Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Greetings, welcome, and Happy Wednesday. The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon hobo live from the
Tirack dot Com studios. Tirec dot com helpe you get
there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free rooadhaz protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com the
way tire buying should be. Now, before you get into
(00:51):
the NBA, let me just say this. I hate baseball.
I hate baseball. I didn't think you're welcome, was really
I hate baseball. The attempt a cheeriness fell flat for me.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
No, and especially guys, thought you'd be a better active
by now because I.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Hate you just because you're from Chicago, and the Mets
lose to the Cubs on a final play where they
gets they call it wrong on the field and it
gets stood up by Sea Caucus, and now the Mets
lose on a double play. I'll throw out from left
field and the hell of a throw. That was a
hell of a reel because they hit like seventeen relay
men to throw out Pede a Lonzo tagging up from third.
I hate you just because you're from I hate the Cubs,
(01:26):
doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
That's what makes this difference. You're from that city. I
would pop your head right off right now.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
If I I put my thumb right in your neck
and I pop your head off like it was a pez.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Dispenser, that's pretty cool and I would feel good. You
could pull that off my hands.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Me.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Why why isn't that in more horror film? I have
the blood of arm.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah you think Jason Vorheath would have get to or
Michael suck my thumb right to spy then? Yeah, like
somebody really skinny you know out there, I mean someone
really think like, okay, I could see him doing that
with or maybe two thumbs, maybe two thumbs and it's
two thumbs up.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
And then they stand there like at Cisco and Ebert.
I could see it the second and he smiled and like,
look at this guy. Yeah, like he's got two thumbs.
He just took off this guy's head. Really risky, skinny
with a long neck, so would look it would feel
real like I got my hands around you. The thumbs
in and then the blood comes out and then boom
just does what the thumbs and the head pops off.
Between the Knick's loss and this, it's really a rough
(02:16):
twenty four hours.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
This is this is rough. This is rough, man, this
is rough. This is tough.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I mean, we watched the polar bear kind of bounce
towards the uh if you towards the plate as if
he were in one of the bears at the La Zoo.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
If you get thrown out from left field on a
fly ball and a relay is what throws you out,
you should not have been running. That's that's my one thing,
right that I get it. But it was not a
deeply hit fly ball. McNeil did not do his job
and he gets thrown out on a double play that
ends the bleeping game. But it still looked like he
was safe. Look, he got his hand in before the
tag went down. They go to Sea Caucus and I
(02:48):
say it like like like, I'm like, I'm Joe Peschick
and Goodfellas at Sea Caucus and what I'm doing, I'm
sitting down and doing my nothing, my nothing in Sea
Caucus and they go, hey, uh yeah, it's it's upheld
and it's a game oh not knocking, and he's well
he comes in, and I mean the the hand does
go up, and then it becomes the well did he
(03:10):
is it instantane like simultaneous the hands slapping back down
on the plate versus the glove hitting him?
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Does he get him slightly? Either way?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
It was one or two frames right that you would
have to make the argument to overturn it, and they're
not going to overturn it.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
I can't even speak. I'm so mad. I can't even
find the right word. Stuff. What the hell did you
just say on radio? I know what do you mean
about to say that? Yet? What about the thumbs in
the in the neck? And he said something see something? Wow?
What did I say? I think it was Sea Caucus
or something.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
You can't be saying that yet, No, I do not
only show it was and it.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Was it was.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
It was casino that that that's not not good, folks.
Casino where we say, yes, I'm doing on Sea Caucus,
I mean doing my thinking. Mike silent, Well the sea caucus, yes,
silent l y and then you know the crazy thing
is okay. So it's a double play of fly out
to left ends again. The Mets has won nothing. A
Lonzo gets thrown out of the plate. Carlos Mendoza comes out
to argue, and there's great audio. Yeah you don't get
(04:09):
audio with the manager forgot to cut his mind and
the umpire and you can hear we're gonna bring it
for you at some point because we got to get
it and clean it up a bit because Carlos Mendoza curses.
But you can hear Mendoza explaining what happened on the
play and there was blocking on the play and he
got his hand from his view right, and you hear
the umpires say, I'm not making that call. That's not me,
that's seacaucus. He's saying, I'm not making that call.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
They're telling me whatever a you Yeah, you don't get us,
you don't you don't get that back and forth between
the only time we've ever seen this before? Was the
my asses in the jackpot thing with Harry Collins from
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
But you don't get that, and you see back and forth.
I didn't make the call. It's not my call.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
They told me.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
They told me he was out. He was out, Like, hey,
I have no responsibilities here whatsoever. One of the whole
play umpire that called the play to begin with you made.
I got nothing to do.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
But I mean that's one of those things like, so
what did you exactly see right in in the uh
the pool reporter, that's gonna be the question, what did
you see to actually make the initial out call? Right
catcher behind the plate? So the blocking is not in
effect because that's one of the first things that you're
looking for. Are they just going to rule him safe
because the catcher's set up too early? They said no,
(05:15):
and that was affirm that was not And like the
verbiage that he used was terrible as well.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Blocking is confirmed.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Blocking as if there was no blocking. Wait, what the
blocking call is confirmed?
Speaker 1 (05:24):
There's no blocking, So there's there's a confirm call of
blocking in which there was no blocking.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
There was no blocking. I hate baseball. I hate baseball.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
It's only one of one sixty two though, buddy, it's
a long season now. But then you throw the knicksback
on this, and I gotta I gotta lock on. No,
I mean just because there was a two minute report
that confirmed what I said live as it happened, Right,
but I said it live. Look at me, big referee
over here in my big chair. Look, we'll get to
the Celtics winning in a couple of minutes. We have
(05:54):
to talk about that game at all. There's no other
series going on except the Knicks and the Sixers. We
told you that last night.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
I never know the man Clippers is fun.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
People don't even know this game is on television, so
is it on the bet cast?
Speaker 5 (06:06):
Is actually?
Speaker 1 (06:09):
According to the NBA's two minute report from Game five
of the game last night between the Knicks and the Sixers,
there are many things that could have happened that should
have been called that would have eliminated Tyrese Maxie's heroics.
