Speaker 3 (04:15):
You need on the podcast. But speedy man, you know
I've known you.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
I've been to your house, bowling alley days, you know,
wild parties at your house. Yeah, definitely, that's I think
like that's one of the first times I met you,
like wild party rib. Well, how much was the house?
Like two three million?
Speaker 5 (04:30):
For me?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
That house is three milree long Island right our crazy?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
What else you had in there? You had the pool,
swimm pooling it.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I had the grotto. Grotto is crazy? Got that from
half uh. I had the two lanes in the bowling
Alley movie theater so on a gym that houses that that.
I built that from scratched up you Wow, I built
it from scratch.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
That was a nice one, man. I've never that was
the night of my life.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
You go to fifty crib. You had the firing range. Yeah, club,
But I've never seen nobody with the bowling alley in
the house. Two lanes crazy too many times and it
was like a real bowling alley lane. It wasn't like.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I'm an avenue baller. So when I do something, I'm
gonna do it right right.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I got you.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
It's funny because I had a bowling alley, but I
didn't have I have no hoop. No, you didn't have
no basketball court. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
I gotta get away from it a little bit. When
I'm at home. I want to be home, definitely, I
want to do other things.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
That was definitely a wild party.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Man.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
It was like crazy French bot.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I was actually think about putting the golf simulator in
the crib. I can't find a spot for it.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Wow, NBA money, serious, man, it's nice.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
It's nice.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
It's nice, man, it's nice.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
How was it playing them in Christ the King with Madam?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
I know you want to stay child? That was dope, man?
Speaker 4 (05:53):
What was that like?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Uh? Shout ll sh e b uh.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Back then, we were.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Number two in the tree, you know, you know, thinking
looking back at it, we had three not not just
NBA players on the team, but first round picks, and
that's rare that a high school team have that many
NBA guys on it. So you know who it was, Me,
Lamar and Eric Barkley. So I got drafted by Philly
(06:21):
in the first round. L got drafted by the Clippers lottery,
and Eric got drafted. EB got drafted by Portland in
the first round. So all three of us went first round.
Look at that. That's crazy. That was crazy. At the time,
we didn't know it. We just knew we were all nice.
But then to get drafted in the first round, that's
that was wild. We had one of the best high
(06:42):
school teams ever.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Look at that.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Look at that, Christy King.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
What year was that?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Uh that was ninety six, ninety six?
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Damn, everybody went first round. Bro, that's crazy on Christy King.
So you was a superstar in high school?
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I was what was that?
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Like? I was a superstar.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Those guys they were the superstars because they were McDonald's
all Americans. I kind of, you know, flew under the
radar kind of why I went to Hotshra. I kind
of gave a verbal commitment to the Hotsta like September
of my senior year, and then that's when I blew
up after after my after September, and then a lot
(07:21):
of big schools came after me, Saint John's senor Hall,
Georgia Tech. But I was made in my word and
I gave coach right my word that I was gonna
come to Hostra. So you know, I stuck with it.
Then I'm house. I'm happy with my decision. Definitely.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
It definitely worked out for me.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Coach right, it is a Hall of Fame coach, so
definitely played for a great coach. So I'm happy with
my This is all my all my guys back then,
it's like, Yo, you're gonna wear like why, I'm like,
this is where I'm going. You know, they all going
to these high mages. And at the end of the day,
I had the best career out of everyone.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Look at that. Look at that. That's dope.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Yeah, you a humble guy because I thought you were
one of your rings or something.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
You know that.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
He got his rings shoulders.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
You know what I'm saying. I am flashy like that. Man.
I like to fly under the radar.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Lady with you on, like you know what I'm saying
on the phone.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Nah, I don't like to bring attention to myself like.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
You a humble guy? What makes you so humble like that?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Probably my upbringing.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Man. You know, I come from a big family. I
have six siblings, five sisters, one brother.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Damn five sisters.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, they kept they kept me humble. God, you know,
always tell me I'm not gonna do this I'm not
gonna do that. I'm not good at this, I'm not
good at that. And but that ultimately is what made
me because that pushed me to be great. I love
one peop but telling me that I can't do things
because now I have to prove you wrong. I've been
(09:04):
doing that from a young age, high school, high school,
even before high school.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I remember.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
When I was going into high school, I wanted to
go to Christi King because there was a basketball rich,
traditional high school, and people were like, you can't go
to You're five. Back then, going into high school, I
was five three, one thirty. So you can't go to
Christy King. That's a basketball school.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
You're five.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, I say, now I'm going to Christy King. So
I went to the I went to the basketball camp
and then killed their basketball camp. And that's when they
started recruiting to go to christ the King. So I
got into Christy King. I played freshman basketball, and everybody
knows who knows basketball. If you're like exceptional, you don't
(09:49):
play JV basketball, you go straight up, you go straight
to Voss. As a sophomore, I didn't go. I didn't
go to the VOSS. I played JV basketball. They doubted
me again. I had a great he had a great
sophomore year playing Jami basketball. We wanted to. We won
the city championship. Next year went to varsity. They didn't
play much. I had to compete for playing time with
(10:12):
my with my best friend, every barker. At the time,
they didn't want to start both of us.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
But then midway.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Through our senior year, Chris Kraft, the two guards got hurt,
so then our coach was forced to start both of us,
and that's when the team took off. That's when we
started killing everybody. We had that one and two punts.
