Speaker 1 (00:25):
Radio, Welcome in side, Happy Friday. Who do we have
some stuff tonight The Jason Smith Show with my babs
friend Mike Harmon, Well Dressed Hoboat. For over forty years,
tire Rack's been uping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive, Shipped fast and free, backed
(00:48):
by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like
mobile tire installation. Tirack dot Com is the way tire
buying should be. We still have not even hit free agency.
We still have not really seen a bunch of trades.
But I don't know that anybody can win the off
season more than the Ravens have big, big NFL news.
(01:11):
Just a few moments ago, you had to We'll get
to Aaron Judge grinding into a double play against the
high school pitcher. We'll get to Jason Tatum and his
pesky return. What that didn't happen is not on TV.
There's there's no error, No that you that's AI. It's
all AI. That didn't actually happen. Uh. The you should
be happy, Frostburg, you got rid of You got the
(01:32):
greatest pass rushers in the last decade is out of
your division?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Has Joe Burrow asked for a trade yet?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Joe Burrow? Yeah, Joe Burrow is uh like, why is
Joe Burrow trending on?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah, because he's got to face a bunch of dudes
now twice a year, six games out of your season.
This is just a few moments old, maybe a little
bit less than a half hour. The first big domino
of the off season has fallen, and again the raven
have already won the offseason. The Raiders are trading Max
Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first round
(02:07):
picks twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven. So now
they're gonna pick first and fourteenth. They got a first
round pick next year. The Ravens beating out the offer
of the Dallas Cowboys, who are willing to offer a
first and a second round pick to the Raiders for Crosby,
who in Zeed goes to the Ravens. He's a big
toy for Jesse Minter. And I'll be honest, Mike Carmon,
(02:29):
I'm coming into tonight and I'm going I can't believe
no one's made this trade for Max Crosby. How is
Max Crosby still a Raider? How is Max robs the Raider?
I would have given up more for Max Crosby. You
are not gonna get a guy this good, still with
at least three maybe four peak years left to wreck
havoc like he has for the past six or seven.
(02:50):
This is a two time All Pro and a five
time pro bowler. He averages ten sacks a year. You're
not gonna get better this. Hell yeah, I trade at
least two first round picks to get Max Crosby. This
is it. He is the definition of a plug and
play guy. He doesn't need to be coached, He doesn't
do anything. His motor, his attitude just what there it is, Max,
Go get the quarterback, Go do your thing like he is.
(03:12):
You can just pick him up, bring him over, PLoP
him down and he is fantastic. He wanted out of Vegas.
Vegas had to make a deal. I'd give him up
more for him. This is a tremendous move for the Ravens. Yes,
first two first round picks. I get it. But you're
getting one of the top edge rushers in the game
the past decade that's still twenty eight years old. Yes,
you go get Max Crossby.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah, we were talking about it a little bit as
getting ready to come into the studio. It's like, you know,
I and Roddy are producer on the iWatch of Flex
and part of our team. Here he goes the Jets
got more first Sauce Gardner like, yeah, that is that
is true because you got Ady Mitchell. He got a
couple of first round picks. Now, some of this becomes
(03:53):
the question of you know, where you're trying to do
Crosby a solid not sending him to Football Siberia. The
offers the same, but it seems like an opportunity to
truly maximize things. And you know, conflicting reports of how
much he wanted in or out. Yes, he was upset
at the last regime for Operation Shutdown, but could that
have been remedied all of this stuff with Guerrero and
(04:16):
everything going on, and whether you got moles and guys
that are trying to exert some clout where they had
should have none and unrest there. But to get this
type of player for two draft picks. I got like
four texts from all my guys in Baltimore. I can't
read any of them because they're all so expletive laden
(04:36):
about picks. And I mean, it takes everything that the
rams have said, and you know they added all the
extra extra language to adjacent and they'll still in the
playoffs there. But you've now pushed all in. You needed
a pass rush. I would have thought you would have
just signed O ways since we saw mintor unlock him
(04:56):
here in Los Angeles. But it doesn't preclude that move.
But dude, but you make the big push here and
you go get the guy.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
He's a terror. Max Crosby is an absolute terror. He
is a lunatic in the best way possible, right, like
his attitude, the edge he plays with, nobody likes playing
against him. Look, it's my favorite Max Crosby story of
all tied all the things he has done, my favorite
Max Crosby story is from not this preseason, but last
(05:26):
preseason when the Raiders had a joint practice with the Rams.
And you know, joint practice, you don't hit the quarterback.
