Speaker 2 (00:23):
All right, last hour for me this week.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Jmax in tomorrow for an hour World Baseball Classic starts.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It is great to have you in.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Got a little trade today, Djmore from the Bears going
to the Buffalo Bills along with a fifth round pick.
Bears get a number two pick. A lot of people
think that's too rich in the Chicago made off with
the Heights. I think Buffalo got a really good player
and the Bears got a really good pick. And Djmore
hasn't missed a start in forever, so I like it.

(00:52):
Speaking of picks, big trade yesterday Rams, Matt Stafford's aging
gave up a first round pick a third round next
year to get Trent McDuffie, the great pick.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
And this is what the Rams do.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
That now makes nine out of the last ten years
the Rams have traded their first round pick, yet they
still remain Super Bowl favorites and have only one losing
season in that window.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
How do they do it? How is it possible?

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Deepest roster next to Seattle in the league, maybe Philadelphia?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
How do they do it?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
In that same time period, the Jets have had twelve
first round picks, the Raiders have had eleven, and they
both stink. It's not that the Rams undervalue picks, but
is it possible the rest of the league mostly overvalues picks.
We've talked about this with Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys fall in

(01:46):
love with their picks. They don't spend much money in
free agency. The Cowboys draft somebody, then they pay them,
and they often pay them two or three times. I
don't like that. There are just many ways to be
great in this league. Seahawks do it through the draft
and then go small game hunting. The Rams get a
lot of picks in the mid rounds like Puka and

(02:07):
Kyraen Williams, and then they go big game hunting. Dvonte,
Jalen Ramsey, Matt Stafford, Trent McDuffie. Yesterday, It's not like
the Rams are giving away the first round picks for nothing.
They got Goff, Jalen Ramsey, McDuffie, Matt Stafford. So they're
getting something for it. But success and excellence in the NFL,

(02:28):
once again, is not just one framework. It cracks me
up when you go on TikTok. It's like, here's how
to solve your liver. Here's how to absolutely invest this
will guarantee a longer life. It's a bunch of grifters.
There's a lot of different ways. Some people have good genetics,

(02:49):
some people have bad genetics. Some people eat like crap
and look great at sixty. There's no one way to
do anything. Hell, Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan both made
a Batman movie. They both worked okay, and they were
very different. So you know, the Rams do it one way.
They're trading the first rounder. The Buffalo Bills just went

(03:10):
out and took a big swing. I would say this
with the Chicago Bears. I think part of moving Dj
Moore is open up space for Max Crosby.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Max Crosby is so.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Much better than anybody you're going to draft at the
end of the first round what the Chicago Bears are doing.
So I'm not I'm not against or for trading first
round picks. But if I get Max Crosby, Jalen Ramsey
in his prime, Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Trent McDuffie.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Absolutely, Okay.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
So it's funny about this, and we've said this before,
is that you know, everybody likes their president that they
vote for, right. Everybody hates senators except sometimes their own.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
You know, we're all that way. So people loved Mike Jordan.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Michael Jordan spent a lot of time at the free
throw line. He wants to average twelve free throws a game.
Nobody complained three times. Kobe Bryant averaged ten free throws
a game. Nobody complained about it. KD Crickets he averaged
early in his career over.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Ten free throws a game. Crickets. His game is fluid.
It's clean, catch and shoot fits everywhere.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
But people are really up in arms because Sga shoots
a lot of free throws. But he's shooting last night
two in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That was it. Two.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
And I've never heard a guy get more flak for
shooting two in the fourth quarter. Here's Nick's coach in
a loss, very good game on SGA.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
One of the areas, obviously, is the free throw line.
You know Sga is he's a tough cover, and he
does a great job of convincing the referees, probably better
than anybody in the league that that you know, he's
getting hit.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
So what people in the NBA are trying to convince
me of is that either the league's rigging it for
a skinny kid who's not very verbal from a tiny market.
Ok see, that's what Adam Silver wants. Let's have our
powerhouse be in our smallest market. Or you're trying to

(05:33):
convince me that the refs on a nightly basis all
get fooled and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna go there.
If you don't have Shack's power or Lebron's body or
ants vertical and you're six to six and a buck
ninety four, you have to manipulate and you have to
find your game. He's a wiry sixty six a buck

(05:55):
ninety five, So for the record, six six and a
buck eyewear buck nine five and I'm six one and
a half.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
He's thin.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
In a pro athlete league, he does get bumped a lot. So,
and also, I think when you don't have certain athletic
gifts and he doesn't have big hops. You know you're
not doing tomahawk slams. Tom Brady? Why was he so
good pre snap? Same with Drew Brees and Payton Manning
because they had to be. Why was Philip Rivers good

(06:24):
pre snap? Because he had to be so. I think
the truth about this with SGA is you don't like
his game. You love Michael's game, you love Kobe's game,
and they lived at the free throw line. You just
don't like his game. It's not flashy, it's not fun
to watch, right, and it's not. But I mean Kevin Durant,

(06:45):
Michael Kobe games people love lived at the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
You know what I look at SGA. You know what
I see. I see a football player.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
I say, I see JSN, the wide receiver for the
Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Either are truly gifted.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Athletically JSN both though, can manipulate coverage, both ascending statistically
every year they get better, so they clearly work on
their craft work ethic manipulation iq EQ.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
That's what I see.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Jsn's oways open and SGA often gets to the free
throw line.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
How how do they do it? Because they're smart.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Guys and they use their body and they manipulate other players.
When you don't have major hops, you don't worry about
getting in the air. You worry about getting other people
in the air. So SGA does a great job to
compromise defenders. And for the record, SGA's game is very unique.
It fooled the Clippers front office. They gave them away.