We were going nobody, nobody could check us.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I believe that I was.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I was still getting doubted, and then no one was saying.
Everybody was saying I can't play Division one basketball because
I was so small.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I was like, all right, well I got put them wrong.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Then I started getting started getting like you know, mid
major recruitments, the housers, theonas the riders, but houses showing
the most love. And that's why I chose to go there.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
And it was loyal to them.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
You said, I'm moreal to the soil. I feel now
like you.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
You you played for Hostra like they gave you their word,
you gave you kept your word with them, and now
you're coaching.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Well.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
One of the biggest reasons why I chose Hofstra, you know,
I wanted to be the big fish in small pond
because coming up, uh, I was even au. I was
on teams with Lamar and Malik Allen, so I was
never the guy got you, never the guy. I was always,
(11:36):
you know, playing third or fourth. So I wanted to
go somewhere where it was gonna be about me, you know,
selfishly that I wanted. That's why I could have went
the same I could have went to a bunch of schools.
I say, Nah, I wanted to be about me. I
want to be when the team wins, they talking about
(11:58):
speedy Classton. So that's so I went to Hofsta And
when I signed it, it.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Was a big thing. I was like, yeah, this is
what I wanted.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
It was on News twelve, you know, CBS ABC, There's like,
how did she get this kid?
Speaker 1 (12:11):
I was like this that made me.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Smile, got you, Yeah, and then the rest is history. Nah, definitely,
that's dope.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Man.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
How did you keep the balance going into college because
you know, you see a lot of college kids make
mistakes as well as NBA stars make mistakes. How do
you keep the balance between everything like your head and
not getting gassed you on the news?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Now you're young, you're a kids still.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Basically, I'm telling you honestly, it's because of my siblings.
They really kept me humble and really shot all that
down like this, no, that's not who you are, Like, no,
we know who you are, Like, you're not.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Going to the NBA.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
They laughed at sisters, you know, laughed at me when
I told him I was going to Nyby. But I'm
a big manifesto so like, if I say it, I
truly believe it's going to happen. But I even get
my sister, who at the time she was a doctor,
and she had bought a brand name.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
She was a doctor, so the pressure was one.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
She had brought in my midway of my senior year.
She had bought a brand new Ford Explorer and I said, yo,
you know, I mean college. I'm like, I want to
drop that. Like I had a little beat up, coutless supreme.
I said, I said, yo, sis, let me try that.
(13:30):
You drive my car and when I make it to
the NBA, I buy you a new car. I don't
know how. I don't know how people leave me. I
don't know how I beat her, but yo, she let
me rock. I was big money, I was big man
on campus. You didn't tell me anything. You can't tell
me nothing.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Definitely just looked out.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
It's definitely looked out. But I know what I'm saying.
I kept my promise. I bought her Lexus when I
got that's right, and it looked legend first came out.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Remember that.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, I looked out for her.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
I paid it for Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
So fast forward, you get drafted into the NBA, to
the Philadelphia seventy sixes, and.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Who's over there when you get over there? My man,
it's crazy because that was my idol. Look at that
I looked.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I looked up to Aim like that was my favorite
player when I was in college. I'm like, Yo, this
is wild. I'm living I'm not only am I about
to live out my dream. I'm about to get to
play with my favorite player. Got you, so I was.
I was so much looking forward to playing with him
and meeting him like that was. That was dope in itself.
Look at that fire, fire because at that point I
(14:40):
was the face.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
He was a rock.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Because remember he changed the whole dress car I was.
I was that raise every how was that back then?
Remember they had the we have the big white teas
back then, the great.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
They implemented the dress coming man. I was that whack like,
you know, I wasn't dressed like he's into the game
and they got it suited and I'm like, this is
black man. But you know we had to do we
had we had a beta rules. Now, hey, I didn't
do it. He still came to he came, He still
came into the game and sweats. He just took the fine.
(15:14):
I can't afford to take the fine much how much?
Speaker 4 (15:19):
How much.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
It's probably fifteen hundreds game.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
That's not that's life, that's life.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
That's like a stake.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
That's life for him. But for me, that that's what
I like. Taking that fifteen No, I'm not doing it either.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
I'm not doing it every day.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Fifteen hundred, fifteen hundred add up, that's adding up at
the end of the week.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Damn right.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
But I could do it. Remember he had to. He
had the bad boy image, like, so was you.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
There when I stepped over Tymon?
