Speaker 2 (00:21):
This is the best of the Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
On it if you will, another beautiful night here Fox
Sports Radio. As we get things underway, a wild and
wooly sports evening. You just say the game is drunk.
We can do that to a lot of sporting events
over the last forty eight seventy two hours, but certainly
seemingly every game of the Stanley Cup Final treats us

(00:52):
to absolute chaos. Three to three, end of the second period,
after the early blitz from Carolina, Vegas responds, Welcome in.
It's another edition the Jason Smith Show with me and
Mike Carmen. There's no Jason Smith tonight, Little under the Weather. No,
he's not just sad that the Knicks loss yet.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
I don't believe that. I don't believe that.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
I mean, I'm not saying it's not part of it.
I don't believe a pie charts. He held himself together
on air pretty well, no question about it. We dissected it,
sliced and diced it as only we can live, and
in living color, no waiting for the which way the
wind blows. We break it down as we do. But yes,

(01:34):
Smith out, ill send them best wishes at how about
a fresca? The disembodied voice that you heard interrupting me is,
of course the stinking genius himself, Arnie Spaniard. So as
the boss sent me a note earlier saying, hey, Jason's out,
so you get to try to make another Knicks fan ill,
I guess I have to just torment you for four hours.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
That Why did you did you see my tweet?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
A billion things? I keep seeing your damn dog every
eight minutes.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
No, you didn't see the one I said about work.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
You didn't see that one?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
No, what about it?

Speaker 5 (02:12):
Earlier in the day I said, thank goodness, I don't
have to work today because I would have called in sick.
Oh and the boss saw that, and this is my
punishment going I think we watch you to work today,
and now he goes, we watch it to be on
air when the Knicks lose.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
So you're gonna work Saturday too.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Oh good, So you got a Saturday shift. That's good.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
That's good.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
They think they're gonna torture me because the Knicks are
gonna lose and that's not going to happen.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, since you made it very clear you wouldn't pay
dime one to go see your teeth. That's not true.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
That's not true.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, I mean that's all it's been, is the constant
complaining about taking it.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
From my cars like you.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Well, no, no, no, here's the thing. All right, let's
just do this. Fine, your check will not clear. I'll
go to Steve Desager.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
I'll be like Seinfeld. I'll do four hours at nothing.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Yep. We still laughed a lot, so in this case,
we just need an image of you so we could
laugh at you. Yeah, exactly, slash with you. Whatever. But
let me just do the thesis statement here, right, because
it's been a lot of handwringing. We'll get into the
World Cup tickets obviously at the garden and the prices.
You know, every year we do this with the Super Bowl.
Oh my god, I can't believe how expensive it is

(03:31):
with the World Cup. It's on us soil. Oh my god,
Look how expensive tickets are. It's a once in a
lifetime experience. Go or don't. Okay, That's all I can
say to you. I'm not saying it's not expensive. I'm
not saying there's not a lot of concessions, twists, turns,
planning and everything else that needs to happen to go

(03:52):
to set events. But the amount of coverage this gets
my god. I want a guy standing behind me a
violin for crying out loud.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
You don't get it, You don't what do you mean?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
I don't get it?

Speaker 5 (04:04):
You know you don't get it because I don't think
you quite understand. We're actually bigger fans than you guys
are out there.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Oh is that then? Me and my Chicago people were
bigger fans. We're known as just Johnny come lately.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
We're bigger fans than you and all the listeners too.
I want you to I want you to know that.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Well, I mean, and as soon as you can become
antagonistic towards our listeners. No, by all means.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
Please, It's true because a loss will stick with me,
uh for fifty years. You guys can shrug it off
like it's no big thing and laugh about it and
and just kind of go no big deal with me.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
It's like it it just destroys my soul.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
And if the Knicks, let me tell you something, if
the Nicks somehow lose this series, I'll be so distraught.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I'm not kidding around.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
I mean, I I don't know how I could possibly
work it. Look, I'm stumbling just even thinking about the
possibility of the Nicks losing this this series. I I
can't even talk i'bout It's like my throat is getting
all tight at off, Buffy, I may have to go
to the hospital.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
It's getting the.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Go to anaphylactic shock over the thought of another Knicks
loss after fifty three years of futility.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
You know, you don't get it. It's been so long.
My team's never win.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
Okay, the Mets haven't won since eighty six.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Do we have a violin we can play in the
back nick or something.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
My Wildcats.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
My Wildcats won in basketball, but my team's never win.
I'm not like the Chief fans or the Patriot fans.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Guess on guess what Arnie. Most fan bases aren't like
what the Warriors did, what the Patriots did, what the
Chiefs have done. It is one and done over a
course of several decades. Did you got jump? Who's done
that too?