(07:48):
He was only the number eleven draft pick. So this
guy's been fooling the league and tricking the league and
making defensive players, putting them and compromising spots. Let's give
him credit. It's not about the refs, it's not about
the whistle. The Clippers good front office didn't see it.

(08:12):
First ten picks on the draft did not see it.
It's like JSN he's arguably the best player out of
that draft, but he wasn't a burner. He doesn't run
past people. So I we you know, we love to
do that. For the record, I just I want to show.
I mean, I'm not saying SGA didn't have style here.

(08:32):
He was after the game.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Yeah, late game, they were like sitting a lot of
doubles and I just felt like I ain't got a
shot in a long time, and I wanted to like
kind of have my imprint on the game, especially late.
So I tried to just like a screen game, So
I tried to reject it to get space, and then
OG was like chasing to cut me off, so I
knew I had a step back, stepped into it and

(08:57):
nothing out.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
By the way, why does some things look so good
on some people and so bad on other people? That
jacket just would not work with me at all? But
SGA pulls it off, just like he pulls off getting
to the free throw line about seven, eight nine times
a game, or two times in the fourth quarter last night.
Let's give him credit and JSN credit for getting.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Open all right.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Brian Baldinger is around the corner here on a Thursday,
he was at the combine. Who jumped out to him
that live in Chicago's next. Hey, it's Rob Parker and

Speaker 7 (10:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Fell for thirteen seasons played every offensive line position. You
know him for Baldy's breakdowns. He's currently on the third
floor of the NFL network. Who's at the combine? Now
he's grinding down film. Okay, so let's start with DJ Moore. Yeah,
goes to Buffalo along with a fifth round pick. Bear's
got a second round pick. I will argue people are

(10:47):
roasting the Bills. I will argue this DJ Moore, with
Josh Allen and already excellent tight ends and a great
slot receiver, is going to be very productive, arguably more
productive than he will in Chicago, which has you know,
Roma Dunze and Luther Burden and Colston Loveland and a
very profound run game. So my take is maybe a

(11:10):
second rounder is rich, but I think DJ Moore is
a number one receiver, is he not?

Speaker 5 (11:15):
He is?

Speaker 1 (11:15):
He is?

Speaker 8 (11:15):
And we argued this Colin maybe not in this show,
but you know, we argued in the offseason that Buffalo
needed upgrade the receiver position. Galail Shakier led them in
receiving last year with seventy four catches, but it was
a big tre and then it was just a tight
ends and then it was basically a drop off to
nothing that Dj Moore, I mean in Shakier is a
good player, like you could trust him, but DJ Morris

(11:36):
at number one, and you know, he was just at
an offense where he wasn't the feature guy. Colston Lovelin
became the feature guy. Yep, Roman Newsay is a really
good player. Luther Burden came on. I said, Kias played well.
They spled the ball around and so I think, you know,
Josh is going to really enjoy having Dj Moore out
there to throw to. He when he came out of Maryland, honestly,

(11:56):
I thought he was a running back with wide receiver
skills from the lower body.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
He breaks a lot of tackles.

Speaker 8 (12:02):
He's very powerful and he's uh he you know he can,
he's good after the catch.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Trenton McDuffie, I understand why the Rams got him. Are
you surprised the Chiefs let him go? He's arguably on
any given Sunday their best player outside of Mahomes.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
I saw an emoji from Speed Steve Spagnola.

Speaker 8 (12:22):
It was you know, I mean, he's like, it's not good.
You know, he lost, he lost his best secondary player.
One of the things that allowed Spags in Kansas City
for the last four years to blitz like he did
was because McDuffie could hold up on the outside. You know,
when the Rams made a trade like this for Jalen Ramsey,
they won a Super Bowl two years later. Like, they
got a guy that can match up with Jackson Smith

(12:43):
and Jigma right now. They got a guy that can
play any style of defense you want in the slot,
out wide, he could travel with the receivers. He's a
very good football player. But the Chiefs are and salary Cappell. Uh,
they were going to have to pay him.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (12:57):
They probably are looking at other positions to pay the
right tackle.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
Maybe they draft or whatever.