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Loo.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Yeah, I was in the finals. Man, you was there
for that.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
I had the cons see for that, and I had
told about a c L in the preseason game, so
I was I was out that whole year, Okay, but
so yeah, I was on. I was out for a
best season. Look at that was game one. We we
thought we.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
The Lakers ain't lose, uh to that the first look
at lose a game?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
We are rocket were Definitely I was on another he was. Yeah,
he was on another level of cooking. He was killing
cooking everybody's cooking. I was like, oh, this is you know,
this is NBA just.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
The legendary ship we like to heal on the show.
How do you how do you how does an athlete
deal with injury?
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Like?
Speaker 3 (16:39):
How how do you overcome that?
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Like?
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Man, it was tough, especially for me because you know,
it's I was branding new to the league and for
me to tem my a c L in the preseason game,
so it's like I was in the league, but I
wasn't in the league yet. Got you know what I'm saying.
I was there, but I wasn't playing, So it was
it was kind of it was tough stating now, but
(17:02):
and it was a long rehab process take you to
get back, like six months, six months, and I remember
it was around playoff time. I was kind of back,
but then I wanted to play. But LB who was
like Brown at the time, It's like, nah, we're not
gonna rush you back, like just take the take the
(17:22):
full year. I wanted to play got you because I
want to live on my drink.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Of course, of course.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
You know, they kept my best interest at heart, so
set out the whole year. I went to some league
and started opening again. Definitely.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
See Tatum just came back so fast, and I'm like,
that's scary, man.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
He had achilles achilles. Man, I don't listen. I hope
he stays healthy.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Because when he put him off right now, it's kind
of amazing to be back so fast.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Yes, correct, correct, and that could be a career killer.
He tears that again a man, but hopefully listen. Yeah golf,
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a tough one. Got that's
a tough one. He's a great player.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
That was me.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
I probably would not have put my career in jeopardy
like that to come back so fast. KD came back
a little fast too, though, I mean k was a
little different because I don't I don't I don't know
to seek the timing of it.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
How many months KD sat out?
Speaker 4 (18:32):
I think it was, But there's a big difference between
A C L and Achilles, though.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
He told his Achilles also, I don't know the time frame.
But if I, if I was JT, I just want
to say out the whole year, got you, just to
just to make sure, got you, Just to make sure
because he's still relatively young.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Yeah, yeah, I got already. I think as long as
you got one ship, you know you're good. He's straight
because what's the chances you know, you three P two
P like W one is That's what I'm saying, and you.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Got one with saying Antonio, my man, man, it was crazy.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
About talking about that man.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
What year was that?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Three oh three?
Speaker 2 (19:19):
I had some legends on that team, legends, my man
Steve Jackson, you know, you know, growing up and watching
the finals and then actually experiencing it and not just
be honest, not just be on the sideline, but to
be actually on the court and meaningful minutes.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
It was wild. It was wild.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
I watched the finals to this day and get goosebumps,
like this is crazy like I was playing in that definitely. Definitely,
NBA Finals is crazy when when you're in the moment
you really.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Don't think about it.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
It's not until after you finished and you retire, at
least for me, and you look back like this, damn
like yo, I was on the biggest stage and then
my thing deathly is crazy.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
My range man, you I would have you know, I
got my NBA he definitely over here.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
That's what I like about you.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
You've always been humble, even when I went to his house,
like a humble man, humble nice guy.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Bro about the crib like that bowl.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I mean, my prible little meal ticket. I was like
three and four mil tickets, you know what I mean.
So I'm loving that.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
So how it goes from how do you feel going
from player to coach?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Now?
Speaker 3 (20:51):
How was that?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
It was hard? It was a tough transition for me
because the office hours are so long. You're not as
a player, and I used to being in one spot
for that long of a time. I mean, you might
have you're going to practice, you know, two three hours whatever,
(21:14):
but then you're home and you got the rest of
the day to yourself. Whereas when you're coaching it's like
a real nine to five. You're in the office niney
at nine am and you don't leave to like six seven.
So like that was an adjustment for me. I'm like, honestly,
my first year, I was like, I don't know if
I could do this. I don't know if I can
(21:35):
do this, Like I like, I like my personal time, right,
So I was like I don't know about this, but
I stuck it. I was like, all right, well let
me just see. But I was honestly, I don't know.
I was like, I don't know. And in my first
recruiting trip, this was what really blew my mind. So
they sent me to DC to watch a couple of practices.
So I left home like seven am, got to d
(21:59):
C driving, not flying.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, this was.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Joe to d C five hours, went to a couple
of practices, bounced around d C, got back on the
road at like five o'clock in the afternoon to come
back home, got home about ten pm, and then had
to go back into the office the next day. And
I am I'm like I was. I was dumb tired,
(22:30):
dumb tired. I'm like, if this is what it's gonna be,
I don't know. If I could do this, like I am,
I am cooked from doing all that and one day
dropping the DC and back and one day what's what's
the guy ten?
Speaker 1 (22:47):
I was on the road?
Speaker 3 (22:47):
What's your coach on the Spurs?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Name again? The scary scary guy like the military, No
wonder y'all want to he was like the most scariest co.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Was gonna He's going to let you know your role.
