(01:02):
you where we sit right now. The junior varsity game
is I'm sorry too? What do you do it too soon? For? That?
Is this how you're deflecting all of the hatred and
vitriol coming from your relatives and friends in the Greater
Detroit era. No, you felled them again. You let their
city down again for the second time in three years. Man.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
You said, oh, they're.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
All gonna win, They're all gonna win. Oh, and then
they flame out and spectacularly. I got them as far
as I could. I'm sorry, win one game at home,
win Game five at home, win game don't lose Game
five and Game seven at home by a combined one
hundred and forty five points. I got the Pistons as
far as I could. No one's more upset than me
that I can't have my potential Piston Spurs NBA Finals,

(01:44):
my long shot picks right, that ticket is now dead.
I mean, yeah, I mean, but not my fault. I
got the Pistol. That's the thing about Detroit. Apparently I
can carry the city of Detroit only so far, and
then okay, they just they can't do it themselves. Well,
you notice that I didn't even try on the schedule,
least this year. I don't think they tried to game yesterday. Well,
Dan Campbell basically walked in said here's the damn schedule

(02:06):
and walked out. Is thirty seconds long. And then yesterday,
and that was one of the more pathetic efforts I've
ever seen. They were so bad they put me to sleep.
It was awful, man, it was awful. And now, coming
off the Cavs huge seven game series win, right, James
Harden played terribly, but it's still yeah, six one turnover, Okay,
how many points are the It doesn't matter how many

(02:29):
points he had. He's in the top ten all time
for playoffs scoring, and you're trying to denegrate and deride
his whole career. How dare you're gonna tell you what
I said Friday, which is what I said Princess Wednesday. No,
because all I'm thinking is, here's the thing is, people
the last few days have just been talking to me
about stuff, right, And it's like my wife. My wife

(02:51):
used to say to me, you know what sent me?
What I meant about now? My wife used to say,
you know, I know when not to talk to you
about to because I know you're mind is on something else, right,
Because sometimes I'll say something to you and I know
when your head is going Curtis Martin, Curtis Martin, Judge,
that's Curtis. But I'm like, Okay, you're right. Sometimes it is, Yeah,
you're mad you gave him his hand bag. But like
the last five days, people try to talk to me

(03:13):
and have these cogent conversations with me, and I'm not
in my head and all in my head as I'm
going Nicks in for Nix and four, Nix and four,
that's all goes through my head. Now. Friday night there
were a couple of times five or six minutes of
NonStop because you were, you know, in your head going
Nixon for Look at the game last night, Nix and
four Knicks Calves Nixon four. Now they had yesterday a

(03:36):
Calves didn't have to expend any energy because his didn't
try Nix. So they're ready telling you man, they almost
had a day off the way the Pistons didn't come
to play. As the Knicks are here to save the
NBA playoffs, they are here to save us, all right,
Ignore how well you know. I played in a uker tournament,

(03:58):
Saturday card tournament, of course I want. And I met
a guy who's a Pistons fan, and right away like,
I don't know if he knew because I didn't. I
didn't know him. And right away like I don't know
if he knew that I was on the radio, because
sometimes it happens and I can tell when someone knows
what I do, when they they don't want to admit
that they knew. Like, and he's talking to me real
AGGRESSI about the Pistons. I'm going, hey, I picked you,
but you guys, you guys are playing awful. What are

(04:19):
you talking about? Kaate Cunningham is playing Greg. Kate Cunningham
is shooting six for twenty every game. I go, well,
he goes, when you play, when you play us, you
play us, Nick, I go, you have to win one
more game? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. I'm like, wow,
this is what it must be like talking to me
as a Knicks fan, because I'm like, no, you have
to win one more game. I'm like, oh, now I
see now, Now I see where people get in times. Okay,

(04:41):
see now, I say, okay, I got it. I got
it now. All that being said Nixon for Nick in
four So okay, So since you were looking up to
that mirror, did he have hair? Was he wearing orange
and blue? Going on? There? It was no, it was fine,
And go dude, You're just not You're out of gas.
Both teams are out of gas. Both the teams are
gonna get swept. You could play the best of both

(05:02):
of these two teams against the Knicks and next round,
and the Knicks are sweeping. That's how it's gonna go
right again, Underestimate how well the Knicks are playing at
your own peril. I mean, that's that's all I'm saying.
Under It's like everybody wants to have excuses for well
when they're playing this. They were playing the if the
if the Celtics were good enough, they have made it
out of the first round, if the if the Pistons
were good enough, they'd made it to the conference finals.

(05:22):
But they're not okay, So just understand that this is
the level that they're playing at. And I fully, I
know they've been awful while but they should win tomorrow.
By twenty five, this should be an exhausted Cavaliers team
coming in James Harden. All he's got this entire series
is to foul bait like that's all he's gonna have
against the Knicks defense. And hopefully it's Josh Hart that
draws that assignment, because I know he's not gonna get

(05:43):
drawn in now. I just want it. No, you go by? Hey,
how about I let you go by and you let
me go by? Gonna we just distribute were like a
h the designated quarterback on the sand line. Okay, this
guy picks me up in the pay but you let
me go by you, and I'll let you go by me.

(06:04):
Is that okay? Does that work? Okay? Great? Perfect, wonderful.
Nixon f Nixon for Nixon for meanwhile maybe six. Where
we sit right now, five and a half to go
in the third quarter, Game one of the Junior Game
one of the Western Conference Finals. The Spurs lead the
Thunder sixty four to sixty. Thunder had a big lead

(06:25):
in the first half. Oklahoma City had tied it. Now
the Spurs are up by four. It's been a big
game so far from Wemby with sixteen and eleven rebounds.
SGA has seven points in twenty five minutes. This has
been a Jalen Williams and Alex Caruso game, Caruso leading
the way with sixteen off the bench, also drawing the
primary assignment on Wemby a few times down the court.