Speaker 6 (05:56):
Pal?

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Wait? Did you match up on the Laker bandwagon? Did
you not do the on come on stopping stuff?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I Lak band had the bulls?

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Did you not? You had the bulls?

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Did you not as your gun? Yeah that's not. Oh
my god, I've lived another life since.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
I would die for a run like that.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Of course you would. I would die. We want more.
We're fans were insatiable. It's like going to the trough.
I want more. You're the guy that complains at it
all that you can eat restaurant that kick his ass
out after he said I wasn't done.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
I was just about to say, you've been eating for
three hours.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Get the hell out.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Somebody else wants to eat, somebody else wants to get
to the table.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
That's why they put us an hour glass or timer
on you.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
What was the comedian that said you've been here four
hour get out of here?

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Might be an old Johnnett.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Yeah that's who it is.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Yeah, that's who it is but enough, man, You don't
understand what it's like when your team's never.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Ever Yeah, year Title two, you know, the year that
ESPN does graphics and they get it wrong. You They
put the Houston Astros up as the winner. You want
to tell me about futility, Look the hell out here?

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Look who's crying? You've won with the White Sox, You've
won with the black.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
We want a couple with the black.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
Sure, you have won with the Bears with the balls.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Although I did have purple rain in the rain when
has been lost to Peyton Manning.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
This is why I'm not allowed in the studio because
I would get violent on you.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Right now, I say, what are you talking about? What
are you? What are you talking about that you're.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Trying to bring hands on me. My team's gonna put
that sweat bands on for me.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
This is why you don't get it when I tell
you my teams don't even get to the finals.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
I'm a Dolphin fan.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
We haven't won a playoff game playoffs in like twenty
six years. Enough, it's enough?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Is enough?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Started with a discussion about ticket prices and immediately went
into the woe is Arnie part of things. You know,
because ingenious.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
One, because the real fans want to be at the
games and they can't go. You know, I was in
Dallas when they opened up the new stadium, and those
aren't the real fans.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
They would I.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Mean those hundred thousand people that go into that place,
you know in Arlington, they can't find a seat.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yeah, the ones that even stand, those aren't even the
real fans.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
They can't afford the go. They don't want to pay
the one.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Hundred dollars twenty five hours.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
And you and and shame on you, Mike Harmon, You're
gonna talk it to the microphone and tell everybody go
to the game, spend ten G a ticket, twenty G
for you and your son and go to the game.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Would say, like everything in our global shame on you.
Not everything is for you. And the most of the
people that are complaining about this are like the people
that are complaining that the Bears may move to Indiana
maybe the big political boondoggle and cash grap uh, they've
never stepped foot and sold your field, or the people

(09:01):
that complain about how miserable Los Angeles are new think
of the future. The loudest people are people that have
never been in either of those cities. Think of the
kids that Oh, think of the children. I'll go George
carling On, you think of the children? They taking the children?
Blank the children?

Speaker 4 (09:21):
Uh, you know.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, we're off in pacing Fox Sports Radio. Welcome in,
you know the people.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
I don't know if there's another fan base that can
feel what I'm feeling.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Was.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
I have to think that somewhere along the line, you
guys have had winners.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Somewhere along the line. No football, baseball.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
You've been around long enough to have seen a win.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Just the medicine eighty six?

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Are you're telling me you weren't alive and well in
seventy three because Sander's calling you a liar from.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
His eyes desk. I was nine years old for crying
out loud.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
But you remember it? No, I don't know, but I
mean the Bear the Bears was eighty five. I was remember,
but I was in the leg brace because broken in half.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
It was so long ago.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
I give me something close, something that that's a decades away.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
I'm not diminishing that, but it's it's a different space.
It's a different conversation than than where we began this thing.
But I appreciate that We're now going into the heart
and stule. When I've got you on the psychiatrist, count somebody.
Then about three hours and forty five minutes.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
Somebody tweeted to say, try being a Clipper and a
Falcon fan.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
Nobody's a Clipper and a Falcon.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
No, no, no, or just put the oar. Come on, don't
be disingenuous like that. You know what they were trying
to say. We could go fan base to fan base.
You've got tails of woes, bring them in. I had
swollen dome at you can send them.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
You're even at Northwestern. When did you not?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
What did they win? They went to the Rose Bowl
and got their.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Asses kicked, So you at least went to the Rose.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Great man Keyshawn Johnson ran off over you had. Then
I went down to the Sitters Bowl, and you know
what I did. I watched Peyton Manning and Peerless Price
run amuck.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
But at least you had that.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Though it was great, it was fun because it was different. Likewise,
this is different. So like I always say, find your wins.
You got to the NBA Finals, the Sea's partied, No,
you played good basketball, and now you have a two
to one lead. And if we go full Kenny Atkinson,
you really should have down either two win or three