Speaker 8 (13:02):
So you know, they get some value for McDuffie and
then the Rams get a player that they really cover.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Yeah, so I want to ask you about some of
these prospects because this is.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
What you do.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Francis Malinoa out of Miami to me, if Mendoza wasn't available.
When I watch him, it looks like, I mean, everybody
in this league needs an offensive lineman. I mean there's
almost no team that doesn't need help. All Right, you
played the position, and you played every position on the
old line. What do you make of the Miami Hurricane.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
I went down to watch him in spring ball last year.

Speaker 8 (13:39):
Column Mario Christo Ball runs a training camp and an
off season. It reminded me of playing for the Cowboys
in the eighties. I mean it was three hours, it
was contact, it was every drill. He's got Jason Taylor
coach in the defense line like it was a battle
every day.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
But Marinoa is a stud.

Speaker 8 (13:56):
I when I watch him, though, I feel like I'm
watching Zach Martin at Notre Dame or Quentin Nelson at
Notre Dame playing tackle knowing that they're going to be
an all Pro guard. And I just when I watch him,
I feel like he's going to be an all Pro guard,
and that's not a bad thing. I mean, you know,
Seattle probably doesn't want a Super Bowl without Gray's able.
Tyler Booker stepped in and played right guard for the Cowboys,

(14:18):
an upgraded the position. He said that you play anywhere.
Wherever he plays, he's gonna be happy. But he looks
like an all pro guard to me right now.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Okay, what do you make of arm length?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Discussion on you know, Ruben Bain Spencer Final of Utah.
Everybody's saying, well, the arm length, and it's easy to
be cynical. But Bill Pollian years ago told me one
of his biggest whiffs ever early was on an a
lineman with short arms.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
What are you into?

Speaker 1 (14:50):
That? Is Ruben Bain lest of a draft pick to you?
Because of that?

Speaker 8 (14:55):
We all watched the National championship game in Indiana beat Miami.
The best player on the field that day Ruben Bain
like he was everywhere, and he really showed his versatility.
He beat the guards inside for sacks on Fernando Mendoza.
The way that he ghosts and turns the corner and bends,
and his suddenness to his game, it sort of multifies

(15:15):
some of the short arm arguments.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
There's always outliers.

Speaker 8 (15:18):
Bill Parcells did not draft Mike Singletary because he was
too short. There's always outliers in his position in football,
and I feel like Ruben Bain is just he's been
coached by Jason Taylor.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
They practice hard every day. He's a tough kid.

Speaker 8 (15:32):
When he goes to the NFL, he's not going to
believe just how easy he's like. He's going to look
for extra work is what he's going to do during
the week, getting ready for these games. But I don't
think it's going to affect them the way that they
plays the game right now.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Jeremiah Love I said, Kansas City now has two first
round picks I could see, and they multiple five. I
think they have like three fives or something, and I
can see them. Most teams want to move down. I
can see them. It up a five to move up
two spots to get Jeremiah Love. There's a little Jero

(16:07):
Gibbs to me is what he looks like. Well, what
do you make of the Notre Dame running back? How
good is he?

Speaker 5 (16:15):
I love him. I love the guy and he catches
the ball like a wide receiver.

Speaker 8 (16:18):
In fact, at the combine, after the running backs all
ran and tested, he stayed out there along with his
partner Price.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
They caught passes as a wide receiver.

Speaker 8 (16:28):
For thirty minutes before the next wave of players came
on the field. You first as soon as you turn
the tape on. Honestly, Colin, like sometimes your eyes just
don't deceive you. As soon as you turn a Notre
Dame game on, you see his speed, You see the burst,
you see the speed. If you want to put him
in a category of Saquon and Bijon and Jamir, I

(16:49):
think that's fair. And Kansas City, like the offense went
backwards last year, and nothing against Pachecko and the guys
they've had there, but if they put a star, you know,
next to Patrick Mahomes, that offense could come back to
life pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Yeah, at the combine, anybody jump out to you, was
there any college kids that just landed well for you?

Speaker 8 (17:12):
That Kenyon Sadiq looks just too smooth, Like you know,
you go watch him block down the field, but like you,
I didn't even look at the clock when he ran.
I knew it was four or four like you could do.
It's just a difference, like he just is so smooth
and everything he does. He jumped off obviously Sonny styles
and you know, and you know what he did was

(17:32):
at six five and two hundred and forty four pounds, uh,
and to.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Run the way that he did move the way that
he did.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
I'm just imagining these quarterbacks trying to throw the ball
over his reach in the middle of the field. He's
going to take away a lot of throws in the
middle of the field just in pass coverage alone.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
But he did.

Speaker 8 (17:49):
And then you know, obviously, David Bailey, you know, to
be two hundred and fifty one pounds a run of
four or five like he did. I mean all his
measurables and his size, much saying he's von Miller. Von
Miller is a special cat, but all of his testing
reminds you of von Miller and his You know, and
you talked to Vaughn about pass rush column. He'll tell

(18:09):
you the most important quality, bar none is your first
step quickness and get.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
Off the ball.