(06:48):
Now it's clear what they're trying to do is, Hey,
we're gonna try to give Wemby a bunch of different looks.
Don't let them settle into the game. But you're only
gonna be able to do so much. The big thing
about this game, which I still think is a shocker,
and this is a much bigger story than that, we're
gonna keep getting into. De Aaron Fox does not play
this game with a sprained ankle. He has ruled out
about an hour before tip off, and d Aaron Fox

(07:11):
is terrific, right, And this is the pace of this game.
This is where things are gonna start changing and going
the thunder way as you get look, because this is
a guy who's you know, you're taking thirty five minutes
away from a guy wo's gonna be the primary ball handler.
And this pace, I don't know, as deep as the
spurs are, how you make up for that. So I
fully expect this game to slowly start turning towards the
thunder But the fact that he gets ruled out an

(07:32):
hour before the game with a sprained ankle. Now, he
sprained his ankle in game four, right, but played in
game five, played in game six, They've had a few
days off, and here he is an out for the game.
Couldn't get loose, couldn't play you know me, because I'm
always suspicious there is something we're not being told about this,
because this doesn't make sense that you play in game four,
that's your sprain, your ankle, off day, you play in

(07:54):
game five, off day, you play against off day, off day,
off day, and now you can't play. There's something we're
not being told about about this. And I don't mean
it's something where I'm not getting a point where oh,
hey there's cal she's involved. No, I mean there's something
drop this injury, about something that may have happened in
between these times. Because it makes no sense that he

(08:14):
gets injured in game four and he plays five and six,
and now three days later he can't play. There's something
we're not being told. Yeah, I thought you were gonna go, Jeff,
can't Clint barmeus going. Folks can look those up falling
off trucks or a bunch of meat and slipped and
that right dropped the gear meat on my foot. Yeah,

(08:36):
so you got a bunch of random injuries. But yeah,
potentially right during a workout had an issue. We always
await the extra level, but what what have we had?
The consistent piece b in the NBA playoffs. One home
court advantage doesn't mean a damn thing, but two. The
injury reports are nonsense. This guy may come back and

(09:00):
is the next day. Yeah, they're hoping for for this game.
All right, well there it's accelerated. Well not really, that
was all a lie. And then exit interviews suddenly they're
giving you the details of the injury. Luka Dancic just
go on down the line. So for this to just say, okay,
he couldn't get loose, do we take it at the face?
I doubt there's something where there's something we don't know.

(09:21):
I mean, the players get injured and are ruled out
of playoff games, not just because there's the stress of
injuries that that we we get where hey, it's a
long season. You get to the first round of the
playoffs and and a dinged up ankle suddenly turns into
something for a whole series. Right that that's one part
of it. But there's another part in the playoffs where
all of a sudden, how many times are we taken
by surprise by hearing what do you mean this guy's out?

(09:43):
What do you mean he's out? Wait, Paula Bonko's out. Wait,
he's out. He's back to Jason Tatum when he was
ruled out for the Celtics in the earlier rounds he's
supposed to be and then all of a sudden, bam,
he's out, and which gets into all those conspiracy theories
when you talk about the and betting markets and everything else.
But certainly in this case he sits out. Right. Jalen

(10:05):
Williams is back. Could he maybe have come back last
series if needed, maybe, but it was all no, no, no,
it's trending well. He should in theory be back for
Game one. And then as you mentioned, he and Alex Caruso,
they were the first two to really make a dent.
Caruso scored their first seven points. They're doing different things defensively,

(10:25):
and Williams is moving around very well and helping to
orchestrate the offense while they try to uncork whatever they
can from SGA as it goes on. But yeah, the
injury reports, we always said it in the NFL, and
now it's extended to pretty much every other sport. It's like,
I take it with a grain assault and we'll see, right.
We were talking with Steve Desager before the show the
updates coming out of the Dodgers as related to Blake

(10:48):
Snell and the loose bodies and what the procedure will
be for him to go get this looked at like
there's a lot of questions you have as to how
they describe this. So what does it mean that he's
throwing in a month, two months, or whatever the case
may be. Until a guy comes back, it's all theory.
But in this case, for dearon Fox, yeah, I'd like
a little more explanation here, a little more transparency, if

(11:10):
you will. Now, as the game again, four four to
go in the third quarter, sixty six sixty three Spurs
the lead over the Thunder. We said it is the
Alex Caruso game. And for really the first time since
he was a Laker, when Alex Caruso, Why is Alex
Caruso the number one trending topic on Twitter every night?
Why is he trend more than Lebron? Why do you
tread more than a d This is the Caruso game again?

(11:31):
Sixteen points for Caruso, four for seven behind the three
point line. And I'll go back to what we talked
about about a week or so ago, where you know,
you look back at the Lakers, they win the title
in twenty twenty, and they make a bunch of different
moves and it doesn't work out. We talked about this
a little bit with Marcus Smart being able to sign

(11:52):
a veteran, older veteran that that can that can really
be a difference maker. Like I really, I don't know
that the Lakers are over lou Alex Caruso. Caruso since
he's I mean, since he's come to Oklahoma City, turned
into an All defensive player in the NBA, still a
guy that can score fifteen off the bench. He fills
so many holes. And these are guys that are so

(12:12):
incredibly valuable, but you think, well, how much can we
spend on a guy like this? Where are you at?
But a team like Oklahoma City where you don't have
to rely on him to play thirty five minutes tonight
because a worst team is gonna say, hey, Caruso's good enough,
He's gonna start for us. And now you know, hey,
guess what, maybe his effectiveness goes down. He's got to
play more minutes. But when you can come off the
bench and get the matchups you want, he looks like

(12:34):
an All Star. You know where he is every time
he is on the floor. He is hitting big shots offensively.
You see that happen with TJ McConnell once in a
while in the playoffs, but Caruso has been the gold
standard of Hey, here's a team that is rich enough
to have him come off the bench, and he and
because of the matchups and be the way they can
deploy him. He looks like an All Star when he's

(12:54):
on the floor. Well, he spent those couple of years
in the third rank of hell, also known as playing
for the Chicago bull before becoming a member of a
much better, more robust organization and top down strategy consistency
both in the evaluation of talent in the draft and

(13:14):
how they operate free agency and of course work their rotations.
So it brings out the best of him. And it's
always the question, if he'd stayed in Los Angeles, is
he this player? I don't know, he might he was
a fan favorite. Yeah, Like that's what he would have
been come down as, because he wouldn't have been in
the same role. He would have had to have been
one of the key contributors. What he would have been

(13:34):
this guy, He would have been this guy coming off
the bench and being able to would because the Lakers
would have never had the group around him to where
he could be that guy. He would have been forced
into a primary role in those Lakers squads the last
Yeah but no. But now if you go Belka, go
back to the last two years with Luca, it would
have been a different story. Okay, Well, now here's a
different situation. Luca is in the backcourt starting now, Austin

(13:58):
Reeves the ascension of Himmember. He was coming off the bench,
and he'd be starting, so there would be no I mean,
he wouldn't be the last couple of years. He'd be
coming off the bench in this kind of run, and
he might have been the guy sent with any value
to Dallas to rig Lujah here. I mean, man, it's
just insane that when you think about that, the Lakers
may not be over losing Alex Caruso. It's just crazy.