He's going to define your role, and he's gonna expect
you to to do your role. And that's why they're
so successful because it's it's very structured. Like you said,
he's military, so it's very structure.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
It was crazy. Wasn't no fist pumps, y'all scoring Just
be like dun score y'all win the game, y'all don't
need to say. Nobody's been celebrated.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Was the best?
Speaker 3 (23:28):
That was the mean coach? How was it?
Speaker 1 (23:29):
He look like I was dope? Man.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
I love playing for Pop. I mean he's a Hall
of Famer.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Man of course.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
And not like how he spoke up for like the
Black Issues too. I love that, like real talk. He
was like one of the.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Bus for real Pop, Steve Kerr. They're going to stand
up for what's right. Definitely, definite stand for what's right
no matter, no matter the issue.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
That's good.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Man.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Definitely give him that.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
He's a scary dude. I've been scared to come to
practice with him. That was just like the Spurs. You
knew they was gonna win because they just was always
just so humble and just like every time they score.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
It was just like especially Tim Duncan.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Man is wow?
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Man growing up because you you're growing up looking at
you know, popa Bitch and all these guys and you know,
rubbing elbows with them like this is crazy. Like I'm
sitting next to Great, I'm getting coach by Greg Papa Bitch,
I'm getting coach by Larry Brown.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
This is mind blowing.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Playing with a.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Guys like Tim is.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
That's Tim's locker right there, Like this is crazy. No, definitely, definitely, man, Definitely.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
It's like your life is a movie. Yeah, But how
was it with Tim Duncan because he looked like a
dude that just go fishing and go home.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
I can't see you didn't see Tim duncan.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
You see?
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Well, you see him with the chain he in the clubs.
I can see you partying with Alam. But Tim Duncan,
what is the day in the life with him?
Speaker 2 (24:57):
So the very first day I got to stand the song.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
We worked out as a team, played pick up and
then they're really big at the team bonding. So Tim
was like, Yo, Spitty, we're gonna go paintballing. You want
to come with us? Yeah? I know at that point
I never been paintballing. So I said, I'm new to
town like this. Yeah, I'm gonna do whatever. I mean.
(25:21):
Tim Duncans asking me to call, so I was like, yeah,
let's call.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Let's do it for sure.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
So we went out there onto the field. So we
we getting suited up, you know, they gave us. We
ran to some guns, and then Tim came through with
some of his boys and they take this ship serious,
Like they came in with their own backpacks, their own guns.
I'm like, they don't know, call it like strapping up.
They got extra ammunition. I'm like, yo what He was like,
(25:49):
whoa yo?
Speaker 5 (25:53):
What they getting ready for Tim Duncan and shoot up.
I ain't even know Tim Duncan. They read up the
teams or whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
So it was like Tim of his boys against everybody else,
me Steve Jackson Elakue rolls.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
I'm like, all right, whatever, yo. It was.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
It was straight out of seeing the holl nights. Like
we was like, man, Tim of his guys they had
like they have machine guns over there.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah, so he set you up.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Man. They have modo.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Crazy seven feet tall.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
That's what I'm saying. He's fucking to the ceilings.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
I never saw him on the field.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
You never seen him.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
I never saw him.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
I was this guy hiding like this is wild. Yeah,
playe one yo. They have walking talkies and everything. I'm like, oh,
they are serious.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
I set you up.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Walking talkies. Y'all got back.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
It was crazy out there.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
So you never know because y'all never like the Spurs,
never showed they personality really on the court. It was
like the military fact. It was like over there, now
we have fun.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
I'm telling you. That was That was That was my
most enjoyable year in the NBA. Look at that most enjoyable. Yeah,
Like we we did so much off the court together,
and honestly it translated to on the club and that's why
we want the championship that ye like, we don't. We
would go to movies as a team. We were bowl
as a team like. We were always over at each
(27:25):
other houses like it was we were tight.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
I know your ladies here, so you gotta be politically correct.
But Alanson, y'all was in the strip club. Come on,
I don't know, I know it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Don't don't pay this no mind.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
Now, I was wild ay before a y right.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Yeah, Philly days are totally different than my San Antonio days.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Like Philly. Oh, we were out.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
In the club heavy a.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Cam, the cam.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
But Timbo he was, you know, serious, he was a
big partyer the rest in piece of my guy came
to love Love Cambai. But I'm talking about this dude
will be in the middle of the dance floor in
the club. He's not. Yeah, he's not. He's not in
the v I p no the he wants to be
in the middle of the dance only the camera.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Yo, your wild Wow?
Speaker 5 (28:37):
You know.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
He just knew that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
You would never even think, like you that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
It's like, I wonder it would have been crazy if
y'all like had Instagram and social media back then.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Honestly, I'm glad we didn't said we wouldn't have got
away with half the ship that we got away with
but I'm glad that social media wasn't around.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
I'm back then. Facts, I'm cooling.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
That because I would never think on that FaceTime and nah, but.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
I would never think. I would never think ranking.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Access, like everybody's one click away now with social media,
one clickaways everything, so everybody's one click away. Definitely, Yeah,
you got you got a girl. They need something short
of damn your girl. You're doing wrong boom for sure.