First of all, the league said the referee missed an
easy travel on Maxie when he traveled for his four
point play with twenty five seconds left to go. Mitchell
(06:30):
Robinson ridiculously foulsand but alive right, he traveled and it
should have been called. So you have that. You also
have the fact that in regulation, when the Knicks went
in for the game winning shot, there should have been
a half second left on the clock from the trying
in bounds play, but they went to overtime. Also, in overtime,
Josh Hart was not out of bounds with forty one
seconds left to go. Tried to say, talked about that
(06:50):
as well. So all of these things should have been
should have been called. All of these things may have
knocked out the heroics of Tyress Maxie, and the Knicks
might have won the game. Here's where I put my
money where my mouth is, right. I don't care. Okay,
I don't care. I'm not gonna sit here and say,
oh see, had the referees called that trout, really, I'm
gonna sit here and say the referee call a travel,
they would have won. Really, had they called the Josh
(07:12):
Hart had the ball and knocked it back in bounds
with forty seconds left, the Knicks would have won. The
Knicks had so many chances to win this game otherwise,
And we didn't even get to last night because it
was so much controversy. The fact that with fifteen seconds
left down too, Jalen Brunson throws the ball out of bounds. Like,
that's why what I focus on. I don't care about
this two minute report. I'm not the Sixers where I
(07:33):
want to go.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
Look, if they just called them foul and Max he
got the ball, we would have won. We don't want
to focused.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Anything else that we did wrong in it would call
the Sixers wanted to moan and complain about that and say, oh,
if you throw that one whistle, all look at this,
and now we can't get people coming to our games.
And the New York fans are here and they're buying
all the tickets. Yeah, okay, you focus on that, right.
I see this two minute report. It's too bad. It's
too bad they didn't call these plays. But I don't
back to say, oh, man, that ball was inbounds. Josh
(08:03):
Hart really, had that ball was in bounds, the Knicks
would have won. Oh, Tyrese MAXI really traveled on that
and they should have called it. When are they gonna
call traveling? I mean, seriously, I'm not looking at any
of these and saying, oh, the referees took it away
from us. Right, I'm out there saying the Knicks blew it.
They got to get back out tomorrow and win. And
I'm ready for the game right now. I don't want
to wait twenty four hours is bleeping game again. I
(08:23):
want him to be out there right now. But I'm
not gonna sit back and say, oh, it's the referees faull.
And it's embarrassing for me that the Sixers are still
in this series when all they want to do is
wind and complain about things happening to them, and here
they are three to two and they could probably want
it winning tomorrow night, they'll probably win Game seven. I'm
a calling sick call week next week, like it's not
enough that I got to sit here watch them complain
(08:44):
about things and lose mental focus. But I'm looking at
the Knicks, going, how did they blow this? That's all
he did was keep when this two minute report came out.
I'm just reliving this.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
I'm reliving again the final thirty seconds of regulation and overtime.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
When they had plays and they couldn't make them and
they couldn't win the game. That's what I look at. Sorry,
that's me. So when I say all the fouls and
fouls and fowls. No, No, that's not what That's not
what I'm saying. I'm not gonna sit here and complain
and go, yeah it got taken from us. I'll let
the Sixers fans do that.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Oh look at me.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
I'm better than the Sixers fans. Look at me. He
said that I did get me. I'm Sixers Jason Smith.
Greater than seventy six ers. That's what it should be,
you know, not even equal to her, Greater than just
straight greater than I mean, yes, you just you just
complained and got sick. I complained about the Nix, and
you complained about the Knicks, and you got really sad
(09:33):
and despondent. And when we did a four hour we
played arapy session had a lot of sad music last night. No, no,
I mean between Broadway Night and last night. I mean
really run the gamut and really expanded the musical horizons
of the show. I told my daughters that we had
Broadway Night the other night. They were very excited, but
they were would you play? We played Masquerade, I was explaining,
played from Phantom. Well, my brother who's going with us
(09:57):
to the Dublin part of the European vacationter on as
the summer gets started.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
He goes, hey, did you figure out what you're doing
for London?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
And Mattie goes, well, the ABA thing and then Phantom
and I go well, you know we use Phantom on
the show.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
She goes, yeah, that was really.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Cool, and my brother goes, it doesn't sound like you're
really excited to go see.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Fans because all right, so there you have.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
So, yeah, you got really sad trying to fund tickets
and trying to sell those tickets. No, they're actually pretty
good seats and there's really no obstruction.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
You want to go see Phantom in London.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Hey, hey, man, I got to the night before to
get a refund. My mind is only like ten bucks
a ticket. I'll have the insurance pal, I'll take the
money and quid if this how do you how do
you know it's a euro?
Speaker 5 (10:40):
They say quid? What do they use? They just wanted
to say qui qui.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
But yeah, so psychologically it was a very difficult night
for you. I thought we got you through, we got
it milked, and like you got to talk it out
with him a.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
Little bit because he was there.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yeah, No, psychologically he was there with like He talked
about walking his dog in the rain and having all
of the issues and cycling through that he did, and
I thought we we got you pasted it now, and
then this Mets thing just brought it all back. No, no,
but it just brought all those It's like, you know,
you're having your acid reflux at this point. All the
(11:14):
bad taste from last night here is back up in
your throat.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Here's how I get even with the Mets. I say,
all right, the next week, I'm not buying any Mets gear.
That's how I'm getting you.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Are you gonna get one of those batting helmets though?
I mean those are like them and the Yankees. They
did it right, those cool little City Connected.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Let me just say this, the City Connect helmet and
hats that the Mets have are awesome. The good the
jerseys they used tonight are terrible. The jerseys look like
if they had a baseball scene in Batman and they
shot a scene at Cityfield they needed a baseball team,
that would be the uniforms they'd be wearing in that
scene in Batman.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I'm gonna pull up the scene where the joker is
on the mound where they're playing baseball and then he
has the spring loaded pitching rubber and gets out out
of prison. So I gotta see how much those match up.