(14:24):
I mean, he's been lamenting his loss all these years.
I think there's a picture in his wallet. Exit upb

Three minutes ago in the third quarter, Spurs lead at
seventy to sixty seven. But he got more big stuff
out of the NBA. Coming up next right here, Jason

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my bes
friend Mike Harmon. Going to the fourth quarter in Oklahoma City.
It is the Spurs or the seven point lead, no
d Aaron Fox has been okay for them so far. Yeah,
and the kids are all right. Eighty to seventy three
is the lead. Wemby twenty one and thirteen, No surprise there. Meanwhile,

(16:52):
for the Thunder, it is still an Alex Caruso night.
He has nineteen SGA your NBA MVP three out of
ten for ten points so far tonight for the Thunder
so one. On one side, you could say, Hey, I'm
feeling okay because we're going to the fourth quarter. He's

(17:14):
not gonna have that terrible a game. On the other hand,
I'm going, wow, he's really struggling against this Spurs defense.
So yeah, you pick your poison for the next twelve minutes. Yeah,
it's gonna be fun. They're up fourteen and a half. Okay,
right to the gambling. Well, you know, hey, let's not
be coy about it. It's part it's part of the

(17:35):
machine that makes it all run. The gambling. Now, yeah,
SGA has been a nod factor. So it's curious and
we talked about it, you and I before we got
on air, just the radio broadcast for those couple of
minutes as we're finishing our commute ten uh several times
going yeah, Wemby's just playing a zone, just kind of floating.
It's not really guarding anybody, daring you to get hot

(17:56):
from the outside. Yeah, so we'll see if that continues
under the fourth So more on this end of the
fourth quarter, but just a little bit more on SJA
before we get into Ronda Rousey and Gina Carno SGA.
It comes out early Shamstererania of ESPN. Lets it slip
a day ago. SGA is going to win back to
back MVPs. Now, this was supposed to be let go

(18:19):
on the streaming on the game last night, and it
was supposed to be announced there and it was not,
and I'm sure the league wanted to wait and have
that announcement on the broadcast better for the league. However,
Sean's saying what many insiders have said for the past
few years, it's not my job to help the NBA,
even though I could argue, well, it kind of is
a little bit, just a wee bit. You want to

(18:39):
help the business out of it, you know, But okay,
but you do you, You're all about you. I understand
that that's what insiders are. So I get that. And
there's been such a big backlash today of oh, should
he have saved it? The information? Should he have? Not?
Is he is? He beholden to working for a rights
holder to be able to let it go. But it's
not on their air what to help the sport. And

(19:01):
I I didn't see it from that perspective. I looked
at it from this and I just I looked at
it from this is streaming. Welcome to the NBA. This
is what you've gotten involved in. This is stuff you
have to police, right. You think everybody's gonna be nice
to you, and this is what it's like. This is
you want to you want you want to get in
the NBA. You want to get the rights here on
peacock and oh you want to this is the NBA.

(19:22):
This is stuff you gotta deal with, all right.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Now.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
I want to see I want to see them say
something or how do you how do you how do
you not run roughshot over them? The rest of the way.
I know you knew to the game, but this is
a welcome to the NBA moment. This is how you
deal with it. When woj was tip and picks in
the NBA draft, yeah, NBA everybody, they found a way
to get around to say, okay, we're not tipping picks anymore. Right,
that was a big thing. And then suddenly the picks

(19:45):
weren't tipped as much as they were. So this is
now or I look at it as this is the game.
You can like it, not like it and think the
chom should be able to hold back, or you know,
but it's got information so he's got to say it.
But it's really this is on you. You want it for
your broadcast. This is the whole thing. You to figure
out a way Welcome to the NBA. Yeah, there's a
couple of things to it. Number one, he was the
prohibited favorite and all betting markets. So I could ask

(20:07):
the guy at the end of the bar and he
would have been a really good SOURCESGA was winning MVP.
So if Shams had posted here's how the voting went right, No, no, legitimately,
I mean this like so, I cause I did my
show with Ryan Holland yesterday. There are the names of
the voters and how they voted. But with that level
of specificity, then I'm looking side high and I'm going,

(20:29):
but him just tweeting out and I saw someone going, well,
maybe he just had one that was scheduled and it
went he picked AM instead of PM for it, or
something like to that. Oh yeah, because that's what insiders doing.
Oh sorry, I just had to I didn't know I
had the raw AM instead of PM. Sorry guy. To
your point about the tipping of picks, here's the thing.

(20:49):
Those rights contracts, they're not so ironclad, right, So do
enough stuff to piss off the league and the balance
of monies that are coming in from all these new
and of these like Amazon, You're not just gonna get
slapped on the wrist. That's the potential where ESPN ABC
gets a little bit more than that. If Shams keeps

(21:10):
that up and we could talk about, you know, the
insider role, Hey I have information, I should go with it.
And again, not a whole lot of specificity. If Mike
garmin A Fox Sports Radio post that, yeah, she's she
you know s G He's gonna win this, Yeah we
all knew that, right, But you're not an insider with
with with with access to inside information. You're not someone

(21:33):
that can be told that you don't know that. I
could know someone that that's in the league, and all
I got to see I was right. Well, but if
you are, if you post s G a is going
to be named m VP, okay, if you post I
spoke to someone my sources teaing with the guy in
the place, the NBA sources tell me that he's going
to m VP, then that's different. That's okay, I talk

(21:54):
to somebody. Now this is this gets out? And how
does this get out? Now, Sham's It's it's worse because
this is a guy that you think, okay, he you know,
he has the best basketball interest in mind, and when
he does this, that's kind of dirty pool. But this
is also ESPN battling against streaming. Everybody's battling with each other.
This is where that's why I say it's your welcome
to the NBA moment. This is how the game goes.