Speaker 8 (18:15):
If you want to win the hundred meters dish, you
gotta have a great start. This kid's got the best
start of any of these pass rushers out there. It's
a good quality to have you want to get after quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Okay, here's my mock draft. A lot of GM tell
me that the edge rusher for Auburn is a tweeer,
and I have him too high. Many people think Lemon
doesn't have the speed to be a top twelve thirteen
fourteen pick.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Do you have any concerns with Lemon?

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (18:44):
I mean I just like I voiced earlier, I thought
he really struggled against Notre Dame in press coverage.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
He didn't look like he had the physical quality in
order to beat that. Now now you can learn that.

Speaker 8 (18:54):
You can learn he didn't have a great release and
he didn't have great strength getting off the jam. But
you know, everything else kind of shows up for him.
But that'd be my one concern. And you can pick
apart all these guys, and that's what this process is
all about. And so you watch him every Saturday. You
watch more games than I've watched a usc But when
I see them against certain games, certain teams, I have

(19:16):
a little bit of concern.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Yeah, all right, Brian Baldinger, all these breakdowns are so good.
He's at the NFL network. This is what he does.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Look at that.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, he did great. Will all right, man, thank.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
You, all right, buddy, talk you soon, okay, Yeah, Mark
fu Jason Tim Brian Baldinger.

Speaker 9 (19:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
The I sent that Mark draft out to a few people.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Couple of them thought I was a little uh, you know,
you gotta have a USC guy in the top fifteen.
That's almost a rule, right, j Mac with the news,
Turn on the news.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
This is the headline news.

Speaker 6 (19:54):
All right, let's revisit the big story of the day,
and that is the d J.

Speaker 9 (19:57):
Moore trade. Collin.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
Everybody is excited in Buffalo getting a star receiver and
a fifth round pick in exchange for the sixtieth overall
pick in the draft.

Speaker 9 (20:07):
A lot of ways you can go here.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
I think, you know, let's tackle the Bills for a moment.

Speaker 9 (20:12):
You know, they just watched the New.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
England Patriots leap frog past them win the division.

Speaker 9 (20:16):
Yep, go to the Super.

Speaker 6 (20:17):
Bowl and you're like, whall, wait, wait, wait a minute,
we got Josh Allen here. I don't want to say
it's a panic move, but you know, when you fire
your coach.

Speaker 9 (20:25):
GM's now on the clock. He had to do something.

Speaker 6 (20:28):
I think this is a splash move to get a guy,
a wide receiver ready to come in and contribute. I
like it, I don't love it. I think they have
some holes on defense, Colin. It's an aging defense.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Well, I don't have a pro bowler on defense.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
It's also a problem, where would you peg Josh Allen's bills.
Now that they grab DJ Moore, where would you peg
them in the hierarchy in the AFC.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
I mean, I think offensively they have all the components
to be great. Yeah, you know, I think they're a
top four team in the I mean, you know, we
complain about it's hard for me to fault aggressive. So
I get DJ Moore? Yeah, and I get a fifth
round pick. Maybe you could have got I mean, do
you think you can get Dj Moore and a fifth

(21:14):
round pick for just a four You've got to give
up something. And they've got a first and a third,
and you know they're going to use those on defense.
They also drafted defense last year, so you know, I
I think everybody's selling their stock on Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
I don't buy it.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
If they get if they get a running back and
a nege rusher and the right tackle, they're going to
be good.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
And I think Buffalo's.

Speaker 9 (21:37):
Got three big ifs though.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Come on, well, no, I mean, the Jacksonville doesn't need
that much that the Texans don't need that kan Kansas
City has two first round picks and what they need
is readily available. A corner, an offensive tackle, and a
edge rusher. That's probably those those are I mean, they
don't really need if they need a running back, a corner,

(22:01):
they need an offensive tackle and an edge, and they're
going to address all those.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
All of those were their first four or five picks.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
So so hierarchy are we doing? Patriots Broncos?

Speaker 1 (22:10):
They If I was my hierarchy, if I did hierarchy today,
I would say Ram's best team.

Speaker 9 (22:16):
Let me just do AFC first.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
No, I don't want to do AFC.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Ok So hold on, I would say Ram Seattle. I'd
put Chicago three. I think i'd probably put Buffalo for Denver.

Speaker 9 (22:31):
B Buffalo over Denver.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Yeah, okay, Buffalo for Denver.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Five.