That's why I don't pay. But just don't do nothing.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Just chill out. Just chill man, happy wife, happy life.
You just chill out. That's what.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Sorry.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
I ain't mean to.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Him about Allan.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Got to be you know, because he was like Tim
Dunkan is going to go paint paint bowler, right, Alanson
is he is a stript.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
I love my felly, That's all I'm gonna say. I
love Philly turned up. That's my in my second home. Definitely.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Do you ever think about writing the book, documentar anything.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
But a couple of people approached me, so you never know.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
It's everything. Everything is on the table.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Yeah, because people places and things like that.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Like, you know, I'm all about that bread, so it's
gonna make bread makes you know some people want to know,
and probably definitely from your perspective, why do most point
guards become coaches Because we see the game as coaches
where the coach on the floor. So it's a natural
transition that we become, hey coaches, got because we're used
(30:36):
to directing and leading. That's why you see a lot
of a lot of point guards being coaches. And that's
why they say big guys can't be coaches.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Because I've never seen one actually.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Coach right correct, Well, Pat tried it, okay and he
was good.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
That was a good coach that George.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
That's what his album minter. But point guards there, they're
natural coaches. So that's why it's an easy transition for
us to become head coaches.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Got you to.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Be to be a point guard, you have to see
the game one step before it's happening.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
And as a coach, you know that bow as well.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Mm hmm yeah, because you've never seen the tall coach,
Like you said, you know the.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Game where the thinkers out there.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Right is the thinkers? Who's some of your favorite new
players like mellow like mellow Son, mellow Son nice.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Yeah, we actually played we actually played against cay How
was that take the win on them.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
We took.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
We took the double. Okay, you melon was right there
because the hell ship, you know, shout out. Mellow Love
definitely showed the legend love definitely by the times, like, Yo,

Watch we beat them every every time we like I
told you, watch, I'm told you we got y'all.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
That's what I got y'all.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
I was saying.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
She was being quiet, looking pretty quite quite.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
You know, should be a man fifty movies man, shout
theok but that's dope, man, you live the crazy life man.
Speaker 1 (32:29):

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Definitely shout out to my pops man, because you know,
he paved the way and he put me in the
position to be where I man today. He drove me
around to all my tournaments and AG games and that
same stuff because it wasn't for him.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Who knows, that's a lot of work driving to practice.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, Like, he definitely sacrificed his
life to have got you. Yeah, he definitely sacrificed his
life and ordered me to have the life that I'm
That's why whatever he needs, he got it.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Got you and your five sisters that was saying you
ain't gonna be shipping.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I still look I still look out for them too, exploring.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Yeah, my man, that was the one sister the rest,
you know, because that motivation sometimes, like you said, yeah,
he when people doubt you is motivation.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
You know what I'm saying, prove I'm wrong.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah, Like when you're going through something with music, a
lot of a lot of the best music comes and
you when you're.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Going through something. Yeah, true, true.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
It's the same thing with him, because you gotta think
you're going to NBA. Everybody's thinking, Yo, a big man,
you know, a big man is gonna make it to
the NBA.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
No, that's that's the other obstacle.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Yeah, that's actually Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
I had overcome the height thing, like not too many
five ten people make it. I had to be special.
Hell yeah, to be special, like yeah yeah right, ten
years you said no, don't my mother.
Speaker 4 (34:01):

(35:21):
back and forth about this Kobe and Lebron thing, And
you played against both.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Rest in peace, Coby, you played against both, So who
would you?
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Who would you?
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Ranking your right?
Speaker 2 (35:32):
So I played against the I played against a young Lebron. Okay,
he was a new buck in the league. Okay, what
year was that, like, oh, four o five when Bron
first came the league. I was with Golden State when
he when he first got that. Okay, But cole Man
(35:52):
cod is different, was different. So I'm going to go
with Cob because like Coach has had the hunger. He
Kobe had that dog in them and that's the one
thing that Lebron lacks. He doesn't have that dog, you know, right,
So for me, a lot of people say, what you mean,
(36:13):
Lebron don't got the you mean?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Because Kobe gonna go for the shot sometimes shot records. No,
Lebron broke a whole bunch of records. He's a legend
in the whole thing. He's in the top five.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
But I'm not going to play him over Kobe. Like Kobe,
he wants that moment, he wants the ball. Bron wants
the ball Lebron and Bron is a great player. Lebron
is going to make the right play, And what's wrong
with that?