(22:15):
You think someone gets that, they're not gonna do it now.
Now you got to find a way to have that
not happen when you want that on your ay, when
you have that, well so, but that becomes the question.
It's the the onus is now on the league if
they care, right, because this has always been leaked. It's
all just a question of of how much you want
to get mad about it. In this case, it was
we're gonna do this presentation as part of our inaugural

(22:37):
run here on Amazon Amazon. So they got a little
pissy about it and took their shots, and then Chams
did his victory laps, like, okay, this was a nothing
right in terms of insider stories for the most part,
we've talked about it for a long time, like there
are those that are kind of big stories. And then
he goes, huh, transactional shrug, move on. This was in

(23:00):
the case of all right again, if he suddenly had
the list, I can name names this guy of insert
entity X voted this three, this five, or he left
SGA off altogether. Okay, now we got something, but in
this case, he leaked it. Folks got mad, and we'll
see if the league bothers to respond. But where it

(23:21):
can be is if this continues, you're playing with fire
a little bit when you're talking about the amount of
money that gets spent on these rights. Welcome to the NBA.
That's what you want to in. You're in. I hope
it becomes a fight, though, you really do. I hope
it's not just a bunch of media folks doing the
verbal slap fight and you know, poison pen of Oh

(23:43):
this is the sanctity of the awards ceremony. Who cares?
We got the recap and what to know about the
Ronda Rousey Gina Carrano fight coming up next, But right now,
time to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. But guy who's been called the Shams Tarani
of Fox Sports Radio, when he knows something, he'll tell you.
It's Steve Disaga.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to the NBA Finals. Oh,
I'm sorry that it hasn't started yet.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yeah, Vice tomorrow, tomorrow, put that out there. Yeah all right, Steve, Okay,
Steve and Steve Desager's car has just been keyed and
it says go next, go on the side.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
By the way, you were talking about the MVP announcement.
Two straight years, SGA from Oklahoma City has won NBA MVP.
If that's enough abbreviations for you, that's good. But every
retired player who has won consecutive MVPs is now in
the Hall of Fame, and shake Iljes Alexander has finished
top five for MVP now four years in a row.

(24:39):
So then you come into Game one of the West
Finals tonight and he had one basket in the first half,
one of five shooting. He'd gone two and a half
years with at least two field goals made in the
first half of every game. He'd played two hundred and
seventy straight games in the playoffs, including playoffs until tonight,

(24:59):
and Victor Wember and Yama and Company are now up
eighty seven seventy seven, nine minutes to go in Game
one at defending champion OKC WHM and Yama. When he
was on the court in the first half, his spurs
were a plus fifteen. They were a minus eight in
the five minutes with him off the court. Wem and
Yama has twenty five points fifteen rebounds in this one,

(25:21):
forty five percent shooting for the visitors, just forty percent
shooting for OKC, which was down seven to nothing quickly. Fortunately,
they do have Jalen Williams back in the lineup seventeen
points for him tonight. The thunder starter had missed their
previous six games with a stray and hamstring. Alex Carusoa
with twenty two off the bench. It's now Spurs eighty

(25:42):
seven to eighty at OKC with about eight minutes to
go in Game one. The East Final start Tuesday, Cleveland
at New York. In the regular season, the Knicks won
fifty three games. Cleveland won fifty two because New York
beat him two out of three during the season. That's
why tomorrow's game is at Matt Square Garden. The Cavs

(26:02):
just dominated a game seven at top seeded Detroit's in
the NBA. By the way, there's been at least one
game seven road winner in each of that last eleven seasons.
The Pelicans new head coach Jamal Moseley was just fired
by Orlando after five years there. WNBA Dallas won at
home easily against Washington ninety two sixty nine. There's a

(26:23):
game seven to and the second round of the NHL Playoffs,
and they've just started overtime. At Buffalo. The Sabers, who
had trailed to nothing, are tied with Montreal to two.
The New York Mets have gone nuts and extra innings
top of the twelfth. The lead is now eleven to
six at the Nationals. Still a rain delay in Minnesota,
with the Twins up three to nothing on the Houston

(26:45):
Astros in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two
Josh Bell home runs, Rocky six to three over the Rangers.
Bottom of the sixth. A's at Angels scoreless in the
bottom of the fourth. Angels barely scored it all over
the weekend against the Dodgers. I believe it was thirty
one to three. They were unscored in the three games.
Mariners have a Julio Rodriguez homer and lead one nothing
on the White Sox bottom of the third. Diamondbacks got

(27:08):
a first inning grand slam from Nolan Aronado now lead
the Giants five to two bottom of the third, and
the Padres lead the Dodgers one nothing bottom of the
fourth thanks to a first inning home run against LA
starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Tampa Bay is still three games over
the Yankees in the Al East. The Rays won sixteen
to six against Baltimore. Yankees held on seven to six

(27:28):
over Toronto. Victories for Boston and Miami. Philadelphia won its
fifth straight Milwaukee a nine to three winner at the Cubs,
beating shot Imonaga, and Cleveland sent Detroit to another loss,
eight to the final on FS one tonight the loss
to from Bervaldez. While the Guardians have won six of seven,
the Tigers have lost eleven of thirteen.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Tho, Jason Smith, Mike
Carmen Love and the Fox Sports Radio studios. So the
Toronto Ronde Rousi fight this weekend, talking about how excited
I was to see it, couldn't wait, love the intros,
everything about it. Awesome seeing them come in. We talked
about Gina Carano's journey and then it's over in seventeen