Speaker 9 (22:44):
Chargers.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Sorry, that's something I don't think. That's terrible.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Chargers six, New England seven, Detroit eight, Green Bay nine,
and Texans ten.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
No Jags, no, nobody.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
That eight nine. I mean, the Jaggers couldn't win a
home playoff game, so that's just one man.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
All of a sudden, it feels like the league is
of the parody. After that, I feel like the Rams
are at the top. I mean, dude, I don't know
that Seattle can be too callin, so they're losing their
OC Kenneth Walker.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
It sounds like rashid Heat's gone but integral pieces man. No,
Walker had been injured for years. He had a great
playoff run. You don't give a Super Bowl MVP a
long deal. Like I was talking to somebody about it
this week and they're like, listen, it's the perfect time
to move off him. He was great for the playoff
run Dot You Trophy, but he has been dinged up

(23:35):
for most of his career.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
Fair all right, let's move on to uh oh man,
this has gotten ugly quickly. Russell Wilson v. Sean Payton.
Remember that messy breakup? Oh boy, well, you know I
didn't realize this Russ. Russ went on a podcast and
addressed the feud with Peyton, and honestly, Russell Wilson sounds
like he's still very angry.

Speaker 9 (23:55):
Here we go.

Speaker 10 (23:57):
I don't say much. I never hardly ever say anything,
and I think this is time the place. But sometimes
you get fatigued of people talking about you. You just say,
like you mentioned, you're all human, you know. But it's
one thing for people that maybe aren't in the field
to me, when you've been in the ring or you've
been you know, on the same side, this and that,
and I got the same amount of rings as you got,

(24:19):
meaning Sean, right like, yeah, and listen, I got a
lot of respect for him as a play caller this
and that. But to take a shot, I don't, I don't.
I don't like, you know, I don't think it's necessary.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
I think that's fair.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
I don't know that I've ever heard of NFL player
play the rings argument A ring that's an NBA argument.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Isn't it. Well, I think I think it's a fair argument.
Is that I got a ring, you got to ring,
and you know, let's not. I think that's fair. I
think I think Russell's taken a lot of heat, some
of it deserved.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
He usually doesn't fire back, but this is about as
ornery as you'll catch him, right yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
And I think everybody has a right to defend themselves,
and Russell's taken a lot of crap through the and
he never fires back. He has every right to have
an opinion, and Sean tends to leave with his chin.
I mean, Sean and Russell were never gonna work. Their
personalities are opposites. One's very optimistic, one is hard, you know,
I mean, they're just different. Stages generationally different. It was
never gonna work. But Russell's taken a lot of craft

(25:19):
for years and never fired back.

Speaker 6 (25:20):
So yeah, I do like this. Yeah going not not
full heel, but he is. I mean right now, he's
a punching bag. He has been for a couple of
years because he hasn't been a good quarterback. Would it
have been fair if Russ said something like, listen, I
didn't play great, but Sean Payton was a jerk to me.
Would that have been a fair statement? Because remember at
the end, they were like, hey, take a pay cut

(25:41):
or we're dumping you.

Speaker 9 (25:42):
Remember that.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
I think it was after like a Buffalo game or
something like that, and it was just Russ was just like, WHOA,
what's going on here?

Speaker 9 (25:50):
I mean, that's fair.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
You usually take the high road. People take shots at
you all the time. You don't ever fire.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
It's but if it was somebody that obsessed over it
and they were high profile proigh fireback, you know, I
think everybody has a right. Some people are very thin skinned.
I'm lucky, I'm not, but I know, you know, I mean,
Russell has not countered on about ninety five percent of
the things people have said he has a right five
percent of the time to fire back.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
So the only problem with playing the whole rings thing
is Peyton's still around. Denver's got a pretty good team.
They had number one seed. Peyton may get another ring
and then he could fire back at Russ and Russ
has nothing. So I didn't like the rings angle. I
think he should have just been more forthright and just
said what he felt. Anyways, final story is your boy,
Kyler Murray colin.

Speaker 9 (26:35):
Waiting, waiting, waiting?

Speaker 6 (26:37):
Will he go to Minnesota, will go to Hindy? What's
going to happen? He will not go to the Jets suite?

Speaker 9 (26:42):
We hope.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
Anyways, Before he went NFL back in twenty nineteen, Kylo
was drafted by the Oakland Athletics and opted to declare
for the NFL Draft. Well A's GM David Forst said
the team is always open to him exploring a return
to baseball if Kyler Murray doesn't get any looks he
wants from any good teams. We know he's going to

(27:04):
get a tiny salary because he's getting paid out. Do
you think there's any world where he just says I'm
gonna go play baseball.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
The idea that you can just go you know what,
I'm just gonna switch sports. Don't buy it. Wait, baseball
is highly skilled. It's never been deeper and more global.
There's never been more pitching talent. There's never been more
guys throwing turbo sliders and four seamers and guys throwing

(27:30):
ninety seven miles an hour. The idea that you can
just walk in and play not gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (27:36):
Well, I guess the counter would be the Oakland A's
have been pretty horrible for many years.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (27:42):
I don't know what's up with their minor league system.
But if you've got Kyler Murray, you want to showcase him.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Do you not?