Maybe they were classic Batman's here if this season Romero Freedom.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
You know, Batman Dark Knight Rises Again or Batman Gotham,
right whatever, and there's a scene something like happened at
City Field, like that would be the uniforms the team
would be wearing.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
I mean we did that, U. I mean that that's
the uniforms right there. We had it in Sharknado two.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
But looks, I do want to say this because you
asked me about it. He said, you think we got
through it? You love Joe bed I feel no, Come on,
what you were going to say? All he does is
every day show. It's what a dirty player he is. No,
I really am am no better today than I was yesterday.
I really am not. Because I figured, okay, today it's
a day off. It's cool, I can decompress before the
Knicks play tomorrow night, and everything all right, great, But no,
I felt no better today because of course everyone I
(12:44):
saw the replays and I got mad again, and I'm like,
you know what, because this is this is probably and
this is I mean this shows that I'm still alive
and Knicks fans still alive.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
We're not dead.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Is that this is the worst Knicks loss in twenty
five years, like going back to the finals against the
sper like, this is like the loss that keeps you
up at night going how do we not close this out?
And to show you the lack of success and Knicks
have had. We're talking about a game in the first
round of the playoffs, but this is probably the most
frustrating worst loss of the last twenty five years. The
(13:13):
Knicks have had tonight, which shows, hey, we're back. So
it's kind of good. Hey we're back in people care.
But still it's one of the worst. It's the worst
loss I had in twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Well, I mean, you did get your consolation McDonald's soda,
which meant there it was at least what did McDonald
went with it?
Speaker 1 (13:29):
I did get McDonald's, like, because you know, I'm driving
in and I'm sitting here going, okay, well, tomorrow night's
game six. We'll order pizza. I'll get pizza for everybody
tomorrow night because it's good pizza night. Maybe we'll do
it tonight. And then the Mets went out in the
eighth inning. Uh And they had second and third with
two outs with one out and they couldn't get a
run across, and I said, screw it, I gotta go
to McDonald's. I'm sorry, Well, we'll do pizza tomorrow night,
(13:49):
but I need McDonald's right now.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
So the year left field half is there makes the
catch the world of the plate tag.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
Oh oh boy, thanks for that.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Oh boy, it's no better than I got the Harry
Carey ad that I love so much fed to me
this morning to start May.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Wait, was that a double play? Frostburg?
Speaker 3 (14:16):
First of all, welcome back after all your your days away. Secondly,
and I was building pyramids? I think that's Alex there.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
When do you go when? When do you go back
on vacation? When do you go back off that? After
my exit interview?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Oh okay, very good, make sure you tell me what you
think about darvin Ham. Sure you want to know what
I think about darvin Ham Thoroughbred Raising as a new
independent regulator HAISA, that's implementing comprehensive reforms, and the sport
is combining hands on care with cutting edge technology to
help keep its athletes safe.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
To learn more, visit Safety runs first dot com. That
safety runs first dot Com. Well, we'll have more NBA
on the way. Yes, what is next for the Lakers?
What's next for Colorado football? But straight ahead because of
the frustration with the Knicks, because you know what, it's
time to manifest something great to come back in sports
that we all really need. We'll have that coming up
(15:07):
next right here. Manifest it with us Jason Smith Mike
harmon Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (15:16):

tag the plate.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Oh boy, oh.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Boy, at least on that with the song competing with
the call that I had no desire to hear, I
didn't really hear either of them. It's like they cancel
each other out. I didn't really hear either of either things.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
So that's okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (17:06):

I'll come in and write it on your hand. You
get better try Yeah, hey, absolutely have them contact me
as a reference. I will say glowing things about you.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
You're the best. Yeah, all's gonna work.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Now, looking at where we sit in the NBA playoffs
to night, we already watched the Boston Celtics close out
the Heat one eighteen eighty four Mavericks and the Clippers
big game five two point lead for the Mavericks right now,
about five minutes ago in the first quarter, Lucas said
before the game, still not one hundred percent, but I'm
gonna give it a go. Hey, it's the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
So this is where we sit right now, and before
we get into a big story that I really want
to manifest something positive, there is is no series, right Obviously,
the Knicks and the Sixers is every series no one
even cares about half the other ones. But this series
is You look at these are two teams where the
losing team is just gonna get jumped up and down
(18:19):
on right.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
If the Clippers lose this series, it's it's how many
more years can you go through almost being there with
Kawhi and Paul George and Kawhi is hurt and not playing.
And if you're the Mavericks, it's how come we're not
any better? Year six of Luca, Like, how come we're
still a team losing in the first round of the playoffs.
He made it to the to the conference finals once.
That's great, but you're not getting better. You're kind of
(18:41):
up and down. You're not a threat every year. So
there's there's no two teams that have more at stake
as far as their future than these two teams right here.
At least look with the Knicks and the Sixers. If
the Knicks lose, all right, well, you know what, load
up more for next year. We're still great, young nucleus,
everything else. The Sixers, A let's get more help for
mbid Maxi is really good. We found we found him.
He's another star. But there's these two teams that's like,
(19:03):
what do we do?
Speaker 5 (19:03):
Man? What do we do? Yeah, when you.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Look at the Clippers, the other thing you have to
decide is, even if you get out of this series,
you've played better basketball and moved the ball around more
when Kawhi is not on the court. So you've got
the ultimate and conundrums like, oh, he's a really good player. However,
we could see how the offense can stall at times,
so got him. The confusing thing with the Mavericks did
(19:27):
a good job bringing in Washington and Gafford as compliments.
And obviously Kyrie Irvings had a fantastic year and people
were making the Luca MVP argument off of the well, look,
he was able to control Kyrie.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
How about Kyrie grew up for the year.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Doesn't mean that you're going to get the same result
next year, but for this year, he just decided to
play basketball, and all the past nonsense and injury issues
and everything melted away at least to this point in
these here playoffs. But to your point, yes, with the
rest of the Western Conference save the Lakers, seemingly on
the come, it becomes a very difficult spot to be in.