(28:11):
seconds and Ronda Rowsey goes in, tackles her, hits her
a couple of times, gets your a little woozy arm bar,
and it's over. As we talked about, not surprise the result, right,
not surprised that Ronda Rousey won. I said, if it
goes more than ninety seconds, I'll be stunned. Like this
should be Ronda Rousey in the first thirty seconds and
turns out thirteen seconds. She didn't need I'm just gonna

(28:33):
win this. It's just like old times, right, Ronald McGregor,
Ronnie Rowsey, Mike Tyson, all the heavyweights in there. But
that's the thing. Now is is again like and I
feel like I got taken in, right. I feel like
I'm a rube and I got taken in again because
I told you stuff like this. Nostalgia wise, I don't
really care for because it doesn't matter to me. I

(28:53):
don't need to see Mayweather fight again, or Paciow or
any of you know, anybody that's well past their prime,
especially when it's gonna be a money grab. And we
spent all that time and effort and money for Pacio
and may whether to just hold each other up for
a few rounds, a walk away and go hey, we
each made a lot of money. Now maywhere they made
a hundred million and Pacquiao made fifty minute whatever it was.
But seeing Manny Pacquiao running off, running out of the

(29:15):
ring with smiles. At the end of the fight, I said, Okay,
how much did he really exert himself? Right? I mean seriously,
this is where I felt, Okay, no, this is Rowsy
and Coronto and it was it just had that it
factor about it. And then after seventeen seconds, I said,
I got taken in again because it was obvious Ronda
to the point where I knew Ronda Rowsey would come

(29:37):
out like Ronda Rousey. She only knew one way to fight.
She's not gonna find a way to try to make
it a long fight. She's gonna get in there right away.
And this fight's gonna end early, and it will end
in Ronda Rowsey's favor because she's the much more season fighter.
She's younger, and and and Gina Carano had the last
year and a half of not just getting in shape
to fight, but losing one hundred pounds. It's hard to
prepare for a fight. Gina Corano looked like, you know what,

(30:00):
I'm just gonna go in. I'm gonna lose. I know
I'm gonna lose, but in the end, I'm gonna get paid.
And after seventeen seconds she's smiling in the ring, like
less than thirty seconds after the fight is over and
that's it. And I felt like, you know what, I
just got taken in again because right away you find
out Ronda Rowsey got two million and Gina Corno got
a million, and I'm like, okay, not quite the purse
that that Mayweather and uh and Pacio got, but still

(30:21):
I felt like I just watched another money grab and
I feel I feel like a rube because I got
taken in again by this, because that's exactly what it was. Well,
it's part of what we talked about on Friday leading
into it, and the only way I thought Coronto could
realistically win would maybe need to catch her right on
that initial drive and push through. And we saw the

(30:42):
video from their training rooms in the moments before. Right
here's the last look into the and it was literally
Rousy doing that move to her sparring partner. Fifteen seconds,
I think is what they timed it at. Yeah, as
the they're doing the voiceover and talking about yeah, and
that's that's what I would expect, that kind of move
and lo and behold moments later, that's what we got
for Gina Carano. Right she had the lawsuit against Disney

(31:05):
and all of that that went through that got settled,
trying to make her name again. This was a way
to get yourself thrust it back into the limelight. Ronda
Rousey one of the things that was hanging in the balance.
She's also got a bio pic that is in the
offing offer memoir. So this is a nice tie a
bow on it, isn't it the last time she's in

(31:26):
a ring? Yeah? Everybody get to see it. And I
went in seventeen seconds, a nice full circle moment to
when she was dominating the women's division and setting the
world on fire, going back when you were trying to
figure out, hey, would she get with the kid? That
kind of thing. So look, I like the nostalgia part
of it and all these circumstances because we get to

(31:49):
go back and look at the progression. Right, we go
back to the beginning, we go back through the trials,
we go back to the comebacks and all of those
kind of things, and if nothing else, we put ourselves
back in those years for a moment, and I think
there's some value to that. You don't want to live there, right,
you don't want to stay in those moments, but it's
good to have those snapshots of what was going on

(32:11):
when that fight went down, the year and the month, whatever,
whatever's going on in your personal life and in the
greater sporting universe, and then you get back to reality.
And this puts you back to reality of she's finishing
her career, Rousey's saying, hey, I got one more w
and Corodo's saying, look at me, I'm ready for Hollywood again.
All that's good, right, we made up. And if you

(32:32):
feel like you got got it's okay. It's like every
other relationship, you get burned. You got to get back
on that horse, buddy, and find the next bit of
nostalgia to cling to. What do you got, Frostburg, Did
you really think Jake Paul was gonna be honest with
the fighter? Come on, well he wasn't.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
He didn't get the biggest money grabs since the last
biggest money.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Get in the Hexagon, So that wasn't you know. But
all of these are the same, the same drill. It's
a made for TV ev It's just this side again.
I saw that guy's name on it. I was like sighing,
I got sucked. I don't know, I just got sucked in.
This is how you get sucked in blast? I know,
I know sucked game. I feel yeah game. Hey, hey listen, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,

(33:17):
you are fear watching James Harden highlights. I have I
have no time for that because I have the Eastern
Conference Finals tomorrow. I have Nixon fourth starting to.

Speaker 5 (33:25):
Most as fixed as Calves Pistons was yesterday.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
You saw they ran an ad Calves Nicks. They did,
they did before. Yeah, I'm wait they were right. I'm
waiting for the I'm waiting for the Knicks. Oh did
I tell you want to know something? You want to
know something? Ready, guys, ready for this Long Island rail Real.
By the way, Long Island Railroad went on strike today?
Yeah they did. Hey l R R and strike. Big
story today, right l A r R is on strike?

(33:49):
Last time Long Island Railroad went on strike? What happened
nineteen ninety four? OJ? Who was in the NBA finals
in nineteen ninety That is true? OJ did it that year?
Go New York? Hey, Oh to Mark Furman too soon
man running? Yeah? Mark Furman he died, Yeah he died.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
Today running Calves Knicks before the game starts the next.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Level, Go New York, Go to how much money do
you think came in after that ad? That ad ran
into the betting hell.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
Glorious. This is going to be for all of us
when they get swept by James Harden.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Not happening, man, that is not happening. Not happen except
to a guy an angel hat Nixon. What did I
tell you?

