Move the Sticks. His twenty fourth
NFL combine coming up. Somebody we rely on and trust
as the NFL season ends. You know, it's interesting, Daniel.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
You know this.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
A lot of times the free agent market can be
initiated and propelled because there are weaknesses in the draft.
So's it's obviously if you look, I mean, there's some
really good edge rushers. It's a pretty good, pretty good
d line draft. I think in the first at least,
there's some nice offensive tackles, a couple of utah. Maybe
where is the draft lacking in your opinion, which will
(01:08):
increase the activity in free agency in March?
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Well, I will give you two positions, Colin. First of all,
the running back position. Draft wise, I think we have
one first round caliber back, and then I think there's
a chance we don't see one even going the second round,
and we'll see a flurry of them there after at
that point. So I think there's a really good crop
of free agent running backs which is going to inform
maybe some franchise tag opportunities for teams, or teams are
(01:34):
going to be aggressive and going out and paying some
of these young veterans that are on the market. And
then the obvious elephant in the room is the quarterback.
I mean, there's one for sure quarterback who everybody believes,
myself included, goes one to one, and then there's a
conversation on Ty Simpson and where does he fit into
this whole thing. But when you have one and a
half first round caliber quarterbacks and there's a lot of
(01:56):
teams out there that have a need of the position,
it's good to be the Malik Willis's. It's good to
be the Niners holding on to Mac Jones to see
what comes their way as well.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, so let's get to two evals. I like Fernanda
Minosa kind of more than everybody else does. I don't
think he's Andrew Luck or Sam darnold athleticism, but I think.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
We were.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
The staff showed me something this morning. Tom to LESCo,
our friend said, Matt Ryan. I think he's bigger, stronger,
and more athletic than Matt Ryan. Although I think that's
a good comp. I think he is a if he
gets decent coaching, he is a plus player. He's a
franchise guy. I'll make a couple of Pro Bowls, maybe several,
three or four?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Is that? I mean?
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I think he's big, accurate, He's been bloodied his lip
multiple times. He's Some say that Indiana offense is too simplistic,
maybe they need what do you see?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Well, yeah, I talked to Tom and I actually I
told him I was going to steal some that with
Matt Ryan because I do like that just in terms
of kind of the grittiness, toughness aspect of it. I
look at quarterbacks almost in terms of families as opposed
to just like that single comp. I think if you
had kind of that Jared Goff Matt Ryan family, he
kind of fits into that family. Whether or not, whether
(03:17):
or not he's a brother or a cousin. I'll let
everybody else figure that out. But that's kind of the
style of quarterback that he is. And for the evaluation
part of it, look when you go through and you
watch third and seven plus throws, which weeds out all
the RPOs.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
That everybody you know complains about.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
When you go look at him in the red zone,
when you go look at him in big games, when
you look at him on big moments, see the end
of the Penn State game, see the National Championship game.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
This guy stepped up and done it every single time.
So I'm a huge believer in him.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
And I would also say, for as much grief as
as everybody has all this this problem with the transfer portal,
what the transfer portal has done for the evaluation process.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
We've seen bo Nicks with inferior players at Auburn.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Then go play with good players at Oregon and look
at the play and look what you get there. We
saw cam Ward, who is an incarnate word to Washington State.
All of a sudden he gets with Miami and look
what he does with real players. Now we're seeing with Mendoza,
who is a good player at Cal but he gets
a great coach and a great infrastructure, and the guy
goes undefeated, wins the Heisman Trophy, in the National Championship.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
So I thought Jackson Dart was more of a top
of the second round guy. He went in the first
and had a good year.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
I was wrong.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I think Ty Simpson feels like a top of the
second round guy. But I could see the Rams taking
him they got two first. How do you evaluate ty
Simpson at Bama.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, he's my fortieth player, you know, as we are
in the process right now, which I wouldn't look if
somebody wants to take him with the twenty fifth pick,
that's not that out of a realm of possibility, and
I would think that's not really a reach based off
how I evaluated him. I don't think he's one of
those quarterbacks you drop into any of the thirty two
rooms and he's going to have success, you know, in
any system, any supporting cast.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
I do think you need to protect him.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
He's mechanically sound, he throws a nice ball, he's got
touch and accuracy. But when get around him, I thought
there's times he plays a little small, and then the
guy's only started fifteen games and he's been beat up.