(20:05):
Are you actually gaining any ground?
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Well, like, what do you need to do? Like how much?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
How much do you need to be able to say,
all right, we have to have the confidence to blow
up what we're doing and sort of reload on the fly,
like we brought in Harden. We did all these things,
and Kawhi still can't stay healthy and all right, we
finally get Luca the number two and Kyrie and he's
played all year and still here we are out in
the first round. Like this is this is some rubber
meets the road stuff. Had life decisions that gotta get
(20:33):
made here, man. This is not some idle Tuesday where
the biggest thing is, hey do we have pizza or
chicken for dinner tonight? This is like, hey man, what
are the next four years? Is like a night we
decide we're going.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
To college in the house. What what's the next four
years gonna hold for us? That isn't big kind of decision. Shit,
get her pizza, gotta dig that chi her pizza. But
you've been watching Dairy Girls, because that was an episode Just.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
How funny was there? So good? Derry?
Speaker 3 (20:58):
I mean every time, I just real quick, if he's
seen Dary Girls, just every time James says something and
all they do is say, James.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
Shut the blake up, Jay, You shut that. He can't
even say a word. You're yelling at him to shut up. James.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
I want this off with the Grandpa. Just give me
a whole series around him. Dairy Girls was it ends
a little weird? I will say it ends a little weird,
but it is hilarious all the way through. I mean,
one of the best comedies I've seen the last five years.
Girls is so funny. But you should see the end
of that Mets game. Oh you see the end of
the Lakers season.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
How about that. Let's let's let's look at that again.
We're back next year. Is Darvin Ham back? Darmin Ham back?
He's back.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
There's been a lot of talk about what is now
next for the NBA because rights are coming up, and
we've heard reports in the last few days, a big
article on it in the New York Post today about how.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Hey TNT could lose the NBA. NBC is looking to
bid tons of money to.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Potentially get the NBA back, and they want to get back,
and I'm sure they'll have a bunch of games on
Peacock and everything else, but they really want it back.
And we joked about this when this story first came
out the other night, and we said, well, I want
it for one reason specifically, And now it's like mushroomed
into we have to get the NBA back on NBC
so we can hear this. I mean, it has nothing
(22:24):
like round Ball Rock. One of Sadeika's finest moments on
the line.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
That usually is it. It's a Pavlovian response.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
John Tesh actually composed this, owns the rights to it,
and I think they He actually reached out and said, yes,
I would license this back to the NBA on NBC
if they got.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
It currently used in Fox College Basket, but you know
they licensed it out.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
But it's just, I mean, I'm not for everything where hey,
everything was so much better in the old days, but
just I mean for but look at what the last
dance brought back for people a few years ago, looks
the nineties and Michael Jordan, when you hear round Ball Rock,
it just and I want to bring Round Ball Rock
back because I think this might bring Marv Albert back
Marv Albert and Maddy Gucas says, I can't hear that
(23:13):
song without thinking of Marv Albert playing again. Tysher like
you can't like you hear the open and then I just.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Expect to hear and welcome inside Game three here at
the United Center, first round, the Bulls taking on the Knicks,
the Surrey side at one apiece. Marv Albert, Matt Gucus
on the call a sensational crowd here today for Game three.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Jason, you ready nineteen ninety three Game five Knicks Bulls
from three.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
Five on Jordan taking the Thicks worst fite bear. I
don't even care about that.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
I mean they got to hear ma here round bow
and I just I just yet even even saying something
like and here we are welcome Game one of the
Eastern Conference quarterfinals, the Bulls hosting the Charlotte Hornets and
Muggsy books. Let's go to downstairs to find out the
latest on this one.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
We'll obey, what do you have?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
I mean like, yeah, will obey and Nicelyn can't hear
that song and not expect to hear Marv Albert's voice?
Speaker 5 (24:32):
You're talking about this three NBA Playoffs to night Game five.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Chicago Bulls and
the New York nick.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
It just brings you back to the headline, the treasure
turning out another capasciitate crown.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
The the statue of Scottie Pippen has been erected. But
will they tear it down after his migraine and the
miss and the loss to the next As we are
here in the conference final.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
But one thing about that open.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
You knew when that hit, whether you were on the
West Coast or East Coast, you knew you were in
for some real basket.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
It was game time, and it was and whoever was
playing was a big deal. But that's the point, is
that that's what you had. You have all of this
other stuff, right, and it was that game.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Unlike the West Coast you were getting Lakers Suns or SuperSonics.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, bulls and somebody Lakers Knicks
bodies or Bulls and heat Nixon heat, or you were
getting the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers
and Tim Duncan coming at you right now. Well, but
it's it's really hasn't changed a ton in terms of
national broadcasts. And so now it maybe expanded to twelve teams,
and we certainly see an inordinate number of games featuring
(25:51):
your Portland Trail blas. They're like there were national games
that were appointment view.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
It was always a big deal. Like you could play it. Now,
it's still not going to make Magic Cavaliers happened. I'm sorry,
I'm sorry, Gretchen Wieners. You could play it, but.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Just the like, what would you be What would it
feel like to hear that going into the Nick Sixers,
right would it feel like to hear or the Lakers
and the Nuggets.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Especially playing it.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
I mean I'm spinning around like he's live at Red
Rocks once again.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
I mean I get the whole.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Oh, this is something from the nineties, and millennials don't
know what it is, Isa, but there's just something. Sometimes
there are certain bits of music or or a memory
or a television show that just instantly transport you to
a time that was exciting and it can still be
exciting again. And this is one of those things.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Like you hear round Ball Rock and you know, I'm
not tuning in to see some kind of slap jack.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
Dead, you know, the playoff game. I'm not gonnacho to say.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Oh, and here we are the Orlando Magic and the
Cleveland Cavaliers. Here's Donovan Mitchell who is really gonna get traded?
And Powell Buoncaro. No one knows even what he looks like,
even the average NBA fan.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
Is this one where they get the rights? Back?