Speaker 5 (36:47):
Y'all make it seem like when you say Bron is
going to make the right play, like that's wrong.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
It's not. But sometimes the right player is like, go
get me a buck.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
I see Mike make the play. I see Mike pass.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
I seen Mike pass passing to win the game before
we're all seen as he passed off the curve to
win the game. It's been done. Mike made some passes
to in these moments.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Yeah, but see look see Bron.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
I think he failed in that moment a couple of
times early in his career.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
And it was early in his career. That was early.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
That's why people question when he gives it up God
rather than score it. Whereas you know, Michael Kobe, they
they've had a lot of they came out doing that. Yes, yeah,
most times they they did it then failed, So that's
why they get the pass when they passed it, got you,
Whereas Bron's like, oh no.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
You should have shot it. You don't want to fail.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Got you?
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Okay, you played with all the fucking greats.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Oh yeah, I played it the all time. Yeah, I
played it. I played in a great era. That's what
I'm duncan I played. I cut. I cut the end
of Mike.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
I didn't know. That's what year was that. It's all good.
It's all good.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
That was.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
That was that was even to even be like I'm
on the court with my mi Like what year was that?
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Talk about that with Mike.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Crazy be on the same called with Michael Jordan. I said, Yo,
I A'm on the car. I am sharing I am
sharing the call with Michael Jordans. This man is I
remember we were I was with I was the Sixers.
So we were playing against the Wizards and somehow Mike
got he got switched on me, so he was going
to me. So Mike was like, you ain't gonna take that.
(38:45):
I'm like, oh ship, this is during again. I'm like, yo,
this dude, Michael Jordan knows my man.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
You Michael Jordan's just sending my name. This is walch me.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
I said, did you up the place? I passed it
because I had to take it in. Take it Michael
so fast. Let me go stand over here, let me
let me clean, let me digestic. That's crazy, that's do
it was ey like so like all right, you know,
(39:21):
getting to the NBA is dope. You get to see
a lot of people that you looked up to. But
then Michael was different. Of course, it's levels to everything.
I remember so before the game, priorly to the game,
I was in the hallway or whatever.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
It was noisy. It was noisy.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
I was talking to my boy Olajah who who's on
the same who's on the team also, So the whole
it was noisy, and then all of a sudden, it's
just got dumb quiet, like dangn, what the like everybody
stopped talking at one time, My damn, what the hell happened?
I had my back turn like the like, damn, stop talking.
(40:02):
And the next I turned around, you just saw Michael.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Jordans Michael Jordan power bro way the way ship down.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Did you stop talking to walk down the hallway?
Speaker 4 (40:17):
I'm like, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Look at that, yo, when he walks in the room.
It's different. And like I think Lebron had talked about
it when they when they when they went, I think
it was like the top fifty or seventy five like that,
Yeah you copy copy. He was like, yo, top seventy five,
like it was everybody, Yeah, the best of the best.
(40:42):
Definitely the Legends out of Legends. Yeah, it's different with Michael.
It's different. Michael is different than anyone anyone. Everyone looks
up to Michael.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Everyone got you, Michael the Goat got you.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Yes, Sir Michael Jordan, I mean, you gotta remember that.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
To me, the era, that era of basketball was so
crazy because I don't want to advocate advocate the fighting,
but it was rough back then.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Dudes was fighting that It was like a foul was
really a foul.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Shout out to Draymond Green for keeping it going. Man.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
It was like you think about it era, like I
remember being a kid.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
I was my man. Lived on two two six and
Meric Boulevard, Laurelton and his his next door neighbor, mal
They was related to Anthony Mason.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
You know, I always say all the time, Anthony Mason.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
So look they they they they uncle was Big Bills Adventures.
He was an l DJ mixtape right, So one damn
chilling over there, Anthony Mason pulled up. Never forgot that
nigga was brock.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
He like in the hood. So it was like back then,
y'allould be y'all be in hood.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
He was hood a lot of bull players was in
the hood. They calls like, y'all, it was just to me,
it was like now it seems like everything is a
found How do you feel about that, Like, like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
The game is soft now, man, the game is so soft. Man,
they don't allow you to play defense, and it's all
entertainment now for the fans. So you really don't get
to see like who's really like that got you because
he can't can't put no pressure on him like that.
You can't touch him, You can't touch them. That's why, honestly,
I really don't watch too much regular season NBA basketball.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Wait for the playoffs. Right when they get more, they
let they let them be.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
A little bit more. Yeah, that's when you get to
see who's who. Yeah, right, how you think about Winby?
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Man?
Speaker 2 (42:43):
I listen Wemby. I told when I told people when
when we got your I said, wait two or three years,
when he put on some muscle, gets stronger, I said,
no one is gonna be able to do anything with him.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Seemed like right.
Speaker 5 (43:01):
Now, and he got the attitude like he's want to
be the best, Like what you're talking about, like he
wanted to be the best.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
Give him another two years. The NBA is in trouble.
Got you the.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
Serious trouble, serious trouble.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
He's definitely gonna get a chip Bro, a big man
that can shoot the three.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
Like right now about the n b P talking about
some defense, don't he's like an old school player, Like
he's not trying to be friends out there. Oh yeah,
that's what I mean. He's not trying to be cool,
be cool with They asked him about the n v P.