Speaker 6 (27:48):
I think that would be great for baseball. Hey, look,
we got to even if he flops, who cares? We
got his numbers from his time at oklad Who listen.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
He's a great athlete.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
But I you know, when Dion Sanders went into baseball,
it wasn't a global sport like it is now. I mean,
the talent in baseball is insane. I can remember growing
up in the seventies and eighties, if a guy threw
outside of Nolan Ryan or JR.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Richard, if a guy threw like ninety eight. It was staggering.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Everybody throws ninety seven now everybody.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
I mean, it's hard to find a guy.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
I mean, there are no guys throwing eighty on a staff,
you know, high eighties. It's like the sport's so good
right now, with so much talent that the idea that
an athlete from another sport can just waltz in. It's
like baseball's a little like golf, you know, years on
the green matter, like just it's just a repetition. That's
why even the best hitters they're in the cage every

(28:41):
single day.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
Yeah, but you're telling me this was a first round pick.
This isn't, by the way, anybody's saying, Oh, this.

Speaker 9 (28:47):
Is Michael Jordan.

Speaker 6 (28:47):
The say Michael Michael Jordan was on a first round
baseball pick. Okay, Kyler Murray was an elite baseball player,
big time prospect. And the idea that he can't just
pick up a bat and after six months get back
in the swing of things, cheezy pun alert.

Speaker 9 (29:02):
I don't think this is a terrible idea for it.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Boy, he's got a small strike zone. Well, Ricky Henderson's
strike zone.

Speaker 6 (29:10):
Oh, Ricky Henderson one of my favorite players. Growing you
can name all your seventies guys, I don't know who
they are, but Ricky Henderson was one of my favorites
going up, and there's.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
A lot of people's favorite Jmack with a news.

Speaker 7 (29:22):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Are you decent herd Line or tomorrow's headlines today?

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Next with Jmack.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Are you desensitized to the dozens of notifications you get
on your phone all the time? But if that latest
ping is from your security camera, ignoring it could spell disaster.
I mean, if you're on a flight, you're out of town,
you're at a movie, you may see the footage in

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Well, the NFL is still positioning for the off season.
JMC knows what's going to happen. No tampering, just transparency.
We do it every week at this time. Tomorrow borrows headlines.
Today our soothsayer makes predictions. What is the headline for

(31:07):
Max two x Crosby, soothsayer?

Speaker 9 (31:11):
What our reference listen?

Speaker 6 (31:12):
I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 9 (31:13):
Been on a bit of a heater of late.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
We had a couple of amazing calls here Kenneth.

Speaker 9 (31:16):
Walker super Bowl MVP.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Then there was something in the NBA I already forgotten,
so Max Crosby. A lot of people are saying, oh,
maybe Dallas is in the mix Buffalo, could they be?
I got a surprise for you. The headline for Max
two x Crosby will be Sack to the future, Motor
City unleashes matter, Max Colin. I think the Detroit Lions

(31:38):
make a big splash and go after Max two x
Crosby to pair with Aiden Hutchison, fix the defense. They
got the new offensive coordinator. I don't want to push
the alarm in Detroit. But it feels like the Super
Bowl window maybe shrinking.

Speaker 9 (31:53):
Colin.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
You know Jared Gobs, my guy lives out near me.
I've seen him in public. Super friendly gentlemen. He's thirty
two years old. After this season, Jared Goff's dead cap
hit drops twenty nine million dollars. I don't want to
say he declined it all. Last year the offense wasn't
as good. You know, they just weren't as good of
a team. I wonder if they see some of this.

(32:14):
Oh man, the Rams are all in shucks. Look what
the Bears just did with Ben Johnson in year one.
The Vikings are going to be back. Michaeh Parson's coming back.
I don't know what the heck the Vikings are doing,
but this is a tough division. I think the Lions
are like, hey, we got to go all in. Let's
make our moves now. I like the trade of Montgomery
a declining asset, get more picks, Max Crosby, Can I
sell you on Detroit making a splash move.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
It just feels like they have bigger issues than an
edge rush. But you know, it's interesting Tomorrow's headlines today.
What's the headline for Super Bowl MVP. You called it
Kenneth Walker. Yeah, I'm surprised you think the Seahawks just
move off him. I mean, who knows what Charbonnay's level
health level is going to be like when he comes back.
But Kenneth Walker's going somewhere.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
The headline for Kenneth Walker will be kay walk this way,
g men blocked that way. Oh yeah, oh yeah, you
know that song back in the day. I heard this somewhere.
Giants making a splash move going for Kenneth Walker quarterback
on the rookie deal in Jackson Dart new head coach
in John Harbaugh, Colin, this kind of looks good, right,

(33:19):
Cam Skataboo and Kenneth Walker a won two punch very
like it, and you got on the outside, you'll have
a Malik Neighbors coming back from injury. Colin, It does
kind of feel like the arrow is pointing up in
New York. I think there's some issues on the offensive line,
but you can overpay slightly for Kenneth Walker when you
know you need a run game to take pressure off

(33:40):
your young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Well he give you.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Also, between Skataboo and Walker, you're talking about guys who
were great after first contact. It's bullyball. They're they're a
little similar. Walker's got better straight line speed, but they're
similar in that very difficult once they break through the
D line. To bring them down, you'd be a very
physical John Harbaugh type of offense.