Speaker 2 (34:26):
I told you the caves are gonna wait.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
I really thought Harden would be better. But shaming Donovan
Mitchell while everybody else went after James Harden seemed to
work out for me. Yeah, not a great look. Not
a great look. Uh So we got more NBA on
the way eighty nine eighty two, a seven point Spurs lead,
six minutes left to go. We got more on this,
We got the play of the day, and I have
the best story of the weekend by fall really come right.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My bes
friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
That is not John Cena.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Spurs trying to hold on ninety one eighty six, four
and a half to go in the fourth quarter, Barn
Burder a Game one Spurs playing without the Aaron Fox.
So far they've been just fine. Meanwhile, Canadians and the
Sabers Game seven of the Eastern Conference Semifinal spot against
the Carolina Hurricanes in the offing for whoever comes up

(35:40):
with the game winning goal in overtime, and right now
it is absolute insanity in Buffalo. In overtime they had
ten thousand of those beer Sabers ready to go tonight hand.
But before we get to that, we have the Play
of the day, the Play Day, of course, brought to
you by tire Reck for over forty years, tire Rack's
been open customers find the right tires for how, what
and where they drive. Shipped fast and free, backed by

(36:02):
free Road, has a protection with convenient installation options like
mobile tire installation tirerack dot Com. He is the way
tire buying should be well and in thirty four minutes
you have a stat line of twenty five, sixteen and three.
Doesn't matter if the game is over, Wemby, you get
to be the player of the day.

Speaker 6 (36:20):
Assle the basketball in the WHOA go right side now
Crusoe picking him up spots when Minyo and he swams
it down of the head of hol Grin inside and
Victor wen Minyaba has got a first half double double.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Now Spurs Radio on the call, Now Frostburg, Why Wemby
for the play of the day. Well, i've seen the
ad Oh, okay, okay, the okay, very.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
Good seeing the Spurs in the final, the Spurs in
the finals.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Ad. Whoa, I thought you meant, like you know, Spur
game two, Spurs with a one nothing lead. I didn't
know that. Oh, I'm not wasting any time with that. Yeah,
fresh and salty. After losing the MVP voting and the
rivalry with Chet to this point, Wemby on a mission.
How about we have an Eastern Conference finals in hockey?
You got a Caroline Hurricanes and who say I.

Speaker 5 (37:05):
Got the Candians in the final?

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Whoa, we got the advanced press joking? No, I see
what you did. That was straight past and he left
the s off for saying again, I'll tell you what
I told you two and a half weeks ago. If
it's not the Hurricanes and the Avalanche and the Stanley
Cup finals, something is wrong. Told you that, all right?
If you've seen it, and you've seen the Hurricanes in it,
that's great. If you've not, we got to talk. We

(37:30):
gotta talk here. Uh so you've not seen the Calves
in the finals ad? You've just seen a Calves Nicks ad?
Right so far? Okay, all right, middle of Game one mix.
Now he's been staring down the television monitor, just waiting
with baited breath for that next ad to advertise not

(37:50):
tomorrow's game, but the next series. The graphic already having
been built. There's a picture of Alex Caruso. So again,
we'll have more on this coming up in a few minutes.
I'm sure in ten minutes will be breaking down Game
one again. Is it gonna be the Spurs holding on
the Canadis. Meanwhile, speaking of breaking it down, Frostburg, if

(38:10):
you did see an ad for the hosts finals, we
now know who the Carolina Hurricanes will play, and it
is the team that I said five minutes ago. If
I have to pick between the Sabers and the Canadians,
I think I'd rather play the Canadians. I'm going to
get my wish. The Canadians in overtime beat the Sabers

(38:32):
three to two. Oh Man, guys are throwing, throwing uniforms
and throwing away it is some kind of green right now.
Sticks are breaking on the ice, The sabers are extremely
They just look like a thousand yard stair right now.
The Canadians celebrating on the ice again a final in overtime.

(38:52):
Montreal wins it three to two. So now we know
the final four. In the NHL, we had the Golden
Knights and the Avalanche. They'll start when's and then Thursday
we'll get the Eastern Conference final. The Carolina Hurricanes end
the Montreal Canadians. Yeah, watching the replay as it flows in,
I mean, just not a lot of defensive pressure as

(39:12):
they skated into the zone. Able to get it straight
on net. Yeah, I can't tell if it got deflected
on the way in New hook with the shot. No,
it just looks like it was a flutterball. Just a flutterball.
Looks like it just fluttered between buy Yeah, but between
his between his glove and his pad. Uh yeah, just
a flutterball that goes between the glove and the pad
and that wins it. How off traffic in front to

(39:34):
obscure the vision just a little bit, and how many
times do you hear? You know, you get to overtime
and it's one of those crazy fluky goals that decides
the Stanley Cup. Always say overall with thumb right we
you know you coached your daughter's soccer team. What are
you doing? Stop playing with the ball? Yeah, eighteen passes
is like a long for tracted drive in the NFL.
Eventually something bad is gonna happen. Just put the ball

(39:55):
on net. That and that and that's the one with
the puck on net. That's one thing I always say this.
I said, you know what the prettiest site is. You know,
you go around here, Oh, make it a play. The
prettiest site is the goalie picking the ball out of
the back of the net. The prettiest site is the
puck hitting the back of the net and you celebrate.
I don't doesn't Matt doesn't need to be a great play.
It could be the biggest of garbage goals. But this
the the urgency to get a shot on goal and

(40:18):
get the puck in the net. I mean that's what
you saw right here. I mean, new hook. This was
a I mean, it's got seven goals so far in
the play. I having a really good playoff, but this
is one of those just I don't think he even
got it. I think it came off as stick funny
and you would see it right off. It's just it's
just just floating up and and and again. You see
that sweet spot between the between the glove and the
and the pad. And now it's the Canadians going on. Yeah,

(40:40):
it's like when the villains were trapped in that that
film in Superman two and they're floating in the prism,
floating and it's rotating end over end and they're making
faces and whatever before it gets shattered in they're release
same thing here, it gets released into the back of
the net. We got gloves flying saltiness. I mean that
that thousand yards stare because once again unable to take