(11:28):
to zero.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
That's like giving me a steak for dinner and giving
me no silverware to eat it with.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
What is wrong with you? What do you mean? I
made it to the finals, So.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Put your hands behind your head and chow down.

Speaker 8 (11:38):
Maybe let's go give me some silver You don't need
the silverware, You don't need any of that's just pick
it up with their bare hands like a barbarying.

Speaker 5 (11:49):
You are like it's starting away, pal gosh, gosh. I
just I know those people out there going no damn
right on you.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
You have no tell him, has no idea. And you know,
I'm walking around.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
I see the New Yorkers with their New York T
shirts and they're just hey, everybody talking about you know
when they see you in the streets, go New York.
I I just I gotta tell you. I don't see
any way they lose their next game.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
We'll talk about that as we go on. We got
plenty of time to predict future games and whatever. But
you know the vibe of New York fan. I mean,
you bought into Dan Housen, so good for you.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
I don't even know what that was. When you were
texting me, I'm like, who, what is the WWE guy
that I have no idea? What is that the guy
that says step into a slim gym.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
No, he's been dead for fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Well, I see, I had no idea any.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Of the macho man savages right right when you were
a former baseball player, by the way, you prospect for
the Saint Louis Cardinals.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
You were texting me, I'm like, I didn't, I had
no idea what you were talking about.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
You bought the sure, no, my wife, but okay, so
your wife did the right the only one that good
for you?

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Yes, good for you.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
You bought into what is one of the greatest bits
in recent memory.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Okay, what do you want to fill me in on?

Speaker 3 (13:04):
This guy's gotten so much run Dan Housen, Right, So
he's been on the indie circuit for a long time.
Finally they tease it. They bring him up to the
big leagues of the WWE, and he's a throwback to
some of the comedy and chaos that you had back
in the eighties, Saturday Night's main event which exists now,
and all of those things, but kind of a comedic
guy with his you know, very evil, very nice and

(13:27):
he loves human moneies, so it basically becomes bribe me
and I will curse a sports team.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
For you again.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
And he does cameos and the whole thing. So he's
got a thing against the Miz and it was funny, right,
Mike the Miz who is on a reality show on
MTV all those years ago and has been with the
w WE forever, and he's a great ambassador and brings
along young talent, but he's a huge Cavaliers fan. So
for that series, it became a very real thing that
they played out and got a lot of run because

(13:55):
of the partnership with ESPN to where he started showing
up and torment Steven A. Smith, who's a great I
didn't know that. Yeah, no, they've they've given this so
much run. And he he's funny as hell and committed
to the bit. People have bought in and the merchandizing. Look,
he went from being the indie guy to getting called

(14:18):
up to being the number two merch guy in WWE
almost instantly because the bit is so good. The writers
and he and everybody buys in on a week to
week basis, that it's just NonStop chaos and hilarity of
all right, how do we top ourselves?

Speaker 5 (14:35):
My wife was in Manhattan and went to the NBA
store and got it there that she got into the
actual NBA store in Manhattan.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
See as there's.

Speaker 5 (14:44):
Plenty of people on the streets selling New York shirts.
I told her to go to the streets.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Let's go, well, go get your either knockouts or well
some bootlegs, some maybe.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Just then and I c ks or something.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Well, but you also, you know, remember a lot of
concerts venues. The people selling you the shirts in the
parking lot are just making sure that while they couldn't
get you for fifty inside, maybe they get you for
twenty leaving.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Yeah, exactly what do you got? All right?