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Round Ball Rock is on the A game, but Tesh
is now contracted to come up with something for the
lesser game.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
No no, no, you can't. You gotta use something.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
No no, but you got to use something for when it
is on the BET cast or your TV.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Will just have the Bulls openady.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Yeah, Alan Parson's project, I could do, yeh, doctor, that
would mean we were actually in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
Beyond the play in.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
I'm going to use a philosophy of doctor Gregory Allen,
the doctor John Parsons.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
I'll call it the Alan Parsons Project. Uh.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
That is part four that is coming too. So everything
old is new is surprise.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Yeah, oh boy, I got to be exciting. I missed
that layup Smith? You really miss that? Alliot? What did
I miss?
Speaker 4 (27:38):
You're supposed to tell Mike right there? Well, that's how
you know the game is going to suck. They're playing
the Bulls music.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
The Jason Smith, the Mike Harmon Live, the tirec dot
com stude is You're right, I missed that.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
I'm still upset about the mix. I'm not on my game.
I don't feel like I'm on my game. I feel
like we're going to miss tomorrow. I'm off my I
can see the Knicks losing by thirty.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
But you're gonna have pizza. No, but I will I
will feel good.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
We're eating pizza and I hear round Ball Rock throughout
the show tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
There's no guarantee of that. I mean, Tyshit's already been
kind and played it for He's probably just deleting it.
He's gonna be he may he may have just said
it's done.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
You know.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
And I'm gonna want to hear it. I'm gonna want
to hear something great. I'm gonna want to hear and
welcome inside.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Game six, the Portland Trailblazers from Rip City take on
the Los Angeles Lakers with the birth in the NBA
Finals on the line. Alongside me the tzar of the Telestrader,
Mike Frittello, What about Snapper? If we had, oh, Steve
Snapper Jones on the play by play, like if we can,
if we could come, may.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
Have hung out with me in other venues. Ooh, Marv,
how are you?
Speaker 3 (28:41):
I've missed this song so much. I've not watched an
NBA game in twenty five years. Who are some of
these players there talking? They bring the double team? Who
is is Lebron Jay? Is Lebron James? Some young guy
that just came into the league. They talk a lot
about him, an awful lot, because I normally do games
on PAC twelve late at night, and there's no more
(29:02):
conference anymore. I don't even know if some of the
games are really broadcast. I think maybe it's just closed
circuit in my house. I think he would talk for
an hour and a half about the sphere and seeing
Dead and Company at the Sphere and then going.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
To see Fish at the Sphere.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I think that's all that Bill Walton would have to
add to the game right now.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Any sensational comment by Bill Walton coming up next? We'll
have basketball next here. Let's get rid of Bill and
bring in Steve Snapper Jones. I mean, it's spronball, right,
Snapper Jones.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
It.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
It's just one of those things where not every song
transports you back to a time. Not every song does it,
but certain things like that, I mean, you just knew,
you like when you hear when you see a football game,
you think about Pat summer All and John Madden. You
knew you were on a great game, and you know
you're gonna get a great call, right. You knew when
Chick Kurn was calling the Laker games, Vin Scully calling
the Dodger games. When when I watch the match and
(29:57):
I get to see him nights, I don't work. When
I get to hear you know the booth, you know
the Metsure, which is the best booth in baseball. I
know I'm gonna get a great game.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
It's it takes you back and you know when they
play that NBN NBC, they could make almost anything look good. Again,
probably couldn't make the Magic and the Cavs happen, but
almost anything else they could make happen.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
With round ball rock.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
I like that this story pops today, right, it's mate first,
and to be serious for me, like we talked about
you know you and checking in on you and coming
off the knicks and now this Mets thing whatever it
is the beginning of National Mental Health Awareness Month, right of.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Hey, just check in on your people.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
But music like that, stories like that that bring you
to a time and a place and a positivity. Whether
it's music for me, it's that, it's cooking, it's live events,
it's sitting here yelling at you and mocking your squads
as you do so to me, whatever else, but yeah,
happier times the league and the grand grand nature of
(30:52):
those games and just doing bad Marv Marv Albert impression.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
People won't take it to a better But the Hornets
were actually good when that open was used. They sure
got telling you man, they were good. The Men of
tal are for real. They lead the next by six
time out with seven to go in the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
J I Reid, Kennygill running around, Yick and the Morning
Sure on, yeah, now, but this is like, this is
like the fourth team. There's been like four teams in
and out of Charlotte since that. You're going to get
the way back to.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
The mid to the mid nineties, bringing it all the
way back.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
Coming up next, do we have a big NFL story
coming your way?
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Guess what team is ready to embrace a quarterback derby
this summer.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
It's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. Tell me TJ, how does it feel? How
does it feel?
Speaker 5 (32:01):
DJ?
Speaker 3 (32:03):
NBA right now six and a half to go, six
and a half to go before halftime, and the Mavericks
thanks to a big first half by Markoguire, leave the
Clippers and Tom Tolbert forty one thirty five. You know
Cope isn't here very often, so you don't really need
to kiss his ass by staying in.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
The Marv Albert voice and Marv Albert, it's one of
my best impressions.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
I've been doing it.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
He told you that old No, it's always been good.
I remember doing it doing my Marv Alvet impression on
NFL Network when I was hosting Fantasy Live, because we
did a segment called with Authority and it was like
Burger King's things with a three. I said, well, I'm
gonna do my Marv Albert.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
Is it good? And I said yes, with Authority? Oh,
you had to do it too.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
It and I did it, and we had Plaxico Bursts
on the set with us, and we're doing a whole
thing with it, like who is your pick this week
for Fantasy?