So those are the negative sides of it. That's why
I kind of slot him outside my top thirty two.
But if you're the Rams, you got a great offensive line.
He doesn't have to step in and play right away.
(05:16):
So that lack of experience, we can kind of give
you some of that in our system.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Before we needed you to play. I could, you know,
I can understand that.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, let's go back This is always fun. Sam Darnold,
go back online. Tell me what your evaluation was.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Well, we used to be hidden underneath my bed for
a couple of years. Column when my report now it
hangs up next to my diploma on the wall, I'm
going to have it engraved. But no, I look, he
was my top quarterback in that draft lives and I
was actually talking about him the year before because he
has that Rose Bowl game, you know, against Saquon Barkley
and Penn State and that epic comeback.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
He makes some big time throws in that game.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
And I had mentioned at the combine before he was
draft eligible, like this is the guy everybody's talking about.
Is next year's quarterback, you know in Sam Darnold because
of you know, just kind of the natural way he
plays the game. The ball explodes out of his hand.
He's just a real He's just a real fluid, natural
athlete who's got an explosive arm, and he went to
a tough situation, and you know, I do. You know, Look,
(06:19):
I'm so happy for him because he's such a good dude,
and I have always believed in the ability. But I
don't agree with the well, you know, the Jets. They
should have just stayed there. Eventually would have happened. I
think he needed to get out of New York. I
think he needed to get somewhere else. I think that
was good for him, and I think being around Shanahan
that time, there was an incredibly smart decision on his part,
(06:41):
knowing that, look, I'm going to soak up everything this
guy has.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Not only is it going to help.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Me learn football, but then there's also the reality that
this is the offensive system that half the league runs
because they all come from underneath his tree. So for
him to have the maturity to take a step back
and learn that, I thought that that that's one of
the reasons why he is where he is.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
You know how good John Snyder is And I was
just wondering. This popped into my head. When you look
at the Seahawks, he's gone like eight for his last
eight or nine for his last nine on first and
second round guys like not only does it miss like
they all become really good, some become incredibly special. And
I think that the safety from South Carolina. People said
right after the draft, that's that guy's going to be
(07:20):
a star. That's one of the easier second round guys.
Does he have a theme? I mean, why is he
such a good drafter you've been doing this? Is there
something he does that other gms don't do. I mean,
we're putting it up now. I'm sorry to the radio audience,
we're putting it on television. It's just no missus, like,
you tell me what's his secret to this stuff?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Well, he lets the draft fall to him, you know.
For one like Emon Warrior, I think was my fifteenth
or sixteenth overall player. I'm not saying everybody has it
the same, but this guy was a first round talent
who just kind of fell to him, so he.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Took him there.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
But when you start looking at guys who when I
was in Baltimore, we had a red Star meeting where
you would go through and each scout could put a
red star on one player in the draft. Didn't necessarily
mean they were the best player, but they were the
guy that was just the most competitive.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
We talked like he played like a raven, like he
fit us.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
And when you look through like JSN ultra competitive, tough, physical,
Gray's Abel you go to the Senior Bowl. Took nine
million reps. Everybody's trying to go against him, and he
slaughtered everybody like super super competitive.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
On and on and on.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Kenneth Walker uplifted that entire Michigan State program on his shoulders.
Like these guys are all guys, are passionate love football,
and there's no turds, there's no jerks, there's no selfishness
in that group. They're all good dudes, good competitive dudes.
That that to me is the overall theme.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Yeah, it's uh.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I want to I want to ask you about the
Chargers because you work on their broadcast and we said,
I said, you lose Jesse Mintor, your defense probably not
quite as good. You gain Mike Daniel, you'll be a
much more effective passing offense. Plus you get your tackles back.