You let him go, and if it looks like the
play is getting close, you know, they blow the whistle
so the quarterback doesn't get hurt. Right, this is how
you do it. And Matthew Stafford telling the story after
their joint practice, how mad he got because Max Crosby
(05:46):
kept getting in the backfield and yelling sack sack, sack, like,
you gotta blow the playe dead because I want to
sack Matthew Stafford and he goes, we can't even run place.
He's this lunatics running around in the backfield, sack sack,
sack like. That's my favorite Max. He is a lunatic
in the best way. He can wreck a game all
by himself. There's not enough. I mean, I don't know.
(06:07):
Three first round pick, sure I would have, because I'm saying,
how many years am I gonna get out of him?
That are gonna be great? Right? You don't know what
could happen, obviously, but in theory he's twenty eight, I'm
gonna get three four great years out of him. He
is that big of a talent, you know. To go
back to less Need, who said the other day when
the Rams made that big trade for McDuffie, was the
first thing we do is look and say, are there
any all pros we can get? Right? And that's a
(06:29):
great way to look at it, because free agency this
year especially, you look at the people out there. Not
a great year. Man, people are gonna overpay for some
duds in free agency. Man, I'm telling you, but who
do you look? Okay, what all pros are there out
there to go get? This is the guy to go get.
I can't believe it did. It took this long, and
I can't believe Tom Brady couldn't get more from Max
Crosby than this. I really am stunned, because you're right,
(06:52):
the Jets did get more for Sauce Gardener. We had
two first round picks and and ad Ni Mitchell right,
they almost it's it's almost very similar to what other
defensive players without Max Crosby's pedigree have gone for in
a trade the last couple of years. And I really
I don't get I get that Max Crosby wanted out.
I get that the Raiders, you know had to move
(07:14):
on from him. I completely understand. I'm not saying the
Raider should have kept him because it went past the
point of no return with his injury at the end
of the year last year, and he was upset when
the Raiders sent him home. He didn't want to go home.
He wanted to play. I mean, you could have easily
blamed that on Pete Carroll and said he's not our
coach anymore. But I mean that was a big thing,
and that was really the beginning of the end for
Max Crosby. But you could have held on this. This
(07:35):
is a plug and play guy, man. I mean you
could have You could held on to him, and you
could have gone closer to the draft that you could
have got more. Because this is the guy that you
go out and pay that for, right This is this
is what you go out guys like Max Crosby and
Micah Parsons, this is what you go out and trade
for him. I mean, I can't I mean, you're right, Frostburg,
the Raven's still gonna find a way to blow it
(07:57):
in the playoffs. But I can't say enough about how
big a move right now for.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Well, I think as you look at it for the Ravens.
You're in that you gotta win now, right, Lamar Jackson
is now going towards the back end of that first
decade in the league, and we have no guarantees it's
going to age well. Right, you see the mobility starts
to come down, the injuries start to mount, all of
those things that add up to an issue. Now they
(08:23):
still have to go find some receivers for Jackson to
throw to. But you solve one of the biggest problems
you had last year. You had no pass rush whatsoever.
Every week I would do my spot in Baltimore and
we'd be talking about that deficiency. And one of them,
and I already mentioned his name once was was Oway,
who had been there and hadn't been able to do
much of anything as a pass rusher. And he showed
(08:45):
up in Los Angeles and all of a sudden, he's
he's going He's a holy terror against opposing quarterbacks on occasion.
So you're looking at trying to maximize what's left of
Lamar Jackson's window, which means you push all in to
the less need comment. Yeah, you go get the player.
Someone else wants to try to go one hundred percent
on those picks. Have ad it, Ravens. This is as
(09:08):
low as they've picked. What was it twenty twenty two
when they picked Kyle Hamilton and Linderbaum. Well, Linderbom's gonna
end up somewhere, maybe actually in Nevada as their new center,
but otherwise they were picking in the twenties and low
twenties for years. So you go and push that away. Okay, go,
if you think you can strike gold, go mining, have
(09:29):
at it. We'll take the player. And for the Ravens,
we talk about the changing of the head coach. We
talk about these near misses, and there have been near misses,
but guess what they a'll count the same. A loss
is a loss. You tell me about a bad punt return,
you tell me about a drop pass or a field
(09:49):
goal miss, whatever, they all count the same. It's it's
an l and you all went home, which means, don't
leave it to the margins and go find an impact playmaker.