Speaker 5 (32:52):
Who do you like? With authority? And so it was
so I was going and then Plaxi.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
With Authority, Chris, I've one hundred and twenty yards and
a touchdown this week pleas Togo burst how about you
with a spectacular update and he goes my pick with authority,
tries to up like you.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
It was awesome.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Okay, I mean he couldn't out more of me, but
you know it worked.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
It's a good bit.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
But speaking of the NFL, we'll have more NBA coming
up in a bit. Yes, Dallas leads the Clippers forty
one to thirty seven. James Harden five three and six
so far for the Clippers.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Jacoby Brissett said today he is very excited to battle
Drake May for the quarterback job with the Patriots. Right
one of the big, one of the big quarterbacks taken. Obviously,
there's gonna be a lot of talk. We're just gonna
like kind of repeat, rinse release hey from this quarterback,
this quarterback, this quarterback. Let me just tell you this,
if you want Drake May to fail, you'll put him
(33:49):
in a quarterback derby. Okay, quarterback derbys with a first
round pick or a guy that needs to see the
field are stupid, they are. And if Drod May and
I'm giving advice to a team that I've watch beat
me for twenty years, so you know, you know, I
think this is the truth. Quarterback Derby's for a rookie
quarterback in the first round can end so horribly, right,
because if you put a guy up there, you could say, okay, well, hey,
(34:12):
we're gonna have you battle a veteran for the job.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Okay, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
But if he doesn't win the job, that's awful, because
then it's what's wrong with him. He couldn't beat out
the veteran. Is it because he's not ready? Is it
because he needs more seasoning? Just because he's not good?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
And now there's whispers around him, and now there's a
lack of confidence he has that I couldn't beat out
a guy who's been a backup for a long time. Right,
Either you take your first round quarterback and you say
here's the keys, the job is yours. If he's ready,
he takes it, or you say, you know what you're
gonna sit, You're gonna wear, gonna go through summer camp
and you are the number two quarterback and Brissette's gonna
take the lion's share of the snaps, and we're gonna
(34:50):
see how things go.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
And if you.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Show you're great, okay, hey, great, well what we have
decision to make here, But generally that's what goes to work.
You get a guy that comes into the NFL as
a first round pick, very bad. You tell Nay, you're
not gonna start. We got a guy ahead of you
right now, and you can develop at your own pace.
There's two ways to do it, right. You either give
him the job, you had him the keys, and say
you're a guy. Look the bear's gonna do with Caleb
Williams because I have no choice. Hey Caleb, you're the guy,
(35:12):
or you say you're the backup right now, and then
when he's ready, you annoint him. But to put him
in a derby, all it can do is end badly.
Because if it ends how you hope it will end
with him winning the job, well okay, that's great, but
it may not end that way. And then you're stuck
and you're stuck answering questions and you don't know how
it's gonna go. And now suddenly, well the guy's ready.
Speaker 7 (35:33):
Now.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
He wasn't ready in the summer, but he's ready now.
Week three, Week four, it's nothing but headaches. The worst
thing you can do for a first round pick is
put him in.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
A quarterback there.
Speaker 7 (35:40):
No.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
I mean you get into the questions of whether it's
a rig game when we start talking about true competitions. Man,
how many times have we seen it really play out
that way? I mean, go back to Flynn showing up
in Seattle and then Russell Wilson comes in and wins
the job. Out right, all Flynn was the guy that
was the giant expenditure kind of like you know, a
(36:03):
very distant cousin to what you're seeing in Atlanta this year.
But when we look at what New England does, like
if Drake May doesn't win the job and then shrinks away,
well then you learn a lot about Drake May and
you know you were wrong right if he shrinks away,
like I always say, if the guy has to get
bench because he's not getting it or get set down
(36:24):
and you lose him, well you've never really had him
because the confidence.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Was always a bit shaky to that point.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
If that's going to alter them long term, then you
found out a lot about that guy and his character
and what he's bringing to the table. Doesn't mean he
can't go succeed somewhere else, but for you didn't meet
what you were trying to set up, and you got
a new coaching staff, So what are they gonna do.
They're gonna preach competition, and that's the question. Is it
more lip service than reality?
Speaker 5 (36:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
But if I'm Jacoby Pressett, I'm doing everything I can.
I get one more shot.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
But you don't even want to give the percent because
what if something doesn't go the way you expect? Remember,
you have to account and this is what so many
people and my wife is a huge person who subscribes.
It doesn't count for the unforeseen. You got to account
for unforeseen developments. You could say this is a rig derby.
We expect Drake may to win it, but what if
he doesn't. The team knows who's playing well and who's not.
(37:19):
Suddenly you're gonna put a guy out there that's not ready,
and then suddenly the coach loses the team.
Speaker 5 (37:25):
Because if he does get all the first reps and
he can't play, so.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
You're but now you just say, okay, you know what,
you're the backup and when you're ready you will assend.
But Jacoby Brissett's our guy and you can convince and
everything works fine from that point out.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
The players get it. Coaches get it, quarterbacks get it.
But you put him in a derby, so many bad
things can go wrong. Remember, it's not all about the quarterback.
Isn't that what coach said? Now, what he said before
they took a quarterback with the third pick.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
I think that's what Jim Harbaugh is saying.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Anyway, coming up next, boy, do we have a big
story out of college football coming your way.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
This is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
And it bounces right into the front of the net
where the net is empty, and the Kings and tie
the game.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
That's about it.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
That's as big a gift as you're gonna see that.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
I've seen that a couple of times in my life,
where where the puck is cleared around the boards and
it just hits an edge and instead of going all
the way around, it goes to the front of the
net and there's somebody there. I mean, like, I mean,
I've seen that like like three or four times in
my whole life. And and and there it is, and
it just happened right there again.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Coe Patar We saw it in the season finale, right
six seconds of glory to end the regular season agation
goal right where it checked a little bounce off of
the the side sideboard and straight on do us skater
where we sit right now, two minutes ago beforeand I
gotta stop doing Marv Albert because my voice it's not
(38:46):
gonna make it. Your voice is already struggling. You haven't
even done any of it. No, a spectacular decision by
Mike Harmon right now.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Only other game, only NBA game going on right now.