Speaker 6 (34:02):
And I think you would agree. Given how many trips
Jackson Dart had to the blue tent, I mean he
was paying un in the blue tent. Harball is gonna
look at the tape and say, whoa, hey, I like
to scrambling quarterback. We need less running from you. We
need you upright. Let's get a stronger running game to
help that.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
So I think you're right.

Speaker 6 (34:19):
The Giants probably go from you know, up to like
seven or eight wins.

Speaker 9 (34:22):
Maybe can can he can nine? Could they win nine?

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Eleven? Maybe twelve?

Speaker 1 (34:28):
Tomorrow's headlines today the perpetually unhappy AJ Brown one of
the better receivers in the league.

Speaker 6 (34:35):
What say you, yeah, I've flip flopped on this like
a politician recently. You know, I thought AJ Brown would
have like six or seven teams interested. All of a sudden,
the DJ Moore trade throws a wrinkle, like is anybody
giving a lot for AJ Brown, But I got one
for you, Colin the headline for A J. Brown this
offseason will be turn that Brown upside down. Aj All

(34:55):
smiles in New Nest. How about the Baltimore Ravens getting
help for Lamar Jackson adding a stretch the field number
one receiver. Ravens just saw Buffalo go all in. They
just saw hell New England passed us, Denver passed us.
Here come the Chargers. We've got to do something. Jesse Minterer,

(35:15):
new coach. I don't think they want to rebuild. I
just looked up Lamar's age. He's twenty nine. Colin turn
turn twenty nine in January. The clock is kind of
sort of ticking on the two time MVP. It's not
fair to say he's declining, but he's coming off a
bad year. He was injured. I think at some point
you've got to get him.

Speaker 9 (35:32):
A number one.

Speaker 6 (35:33):
Would you say he's had a number one receiver in
the last I don't know, three years, like a credible
number one's they Flowers is good, but he's not a
number one.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
No, he's a two.

Speaker 9 (35:42):
Do you think that?

Speaker 6 (35:43):
Baltimore says, hey man, listen, bab Bills are all in
we're not all in and Lamar is in control. Remember
he sat in on the head coaching interviews and Lamar
was offering input into what's going to happen with this
team going forward.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Tomorrow's headlines today, how about instead of optimism, which NFL
team will have the worst off season?

Speaker 9 (36:05):
Well, they're already.

Speaker 6 (36:06):
They already got it started earlier this week. I don't
want to show my hand too early. This team is
rapidly declining. The headline for the worst off season in
the NFL will be Die Nasty Chief's crown looking a
bit wobbly, Colin, This is staggering. So Pro Football Focus
has their depth chart for defense. Yeah, I just looked

(36:28):
at the projected eleven starters. They have one guy who
was a former first round pick, George carl Loftis. That's
it on the projected starting lineup for the defense. The
secondary is littered with third and fourth round picks who
don't have a lot of experience. Spagnolo, he's going to
have to work miracles.

Speaker 9 (36:44):
With that group.

Speaker 6 (36:45):
And I know nobody knows what's up with Patrick Mahomes
when he's going to return. Are you sure he's going
to be their Week one? I would say hell no.
And then you look at the running back situation, the
tight end. If Kelsey walks, the receiver room continues to underwhelm.
They're not Jeremiah Love away from competing in the AFC West.
And you know you want to go big picture, zoom out, Colin.

(37:08):
We were hot to crown Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 9 (37:10):
After a few Super Bowl trips.

Speaker 6 (37:11):
If he misses the playoffs two years in a row,
we're gonna have to put put that on the shelf.
Patrick Mahomes to go, because we know Tom Brady he
didn't miss two years in a row.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
True Dad.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Finally, Tomorrow's headlines today, which NFL team will have the
best off season.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
There's some candidates, there are some.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
I know you want to crown the Giants, which is fine.
I'm going to go with a team kind of off
the board here. I was early on them last year.
I remember, never wrong, just early. The headline for the
best off season will be it was solid dream Titans.
Read the playbook magazine. I like this Tennessee Titans. I mean,
first of all, Sala and Dable, that's an awesome one

(37:54):
two punch. I think that is phenomenal. I think cam
Ward will definitely be much improved. The problem is they
don't have any dudes on offense. Their skill position of
guys are extremely weak. But they have the cap space.
And then Solo, we know what he can. He can
work magic on defenses. Did it with the Jets.

Speaker 9 (38:09):
Coach them up. They don't have a lot of talent
there either.