Plus the Chargers have cap space. I mean, this is
(09:08):
conjecture and projecting, but Jamack and I agree on one
thing next year is that the Chargers will go from
a team that was surviving on offense and flourishing on defense,
or the offense could be spectacular next year and the
defense may I mean mentor was a really really good
defensive coordinator. You tell me, with the Chargers, with that
(09:29):
cap space and Mike McDaniel, what do you think they'll
target in the draft and what will they look like
next year? Because we both believe week one you're going
to watch the Chargers and go, Okay, this is the
hardball Herbert thing that we thought we'd get this year.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Well, Colin, I think when you look at free agency,
I could see them targeting interior offensive line. When you
look at the draft, I could see them targeting interior
offensive line. We look at the trade market, we could
also target the interior of the offensive line. When the
draft's over and you want to bring us some extra
body will bring in some more interior offensive line. So
I mean that is that is that is priority A,
(10:06):
B and C, and it's providing overall depth of that
offensive line, having investing in a third tackle that you
really really like so that you're not you're covered. I
think if they if they have an offensive line that's
healthy and deep, because the tackles are two of the
best in football. So just healthy and deep along the interior,
having a third tackle out there that can withstand some injuries.
(10:26):
All these young guys, these skill guys on offense, these
first and second year players that they've drafted with Joe
Ortiz there are awesome Like McConkey. I think you'll see
him go to another level in this system. Quentin Johnson,
you know, for all the abuse he caught for you know,
some of the drops early on is a funcational, solid player. Yes,
Trey Harris, the rookie Ole Miss made some big catches.
A Ronde Gadsden is a talented rookie tight end. Omarion
(10:49):
Hampton could be one of the top five backs in
the league. These guys are all on rookie contracts. They
cost you nothing, So to me, it's really about just
getting this offensive line locked in, and then defensively, you've
got on corners.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Derwin's still playing an elite level. You've got to sign.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
You know, you've got some free agents on the edge
with Oway and mac but they have plenty of space.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
To do that.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Maybe a defensive tackle, you know, or two in freegency
of the draft.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
But I don't know.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
If I mentioned it, Colin, I would probably address the
interior of the offensive line absolutely.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
And finally, just because somebody gets draft at number one
doesn't mean they're the best player. It's usually a quarterback
because it's a quarterback star of league. Is there a
best player in the draft, Like everybody talks rvil Reese
and my take is, well, the position he'll play in
the NFL may not be quite what he's doing now.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
He's going to get bigger. It could be edge.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I look at Baine at Miami and I'm like, oh,
that's fully formed. That guy's going to walk in and play.
I think actually Miami's got an offensive lineman that feels
like you can put him at guard tackle like that
dude's going to start day one. I think that running
back from Notre Dame looks like that, like, oh, that
guy's gonna pop. Is there a guy if you just
said best player can't miss, because all quarterbacks can miss,
(11:57):
even the good ones early, who's the can't miss in
the draft?
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Well, I mean i'd have love up there, you know,
the running back from Notre Dame. I still, you know,
normally I am true to the grade. So even if
you know, I know cam Ward is going to be
the first pick. He might be my fourth or fifth
player in the draft. So that's not you know, it's
rare that you kind of have the quarterback just in
this draft, because you know there's flaws in all of
these guys, you know, bans, not the prototypical you know,
(12:24):
you know, arm length and all the other stuff that
comes along with that that you can put holes in
all of them. To me and Mendoza, I'm like, he's
one of the years where I think he is the
best player in the draft of my opinion, and I
do think he is one of the safer picks in
this year's draft.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
That's just kind of the way I look at it.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
I don't know, I think you got to get really,
really nitpicky to poke holes in him. I think he's
got a chance to be a really good player, and
that's why I happened with my number one guy.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Okay, so it's Fernando Mendoza Daniel. How does he compare
to Drake May? Is he in that class? Drake May's
more athletic. I mean, he's a better mover, But are
they kind of close?