He feel like he should be the nb He go like,
you see what I'm doing offensively and defensively, What defense
don't count?
Speaker 1 (43:38):
That's what he just said, What defense don't count?
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Like that's why I'm up until this this this year
right here, I don't really watched the watched All Star
Weekend because he came out aggressive All Star with Super.
He came out super.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
I ain't playing with y'all. We're playing. He may step
it up, though he may step it up. Anybody stepped
it up.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
And that's what that's what people they were waiting for
lebron to do that.
Speaker 5 (44:06):
Y'a aint gonna be taking shots at my man, Lebronn.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
And he's like, I know, my man.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Now, that's what people wanted Lebron. I know that the
dude they wanted because like also, like yo, that's the
best of the best. We want to see our hoop
against each other to see who's real. We don't want
to see y'all short and half court three. It's like
we don't want to entertainment. We want to see a game. Well,
real hoopers want to see a game.
Speaker 5 (44:44):
The blame Steph Collory for that three point ship then
it is that, yeah, blame Steph covery.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
But it's part of the game. They can all the game. Yeah, yeah,
the game. I agree, Like, na, we want to see
that competitive Like nah, like you go at each other, Kobe, Like, Noah,
go at Broun. Now go back at Kobe. He's going
on you, No, go back at him. The rocket go
(45:09):
back at him. And that's a story that people tell
like Kobe was ready, He's like, let's go Broun, and
Broun passed it. He did case he was telling a
story on his pod.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
I remember that. I remember that, I remember I remember that.
The moment.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Now turn the moment, like, nah, Broun, you're supposed to
go at Kobe right there, supposed to go at Kobe.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
Yeah, but you think it gets a little political because
there's so much money, like it gets like back in
the days, wasn't Jordan in the slam dunk context.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
That's the other thing, like these cats they kind of
looked down on the slam Dunk contest, whereas the best
of the best they.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Were in the.
Speaker 5 (45:49):
Michael Jordan was in the slim Because you think about
multiple times, not just one real.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Yeah crazy.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Vince called it did a fact. It changed when Braun
didn't do it. I hate when I had Stephen. It
changed when Bron didn't do it. Everybody they were waiting
for Braun to do it. Then you would have had
the job Morans, you would have had the zions like
that was a staple, like oh no, you're athletic, you
(46:27):
have to be in the dunk contest All Star weekend.
And when Braun didn't do it, they changed the whole
dynamic contest.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
Political, man, everything is your political with stuff.
Speaker 5 (46:39):
It was political back there with Mike and because they
still everybody got to protect their brand. I'm curious, like,
why would you think Broun wouldn't do that. Bron probably
didn't want to be political. No no, no, no, no no no.
He didn't. He didn't want to be known as a dunker.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Because when you when you when you go into the
dunk contest, you get that stigma it's just a dunker.
You're not you're not a player. And I think that's
what Brown was like, Nah, I don't want to be
knowing even.
Speaker 5 (47:08):
With other people that came before him from MIT, Yeah
that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
You look like that.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
You gotta think about it. Say it was Anthony Edwards,
Ja Moran and Win, it.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Would be what I'm saying. I watched it, watch it,
but they.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Called him like a players, like had the young white
boy doing all the crazy?
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Yeah, yeah, I want that's the whole that's not who
facts facts. So they kind of took it, kind of
took the joy out of All Star weekend. Yeah, like
you gotta that's All Star weekend. To be at his best,
the stars have to be in the tennis and have
to be in the events.
Speaker 4 (47:50):
Yeah, Jordan did it, Ship, Jordan did it. Everybody should
do it. That's Jordan, Dobe, Dominic wils If them three
did it? Everybody?
Speaker 2 (47:58):
You had Larry burning three point contest. Now Steph does that? Steph?
Speaker 4 (48:06):
What's a slam dunk? Contest. Come on man, Yeah, that's
what I'm saying. Just like three big stars and you're
not crazy. The raidings would be yo, John.
Speaker 1 (48:16):
Morid, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (48:17):
Anthony Edwards when Bianna Yo, they yeah, them three is
in the slam.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
Dunk that they need a bron they need a Jah
and they need a Zion.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
Those three right there, those three entered the slam don
content would have been crazy, would have been in a
good space with.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Correct change.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
Especially when Kobe and come on, Jordan's do it. It's like, damn,
nobody do it. It's like nobody does a slam dunk contest.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Nah, that's what I'm saying. You got you got league
is doing that? Like, who wants to watch that?
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Now? They've done dope definitely but.
Speaker 4 (48:54):
Here to see that because nobody want to do it.
Yeah them, nobody want to do it, know what I'm saying.
That would be epic.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
Yeah, and that's that's what they need to rejuvenate the
dunk contest because it's slowly, slowly dying year after year.
They're probably talking about getting rid of it at this point.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
Yeah, definitely just happened. At the last one. Boy almost
killed himself.