We have the Celtics beat the Heat earlier. Tonight, Mavericks
lead the Clippers fifty two to forty four two minutes
before halftime. Look, this is one of those nights where
somebody's gonna come out of this really feeling bad, and
it's either gonna be doom and gloom for the Clippers
and the direction of their franchise, or doom and gloom
for the Mavericks and the direction of their franchise. Not
(39:18):
all playoff losses are created equally, but to two, whoever wins,
goes up three to two. Obviously, Clippers at home again
fifty two to forty four, though Mavericks with the lead
buck forty five to go before halftime, the.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Big Man Zubatch coming up big for them early on
thirteen points in this first half and active at the rim.
So big challenge for the Mavericks. Luka Doncic with the
illness fifteen points early going, Oh, Zubos with a big
first half here like in the nineties when Zuba's pants
we're very big, nicely, that's a good reference. Jason Smith
(39:54):
really dug deep for that one. Roague Warriors are run
around with those. If you go back there was a
pro set you could still buy bus pants on Amazon.
You can. Yeah, like I could get like a pair
of jets Zubaz pants. If I really doing that, I
think my kids would disown You.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Just wear by yourself where when you're at home, running
around your house, listening to music, dancing around your living room,
that's anywhere you.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
Se That's what I'm doing, dancing through life. Big story
out of college football.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Look, this has been incredibly interesting to follow the last
few days.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
And this has been the back and forth that's going
on with Colorado head coach Deon Sanders, his sun Shador Sanders,
and the players who have been leaving the portal for
Colorado coming in. And now we have Deon Sanders and
his son both going back at a player who transferred
out of and hit the portal, leaving Colorado going on
(40:51):
playing FCS.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Was had a pretty good year in FCS. But we've
seen Dion and Colorado take a lot of attention the
last few days about how they run things there, and
it's nothing that you're surprised about.
Speaker 5 (41:04):
You're hearing some former players say, Oh, they didn't really
care about me.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
He never bothered to learn my name, you know, didn't
give me a chance. I didn't feel like I was
part of the program. And Deon Sanders and Choudur Sanders
have responded on social media and they're kind of wearing
this as a badge. Going back at this kid who
was transferred out both Dion and Shaudor. Chadur says, I
don't remember this guy. He must have been mid Someone
posted video of him getting beat in practice with Colorado
(41:29):
as and a lot of people liked it. And then
one of his new teammates posted video of his teammate
that put video up of him beating him in practice
with Colorado saying, hey, you only had like thirty five
plays last year or something crazy like that. So it's
this huge back and forth going on that Dion and
Shaudor Sanders are involved in and I'm telling you. First
(41:50):
thing I'm going to tell you is this is that
I'm going to double down on what I said a
week and a half ago about this. Deon Sanders and
Colorado have to show less style and more stability because
right now the image from outside of the program. And
it's a big deal, because Dion needs to see what
the image of the program is from outside. Because do
you think there's anybody in the Colorado program that tells
(42:12):
mean something different?
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Nobody's gonna do. There's anybody that disagrees with him or
does every day. The twenty people that he knows, they
all say, yeah, whatever you want, you do whatever you want,
say whatever you want. Deon doing great power. It's like saying,
you know, it's karma that you get hurt for staying
with and being loyal to a team. It's like being
you know, all of these circumstances that we we yes men,
(42:37):
that's all you have. Like entertainers, the Lebron James world,
you know, go on down the line.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
Who tells him? No, Nobody Nobody.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
Tells Dan I know because the guy does stuff that
he shouldn't do, gets on social media and and looks
down on a kid, right, because someone posted this kid's
stats and Dion just wrote, oh good lord, Like, why
is why are you as a former coach, why are
you doing this? What's the win for you on this?
Like Dion is just like I feel like he's got
(43:06):
blood in his eye everywhere he goes. And this is
what I'm building here in Colorado and if you're if
you're no good, you're not for us here and we're
going forward and we don't care. And yeah we'll lose
half our team to the portal, but I'll get half
the team in the portland.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
We're gonna go win.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
I don't understand why he's doing this, because all he's
doing is ruining the image of Colorado outside of the program.
I get that you think, Hey, everything I'm doing is right.
And this is why Dion needs somebody around him saying hey,
I know you're you're you're a new style coach deon
and everything is great, but don't go on social media
and take on a kid.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
Don't do it. Just say hey, I'm sorry he felt.
That's how it went here. We wish him all the
best of luck and move on. Why are you fighting
with a kid You look like you're bullying him when
you and you and your son. It's getting back intom
with social media, and I get this in the world,
and when players want to go back each other on
social media, I understand that.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
I get that part.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
I get that if Shadura Sanders wants to stick up
for his dad and they're.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
Going I get it. But stay out of it.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Don't go on social media and say, oh, good lord
when the stats get posted, right, don't talk about guys
that leave the program and make it seem like good riddance.
Because bottom line is, there's many things to change in
college sports, and you know, child sports changed every five minutes.
And Dion wants to push himself forward as I'm a
new style head coach and I bring up a new
way to look at things. But certain things don't change,
(44:22):
and that is parents when they're sending their kids to schools,
either for academic or or sports reasons, they want to
know I'm going someplace where my kid can play. I
want to go where I can trust the coaching staff
because I'm trusting their development to this guy, and I
want to know if things don't go well, that it's
not gonna end badly. Do any of those things that
(44:44):
you're if you're a parent, if you're a parent, is
do any of those things sound like Colorado at all?
Speaker 1 (44:49):
Like you can go and trust to your kid's gonna
do well, because Dan may love your kid now. But
if he can't win, what do you say, last week,
we don't lose anybody. We lost backups. Oh, so he
doesn't care about kids that are backups. Meanwhile, he's gonna
have backups on his team this year. He's gonna have
eighty backups on his team this year. And he said,
I don't care about backups. There's no stability with that organization.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
And and and.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
It's it's such a it's such a bad spot from outside.