(41:04):
care of business on home ice this time. Well, and
you think about the journey of Terrence stamp Right. He
gets you know, he gets exiled to space, he comes back,
then he gets exiled again, then he comes back as
chancellor Forlorum, and what happens he gets exiled after that,
Like that's been this whole that was his whole career. Well,
in between that, he also sang one hell of a
rendition of Billie Joel's Lullaby in a song back of exiled,

(41:27):
the back of exile, back of exile. Let me do it.
It's my entire career. I'm back now, I'm gone. I'm back.
I'm gone. I'm back, I'm gone. Uh So, coming up
next again, I promised the best story of the weekend. Plus,
are we talking about Wemby and the Spurs or is
it a big comeback for the Thunder? It is a
two point game with two minutes left to go, the

(41:47):
Spurs trying to hold on ninety four ninety two. Boy,
do we have something coming up next? Right here? Jason
and Mike Fox, Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Wow, that's all you

(42:12):
can say right now. Seven ten second left in overtime,
and it looks like we're going to double overtime. This
is what I call a blanket show. One oh eight
apiece because Victor Webbin Yama hits what's basically a logo
three to tie the game at one oh eight. Now,

(42:36):
this has been the possession before. Wemby tried to keep
it alive by himself. He couldn't, ball was knocked out
of bounds. It looked like he was trying to keep
it there Caruso was able to throw it out of
bounds off of him. Wenby fought off three players and
still almost kept the possession. He was really mad. You
can tell that this is pissed Wemby right, and pissed
Wemby's a bad Wemby comes down early in the shot clock.

(42:59):
The next presi Eshion down three with less than thirty
seconds left to go, and again his best Damian Lillard impression.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
Castle to Wemby, rising deep three weewe.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
Victor Webbanyama six feet behind the line ties the game.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
What O eight? He got the wei wi in there,
Victor Wenbanyama w Wi. This was officially way officially a
twenty seven footer by Wemby, but it looked like it
was way longer than that. It's like when you see
that home run was like five hundred and eighty feet. No,

(43:37):
officially it was five oh five. No, no, no, I
was longer than that twenty seven feet, but it looked
like it was about a thirty footer because again he
was a little bit to the left. If he was
in this, if he was in the center of the court,
it looked like he would have actually been on the
Oklahoma City logo. It's all about the estimated delivery. And
as we tell this tale, as years go on, it'll

(43:59):
be come a thirty five foot you know, right, because
I think Steph Curry gets three feet added on because
he's short and has to heave it whereas he's kind
of reaching over. Yeah, so I think I think a
couple of years it's gonna be more. Remember when Wemby
had that when he was under his own basket and
he chucked it all the way down. That's how it's
gonna go. It was amazing. Right then he'd pull up

(44:22):
three from where he did. I'm like, again, I like
my my seven foot plus in the low post. But
if they can do that too, damn, you're screwed. But
look I got something for you right now for Wemby
top that you see this logo three that ties the game,
that sends it to double over time. And it's fortunate

(44:46):
enough in sports when we get to see the greatest,
if not the greatest player of all time play, right,
if it happens to fall in the time when you're alive,
you get to see it. We're seeing it right now
with Shoheo Tani in Major League baseball baseball player any
of us have ever seen. No one could pitch hit
like him. What he's doing rewriting the record book every

(45:07):
single day. No one's like this. He's the best player
any of us have ever seen. And you can argue
that he's the best player we have ever seen. It's
almost time, and right now it is time to look
at Wemby the same way that he's a one of one,
right man. Wenby's still young enough in his career. He
has not done as much yet to say, oh, it's
he the greatest basketball player.

Speaker 6 (45:27):
Now.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
Look, we got the Jordan Lebron, Bill Russell, all this,
but it's time to treat Wemby like he is Otani.
He is one of one. What we're seeing that he
can do. I mean, you see a center, You got
a guy seven to five who's saying, give me the ball.
I'm taking a heat check three from thirty feet out.
Nobody else can do that, man Like, It's one thing
to see Lillard do it, Okay, Lillard doing it, that's great, Okay,

(45:49):
well sgaya to see Wemby do something like that, it's
time to understand he is that one of one. He
is not just boy. Look at what you do and
your jaw drops. You can see there. Every time he
does something on the floor, it just you shake your
head and go, I've never seen anything like that before
in my life. He is one of one like Otani. Now,

(46:09):
obviously we haven't seen any of the footage or we've
got very sparse footage when we go back to the
days of will To and Russell and some of their
battles and all of that going back fifty years. But
you watch this and it's how he affects things on
both ends of the court, and we go back some

(46:30):
of that a chem Elaijuan, but not with the same distance. Right,
It wasn't stepping out for three point shots, but you know,
was a very good shooting center while still being a
dominant defensive player. You remember that from the ninety four finals, Yeah,
and then gone down the way and so many through
the years. You know, Shaq couldn't hit a free throw,

(46:53):
certainly had no jump shot. But you talk about the
disruptive and destructive force that he was watching when bin
Nyama fl low on both ends of the court. I
don't want to be victim to hyperbole, but it's awful
hard because we watched that three pointer, and none of
what we said off air would have been usable. Both
of us had to be bleeped. It's like, because right

(47:14):
away you're you're in the stand screaming along with what
you just watched, which is why the announcer as he
did the we we almost like, all right, is he
trying to cover himself up from saying what he really
wants to. And that's the thing is that we've seen
Wemby make amazing plays, right. We've seen but at being
seven five, maybe he's taller now, maybe he's seven nine,

(47:34):
maybe he's eight feet tall. We've seen him make big
plays defensively. We've seen him hit step back in at threes.
We've seen him make big plays down low. We've seen
him do all of these things right, and it's a
wonder to see it. But that play, specifically, I'm stopping
and I'm tape taking a big heat check three that
that puts I'm mad and give me the ball from

(47:56):
here a seven five center. It's a shot like that.
That's the moment. I think that's the one for even
the most staunchest of believers that Okay, Wemby's just a
big guy. Even the most staunchest of non believers have
to say, we are seeing something that Yannis was never
able to do, as good as as the seven footers,
as talented as they've ever been in their career, as