And as we've chronicled extensive, Leland will continue to do
so as the new year League year starts.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Man.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
How many free agents do you look at and go, yep,
that's the guy. Linder Balm's the only guy that you've
been able to say that everybody else is all right,
system fit. What's the ceiling? So go get Max Crosby.
Whether he's he'll be really happy to go to Baltimore.
I mean, you talk about winning culture and getting away
from L after l as much as he was wanting
(10:28):
to be a Raider for life. He'll have to get
that tattoo changed, I think.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But oh, that's easy. I think that I think that's
part of the deal. And you're gonna pay to change
my tattoo. Okay, that's fine. Yeah, we got the best
guy at Baltimore. Don't worry about it.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Man.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
We can make that lined up.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
We can make that shield into a crab easy.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
We'll pick you up at the airport. Make sure that happens.
I mean, look, you look at last year. You remember
the Ravens. Last year they were really kind of you
want to say, done in by the first half of
the season when their defense was absolutely abysmal. Right, it
was like, how is the defense this bad? How are
they giving up forty points to Buffalo and then you
know thirty eight points to Detroit, thirty seven of Kansas
(11:09):
City forty forty Houston thirty six is awful. In a
row like this is awful. But that's the start that
what killed their season because then after the bye week
they fixed it. They had won five in a row.
They come down to the final week of the season
for the AFC North with Pittsburgh. Their defense plays a
little bit better. Overall, they played better. They fixed a
lot of that bye week. I don't know that there
(11:30):
is a team that had a better bye week adjustment
last year than the Ravens did. But now you're hitting
the ground running, new start, new things, new energy, and
now you have probably you're talking about the second most
talented person that the Ravens have had in the Lamar
Jackson era on this team again, Max Crosby. Look, Derek
(11:53):
Henry's terrific, right, I love Derek Henry. Max Crosby is
the second most talented player that they have had in
into Lamar Jackson run. And that's a huge deal when
you have guys on either side of the ball like this.
Now I can't get over there, and this is a
division that is there for the taking because Cincinnati, you
know what kind of problems they have. The Browns always
(12:15):
have problems, right, Pittsburgh didn't even know who their quarterback's
gonna because Aaron Rodgers is sitting out again waiting like
this was the Ravens taking a big move and saying, hey,
we're gonna grab hold of the AFC North right now.
And again, I don't know what the rest of the
offseason is gonna hold. I don't know who's gonna be
able to take somebody somewhere else whereverybody's going free agency,
but the free agency ain't that great. And I can't
(12:36):
believe a team's gonna ace the draft more. But I'll
tell you they should win the division. They should be
a big playoff threat. It's not gonna get any better
than the Ravens getting Max Crossby.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, we'll get deeper into the Raiders side of things,
because well now you got a couple more bites at
the proverbial apple that you have to get right in
this whole reset. But yeah, for the for the Ravens,
it's everything. And I'm only half kidding about our Joe
Burrow because he's got to be looking around. What did
I do to deserve you?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yeah, yeah, well that's all right. Joe's got some time
to get out. It's okay, drafted me, He's got some time.
Wait a minute, this wasn't my choice. This is like
every other week I have to be staring over my
left shoulder, looking at the looking at my blind side,
like every single.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Stunk every year too. So yeah, here's another two weeks.
Speaker 1 (13:26):

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Happy Friday. Max Crosby is a Raven.
Two first round picks headed to the Raiders. They should
have got more Raiders. Raiders. But before we get to
(15:24):
what's going on in the World Baseball Classic, which is
gaining all the headlines right now, you know, not for nothing,
but you know, I like to talk about matchups in
the NBA playoffs and how really the matchups will always
dictate to you know winners and losers, especially early rounds,
but this year more so than others, you can see that, Hey,
if really good team A matches up against really good
(15:45):
team B, I think I know how this is gonna go.
The Knicks lead the Nuggets right now by thirteen at
halftime in Denver, and Jalen Brunson has two points. Two
points for Jalen Brunt. I told you the Nuggets by thirteen.
Maybe he's not the MVP they have to take. Maybe
(16:06):
you have to take Jalen Brunson off of my MVP ballot.
Now I may have to do that, Mike, I really
I may have to do that. Like that, Yeah, just
like he.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Turned on in that fest because I thought you were
gonna tell me that.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
A h.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
The Clippers are a title contender now as they're up
eleven on the Spurs on the road midway a second,
you know this this Spur, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Yeah, But here's the thing, Like you know, when you
win ten eleven games in a row, you know, then
you're gonna lose one. Then you're gonna win ten more
in a row. Then you're gonna lose one. It's gonna happen.