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I would have those three guys from that draft just
grade wise coming into the process over him.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
So I had it Caleb Drake, Jayde and Daniels.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
All three of those guys would carry a higher grade
than Mendoza. But in this draft class, there's nobody else
that I would put, you know, up there at other
positions higher than the level that he's at.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
I don't think he's as natural as Drake.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Drake's just it was so athletic, and I mean and
just had just such a good feel for movement and
getting around things and making things happen. I don't think
he's quite I think he's a little more robotic, is
why I would describe Mendoza.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yeah, that's fair, that's fair. Great seeing you as allays,
my man.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Good to see you, buddy.
Speaker 4 (13:40):

By the way, you're off tomorrow, Jmax, So you have
your you have your don't you have your tomorrow's headlines today?
In about fifteen to twenty minutes.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
We're gonna do that.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
Yes, sir, Hi, great, thanks for announcing that to the audience.
Now my family is gonna be like, call me tomorrow.
Let's do stuff.
Speaker 7 (15:39):
I wanted a.
Speaker 8 (15:40):
Kind of a day off anyway, So let's go to
Josh Allen the Buffalo Bills colin interesting offseason ahead for
a team that kind of, you know, maybe should have
won that game in Denver, but.
Speaker 7 (15:50):
There's a lot of roster questions ahead. How about this?
Speaker 8 (15:53):
Albert Breer believes Buffalo should target a wide receiver and
free agency, and the two names Brier mentioned Aresh Shahed
from the Super Bowl champs and Alex Pierce from the
Indianapolis Colts. Pierce is gonna get paid, for sure, somewhere,
maybe overpaid.
Speaker 7 (16:09):
Where are you in Shahed or Pierce? Are they like Pierce?
Speaker 2 (16:12):
I don't.
Speaker 7 (16:13):
I feel like they're threes? They're not necessarily No.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I think Pierce is. I think Pierce is a two.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
I would go after Pierce because I think you can
get sixty five to seventy five catches with Pierce. Rashid
Shaheed is a luxury player for the Seahawks because they
had a number one. I don't think he's not a
volume guy. He is a pop guy where he pops
a kick return, you get him down the sideline. Alec
(16:39):
Pierce is a good player. Chris badderd found him. I
think he was Cincinnati went to Indy. Good good player.
I like Alec Pierce. That would be a really solid
number two. They've already got the slot kid at Buffalo,
and I mean who knows. I mean, Keon Coleman may develop.
Quentin Johnson just developed for the Chargers developed, So what if?
(17:01):
What if Coleman develops into a good, solid number two
next to Pierce, who's a good solid two slot guys
of three? You got James Cook excellent tight ends. Maybe
you solve yoursh I don't. I think Alex Pierce a
good player, and.
Speaker 8 (17:16):
Buffalo clearly needs a wide receiver in free agency at hell,
maybe the draft too, maybe the draft as well. All right,
let's move on to the Cleveland Browns. Colin the factory
of sadness in Cleveland. It is really bleak there, but
they've just hired Todd Munkin to replace Kevin Stefanski.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Brown's president Dave Jenkins, are you ready for this?
Speaker 8 (17:36):
Yeah, he thinks people are kicking the Browns while they're down,
But listen to the whole thing.
Speaker 9 (17:41):
Look, I think we're really easy to pick on right
now because we haven't been successful. We haven't established a
consistent run of success. But like any business, any industry,
the more data and information we can have accessible to
inform our decision making, we should be more successful. You've
got to find experts that know raster development, that you
know player development from a coaching perspective, and you've got
(18:03):
to let them operate. The culture can come from the
top of the organization, from the owner and the ethos
and what you want to be. But I think you've
got to find great people to build that roster, to
coach that roster, to drive the end result.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Well, he says, it's easy to pick on us. Well, yeah,
there's a reason it's not easy to pick on the
Seahawks or the Rams of the Niners. They make mistakes
at coach and quarterback repeatedly. So this is not the
market being out of touch. This is the Browns being
poorly run.
Speaker 8 (18:34):
Yeah, their last Division title was nineteen eighty nine. I mean,
I don't even know how to put that in perspective.
I think I was in elementary school nineteen eighty nine.