(48:17):
dominant as Shaquille O'Neil was, We've never seen anything like this,
and that three, that's the such a big head shake
moment where you have to just admit to yourself, this
is greatness, unlike what I've seen. Unlike what I've seen,
this is great Yeah, because you got to celebrate the
greatness of what Jokich has been clearly not the same defender,

(48:38):
but offensively doing a lot of crazy ass stuff with
that body type and from once he came right, he
was not the chosen one. He was the guy drafted
during a Taco bell ad in the second second round
of the draft, okay, Whereas Wemby has been the chosen
one for a while, and then it becomes the old
let's pray to the basketball gods that we get to

(49:00):
see this come to fruition and that he's healthy. And
I would argue the three was something the couple the
sequence he's had the last couple of times down even better, right,
A driving dunk, and then on the ensuing possession from
ok see, he gets a rebound, looks around and instead
of finding Castle, finding anybody else to bring the ball up,

(49:21):
just says, the hell with it, I'll do it myself,
drives into the lane to where he's ultimately filed and
put to the line again. So just an insane sequence.
You know. The thing is that possession you talked about
with Wemby. He makes the three the next time down,
gets the ball behind the arc, goes up like he's
gonna shoot the three, and of course the defender's got
to close on him because you know, the dude just
made one from thirty feet out and you know Wemby

(49:45):
two steps, that's a dunk. Two steps, he takes one dribble,
two steps and he's in for an easy dunk. Like
this is not even like what it's an easy dunk
for Wemby, and it's and it's it's any anything the
guy can do, he does. And again, because it's weird
because he's one, he's one of one. Is what this

(50:05):
looks like right now to me? And again, I'm prisoner
of them, firmly, I'm prison of the moment right now
with Wemby in this game, it's one twelve to one
oh eight with two and a half to go in
double over, right against the Knicks. Is that when Michael
first ascended to winning championships, right, nobody thought that Jordan

(50:25):
was going to become the player and the absolute winner.
That he was six or six in the NBA finals,
interrupted only by his retirement, and he was for his
first few years in the league. He was an incredible scorer,
but he got sent home in the playoffs because the
team around him wasn't great and he was maybe a
better version of Dominique Wilkins. Right, this guy can score

(50:46):
a ton of points. He's got sixty point games. But
in the end, yeah, he's a one man show. But
look at the teams around him, right, the Pistons are
going to beat him. The other teams in the East,
the Celtics are going to beat him. He's a one
man show. And then he finally gets to the to
the finals and it's the Lakers, and you're like, Okay,
this is where the Lakers are gonna show him whose boss, right,

(51:06):
this is where this is where we understand. Okay, it's great.
They finally beat the Pistons, right, because the Pistons beat
him the year before. Then they beat the Pistons. Get that.
That's great, but this is still showtime Lakers, and the
Lakers get a championship. Yeah, Jordan has been great, but
this and what happens, it's got to be the Shoes.
It's the Bulls and five and that starts the the
Michael Jordan era in the NBA. And I almost feel

(51:30):
like this is kind of a minor version of it,
where yeah, Wemby's great, Webby's great, but here are the champs,
here's the thunder SGA now newly minted at least by
Shams back to back MVP. This is the best team
in the NBA this year, and you're seeing this game
with Wemby where it is becoming okay, now it's really
Wemby's world and SGA has now been a supporting player

(51:51):
in this drama most of the game here, and it's
just it's it's the it's the game where people are
gonna remember this is where Wemby became that guy, whether
you're thought he was the best, coming in where you
thought he was becoming the best, Like this feels like
that kind of moment for Wimby. Well, he's still pissed
he didn't win the MVP twenty four hours ago on Prime.
So given the opportunity in front of a large NBC

(52:13):
and Peacock audience, said my turn, and once after. You
know what's funny is you mentioned the Bulls beating the
Lakers all these years later. You know what it's always well,
he ran over some old Lakers team. Yeah, Johnson had
just thrown thirty two. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, what's not
the old Lakers all right? Careem Camp was a little older. Yeah,
but these guys weren't exactly you know, they were going

(52:37):
into that series like this was gonna be the Lakers
were gonna And I still vividly remember the commercial after
it ended. You know, the shoes, the shoes, the air
Jordan commercials and Diane Cannon who was she and Jack
Nicholson were the biggest Laker fans, like on TV all
the time. Dan kind of was celebrated. Yeah, and uh,
I remember the last shot of the commercial with all
these shots in the NBA Finals and it's Diane Cannon

(52:59):
just sitting in the stand with a Laker pomp. Pom's
going they had to be the shoes like that was
the end of it. That was the birth, the real
birth of the Jordan era in the NBA was now
he's not just a regular season guy that's gonna give
us these these headlines and these great performances. Now whoa,
Now he just won the title, and now it's what
can't he accomplish? Right? We still thought we could put

(53:21):
him in the box a little bit where, yeah, he's Jordan,
but we've seen these great teams, great teams beat Bay
great players. No, no, not anymore, and Jordan was able
to you know, that was the first of three in
a row for the for the Bulls winning it, and
I kind of again, I kind of feel like this
ascension of the Spurs like has gone so fast this
year because you remember, I don't want to, you know,
I don't like to remind people this too much because

(53:42):
you know, but I did pick the Spurs to go
to the NBA Finals before the season started. I said,
Wenby's gonna become the best player in the league. It's
gonna happen this year. Don't be surprised. And all of
a sudden, this Spurs getting great. They were really good
all year, but then that last month when you know,
basically the Thunders on cruise control. This spur showed you
we're hitting that next level. We are deep. We have

(54:03):
the players already around Wenby right like Dylan Harper is
starting tonight for dearon Fox. And despite the turnovers in
the backcourt, which is really what's keeping the Thunder in
this game, their support players have played extremely well and
Wenby now is the cherry on top of the Sunday. Yeah,
you've got six guys in double figures, Johnson off the bench,
the sixth man of the year, giving him some lift

(54:24):
as well. But everything you said about wembin Yama, it's
just been absurd.