But it's still it's still early. It's still early in
that game. This I mean, I mean, even if the
Nuggets win, the second half doesn't matter. Nick's clearly have
won the first half, you know, especially with Brunson only
scoring two weeks He's one out of eight from the floor.
This is this is stunning that that the Knicks can
(16:52):
have an effort like this in the first half and
Brunson scoring two points on one of eight shooting. It's
absolutely stunning that the Knicks canna have a thirteen point Ly,
if I told you Knicks were playing Denver and at halftime,
Jalen Brunson's got two points, he's one freight, I would say,
what would the Nuggets have to be winning sixty to
thirty five? What are they down by twenty? Knicks down
by twenty five? Maybe it could be down by thirty
with Jalen Prince at Nope, they're up by thirteen over Denver.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
The battle of Robinson and shamant as to who is
the most valuable sixth man of the Knicks.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Oh no, no, I think right now Robinson and Shammitt
split the MVP. I think I think they split. You
got twenty three points off the bench. From those two,
add another two from Alvarado. I mean that second unit
just getting some work done. Yeah, go New york O News.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Well they had to because your would be MVP failed.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Jokic. Meanwhile, twenty one five and four so far for
the Nuggets. Again that game at halftime, but the Knicks
are the thirteen point lead, getting two points.
Speaker 6 (17:49):
Jason, it doesn't count though it's not on TV.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
No, no, it's on MSG. It's on MSG. It's it's
there TV. Though. What doesn't count is Juan Soto's error
and left field in the World Baseball Classic. There's no
real no, no, no, I don't think anybody saw it.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
I mean counts a lot more than a player. You're
gonna celebrate.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
What is happening right now in the World Baseball Classic
opening night for the United States. They are thumping Brazil
pretty good right now, seven to one. Honestly, it should
be twelve to one, thirteen to one. It's been a
big night. Up and down. The lineup for the United
States are in Judge has a big two run homer
starting things off in the first inning. You have seven
(18:32):
different players scoring runs, and Schwarber's got a couple of hits.
It's been a pretty good up and down the lineup,
even though even Bryce to Ryan hitting ninth has three
RBIs to night for the United States again, bottom of
the seventh, up seven to one over Brazil. Brazil has
two hits, Ramirez with a leadoff home run off of
Logan Web and that's really been it for Brazil so
(18:52):
far this game.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Yeah, but if miss Gaye or however we I did
not hear the pronunciation of the man's name, mas guy
the left fielder, if you knew how to play the
left field wall, it would have been an out instead
of three run scoring. So uh, you know, defense does
matter as we go through. But yeah, the United States
cruising along as you expect. Like see a Clayton Kershaw
(19:12):
appearance before long.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Oh yeah, well, I don't know. I don't know if
it's safe enough to bring it. It's only a six lead.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Well, they'reaving human white flag, Pete Armstrong is out there.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Yeah, they got PCA in the outfield now, so uh,
I yeah, I don't know. I don't think it's that.
I think you got to get to at least a
double digit lead. It's safe enough to bring Kershaw in? Okay, Yeah,
if it's if it gets to be eleven to one,
then but you still have to have somebody ready to
come in, Like you can't just bring him in and say, Okay,
we're gonna close things out and now he's got to
come in, but you gotta have a guy ready just
in case.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
That's right, Brazilla has walked eleven batters eleven.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
That's a lot.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
But the big story from this game, and this is
why I love the World Baseball Classic because we get
stories like this. Okay, Joseph Contreras, Uh, pitch tonight. Brazil
went a little over an inning. And if you're thinking, wait,
is that Yes, that's Joseph jose Contreras's kid. It's an
(20:09):
awesome thing. He's seventeen years old pitching tonight for Brazil
against the United States. He is in high school. He
is a seventeen year old high school kid pitching. And
this is why I love the World Baseball Classic because
you get the announcers saying things like and here comes
Joseph Contreras, high school senior. You know, he's skipping school
(20:31):
this week to pitch in the World Baseball Classic. Actually
had to get an extension for his big ap American
History Project had a big debate that was supposed to
go on today, but that'll go on next week. Also,
he is in charge of the bake sale to benefit
both the sports programs and the Performing Arts department, and
the Spring Fling will be going on in two weeks.
(20:52):
He wants to go to that. But first, here's Aaron
Judge with the bases loaded, like that's what we are.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Feel gone.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
Called Feron Judges home run?
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Right?