Of you were probably what Florida Vegas. I don't even
know that is an eternity. Of course, people are going
to make fun of the Browns. You want to make
fun of any team in the league. Obviously you make
(18:55):
fun of the Jets because I'm on the show.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
But if a guy was a.
Speaker 8 (18:57):
Cleveland Browns fan sitting here, you'd be knocking those guys
all the time. They are arguably the worst run franchise
in American professional sports, are they not?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Yeah? I think so.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
I mean I would say the Jets the Cleveland Browns. Yeah,
stops right about there.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
Yeah, that's the bottom of the barrel. All right, final,
let's go to the NBA Colin. Obviously, All Star weekend
is ahead, which has everybody very exciting.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
But first I got to ask about James Harden.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
I'm very excited about what Hardin and Donovan Mitchell can
do in the back court. So against the Wizards, he
had eleven assists, only took four shots. Look at that
behind the back dime. Yeah, I mean as gorgeous. I'm
kind of a James Harden fan. However, he used the
L word here, and I think you're gonna be extremely
interested in it.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
This is sixteen, and here's what he said about loyalty.
Speaker 10 (19:52):
Is basketball and the whole quote unquote loyalty thing is
I think it's overrated. You know. I think this is
a business, and it's a lot of money involved and
a lot of decisions that has to be made if
a player isn't producing, or if you don't see him
the future, or you know, front office some of them
have to do like a job and want to keep
(20:14):
their job, you know, so they got to I feel
like they got to do us best for you know,
to keep their job, and they trade players or if
a guy isn't happy and he wants to be traded
to somewhere else, and it's a problem, not even just NBA,
but like people that have normal jobs have, you know,
have those same problems. It's just not magnified.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
I tend to agree with him, Yes, I tend to agree.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Basketball has always been a little transient, a little transactional.
And yeah, I mean I listen, James Harden's a Hall
of Famer, I I don't think he's necessarily a winning player.
He would push back on that, but I mean he's
been given like seven opportunities with great teammates and it
always flames out. So I think, I think what you
(21:00):
think of Harden is fair. I do think he's a
better I think do they show this pass? I always
think James, he's got really good hands. He can be
a really good distributor if he wants to. He's super skilled.
I mean, there's no doubting he is a all time
great offensive player.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
But he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
You know, I'm always like, if you don't care on
the defensive end, it's like I'm critical of Luca or Carmelo.
I know they're Hall of famers, but when you don't
care as a star on the defensive end, I think
it leaks and bleeds through the organization.
Speaker 8 (21:30):
I mean, you say he's not a winning player, and
that's I would just say in the postseason, he has
had a lot of flop who can in the regular season,
he's amazing. That's like Philip Rivers' career. Philip Rivers in
the regular season was lights out. What do you do
in the playoffs? Like again, like James Harden led the
league in scoring assists, Like, he's a really good player.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
I'm not doubting that he's an excellent player.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
So, like, this is his sixth franchise, right, and all
these people are like, oh, he's played for six different teams.
Speaker 8 (21:57):
Colin, how many jobs have you had, by the way,
in your career, because we know the NBA careers, maybe
fifteen years, maybe seventeen. I mean, I've had more than
six jobs you've had. Why are people putting it picking
Harden about this?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Well, I mean generally a basketball career is fifteen years.
Mine's going to be forty five. So if you have
it's all relative. I mean, I think if you have
an NBA career, you become what I often call on
the show a bounce around the league guy. And Steph
Curry doesn't bounce around the league because Golden State's never
(22:30):
letting him go. Lebron bounced around on his term. Yeah,
the people have been worn out by James, and relative
to how gifted he is, he shouldn't have bounced around
that much. He's what you'd hope if he played defense,
he wouldn't be bounced. He wouldn't have left Houston. That's
where he would have stayed well.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
Again, in the history of the league, a lot of
guys have been bounced around the league. Guys, I mean hell,
other than like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry, there's a
handful of guys who only played for one franchise. You know,
the stars they tend to, I mean, Patrick Ewing, kim Olaja.
A lot of these guys didn't end where they were
major stars.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
So I don't know.