Speaker 6 (38:12):
I think between the draft and spending in free agency,
the Titans will be a surprise team in the AFC.
And I know you said the NFC's top heavy, with
maybe the three best teams in the NFC in the league.
AFC's got a lot of mediocrity and somebody's gonna get
knocked down a peg. And I think the Titans sneak
into the playoffs as a wildcard team.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Yeah, no, I'm kind of with you on that. I
think day Ball and Sola work and I think cam
mood was running for his life and there's nobody to
throw too. So that was a bad combination. Good stuff.
So for the record, let's throw it out there. The
Boston Celtics the Eastern Conference. The Knicks are playing well,

(38:51):
but the Eastern Conference, despite the fact that Nicks do
match up with San Antonio well, the Eastern conference is
wide open. The Knicks can struggle defensively again, good operators.
The Pistons have some limitations offensively, they don't score much
from the perimeter. And here come the Boston Celtics. Jason
Tatum is going to play tomorrow against Dallas and from

(39:11):
the volume Jason temp on what he provides.

Speaker 11 (39:15):
It's all fun and games. This has been a very
impressive season for Boston, but they need Jason Tatum. He
unlocks their defensive versatility. Jason Tatum gives you another guy
who can kind of alleviate that burden on Jalen Brown,
and specifically, Jason Tatum is a much better passer, and
it's something that, as we talked about, it'll be a
little clunky at first implementing him into this offense, but

(39:36):
ultimately will make them more versatile on both ends of
the floor and make them a much better team against
the best competition around the league.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
All Right, So that's good news for the Boston Celtics.
So J Mack, this past weekend, we had the combine.
We go into the World Baseball class like the Olympics
are over, March madness around the corner. Free agency starts
next Wednesday. I think it's official, but the deals are
all getting sort of done over the next t couple
of days. So we have a Trent McDuffie deal, Rams
going big, Super Bowl bubble, we have a Buffalo Bills

(40:06):
a lot of criticism going big at wide receiver. I
think the next shoe to drop is Max Crosby.

Speaker 9 (40:13):
Probably.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
Also, don't forget Lakers at the Nuggets tonight. Lakers in
desperate need of a win against a good team. It's
just an amazing time to be a sports fan. So
what's your best guess on Crosby?

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Well, I think moving Dj Moore by the Bears is
a signal. And they're drafting late in the first round,
so the best edge rusher is David Bailey. He's gone.

Speaker 6 (40:36):
Would you give that rue? And then the second round pick?
You just got number sixty for Max? Do you think
that's enough?

Speaker 1 (40:42):
I'd rather go because of Drew Dolmond. I would if
Drew Dolman didn't retire, I'd be okay with it. Yeah,
But I need two seconds and a third. I gotta
If I get Max Crosby, I gotta get a guard.
I need another corner. I need a They have to
upgrade at line they're not very fast. Yeah, I mean

(41:04):
I think Max is you remember you gotta pay Max,
so I two ones is Sauce Gardner went for two ones,
And I think Max Crosby is a much more impactful
player than Sauce Gardener.

Speaker 6 (41:15):
But the ade Sauce is young.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Yes, yeah, but I think you know SA Scott hurt
last year. Crosby's there, He's relentless, he's a culture changer,
I mean, leads the NFL since he entered and tackles
for losses over Miles Garrett. So you know, it's and
the other thing to remember about Max Crosby. The Raiders
usually trail in the second half of late in games,

(41:37):
so Max Crosby, this is not garbage sacks, right, you know,
but Max, A lot of teams are playing the Raiders
those last two to three drives.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
They're running the ball, trying.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
To eat the clock, throwing the ballot dram safe throw.
So Max Crosby, It'd be different if Max Crosby plays
for the Bears, and the Bears with their high powered offense,
lead and Max Crosby is asked to seal and close games,
so you want to see the best potentially at Max Crosby.

Speaker 6 (42:06):
Max Crosby to the Eagles, AJ Brown to the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
What say you, I wouldn't bring in AJ Brown with
Fernando Mendoza. I don't want that.

Speaker 6 (42:16):
I mean Brown, Bowers, Genty and Mendoza.

Speaker 9 (42:19):
All I know.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
You could just bring in his college receiver Omar Cooper
late for draft O.

Speaker 9 (42:25):
You could draft him to bring them all.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
But I think Max Crosby playing for a winning team
that has leads in the fourth quarter and you can
unleash him. He doesn't get that with the Raiders. They
trail late, teams are trying to kill the clock, three
step drops, dump it underneath, so he doesn't get the opportunity.
He'll get massive opportunities with a team like the Bears.

(42:49):
It's just like, say what you want about DJ Moore
and nothing against Caleb Williams. But but Chicago has an
embarrassment of riches running back, tight end wide receiver. Djmore
will be the focal point of the vertical passing game.
So Djmore to Buffalo. That is a twelve target, nine

(43:09):
catch guy and he'll be there. Really their only dependable
deep threat. So I you gotta when the guy gets traded,
how does he fit into the culture and the production
of the team. Max crossed me to a good team leader.
Say Micah Parsons to the Packers, I mean green Bay
scores points they lead late. Mike is very valuable on

(43:31):
a good team. Micah wasn't as valuable on the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (43:34):
Did Dj Moore go, Bryce Young, Caleb Williams, Josh Allen,
Oh my gosh, what.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
A leaf j Max back tomorrow for an hour. I'll
see you Monday.