Speaker 1 (21:09):
No, I didn't call Feron Judges home run. I didn't
try to call Freendie again the basis I didn't call
freddie a yet. Where where said we're celebrating that that
here's what you know in the world baseball classic kid
high school kids canna come in and face the greatest
the world right now, we're not. We'll get to that
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
And he headed to Vanderbilt.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
We'll get to that a little bit.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Although I see Jake and Treres in the box score,
I think of his old man.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Here's Joseph Contreras and in the game. And he's got
his driver's test coming up next week. Pretty nervous. Uh
got his permit just a week ago. Now he's got
Bryce Harper stepping in.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Proposal, though, think about that World Baseball Classic. All of
a sudden he flips his glove over and will you
go to problem with me? I mean, come, I mean
this is this is insane.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Maybe he's not and he's facing the best hitters in
the world, right lands. I love the world because usually
you get stuff like well, and here pitching for Brazil.
Maybe you remember this guy, he's forty seven years old,
never made it to the major leagues, just had a
handful of innings at the Double A level back in
twenty ten, just outside and here he is right now,
(22:18):
Bobby Witt Junior leading it off in the inning form
Like I mean, this is this is the World Baseball Classic.
Like we think, oh, it's the best players in the
world now, and Japan is really good, the United States
all this, but really, this is what it is. It's
guys that never even made it into the majors and
all the guys that are seventeen years older. They went
from a seventeen year old pitcher to a forty year
old pitcher, you know, coming in for Brazil. And still
(22:39):
he started what kept walking.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Here and a green haired Dante Bischett Junior I mean,
you got everything in this game, like this.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Is the this is this is the real world Baseball Classic. However,
this is why this was so good, because he actually
did get to face Aaron Judge with the bases loaded
in the set second inning, Judge already with a two
run homer in the first inning, and you think, okay, well,
this is where the United States breaks the game open.
(23:06):
This is a guy who's gonna go down as one
of the five greatest Yankees of all time. And yes,
Joseph Contreras throws a ninety seven mile an hour fastball,
but this is still again, he's gonna go down as
one of the five greatest Yankees of all time. It's
coming off of an MVP year. And this is what
Aaron Judge did. Bases loaded, one out, a chance to
(23:28):
put the game away. In the second inning, Treis broken
bat out. There the double play.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
How about that all of seventeen high school senior the
MVP's at the plate with the bags joiced, and he gets.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Out of it.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
Jason hates his country.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Oh no, no, no, no, no no, no, it doesn't matter.
Winning this game. I can now say to my dad
Fox on the call, I gotta say to my dad, Dad,
Judge can't even hit bleep in high school pitching, and
it would be right. You know your dad, I wouldn't
be trolling. I already you can't Frostburg. As soon as
that happened, I couldn't text him fast enough. I was
lightning McQueen on my phone.
Speaker 6 (24:10):
Texted him instead of saying it to his face.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Yeah, well, because he you know, he doesn't really answer
the phone that much after after six o'clock at night.
He's like if he's like the reverse vampire instead of
being up all night, Like yeah, yeah, I I gotta
text him. But I mean, I'm not trolling. I'm not
trolling when I say that. I say he can't even
hit high school pitching, and I'm right, I'm not trolling it.
I'm not saying he can't hit a high school he not.
He grounded to a double playoff a high school pitcher
(24:32):
Aaron Well, at least at least people will stop talking
about the fly ball he dropped in the world, so
they will talk about this game.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Yeah, high school thing. I mean, maybe it was a
faulty bat. If you're the kid, you get him to
sign every shard of wood that splintered all over the
place here and then you sell, sell, sell.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Hey, Aaron, will you sign this ball for me? This
is the ball you hit into a double player. Guys
are usually pretty good sport.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
It's about that after they, you know, talk about their
bank accounts or.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Hey, Joseph, Joseph, what an Aaron? Right on your ball?
Here it is It says, go blank yourself, Aaron.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Judge, that's good advice.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Oh that's fantastic. Uh they see now and surprise. This
is what has taken for me to be excited about
the World Baseball Classic. This got to you. I've hated
the World Baseball Classic for years, mainly because most of
the time when Mets players play, I have to worry
about them getting hurt. And I still go back to
Edwin Diaz a couple of years ago, where we missed
him for the entire year because he's just celebrating a
(25:32):
win and I'm like, I can't stand the World base
But now I'm like, Okay, this has brought me into
the World Baseball Classic. Now.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Look, man, he might have won a video game at home,
done that same little hop and busted it up there.
You never can tell he was trying to do something great. Look,
I'm all in, you know, pride of country. We're coming
out of the Olympics, and the celebration that we've got.