Speaker 8 (23:06):
I can't believe I'm defending James Harden here. Maybe I'm
trying to get an invite to his next birthday party
at one of these jiggle joints that he goes to.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
But uh sounds like j Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd line.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
We get tomorrow's headlines today.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
at noon Eastern nn am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Well a day early, first things first, around the Corner,
we get a day early version of tomorrow's headlines today. Jamack,
NFL seasons closed out, the NBA season is heating up?
Are you ready, my friend?
Speaker 7 (23:48):
I'm a little nervous Colin, this is a tough, tough week.
Let's see all right, you see these.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Tomorrow's headlines today, friction time all will be the headline
for the sea Hawks next season.
Speaker 8 (24:00):
Okay, so again next season, we haven't seen the draft,
we got the combine, free agency, a lot to happen,
but the headline for the Seattle Seahawks next season will
be Seattle got a lot day learning to do. Okay,
as of now, what are we February twelfth?
Speaker 7 (24:19):
Something like that.
Speaker 8 (24:20):
I have the Seahawks missing the playoffs next year. Now,
I know you're gonna fall out of your chair, but
just hear me out. This Clint Kubiak situation is gonna
be big, Colin. Again, we don't know who's gonna be
the replacement, but we just saw the impact that Ben
Johnson had in Detroit.
Speaker 7 (24:33):
Massive drop off. Then we talked about it.
Speaker 8 (24:36):
Three guys in the secondary free agents, Shaheed, Kenneth Walker,
A lot of question marks out there. Obviously, Sam Darnold
is a big one. He succeeded a lot with Kubiak.
Is it gonna work with the new guy?
Speaker 7 (24:48):
I don't know?
Speaker 8 (24:48):
And Colin, then we go to the old schedule. Okay,
first place schedule. Ten of seattle seventeen opponents were in
the playoffs last year. Here are these road games at
the Eagles at Denver. They also have to go to
Washington in Carolina. If you're keeping track at home, that's
three trips from Seattle to the East Coast. Next season,
(25:08):
at home, it's not as difficult to schedule, but they
do face mahomes Herbert the Bears. Patriots like it's it
and Seattle.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
Was not a layup at home this season.
Speaker 8 (25:18):
They were not automatic as in years past, the schedule,
the offensive coordinator leaving. I think as of now they
will miss the playoffs next season.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Okay, that's a take tomorrow's headlines today. How about the
Super Bowl losers the Patriots next season?
Speaker 8 (25:36):
Well, you know I'm down on Drake mayn company given
that postseason run where they got lucky and face bad
backup quarterback there at the end. The headline for the
New England Patriots next season will be easy Drake oven
Pat's cook up another playoff appearance. I've got him in
the wildcard for now. I do want to see what
happens in free agency. I do think they'll do enough
(25:57):
to get into the wildcard Listen May will regress a
little bit. He ain't gonna complete seventy two percent of
his passes be number one in EPA runner up MVP.
Speaker 7 (26:06):
That's not happening again.
Speaker 8 (26:07):
I think we would agree on that, right, but the
continuity remains McDaniels vrabel I like that. I think, as
you said, they've got to do some upgreats, Colin. I
look at these this road schedule for the Patriots and
again schedules, we'll see what.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
Happens around the league.
Speaker 8 (26:21):
At Chicago, at the Chargers, at Seattle, at Jacksonville.
Speaker 7 (26:26):
That's four teams that made the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (26:28):
They're not going to face six rookie quarterbacks like they
did last year six last season they won six to
zero rookie quarterbacks. As of now, they will face it
looks like Mendoza is going to be the only rookie
could be a rookie with the Jets. They may get
lucky and Quinn viewers as an opponent. So I think,
you know, theyn't make the playoffs, but barely as of now.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Tomorrow's headlines today super Bowl sixty one.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
What do you see again?