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Cool here? Because the shirt costs about a buck and
a half. He ain't paying the guy hustling very much either.
All Right, we got plenty. We're just getting warmed up.
We'll keep our finger on the pulse of Arnie Spaniards
sends thoughts and prayers. Send us your sports misery as well.
We want to be there with you at Swollen do
at Stinking Genius One at Fox Sports Radio will continue

(15:33):
to pray for Arnie as we go on, but as
we continue the officiating after Game three certainly under fire.
We'll talk about that coming up next.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Hey, welcome back in It's Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith
Show with me and Mike Harmon. There is no Jason
Smith tonight. It instead the Legend. You hear him Sunday
nights alongside Chris Plank three hours of merriment and well
chaos pretty much often steered by the yellow legal peg
writing Arnie Spaniard at stake and genius one where you

(16:51):
find him in the Twitter.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
No, Colin uses a yellow yellow lego pegs. He yes,
he does.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
How about that? Does he use the big one or
the little one?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I don't know. You see now you're not making fun
of it anymore, huh.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I mean, I'm moderately intrigued enough for the filibustering and
the segmentation, because you know it wasn't I didn't even
know you were with me this evening, and I'd already
seen the yellow pad. That's just like that. I got
those texts bang bang bang as I woke up from my.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
Nap.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Well, I mean a lot of it, says Ernie this,
Ernie that. I mean, it's a lot of me, me, me, me, me,
you know very much the old Toby Keith song. I
want to talk about me, I want to talk about
my that's you. I like talking about you. You you usually,
but occasionally, Hey, I want to talk about me, except
it's usually all about you. But right now we're going

(17:45):
to turn our attention to the guest. Outline. The music
means one man. He's multifaceted, multi cultured, Man of the World,
World Cup, this week, Stanley Cup Final and of course
major League Baseball. It's John Paul Morosi at John Morosi
in the twitters, j O n mr Os. I leave

(18:08):
out the h because Moms said, so MLB Network, you
catch him there, but joins us each and every week,
JP blessed as always to welcome you in. I got
Arnie in for Jason, another suffering Knicks fan after last night.

Speaker 6 (18:23):
Well, Mike and Arnie, good evening. So many different ways
that we can start this conversation, but Mike, Arnie, do
I have to go right to the South Side and
the Chicago White Sox a win tonight, and Arnie, you're
worked on this show with a great White Sox fan

(18:44):
and the native of the south Side and Mike Harmon. Mike,
I am beginning to believe it's it's early June. I
believe that the south Siders now have full permission to.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Believe six' five win today over those front and run
in forty five and twenty Two Atlanta. Braves No amrikami
on the DL il these days for a. While vargas
with another home, Run montgomery with a. HOMER i, mean
we've we've got chaos on The south side Of, chicago
and it's a beautiful.

Speaker 6 (19:18):
Thing we. Do and this is as we talk about
the way that The Stanley Cup finals are wrapping, up
and of course THE nba finals as. Well baseball were
still early. Days and The American, league my, friends if
you are a fan of An American league, team with
the possible exception of The angels and probably The Red,

(19:42):
sox this is the land of opportunity right now twenty twenty.
Six even a team like The, tigers which has struggled so.
Mightily and we were already a week ago just talking
about what the rest what the best prospect package would
be for a t. School, well they're still on the,

(20:02):
race and by the, way they're about to get teach
school back And Casey mize. Back so, uh this is
the kind of a year where everyone in The American
league thinks they're in. It and if you are going
to be so bold as to decide that you're going
to be a, seller like maybe The San Francisco, giants
you could do some pretty good, work because this is

(20:24):
going to be a seller's market given all the teams
that believe they are in the.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
Hunt you, know by the, WAY, JP i know you
guys Are chicago, guys BUT i just wanted you to
know THAT i lived In northbrook for three.

Speaker 4 (20:35):

Speaker 5 (20:38):
The newlywed game For Chicago Couples Famoue Chicago couples, so
and one of the questions Was beth Was arnie is
he A South sider Or North? Sider And i'm neither.
One i'm a Met so she had the guests right
on that. One SO i just just wanted to know THAT.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Jp that is.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
AWESOME i love that. Detail chicago is one of those
cities that you, KNOW i never have lived, there But
i've covered a lot of baseball. There AND i was
the summer of two thousand and. THREE i was covering
The Midwest league In West michigan and my sports Editor Mary,
olmer sent me over To Wrigley field to cover a

(21:20):

summer of two thousand and, three AND i looked out
at that beautiful ballpark AND i said to, MYSELF i
think this is gonna be my. JOB i have an,
idea this is WHAT i want to do for a.
Living so at that, point there was a little bit
of uncertainty of exactly what my calling. Was but looking