I mean, look at all these cool celebrations. We gotta
gotta lootcha mask for the Mexican team, we got the
(25:58):
changing of the guard for the English team. I mean,
there's all sorts of chaos going on here.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
I love it. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's fun. It's
fine and again and I do have a big sigh
relief after every game is over. I go, Okay, are
my guys okay? Is everybody all right? Okay? Great? You know,
like like like Twins fans had to watch you go,
oh when Bucks that got hit by a pitch, like,
oh you got hit in the hand, Oh my god,
Oh my god, Ohm, I got it, Like like that's
kind of where you.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Go out for that handmaid.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
It's a doozy, right, Like that's where your mind goes
for it. It's okay, we got through. Everybody's fine. All right,
Let's get to the next game. Get through. Everybody's fine,
get to the next game.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
So you're just counting day to the seventeenth, not just
there because you want to go get drunk on Saint
Patrick's Day. But because the World Baseball Classic will be
over and players will disperse back to their respective MLB teams.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Noah, I mean, I look, there is gonna be I
am gonna be excited when it's over because then I know, okay,
every as long as everybody is okay getting back to
camp and nobody had to go too hard too soon.
But no, so far, I'm like, I didn't know how
I was gonna feel coming in, because that's that's kind
of my thing. Like, Okay, the World Baseball Classic is great,
but I care about my team more than anything else.
And I think that's the vast majority of baseball fans
(27:08):
feel that way. And I don't want anybody to get hurt.
I don't want the you know in this event, uh
to get that way. But this is what happens sometimes
when you have to go so fast and so hard
early on in the season, the soft tissue injuries, the hamstrings,
you know, not I never quite thought, you know, my
ace reliever would you know, rip up his achilles jumping
up and down celebrating. But you know that's what happens.
(27:30):
You know, you worry about guys going too fast, uh
too soon in the in the World Baseball Classic, and
they like to keep innings down because of it. I
get that.
Speaker 6 (27:38):
And what happens since Jason's been hating on Team America,
Brazil's now scored three straight runs.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
That's it to run home run.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Not my fault, hey, listen, listen, not my fa not.
Speaker 6 (27:50):
Many people hate their country more than you right now.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Oh no, no, stop now, Now they can't bring it's
not even safe enough to bring Kershaw and it's only
a three run lead now for the United States. Can't
bring him in there?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Yeah, because you spoke that into existence.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
TJ. Michael Waka Walka, Waka Walka his way to giving
up three runs here in the seventh for the United States,
and he is just he is just getting tattooed. He
gets he gets one hundred mile an hour line out
the third base to end the inning. That will probably
end the night for Walka, who goes three innings. So
United States now more of a game against Brazil seven
(28:25):
to four going to the top of the eighth inning.
But no, but I like, I like I said, I
didn't know how I would feel. I wanted to keep
an open mind to it. How'd field going in and
this these couple of things. Okay, right, you know, you know,
uh uh, Jose Contreras's kid pitching. It's kind of fun.
Judge hitting into a double PLAYOFFIM, Okay, that's a ton
of fun. Uh And okay, And we were and we
(28:46):
were cruising, and everybody is okay, not thrilled about the
Juan Soto error in left field, because oh, he's gonna
be a great left fielder. No, first time he gets
touched the ball this season in a game that counts,
he makes an error. But I that I'm okay. I
am absolutely okay. As long as the ball didn't hit
anywhere on him and he had to come out of
the game, it was just an error, So I can
live with that. I'm fine.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
He got the error out of the way and it
didn't count for you. Now, it does it sit in
the deep recesses of your mind, and in a pivotal game,
say you're trying to go meet the Dodgers in the NLCS,
that Soda will have the ball hit to him, and
it'll be like the little kid right field that you
remember as as a kid, going don't hit it to him, Please,
(29:26):
don't hit it to him U and then they do
and and you're waiting to see with baited breath, how
does it end like when the fly ball is hit
to timmy loopis in bad news exactly.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Oh my god. The one parent stands up.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Oh my god. There's a great there's a great country
song where the kid's talking. You know, they're talking about
the kid throwing the ball up and he's uh, he's
trying to hit the home run to win the World Series.
And then he swings and misses three three times and
it's a Kenny Rogers song called the Greatest Uh. And
after he swings in, this is the third time, he goes, well,
(30:02):
I'm the greatest picture of them all looking at him.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
I took him out.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Suddenly he's the other on the other side of it.