Speaker 3 (49:25):
I didn't even want.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
Almost killed himself with the slip hit, the backboard fail.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Oh, I ain't even.
Speaker 5 (49:36):
Jason richards Jason Richardson was a pure dunker. I think
he actually won him one year.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
He was done. He wanted his son almost his son almost.
He's a bad, bad.
Speaker 4 (49:49):
Man, want to take on so we can know about that.
Like I said, I didn't even watch the slip dunk
contest because.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
Miss I don't watch All Star Weekend.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
Three point contests. I watched because Stephan somebody might be
in there on another.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Good dream.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
Skills challenge.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
You know, we on the Real Reports, we always got
to ask, I guess, what would be your dream team?
Speaker 4 (50:19):
Your dream team? What you want?
Speaker 1 (50:21):
Your top five? Top five.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Kobe Shack. Those are my two guys and Michael. Of
course it's crazy because I was a big Scotty Pippin fan.
I actually liked Scotty Pippen. M J. Yeah, yeah, what guys, people,
(50:45):
Scotty was nice. Scotty, Scotty was player. Scotty was the
person who made that team go. Now, if you're if
you're a hooper, you you you realize that, like Michael
was that nice. But Scotty was the guy. He was
a guy, he was a two way player. He's the
(51:05):
one who made that team go. So I was I'm
a big Scotty Pippen fan. So Scotty Pippens, he's going
to be in my top five. He's gonna be in
my top five. So I got bron Kobe, Scottie Shack
and then Magic. Okay, okay, that's those those are my
(51:26):
legends right there. Okay for sure.
Speaker 4 (51:28):
What a life, man? What a life you live?
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Man?
Speaker 1 (51:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Still living in I've been on a great journey. I've
been blessed. So how is coaching these kids? Man?
Speaker 5 (51:39):
Keeping them focused? With with social media? It's different from
your time? So how how you adapt that ship?
Speaker 1 (51:46):
It's a different day and age.
Speaker 5 (51:47):
Man.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
You know, I just tell these guys to be.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Smart with small social media because once you put it
out there, it's out there.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
And people are going to assume.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Whoever you whatever you portray on social media, that's what
people are going to think who you are, right, So
just be careful of what you or what kind of
content you put out there because that's gonna that's that's
ultimately what people are gonna think, that's who you are.
Speaker 1 (52:23):
Got you.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
Yeah, you've got a lot of knowledge you can give them,
you know, from high school to college to the NBA.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
I mean, these my players, they're lucky because most of
them they want to walk the path that I've already walked.
So during the recruitment process, I always tell my guys like, listen,
I got the blueprint. Like all these kids they want
to make it to the NBA. And obviously all of
them are not going to make it to the NBA.
(52:53):
But if you come in and you put the time in,
you put the work in, it could happen. It could
definitely happen. I'm not going to say it can happen
because I mean, that's what people told you, That's what
people told me. So I'm not going to ever say
that to a kid like listen, you come in here,
you put the work in. With my connections, it can happen.
(53:14):
I know a lot of the scouts, a lot of
the gms, and they all asked me before the season, who,
in my confidence should they be looking at. So of course,
if I have a kid that's worthy of it, I'm
not going to just throw anybody out there. But if
I have a kid that's worthy of it. Definitely put
them in a position she didn't get get known. That's dope.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
Yeah, that was it.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
On the road with them, it's a lot of work
practice on tour, like on the music tours.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
I mean, you know, I'm just saying, you know, bags
bills playing bus.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
We we we definitely try to keep them, you know,
in the hotel and I try to you know, have
them go outside. So we definitely have curfew on the road.
I mean, that's that's the thing that we when I
recruited here, I make sure that they're a good character
(54:12):
because culture and the program is everything you have. You
got to have good culture. Oh you're not gonna win,
and so I try to create a good culture.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
At for sure, the.
Speaker 5 (54:26):
Last time made the tournament, you was playing right, and
it's created they made it this time.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
What coincidence?
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Man got the special touch something? What's going on with
that man? How that feels?
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Because yeah, the last time we went was when I
played and h to to be able to bring house
you're back, you know, to to the national stage as
a head coach was everything.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
Definitely, it was.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
It was definitely the moment because you know a lot
of people associate we do definitely, like we're in the
same breath. You're talking about Speedy talking about talk about
how she talked about So we go hand in hand.
So it was dope that I was able to bring
them back to the promise fire.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
It was.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
It was special for not for myself, it's special for
the program, but it was really special for the community.
Like everywhere I go now if I had like people
love love me.
Speaker 1 (55:35):
We need that speedy statue. We need the statue we're doing.
We got a legend everything.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Statue.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
We don't want to look like the Way the Way
Way statue.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Statues already that's already to work.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
We need definitely. That's all right, man.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
We appreciate you coming today about to enjoy this red
Snapper with your lady.
Speaker 1 (56:09):

Speaker 4 (56:09):

noise and a legend whoa appreciate speedy man today.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