Speaker 8 (26:54):
We're eleven months out and I got a little creative
with this one. The headline for Super Bowls sixty one
will be the city of end zones LA and LA
stuck in super Bowl traffic and interesting.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
Yes, I'm going Rams Chargers, Colin.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
I think the Rams are the best team in the
league heading into the offseason, and I think the Chargers
had the biggest upgrade adding McDaniel as the ROC. You
just heard Daniel Jeremiah. All they need is interior alignment,
Like that's the big need. Obviously, Mentor going getting ahead
job and leaving is a big loss. But they get
the best. They're great tackles back on both sides. I
(27:30):
like the scope position, guys. I love McDaniel. I think
the Chargers are like a twelve win team next year.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
I don't think it's crazy Rams Chargers. We had a
Mets Yankee Subway series. I don't think it's crazy. Tomorrow's
headlines today, What will be the headline for the NBA
All Star Game?
Speaker 7 (27:49):
Yeah, I know you're fired up. I can tell very
locked in on this one.
Speaker 8 (27:52):
It's tough because there's like the world, there's the old guys,
the young guys. Everybody's confused. They just named Dearon Fox's substitute.
They're like, which team.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
Is on We're giving a shot.
Speaker 8 (28:01):
The headline for the NBA All Star Game will be
shooting Stars Globe.
Speaker 7 (28:07):
Gets trotted by youth.
Speaker 8 (28:10):
I cannot believe they put Belichick and his girlfriend. That's brutal,
but nicely done. I'm going with the young guys, Colin.
I do believe, as Kevin Garnett or sorry, Kevin Durant
articulated earlier, the Euros they don't want to play, no defense. Personally,
I don't think Luke is gonna play. We know Jannis
will not play. Like what effort is Yokich gonna give?
So I'm discounting the Euros. I actually think the young
(28:32):
team Anthony Edwards, Kate Cunningham, Jalen Johnson.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
What did we see last year in the playoffs, Colin,
the young teams with young.
Speaker 8 (28:40):
Players, they got after it, they defended full court, they care.
I think they take down the old guys, the old heads,
as Kevin Durant called them, and I like the young
guys to win the All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Finally, tomorrow's headlines.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Today, give me an All Star Game MVP J Max.
Speaker 8 (28:57):
So I want a little macro here just because I
have a fun take on this. The headline for the
MVP of the NBA All Star Game will be your
favorite Aunt Edwards leaps right over unk. Anthony Edwards is
my pick for All Star Game MVP and Colin. It's
because there's something going on in Minnesota. I don't know
how closely you've paid attention to what's happening, but they
(29:18):
tried to trade everybody for Yannis a couple of weeks ago,
and everybody knows it, and there's some dogging going on
in Minnesota, like they're not as locked in.
Speaker 7 (29:26):
Some of these guys are like, oh, you were trying
to trade me, It didn't happen.
Speaker 8 (29:29):
Am I going to get shipped in the off season
to get Yannis? And they're not putting forth the effort.
Rudy Gobert's popping off. It's ugly. So my guess is
Anthony Edwards senses that, and as a leader, he goes
into All Star weekend to make a statement. I can
carry our guys. Come on, folks, get on my back.
We can do this and listen. Anthony Edwards is a
great player. You hat him as a face of a league.
(29:50):
I think two years ago and I think he has
a monster All Star weekend.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Yeah, there's some alterai this past draft. You know, we
say this, it was really it was remarkable this past
draft and next year's draft maybe better at the top.
I don't know if there's a Cooper flag in it,
but you know, if Darren Peterson, you know, he's perfect
for the NBA. He occasionally shows up in plays.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Tipit right into the NBA.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
No, I mean, people make so much of that kid
at Kansas like cramps and other people play through cramps,
and it's not ideal, it's not perfect, but this is
not the NFL. Like you can't go to the seventh
round and find rock pretty like you're out of players.
Usually by about the fourteenth or fifteenth pick, you're going
(30:40):
to draft a kid that talented, he's going.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
To get picked.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
My guest, Boozer is really good as well. Peterson. My
guest goes one or two. I mean, you know we've
freaked out when Christian McCaffrey skipped a Sun Bowl. When
you're transcendent talent, I don't care what it is. Just
take him figure it out later, all right, see you tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
It's the hurt