(21:42):

ballparks whether It's, burlington whether It's, er whether It's Quebec,
city Le capital To Quebec, city all those beautiful little
venues there in The northeast up Into quebec And. Canada

(22:29):
love that level of, Baseball.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Look at that level of excitement all. Across we had
that Cool Paul skien story right going and visiting the little.
Leaguers we'll get into that a little more as we.
Go but also a guy still playing despite his advanced
years like a little kid with hit number twenty five
hundred today talking About Freddy freeman of The. Dodgers it

(22:53):
was our play of the DAY jp twelve to three
to the, final that nine run inning that never seemed
to end as they take down The. Pirates but For Freddie,
freeman The Miles stone and we talk longevity and history
and what it takes to get to that kind of.
Level just an incredible career and can we dare reach

(23:15):
for three? Thousand do you think he's got enough time
left in that?

Speaker 6 (23:18):
Bat, well that's a great, Question, mike And freddie is
someone that has talked pretty candidly about the importance of,
family how obviously as a, father and he's got obviously
a very young, family and family is very important to
him that he doesn't necessarily want to hang on and
play until he's forty. Five, here he's not going to

(23:41):
be one of these players that is trying to squeeze
out one last, hit mister three thousand if you, will.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Great, Movie Bernie, mack great.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
Movie but that's Not freddy's. CALLING i think he if
he can do, it and he keeps at this great,
clip could he play three more years and get, there
four more years and get. There it's certainly, possible But
he's not the kind of guy that's going to link
in his career just to get that round. Number he's

(24:13):
already going to be A hall Of. Famer i'm A
hall Of fame. Voter that's an easy, vote easy vote
sure For Freddie, freeman whether or not he gets to three.
Thousand so he's already got multiple world, titles he's already
got all The All star appearance as you can possibly.
IMAGINE i think he's at a point in his life
where winning obviously still matters more than anything. Else but

(24:35):
he's gonna keep trying to do that and then most
important to be a family, man way before he worries
about three. Thousand so my, sense AND i don't want
to speak For, freddy but my sense is he'll he's
just going to try to stack as many good days
and as many hits as he, can and whatever that
final number is it. IS i don't think he's going
to be motivated by trying to hit three.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
Thousand all, RIGHT i know you got to be digging
The Stanley. Cup hurricanes wanted they get out. There first of,
all where do you? Start they gave up the four
goal lead last. Game this, game they had a two
goal to nothing, lead they had to make a change
at goalie they win five to. Three it's two games a,
piece AND i still don't know what's going to. Happen it's,
Crazy it is, crazy and part.

Speaker 6 (25:19):
Of it Too. Aarnie the joy of this Particular Stanley
Cup final Is game one's a one goal. Game game
two is a one goal. Game game three is a
one goal game with a crazy comeback in each, direction
and Then game four is a one goal game up
until the empty, netter which was one of the most
remarkable empty edits you're ever going to, see with the
way the eithers bounced it off the half wall and

(25:42):
the go ahead goal to winning goal By stall was
also simply. Outstanding Yet bussy making his first playoffs start
In game four of The Cup final the Former Western
Michigan University. Broncos so just a number of great layers and.
Storylines huge fan of the way That Jordan stall has
played this. Year Thanks Jalen chatfield has been excellent For.
Carolina this is where it should be AND i do

(26:06):
think heading the game, five of Course carolina's on home.
Ice the big Question i've got From vegas' perspective And
sean McDonough mentioned this later on in the.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
Show in the, broadcast tonight is Is michael and on
the power play in, particular it's hard for me to
Believe vegas can win this series Without ikle scoring, goals
not just registering, points but putting the puck in the,
net because it.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
Felt like tonight was the moment and he came al so.
Close but this moment in the series is calling For ikeall's.
Involvement of, course the gold medals of The olympics this,
year he is due for a big moment In game.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Five, yeah we had the chaos in the pregame of
the fact That anderson didn't, dress so the surprise and
net and a little bit of chaos. There but now
we're at, two two best of three to roll so
many big sporting, events THAT'S. Jp you're a man that
wears many hats and obviously covering The Stanley cup final

(27:06):
in THE nhl as you do At John barrossi for
those in The twitter verse as. Well but we've got
that other big, event one hundred and four matches to
GO Fifa World, Cup No italy for. You so what
language are you perfecting and what team are you adopting
working On.