It's such a bad look for Dion that what he's
done that he doesn't realize this is that he has
now put a clock on how long he has to
win in Colorado. He has sped up that clock immensely. Right,
he showed up last year and they owned September. They
didn't end well, but okay, hey we're gonna transfer. We're
(45:29):
gonna get the guys here we want, all right.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
But now with all of this going on, where I'm
gonna bully kids and I'm gonna kick kids out of
the program and tell them they can leave. And all
of this going on and such a lack of cohesion
and a lack of stability. He is now fast forwarded
that clock to where he has to win by and
that's gotta be this season. If Dion has a bad
year this year with his kids and Travis Hunter, who
(45:53):
were hey, I got two top five picks overall in
the NFL draft, right, Travis Hunter's a top five pick.
Speaker 5 (45:57):
My kid's gonna be a top five pick.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
He's arguing with people on social media about should dr
Sanders being a top five pick? If you don't win
this year, it's Colorado think you're the guy? Or are
they gonna see? This is so much more of a
headache instability. We're gonna yearn for the one and eleven
season because at least we did that in anonymity.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
Like you have.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
You have, you have advanced the amount of time you
have left to win because you can't. You can't help
but get on social media and get out there and
say look at me. And when kids differ, when someone
differs with you of their opinion, you attack them, and
that's not a good look. All of these things are
gonna come back to haunt Deon Sanders to the point
again where if he doesn't win this year, how much
(46:36):
longer does.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
He have in Colorado? How much longer?
Speaker 1 (46:38):
I mean because others, other programs win other It's not
like he's doing something and nothing else has happened. If
he's doing something and suddenly they're eleven and one and
playing for the national championship, great, But I still see
teams like Washington and Michigan. They're all going to the
National they're winning games eleven and one. They're not making
fun of players that leave and transfer someplace else. They're
not taking on kids that didn't have a great experience.
You got to just have a little bit more class again,
(47:01):
less style, and more substance and more stability with the program.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
That's what he needs. But Jason, he's new school. He's
that guy. He's oh.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
Unless it's just bullying, just in a different form because
it's on social media instead of the way coaches used
to be.
Speaker 5 (47:18):
And look inside the program. I can't pretend to speak.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
For the kids that are that are part of the
program and how they feel on a day to day
because I imagine most student athletes feel like they're not
getting their just attention just do on a day to
day basis, unless you're the star, right star treatment, star players,
all that other stuff. I've never been convinced he's staying
(47:41):
much longer than his kids are there either, So that
whole part is still sitting in the background.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
No, And you know, and it's funny you say that,
because you know what he seems like right now. He
seems like the youth coach that I'm coaching my kids,
and then when my kids are gone, I quit again.
I'm going to coach and those the kids I care
about the most are my kids. Like the other kids
can play, that's fine, but I'm coaching this travel team
or this club team because my kids are on it,
(48:07):
because I'm gonna push them as far as I can
wherever they can for them.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
And then when i can't coach them anymore, then I'm done.
I'm gonna walk away. Like that's what you say.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
It's like right now coaching his kids and the couple
of other special kids that he's got, Like he's like
a youth coach, And how can you, how can you?
How can you have that image out here as a
college football coach and succeed when that's the kid.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
Well, you know, as we've seen with a lot of
university administrators, they don't really need seem to know much
of anything.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
I'll bring back our old pal Tom Looney.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Uh, just for a second, the old adage of just
because someone's in charge doesn't mean they know what they're doing,
right and that and that's where you get for administration.
If enrollment is fine and applications are still going up
because you know, you get pretty big feesh every time
someone applies to your school, and all of that is
flowing just fine, then there's nothing to see here as
(48:57):
far as most administrators, as long as he's not gonna
get caught up in a bunch of allegations and such.
Speaker 5 (49:02):
I think what Mike's trying to say is they're all dumbasses.
That's gotta where it comes from.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
Yeah, that's That's truly where I'm at, and you can
apply that to wherever you want in the world at large.
But but it's just that that idea and watching him
clap back and everybody defending all the haters just getting
after Dean, it's like he kind of earned this one.
And if this is how he fills his days and
finds some level of joy. Good on him, but the
(49:30):
optics of it are terrible in a million ways. The
youth sports angle is exactly you know, down the highway
I was headed. So you grab that. So that that's
where we're at. Is I'm gonna get my sons and
mister Hunter. See I get bored each word.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
Very good, very uh.
Speaker 4 (49:49):
Uh that.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
Uh that you you get them to the the NFL,
and that's it.
Speaker 5 (49:55):
I did my job. Yeah, that's and then I'm gonna
and then I'm done. I mean that that's kind of
what it looks.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
Like right now at Colorado with him and look, and
I'm just saying you have to pay attention to the
national optics because this is where your players are coming from.
And eventually one more cycle of this. Are kids really
gonna say I want to go play for him? No,
they're gonna say I could go there and if I'm good,
he'll love me. But what if I struggle a little
bit in the beginning, What if I don't he is
he just gonna turn the page on me?
Speaker 5 (50:20):
Is even know my name? Yeah, I don't know. I
don't know that.
Speaker 1 (50:24):
I'm down with that because there's many other places you
can go that you can succeed at where you will
feel much more comfortable in and have a sense of
stability with the program.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
I'm thinking about another all time great uh, Woody Woodpecker.
Remember the famous Seinfeld episode right where mister Pitt wants
to be on the balloon for Thanksgiving and it's like,
what are you an agitator?
Speaker 5 (50:47):
Yeah? That's right. I mean that's kind of where Dion
is in.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
A lot of this doesn't deny his greatness as a
as a speaker and as a player, one of the
greatest we've ever seen, but at this point, a lot
of it is just an agitator.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
See if you can get under people's skim Jason, the
real question, Yeah, so do we cut in paste with
uh which VHS covered?
Speaker 5 (51:09):
Do we put on his logo on? Okay? Is it over?
Speaker 4 (51:13):
Steven Sagall out for blood?
Speaker 1 (51:16):
I know Dave Lewis there will be blood. Oh no,
there will be blood now, I gotta go. There will
be blood because you know it's coming. That's what There
will be blood at Colorado DJ. Did you know Eli,
if I go into your transfer portal and I go
all the way to the other side, of the transfer portal.
I'm in your transfer port start yelling, drain.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
And then he picks up a bowling pen. I'm done.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon,
Live from the tirec dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
I mean