Same thing here for your guy. Want so No, you're
trying to find a positivity.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
But by that time, as the season gets on, he'll
be the designated hitter. It'll be fine in the big
September Games, designated hitter. And you know who you'll miss,
Pete Alonzo. All right now, I'm gonna keep your car
after the show.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Key when he's got fifty seven home runs for the Oriols.
Are you gonna have Ralph uber.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
You when he goes? When he goes, when he hits
twenty four home runs and knocks in seventy two runs
this year for the Orioles, don't come crying to me
and say, oh, I can't believe that.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
Just wait, how about we go to a man that
loves his country unlike you.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Sure look, I love like. I just hate when I
can't sugarcoat what happens when Aaron Judge hits into a
double playoff a high school kid. I mean, I can't
uh time now to find out what's trending from a
guy who's been called the Joseph Contreras of Fox Sports
Radio because he went to high school too. It's cheap
to say.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
That's pretty much the extent of it.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
You as somehow, is only a head seven against Brazil
in the top of the eighth of their World Baseball
Classic opener in Houston. It's on Fox TV right now.
The Americans have been walked eleven times, and yet they've
left ten men on base. Aaron Judge at bat right now.
The team captain did hit a two run homer in
the first, but grounded into a double play with bases
(31:20):
loaded in the second, Bryce terrang a three run double
gifted one in the fifth inning as the left fielder,
the Sky simply lost it. However, he has responded with
home run for Brazil off Michael Walk at bottom of
the seven. So what was seven to one is now
seven to four US in the league the games in
the top of the eighth for tonight only the US
(31:41):
is the visiting team. The American second game of the
tournament Saturday night in Houston against Great Britain on Fox.
Mexico beat Great Britain today eight to two. It was
tied one to one in the eighth. Attendants thirty thousand
for that game, thirty one thousand apparently for the US
game tonight. Japan early this morning our time on its
opener in Tokyo, thirteen nothing over Chinese Taipei Shoheo Tani
(32:05):
hit a grand slam. Venezuela won six to two against
the Netherlands Luis a Riaz with two RBIs Cuba with
three nothing lead in the third, one three to one
against Panama. Puerto Rico scored five in the fifth. Tonight
won five nothing against Columbia ed when Diaz struck out three.
In the ninth, the Dominican Republic won twelve three over Nicaragua.
It was three to three in the sixth inning. Three
(32:28):
RBIs apiece for Julio Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero Junior.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
On to the NBA.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
There was a game in Boston with Jason Tatum on
the court tonight, returning after the torn achilles last May.
In the playoffs. He played twenty seven minutes and in
the win over Dallas won twenty to one hundred. Tatum
had fifteen points, twelve rebounds, seven assists. Miami ended Charlotte's
six game winning streak one twenty eight to one twenty
Tyler Hero thirty three points. Houston came back to be
(32:57):
Portland one oh six to ninety nine. Right now, it's
the next ahead at Denver eighty to sixty six in
the third quarter, Clippers with a twenty point lead at
San Antonio at the half sixty six to forty six,
Brook Lopez with seventeen points, and the Lake games about
to start, the Lakers hosting Indiana. Cay Cunningham of the
(33:17):
Pistons is questionable for Saturday with the Bruce squad. There's
men's college hoops on FS one twelve minutes to go,
Eighteenth ranked Saint John's Only leads forty six forty five
at Seaton Hall undefeated, and nineteenth ranked Miami, Ohio leads
with twelve minutes to go seventy four to sixty seven
at Ohio University. Among the seven NHL games going to overtime,
(33:42):
Colorado tied four to four at Dallas, Florida, was a
three to one winner at Detroit. And yes, the Raiders
not only cutting quarterback Gino Smith, but tonight they're trading
at rusher Max Crosby to Baltimore for two first rounders.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show at my best and Mike Carmon coming up next,
we got the play of the day coming your way,
and we get into the big return for Jason Tatum
and the Celtics tonight. What to make of it? We'll
tell you next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Oh Jason and Mike twenty eight years ago today.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
March sixth, nineteen ninety eight, a young Justin Frossberg decided,
you know what, I'm gonna go to the movies today.
I heard this Big Lebowski might be pretty funny. Happy
Birthday the dude in company this day, nineteen ninety eight, and.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
I'm the Jesus m hm.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
This is what happens, Larry, this is what happens.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
Yeah, yeah, I went to Ralph the next day after
singing that or seeing that in theaters and not not
your Ralph like the supermarket in a bathrobe and jellies
(35:29):
celebrate the hell out of it.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Now,
if we didn't have this, if we didn't have this
play coming up, we could make Julianne Moore and her
entrance with the paint you know, the play. Yeah, no,
that'd be good. That's that's one of the more underrated
funny But let Jeff Bridges reaction which he just comes
(35:54):
flying it over the top with the paint. Uh. But
we have some big world Baseball classic classic to come
your way right here for the Play of the Day.