Speaker 6 (27:23):
Spanish of, course that is the most broadly adaptable language
that you can speak when covering The World. CUP i
am planning on getting some games in, person which is
going to be a lot of. FUN i tell you,
what this country is ready for. It and to be,
honest if you're someone that enjoys social, media and you've

(27:43):
probably noticed the last few days the number of fans
from around the, world and then also teams around the
world that are being based in unique and Small american.
Cities that is the essence of what is going on.
Here smaller towns And, Lawrence, Lawrence kansas has a team

(28:05):
from The Middle. East you've Got spain is In, Chattanooga.
Tennessee this this is what we are as a sports
people at our very. Best when you zoom out and
you look at The United, states just the sheer scope
of our, country the diversity of our, country AND i
think the readiness that we, have the fascination with. Sports

(28:27):
sports And Mike trico talked about this at The. Olympics
sports brings out the best of, us it really. Does
it's something that we do culturally very. Well we're not
perfect in the sports world or anywhere. Else but we
do this better than we do a lot of. Things
AND i think hosting This World cup it's the perfect
event at the perfect time and, place and we've got

(28:49):
plenty of skeptics about. THAT i think that our country
is going to rise to the moment and meet the,
moment and it's going to be a great. Success obviously
for the home. Country you want to as much as
you're not supposed to root, Listen i'll say. THIS i
hope THE us goes on a great. RUN i Hope
canada goes on a great. RUN i Hope mexico goes
on a great. Run because when those if those three

(29:10):
host nations are all rolling and playing before packed, houses
and you've got real social moments and momentum behind these these,
teams it's gonna make for a magical summer to cross our.
Continent SO i hope that this week is just the
start of a really special six. Weeks THE, us, obviously
it Starts friday for them nine Pm Eastern time On

(29:31):
fox of course Against. Podaguay and it's not an easy
matchup THE. Us to, me they had a good SHOWING
i thought Against germany over the. Weekend wanting to See
polisic now really get. Going a beautiful volley goal By Jedi.
ROBINSON i think the goalkeeping situation is pretty much settle.
IT i think it's going to be freeze to. Begin

(29:53):
but they've Got turner if they need. Him richard's his
health is going to be a really big question there
at the center back. Position but this is gonna be
a big, test AND i think THE us needs to.
Win i'm not saying win, convincingly but if you're gonna
make a long run in this, tournament this is a
game you should. Win Because australia is not an easy.
One Nora's turkey a and so The pataguay, match which

(30:17):
is not an easy. One THE us needs to look
convincing to be sure that they get through the group
in a good position and then go on a.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
Run and that's WHAT i want to ask. You you,
know you saw The germany. Game germany wins two to
one in The United states fifty five to, one the
win the whole. Thing does that two to one game
make you more optimistic or you're, like, WELL i knew
we were gonna lose To germany and or does it
make you like we're going to have a terrible time
if we lost the way we lost To.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Germany So i'll tell you.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
This one of my dear, friends our neighbors here in the,
NEIGHBORHOOD i was out for a job that morning before the,
game and he was playing soccer in the front yard and, Said,
hey what do you got in the, Game and he,
SAID i think it'll be too On, germany AS i
think two Won germany, too so we were both on.
It so basically answer your question dialed, IN i think
it was exactly the right. Score but WHAT i will

(31:10):
say too is that this, team THE, us is a
top twenty country in. Soccer it is good enough at
least to make The round of sixteen and maybe even
a quarter. Final of, course you go back to two
thousand and two with their handball away from being in
the semi and this is a golden generation has a

(31:31):
chance to, BE i should, say a golden generation of THE.
Us we have not yet seen them find greater success
than the team did in two thousand and two When
Greg Burhalter sebastian's, dad When Claudia arena was still on the.
Team and it's a different generation that Young Lennon donovan
was on that. Team that's my big question is can this,

(31:51):
group which has so much, talent coalesce and find a
way to go on a, run not just make the knockout,
round but win some knockout round matches and really take
this country on a. Ride they're good enough to do,
it BUT i think the health Of Tyler adams in
the mid in the midfield and his availability is going
to be. Paramount and Then polisic has got to put

(32:11):
the ball in the back of the net that that
needs to be a part of the. Story he's gonna
have to be. IMMENS i believe he can Be. TACTICALLY
i Think pachetino knows this group, now so we're. Ready
it's one of those things where are We are we
of the class Of france Or england or The Dutch
Brazil probably, not but, hey the best team doesn't always,