The Play of the Day, of course, is brought to
you by ti iraq dot Com for over forty years,
(36:15):
tire Rack's been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive, Shipped fast and free, backed
by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like
mobile tire installation. Ti rack dot Com is the way
tire buying should be. Okay, now you can play the
Aaron Judge home run for the play of the day.
Go ahead, miss city face sat through the up side
(36:39):
of base here holding half third, although a bottled and
let fit.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Now here comes the green lef hen here comes another run.
Sodo bottled it and left, Sodo bubbled in.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
And Samara who's stopped, and Gary Pettis changed his mud
and their three two leads thunder Dusty Baker, Oh boy,
so yeah, Okay, I should have known. I should have known.
Juan Soto's error was going to be the the play
of the day. Okay, Now it didn't matter because he
(37:13):
went two for four Dominican Republic beating Nicaragua twelve to three.
But yes, Wan Soto left field first time he touches
the ball, I think it hits off his knee and
bounce us away for a big error to give Nicaragua
a run. But there is your unfortunate play of the day.
(37:33):
Fine frostbured. Fine, feel happy, now you're happy.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Look he got it out of his system. Now you
know who's not going.
Speaker 6 (37:38):
To get an out of their system?
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Get used to it again. He'll be the day if
it gets that bad, he'll be the designated hitter. It's
gonna be fine.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Can you my frame out photo shop him into a
match uniform so we have that after ready for the season, justin.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
We don't need that. It's fine, don't worry about it.
Everything is good, Everything is good. So yes, it's still
going on right now. United States puts another run on
the board right now is eight to four. As they
bat in the top of the eighth inning, Pete crow
Armstrong is just grounded out to end the inning though
of the United States, and they go to the bottom
of the eighth with an eight four lead, opening game
(38:14):
of the World Baseball Classic. We're gonna have John Paul
Morosi joining us after the game is over for all
the latest here. He's already got a bunch of stuff
on Joseph Contrera, so you know, it's always a fun
visit with him. But tonight, what I thought was gonna
be story number one then got pushed down a story
number two, and then after the Max Crosby trade, got
pushed the story number three. The return of Jason Tatum
(38:36):
to the Celtics lineup against the Mavericks, a game that
Mike Harmon wanted to paint app yesterday, saying it's gonna
be a tough game because Cooper Flagg is coming back Celtics.
Did I say such things? Yes, I made for TV
event with two stars and I told you, but it
doesn't matter you Like, I said, what's their record with
(38:57):
Cooper Flag? You said, oh, don't. I don't have that
information here. I don't. I don't have that.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
I just know they stink. You're like, look, they still
covered the number. It was fifteen and a half.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
You were the guy lay the wood. No, they lost
by twenty out of the That's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
They covered the number.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Yeah, Cooper Flag goes for sixteen. But Jason Tatum, who
started for the Celtics tonight, played twenty seven minutes, didn't
have quote a minute's restriction tonight, but still didn't play
more than a few minutes in a row. Did look
a little rusty, but still twelve seven assists and or
(39:36):
or fifteen points, twelve rebound, seven assists, A pretty good
night from overall. The Celtics win pretty easy. He was
plus twenty for the night, and you should s. And
the one big takeaway from this is not well, how
good was Tatum looking when he comes back? He's gonna
be fine. We told you last night. This is incredible
news for the Celtics. They become a team that can
(39:57):
win the NBA Championship. But just to see the emotional
lift that I was not expecting when he scored his
first couple of buckets, My goodness, did the crowd just
absolutely go crazy for Jason Tatum a couple of big
buckets like it was welcome back. I mean, look, it's awkward,
it's not his team anymore. But this emotional lift that
(40:19):
he gave, I mean it was. It was like Game
seven of the NBA Finals, the way the bench and
the crowd was reacting to Jason Tatum's return here to Boston.
Like I said last night, I'll double down now. This
year is gonna be great for Boston. They're an NBA
title threat.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Back to zero shirts were on the seats all across.
I'm sure you can find them on eBay. Well chronicle
the secondary market as the night continues, but happy return
Luca Garza and Pritchard off the bench with twenty eight combined. Yeah,
big night for the self.