(32:33):
win and if we get to the quarterfinal of the,
COUNTRY i think it'll be a successful.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
Tournament he's the man of all. Seasons our, Guy John
palmrosi At John rossi where you find him in the,
TWITTERVERSE Mlb, NETWORK Nhl, Media SERIUS xm and that voice
in your. HEAD jp keep the caffeine. Flowing through. Brother

Speaker 6 (32:57):
It my friend will be up, late of, COURSE i.
SAID i think the plan is to speak after the
game On, friday so can't wait for that to get.
Start as everybody across the, country find your, friends find
your favorite watering, hole your FAVORITE tv, screen and let's
all come. Together friday night should be a lot of. Fun.

Speaker 3 (33:14):

span you're in For Jason.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Smith be sure to catch live editions Of The Jason
Smith show With Mike harmon weekdays at ten Pm, eastern
seven Pm.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Pacific, hey welcome back In Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith
show With Me Mike. Harmon we'll get back into THE
Nba finals coming up about ten. Minutes but be. Remiss
it's a story that just warms the heart and it
speaks to a MOVEMENT i think across, sports and it's
tied back to the burgeoning sports card. INDUSTRY a lot

(33:54):
of players that are collectors reconnecting with fans trading for
their one of one or debut patches and all of
those kind of. Things but a story that hit the
Circuit Arnie, Spaniard, yeah Was Paul skens driving past The
Ingamar Franklin park Little League baseball, fields saw the lights,

(34:16):
on decided to pull, in and he was there two
hours taking, pictures playing a little soft, toss signing some,
autographs all of those kind of. Things and it harkens
just you, know one of the THINGS i pointed out
and looking at a Terrible game. Three we'll get back
into it in a few but For Karl Anthony towns
one of the big sound bites for me That i've used.

(34:40):
Twice we've done it here With jason and THEN i
did it With Ryan hollins On, Sunday just that idea
of the respect of the fans and of the city
Of New york and how much that means to. Him
and to have a number of players where we see
these connections being. Made Paul skins didn't need to pull,
over just said, hey, hey little league. Whatever but we're

(35:01):
seeing more and more of the younger players embracing that
there's still some little kidnem that's BECAUSE.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
I think more more players are more unlikable than the
players of the early, YEARS i should.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Say and we've talked about this.

Speaker 5 (35:17):
BEFORE i, Mean nike even said that THE nba players
have become, likable that's why they can't sell these.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Shoes i've actually.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
Had my run ins with celebrities or players or played
against them and stuff like, that and it's an absolute
blast when it. Happens you don't expect. It it comes
out of the. Blue good for him for you, know
pulling over and taking time out of his day and
going back to simple, things doing what's important and giving

(35:45):
back to the.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Community that's what it's all.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
About, well it's, funny is it harkens back to stories
my my parents and my my uncles and aunts and
everybody would tell about the neighborhoods In. Chicago uh and
back then when players have had off season. Jobs oh, yeah, yeah,
right they were guys in the, communities you, know delivering, milk,
beer carrying slabs of, meat, whatever. Whatever it was. Like

(36:11):
they had these jobs and then if you were, out you,
know playing stickball or, whatever they might stop for a
minute because it was important to, them you know, that you,
know they they showed that, love but you know that
was the, vocation but it didn't pay all the bills
for a full year at the.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Time other. Things, yeah but.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
That's the, thing, Right AND i like this from From
skiens and a guy that, like eventually he's going to
ride his, ticket whether he decides to stay In pittsburgh
and they find a way to retain him or he
ends up on one of these other. MARKETPLACES i, mean
he's a, name, Right he's one of those stars that
we talk, about so you, know the the lead by

(36:54):
example and have some of your biggest players doing those
kind of, things because a lot of guys are control
actually obligated to do a few of. THOSE i Remember
Carlton fisk had the personal service contract with The White
sox and they had him do a speech for a
bunch of women about baseball to kind of, explain you,
know little nuances and. Whatever and at some point he
dropped his pants to show the bruises he had from

(37:16):
catching because he didn't like doing that part of his.

Speaker 4 (37:20):
Contract, funny, so you.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Know running the, gamut as it, were he's already spanned
your At Stinking genius one is where you find. Him
find me over At Swollen. Dome as we, continue we
get back Into game four of THE Nba. Finals what
do we expect tomorrow night at this time
